- 0:00Bill up. This is from mud Vein. We are coming down to Australia
- 0:05into everywhere, so get there, let's get in there. That sounds good,
- 0:11Chad, thanks for joining us today, brother absolutely man, thank you
- 0:16for having me my pleasures. As you say, i'munvainable. Return to Australia
- 0:20in February twenty twenty four for a run of shows, starting in Brisbane on
- 0:24Sorry on February fourteenth, before hitting Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide and finishing in
- 0:28Perth on February the twenty first. So, first of all brother on behalf
- 0:32of all Australian music lovers. Let me start by saying, welcome back.
- 0:35We've missed you. Oh I know it's been almost two decades, so yes,
- 0:42it's about time to chop it all off. Man. You're going to
- 0:47be bringing Cold Chamber as special guest. So I know you guys have been
- 0:51trying a bit overseas together. But what's the appeal of touring with them?
- 0:58Good? Do? I mean way back with Miguel and Mikey, like we
- 1:02go back a long way and you know, but every there's guys that just
- 1:04rat and I mean we just we just did it here this past summer with
- 1:08them and a couple of weeks ago actually we just got home, but we
- 1:14just had a blast of those guys, so it was like kind of a
- 1:15no brainer to bring them down there with us, figure that you guys would
- 1:19enjoy them too. So everybody's just playing really well. They did phenomenal this
- 1:26summer and we just wanted to bring them down with us. So here we
- 1:30go. As we mentioned, man like, it's been a wall since you've
- 1:34been to Australia. So aside from a period of inactivity with the band,
- 1:38what else has changed with MyD vine Seins Slasamy. So yeah, yeah,
- 1:44not much, you know. I mean, we weren't a band for ten
- 1:48years, and we started having the conversations and everybody started be you know,
- 1:53genuinely excited about it again. We surrounded ourselves with some new people that we're
- 1:59working, that we're doing business with, and they're exciting and their fun and
- 2:05really helping us embrace uh you know, mudding and what we've done and uh,
- 2:10you know, we're just so excited to be coming to Australia. You
- 2:14know. We we came back, we had those three comeback festivals and then
- 2:17we did the tour last year with the Zombie. We're just kind of been
- 2:23sitting around and we just did this this most recent tour and uh, you
- 2:28know, we heard mutterings of Australia and I was just so excited about it
- 2:31because I love Australia, a lot of history down there. And then when
- 2:37we heard it was solidified, we were just like, you know, on
- 2:39a conference call and everybody's just so excited and so jazz and it's just so
- 2:45puffed about coming you know, coming back. Man. We all we all
- 2:49absolutely love Australia. We love we love uh as much as just how beautiful
- 2:53the country is. But the people, right, the metal community in Australia
- 2:58is so strong and uh and uh, we're really excited to get back down
- 3:02there and play for you guys to get you know, you guys are very
- 3:07very special to us. And uh, I would say, if you're going
- 3:10to release an album somewhere, you better be willing to go play for them.
- 3:14So we really is out. We've released Tones and Aurelia's we got to
- 3:16go down and play for you. Events is the way you go and we're
- 3:21excited to do it. Man, We're really excited. Well, so what
- 3:24what can fans expect from the twenty twenty four version of Live Then Bro intensity,
- 3:31Man, it was, it's just been. It's been fun. Then
- 3:35we're really uh, we're feeding off each other, We're feeding off the crowd.
