- 0:01The people have spoken. That's something I don't think I
- 0:04would take a chance out of my opinion. 218 strikeouts for a
- 0:08guy who was his third year in the league.
- 0:10Now that's a lot of strikeouts. And they're here to deliver.
- 0:15He wants to be on a competitor, period.
- 0:18Bringing you the facts. Jose and bring you trash man, I
- 0:23fell for that hard. While keeping you up to date.
- 0:26Man, like what a like question mark that is after you leave
- 0:30Cole, you get him out of the game and all of a sudden you
- 0:32don't know what you're going to get on.
- 0:33The other side on all fantasy baseball news.
- 0:36There's a slouch man. He's.
- 0:38Just a a potential he's a. Slug.
- 0:41Dark horse winner of a Cy Young candidate.
- 0:44Welcome to Bourbon Involved. Averaged like 160 strikeouts
- 0:47prior to his breakout year. I don't even call that breakout
- 0:50year. I would call that a career
- 0:52because I don't think you have another wheel.
- 0:54We're going to talk about a lot more baseball.
- 0:56This is just the beginning guys. That's right.
- 1:02So look man, coming down Want all right, man, after a
- 1:18long week off B and Mikey V coming back to you show 52
- 1:23cruising along almost halfway through the year, which means a
- 1:27lot of fun stuff trade talk. I mean, I mean, this is your
- 1:31chance to to build your fantasy team for the playoffs.
- 1:35That's what this is right. If if you have a deadline and,
- 1:38and a lot of times some leagues do that kind of coincide with
- 1:40the baseball deadline, this is your time to do it.
- 1:44If you don't, it's still a good time to do it because you're
- 1:47still going to make a push. You're probably, you'll probably
- 1:49have about 1/3 of the season left in fantasy anyway.
- 1:52So, you know, it's, it's crazy. The time is flying by.
- 1:56So, yeah. So this is Bourbon and Ball.
- 1:58I'm Doug. Mikey V joining us over there at
- 2:00Clearwater, my good friend. We've been doing fantasy
- 2:04baseball now for over 20 years. It's ESPN league.
- 2:09It's a points league head to head.
- 2:11A lot of the stats we give you are from that particular league.
- 2:14But if you're a top five, top 10 hitter or pitcher in a points
- 2:18league, chances are you're a top five or top 10 hitter or pitcher
- 2:21in a Cats league or Roto league. So a lot of the stats we give
- 2:26you are going over some of those higher scoring people, some of
- 2:29the lower scoring ones. It's always good stuff, man.
- 2:33And of course, I am here drinking my bourbon out of my
- 2:36Bourbon Ball. Bourbon glass right here.
- 2:41Man, I'm going with the vodka Red Bull again, Doug, I need AI,
- 2:44need a little kick up. Here.
- 2:46I I started with a espresso martini beforehand so I'm kind
- 2:50of pumped and feeling good right now.
- 2:52What flavour? Dude, the pistachio.
- 2:56Pistachio. Yeah, yeah, for now, I got
- 3:00almond. That's the next step.
- 3:02Oh. Yeah, that one is, yeah.
- 3:07So, yeah, I mean, you know, we are coming from to you from
- 3:10military broadcasting radio, from Patriot Radio.
- 3:12So of course there's military affiliation associated with
- 3:15that. I was a paratrooper for over six
- 3:17years in the Army. I got jumps in Ireland, Germany,
- 3:19the Netherlands and was a combat veteran after spending a year in
- 3:23Afghanistan and all of 2012. Yeah, and I got some family
- 3:28ties. My father was part of the Air
- 3:29Force during the Vietnam War and my grandfather was paramedic
- 3:33during World War 2. So again, a lot of ties.
- 3:37Awesome, man. So this is this is when I I it's
- 3:42like every time we have a show, I'm like, dude, this is jam
- 3:44packed dude, this is jam packed like this is it good stuff to go
- 3:49over. So let's just jump right in.
- 3:51Let's go around the lead because I think this is going to be one
- 3:55of the funner segments today because of of just what's out
- 3:59there. So let's just jump right in.
- 4:02Yeah, let's just go here. All right.
- 4:10Now, 2 weeks ago before we took our week off for, you know, the
- 4:154th of July and hopefully everybody had a safe and happy
- 4:174th of July out there. We were talking Yankees won
- 4:21first, I want to say to Tampa Bay.
- 4:25Toronto were flip flopping second and third.
- 4:28You had the Red Sox 4th and then you had Baltimore 5th.
- 4:31All right, so if you look at the standings around the league, we
- 4:34all figured, right, the Tigers and Houston would take the
- 4:38Central and the West, which they're they're leading the
- 4:40front runners right now. We figured that would happen.
- 4:42You know, we thought Philly and the Mets would probably Duke it
- 4:44out in the East because the Mets honestly have a great offense.
- 4:50Their rotation has a lot to be desired.
- 4:53Whereas Philly kind of has that balance.
- 4:55I think, you know, they got a great rotation angered by Zach
- 4:58Wheeler, Nola should be coming back hopefully in a month or two
- 5:01just to help him out for that push.
- 5:03Their offense is is turning it around.
- 5:06I mean, Trey Turner has been a stud in there.
- 5:08Harper is back and healthy. So we knew they they would
- 5:10probably Duke it out. I mean, we didn't think the
- 5:13Braves would, would dump as much as they dumped.
- 5:16But yeah, they're unfortunately, unless they make a massive push,
- 5:22I, I just don't see them making it.
- 5:25And yeah, we, I mean, that we, we figured the Cubs would
- 5:29control the Central right, because they had Tucker in that
- 5:32trade. And Tucker, we'll, we'll talk
- 5:34about what he brings to a lineup and you'll see that in some of
- 5:37the stats when you start going over some of these players.
- 5:39But and in the Dodgers, I don't want to forget about the West,
- 5:43but we did obviously the Dodgers.
- 5:45I mean, you know, it's the Dodgers, but let's talk the East
- 5:50for a minute because this has been a division that, you know,
- 5:54on paper it's the Yankees to lose.
- 5:57You know, you Garrett Cole gets hurt, you lose Soto, you come in
- 6:01and you bring Max free, you sign Cody Ballinger, you sign Goldie
- 6:07and you're like, OK, you know what?
- 6:09This is going to be a pretty decent team on paper.
- 6:12It's probably the best in the, in the, in the East.
- 6:15And then of course, you, you're like, OK, well, then you go
- 6:18down, you're like, OK, well, these other teams will they'll
- 6:20probably flutter in second, maybe win a wild card and that's
- 6:23that. All right, well, here's the
- 6:26standings. All right, This is the east.
- 6:29And if you look at it, I mean, it's you.
- 6:33I mean, the thing that throws me about this entire the the
- 6:37standings in particular, right? You have look, look at the
- 6:40streak in the last 10. You have the Blue Jays 9:00 and
- 6:431:00. You have the Yankees four and
- 6:47six. You have Tampa Bay three and
- 6:50seven, the Red Sox nine and one. Tampa Bay.
- 6:54Toronto, excuse me, is is in first place by two games now.
- 7:02I'll be the first to tell you I didn't see this coming.
- 7:04I think the Yankees right now falling on their face.
- 7:07I think Goldie, his, his, you know, pot of, of gold he found
- 7:12at the end of the rainbow is kind of dried up and they're
- 7:16struggling. And I, we said this before we
- 7:18said, hey, listen, if Soto comes back to that lineup, do you
- 7:22really want to add that bat and take somebody else out?
- 7:25Because I at the time adding a Staten into that lineup isn't
- 7:30going to and I didn't think would help it and it hasn't,
- 7:32right. He did hit a good home run
- 7:33yesterday. I mean, the guy can still mash.
- 7:36He'll mash it and $1.72 or, you know, 18180 or maybe around 200.
- 7:41But I, I thought he did more harm than good to a lineup.
- 7:45And I, I don't want to say I'm right, but I, I think I am, you
- 7:51know, and we said, you know, then of course the news broke
- 7:55that they were releasing DJ Lemahieu.
- 7:57We of course called that. We knew that was going to
- 7:59happen. He's an older guy.
- 8:00He's been struggling in the last couple years, which is a shame
- 8:03because he was a Silver Slugger winner his first year there.
- 8:06I mean, he got hit like 330, right?
- 8:08And that was three or four years ago.
- 8:10So they got a lot to do. Man, that end of the rotation's
- 8:14rough. We're going to talk about Luis
- 8:15Gill coming back and what that brings to your fantasy team.
- 8:18But all talks on on Toronto, like people thought they were
- 8:23going to be sellers. You're in first place.
- 8:25You're you're 2 up. This is from this morning.
- 8:28You're 2 up on the Yankees. You're a buyer now.
- 8:31You know, you got Anthony Sandy Air that's not producing at all.
- 8:34So you definitely need a bat. You need a big bat in there.
- 8:37I don't know who or what. And we're going to talk about
- 8:39trade candidates later in the segment.
- 8:42But you do need to do something. I, I think this is this is if,
- 8:47if you're a Red Sox fan, this is great because if it's anybody
- 8:52but the Yankees, you want to see up there.
- 8:54A little surprised. Hey, all four teams are still in
- 8:57it. You know, Red Sox only 5 out.
- 9:00You know, the only person who the only team that's probably
- 9:04definitely out of it is Baltimore.
- 9:05I mean, 11 1/2 is a tough hole to dig out of, but yeah, it is.
- 9:12It's I I would have never thought Toronto, honestly.
- 9:17Yeah, Toronto this year was a make a break year for him.
- 9:20We we said that in the beginning of the year, we said the roster
- 9:22looks really good. Vlad can be an MVP candidate
- 9:25when he's the best player out there, when he's healthy, when
- 9:28he's doing his best. Boba Shet had a bad year last
- 9:31year. He's rebounding this year for
- 9:32sure. And George Springer, you have to
- 9:35talk about George Springer for him.
- 9:36That guy's one of the hottest hitters in baseball and he and
- 9:39he's the guy that's driving the runs in and, and Kirk's sitting
- 9:42too. And they, they had a very good
- 9:44line up. And then their rotation is also
- 9:46very good, very mature, as I put it with Godsman and Barrios.
- 9:52We have experience in that, in that rotation.
- 9:54You just got Max back too. He'll still give you some
- 9:57innings. He's not going to be the same
- 9:58guy, but he's still going to give you some innings.
- 10:01But yeah, the team, it was a make a break year.
- 10:03The beginning of the year obviously didn't look that
- 10:05great, but it's more of what you've done lately than rather
- 10:08than what you've done. And right now Yankees having a
- 10:11hard time scoring a lot of runs like they used to.
- 10:13That's really like their their backbone this year.
- 10:16And I think we said it maybe a couple weeks ago, Doug, but with
- 10:19the Yankees, you know, at the last year, they were such on a
- 10:22high pedestal, being in the World Series last year, playing
- 10:27against the Dodgers. And the expectation was already
- 10:30so, so high. So anything but a World Series
- 10:33is a bust. And a lot of fans, Yankees fans,
- 10:36eyes and probably baseballs too, they would love probably to see
- 10:40another Dodger Yankee World Series match up.
- 10:42That's that's big money. But in reality though, I don't
- 10:46know if they got all the pieces. Right there, like you said you
- 10:48got. Stanton that kind of joins in
- 10:50there back in that line up kind of looking sluggish, kind of
- 10:55like we've already seen with him in the years past already with
- 10:57the Yankees. A lot of money they're spent.
- 10:59I think DJ was about 21 million cut they had.
- 11:04They had to eat that, which was crazy.
- 11:05But that's just the size of the baseball contracts we have now.
- 11:08So, you know, we have to remind ourselves of that sometimes.
- 11:12But they're going to have to make a move during the trade
- 11:14deadline. I mean, Tampa's going to be
- 11:17Tampa. They're going to always be
- 11:18middle of the road. They're always going to be
- 11:19competitive. I do like what they do with the
- 11:21young guys. They got Joel Boyle that came
- 11:24back up. It sounds like he's going to
- 11:27piggyback up Drew Rosen. Is that how you say his last
- 11:30name? Drew Rosen and Rosen, yeah.
- 11:34So he, it sounds like he's going to be the opener.
- 11:36And then they're going to have Joe Boyle, who is one of their
- 11:38top pitching prospects, run behind them, hopefully go 5 or 6
- 11:42innings behind him going into the the closing role for
- 11:45Fairbanks. So they're going to do their
- 11:47thing. Boston, I mean, one of the
- 11:50hottest teams in baseball right now, like you said, Doug, nine
- 11:53and one last 10 games. And then also Baltimore starting
- 11:56to slowly put it together. Dean Kramer, it's kind of been a
- 11:59mixed bag for him this year, but when he's been good, he is good.
- 12:03I'm watching the game right now. He's almost 24.
- 12:06It's 4 nothing. He's looking good.
- 12:07But yeah, it's just a a funny division because even though you
- 12:11said they're 11 1/2 games back, I don't think it's totally wild
- 12:15for them to to make a charge here.
- 12:17Maybe not enough, but I can definitely see them winning a
- 12:20lot more baseball games in the second-half than they did in the
- 12:22first half. I mean, you can't, you can't be
- 12:28any worse. I think we I mean, we could be
- 12:32Baltimore with a, with a, a stick.
- 12:34You know, we've been doing that all all year.
- 12:36You know, you, you go out and you lose a 41 home run guy with
- 12:38Anthony Sandayer. And again, who's not to say he
- 12:41couldn't produce better than what he's doing in Toronto if
- 12:43they re signed him and he stayed in Baltimore, right?
- 12:46But you lose a a bat like that. And then we can talk about
- 12:50Austin Hazen and Cincinnati who when he's playing, he's he looks
- 12:55good. I mean, unfortunately he's hit
- 12:57the ILA couple times this year, but he looks good when he's on
- 13:00that field. Man, they have him slotting
- 13:02right after LAD the cruise. That's it's a good line up,
- 13:06right? It's a fun, young, really decent
- 13:09line up. But you're losing two of those
- 13:11pieces. You're putting no one in there
- 13:13to fill him. You're relying on people.
- 13:16You're expecting them to produce the same without those pieces.
- 13:21And that's what you saw. You know, you lose Corbin Burns
- 13:24you, you know. Yeah.
- 13:26I mean, if you, if, if me and Dean Kramer is your ace, then,
- 13:29you know, you're not looking good.
- 13:31I mean, they got Charlie Morton. And.
- 13:32Yeah, I mean, yeah, he he looked like he turned the corner.
- 13:34But he, dude, the first month he was out there, he was struggling
- 13:38so bad. They moved.
- 13:39They they put him in the AAA, then they moved him into a
- 13:42relief role. Now he's starting again, but it,
- 13:45it's honestly, it's very underwhelming.
- 13:48And I don't, I, I mean, everybody's struggling.
- 13:50You know, Gunner Henderson, we talked Westburg, we were talking
- 13:52about Westburg earlier. You know, it, it's just a really
- 13:56underperforming team. And honestly, I look at this the
- 14:00standings today and of all the teams that probably won't move,
- 14:06it's it's Baltimore. I think they're going to stay in
- 14:08last play. I think they'll they maybe they
- 14:10maybe they see saw it, maybe they go up the 4th, but I feel
- 14:13like they're going to finish in last place.
- 14:15I really do. As far as the rest of it, I
- 14:18still think the Yankees should pull it out.
- 14:20I still do. They're just it's too talented,
- 14:23right? Maybe Toronto.
- 14:25I mean, who you could be looking at all three wild card teams
- 14:30from coming from the East, you know, and that's how crazy it
- 14:33is. But it, I don't know you, we at
- 14:36the Athletic and we'll talk about that in a couple couple
- 14:41subjects later in the same segment released the top 10
- 14:45trade candidates for this year ranked most likely to least
- 14:49likely. And they have 3 Red Sox players
- 14:52in the top 10. So they're thinking the Red Sox
- 14:56aren't going to, you know, they're going to kind of hit the
- 14:58crap or at some point too. I don't know.
- 15:00It's interesting, it's fun, obviously.
- 15:03Hey, I'd love to see Toronto go in there and do it.
- 15:05You know, like you said, it's a good rotation.
- 15:07It's kind of probably their last time at it.
- 15:09You know, Chris Bessette looks really good, right?
- 15:13He did two years ago, horrible last year, turned it around.
- 15:16Gosman looks like he turned it around.
