Latest / Vibes Only / The Minority Report: Are the Polls Missing Trump Voters?
Transcript
- 0:00BRIAN DERRICK: I'm Brian Derrick.
- 0:00GLENNIS MEAGHER: And I'm Glennis Meagher.
- 0:02BRIAN DERRICK: This week on Vibes Only.
- 0:03GLENNIS MEAGHER: Democrats look strong for the House.
- 0:05GLENNIS MEAGHER: Republican gerrymanders are backfiring, and voters seem ready to be done with Trump for good, question mark?
- 0:11BRIAN DERRICK: Then Glennis is back from Iowa with the minority report, including Mariannette Miller-Meeks running away from questions about the Epstein files.
- 0:19GLENNIS MEAGHER: Plus, Trump won't pay back the taxpayer money spent on his ads.
- 0:24GLENNIS MEAGHER: Quelle surprise.
- 0:25GLENNIS MEAGHER: Alito faces pressure to retire, and Susan Collins debates Troy Jackson.
- 0:29BRIAN DERRICK: Let's get into it Forgot my breakfast
- 0:38GLENNIS MEAGHER: Oh, no.
- 0:38GLENNIS MEAGHER: Poor you
- 0:39BRIAN DERRICK: So I'm eating whole carrots.
- 0:41BRIAN DERRICK: I'm so hungry.
- 0:42GLENNIS MEAGHER: Your skin's gonna turn orange.
- 0:44GLENNIS MEAGHER: I have no food in my apartment, and I'm starving, so…
- 0:48BRIAN DERRICK: Bus, club, rally, election, polling places.
- 0:55BRIAN DERRICK: It is go time.
- 0:56BRIAN DERRICK: Glennis, how are we feeling?
- 0:58BRIAN DERRICK: Dickens.
- 0:58GLENNIS MEAGHER: I'm feeling good.
- 0:59GLENNIS MEAGHER: I'm on the road now, so I'm like bus, club, another club, another club.
- 1:04GLENNIS MEAGHER: I don't know if you saw any of our viral content come out of Iowa.
- 1:08BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 1:09BRIAN DERRICK: Yes.
- 1:10GLENNIS MEAGHER: Chasing down Mariannette Miller-Meeks, who won- I love it … by six votes, with the fact that she refused to vote to release the Epstein files.
- 1:18GLENNIS MEAGHER: Mariannette, are you- Here's my thing.
- 1:29GLENNIS MEAGHER: If you're a staffer, are you really gonna send your congressional candidate into a Iowa Hawkeyes tailgate next to Kinnick Stadium alone?
- 1:40GLENNIS MEAGHER: Solo?
- 1:41BRIAN DERRICK: Not if they're a Republican.
- 1:42BRIAN DERRICK: In this economy, let me tell you, if you're Mamdani or Abdul El-Sayed or something, sure, because they can hold their own on a mic.
- 1:51BRIAN DERRICK: But these Republicans are literally trying to hide as much as possible.
- 1:55GLENNIS MEAGHER: She physically ran away from us, like physically ran away.
- 1:59GLENNIS MEAGHER: It was comical.
- 2:00GLENNIS MEAGHER: So yeah, Iowa, I was like, this was my first on-the-ground midterm weekend and I'm like, "We are in it, baby." I talked to a lot of college students who had no intention of voting, though.
- 2:11BRIAN DERRICK: Okay.
- 2:11BRIAN DERRICK: Well, we're definitely gonna talk about it, and everything else as it relates to the midterms.
- 2:18BRIAN DERRICK: It is that time of year.
- 2:20BRIAN DERRICK: Glennis and I are both a haggard mess.
- 2:23BRIAN DERRICK: We're starving.
- 2:24BRIAN DERRICK: We haven't slept.
- 2:25BRIAN DERRICK: We're working around the clock.
- 2:27BRIAN DERRICK: I'm just trying to hold it together for a couple more weeks and collapse on the other side of Election Day, but thanks, y'all, for tuning in.
- 2:36BRIAN DERRICK: Should we get into it?
- 2:38GLENNIS MEAGHER: Let's get into it.
- 2:39BRIAN DERRICK: Do you wanna start with Iowa or do we wanna start national?
- 2:43BRIAN DERRICK: You tell me.
- 2:44GLENNIS MEAGHER: Let's start national.
- 2:45GLENNIS MEAGHER: Let's, like, zoom out.
- 2:46GLENNIS MEAGHER: What… How are we feeling?
- 2:48GLENNIS MEAGHER: What's the big picture?
- 2:49GLENNIS MEAGHER: Has any polling changed?
- 2:51GLENNIS MEAGHER: I saw some really interesting numbers on Kansas- Mm-hmm … Texas.
- 2:57GLENNIS MEAGHER: But I'm still concerned
- 3:00BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 3:01BRIAN DERRICK: The vibes, I think, are high.
- 3:04BRIAN DERRICK: I think that people are optimistic, but- Sure … but not joyous because I was looking back at some 2024 clips and reels and posts on Instagram and whatnot, and it, it's not like that.
- 3:16BRIAN DERRICK: It definitely doesn't feel like-
- 3:18GLENNIS MEAGHER: Change… BRIAN DERRICK: exciting in that way.
- 3:21GLENNIS MEAGHER: Maybe bec- I mean, partially 'cause it's just not a presidential, but I think also people have been burned many times.
- 3:28GLENNIS MEAGHER: And so- Mm-hmm … people are feeling aggressive.
- 3:31GLENNIS MEAGHER: People wanna play in red states, and Kansas is suddenly looking competitive, and South Carolina is suddenly looking competitive and all these things.
- 3:38GLENNIS MEAGHER: But I think in the back of people's mind, they're a little bit like,"I've heard this story before." We have played starring roles in this movie of being optimistic, seeing a, a bright future where we could push people to be more progressive in front of us, and here we are in Trump 2.0.
- 3:58GLENNIS MEAGHER: So yeah, that's like the vibe, right?
- 3:59GLENNIS MEAGHER: People are like, "Okay, there's maybe some opportunity here, but let's see what happens on November 3rd."
- 4:06BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 4:06BRIAN DERRICK: I think that's right.
- 4:07BRIAN DERRICK: The challenge right now is trying to keep people focused on the real things and the winnable things and the things that they can do because we always know that there's gonna be a shiny object.
- 4:19BRIAN DERRICK: But it's pretty consistent where help is needed the most and where power is really gonna be decided.