- 3:39There's this awesome energy that goes back and forth between us and our crowd,
- 3:45and uh, it just builds and builds and builds and builds through the
- 3:47whole set and just it's it's just amazing. So but yeah, it's intense,
- 3:55it's helpless, it's fornetic, it's crazy, it's angry and angry and
- 4:02almost violent. But on the other ends it's need sad and it's helpless and
- 4:10it's you know, but then there's a lot of good feelings in there too,
- 4:14like that all it runs the gamut of human emotion, you know,
- 4:18and that's always been something that we tried to tap into writing on musics,
- 4:24and it's important to us to bring that to our live performance, to that
- 4:30just level of emotion that is very true and very real and very honest and
- 4:35very vulnerable. I'm sort of touched on this a little bit before Bro,
- 4:40But the band effectively break up in twenty ten. I'm not going to ask
- 4:44why because that's no one's business man. But what changed your mind in twenty
- 4:47twenty one to make you try again? Like what were the main things that
- 4:50made you decide might they needed to be heard again? Yeah, we just
- 4:56wanted I don't even know how it happened. Like we up being like kind
- 5:01of loosely talking or whatever and emailing like you know, one of us or
- 5:06two of us, and then we had a confidence call and we all got
- 5:10on the call and we caught up for probably twenty minutes, and and we
- 5:15just went down the road. You know. It's just like, you know,
- 5:17there was just a lot of like I said, there's just a lot
- 5:19of genuine excitement about coming back to the stand, you know, you know
- 5:25because I was in hell. Yeah for the whole ten years, ten years,
- 5:29we weren't a man. And uh I had a lot of fun doing
- 5:31that, you know, I really did. We actually got to come down
- 5:33there and close these guys and uh, you know, it was a lot
- 5:38of fun doing it. But there was just something that when Vinnie passed,
- 5:44Uh, there was just there was a void, you know in my life.
- 5:49And uh it was hard to lose him, you know when he when
- 5:55he passed away and Uh, I just felt like maybe this would kind of
- 6:01fill that void, and it did. You know what I mean, I
- 6:05think that Benny would be would be proud of me for coming back to this
- 6:10and doing it, and uh, you know, we're just I'm just I'm
- 6:15excited. I'm just excited to uh to be doing this again. It was
- 6:20it was it was important to me back then, and uh, yeah,
- 6:24there was a lot of craziness. Uh it wasn't necessarily us when we when
- 6:29we disbanded and we just kind of let it go. Everybody just kind of
- 6:33opened their hands and just let it go and we all did other things and
- 6:40we just one day it just you know, uh became a parent that you
- 6:46know, we all want to do this again. And I mean, it's
- 6:49it's been really really cool. From the first time we got back together in
- 6:56a rehearsal room and started playing these songs again and was just like, man,
- 7:00this is really cool. It's really really special, and I think a
- 7:04lot of us, you know, I think that we had kind of forgotten
- 7:09about how special it was, and uh, but yeah, we got together
- 7:13and we started playing the music again and it was just like, wow,
- 7:15this is this is really exciting and then to start talking about it, and
- 7:20they're like them to start talking about coming back and stuff, and just seeing
- 7:26the general excitement within everyone, like all of our fans, you know,
- 7:30we're so excited about us coming back, and it's been it's been really cool
- 7:35because I mean, you would expect that people would just want us to you
- 7:42know, we would just be going, hey, come to our city at
- 7:44play. Hey, come to our city a play, Hey, come to
- 7:46our country and play. Hey do that you know, our needs to come
- 7:47and play your catalog. But like people legitimately been asking like is there new
- 7:53music? Are you guys coming out and new music? Blah blah blah blah.
- 7:56There's been a lot of talk from our fan hands asking us about new
- 8:01music, which is really flattering to us, you know, because again,
- 8:07people could just say, just come and play your old songs, you know,
- 8:09but people are saying we want new music, you know, and that's
- 8:13it's really exciting and really really fucking cool, and I think it shows,
- 8:18you know, how special my vein really is to a lot of people,
- 8:22you know. So it's it's it's cool. It's really cool. Dan's right,
- 8:24well said brother. So the first show back mate, like, did
- 8:28you guys sit the stage running or did it sort of take a bit of
- 8:31time to get that on stage chemistry back. I mean, I think our
- 8:37chemistry. There was my first time walking back on stage with this band,
- 8:41which is insane. I had COVID and it was horrible, really even breathe,
- 8:46and I did it. I didn't even know I had it for like
- 8:50three days after it and finally your tested. Yeah, I finally tested and
- 8:54yeah I had it. But uh so, yeah, that was my first
- 8:58uh bad thing back and it was not good and it didn't go over well
- 9:03and it was not received well and people, you know, and finally,
- 9:07after looking my manager going to we will leave the statement at least telling people,
- 9:13and we and we did, and then everybody's like, oh that's why
- 9:16I wasn't great barely breathe. Oh but yeah it was fun, I mean,
- 9:22you know, as fun as it can be, uh, you know,
- 9:26having a respiratory infection. But yeah, exactly, that were great,
- 9:35you know, and they're getting better and better. I thought we did.