- 15:17Barrios is Barrios, you know, high three RA, but it'll still
- 15:21give you 12 wins and and you know, 180 strikeouts.
- 15:25So it's always been a good rotation.
- 15:28I think for, you know, at least two years ago and then this year
- 15:31it to me, it was the offense and it kind of still is.
- 15:34You know, it's you sign Anthony Sandia, you're expecting this
- 15:37this big void, this DH outfielder to fill the line up
- 15:41in the middle and he hasn't done anything anything at all.
- 15:45So if I was AGM for Toronto, I mean, you gotta look for a bet.
- 15:52You need to you just you have to, you know, somebody that I
- 15:57mean, if J like a JD Martinez, if you know what I mean, like,
- 16:01you know, five years ago, a JD Martinez would slot perfect in
- 16:04here, right. You go out and get ADH guy give
- 16:07you still give you like, you know, 15 home runs a
- 16:09second-half, like that's the type of player that you're
- 16:11looking for. But I there's still a bad way in
- 16:14my opinion. Definitely, definitely.
- 16:18There's there's a void there. They still need to fill that
- 16:20void. It's it's tough to build a team
- 16:23like that and and think like it. It's because Anthony Stand down
- 16:27here hasn't been producing. Let's just call for what it is.
- 16:29You thought you were going to get 35 to 40 home runs, maybe
- 16:33100 ribbies depending on where he's batting in the order.
- 16:35And it just hasn't been like that yet.
- 16:39And yeah, obviously it's been a disappointing start to it.
- 16:41But again, we got a whole half of the season still.
- 16:44Now he's going to be healthy hopefully and stay on the field
- 16:47and we'll we'll see what he's going to do.
- 16:49And just a quick note on Baltimore real quick, I did see
- 16:52it online. I think it was one other podcast
- 16:54called Foul Territory, but they think they had Jim Bowden on and
- 16:59he he mentioned, I thought I agreed with the 2 is Baltimore
- 17:03should get Dave Dombrowski as their GM and then just blow it
- 17:07up and just get these these veterans instead and then make a
- 17:11small, small run. Which got me to thinking, you
- 17:15know, we talked about big market, middle market, small
- 17:17market teams. Maybe that is like an
- 17:19interesting formula to build up a farm system and then just blow
- 17:24it up to make a, a strong push for maybe like a two year
- 17:28stretch, which you might only get sometimes in some teams
- 17:31anyway, when you have a team like Baltimore with all these
- 17:34young top top guys. Just a thought, thought it was
- 17:37interesting. Yeah, for sure, man.
- 17:39I mean, he'll, he'll win you a championship, but he'll ruin
- 17:42your organization doing it. Oh yeah.
- 17:45But that's worth it. I mean, you know, you take the
- 17:47Sox, right? You know, they, they went to the
- 17:50Dombrowski age with that. And you know, I I think it's, if
- 17:54you're a good scout, it doesn't take that long to come back from
- 17:57it. So Sox clearly rebounded pretty
- 18:01relatively quick I think from him and been competitive
- 18:06competitive enough. I agree.
- 18:09All right, Let's just touch quickly on on the next two
- 18:13because I do want to talk a lot about this trade list that was
- 18:16released by The Athletic. So obviously All Star snubs, All
- 18:20Star snubs. You know, that was the talk of
- 18:26early earlier this week. You know, who got snubbed, who
- 18:28didn't. So I decided why not?
- 18:31And obviously some of them are now playing because they're
- 18:33replacements. My thing is that they probably
- 18:36should have never been replacements.
- 18:38I think they were good enough to be starters.
- 18:40So I've listed, you know, 7 snubs at the time.
- 18:46Obviously I think 3 or 4 from now are still playing and just
- 18:49looked at their fantasy numbers and figured out if maybe they
- 18:51should be starting right. So here are the here they are.
- 18:55And listen, some of them got it right in my opinion, some of
- 19:00them didn't. So I'll let me Junior Cameron,
- 19:03I'll, I'll just run him down real quick.
- 19:05Junior Caminero, he's a replacement.
- 19:07So he is in there. But I mean, the guy was hitting
- 19:1029423 home runs, 59 ribbies, 55 runs, five stolen bases.
- 19:17I mean, he's got 72 strikeouts, which isn't crazy bad.
- 19:20You know, he's giving me a 2.9 a start and he's ranked 5th.
- 19:23He is the 5th best third baseman.
- 19:26And this guy didn't start right. He he, he was a replacement
- 19:30framer Valdez. This one kind of was surprising
- 19:34to me because I think he's he's he's found it like from two or
- 19:37three years ago, like he's found it right. 10 and 415 innings,
- 19:42115 strikeouts. Walks are high.
- 19:45They're always high with him because he's a double play
- 19:47machine. But 2A29 ERA, he's giving you
- 19:5016.2 points a start, 16.2 The guys ranked 6th, right?
- 19:57You got Joe Ryan, who was a replacement for Hunter Brown.
- 20:00He was 8 and 404 innings, 116 strikeouts, a 27 ERA.
- 20:06He was ranked 18th, 13.6 a start.
- 20:10So honestly, I don't think that's a snub in my opinion
- 20:13based on the numbers. Trey Turner, 29411 homers, does
- 20:2066 home runs, 24 stolen bases. He's giving you 2.9.
- 20:23He's ranked 4th. Juan Soto to me was probably the
- 20:26biggest snub of all. As crazy as it is, as horrible
- 20:30as his first month was, we had talked about, you know, he had a
- 20:34horrible first half with the Padres and still ended up
- 20:37becoming a top five overall point scorer in in leagues.
- 20:41He has 264 still 21 home runs, 67 runs scored, eleven stolen
- 20:48bases, 72 strikeouts, Still giving you 3.3 a start.
- 20:54Like that's a 3.3. That's more than any so far
- 20:56hitter that we've named. OK, that's more than than Trey.
- 21:00That's more than junior Christopher Sanchez. 7 and 207
- 21:07in his pitch, 116 strikeouts, A-25 ERA.
- 21:09He's giving you 14.3 a start. This one I think they got right
- 21:13to. I mean, he's ranked 12th.
- 21:14You could make the case, you could make it, but it's kind of
- 21:16on that fringe for me. And last but not least, I'd say
- 21:19Suzuki 263. I mean, 25 home run, 77 ribbies,
- 21:25geez. 2 stolen bases, 51 runs scored.
- 21:28However, 106 strikeouts. That's before today's game.
- 21:32I think he has one against Rondo today.
- 21:35He's giving you a 2.8 to start. I mean it overall, I, I, I feel,
- 21:42you know, I think like Framberg, Soto, like those guys, you know,
- 21:45Trey Turner, Junior Kim and those guys they, they have a,
- 21:48they have a bicker, Joe Ryan, Christopher Sanchez.
- 21:51I don't think they do. But it's, it's just interesting
- 21:55to look at the numbers and see who got in and who didn't,
- 21:57especially when you look at them from like a fantasy perspective.
- 22:00That's all I'm saying. Very fair.
- 22:03I mean, Soto, it's it's kind of crazy because you become kind of
- 22:06numb, but how good he actually is.
- 22:08So when he has a season like this, you're like, oh, he's he's
- 22:11terrible. And it's like, no, that's not
- 22:13the case. And also he plays for a New York
- 22:15team. So you're also more critical
- 22:16sometimes in that aspect. So no, he he should definitely
- 22:20be there. Cramber, I mean, man, he does
- 22:25have a grudge, huh? Looking at those numbers, It's
- 22:28he's done everything he was supposed to do and it's just
- 22:31been the Hunter Brown show too. And since he's just like kind of
- 22:34like the new toy people, you know, sleep on Framber, which is
- 22:39crazy. So a little too bad about that.
- 22:42Trey Turner having a bounce back year.
- 22:45Loved seeing it. He's really been a huge
- 22:48contributor to that Phillies team.
- 22:51He plays for a competitive shortstop position, though.
- 22:54There's a lot of good shortstops in the National League between
- 22:58LA Daily Cruz and you got Glendor.
- 23:01So it's it's tough, tough competition.
- 23:03But I mean, his name is right next to him though.
- 23:06He's just as good as those guys on any given day.
- 23:09And I agree, I think the rest of the names, I mean, good for
- 23:12Junior. I think Junior's only 2122.
- 23:15He'll play in plenty of All Star games.
- 23:17I think he's what is he a replacement already?
- 23:19I believe so, yeah. He's gonna be.
- 23:21There, it's not going to be his last one.
- 23:23He probably should have got in maybe the first time Bregman
- 23:25missed a lot of time. So it's kind of Fair for this
- 23:28guy to go in here. But it's just funny though,
- 23:31because, you know, Suzuki, I just never looked at it as like
- 23:35a guy that should make an All Star team again, a a crowded
- 23:39Cubs team with PCA and Tucker really just taking headlines.
- 23:44But Suzuki's been just as good. But yeah, I guess the strikeouts
- 23:48are a little concerning. I guess from a fantasy
- 23:50perspective. Only only two stolen bases.
- 23:53Like that's not that great in if you go in a bad slump, all of a
- 23:56sudden, you know, now you got 120 negative one points going
- 24:01forward. And last but not least, my boy
- 24:04Joe Ryan. You know, I'm a Joe Ryan guy,
- 24:06Doug, but. You traded.
- 24:10I did because I got him in like 2 other leagues.
- 24:12So I can, I still got the, I still got the, the Joe Ryan T in
- 24:17the closet. But yeah, he, he's just a stud.
- 24:21Regardless whether he makes an All Star game or not, he's one
- 24:25of the better pitchers out there in the American League.
- 24:27Regardless. I, I, I take him any day over
- 24:30just about anyone else. I mean, the All Star game is not
- 24:35really like relevant anymore, is it really?
- 24:39It's a, it's a, it's a tip of the cap.
- 24:40It's a, a good thing to have on your resume if you're going for
- 24:44a Hall of Fame bid. But I feel like lately these All
- 24:47Star games, they're, they're fun, they're unique.
- 24:49I think the, the Home Run Derby is almost as important as the
- 24:52All Star game at this point. I feel there's a lot as much
- 24:56hype for the, the Home Run Derby.
- 24:58So I am looking forward to that. That's going to be a lot of fun
- 25:01to watch. But yeah, these guys, they're,
- 25:04they're very good baseball players.
- 25:05And I think any other year they probably would have made a team.
- 25:08But that's what happens sometimes with the fan voting.
- 25:11You get the fans vote, you know, you leave it up to them.
- 25:15It can go either way. Yeah, and that brings us right
- 25:19into the Home Run Derby. So the, the, the participants
- 25:24were sent a couple days ago. These are the ones that are in
- 25:27it. I will say there has been an
- 25:29update to the list. I think it was earlier today,
- 25:32Ronald Cunier junior decided to not partake in it anymore
- 25:35because of that back issue he was having.
- 25:37Even though he is in the lineup today and hit a lead off double.
- 25:40Matt Olson will be replacing him.
- 25:42So that's the list right there. I think my question to you is
- 25:47just real brief, right? We always talk about the Home
- 25:50Run Derby hangover, right? Someone goes in, had a great
- 25:55first half, comes in first or second place in the Derby and
- 25:59you see him hit maybe four home runs.
- 26:02Do you see any of these guys that you think would have a Home
- 26:06Run Derby hangover? I think I might see a couple,
- 26:11you know, Jazz. Jazz hasn't been that great this
- 26:13year. So I'm kind of excluding him
- 26:15from this conversation because if he doesn't do great again in
- 26:18the second-half, it's not because of the Home Run Derby.
- 26:20He just hasn't been good this whole year.
- 26:23Kind of a straight shot on Jazz there.
- 26:25Sorry, but I I'm going to go with the younger guys.
- 26:27I'm going to go with James Wood and I'm going to go with Junior
- 26:30Caminero first. You know, full seasons really in
- 26:33the big leagues so far this year, both having very
- 26:36successful seasons. I mean, you know, young guys
- 26:39going into an All Star game, you know, big guys going into it
- 26:43next weekend and when they come back, I can see both those guys
- 26:48potentially struggling coming off of that because you know
- 26:52they're going to give it their all that.
- 26:53You know, they're they're young bucks.
- 26:54They're they're not there to they're young, they're healthy.
- 26:58They're that's just what they do.
- 26:59You know, they're going to put on shows they want to do want to
- 27:01impress. So you know, O'Neil Cruz kind of
- 27:05the same thing. I know he's having a pretty good
- 27:07year, but again, he just strikes out already so much.
- 27:10Maybe that would mess him up a little bit more.
- 27:13But I think the rest of the guys, I think they're going to
- 27:16be fine. I think they're more better
- 27:19hitters, I guess. I guess they're just more
- 27:23polished in my opinion. Cal Riley.
- 27:25Cal Riley could just hit when he hits.
- 27:27I think he's just kind of going to have that year this year.
- 27:29Byron Buxton, I feel like he's kind of starting to find a flow
- 27:33for the first time in his career in a full season.
- 27:36Still dealing with Knick knack injuries here and they're like
- 27:38that hand. But I I don't see him going into
- 27:42like a ridiculous lump because of this.
- 27:44And you said Matt Olson's going to be there instead of Hakuna.
- 27:47Yeah, he he's been there, done that too.
- 27:49So I think those guys are fine. I'm worried about the young
- 27:52guys. Yeah, I would say, I mean, to
- 27:55your point, I would probably say O'Neil Cruz, Jazz, maybe even
- 27:59Cal. You know, I'm just only because
- 28:01it's his first one. I don't know how strong he's,
- 28:03you know, he's going out there. And of course, I mean, the guy's
- 28:06got you know what, 30 something home runs.
- 28:08People are going to want to see that same production in the
- 28:10second-half. And I say he finishes with like
- 28:13say 43 you you people are going to be either blaming the home in
- 28:18Derby or just, you know, hey, he just ran out of gas.
- 28:22So I do agree with some of that. It'll it'll be interesting.
- 28:24It's always fun to watch home in Derbys anyways.
- 28:26We always do our league bet and we always pick a guy and see who
- 28:30wins, which brings up to my next thing.
- 28:33They're the odds. So I know I know who I'm
- 28:40picking. If I was going to place a bet,
- 28:42I'd love to know who you're thinking real quick.
- 28:46So I I I dabble in the in the numbers sometimes here.
- 28:50I cannot believe O'Neill Cruz is plus 3:30.
- 28:53What the heck does Vegas know that we don't?
- 28:57So that one sticks out to me. To be honest with you, Doug,
- 28:59that's kind of crazy that he's that much higher than a guy like
- 29:03a, a Byron Buxton or Brent Roker, who's plus 1100.
- 29:07I mean, holy moly, what are we talking about here?
- 29:10That that is shocking to me. So I'm it might sound cliche,
- 29:14but I'm just going to go with the numbers here and I'm picking
- 29:16O'Neil Cruz because I think Vegas knows something that we
- 29:18don't. That's crazy.
- 29:21I'm I would take Brett Brooker. That's my dark horse.
- 29:25That's that's him. That's there's no bad bet.
- 29:29I mean, that's the best thing about the home run derbies with
- 29:31with the gambling is because there's no bad bet there.
- 29:34I mean, any of those guys can put on a show at any point.
- 29:39I I feel like that's the best thing about that.
- 29:41You can get the best betting odds during these type of
- 29:44things. I mean the the two top guys,
- 29:47Kyle Riley and O'Neil Cruz plus 3:30, that's three to 1 T of
- 29:51money. That's incredible.
- 29:53It's probably one of the most bad things probably throughout
- 29:55the year for. Baseball.
- 29:57Yeah, I would agree real quick on this one.
- 30:01You know the man there? He.
- 30:02Is. If you don't know him, Cubs
- 30:06outfield the PCAP Crow Armstrong.
- 30:09He became just the third player in baseball history to become a
- 30:12member of the 2525 club before the All Star break.
- 30:18I mean, again, we had talked about what Tucker brings to a
- 30:20lineup. I think you're watching it.
- 30:21I think this is it, man. He just makes everybody else
- 30:24around him. You know, Michael Bush is having
- 30:26a pretty good year. It's just he just is that good
- 30:31of a hitter that pitchers tend to focus more on him than
- 30:34others. And this is UC breakout and
- 30:36that's what you're seeing. Do I think he can keep it up?
- 30:40That's going to be tough. I don't know.
- 30:42Honestly, I thought he would have hit the hit the floor
- 30:45already and the fact that he has it, I don't know.
