Transcript
- 0:00All right, good afternoon. Welcome Miller and Condon on our
- 0:03Wednesday program. Welcome Trent Condon.
- 0:05Ken Miller talking sports with you for the next couple of hours
- 0:08here on the Iowa Sports Radio Network.
- 0:11Shout out to all the affiliates throughout the state of Iowa and
- 0:14all of your listeners listening on the iheart app wherever.
- 0:16However glad that you are. Here's what's coming up on our
- 0:19program. At the bottom of the hour, we
- 0:21will preview golf's first major. The Masters gets underway
- 0:24tomorrow, by the way. We'll have updates at 4616 and
- 0:2846 or the break that comes closest to that in our case,
- 0:32Yes, I have no idea, but. Remember when we went to the
- 0:35network and we had to be so tight on those breaks?
- 0:37I don't miss that one bit. I really.
- 0:39Don't dissipated just a little. Bit.
- 0:41Absolutely, but we'll have masters updates starting
- 0:43tomorrow on Westwood. One, Matt Rudy's going to join
- 0:46us at the bottom of the hours. He always does throughout the
- 0:49majors covered GG Digest for three or four decades in total.
- 0:55Matt Rudy coming up at the bottom of the hour.
- 0:57David Kaplan kicks off hour number two.
- 1:00How about those Cubs, Trent, We never lost faith.
- 1:02Told you by stereos was going to come alive like by Bregman.
- 1:05I was all over him. Swanson, he can still swing that
- 1:08bat. Big win yesterday for the
- 1:11Cubbies. No problem starting, pitching,
- 1:12the bullpen. A lot of people lost faith.
- 1:14I was not one of them. Nine to win yesterday, now win
- 1:18today. You overreact just a little bit,
- 1:20but. You know what?
- 1:21Look what happened. Oh, you're the key?
- 1:24Well, why don't you do that all the time?
- 1:25I think I'm better today. Yeah, maybe you transfer my
- 1:28bitching to the Blue Jays 'cause my good God.
- 1:31Anyways, so we'll talk to Cappy, a lot of stuff going on in
- 1:35Chicago, obviously the Billy Donovan and the Bulls, etcetera,
- 1:38etcetera. Coming up here with Cappy to
- 1:41kick off our number 2. And then back to Bill Seals,
- 1:44Iowa State, the football programs keeping the Cyclone
- 1:47media jumping here last few days.
- 1:50Bill Seals had an opportunity yesterday, more coaches, well,
- 1:53not just Bill, he did see some of the practice yesterday, but
- 1:57all the Cyclone Media did a couple of coaches availabilities
- 2:00and players as well. So we'll get Bill Seals, the
- 2:03latest on Cyclone football coming up here at 1:30.
- 2:05Trent, we'll make some plays of the day.
- 2:07Now, will you share your master's picks today?
- 2:11Yes, since the tournament will be underway tomorrow at 1:50
- 2:14when you do. It I got a long list and I'm
- 2:17sure by the time my my head hits the pillow tonight, it'll be a
- 2:20longer than longer one. I just.
- 2:23The tournament is great in itself, but from the betting
- 2:25perspective, part of the new. Ways.
- 2:27Absolutely. The the markets that are kind of
- 2:29funny. I mean top debutant, it's a guy
- 2:31making his debut. But the terminology obviously
- 2:35that needs to be used on top of it.
- 2:37But the thing that I like most, and I think you've learned this
- 2:40in our years doing inside the numbers on MC22, is I like
- 2:43betting golf, but I really like these smaller fields.
- 2:46And that's what you get with the Masters with just 91 guys.
- 2:49Because those top 20's, the prices aren't quite as good as
- 2:53you'll get in a traditional golf tournament with 176 golfers or
- 2:56whatever it is. But the opportunity to finish
- 2:59the top 20s a whole lot better when you only got 91 guys there
- 3:02and only 50 of them are going to make the cut.
- 3:03So I just love all the different angles to the tournament, so
- 3:07many different guys and, and it's at this point now we don't
- 3:10have that storyline. Rory chasing it, obviously.
- 3:13That has been such a huge. One, what is it this year?
- 3:15That's a really good question, Trent I What will the story of
- 3:19this year's Masters be going into it?
- 3:21You know, Rory, and I've heard it again.
- 3:24All the extra that happens this week.
- 3:26Now, Rory's been there already. He was.
- 3:28There last week I think. For the women, the the girls
- 3:31youth tournament that they have on Sunday, he was there, he was
- 3:34reading the greens. Another guy that was there who
- 3:37Bryson Dechambeau, he was. Sounds like you've got a little.
- 3:42Out of the. Backing of Dechambeau.
- 3:44The top five guys or so, he's the one that I'm most invested
- 3:48in. How about Jon Rum?
- 3:49Did you just take the sniff? There at all.
- 3:51I did not I know he's playing well.
- 3:53I just another thing of the many things I hate about Liv.
- 3:57You don't see him. The numbers are fate yes, you
- 4:01can match up all right, this course how it what's the slope
- 4:04and everything and and I know the numbers are out there.
- 4:06It just, it is incredibly difficult for me in my mind of
- 4:10the way that I go about handicapping and marrying these
- 4:13guys, playing on these pitch and butt courses halfway around the
- 4:16world. Yeah, you don't know anything
- 4:18about them. As opposed to what they're doing
- 4:20and what Pebble, Yeah, absolutely right.
- 4:23Yes, All right. You did this at the players that
- 4:25equates to this. You did this at the Valspar, an
- 4:28incredibly difficult term. Those are things that I know
- 4:31what these things are and ROM he you have to take.
- 4:34You have to dig your heels in sometimes and ROMs one I just
- 4:36crossed off my list. Yeah, I throw somebody out all
- 4:38the time. Usually it backfires.
- 4:40Well, hopefully it won't do. It's kind of like I mean, and I
- 4:42know we have a lot of listeners that like horse racer, you know,
- 4:45know you from back of the days at Prairie and and know.
- 4:48Well, I got a little something to share with you coming up
- 4:50here. Yes, but back of the days at
- 4:52Prairie. Absolutely.
- 4:53So I mean, is it similar the way that you kind of look at
- 4:56handicapping horse racing and golfing especially like?
- 4:59For instance, big events like the Derby, I'm trying to I'm
- 5:01going to take a stand, took a stand against the Chiefs a
- 5:04couple of years ago, it worked when the Eagles knocked him out.
- 5:07Now the year before it wasn't so successful but but none the less
- 5:12so I can't wait. I love the event.
- 5:14I love the coverage of the event.
- 5:15It's it's locked in, it's four days of appointment TV.
- 5:19It really is. And by the sounds of things, I
- 5:21don't think weather is going to be a factor.