- 9:37I thought we played really well with Zombie last year, but we went out
- 9:41and did it this year. Man. It's just it's it was a lot
- 9:43of fun and I think we're playing better than we ever have. So I
- 9:46think Australia is going to see the best my name that they've ever seen for
- 9:50sure. Yeah. Now we haven't seen any live footage. I hear so
- 9:54many photos mate, So you guys like back playing live with the stage make
- 9:58How farmer are you going? Banel still? Oh no, we got full
- 10:05full full makeup. Yeah, I'm fucking crazier than I ever was. It's
- 10:11been a lot. It's been a lot of fun, man. We're really
- 10:15really embrace them what we did back then. Then we're you know, it's
- 10:18a new twist our old thing and it's cool man. It's been a lot
- 10:22of fun, a lot of fun. So go back to the start of
- 10:26My Vein. If you came bro like your form band in nineteen ninety six,
- 10:30so what was the musical climate like back then that gave birth to My
- 10:33Vein? And I'm guessing you didn't, But where did you fit in back
- 10:35then? I don't even know if we sit in at all, you know,
- 10:43So we didn't really kind of get it figured out like we started in
- 10:48ninety six. So that was with a different bass player and I don't even
- 10:52think we really got anything started to figure out before like ninety nine, and
- 10:56then that's when you know, you know, wrote you know, songs like
- 11:01Cradle and you know, like some of the more heavy, esoteric kind of
- 11:07songs that ended up kind of becoming what Muny was. You know, like
- 11:11it was kind of a slow push into figuring out what the hell we were,
- 11:18you know what I mean. And you know, I don't know through
- 11:22our whole career we ever fully figured out who the hell we were, you
- 11:26know what I mean. We were just always trying to push the boundaries.
- 11:31You know, we were trying to push are not necessarily saying just in all
- 11:35of music, but trying to push our personal boundaries. And like I said,
- 11:41you know, our music is very emotional, from helpless to anger and
- 11:46violent and that the whole gamut of emotions in there or whatever. So I
- 11:52think it's been kind of my always been my want to push that even further,
- 12:01like open it up even more, experimenting new things and different different vibes
- 12:07and different emotions and things like that. So I mean, I'm not sure
- 12:15what like when it started or where it ended, you know what I mean,
- 12:18We just like we're just kind of kind of just constantly shape shifty,
- 12:22exploring ourselves. You know that that's what we did the whole time that we
- 12:26were that we were writing recording new music, was just pushing the boundaries.
- 12:31Yeah, you're a very strong part of the new metal scene in its formative
- 12:35years too. Bro So, looking back, are you surprised by how far
- 12:39that genre and that's scene, the music I guess has come and evolved since
- 12:43then. Dude, it's I mean, I literally look back at that and
- 12:48I need and I'm not trying to like talk shit anybody or whatever, but
- 12:56like a lot of a lot of new music, it's a lot alike,
- 13:01you know what I mean, Like there's a like, you know, just
- 13:05like one thing kind of runs into the other. There's always like some band
- 13:07that's kind of special or whatever. They were kind of standouts, and they
- 13:11might have like ten bands that are kind of on their nuts seasons they're gonna
- 13:15want to be there or whatever, but kind of creates this game. But
- 13:18I like, looking back on that time, you have to think about it.
- 13:22It's like you had slip Knot, you had Papa Roachs, you had
- 13:28Disturbed, you have Mumpin, you had Manson fuck. You know, I
- 13:35mean, like a lot of bands, like a lot of bands, and
- 13:41none of them sounded like metal, like you know, slipped on the Slipknot
- 13:48and Manson was Manson and fucking Papa Roaches popa Roach and Disturbed was Disturbed,
- 13:52but Mummy was Mummy, and you know what I mean, like you you
- 13:56start, and I mean I can name many many more, you know what
- 13:58I mean, and like, uh, you know, this is crazy,
- 14:03Like that's what that's what made that That's what that made that style of music
- 14:11so special is because everybody was doing their thing, you know what I mean,
- 14:16And and everybody that was doing their own thing from album to album to
- 14:20album was evolving in and of themselves, which kind of made the whole genre
- 14:26of new metal glow. You know. So like each fan was pushing I
- 14:35think, kind of doing what we were doing, kind of pushing our limits.