- 30:48I honestly have no idea. I mean, I, I think he, he will.
- 30:53I was always a, you know, a a doubter, but I don't know.
- 30:59I, I, I honestly, I don't know. I think he will though, if I had
- 31:02to say. I think he's going to keep it
- 31:06up. I, I think he's going to, I
- 31:08think he's got a great role model in Kyle Tucker.
- 31:10I mean, he's he's got good guys around him to lift him up.
- 31:15And we've known in the past too at PCA as he's been climbing the
- 31:19ladder and everything. There's been some viral clips of
- 31:21him and we know he's a competitor regardless, he he's
- 31:25going to be he's a very competitive guy.
- 31:28You can see it on the base pass and at the plate too.
- 31:30I think last year he had that ridiculous, you know, I think 15
- 31:35pitch at bat and AAA and crushed the home run.
- 31:38You can see him all jacked up and then he had that crazy slide
- 31:41to third base where he slid around the guy and he's got it
- 31:44all. You know, the most important
- 31:46thing for PCA is to stay healthy on the field and really just
- 31:50don't overthink it. Just keep doing what you're
- 31:52doing day in, day out. I think he's going to keep it
- 31:56up. I don't see any reason why he
- 31:58wouldn't. And if he did start going
- 32:00downhill, I think would be a very brief moment that he would.
- 32:04And that'd be to buy your your small window to buy him at a a
- 32:08lower point if maybe he does that.
- 32:10But I mean, hey, MVP candidate, it is what it is.
- 32:15So far, so far, all right, Last but not least, we had talked
- 32:20about this earlier. So with the MLB trade deadline
- 32:23approaching pretty quick, the Athletic release 10 players that
- 32:27they think will be dealt. Now this list is created with
- 32:31the most likely to the least likely of the 10.
- 32:34Here it is. Let's break it down one through
- 32:3610 for you, OK? Number one, you got Jared Duran
- 32:40#2. You got Bregman, Seth Lugo,
- 32:43Emmanuel Clause, Sandy, Ella, Ella, Catantra, Blah, Eugene,
- 32:50Eugeno Suarez, Willy Abreu, Johann Duran, Griffin Jax and
- 32:57Zach Gallon. It does surprise me they have 3
- 33:02Red Sox considering they're really only five games out.
- 33:05I think they're only like 3 1/2 out of the wild card.
- 33:09A little bit surprising, but I, I guess I get it.
- 33:13You know, Bregman, like we had talked about, I mean, he's going
- 33:16to opt out for sure that everybody's said that he's
- 33:21opting out. So he'll opt out.
- 33:23And if the Red Sox can't sign them to a long term deal, which
- 33:26they want to, then they're going to trade them and they're going
- 33:30to get what they can for them, which I get.
- 33:32I understand that the whole Jared Duran thing.
- 33:34I don't think they should. I think that's just crazy.
- 33:36I don't think they should. I think I think they have team
- 33:38control till 2028. So why would you trade a guy
- 33:41like that who he's not maybe producing as he was a couple
- 33:45years ago, but still a pretty solid hitter And and especially
- 33:49that that, you know, top of the order bat.
- 33:52I don't know, some of these names make sense, some of them
- 33:54don't. I mean, it it all, it depends,
- 33:56you know, It really does. Yeah, some of it does, some of
- 34:01it doesn't. I say maybe even half these
- 34:03names aren't going to get traded.
- 34:05I mean, Clause A is a pretty big name.
- 34:07I think the Indians are still somewhat competitive in the AL
- 34:12Central. I know Detroit's starting to to
- 34:14run a little bit, but yeah. And it's a lot of relievers,
- 34:18too. And for to have three Red Sox
- 34:20players, not including Chapman on here is a little surprising,
- 34:22too. I feel like he's the most likely
- 34:25on the team to get traded. I mean, he's older, but he's
- 34:27still 100 miles an hour lefty pitcher that a a competitive
- 34:31team would love to have on their team.
- 34:32So, yeah. But the Jared Duran thing, maybe
- 34:35he's just number one just because like his situation, you
- 34:39know, he's a little bit younger. He's got control over years.
- 34:42But the thing was with the Red Sox, though, they already got
- 34:45young guys. They already got a bunch of
- 34:47young guys that they're trying to move up here already.
- 34:48So it's like if you trade, you know, Jared Duran, you know,
- 34:52you're not going to just trade for, you know, top prospects or
- 34:55whatever because you already got them already.
- 34:57So it's like a it's, it's tough to say you're going to sell him.
- 35:01It's just might as well just hold and and see what happens
- 35:03next year and where the the progression is with Roman
- 35:06Anthony and Marcel Mayer. And let's see if we can make
- 35:09this work still with some of these guys that are going to be
- 35:11coming back next year that are on the contract.
- 35:13Alex Bregman, I totally understand it.
- 35:16I'm still holding out hope that he's going to maybe sign an
- 35:18extension, maybe in the office in the regular season here.
- 35:22It sounds like there was a little bit of talk, but I think,
- 35:25you know, obviously the smart move would be to walk and then
- 35:29redo your contract from there. Have more options, right?
- 35:32I know Detroit's looking at them.
- 35:34They, they want him bad over there, Doug.
- 35:36They want, they want Alex Bregman bad over there in
- 35:38Detroit. But yeah, the rest of the guys,
- 35:42they're they're going to pay too.
- 35:44They will pay him. They, they, I think the Red Sox
- 35:46came in at a little bigger price, you know, and that's why
- 35:49he went to Boston. But Detroit, they're, they're
- 35:51crossing their fingers. And then, yeah, I think the
- 35:55coolest name on here is Zach Allen at #10 right.
- 35:59Contract year, Arizona, who knows where they're going to go
- 36:04in what direction, you know, in the next couple weeks here.
- 36:07And Ben, Zach, and I could see him doing a nice change of
- 36:11scenery and just going somewhere and just dealing.
- 36:14You know, that could be for the Yankees, that could be maybe for
- 36:19Boston, probably not. I can see the Dodgers being
- 36:23potentially in that hunt there, which is kind of crazy because
- 36:27they're in a division. Maybe Houston adds A1.
- 36:30Imagine Houston, Houston kind of fits, right, because you get
- 36:35Houston's, you know, looking to win that division.
- 36:37And then on top of that, if you got a three pitcher series, you
- 36:40know, Hunter Brown, you got Valdez and then you throw in
- 36:43Gallon. I mean, I don't I feel like it
- 36:46fits like a glove. So yeah, that that's why in in
- 36:50again, these relievers, there's always going to be relievers
- 36:53moved at the dead deadline. They're always moving at the
- 36:55deadline. So no surprise really there,
- 36:57Doug. I will say with the Zach Gallon
- 37:00though, he he really is helping his own cause though.
- 37:02Like the way the his last three starts, he looks really good
- 37:06hitting that 9495, consistently pounding the zone, getting the
- 37:10strikeouts, those are up a lot. You know, I mean, 7-8 looks
- 37:16good. Glad to see him back.
- 37:18I nothing tells me he can't keep it up.
- 37:20He's he always never had a really arm troubles.
- 37:23He's kind of just a head case. I think that was his issue to be
- 37:26honest, the first couple months of the year.
- 37:28So I'm glad to see him turn it around.
- 37:30Hey, if the Red Sox do go out and they want to trade them and
- 37:33they trade like an Abreu for him and maybe try and sign them long
- 37:36term, not a bad, not a bad. You know him crochet as a 12 or
- 37:41something. I mean you got to do something.
- 37:43You're losing Giolito, who we're going to talk about later on,
- 37:46who is just looks lights out like he looks like he's made for
- 37:50Boston. If there if there was ever a
- 37:52pitcher, you know, we'll talk about his numbers and I I mean
- 37:55if they could re sign him, you know, which I don't I don't see
- 37:59why he wouldn't want to. You know, he already his first
- 38:01year, he didn't do anything for him.
- 38:02So maybe he thinks he owes him something.
- 38:04You know, maybe that's the mentality and you use that to
- 38:06your benefit and he signs, he signs, but you get him, you get
- 38:10crochet, you get a gallon. Yes, that's a really good 123
- 38:14right there. Dude, Jill here already said
- 38:17last week he doesn't. He doesn't want to go.
- 38:19He likes Boston, he likes it here.
- 38:22So I think that door is wide open for for a reunion next year
- 38:27for him to come back. And I think he's going to earn
- 38:29it too. I think he's going to earn that
- 38:30contract. Oh yeah, yeah.
- 38:33All right, so that was going around the league.
- 38:36Let's let's just dip right into the The Hurt Locker, right?
- 38:52All right, so these are some of the bigger injuries that have
- 38:55occurred in the last week, week and a half of baseball.
- 38:58I will run down this list. I think there's only six of
- 39:01them. We'll touch base.
- 39:03Mikey V will touch base on some. And then I'll just run down the
- 39:06the updates on some people that are still on the IL that would
- 39:09probably have a good impact on your line up or your roster.
- 39:13So first, Arizona starting pitcher Merrill Kelly, I know
- 39:16he's day-to-day. He experienced some right cap
- 39:19discomfort. He should make his next start.
- 39:22He's been having an issue with dehydration and that calf injury
- 39:26has taken him out of three games.
- 39:28So he either needs an IV or so, needs to drink some water or
- 39:32something because, I mean, he was pitching a gem.
- 39:35It's like a renaissance here. He's 36.
- 39:37He's seven and five. He's got 111 innings pitched.
- 39:40He's got 107 strikeouts, A34 ERA.
- 39:43He's giving you 11.5 points a start.
- 39:46He's ranked. He's a top 23 pitcher, believe
- 39:49it or not. Brave signing pitcher.
- 39:51Spencer's Hohenbach. He was placed on the 60 D IL.
- 39:53He's got an elbow fracture. He's unlucky to return to the
- 39:56rotation until September. So at this point I say shut him
- 40:00down. If they don't have anything to
- 40:01play for, there's no point in trying to push him.
- 40:03It's kind of silly. He was a top 20 pitcher before
- 40:06the injury. He was giving you 14.4 points a
- 40:08start, 110 innings pitched, 108 strikeout, 7 and four.
- 40:13He looked great. Astro shortstop Jeremy Pena, he
- 40:16was placed on A10D IL. He's got a small fracture on his
- 40:18rib. GM Dana Brown said that there's
- 40:21a small chance he could return for the break again.
- 40:24Similar. Don't rush it.
- 40:25You're in first. Let him get healthy.
- 40:28Give him that extra time, that extended rest with the break
- 40:31coming, Have him go out there, right.
- 40:34I think he was coming into his own this year, man 322, eleven
- 40:37home runs, 40 ribbies, 15 stolen bases.
- 40:40You know, only 55 strikeouts. He was giving you 2.9 a start.
- 40:44He was a top 7 shortstop. Awesome.
- 40:49You got Dodgers third baseman Max Muncie.
- 40:51He's on the 10 day IL. He's got a bone bruise on his
- 40:53knee. He injured it trying to steal a
- 40:54base. If you ever see Max Muncie run,
- 40:56you would completely understand why this happened.
- 40:59They're looking at a mid August return, so about a month, maybe
- 41:03a month and 1/2 or so four to six weeks.
- 41:07He was averaging 1.7 earlier this year.
- 41:10He's turned it around. He's having 2.6 to start.
- 41:12He's got 13 homers, 55 ribbies, 69 strikeouts, hitting, yeah,
- 41:17only 250. But again, really turned on the
- 41:20home runs. Twins outfielder Byron Bucks,
- 41:23and he's day-to-day after being hit by a pitch on his left hand
- 41:26near his pinky finger. X-rays were negative.
- 41:28He's still day-to-day. The injury, it's making him
- 41:31tough for him to swing a bat. So I'm thinking maybe a couple
- 41:33more days before he gets in that lineup, maybe Sunday, maybe
- 41:37tomorrow, who knows. And you hate to see this because
- 41:40Buxton is a streaky guy. He is the epitome of a streak.
- 41:45Him and Max Muncie at this point.
- 41:47He was giving you a great year as far as fantasy numbers are
- 41:51concerned. 27020 homers, 53 Really.
- 41:53Sixty runs, seventeen stolen bases, 85 strikeouts, 3.3 a
- 41:58start, which is really good. That's Juan Soto was giving you
- 42:013.3. And then last but not least,
- 42:03Yankees starting pitcher Clark Schmidt is officially out for
- 42:06the year for having Tommy John, which is crazy.
- 42:09So he will probably miss all of next year as well.
- 42:12So you're looking at a year and a half, 18 months, which is the
- 42:16regular time frame. I mean, his numbers were really
- 42:19good. You know, obviously his win loss
- 42:22doesn't show that He was 4 and 478 and he's pitched 73
- 42:25strikeouts, 3, three ERA, gave you almost 10 points a start.
- 42:30So it's a quality arm that you're going to have to replace
- 42:33in your roster for sure. But these are the the bigger
- 42:37impacted IL stints that have recently hit the IL.
- 42:42Yeah, let's let's start with the worst one.
- 42:44I think it's probably Spencer swelling block from a fantasy
- 42:47perspective, just because like you said, W's going to be out
- 42:50till September. If the Braves are, you know,
- 42:53falling behind in that division kind of like they already are
- 42:55already this year, why bring them back?
- 42:58So, you know, I'm an owner of Spencer Swalenbach.
- 43:01I'm holding on to him for now, but I'll I'll probably end up
- 43:04dropping them to be honest, because I don't want to fill an
- 43:07IL spot with someone that I don't know who's going to
- 43:09actually come back and help me this year.
- 43:11So it's a tough loss. I mean, if he does miss the rest
- 43:15of the year, at least we'll be 100% next year going into it.
- 43:19It's not like it's a Tommy John or anything like that.
- 43:21So kind of a disappointment. So you're going to have to make
- 43:25a pivot for sure with there. I mean, Brad Elder had a pretty
- 43:28good start last outing, but that's not a guy that it's going
- 43:31to replace a special Swollenbach whatsoever.
- 43:33You don't know what he's going to do.
- 43:35All the time. Merrill Kelly Like you said,
- 43:38Doug, you want a top 23 pitcher, that's your boy.
- 43:41Yeah. I picked him up, he's a free
- 43:45agent pickup and he's been nothing but good.
- 43:49Nothing but good. A few, no decisions here and
- 43:51there, but for the most part he looks really good.
- 43:54Really. Really.
- 43:55Those are the might like your favorite guys when you pick them
- 43:58up and they just become studs and they become a staple.
- 44:02You know, Jacob Wilson this year, you know that's a guy
- 44:05that's just became a staple in people's line up because of how
- 44:07good he was in the first half of the year.
- 44:10We'll see if he continues that, but from pitching perspective,
- 44:12Merrill Kelly's that guy for you.
- 44:15So hopefully he gets back to the mountain sooner or later.
- 44:17Like you said, just put an IV in him for Christ's sake.
- 44:19Sounds like he just needs some some hydration.
- 44:21So unless he's just, you know, logging after the the games, you
- 44:25know. But.
- 44:26Who knows nowadays. But moving on though, Jeremy
- 44:30Penny, like you said, breakout year, right?
- 44:32Really having a really good solid overall round year 15
- 44:36stolen bases. Wow, I did not see that coming.
- 44:41And the next Muncie, you know, up and down season, kind of
- 44:44fantasy, irrelevant in a lot of aspects.
- 44:46Like you said, very streaky guy. You know, kind of an option, I
- 44:49guess to say maybe be rosterable if he's on that streak.
- 44:53Obviously you plug him in, but you probably already have
- 44:57another third baseman that you can already sub with him.
- 44:59So hopefully it's not too big of a loss for people's teams.
- 45:03Byron Buxton, like you say, he's putting up soda numbers this
- 45:06year. This guy is about to go 3030 all
- 45:10of a sudden, so pretty cool, but hopefully he comes back from the
- 45:13hand injury early. I know it's swelling.
- 45:15So I think he's just waiting for some of that swelling to go
- 45:17down, get a better handle on that bat and then that way he
- 45:20can move forward. And then last but not least, you
- 45:23know, another one bites the dust.
- 45:24TJ Clark Schmidt tough this was kind of a breakout year or I
- 45:31shouldn't say breakout year. I should say his first like real
- 45:35professional year, right? We saw him last year.
- 45:38We knew he was coming up from AAA to the majors.
