- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, it's your person, Michelle. I guess back again, like
- 0:06Speaker 1: you never really wanted, but it's too late now because
- 0:11Speaker 1: it's happening. I guess yeah. I don't know what I'm saying,
- 0:16Speaker 1: but obviously we are going to talk about banana fish
- 0:19Speaker 1: because that's what we're doing all the time now. And
- 0:24Speaker 1: that's good, right. It's not totally upsetting and horrible for you,
- 0:28Speaker 1: and for some reason you're sticking it out because you
- 0:30Speaker 1: think it's gonna get better. It's not gonna get better
- 0:32Speaker 1: if you don't like it by now. It's not like
- 0:34Speaker 1: all of a sudden you're gonna be like, wow, this
- 0:36Speaker 1: is great. No, this is what it is. So I'm
- 0:40Speaker 1: not trying to deter you from watching it. I obviously
- 0:44Speaker 1: like it, as you have noticed. I'm sure so quick update.
- 0:50Speaker 1: I have now seen three episodes of Donda Done and
- 0:54Speaker 1: it is great still. It is so so good. And
- 0:59Speaker 1: I've all so heard about the fourth episode of Uzumaki
- 1:03Speaker 1: and apparently that was really bad. But you know, what
- 1:07Speaker 1: are you gonna do? This was never gonna work out.
- 1:10Speaker 1: And of course it's important that I mentioned again that
- 1:14Speaker 1: we are in the third season of Ree zero two,
- 1:16Speaker 1: in case you forgot that that is happening. It's been
- 1:19Speaker 1: it's been pretty good so far. So yeah, but who
- 1:22Speaker 1: the fuck cares about all that shit. Let's talk about
- 1:24Speaker 1: banana Fish episode thirteen. So Episode thirteen is called The
- 1:29Speaker 1: Snows of Kilimanjaro. Now, that title is from a short
- 1:33Speaker 1: story by Ernest Hemingway, and I don't have to say
- 1:35Speaker 1: anything else about it because we're gonna talk about it
- 1:38Speaker 1: in the episode. It's one of the few times the
- 1:40Speaker 1: title is absolutely relevant as it was meant by the
- 1:44Speaker 1: original author. So yeah, okay that And if you remember,
- 1:50Speaker 1: I think last week I talked a little bit about
- 1:52Speaker 1: how in the manga we got some glimpses of Ash
- 1:57Speaker 1: being into like reading and stuff like that in the beginning,
- 2:00Speaker 1: even though we didn't get that in the anime, and
- 2:02Speaker 1: I specifically said that he was into Ernest Hemingway. Well,
- 2:06Speaker 1: so maybe this relates directly to him. So let's let's
- 2:10Speaker 1: find out. I guess. So, if you remember last time,
- 2:14Speaker 1: we ended the episode with Ash walking into the streets
- 2:18Speaker 1: after getting a phone call that I assume means he
- 2:21Speaker 1: has to go fight Arthur. Now, so we start this episode,
- 2:26Speaker 1: I guess a little bit before that in the apartment
- 2:30Speaker 1: Hallway with Ash Bones and Kanan and KNG says, what
- 2:35Speaker 1: did Kin say? Three am tonight? East Broadway station? The
- 2:39Speaker 1: F line is under construction, so what doll we shut down?
- 2:42Speaker 1: It's like a blind spot in the city. Arthur won't
- 2:44Speaker 1: be able to sneak his guys in as long as
- 2:46Speaker 1: they guard the entrances. I assume he means black Sabbath.
- 2:50Speaker 1: And also, before we go any further, there is an
- 2:52Speaker 1: East Broadway station. It's in the Lower East Side, and
- 2:56Speaker 1: the F line is the only train that runs through there.
- 3:00Speaker 1: So if the F Line was being worked on, the
- 3:03Speaker 1: station would technically be closed. So this is pretty cool.
- 3:06Speaker 1: That sounds about accurate. In the original, it was just
- 3:09Speaker 1: that it was late enough that the subway was closed.
