- 0:00And we're here at Bear Smoke Cow's Barbecue and Hartford. It is the final
- 0:03one of the first semester, as the first semester for the Huskies ended yesterday.
- 0:09Bob Joyce, Adam Jerdy, you know, my broadcast partner, and
- 0:11Coach cav with you till seven later. We'll hear from two guys that have
- 0:16made some waves lately in a good way. Along with Joey Muldowney. That
- 0:19would be Ryan Taddle and Tristan Fraser, who have played really, really well
- 0:24down the stretch here in the first half of the season. And Coach cav
- 0:27is with us. Good thing. I'm glad he didn't have any weather issues
- 0:30coming home from Maine yesterday because there was snow up there yesterday. No,
- 0:32it wasn't too bad. We have a great domingos Are bus driver. I'm
- 0:39not going to try to pronounce his last name at Chaveria I think it is,
- 0:42but he's fantastic. We've had him for a while and he got us
- 0:47through the little bit of snow we had in Maine, and we got some
- 0:51rain I think in New Hampshire, but it was pretty much by the time
- 0:54we got to Connecticut, we were good good Splitsville on the weekend two nothing
- 0:58over Lowell and then yesterday seven three against Maine. And from what you were
- 1:03telling us about the game, it was not a seven to three game per
- 1:06se, but it basically seems like it capsualized the entire season for the Iraqi
- 1:10team so far. Yeah, it was a really bizarre game. I said
- 1:12that afterwards to the press. It was a game where we were playing so
- 1:19well. I mean we had, you know, chances in the house were
- 1:23two to one in that game, and it just seemed like we'd have a
- 1:27chance to score and tie the game up, and then they'd come down on
- 1:30a Russian score. We had a lot of zone time. I was saying
- 1:34to you, Bob, it was like having a seventy five yard drive and
- 1:37throwing a pick six on the five. It was frustrating because we were playing
- 1:42really well and we had puck possession, we were doing the things we wanted
- 1:45to do, and we'd have a turnover and next thing you know, it
- 1:48would be a two on one and it's in the back of our net.
- 1:49And we've certainly got to address that. I think why we were giving up
- 1:53the two on ones, and that's something we'll look into a little bit further
- 1:57here over the break, but that that actually hasn't happened to us a ton
- 2:01this year. We've been pretty good about not giving up a lot of odd
- 2:05man rushes, but last night that was the case of the game. They
- 2:10scored on their scoring opportunities and we didn't. The team seven nine and one.
- 2:15Now this season, how do you manage your post game message to the
- 2:21team in a season where things should be going better based on play, but
- 2:27the results aren't there. It just feels like it's a tough job in your
- 2:30shoes to try to make sure you're delivering messages to these guys. Yeah,
- 2:35I think you have to focus on what you're doing pretty well, and I
- 2:38think the best way to sum up our first half, hey, listen,
- 2:42we're in a results driven business, and you know, Bill Parcels used to
- 2:46say you are what you are. You know we're seven nine and one,
- 2:50and I think the reason that we're seven nine and one and not say ten
- 2:55six and one is because not because of effort. The effort's been there,
- 3:01night in and night out. I think there's maybe one game. I think
- 3:05our first game up at Vermont, I didn't think our effort was to our
- 3:09standard. However, for the rest of the time, and maybe the third
- 3:14period of the Merrimack game, you know, was not indicative of the type
- 3:19of team we want to play. So the effort's been there night in and
- 3:23night out, it's just the execution hasn't. So the good thing is you
- 3:28can't execute without effort. But right now we've got to figure out a way
- 3:32when we have open nets. You can't miss the net. You got to
- 3:37bury your chances. Right it's in basketball, you got to make your free
- 3:39throws. You got to you know, get timely hitting. In baseball,
- 3:45you got to get two out hits if you want to be successful. And
- 3:47right now we're not executing at the level you need to execute at to be
- 3:54you know, a winning team in the first half. So that's something we'll
- 3:59focus on second half. Friday night, a two to nothing went over Lowell,
- 4:02typical low scoring yukon Lowell game. Tristan Fraser scores off a clear attempt
- 4:08up the right side. He's just coming off the bench and he waited just
- 4:11enough to get a little bit of a screen beat Henry Welsh, something that
- 4:14the Oskies have had issues with this year. Scoring against Welch, and then
- 4:16you got better as the game went on, and finally Jake Percival off of
- 4:20face off win by Lowell face off win then went right between the two defensemen
- 4:25went to skate race two nothing. You get a win in a shutout for
- 4:28Freath and Higher. Yeah, that was a big win for us because one,
- 4:30it gave us a season series versus Lowell right points wise. And two
- 4:38the thing I liked about that game was we didn't have a great start.
- 4:42You know, I thought Lowell got the better of us in that period,
- 4:45and that's gonna happen sometimes in this league, for sure. But Ethan made
- 4:48some great saves early on to keep it at zero zero, and then we
- 4:53continued to get better as a game went on, and with a one goal
- 4:56lead. The best part of that game for me was with a one goal
- 4:58lead in the third period, we didn't sit back and play kitty bar the
- 5:02door and try to win the game one nothing. We you know, Chase
- 5:05hit a post. I think Tattle hit a crossbar. We were really pushing.
- 5:12You know, we're playing on our toes, we weren't playing back on
- 5:15our heels. So that was encouraging for me in that game. Yeah,
- 5:17that's that is what I was going to ask because the goal that made it
- 5:20one nothing was scored exactly midway through the game, So you had thirty minutes.
- 5:24You knew you had thirty minutes to try and close this thing out against
- 5:27a tough opponent. Where you go into a game against U Mats Lowell won,
- 5:31nothing's very much on the table. I mean, that's just the style
- 5:33of player that they played. So what did you see starting with that Tristan
- 5:39Fraser goal from the team where you thought, Okay, this team's this team's
- 5:43got what it takes over the final thirty I think the biggest issue in that
- 5:48game and what turned it around for us was in the probably the second half
- 5:53of the game, we started winning faceoffs. You know, the third period
- 5:57we were eleven and three in faceoffs, and I think that's a huge part
- 6:00of the game. So when you're not winning faceoffs, you're chasing the game,
- 6:06you know, and there you're letting the other team dictate how the game
- 6:10is going to be played by dumping the puck in and then you've got to
- 6:12go get it and break it out. So I thought that was probably,
- 6:16you know, the biggest difference in the game at that point, and we
- 6:21started, you know, when we start winning face offs and we're dictating you
- 6:27know, the tempo of the game, then that plays into our you know,
- 6:31the style of hockey we want to play, and we're playing better when
- 6:34we're doing that and we're getting multiple shot shifts and having teams in their own
- 6:40zone. All Right, we'll talk about a few of the guys that are
- 6:42playing well as of late, and also two of the guys that will interview
- 6:46their line is outstanding the last four games. It's the Ucott Hockey Coaches Show
- 6:49from Bear Smokehouse Barbecue Bob Joyce, Adam Gardino coach cav till seven o'clock here