- 45:40We saw what stuff he definitely had.
- 45:42This guy has strike up caliber stuff and this year was really
- 45:46his first Test. Like you said, he had a three 3
- 45:48ERA. That's that's a really good ERA.
- 45:50That's roster bowl in a lot of fantasy leagues.
- 45:53So it's a little disappointing to see him hit that.
- 45:55IL going to Tommy John. He's going to miss all next
- 45:58year. Kind of like in that same Jared
- 45:59Jones boat where you just have two young guys that were were
- 46:03fun to watch and now they're going to obviously miss, you
- 46:07know, not one but probably two seasons now.
- 46:10So yeah, hopefully he gets back, you know, sooner than later.
- 46:13Hope it goes well. Not too many setbacks and you
- 46:16know, we see him back on the mound soon.
- 46:17But what are you going to do to replace them?
- 46:19That's the next question. Who's a free agent at this point
- 46:22right now that you can go after? My suggestion would be look at
- 46:26the top prospects. You know, we're going into the
- 46:28second-half. We're going to need some more
- 46:30innings eaters going into some of these situations and some of
- 46:33these teams. So you're going to start seeing
- 46:35some prospects get called up. Maybe they're not the number one
- 46:38or two, but they're going to give you innings down the road.
- 46:41And again, you don't know. It's a mixed bag sometimes, but
- 46:44sometimes I'd rather take a chance on those guys than maybe
- 46:47the guys that are already free agents like a an elder like I
- 46:50mentioned earlier, because sometimes those young guys come
- 46:54up like that kid from Milwaukee. Holy moly, he, he's been smoking
- 46:59lately. What was it, Jacob?
- 47:03Murzynski. Yeah, yeah, he he seems like.
- 47:06Is. That what his nickname is.
- 47:09Wow. I mean, how how can you not love
- 47:13that? So yeah, sometimes you'd rather
- 47:15just take a chance on some of those guys.
- 47:18Like I said, Joe Boyle, we know he's going to be potentially
- 47:22coming in, you know, as a long reliever.
- 47:24So if the Rays are up to nothing, it's the second inning
- 47:27and he comes in the third inning, now he's all of a sudden
- 47:30in life for a win, right? I mean, it's a cheap, cheap
- 47:33points, but you could still make it work for you, especially if
- 47:37he does what he did in AAA. That guy's a stud.
- 47:40I'm I'm a fan. You sounded man.
- 47:43That's like the third. Shot.
- 47:45I know, I know because he's finally back up.
- 47:48We know what the game plan is. And it's different with the Rays
- 47:51because usually a lot of those guys just go right back in the
- 47:53rotation, make it a six man rotation or something like that
- 47:56to just add him into it. But instead they're like, no,
- 47:59actually you're going to be our long guy out of the bullpen.
- 48:02And I kind of like that because you're also limiting his innings
- 48:06by doing that. You're not trying to stretch him
- 48:07out by any means, so you kind of have a little bit more
- 48:10flexibility with that and there's no pressure of just
- 48:12going out there, starting a game and then trying to go 5 or 6
- 48:15innings because you're trying to go as long as you can before you
- 48:18get to the bullpen. So I like that.
- 48:20I like that strategy. It's different.
- 48:22I don't think a lot of teams do it, especially with their top
- 48:24prospect pitchers like what Joe Boyle is in their organization.
- 48:28But I, I just have to mention it.
- 48:31I just think it's so unique and I think it's I think it's going
- 48:34to be good for him and I think it's going to be good for
- 48:36fantasy owners too. Last one, he went five innings,
- 48:39I think 7 KS and and one or two earned runs, if that.
- 48:42I might even be making that up. It might be 0 for all I know.
- 48:45I know it was definitely five and seven and he got the win.
- 48:48So it's an interesting investment, that's all I'm
- 48:51saying. I like that.
- 48:53Well, let me go over the updates because there are some people
- 48:55that might be free agents that are actually coming back from
- 48:58rehab that you could potentially pick up.
- 49:01And actually, one of them is not on here that I did pick up in
- 49:03our league. Luis Garcia, starting pitcher
- 49:06from the Astros. He should be coming back I think
- 49:09in a week. Actually, he might even be
- 49:11pitching the end of this week. I forget.
- 49:14I have to look. But he was a free agent.
- 49:16Like, you know, he's coming back.
- 49:18He looked good. Pretty good rehab outing.
- 49:21I think he did three rehab stints in AAA, look good.
- 49:24He's probably not owned. Another guy on this list that I
- 49:27have here is is Yankees starting pitcher Louise Gill.
- 49:31All right, he threw 42 pitches. A live BP session Tuesday.
- 49:34Could probably begin a rehab assignment.
- 49:36They're saying Sunday, which means he'll be back after the
- 49:39All Star break. Hey, you lose a Clark Schmidt,
- 49:41you replace him with a Louise Gill.
- 49:43Same team. There you go.
- 49:46Other other players, these people are probably owned, But
- 49:50let me run down this real quick. Red starting pitcher, Hunter
- 49:53Green, he was supposed to begin a rehab assignment on Wednesday
- 49:56that was cancelled because he experienced soreness in that
- 49:59same area, that right groin he had that he strained.
- 50:02So he's just going to just continue to do a rehab program.
- 50:05So I don't even know when he's going to start his rehab
- 50:08assignment. Dodger starting pitcher Blake
- 50:10Snell, he began a rehab assignment yesterday at Triple
- 50:13AI. Actually don't have those
- 50:14numbers in front of me because I didn't see him on the article.
- 50:17But he did begin a rehab assignment, which tells me a
- 50:19little after the All Star break. You're going to be able to put
- 50:21them in your line up. Baltimore catcher Adly Rushman,
- 50:25he's heating off a tee. He's expected to be back shortly
- 50:27after the All Star break. Red Sox third baseman Alex
- 50:31Bregman, he completed another comprehensive workout that
- 50:33included baseball activities, which tells me he's going to be
- 50:38back sooner rather than later. They're saying he could just
- 50:41skip rehab, forgo it and and just go right back into the
- 50:45lineup when he gets back. And if he does that, he'll be
- 50:48back this weekend, if not after the all stop break.
- 50:51So I don't know how they're going to play with him, but they
- 50:54do have options. We had talked about this before
- 50:57the show, Tampa Bay starting pitcher Shane Mccullahan, he
- 51:00began a minor league rehab assignment Tuesday.
- 51:03He threw 2 scoreless innings. It was rookie level ball look
- 51:06good again a little after the All Star break.
- 51:09You'd be able to plug them in your roster.
- 51:11And last but not least, Royal starting pitcher Cole Raggins.
- 51:15He was moved to the 60 DIL, meaning that he is not going to
- 51:17return until at least mid August.
- 51:21They're saying. So if he drafted him early
- 51:24hoping he was going to be a pitcher like he was last year,
- 51:28you're unfortunately you need to start pivoting.
- 51:32Yeah, I mean, everyone except Cole Ragan sounds like they're
- 51:35on their way back, right? And those are the guys that you
- 51:37did stash on the IL hoping they're going to come back
- 51:40sooner than later. So sounds like a lot of those
- 51:42guys are going to come back. Doug, I got a question for you
- 51:46and it it's got to do with Bregman.
- 51:48So we we've known Bregman's been out for a little bit right now.
- 51:52He's been out for over clearly over a month and he's doing
- 51:56baseball activities. And I know teams go to the
- 51:58ballpark early, they get their stretches in, they get their
- 52:00bats in, they got their practice and everything right.
- 52:05Do you find it odd that he's coming right back without a
- 52:07rehab assignment, even even with like just a few games?
- 52:11Do you do you find that a little interesting?
- 52:15Are you trying to say that they maybe want to showcase him as a
- 52:20trade candidate before the deadline, hence he skips the
- 52:23minor league rehab? I'm sniffing right through the
- 52:26lineup. Is that what you're trying to
- 52:27tell? Me, right, I'm sniffing that.
- 52:32I'm honestly I would probably if I like as a fan, I'd rather see
- 52:36him do the rehab in in minor league during the break and then
- 52:39come back and just put him right in the lineup first day back
- 52:42after the all stop break. To me, that makes sense.
- 52:45I don't know why he's pushing himself.
- 52:47I, I, I get it, right? He's going to opt out.
- 52:50He's going to want more money like he's he wants to prove
- 52:53himself because he's playing for a bigger contract is what he's
- 52:55doing. I don't.
- 52:57I feel like that might hurt him more than it might help him, You
- 53:00know, I don't know. I I find it interesting.
- 53:03Yeah, I just I agree with you what you said too exactly that I
- 53:06would have done the same exact thing.
- 53:08So I just find it interesting a little, I guess maybe that idea
- 53:12of him getting traded, I guess there's a little bit more out
- 53:16there than I originally thought. But yeah, the foreseeing the the
- 53:21rehab is interesting in my opinion.
- 53:22It's all. Awesome.
- 53:26All right, man. So we yeah, we just went over
- 53:29some of the some good pickups you could probably plug into
- 53:31your lineup that are coming back soon, maybe fill in some of
- 53:34those roster spots, roster spots that you, if you had Clark
- 53:37Schmidt, you're going to need somebody to fill that in.
- 53:40Why not take a, you know, roll the dice with, you know, former
- 53:45ALROY and Luis Gill and, you know, roll the dice with that
- 53:51or, or Luis Garcia, right. I mean both really good
- 53:55pitchers. So let's take a quick break.
- 53:58We'll come back, we'll talk hottest hitters and pitchers,
- 54:02coldest hitters and pitchers for last week and then some really
- 54:05good sell high, buy low candidates for your team to help
- 54:09you get over that playoff push that's coming up a lot sooner
- 54:13than you might you might think. So don't go anywhere.
- 54:17We're going to be right back. You're going back in. damn.
- 54:33When I go home, people ask me. Hey, who?
- 54:39Why do you do it, man? Wow, some kind of war junkie.
- 54:46I won't say a goddamn word. What they won't understand.
- 54:52They won't understand why we do it.
- 54:58They won't understand it's about the men next to you.
- 55:04And that's it. That's all it is.

- 55:20Remember, this is all about having fun and enjoying the
- 55:22ride. And now the guys you just love
- 55:25to hate. Trash.
- 55:26It's it's. It's.
- 55:29Man, it's a justified. Man, it's a man It's, it's not.
- 55:33Doug and Mike are back with more bourbon and ball.
- 55:50man. One of the favorite.
- 55:51Segments of the week love this. Two hottest hitters, 2 hottest
- 55:56pitchers of last week in a points league, which probably
- 55:58translate into any other format. Like we have said earlier.
- 56:02And without further ado, here they are some surprise, some
- 56:07don't let me run over, go over the the two hitters and then
- 56:12some honorable mentions Mikey V. You could take it away and then
- 56:15we'll bring it back and do the pictures.
- 56:17So, and I got to say this guy's been on fire.
- 56:21Jose Ramirez, third baseman Guardians, He got you 17 points
- 56:25the last two days yesterday and the day before.
- 56:29He's 99.9% own for the week. 364 four homers, 7 ribby, seven
- 56:36runs, four stolen bases, 2 strikeouts, 45 points. 7 1/2 a
- 56:40start. And then a guy that we had said
- 56:43by low on right Astros second base outfield DH Hosea Tube
- 56:48897.2% owned hit four O 9 give you 3 homers, 12 ribby, seven
- 56:54runs, no stolen bases, 1 strikeout, 42 points. 7A start.
- 57:00Some honorable mentions. Here's here's a wild 1.
- 57:03You had Michael Bush, you had Rafaela, you had Trevor Story
- 57:06all give you 38 points last week as well.
- 57:10So those are your hottest hitters from Friday.
- 57:14To Wednesday. Night.
- 57:19Rafaela huh? Wow, didn't.
- 57:21See that coming? Yeah, I mean.
- 57:24Like I talked about with Soto. Earlier, right.
- 57:27We have such a high expectation for him.
- 57:28So when he has a season like he has, it's kind of been a, you
- 57:31know, a disappointment, quote UN quote.
- 57:33You can kind of stay the same with Jose Ramirez, except he's
- 57:36still putting up the numbers and this week was kind of like his
- 57:39big breakout week. I feel like that's the vintage
- 57:42Jose Ramirez that we know and love that why he's drafted top
- 57:46five every year. So great to see him back on this
- 57:49list and staying healthy. And then now you got Jose
- 57:52Attube. We talked about him a couple
- 57:54times and it looks like he's finally gotten into his groove,
- 57:58which is great to see. And that's why Houston, they're
- 58:00they're holding on to that first place they got to.
- 58:03They got to continue this with Jose Altuve too, because Texas
- 58:06is starting to wake up a little bit as well.
- 58:08So, but regardless, Jose Altuve, great to see it happen.
- 58:14And then you said Michael Bush, right?
- 58:16I mean, that guy crushed me when I played against him last week.
- 58:23It is what it is. It's just those guys.
- 58:25That you kind of run into. It's a juggernaut.
- 58:26He's not really highly presentingly owned either.
- 58:30He's just one of those streaky guys that plays in a really good
- 58:32lineup. Definitely bench material, but
- 58:36if you need that corner position or maybe you have a first
- 58:38baseman that's hurt right now, not a bad substitute to have.
- 58:41Also a matchups guy, too, playing in that NL Central.
- 58:45And then Trevor Story, I mean, this talk about a streaky
- 58:47hitter, huh? I feel like it's like one week
- 58:50he's crushing it. The other week he's he's back to
- 58:53the Trevor story that we know and love by striking out a lot.
- 58:57He does strike out still a pretty good amount, but when he
- 59:00is hitting the ball, he's hitting home runs, he's hitting
- 59:03double s and he hits 5th and 6th in that line up.
- 59:06He's going to have RBI opportunities.
- 59:07It seems like every time he gets to the plate.
- 59:09So, you know, from a fantasy perspective, he's taken
- 59:12advantage of it. And, you know, as a Red Sox fan,
- 59:15it's nice to see two guys that are on the hot list on this for
- 59:18once. I don't think we talked about a
- 59:20lot of Red Sox hitters being on this list.
- 59:21So refreshing. Yeah, I got to say I got.
- 59:26Ahead of the Trevor. Story hot streak I picked him up
- 59:29a couple weeks ago and started him last week ended up hitting a
- 59:32couple home runs for me it's good to see that yeah I mean I
- 59:36still think it's a horrible sign, but it's.
- 59:41I guess it's all right to see. You know, it's, I guess it's not
- 59:45that bad when you're seeing them at least produced once in a
- 59:47while. But as far as now, let's go into
- 59:51the pictures and this, some of these are pretty surprising.
- 59:56So we had talked about Luis Giolito, Lucas Giolito, excuse
- 1:00:01me, Red Sox starting pitcher. He's only 43% owned, right?
- 1:00:05What a monster week. Actually, I, I, he's five and
- 1:00:08oh, in his last six starts, that and, and those came against, you
- 1:00:11know, Tampa Bay, Seattle, a red hot Toronto who was nine and
- 1:00:14one. Like he's, he's been on fire
- 1:00:18this past week. He was two and oh, he played in
- 1:00:21Colorado and then he was home against Toronto.
- 1:00:24Two and O 15 innings pitched, 8 strikeouts, four walks, only one
- 1:00:28earned. Gave you 44.2 points.
- 1:00:32What a like great good, really good for him.
- 1:00:38White Sox. Relief pitcher.
- 1:00:39Starting pitcher. Adrian Hauser.
- 1:00:43You might know him from the Brewers days.
- 1:00:45Yeah, I didn't even know he played for the White Sox, if I
- 1:00:48had to be honest with you. 22% owed for some that reason.
- 1:00:54I don't know that 22% is, but good for them.
- 1:00:58He went to an O 1515 innings, 8 strikeouts, four walks, one in
- 1:01:0444.2 points and then a couple honorable mentions.
- 1:01:07You had Cubs starting pitcher Con, right?
- 1:01:09He gave you 43. Brian Wu gave you 37.
- 1:01:13That's a no decision that he got yesterday.
- 1:01:16Imagine if he got the win and maybe even a no hit.
- 1:01:19I mean now you're talking about him giving you like 60 points
- 1:01:22and then Zach Wheeler gave you 37.
- 1:01:25So not really many surprises. I'd say the the ones that are
- 1:01:29honorable mentions aren't surprises, but the ones that
- 1:01:31actually made the list are, if that makes sense.