- 5:23Not at all. It has been an incredibly dry
- 5:26winter in Augusta on top of it. You couple that with this week,
- 5:30there's been no rain and well. It wasn't always dry because
- 5:33we're driving through some rating sideways.
- 5:36Well, it compares it overall. They have mentioned, I've heard
- 5:39this a couple of different places, read it once and heard
- 5:41it once today, that the powers that be in Augusta, they're sick
- 5:46of the 141516. Are they OK?
- 5:50And that step meter is going to be ratcheted up.
- 5:52These greens, which are year after Year 5, most difficult
- 5:56you're going to find on tour. They're going to be ramped up
- 5:58this week. And if you're not putting it,
- 6:01you have no chance. If you're not hitting the flat
- 6:03stick, well, this is going to be 1.
- 6:05Speaking of cross offs, absolutely cross off for a lot
- 6:08of the guys because it is going to be fast, difficult.
- 6:11We already know how difficult it is even when the conditions are
- 6:14soft, but they're not. It's going to be fast.
- 6:16It's going to be fun. We'll probably see a guy with
- 6:18four putt and he'll be hollering back in the crowd.
- 6:21You're going to see that coming up here.
- 6:23And we got the Part 3 right around the.
- 6:24Corner. We do.
- 6:25And you know what's on the the television here in the studio.
- 6:27Whoever was here late yesterday must have been watching.
- 6:30But the Cubs game, it's on marquee.
- 6:32That's that's Principal Park. There must be playing down there
- 6:35today. They must be.
- 6:36This is live, I think. OK, because I look outside the
- 6:39same kind of skies. Many people there, well, I can't
- 6:42see. They're just showing the field.
- 6:43And they must be singing the anthems because it's just the
- 6:45umpires. But kind of cool to see our
- 6:47hometown ballpark. Yeah, it's a decent crowd.
- 6:49Not really. It's April, it's April, early
- 6:52April and it's twelve O 5 anyway, so a number of topics to
- 6:57get to Zach Johnson back. So I'm at the at the Champions
- 7:02dinner last night. OK, that's a pretty cool picture
- 7:05when they got all those dudes together.
- 7:07Yeah, it really. Is one guy missing?
- 7:09Yeah, yeah, well, two guys missing.
- 7:11No Mickelson at the event and of course, no Tiger at the event
- 7:16for the for the Champions dinner last night.
- 7:18But it's a pretty cool picture. So Zach was there.
- 7:21What what kind of player? I mean, I haven't followed.
- 7:23What kind of year is he playing? Very much.
- 7:26He's playing a ton on the senior tour and he's playing incredibly
- 7:28well. He's won a tournament, maybe 2.
- 7:31He's finishing the top. Five.
- 7:32He'd be here coming up later on. It's a good question.
- 7:35What end of May you know? Principal Charity classic.
- 7:38I don't know the answer to that. I would anticipate he would
- 7:41though obviously what he did back.
- 7:42In the city. Yes.
- 7:43And coming back here. Where he went to college.
- 7:45Absolutely not Even the number one golfer, a Drake.
- 7:48That's so wild. And now?
- 7:50That's the career that he has. So one of my biggest investments
- 7:53this week is actually on Zach really not to win at 700 to one
- 7:57at Circa. That's what he is.
- 7:59And 405 hundred to one at other places by the way and I had to
- 8:03throw 5 bucks. On you did better.
- 8:05Of course it's 5 bucks, right? I mean, it's anymore it's a.
- 8:08Lottery ticket? Absolutely.
- 8:11So the top senior, and now that's Zach, he's. 50 and older.
- 8:1550 and older and when you look through the group of seniors,
- 8:20the other guys, there's only six guys that follow this couples,
- 8:24yes. They don't list Gary Player.
- 8:26No, Gary Player doesn't count. Holy mackerel, I'm stumped.
- 8:33VJ. OK, yeah, he was in the picture
- 8:35yesterday. And VJ's, He's one of masters.
- 8:37Played OK, yeah. Oh, Mike, we're one of masters.
- 8:40Is he on the list? He's over 50 is.
- 8:42He one of the most improbable Masters winners of all time.
- 8:46The little Canadian lefty. Yeah, the lefty part helped, as
- 8:49we know in this course. But yeah, he's definitely in
- 8:52that mix of guys out of nowhere on hell Carrera, fresh out of
- 8:56prison. So when did he get out?
- 8:59I think like 9 months. Ago.
- 9:00So was he at a real prison or was he at a quote country?
- 9:03Club I, I don't know the answer to that, I don't know.
- 9:06Did he have golf privileges? Right.
- 9:08And did he have a simulator into cells?
- 9:10Like, yeah, this is too bad. I'm just working on your game
- 9:13there. So what did he go to prison?
- 9:14Was it tax evasion? Yes, yeah.
- 9:16And Jose Maria. Ola Thabel, how old is he now?
- 9:20Oh, he's got to be 60. Five in the 60s, I would think,
- 9:23Yeah. Those are the six guys.
- 9:24So it's a. Field of 6A.
- 9:26Field of 6. Now Zach's 50.
- 9:28Yes, just turned 50 so. I would think that quote, the
- 9:32youngster in the group would have the best chance, right?
- 9:35Maybe. Now you're getting minus one O
- 9:384. That's what it is at DraftKings.
- 9:39You're not getting, you know, some kind of plus money.
- 9:41Or are they the only ones that offer that?
- 9:42The only one that I've seen, I haven't looked any other places,
- 9:45but that's the only one that I saw when I was digging around
- 9:48last night. He's playing well.
- 9:50I know it's on the senior store. He finished in the top ten last
- 9:52year. And what kind of price you could
- 9:54have got at the Masters? At the Masters, I don't remember
- 9:56that. Yeah, he was never in content.
- 9:58Because Rory was the story. Yes, Zach Johnson -104 put that
- 10:02one in your back pocket. Interesting.
- 10:04They are going to be feeling good about that amongst the top
- 10:06senior players, alright. Zach Johnsons, 50.
- 10:09So yeah, so if they none of them make the cutters, the bed
- 10:13voided. Great question, did not look at
- 10:16the house rules. I don't know if it's that or
- 10:18still who had the best finishing position even if you didn't make
- 10:21the cut. Even if you only play 36, you're
- 10:23quite right. But you finish plus 4, I'm going
- 10:26to make it. And that's the way that they're
- 10:28going to pay that out. But love that one and going to
- 10:30be playing that. But yeah, we'll talk a little
- 10:31bit more about my wagers a little bit later on.
- 10:34Sure. This golf tournament though, it
- 10:35is. There, I just love it.
- 10:38Rite of Spring every single year.
- 10:40Gymnets do your thing, but then if you could just excuse
- 10:42yourself from the Butler cabin. It just drives me.