- 4:27BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 4:27BRIAN DERRICK: And it's not the Kansas Senate race or the South Carolina Senate race or those kinds of things.
- 4:33BRIAN DERRICK: It's further down the ballot.
- 4:34BRIAN DERRICK: It's gubernatorial races.
- 4:36BRIAN DERRICK: Mm. It's securing or breaking trifectas.
- 4:39BRIAN DERRICK: It's all kinds of things that are going under the radar that will actually determine how good of a year it is for Democrats, not whether we flip Florida's Senate seat Sorry
- 4:51GLENNIS MEAGHER: Even though that would be really cool and great.
- 4:53GLENNIS MEAGHER: Just
- 4:54BRIAN DERRICK: saying.
- 4:54BRIAN DERRICK: I'm not gonna say no.
- 4:54BRIAN DERRICK: I'm not gonna say no if it's offered.
- 4:56BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 4:56BRIAN DERRICK: But-
- 4:57GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah… BRIAN DERRICK: I think let's talk We've talked a lot about the Senate.
- 5:01GLENNIS MEAGHER: The Senate is an uphill battle.
- 5:02GLENNIS MEAGHER: Democrats need to flip four seats in order to secure the barest of majorities, and we have John Fetterman.
- 5:08GLENNIS MEAGHER: So people should just put that in the back of their mind, that it's like- Yeah … Joe Manchin 2.0 all over again.
- 5:13GLENNIS MEAGHER: Oh, my God.
- 5:14GLENNIS MEAGHER: Um, and- Forgot about him.
- 5:15BRIAN DERRICK: I know.
- 5:16BRIAN DERRICK: My God.
- 5:16BRIAN DERRICK: That, that wasn't even that long ago.
- 5:18GLENNIS MEAGHER: I know, but Brian, I mean, look at Mitch McConnell.
- 5:21GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like, it's hard to keep up with the oldies.
- 5:25BRIAN DERRICK: It is hard to keep up with the oldies.
- 5:26BRIAN DERRICK: So in the battle for the House, Dems are looking really good.
- 5:29BRIAN DERRICK: They have added six more seats to what's known as the Red to Blue program, which is the DCCC, the Democrats' House campaign arm.
- 5:37BRIAN DERRICK: They've added six additional targets of seats that they're trying to flip because they're feeling very bullish.
- 5:42BRIAN DERRICK: Some of those are even Trump plus 20 seats- Wow … from 2024.
- 5:47BRIAN DERRICK: That's crazy.
- 5:48BRIAN DERRICK: So the numbers that they're seeing, the polling that they're doing is definitely showing an amazing year for Democrats.
- 5:53BRIAN DERRICK: People are talking about 2006 as the most recent midterm election that is analogous.
- 5:59BRIAN DERRICK: We don't know- We don't know if, if the, if it's gonna be at that level.
- 6:02BRIAN DERRICK: But what we do know is even if it's not a 2006 all over again, what it is going to be is proof that Republicans' gerrymandering efforts were for naught.
- 6:15GLENNIS MEAGHER: For naught.
- 6:16GLENNIS MEAGHER: For naught.
- 6:17BRIAN DERRICK: Um, were a big fucking waste, and actually-
- 6:19GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah… BRIAN DERRICK: may have helped that is going to cost them so many seats in the House.
- 6:26GLENNIS MEAGHER: Okay, why?
- 6:27GLENNIS MEAGHER: Is it because they actually drew the maps wrong, or because the public are pissed about being manipulated in that way and being put in districts that don't actually represent them?
- 6:37GLENNIS MEAGHER: Both?
- 6:38BRIAN DERRICK: Both! Both.
- 6:39BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 6:40BRIAN DERRICK: Which we love.
- 6:40BRIAN DERRICK: So they drew the maps based on the 2024 vote when Republicans were so high on their own supply, thought that Latinos had embraced the Republican Party forever, thought that young people were, like, diehard MAGA now, and so they redrew all these maps based on that voter turnout.
- 7:00BRIAN DERRICK: People had buyer's remorse, as we've talked about, real quick from 2024 once they started assassinating people in the streets.
- 7:06BRIAN DERRICK: They were like, "Oops, I just wanted gas to be cheaper." Now gas is double the cost that it was.
- 7:12BRIAN DERRICK: Oops.
- 7:13GLENNIS MEAGHER: Literally double,
- 7:14BRIAN DERRICK: yeah.
- 7:14BRIAN DERRICK: And people are no longer looking like their 2024 vote is a good predictor of their next vote.
- 7:22BRIAN DERRICK: Because they used that data to draw the maps, the maps were drawn wrong.
- 7:26BRIAN DERRICK: They thought that they were drawing, like, R plus 10, R plus 12, or even 15 seats, and they might actually be like R plus five seats or R plus one seats or D plus one seats in this environment-
- 7:39GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah… BRIAN DERRICK: when In 2028, it's a different story, and we have to deal the, with that- Yeah when we get to it because we might not be in a environment that has the Democrats up 10 points on the generic ballot.
- 7:52GLENNIS MEAGHER: But for now, it looks like they actually cost themselves seats through the gerrymander because they gerrymandered Texas and Florida, most notably, thinking that they were gonna get 10 seats out of that.
- 8:05GLENNIS MEAGHER: They're not.
- 8:06GLENNIS MEAGHER: They might get, like, four.
- 8:09GLENNIS MEAGHER: But we redistricted California and got new maps in Utah to counteract that.
- 8:16GLENNIS MEAGHER: And so- Yeah … actually could be a net gain for Dems- Yeah … from those redraws.
- 8:23GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 8:23GLENNIS MEAGHER: Dems were like, "Two can play that game." Did you see that New Political poll this morning that, to your point about 2028, that 50% of Dem midterm voters say that if Dems win, it's because of how bad Trump is, while only 35% say it's because of truly good policies from Dems.
- 8:45GLENNIS MEAGHER: Totally.
- 8:45GLENNIS MEAGHER: So that's like the tea leaves, right?
- 8:48GLENNIS MEAGHER: This is a referendum on Trump and how badly he's turned this country into a dumpster fire and impacted people's daily cost of living and basic human rights, not that they're so inspired by and motivated by Democratic candidates.
- 9:03GLENNIS MEAGHER: So take note.
- 9:05BRIAN DERRICK: Yes, I agree.
- 9:06BRIAN DERRICK: But that is also the nature of a midterm election cycle.
- 9:09GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 9:10BRIAN DERRICK: Midterms are a referendum on the party in power.
- 9:13BRIAN DERRICK: Democrats do not have an elected leader right now.