- 1:01:34It does make sense and and Lucas Gigolito.
- 1:01:37'S really starting to find his groove, right?
- 1:01:38He's really starting to hit his drive at the Red Sox.
- 1:01:41He's staying healthy. He's consistent.
- 1:01:44You know, I watched that game against the Nationals.
- 1:01:45I think that was the 4th of July game.
- 1:01:48And he looked terrific. You know, he looked awesome in
- 1:01:51it. And he just controlled the whole
- 1:01:52entire game. I know it's a younger Washington
- 1:01:55team, but you still have to do it for six innings.
- 1:01:57And and he definitely did. And they're they're professional
- 1:01:59hitters, too, you know what I mean?
- 1:02:01And yeah, Hauser, yeah, I'm kind of right behind you on that.
- 1:02:04Doug didn't know he played the White Sox.
- 1:02:08They're just not in my vocabulary this year.
- 1:02:10I guess I'm just not not even. It makes it a little easier to
- 1:02:13remember everyone else and every other team but the White Sox is
- 1:02:16really any. There's no one relevant, so I I
- 1:02:19just have honestly no knowledge at all about the White Sox,
- 1:02:23which is wild. But let's talk.
- 1:02:27About Brandon Roux for a second. Well, Brian Roux, excuse me, not
- 1:02:29Brandon. Brian Roux, man, what's that?
- 1:02:33Really, really kind of like the unsung hero this year for that
- 1:02:36Seattle rotation through and through.
- 1:02:38Didn't get her. Made the All Star game, first
- 1:02:41All Star game of his career. Like you said, he had those,
- 1:02:44those no hit innings yesterday. Could have got the win.
- 1:02:48He would have been top, top guy. Probably he would be.
- 1:02:50We'll be talking about him more on this feature and then you
- 1:02:54have Zach Wheeler. I believe that was the complete
- 1:02:58game that he had there. One hitter, right, One hitter I.
- 1:03:03Mean the guy's just. OG at this point where I know
- 1:03:06he's not old but man he's just the guy.
- 1:03:09He is top three pitcher in the league hands down, no questions
- 1:03:13asked. He and he might be the best for
- 1:03:15all I can say. Didn't he win Cy Young last
- 1:03:18year? Yeah, I believe he did.
- 1:03:23Yeah, and and you know both those.
- 1:03:24Guys, you know, scuba and him right back where they left off
- 1:03:28last year. Really nice to see for both of
- 1:03:30them. But yeah, and Zach Wheeler
- 1:03:32complete game. Like that's just vintage Zach
- 1:03:34right there. So awesome to see him on this
- 1:03:36list. And then who else did he have
- 1:03:38any calling Ray? Wow, what a throwback, huh?
- 1:03:40Calling Ray, Remember, I remember when he got called up
- 1:03:43back in the day, We, we thought, well, I thought he was going to
- 1:03:45be a little something more than what he has been.
- 1:03:47But I mean, I, I fall off that trap every year.
- 1:03:52Do that all the time. Well, look.
- 1:03:55He he finally made well, he made he's.
- 1:03:57I will mention, right, he's living up to your expectations
- 1:04:00right now, Mike. It only took him about seven
- 1:04:02years. I do want to touch base on.
- 1:04:08Giulio real quick and I know we, you know, we talk.
- 1:04:11I don't want to beat the wars, but I got to tell you, man, if
- 1:04:14if they lose this guy and they don't re sign them, they're
- 1:04:18they're going to be tough out of luck.
- 1:04:20You know, you're losing Walker Buehler, who you know, might not
- 1:04:24be the biggest loss ever, you know, but Lucas Giolito, him and
- 1:04:29and Crochet right now are kind of carrying that team, you know,
- 1:04:32and if you don't have them there, it's it's going to hurt.
- 1:04:36You man, it is going to hurt. You, like I said, I'd, I'd love
- 1:04:38to get, you know, re sign him and then at the trade deadline,
- 1:04:41maybe do something with, with the Diamondbacks, if you can get
- 1:04:45one of those guys. You know, I know they're
- 1:04:48shopping Merrill Kelly too, but I'm not going to waste up trade
- 1:04:52somebody for a 36 year old pitcher.
- 1:04:54You know, I mean, Gimme gallon. Still late 20s, early 30s, still
- 1:04:58got something in the tank. That's who I probably would
- 1:05:01trade for. I don't know man.
- 1:05:04I, I it's it's. Weird because at this point in
- 1:05:06the trade deadline, you're, it's, it's always tough when
- 1:05:10you're in the middle, like you don't know if you're going to
- 1:05:12make it. You don't know if you're not.
- 1:05:14If you're not, you're trading away.
- 1:05:16You're building for next year. If you are, you know, you're
- 1:05:19trading away and building for now.
- 1:05:21So you're getting veterans, you know, so it's tough.
- 1:05:24It's a tough thing to gauge. And I think for them it makes
- 1:05:28more sense if you're if you're just on that cusp to trade a
- 1:05:31player that is MLB ready that you can play now, you know, that
- 1:05:36can go out and help you. And I think a gallon is fits
- 1:05:39that bill. You know, he's a guy you can
- 1:05:40trade and throw him in your rotation.
- 1:05:42I know a lot of times if you're selling, you're you're getting
- 1:05:46back prospects, right? That's you're trying to rebuild
- 1:05:50your organization. If you're the Red Sox and you're
- 1:05:52selling, why not try to sell for MLB talent that's current MLB
- 1:05:57talent and you can put them in your lineup this year, maybe
- 1:06:00extend them and maybe keep them there for another four or five.
- 1:06:05I don't know. I get crazy ideas, supporters.
- 1:06:07When I drink bourbon, you know, I don't think it's crazy.
- 1:06:10I think that's, I think that's. Some straight talk you just had
- 1:06:12there. I think that's you need
- 1:06:15stability and the Red Sox, they can have stability with Derrick
- 1:06:19Crochet and Lucas Giolito as you'll one too and then you
- 1:06:23build from there. I don't think that's crazy.
- 1:06:25Now you got something like you said, for the next 4 years, you
- 1:06:28got two guys are going to be your veterans moving forward.
- 1:06:31Really, you know, they're not old guys, but by the time they
- 1:06:35get to the end of their contracts, they're going to have
- 1:06:37some wisdom for sure. So I I I don't hate it.
- 1:06:40I don't hate it. I think a lot of.
- 1:06:41Teams should go that route, Yeah, I mean it'll.
- 1:06:45Definitely, definitely. Be interesting to see what
- 1:06:48happens and who actually does get traded because I mean, you
- 1:06:51see it all the time where you know so and so is going to get
- 1:06:54traded. They never do.
- 1:06:55So it definitely would be interesting.
- 1:06:57All right, so let's go on the flip side of that and let's talk
- 1:07:00about some of the cold hitters and pitchers.
- 1:07:03And I think this might even be the first time this guy's ever
- 1:07:06made this list whatsoever. You know who he is, Freddie.
- 1:07:12Freeman, we talked. About him a couple weeks ago as
- 1:07:16a bi lo and. Man, he looks lost, He.
- 1:07:23Does and I feel bad for him. I think he's still recovering
- 1:07:26from that ankle injury. You know, he got into a group,
- 1:07:29then he heard it again and then now it's like, I mean, let me
- 1:07:32let me go over the numbers and then we can talk about a little
- 1:07:34more. Same thing with Jackson Merrill.
- 1:07:37So you got Dodgers first base Freddie Freeman, 99.8% owned,
- 1:07:41the closest thing to 100 you'll get in an ESPN league.
- 1:07:44That and 1:36 on the week, no homers, no ribbies, no runs.
- 1:07:48Gave you a stolen base, 11 strikeouts, 11 strikeouts.
- 1:07:51For a guy who usually doesn't strike out, he's a contact
- 1:07:54hitter -5 points on the week. And then Padres outfielder
- 1:07:58Jackson Merrill, 89% owned. He was 98% that.
- 1:08:02So that just goes to tell you how much faith owners are losing
- 1:08:05.038, no homers, A ribby, two runs, 9 strikeouts, and -2
- 1:08:11points. Couple honorable mentions.
- 1:08:13Riley Green, who we had always said is an inconsistent guy, he
- 1:08:17gave a -2 this week. And Brian Reynolds, who I know
- 1:08:21is only 54% owned right now, he was in the 90s.
- 1:08:24He gave you -6 and the only reason I didn't put them on the
- 1:08:29Who's hot list is because I like to put people that are 70% or
- 1:08:31more currently. But I did want to give an
- 1:08:33honorable mention to him because he was at one point almost 90%
- 1:08:36owned because he did have a hot streak at the beginning of the
- 1:08:38year -6 So those are the guys. Yeah, yeah, Freddie Friedman.
- 1:08:45Let's talk about him. For a second, right, A lot of
- 1:08:47conversation with him about the last couple weeks.
- 1:08:51This reminds me a little bit now I don't want to believe it.
- 1:08:55That's the first thing I want to say to you, Doug.
- 1:08:57I don't want to believe this is happening to Freddie Friedman
- 1:08:59because can I can I, can I? I just.
- 1:09:02Think I know what you're going to say?
- 1:09:04Can I think I, can I say it for a second?
- 1:09:07You you say what I'm going to say and I'll.
- 1:09:09Go in more detail about what I'm going to say that you're going
- 1:09:12to say it right now. You think that he's.
- 1:09:15Not he's like on that fall like Goldie was.
- 1:09:20Are you going to compare him to Goldschmidt?
- 1:09:22I just pulled up both their baseball references.
- 1:09:25There's no way. See.
- 1:09:27See the the. I love it.
- 1:09:29I love it. I already knew.
- 1:09:31I already knew you knew. So I'm looking at Paul
- 1:09:33Goldschmidt. He's 37 years old right now.
- 1:09:36Freddie Friedman is 35, OK. But during his 35 year old
- 1:09:41season, that's where we saw that humongous dip when he was with
- 1:09:45Saint Louis. And I think the biggest
- 1:09:47outlining number, it's not a number I like to use all the
- 1:09:50time, but a lot of people love to use it.
- 1:09:52It's the war number that really tells you how.
- 1:09:54Productive you really. Are in that that team, whether
- 1:09:57it's defense, offense all together runs above
- 1:09:59replacements, right? He dropped from 7.7 from 2022
- 1:10:05down in the 3.3 in 2023. So that was his 34 going to his
- 1:10:1235 year, right? And now if I go over to Freddie
- 1:10:16Freeman, same kind of thing. You can kind of see it a little
- 1:10:21bit already that 34, so 33, he was 6.8 last year he was at 4.7.
- 1:10:28This year he's down at 1.8. So that cut and that thing that
- 1:10:34it's almost the same pattern as Goldschmidt as you're looking
- 1:10:36down bull all these years. And again, I'll start it off
- 1:10:41like I said, I don't want to believe it.
- 1:10:42I don't think, I still think Freddie has nothing to take.
- 1:10:45I think he has a lot to play for.
- 1:10:47I think they know they're going to be deep into this run like we
- 1:10:49always say almost every week about this Dodger team.
- 1:10:53So they can be more capital moving forward with some of
- 1:10:55these guys like a Freddie. We talked about it earlier in
- 1:10:58the week. He needs to break.
- 1:11:00He needs, he needs this week off more than anyone I think in the
- 1:11:03league right now because he's not playing to his caliber.
- 1:11:07He knows he needs to be better, especially going into the
- 1:11:10playoff run 100. Percent agree If there was, If
- 1:11:14there's. A player that needs this break
- 1:11:17he's he's top of the list. He's he is better than this.
- 1:11:21I can't remember the last time he struck out 11 times in a
- 1:11:23week. I really can't you know the
- 1:11:26beginning of the year he was on fire, right?
- 1:11:29He just he got his surgery went. Well, in the offseason.
- 1:11:33He came back, he was saying like 360 like he was a a top two
- 1:11:37first baseman in fantasy for the first month of the year.
- 1:11:40Guy slips in the shower re aggravates the injury.
- 1:11:44And then the last probably month, I would say at least four
- 1:11:47or five weeks. He's just a shell.
- 1:11:51I don't know what it is. I don't know what they're doing.
- 1:11:54I think that that lineup was just so talented.
- 1:11:56That play was really, it surprises me.
- 1:11:58I play a struggle in it, you know what I mean?
- 1:11:59Because you got you're surrounded by Otani, you're
- 1:12:01surrounded by monkey bats. Like these guys are studs.
- 1:12:05And you always talk about protection in a lineup.
- 1:12:08Like these guys are so good. They all protect each other, you
- 1:12:11know? So when you have a Freddy
- 1:12:13Freeman that gives you 11 strikeouts, something's wrong.
- 1:12:17You got to say something's wrong.
- 1:12:18So I totally agree. This guy needs to break more
- 1:12:21than anybody. Yeah.
- 1:12:24Yeah. So hopefully.
- 1:12:25He makes it because, you know, we obviously made a trade about
- 1:12:29a week ago and we, you know, we don't want to, we don't want to
- 1:12:33root against each other. You know, we want to be both
- 1:12:35successful. But yeah, that that I don't
- 1:12:38know. But I don't know what's going to
- 1:12:39happen with Fred. But we're going to root for him,
- 1:12:40though. But you and I both.
- 1:12:41I think I screwed myself in that trade, but.
- 1:12:44You know, it's, it's so it's tough because.
- 1:12:47This is the best, the lowest you're ever going to get a guy
- 1:12:49like Freddie Freeman if he does come back.
- 1:12:51But you, we got to see it. We got to see it from him first.
- 1:12:55But anyway, look at the numbers. Like everything points to either
- 1:12:59an IL stint or he needs time off.
- 1:13:02That's what it points to. Hopefully, like you said, this
- 1:13:04time off is what he needs. But if it's not and you're
- 1:13:08trading for him, and yeah, you're right, you're absolutely
- 1:13:10right. This is the lowest you'll ever
- 1:13:12get of Freddie Freeman, without a doubt.
- 1:13:14Absolutely. If he hits an.
- 1:13:16IL stint. And then, you know, who knows
- 1:13:19what's going to happen? I, I know he's, he's a, he's a
- 1:13:22player. He's a baseball player.
- 1:13:23He wants to go out there every day.
- 1:13:24He's a competitor like you always say, right?
- 1:13:26He is a Mr. Baseball like Tom Selleck throwback, right?
- 1:13:30He but he needs he needs to relax, man.
- 1:13:34He's always 35 years old, like you know.
- 1:13:36If you need the time off, tell Dave Roberts.
- 1:13:40And take the time off. No need to go out there and
- 1:13:42prove yourself anymore. I mean, you're a cusp Hall of
- 1:13:45Famer, you've got 2 World Series rings, you won with the Braves
- 1:13:49and then you came to the Dodgers.
- 1:13:51You know, there's, there's no need to push yourself like
- 1:13:53relax, take care of yourself first.
- 1:13:56Hopefully comes out of the break and he's good to go.
- 1:13:59Hopefully I I. Agree.
- 1:14:01I agree. And then you got you got Jacks
- 1:14:04Romero right next to him here, man, that is a that is a piss
- 1:14:07poor average. I see there point L3A man,
- 1:14:11that's not good. That tells me that you struck
- 1:14:13out. You didn't probably walk at all
- 1:14:15and you know, you maybe got one hit turned on weak.
- 1:14:18It's that's that's bad. But yeah, Jacks Romero, he's a
- 1:14:22young guy. He'll bounce back.
- 1:14:23He's he's too good not to bad. Bad slump, bad week, really bad
- 1:14:28week. But again, Stubbs got a bench
- 1:14:31guy that you drafted probably in the 5th, 6th round, if not
- 1:14:34earlier than that. And you know what his capability
- 1:14:37is? He's great with the glove.
- 1:14:38So he's going to stay in that line up obviously.
- 1:14:41So hopefully he bounces back sooner than later.
- 1:14:44Again, another guy that probably wants a break too coming.
- 1:14:47I think all these guys need breaks for sure.
- 1:14:49But obviously when you're slumping like they have been,
- 1:14:53it's it's a little bit more needed.
- 1:14:56And then you got Brian. Reynolds on here.
- 1:14:58Man, talk about a bust this year.
- 1:15:01That's a guy that's supposed to be Mr. Consistent year in, year
- 1:15:04out. He's going to get you like 280,
- 1:15:06the 300 batting average, taking 20 plus homers, 80 to 90 RBIs.