- 3:13Speaker 1: But that makes like zero sense because the subway runs
- 3:16Speaker 1: all night long in New York. So I'm glad they
- 3:18Speaker 1: fixed this. This is one of the few times that
- 3:20Speaker 1: I was like, oh, this was a good update. Anyway,
- 3:23Speaker 1: Continuing right along, Bone says, but you still never know
- 3:27Speaker 1: what dirty tricks he might play, and Con is like, yeah,
- 3:30Speaker 1: he's got the mafia on his side. Ash says, I
- 3:33Speaker 1: know Alex knows what to do if something happens you
- 3:37Speaker 1: two take Agy to the airport. They look really surprised
- 3:40Speaker 1: by this, and Ash says, don't tell him anything now
- 3:45Speaker 1: they just look worried. Bones, who looks really sad, says,
- 3:50Speaker 1: but you said he was one of us. Now, Kanan
- 3:53Speaker 1: sighs and he's like, he reminds me of Skip. I've
- 3:56Speaker 1: become attached to him. Aw kN is so so swet.
- 4:00Speaker 1: We Bones is like, if we drag him to the
- 4:02Speaker 1: airport without telling him anything, he'll think he's been betrayed
- 4:05Speaker 1: and it'll hate you for it. Ash absolutely knows this,
- 4:10Speaker 1: and he looks pretty upset. He says, that's how it
- 4:14Speaker 1: should be. I'm counting on you. Fuck. We flash quickly
- 4:21Speaker 1: to Agy's sleeping and then to Ash walking down the street,
- 4:24Speaker 1: so we're back where we left off at the end
- 4:26Speaker 1: of the last episode. We see Arthur now sitting in
- 4:29Speaker 1: I guess his apartments. It's just like a room, basically
- 4:33Speaker 1: on his bed. He is thinking of a knife fight
- 4:37Speaker 1: I guess that he had with Ash in a parking garage,
- 4:39Speaker 1: which we see and they're like exchanging like slashes and stuff,
- 4:44Speaker 1: and Ash trips Arthur and then he holds out his
- 4:49Speaker 1: knife towards him and he says, want more. Arthur drops
- 4:53Speaker 1: his knife and he falls to his knees and ashe says,
- 4:57Speaker 1: this is my territory now. As agreed, he starts to
- 5:00Speaker 1: walk away, and then he's like, leave or submit to me.
- 5:03Speaker 1: You have til tomorrow to decide. Arthur looks pissed, but
- 5:07Speaker 1: he like doesn't move and Ash continues to walk away.
- 5:12Speaker 1: And Wookie, who is dead remember but wasn't in the past,
- 5:17Speaker 1: he runs over to Arthur and he's like, Arthur, are
- 5:18Speaker 1: you okay. Arthur like grits his teeth and he looks
- 5:22Speaker 1: over at the gun that's in Wookie's pants, and he
- 5:24Speaker 1: grabs it and he pushes him away and he's like
- 5:27Speaker 1: die and he shoots at Ash. Ash turns back and
- 5:31Speaker 1: manages to dodge because he's Ash, and he like runs
- 5:36Speaker 1: at Arthur and kicks the gun out of his hand
- 5:39Speaker 1: and grabs him by the arm and flips him onto
- 5:41Speaker 1: the ground and he is still holding his arm and
- 5:45Speaker 1: he's like, you coward, and he slashes at his hand
- 5:48Speaker 1: with his knife. We go back to now and Arthur
- 5:52Speaker 1: is staring at his scarred up hand and his hand
- 5:56Speaker 1: like twitches a bit and then he exhales. I think
- 6:00Speaker 1: he's ready to end this, and then we know the
- 6:03Speaker 1: opening for the last time before it switches damn it,
- 6:08Speaker 1: so we can stop there just for a second to say, hey,
- 6:10Speaker 1: that's what happened to Arthur's hand. Ash slashed it after
- 6:15Speaker 1: he tried to kill Ash behind his back when the
- 6:19Speaker 1: dual thing was already over. He's a piece of shit.
