- 0:00Speaker 1: This podcast is recorded on gadigal Land always was, always
- 0:03Speaker 1: will be Aboriginal Land.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Hey cheeks, I'm sal and I'm out And this is
- 0:14Speaker 2: two Broat Chicks, the show that shares life lessons and
- 0:16Speaker 2: tips to make you rich in life. And today we
- 0:20Speaker 2: are talking expensive things that aren't worth the money, expensive
- 0:25Speaker 2: shit that's not worth the money.
- 0:27Speaker 3: Expensive yah.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Yeah, including a bunch of our personal picks and also
- 0:35Speaker 2: a bunch of picks submitted by you chicks, which is
- 0:39Speaker 2: very interesting. There were definitely lots of trends, but a
- 0:42Speaker 2: couple of outliers too, which.
- 0:45Speaker 3: We always love.
- 0:46Speaker 2: But before we get into it, we love to start
- 0:49Speaker 2: with a trending topic or product wreck of the week.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Mine is in regards to our Europe prep, so we
- 0:55Speaker 2: feel listened to our episode the other week. Alex and
- 0:57Speaker 2: I are going to Europe for the very first time, which,
- 1:01Speaker 2: of course, men's doing so much research on all of
- 1:04Speaker 2: the specific things that you need, so we're.
- 1:06Speaker 3: Going to do content on it too. Yeah. Oh my god,
- 1:09Speaker 3: you get ready because there's going to be a lot.
- 1:13Speaker 2: But my product wreck of the week is a phone
- 1:16Speaker 2: case with a cross body phone.
- 1:19Speaker 3: Strap, whichever one you like.
- 1:22Speaker 2: There's lots of different options out there, but because in
- 1:25Speaker 2: really touristy areas, you know, such as Paris or Rome,
- 1:29Speaker 2: et cetera.
- 1:29Speaker 3: We have snatching. Yeah, we've heard that London as well.
- 1:33Speaker 3: I've heard a lot everyway Italy agrees Paris.
- 1:36Speaker 2: And then the phone snatching in particular is very common
- 1:41Speaker 2: for tourists, especially because you're always walking around with your phone.
- 1:44Speaker 3: I've seen heaps and videos of it too my TikTok recently,
- 1:48Speaker 3: with like people putting a piece of paper down and
- 1:50Speaker 3: then picking the phone up with it, and straight up
- 1:54Speaker 3: I would fall for every single one of them.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Me too, And I know myself enough to know that
- 1:59Speaker 2: that is true. Or like, I've seen the videos of
- 2:01Speaker 2: people in London and this isn't to scare anyone. It's
- 2:04Speaker 2: the worst case scenario. So it's always good to be prepared,
- 2:07Speaker 2: but that you know, you'll be looking at your phone
- 2:09Speaker 2: waiting for a bus or something and somebody will ride past.
- 2:11Speaker 3: On a bike and just snatch it out of your hand.
- 2:13Speaker 2: So I did buy a crossbody phone straff and case.
- 2:18Speaker 2: You can get whatever ones you like. You know, how
- 2:20Speaker 2: much you spend on it exists on a spectrum depending
- 2:23Speaker 2: on what you got.
- 2:24Speaker 3: The only thing I would say on top of that though,
- 2:27Speaker 3: is especially with like your cross body bags and stuff,
- 2:30Speaker 3: you want to make sure that they're like slash proof
- 2:33Speaker 3: and stuff. So like there's heaps of travel safe brands
- 2:36Speaker 3: that you can look at for your cross body bags
- 2:38Speaker 3: that have like a slash proof material so people can't
- 2:41Speaker 3: like cut the bag yeah and run with it. And
- 2:44Speaker 3: they also have I think it's like RDIF blocking, so
- 2:47Speaker 3: people can't like skim your cards through it. And they
- 2:51Speaker 3: also have like this little like lock zipper that you
- 2:54Speaker 3: like lock the zip to the other end of the thing.
- 2:56Speaker 3: And it means that people can't like open your bag
- 2:58Speaker 3: when you're not paying attention. Yeah, these be crazy. Yeah,
- 3:04Speaker 3: what's yours? Okay, So my product wreck or what's trending
- 3:09Speaker 3: is actually a report ooh, sexy money report. So a
- 3:14Speaker 3: new report on the cost of living has come out
- 3:18Speaker 3: because we saw I saw a comment on our TikTok
- 3:22Speaker 3: the other day and it was about how it was
- 3:24Speaker 3: a snippet where we were talking about how nearly half
- 3:26Speaker 3: of Australians have less than a thousand dollars in their
- 3:28Speaker 3: savings and there was a comment on there saying like
- 3:31Speaker 3: how do people not have any money in savings, like
- 3:34Speaker 3: maybe just stop going out and drinking and you'll be
- 3:37Speaker 3: able to save. And I was like, but anyway, I
- 3:40Speaker 3: think this was a really good kind of reflection of
- 3:44Speaker 3: why because in that snippet we did say that the
- 3:47Speaker 3: cost of living crisis is a really main reason as
- 3:50Speaker 3: to why people can barely afford to save money, let
- 3:54Speaker 3: alone like pay their rent and everything like that. And
- 3:58Speaker 3: it's because rent increases have outpaced wage growth by five
- 4:03Speaker 3: hundred percent in the first three months of twenty twenty four.
- 4:08Speaker 3: What yeah, So data from Domain found that Capital City
- 4:12Speaker 3: house rents grew by five percent between January and March,
- 4:17Speaker 3: whereas wages grew by less than one percent, sitting at
- 4:20Speaker 3: zero point eight percent during the same period. So when again,
- 4:24Speaker 3: we're not sharing this information to stress anyone out, because
- 4:27Speaker 3: I think you do hear those numbers and you're like,
- 4:30Speaker 3: what the fuck? Yeah, what's what the point you do?
- 4:32Speaker 3: And even when I was pulling in this report, I
- 4:34Speaker 3: was like to say, I was like, what the fuck
- 4:36Speaker 3: is going on? I was like, when is something going
- 4:38Speaker 3: to be done about this? But I think it's a
- 4:41Speaker 3: good reminder for this episode as well to have a
- 4:44Speaker 3: conversation have I think about what's the expensive shit that
- 4:47Speaker 3: we're buying that we don't really need, Like where can
- 4:50Speaker 3: we pull back? Yeah, because I think we're all feeling
- 4:54Speaker 3: like the crunch of this, Like my rent went up
- 4:56Speaker 3: by one hundred dollars a week this year and that
- 4:59Speaker 3: hurt me my feelings. Yeah, and yeah, just a good
- 5:02Speaker 3: thing to maybe have a look at the expenses coming
- 5:05Speaker 3: in and out of our bank account and what really
- 5:07Speaker 3: brings us joy. Like, I think it's really important to
- 5:10Speaker 3: still have things in our life and spend the money
- 5:13Speaker 3: that we work really hard on, but things that are
- 5:15Speaker 3: fun and things that we enjoy, Like it's life is
- 5:18Speaker 3: not just about you know, the expenses that's like your
- 5:21Speaker 3: groceries and your electricity. Otherwise it's like where's the fun?
- 5:24Speaker 3: You know?
- 5:25Speaker 2: Yeah, but it's about that balance and yeah, where you
- 5:29Speaker 2: can cut back on some of those things and perhaps
- 5:32Speaker 2: prioritize the things.