- 1:15:11Like he's been really consistent.
- 1:15:12So there's no reason not to draft and probably where you
- 1:15:15drafted him and all of a sudden this year he's just been, he's
- 1:15:18been a dog this year. Unfortunately.
- 1:15:20He had a little bit of rain and sunshine, you know, maybe a few
- 1:15:24weeks ago. But then all of a sudden I feel
- 1:15:26like this past week just went totally S on him.
- 1:15:30All that progress that I feel like he made just lost
- 1:15:32immediately. So a lot of people are dropping
- 1:15:36him. Not going to lie.
- 1:15:37There's a lot of better options out there than Brian Reynolds,
- 1:15:40unfortunately at this point. I mean, if he starts heating up
- 1:15:43again, you can pick him up, but he is actually not rosterable at
- 1:15:46this point, I don't believe. And then who was the last guy?
- 1:15:50You. Had on here, Doug.
- 1:15:51You had Riley Green. OH, Riley Green.
- 1:15:54Yeah, another. Streaky guy, man.
- 1:15:55Streaky is defeating, huh? This guy again, 20 fives the
- 1:15:59thirty home runs. Young guy, 24 years old still.
- 1:16:03People thought he was going to be a big breakout this year.
- 1:16:05They thought he was going to take a big step forward.
- 1:16:06He's been pretty consistent to what he was last year, but he
- 1:16:10does go through these really big slumps like he did last week.
- 1:16:13So not too worried about him. He's still a number, you know,
- 1:16:16wide. Oh, I'm just called wide
- 1:16:17receiver, not football season yet.
- 1:16:20He, he's like a #2. You know.
- 1:16:22Low end #2 High end 3 outfielder, especially in 10 to
- 1:16:2712 team leagues. Again, probably not going to go
- 1:16:30about your lineup unless you just have a really deep
- 1:16:33outfield. In that case, maybe you bench
- 1:16:36him for a week and still he starts hitting.
- 1:16:38But yeah, yeah, he'll he'll be fine I think as well.
- 1:16:41I'm not too worried about about those guys, really.
- 1:16:45Yeah, I will say before I start. Talking about pitchers.
- 1:16:48Jose Ramirez had another home run today.
- 1:16:50Two run shot. Wow.
- 1:16:52Stephen Kwan was. On base.
- 1:16:54So whoa, it's good for the Bourbon League.
- 1:16:56Let's. Go.
- 1:16:57It's a duo right there. A Moto.
- 1:17:02Behind yeah, so we'll let's just dive into the.
- 1:17:04Pitchers. Then you got Dodgers starting
- 1:17:06pitcher Yamamamoto, 99.2% owned. He went on one, didn't even
- 1:17:12pitch an inning .22 thirds of an inning, no strikeouts, 2 walk,
- 1:17:16three-year -7.68 points. That was in Milwaukee.
- 1:17:22And I do I, I want to, I'll touch base on him in a second.
- 1:17:25Let me just go over the rest of this Yankees starting pitcher
- 1:17:28Carlos Rendon, 96.4% on. He's actually pitched a really
- 1:17:31good today against the Cubs, but he did not pitch great against
- 1:17:34the Mets in New York in the it's not Shea Stadium.
- 1:17:40What's it called? Citi Field.
- 1:17:42Yeah. O and 15 innings, 4 strikeouts,
- 1:17:45three walks, 6 earned -4.6 points.
- 1:17:49And then you had a couple honorable mentions with Tanner
- 1:17:52BB giving you only a point. Logan Gilbert.
- 1:17:55Give me a -2 And just to talk about Yamamoto real quick now
- 1:18:02this is a guy that was a top ten pitcher, started showing he's
- 1:18:06he's now you're starting to see those chinks in that armor,
- 1:18:09right? He got 4 earned and a loss
- 1:18:10versus the Yankees, 5 earned and a loss versus AD backs, 5 earned
- 1:18:14and a loss versus the Giants, 3 earned and a loss versus the
- 1:18:18Padres. All those thoughts were at home
- 1:18:21except for this this Milwaukee one, which is kind of blows my
- 1:18:24mind. You lose all those games at home
- 1:18:27and it just it's weird. I'm going to talk about him a
- 1:18:31little more later on in the show, but I mean when you when
- 1:18:36you go over his overall numbers compared to last year and I will
- 1:18:40go over them later. It is just it's it's he might be
- 1:18:43hitting that wall, man. And you like you said, you know
- 1:18:46a time off. He needs it too, I think for
- 1:18:49sure. Yeah, he, I mean he's.
- 1:18:51Got the stuff we watched. Him before, he's got some gnat
- 1:18:54stuff. So I don't know, maybe this week
- 1:18:57was just a fluke. Just got hit around.
- 1:18:58He had a lot of pitches. Dave Roberts just said let's
- 1:19:01just RIP the Band-Aid off. Let's just give you the night
- 1:19:03off and we'll just move forward from here and it happens, you
- 1:19:07know, it wasn't like it was a total disaster.
- 1:19:09It wasn't like it was a big blow up of like 8-9, ten runs that he
- 1:19:12gave up. It was 3 earned runs.
- 1:19:14It's not too bad, but he didn't strike out anyone.
- 1:19:17So that tells me he's probably leaving it over the plate a
- 1:19:19little bit more than he usually does.
- 1:19:21Not hitting the spots. So kind of a fluke.
- 1:19:24I'm not too worried about it. From fantasy perspective, he
- 1:19:27hasn't been pitching as good as he was when he first started the
- 1:19:30season in April, but he's still a quality pitcher.
- 1:19:34Top 15 pitcher to say the least. Hey Carlos Rendone, this is what
- 1:19:41you get sometimes. With Carlos.
- 1:19:43Just kind of a blow up sometimes and and usually like we talked
- 1:19:46about with him before, it's just one or two innings that he just
- 1:19:49gets dinged up on. And that was the same case with
- 1:19:51this one here with the Mets. He just kind of gave up too many
- 1:19:54long balls, walked one too many guys and and really just left
- 1:19:58guys on base when he gave up those home runs.
- 1:20:00So hopefully he will bounce back.
- 1:20:02Like you said, Doug, he's pitching well tonight.
- 1:20:04So sounds like he is bouncing back.
- 1:20:06Well, not too worried about it because he plays for a
- 1:20:08competitive team at this point. We can really assess and say,
- 1:20:12hey, you know, these guys are flukes.
- 1:20:13These guys are not flukes. I think in my opinion, Carlos
- 1:20:16Rendon, he's legit this year. He he is going to be.
- 1:20:21You know, he's I think he put the worst behind them after last
- 1:20:24year and obviously his injury year as well.
- 1:20:28So it's it's so encouraging like yesterday, he's bouncing back
- 1:20:32today and then you had not list you had Charles Logan Gilbert
- 1:20:39meant going into the. Season we thought the.
- 1:20:41Seattle team was going to have way more starting pitchers that
- 1:20:43are going to be much better than what they have been so far.
- 1:20:46Kind of been a little bit of a disappointment with Logan
- 1:20:48Gilbert in my opinion. He was drafted pretty high in
- 1:20:50drafts. He was especially when Kirby
- 1:20:53went down, people kind of jumped on that bandwagon.
- 1:20:56So yeah, a little bit of disappointment so far with Logan
- 1:20:59Gilbert to this point. I think going into the All Star
- 1:21:01break, fan of BB. I mean, it is what it is.
- 1:21:06You know he plays for. A a a a central team that's kind
- 1:21:09of mediocre and he's he's got his games.
- 1:21:12You know, he's a match ups guy that's call for what it is.
- 1:21:16He had a great game against the A's, you know, two weeks ago
- 1:21:19that I was watching. So that's just what he is.
- 1:21:22He's just a matchups guy in my opinion.
- 1:21:24He's definitely got the stuff to be rosterable, but I'm not
- 1:21:27banking on him every single week though, So I'm not surprised to
- 1:21:30see him be on this list. And, and fantasy pitchers, it
- 1:21:34only takes like you could pitch 5 innings, give up 3 earned
- 1:21:39runs, get the loss and you're stuck with like 2 points, three
- 1:21:44points, 4 points. So even though sometimes like
- 1:21:47the points might not be there, doesn't necessarily mean it was
- 1:21:49a terrible start at times. But you know, I guess, I guess
- 1:21:55points matter in fantasy. So I guess that's all it really
- 1:21:57matters. Well, I think it's more of like
- 1:22:01consistency. Right.
- 1:22:02I mean, that's why it's so important to go out.
- 1:22:04And you know, if you're, if your league is tailored to pitching,
- 1:22:10right, you know, if you're like, I think ours is, in my opinion,
- 1:22:13you know, if you're getting 5 for a quality start, 10 for a
- 1:22:15win, that's that's 15 points plus the strikeouts in the
- 1:22:19innings. I mean, if you're, if you go out
- 1:22:21and you get a win for that week, you're getting 25 plus points,
- 1:22:24right? I mean, how often do you see
- 1:22:27hitters get 25 plus points? I mean, they do, I'm not saying
- 1:22:30they don't, but 25 plus points in a week is pretty good.
- 1:22:34And if you're a two star pitcher that week and you do get like
- 1:22:3640, you know, like Luis Lucas Giolito, that's why I think it's
- 1:22:41so important that if your league is tailored, you, you do want to
- 1:22:44get at least one consistent ace. You know, I don't I'm not the
- 1:22:47type of person that would waste the first round pick on a a
- 1:22:50school bull. You know, I I do understand why
- 1:22:53he's there. Like I get it why you would want
- 1:22:55that, but I would rather get a hitter and then try to get
- 1:23:00consistent pitching in the second or third.
- 1:23:03That's been my strategy always, you know that.
- 1:23:07But I, you know, I get why people do it for sure.
- 1:23:10But on the flip side of that, there have been times when
- 1:23:13people have wasted first round picks on pitchers like Zach
- 1:23:15Gallon two years ago, right coming off that great year and
- 1:23:19then you just shit the bed. Now you wasted a pic on a
- 1:23:21pitcher. Like pitching is so tough to
- 1:23:23gauge from year in and year out, whereas hitting, you kind of
- 1:23:27know who's going to be your your top ten and who's not.
- 1:23:33That's all. Yeah.
- 1:23:34It's when you look at the end of the year.
- 1:23:36And you look at the points, the way it's structured is your top
- 1:23:39bats, your Tonys, your Judges, your Sotos, your Jose Ramirez,
- 1:23:44they're going to be at the top. And then you have this another
- 1:23:47tier that's under them. And it's your top pitchers.
- 1:23:50And, and there's more top pitchers than there are top
- 1:23:53hitters, but they're not scoring as much as those top hitters.
- 1:23:57And then you got the rest of the field under them.
- 1:23:59So I'd say there's maybe about maybe 5 or 6 top hitters.
- 1:24:02I thought Bobby went in there as well.
- 1:24:04He scores a lot of points, doesn't strike out a lot, steal
- 1:24:06spaces, right. And then you got your pitchers
- 1:24:09and I think there's just about maybe six or seven guys this
- 1:24:12year especially that just score you a ton of points pitching.
- 1:24:16And then you got you like your, your middle of the road pitchers
- 1:24:19and your hitters that go from there.
- 1:24:22But I think you're right. I think the strategy always
- 1:24:24should be a bat in the first round.
- 1:24:26I mean, if you're at the end of the first rounds and there's a
- 1:24:29school bull there, I'm not totally opposed because it's
- 1:24:32going to be snaked back to you. So you know, maybe the values
- 1:24:35there right there. But really, if you got a top
- 1:24:38five pick, top six pick, it's a it's a bat all day.
- 1:24:42It's it's one of those top guys. So yeah, always remember that.
- 1:24:48Always, always remember that. Don't mess up all right?
- 1:24:52So now. We're just, we're going into the
- 1:24:54end here, right. We got a little over 1/2 hour.
- 1:24:56So let's just start talking about some sell all. you.
- 1:25:08And you have both owned. Let me just pull.
- 1:25:12Up his little pic, right? Here.
- 1:25:16There he is. He is.
- 1:25:18My first sell high candidate, this is Atlanta's third baseman,
- 1:25:23Austin Riley. He's 92.4% owned.
- 1:25:26Listen, great week, not taking anything away from it.
- 1:25:30Three O 8, two home runs, five ribbies, still 6 strikeouts.
- 1:25:34You know, 22 points, 3.7 a day a start.
- 1:25:38He plays now my issue with him. So if you drafted him and
- 1:25:44realized that he's not the play you thought, but you held on
- 1:25:47hoping that he would flash signs of life, well, here they are.
- 1:25:51I think this last week and maybe even actually today, he had a
- 1:25:55hit in a ribby. You know he's flashing, right?
- 1:26:00But if you want to move on, now's the time I think, to move
- 1:26:03on from him. I mean, he's an extremely
- 1:26:05streaky hitter. If he's not making contact,
- 1:26:08he'll kill you with strikeouts. He has 113 strikeouts on the
- 1:26:12year, 113 strikeouts. Dude, this guy's on pace of
- 1:26:17Shatter 200. OK, he's got name recognition.
- 1:26:21There's no doubt about that, right?
- 1:26:23Austin Riley, Austin Riley. And I think the streak in the
- 1:26:29name recognition could probably get you a decent starting
- 1:26:32pitcher in return. You know, if you if you want to
- 1:26:34ride the hot streak, do it. But just again, once it's over,
- 1:26:38just just remember, I mean, you know, your season could be over.
- 1:26:43So, you know, take it with stride.
- 1:26:46I think the whole point of the sell high segments are to look
- 1:26:50at players that are performing really good for the week that
- 1:26:53you might be able to get some value on that week that they're
- 1:26:55performing. So I think Austin Riley's a good
- 1:26:58one. I mean to when I had to honest
- 1:27:00with you, I did not know he had 113 strikeouts until I looked up
- 1:27:03his stats. That is wild.
- 1:27:06That is a lot of freaking strikeouts, man.
- 1:27:09Hey, on the road to 200. Jesus not.
- 1:27:13Just not 200. Hits.
- 1:27:14We're talking 200. Strikeouts.
- 1:27:17Yeah, I mean he. Crushed.
- 1:27:19It this week and but you got to keep in mind though, he also
- 1:27:22played with the A's this week as well in that ballpark and
- 1:27:25everyone crushed it. I feel like in that series, both
- 1:27:28athletics and brave players. So awesome name to have on here.
- 1:27:33I was texting you earlier this week.
- 1:27:35I'm like, man, is Austin Reilly back question mark that that
- 1:27:38double and then he hits a home run and I'm like, man, who is
- 1:27:40this guy? It's just the same guy that we
- 1:27:42we bash on and yeah. It is.
- 1:27:46It's the same guy. And perfect guy to have on this
- 1:27:49list. This is the ideal candidate of
- 1:27:52finally doing something for your team, being productive.
- 1:27:55And I'm sure if you've had him since the day one, you're
- 1:27:58probably sick of them because of all the strikeouts and not
- 1:28:01getting you maximizing points and and etcetera.
- 1:28:04So if you have another option and you want to move them, this
- 1:28:07is the time to move 100%. You're not going to get a better
- 1:28:10time, I don't think, than right now to move in Austin Riley.
- 1:28:14It's too bad too for Austin from a player perspective because
- 1:28:18yeah, he is bringing a really good bat right now.
- 1:28:20But now you got the All Star break coming up and he's not
- 1:28:22playing in the All Star game, that's for sure.
- 1:28:24And so he's going to have a full week off and all that momentum
- 1:28:27that he's had. He's going to have to recapture
- 1:28:29that early on in that second-half.
- 1:28:30And it's according to his track record.
- 1:28:33I'm not going to see, I'm not going to think that's going to
- 1:28:36probably happen right away if he does come back the way he's been
- 1:28:39hit in this past week. So, so high.
- 1:28:42This is a sell. This is a easy sell.
- 1:28:43No hold, make a move. Yeah.
- 1:28:47I do, I say. I know.
- 1:28:48We were talking about the Yankees earlier.
- 1:28:49Cody Ballinger just hit his third home run tonight.
- 1:28:53Yeah, he has three, two run. Shots.
- 1:28:56Wow, I. May be making a comeback here,
- 1:28:58Doug. In this Bourbon League, this is
- 1:29:00getting a little interesting. Oh, that's right, you have
- 1:29:03Ballinger. I got Balanzer Quan.
