- 0:00The unstoppable hat just for you.
- 0:02I am so honored because, yes, we are unstoppable, aren't we?
- 0:05This is like the best time of midlift.
- 0:07I kind of feel like it's my new glow up, my new time of blossoming.
- 0:11I think I'm old enough and ugly enough to not give two hoots anymore.
- 0:14And that is refreshing.
- 0:15It's faith over fear.
- 0:17And why not just give it your best shot?
- 0:19Particularly in midlife when many women can feel like they're fading away, you know, like really feeling like you deserve that spot and going for it, you know, there's nothing that should be holding you back.
- 0:30I agree.
- 0:30Foot on the throttle, max capacity.
- 0:32If I crash, I crash.
- 0:34But at least I'm giving it a best shot.
- 0:35I'm not slowing down anytime soon.
- 0:37While there is breath in my lungs, baby, I am going for it.
- 0:40Yes, that is such a good motto for midlife too.
- 0:50Today's guest is proof that your next act might just be your most interesting one yet.
- 0:56At 49, Juliet Mayhew is stepping into a whole new spotlight as one of the stars of of the Real Housewives of London.
- 1:03But reality TV is only one chapter in a life that has already included the West End recording with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Entrepreneurship, marriage, motherhood, and now a return to performing.
- 1:15And this new chapter hasn't come without some noise.
- 1:18Juliet has found herself at the center of questions about friendship, ambition, authenticity, and whether she belongs in certain rooms.
- 1:26But what happens when you reach midlife and decide you're done letting other people decide who you're supposed to be?
- 1:33Today, Juliet and I are talking about her children, telling her it was finally her turn to return to shine.
- 1:39What reinvention can do in a long term marriage.
- 1:41Being misunderstood by other women, reclaiming the dreams you thought you left behind.
- 1:46And of course, what we can expect from the Real Housewives of London Season 2.
- 1:50This is Juliet Mayhew on the iconic Midlife.
- 1:53Ms.
- 1:53Juliet, welcome to the iconic Midlife.
- 1:56I'm so excited to have you here.
- 1:57I am so honored to be here.
- 1:58It's so exciting.
- 1:59The unstoppable hat just for you.
- 2:03I am so honored because, yes, we are unstoppable, aren't we?
- 2:06Like, yes, this is like the best time of midlife.
- 2:10So how has midlife treated you as of late?
- 2:14Well, you know what?
- 2:15I think I'm living my best life.
- 2:18You know what?
- 2:19I just feel like, when do you get a chance in your mid late 40s to go back to your first love and get your mojo back In a craft that you train for and you kind of set aside
- 2:29because.
- 2:30Because you've been wife and mother for 20 years.
- 2:32So I kind of feel like it's my new.
- 2:34My new glow up, my new time of blossoming.
- 2:37And, you know, I think I'm old enough and ugly enough to not give two hoots anymore.
- 2:41And that is refreshing.
- 2:43Do you know what I mean?
- 2:44We just get to the point where we're like, you do you, I do me, and it's gotta look very different to how other people see or put on you how you should be.
- 2:55And so as long as I'm kind of, you know, being honest and truthful with myself, acting with integrity, still staying in my main roles, which is wife and mother, which is so important, you know, keeping my true north.
- 3:07And I feel like I'm firing on all cylinders.
- 3:10Yes, 100%.
- 3:11You know what else I find is so interesting?
- 3:13I'm opening myself up to yes to saying yes to things that I may have not before.
- 3:18You know, it's like keeping the door open.
- 3:20I say yes to everything.
- 3:22Does it even when you don't want to.
- 3:24At times I think, you know what it's like.
- 3:30I.
- 3:31If it's fear that's driving you, I would say it's faith over fear.
- 3:35And why not just give it your best shot?
- 3:39Like, so when I say yes to everything, I mean that if opportunities come, I'm like, I'm not going to stop myself doing it because it's.
- 3:45I would, I don't want to be.
- 3:46Woulda, coulda, should have.
- 3:48I want to say, you know what, you gave it a go.
- 3:50You may have filled and flat in your face, but you know, pick yourself up again.
- 3:55And you've learned through that.
- 3:56And I'm teaching my children take risks every day.
- 3:59And if I don't take a risk and I'm scared of saying yes because I'm fearful of failing.
- 4:05Like, what sort of example is that showing them?
- 4:07So I think there's something that kind of happens where you just think.
- 4:12You stop caring what other people think and you just do it knowing this could be a last day on earth and you want to live at your best and give it your best.
- 4:19And I think there's something.
- 4:20I have a sustained energy which I, I see now is definitely from my father because he's abnormal.
- 4:25And I just recently saw him in Australia.
- 4:27I'm like, daddy, you do realize that we're not normal.
- 4:30He started laughing.
- 4:31I mean, he's 81, he's still working.
- 4:34His mind is so astute.
- 4:36He's.
- 4:37He's got a routine.
- 4:38He's up early, he goes through the day, he's exercising.
- 4:41I feel like he has given me and my mother as well the best foundation of just being driven and motivated with purpose and, you know, always Kappa full and just going with a vision.
- 4:53Yeah.
- 4:54And just letting it.
- 4:55Letting it guide him.
- 4:56Right.
- 4:56I.
- 4:57Yeah.
- 4:57There's verse in the month says when people have no vision, they perish.
- 5:01And I feel like we today can get so stuck in navel gazing and on what everyone else is doing, looking left and right, and it just stalls you.
- 5:12I think you just got to know where you're going and just go for it.
- 5:15And to not give as many fucks.
- 5:17Right.
- 5:17About what everyone else thinks.
- 5:19I'm like, why didn't I learn this lesson in life soon?
- 5:22You know, it's like it almost had to be at this point that it really kind of came to me.
- 5:27And I think it's something that just kind of happens as you get older.
- 5:30You stop.
- 5:31And I think, especially as an actor, you know, the insecurities that you have when you're rejected and you don't get the role.
- 5:39And, you know, I trained, like, as an actor, singer, dancer, a triple threat, so you're constantly in comparison mode.
- 5:46Like, why didn't I get it?
- 5:47Am I too ugly?
- 5:48Am I too thin?
- 5:49Am I too fat?
- 5:49Am I too tall?
- 5:50Am I too small?
- 5:51You know, am I too blonde?
- 5:52You don't know.
- 5:53Is it my est Freddie in like side to Me?
- 5:55Is it I'm not English enough?
- 5:56Or if I'm not, I'm not American enough or whatever.
- 5:58You're constantly trying to find a reason why you don't fit.
- 6:03And you just may not fit, but that's okay because you're unique and you're going to fit somewhere.
- 6:08But it takes, I think, some maturity and a different perspective in life and just to see things through a different lens as opposed to a lens of self being, self critical, self belief.
- 6:21Yeah, it is.
- 6:22You're absolutely right about that.
- 6:23And you mentioned a triple threat.
- 6:24I mean, your history is amazing.
- 6:26You've done the acting, you know, you've done the dancing and the singing.
- 6:29You've also been a mom and a wife, and you weren't an entrepreneur.
- 6:32You worn so many different hats.
- 6:34But now, coming back to the show, the Real Housewives of London, do you feel like you're coming back to yourself in a way?
- 6:42Like, in a way that you were originally, you know, intended?
- 6:45Is there like a kind of, you know, coming back to yourself?
- 6:49I Think you've hit the nail on the head.
- 6:51I think I always felt that something like this was gonna happen, and I'm gonna get emotional.
- 6:58I actually am feeling emotional, which is kind of crazy.
- 7:02Like, you look back at your younger self, and it wasn't that I didn't feel that I'd arrived when I was wife and mother.
- 7:07I felt like they're my best roles to date.
- 7:08But you think all of this work that you've done and your training, and this is very different because it's reality.
- 7:16But.
- 7:16But I think being in front of a camera and on the world stage is not.
- 7:23Is.
- 7:23Is.
- 7:23Is similar to what I was trained to do.
- 7:26And I feel now, in some ways that had I been given this opportunity 20 years ago, I would not have navigated it well.
- 7:33And I feel like it's all about timing.
- 7:35I believe in God's timing.
- 7:37I believe that, you know, for such a time as this, and I am very, very excited because I think I've had to live a life and lose and gain and go through pain and hardship and rejection and have
- 7:53incredible moments of celebration.
- 7:55And, you know, it's tough being a mommy and a wife in some.
- 7:59You know, there's highs and lows to those relationships, but those things have made me who I am.
- 8:06Those things have given me a sense of purpose and direction.
- 8:10And I think I'm better now in the role that I'm playing in my life as a platform.
- 8:18And I take this very seriously.
- 8:20Obviously, Housewives, a reality show, seeing our lives.
- 8:23But I believe that in parallel, you have this incredible platform, and you've got to be very intentional with that.
- 8:31And I think that is definitely the way I see it.
- 8:35I don't hold it lightly.
- 8:36I think you're given an opportunity.
- 8:38I think we are cool to be advocates, leaders.
- 8:41I think, you know, putting your best foot forward as, you know, a woman standing up for women in business, for children, for the underdog, speaking out for things that injustice.
- 8:51And I.
- 8:52Something I've always had on my heart.
- 8:53But I feel like now the platform can be used for good.
- 8:57So I think, yes, it's all evolved, and it's come round to a place where I feel like, now's the time.
- 9:04Yeah, now's the time.
- 9:05Yeah.
- 9:06What about the parts of you, the younger parts of you?
- 9:09Did you feel like you lost any part of you along the way to get here?
- 9:15Did I feel.