- 5:33Speaker 3: That you do really love. When I was like doing
- 5:35Speaker 3: the research for this episode, I kept seeing the quote
- 5:38Speaker 3: of material rich and money poor. Yeah, And I feel like,
- 5:43Speaker 3: especially with how much of it's been normalized to spend
- 5:48Speaker 3: money on really expensive stuff now, I think a lot
- 5:52Speaker 3: of people listening could probably relate to being material rich
- 5:55Speaker 3: and money poor. And what that means is you have
- 5:57Speaker 3: a lot of items that are very expensive, yeap that
- 6:01Speaker 3: you could look around your apartment and see quite a
- 6:04Speaker 3: lot of value and money's worth around, or even look
- 6:07Speaker 3: at your makeup routine and see a couple hundred dollars
- 6:10Speaker 3: in there, But when you look at your savings, that
- 6:14Speaker 3: doesn't that isn't quite reflected there. And again that's not
- 6:17Speaker 3: saying like, look at all your bad investments you've made
- 6:20Speaker 3: at all, because we've all been there. But it's more
- 6:22Speaker 3: to be like, okay, maybe reevaluate, maybe take some learnings
- 6:26Speaker 3: from that, being like, Okay, did I need to spend
- 6:28Speaker 3: you know, one hundred dollars on that thing? No, Okay,
- 6:31Speaker 3: maybe that's one hundred dollars I'll put towards savings next
- 6:33Speaker 3: time and I'll buy a more affordable version of that.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Like it's like doing a bit of an evaluation. Yeah,
- 6:40Speaker 3: that's real reveal performance review of your finance. Yeah, and
- 6:43Speaker 3: you're spending because we love shopping and getting a good
- 6:46Speaker 3: bargain as much as the next person. But it really
- 6:49Speaker 3: has made me think about some of the things that
- 6:51Speaker 3: I own and whether I would repurchase them again. Yeah,
- 6:53Speaker 3: it's like, would you.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Rather see that money reflected in that handbag or in
- 6:59Speaker 2: your back we're savings account exactly.
- 7:01Speaker 3: And it made me come to the conclusion of you
- 7:04Speaker 3: will never regret a good purchase, Like there have been
- 7:07Speaker 3: things that I've spent a lot of money on but
- 7:10Speaker 3: I needed that or I love it and I do
- 7:12Speaker 3: not regret it, Whereas like, there are things that I
- 7:14Speaker 3: look at and it makes it feel sick, which I
- 7:17Speaker 3: will talk about, But I'm like, you will never ever
- 7:20Speaker 3: ever feel guilty or have that voice in your head
- 7:23Speaker 3: saying should I be doing this when it's a good purchase?
- 7:27Speaker 3: You know deep down and if you have that buyer's
- 7:30Speaker 3: remorse and that buyer is guilt before buying something, you
- 7:34Speaker 3: know it's not a good purchase. I agree.
- 7:37Speaker 2: How good is the feeling when you listen to your
- 7:40Speaker 2: gut and you didn't buy something, and then a week
- 7:42Speaker 2: later you're like, oh, I'm so glad.
- 7:44Speaker 3: I didn't buy it. Yeah.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Yeah, And I think a lot of the time, you know,
- 7:47Speaker 2: similar to the things that we've said in the past,
- 7:49Speaker 2: but a lot of the time we buy like brand
- 7:51Speaker 2: name things or we invest in really expensive things because
- 7:55Speaker 2: we feel like we need to almost role play that
- 7:59Speaker 2: where successful and doing well. And I think it's really
- 8:03Speaker 2: hard because you see people on TikTok and Instagram wearing
- 8:06Speaker 2: brand names and doing halls of you know what they've
- 8:09Speaker 2: been shopping, and you're like, well I need that and
- 8:12Speaker 2: I need to wear like the Gucci belts so people
- 8:14Speaker 2: can physically see, Okay, she's.
- 8:17Speaker 3: Doing well, but can we stop doing that? Well, that's
- 8:21Speaker 3: a marketing tactic. The marketing tactic of brands is to
- 8:25Speaker 3: sell a lifestyle. Yeah. That's why you'll see so many,
- 8:29Speaker 3: especially fashion brand the content has changed and that's why
- 8:33Speaker 3: it's like like I saw a post from a fashion
- 8:35Speaker 3: brand that was about a girl getting proposed to, but
- 8:38Speaker 3: it's about the dress that she's wearing, right, So it's
- 8:42Speaker 3: like they're selling like, oh look, this dress is perfect
- 8:45Speaker 3: to get proposed yeah, which, you know whatever, brands can
- 8:49Speaker 3: do what they want, but it's good having that in
- 8:51Speaker 3: your mentality of being like you're getting sold a lifestyle, yeah,
- 8:55Speaker 3: rather and that's why it's easy to fall into because
- 8:57Speaker 3: it's like, well, I want to get proposed to, like
- 9:01Speaker 3: you know, and it's it's how those things get in
- 9:03Speaker 3: your brain and it's so easy to like I've fallen
- 9:06Speaker 3: for it so many times. Oh totally. But that's why
- 9:08Speaker 3: continue to do So, that's why we see like that
- 9:11Speaker 3: girl trend, the clean girl trend, the tomato girl trend,
- 9:14Speaker 3: because we're getting sold lifestyles. Yeah, it's like the tomato
- 9:17Speaker 3: girl trend that had popped off about last year because
- 9:19Speaker 3: it was like she's wearing fucking linen and she's in Europe. Yeah, Like,
- 9:22Speaker 3: if you want a tomato, you want to buy linen.
- 9:25Speaker 3: Buy linen because you need it because you're going on
- 9:27Speaker 3: a holiday. Don't buy it because you're a tomato. Yeah,
- 9:29Speaker 3: okay exactly.
- 9:30Speaker 2: But like the validation that you get from those sorts
- 9:34Speaker 2: of things is so fleeting, whereas the validation that you
- 9:37Speaker 2: feel from investing your money in things that actually.
- 9:40Speaker 3: Align with your values where you want to be in life,
- 9:44Speaker 3: or something you actually need, something you actually anything wrong
- 9:47Speaker 3: with buying stuff that you need. Like if you're going
- 9:49Speaker 3: away and you need, you know, a nice outfit because
- 9:52Speaker 3: you're going to a really nice dinner and you're really
- 9:55Speaker 3: excited for that. I think that's so fine, but it's
- 9:57Speaker 3: something that you know you're going to wear again and
- 10:00Speaker 3: again after that, like and it checks. Like the boxes
- 10:04Speaker 3: before your purchase. Yeah, of being like, is it on sale?
- 10:07Speaker 3: Is the cost per we're gonna be low? Okay, so
- 10:10Speaker 3: shall we get into it. I also do want to
- 10:17Speaker 3: have a little disclaimer that just because these didn't work
- 10:21Speaker 3: for us, or didn't work for one of the chicks
- 10:24Speaker 3: that sent it in, doesn't mean it's a bad product,
- 10:26Speaker 3: doesn't mean it's you know, you shouldn't buy it or whatever.
- 10:29Speaker 3: You are so welcome to make your own decisions with
- 10:32Speaker 3: your money. This is just what didn't work for us,
- 10:34Speaker 3: But if it works for someone else, and that's so
- 10:36Speaker 3: great because I'm glad people got their money as well. Yeah, okay,
- 10:41Speaker 3: my first expensive shit not worth the cash Shoka is
- 10:46Speaker 3: that you chicks know that my biggest regret is buying
- 10:48Speaker 3: a designer handbag. Every time I see it, I'm like you, yeah,
- 10:52Speaker 3: Like I still have it and use it because I
- 10:56Speaker 3: need to. Yeah, otherwise I'll be like you fucking eat it.
- 10:59Speaker 3: But I regret spending that amount on one piece. And
- 11:04Speaker 3: again that's not to say no one should buy it,
- 11:07Speaker 3: but for me spending that amount of money towards something
- 11:12Speaker 3: I feel like I could have got better value because
- 11:14Speaker 3: I came one hundred percent get like a leather bag,
- 11:17Speaker 3: a leather handbag for three hundred dollars, not three thousand. Yeah,
- 11:20Speaker 3: Like I think about what that money could have gone towards,
- 11:23Speaker 3: or just could have put in savings or invested it,
- 11:25Speaker 3: and I'm like, cool, it's a bag. Yeah, and I
- 11:29Speaker 3: don't and I don't use it. That's the thing is
- 11:31Speaker 3: like me, I don't use it because I'm scared of
- 11:35Speaker 3: someone stealing it or getting damaged and then I'm not
- 11:37Speaker 3: getting any cost per wear out of it. Yeah. And
- 11:40Speaker 3: it was a lifestyle thing. Yeah, Like I was like, oh,
- 11:43Speaker 3: it's a nice bag, and then I was seeing it
- 11:44Speaker 3: all over TikTok and all over Pinterest and the lifestyles
- 11:47Speaker 3: of like wear this bag feats out like oh that's
- 11:50Speaker 3: the nice I need it, I want it, I love it. Yeah,
- 11:52Speaker 3: and I can't even fit all my shit in it.