- 9:17BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 9:17BRIAN DERRICK: We have somebody in the Senate.
- 9:19BRIAN DERRICK: We have somebody in the House.
- 9:20BRIAN DERRICK: They're both in the minority.
- 9:21BRIAN DERRICK: And then we have a bunch of candidates, most of whom are not even in office, spending billions of dollars behind different messages, different issues, different takes, different plans and paths forward.
- 9:34BRIAN DERRICK: And that's- Yeah … just how a midterm goes.
- 9:36BRIAN DERRICK: It actually helps our candidates that they can have their own message, and they don't all need to either agree with or disagree with someone at the top of the ticket who's saying something different, whereas Republicans are all being whipped around by Donald Trump saying he wants more data centers.
- 9:52BRIAN DERRICK: Suddenly, like, when Trump says he wants more data centers and data centers are good, every Republican has to respond and either say, "I disagree with the president," or,"Yes, I'm pro-data center," both of which are terrible options for them.
- 10:03BRIAN DERRICK: So I wouldn't expect a bunch of people to be like, "Wow, I'm blown away by Democrats' cohesive plans for next year," because Republicans will still be in power.
- 10:14BRIAN DERRICK: That's not the name of the game.
- 10:15BRIAN DERRICK: Trump will still be in the White House.
- 10:15BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 10:15BRIAN DERRICK: There's nothing that they can, they can do.
- 10:16BRIAN DERRICK: So that will change in '28 when we have a leading presidential candidate or a bunch of them that are pitching- Mm … a proactive vision for what it looks like to move on from this chapter of American history.
- 10:31BRIAN DERRICK: Away from Trump, with him out of the White House permanently.
- 10:35BRIAN DERRICK: Hallelujah, we're so close to having that be a daily talking point.
- 10:39GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 10:39BRIAN DERRICK: Then we'll have a vision that people can get excited about.
- 10:42BRIAN DERRICK: We'll have someone running for office who's under the age of 70, and can actually speak to what the future is gonna be.
- 10:52BRIAN DERRICK: And then- Yeah … people can rally around that.
- 10:54GLENNIS MEAGHER: My concern is that we do well in the midterms and Dems are like, "Well, we did that." So I'm projecting the, the take note.
- 11:03GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like, I need our strategists, our leadership to actually do something with the momentum, so.
- 11:10BRIAN DERRICK: I hear you.
- 11:11BRIAN DERRICK: No one hates Democrats more than Democrats.
- 11:13BRIAN DERRICK: I hear you.
- 11:14BRIAN DERRICK: No one beats up on Democrats more than Democrats.
- 11:16BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 11:16BRIAN DERRICK: And so I have no, I'm under no illusion that-
- 11:21GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah… BRIAN DERRICK: post-midterms like, "Damn, we're amazing.
- 11:26GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like, we, we really have it all figured out now." I'm like, "No, I don't think so." Like- Not really… BRIAN DERRICK: yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 11:33GLENNIS MEAGHER: But that's- Um just kind of the nature of the beast.
- 11:35GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah, yeah.
- 11:36GLENNIS MEAGHER: Okay.
- 11:36GLENNIS MEAGHER: Well-
- 11:37BRIAN DERRICK: So polling headlines and vibes are all pointing to big Democratic wins in November.
- 11:46BRIAN DERRICK: I do like to listen to the Minority Report because I learned a lesson from one of my favorite movies from the, what, '90s?
- 11:55BRIAN DERRICK: 2000s.
- 11:55GLENNIS MEAGHER: What movie?
- 11:56GLENNIS MEAGHER: Minority Report?
- 11:57BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 11:57BRIAN DERRICK: Tom Cruise.
- 11:58GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah, it's… I know about Minority Report.
- 12:01GLENNIS MEAGHER: I actually just watched it for the first time, I think, like, two years ago.
- 12:04GLENNIS MEAGHER: Remind me the plot.
- 12:05GLENNIS MEAGHER: What?
- 12:06BRIAN DERRICK: It's a
- 12:06GLENNIS MEAGHER: good- I know… BRIAN DERRICK: it's a good movie.
- 12:07GLENNIS MEAGHER: My friend, like, sat me down in, like, a chamber of secrets and was like, "You have to watch Minority Report."
- 12:13BRIAN DERRICK: Um- Wait, that was me this weekend with a group.
- 12:16GLENNIS MEAGHER: I
- 12:16BRIAN DERRICK: made a- So
- 12:16GLENNIS MEAGHER: what did you make them watch?
- 12:17BRIAN DERRICK: I made a-- No, I made a White Chicks joke, and no one had seen White Chicks, and I was like-
- 12:23GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 12:24GLENNIS MEAGHER: Well, can I ask the age demo?
- 12:26GLENNIS MEAGHER: The age demo of the group?
- 12:27BRIAN DERRICK: 30s.
- 12:28BRIAN DERRICK: It was absurd.
- 12:29BRIAN DERRICK: They should've seen White Chicks.
- 12:30BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 12:30BRIAN DERRICK: It was-- And some of them listen to this, so shame on you.
- 12:32BRIAN DERRICK: We need to schedule time to view- Yeah … this important piece of culture.
- 12:36BRIAN DERRICK: Mandatory.
- 12:38BRIAN DERRICK: More important- Okay, Mino- More importantly … yeah,
- 12:39GLENNIS MEAGHER: Minority Report.
- 12:40BRIAN DERRICK: Minority Report.
- 12:41BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 12:41BRIAN DERRICK: There is some data that's giving me a little bit of hesitation that there is an alternate sort of interpretation of some of what's going on that results in less of a sweeping, like, blowout election- Yeah for Dems.
- 12:57BRIAN DERRICK: There's some data coming out from State Navigate, which is one of the only groups in the country that does data collection at the state legislative level, and it's showing that one of the seats that we flipped in a special election since Trump got elected has flipped back to Republicans.
- 13:14BRIAN DERRICK: This is in Iowa.
- 13:15BRIAN DERRICK: And so Iowa's one of the places that- Where
- 13:17GLENNIS MEAGHER: in Iowa?
- 13:19GLENNIS MEAGHER: Now that I feel like d- directly connected to Iowa, I'm like, where in Iowa?
- 13:24GLENNIS MEAGHER: Who was it?
- 13:24BRIAN DERRICK: I don't know, man.
- 13:25BRIAN DERRICK: I know.
- 13:26BRIAN DERRICK: I mean, it's S- it's like SD 35, but I don't know- Okay … where in Iowa that is.
