Transcript
- 0:18Hello, and welcome to Gates Leapers, the pop culture game show that shines
- 0:22the spotlights onto everyone's favorite fandoms. I'm your games master and precocious daughter of
- 0:27a talkative mother, Matt Watson. Yeah that's right, I'm saying Rory is
- 0:31the villain loop top. Of course, we couldn't play these games without our
- 0:37team captains, a pair of Gilmour guys. First, he's a Chris,
- 0:42but he's actually more of a Luke. Maybe yeah, it's Chris. Arguments
- 0:47could be made either way. I guess I do get very moody. I
- 0:52do have a boat that I don't use into a garage. Yeah, so
- 0:56yeah, you know, Yeah that's fair o leagues. Yeah, of course.
- 1:00And he's asking why they're calling Sam Dean it's Drew Shulman. Oh well,
- 1:07I should have seen that one coming a mile away. If it's the
- 1:11brand, If it's the brand. Hello, captains, are you ready for
- 1:15a series of games about a drama d TV series that helped define the early
- 1:19two thousands? So ready done? At once? I'll do it again.
- 1:23Now look at this point I'll reveal the conceit of this episode. You may
- 1:29notice, for the first time ever, both Audra and Jason are missing as
- 1:32captains. That's because this episode it's going to be a Gilmore Girls themed mister
- 1:37and missus, it's a couple versus couple. So I guess my question to
- 1:41you both is, are you glad you're going to be paired with some super
- 1:44fans who actually know something? Oh? My god? Yes, Like I
- 1:48know the show. Well, I mean this nice? Okay, there's just
- 1:53so much of it. Like every single time a discussion of Gilmore Girls is
- 1:57brought up, I'm like, wait, I watched all of this last year.
- 2:00I don't remember anything that happened. What I feel like you've in the
- 2:05same boat is my wife will mention something from the show and I'll be like,
- 2:08I believe that happened on the show. I've only watched it through twice,
- 2:13but I believe you. I'll take your word for it. But okay,
- 2:16okay, that was gonna be my next question. So, Drew,
- 2:19you've watched it through twice as part of your responsibility of being married to a
- 2:23Gilmore Gills man, well, once before marrying her and once after marrying her.
- 2:28Nice. Nice, view it with the different contexts and Chris, what
- 2:31about what about you? How many times have if you watched it through one
- 2:35time, all the way through, with a smattering of just random episodes being
- 2:39thrown up here and there throughout the years. So okay, a lot of
- 2:44like season four, I've probably watched like three or four times, but everything
- 2:49else once correction season five whatever. Wow, already fighting? Fine, you
- 2:55know what, I've had enough of this, all right, you're being really
- 2:59aggressive with me. I'm just gonna leave historically like seas, I'm just gonna
- 3:07rage quite a lot, just to just in the melodramatic, you know,
- 3:12atmosphere of it also just gets it's on theme. Yeah, yeah, Well,
- 3:16well it sounds like, honestly you need some help to play these games
- 3:21about Gilmore Girls. So you'll each need to pair up with an independent,
- 3:24headstrong and sarcastic girl. Although I prefer to call them women, but they're
- 3:30girls in the show because it's Gilmore Girls. So, Chris, who is
- 3:34your girl? Well, she is a regular here around gate Leapers. She
- 3:38is only once been beaten, uh, and you know whether or not that
- 3:45was fair or not is uh, you know, that's up to your interpretation.
- 3:50But she's beaten me several times in this show. And she is also
- 3:54the love of my life. Jen Reagan, Hello, Jen, welcome back
- 3:59to the podcast. Thanks love, thanks for having me back. It was
- 4:02a good intro. I'd say you, how would you write Chris's intro of
- 4:06you give me a scale? Okay? Oh, but we seven seasons of
- 4:12Gilmore Girls one through seven? Okay? Is it based on my like the
- 4:16like ability of that season or just a one through seven? I'm really yeah,
- 4:23you're married to a scientist. Okay, you know better. Okay,
- 4:27then instead I will ask you this question, but feel free to ask follow
- 4:30up questions off the back of it. Okay. Are you a big Gilmo
- 4:33Girls fan? Yeah? I mean I truly don't think And this sounds so
- 4:40like, I don't know, pretentious or whatever. I don't think fan or
- 4:44like big fan describes what it is like. I can remember watching the first
- 4:49episode my sister and our recliner, like everything about the tactile experience of that
- 4:55and then everything throughout life. So it's like it almost seems like fan.
- 5:00It doesn't actually like describe it because it's not like like, oh my god,
- 5:03it's such a big fan, like fawning over it in the way that
- 5:06I do. Like Taylor Swift but like more that this is just like it's
- 5:11just in my tool belt, it's just like part it's a part of the
- 5:14fabric, if you'll be Yeah, very articulate way of explaining that. And
- 5:18it's always great to be passionate, but you are now setting yourself up to
- 5:20fail massively, So oh for sure. I want to set the stage here
- 5:25that I have come into many a gate leaper episode going yeah, I know
- 5:29some of this enough to talk about it and make jokes about it and participate
- 5:34with whoever is in the room. This is fine. But like I think
- 5:38for me, this one means a lot more on the sentimal like sentimentality side
- 5:43of it. That's word, Yeah, to like be in a hypothetical room
- 5:47with another big fan or like another person has had this be part of their
- 5:51life in a really like intricate way, and to be able to just like
- 5:57talk about this. Like for me, it's not like can I compete prove
- 6:00to myself that I'm a big fan of Kilmore girls, or if I get
- 6:03a task wrong, does that mean I'm not. It's like it's just fun
- 6:08to be in a room, in a space and share something that's meant so
- 6:11much to me with people who mean a lot to me. Yeah, and
- 6:14where that shakes out, it shakes out. I know I have a reputation
- 6:17here at this table that I have to uphold or whatever. Yeah, and
- 6:23I know Jason's stat Leeper's episode is coming up and he keeps reminding me,
- 6:30So that's there obviously. But it is such like a this one means more.
- 6:35Okay, Okay, that's I mean, that's good. It's this is
- 6:38my Roman empire. This is to be on trend. Yeah. Yeah,
- 6:44and this episode goes out pretty soon, so yeah, it will still be
- 6:46on trend. Awesome. Well, it's great. I think you'll make an
- 6:49excellent team. As you do in life. I appreciate it. Just like
- 6:53in life, general do most of the hard work. And Drew, who
- 6:59is joining you today, I have brought for their podcast premiere. They've never
- 7:02appeared in a podcast before. My lovely wife, the brains, the beauty,
- 7:06the know how of this team, which means I don't really know what
- 7:09I'm bringing to it, but I'm bringing her my wife, Paula. Hello,
- 7:13Paula, welcome to the podcast. Hello. Oh thank you so much
- 7:16for having me. What a topic to make my podcast debut? Yes,
- 7:20yes, so I mean, I'll get right to it. Are you also
- 7:24a massive Gilmore Girls fan? Much like gensaid? It's and it's funny that
- 7:28she also brought up Taylor Swift, because you know, I can bend girl
- 7:31all over Taylor Swift, but Gilmore Girls the same thing. It's been part
- 7:35of essentially the fiber of my being for as long as I can remember.
- 7:40You know, I can't necessarily like Pinpoint watching the first episode because we're in
- 7:45Canada. We didn't get the WB or the CW. We had to wait
- 7:47for it to like slimbal cast and everything, So you know, I can't
- 7:50really like ten Point starting it. I know that at one point, I
- 7:55guess I must have been like twelve years old and I asked my mom,
- 7:57like, why can't you be a single mom? It was so much fun.
- 8:05But you know, similarly, like in the way that I acted my
- 8:09professional life, I realized that I'm a lot like Laurli in the way I
- 8:13try and build relationships with people. And I thought as a student I was
- 8:16a rory, but then it turns out that she's the worst person. So
- 8:18we're just not going that seems like the natural realization is to just be like
- 8:24when you're younger, you think you are a Rory, but then you've realized
- 8:26very much, no, it's much better to be a Laura Lie. Yeah.
- 8:28And then you know, planning it like just it impacts me in ways
- 8:33that I can't consciously say, but people who know me point it out and
- 8:37you just go like, oh, yeah, that tracks right. So like
- 8:39planning our wedding, you know, I'm putting all these details together, and
- 8:43finally my mom is like, this is the wedding that Laura I would host.
- 8:46It be independent. Then, like in the first season, this is
- 8:50exactly what you've planned for yourself, and like, who shoot, it is.
- 8:54So it's just it's ingrained into my soul and it just came along to
- 8:58the red Yeah, to the wedding. Yeah attended. This is fantastic.
- 9:07It's always I love the gate Leapers episodes that have like a super fan and
- 9:11then someone who doesn't really know all that much. I think that works just
- 9:13works out the best. But for it to be couples with sort of having
- 9:18that natural chemistry and it also being someone who has it as the fabric of
- 9:22their being and then someone who's along for the ride. Yeah, that's also
- 9:26describes a lot of Gilmore Girl's relationships as well. Not wrong. So yeah,
- 9:33I think Jen, you mentioned it a bit ago, and I feel
- 9:35like I should mention it. The last time that Drew and Gen were on
- 9:39the same episode was the Sailor Moon episode, and Drew may or may not
- 9:43I'm being political here, have ended Jen's undefeated streak. I'm so sorry.
- 9:48I don't know any pops culture salers. Okay, that quick fire around this
- 9:54bitch, so bearing in mind that it means nothing and proves nothing about how
- 9:58much you know about a fandom. As and just pointed out, this is
- 10:01another championship match. I feel this is the title is very much on the
- 10:03line here. It's the champion versus the former champion in pro wrestling. That
- 10:07just makes sense to me. I didn't get a belt, but if I
- 10:11had a belt, I'd be flashing it here. It's it's metaphysical. You
- 10:16have it just to enjoy it. Pretend it's there. It's there, you're
- 10:20strapped up. That's fine, okay, Teams, you've arrived for your first
- 10:24day at Chiltern, but some conservative child is already trying to get you to
- 10:28form a study group. And study groups need names. I love Paris.
- 10:33So I'd like each pair to come up with a Gilmore Girls themed team name,
- 10:37please. So let's start with Chris and Jen. Have you got a
- 10:39team name? Yes? We do. We had a couple of different ideas
- 10:46for this team name, but Jen is better at describing it than myself,
- 10:52So if you want to turn certainly. So, knowing this episode was coming,
- 10:58I was thinking, like, what what should we do? What should
- 11:01be the team name? I don't want it to be something that's like,
- 11:05you know, you're like top forty known Gilmore Girls quotes or references. Do
- 11:11you want a deep cut? Deep cut? And so we're talking about it,
- 11:13and on a walk with our dog, Chris was like, we could
- 11:16be the Vicious Trallop's and my brain churt circuit of being like, where where
- 11:20is that that's in the show? And so I started going through the catalog
- 11:24and he let me know that he knew this because of his ex girlfriend.