- 9:15No, because then I would live in regret, and I don't live in regret.
- 9:19I think that there is a time and a season for everything.
- 9:22I Do think, you know, as a trained actor, this is very different what I'm doing now.
- 9:27And in some ways, you've got to be even more authentic and astute and on it and clear and just so who you are because you've got the camera lens looking right through your soul.
- 9:40And I think if you're not.
- 9:42If you're not authentic, people call you out.
- 9:45And I think this is where I've kind of struggled in season one because I was being accused of the very things that I'm not.
- 9:51And I think probably that dislodged in me, like, hold on a minute.
- 9:56But it also, I think, deepen my purpose and my drive to make sure that I am always speaking truth and making sure that I am exactly who God's purposed me to be.
- 10:08Because you know that people can take anything you do and weaponize it, and that's what they do in the show.
- 10:14And I think that, you know, I am fortunate to have the acting background, so I know what I'm doing within my craft.
- 10:24And separating that in reality, you can't act.
- 10:27Reality.
- 10:29I mean, and it's not reality if you're acting.
- 10:32And I think when you say if I come back to my.
- 10:35Yeah, because I think it's given me the ability for something that I'd kind of hidden because I wasn't working in it in some ways, like people know me have said, I had no idea you had that other life
- 10:45as an actor.
- 10:46Because I was slotting into my role as wife and mother and loving that.
- 10:50And because when I was working as an actor, I felt like people either impressed with it or you're constantly like, they want to know what you're doing.
- 10:59And if you're not, then you're.
- 11:00Are you a failure of not working or are you a star if you are working?
- 11:04And I wanted people to love me for me, you know, flaws and all.
- 11:08Not with Juliet, the label, the actress, just Juliet.
- 11:11And so when I became wife and mother, it was almost like it's not like I left my old identity, but that was a season.
- 11:18So now pulling this through and now having an ability to acknowledge that that life that I lived is still within me and actually was big risk speaking up against about.
- 11:29Not against speaking up about my past because I'm the biggest self critique of myself.
- 11:37And I think it's really challenged me.
- 11:40Like, can I go back?
- 11:43And I am going back.
- 11:46Which is really exciting.
- 11:48Yes, absolutely.
- 11:49So what do you do when you feel like the camera's got it wrong or the edit is not the way you thought it played out.
- 11:56Like, how do you kind of sit with that in your own, you know, in your own being and, you know.
- 12:03Cause we see what the audience says or what they think and these things.
- 12:06But how do you as a person deal with that?
- 12:08Okay, that's a really good question, because I think that in season one, and keep in mind, we've just finished season two, and it airs on the 7th of September.
- 12:18Season one I found very difficult.
- 12:20First of all, I didn't want my children to be upset if I came home and talked about what had gone down.
- 12:25I also was very protective over my role in the show, and I didn't want my husband equally being upset.
- 12:31So I think I took a lot on board and I kept a lot inside and it ended up building within me.
- 12:39And I was very, A, defensive of the show, but B, having to take a lot.
- 12:43And I.
- 12:44I think there was parts of me that withdrew.
- 12:46You know, in my head I was like, I'm raising a lady and a gentleman, and I am not the character to rip women to shreds and scream like an old laundry lady, which is part of the course.
- 12:57I know we're talking conflict and resolution, but for me, it's like, I have not been raised like that.
- 13:03It's not how I feel a dignified lady should act.
- 13:06You know, I have my husband to think about.
- 13:10He is, you know, very well respected English gentleman.
- 13:13I honor him.
- 13:14My children, I don't want them to see that their mother has gone, like, completely cray cray and embarrass them.
- 13:22So a lot of the time it wasn't that I was not being real, but I was in scenarios that I wouldn't.
- 13:30You're not necessarily in those.
- 13:32In life, it's highly charged.
- 13:34You've got a camera in your face and sometimes you don't even know what you're saying because it's.
- 13:39It's so.
- 13:40You're so emotional and I feel like it was like daggers coming from every.
- 13:43So you're trying to like monitor it, understand it, because you don't know what's.
- 13:48What conversations they've had prior to coming into, perhaps.
- 13:54So I had some highs, but I definitely had some lows in that season because when your integrity and your business is being attacked and then ultimately there, you know, it comes down to the fact that you feel very
- 14:11protective over those things.
- 14:12You've worked very hard for that.
- 14:15And you know, ultimately, when they say nasty things, perhaps about marriage or relationships or people that you know or love, you want to defend.
- 14:22But I Think very much like the Queen.
- 14:25Don't complain, don't explain.
- 14:27And even in a way where the truth will come out.
- 14:30And often I think it's better to zip and then wait and these things will be seen.
- 14:35But equally, you know, people can misinterpret you.
- 14:38And I, I'm like, but that, that's not what happened.
- 14:41In a way, like, I feel misunderstood.
- 14:45I don't think I had my, my piece.
- 14:47I.
- 14:47I don't.
- 14:48That didn't.
- 14:48You're like, what my feeling is.
- 14:50It.
- 14:50It doesn't really matter on that.
- 14:52It's like the show is aired and people will have.
- 14:56You are going to be liked, that you are also not going to be liked.
- 15:00And you've got to be really happy with the fact that you're not going to be liked by your people.
- 15:05And that's.
- 15:05That's like life.
- 15:07So suck it up, buttercup.
- 15:08Do you know what I mean?
- 15:09And I think I'm very careful in what I read.
- 15:12I read what my publicist tells me to read.
- 15:14I don't listen to bottom feeders like that awful Reddit stuff, which is just bs.
- 15:20I worry about people who, what people who love me and I respect think about me and I will talk to them.
- 15:28The peripheral is just noise.
- 15:30And you know what?
- 15:32One thing that my best friend said to me, which is the best advice that I've carried into season two, when I'm a blubbering wreck and going, it's just so awful.
- 15:43And you know, the reunion was eight hours and seven and a half hours, are attacking me.
- 15:46It was all untruth.
- 15:48And she's like, they were attacking you for that amount of time.
- 15:50She's like, fantastic.
- 15:53You're like main character number one.
- 15:55Number two, she's like, you're making entertainment.
- 15:58You're not fighting a civil war.
- 15:59And she's really Australian.
- 16:00She's like, you're making entertainment.
- 16:03You're not fighting a civil war.
- 16:05She's like, like, grow a crocodile hide and.
- 16:08And like, suck it up.
- 16:09And I was like, oh, my gosh.
- 16:11Grow a crocodile hide and suck it up.
- 16:13That's like.
- 16:14I was like, thank you.
- 16:16I think.
- 16:17And do you know what?
- 16:18I have carried that through and you've probably heard me say that before because it was the best bit of advice.
- 16:24And I also, like, had people who'd gone before me, like Caroline Stanbry.
- 16:28She was brilliant.
- 16:30I had chats with, you know, other housewives.
- 16:33I mean, I've just been with Dorinda Medley.
- 16:34She was fantastic.
- 16:35Cynthia Bailey, unbelievable.
- 16:37I mean, we're Talking well seasoned housewives.
- 16:41I was speaking with Erica Jane and Sat and they were.
- 16:43And Kathy Hilton, actually, that were recently in London.
- 16:45And they're like, no one understands more than a housewife.
- 16:49No one knows what you're going through.
- 16:50So there's an immediate sisterhood and you get it.
- 16:53And I think that's been amazing for me as well.
- 16:56Just to have that advice, have people who've gone before me, like almost big sisters are mentors in a way.
- 17:01It's like.
- 17:02And.
- 17:02And they're so easily able to park it.
- 17:05So I've had to learn as an acting job would be, you do a role which I was doing at the beginning.
- 17:12I went to work, I did my job and I came back and was.
- 17:15What was happening is this.
- 17:16It's across the cross wires.
- 17:19Because a lot of those girls take it into the social scene.
- 17:22So you don't.
- 17:23They'll be talking about what went on and you're thinking, hold on a minute.
- 17:27I segregated my job.
- 17:29I don't go out of my job and discuss it like that is a private situation.
- 17:33But of course it's not because it's reality and there is emotions and people get very upset and caught up in it and becomes their life in a sense.
- 17:41Like, that's all I've got, thank God.
- 17:43I've got other things in my life.
- 17:45So I keep busy with actual having jobs and a bigger picture.
- 17:51It doesn't take away from the fact that I'm a housewife and I love that.
- 17:54And I've.
- 17:54I give my all to it, but running alongside in parallel.
- 17:58I'm still a wife and still a mother.
- 17:59I still have jobs that I do and I'm still very involved with all the things that I've been involved in before.
- 18:03And they want that.
- 18:04I mean, that makes a more interesting housewife.
- 18:06Let's be honest.
- 18:07You've got more to give, so, yeah, I think you have to just grow into it, really.
- 18:14And I think more time goes on.
- 18:16I really pray we get season three.
- 18:18It would be awesome.
- 18:19And this has longevity and I think we're a spicy show and I think we've got a lot to give.
- 18:24And they've cast it so well that every single one of us has a uniqueness and a gift and we bring it.
- 18:30And I think that long way more may we go on.
- 18:33I mean, look at the.
- 18:35Look at the OGs.
- 18:35Look at the Beverly Hills.
- 18:36Like it's insane.
- 18:37And that new cast, it's brilliant.
- 18:38One of my best friends is on the cast.
- 18:40Tracy Tudor.
- 18:41Oh, I love Tracy.
- 18:42Oh, she's gonna.
- 18:43She's gonna bring it.
- 18:45I reckon the girls like better, like, hold onto their pants.