- 6:21Speaker 1: He deserved to have his hand slashed. Back from the opening,
- 6:25Speaker 1: we're now outside East Broadway station and Cain is there
- 6:30Speaker 1: with like two of his guys, and we hear Arthur
- 6:33Speaker 1: say hey, Kane. They look over and Arthur is walking
- 6:37Speaker 1: towards them and he's like, what a great night, perfect
- 6:40Speaker 1: for Halloween. Yay. And if you're listening on the correct day,
- 6:45Speaker 1: the day that this released, it is also Halloween. Happy Halloween, guys,
- 6:51Speaker 1: and yay. I'm so happy that I could make this workout. Anyway,
- 6:55Speaker 1: it is a really nice, great Halloween night. The moon
- 6:59Speaker 1: is full and like the sky is clear. It's exactly
- 7:03Speaker 1: how I'd want Halloween night to be. Maybe it's like
- 7:06Speaker 1: that today. I have no idea because I'm recording this
- 7:10Speaker 1: like ten days before Halloween, so whatever. Also, besides it
- 7:16Speaker 1: being just a beautiful night, there's a whole lot of
- 7:19Speaker 1: graffiti on the wall by the station and a fuck
- 7:26Speaker 1: So it looks really good unless you really look at it.
- 7:30Speaker 1: It's like in the very graffitiest graffiti style, like lots
- 7:34Speaker 1: of bubble letters and like scrawling letters and you can't
- 7:36Speaker 1: really read them. But if you look closer, you will
- 7:39Speaker 1: realize that you absolutely can't read them because they don't
- 7:42Speaker 1: say anything, and I'm not even sure they're using like letters,
- 7:46Speaker 1: you know, I don't know what they are. It looks
- 7:49Speaker 1: like if this wasn't done in twenty eighteen and this
- 7:52Speaker 1: was done like two weeks ago, I would be like,
- 7:56Speaker 1: did they just like use AI for this, because you
- 7:59Speaker 1: know how AI does and understand how to like generate
- 8:02Speaker 1: language in pictures. That's what it looks like to me.
- 8:05Speaker 1: So it's kind of interesting because there's a lot of
- 8:09Speaker 1: graffiti on everything in the manga too, But the graffiti
- 8:13Speaker 1: in the manga looks like the way I would make
- 8:15Speaker 1: graffiti if I was, you know, put in graffiti on things,
- 8:19Speaker 1: which is just words because I'm not super skilled in
- 8:23Speaker 1: using like spray paint, so I would just right like
- 8:27Speaker 1: I am sad or something. So you lose the style
- 8:32Speaker 1: part in the manga, but it's all real words in English,
- 8:36Speaker 1: which is cool. And I give Akimi Yoshda like so
- 8:41Speaker 1: much credit because I don't know if I said this
- 8:44Speaker 1: when we were doing Windbreaker, because there's tons of graffiti
- 8:48Speaker 1: in that, like school in Windbreaker in Bofuran or whatever,
- 8:52Speaker 1: and it's all nice. But the thing that really bothered
- 8:56Speaker 1: me about it is there were like no dicks. Like
- 8:59Speaker 1: I don't know you, but I'm used to seeing lots
- 9:01Speaker 1: of penises when people make graffiti. I don't know why,
- 9:06Speaker 1: but that's just the thing. So every time I see
- 9:08Speaker 1: like a lot of graffiti, like a really graffitied up place,
- 9:11Speaker 1: and there's just no penises, I'm like what. So anyway,
- 9:16Speaker 1: Akima Yoshta, in one of the one shots that follow
- 9:20Speaker 1: up Banana Fish, there was like graffiti and there was
- 9:23Speaker 1: this gigantic dick on the ball and I was just like,
- 9:27Speaker 1: oh my god, she understands. So I don't know why
- 9:31Speaker 1: I told you that, but let's just get back to
- 9:33Speaker 1: it so I can stop making my soul feel embarrassed. Anyway,