- 13:29BRIAN DERRICK: I'll have, I'll have to look it up.
- 13:31BRIAN DERRICK: It's, uh, S- yeah, SD 35.
- 13:32BRIAN DERRICK: I'm brilliant.
- 13:33BRIAN DERRICK: Got the memory of an elephant over here.
- 13:35GLENNIS MEAGHER: Period.
- 13:36BRIAN DERRICK: What they're saying is Trump voters are systematically hiding and being undercounted in these polls.
- 13:45BRIAN DERRICK: And then a separate polling firm came out and gave an analysis of where it's the hardest to contact Republicans.
- 13:56BRIAN DERRICK: You don't just call random people for a poll.
- 13:58BRIAN DERRICK: You call Republicans, you ask them how they're feeling.
- 14:00BRIAN DERRICK: You call Democrats, you ask them how they're feeling.
- 14:02BRIAN DERRICK: You call independents, you ask them how they're feeling, and then you weight their answers to reflect- Yeah … what you think the overall electorate in that state looks like.
- 14:09BRIAN DERRICK: In this map, the exact places where they are currently having the hardest time reaching Republicans to get those opinions are the exact states where Democrats are overperforming the most in polls.
- 14:21BRIAN DERRICK: It's Iowa, it is Kansas, it is Nebraska, Ohio.
- 14:29BRIAN DERRICK: So the exact places- Okay … where currently Dems are feeling the most bullish because of polling that have, in recent elections, been bad for Dems-
- 14:40GLENNIS MEAGHER: Well… BRIAN DERRICK: is exactly minority report, but could be a systemic error in the polling.
- 14:48GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 14:48GLENNIS MEAGHER: And, and to be clear, I mean, like in Kansas, they haven't sent a Democrat to the Senate since 1932, so it's not like Basically what you're saying is that there could be a world in which Republicans are, like, purposely evading calls from pollsters or, like, deliberately not showing their hand, and that is why the polls that we are seeing for these key swing states are so favorable for Dems because Republicans just aren't answering the phone and telling them what they're thinking or how they're voting.
- 15:18GLENNIS MEAGHER: All of that to say, that's the thesis of Vibes Only, the podcast, which is polling says one thing.
- 15:23GLENNIS MEAGHER: You can't trust it.
- 15:24GLENNIS MEAGHER: Vibes also says another thing.
- 15:25GLENNIS MEAGHER: We talked about it in the beginning of the pod of, like, it's not f- feeling that joyful.
- 15:31GLENNIS MEAGHER: Everyone still has work to do.
- 15:32GLENNIS MEAGHER: There's less than a month.
- 15:34GLENNIS MEAGHER: I'm gonna die on this hill.
- 15:36GLENNIS MEAGHER: Text your people, call your people, make a voting plan, vote early because yeah, we could find out that Republicans are just like… Do I think they're strategic enough in SD 35 in Iowa to be like, "Don't answer the phone. We're gonna trick 'em"?
- 15:50GLENNIS MEAGHER: No.
- 15:51GLENNIS MEAGHER: But maybe they just don't wanna talk about it and they're like silent MAGA warriors and they're just gonna go vote and don't wanna be involved with, like, all of the electoral bullshit, but are true believers in the Donald Trump MAGA movement and are just gonna go vote.
- 16:04GLENNIS MEAGHER: So heard.
- 16:05BRIAN DERRICK: No, it's that.
- 16:06BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 16:06BRIAN DERRICK: I wanna be clear.
- 16:07BRIAN DERRICK: It's that.
- 16:08BRIAN DERRICK: I'm not proposing that there, that there's a conspiracy-
- 16:11GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 16:12GLENNIS MEAGHER: … BRIAN DERRICK: only that is undercounting them, like has happened- Mm … in the past.
- 16:17GLENNIS MEAGHER: No, I had some MAGA warriors in my face in Iowa, and I… One, e- everyone had been, like, drinking, right?
- 16:23GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like, I'm sober Sally, like, at this tailgate, and it's just, like, college students Some really dark sided stuff, honestly, like with the college students.
- 16:31GLENNIS MEAGHER: But then, like, this, like, older woman, MAGA warrior, Trump's strongest soldier, in my face, and I'm just like, "Go Hawks." Like, I'm not gonna convince you of anything.
- 16:42GLENNIS MEAGHER: It was kinda crazy to see, like, in, in 2026, our year of the Lord, to be so… Such a true believer.
- 16:51GLENNIS MEAGHER: It blew my mind.
- 16:52BRIAN DERRICK: I think that there's, like, a certain amount of shame that some, not o- not all, but some Trump voters, not MAGA superstars, but Trump voters feel that also makes them harder to count.
- 17:05BRIAN DERRICK: Because people know what Trump has done and how just grotesque of a person he is, and some people are just willing to vote for him anyway and sort of make that deal with the devil.
- 17:17BRIAN DERRICK: But maybe not tell people that they're making that deal with the devil.
- 17:22GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah, shame, shame, shame, shame.
- 17:25GLENNIS MEAGHER: Shame.
- 17:25BRIAN DERRICK: Should we talk about SCOTUS?
- 17:26GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah, SCOTUS is back.
- 17:28GLENNIS MEAGHER: Let's pivot to some more shameful topics, the Supreme Court of the United States of America.
- 17:34GLENNIS MEAGHER: Last week, well, they're back in session.
- 17:36GLENNIS MEAGHER: Their docket's only half full, so we got a kind of a, we have, like, a idea of what half of the cases are gonna be, but then there's still a whole nother half, so I'm like, "What?" We talked last week about how we f- we felt like we were on the other side of a potential new Supreme Court judge, no retirements, et cetera.
- 17:58GLENNIS MEAGHER: But I saw on your Instagram this morning, Brian Derrick, maybe we're not.
- 18:03BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah, there's been a lot of panic in the last couple of days because Samuel Alito, who is pretty close to the devil incarnate, gave an interview and was asked, "So about retirement," because he's currently, checks notes, 76, and he's like, "Yeah, I've been thinking about it.
- 18:25BRIAN DERRICK: I've decided that I have more" … They say the same shit that they always say.
- 18:28BRIAN DERRICK: Like, "I have more to give for the country for now." Um, but I'm always considering- More to take away.
- 18:34BRIAN DERRICK: Oh, there's renewed concern that Republicans are going to pressure him to step down during the lame duck if we flip the Senate.
- 18:44BRIAN DERRICK: If we don't flip the Senate, this is all a moot point because- Mm.