- 1:29:06Ramirez I had. Wu So that would have been huge
- 1:29:08if he got the win, but obviously that didn't happen.
- 1:29:11But no, I mean he got the quality.
- 1:29:13Start which was. Nice.
- 1:29:14But you really want that win? Yeah, but yeah.
- 1:29:19Wow, bowling he. Won't get a chance.
- 1:29:23For a four, another at bat for a chance.
- 1:29:26For four because it's the bottom of the eighth, but 232 grand
- 1:29:30shots take it. It's over 2024 points.
- 1:29:37All right, so let's keep the third.
- 1:29:41Base trend going. I love the pick.
- 1:29:44Love the guy. There he.
- 1:29:47Is look at that. Gotta love it so Astros. 3rd.
- 1:29:54Baseman Isaac Perez Perez Perez Perez Yes 88.9%.
- 1:30:03Own. I mean his.
- 1:30:05Numbers for the week Pretty. And all right, I mean hit 250,
- 1:30:08but gave you 2 homers, 2 ribbies, five runs, no stolen
- 1:30:11bases, only four strikeouts, 20 points, 3.3 a start.
- 1:30:16Now listen, I have him as a sell high.
- 1:30:18I own him. He was, you'll you'll understand
- 1:30:23my sell high. Let me explain this right.
- 1:30:25So in our league, he was rightfully dropped, right?
- 1:30:30And I think if he's that, well, he had a really rough first
- 1:30:33month, right? He was horrible.
- 1:30:36Numbers weren't good at all. A lot of strikeouts just didn't
- 1:30:39turn it around. He was just horrible.
- 1:30:41Yeah. There's just no turning the
- 1:30:43corner on that. But you pick him up, you stash
- 1:30:45him, right? And if you did that, Congrats.
- 1:30:48He's averaging 2.6 points to start right now.
- 1:30:51He's ranked seventh among third baseman, 7th.
- 1:30:53This was the guy that was probably ranked like 18th or
- 1:30:5620th in 3rd baseman. That just goes to show you the
- 1:30:59monster two months he's had, right?
- 1:31:01You want to keep him totally get it.
- 1:31:03You know that if you have a first third slot and you, you
- 1:31:06know, looking to throw a good hitter in there, this is it
- 1:31:10right? But if you did pick him up
- 1:31:12because he was dropped, then chances are you already have a
- 1:31:15good starting third baseman or hopefully you do, who knows?
- 1:31:19So why not trade him? You know, I think he could
- 1:31:22probably get you a really good return, especially if you did
- 1:31:25pick him up. I mean, the homers are there
- 1:31:28now. He's turning the page.
- 1:31:30He's batting lead off. He singled in his first at bat
- 1:31:34today and then came around and scored.
- 1:31:36He's cutting down on strikeouts. You want to keep him, Keep him.
- 1:31:39I think I'm going to keep him even though I did pick him up.
- 1:31:42But I did get office for him. I forget who it was.
- 1:31:44Somebody offered to be a pretty decent pitcher for him and I
- 1:31:47turned him down South. Do what you want, but if there
- 1:31:51is a sell high, I think now would be a great time.
- 1:31:53Why not address, you know, before the trade deadlines, a
- 1:31:57hole you might have in your lineup for a guy that you picked
- 1:32:00up pretty late if somebody did drop them?
- 1:32:04Yeah, I I agree with that. I think that's a fair.
- 1:32:06Assessment, like you said, you probably got picked off a free
- 1:32:08agency. Whatever you get in return for
- 1:32:12him is probably going to be a guy that was drafted, probably
- 1:32:14has some value to him. Paradis does have value to him
- 1:32:17still, like you said, if you kept them and didn't trade him,
- 1:32:20I don't think it's a horrible thing in the world and I don't
- 1:32:24know. What his contract?
- 1:32:25Situation is or anything but the way Cam Smith's been coming
- 1:32:28around lately, really starting to to find his own way.
- 1:32:32You know he plays third base too.
- 1:32:34This could be a guy that could be potentially moved for another
- 1:32:36team, potentially during the trade deadline, needs a corner
- 1:32:40infielder or something like that.
- 1:32:41So who knows what's going to happen with Paradis, but I know
- 1:32:44from a fantasy perspective, I probably want him on my team.
- 1:32:47This is a guy that is playing for a #1 AL West team and that
- 1:32:54whole team right now is A. Wagon.
- 1:32:56So he's going to get opportunities to sell high if
- 1:32:59you really need a position, but I feel like him specifically
- 1:33:03because does. He play multiple.
- 1:33:04Positions in our league Doug or is he just play third base 3rd
- 1:33:08and DH 3rd and. DH So yeah, he.
- 1:33:11Can't maximize all the value, but he's still a solid player.
- 1:33:14So again, I don't think there's a bad answer here.
- 1:33:16If you want to sell them for something that you need, that's
- 1:33:18cool, but if you say hey, that's my dude, I'm cool with that too.
- 1:33:23Yeah, I think I'm. I think I'm holding.
- 1:33:26Unless like something crazy happens.
- 1:33:27I mean, I like, but I like my team as it is.
- 1:33:31But yeah, I think I definitely think I'm holding for now.
- 1:33:34Like like you said though, you can go either way really,
- 1:33:38especially when you pick him up. I think he nailed it.
- 1:33:40I love when you said you're you'll trade him for somebody
- 1:33:44that was probably drafted for somebody you picked up.
- 1:33:48It's perfect. It's enough right there.
- 1:33:52And then last but not. Least on our sell high.
- 1:33:54We did talk about him on our Who's Hot segment.
- 1:33:57Look at that. What a pick, all right.
- 1:34:01The red. Sox Sonic pitcher Lucas Chill.
- 1:34:03You know, he's only 43% owned. We went over his numbers on the
- 1:34:08week, right? Two and O, 48 points in both his
- 1:34:11starts, 13 2/3 innings, 13 strikeouts.
- 1:34:14Again, this was probably another guy that was dropped in your
- 1:34:17league just because owners lost faith, and rightfully so, right?
- 1:34:20I mean, another guy that started the year really bad, really bad.
- 1:34:26I mean, I traded him to Jimmy and Jimmy just dropped him
- 1:34:29because he had like 3 starts and I think one of them ended up
- 1:34:32getting like -11 points just because he got rocked.
- 1:34:37But so if you did pick him up, you reap it the benefits.
- 1:34:40I mean, he looks great hitting 9495 consistently.
- 1:34:44You know, I do think he might hit a wall later in the year
- 1:34:47just because, you know, listen, he didn't play last year.
- 1:34:50You know, this is his first full year back.
- 1:34:52But in any case, you pick him up, right?
- 1:34:54He looks great now. You could probably move him for
- 1:34:57a Rasta piece you might need. He should, I think he should
- 1:35:00fetch you something good. I think he's he's on a roll.
- 1:35:03The only thing is if you're buying him, you know, I, I, I
- 1:35:06might be a little weary, you know, I, I might be a little
- 1:35:09weary that it might hit the wall.
- 1:35:11So what I would give up for him? I'm not entirely sure.
- 1:35:14You know, just there's a lot of weariness, a lot of weariness
- 1:35:20with, with Lucas Giolito, but he's still a solid arm.
- 1:35:24Like he's, he's a competitor. He goes out there and throws
- 1:35:26pretty good. Like I said, I think what is he?
- 1:35:28One is he's five and one his last six starts.
- 1:35:31Like go out there and play him. Man, if you have them.
- 1:35:35You, you can't, you can ride a streak and that's fine.
- 1:35:37But I, I do think he will fall on his face at some point.
- 1:35:41I mean, history has told me with Chicago that that's what
- 1:35:43happens, that sometimes the long.
- 1:35:46Ball comes into play with him. He used to give up the total
- 1:35:49home runs. I think he led the League One
- 1:35:52year when he was with Cleveland or when he moved to Cleveland.
- 1:35:56And then also, like you said, the.
- 1:35:57Injuries and stuff, so there. Is a little bit of a resume
- 1:35:59there on on a negative front and but you know he has you've seen
- 1:36:04the stuff the last five starts here.
- 1:36:06He's looks great and if you are by I would be wary too, but I
- 1:36:10would also probably trade a guy that would you know a wary guy
- 1:36:13for a wary guy. You know I would maybe pick like
- 1:36:16a Mike Trout. You know who who strikes out a
- 1:36:18ton all of a sudden this year does have some pop at his bat
- 1:36:23still still hits home runs, had a couple the other night.
- 1:36:26And you know, he's not going to get you the maximize points.
- 1:36:29And with G Alito, I think it's a little bit more of a risk
- 1:36:32sometimes, you know, because right now this is the peak,
- 1:36:35especially the way he's been going.
- 1:36:37If you believe he's going to be doing the same thing, you know,
- 1:36:40the next five weeks after this, then go after him.
- 1:36:43That's that's that's the move. And then if you're a believer,
- 1:36:47you just keep him. So it's G Alito's an interesting
- 1:36:51case because like you said, I I'm not that's not a guy I'd be
- 1:36:55going out to to wanting to buy and I'm not going to give that
- 1:36:59person a lot. Maybe an underperforming guy I.
- 1:37:05I. Bought Lawrence Butler.
- 1:37:07And he hasn't been that great since I've gotten him.
- 1:37:10He hasn't really found his groove yet.
- 1:37:12He's got potential. I think he gets you maybe 2.4
- 1:37:15points, 2.5 per game, which is all right.
- 1:37:19It's it's rosterable. So if you need something like
- 1:37:22that. But yeah, it's kind of an
- 1:37:25interesting case with Lucas G Alito.
- 1:37:27It's it's one of those guys, maybe since you picked them up,
- 1:37:29you just ride them out. And then when he when he falls
- 1:37:32off the. Wagon you.
- 1:37:33You let go. Makes it a little bit easier
- 1:37:36when he's a free age of pickup, yeah.
- 1:37:40And I think that's the thing that'll.
- 1:37:41Win your league, right, Is you strike gold with these, these
- 1:37:43pickups and you just ride them like a Giolito, like a Perez if
- 1:37:47he was dropped in your league. Like you pick them up and you
- 1:37:50ride them. And most of the time, that's
- 1:37:52what's going to win you a championship, believe it or not.
- 1:37:54Yeah. All right.
- 1:37:56So on the flip side of that. There's some of the sell highs.
- 1:38:00Let's talk about some of the buying lows.
- 1:38:02All right now there is a reason I have this.
- 1:38:07First guy here. And I I do own him as well.
- 1:38:13Not a good week. An all right week.
- 1:38:16I do notice a lot of strikeouts with him.
- 1:38:21There he is. Whoa, look at that.
- 1:38:25I know, some really good pictures this week, huh?
- 1:38:30Cubs out of outfielder Ian Hat 82% owned.
- 1:38:33Had a a rough week. I mean there's no beating around
- 1:38:37the Bush .091 no homers, 2 ribbies, no runs, no stolen
- 1:38:42bases, 6 strikeouts gave you 4 points.
- 1:38:44So it's at least it's positive. He does have over 90 strikeouts
- 1:38:49on the year right? But he does average 2.3 a start.
- 1:38:53He can win you weeks when he's really hot.
- 1:38:55Let's remember a couple weeks ago you hit two homers in the
- 1:38:58game and then a couple games later he had another one.
- 1:39:01I think I he was on my bench and Sean and our league had mocked
- 1:39:05me for benching and whoa, you know, 17 points on your bench in
- 1:39:08two days. But when he's not hot, he
- 1:39:12doesn't hurt you. Like you'll see him like, you
- 1:39:15know, 091 average still gave you 4 points.
- 1:39:19So, you know, he'll probably hit you 25 plus home runs.
- 1:39:23He's probably, in my opinion, a great 3 or 4 outfielder.
- 1:39:28You know, if you if you have the room for it and you want it, I
- 1:39:31think this should be a trade that wouldn't cost you much.
- 1:39:35And that's in front of. Kyle Tucker, you know.
- 1:39:39He's the table setter for that team.
- 1:39:42He's a very streaky guy. You saw at the beginning of the
- 1:39:44year, he came out red hot, cooled off, then was hot again.
- 1:39:48Now he's cold again. But like I said, I mean, he's a
- 1:39:51guy, a bat that can win you a week.
- 1:39:54And when he's not going, he won't really necessarily lose
- 1:39:57you one. I mean, he's he, he, he's not
- 1:40:01going to give you a ton of negative.
- 1:40:02Points in a week. Is what is what I'm trying to
- 1:40:04say. You know, he's he still might
- 1:40:05end up positive or 0, which isn't ideal, but it's better
- 1:40:10than Freddie Freeman with -5 last week.
- 1:40:14I I agree with everything you just said there.
- 1:40:16He's the. Table setter for that team.
- 1:40:18He's he's still going to be getting competitive at bats
- 1:40:22every single day. It's not like they're really
- 1:40:25going to move him probably from that spot either.
- 1:40:27He's kind of bad at a staple there for the whole season.
- 1:40:29And yeah, I think this is a guy that you could buy low also,
- 1:40:34because outfield's so deep, there's so many outfielders that
- 1:40:38are kind of in the same range as Ian Hat, where it's like pick
- 1:40:43your poison type. You know, you could say Ian Hat,
- 1:40:45you can say George Springer, you can say, you know, you used to
- 1:40:49be able to say Byron Buxton and that, but now he's a little bit
- 1:40:51better than that. But it's just a lot of clumps
- 1:40:54right there with these guys. And in Hat, when he's on fire,
- 1:40:58he is one of the best hitters in the league.
- 1:41:00He can really RIP that ball, really get you a multi home run
- 1:41:03games and and again, steal some bases.
- 1:41:07The only thing that concerns me a little bit is the stolen the
- 1:41:10the strikeouts. That's a little high there for
- 1:41:12sure. So there is some risk there on
- 1:41:15the buy low. But yeah, you're getting a
- 1:41:19concrete guy that can you can start every single week, in my
- 1:41:21opinion, probably as your #3 outfielder all day.
- 1:41:25So it's it's worth it in some aspects.
- 1:41:29So I don't know what I would give up for an E cap on a buy
- 1:41:33low like the week he had again because it's just.
- 1:41:39So many outfielders. Out there.
- 1:41:41So I, I would look at the free agency first.
- 1:41:43I usually like to look at like 7 seven day, 1421 day forecast,
- 1:41:48see what kind of streak people are going on and before maybe
- 1:41:53making a move for an outfielder because it's just again, just
- 1:41:56there's so many of them. So I I sometimes rad just go
- 1:41:59with the hot hands. So there were some weeks where I
- 1:42:01pick up of Brian Reynolds and all of a sudden he falls off.
- 1:42:04I dropped him, you know, one week I had William Brayu, you
- 1:42:08know, for weeks because he was hitting so much power and then
- 1:42:12he falls off and you know, and then he just rotate Joe Adele,
- 1:42:15same thing. You know, he's he's falling off
- 1:42:18a little bit since he had that hot streak a couple weeks ago.
- 1:42:21So there there's just a lot of the same kind of guys.
- 1:42:24So I'd probably looking free agency 1st and then I said, OK,
- 1:42:27unless I really love Ian Happ, then maybe I'll start making a
- 1:42:30move in that direction to to get him.
- 1:42:33So excuse. Me.
- 1:42:37I ended up trading for him when he was hot, but I gave up Lucas
- 1:42:44Giolito in another pitcher. I forget who it was and Jimmy
- 1:42:49had dropped Lucas Giolito so I got him back.
- 1:42:51So I I don't think I gave up too much at that point.
- 1:42:54Right. So it was a 2 for one, and your
- 1:42:57favorite it was a 2 for. One and then it ended up being
- 1:43:00a. 2 for one for me right? I I mean I like.
- 1:43:04Them I I do. I find that whenever I do bench
- 1:43:07him, he goes on those tears like it's happened to me twice.
- 1:43:11So it's like, all right, let me just start him.
- 1:43:13I'm just going to keep him in the lineup.
- 1:43:14F it, ride him out. So that's where I'm at with him.
- 1:43:17But you know, again, he's probably a guy that'll come out
- 1:43:22of the gate swinging after the All Star break.
- 1:43:23He probably needs a rest for sure.
- 1:43:26Yeah, he had. My joint Springer.
- 1:43:29That's that's for me. George Springer will never have
- 1:43:33a week like that. Ever.
- 1:43:34Again. And that was against.
- 1:43:37Me. Stupid.