- 11:54Speaker 3: It's so stupid. Yeah, it's like the utility is not it. Yeah,
- 11:57Speaker 3: Like I'll use it, but I definitely regret buying it.
- 12:02Speaker 3: But I'm also not the only one that has this
- 12:05Speaker 3: opinion because designer stuff and name brand products, in my
- 12:10Speaker 3: opinion and a lot of the Chicks submissions, is just
- 12:13Speaker 3: not worth the money. And so when I was doing
- 12:17Speaker 3: the research, one creator called Christine on TikTok. I'll link
- 12:21Speaker 3: it in the show notes. Did a whole series of
- 12:23Speaker 3: purchases she regrets, and I'm going to say, like eighty
- 12:28Speaker 3: percent of them were designer products. Wow. So I don't
- 12:33Speaker 3: know if I missed any of them, but I think
- 12:35Speaker 3: I got all of them, and four out of five
- 12:38Speaker 3: were a designer product. Oh my god. So number one
- 12:43Speaker 3: was the Gucci slides. These were one four hundred and
- 12:47Speaker 3: fifty dollars and she said they were super uncomfortable, had
- 12:50Speaker 3: blisters and she had to get them resold so they
- 12:53Speaker 3: weren't slippery. Oh no. The next were the Frankie shot
- 12:57Speaker 3: Bee trousers. So these are three hundred and ninety eight
- 13:00Speaker 3: dollars and their polyester pants with what she said like
- 13:05Speaker 3: have a very fast fashioned feel to them. Right. The
- 13:09Speaker 3: next was a wiresel smoking moto jacket, and I couldn't
- 13:13Speaker 3: find the exact style, but she did say she bought
- 13:15Speaker 3: it secondhand. But I looked up a wire cl leather
- 13:18Speaker 3: jacket and it retails for over seven thousand dollars. And
- 13:24Speaker 3: the biggest thing with this is she said the whole
- 13:26Speaker 3: time that she was talking with the seller. She had
- 13:29Speaker 3: the voice in her head being like, I don't know
- 13:32Speaker 3: if I should be buying this, Like her body was
- 13:35Speaker 3: like propulsed by it, and she felt like she shouldn't
- 13:39Speaker 3: be doing it. So it's like listening to that voice.
- 13:42Speaker 3: And then the fourth out of fifth was the Chloe's
- 13:46Speaker 3: Susanna Boots YEP which retail for one thy eight hundred
- 13:51Speaker 3: and last but not least, was the Dice in air
- 13:54Speaker 3: rap Yeah whell so on that. This was the second
- 14:02Speaker 3: most popular submission that we received to our question box
- 14:07Speaker 3: on Instagram, and I actually did all the numbers on it,
- 14:12Speaker 3: and thirteen percent of responses to expensive shit that wasn't
- 14:16Speaker 3: worth the money was the Dyson Wow. Yeah. So I
- 14:21Speaker 3: also want to preface this by saying that I've had
- 14:23Speaker 3: my Dison air at for that five years and I
- 14:25Speaker 3: I love it. I love it, but it works really
- 14:29Speaker 3: well with my hair and I actually use it, Whereas
- 14:34Speaker 3: I think the main downfall that I've seen and the
- 14:36Speaker 3: main kind of negative review is it not working on
- 14:41Speaker 3: people's hair, like their hair drops out of it quite
- 14:44Speaker 3: quickly or they just don't have the time to use it.
- 14:48Speaker 3: And it's definitely a product that you have to kind
- 14:50Speaker 3: of do it. Probably you've got to have wet hair.
- 14:52Speaker 3: You've got to, you know, maybe put some product in
- 14:55Speaker 3: it to make a hold of bit better. And you've
- 14:56Speaker 3: got to take the time to fully blow dry your hair.
- 14:59Speaker 3: But yeah, if you're not someone who wants to spend
- 15:01Speaker 3: time doing your hair, then it's probably not the best investment.
- 15:05Speaker 3: I also bought my dice in the first edition secondhand
- 15:10Speaker 3: on Facebook marketplace, so I paid like four hundred dollars
- 15:12Speaker 3: for it, whereas now it retails for eight hundred and
- 15:15Speaker 3: forty nine dollars. And I looked up the price from
- 15:19Speaker 3: when it first launch and it was six hundred and
- 15:22Speaker 3: ninety nine dollars. Yeah, but it had has had some
- 15:25Speaker 3: like tweaks to it.
- 15:27Speaker 2: Does I have like different attachments and the textiles, Like
- 15:30Speaker 2: you don't have to switch the barrels anymore.
- 15:32Speaker 3: It's got like a long barrel and a short barrel.
- 15:35Speaker 3: But I still have the first edition. I haven't bought
- 15:37Speaker 3: a new one and it still does the job. Yeah,
- 15:39Speaker 3: But yeah, I think the thing with the dice in
- 15:42Speaker 3: air rap is you can go in store, you can
- 15:45Speaker 3: book in and they'll give you a blow dry and
- 15:48Speaker 3: you can test the dice in air rap and see
- 15:51Speaker 3: if it holds on your hair or if you know
- 15:52Speaker 3: someone that has it, borrow theirs for maybe a weekend,
- 15:56Speaker 3: and see if you like it, see if you'll actually
- 15:59Speaker 3: use it, because nearly nine hundred dollars eight hundred and
- 16:02Speaker 3: forty nine that is a lot of money on something
- 16:05Speaker 3: that you won't won't use. Yeah, and go look on
- 16:08Speaker 3: faceook marketplace, yeah, honestly, or wait till Black Friday or
- 16:13Speaker 3: a sale event. Yeah.
- 16:14Speaker 2: Yeah, because I think so many people were influenced by
- 16:18Speaker 2: the trend of the dice in air rap, you know,
- 16:20Speaker 2: over the last it because especially stars of Matilda Jeff
- 16:25Speaker 2: and her amazing bouncy blow dry.
- 16:28Speaker 3: Yeah, she looks gorgeous, but her hair.
- 16:30Speaker 2: Was like made for the diceon airp for a nineties
- 16:34Speaker 2: blow dry, like she is, Like if you look up
- 16:38Speaker 2: dice and air app in the dictionary, there's probably a
- 16:40Speaker 2: picture of her.
- 16:41Speaker 3: Oh definitely.
- 16:42Speaker 2: So it's not gonna work for everyone. So I think
- 16:44Speaker 2: that's such a good tip to try it first.
- 16:46Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely try it first. But because you love it,
- 16:49Speaker 3: I love mine. But there's also other products that are
- 16:53Speaker 3: a lot more affordable that you can get the same look.
- 16:56Speaker 3: Like I've heard lots of really good things about the
- 17:00Speaker 3: Diboost blow dry brush. I also well, we also tested
- 17:03Speaker 3: the Mermaid hair air curl and their blow dry brush,
- 17:06Speaker 3: and I really liked that. I thought the look was
- 17:09Speaker 3: honestly bang on. Yeah, so what to buy instead is
- 17:15Speaker 3: good quality affordable basics or like better yet shop secondhand.
- 17:21Speaker 3: So if you want good basics, I am obsessed with Uniclo.
- 17:26Speaker 3: I cannot stop recommending them for basics because the price
- 17:30Speaker 3: to the like fabric and quality of what you get
- 17:34Speaker 3: is just so so good in my opinion. Like the
- 17:39Speaker 3: styles are very universal, meaning they're not super trend focused.
- 17:43Speaker 3: It's all basics, so it's so good. You can also
- 17:46Speaker 3: get alterations in uniclose stores, which is for short girlies
- 17:51Speaker 3: amazing because you can get like the jeans taken up
- 17:54Speaker 3: or the pants taken up, and I just love them.