- 10:45It's over the top. It is it really?
- 10:47Is that's who he is though He's hokey.
- 10:49Yeah, and at least it's not with Hootie anymore.
- 10:51Oh, that's true, Which is even took it to a whole different
- 10:54level. Couple of couple of things
- 10:57basketball related apparently. And and Scott Knock, who worked
- 11:01with us here, he was just in studio before you got here.
- 11:03He showed me a clip of the Vanderberg's podcast.
- 11:07Matt Vanderberg and his wife do a podcast.
- 11:09Laura Yep. Laura and Cooper Koch was part
- 11:13of it. Did you?
- 11:13Did you watch this little? Piece I didn't know did.
- 11:15You hear about this and and part of it was, was Koch sharing with
- 11:21the Vandenberg's that Ben McCullum had reached out to him
- 11:24last year, right before Drake played Texas Tech in the round
- 11:27of 32. Wasn't the Freeze the guy at
- 11:31that point? I.
- 11:36That's kind of what I thought too.
- 11:38I just found it. It struck me as, hang on a
- 11:42second. This really doesn't add up,
- 11:44right? And this, this was this was
- 11:46recently the first time he met McCollum or one of the first
- 11:49times he spoke with him was spoke with him apparently right
- 11:52before Drake played Texas Tech last year.
- 11:57Now, it's not a shock that McCullum was moving on right
- 12:01now. It was just whether where he was
- 12:02going to land. But at that time, I thought it
- 12:05was clearly and obviously it didn't turn out and it turned
- 12:09out very well for Iowa, right? But it's just, I, I just trying
- 12:12to, you know, line up the calendars a little bit.
- 12:15And maybe the Indiana thing was happening quicker than we
- 12:18anticipated maybe and and that could be the reasoning behind it
- 12:21is kind of that's the thought process you go down because we
- 12:25hear things very delayed in comparison to what's happening
- 12:28inside the industry. Well, where's?
- 12:30The Brent Bloom story here with that happened a year ago.
- 12:33Absolutely. Heather had Heather and Alec had
- 12:35Bloom on this morning. If you missed that story, it's
- 12:38incredible. It really and truly is and what
- 12:40we're talking about. So how what was the total 2.5
- 12:43million? That sounds right, yeah.
- 12:44So three Iowa State basketball players last year all wanted to
- 12:49stay at Iowa State. But to, in order to get them,
- 12:51I'm paraphrasing and go back and listen to the podcast.
- 12:54Chris Shipley on his his three beards media had it as well.
- 12:58But Alec and Heather had it here, had them here this
- 13:00morning. And Brent Bloom relayed the
- 13:03story that he had to come up with or the collective had to
- 13:06come up with 2.5 or they were short $2.5 million by June the
- 13:1230th. That was the deadline.
- 13:13Do I have that right? And they didn't have the money.
- 13:18Yeah. And there was a tremendous sense
- 13:24of urgency. I'm just guessing.
- 13:27Two of them had to be. Well, one of them was Jefferson.
- 13:29We know that one, Yeah, that that LSU offered.
- 13:32Right. I would assume on Chilovich fair
- 13:36and this is just an assumption. Who would the third be?
- 13:39Lipsy? I I don't know about that.
- 13:44I'm not saying he wanted Jefferson money because he, I
- 13:47mean, I think the legacy really meant something.
- 13:49Here I'm with you. And had hadn't they not come up
- 13:52with that, with that threshold of cash, I'm guessing he would
- 13:55have, you know, all right, what do you got?
- 13:56What could he do for me? That's good.
- 13:58But just the fact that how difficult it was and how much
- 14:02Brent Bloom had to scramble just a fascinating story in nil.
- 14:07And it came right down to the last minute, apparently.
- 14:09And Bloom had to, you know, make an emergency phone call to 1
- 14:12booster to write that one check to get them over that $2.5
- 14:17million threshold in order to keep those three players happy.
- 14:20The only other name that I think would make sense is maybe
- 14:22Heisey. I'm sure he could would have had
- 14:24availability and he's not going to get a third of that, but
- 14:28maybe he had to offer back home with Minnesota for throwing out
- 14:32a random #350,000. Can you get close?
- 14:35You know something, whatever it is, that's about the only other
- 14:38name though on the roster. I think that would make sense to
- 14:41to complete it because it's hard to get there with Lipsy.
- 14:44Could you imagine Tame Lipsy? No leaving in June.
- 14:46No, no, I couldn't. Get that announcement.
- 14:48Nope, could not could not that would have been bad.
- 14:51Yes, that would have been bad. That's a that's a 5 alarm fire.
- 14:54And he did and it was never close apparently to being that
- 14:56do we know of and he stayed and we saw the results.
- 14:58And that's off to you, tame and Lipsy, because you know, the way
- 15:01the NIL is going and the and the the ease, I guess, of
- 15:07transferring, at least at this point, will there be how many,
- 15:12how many will stay four years? You know, to meet that
- 15:15requirement, you got to graduate from Iowa Stadia, I'm guessing I
- 15:18was the same way. If they want to retire a number
- 15:21you know to meet these parameters, not going to happen
- 15:24very much anymore, I wouldn't think.
- 15:25Because what did we have 20 guys that completed their eligibility
- 15:28at the power of conference level and now over half the guys are
- 15:31in the portal. Just crazy.
- 15:34What is? The And it's not just men's
- 15:35basketball, it's women's basketball also. 1600 men in the
- 15:39portal yesterday. Is Manchelevich in the portal?
- 15:44I don't I have not seen it reported.
- 15:46Boy, there's rumors everywhere and and then you see the, the,
- 15:50the apparently Florida is throwing millions at him.
- 15:53Well, if he's not in the portal, can he do that?
- 15:55I mean, I'm not saying he's not going to get in the portal.
- 15:57I hope he doesn't. And we know he's going to dip
- 15:58his toe into NBA waters. We'll see where it goes.
- 16:02Boy, Iowa State would be a whole lot better if he comes back.
- 16:05Obviously, yeah, need that kind of shooting out there.
- 16:07And as you go through another transition, they've got work to
- 16:09do in the portal themselves. They do.
- 16:11It won't be Brent Bloom anymore that are is going to be doing
- 16:13that. But whoever is running things
- 16:16over there and figuring that out, there is a lot of work to
- 16:18be done to rebuild that. Roster What about Trey Singleton
- 16:20from Northwestern? Do you remember him?
- 16:22I. Do.
- 16:24Good. Just a freshman.
- 16:25Yeah. Big 10, I liked him.
- 16:27Yeah. He averaged 8:00 and 5:00.
- 16:29He also felt like a guy that was going to be bothersome by the
- 16:34time he was an upper class, one of those Northwestern guys we've
- 16:37seen in the past, and that guy's still around.