- 11:28So I don't know what that says about you? Do you only date Gilmore
- 11:33Girls finds apparently apparently unplanned? But that's just kind of how it how it's
- 11:39always turned out. Yeah, this was literally the only thing I knew about
- 11:43Gilmore Girls was the words vicious Trallop before being with Chi. Yes, so
- 11:48the the team name will be Vicious Trallop. It's from U an episode in
- 11:54season two where Lorali and Emily are at a spot together and Laura is putting
- 12:00on a lipstick color and I mean he's like, oh, I like that
- 12:03can and she's like, oh you can, you know, wear it too,
- 12:05and she's like, what's it called? And Laura says Vicious Trollop and
- 12:09Emily goes, what dirty horror was taken? Is taken as a team name
- 12:15as well? I mean, I think you guys have done it, at
- 12:16least we must have had some reference, so vicious Troop, but you could
- 12:22call this dirty Horrors if that, if you're more comfortable, fair bring your
- 12:31kings into this. That's fantastic. Vicious Trollops. Am I allowed to pluralize
- 12:39it because it's two of you? Yeah? Yeah trollops? Yeah? Okay
- 12:41for sure, Yeah, pair of vicious trollops. Okay, let's let's move
- 12:46on over to Drew and Pola. Let's have you got a Gilmore Girls themed
- 12:48team name idea? And we also knew that this etisode was coming and started
- 12:54brainstorming what we were going to do for our team name, and we thought
- 12:58about we were all almost set on the Puffs with the high secret society at
- 13:03Chiltern that Rory gets dragged into in the middle of the night, and Drew
- 13:07was trying to find a way to be like, was it a big bell?
- 13:11We couldn't find a way to make that into a team name, and
- 13:18so we pivoted to one of my favorite moments of all time in the entire
- 13:22series, and that is when they are having the movie Night in Town and
- 13:28we get to see the worldwide debut of an original film by Kirk o God
- 13:35and it might be one of the most brilliant pieces of art to ever come
- 13:39across my screen. And so we decided that we would be a team by
- 13:45Kirk. Yes, that's such a good reference. Just getting a Kirk thing
- 13:50in was like all I wanted. So I'm so happy we got that.
- 13:54So good, super necessary Cat Kirk, The cat Kirks was one of my
- 13:58backup A lot of love for Kirk, a lot of time for Kirk,
- 14:05real main character. I do want a cut of that is just from Kirk's
- 14:11perspective, cook cut Oh, brilliant. Absolutely, his family's got connected,
- 14:20but then where does mix it into all of it? Oh, it's not
- 14:24debate. We're having now, Okay, this is great. We've got vicious
- 14:31trollops versus a team by Kirk. I love it all right. And if
- 14:37you're listening to this and thinking, well, everyone here has seems small town
- 14:41lovely. But I don't know my Gilmore Girls from my Backstreet Boys, don't
- 14:45worry. In Audra's absence, Chris has prepared a fantastic monologue all about the
- 14:50Gilmore Girls. Oh yeah, yeah, no, I for sure prepared to
- 14:54send you that email. Yeah no, I remember I read all your emails
- 14:56and messages and discorded for sure. So the Gilmore Girls, Hello, Oh
- 15:05I am here to save you. Oh thank god, it's resident Experts Aldre
- 15:09Stevenson. Okay, thank you, yeah, Yadra. Gilmore Girls is an
- 15:15American comedy drama TV series created by Amy Sherman Palladino. The show stars Lauren
- 15:22Graham as Laura I. Gilmore and Alexis Badil as her daughter Rory Gilmore,
- 15:26the titular Gilmore Girls. Honestly, it would be weird if they were not
- 15:31the Gilmore That would be weird. It's such relief to have that suki thing
- 15:35fixed. I know, I hate fighting with friends. That's what enemies are
- 15:37for. After its debut in Fall two thousand, Yes You are Old,
- 15:41Gilmore Girls became the flagship series for the WB. Audiences couldn't get enough of
- 15:48the people of Stars Hollow, Connecticut. Stars Hollow should be the name for
- 15:52Hollywood, right, stars Hollow. How many of you ever considered the fact
- 15:58that you're glorifying war we fought so we could keep land that we stole.
- 16:03Gilmore Girls received critical acclaim for its fast paced, witty dialogue, cross generational
- 16:08appeal, and effective mix of humor and drama. This is a show by
- 16:12women, typically geared towards women, about the realistic struggle of witty women who
- 16:18will say as much as they can, as fast as they can, to
- 16:22avoid their real feelings and the impacts of those feelings. I mean, why
- 16:26do I have to address my feelings when I live in a beautiful, walkable
- 16:30community that somehow still has affordable housing. I visited the family mausoleum today.
- 16:37Never what you think is gonna be. Gilmore Girls has been cited in Time
- 16:40magazine as one of the one hundred greatest television shows of all time. It
- 16:45has also become one of the most watched shows on streaming platforms. And if
- 16:49we are going to get through all one hundred and fifty three episodes, I
- 16:52am gonna need more coffee. Uh, I'm gonna pop down to Lukes.
- 16:56Anybody want one coffee? Coffee, I'll get to a piece, just to
- 17:00be safe. Thanks, Adra. Okay, just before we get to today's
- 17:07games, I've asked each player to bring in a muse, something that inspires
- 17:12them or something they love from this particular fandom. Gilmore Girls is inspiring to
- 17:17me because it represents women as both confident and inept just like men. This
- 17:22is what equality looks like. People, This is what it looks like.
- 17:26And I think it's only right that we start with the fans. So,
- 17:29Jen, what's inspiring you from the world of girls? Comma Gilmore, I
- 17:33have my own little paul Anka in the room. So you hear any barkstring
- 17:38the audio's that's what it is. That's what it is. It's her.
- 17:41It's paul Anka in the flash. This one, I guess, is a
- 17:45more of a theoretical concept for what I'm bringing And like I said at the
- 17:49top, like this show is very fabric to me, and within that,
- 17:56I grew up a little more about me. I grew up military, was
- 18:00moving around a lot. This came out in two thousand when I was five
- 18:04or six. I had an older sister. This is definitely like catered to
- 18:08her agent demographic. And again, like Paula had said, like it was
- 18:12on the w B, we didn't have cable, so you're working with Channel
- 18:17five, it's your entertainment. I was a big PBS kid. But so
- 18:26within that growing up connections hard, and something that I found across all places,
- 18:33across all friends, something that was easy as practically a language between between
- 18:41people was Gilmore Girls. And so for the friendships that I've had in my
- 18:45childhood that I still have, they are so ameshed and Gilmore Girls and staying
- 18:51up and watching it and rewatching it and watching the box sets and scratching the
- 18:56box sets because I was a child and didn't know how to take care of
- 19:00DVDs. Sure, but like I said, it's kind of that feeling of
- 19:03connection and then being able to share it with friends and my partner, and
- 19:08it's still being so incredibly huge for me coming into my thirtieth year and I
- 19:15started watching what is five so it's kind of like that's where the like,
- 19:18I can't I don't know if I could say fan anymore. It's been a
- 19:22long and it's just been such a part and such a language that I've been
- 19:26able to speak with so many people, which has been a huge bridge for
- 19:30making new friends and getting involved with new communities. So your muse is holistic,
- 19:34it is. It is a life in the life. It's a year
- 19:37in the life if you will. Yeah, yeah, a full year in
- 19:41the life, but twenty five twenty five years in the life, a life
- 19:45for a year of the life. Yeah, exactly. Lives of lives.
- 19:48Yeah, the base of our lives, I mean, sorry, our lives,
- 19:52your music, days of our lives gone. That's a fantastic news.
- 19:56It shows how important the show the show to you. Yeah, it's great,
- 20:02muse. Let's move on over to the other super fan in the room,
- 20:06Paula. What's inspiring you from Gilmore Girls? I mean it sounds really
- 20:11basic, but coffee, Yeah, there is that that little piece when Laura
- 20:18Hanko to Luke's and so she goes to another bakery and she goes coffee,
- 20:21coffee, coffee, and then give her three coffees that is my every day,
- 20:25every day ending, and why has three coffees in it? Today we
- 20:30have switched our coffee to a more adult version that has some you know,
- 20:33foods in it, but it is coffee, coffee, coffee all day long.
- 20:38And then yeah, Otherwise, sitting in a room that is surrounded with
- 20:42quite a few items of Gilmore Girls decor. I know my zoom background is
- 20:47blurred, but there's a lot of Gilmore Girls. Okay, we believe you.
- 20:49It's okay. But the coffee is the big one. Yeah, the
- 20:55coffee is the lead. That's fantastic. Such a key part of the show,
- 20:59such a key potlauralized character, right bees, and a key part of
- 21:02what makes me me so yes, yes, yeah, the Gilmore Girls is
- 21:07the fabric view, but coffee also maybe the fabric of you as well?
- 21:11Hold together? Yes, Okay, Now we'll move over to a couple of
- 21:15guys who might not know as much. Maybe they'll be inspired by something we'll
- 21:19find out. I can only ask Drew, what's inspiring you from the world
- 21:22of Gilmore Girls. I thought long and hard about this one, because I
- 21:26really do enjoy the show. Like I said, I watched it before even
- 21:30meeting Paula. But I think something that hit me recently that is the most
- 21:33inspiring from the show is the soundtrack to the show, and very specifically the
- 21:38La Laws. There is something so magical about how just the word love repeated
- 21:45in rhythm can evoke so many different emotions throughout the show. And I like
- 21:49we walk down in the aisle to those at our wedding. I mean they
- 21:52are special to me. Ah, that's a little la la la, the
- 21:56little la la las. That's so good. Do you know does any of
- 22:00the anyone know the band that does the la la labits the transitions or is
- 22:07it in the house? Did they have like the music produced to do that?
- 22:10Like the composed of it. It is the same singer that sings Reflecting
- 22:15Light And I am having a blank on her name at this exact moment.
- 22:18Phillips. Nice. Nice, There's no points on the line. Don't worry,
- 22:22but it's I was just curious. I went to because the music in
- 22:26Gilmore Girls is fantastic. Just the soundtrack of various like actual songs that they
- 22:30use throughout it. Great stuff. So yeah, beautiful, sweet muse that
- 22:33Drew connects connects to your wedding beautifully connects to a key part of Gilmore Girl's
- 22:38Let's see what Chris has got to offer? Chris, what's inspiring you.