- 17:56Speaker 3: But Uniclo have a sustainability rating of out of five,
- 18:01Speaker 3: and I think it's really hard to find affordable basics
- 18:05Speaker 3: that are made with a good material that are you know,
- 18:09Speaker 3: above a three, a three and above because a lot
- 18:12Speaker 3: of you know, those brands that sit more affordable are
- 18:15Speaker 3: going to sit at a one to or two because
- 18:17Speaker 3: they're affordable when we look at affordable clothing, a lot
- 18:20Speaker 3: of the time it means it's not the kindest to
- 18:22Speaker 3: the planet, and that's why it's more affordable. Yeah, and
- 18:24Speaker 3: then when we look at sustainable, because there's more sustainable practices,
- 18:28Speaker 3: it will increase the price. So it's very difficult to
- 18:31Speaker 3: find the middle ground. And I feel like uniclothes probably
- 18:34Speaker 3: the closest thing to that middle ground. But yeah, that's
- 18:37Speaker 3: where I would shop if you want to invest in
- 18:39Speaker 3: pieces that are good quality and affordable. And then Bettiette
- 18:45Speaker 3: shop secondhand.
- 18:46Speaker 2: Okay, my first expensive shiet that isn't worth the money
- 18:51Speaker 2: for me personally is hair extensions.
- 18:55Speaker 3: So no, for years, for literal years, I wore hair extensions.
- 19:00Speaker 2: What yeah, from maybe about when I was in year ten,
- 19:04Speaker 2: which was about two thousand and eight to twenty fifteen,
- 19:08Speaker 2: I wore hair extensions.
- 19:09Speaker 3: What's the fuck? But you've always had long hair. But
- 19:12Speaker 3: that's the thing.
- 19:13Speaker 2: When I was like in year ten, I didn't really
- 19:17Speaker 2: like my hair was about would have been shorter than yours.
- 19:20Speaker 2: I also had like, you know, like a razor cut
- 19:23Speaker 2: mullet and then it's like thin on the ends, Like
- 19:25Speaker 2: that was the.
- 19:25Speaker 3: Look at the time. But then you.
- 19:29Speaker 2: The further extension of that look PUN intended was then
- 19:32Speaker 2: to have like long extensions in it. And then as
- 19:34Speaker 2: like I got older, you know, my hair changed. I
- 19:37Speaker 2: always wanted a little bit more length and more thickness,
- 19:40Speaker 2: so I always wore extensions. I used to wear sew
- 19:44Speaker 2: in extensions, oh for.
- 19:45Speaker 3: A long time. They're really expensive.
- 19:48Speaker 2: Tape in extensions I've had. And then also clip ins
- 19:52Speaker 2: as well, yeah, which I do think if you're going
- 19:55Speaker 2: to pick anything, if you've never had extensions before, clip
- 19:58Speaker 2: ins is like a good place to start.
- 20:00Speaker 3: And also because I.
- 20:01Speaker 2: Just hate the feeling of having fucking extensions in your.
- 20:04Speaker 3: Head and you want to like scratch your scalp and
- 20:06Speaker 3: you can't.
- 20:08Speaker 2: Sorry, I just add a flash back, but when I
- 20:13Speaker 2: first started getting hair extensions, like the prices have changed
- 20:16Speaker 2: a lot since then, because we're talking like fifteen years.
- 20:19Speaker 2: But I probably haven't worn hair extensions since like maybe
- 20:23Speaker 2: twenty eighteen, and I did have tape in hair extensions
- 20:27Speaker 2: at that time, but I had a look and according
- 20:31Speaker 2: to the Australian Beauty School in Salon, hair extensions can
- 20:35Speaker 2: cost between five hundred and eight hundred dollars per installation.
- 20:40Speaker 2: How much you'll pay will of course depend on the
- 20:43Speaker 2: quality of the hair, the quality of the salon, if
- 20:45Speaker 2: you're working with a hair extension specialist, which I do
- 20:48Speaker 2: think is really important in terms of the application, and
- 20:52Speaker 2: also removal of the extensions to protect your hair.
- 20:55Speaker 3: But clip ins are.
- 20:56Speaker 2: Of course, like I said, a more affordable option. I
- 21:00Speaker 2: used to use hair extensions from Zala Hair.
- 21:03Speaker 3: I remember them throw a back yeah, which around.
- 21:07Speaker 2: Yeah they are, yeah, and they're still really popular, I believe,
- 21:11Speaker 2: but those started at ninety nine dollars, but that was for.
- 21:16Speaker 3: Like like one string, yeah, so like quite.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Short length of hair, whereas I used to get like
- 21:20Speaker 2: the twenty two inch or whatever and then get them
- 21:23Speaker 2: cut into And the thing for me is what I
- 21:26Speaker 2: will say is that like a lot of people want
- 21:28Speaker 2: to play with the length of their hair their hair
- 21:31Speaker 2: not like might not grow as quickly. I was talking
- 21:35Speaker 2: to a hairdresser the other day and she was like, yeah, well,
- 21:37Speaker 2: you know, we see a lot of people who experience
- 21:40Speaker 2: hair loss, so they want hair extensions, you know. So
- 21:44Speaker 2: there's lots of different reasons why people would want hair extensions.
- 21:47Speaker 3: And I'm not saying.
- 21:48Speaker 2: That it is, you know, completely worthless investment, but for
- 21:52Speaker 2: me personally, what my goal with my hair extensions was
- 21:56Speaker 2: to have longer and thicker hair because I wasn't going
- 21:59Speaker 2: too you know, a really qualified hair extension specialist. The
- 22:07Speaker 2: amount of damage that they did to my hair every
- 22:11Speaker 2: single time, I would get so much breakage when I
- 22:15Speaker 2: was removing it that it just if I had left
- 22:19Speaker 2: it and instead focused on investing in good quality shampoo
- 22:23Speaker 2: and conditioner, hair masks, getting regular trims, things like that,
- 22:29Speaker 2: my hair would have grown and been thicker so much
- 22:32Speaker 2: quicker than when I was wearing hair extensions. And once
- 22:35Speaker 2: I did stop wearing hair extensions and did start focusing
- 22:39Speaker 2: on those things, that's exactly why I And I'm just like, yeah, God,
- 22:43Speaker 2: damn it, Like I just wish I knew that in
- 22:45Speaker 2: hindsight for me personally, because I know that in my
- 22:50Speaker 2: teens and early twenties, I spent a lot of money
- 22:53Speaker 2: on hair extensions.
- 22:54Speaker 3: Yeah, what to buy instead?
- 22:56Speaker 2: Invest in a good quality hair mask, heat protect and
- 23:01Speaker 2: good shampoo and conditioner. Visit a hairdresser who can give
- 23:07Speaker 2: you good advice on which products to use for your
- 23:09Speaker 2: particular hair type and your hair concerns and goals. You know,
- 23:14Speaker 2: like I go to the hairdressers twice a year. Yeah,
- 23:17Speaker 2: Like that's all it takes for me. And even deciding
- 23:20Speaker 2: to go from jet black hair, which is what I
- 23:23Speaker 2: had for the majority of the time when I had
- 23:24Speaker 2: hair extensions two or more lived in Ballyage. That means
- 23:29Speaker 2: that instead of having to get my hair done every
- 23:32Speaker 2: three months, I now get it done once or twice
- 23:35Speaker 2: a year. One of my personal favorites, which I've spoking
- 23:37Speaker 2: about many times on the show, loosely, braid your hair
- 23:41Speaker 2: before you go to sleep. I used to wear it
- 23:43Speaker 2: up in a top knot, and shit, it's not good
- 23:46Speaker 2: for your hair. Causes a lot of breakage and tension
- 23:48Speaker 2: on your hair. And sleep on a silk pillowcase.
- 23:51Speaker 3: Sure do well. Everyone always asks you if you have extensions.
- 23:54Speaker 2: They do, yeah, and they're always so shocked, and I'm like, yeah,
- 23:58Speaker 2: the special moment.