- 16:39They were, they were bad as freshmen here.
- 16:41But now, you know, down the fringe of being a tournament
- 16:43team or something like that, That's kind of felt like the
- 16:45path. Yeah, he was all right.
- 16:47Liked him 6. Eight.
- 16:49Yeah. 6-8 Yeah, I think he's 68. 6768, right at that range.
- 16:53Yeah, he was fine. I like their freshman guard.
- 16:55That was a kid that I really liked.
- 16:57Really. Yeah, I can't even remember his
- 17:00name off the top of my head. But yeah, it's the other
- 17:03question that kind of lingers along with Manchilovich.
- 17:06I think it's the same kind of conversation.
- 17:07Is is even in the portal? What's happened in Iowa City
- 17:10with Elvira? Cabarrus, it doesn't have to
- 17:12happen today or tomorrow. I mean, what are we waiting for,
- 17:14right? For both of these guys, by the
- 17:17way. This is connecting dots, this is
- 17:19speculation, this is not reporting.
- 17:21And I know some people struggle with that, but that's what we do
- 17:23on the radio when we hear the number that was estimated for
- 17:28over a year ago. And I was probably not going to
- 17:31spend the same amount to keep him around.
- 17:34See that? Reminds us what that was I think
- 17:36north of 1,000,000. Yeah, 1 1/2 I think was the the
- 17:39rough estimate that was out there.
- 17:41Did they get their money's worth based on the Florida Shot art?
- 17:44Arguments, art. Argument went a long, long ways.
- 17:47Did it? Yes, But overall, they certainly
- 17:49didn't, right? Not that one, right?
- 17:51Not throughout the course of the season.
- 17:53They did not get the return on investment for sure.
- 17:55That went a long way to balancing the scales to.
- 17:57Get to a Sweet 16 yeah the 27 year streak what he did that
- 18:01against the Nebraska late pulling away in that one yeah he
- 18:04earned it in the. Tournament.
- 18:05He had a really good the tournament, well, with the
- 18:07exception of the Illinois game. Lead 8 and that's what you saw
- 18:09from Fool Garris. I'm sure the conversation was
- 18:12had. You're not going to get the same
- 18:15and there's opportunities to make more money elsewhere.
- 18:18Do you make that choice to go chase the money in the last year
- 18:22that you're going to have an opportunity to chase that kind
- 18:24of money? Al Ferro's not played in the
- 18:26league. No.
- 18:27He'll play in Europe, you can make decent money there and
- 18:30good. Money.
- 18:31What is what is it? Do you have any?
- 18:32Idea. It is a wide range.
- 18:33It is anywhere for me. You can make $70,000 to hundreds
- 18:36of thousands of dollars. It's a wide swath, but this
- 18:40could be potentially set yourself up for life.
- 18:43I mean, you stack another $2,000,000 on top of 1.5 when
- 18:46you're 22 years old. Yeah, that's going to go a long
- 18:48ways as long as you certainly use your money correctly.
- 18:52But here we are on Wednesday, portal opened up yesterday day
- 18:55#2 of this. I think we're getting close to
- 18:58that decision time. It needs to be one way or the
- 19:01other. Because schools are aren't going
- 19:02to fill positions, Trent. Right, right.
- 19:05There's going to be visits, tons of them already set up this
- 19:07weekend and those suddenly those spots go very quickly.
- 19:10So I have nothing, I have heard nothing.
- 19:13A lot of people believed that he was going to do.
- 19:16It's just odd that we haven't heard anything yet.
- 19:18Yeah. Well, stand by.
- 19:19We'll we'll see. Maybe we should if there, if
- 19:21there is something news to be made, we would assume that that
- 19:25will happen here in the next day or so.
- 19:29What are you going to do with you with your top 20?
- 19:31Are you going to are you going to try and parlay these these
- 19:34back to your master's bets? Maybe a little bit, but most for
- 19:38the most part, no. I usually just kind of stack
- 19:40them up individually, don't do a lot.
- 19:42There's some boosts at the different websites.
- 19:44I'll play around with that and have a little bit of fun with
- 19:46it. But yeah, overall, you know, you
- 19:48go back to kind of having a key, having something that you want
- 19:51to put in there with a bunch. I really like Cam Young for a
- 19:54top 20. Two, I do too.
- 19:55Playing incredibly well, nice player.
- 19:57Another guy that won the players, The last two guys that
- 20:00won The Players Championship went on to win the Masters the
- 20:02last two years. So if you want to make that
- 20:04equation and stack that together with Cam Young to win, that'd be
- 20:08another direction to go. But yeah, for the most part, I
- 20:10just kind of, I play with them individually, just stack them up
- 20:13that way and that's the direction for the most part that
- 20:15I go. We'll talk to Matt Rudy, more
- 20:19Masters conversation coming up here in a couple of minutes.
- 20:23Look forward to getting Matt's opinion on this tournament, what
- 20:26he thinks is going to happen, who a couple of names.
- 20:29He's covered this event for long, long time.
- 20:31So we'll get his thoughts on that.
- 20:33Not that he's going to guarantee us a winner by any means, but
- 20:36we'll see who Matt Rudy is going to be backing this weekend.
- 20:39Look forward to getting his take and who he thinks there's going
- 20:42to be there at the end. By the way back, back to
- 20:45basketball for just a second. Did you see the women's
- 20:48tournament had the second highest audience, the final,
- 20:51second highest television viewing of all time?
- 20:54I've not seen Monday's men's yet, but the but the women's
- 20:58came out from Sunday. Second most watched women's
- 21:01final four of our championship game ever.
- 21:05A little bit of surprise. That it's still doing as well as
- 21:08it is, yes. That it still reached that type
- 21:11of level did. It did it get it did it in a
- 21:13roundabout way? Did it get some?
- 21:16Maybe not the publicity they didn't want.
- 21:19I mean, did it, did it hurt? The, the Gino Auriemma and Dodd
- 21:24Stanley had their little dust up on on Friday night.
- 21:27Just to remind people that you know the the the championship
- 21:30games in 48 hours. It's anecdotal, but it could
- 21:33hurt. I mean, just the people that I
- 21:35talked to, the people that are not big, even sports fans that
- 21:39were interested because of that in in seeing that again.
- 21:42Yeah, I think it definitely helped it and went a long ways.
- 21:45Did you see the Friday night numbers?
- 21:47I'm sure I did. They didn't stick with me.
- 21:50But yeah, I mean, that's third I'm seeing here from ESPN PR.
- 21:54Third most watched women's championship ever, 9.9 million
- 21:57viewers. Second most watched March
- 21:59Madness overall, up to 5% year over year.
- 22:03The second most watched Final Four on record, 6.7 million
- 22:06viewers across the three games. That's from ESPN.