- 18:48And you know what?
- 18:49She's so beautiful.
- 18:51I mean, I was just literally looking, like, when it was announced.
- 18:54Her body, like, the way she is.
- 18:55She's like.
- 18:55She's fit, you know, she is a full package, that girl.
- 18:58She's the real deal.
- 19:00Yeah.
- 19:00She's smart.
- 19:01Yes.
- 19:01Like that.
- 19:02That's gonna be great tv.
- 19:03Yes.
- 19:04Yes.
- 19:04I can't wait.
- 19:05I mean, it's gonna be so good.
- 19:06So good.
- 19:07But I also wanted to know because you and Tiggy have been married for, what, almost two decades now?
- 19:11So when you're on a show like this and so many parts of your private life, you know, is exposed, how do you protect your marriage?
- 19:18Is it something where it's like you guys just already have an understanding where you were going into this and, you know, you.
- 19:24You know what you're getting into?
- 19:26Or do you, like, check in with each other and kind of be like, you know, this is.
- 19:30Something's coming down the pipeline that might not be so cute and, like, you know, how do you navigate that?
- 19:35Well, I think through life.
- 19:36I mean, if you've got through 20 years, and I have to say he's a saint to deal with me for 20 years, you know, you have already set a precedent of keeping short accounts.
- 19:48Trust, respect, and friendship, which is the three key things to hold, I think, any relationship together.
- 19:57I think because he met me as an actor, he had seen all of that.
- 20:01He'd come and see me perform and see me on stage.
- 20:04This is not new for him.
- 20:05It's just that for 20 years, I was out of the business, focusing on what I was called to do at that time, which to give to my beautiful children.
- 20:13And that's not stopped, but they're, you know, they're fleeing the nest.
- 20:17So dynamics have shifted.
- 20:19And, you know, he's really excited about this for me.
- 20:24If he wasn't, I wouldn't be here because I would not risk my marriage to him.
- 20:32And he comes first.
- 20:33And the life of my children as a.
- 20:35As a mother, so first and foremost, I think it's making sure my priorities are correct.
- 20:40Yes.
- 20:40I think I've probably protected more than I should in that I didn't want him to know all the details of what was going on the show because I didn't want him to be upset because he's over his.
- 20:49Protected of me, of course.
- 20:50Protective of me, of course, as any man who loves his wife would be.
- 20:55But I'm very Transparent.
- 20:57Like, if I'm not coping, he will know.
- 21:00He is always underpinned.
- 21:03He's got.
- 21:04He's.
- 21:04He knows who he is.
- 21:06He's got such maturity.
- 21:07He's such a good, kind man that I feel that he.
- 21:11And he's unwavering.
- 21:13You know, that is so rare in a man.
- 21:15I feel like you would need that.
- 21:17Right.
- 21:19He angers me.
- 21:20Like, he's like this.
- 21:22And I'm like.
- 21:24I mean, he's kind of like, had to bring me down a bit.
- 21:26And I think that.
- 21:27But that's what makes our marriage so interesting and fun and spicy and fabulous and why we're probably still together.
- 21:33But I do think, you know, we have date nights.
- 21:37We prioritize.
- 21:38In fact, this is the longest stint I've been away from him my entire life.
- 21:41How long has it been?
- 21:42It's going to be a month all up.
- 21:44Wow.
- 21:44I did 17 days when I took a team up to the summit of Kilimanjaro.
- 21:48And that for me was, like, so full on.
- 21:51This is a month.
- 21:53But we talk every day.
- 21:54We message.
- 21:55He is cheerleading me on.
- 21:57I wouldn't be able to do this if I didn't know he was comfortable with it.
- 22:02And equally, I think love is about freedom.
- 22:05And he has.
- 22:06We have.
- 22:07We've so much trust for one another that we have this freedom.
- 22:10You know, I want him living his best life.
- 22:13He wants me living my best life.
- 22:15He is my biggest cheerleader.
- 22:16He brings out the best of me.
- 22:18And he's constantly sewing and pouring into me to make that flourish.
- 22:22I mean, he is self.
- 22:25Selfless.
- 22:26And I think he shows that, you know, actions speak louder than words, and he's always done that.
- 22:32And I feel so privileged to call him my partner for life, my soulmate, because I think that's very rare.
- 22:38Is something that I treasure.
- 22:41It's not something I take advantage of at all.
- 22:42Because, you know, we.
- 22:43Life.
- 22:44We're fragile beings, and I think it's investing in that.
- 22:47And.
- 22:48But I think I'm a better wife because I'm living my best life and he loves it.
- 22:55I mean, look, what, a husband doesn't love your wife dressing up, being glamorous and needing.
- 23:00And needing his attention, especially when the girls are being mean to me.
- 23:04Like, he's like, darling, come, you know, you know, and obviously, you know, I'm fiery and, you know, makeup sex is great.
- 23:12So there.
- 23:14They have.
- 23:14Men have needs, but women have needs.
- 23:16And, you know, we are.
- 23:18We have a healthy marriage.
- 23:20And I invest in him and he invests in me, and I think we also need to show that to the children.
- 23:27The children flourish when we flourish.
- 23:30And I think there is an order in that.
- 23:32And, you know, I always argue when people say to me, oh, it's all about my children.
- 23:36I'm like, no, you.
- 23:38It's.
- 23:38It's first wife, then mother.
- 23:40Because if they don't see you in a healthy relationship with your partner, and however those that partnership looks like, you know, that's the security net.
- 23:50And they're looking up to you at how you're reacting, how you're communicating with one another, and that's their stability.
- 23:58And so for me, it's really important that we're healthy.
- 24:01So how do you check in with each other?
- 24:03Like, how do you kind of go if you feel like you're going off the track?
- 24:06Like, how do you usually pull it back in with him?
- 24:10It's time.
- 24:11It's quality time.
- 24:12I think that we are intentional when we spend time.
- 24:17Like, we will do dates where the phone goes down and we just look into each other's eyes and talk.
- 24:22Often we'll do something like, what's been really fun, actually, with, you know, this job is that I'm doing a lot of red carpets.
- 24:30You know, you need to be seen on, you need to be seen out.
- 24:33You know, it's part of.
- 24:33Part of the course when you become a personality.
- 24:37He loves it.
- 24:37He comes as my bodyguard and my photographer.
- 24:39And, you know, we have a great date night out.
- 24:41We'll go to film premieres.
- 24:42You know, we'll go to beautiful restaurants.
- 24:44You know, we always did that.
- 24:46But now it's like he loves it because he's, you know, he's like, I'm not having a photo taken.
- 24:51You get all the photos taken.
- 24:52He just admires.
- 24:53He loves it.
- 24:54He giggles at me.
- 24:56In fact, you know, he really, like.
- 24:58My children and my husband keep me really grounded because they just take the mick out of me all the time.
- 25:03And I was like, just in Sydney.
- 25:05I'm like, you know, honey, I've got, like, bodyguards with me.
- 25:08He like.
- 25:08He's like, whatever.
- 25:10He's like, have you got your bodyguards with you?
- 25:12I'm like, well, honey, no, because I'm, like, just going around to the corner of the chocolate.
- 25:15But he just.
- 25:17Every single thing they make, they like, they laugh.
- 25:22They keep me so grounded, so humble.
- 25:24My children would just give me one look, like, eye roll, and I'd be like, like, really, Mommy, it's not all about you.
- 25:29I'm like, yeah, it is all about me.
- 25:31No, Mommy, it is not you know, and they.
- 25:34We have a, you know, we also have very good sense of humor, both of us.
- 25:38So we laugh a lot and I think when things get stressful, we're able to deal with them.
- 25:44We have a faith.
- 25:45I think definitely our faith has held us together.
- 25:48He's got a deep faith.
- 25:49I have a deep faith.
- 25:50And I think those things when the shit hits the fan, so to say, you know, prayer together, Prayer is key.
- 25:57Has been key in our marriage and something I am so grateful for because there is a bigger perspective.
- 26:03And when you think all is lost, you know, that higher being God, you know, you know, you know that you're safe and that is, you know, I was actually listening to Dolly Parton, like all her anecdotal, you know,
- 26:17it's tragic.
- 26:18She has passed and she was one of my superheroes, the best, honestly.
- 26:23I mean, 3,000, what was it, 3,000 songs she wrote.
- 26:26There is something so endearing about her.
- 26:28She was super smart.
- 26:31She laughed a lot, took the mick out of herself.
- 26:33I think I do that a lot.
- 26:34I laugh a lot and I do take the make out of myself.
- 26:36I don't take life too seriously.
- 26:38But she had a faith and I think that kept her grounded and I think that is, you know, kept me and grounded and kept, I think, definitely has held our marriage together because nothing is too big for God.
- 26:54And we have made a covenant before God within our marriage to be together.
- 26:59And so however difficult it gets, separating is not ever going to come into our vocabulary.
- 27:04We have to work this through.
- 27:05We're in it to win it and we're in it for life.
- 27:08And I think when two people go into a marriage like that, then you know, it's, it's a good thing because you're not looking left and right.
- 27:18You're like, we, we have to solve whatever issue we have.
- 27:22We have responsibility to one another.
- 27:24So I think that's definitely something, you know, looking at key tips, you know, I would say that's number one.
- 27:33Quality time, the acts of service, you know, the love language.
- 27:37What is your love language?
- 27:38Is it.
- 27:38Well, mine is actually.
- 27:39I mean, obviously my husband's physical touch, that's probably most metal.
- 27:44So gifts.
- 27:45I like all the gifts.