- 22:41So there's a lot of things, but I think what I've got to consider
- 22:47my muse is just going to be my personal favorite character in the show,
- 22:52because he he is his own main character in his own show. And you
- 23:00might be thinking it's Kirk, which is fair, and it's and that's a
- 23:03valid favorite character. However, I'm talking about TJ. Luke's brother in law
- 23:11because he just could not give less of a shit about whatever whatever the hell
- 23:17lore Lion lucre dealing with. He's got his own life to live and I
- 23:22just I love him so much. He was also he was also in one
- 23:26of my favorite movies as a child, in Sino Man. But that's beside
- 23:30the point. Yeah, the actor. We'll get to the Encino Man getting
- 23:32you. Oh thank god, the poly Shore episode. But yeah, TJ
- 23:40and just him going look at the ren Fair. It's it's my favorite there
- 23:45there, it is. Yeah, It's it's always good to have the specific
- 23:48favorite characters. That's why I love about the music and to shout out those
- 23:52secondary characters that don't get talked about as much. So yeah, good,
- 23:56mus he came through and ascrow the house. Does he know what that means?
- 24:02No? I don't know what it means either. Your TJ. All
- 24:10I can hear is escrow, Yeah, scrow down the house. I'm going
- 24:17to need that reference explained and escrow. Unfortunately, I can only reference when
- 24:22is a TJ buy a house and not escrow. That's okay, because right,
- 24:26teams, let's link arms and walk through our perfectly idyllic and unrealistic affordable
- 24:33small town into round one. Round one is called so quotable, where this
- 24:41time the s O stands for significant other. It works better when it's written
- 24:47down. It's a couple's twist on our classic quotes fill in the blank style
- 24:51guessing game. Here's how it's gonna work. I will readout an iconic Gilmore
- 24:56girl's quote with one word missing. I'll then ask our to write down what
- 25:00they think the missing word is. After that, I'll ask our super fans
- 25:04to give us the correct answer for one point. They can then score a
- 25:08second bonus point if they correctly guess the word their partner wrote down. So
- 25:14you can either have faith that they wrote the correct answer and say that and
- 25:17get potentially two points from that, or take a guess at the word they
- 25:21wrote. If you know that they didn't know, love the confidence that I'm
- 25:26gonna get it correct. Well, you know, I think there's a pretty
- 25:30big Gilmore Girls quote, but you know, anything could happen. It's gayly.
- 25:34So first of all, here's your first quote, and it will be
- 25:38the captain's the partners writing down what they think the blank is. So here's
- 25:42the quote. I don't know if she ever realized the person I most wanted
- 25:48to be was blank. Oh come on, guys, this is easy.
- 25:52So just going to need an answer written down from both captains. Got a
- 25:56thumbs up and Drew got a loud noise that may not be being picked up
- 26:00on. He's got her all noises, okay, okay, And just because
- 26:07he's panicking so much, I'm going to come to Chris first, Jesus.
- 26:12Okay, Oh wait, I guess it's real answers first. It's a new
- 26:15game, so I'm all over the place. The edit will fix this,
- 26:19Okay. Now we're going to ask the experts what the correct answer is.
- 26:22So this time we'll start with Jen. God, this one isn't top of
- 26:27mind. For me, I'm gonna assume her it is her. Did you
- 26:30have the same answer, Pola, I did. It's Victorian speech when she's
- 26:36graduating Concilia. Yeah. I was like, this is familiar and I feel
- 26:40like it's in a speech. But she said a lot of these, so
- 26:44she likes picking up a mom. Okay, that's a point each there,
- 26:47but there can be a bonus point scored for each party. Jen, what
- 26:51did you think that Chris wrote? I mean, by passive elimination, I
- 26:55think he put the correct answer based on grammatical structure of the sentence, So
- 26:59I'm going to assume that he put her. Okay, Chris, what did
- 27:03you What did you write? That was my first thought because it made grammatical
- 27:07sense. But then I was like, no, they have to be talking
- 27:08about a specific person. This feels like a swerve, Matt, So so
- 27:15I just put my mother okay, which it's not quite the exact quote,
- 27:21but yeah, it's not going to be a point, but it's the same
- 27:22sentiment. Right, at least you didn't say, Cook and Paula, what
- 27:33do you think Drew wrote down here? I think they got it right.
- 27:37Yeah, yeah, that is an extra point for a team by Cook here
- 27:45is your next quote. If you're going to throw your life away, he
- 27:49better have a blank. If you're going to throw your life away, you'd
- 27:56better have a blank. So a couple of I don't know if you're gonna
- 28:02keep this one. Well, guess is this is an impossible game and I
- 28:06am being attacked. This is like from the pot. Well, well shit,
- 28:17I'll have to see what happens. I'll be honest. I had a
- 28:18little bit of confidence coming into this game. I don't anymore. And the
- 28:25quotes are only going to get trickia so perfect, do we have answers written
- 28:30down there? Okay, we will now go to the experts for hopefully the
- 28:33correct answers. Paula, let's start with you from the pilot. We better
- 28:37have a motorcycle. It is indeed motorcycle. If you have to say,
- 28:41mensagen, nice stuff. I'm gonna have to curb my urge to describe every
- 28:48scene. I mean you can. I'll just decide whether I keep it in
- 28:51or not. Well, why gets into Chilton? Laura l I sells her
- 28:55soul to get money from her parents, so she's already locked and loaded.
- 28:57She meets Dean, decides that she might not want to go to Chilton because
- 29:00now she's falling in love with Dean. And then Lourlai gets upset and they
- 29:03get in a fight, and he said, if you're gonna throw your life
- 29:07away, you better have a motorcycle, because Christopher had a motorcycle. And
- 29:10this is technically foreshadowing to the first time you see Christopher driving up on a
- 29:14motorcycle. Nice good stuff. Hell, good context there. But let's find
- 29:19out if the pot is all right? Wrote down, motorcycle, Drew.
- 29:22We will start with you and Paula. What do you think Drew wrote down.
- 29:26I'm not I'm not convinced that he got this right. Knowing my husband,
- 29:33He's better have a dog. I'm gonna throw your life away, have
- 29:41a dog. I mean logically, if I'm throwing my life away from somebody,
- 29:44they better have a dog. But no, I was channeling my interview
- 29:47and thinking a plan plans good. Yeah, it does fit the sentiment of
- 29:52Gilmore Girls. Okay, so no point there for a team by Kirk.
- 29:56But let's find out if vicious Trollops are going to score a point? Jen,
- 29:59what do you think Chris wrote down? Okay, I don't think you
- 30:00put motorcycle. Because he's only seen season one once, I would think that
- 30:04he would go at the practical and be like, he better have like a
- 30:07job or something. See same job? Is that I'm saying job? Mansion?
- 30:11Oh mansion? Okay? Yeah? It starts with an them close to
- 30:17the motorcycle, is it? Yeah? I could stop throwing out for answers
- 30:22that the start with the same letter. Yeah, let's just call him a
- 30:25hitty, all right, and I'm not above it. Okay, so no
- 30:30points there, but fun fun guess is nonetheless from the partners. Let's move
- 30:33on to the next quote. Well, I'll bring blank up on the internet
- 30:38and see what comes up. Sorry, that was so loud. That's gonna
- 30:41peak. I'm sorry that the quote is. Well, I'll bring blank up
- 30:47on the internet and see what comes up. I know the scene, I
- 30:51can visualize it. I remember laughing at this on the show. But I
- 30:57but it's still spotty. I have this like I have the format of the
- 31:02joke, but I can't think what the word is. Yeah, exactly.
- 31:06I have such a beef with this scene. Okay, do we have answers
- 31:11written down from our captains? Yeah? Nice, Okay, we'll go of
- 31:17it. To Jen this time, Well, I'll bring Dick up on the
- 31:21internet and see what comes up. It is indeed Dick from Richard Gilmore that,
- 31:26Paula, do you have to say Mansa? I could not remember at
- 31:29that point. Okay, I appreciate the honesty easily, the opportunity to cheat
- 31:34the absolute you could have been an opportunity to cheat, but you didn't take
- 31:37it. That's fantastic stuff. Unlike Rory. Shots fire appropriately at Rory.
- 31:45Yeah, what an astute reference of Rory. But let's see if we've got
- 31:49some astute references by our captains. Jen, what do you think Chris wrote,
- 31:56I hope you put Dick. I'm gonna have to let you down a
- 31:57third time. But if Richard actually said this, I would laugh even harder
- 32:04because I put feet Richard might have a thing. Do we ever get any
- 32:12shots? You feel like he probably does judgment outside of a tight She's always
- 32:16wearing tight, So I get no points there, but still very very good
- 32:21fate, Paula. What do you think Drew wrote here? No, I
- 32:24feel like he might have gotten it right. Did he write Dick? I
- 32:30did not. I wrote suck. I was trying with something like what is
- 32:34something you could say that would be non like not dirty, but keep him
- 32:37up dirty on the internets. My exact line of thinking exactly it was when
- 32:44he was golfing with Luke and he asked Luke if he reads, and Luke
- 32:47said yeah, that did get yeah, which is why I have a beef
- 32:53with it, because Richard reads. That's the whole thing is Rory and Richard
- 33:00over reading. And he's like, oh, you read. That's nice.
- 33:04And maybe it's just like the him playing off the fact that he didn't want
- 33:07to get to know Luke at all, but he's like, I think he
- 33:09would have known major authors that have the word dick in it or references like
- 33:15Moby Dick or Emily Dickinson or any other words based literature is dick based literature.
- 33:21And so I'm like, how are you acting so like what? I
- 33:24have no idea what you're talking about. When you're a reader, that's kind
- 33:29of your thing. Just gonna say, dick based literature is what I call
- 33:31porn. It's a shame. Order is not here to say, Amen,
- 33:39I'll say it amen. Okay, with that, we'll move on to another
- 33:44quote. Here is the the blank I would like filling now, that we've
- 33:47made a innuendo with the dick thing. It's just I am not your mother
- 33:55or your hugger. If you need some love, get a blank. I
- 34:00am not your mother or your hooker. If you need some love, geta
- 34:05I know exactly the scene and exactly who says it, trying to play it
- 34:09in my head. That was me on the last one. Okay, you
- 34:15got an answer written down, crayeh got one through ye? Okay, Paula,
- 34:19what is the do you know the correct answer for this one? I
- 34:21believe it is Hooker. It is indeed hooker. Did you have that?
- 34:24Dam I did? You got it? Honest? Is it? I got
- 34:27it in the end once I played the scene over. I got it once
- 34:30I like played the whole thing. Man, who is it? Who says
- 34:32it? Paris the tutoring thing for one of the tests. Yeah, it's
- 34:42like she's doing like a tutoring thing, and it's when Rory starts coddling her.
- 34:46I don't know how to say the person that's getting tutored. Yeah.
- 34:51Yeah, there's a lot of coddling going on around here. Let's find out
- 34:57what the what the captains wrote here? So, Paula, what do you
- 35:00think Drew wrote here, I'm going confident I think he got it right.
- 35:05I think he said hooker. I guess I'm guessing you're being really good at
- 35:07not watching my expression as you give answers. It's very clearly my reaction was
- 35:12what So no, went a lot more teddy, oh oh, dear into
- 35:22Paris Like now I realized my error. Yeah, but you know who said
- 35:25it. You know that there's a lot more aggression involved. Mm hm,
- 35:29does ryme? Does ryme? If you need some love, geta teddy?