- 24:01Speaker 3: My next expensive shit not worth the cash. AirPods I
- 24:05Speaker 3: don't like. I don't like it well because ever since
- 24:10Speaker 3: I got like noise canceling overhead headphones, my life has changed.
- 24:16Speaker 3: I just I know some people love their AirPods, but
- 24:19Speaker 3: for me, they always fall out of my ears, like
- 24:22Speaker 3: they always like, you can't go for a run in them.
- 24:24Speaker 3: You can barely even go for a brisk wall because
- 24:27Speaker 3: I don't know. Maybe I've got really small ears. I've
- 24:29Speaker 3: had the wind blow an airport out.
- 24:31Speaker 2: Of my ear before me, the window, the toad from
- 24:36Speaker 2: the wind, and the willows.
- 24:39Speaker 3: Of my ears just they fall out. And here's the
- 24:42Speaker 3: thing for me, there's three pieces. There's three things I
- 24:46Speaker 3: can lose. You lose one AirPod, you're fucked. You lose
- 24:50Speaker 3: the case, you're fucked. There is too many things I
- 24:54Speaker 3: can lose in that arrangement that I just I can't
- 24:58Speaker 3: do it. Yeah, don't play They're not for me. And
- 25:01Speaker 3: I also just think the sound on them is just
- 25:04Speaker 3: it's not it's not there for me. In saying this,
- 25:07Speaker 3: I never got like the Pro ones. I had like
- 25:10Speaker 3: the first edition ones, but I've used your Pro ones
- 25:13Speaker 3: and I don't like them. I definitely like the pros
- 25:16Speaker 3: better than I was inside your ear. Yeah, but I also.
- 25:19Speaker 2: Have beats which I've had for like I think three
- 25:22Speaker 2: or four years now.
- 25:23Speaker 3: Yeah, and the sound quality is so much Well, that's
- 25:27Speaker 3: the thing, and that's what I was gonna say. Is
- 25:29Speaker 3: my wa to buy instead is a good pair of
- 25:32Speaker 3: noise canceling overhead headphones. Like they are just they've been
- 25:37Speaker 3: a game changer for me. The ones that I have
- 25:39Speaker 3: that I absolutely love that I think I've convinced that
- 25:42Speaker 3: like four friends to buy and they are an investment.
- 25:45Speaker 3: Is the both quiet comfort headphones. And my favorite thing
- 25:50Speaker 3: about these is one they do not fall out anywhere.
- 25:54Speaker 3: They stay on your head. They're great. They're also really
- 25:58Speaker 3: really comfy, like really really comfy. They don't hurt any
- 26:02Speaker 3: of my piercings in my ears, and the noise cancelation
- 26:06Speaker 3: of them is lit. It's great. And they can connect
- 26:10Speaker 3: to multiple devices at once. I don't know if airports
- 26:13Speaker 3: can do that now. I don't know mine. I don't
- 26:16Speaker 3: think mine could do it. Whereas I my headphones will
- 26:18Speaker 3: connect to my laptop and my phone at the same time.
- 26:21Speaker 3: When I'm working and I'm working on my laptop and
- 26:24Speaker 3: I'm listening to something with my laptop, I can pick
- 26:25Speaker 3: up my phone and my phone will go through the
- 26:28Speaker 3: headphones as well. Oh it just yeah, I think the
- 26:31Speaker 3: airports do that. Do they do that? Okay, I don't
- 26:33Speaker 3: know if I did that. I hate when it does that, though,
- 26:35Speaker 3: Oh really I like it.
- 26:36Speaker 2: That's only because when I'm like, when I'm like listening
- 26:38Speaker 2: to something like it's always because I'm like editing something
- 26:41Speaker 2: or whatever, listening back to the podcast, and then I
- 26:43Speaker 2: like pick up my phone and like open Instagram that
- 26:45Speaker 2: it like goes over to that.
- 26:47Speaker 3: Too real and I'm like no, stop, see I like that.
- 26:51Speaker 3: And then there's only one thing you can lose, and
- 26:54Speaker 3: they're a lot bigger, so it's not harder to lose them. Yeah,
- 26:57Speaker 3: they don't end up in the washing machine, you know
- 26:59Speaker 3: what I mean.
- 27:00Speaker 2: I think wait for a sale event, like these things
- 27:03Speaker 2: go on sale during Black Friday or like when it's
- 27:06Speaker 2: Christmas and you're.
- 27:07Speaker 3: Like what do I want?
- 27:08Speaker 2: Yeah, be like mom, Dad, party high. I feel like,
- 27:14Speaker 2: can you please all pull in for a JB Like
- 27:18Speaker 2: I love them.
- 27:19Speaker 3: Yeah, It's like it's a I don't know if it's
- 27:21Speaker 3: a bit of a boring purchase, but and I think
- 27:24Speaker 3: it's worth the spurge, especially when you're using them every day,
- 27:29Speaker 3: Like I use them every day when I'm going for
- 27:31Speaker 3: a walk or a run, or on transport or going
- 27:33Speaker 3: on an airplane. Not that that's every day, but like
- 27:36Speaker 3: whenever I'm going on an overseas trip, you need the
- 27:38Speaker 3: nolise canceling headphones. Yeah, that's how I justify them.
- 27:40Speaker 2: I'd be like, especially when we worked in an office job,
- 27:43Speaker 2: I was like, I'm wearing my headphones day, ten.
- 27:46Speaker 3: Hours a day, and that's not hyperbole. So Yeppos, I
- 27:50Speaker 3: love them.
- 27:51Speaker 2: My last expensive shit that's not worth the money is
- 27:56Speaker 2: bottomless brunch.
- 27:58Speaker 3: Oh, because you're so right. No, you're so right. Fuck you,
- 28:01Speaker 3: you're so controversial. No, but you're so right. This one
- 28:06Speaker 3: maybe has an asterix. Maybe, but for me, oh, I
- 28:10Speaker 3: know where we're going with it.
- 28:12Speaker 2: But for some people and in some situations, maybe a
- 28:15Speaker 2: bottomless brunch can give you bang for buck. But for
- 28:19Speaker 2: me personally, I never feel like I can eat and
- 28:22Speaker 2: drink enough in the allotted period of an hour and
- 28:25Speaker 2: a half, which it usually is to make.
- 28:28Speaker 3: Up the money. Yeah. Ever yeah, Also, I'm a vegetarian.
- 28:32Speaker 2: I don't know if anybody else with dietares feels this way.
- 28:36Speaker 2: But a lot of the time the bottomless brunch, the
- 28:38Speaker 2: appeal is, oh, you get to have options. I can
- 28:40Speaker 2: have this taco and this taco and this taco. Most
- 28:43Speaker 2: of the time I look and there's one option, and
- 28:45Speaker 2: most of the time it's fucking mushroom anyway, eggplant or
- 28:48Speaker 2: eggplant you have.
- 28:49Speaker 3: Two favorites, my two favorites.
- 28:51Speaker 2: But regardless, even if it was something I really enjoyed,
- 28:54Speaker 2: i'd be like, oh, well, I'm sort of just snacking
- 28:56Speaker 2: on the one thing. And usually I look at it
- 28:58Speaker 2: and I'm like, I probably would have been better off
- 29:01Speaker 2: buying one cocktail, yeah, having three tacos, and then probably
- 29:05Speaker 2: getting a vodka lime soda.
- 29:06Speaker 3: And that's what I would usually room in about them
- 29:08Speaker 3: now too, So like the rules will be like you've
- 29:11Speaker 3: got to finish the I mean, it's probably just the
- 29:13Speaker 3: responsible service of alcohol totally, but it's like you've got
- 29:17Speaker 3: to finish like that drink before you can order another drink.