- 18:48BRIAN DERRICK: He, again, he can step down either of the next two years and have Republicans replace him.
- 18:54BRIAN DERRICK: But If we do flip the Senate, they will have a very narrow window of about two months where they could try to get it done, and there's low-key nothing Democrats could really do to stop them- Yeah … in that window.
- 19:10BRIAN DERRICK: I mean, I would argue in 2029, we would just need to take more drastic action to expand the court, institute term limits, remove someone from the court because of the stolen seat, et cetera.
- 19:24BRIAN DERRICK: But it would be very challenging given our current 47 seats to stop them from doing it if he cooperated.
- 19:34BRIAN DERRICK: Not that it would prevent them from doing it, but one of the only points of friction is that it would be such a naked partisan power grab to do it in the lame duck that it would increase the likelihood of full-on court reform, which Republicans- Yeah are trying to avoid at all costs.
- 19:55BRIAN DERRICK: And we've talked about this before, but sometimes threatening the Supreme Court has been enough in American history to get them in line basically.
- 20:05GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 20:05GLENNIS MEAGHER: We should FDR their ass and expand the court.
- 20:08BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 20:11GLENNIS MEAGHER: I was looking at some of what they're gonna be ruling on.
- 20:13GLENNIS MEAGHER: Have you seen- Yeah have you looked at this?
- 20:14GLENNIS MEAGHER: Let's talk about it.
- 20:15GLENNIS MEAGHER: The first one is on climate change.
- 20:19GLENNIS MEAGHER: Al Gore, where are you?
- 20:20GLENNIS MEAGHER: This is huge energy companies versus Boulder County in Colorado, whether federal law blocks states and cities from suing all oil companies under state law for climate changes.
- 20:30GLENNIS MEAGHER: That would be horrific if states lost the constitutional right to sue big oil.
- 20:37GLENNIS MEAGHER: We need that.
- 20:38GLENNIS MEAGHER: There's another case in December around AR-15s, around semi-automatic rifles.
- 20:44GLENNIS MEAGHER: It could be or is, I think, the biggest gun case that the court is going to hear in years.
- 20:49GLENNIS MEAGHER: As a reminder, there's been literally no substantial gun reform since any mass shooting in this country, including that of kindergartners in Connecticut.
- 21:01BRIAN DERRICK: What did the Biden gun bill do?
- 21:02GLENNIS MEAGHER: What the Biden administration did do was they opened, like, an entire office out of the White House run by Greg Jackson Jr. around gun reform.
- 21:11BRIAN DERRICK: It was mostly background checks, because there was also the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act signed by President Biden on June 25th, 2022, the most significant federal gun safety legislation enacted in 30 years.
- 21:22BRIAN DERRICK: I mean- Mm … definitely didn't do- Enough … everything, but he got something done.
- 21:27GLENNIS MEAGHER: He did, yeah.
- 21:28GLENNIS MEAGHER: Sorry, Joey B., I left that out.
- 21:31GLENNIS MEAGHER: But, you know, the thing about guns is, like, you can print a gun with a, with a 3D printer at home.
- 21:38GLENNIS MEAGHER: You don't even need to go to a shop.
- 21:40GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like, it, it is really crazy, guns in this country.
- 21:43GLENNIS MEAGHER: There's another case in December about whether the administration can deport people to third countries.
- 21:48GLENNIS MEAGHER: As many people probably know, people who are being deported are not even being deported back to the country that they immigrated from.
- 21:55GLENNIS MEAGHER: They're being deported to a third country that they have no connection or relation to.
- 22:02GLENNIS MEAGHER: Some more on how long we can detain non-citizens before they trigger a right to a bond hearing.
- 22:11GLENNIS MEAGHER: It goes on and on I mean,
- 22:12BRIAN DERRICK: indefinite detention without charges
- 22:15GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's, like, so deeply anti-American to do that.
- 22:20GLENNIS MEAGHER: So yeah, just, you know, gird your loins, everyone.
- 22:24GLENNIS MEAGHER: SCOTUS is back in session.
- 22:26BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 22:27BRIAN DERRICK: Gotta, gotta, gotta fix the court.
- 22:29BRIAN DERRICK: It's not something that the next president should run on, but it's something that they have to be down with.
- 22:34BRIAN DERRICK: Okay.
- 22:35GLENNIS MEAGHER: Speaking of a lot of sunshine, Brian, did you… For those who are audio only, Brian, there's a intense glare with his sunny windows in his office.
- 22:44GLENNIS MEAGHER: That clip of Donald Trump saying that the war's gonna be over soon, everyone just has to deal with it, and why don't we just, like, give up LA and San Diego and nuke them
- 22:58DONALD TRUMP: With the war, it's just artificial.
- 22:59DONALD TRUMP: It's a little bit high.
- 23:00DONALD TRUMP: It's a small price to pay for keeping the world safe, keeping our country safe.
- 23:05DONALD TRUMP: They can take out a city.
- 23:06DONALD TRUMP: Let them take out Los Angeles.
- 23:08DONALD TRUMP: Let them take out San Diego.
- 23:11BRIAN DERRICK: Yes, I did see this.
- 23:12BRIAN DERRICK: Again, it sort of speaks to why this is a referendum on Trump, that like no, people are not listening to Democrats' plans for economic policy when the president is talking about a foreign power literally blowing up some of our most populous cities, centers.
- 23:33GLENNIS MEAGHER: Not only that, Brian, San Diego is a huge military hub.
- 23:38GLENNIS MEAGHER: A huge portion of our Navy is in San Diego.
- 23:41GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's-- it was-- it's insane to me.
- 23:43GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 23:45GLENNIS MEAGHER: And then he's like, "Everybody go vote and shove it up their ass." And I'm like, "What?"
- 23:51BRIAN DERRICK: Did he say that?
- 23:53GLENNIS MEAGHER: You didn't see that?
- 23:54GLENNIS MEAGHER: He was like, "Everyone's gotta get out and vote.
- 23:56GLENNIS MEAGHER: Pretend I'm on the ballot.
- 23:57GLENNIS MEAGHER: Pretend you're voting for me, and then shove it up Democrats' ass." And I'm like, "What?" Like, "Are you okay?" I mean, obviously not, but he's just off, really, really off script.
- 24:13DONALD TRUMP: Just get out and vote.
- 24:14DONALD TRUMP: If you do that, we're gonna win and we're gonna win big.
- 24:17DONALD TRUMP: Yeah.