- 27:47Gifting both of us.
- 27:48Love, quality time, acts of service.
- 27:52Like, oh, my gosh, he is amazing.
- 27:55Like, do you think I ever change a light bulb?
- 27:58Absolutely.
- 27:58Do you think I ever fill my car with petrol?
- 28:00Absolutely not.
- 28:02And I get in my car, it's always full of.
- 28:03It's always, I mean, like, he's just a Saint like that.
- 28:06You know, I'm different.
- 28:08He's like, why do you run the car to red?
- 28:11And I'm like, because I've got another 10 miles.
- 28:13He's like, but you may not.
- 28:14You may break down.
- 28:15I'm like, oh, I'm sure.
- 28:16I always do.
- 28:17And he's like, I.
- 28:17I don't get that.
- 28:18So we really do compliment each other.
- 28:21So.
- 28:21Yes.
- 28:21Accessor.
- 28:22What else?
- 28:22Oh, words of affirmation.
- 28:25And he does.
- 28:26He's like, honey looks so beautiful.
- 28:28And you know what?
- 28:29That goes so far.
- 28:30Like honey.
- 28:32You know, he just says a few words.
- 28:33I'm like, whatever you want.
- 28:34Good to know.
- 28:35Okay, so it's.
- 28:36You guys match up on a lot of different things, which is nice.
- 28:39We are very different, but we have worked out how our differences bring us together.
- 28:46I mean, if we were same.
- 28:47Same.
- 28:47I mean, if he was far as me, I would be a disaster.
- 28:51Yeah.
- 28:52So here's calm wisdom and my impulsive craziness, like, gel together.
- 28:57Okay.
- 28:57You come across as this, like, street shooter, you know, Australian.
- 29:02Like, I love all that, the qualities of that that you have.
- 29:05And then now you're in London, you know, so you're kind of navigating a little bit more of like a kind can be stuffy society kind of a world.
- 29:14How do you kind of, you know, live between?
- 29:16Right, so I'm half British.
- 29:19Oh, okay, so you are half.
- 29:20Okay.
- 29:21Not full Australian.
- 29:22And I mean, I would say I'm full Australian, but I do have two passports and my parents are.
- 29:27You know, we've got British heritage.
- 29:29In fact, my lineage goes back to King Edward the first of England.
- 29:31Yes, it does.
- 29:32And sometimes I argue with my husband saying, you know what?
- 29:34My blood is more blue than yours.
- 29:36Like, it's blue, honey.
- 29:37It's blue and maybe bluer.
- 29:40So, you know, I mean, I remember growing up when my mother was.
- 29:44Elbows off the table, hold your knife and foot properly, speak clearly.
- 29:47You know, she'd always send me to elocution lessons.
- 29:50And then I went to drama school, but I also went to drama school, boarding school in England from 12.
- 29:55So when on my.
- 29:56On my Instagram, this Aussie heart, sorry, Aussie soul, British heart, that really is who I am.
- 30:01So I think, how do I navigate British society?
- 30:05I mean, I think going from a jillaroo cowboy town as a Queenslander, which is a little small town, very special farming community, to a Rothschild mansion, living in King Charles, the first bedroom, wearing a boater, white gloves and
- 30:23curtsying.
- 30:24There's a juxtaposition there.
- 30:26But you Know what both of them make me.
- 30:28And it prepared me for my life.
- 30:32And so not only as an actor, but I think what I then went on to do, man, I married what those responsibilities his wife has bought over the time that I've been married to him.
- 30:44You know, I've been to Buckingham palace for lunch.
- 30:47I've had incredible, extraordinary opportunities around the world.
- 30:51I've lived in five different continents.
- 30:53I think that diversity has, you know, molded who I am.
- 30:59So being in London and being, as you say, British, it's.
- 31:04It's not something that I, you know, it's just water off a duck's back.
- 31:07You just.
- 31:08I just blend.
- 31:09It's where you are and it's.
- 31:10I think that probably to an extent is also.
- 31:14I had to survive as a young girl, really, coming twelve and a half thousand miles away from your home and commuting.
- 31:22I had to be independent.
- 31:23Young.
- 31:24I was working as an actor.
- 31:25Young.
- 31:25My first job, I was 16.
- 31:28And then really I was working as a professional actor.
- 31:31Then onwards, you know, 18, I was 17, half 18.
- 31:34I was living in London independently and working through.
- 31:38Going through drama school.
- 31:40So I think you become a survivor and you just have to work out how to be in any scenario you're in.
- 31:51But I certainly think the privilege of what I've been exposed to has probably set me up in.
- 31:57In a very good way to communicate, to gel with different people from different backgrounds.
- 32:04And I would hope always to be open and humble.
- 32:08You never know anyone's story.
- 32:10You.
- 32:11You don't know where.
- 32:12What.
- 32:12What's behind that.
- 32:13And so to go in assuming always the best of people and wanting to get to know them and not being intimidated.
- 32:22I don't think I've ever been intimidated.
- 32:23And I think that's because, you know, I've.
- 32:27I don't know, I.
- 32:28I just think we're all human.
- 32:30We all bleed the same blood.
- 32:31It's not that I'm not respectful.
- 32:32I'm very respectful of people, but I think I'm expectant.
- 32:37I feel like I have a place in the room, at the table.
- 32:39And I think in life we need to feel like we have a place at the table and not be held back by our insecurities.
- 32:47Yes.
- 32:47Particularly in midlife, when many women can feel like they're fading away, you know, like really feeling like you deserve that spot and going for it, you know, there's nothing that should be holding you back.
- 32:58I agree.
- 32:59Yeah.
- 32:59What do you say to women like that, that feel may be stuck or feel like maybe they need, you know, they're fading away.
- 33:04I think that I want to give them a big hug and I want them to know that they're loved, they're unique, they're created in the image of God and they have a purpose.
- 33:14And I feel like I want to let them know that there is someone cheering them on.
- 33:19And I think what happens is, is that we get into ruts and then our confidence depletes.
- 33:25And you know, maybe there's been a marriage, separation, maybe they've lost their job, they're searching for their identity.
- 33:32You know, your hormones are all over the place and you know, tragedy hits and you know, that is a very real thing.
- 33:41And you know, you can't number your days.
- 33:45You don't know what's going to happen.
- 33:46Illness may strike.
- 33:48And I think that, you know, we all need a friend, we need to be kind to one another.
- 33:53You know, what I say to my children is, you can achieve the world, but if you're not a kind person and you're cool to be in relationship with people you don't want to isolate.
- 34:03So your most important tool is to navigate and communicate and be a good person and a kind person.
- 34:09So I would love to just say to those women, you know, get yourself in a company of women who are going to cheerlead you on.
- 34:17There is always people out there.
- 34:18And I would say to anyone who, you know, may want to dismiss that person, don't.
- 34:25Because you don't know what's happened.
- 34:27You don't know the story behind the story.
- 34:29And I think we need to understand that the world is a tough place and we're certainly not in an easy situation politically, financially.
- 34:40There's disasters happening.
- 34:42I mean, you look at the fires in Algeria, you look at the floods in Nepal, there are things that happen in life that we have no hand on, but we just have to navigate when they hit.
- 34:53And so I would say don't look left and right, keep looking north.
- 34:59Give yourself a break.
- 35:01Have little goals, not massive goals.
- 35:04Take each day at a time and you know, try and align yourself with like minded people who are, you know, holding your hand, pulling you along and, you know, encouraging you.
- 35:17Yeah.
- 35:18Going back to your Buckingham palace lunch, who was that with?
- 35:22Please tell me a little more.
- 35:24So that was Princess Anne.
- 35:25Okay.
- 35:25Yeah.
- 35:26It was wonderful.
- 35:26I have met the Queen and I've met the King.
- 35:28Okay.
- 35:29But the lunch was with Princess.
- 35:31It was beautiful.
- 35:31It was actually a private lunch.
- 35:33There was about 14 of us.
- 35:34Okay.
- 35:34It was quite an amazing day to be able to, you know, go to the palace Right.
- 35:41And be in the dining room and just experience that.
- 35:45Again, it was for a charity that we have been involved in and I mean a huge honor.
- 35:51She is a brilliant woman.
- 35:53All the royals have got a wicked sense of humor and just know how to work a room.
- 35:59I mean, I remember when I met our king, he was the prince then.
- 36:04He knew more about me than I knew about myself.
- 36:06They do their homework and he's like, Juliet, how have you navigated coming from Australia and being married to hedge funder and who's British and you know, you were at school, at boarding school in this country.
- 36:15I mean, he, I was like, oh, my God.
- 36:18I wasn't the only person he was talking to that night.
- 36:21Like, they are their aides.
- 36:24They are so well versed, which shows such great respect for the people they're talking to.
- 36:29Like, this is now our future king and they take their role to serve the people very seriously.
- 36:38And our late queen, I mean, she was extraordinary how she served the people and what she did for our country over the years.
- 36:49And I'm saying our country is in Great Britain as a Londoner and as the common for the Commonwealth.
- 36:55I mean, I'm Australian and we, we love our royals.
- 36:58Well, personally, I'm, I'm a royalist.
- 37:00Not everyone does, but I have always been a ruler.
- 37:03So.
- 37:03Yeah, that was a wonderful day when I will never forget a pinch me moment.
- 37:10There have been some pinch me moments in my life, and that's certainly one of them.
- 37:14Okay, well, what about, what do you think about Harry and Megan coming back?
- 37:17Oh, that's controversial.
- 37:19Yes, it sure is.