- 35:35But not in that way? Oh God, and Jen, what do you
- 35:39think Chris wrote for this one? I think he may have said therapist therapist.
- 35:45Okay, if you if you need some love, get a therapist.
- 35:46There's been a lot of therapy talk directed towards me this episode. I don't
- 35:50know if I appreciate that. No, I said lover hooker crossed my mind,
- 35:58but I thought it was too aggressive because I did realize this pair of
- 36:00saying it's a same like, oh okay, but it did feel like it
- 36:07had to rhyme. So, yeah, you're just both more wholesome than Paris
- 36:09is. That's exactly what that is. It's not hard, Okay, No,
- 36:16points there for guessing what the partner's had. But we'll move on to
- 36:19the next quote. Blank has absolutely no place in our world. Could be
- 36:23lots of things here that a statement is made about no place for lots of
- 36:28things in this world? Can you repeat it one more time? Absolutely blank
- 36:31has absolutely no place in our world? All right, we've got an answer
- 36:37from Chris, I just can't spell apparently nice, and we have an answer
- 36:40from Drew, So Jen, what has absolutely no place in our world?
- 36:45I legitimately can't think of when this is. I'm going to just do the
- 36:50forfeit. I can't even It's so bad that I can't even put a word
- 36:53in there. What I would think? I would say? Okay, no
- 36:55answer, Pola, what do you think this one is? I also feel
- 36:59very similarly, is that I have no clue what this is. So I'm
- 37:02gonna throw out sarcasm. Okay, that is that is a good guess,
- 37:07but it's not sarcasm. The correct answer was actually reality. It's a very
- 37:12like the meta line from Lorelei when someone's pointing out the ridiculousness of that situation.
- 37:19Reality has absolutely no place in our world. But what did the partners
- 37:22put down? Let's find out, Jen, what do you think Chris wrote,
- 37:25um drama drama nice, I said, historical accuracy. I hey,
- 37:35you really lover historical acacy. These are all like adjacent to it it actually
- 37:39yeah, yeah, yeah, see I was assuming this was something that oh
- 37:45my goodness, I'm blinking on his name. The grocery store owner said,
- 37:47yeah, the do dozie said about some one of their historical rhineta. That
- 37:53was just it. That's the got from you. And then she didn't actually
- 37:59care about historical acacy. Does care about yeah, but also he sucks,
- 38:04so I don't know. Yeah, that's fad so and Paula, what do
- 38:08you think Drew wrote down nonsense nonsense? These? I think he probably also
- 38:17wrote down just a bunch of random letters that are nonsense, but with the
- 38:22word nonsense. You know. So before I reveal that, I was thinking
- 38:24similar to Chris, I was gonna build a scenario. And I'm thinking of
- 38:28just all the time that Luke has to put up with ship going on in
- 38:31Stars Hall of he doesn't want to deal with. And the only thing I
- 38:34can think of that happens enough in stars Hallow that it would fit in would
- 38:37be dance. Okay, I can totally saying that dance has no place at
- 38:43all, Barkley. It's footloot step in here. That is a very Luke
- 38:49line. Yeah, I'm right, Taylor in the show. Absolutely if they
- 38:54bring back Gilmore girls, contact you guys as right as maybe. Yeah,
- 38:59write a letter to Am that she should have added that here. Amy.
- 39:02Okay, I've got one final quote for you guys, and it's a it's
- 39:06a short one. It's simply I smell blank. It's not dick again.
- 39:13I'm glad you said that because I have to furiously delete dick out of from
- 39:19the answer. I'm just sure what the catalog that just had to like go
- 39:24in my brain was, like all the times that smell was related to the
- 39:30show. Yeah, there are some funny ones that are outside of this quote.
- 39:35Wait you say it one more time. I can. It's I smell
- 39:38blank. I'm so glad. I okay, yeah, okay, okay.
- 39:45We will look for the correct answer first from Paula. I smell snow.
- 39:50I smell snow. Did you have the same gen? Yes, yes,
- 39:52I smell snow. That's a point each. But uh, let's let's find
- 39:59out what Captain's wrote. Paula what do you what do you think that?
- 40:01Drew wrote, he has to have gotten it right because we literally just went
- 40:06through all these like Taylors with silmore girls means like yesterday so and one of
- 40:09them was too well still remembering the first fall of snow with the picture of
- 40:15Laura Lai. So if he doesn't get this right, like, that's it,
- 40:20no dinner for him, You're out. Goodbye coffee, coffee Tonight's what?
- 40:30It's still no food. It's an educated guest for sure, but uh
- 40:35yeah, it's a I'm sorry for a lack of dinner, Drew, Jen
- 40:39What do you think Chris wrote? I think he may have remembered one of
- 40:43the times where the town smelled like something. So I'm gonna go with eggs.
- 40:49I know that sounds so weird. Yeah, could be a volcan no
- 40:52nearby? Drew. I really understand you because I also wrote coffee, do
- 41:05do me and do me? And Drew good points like separately from our team?
- 41:07Are you starting a separate side? Yeah, because this podcast is we
- 41:14can't have extra Nay your more guys have one. Okay, Well with that,
- 41:20that's the end of round one. Let's ask Rory to calculate the scores.
- 41:23Got to put that Yale education to use, right. The scores are
- 41:28we have the Vicious trollops on five points and a team by Kirk who are
- 41:31also on five points, and I guess gilmour guys have one point. Yes.
- 41:37Up next is round two. Why not grab a much needed jumbo coffee?
- 41:42Will you let the commercials play so that we can afford our coffees?
- 41:45See you after this? Sorry I got lost in the hey mays nac good
- 41:57little reference with that, We're back with round two. Round two is called
- 42:02fan court. It's the game where our players have to defend popular, controversial
- 42:07fan opinions, even if they don't agree with them. And if you do
- 42:12agree with them, well, this'll be easy for you, I guess,
- 42:15but it is a couple's game, still going to make things a touch more
- 42:19difficult than our regular fan court entries. Once they receive their statement, each
- 42:24team will have two minutes to defend that statement. The problem is the first
- 42:29minute will fall on the shoulders of our captains, and then it will be
- 42:32up to our experts to try and save it in the second minute of the
- 42:37argument. I'll then score each team one to five points. Based on how
- 42:40well they made their case. I was going to have the team currently losing
- 42:45choose between a category of what type of argument they like, but it's five
- 42:49apiece, so I'll ask the guests who aren't physically here in the room,
- 42:53would you like to defend a popular controversial fan opinion about boyfriends or mothers?
- 43:00Ooh yeah, I'm gonna go with mothers. So your boyfriends, damn.
- 43:07So your statement that you have to defend, no matter how you feel about
- 43:12it is Emily Gilmore was right about everything. Oh let me know where to
- 43:17start. Whenever you already, Drew take it away and I'll let you know
- 43:21when a minute has passed. Emily Gilmore is ultimately a misunderstood character. She's
- 43:25not always in the right element and time, she grew up a different place.
- 43:30But what she gets across, what she means in her heart, what
- 43:34she wants to happen, is always for the best of everyone, and she
- 43:37truly is right all of the time, whether it be talking to Rory about
- 43:42her being in school or Lauraa and how she raises Rory. Yes, sometimes
- 43:46it can seem like they're butting heads, but ultimately she's right. She knows
- 43:51what she's doing. At the end of the day, she is not the
- 43:55perfect mother. No one is perfect. Everyone is fallible. But when it
- 44:00comes to her advice, especially to her daughter and granddaughter, she is in
- 44:04the right and she knows what she's talking about. Even in her other non
- 44:09familial territories, like the DAR, she is still the best at that,
- 44:14and everyone else tries to run the DAR I from under her is clearly wrong.
- 44:16I mean, come on, if there's one spot we can agree on,
- 44:21Emily is in charge. It's running an event, all right. It
- 44:23is time to hand the button over to your teammates. Take it away,
- 44:28Paula, Well, you set me up for success, because I truly agree
- 44:30Emily. Her method may be unconventional at times, maybe a little bit not
- 44:37the best way or not the way I would do things if ever I was
- 44:42a mother, But her heart is always in the right place, her idea
- 44:47and her goals for the future, and like them right away. So like
- 44:52she's able to kind of clock when someone is worth your time when someone is
- 44:57not. She is. You know, she's got really high standards, and
- 45:04I think that that's something to be admired. Right. She doesn't take anything
- 45:07that's half ass if those candlesticks are not exactly what is it four inches apart?
- 45:12Right? Like? That is not acceptable. You do it right,
- 45:15or you don't bother doing it at all. And that's why she goes through
- 45:19so many maids, because she's got to hold them to that standards. She
- 45:22expects it, she expects it perfectly dead on the time. That that's perfect.
- 45:27That was a really good argument. I came into this thinking she was
- 45:30one of the worst characters in the whole thing, but you two just about
- 45:32convinced me that I love it. Yeah, I mean, for all the
- 45:37reasons you said, absolutely won me over. Yeah, she's from a different
- 45:43generation, right, Like, she had no access to feminism in any way.
- 45:45So she is the way she is because of the patriarchy. Is that
- 45:49fair to say just blame men when you can. I'm on board. Yeah.
- 45:53Out of five points, I'm going to give you four points. You
- 45:57defended Emily Gilmore's character very well. Then with me. Okay, we're back,
- 46:02hopefully, dear listener. Other than this sentence right now, you won't
- 46:06have realized, but we just took a week long break because of tech issues
- 46:10here at gate Leaper's HQ. So how is everyone again? Doing good and
- 46:15fantastic. Yes, good, thank you so much for coming back a whole
- 46:19week later. Highlight up top. We went from one dog and some tech
- 46:23issues to three dogs, so hopefully issues. Yeah, hopefully more dogs kind
- 46:30of resolves all those So I think that's isn't that one of the laws of
- 46:35science that more dogs resolves tech issues? I think I work adjacent to scientists,
- 46:40and I'm pretty sure that that's I'm pretty sure that that's that's correct.
- 46:45I know I have no choice but to believe you as a person on a
- 46:46podcast, as an IT professional, you're saying I should adopt some dogs.
- 46:50Yes, absolutely, Hey, baby, heard them so vicious. That means
- 47:00you are left with a difficult fan opinion to defend about boyfriends, and your
- 47:06statement is Dean was the best partner for Rory. Yeah. Yeah, yeah,
- 47:15it's fine. No, it's totally fine. I know we can definitely
- 47:17m okay, okay, And as as per the rules of this couple versus
- 47:22couple fan caught, it will be Chris taking the lead on the argument for
- 47:25the first minute, with Jen hopefully picking up the pieces and forming some kind
- 47:30of fan accurate argument. Okay, there's gonna be a lot of grunting on
- 47:37my end. No, I'm just kidding from you and the dogs. We'll
- 47:40say the docks. We'll say the dog. All right, whenever you're ready,
- 47:44Chris, I'll start the timer. Dean. Dean is by far the
- 47:50best boyfriend that Rory had. Better than than freaking logan, nepotism, Huntsberger,
- 47:57better than gas lighting Jess. Okay, the worst part of Dean and
- 48:04Rory's relationship was when they weren't even in a relationship. It was when Dean
- 48:07was cheating on his wife with Rory. That was by far the worst part
- 48:12of them together. And they weren't technically together. So them as a high
- 48:17school couple, a standard regular high school couple, Okay, they both had
- 48:23problems. He's not perfect, no, but he was like eighteen, Okay,
- 48:31he just fell in love with a cute girl from his high school.