- 9:37Speaker 1: Arthur continues, too bad, we won't be able to enjoy
- 9:40Speaker 1: it underground, and Kane's like, well, we got to stay
- 9:43Speaker 1: out of side of the cops. I have men standing
- 9:46Speaker 1: watch at the neighboring stations, one on one. No dirty tricks,
- 9:49Speaker 1: got it. Arthur's like, yeah, yeah, I know. So where
- 9:53Speaker 1: is he? He chickened out. Kane's like, you just worry
- 9:56Speaker 1: about yourself, and then we see Ash. He's walking over
- 9:59Speaker 1: right now, and he looks pretty pissed off. Arthur also
- 10:03Speaker 1: looks pretty pissed off, and then we cut to them
- 10:06Speaker 1: walking down the stairs into the subway station and Sing
- 10:10Speaker 1: is there, and Kane's like, who are you? And Ash
- 10:15Speaker 1: says the Chinese boss Sing Su Ling sings like you
- 10:18Speaker 1: remembered me. I'm flattered. Kine says, how'd you know it
- 10:22Speaker 1: was here? I had my men comb this place free
- 10:25Speaker 1: of rats. Sings like, you underestimate our espionage, and he's
- 10:29Speaker 1: kind of smirking. I don't get why it's so hard
- 10:32Speaker 1: for you. It's really easy for us. Kin looks maybe
- 10:35Speaker 1: kind of surprised, and Sing continues, I have the right
- 10:38Speaker 1: to bear witness to this fight. They're not the only
- 10:41Speaker 1: ones with business downtown, so I'm not gonna be kept
- 10:43Speaker 1: out of this. Kine's like, I get it. He turns
- 10:47Speaker 1: to Arthur and Ash and says, so how about it.
- 10:50Speaker 1: Ash is like, have it your way. Arthur's like, I say, no,
- 10:53Speaker 1: it's none of their business. I don't want some outsiders
- 10:56Speaker 1: snooping around. Sings like, oh, dear me, create boss, like
- 11:01Speaker 1: you leading the biggest gang down town and you're scared
- 11:04Speaker 1: of a little rat like me? Or is there a
- 11:07Speaker 1: reason you don't want me here? Oh maybe there is.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Kine's like, he's right, what are you so worked up about?
- 11:15Speaker 1: Arthur's like, fine, it's not like I have anything to
- 11:17Speaker 1: hide anyway, Kin says, then it's settled. Give me your guns.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Ash hands over his gun and Arthur's like, ain't got
- 11:25Speaker 1: one and he holds up his hands. Can't pull anything
- 11:27Speaker 1: with a trigger, obviously, he means, because his hand has
- 11:32Speaker 1: been injured by Ash. So I guess this's worse than
- 11:34Speaker 1: I originally thought. But he has two hands, Guys like,
- 11:39Speaker 1: you don't need two trigger fingers, you only need one.
- 11:43Speaker 1: So like, maybe he should just learn to shoot left handed.
- 11:48Speaker 1: There's nothing wrong with your left hand. Fucking stop blaming
- 11:52Speaker 1: everything on this one incident, Jesus. Anyway, they back away
- 11:57Speaker 1: from each other and it kind of looks like they're
- 12:00Speaker 1: getting ready to do like a gunfight duel, Like, why
- 12:03Speaker 1: are they backing away from each other? I don't know.
- 12:05Speaker 1: Kine's like, only knives are allowed. Arthur throws off his
- 12:09Speaker 1: jacket and he turns around to face them, and he
- 12:11Speaker 1: looks like really really confident for some reason. Kaine's like,
- 12:16Speaker 1: no dirty tricks. That goes for both of you. Ash
- 12:19Speaker 1: also throws off his jacket and he takes out a knife,
- 12:22Speaker 1: which is not a very big knife, and Kine continues,
- 12:25Speaker 1: don't do anything funny, or you'll have to face us.