- 37:20I was actually the rural correspondent for their wedding.
- 37:23Oh, you were for Fox in Washington, so over seven years ago, right?
- 37:28Yeah.
- 37:29And I think there's been, look, there's been a lot of press of will they last the test of time while they have.
- 37:34And for me, I'm happy about that.
- 37:36I don't want to see any marriage falling apart, especially with two beautiful children.
- 37:41Look, Harry is loved, deeply loved.
- 37:45And everyone still, still, everyone loves a comeback moment.
- 37:48You know, one thing I'll say about the British, like Winston Churchill, if you look like when the chips are down and we will back an underdog and we will cheerlead them on.
- 37:58So you know what?
- 38:00Maybe coming with his tail between his legs back is a really good thing.
- 38:04And I don't know, I hope, I hope they flourish.
- 38:07I don't want to see someone pummeled and I want, I think, you know, their father is not, you know, he's getting older and you know, I Think it's important.
- 38:16Like, we.
- 38:17I've just spent this incredible time with my own parents.
- 38:20I mean, I cried every day at the thought of having to return to England.
- 38:23You know, you only have your parents for so long.
- 38:26And I think for him to be far away and them not seeing the children grow, I think it's a tragedy.
- 38:33So I would say let's pray that there's going to be unity and there's going to be a comeback moment.
- 38:37And he's going.
- 38:39She's going to really turn around and show us she wants to be part of our society.
- 38:44Yeah.
- 38:45Instead of dismissing it and saying, oh, you never welcomed us.
- 38:48That was not true.
- 38:49You know, my girlfriend runs their mental health charity.
- 38:52Oh, really?
- 38:52Yes.
- 38:53And she's a phenomenal, phenomenal woman.
- 38:55And I've known her a very long time, and she's worked very closely with both Harry and William, and they've done a lot with that mental health care.
- 39:02It's been incredible.
- 39:03And I'm also friends with their aide when they were young, who actually walked with them behind their mother's coffin.
- 39:09So I've got friends within, you know, their life in their world.
- 39:13And of course, they opened arms and embraced her and were there with her.
- 39:17It was whether her choice, if she wanted to take it.
- 39:19I thought that interview with Oprah was diabolical.
- 39:23I mean, you attack the family.
- 39:25You.
- 39:25You attack the integrity of the family, you know, the country per se, and, you know, women, and the fact that, you know, it was all the things that we should guard and hold tight.
- 39:38And I just think to go on Oprah to do that, that was.
- 39:41That was not a great move as far as I'm concerned.
- 39:43But you know what?
- 39:44As I say, everyone makes mistakes, and maybe she's coming back for a second chance.
- 39:49Could you imagine if Megan joined the Real House?
- 39:51That would be.
- 39:53I mean, how do you think that would go over?
- 39:55Well, let's.
- 39:57Let's see how she cope with the.
- 39:58With the girls.
- 40:00I mean, we've got, like, some rottweilers in our cast.
- 40:02Let's be honest.
- 40:04Who do you think that she would have the most, like, you know, problem with?
- 40:08Like, what would be.
- 40:09Who would she rub wrong?
- 40:11Ooh.
- 40:14I wouldn't like to say.
- 40:16I would like to say I'm looking at all the personalities of all of them.
- 40:21I mean, she might flipping annoy all of us, but she might be loved and really dynamic.
- 40:27Who knows?
- 40:27I can't believe that we're discussing whether she's joining the cast or not.
- 40:30Like, it's like it's happening.
- 40:32Like, yeah, Megan's joining the cast.
- 40:34I mean, we're putting it out there.
- 40:35This is manifesting 101.
- 40:39Oh, my gosh.
- 40:40Oh, my God.
- 40:41That would be just a huge.
- 40:43I think that would be huge for the show, right?
- 40:46Everyone would watch.
- 40:47Everyone would watch.
- 40:49Absolutely.
- 40:51I'm like, we're putting it out there.
- 40:52Okay, people.
- 40:54My people will stick to your people.
- 40:56I mean, yeah, we'll get this going.
- 40:58We'll get this going.
- 40:59Okay.
- 40:59Season two of the.
- 41:01Oh, my God.
- 41:02Okay, first of all, what did you learn from season one that you carried into season two?
- 41:07Like, were there, like, any lessons?
- 41:09I don't like when people do gang ups and, you know, say mean things and speak behind your back constantly and try and build, like, allies to take you down.
- 41:22Like, that's just mean, girl.
- 41:24And that's like, reminds me of school.
- 41:27And bullying is the worst thing.
- 41:30And I think that, you know, I say things for truth, not for popularity votes.
- 41:36So I think going into the show in season one, I was bamboozled.
- 41:43I didn't know where things were coming from.
- 41:45And I also.
- 41:46Everyone was getting to know each other.
- 41:48Like, I was the first they cast and kind of brought everyone together.
- 41:50I knew everyone but the friendships within the groups.
- 41:53And I didn't want to try and, you know, put any opinion on anyone in the group for someone to pick up and, you know, have my allies.
- 42:03I don't like her because X I was like, my past with anyone or what my experience is, is my experience.
- 42:09And I should not be putting my impression or giving that opinion to anyone.
- 42:14They need to understand those people themselves and form their own opinions.
- 42:19And in life, I think that's really important.
- 42:20I hate this, like, gang up or she said, he said, and you have to be my friend and not her friend.
- 42:26Like, that is like, so, like third grade.
- 42:30But unfortunately, a lot of that happened.
- 42:33So I felt a bit of a loner and I.
- 42:37It was kind of called out that I was on an island when I went have gone back into season because I felt like on the defense.
- 42:43But that was called survival.
- 42:46So I think season two, I just really had to say, you know what, Jules, you're okay.
- 42:50You got this.
- 42:53I'm not going anywhere.
- 42:55Like, they're not booting me off the show and that's her intention.
- 42:58It ain't happening.
- 42:59I will leave the show when it's time for me to leave the show.
- 43:02Not because someone wants to bully me off the show because they're intimidated by me, like, or they don't like me.
- 43:07Or I'm.
- 43:08I have a place at the table and I will stay there.
- 43:11And they need to, you know, stop speaking untruths about me and I need to stand up for myself.
- 43:16So I just had to, like, speak that into me.
- 43:20I mean, it is actually quite.
- 43:24I don't know, you really learn a lot about yourself when you're under the spotlight like that.
- 43:29I can imagine it must be such a test.
- 43:31Yeah.
- 43:32To really, I mean, you.
- 43:33I naturally, I would imagine that you question certain things.
- 43:36Like, you know, you're kind of reevaluating and trying to see, like, wait, is this me?
- 43:42Like, do I do that?
- 43:43So every single for instance, interaction, you think I may say, oh, my gosh, I love your dress.
- 43:53And then I'm like, why are you talking about my dress?
- 43:55Like, do you know what I mean?
- 43:57Like, you've got it.
- 43:58Everything is turned right.
- 43:59That's how I felt that there was literally to the point where I'm like, I can't even open my mouth without this being turned on me.
- 44:06Like, oh, she's acting like a victim.
- 44:08No, I just don't want to be involved.
- 44:09Like, can't you just respect my boundary?
- 44:12Not acting like a victim.
- 44:13I just not getting involved because it's nastiness.
- 44:16And so I'm gonna stay in my lane and you will have to respect that.
- 44:20So I just had to, like, I suppose, work out how that works in the show.
- 44:27Ah, okay.
- 44:28Do you know what I mean?
- 44:28Yeah.
- 44:29I think that those.
- 44:30You don't know what you're.
- 44:31We didn't know what we were going into in season two.
- 44:34We didn't know what we're going through in season one.
- 44:35So you take each day as it comes.
- 44:38You just, you're in the moment.
- 44:42And the other thing is to understand that, you know, so when they film, you know, they want to.
- 44:48They don't want you discussing things separately.
- 44:51They want it happening on camera.
- 44:53So it's fluid, which makes a good show.
- 44:55Right.
- 44:56But you know, if you've had a massive bust up with a good friend, you want to get to the bottom of it.
- 45:02You can't wait.
- 45:03Right, Right.
- 45:04So those things are hard because they're like, no, we're not going to discuss this until we film you again.
- 45:08And you're like, no, because I have to sit in this and I want to sort it.
- 45:12Those things are hard.
- 45:13Okay, but that's just part of the course.
- 45:15But do people talk anyway behind the scenes?
- 45:18Like, if you've had like a big fight with somebody and it is your good friend I mean, is that so they.
- 45:24Is it realistic for them to expect you not to say anything?
- 45:27I don't.
- 45:27It's very difficult.
- 45:28But, you know, I respect, you know, the fact that I'm doing the show and it's.
- 45:33It's reality, you know, and you will see in season two how, you know, the camera follows you, and when trauma happens, you're in the moment.
- 45:44And I.
- 45:45I think it's really important for viewers to see the fluidity of how that goes, because if suddenly it's been resolved, they're like, trying to pin it together.
- 45:54What do you mean?
- 45:55How did that resolve?
- 45:56So I.
- 45:57I do think there is reason to the rhyme.
- 46:00So you just have to, like, suck it up.
- 46:02You've signed up for the show, so you've got to suck it up.
- 46:04Yeah, but it is hard emotionally.
- 46:06Right.
- 46:06Because you're.
- 46:07You're sitting with that.
- 46:08Right?
- 46:08Yeah.
- 46:09And you're not, like, getting any resolution whatsoever.
- 46:11And the show is conflict resolution.
- 46:13Right.
- 46:14So you have to go with it.