- 48:36All right, who's he's He's an emotional little guy. Okay, leave,
- 48:42you can end johof of the argument on he's an emotional little guy, James
- 48:45emotionally shit. Great segue. Yeah, so I'd highlight with the statement Dean
- 48:52was the best partner for Rory in high school when Rory was also dealing with
- 48:57moving through and being an only child who oftentimes had a lot of attention.
- 49:01The town loved her. She was constantly in the eye of you're doing this,
- 49:06You're gonna be a reindeer, You're gonna be a you know, all
- 49:08of these different things during different town events. Having someone who gave her more
- 49:15attention, I think actually really helped her learn how much of that, like
- 49:19center Stage, she didn't love, but what aspects she did like of it,
- 49:23which did you know, lead into the rest of the character. But
- 49:27to in the events of Dean, I will say that poor boy was sixteen
- 49:31and had multiple thirty two year old men try to fight him literally walk outside
- 49:36of buildings and throw fists with a child while he was coming in as a
- 49:40new student learning more about Rory. He literally almost went to blows with multiple
- 49:45adults, which could go to your head. And as someone who has been
- 49:49the new person many a time, if I just was at a place for
- 49:52a month and then a grown ass man came up to me and wanted to
- 49:54throw cuffs because I liked a girl, I might also react poorly. Yeah,
- 50:00that's that's fair, that's your that's your time, and you got you
- 50:04got that statement in Before Before the Time. Yeah, I just have to
- 50:07say, I don't think anyone ever described Dean as small as the boyfriend that
- 50:15the tallest man to exist in most realities, he's a tall guy's emotion exactly.
- 50:22He's just don't help them. He's a big boy. But he's a
- 50:28little guy, all right. Little guy's a state of mind exactly exactly,
- 50:34and Dean is that. I think deep down we're all little guys, and
- 50:38in a way we're all Dean inside. Oh god, I don't know if
- 50:44you want to make that. Yeah, I take it back. That's that's
- 50:49true, not coming. I mean, I think you did a pretty good
- 50:53job considering that was a tough statement. I'd love to hear, Paula,
- 50:58what did you think? How well do you think they did Dean? I
- 51:00don't know. I think it's it's in defense of Dean as a human,
- 51:04but Dean as a boyfriend, I don't know. What is a boyfriend but
- 51:08a human though, a human that you were choosing to coke, habit,
- 51:13date and be with. It's a human plus things fair, I've got that.
- 51:20Chris spent the first thirty seconds defaming of the boyfriends, which in a
- 51:22court a court of law does not stand up in a state of defense.
- 51:27Also, that they were just a lot of Chris's argument was that they's just
- 51:30a standard high school couple, you know, just an everyday high school couple,
- 51:34which yeah, I guess you could say like relationship immaturity that definitely stands
- 51:37there. So that's that's valid. Yeah, that's kind of what I meant,
- 51:40I guess by like it's a high school couple, Yeah, which yeah,
- 51:46absolutely, which Jen built on really well by saying that like Dean filled
- 51:52Rory's needs at that exact moment of needing the attention of something that drew her
- 51:55away from the town. So yeah, I get it, and grown men
- 52:00point very valid as well. So I'm also going to give you guys full
- 52:02points now that we're past the points. My favorite thing about having Chris watched
- 52:08the entire series last year was every time that he's like, I'm fuck Dean,
- 52:15but also like, why is Luke constantly wanting to throw fists with him?
- 52:17He is a junior in high school and Luke is like minimum thirty three
- 52:23years old, and with all of Rory's boyfriends, he just wants to fight
- 52:28all of them. And I'm like, dude, you're an adult. What
- 52:31are you doing? I mean, I think for Dean, the argument is
- 52:35that he looks like an adult. True, so you forgets to be fair.
- 52:38I'm pretty sure Jared Peladaki was like twenty, so maybe that was a
- 52:44factor. Yeah, those thirty five year old men just chase a twenty year
- 52:46old. It's all right, it's better. I'm thirty two and I get
- 52:51in fights with twenty year olds all the time. But enough about your weekends.
- 52:57Let's move on to another round of fan court. This time we have
- 53:02two categories to choose from, just like last time, and this time it
- 53:07is Lorelei or Rory. It's if you would like a statement about Lorelei or
- 53:12Rory, and it's some statement about one or other two. Okay, yes,
- 53:17yes, yes, we are still firmly in fan court. I know
- 53:21it's been a week. Also, I had to remind myself the recess for
- 53:25a while, exactly just like real court. So vicious trollops. I think
- 53:31it is your turn to decide which of these you would like. I would
- 53:35say, Laura La Yeah, Laura okay. With Lorelei, okay, it
- 53:42might be a tougher argument to make, even if she is the safer girl,
- 53:46because I've seen I saw this argument across the internet. Lorelei Gilmore is
- 53:52a bad mother. Laura Gilmore is a bad mother. So you have to
- 53:57defend that statement, no matter what you think about it. Hmm. Okay,
- 54:05okah, yeah, I think, I think, Okay, I think
- 54:07I'm ready. All right, take it away. Okay. So Flora Gilmore
- 54:13is a terrible mother, all right? And how better do we know that
- 54:17is? Because she raised debatably the worst person in all of Gilmore Rory?
- 54:22All right, Like what else do I need to even say at that point?
- 54:27Rory? She just does not know how to function well in interpersonal relationships,
- 54:34professionally, romantically. And all of that came from her main character mom,
- 54:40because like, come on, how can you have a good be grounded
- 54:45as a person when your mom is the main character and makes you also her
- 54:52side mate, her co star in a tiny town where everyone co signs on
- 54:58you being the main character. You're so Loralai is a bad person, just
- 55:05bad person. I'm just kidding. She's a bad mother. She's a bad
- 55:07mother because of all that, very good That is your time. We'll hand
- 55:12it over to Jen. Take it away. Yeah, So I would emphasize
- 55:15the aspects of the town and the way in which that she created an environment
- 55:22where her daughter to speak to her motherhood. Her daughter was not given proper
- 55:29boundaries or learned how to create boundaries, but that Lorali controlled those boundaries when
- 55:36it would serve LAURALI. So one being, as we look at our previous
- 55:42argument being the relationship with Dean, Loralai wanted Wory to get out of the
- 55:46environment that she grew up in a lah Emiline Richard and kind of the wealthy
- 55:52Connecticut life, so it was very jazzed and was blinded to all of the
- 55:57unhealthy behaviors that happened in that relationship and in most cases defended the boyfriend and
- 56:02not taught her daughter how to not be in an emotionally relationship and because of
- 56:08that then shooting her into while the Connecticut wealth just confused and ended up making
- 56:15it so that she wasn't able to make healthy boundaries and basically every setting,
- 56:20which I do think is a key factor of being good mother, fair enough,
- 56:23good, good point. You're always going to win me over by bringing
- 56:27wealth into it as well. Before I'd like to ask, just because I'm
- 56:30curious Paula Drew, how do you think they did that? Defending that statement
- 56:34A plus plus plus plus What is the measure of a good parent if not
- 56:39how their children turn out? And you know, you could say boundaries was
- 56:47you know, it was a different time and now she should have taught just
- 56:53how to behave in the world. So yes, I what a wonderful argument.
- 56:59Like feels to cop out to go after Rory so hard in a Lareli
- 57:02defense. I realized I was doing that like halfway through, and I said,
- 57:07oh shit, I'm really digging into Rory. But that's it, like
- 57:15your daughter is a reflection of your your mothering. Like as much as I
- 57:17love LAURALI, you're right I think her biggest flaws are mother related. Yeah.
- 57:22I think you were stepping close into the defamation again, Chris, But
- 57:27like a good team, Jen managed to pick it up and run with the
- 57:30oh yeah, this is why it's a bad reflection of and brought up the
- 57:36boundaries as Paula said, yeah, it's that was a really strong argument.
- 57:40I I did also enjoy at one point, how Chris, you got a
- 57:44little matter by being like, how how can she be a good person?
- 57:47Her mother is the co star is the star, and she made her the
- 57:51Coast star. Also, no man character has a chance in anything ever,
- 57:55then, yeah, yeah, for sure, how dare the main character?
- 58:00Honestly shit, every single main character is a bad person. And that's what
- 58:07I learned from community. Yeah, main characters, stop having main characters syndrome.
- 58:16Check out the community gate leabers. Yes, I think I won that
- 58:22one. I'm also realizing my podcast is very similar in that energy of screw
- 58:29main characters. Damn it. I was very valid with Supernatural though. To
- 58:34be fair, now that that aside, Chris, that little funny Messa thing
- 58:38aside, I'm giving you the full five points. I love the argument.
- 58:43I loved how you showed the cooperation uh and picking up on each other's argument.
- 58:45Good stuff. Oh god, I'm worried. What do we have to
- 58:47defend? Well, it's funny you should say that because what we have here.