- 12:29Speaker 1: Now they're in position, staring each other down. Arthur twirls
- 12:33Speaker 1: his butterfly knife like a lot, like he's pretty impressed
- 12:37Speaker 1: with himself, and he says, you're gonna be throwing up
- 12:39Speaker 1: blood this time, okay, and Ash is like, I can't
- 12:44Speaker 1: hear you. Arthur chuckles, and then he runs at him
- 12:48Speaker 1: and he swipes Ash dodges, but he looks kind of concerned,
- 12:53Speaker 1: and we realize that he's looking at Arthur's hand, which
- 12:56Speaker 1: had a knife in it but doesn't anymore. So he's
- 12:58Speaker 1: like trying to put this together, and then we see
- 13:01Speaker 1: that Arthur has thrown I guess the knife to his
- 13:03Speaker 1: other hand, and Sing is like left Arthur lunges at
- 13:06Speaker 1: Ash again, and Kane just sing is like are you
- 13:09Speaker 1: Ashes Fan and Sing like blushes and he's like no.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Arthur lunges again, and Ash is evading, but he's clearly
- 13:18Speaker 1: on the defense, which is interesting. While this is happening,
- 13:21Speaker 1: Ash kind of like stops and gasps and looks over
- 13:24Speaker 1: at the tracks. Arthur lunges again, and Ash is still
- 13:27Speaker 1: evading and ashes like train. Kin and Sing look confused,
- 13:31Speaker 1: but remember Ash is super hyper vigilant, so he probably rights.
- 13:36Speaker 1: Ash dodges Arthur's blade again and he's like, a train's coming.
- 13:40Speaker 1: Kin is like, that's impossible. This line shut down till morning.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Sing looks over at the tracks and we see lights
- 13:47Speaker 1: way back in the tunnel coming forward and sings like
- 13:50Speaker 1: he's right, it's coming. Arthur slashes at Ash again, and
- 13:55Speaker 1: Ash stops him with his knife like he blocks the
- 13:58Speaker 1: knife with the blade of his knife knife, which again
- 14:01Speaker 1: his knife is like not that cool, it's like pretty small.
- 14:04Speaker 1: So their blades are like locked and Ash is like
- 14:06Speaker 1: you bastard, and Arthur says, time for you to die.
- 14:11Speaker 1: Fuck okay, pretty sure Dino wanted him alive, but okay,
- 14:15Speaker 1: Ash kicks him in the stomach and knocks him away,
- 14:18Speaker 1: and at this point the train is arriving and Arthur
- 14:20Speaker 1: just kind of runs off. Okay, fuck. The train begins
- 14:26Speaker 1: to pull up to the station and there's people in
- 14:28Speaker 1: it and they are fucking shooting. Ash is running to
- 14:32Speaker 1: get out of range, and he dives behind one of
- 14:35Speaker 1: the columns. By the way, this really does look like
- 14:37Speaker 1: East Broadway station pretty much, so good job. Arthur's like
- 14:41Speaker 1: kill him. Kin is like, you've done it now, and
- 14:45Speaker 1: we see Cain's gang start to come down the steps
- 14:47Speaker 1: because obviously they heard the gunfire, and one of the
- 14:50Speaker 1: guys is like boss and Kane is like stand back,
- 14:52Speaker 1: but it's too late and they're shot. Cain flinches and
- 14:55Speaker 1: he's like, fuck you, Arthur, and Sing is like Cain.
- 14:59Speaker 1: Cain looks over it. Sing who is behind a column
- 15:01Speaker 1: like a little ways away. I guess he ran for
- 15:03Speaker 1: Coverer in a different area, and he says, give me
- 15:07Speaker 1: Ash his gun, and Kane's like, take it, boy, and
- 15:11Speaker 1: he slides the gun across the ground. Sing runs to
- 15:15Speaker 1: catch up with it and he's like, don't call me boy,
- 15:17Speaker 1: and he grabs the gun. The train has stopped now
- 15:21Speaker 1: and a bunch of guys get off. Ash is still
- 15:24Speaker 1: behind that column, and Arthur's like, no need to be afraid,
- 15:28Speaker 1: he's unarmed. At this point, they start to charge at
- 15:32Speaker 1: him and Sing is like, Ash, take this, and he
- 15:35Speaker 1: tosses the gun. Ash catches it yay, and Arthur's like,
- 15:39Speaker 1: oh shit, how did you think this was gonna go?