- 22:09And the highest rated would have been Angel Reese's.
- 22:12Yeah, it was that one. Angels.
- 22:15Angels, let's get Jeff in here, then we'll get a break.
- 22:18We'll get to Matt Rudy coming up.
- 22:19Hello, Jeff. How are you?
- 22:21Good. How are you guys?
- 22:22What's? Up, just wanted to put my little
- 22:25thoughts on the Masters, You know, a couple of big headlines
- 22:27in my opinion coming into the Masters.
- 22:30Number one's got to be, you know, where is Scotty at?
- 22:32You know, he just had a second child, hasn't really played that
- 22:35well. Yes, I know he won early.
- 22:37You know, to his standards. That's not that's not enough.
- 22:40I don't think. So coming into the Masters,
- 22:43where is his game at #2? You got to talk about worries
- 22:47back. He's not really been himself
- 22:50since he kind of had, you know, the problems with the lower
- 22:53back. And then he played the the
- 22:55players and just I want to say he wasn't even close to being in
- 22:58contention. Bryson has won a couple times on
- 23:02live. Take that as much as you want.
- 23:04I don't know what that really gives you.
- 23:05But you know, let's say his forms coming into, you know,
- 23:08coming into the masters, Jon ROM, to be honest, if you
- 23:12haven't looked at the odds like he's the second choice at +900,
- 23:16which is kind of surprising there.
- 23:18Going back to Scotty. I haven't seen Scotty Plus 510
- 23:21in a long time. So.
- 23:24If you want, it's kind of crazy if you want to take a chance at
- 23:27Scotty thinking, you know, can it can he does his game suit the
- 23:31masters? Absolutely.
- 23:33Is he the number one player still by far?
- 23:35Absolutely. So to get him at 5:10 when we
- 23:38were talking last year that Tiger was at the same level as
- 23:42you know, I'm sorry, Scotty was at the same level as Tiger.
- 23:46Getting, you know, 2 to one odds or under 510 is kind of a kind
- 23:50of a deal. If you think that, you know,
- 23:52Scotty can just kind of maybe put the switch some golfers that
- 23:57I kind of like lower down the the list.
- 24:00Trent's already brought up Cam Young, unbelievable putter.
- 24:04Matt Fitzpatrick is one of my guys.
- 24:06I'm circling. I played really well this year.
- 24:09He would be in the top euro market too.
- 24:11Absolutely. Is he the favorite Fitzpatrick?
- 24:14Well, you got him up there. You got Tommy Fleetwood right
- 24:17above them and then Rory. So, yeah.
- 24:20And then, you know, my last choice, and I really don't want
- 24:24to say his name, but he's been playing well, kind of a choker
- 24:27is a Berg. He's been in the hunt.
- 24:30He kind of choked it on Sunday and then he's got another top
- 24:33five. And if you look him up at the
- 24:35Masters, his game absolutely suits the Masters.
- 24:39I mean, if he's going to win closer before, he's been close
- 24:43before. If he's going to win a major, I
- 24:44believe it's the Masters. Now.
- 24:46Let me leave you on this. You guys talked about Al.
- 24:49I think it's hilarious when people bring up Manchilovich and
- 24:53Willie GoPro. He's a late 2nd rounder.
- 24:56I I think by next year is Al a second round draft pick?
- 25:01The clutch shot shooting from three.
- 25:03He can he can create his own shot enough he can dunk it on
- 25:06big. Yes, I understand his defensive
- 25:09problems, but you don't think he could sniff a second round draft
- 25:13pick? I don't think so at 22 years
- 25:15old. Jeff, thanks for the call.
- 25:16Appreciate. It with the inconsistency.
- 25:18Now if we see that Alvaro Fugaris that we saw against
- 25:21Florida and Nebraska for the whole year, yeah, absolutely.
- 25:25I don't think we're getting. That though I, I, I'd like to
- 25:27believe you would, yes, but not sure you would.
- 25:30By the way, when he's mentioned Nebraska, that kid just named,
- 25:32it's possible to say. The big guy, the big guy, the
- 25:34big nerdy guy, Yeah. He's in the portal.
- 25:37I saw that top Englishman Tommy Fleetwood the betting favorite,
- 25:40plus 225. Englishman or European
- 25:43Englishman? OK.
- 25:44Matt Fitzpatrick plus 240. Justin Rose plus three.
- 25:48I love. Justin Rose in this tournament.
- 25:49And I'm going to have him to be the first round leader at 40 to
- 25:521. Yes, that is already part of the
- 25:55card. Can I entice you on this one?
- 25:56And then we'll go to break. After a a lengthy study last
- 26:03night, I've found the winner of the Super Bowl.
- 26:09It's April 8th. Uh huh.
- 26:11OK, Yep. I'm ahead of the curve.
- 26:13I I know you are. They're not beating the Detroit
- 26:16Lions. What?
- 26:17Look at the schedule coordinators.
- 26:20We don't have to remind people what happened the year after the
- 26:23Eagles lost their coordinators. They won the Super Bowl, they
- 26:28lost Glenn, they lost Johnson. They've got some continuity in
- 26:33that position now. They've still got a a, a really
- 26:36good team, I think. And they've got a fourth place
- 26:39schedule, a fourth place schedule.
- 26:42Trent, just let me run this by you real quick.
- 26:44I got to find it, so it might take.
- 26:45Give me a minute here. Here's who the Lions are playing
- 26:49this year. You ready?
- 26:50Other than, of course, the their divisional foes home to New
- 26:54Orleans, Tampa, New England Jets, Tennessee Giants.
- 26:58Pretty easy. Rd.
- 27:00Atlanta, Buffalo, Carolina, Miami, Arizona.
- 27:03OK, you don't think there's twelve wins there?
- 27:05Might be not winning a Super Bowl. 49 to 1 Cam Young top 10
- 27:12Detroit wins the Super Bowl. Parley them together.
- 27:19That offensive line still stinks to high heaven.
- 27:20No, no, no. They've made some.
- 27:22They've made some signings. Larry Boreham and the drafts
- 27:24coming up. It's the Lions.
- 27:27They finally going to breakthrough.
- 27:29We're going to breakthrough. We're going to break.
- 27:30We'll come back. Matt Rudy joins the program.
- 27:32Next, it's Miller and Condon on the Iowa Sports Radio Network.
- 27:36Hi, Miller and Condon. Welcome back, Iowa Sports Radio
- 27:38Network. Wherever you're listening.
- 27:40Grateful that you are. We'll take you until 2:00.
- 27:43Let's talk some golf, shall we? As the music would indicate,
- 27:47Matt Rudy, long time golf writer, joins us to preview and
- 27:49to recap all of the majors and the big events or golf stories
- 27:53throughout the year. Hello Matt Rudy, good to have
- 27:55you back aboard again. We certainly appreciate the
- 27:57relationship over the decades. How are you?