- 14:37They were pushing their limits, and the whole thing just kind of naturally
- 14:45grows, and as it grows, it just becomes more special. But yeah,
- 14:52looking back on it, it was just like we all were kind of
- 14:54doing our own thing, you know, we were a little more progressive u
- 15:00their mental you know, and uh something I was fucking flipni you know,
- 15:03it's having a fucking ship, you know, and you know, all the
- 15:09all those bandamension. I mean, everybody just did their own thing. It
- 15:13was really really cool. It was a cool It was a cool thing to
- 15:16be a part of it. It was happening, and it's a cool thing
- 15:18to be a part of now that it's really like a lot of people are
- 15:20recognizing it as being like a big movement in music, which I always thought
- 15:26it was. I always felt like it was. You know, back when
- 15:30everybody was calling it new metal, we all kind of scoffed at that,
- 15:33like the metal you know that Uh you know, you know, really you're
- 15:37a metal dude. You don't want to be lumped into something. Yeah,
- 15:39sure, you know you feel like that. Yeah, you feel like that
- 15:43you're bigger, letting whatever the fuck they're saying it is, you know.
- 15:48And uh and now looking back on it, I'm proud to have been a
- 15:50part of it, you know what I mean. Uh, it's it's it's
- 15:52cool that it's getting it getting the love it's getting now, you know,
- 15:56because it's really really special time in music now. It really was damn straighter
- 16:00was brother. Now. We touched on this a little bit before my but
- 16:03you released your last self titled album back in two thousand and nine, So
- 16:07have you had the talks or are the plans to record new music or are
- 16:11you sort of fight using more on shore infanyl. Yeah, I mean that's
- 16:15just kind of our thing right now. We've we started putting some new stuff
- 16:18together a little bit, and like people that have heard the kind of demo
- 16:22e stuff are really excited about it. I think a lot of like only
- 16:27the people that are closest to us have heard anything. And it's, like
- 16:30I said, again, it's really rough as demos, but you can tell
- 16:36it's special, you know, And I think that you just have to we
- 16:40have to make sure it's muhing, you know what I mean. We have
- 16:42to make sure that it's what we want, and you know, so we'll
- 16:49just have to see, you know. We were working on working on working
- 16:52on it a little bit, you know, here and there. We all
- 16:56live states away from each other. Nobody lives even close to each other,
- 17:00so it makes it a little bit difficult. But we were able to get
- 17:03some stuff demoed up or whatever. But with us being so far apart,
- 17:11it's a little slow going. And then we just kind of just hit a
- 17:14wall, like, we're like, okay, we got to get back into
- 17:15touring, you know, so we put everything together and we went back out
- 17:19this summer. You know this, we'll see what this hall brings. Like.
- 17:25I'm sure you know. We we all just got home, so we're
- 17:29still kind to be compressing. I mean, I'm feeling pretty good now,
- 17:33you know. So you know, we just put everything on hold and we
- 17:37just wanted to focus on touring. But now that we're done with it,
- 17:41you know, as every event starts raising their head out of a fand hopefully,
- 17:48hopefully we can get together and do something. I don't know, maybe
- 17:49we'll have some new by the time we come down and see you. We'll
- 17:52see hi. Brother. Let's start about three Spotify playlist space on artists facing
- 18:00using songs from you. So it could be from mud Vader, could be
- 18:03from Hell You just songs from bands that you've been in. Can you give
- 18:07us a song for a playlist to get the party started, one for a
- 18:10playlist to save your marriage, and one for a playlist that could potentially end
- 18:12your marriage. Well, save your marriage, I don't even know. Wow,
- 18:23Well so cool, I don't know, and your marriage probably do like
- 18:27nothing again or something like that. The people do the level of the cool,
- 18:32but people also seem to like the psycho side of nothing again, so
- 18:36go with those. I wanted to get the party started. I wanted to
- 18:41get the party started, Diggins. That's exactly what I would have said,
- 18:45brother, beautiful, thanks very much for your times, like absolutely, thank
- 18:51you very much. No, I can't wait to see him made. The
- 18:53excitement is massive, id bro, So thanks for thanks remembering a sav brother,
- 18:57and we'll catch up with you next year. I can't wait to get
- 19:02down there. Thank you so much. Now, WI for my friend you
- 19:03say hey brother, you too, Bunny. Thank you