- 46:17Gosh, that's hard.
- 46:18And you're going through, like, periods of time.
- 46:21It's not like it's just tomorrow you're filming again.
- 46:23Oh, no, it's.
- 46:26There's like a build up there.
- 46:27Yeah, it's like.
- 46:28It's like, you know, makes good telly.
- 46:30Yeah, it does.
- 46:31It does.
- 46:31That's why people keep tuning in, because you're like, oh, my God, what's going to happen next?
- 46:35Okay, that's interesting.
- 46:36So what three words would you use to describe season two?
- 46:42Oh, my gosh.
- 46:44I would say definitely fiery.
- 46:50There's fun.
- 46:52We can't.
- 46:52We can't take away from the fun.
- 46:55And it's pretty voracious.
- 46:56Okay.
- 46:57Yeah.
- 46:57Okay.
- 46:58Yeah.
- 46:58Fiery.
- 46:59Voracious.
- 47:00And.
- 47:01And fun.
- 47:01And fun.
- 47:02How do you guys.
- 47:03How do you resolve that?
- 47:04Like, if you've had a bad fight with somebody, like, do you.
- 47:07Can you truly become friends again after you get hurt so publicly?
- 47:12Yeah.
- 47:12So that is something I'm navigating.
- 47:15Because, you know, the show's not gonna work if you can't resolve.
- 47:18Right.
- 47:19And I think you've gotta just really dig deep.
- 47:22It is hard through life.
- 47:23Cause you make decisions to set boundaries, and that's certainly me.
- 47:27And I think trust is earned.
- 47:30And if you've had your trust completely broken, you know, it takes time, and that is reality.
- 47:37You can't fake that.
- 47:38Right.
- 47:39So I think, you know, but I think you definitely have to have grace and probably give more benefit of the doubt than you probably normally would in life.
- 47:46You just wouldn't Navigate those things, you just say, okay, that, that's too much hard work for me.
- 47:52That is a complex relationship.
- 47:54We're never going to be best friends.
- 47:55I'm going to walk away from it.
- 47:56When you're doing a show, you have to find a way to resolve it and you just got to be mature about it.
- 48:02It's not all about you.
- 48:03There's a bigger picture involved and we are cast together.
- 48:08It's not a one woman show.
- 48:10So you have to find a way that you can make it work for everyone.
- 48:13Because you want the show to be a success.
- 48:15Yeah.
- 48:15So you can't be selfish.
- 48:16Yes.
- 48:17Yeah.
- 48:17You can't be selfish about it.
- 48:18You just have to, really.
- 48:19But it's hard emotionally.
- 48:21It's very hard.
- 48:22You know, forgiveness is something in life that, you know what bitterness eats you up.
- 48:27So you've got to learn to be quick to forgive, keep short accounts and give benefit of the doubt.
- 48:34Right.
- 48:35For your own mental health and your own emotion, you know, emotional health because.
- 48:38And you know, think of the best of people, not of the worst.
- 48:40I think of the best.
- 48:41I don't think that people are necessarily going to want to like try and destroy me.
- 48:46I mean, it's very important, pretty ferocious.
- 48:50But I always think, give them the benefit of the doubt.
- 48:54I mean, that's probably for my own mental health.
- 48:55You just have to.
- 48:57And I'm a happy, go, lucky person.
- 48:58It's an Australianism of me and I just think I've always been a cup half full.
- 49:02So I think people can't really be that bad, can they?
- 49:04Sometimes they are.
- 49:06You'll be surprised.
- 49:09And you know what, actually when they are, you think that comes out of their own brokenness.
- 49:14Yeah.
- 49:15It's almost like compassion.
- 49:16Right.
- 49:16So you have to have compassion because you think for them to actually behave as badly as they are, there's something pretty awful that they're navigating because people project like that.
- 49:28I mean, how do they feel about themselves?
- 49:30Right.
- 49:30There's trauma.
- 49:31There's trauma.
- 49:31There's trauma behind it.
- 49:32Yes, absolutely.
- 49:34So what was the thing that surprised you the most about season two?
- 49:39There is definitely shift in friendships, which I think will.
- 49:43It didn't only surprise me, but it'll probably very much surprise the audience.
- 49:49I get my mojo back and you know, reconnect with my razzle dazzle, which I'm probably surprised at myself because that's a big risk to take in front of the world and you know, because you've got everything to lose.
- 50:07But I just thought, well, if I fail, I Fail.
- 50:11But at least I've given it a go.
- 50:12And you know, if I'm doing it in front of the world or I'm just doing it in front of my husband, so be it.
- 50:18I don't have pride.
- 50:19Like, I, you know what I mean?
- 50:21I'm like, I just, I'm just gonna go and do it.
- 50:25So that surprised me that I was like, why did I just go and do this in front of the world?
- 50:31Make a massive cock up and fall flat on my face or not?
- 50:34Yeah, why not?
- 50:35That's sensible.
- 50:36Makes sense.
- 50:36Makes sense.
- 50:37You know what, once I come in, I'm full in.
- 50:39So I'd made a commitment, I was full in.
- 50:41Do you know what I mean?
- 50:42No, absolutely.
- 50:43You know what if it.
- 50:44People have such a short term memory anyway, it's like, sure, like for the next six months or whatever, in five years, people are not going to sit there and be like, what did you do five years ago?
- 50:55And you know what?
- 50:56This is where I really needed to learn.
- 50:58Like, people would say like, who's gonna remember that scene?
- 51:01I'm like, I remembered it and it was so not what happened.
- 51:04And I'm so upset about it.
- 51:05And.
- 51:06And they're like, I actually, my grandma's like, Juliet, like they can't even remember what happened in that.
- 51:12Like they're on to next, the next Seed series or the next episode.
- 51:17Like, that's already.
- 51:18And I'm like, no, no, but my integrity, my turn.
- 51:20They're like, get over it.
- 51:21You've signed up for a TV show.
- 51:24So with regards to what you said with, you know, what else did, I was unexpected.
- 51:30I navigated and juggled a lot this season because I had some big jobs and I was doing full time job in Housewives.
- 51:39So I was like, God, you have to expand my capacity because I don't know how much more I can fit in now.
- 51:46You know, they will have had their own interpretations on, you know, how they felt about me being busy.
- 51:54But the fact is that I've always been busy.
- 51:55I live a busy life.
- 51:56I think give a busy woman something to do, she always gets it done.
- 51:59I thrive on stress and, you know, I don't want to slow down.
- 52:06I want to live my life to the fullest, you know, foot on the throttle, max capacity.
- 52:13If I crash, I crash, but at least I'm getting a best shot.
- 52:17So I'm very much, you know, I'm not slowing down anytime soon.
- 52:21While there is breath in my lungs, baby, I am going for it.
- 52:24Yes, that is such a good motto for Midlife, too.
- 52:28While there's breath in your lungs, just keep it the fuck going.
- 52:31Just keep going.
- 52:33Like you don't want to slow down.
- 52:34Now you've got all.
- 52:35You can do that when you're old.
- 52:36Like, I.
- 52:37I'm like, asleep, you know, I'm sleep.
- 52:39Well, I'll sleep when I'm dead.
- 52:40My husband goes, honey, when you don't sleep, you are kind of a nightmare.
- 52:46Yeah.
- 52:46Like, make sure you sleep.
- 52:47And you know what?
- 52:48Considering in the last, like, what is it, four days, I've.
- 52:50I don't even know how many hours sleep in the, Like, I mean, what?
- 52:53From Australia?
- 52:54London.
- 52:54London, Louisiana.
- 52:57I don't even know what time zone I'm on.
- 52:59It's amazing.
- 52:59I'm even, like, speaking full, coherent sentence.
- 53:02You sound good from here.
- 53:05See, I thrive on it.
- 53:06I drive on it.
- 53:06Maybe just I.
- 53:07A little sleep.
- 53:08Honey, I can do it.
- 53:09Totally.
- 53:10Two hours here, two hours there.
- 53:11You good coffee is amazing when you need it.
- 53:15And a cocktail for later in the day.
- 53:17Oh, my gosh.
- 53:17Pick me up with a spicy margarita.
- 53:19Is it spicy margarita time already?
- 53:21It's always spicy margarita time, right?
- 53:25Absolutely.
- 53:26So, okay, I understand that we're going to be welcoming you into the 50 Club soon.
- 53:32Do you know what?
- 53:32I used to get so angly retentive about anyone talking about my birthday.
- 53:37Really?
- 53:38Yes.
- 53:38Yes.
- 53:38Because I was 32 at my forever, and then my children were like, mommy, I don't know how you're 32 because everyone else's mother is over 40.
- 53:49So then I progressed to 41.
- 53:51Oh, that's good.
- 53:51That's.
- 53:52And then I sat at 41 for about five years.
- 53:55I was like.
- 53:56They were like, can you just be honest?
- 53:58I'm like, no, honey, I was taught never to discuss your age.
- 54:01And, you know, my husband says you're only as young as a woman you feel.
- 54:03And I'm very young at heart, too.
- 54:06But then, like, you know, all the women on the show are older than me, other than Essie.
- 54:11So I'm like, I'm a young one.
- 54:14What can I say?
- 54:15They're all.
- 54:16They're all older than me.
- 54:17So, I mean, whatever.
- 54:18I'm gonna celebrate it.
- 54:20Yeah.
- 54:20So what do you.
- 54:21I mean, is there.
- 54:21Do you have big plans for it?
- 54:22Like, what are you thinking?