- 24:17DONALD TRUMP: And we're gonna shove it up their ass, okay?
- 24:22BRIAN DERRICK: A lot of his campaign team has just straight up given up.
- 24:25BRIAN DERRICK: A lot of them have resigned.
- 24:27BRIAN DERRICK: There's a whole article, say, in Politico about his team being abroad working on foreign governments and campaigns for foreign leaders because they don't see a path here, and they're just trying to cash in.
- 24:42BRIAN DERRICK: It's bad.
- 24:43BRIAN DERRICK: It is, it is bad for Republicans.
- 24:45GLENNIS MEAGHER: I was listening to some podcast this morning.
- 24:48GLENNIS MEAGHER: I don't recall who it was, but they brought up Texas and Ken Paxton's in some trouble.
- 24:56GLENNIS MEAGHER: What's up with the polling in Texas?
- 24:59BRIAN DERRICK: T- talking about how mess- how big of a mess Republicans are right now, Paxton is already playing the blame game.
- 25:06BRIAN DERRICK: Like, I- I'm not saying that it's a done deal in, in Texas and that Talarico's gonna win the Senate seat there.
- 25:11BRIAN DERRICK: That's specifically not what I'm saying.
- 25:13BRIAN DERRICK: But I will say that Paxton thinks that that is enough of a probability that he seems relatively focused on whose fault it is compared to how to fix the situation.
- 25:27BRIAN DERRICK: In the last couple of days, he's made news saying things like Trump's midterm convention in the state hurt his polling numbers, that he has no idea why we're at war in Iran, and he thinks that diesel and gas prices are crushing the Republicans, and he has no explanation for it.
- 25:45BRIAN DERRICK: He has said that he feels he has no control over campaign messaging because his entire campaign has been outsourced to super PACs run by billionaires and DC, and so he has no message for voters in Texas.
- 25:59BRIAN DERRICK: Oh.
- 26:00BRIAN DERRICK: It's overall just a very bad situation on the ground, and he's leaking like a sieve.
- 26:09BRIAN DERRICK: Sieve?
- 26:10GLENNIS MEAGHER: Sieve?
- 26:11GLENNIS MEAGHER: I think it's a sieve.
- 26:12BRIAN DERRICK: Leaking like a sieve.
- 26:14BRIAN DERRICK: His campaign is full of people who wanna talk to the media about how bad things are going.
- 26:20BRIAN DERRICK: So it is indicative, I think, of how panicked Republicans really are at this point, that they're already trying to set up scapegoats for the loss.
- 26:32GLENNIS MEAGHER: Let's see what happens.
- 26:33GLENNIS MEAGHER: I mean, Ken Paxton, we've talked about this a lot, is, like, hyperbolically a horrible candidate.
- 26:41GLENNIS MEAGHER: 100% corrupt, impeached by his own party, deeply unlikable.
- 26:47GLENNIS MEAGHER: That's what you get.
- 26:49GLENNIS MEAGHER: I'm feeling positive.
- 26:50GLENNIS MEAGHER: Texas is my last weekend.
- 26:51GLENNIS MEAGHER: I'm closing out the tour in Texas, and I'm excited because that, to me… I feel like also that race, the Talarico-Paxton race, to me, has the most national attention for the Senate races.
- 27:03GLENNIS MEAGHER: Maybe El-Sayed is, like, second behind there.
- 27:06GLENNIS MEAGHER: For a while, obviously, it was Graham Platner, but now, I mean, I don't know if you watched the-- We're showing clips from the Collins-Jackson debate last night.
- 27:15GLENNIS MEAGHER: I feel like the Tal- the Talarico race is exciting and is, is getting people really engaged again in Democratic politics.
- 27:22GLENNIS MEAGHER: So let's see.
- 27:23GLENNIS MEAGHER: But I saw one clip from the Jackson-Collins debate.
- 27:26GLENNIS MEAGHER: That race, we're not looking good though, right?
- 27:28BRIAN DERRICK: Uh, it's not great.
- 27:30BRIAN DERRICK: I would say it's, like, 50/50 maybe.
- 27:33BRIAN DERRICK: Maybe slightly advantage to her
- 27:36GLENNIS MEAGHER: Maybe we can find the clip and roll it.
- 27:38GLENNIS MEAGHER: She was talking about a trade war in Canada.
- 27:41GLENNIS MEAGHER: She was like, "I was successful in getting concrete, pulp, and road salt removed from the tariff list,"'cause they're big in Maine, I guess.
- 27:47GLENNIS MEAGHER: And Troy Jackson responds,"What about everything else?
- 27:50GLENNIS MEAGHER: We can't eat road salt."
- 27:53BRIAN DERRICK: It's a good line.
- 27:54GLENNIS MEAGHER: It is.
- 27:55GLENNIS MEAGHER: You know what it was giving to me a little bit?
- 27:57BRIAN DERRICK: Tell me.
- 27:57GLENNIS MEAGHER: Meet the Parents.
- 27:58GLENNIS MEAGHER: I have nipples, Greg.
- 28:00GLENNIS MEAGHER: Could you milk me?
- 28:06BRIAN DERRICK: Uh, yeah, it's true.
- 28:07SUSAN COLLINS: Troy mocked it, but I was successful in getting concrete, pulp, and road salt removed from the tariff list.
- 28:20TROY JACKSON: That what about everything else?
- 28:21TROY JACKSON: I mean, we, we can't eat road salt.
- 28:23TROY JACKSON: And, and the thing about it is, is that w- everything that she's doing with Iran war and stuff like that, there's gonna be so many less people that'll be able to afford to drive that I'm not even sure the road salt's gonna be worth anything either.
- 28:35BRIAN DERRICK: Susan Collins is such a bag of dog shit, and also Maine buys her bullshit every time.
- 28:43BRIAN DERRICK: So not to talk shit on Maine, but I don't know that we're dealing with-
- 28:51GLENNIS MEAGHER: Oh.
- 28:53GLENNIS MEAGHER: … BRIAN DERRICK: rational- Don't go there… BRIAN DERRICK: actors.
- 28:55GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 28:56BRIAN DERRICK: Um-
- 28:56GLENNIS MEAGHER: It is, I mean, Brian, think about the story we talked about two weeks ago about her campaign finance violations.
- 29:03GLENNIS MEAGHER: Allegedly, she had some misconduct.
- 29:08GLENNIS MEAGHER: That, four years ago, would've been career-ending, and now it was a blip in the radar.
- 29:16GLENNIS MEAGHER: Right.