- 58:58I may have mentioned throughout this at the top of the show that Rory
- 59:00is very much viewed as the villain of Gilmore Girls by so many people in
- 59:06the in the fan community. But a team by Kirk, the team you
- 59:09will have to defend very much. As Paula exactly predicted, is Rory is
- 59:15the hero of Gilmore Girls. You wouldn't think, you wouldn't think it's a
- 59:19controversial opinion, but it really is. I also just may just say how
- 59:23riled up Drew is that I can literally hear him. It's a round sound,
- 59:28like he's in the basement right now and I'm upstairs and I can hear
- 59:32him through the headbones from another floor. This is how much she's gotten riled
- 59:38up over this topic. Okay, it's only it's a shame. You've only
- 59:45got sixty seconds. Take it away when you're ready. So Ory truly is
- 59:47the hero of I wouldn't say so much of the show, but of Starr's
- 59:51Hollow, which is where the show takes place. She has been raised to
- 59:54be the star against her will. The entire town treats her like some sort
- 1:00:00of icon, her mother the pseudo mayor of the town. The way the
- 1:00:05shops talk about her, the way the town just comes together any event they're
- 1:00:07doing. Rory has put on a friggin pedestal Carrie throughout the town. She's
- 1:00:13the Winter Princess. She's the star of every show they do, unless it's
- 1:00:15the dance recycle for some reason. Then it's always a little kids, but
- 1:00:19she is like idolized in this way by this town that puts her on this
- 1:00:22pedestal, which makes it hard for her to exist in the real world outside
- 1:00:27of Stars Hollow. So we are seeing a main character have to deal with
- 1:00:31reality when reality isn't what she was led to believe. So she truly is
- 1:00:37the hero that we all need, someone who deals with real life and has
- 1:00:42to see the consequences of, you know, being told you're the greatest writer
- 1:00:45of all time. Here's a free town paper that you can run, so
- 1:00:49you then go to school to become a writer and find out maybe she's not
- 1:00:52the best writer and had there been more critical Okay, that's your time,
- 1:00:55Drew. I'm sorry, but that was excellent stuff. We'll had to over
- 1:00:58to Paula now to finish the argument. So look, Rory, as we
- 1:01:01said, she is the hero of Stars Hollow, but that continues with her
- 1:01:06anywhere else she goes, Right, she goes to Chilton, she shows up
- 1:01:09late to Chilton, she doesn't start with all these kids, and she's immediately
- 1:01:14like shoots to the top is number one, is valedictorian, right, So
- 1:01:17everywhere she goes she is a hero. And when we're talking about her being
- 1:01:22the hero of Gilmore Girls, right, Gilmore Girls, first of all,
- 1:01:24would not exist without Rory. But they were going to do a show about
- 1:01:28Laurelai at Emily. They were never going to be the gil Margots. It
- 1:01:31was always going to be all about Rory. From the moment that Rory was
- 1:01:36born. Life, the world, the grandparents, the people in the town,
- 1:01:40it was always going to be all about this child. It's like baby
- 1:01:45Jesus happened to Laura Lai, the perfect person, and you know she takes
- 1:01:52that with her. She goes to Yale. Oh, all of a sudden,
- 1:01:54she's in charge. She's the editor of the paper. She is just
- 1:01:59like ruling the world. That's perfectly on the That is your time. In
- 1:02:05conclusion, Gilbour Girls is a modern retelling of the Bible and Jesus, Oh
- 1:02:12my God, because war life would be God? Or is it the other
- 1:02:15way? Jesus man? I think on that for a while. I think,
- 1:02:22or does Christopher become God? And I am wish. I don't really
- 1:02:30know. We believe Rory was a pretty great person, but not our Messiah.
- 1:02:36Yeah, for sure, for sure. I love that. I really
- 1:02:40love the like hero of Stars Hall and just one of the best arguments of
- 1:02:45what Drew said. I go to the scene where she's supposed to be ice
- 1:02:47cream Queen and right we're going to college, and Taylor's like, yeah,
- 1:02:52because our ice cream queen didn't have time to be here, and she's like
- 1:02:58she goes up on the stage. I've business. I've been a program every
- 1:03:01time for Thanksgiving, I'm in every single everything, like I can't do this
- 1:03:06one. I'm sorry, drop my back, and like Gen slapsile stage and
- 1:03:12it's one of the best scenes of like kind of breaking the meta of the
- 1:03:15town. And I think it was like a really interesting moment from a writer's
- 1:03:17perspective to be like, yeah, there is a transition here. She's going
- 1:03:22after college now, like this is them the week of them having to buy
- 1:03:23all of her school supplies to go to college, and how that really determines
- 1:03:28the way because Lorelei is always stars Hollow, Rory is stars Hollow, Chiltern,
- 1:03:34Yale and beyond, and so it's like we're really following her when we
- 1:03:37see and like feel big shifts in the show. And then I just want
- 1:03:42to like I'm actually myself. Since you said editor of the Yale Daily News
- 1:03:45in My autistic Panic my Brain, last clip of the episode the other part
- 1:03:52two of this again It's been a week. I mentioned that the go get
- 1:03:58a Hooker line was from Paris talking about her tutoring in the Yale Daily News,
- 1:04:02which sounds Banana's the second I realized what I did, because she would
- 1:04:06be talking to children and not adults, but that is her like editorship once
- 1:04:14Doyle leaves her, like speech in taking over the Yale Daily News before Rory
- 1:04:18takes over when Paris loses her mind when trying to run it, which we
- 1:04:25literally just watched that episode, but just wanted to highlight if you are a
- 1:04:29go my Girls fan and felt pain when I said that thirty minutes ago.
- 1:04:33Know that I realized it at one am my message both Drew and Matt be
- 1:04:38like, I booked up. I showed Paul the message the next morning she
- 1:04:42goes, yeah, but I want to get a correct grown there. That's
- 1:04:45he's rude. The other thing I was like, damn, if I was
- 1:04:47in Paul's position, I'd be like, I don't want to say anything,
- 1:04:49but like that's totally wrong. So it was also taking weight off, like
- 1:04:55I like the best friendship we're building right there is going to step in and
- 1:05:00yeah, it was just a funny moment to be like one am like,
- 1:05:03hey, mad sorry you're asleep. I don't know what time in the Canada,
- 1:05:06but I yes, I don't know what time it is in Canada.
- 1:05:13We have six times all of the time, which one of all. But
- 1:05:20it's also good to hear you admit, Jen, you being the cause of
- 1:05:24the tech issues so that you could actually correct stuff when was looking during No,
- 1:05:33there you go, you were You were only wrong for about thirty minutes.
- 1:05:38As far as anyone is consented, it is just so hard to defend
- 1:05:42Rory because all I could ever think about is like, what if every other
- 1:05:45child in starts Hall of the Things they live their lives? Does Elaine live?
- 1:05:51It's lane never like there's a whole high school in that town. Yeah,
- 1:05:57people have grown up. It's at the first sixty hearing their lives and
- 1:06:00so much shatter. I think you took the perfect angle with the defenses that
- 1:06:06like it, both in terms of how it's written and then just how the
- 1:06:11town treats her, like, yeah, of course she's the hero. She's
- 1:06:14made to be the hero. Against her own will. So when she acts
- 1:06:16a bit like a villain, what you're supposed to do, she's just being
- 1:06:19rebellious. That's what That's what heroes do. So yeah, the full five
- 1:06:23points for a team by kirk Okay, that's the end of the round.
- 1:06:27Let's ask Michelle to calculate the latest scores and deliver them in a beautiful French
- 1:06:31accent or whatever that was. And those scores are vicious Trollops are on fourteen
- 1:06:38points, and a team by Kirka also on fourteen points. It's still all
- 1:06:42tied. Mother of God, that's better. Round three next, But first,
- 1:06:49some ads. It really helps keep this podcast alive if you don't skip
- 1:06:54them. Just think of me as one of those buskers from Stars Hollow,
- 1:06:57except instead of beautiful melodic turn of the millennium acoustics, you get highly specific
- 1:07:02fandom references like this one. See you after this. Round three is called
- 1:07:14mister and Missus versus miss and miss although it's technically mister and missus and mister
- 1:07:18and Missus versus miss and miss but that takes too long to say, so
- 1:07:23I shortened it. I'll cut that explanation. And this one in this game
- 1:07:28I'll be testing our couples to see how well they know not each other,
- 1:07:31but the iconic pair of lourele I and Rory. In turn, I'll ask
- 1:07:35mister and missus style questions about one of the Gilmore girls, like what's Laurel's
- 1:07:41favorite drink. I'll then count down from three, and our couples will have
- 1:07:45to answer at the exact same time. If their answer matches, they get
- 1:07:48two points. If only one person says the correct answer, it'll be one
- 1:07:54point, and then we'll interrogate the incorrect answer because that'll be funny to do.
- 1:07:59And all of this info is from the fandom wiki, so if it's
- 1:08:01wrong, blame the moderators. Always blame the moderate Okay, so we will
- 1:08:10begin with vicious trollops. What is Laureli's favorite band? Or who is Loreli's
- 1:08:15favorite band? Bands are people? I'm so angry because I know the exact
- 1:08:18episode where she says it. Oh my god, I have my answer.
- 1:08:24I don't think it's right, but I'm gonna say it all right. I'll
- 1:08:27do the countdown and as close to on zero as you possibly can. Three,
- 1:08:30two, one, it's not I'm so mad. Oh two fantastic cancers
- 1:08:42there. What's the other answer was Creed and we have the Rolling Stones and
- 1:08:45Creed. It's not I'm so mad say the right answer unless they have to
- 1:08:51do it too. I mean, Paula, do you know the right answer?
- 1:08:54There's no points on the line, but I'm curious, is it the
- 1:08:57Bangal? It is the Bengals? Yeah, the Bengals or which I wasn't
- 1:09:04going to think of. But then she also mentions the band t shirts that
- 1:09:08she put were and it was a different band, Yeah, rolling Rolling Stones,
- 1:09:12like an evergreen band. That is a good guess that would fit in
- 1:09:15with Loreliza their interests, and they correct answer. It should have been the
- 1:09:20correct answer. Larelized wrong, just I know they go to the Bengals line,
- 1:09:29it's the only band I think they actually ever go to, like when
- 1:09:31we see like footage of so it was the only band I could think of.
- 1:09:34So I was like, it's probably the Bengals, but actually be wrong.
- 1:09:38And there was the whole every one of these wrong in the episode.
- 1:09:41There's a whole backstory about how much she loves them. Yeah. Someone on
- 1:09:45the fandom wiki claimed that it's also tied with the Go Gos because she mentions
- 1:09:50the Go Goes as well, but the Bengals. She says that her favorite
- 1:09:55small Times, and there's a whole episode as well devoted to them. That
- 1:09:58makes sense, So no points that, But I enjoyed hearing Creed referenced.
- 1:10:02That's always fun, So we will move over to it. As a Canadian,
- 1:10:11do you not defend Nickelback? Is that? Are they not your cultural
- 1:10:14output? Nod? Okay, okay, I like the New Pornographers. There's
- 1:10:19a lot of good Canadian bands to Yeah. Of course Michelle's favorite singer.
- 1:10:29Absolutely, everyone knows that it's Creed. Okay, A team by Kirk.
- 1:10:36We're still talking about Laurel I here, So what is Laureli's favorite flower?
- 1:10:43What is Laureli's favorite flower? Oh? Okay, I think I have an
- 1:10:47answer. I'm locked in. I'm gonna do the countdown and on three as
- 1:10:50close to it at the same time as possible three two one. It is
- 1:10:58indeed yellow daisies. Paula has the right answer there. There's there's a whole
- 1:11:01episode about that. Max is beautiful. Yes, she turns down the sunflowers.
- 1:11:10Where do they come up somewhere? Am I crazy? What is a
- 1:11:13sunflower? If not just a really big yellow daisy. You know exactly,
- 1:11:17that's what I see, what you're saying. But for the purposes of this
- 1:11:20game, no, everyone knows the plant classifications. There's cactus, rose,
- 1:11:25yellow flowers. Yeah exactly, Yeah, our good good knowledge there, Paula,
- 1:11:29that's a that's a point of her team by Kirk. That still it
- 1:11:31still makes me laugh every time. Okay, still on lorele I here,
- 1:11:38but we will move back on over to Vicious Trollops. What does Suki consider
- 1:11:42to be the only happy part of laurelized childhood? What does Suki consider to
- 1:11:47be the only happy part of Lorelized childhood? Listening to Creed naturally? Just
- 1:11:56god stop specifically? Oh? Okay, got it? Wow, Okay,
- 1:12:01Okay, I'm going to do the countdown. Okay, three two, one's
- 1:12:08friendship. Okay, it's actually a sweet answer from Chris, but it's very
- 1:12:11wrong. It is indeed her doll house. Oh right, is it?