- 54:24Oh, gosh, you know, I'm a party planner, so I think there might be something.
- 54:31I think, you know, we didn't really get a chance.
- 54:33We've done some special things for our 20th anniversary.
- 54:36But, you know, we've got.
- 54:37We've.
- 54:37We've got a buildup of.
- 54:39Of a party coming.
- 54:40I can feel it.
- 54:41Okay, okay.
- 54:43You're like, I'm just gonna keep it under wraps.
- 54:45Yeah.
- 54:45Are you excited to turn 50 though, now?
- 54:47Probably not yet.
- 54:48I haven't really processed it.
- 54:49Cause I've only just turned 49.
- 54:51Like, give me a break.
- 54:53I was 48.
- 54:54I was 48 till a couple of weeks ago.
- 54:56So can we just, like, keep it still?
- 54:57I'm still like in the 48 bracket.
- 54:59Like, let's not push me up to 50 yet.
- 55:02So what do you think the next five years will look like for you?
- 55:05I mean, what do you want?
- 55:06What do you want to have happen?
- 55:08Look, I.
- 55:08I think, you know, the world is my oster.
- 55:11How big can you dream?
- 55:13Um, I am going to start doing some more singing.
- 55:16I released a gospel song last year and I'm going to.
- 55:19Congratulations.
- 55:21I've got a great friend here who actually just a Delta Godrum song for Eurovision, Jonas Miram.
- 55:27He's written with David Foster.
- 55:28David Foster, he's done Bocelli.
- 55:31I was literally talking to him last night.
- 55:32I've known him since we were 17.
- 55:34I'm like, Jonas, it's our time.
- 55:36We need to do a song together.
- 55:38So I grew up with him and Natasha Bedingfield.
- 55:40We're all used to sing together at church.
- 55:42Oh, you're kidding.
- 55:43I'm not.
- 55:44I'm not kidding.
- 55:44So you guys were like gospel choir,.
- 55:46Like, oh, so he's an amazing writer and, you know, then of course, look what Natasha has, like, flown.
- 55:54And her sister Nicola and her brother Daniel.
- 55:56Oh, were they all in the business?
- 55:57So Daniel was the first.
- 55:59And so I.
- 55:59I've grown up and known them for so long, so she's doing brilliantly.
- 56:03They're all based here, actually.
- 56:05But I.
- 56:06I'm like, I really feel like there's a song in my heart and I want to share it.
- 56:10And I think that's one thing that I would definitely, you know, keep doing.
- 56:14It's my craft.
- 56:15And even if it's not for the public, for just my own, My own health.
- 56:19Like, I write, I journal.
- 56:21I think it's important to look back, reflect, be grateful.
- 56:25There's definitely, you know, a lot of creativity that's going to come out.
- 56:30I mean, I would like, you know, I'm going back into the acting arena and that's very exciting.
- 56:37I mean, I'm looking what has happened with all these incredible things Landman.
- 56:41And I mean, look at the casting that.
- 56:43Look at Aliada.
- 56:44I mean, she is so hot and gorgeous and I just think, like, there's a time and, you know, I'm going to embrace it, like bring it.
- 56:51I think that, you know, if an opportunity comes up, Dancing with the Stars, America, let me do it.
- 56:58If Robert Irwin's bought it, I would like to do it too.
- 57:02You know, traitors.
- 57:03I mean, all of these things, you know, I love to talk, you know, if people want me to come and do like, look, look, look how, how many opportunities are there?
- 57:13I think, you know, my.
- 57:15I mean, maybe I'll do a podcast.
- 57:16Yes, very you, you know, a TV show host.
- 57:20I mean, I think that I've been, you know, trained for all of the above.
- 57:25So where God wants to take me, I will go.
- 57:27And, you know, to continue in Housewives, I think it's such a great opportunity to have.
- 57:31It's a wonderful platform.
- 57:32I love it as much as I have my days of like hating it, I love it.
- 57:37I wouldn't be sitting here with you now.
- 57:39So I am grateful every single day to what it's, you know, the opportunity it's given to me.
- 57:45And I think it's so smart what you and, you know, a lot of the other women do and you really use it to your advantage.
- 57:50You use it for your business.
- 57:51Honey, I'm a hustler.
- 57:53Like, be proactive, but you've just got to have a great team around me and, you know, they're visionaries as well.
- 57:59And you know, I didn't go into this blind.
- 58:01Right, right.
- 58:02I would not see you going into it.
- 58:04So you know, what they get, they get what?
- 58:06They get their pound of flesh.
- 58:08And so therefore I'm gonna use it, you know, for good.
- 58:12I'm excited about that.
- 58:13Yeah, no, it's very exciting.
- 58:15It's very exciting.
- 58:16So what advice would you give your 25 year old self?
- 58:19Looking back now, where, what were you, what was 25 Juliet doing?
- 58:25Well, I had actually met Tiggy.
- 58:28Wait, how'd you guys meet?
- 58:29You wouldn't believe it.
- 58:30In church.
- 58:31No, you did not.
- 58:33I was like, he's like, I just fell in love with your heart.
- 58:35I'm like, honey, I was blonde with big boobs.
- 58:37Let's be realistic.
- 58:39Like the heart was like number three.
- 58:40Yeah.
- 58:43So we started dating then and, you know, I was in love.
- 58:51I was working as an actor.
- 58:52I was, you know, I think for the first time making a decision that might may have found my soulmate.
- 59:01And I, I was so in my one lane as an actor that those things were peripheral.
- 59:06And now my dynamics of my life was shifting because I was Belie I, I started to believe I'd found my soulmate and we could build a life together.
- 59:15And you know, for me, because I had been solo from a young girl really, that was really exciting, but also like, I think somewhat a relief, like I don't have to battle on my own so much anymore.
- 59:31And you know, when you're a young actress living in one of the biggest cities in the world, you know, it's a hard knock life.
- 59:38Do you know what I mean?
- 59:39You're as good as your last job.
- 59:40I was doing well, I set up a luxury leather goods company and I was selling and I had a factory in Bangkok.
- 59:47I was back and forth doing that on top of acting.
- 59:50I even like at one point I flew.
- 59:52I was a waitress in the sky.
- 59:53I flew for Qantas, which, yeah, that's.
- 59:55A great way to see the world.
- 59:56Nothing humbles you more than cleaning loose at 20,000ft, let me tell you.
- 1:00:00But you know, all of those things have made me who I am and I wanted to work.
- 1:00:05Like I had a, you know, I've had a really incredible upbringing and a privileged upbringing and I, I, my mother and father have given us an incredible life.
- 1:00:16When I say I lived on five continents, I did.
- 1:00:18My father was, you know, he chief medical officer of Queensland at a time then he won the Australia Award.
- 1:00:25He worked in Saudi Arabia.
- 1:00:26He's worked, he's, you know, I went in, he was doing operations on bamboo slats in the middle of war zones.
- 1:00:32In between his work, he would do it.
- 1:00:34I've grown up like that, like in refugee camps, seeing how the other half live and how grateful I was and such.
- 1:00:43Again, juxtaposition here in the middle of a war zone.
- 1:00:45And here I am on a stage making people laugh, you know, and my parents were medics and academics and here we were like razzle dazzle, Like I was like, how was that even like a thing?
- 1:00:57I doubted myself, like, what value am I bringing?
- 1:01:00And that was part of my journey and to understand that actually it's okay.
- 1:01:04That's who God's created me to be.
- 1:01:07And you know, it's a skill set and you know, God can use that for his glory.
- 1:01:11I may not be saving people's lives, although I have saved a few lives because I've done cpr, but so it counts.
- 1:01:18But I, in fact I won.
- 1:01:20This is a random.
- 1:01:21I was given an award from Scotland Yard.
- 1:01:23Really?
- 1:01:24Yeah.
- 1:01:24For saving a life.
- 1:01:25You're kidding.
- 1:01:26And I laughed so much.
- 1:01:27And my dad flew over and came to Scotland Yard to See me receive it.
- 1:01:30And I'm like, you save lives every day.
- 1:01:32And here I am saving a life.
- 1:01:33And I'm at Scotty.
- 1:01:34God, right?
- 1:01:34Winning like an award for saving a life, like, to the community, you know, that was a random, you know, last night I was having this dinner with some great friends and in the Bird Street Club, as one does
- 1:01:48that.
- 1:01:48The place to be, I'm told, in la.
- 1:01:51And we were just talking.
- 1:01:52They're part of the Philharmonic.
- 1:01:53And I was like, I recorded an album with the real Philharmonic when I was, you know, 16.
- 1:01:57Nursery rhyme CD.
- 1:01:58Like, have you seen the muffin, man?
- 1:01:59The muffin?
- 1:02:00And they looked at me and they're like, you come out with the most extraordinary things.
- 1:02:04And I'm like, I actually start need to remembering these things.
- 1:02:08So I've had an extraordinary life.
- 1:02:09And I.
- 1:02:10My parents have really given that to me.
- 1:02:12And, you know, I've been a privileged situation with schooling.
- 1:02:16I.
- 1:02:16Yes, I've won scholarships, but, you know, I don't take any of that for granted.
- 1:02:22So I think that, you know, when I was 25, my stability was good and having a good family behind me and, you know, I was financially okay.
- 1:02:32And that was, you know, that is a lot for people just navigating that in itself to survive.
- 1:02:38So I do know that that is a huge privilege to be in that situation.
- 1:02:43So I think it was just letting go and understanding that I could share my life with someone and we could build a life together.
- 1:02:52And started, like, planning, because as an actor, you were only as good as your last job, but only planning for the next contract.