- 29:16BRIAN DERRICK: Moved on immediately, yeah.
- 29:18BRIAN DERRICK: The fact that that level of corruption is not even registering with people anymore is the truest sign that we have peaked in Trump's America.
- 29:31GLENNIS MEAGHER: I, I, I know I've died on this hill for the last three, four years, but, like, we the taxpayers pay their salary.
- 29:37GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like, why… I- What if I was that corrupt?
- 29:40GLENNIS MEAGHER: What if I just decided, "IRS, I'm not paying anymore. You're gonna send my ass to jail, and fast." Why isn't your ass in jail, Susan Collins, for alleged campaign finance issues?
- 29:55BRIAN DERRICK: Get her.
- 29:56GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah, I'm just like, American citizens are held to a completely different standard than the elected officials who represent us, and that's a problem.
- 30:03BRIAN DERRICK: Yep.
- 30:03GLENNIS MEAGHER: Also, the IRS has fucked up my taxes this year big time, and, like, I called my accountant on it, and they were like, "Yeah, there's a huge issue at the IRS. Things aren't getting done, and their entire online payment portal is shut down."
- 30:16BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah, I regret paying my taxes.
- 30:18GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 30:19GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like, they, they-
- 30:22BRIAN DERRICK: Every
- 30:22GLENNIS MEAGHER: day.
- 30:22GLENNIS MEAGHER: I c- I don't even wanna, like, tell you.
- 30:24GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's just, like, so bad what they've done with my taxes, and I'm like, "Okay, you just aren't doing your job."
- 30:31BRIAN DERRICK: Clickbait or double-click.
- 30:33BRIAN DERRICK: This is our segment where we go through the headlines of the week and decide if they're clickbait and someone is rage-baiting you somewhere, or if it's a double-click and we should be paying more attention to it.
- 30:46BRIAN DERRICK: What do you think, Glennis?
- 30:47BRIAN DERRICK: First one Trump will not reimburse taxpayers for the 10 million-plus dollars in ads that we have paid for him for the midterm elections.
- 31:02GLENNIS MEAGHER: I think I talked about this last week where when I listen to the news now, I'm just like, "Well, duh. Well, duh," like around Trump and his corruption.
- 31:09GLENNIS MEAGHER: And I'm like, this in theory, as per my previous rant about American citizens being held to a completely different standard than our elected officials, particularly the, the president of the United States of America, should be a double click because this should piss everyone off.
- 31:23GLENNIS MEAGHER: $11.5 million from your pocket, whether it be .5 cents per or whatever, went to a political ad for the president of the United States of America, someone that potentially you didn't even vote for.
- 31:39BRIAN DERRICK: Well, not even potentially.
- 31:42GLENNIS MEAGHER: Well, like, uh, actually with our listeners- We definitely didn't … you didn't vote for.
- 31:45GLENNIS MEAGHER: I'm like thinking we have MAGA listeners out there, you know?
- 31:47GLENNIS MEAGHER: I'm trying to reach, reach across the aisle.
- 31:49GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah, uh, it's just like total bullshit.
- 31:51BRIAN DERRICK: If so, they're just trying to identify where we are to come find us.
- 31:54GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 31:54GLENNIS MEAGHER: Literally, I know.
- 31:55GLENNIS MEAGHER: I'm like, "Don't, don't dox me." But here's-- Like, we've talked about this also.
- 31:58GLENNIS MEAGHER: We want the Democratic presidential candidate to have accountability as one of their pillars.
- 32:04GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 32:05BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 32:06GLENNIS MEAGHER: Straight to jail.
- 32:06BRIAN DERRICK: Jail.
- 32:07BRIAN DERRICK: Jail.
- 32:07BRIAN DERRICK: Jail.
- 32:07GLENNIS MEAGHER: Jail.
- 32:08BRIAN DERRICK: Jail.
- 32:08BRIAN DERRICK: Jail.
- 32:09BRIAN DERRICK: Jail.
- 32:09BRIAN DERRICK: Jail.
- 32:09BRIAN DERRICK: Jail.
- 32:10GLENNIS MEAGHER: Not, no prison, federal prison, supermax.
- 32:13GLENNIS MEAGHER: Not jail, not the Schenectady County Jail that I had to go to in high school from-
- 32:19BRIAN DERRICK: For?
- 32:20GLENNIS MEAGHER: Not for me.
- 32:21GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like, the teachers brought us- Sure… to show us what could happen.
- 32:24BRIAN DERRICK: Sure.
- 32:25BRIAN DERRICK: Sure, sure, sure.
- 32:25GLENNIS MEAGHER: No, didn't that happen at your school?
- 32:27GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 32:27GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like, they would bring you to jail to show you what would happen if
- 32:29BRIAN DERRICK: you were bad.
- 32:29BRIAN DERRICK: Gunnar's just like, "Yeah, they brought me there for three weeks.
- 32:31BRIAN DERRICK: It was, it was just a field trip, I swear. I swear." Just a field trip.
- 32:35BRIAN DERRICK: " GLENNIS MEAGHER: Don't check who went to my high school knows what I'm talking about.
- 32:39BRIAN DERRICK: Which by the way, this is a millennial experience.
- 32:40BRIAN DERRICK: I don't think they would ever let, do this to Alpha or Gen Z to be like, "We're, we're taking you on a field trip to jail." Okay, next.
- 32:47BRIAN DERRICK: Speaking of… Oh, this is a bad transition, but I'm gonna do it anyway.
- 32:51BRIAN DERRICK: Speaking of jail, Christa Pike regains consciousness after failed execution in Tennessee.
- 33:00BRIAN DERRICK: Horror show.
- 33:02BRIAN DERRICK: What in the fuck?
- 33:03BRIAN DERRICK: I'm gonna say with me.
- 33:06GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 33:07BRIAN DERRICK: Only because I think that the death penalty's not a voting issue for most people.
- 33:11BRIAN DERRICK: It definitely is a double click for her, let me tell you.
- 33:14BRIAN DERRICK: It's more of like double tap.
- 33:18BRIAN DERRICK: That's Zombieland.
- 33:18GLENNIS MEAGHER: Well, here's the thing.
- 33:21GLENNIS MEAGHER: She, she murdered someone, a classmate, I looked into it, like when she was young.
- 33:25GLENNIS MEAGHER: Murder bad.
- 33:26GLENNIS MEAGHER: Murder not good.
- 33:27GLENNIS MEAGHER: But yeah, it's not a voting issue.