- 1:12:17I can't I know I've seen this episode, but I can't remember. Is
- 1:12:20it? It's jack very lavish? She is over. Yeah, it's really
- 1:12:24lavish dollhouse. Jackson stays over at Laura Lei's because he's sick or something.
- 1:12:28I don't remember, but he like falls on it and breaks it. She's
- 1:12:31like, it's the only happy part of childhood, and then she has to
- 1:12:34go, oh yeah, okay, yeah, sorry. Could have easily been
- 1:12:41Chris, I suppose in some way, not as far as Richard and Emily
- 1:12:44are concerned. Okay, A team by Kirk. Here is your question,
- 1:12:49the final one about Lorelei. How did Laura I break her leg at age
- 1:12:55twenty nine? How did Laurel I break her leg at age twenty nine?
- 1:13:00Oh no, oh, oh dear, I have unanswered. It's not the
- 1:13:05right one, but I have one really good questions. Let's i'll do the
- 1:13:09countdown. We'll see three two one. Impressing a boy. So impressing a
- 1:13:16boy and trip tripped over tripped over a tennis net is what I was going
- 1:13:19to say, over tripped over a tennis net. It's a I mean,
- 1:13:24that's but yeah, equally whimsical as the real answer. I think it was
- 1:13:29attempting a headstand in yoga class, which, oh dear, I now feel
- 1:13:33like I need to look at that episode to see if it was to impress
- 1:13:36a boy in some way, like I mean, in fact, it was
- 1:13:40in a yoga class. I'm probably gonna say no, probably not. Probably
- 1:13:45well, age twenty nine. Age twenty nine is before the show, right,
- 1:13:48because when the show starts, she's thirty two. So it's some batcollar
- 1:13:51reference. Yeah, yes, definitely some reference to why she's not why she
- 1:13:57doesn't do things athletic. I do just want to call it, Paul,
- 1:14:00because I almost said the same thing, only because it's how my brother broke
- 1:14:02his arm. Okay, where my brain? What? You gotta watch those
- 1:14:10nets? You know he did it to impress a girl. Create a backstory
- 1:14:15from us. We're going to be wrong with style, all right? Should
- 1:14:23we move on to Rory have some mercy? How well you know the other
- 1:14:26half of this show's iconic duo see okay, vicious trollops. Here is your
- 1:14:30first question about Rory. In which class did Rory get her first ever d's?
- 1:14:38In which class did Rory get her first ever D? Which I understand
- 1:14:42in America is a fail It's no passing fail. Failure is only it's a
- 1:14:46passing fail. Oh really, get do then that's the like American He's get
- 1:14:56elephants? What is this what we're doing? There's no It goes from D
- 1:15:00to always bothered me. Oh there's no E. Yeah, interesting, Yeah,
- 1:15:04you should have been for like emergency school meeting. I don't know you're
- 1:15:10gonna f You're gonna we used to say for effort for FM. So sorry,
- 1:15:16Oh no, I remember the question. Okay, are you ready for
- 1:15:23the countdown? Yeah? Sure? Three? Two? One? Financial class
- 1:15:29at Yale. Okay, you've got financial class at Yale and math. It
- 1:15:32is no either of those, Paula. Do you know the answer to this
- 1:15:35one? It was English? I believe is English? English? Was it
- 1:15:41in Caldron? Does she gets like multiple? Okay, specify you first or
- 1:15:49just he said first? Her first D was dan. All right, let's
- 1:15:56get that's true. I was gonna make that same shot. I don't worry.
- 1:16:00Somebody had to. She does get to be on a finish. She
- 1:16:02does get a D in some financial thought about English. But then I was
- 1:16:06just like, that doesn't make any sense for Rory to get a D.
- 1:16:10I think that's why they didn't. Yeah. Yeah, but it was with
- 1:16:13Max Medina. Max is the one who told LAURALI and relationships, right,
- 1:16:20my god, it's all coming together. Ask the question again. We got
- 1:16:24it this time. No redos, there's no tax issues. This time.
- 1:16:31Okay, A seam by carries your question about Rory. Who is Rory's journalistic
- 1:16:38idol? You could broadly say who is her idol? As well? Who
- 1:16:41is Rory's journalistic idol. It's like one of those things where I can distinctly
- 1:16:45recall the name coming up in conversations with Richard, but I can't name a
- 1:16:49single journalist because I'm a degenerate. I know, like the initials, like,
- 1:16:56I know what it starts with, but I'm having trouble put it because
- 1:16:59it's actually like a real person who eventually guests on the show, but I
- 1:17:03can't remember her actual name, despite how famous she is. I think because
- 1:17:08it is hearing that it is tougher. If you get like either her first
- 1:17:12name or her last name, I'll give you it. I won't change my
- 1:17:15answer because the one I had was male, but I'll just go with my
- 1:17:16head. Oh shoot, it's all good. Of course, Rory's idol is
- 1:17:21female. She's not going to idolize a man. Come on now, all
- 1:17:25right, it suck. So here we go three two one something with an
- 1:17:31area. It's not medaling, all right, it's you know, it's a
- 1:17:40it's Christianne Amanpour. Oh my lord, I was off completely And yeah,
- 1:17:45Paulie, you're absolutely right. She does guests and the show guests in season
- 1:17:48seven because she's at the inn and she's like Christian Jamier is at the end
- 1:17:53and she's like, no, she's not. She shows up in her pajamas
- 1:17:55and she's like, you didn't tell me. I told you to change.
- 1:18:00Fantastic. Yeah. I love that they had the actual character guest as well,
- 1:18:04Like I say, character, real person. Okay, And as you
- 1:18:08can tell, these Rory ones are harder because I classificate classicate leaper's fashion.
- 1:18:12I wanted the questions to get harder throughout the round. So I think this
- 1:18:15next question is emblematic of that. Okay, Vicious, what time exactly was
- 1:18:24Rory born? That's what time exactly was Rory born, which, of course
- 1:18:28is something we all know about us significant others that we can all do in
- 1:18:31a standard game of mister and missus. That's actually say mine, and if
- 1:18:35you didn't, it would be very confusing why we do in an entire tradition
- 1:18:40around my birth hour. Sometimes I forget about why traditions happen, though,
- 1:18:44so it took me a second just now to remember all right, I remember,
- 1:18:47it's fine, Okay, we can have a time in my head from
- 1:18:54all of those. I don't know how many possible minutes there are to choose
- 1:18:57from. How many minutes are in a day at least a hand go to
- 1:19:00be at least a handful of minutes, all right, bare minimum minute min
- 1:19:05uh okay, three, two, one, eleven eight. I had two
- 1:19:13am and I heard eleven forty eight. I love how specific that was because
- 1:19:16it was also a specific time. The actual answer, Paula, do you
- 1:19:20know this something in the four o'clock hour? It is? Yeah, it's
- 1:19:24it's four oh three am in the morning. Yes, yeah, it was
- 1:19:30in the morning. Yeah, I knew. I remember talking about like her
- 1:19:32being born at night, So I guess I'm wrong. That's kind of what
- 1:19:35I was thinking. It was called into bed. Well, yeah, four
- 1:19:39oh three in the morning. Exact moment, Yeah, exact moment. Thing
- 1:19:45a couple of times. But like maybe if you're thinking the night time,
- 1:19:47she does go in when they do the flashback episode, she goes in at
- 1:19:51night. But then you, you know, have labor that makes sense checks,
- 1:19:59So you're very familiar Chris with all the labor he's been in and around
- 1:20:06so much, so much labor. Okay, yeah, these are these are
- 1:20:11tough questions. Definitely think I get yeah, okay, those too mentioned there,
- 1:20:16but these these last two questions definitely just things mentioned in conversations. So
- 1:20:20a team by Kirk. Here is your question, as a child, what
- 1:20:25happened to Rory on that pony ride? As a child, what happened to
- 1:20:30Rory on that pony ride? I can recall this conversation. I think I
- 1:20:34know what this is. I got nothing even as a super fan. This
- 1:20:38is tough. I can remember the scene around this conversation. All right,
- 1:20:45I'm ready. You got an answer, Pola, I'll go with the one
- 1:20:48that's in my head. Nice? Nice, all right? Three? Two
- 1:20:54one? It ran away? You both, I mean you both said the
- 1:20:58same thing. Good job matching on the the same time. Incorrect answer.
- 1:21:02I feel like Jen might know. Sorry, Uh, it died, Yes,
- 1:21:09it did die. The pony died once she got on it, and
- 1:21:15start right away, so they were kind of right from the point to heaven.
- 1:21:23I could give you the point, don't you dare? I'll point.
- 1:21:30I never remember the scene, like I remember there being a moment where Rory
- 1:21:32is discussing like why she doesn't like being around ponies and horses and it's because
- 1:21:35of that memory. Yeah, they also made Lorelai also makes the joke when
- 1:21:40she's around the horses at the Dragonfly and she's like, don't get closer,
- 1:21:44and she's like, it was one time and it wasn't my fault. Even
- 1:21:49the owner said that it was already kind of like like they like she like
- 1:21:54justifies the whole like pony ride thing, like the the lore Legs believes her
- 1:21:58daughter has the ability to kill horses on worse than ever. All right,
- 1:22:04that's the end of round three. Let's ask Richard Gilmore to calculate the latest
- 1:22:10scores. Should be easy enough for a guy who made his millions calculating how
- 1:22:14to profit from the desperate fuck Richard Gilmore and everything he has his He absolutely
- 1:22:24has his sweet moments in the show. The actor's great m He's one of
- 1:22:28my favorite characters in I'll be honest. Yeah, very compelling, very compelling.
- 1:22:31Okay, let's have a look at those scores. The scores are still
- 1:22:34very close. Vicious Trollops are on sixteen points and a team by Kirk just
- 1:22:39behind on fifteen points. Were hard. Yeah, that was a very tough
- 1:22:43round. Yeah, I contributed absolutely nothing to that round. You referenced Creed.
- 1:22:49Come on, you've been wanting to do that on a podcast for ages.
- 1:22:56Yeah, let's do Creed way down the line. That's way down the
- 1:23:00list. Hey, they're going on tour again, all right, come on.
- 1:23:03Single. They're definitely one of those bands where it's like, I'm sure
- 1:23:15I have like seven of their songs in my UNEs library, don't know which
- 1:23:18ones they are, Oh for sure, they're definitely referenced in the ship.
- 1:23:23I'm pretty sure there's a whole pre conversation between Leane and Rory. Interesting,
- 1:23:29like someone one of the guys likes Creed and they're just ridiculing him for it.