- 29:20Speaker 3: And I find that with some places the service is
- 29:24Speaker 3: very slow, so that you can't get as many drinks
- 29:27Speaker 3: within the time. That's not to say everywhere, but I've
- 29:30Speaker 3: definitely noticed that at some It's like I'm there and
- 29:33Speaker 3: my drink is empty, but my drink's been empty for ages,
- 29:36Speaker 3: and I'm trying to get a drink and it takes
- 29:38Speaker 3: a while to get it out because and who knows
- 29:40Speaker 3: if that's on purpose or if I'm just banging for
- 29:42Speaker 3: a bed. You were cut off, and I'm like, oh,
- 29:48Speaker 3: come on, but yeah, I completely agree. And I feel
- 29:51Speaker 3: like bottomless brunches started at like sixty bucks and now
- 29:56Speaker 3: they're very much more towards the eighty to like nine
- 29:59Speaker 3: hundred of wheny I've seen some more. But here's the thing,
- 30:04Speaker 3: I get full really quickly. I don't feel like I
- 30:07Speaker 3: can eat as much to get the value sam of it.
- 30:11Speaker 3: Like I love picking at everything, but I I just
- 30:14Speaker 3: but I also feel like that's a bit of a waste.
- 30:15Speaker 3: And when I like when I eat heaps, I don't
- 30:18Speaker 3: really feel like drinking heats. Same when I drink heaps,
- 30:21Speaker 3: I don't really feel like eating heaps. I do eat
- 30:25Speaker 3: be responsible, but like you're like, I want like a
- 30:28Speaker 3: huge part. We're getting old, babe.
- 30:31Speaker 1: I know.
- 30:33Speaker 3: I kind of feel the same about set menus as well.
- 30:35Speaker 3: Like I know that these are typically I think that's
- 30:37Speaker 3: because of you being a vegetarian exactly, So I know.
- 30:41Speaker 2: That they're typically cheaper than ordering each of the meals
- 30:44Speaker 2: like ala catte. Yeah, but again, because for me, I
- 30:49Speaker 2: might call this is one thing I can have.
- 30:50Speaker 3: It sounds good. I'm also like a picky eater.
- 30:53Speaker 2: I know what I like, and I'm like, for me,
- 30:55Speaker 2: it's probably better off to just order what I want.
- 30:57Speaker 2: So that's why that one has an asterix. And also
- 30:59Speaker 2: because I also don't want to try a really good
- 31:03Speaker 2: bottomless brunch one time and be like, guess what, this
- 31:06Speaker 2: one actually was really good to my money, because I
- 31:08Speaker 2: do think that there are ones out definitely, Yeah, but
- 31:11Speaker 2: I just think across the board, so what to buy?
- 31:15Speaker 3: What to buy? Instead? I think go for a happy hour.
- 31:19Speaker 2: That I was gonna say, because usually there's a little
- 31:23Speaker 2: bit more variety in what you can get. And also
- 31:27Speaker 2: make sure that you're using apps like First Table, Eat
- 31:31Speaker 2: Club or Happiest hour to find happy hour deals and
- 31:35Speaker 2: cheap meal deals near you, because a lot of the
- 31:38Speaker 2: time they're not as there's not as many tea and
- 31:42Speaker 2: c's as there are for a bottomless brunch, and that's
- 31:45Speaker 2: what I typically prefer to do.
- 31:46Speaker 3: I mean, that's right, Yeah, that's a good point. There
- 31:48Speaker 3: aren't as many like teas and teas for a happy hour. Yeah.
- 31:51Speaker 2: It's like, yeah, sure the happy hour might go for
- 31:53Speaker 2: two hours, but that's.
- 31:55Speaker 3: The same amount of time as a bottomless brunch.
- 31:57Speaker 2: Yeah, But it's like if you're just going for drinks
- 31:59Speaker 2: or like, you can do that and then like order
- 32:00Speaker 2: whatever you want from the pub at the same time,
- 32:02Speaker 2: or like going to the pub on like the cheap
- 32:05Speaker 2: Tuesday when you can get the Pami or the Burger special,
- 32:08Speaker 2: like eyeing those out being like, yeah, I'm a burger girl,
- 32:10Speaker 2: so I'll go for the Friday Burgers.
- 32:12Speaker 3: I respect it, I like it, thank you. So let's
- 32:15Speaker 3: get into the chicks submissions. Now. This one's from Sarah
- 32:20Speaker 3: and this one made me fucking fizz my pants. So
- 32:23Speaker 3: expensive shit not worth the cash. Go traveling on your own,
- 32:26Speaker 3: go with your bestie or alone, and protect the memories.
- 32:30Speaker 4: Holidays can make or break oh my god, relationship and
- 32:34Speaker 4: especially what we've said before is don't book an overseas holiday,
- 32:41Speaker 4: like if you've been dating for like less than twelve
- 32:45Speaker 4: months in advance, like.
- 32:47Speaker 3: If you've been dating for six months, don't book a
- 32:49Speaker 3: holiday through inny year's time. I agree, because you don't
- 32:52Speaker 3: know it's gonna happen.
- 32:53Speaker 2: Also, if your relationship is on the rock, yes, don't book.
- 32:58Speaker 2: Don't do it holiday, especially if it's a one like
- 33:00Speaker 2: a month long trip to Europe. Next one Stanley and
- 33:04Speaker 2: Frank green Yettie is so much better from Vail.
- 33:08Speaker 3: I love the name BeO me too. See we haven't
- 33:11Speaker 3: tried Yetti's. Yeah, we've got Frank Green's. Yeah. And to
- 33:15Speaker 3: be honest, I've got the Stanley Cup and Stanley Cup's
- 33:18Speaker 3: cute and good, but you can't close it, yeah, And
- 33:22Speaker 3: I think that's a massive downfall of it because you
- 33:24Speaker 3: can't like chuck it in your bag. But I like
- 33:27Speaker 3: there's also the other thing on the Frank Green that
- 33:29Speaker 3: people don't like that you have to touch the lid thing.
- 33:31Speaker 3: But they've got that new button, yeah, that you can press.
- 33:34Speaker 3: I mean so many people already have their Frank Green
- 33:35Speaker 3: that now like you've got to repurchase another thing exactly.
- 33:38Speaker 3: I don't know. I think the best water bottle is
- 33:40Speaker 3: the one you use.
- 33:42Speaker 2: Yeah, So I like mine, but it is it's an
- 33:45Speaker 2: expensive purchase, it is.
- 33:46Speaker 3: And I got mine as a gift. So that's probably
- 33:48Speaker 3: why I got two. Is a gift. Yeah, I did,
- 33:50Speaker 3: Lucky girl. It does keep the water and icing cold
- 33:54Speaker 3: though I use mine so much, and like you do
- 33:57Speaker 3: end up drinking more water from having like an emotional
- 33:59Speaker 3: support water bottle. But I don't necessarily think you need
- 34:02Speaker 3: to spend like sixty bucks on a water bottle if
- 34:05Speaker 3: you want to go get one just from grandma or whatever. Yeah,
- 34:09Speaker 3: I agree, it'll serve the same purpose. Okay. Our next
- 34:13Speaker 3: one from the Chicks Everything health and well being is
- 34:17Speaker 3: dry brushing, tongue scraping, et cetera. Worth it. Oh, I
- 34:22Speaker 3: really want to get a tongue scraper, so I'll report
- 34:24Speaker 3: back on this, Yeah, because it would be so satisfying.
- 34:27Speaker 3: Oh that's the thing, and I soon am I talking
- 34:31Speaker 3: about this all the time. I hate brushing my tongue
- 34:34Speaker 3: because I'm fucking cat cowing over it sink me.
- 34:38Speaker 2: But I'm like, will the tongue scraper avoid that issue
- 34:41Speaker 2: or is it just gonna be?
- 34:42Speaker 3: I think it will. I think it will. Okay, we
- 34:45Speaker 3: can try it. Yeah. The dry brushing one I kind
- 34:49Speaker 3: of agree with. Like I would try dry brushing, but
- 34:54Speaker 3: it's a fun like wellness activity. I don't know if
- 34:57Speaker 3: I necessarily You tried it, didn't you? Yeah you liked it? Yeah?
- 35:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's good. But I think that's the thing.
- 35:04Speaker 2: It's just like depends on what you need as well.