- 15:42Speaker 1: So Ash emerges from behind the column and he shoots
- 15:45Speaker 1: these like three guys down, like and seconds, and Arthur's like,
- 15:49Speaker 1: damn it, stay calm, he's alone. Ash shoots two more guys,
- 15:53Speaker 1: and while this is happening, Kane approaches a dude with
- 15:56Speaker 1: a gun from behind and like chokes him out, and
- 15:59Speaker 1: Kane is like, too bad, you're wrong ah, And then
- 16:03Speaker 1: like all of a sudden, singing whistles and so many
- 16:07Speaker 1: members of the Chinese gang emerge from like hiding places
- 16:11Speaker 1: I guess, like in trash cans and like on the tracks.
- 16:16Speaker 1: I didn't really understand that maybe they were on the
- 16:18Speaker 1: other side of the tracks or something, and maybe in
- 16:22Speaker 1: the ceiling. I don't know what's going on, guys, but
- 16:25Speaker 1: there's a lot of them, thank god. And I guess
- 16:27Speaker 1: they didn't get shot in all of the gunfighting. So
- 16:31Speaker 1: that's good. Anyway, the Chinese gang starts taking out Arthur's guys,
- 16:36Speaker 1: and Arthur's like, shit, we're pulling out, and he runs
- 16:39Speaker 1: to the train. Arthur's guys start backing up into the
- 16:42Speaker 1: train while they're shooting. Ash shoots a couple more down
- 16:46Speaker 1: while this is all happening, and he fucking dives into
- 16:48Speaker 1: the train right as the doors close. Great. Inside the train,
- 16:54Speaker 1: it's got kind of like a green overtone to everything,
- 16:58Speaker 1: which is really cool and very much in stark contrast
- 17:02Speaker 1: to the blue color that we have in East Broadway Station.
- 17:05Speaker 1: I really like this. I really like the lighting in
- 17:07Speaker 1: the train a lot. The train starts to pull away,
- 17:13Speaker 1: Sing looks on like just dumbfounded, and Kane is like,
- 17:16Speaker 1: how the hell did he get that train? Yeah? I
- 17:19Speaker 1: don't know, man, so how about it? Sings like you
- 17:24Speaker 1: already know my answer. Kin kind of goes like hmmm,
- 17:27Speaker 1: And then to his guys he says, we're going after Arthur.
- 17:30Speaker 1: We're gonna give him what he deserves, and his gang
- 17:33Speaker 1: is like yeah. And then Sing to his guys is
- 17:35Speaker 1: like to Coney Island, and the Chinese gang is like,
- 17:38Speaker 1: all right now, this is pretty cool. Ash apparently has
- 17:43Speaker 1: friends awesome. Anyway, we cut back to Ash, who is
- 17:48Speaker 1: on the green lit graffiti train, the graffiti that like
- 17:53Speaker 1: doesn't mean anything, and he moves into the next car,
- 17:57Speaker 1: walking really cautiously, and some dude who's in the next car,
- 18:02Speaker 1: like at the front of the car, looks up and
- 18:04Speaker 1: sees that it's him. I think it's okay that he
- 18:07Speaker 1: didn't notice immediately the dude, because trains are loud. But anyway,
- 18:11Speaker 1: the guy tries to I don't know, but he's shot
- 18:14Speaker 1: in the head before he can do anything, and the
- 18:16Speaker 1: two other guys that he was with like take off
- 18:18Speaker 1: running like scared. We cut to Arthur, who is just
- 18:22Speaker 1: standing and like tapping on a pole. And I don't
- 18:27Speaker 1: know if I've said this, I haven't said this yet,
- 18:28Speaker 1: but Arthur is wearing like no sleeves, and so is Ash.
- 18:32Speaker 1: But this is the first time that I've seen that
- 18:34Speaker 1: Arthur has a tattoo on his like shoulder, and it's
- 18:39Speaker 1: like red and black and like super dumb and tribal,
- 18:44Speaker 1: so like, it's not cool, Arthur, You're not cool. Anyway,
- 18:48Speaker 1: He's standing there and hears someone say Arthur, and those
- 18:51Speaker 1: two guys run up, and the first guy's like Ashes
- 18:54Speaker 1: on the train and Arthur's like, what did you say?