- 28:00You know, I'm really good and it makes me happy to know that the
- 28:03golf season is officially starting talking to you.
- 28:06Guys, absolutely right back at you.
- 28:08You know, one of the stories coming into it has been Nick
- 28:10Faldo. We go back a couple of weeks
- 28:12last week, I guess, letting his feelings known about Tiger
- 28:15Woods. I'm glad he did.
- 28:16I have no problem with what he said.
- 28:18I thought he was spot on. And then Greg Norman and Nick
- 28:21Faldo kind of going back and forth.
- 28:24Trent started the show talking about, you know, what's the
- 28:26story of this year's Masters. And we really couldn't come up
- 28:29with one. But it's good to see the old
- 28:30boys are giving us something to talk about before they put AT in
- 28:33the ground. Yeah, I think it's a reminder
- 28:36too, that as much as some players historically complained
- 28:40about the coverage they got, Nick Stout was a great example.
- 28:43He was notoriously kind of prickly with the media.
- 28:47When that attention goes away, you can see how the elbow is
- 28:51sharpened a little bit so you can get yourself back in in
- 28:53front of the in front of the cameras again.
- 28:56But I think I think those those kinds of storylines are always
- 29:00good for Monday, Tuesday. And what's great about Wednesday
- 29:03and the Thursday is we get to start talking about what's
- 29:06actually going to happen on the golfers and I.
- 29:09And I can't think of anything more interesting than all of the
- 29:12talk about Scotty Scheffler being, you know, kind of off
- 29:15form and not being a guy that has a chance to win.
- 29:18It must be interesting for him to feel kind of what Tiger must
- 29:21have felt like during the, you know, the Tiger Woods heyday,
- 29:24which is if you don't win every single tournament, all of a
- 29:26sudden you're not as good as you used to be.
- 29:28That's a pretty tough standard. Definitely high expectations for
- 29:31Scotty. He's still the betting favorite,
- 29:33but a better price than we've been able to get over the last
- 29:36year or so on him to win this golf tournament.
- 29:39Matt, if you can set the scene for the tournament, it sounds
- 29:42like it's been dry for their standards here throughout the
- 29:45winter. No rain this week.
- 29:47It's going to be a fast track and that means fast greens.
- 29:50Is that going to play around here a little bit and coupled
- 29:53with maybe a more difficult golf course than we've seen the last
- 29:56couple of years? Yeah.
- 29:58I mean, all the adjectives that I've heard from the coaches that
- 30:01and players that I've talked to this week is that it's fiery.
- 30:04And I think of fiery, you know, hard, you know, high bouncing,
- 30:09you know, ping pong volley kind of a setup makes life really
- 30:13hard if you're not really precisely striking the ball.
- 30:17And it makes that precision striking a lot more important
- 30:21than how far you happen to hit it.
- 30:23Because if you, even if you put a lot of speed on it, if you're
- 30:26hitting these, you know, the undulations, for example, on
- 30:28some of these holes. And you know #10 is a great
- 30:30example. If you hit a, a heater down
- 30:33there with your 3 wood and you're offline and you aren't
- 30:36taking the right, you know, you're taking the right line,
- 30:39you know, down that hole, all you're going to do is bonk it
- 30:42even further into the wilderness.
- 30:43So I think precision and and off of the T precision and you're
- 30:49striking with your irons and being able to land the ball
- 30:51where you intend to, especially on approach shot.
- 30:55It brings a whole subset of players much more firmly into
- 30:59the contention, where it's not just going to be the person who
- 31:01can vomit the farthest off the T because it's, you know, because
- 31:04it's soft. Is is Augusta your favorite
- 31:07course in in the States? I mean, I admire kind of the
- 31:14audacity of trying to take full control over the environment.
- 31:17You know, they they literally have engineered every inch of
- 31:20the place to have it do exactly what they want it to do.
- 31:23So I admire it kind of from an engineering perspective.
- 31:26But if you were asking me what you know would be the most fun,
- 31:30or you know the place I would pick is number 1, I don't know
- 31:32that that would be the the number one course I would pick.
- 31:36Put it this way, and it should be some more, but where do you,
- 31:40you know everybody's going to die?
- 31:41Where does it at some point? Where would you like your ashes
- 31:43spread? Gosh, you know it's hard.
- 31:47Yeah, this is not a political show, but my favorite course
- 31:50anywhere on the planet is Turnberry.
- 31:52And. I think if I want, if I wanted
- 31:54my actions to be spread at Turnberry now that Trump owns
- 31:57it, I don't, you know, I'd have some parts.
- 31:59People in my family would think that was awesome.
- 32:01And some people in my family would never go visit my, my, my
- 32:04actions ever again. So I probably have to come up
- 32:07with a different choice now. Yes, plenty of that on the
- 32:10political superior. So I want to jump in to Rory.
- 32:15I've heard this a couple of different times.
- 32:16Just the extras that happened being the, it's not just all
- 32:20right. I'm going to put together a menu
- 32:21for the Champions dinner. There's a lot of extra that
- 32:24comes along with it. What do you anticipate for Rory
- 32:26this week when we get out to the golf course?
- 32:29Yeah, it's, it's, it's not only the extras this week.
- 32:32I think I, I remember talking to a few New York Yankees adjacent
- 32:37folks during the 2000s when the Yankees were kind of coming out
- 32:40of their, their era where they're winning titles seemingly
- 32:45all the time. And, and, and the coaches and
- 32:47the peak performance folks and all kind of and the players all
- 32:50kind of commented about some of the same effect, which is after
- 32:54you accomplished some big milestone goal, Mount Everest
- 32:57goal in your career. What really separates some
- 33:00players is their ability to immediately wake up the next day
- 33:03and go back to work again. And I think that hangover you
- 33:05saw for Rory last year was was inevitable after the masters.
- 33:10So I mean, I think ideally he would have had enough time to
- 33:12kind of process what's going on and to come back into this
- 33:16tournament. Somebody you should be one of
- 33:17the favorites. But you're right, you know, be
- 33:20having to host the Champions dinner, having to shake
- 33:22everybody's hand, having to go through all the extra
- 33:24responsibilities. It definitely changes the run up
- 33:28for the preparation you'd have for a tournament.
- 33:31The one thing I will say in Rory's favor is that he's the
- 33:34guy who always is on the media circuit.