- 35:07Speaker 3: Like I'm like, I'm so dry, Like I need all
- 35:09Speaker 3: the help I can get, you know what I mean? Like,
- 35:11Speaker 3: fuck me, I'm so dry, you know what I mean?
- 35:19Speaker 3: It's true okay, and then the last one, which I
- 35:24Speaker 3: think you had a fun little stat to this one.
- 35:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I did so the last expensive shit that isn't
- 35:32Speaker 2: worth the money from the chicks dresses as a wedding guest.
- 35:36Speaker 3: That's from a I completely agree.
- 35:42Speaker 2: Yep, And we've got we've got a stat to back,
- 35:44Speaker 2: we've got some stats by So, according to a twenty
- 35:49Speaker 2: twenty three Finder study, wedding guests spent on average one thousand,
- 35:56Speaker 2: nine hundred and ninety three dollars to attend their life
- 36:00Speaker 2: one's special day. Keep in mind, on average, this included travel, accommodation, gifts,
- 36:09Speaker 2: pre wedding activities such as hens nights, engagement parties, and
- 36:14Speaker 2: a new dress or suit, of which the average person
- 36:18Speaker 2: spends two hundred and fifty nine dollars on a new
- 36:22Speaker 2: suit or dress.
- 36:24Speaker 3: So is that one thousand dollars for one wedding? Yeah,
- 36:27Speaker 3: the one and ninety three. Oh, I'm so glad I
- 36:31Speaker 3: only have one friend that's engaged.
- 36:33Speaker 2: Yeah, But like it makes sense if you think about
- 36:35Speaker 2: the game. You're going to a destination wedding if you
- 36:37Speaker 2: have to stay at a hotel, But the average wedding
- 36:41Speaker 2: guest attendee spends two hundred and fifty nine dollars on
- 36:46Speaker 2: the dress or suit alone according to the studies.
- 36:49Speaker 3: So wow, and people and like it gets like years,
- 36:54Speaker 3: that's like wedding seasons. Yeah, and people have like ten
- 36:57Speaker 3: weddings in a year. Yeah, that's ten thousand when you're
- 37:00Speaker 3: going with that start.
- 37:01Speaker 2: When you get into your late twenties and early thirties especially,
- 37:05Speaker 2: it is wedding season and baby season galore.
- 37:09Speaker 3: Oh my god, it's so expensive. And like, I love weddings.
- 37:12Speaker 3: I love weddings. I love seeing people get married and
- 37:15Speaker 3: do their dance and like the bar. But you know
- 37:20Speaker 3: that's going back there, But you don't me. I'm treating
- 37:23Speaker 3: weddings like a bottomless brunch, Like I spend one thousand
- 37:27Speaker 3: dollars to get here. I'm getting a thousand dollars of
- 37:30Speaker 3: the fucking open bar to being like, this dress is
- 37:33Speaker 3: three hundred dollars. Open the wine, baby, get the rose
- 37:37Speaker 3: over here. You were me going to be best friends
- 37:39Speaker 3: bartending Just kidding, obs, not really, But obviously people spend
- 37:46Speaker 3: a lot of money per head for weddings as well.
- 37:49Speaker 3: But I think that does shine a really good light
- 37:51Speaker 3: on it that you don't need to buy a new
- 37:55Speaker 3: dress for every wedding.
- 37:57Speaker 2: If you think about all of these expenses, basically the
- 38:00Speaker 2: only one that you can buy once and reuse across
- 38:03Speaker 2: multiple weddings is the output.
- 38:05Speaker 3: Borrow your friends, Like if you're all going to the
- 38:08Speaker 3: same weddings, collectively buy your wardrobe so then you can
- 38:13Speaker 3: best Yeah, or.
- 38:15Speaker 2: Buy a neutral dress that you feel good in, that
- 38:20Speaker 2: is a color that you love that you can wear
- 38:23Speaker 2: to multiple events.
- 38:24Speaker 3: That's what I do. Did you see that the actress
- 38:27Speaker 3: that plays Eloise Bridgeton for their press tool bought one
- 38:30Speaker 3: suit and did all of her press in one suit?
- 38:35Speaker 3: The showcase? Like re wearing your outfits and like embracing
- 38:39Speaker 3: the Lizzie Maguire you were an outfit repeater. Yeah, so good. Yeah,
- 38:43Speaker 3: I love her. She's the best. Yeah, she's so cool.
- 38:46Speaker 3: I want to be friends with her. She'd be a
- 38:48Speaker 3: good laugh. Yeah. Okay, shall I get into advice.
- 38:50Speaker 2: With the chicks?
- 38:55Speaker 3: Okay, So long story short. I thought I could handle
- 38:59Speaker 3: credit cards, and I couldn't. I'm twenty one and have
- 39:03Speaker 3: two credit cards that amount about nine thousand dollars in debt.
- 39:08Speaker 3: I have so many things this year that I need
- 39:10Speaker 3: to pay for, and I need to pay five thousand
- 39:12Speaker 3: dollars off in the next three months before I do
- 39:15Speaker 3: any of it, as I feel if I don't pay
- 39:17Speaker 3: one card off, I will be a mess. My problem
- 39:21Speaker 3: is I am literally addicted to shopping. I know how
- 39:24Speaker 3: it sounds. It's crazy, but it's the instant gratification it
- 39:27Speaker 3: gives me. But I'm being honest. I do really want
- 39:31Speaker 3: to pay this off. For reference, I earn about one
- 39:34Speaker 3: point five to two thousand dollars a fortnight, sometimes more,
- 39:37Speaker 3: sometimes less. However, I am living out of home and
- 39:40Speaker 3: have bills and expenses. I have tried for a balanced
- 39:43Speaker 3: transfer and was denied with absolute fear reason. So please
- 39:48Speaker 3: tell me. If anyone has tips, whether it's to stop shopping,
- 39:51Speaker 3: to combine my debt, etc. Whatever it is, please give
- 39:55Speaker 3: me your advice. I want to pay it off, but
- 39:57Speaker 3: I physically keep justifying every purchase and I feel so
- 40:01Speaker 3: bad for it. I never want a credit card again
- 40:04Speaker 3: after this, But my bills come off of it and
- 40:06Speaker 3: I pay the card back bit by bit. But it's
- 40:09Speaker 3: like I keep this bad cycle on by funding the
- 40:12Speaker 3: card to pay for bills than any additional I spend.
- 40:15Speaker 3: Please help a girl out. I'm not looking for judgment
- 40:18Speaker 3: or for people to be rude, just some advice if
- 40:20Speaker 3: you have any Oh gosh, that makes you feel so
- 40:26Speaker 3: sick for you, Like, yeah, I know how stressful this
- 40:30Speaker 3: would be, and there's absolutely no judgment from us. We
- 40:34Speaker 3: know that this kind of stuff is a slippery slope.
- 40:37Speaker 3: But so you worked as a credit cards editor for years,
- 40:41Speaker 3: so I'm sure that you have some tipsah advice. Yeah.
- 40:45Speaker 2: I think before we did this episode, and you know,
- 40:48Speaker 2: we were looking at the submissions from the chicks, we
- 40:51Speaker 2: were talking about should you ever get a credit card
- 40:54Speaker 2: in your twenties? I think it honestly depends. I personally
- 40:59Speaker 2: never did, even being a credit card editor and being
- 41:03Speaker 2: you know, well versed in credit cards, because I think
- 41:06Speaker 2: whether or not it's suitable really comes down to your
- 41:08Speaker 2: spending habits and financial needs. I think, personally, a credit
- 41:13Speaker 2: card is only of good use if you're purely using
- 41:18Speaker 2: it to buy things that you can immediately pay off
- 41:22Speaker 2: because you're earning points, or you're using it to build
- 41:25Speaker 2: up your credit score and credit history, which you can
- 41:29Speaker 2: only do if you're making your payments on time and
- 41:33Speaker 2: not collecting or attracting interest.
- 41:36Speaker 3: So I think that's the thing, Like you really.