- 33:29GLENNIS MEAGHER: I j- I do think ban the death penalty.
- 33:31GLENNIS MEAGHER: You know, the, some states still have like a shooting line as a death penalty.
- 33:35GLENNIS MEAGHER: That's
- 33:35BRIAN DERRICK: about to happen to some guy, I just read this.
- 33:39BRIAN DERRICK: Maybe South Carolina, they're about to do a firing squad.
- 33:42GLENNIS MEAGHER: Firing squad, which maybe, uh, ban all, ban all death penalty.
- 33:47BRIAN DERRICK: Probably more effective.
- 33:49BRIAN DERRICK: Okay.
- 33:49BRIAN DERRICK: Anyway, so- That's what I was gonna say we haven't even said.
- 33:51BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 33:51BRIAN DERRICK: This woman got two doses, double dosed with a lethal injection, and she's up and talking full on.
- 34:01GLENNIS MEAGHER: They didn't do it right.
- 34:02BRIAN DERRICK: No.
- 34:03BRIAN DERRICK: Who's the guy who survives everything?
- 34:06BRIAN DERRICK: It's, it's like a old fable.
- 34:09GLENNIS MEAGHER: Uh, uh.
- 34:10BRIAN DERRICK: Russian.
- 34:11GLENNIS MEAGHER: Unbreakable.
- 34:12GLENNIS MEAGHER: Unbreakable.
- 34:12GLENNIS MEAGHER: No.
- 34:13GLENNIS MEAGHER: Samuel L. Jackson film, Unbreakable.
- 34:15GLENNIS MEAGHER: I don't know.
- 34:15GLENNIS MEAGHER: No, no.
- 34:16GLENNIS MEAGHER: Rasputin.
- 34:16GLENNIS MEAGHER: I'm not, I wasn't a classics major.
- 34:17BRIAN DERRICK: No, wait.
- 34:18BRIAN DERRICK: Okay.
- 34:19BRIAN DERRICK: Rasputin.
- 34:20BRIAN DERRICK: Isn't Rasputin the one- No … who gets like shot and drowned and-
- 34:25GLENNIS MEAGHER: Rasputin was like the religious advisor to the Tsar Nicholas and the last tsar- Okay … tsarina of Russia.
- 34:32BRIAN DERRICK: What happened to Rasputin?
- 34:35GLENNIS MEAGHER: Well, I think we know what happened to an appendage of Rasputin.
- 34:40BRIAN DERRICK: What?
- 34:42GLENNIS MEAGHER: You don't know this?
- 34:42GLENNIS MEAGHER: He had
- 34:43BRIAN DERRICK: his dick cut off?
- 34:44GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yes, and it's like in, it's like saved somewhere and peop- like-
- 34:50BRIAN DERRICK: What?
- 34:50GLENNIS MEAGHER: Wait, I'm not… This is real.
- 34:52GLENNIS MEAGHER: I, this is real, but I don't know.
- 34:55GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's ra- this is rage bait, but it's getting the people talking
- 35:02BRIAN DERRICK: Who got shot and drowned in a river?
- 35:08GLENNIS MEAGHER: I'll look it up.
- 35:08GLENNIS MEAGHER: Let me see.
- 35:09GLENNIS MEAGHER: I actually have a book about Rasputin in my apartment
- 35:13BRIAN DERRICK: Grigori Rasputin, the infamous Russian mystic and advisor to the Romanov royal family, is legendary for the dramatic story surrounding his assassination.
- 35:20BRIAN DERRICK: According to historic lore, a group of Russian nobles attempted to kill him by first poisoning him with cyanide.
- 35:25BRIAN DERRICK: When the poison failed, they shot him multiple times.
- 35:28BRIAN DERRICK: Believing him to be alive or attempting to hide the crime, they wrapped his body and dumped him into the frozen Malaya Nevka River.
- 35:34BRIAN DERRICK: While forensic evidence suggests the gunshots were the true cause of death, popular myth has long held that he survived the bullets and officially died of drowning.
- 35:41BRIAN DERRICK: That is what I was talking about.
- 35:43GLENNIS MEAGHER: Okay, one more.
- 35:46GLENNIS MEAGHER: Justice Department turns to partisans and conspiracists to fill depleted ranks.
- 35:52BRIAN DERRICK: Double click, because every hire is somebody that we have to fire in 2029 when we retake the White House.
- 36:00BRIAN DERRICK: And so the more that Trump hires his cronies into every crack and crevice of the federal government, the more effort it's gonna take to drum them all out.
- 36:09BRIAN DERRICK: But as I've said for a long time, anyone hired for any role in any position in any agency under the second Trump administration should be fired by executive order the first day that the next president takes office.
- 36:23GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah, I'm with you.
- 36:24GLENNIS MEAGHER: And as a reminder, you are paying for their salary.
- 36:26GLENNIS MEAGHER: You are paying for these conspiratorial people to go fill the Justice Department Okay, Brian, I have a good vibe coming out of Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear.
- 36:41BRIAN DERRICK: Hit us with it.
- 36:42GLENNIS MEAGHER: He swiped out $250 million in medical debt in a new executive order that will affect 130,000 residents of Kentucky, and you don't have to apply for it.
- 36:55GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's like if you kind of hit these thresholds.
- 36:57GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's, it's actually quite sad.
- 37:00GLENNIS MEAGHER: If you owe at least 5% of your annual income in medical bills or earn below 400% of the federal poverty line, your debt is cleared.
- 37:12GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's, it's crazy to even think that we are burdening these people with medical debt, with bills just to stay alive, but I'm glad that Andy Beshear said, "We're gonna get rid of 250 million of that."
- 37:28BRIAN DERRICK: 100%.

- 38:11BRIAN DERRICK: Crazy.
- 38:12GLENNIS MEAGHER: What kind of doctor are you?

- 38:20GLENNIS MEAGHER: Alleg- Bananas … alleged, I don't-- Bananas.
- 38:22GLENNIS MEAGHER: So that's a bad vibe, but good vibe- … that, that Kansas is like maybe like, "Actually, you suck.
- 38:28GLENNIS MEAGHER: You're a bad guy. You're gonna send me to jail for not paying my, you know, premium on a flu shot?"
- 38:42BRIAN DERRICK: And with that happy thought, go get vaccinated, everyone.
- 38:46BRIAN DERRICK: Get your flu shot.
- 38:46BRIAN DERRICK: Honestly- It's flu season.
- 38:48GLENNIS MEAGHER: Mm-hmm.