- 33:36He's always in the press room. He's always got responsibilities
- 33:39that other players don't have. If you were some other player
- 33:42that had not won one of these before or was not one of the
- 33:45marquee players and all of a sudden you've got these new
- 33:48responsibilities during a tournament week, I think the
- 33:51adjustment would be much, much more difficult than it will be
- 33:55for Rory. I think what makes the Masters
- 33:57so interesting is it's so hard now because of where, you know,
- 34:01some players are playing on live, you know some players are
- 34:04playing a traditional run up to this tournament.
- 34:06Other players like Scotty haven't played in a few weeks.
- 34:09I don't think it's as easy to predict form right now as it
- 34:14would have been historically. Is it great that Bryson
- 34:16Dechambeau won two other events in his last two starts?
- 34:19You know, one in Asia and one in Africa?
- 34:21I mean, it doesn't hurt to be winning, but I but I don't know
- 34:25how you evaluate that relative to what he's going to see this
- 34:28week, for example. Tommy Fleetwood is become one of
- 34:32my favorite players just for the person that he is a he's a great
- 34:35player, but BI left him away from the course as well.
- 34:38Seems like a really good guy and you know, Family Guy etcetera,
- 34:41etcetera become one of my favorites.
- 34:44What kind of shot do you give him this week?
- 34:46You know, I, I think I was telling you guys about how cool
- 34:48Tommy Fleetwood was, you know, like 10 years ago when I did, I
- 34:52did a cover, a cover shoot with him for Golf Digest.
- 34:54And he's just the nicest, most regular guy, you know, comes
- 34:57walking up to the shoot carrying his own bag.
- 35:00And, you know, you can't find a better guy.
- 35:02I mean, he and Scotty Scheffler are kind of cut from the same
- 35:04mold. And that if you ran across them
- 35:06at a, you know, a burger joint in your town, they would talk to
- 35:09you like regular people, you know, not like somebody who was
- 35:12kind of segmented off. But I think the display that you
- 35:16saw Tommy Fleetwood put on toward the end of last year
- 35:19really validated what everybody who's seen him hit a ball
- 35:22already knew. And I think the other
- 35:24interesting thing about Tommy Fleetwood is how well he had
- 35:27played in stretches, had Augusta National before.
- 35:30And this is a guy, I think one year I watched him make 7
- 35:33birdies in a row at Gusta National.
- 35:35So clearly it's a place that rewards the kind of striking
- 35:39that he is known for. I think they are the piece that
- 35:43it always sort of eluded him is he's been kind of an indifferent
- 35:45putter for his career. So if you can play enough rounds
- 35:49at that place, the advantage that Gusta National provides
- 35:53players who are just mediocre partners and that obviously
- 35:55you're playing the same venue every year.
- 35:57And this is a place that prides itself on being consistent year
- 36:00in and year out, mostly in terms of the way the greens play and
- 36:03the putts that you have to read. So if you can get some some
- 36:08mileage on those greens and get some experience, it's a lot like
- 36:11playing your home course. You know you're not, you're
- 36:12almost not even reading putts anymore at your home course.
- 36:15You're just remembering what those putts on each hole did.
- 36:18That can only be an advantage for a guy that that stripes it
- 36:21like he does. Ludwig Oberg, a young guy that's
- 36:24going to win at some point and I think win on this golf course
- 36:27and in this golf tournament. But another meltdown maybe is
- 36:30not the right phrasing for it. A struggle getting to the
- 36:33stretch. Last year he was a shot off the
- 36:35lead, bogey on 17, triple on 18. A guy that's going to finish in
- 36:40the top 10. But maybe not when it where you
- 36:42thought Overall with the youngster who obviously has a
- 36:45ton of talent, just feels like we got some Sunday struggles at
- 36:48this point. Yeah, I think he might even have
- 36:50been tied to the lead for a minute there.
- 36:52Yeah, your. Point.
- 36:54Your point is right on. And I think we have this
- 36:57conversation a lot on your show, which is the only way to find
- 37:00out is to find out, you know, to do it.
- 37:03And you look at maybe we've been we've been kind of we've lucked
- 37:09out. For example, to watch the way
- 37:11Tiger came out or the way the Brooks Kaupka came out and
- 37:14started his major championship career or even the way that Rory
- 37:17came out and started his major championship career where you
- 37:20just start winning these things right off the jump.
- 37:23It's hard. It's hard to win majors.
- 37:24It's hard to do it for the first time.
- 37:26And I think getting some of those bumps and bruises like he
- 37:28did last year, it's all I like the bumps and bruises Rory went
- 37:32through at the Masters, you know, dominating at times and
- 37:35all of a sudden hitting one in the out into the, you know, the
- 37:38subdivision next door or into the cabins or whatever you want
- 37:41to call it. I think the resilient champions,
- 37:45the ones that go on and do it are the ones that take those
- 37:48bumps and kind of learn what happens when they get hyped up
- 37:52like that and when the emotions are running differently.
- 37:55Instead of trying to avoid it, they embrace it.
- 37:57And as you said, this is the guy has all the town in the world,
- 38:01He's like Xander Shockley. You know, we talked about
- 38:03Shockley on your show a lot, the guy where everyone knows at some
- 38:06point he's going to win majors and all of a sudden Xander won
- 38:09two of them in a row. So it wouldn't surprise me if
- 38:11that is the trajectory that over design as well.
- 38:14Last thing for me is the part of you that would like to see
- 38:17Justin Rose finally breakthrough and get this done after being so
- 38:20close last year. And then give us a name or two,
- 38:23Matt, that you think could ultimately be adorned in the
- 38:27green jacket on Sunday late Sunday afternoon.
- 38:30Well, I hate to sound like a weird kind of a Homer, but it's
- 38:33kind of what this is going to sound like.
- 38:35But I spent a lot of time chatting with Justin Rose last
- 38:39year, as in the run up to the book that I did with his coach,
- 38:42Mark Blackburn that came out in September.
- 38:44And Justin wrote the forward to that.
- 38:46And you all find he's he's in that that Fleetwood category,
- 38:49that Scheffler category is just a nice guy who puts in a
- 38:52tremendous amount of work. So seeing Justin Rose win, I
- 38:55mean, selfishly, it'd be cool for, you know, the guy that I do
- 38:58projects with, have his player win.
- 39:00And then I related note, another one of Mark's students is Matt
- 39:04Fitzpatrick, who's been playing fantastic golf over the last
- 39:07couple months. So I'm going to, I hate to be
- 39:10the Homer, but since we talked about Michigan State on this
- 39:13show too, I guess I'll just reinforce my formerness and say
- 39:15that, you know, Justin Rose would be awesome.
- 39:17And I and 1, you know, guy a little bit further down because
- 39:21it's fiery and difficult. Fitzpatrick is such a great
- 39:24strategist and, you know, and a guy who can play the angles.
- 39:26And when it doesn't, when you don't require, you know, it's
- 39:29kind of that bombing component that perspective doesn't really
- 39:32have, you know, he's a guy you got to look at too.