- 41:39Speaker 2: Need to sit down and have a like good hard think,
- 41:43Speaker 2: like what are your spending habits? Like do you use
- 41:46Speaker 2: a lot of buy now, pay later services? Do you
- 41:48Speaker 2: find that you know you're sort of going paycheck to paycheck?
- 41:53Speaker 2: Do you struggle to save money or like really know
- 41:56Speaker 2: where your money is?
- 41:57Speaker 3: Like literacy, Yeah, and I think say that you have
- 42:00Speaker 3: good financial literacy. Yeah, And there's no shame if you're like, oh,
- 42:03Speaker 3: I actually have no idea, Like.
- 42:06Speaker 2: Ignorance is bliss when it comes to my money. I
- 42:08Speaker 2: think a lot of people have that approach. And I
- 42:11Speaker 2: think a lot of people look at credit cards as
- 42:13Speaker 2: a way to get some breathing room. And I think
- 42:16Speaker 2: if you're going to look at it like that, I
- 42:18Speaker 2: personally wouldn't get one.
- 42:20Speaker 3: But we're here, now you've got the credit cards.
- 42:24Speaker 2: This isn't financial advice, we will say, I think it
- 42:28Speaker 2: could really be worth maybe going to speak to someone.
- 42:31Speaker 2: I know that is an additional expense, but a financial
- 42:34Speaker 2: advisor or an accountant could help give you an actionable
- 42:39Speaker 2: plan on how to pay down your debt that will
- 42:41Speaker 2: work for you.
- 42:42Speaker 3: And they have all the licenses and everything to give
- 42:45Speaker 3: you that advice.
- 42:47Speaker 2: If I was talking to someone generally with a credit
- 42:49Speaker 2: card debt. I would have said to potentially get a
- 42:52Speaker 2: balanced transfer, which she did mention her submission, which is
- 42:56Speaker 2: basically a credit card that allows you to transfer a
- 42:59Speaker 2: debt or multiple debts, from one credit card that's attracting
- 43:02Speaker 2: interest to a credit card that charges no interest for
- 43:06Speaker 2: a promotional period. So, for example, this promotional period may
- 43:09Speaker 2: last for twenty eight months, and that will give you
- 43:12Speaker 2: twenty eight months to pay down your debt without attracting
- 43:16Speaker 2: any further interest. So again, it gives you a bit
- 43:19Speaker 2: of like breathing room to concentrate.
- 43:21Speaker 3: On paying that down.
- 43:23Speaker 2: But even if you've got a balanced transfer credit card,
- 43:25Speaker 2: you should never use it to make purchases or new purchases. Ever,
- 43:30Speaker 2: So in this situation, would you like because she obviously
- 43:33Speaker 2: can't do that, Yeah, would The first thing if you
- 43:37Speaker 2: in this situation do would be is stop paying your
- 43:39Speaker 2: bills on this credit card. So the first thing that
- 43:41Speaker 2: I would do is stop using your card to make
- 43:44Speaker 2: purchases full stop. Yeah, take off any recurring bills that
- 43:48Speaker 2: you've got on there, stop using it to make any
- 43:51Speaker 2: new purchases, and focus purely on paying the debt off.
- 43:56Speaker 2: I think that you know, removing the recurring payments in
- 43:59Speaker 2: your bills is a first app. The second would be
- 44:01Speaker 2: remove your card details from your Apple Pay, remove it
- 44:05Speaker 2: from any places that it might be saved in online
- 44:07Speaker 2: accounts where you use it to check out, remove it
- 44:10Speaker 2: from after pay if you've been using it on that
- 44:13Speaker 2: anything like that. Go through all of your accounts and
- 44:15Speaker 2: take it off so it's not even an option. Take
- 44:18Speaker 2: it out of your digital wallet whatever you use, and
- 44:22Speaker 2: then leave it at home. Don't take it out with
- 44:25Speaker 2: you when you're going shopping. Leave it like hidden or
- 44:28Speaker 2: locked away so you won't be tempted to make any purchases.
- 44:33Speaker 3: It's not even an option. I would do whatever it
- 44:35Speaker 3: to lock in a box and throw it to like
- 44:38Speaker 3: have it away. And then it's going to be really hard.
- 44:42Speaker 3: Yeah you're breaking like an addiction, because yeah, I think
- 44:46Speaker 3: it's it is really hard, and there is such an
- 44:49Speaker 3: element of addiction to shopping that it's finding the triggers
- 44:54Speaker 3: as well. And if that is things like social media,
- 44:57Speaker 3: like one thing I did when I felt like I
- 44:59Speaker 3: was shopping to which is eye went and unfollowed every brand,
- 45:02Speaker 3: Like a shopping addiction is a very real thing.
- 45:07Speaker 2: Like we're not being like TIHI shopoholics like it actually
- 45:11Speaker 2: is a genuine addiction. So I don't don't downplay that
- 45:15Speaker 2: or like I know you said, like it sounds silly.
- 45:16Speaker 3: It doesn't at all.
- 45:18Speaker 2: I think a lot of people experience it. But I
- 45:20Speaker 2: think that if you concentrate on paying off your debt
- 45:24Speaker 2: and not making any future purchases on that card, you
- 45:29Speaker 2: will slowly but surely pay off your debt. And I
- 45:33Speaker 2: think that the more that you pay off your debt,
- 45:35Speaker 2: you're showing your bank good science, good behavior that you're
- 45:41Speaker 2: paying it off. And as you're doing that and your
- 45:44Speaker 2: debt is going down, also keep tabs on your credit
- 45:48Speaker 2: score and look at your credit report and see if
- 45:50Speaker 2: that's gonna improve, because typically it does when you're paying
- 45:54Speaker 2: your bills on time. And also the amount of debt
- 45:57Speaker 2: that you have is being lowered. And keep an eye
- 45:59Speaker 2: on that because you may be able to apply for
- 46:02Speaker 2: a balance transfer card in future when your debt is
- 46:05Speaker 2: smaller and you've improved your credit score. But again I
- 46:09Speaker 2: would make sure that you're doing all that, do all
- 46:11Speaker 2: your research, know what the eligibility requirements are before applying
- 46:15Speaker 2: for that future balance transfer card.
- 46:17Speaker 3: If you do decide to do that. But paying down
- 46:20Speaker 3: your debt now.
- 46:21Speaker 2: Will potentially make it easier for you to get approval
- 46:25Speaker 2: in the future. But stop using your current credit card
- 46:29Speaker 2: to make any purchases.
- 46:30Speaker 3: That's the very first step that you have to do. Yeah,
- 46:34Speaker 3: we do have a whole episode about tips to avoid
- 46:38Speaker 3: impulse shopping that also might be helpful, and we can
- 46:41Speaker 3: put a link in that in the show notes. There's
- 46:43Speaker 3: a lot of people that find themselves in similar predicaments
- 46:47Speaker 3: and it is really hard, and it is really easy
- 46:49Speaker 3: to be angry at yourself. And while it is good
- 46:52Speaker 3: to be accountable, it's really better to put that energy
- 46:56Speaker 3: into fixing the problem rather than just hating yourself for it.
- 46:59Speaker 3: So you have all the tools and you have everything
- 47:03Speaker 3: to make a decision and to stick to it. And
- 47:06Speaker 3: I really really believe that you can do this. You
- 47:08Speaker 3: absolutely can. So you got this chick love love, Yeah,
- 47:14Speaker 3: good luck, but you don't need it. You can do it.
- 47:16Speaker 3: You can do it bad alright, alrighty chicks. Well that
- 47:21Speaker 3: is a wrap for today's episode of Too broad Check
- 47:23Speaker 3: Its That is a ray. That is a right.
- 47:26Speaker 2: Thanks to your chicks for having us in your ear holes.
- 47:29Speaker 2: We love to be here and thanks for sending in.
- 47:30Speaker 3: Your submissions as well. We always love these episodes.
- 47:34Speaker 2: Pass the mic over to the chicks and thank you
- 47:36Speaker 2: to m ik Made for making today's episode happened.
- 47:39Speaker 3: Love Yeah bye check bye