- 1:23:33I don't know if it's one of Lauraied boyfriends or it's probably Dean.
- 1:23:38Okay, before we get to the quick fire around, let's talk prizes this
- 1:23:43episode. Star prize. It's the concept of independence, Laurel. I did
- 1:23:46it and it was good for her. But if you do happen to have
- 1:23:49grandparents with toxic amounts of generational wealth, bleed them dry and redistribute it,
- 1:23:56you know, to own the cons I don't know, but a winning team
- 1:23:59will also receive a full scholarship to Harvard University. Oh oh, you all
- 1:24:06want to go to Yale? Now, well this is this is worthless.
- 1:24:10Then get rid of that Harvard trash three hundred grand down the drain. But
- 1:24:17that's okay. Up next is our crucial quick fire around. After some ads
- 1:24:23ads like this one for a hot cup of coffee, a slice of homemade
- 1:24:28apple pie, or a home style breakfast to kickstart your day, why not
- 1:24:31visit Luke's Diner because it's fictional grower. Our final quick fire around will test
- 1:24:45our players broader pop culture knowledge. And it's called Mothers and Daughters because what
- 1:24:50else does Gilmore Girls represent more effectively than that special, tumultuous relationship between mothers
- 1:24:57and the smaller version of them that they so desperate we want to pilot.
- 1:25:00What a cycle? Shout out to my sisters, this sounds like a nightmare.
- 1:25:06In this game, I will give our players clues to mother slash daughter
- 1:25:11duos from pop culture history. Some are fictional characters and some are irl humans
- 1:25:15or you know people. Those clues will be given in the style of the
- 1:25:19mom of the duo having a caffeine fueled rant about their daughter's behavior. It's
- 1:25:25then up to our players to buzz in and name the daughter of that duo.
- 1:25:30Oh, get a point if we name what it's from, but not
- 1:25:34the daughter. You know what, if you say the daughter from, I'll
- 1:25:39say yes, because some of these can be pretty tough. So if you
- 1:25:42say the daughter from and then the property. Hey, I'm terrible at names,
- 1:25:48and we buzz in by yelling out our team names. You do.
- 1:25:53Indeed, it is quick fire. So you buzz in by yelling out your
- 1:25:56team name. So I guess you can reduce it to one word if you'd
- 1:25:59like. We're going with Kirk nice, well was vicious? Such doesn't have
- 1:26:09the same There is, of course a classic Gates Leapers twist. However,
- 1:26:15you need to say go to your room after you say the name of the
- 1:26:18daughter, otherwise I cannot. I cannot give you the point. So let's
- 1:26:23do a practice one. Well, for one, she stars in the same
- 1:26:27kinds of films as me, and she's almost famous for what for knowing how
- 1:26:31to lose a guy in ten days? Yes, paula room, Yeah,
- 1:26:36exactly, that would be exactly how you do it. Shit, I feel
- 1:26:42like this is going to be really good for us, all right, let's
- 1:26:45see how this goes. We'll start the timer. Where do I start?
- 1:26:48Her rock music is so loud. Oh get this. She hid her belly
- 1:26:53button piercing from me and I had to body swap into her. Find out
- 1:26:59Friday, that'll do. Yes. Oh, my daughter has spent her life
- 1:27:08starring in those space war things, but she was their princess after all.
- 1:27:13Yes, and that's gonna be christ just Harry Fisher's daughter who's also in the
- 1:27:16Star Wars. Go to your room. Oh interesting, you've gone a generation
- 1:27:19down, but you are still technically correct because Carrie Fisher's daughter was also in
- 1:27:24Star Wars. So you've you've done the Gilmore Girls thing I was. I
- 1:27:27was looking for, sort of going from Debbie Reynolds to Carrie Fisher, then
- 1:27:31gone from You've gone from Carrie Fisher. So I've still got to give you
- 1:27:33the point. Billy Lord, Billy Lord. I fully forgot that that she
- 1:27:40was Debbie reynolds daughter. Holy ship. That's why I was having a moment
- 1:27:43like, oh, it's Carrie Fisher, but like is her mother in Star
- 1:27:45Wars? I forget. I have like a roll on my head, But
- 1:27:54yet I can't believe my daughter lectured my childhood hero. I know us was
- 1:28:00everywhere this summer, and it was partly my fault for bringing Barbie home.
- 1:28:03But I'm under a lot of stress to be perfect. If my name isn't
- 1:28:08America Fererra, it's true, it's gotta be Oh, my god, daughter
- 1:28:15in a Barbie movie, Well, it's it's it's whatever her daughter is in
- 1:28:17the Barbie movie. That's fine. I included Barbie in the in the answer
- 1:28:23there, but that's fine. That was before I realized I was going to
- 1:28:26take those take those answers. I'm gonna give you the point from the Barbie
- 1:28:30movie. What's her name? Yeah, Sasha is the name of the daughter.
- 1:28:34Yeah, my daughter. I mean, I think I'm right when I
- 1:28:42say she's literally a multiverse destroying entity called Jobu Tapaki. So this isn't entirely
- 1:28:48my fault. But I may also have had a slight problem with her girlfriend
- 1:28:53and been mildly homophobic. This is coming from me, the voice of Michelle
- 1:28:58Yo. Yes, Paula Stephanie Sue's character in Everything Everywhere, all at once,
- 1:29:04Yep, absolutely everything everywhere. Yes, this damn nice and so good,
- 1:29:13dang it, okay nice, which I haven't seen, by the way,
- 1:29:15which just it is so good. My daughter is ghastly and I adore
- 1:29:27it. She's a horrible goth child who recently got asillennial rebrand. Yes,
- 1:29:33room, Yes, go to your room Wednesday, Adams. I cannot believe
- 1:29:38my only daughter would turn it invisible on me like this. And on top
- 1:29:43of that, as I sit here, Oh, I think it was just
- 1:29:45Chris that I got through on that visual girl from the Violet from the Incredibles,
- 1:29:50go to your room. Yeah, absolutely lovely stuff. If my daughter
- 1:29:57thinks she can invite three separate men from I passed this island. Yes,
- 1:30:01Chris again, is Chris the daughter from Mom and Me? Go to your
- 1:30:05room? Yep, it is, I was, I was a second both,
- 1:30:13I'm doing that. I do this one. Sophie is the name of
- 1:30:16the character played by Amanda se Fred. She's not my daughter, but she's
- 1:30:20still family. But that doesn't mean I can't be mad at her. She
- 1:30:25brought a mischievous blue alien. Yes, Chris Ship the daughter from Leelo and
- 1:30:31Stitch go to your room. Well, the daughter from Leelan Stitch. Yeah,
- 1:30:36Leila, oh sho Ship. I never I'm giving you. I'm giving
- 1:30:44you the point I think it actually Win died me, Chris. I think
- 1:30:50maybe I've seen that movie once. I don't. I don't remember. Is
- 1:30:56like I don't know who. But that's really no excuse. Her name is
- 1:30:59in the title of the movie. It's it was the realization. It's like
- 1:31:06what no, I said it right? Just slow to respond. This is
- 1:31:15supposed to be around, Drew, And of course mother figures aren't always your
- 1:31:23biological mum. Okay, so next one, my daughter has the audacity to
- 1:31:27fly around the world on her record breaking to her, how am I supposed
- 1:31:30to get around now? And I'm her mama, And if you ask me,
- 1:31:33she's yes, and it's gonna be Drew Taylor Swift, go to your
- 1:31:38room. It is it's Taylor Swift. Yeah. First, Mama Swift is
- 1:31:42an entity. She is Cannon. She gets more hype when she comes out
- 1:31:45when she walks the I'm not surprised. And Taylor, she was on my
- 1:31:49side because mothers are a reflection of how they raise their daughters, right,
- 1:31:53so that's why they go crazy for true. Okay, next one, my
- 1:31:58daughters take your pick. This loads my daughters have yes. Name one Chloe
- 1:32:04Courtney yep, that's why I've got here. Ye. Yeah, go to
- 1:32:11your room. Seriously, anyway, go to your houses, in your your
- 1:32:15room, in your own mansion. Okay, I jumped to your well for
- 1:32:24starters. She wants to fly off to the East coast and leave me here.
- 1:32:28I do everything for her, And what does she do? Run around
- 1:32:30Sacramento with Timothy shallow May that's what. No idea on this one, Nope,
- 1:32:38Mother Adulter film from about five years ago. No, no, okay,
- 1:32:42we'll pass on this one. It's Ladybird, go to your ring.
- 1:32:46Sorry that, Oh, well, you just did a Kardashian one. He's
- 1:32:53dating Kendle right now. I'm pretty sure. So I was like, she
- 1:32:57is another Kardashian. They're all the Kardashians. I could have filled this entire
- 1:33:02round with just there are too many of them. They simply must be stopped.
- 1:33:06Okay, quick before the buzzer. Well, where do I begin with
- 1:33:10my daughter? I raised her, Well, didn't I? This is because
- 1:33:14she didn't get a good education. Education is still the most important thing in
- 1:33:17the world, next to family, not pie like she'd have you believe.
- 1:33:21Still, she has Rory's best interests at art. Yes, Chris it's not
- 1:33:29barrass No, you can't do that. Yes, true, going to be
- 1:33:36it's missus, Kim and Lane Laane, go to your room. It's it's
- 1:33:41not I'm so sorry. I was looking for Laura Lai. I was just
- 1:33:43looking for politic or something wrong. Yeah, Rory being the obvious. It's
- 1:33:48like a reverse of what Chris did with the carrier. I was. I
- 1:33:55mean, she does care about pileop, but I was like, is this
- 1:33:57who is this reference? If it was coffee, I would have gone right
- 1:34:00away, but had me questioning. I just figured you were trying to trick
- 1:34:06us, and you did. Screw It was a double trick, that special
- 1:34:13double black. The last one's always the tricky one. Please remember that when
- 1:34:17you assign worth to yourselves, whether you are happy that you were or lost,
- 1:34:21this game is the points are decided by me, and it's random.
- 1:34:27Before we get to the final scores, i'd like to thank our players.
- 1:34:30You've all been sarcastic, witty, and adorable, which are the three most
- 1:34:34common words to describe the Gilmore Girls TV show. Accurate Drew, you co
- 1:34:40host the Fantastic Supernatural podcast Carrying Wayward with the lovely Marie Theagaru. Where can

- 1:36:02is bigs point of pride for me? So yeah, she's never needed so
- 1:36:06much yarn because Chris is told, just like Dean, just the barrels of
- 1:36:13yarn for one swater. Fantastic. Also a link to that in the very
- 1:36:17show notes of this episode. Chris Paula, anything you want to promote or
- 1:36:21would you rather people not find you from? From this place? You can
- 1:36:26find me a blue check mark on X Totally kidding. No, I don't
- 1:36:32have anything listen to community gate leaps, as Chris promoted through the episode.