- 39:35Last thing, we made it through the whole interview.
- 39:37But Tiger, just your perspective felt like maybe we're trending.
- 39:43He was going to make it a go. At minimum, he was going to be
- 39:45there trying it this week and of course that is not the case.
- 39:48Just an overview and a look back at yet another unfortunate
- 39:51event. Maybe the last one as far as his
- 39:53golf I. Mean one of my best buddies is a
- 39:56captain in the fire department and the town went over from
- 39:58where I live and. We were talking about how many
- 40:01people in life have had two rollover accidents in
- 40:05residential neighborhoods where the where the speed limit was 30
- 40:08miles an hour. I mean, I don't, I don't know
- 40:10that that's even happened unless you're, you know, some kind of
- 40:13NASCAR driver or something like that.
- 40:15And I think it's, it's evidence and we've talked about this
- 40:19before, that the skills it takes to be an incredible player are
- 40:23not necessarily the ones it takes to navigate your real
- 40:26life. And I think when you have a life
- 40:28where there are a few people that are telling you to, you
- 40:31know, stop or to do something different.
- 40:33I mean, you know, the bubble you live in is in a lot of ways is a
- 40:37sad 1. And in this particularly case,
- 40:40it's a dangerous one. If you're blasting around
- 40:42neighborhoods and rolling your vehicle, other people can get
- 40:46hurt. And it feels like this piece of
- 40:48it is kind of breaking through and and people in the in the
- 40:53world of golf are kind of not only they're not so much
- 40:56demanding it that he changed something himself because they
- 40:59want to see Tiger Woods get better.
- 41:00They're saying you can't just go out and be a menace to everybody
- 41:04else. And I think that might be the
- 41:06piece that, you know, at least pushes this in a better
- 41:09direction. I mean, I would I would love to
- 41:11see Tiger play more majors. I'd love to see him play PGA
- 41:14Tour Champions event. I would just love to see him be
- 41:17present and not and be and be coherent when he's talking in an
- 41:21interview, you know, before our tournament or when he's hosting
- 41:23an event, you know, having him be the statesman kind of
- 41:27requires him being, you know, all there.
- 41:30And I think every also anybody wants to see is Tiger Woods be
- 41:33all there? No doubt about it.
- 41:35Hope you'll be here on Monday to recap the turn with with us.
- 41:38Matt Rudy. I'll text you.
- 41:40Thank you, buddy. I appreciate it.
- 41:41Thank you my friend. Good to talk to you.
- 41:43Matt Rudy, a long time golf writer, formerly of Golf Digest,
- 41:46now writing books on the sport of golf.
- 41:49We'll take your time out, come back and finish our number one
- 41:51of our program. David Kaplan kicks off the
- 41:53second hour. Miller and Condon on the Iowa
- 41:56Sports Radio Network. Hi Miller and Condon, final
- 41:59couple of minutes, first hour of the show.
- 42:02What did you make of the Vrabel Rusini story that broke
- 42:05yesterday? Kind of a weird look, huh?
- 42:07Yeah. That's sort of cheating.
- 42:08I mean, yeah, yeah. For both sides.
- 42:10For both sides. You know what one of my first
- 42:13thoughts was is, is clearly that's what's going on.
- 42:16Secondly, I feel bad for other women in the field like a Laura
- 42:20Rutledge, Courtney Cronin, you know, all the faces, the women
- 42:25that have come before, you know, trying to make, trying to make
- 42:29their mark and, and, and now everybody's going to be
- 42:32wondering, right? I mean, it's just, it's not,
- 42:35it's not it's an awful look. It's a look.
- 42:37They're the people that are fooling around and their spouses
- 42:39all over Des Moines everyday We get, we get that it's part of.
- 42:43But when you see it like this, and then I want to know who took
- 42:47the pictures. I want to know what's behind it.
- 42:50That's what I want to know, You know, who's behind it.
- 42:52How? Who did that?
- 42:53Was it New York Post that got him first?
- 42:55I think who funneled them to the New York Post?
- 42:58Why were they spying on variables I mean?
- 43:00Were they even spying though? I don't know.
- 43:02I've been in the hotel. Hey, there's Mike Variable.
- 43:03They were at an adult, only $2100 a night for per room.
- 43:08A resort, they can afford it. They can afford it and but this
- 43:13or there were six other people there.
- 43:14Really, where were they? How come they're not in the
- 43:16pictures like you're holding hands.
- 43:18How come you're, you know, laying beside each other?
- 43:20It's just a terrible look. Yes, reporter and an NFL head
- 43:23coach. And again, I feel bad for the
- 43:25other women that now we're going to they have to work twice as
- 43:27hard to begin with in this like it or not, it's true.
- 43:31And now they're always going to be well, how did she get her
- 43:34job? It's not right.
- 43:36Anyways, that was my take on him.
- 43:38It was really bad. Really bad.
- 43:40Ugly look it is. And I think you need.
- 43:42The Patriots way. Cutting quarters, good things,
- 43:46colouring outside the lines. Yeah, that's that's for sure.
- 43:49Cappy coming up in hour number two, we'll talk.
- 43:52Bulls, by the way, the starter for the White Sox, the game one
- 43:56star, the opening night star, Shane Smith.
- 43:58Yeah, he was sent down to the minors today.
- 44:01And yesterday. You had a good day.
- 44:06Well, he was good. He did not take the loss.
- 44:09You're right, he was out of the game by the time that happened,
- 44:11yes. Yeah, they'd strikeouts.
- 44:12Five walks. Well, that was the problem,
- 44:14right? Yes.
- 44:15And he was only in for like 3 and 2/3.
- 44:17It was the control, but unbelievable.
- 44:19Yes, Trace. Google watched a lot of him last
- 44:22night. He got beat.
- 44:23He didn't look very good either, really.
- 44:25Command just was a little bit off.
- 44:27Yeah, no, his standards are a little bit different and the
- 44:30twins got all their one runs. By the way, the Twins are
- 44:33working on a winning streak. That's that's 2.
- 44:35That's two. You know who is good?
- 44:38Todd Bradley. He was unbelievable, wasn't he?
- 44:40You said that yesterday, that he's.
- 44:41Pitching pretty well, throwing hard.
- 44:43He is looking like the guy that was a what, top 20 prospect for
- 44:47years when he was in the race system came up, didn't have it.
- 44:50Twins have figured something out.
- 44:52They got a lot more to figure out though.
- 44:53How about the Tigers at 4:00 and 7:00?
- 44:56Not good. Paul Skeens finally got a win,
- 44:58though for the Buckos yesterday. Hour 2 coming up next, Cappy
- 45:01kicks it off Miller and Condon on the Iowa Sports Radio
- 45:04Network.