- 1:43:40I lost because of. Him, really.
- 1:43:43But whatever. What are you going to do then?
- 1:43:45He'll never do it again. All right.
- 1:43:48Next. Up and then a little.
- 1:43:49Segment into this. So we really never talked second
- 1:43:52base. I think in a points league and
- 1:43:54even cats, someone like this guy could be pretty helpful to you
- 1:43:59and he's only 70% owned plays for the Brewers price to rank.
- 1:44:04Little. Surprise, we barely talk second
- 1:44:06base. So again, I put him in like the
- 1:44:10Ian Hat category. You know, had a rough week.
- 1:44:13Only hit 182, no homers, one run, 2 ribbies, only three
- 1:44:17strikeouts, no stolen bases. Still gave you 5 points.
- 1:44:20So bad week still gives you positive.
- 1:44:23Now here's some of his numbers, right?
- 1:44:25He already has 82 on the year, 82 strikeouts, which puts him on
- 1:44:28pace to shatter his high. Last year he had 105 and 155
- 1:44:32games. That's really good.
- 1:44:34He's on pace and hit maybe 50 more, have 50 more strikeouts.
- 1:44:38But he also has twenty stolen bases on the year and five home
- 1:44:42runs. So his home run output puts him
- 1:44:45on pace to beat last year, which was his career high.
- 1:44:48He hit seven home runs last year.
- 1:44:51All of last year he had seven. He's already at 5.
- 1:44:54He had almost fifty stolen bases.
- 1:44:57He has on pace for almost 50 stolen bases.
- 1:45:00So really the strikeouts are what's hurting him this year as
- 1:45:03opposed to last year. I think last year he was a top
- 1:45:06ten second baseman, but he's ranked 7th right now.
- 1:45:11That goes to show you how bad second base is.
- 1:45:14He's averaging 2.2 a start. I do think that those numbers
- 1:45:19could go up if the Brewers decide to make a little push.
- 1:45:21I do see him making a little push, right?
- 1:45:23They got Woodruff back. Now they do have, you know,
- 1:45:27yellow shed a home run today. They have.
- 1:45:30They have. Pieces there to make a.
- 1:45:32Push and I think they will. And you know, second base is
- 1:45:36just one of those positions that it's just tough to fill, right?
- 1:45:39I mean, terrain to me is like A1B to a Luis Araya's 1A, not a
- 1:45:45lot of strikeouts, steals more bases, but strikes out more than
- 1:45:51than Orias does. So he's he's that second tier
- 1:45:54second baseman. I mean, he shouldn't cost you
- 1:45:56much. And if you punt it on the on
- 1:45:58this position like you're talking about and outfield,
- 1:46:00right, you go every week, pick up.
- 1:46:02This might be a chance to get a player that's pretty durable,
- 1:46:05pretty young, that could have a pretty good second-half, yeah.
- 1:46:10There's no, there's no set and forget guys at 2nd.
- 1:46:13Base this year really unless you're Kendall Marte, you know,
- 1:46:17Simeon now maybe out Tuesday now that he's starting to heat up,
- 1:46:21but it's tough to find a guy that you can fill in week in
- 1:46:23week out with that if you didn't get one of those guys.
- 1:46:26Turin, yeah, I think they're comfortable with him really
- 1:46:29taking over. You know, they've they've got
- 1:46:32rid of Lily Adamus last year at shortstop and I think they put a
- 1:46:38lot of trust in terrain this year to kind of just keep and
- 1:46:41maintain his flow of what he done last year.
- 1:46:43Like so far he has been and you kind of know what you're getting
- 1:46:46with him as well. I think the stolen bases and the
- 1:46:49strikeouts kind of wash a little bit more than like an Ian Haft
- 1:46:54does, except like you said, Ian Haft does have the power and the
- 1:46:58RBI has to back it up a little bit more.
- 1:47:00So yeah, I think he's like a little bit of a a downgrade from
- 1:47:03a Luis Arias at second base because you're probably going to
- 1:47:06get the same amount of production from a point
- 1:47:09standpoint. So yeah.
- 1:47:11And then this is a guy that you could probably trade one for one
- 1:47:14for. You don't have to go crazy and
- 1:47:17make a, you know, a multi man trade here for this guy.
- 1:47:19I think you can do a solid guy for a solid guy.
- 1:47:25I don't know who that guy. Is on top of my head.
- 1:47:28But I I don't think you need to the to trade away the the wagon.
- 1:47:32I I was going to say maybe Zach Gowens because how poor he has
- 1:47:35been, but he's been producing better.
- 1:47:37So I don't know if I would be willing to to trade a Zach Gowen
- 1:47:41at this point for a terrain. But yeah, what what do you
- 1:47:46think, Doug? What, what would be like a, a,
- 1:47:49a, a pitcher, a starting pitcher or a maybe an outfielder that
- 1:47:54would be like me and Hap. Why not just do an E and?
- 1:47:561/2 of Bryce straight up. A lot of times these guys are.
- 1:47:59The sell high guys and the buy low guys, they kind of match,
- 1:48:03don't they? Sometimes, yeah, I like that.
- 1:48:06But yeah, I'd probably go that route for sure.
- 1:48:09Yeah, I mean, I own Arayas. So I don't I.
- 1:48:12Don't need second base, but I do.
- 1:48:14I mean, the potential's there for him for sure.
- 1:48:16For Bryce, I, I think he's good. I like him a lot, to be honest
- 1:48:20with you. Yeah, he scores a lot of runs,
- 1:48:22if that. Team can hit like it did.
- 1:48:23Last year, you're going to look at, you know, you're going to
- 1:48:25look at a lot of runs, you know, 8090 runs at least.
- 1:48:30So we'll see what they can do. And last but not least, here's
- 1:48:36my boy. Love the pick.
- 1:48:41We it's funny. The pitchers that were on the
- 1:48:44hot list and the cold list are now the pitchers on the sell
- 1:48:46high by low. I know, it's like I got lazy.
- 1:48:51This morning, Dodger started pitcher Yamamoto.
- 1:48:54He's 99.2% owned. We had numbers last earlier
- 1:48:59today. We went over that, you know, O
- 1:49:01and one 2/3 of an inning, no K2 walk, three are -7 points.
- 1:49:06Now, like you had said, you know, he still, he still has
- 1:49:08great stuff. We've seen him pitch.
- 1:49:10He's just he's inconsistent, right?
- 1:49:13I think owners right now are realizing that he's slowly
- 1:49:15starting to fall back down to earth after the stellar month he
- 1:49:18had to begin the year. So this could be a good time to
- 1:49:21buy low. But again, there's always comes
- 1:49:23with some kind of beware. And for this, I would say the
- 1:49:26rotation's healthy glass now is back.
- 1:49:29Snail's a month away. That means you could he could
- 1:49:32potentially get skipped. That means you could see a six
- 1:49:36man rotation. That means a lot of things could
- 1:49:39happen, right? And here's here's a number that
- 1:49:43that is wild to me. He started 18 games last year
- 1:49:47when he got back from injury with 90 innings pitched.
- 1:49:51This year he's at 18 games and 97 innings pitch.
- 1:49:55So that's with half the season he's got.
- 1:49:59So I think you're going to see those bumps in the road later
- 1:50:04on. I think he's still quality
- 1:50:06should cost far less than he would have cost you at the
- 1:50:08beginning of the season. But he's going to hit the wall.
- 1:50:12I think he will. I mean, I think you're seeing
- 1:50:14it, to be honest with you. I think you're seeing it.
- 1:50:16So, you know, and that's the other thing, man.
- 1:50:20Can I just go on a rant real quick?
- 1:50:22Do it. Do it when you.
- 1:50:24Have pitchers from. Other countries that have this,
- 1:50:29this rap, this, this great repertoire of pitches, you know,
- 1:50:34we talk about Dice Cave from back in the day.
- 1:50:37We can talk about Yamamoto, we can talk about Suzaki, right?
- 1:50:40And fantasy. People during.
- 1:50:44Drafts never see him pitch. In the in the in.
- 1:50:48America don't know what they got going by talent overseas, which
- 1:50:53I'm not saying they're not talented.
- 1:50:54I'm just, you know, Dougie Matsuki had a great career here.
- 1:50:58You know, Ichiro had a Hall of Fame year after having a Hall of
- 1:51:01Fame year in Japan yet. Like, I'm not saying that it's
- 1:51:04not talented, but I do think the competition is a little a little
- 1:51:09bar lower, you know, that's all, you know, So to to waste a top
- 1:51:14345 pick on some of these guys blows my mind.
- 1:51:18You know, Suzaki was a guy in my opinion, I understand, you know,
- 1:51:23he was supposed to be this generational pitcher, this
- 1:51:27talent that throws hard, can switch speeds and so young.
- 1:51:32And he's played for a Dodger team.
- 1:51:33That should get you, you know, at least 11:50 wins.
- 1:51:38Excuse me, but to waste a. You know, a top. 6-7 pick on
- 1:51:44him. It, it kind of just blows my
- 1:51:46mind. You wonder like people should
- 1:51:49learn, like, you know, I mean, Yamamoto last year, I mean, his
- 1:51:54first start, he got rocked last year.
- 1:51:56You remember that he gave up like six runs in overseas.
- 1:52:00It's like, you know, listen, I'm not saying they're not good.
- 1:52:03They don't have good stuff. It's like the transition is is
- 1:52:06tough for some of them and you know, I just I wouldn't waste
- 1:52:11early picks on some of these guys, you know, so to get back
- 1:52:15to this year, so he's at the innings, he's at the games
- 1:52:19started last year. What do you expect for the for
- 1:52:22the rest of the year? Now, the second-half, What do
- 1:52:24you I mean, he's going to get skipped.
- 1:52:26I think he'll definitely get skipped because they're going to
- 1:52:30make the play offs. They're going to run want to
- 1:52:32arrest them, right? They're going to lock up this
- 1:52:33division sooner rather than later.
- 1:52:35Let's give him the rest he needs.
- 1:52:37But what do you think his numbers are going to be like?
- 1:52:40What's realistic? You know, I mean, I think right
- 1:52:44now he's around 2528 ERAII don't think that's realistic at all.
- 1:52:49You know, I I don't know what to expect, but I do expect a wall.
- 1:52:53And I think what you're seeing right now, I think he's going to
- 1:52:55pitch better than he did and gives Milwaukee, but what you're
- 1:52:59seeing is almost, almost like a. Like a.
- 1:53:07What's the word I'm looking for? You're seeing almost.
- 1:53:12What could happen? Like into the future, you know,
- 1:53:14it's like this is he's not this bad, but he could be.
- 1:53:19He's not as good as you think he is.
- 1:53:20Really. Yeah.
- 1:53:24He's like he he came out of the gay.
- 1:53:26Hot this year, he, he came out hot, he was one of the best
- 1:53:29pitchers in April like hands down.
- 1:53:31And that's where I think that two that 2A25 ERA is coming from
- 1:53:36right there is because of how hot he started.
- 1:53:38And then now we've seen some of the last few starts, you know,
- 1:53:41he still goes 6 innings, but you see him get in trouble a little
- 1:53:44bit early sometimes now. And, and there's a learning
- 1:53:46curve for both sides when it comes from overseas pitchers
- 1:53:49and, and Major League Baseball. It's a learning curve for
- 1:53:53Yamamoto, and it's also a learning curve for, you know,
- 1:53:56scouts and players. Oh, wow.
- 1:53:58Kyle O'Reilly just did a home run.
- 1:53:59Was going to say that. But yeah, he hit a.
- 1:54:04Grand Slam. Oh, he just did hit a grand.
- 1:54:08Slam. That was a grand.
- 1:54:09Slam. Wow, man, they're.
- 1:54:11Crushing him 12 to three, but. But yeah, you got snow coming
- 1:54:15back and Glasgow coming back. I think when those guys went
- 1:54:18down, I think the expectation for Yamamoto went up a little
- 1:54:20bit because they kind of relied on him to go deeper in these
- 1:54:23games a little bit or just, you know, be the guy.
- 1:54:26And now that these guys are coming back, he doesn't have to
- 1:54:29be the guy. So if he wants to go 5 innings
- 1:54:31with only, you know, 80 pitchers, they might just do
- 1:54:34that moving forward with these guys coming back.
- 1:54:36So it is a buy low candidate. He hasn't had the stellar
- 1:54:40outings that we've seen in the last couple, couple starts for
- 1:54:42sure. And I still think you have to
- 1:54:44trade something quality back for him, maybe another guy that you
- 1:54:48just drafted at a decent rate, but maybe he's just not hitting.
- 1:54:52You know what you thought he was going to do.
- 1:54:54I drafted Jackson Cheerio, you know, in the third, fourth
- 1:54:57round. Yamamoto was probably in that
- 1:55:01same range. They probably have close to the
- 1:55:04same amount of points. I think Cheerios around 250
- 1:55:07points in fantasy. So it's just like a preference
- 1:55:11of you want the picture, which I think now is a little bit more
- 1:55:14of a higher risk when you buy them because of what I just said
- 1:55:18versus a guy that is, you know, hot and cold with the bat, maybe
- 1:55:22isn't hitting your expectations, but can still have these really
- 1:55:25productive weeks. Which one would you rather have?
- 1:55:28So it it's kind of a matter of what you want there or what you
- 1:55:31need. Yamamoto, he's a front line
- 1:55:33starter. If you need a front line starter
- 1:55:34on your team, this has got a target, but obviously the
- 1:55:38expectations you have to damper down because of what's going to
- 1:55:41what's going to come next. Yeah, that's great.
- 1:55:45I'd rather have Jackson. Chario, to be honest with you, I
- 1:55:47I don't think he's a front. I don't think Yamamoto is a
- 1:55:50frontline starter. He's probably like an SP2, maybe
- 1:55:533. You know, you know, I don't have
- 1:55:57a crystal ball. I'll tell you where he's going
- 1:55:58to finish. But I mean, I don't, I don't
- 1:56:00think, I mean, the guy was a top.
- 1:56:03Five pitcher to begin. The year he's out of the top 20
- 1:56:05now. So, you know, it's, it's tough
- 1:56:08to gauge where he's going to finish at.
- 1:56:10I think he might just be a top 30 pitcher, you know, might fall
- 1:56:13back a little more. But I mean, it is what it is.
- 1:56:17I I would rather have a Jackson Cheerio without a doubt.
- 1:56:21I agree. I agree with that maybe.
- 1:56:23Byron Buxton, maybe a guy that's performing, you know, out of his
- 1:56:26shoes this year for a guy like, I don't know, even that might
- 1:56:29even be high at this point. The guy's about to go 3030.
- 1:56:31He's back tonight, too, by the way.
- 1:56:33He is in the lineup. That's awesome.
- 1:56:35The only thing? About.
- 1:56:37About a Byron Buxton is you either got them off free agency
- 1:56:40or you have to be real late and some owners with Yamamoto
- 1:56:44wasting such an early pick probably might not do that.
- 1:56:47That's that's the only hesitation True I.
- 1:56:51Agree with that, that's for sure.
- 1:56:53But all right, man. That's that's it.
- 1:56:56We got man, tons of stuff around the league, some injury updates,
- 1:57:02talking about hottest, coldest hitters, pitchers this past week
- 1:57:06and of course some good sell high, buy low candidates.
- 1:57:09I thought it was great. I would say finish your drink
- 1:57:12and go to bed, but you got Logan Webb going against the Dodgers
- 1:57:16in about 10 minutes. So I think I'm going to watch
- 1:57:20Logan Webb because I have him going in both my leagues.
- 1:57:24This is where you earn your money, man.
- 1:57:25This is where you become a a a stud pitcher.
- 1:57:28And if he wants to be a Cy Young contender, he's got to beat the
- 1:57:31the big dogs. I'm expecting a big Logan Webb
- 1:57:34win tonight. I.
- 1:57:37Like it? I like it.
- 1:57:39So all right, man. Well, for Mikey V, I'm Doug.
- 1:57:44This is Bourbon and Bob, we're coming back live again next
- 1:57:46week, giving you a couple some numbers on the short week and
- 1:57:51then, you know, maybe mix it up a little bit since we won't have
- 1:57:54full week stats because it's the All Star break.
- 1:57:57So we'll figure out, we'll put a little fun script together,
- 1:58:00right? I like that.
- 1:58:01I like that idea all. Right.
- 1:58:04So until next. Week.