- 1:02:58You didn't know where you were doing, were you touring?
- 1:03:00Was I coming to America?
- 1:03:02Was how.
- 1:03:03How long was my rent going to be paid for?
- 1:03:05Do you know what I mean?
- 1:03:05You don't know what tomorrow brings.
- 1:03:07And as much as I love that, and I'm totally the person that is, like, up for that.
- 1:03:11You know, it takes a character to be like that.
- 1:03:13It was lovely to say, you know, we're going to build a life together and we're going to invest.
- 1:03:18And he always, he taught me that.
- 1:03:21So instead of instant gratification, it was longevity builds and invests.
- 1:03:27And I think because you're an actor, you're in your moment.
- 1:03:31That for me was everything.
- 1:03:33And, you know, he is slightly more mature than I am.
- 1:03:37He's very stable in himself.
- 1:03:39You know, he's successful and he's smart and he's ambitious and.
- 1:03:44And it was someone I really could respect and looked up to.
- 1:03:47And I was like, yeah, this is Exciting.
- 1:03:49This is where my life started to become.
- 1:03:51I started to become, I think, who I was meant to be.
- 1:03:55So I would say to my younger 25 year old self, like, it's okay, life happens.
- 1:04:03You're a survivor.
- 1:04:04Don't worry.
- 1:04:06And you know, just be comfortable in your skin.
- 1:04:09Yeah, that's, it's so big because we're so not at that age, you know, 20s.
- 1:04:13The 20s.
- 1:04:14You know, it's interesting your point about, you know, your father, My dad was also a doctor as well.
- 1:04:19Yes.
- 1:04:20And he was an oncologist.
- 1:04:21He actually recently passed.
- 1:04:23I'm so sorry.
- 1:04:24How old was he?
- 1:04:25He was 86.
- 1:04:26Oh, good life.
- 1:04:27Yes, good life.
- 1:04:28But still young.
- 1:04:29Still young.
- 1:04:30You know, it's never, it's never the right time, you know, you're never okay and it's just, it's always hard to deal with.
- 1:04:35But when you said the thing about, you know, you're growing up with these parents who are academics say, you know, very similar to me, you know, it's kind of like, what am I doing?
- 1:04:43Like what is my place?
- 1:04:44You know, am I supposed to be doing something similar to what they're doing?
- 1:04:48You know, and to do something totally different is kind of, you know, can be shocking.
- 1:04:53But.
- 1:04:53Well, it was really interesting this last trip to see them and given life has changed for them somewhat, they're slowing down.
- 1:05:01My father is still a student working like.
- 1:05:03And I'm so glad because he'd drive us all crazy if he wasn't.
- 1:05:07But for them, I think it was a huge relief I've got this show because it's like all of that training, all of that, that crazy child that was so Insistent to move 12 and a half thousand miles and
- 1:05:20go into this specialist boarding school and like do everything was that they were.
- 1:05:24I mean my father's a very talented musician and he'd won a scholarship to music school in America from England.
- 1:05:29So I do have some of that blood.
- 1:05:31But they, you know, for them to kind of computer and then see me like, where was all that?
- 1:05:36Now it's all been used.
- 1:05:38They're like these things all come around and I think, you know, my daddy is just, he's, he's, we giggled a lot.
- 1:05:45He's such a man of wisdom.
- 1:05:47And my mother too, and she's like, we just, they still see me as their little 13 year old girl.
- 1:05:52Right?
- 1:05:52I don't, it's very hard for them to move on.
- 1:05:55I'm in my 40s now and almost 50.
- 1:05:58But we're not gonna say that we're Never gonna say that, but I think they just, they're so humored by it all and that makes me happy.
- 1:06:07And, you know, I just want to be that person.
- 1:06:11Like when the Bible says, well done, good and faithful servant, well done, like, you've lived your best life.
- 1:06:16And I think that, that my parents just want that for me.
- 1:06:18They want me to be happy, they want me to have known that I've used all my skill set and my talents and, you know, I flourished as a wife and mother and that's it.
- 1:06:27Not live in regret.
- 1:06:28And I think I felt like my father was always like, I'm so happy for you, like where you're at, like, this is good.
- 1:06:37Because I feel like now all of your gifts and talent, you're not so that I was suppressing them, but it's like, yeah, you've still got it and you're still doing it, and that's fantastic.
- 1:06:44And it wasn't just then, it's through your whole life.
- 1:06:47And I think that is something that I would say to also women of our age.
- 1:06:53Like, don't think age is stopping you doing anything right.
- 1:06:59Because it just shifts.
- 1:07:01Like, I know I can't dance like I used to.
- 1:07:03My leg is not around my ear, but I still got the moves, baby.
- 1:07:08Nick Jagger.
- 1:07:11I will get on that table if you want me to get on that table.
- 1:07:13Do you know what I mean?
- 1:07:14I think we.
- 1:07:14It just looks different.
- 1:07:15But you've still got chutzpah, you've still got your mojo and just go for it and don't let anyone constrain you.
- 1:07:21Yes, 100%, even yourself.
- 1:07:24Like, don't let yourself hold you back.
- 1:07:26Like, if it's something you want, go for it, do.
- 1:07:28Yeah.
- 1:07:29And I think I've seen that in my parents.
- 1:07:30I think they've been great as my.
- 1:07:31My dad is always doing something new with a pro and a new project.
- 1:07:36And you know, he's one of the top tropical medicine specialists in the world, a pediatric surgeon and obstetrics.
- 1:07:42And you know why?
- 1:07:43Because he would never not study.
- 1:07:46He always reading and my mother always reading, always challenging, always taking exams, always keeping up with the.
- 1:07:53But like never sitting on his laurels and just going for it.
- 1:07:57And so I see that.
- 1:07:58And that always has given me, like, I can't be lazy.
- 1:08:03I want to learn every day to.
- 1:08:05Be a lifelong learner.
- 1:08:06That's so important.
- 1:08:07Yes.
- 1:08:08Because your brain needs to be stimulated.
- 1:08:10And the second you stop, it's like your body, the second you stop fit looking after it, you know, you become sedentary and that is a horrible place to be.
- 1:08:19Yeah, you don't want to do that.
- 1:08:21You don't want to do that.
- 1:08:21Keep it going, everybody.
- 1:08:23Oh, my gosh, Juliet, you are amazing.
- 1:08:25You're amazing.
- 1:08:26I'm so glad we could show you.
- 1:08:27Oh, me too.
- 1:08:28Me too.
- 1:08:29Yeah.
- 1:08:29This is so fun.
- 1:08:30So tell everybody, obviously, where they can find you, but also the date of the show premiere so we can all be watching.
- 1:08:36Okay, so 7th of September, season two.
- 1:08:40Hold onto your pants.
- 1:08:41Take a Valium.
- 1:08:42Buckle up, buttercup.
- 1:08:44Have that spicy margarita.
- 1:08:45Spicy margarita, Absolutely.
- 1:08:47Get your popcorn out.
- 1:08:49It's gonna be hot.
- 1:08:51Coming in hot.
- 1:08:53So, yeah, my socials are Juicy Mayhew.
- 1:08:55Where does Juicy come from, by the way?
- 1:08:57Do you know, back in the day, it was, like, a nickname, and do you remember when we used to have MySpace and it lasted, like, two seconds?
- 1:09:03So I was like, well, Instagram probably lasts, like, two seconds.
- 1:09:06And I used to be called, like, Juicy Jules.
- 1:09:07So I was like, juicy Mayhew.
- 1:09:08Well, then it stuck, right?
- 1:09:11And I was like, people are talking.
- 1:09:13Oh, Juicy.
- 1:09:14I know you, Juicy.
- 1:09:14I'm like, my name is Juliet.
- 1:09:17And then I was like, I do have Juliet Mayhew, which is my party company.
- 1:09:20And then I was like, do you know what?
- 1:09:21Actually, it's my Persona, and that's how it was, and that's how it is.
- 1:09:27And it stuck.
- 1:09:28Yeah, no, I think it works.
- 1:09:29I like this branding.
- 1:09:31Yeah, I do.
- 1:09:32I do.
- 1:09:33Little Juicy.
- 1:09:33You know, fun and fruity and, like, spicy.
- 1:09:36Absolutely.
- 1:09:36We're claiming it.
- 1:09:38Claiming it.
- 1:09:38Proclaiming it.
- 1:09:39That's it.
- 1:09:40Okay, Everybody, follow her.
- 1:09:42UCYMAYHUE.
- 1:09:43And watch the show.
- 1:09:44Watch the show.
- 1:09:45September 7th.
- 1:09:46Yay.
- 1:09:47Yay.
- 1:09:47Oh, my gosh.
- 1:09:48Thank you so much, my love, for coming.
- 1:09:50Oh, my gosh.
- 1:09:51Thank you for having me.
- 1:09:52I love the idea that there doesn't have to be one definitive version of who we are.
- 1:09:56We can be mothers and partners and professionals.
- 1:09:59We can spend years taking care of everyone else, and then one day, we can decide there's another part of ourselves we're ready to meet or maybe reclaim.
- 1:10:08Juliette Mayhew is a great reminder that 49 is certainly not the age to become smaller, quieter, or less ambitious.
- 1:10:15It might actually be a moment to take up a little more space.
- 1:10:18A huge thank you to Juliet for joining me today, and be sure to come back on Thursday for Juliet's bonus game episode.
- 1:10:25And if this conversation spoke to you, download the episode and send it to a woman who might need that reminder that it's her turn too.