- 18:58Speaker 1: And the second guy, who is like paying from running
- 19:00Speaker 1: all that way, it's like, what do we do, boss?
- 19:03Speaker 1: Arthur says, get a grip. This is our chance. He's alone,
- 19:07Speaker 1: right where is he? The first guy says, around the
- 19:10Speaker 1: sixth car. Arthur smiles, but he also looks kind of worried,
- 19:15Speaker 1: and he says, good, we'll get him from both sides.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Then back to Ash, who is just kind of kneeling
- 19:21Speaker 1: in one of the cars, up against the side wall,
- 19:25Speaker 1: kind of preparing, maybe trying to stay out of eyeshot
- 19:30Speaker 1: of these people. But it's kind of hard in a
- 19:33Speaker 1: subway car to do that, so I wasn't really sure
- 19:35Speaker 1: how this was working. But he stands up and a
- 19:38Speaker 1: guy from the next car sees him and he's like,
- 19:40Speaker 1: there he is. Ash runs as they shoot, and then
- 19:45Speaker 1: we cut to Ag on the couch and he wakes
- 19:50Speaker 1: up and he says Ash. He goes to look around
- 19:54Speaker 1: the apartment for him, and he like checks the bathroom
- 19:57Speaker 1: and he's like, Ash, where are you? Which I don't
- 20:00Speaker 1: think he's in that dark bathroom age, so I'm not
- 20:02Speaker 1: sure what you're doing. We get a shot of the
- 20:05Speaker 1: clock in the apartment, and it's an analog clock, but
- 20:08Speaker 1: it looks like it's around three fifty seven am, So
- 20:11Speaker 1: it's been about almost an hour since this all started,
- 20:14Speaker 1: I guess, or at least since they were supposed to meet.
- 20:19Speaker 1: And AG's like, what could he be doing at this hour?
- 20:24Speaker 1: He opens the door with his jacket on, so he's
- 20:27Speaker 1: obviously going out to find him, and Bones and Kong
- 20:30Speaker 1: are standing in the hallway and Kng is like, where
- 20:33Speaker 1: are you going? Ag says, Ash is gone? Do you
- 20:37Speaker 1: know where he is? They don't say anything, and AG's like,
- 20:42Speaker 1: you're hiding something. Bones is like, it's good that you're
- 20:46Speaker 1: already awake. Pack up. We're taking you to the airport.
- 20:49Speaker 1: AG looks surprised and sad, and he says airport. Did
- 20:56Speaker 1: Ash tell you to Bone sighs, and he's like this
- 21:01Speaker 1: is hard on us too, okay, huhuh, But the boss
- 21:05Speaker 1: can't do his job when you're around. Ag gasps fuck,
- 21:10Speaker 1: and Bones continues, we need you to understand. Oh my god.
- 21:15Speaker 1: AG's like, what time is it? And Bones seems confused,
- 21:19Speaker 1: and Ag continues the flight. Bone says eight ten. I think.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Ag turns away kind of like back towards the apartment,
- 21:26Speaker 1: and he says, can I have some time alone? I
- 21:30Speaker 1: won't run away or anything. He looks so hurt. Bones
- 21:35Speaker 1: and Kang also look pretty hurt to see him like that,
- 21:39Speaker 1: and Bones is like, yeah, sure of course. We cut
- 21:43Speaker 1: back to Ash, who is kind of hiding in a
- 21:45Speaker 1: train car, and this whole section is just Ag thinking
- 21:51Speaker 1: and us basically seeing what's happening with Ash. So I'm
- 21:54Speaker 1: going to try to read it that way. I don't
- 21:56Speaker 1: know if it's gonna work. There are a couple of
- 21:58Speaker 1: shots of Ag just like staring out the window to
- 22:00Speaker 1: but assume most of it's just Ash with AG thinking
- 22:04Speaker 1: on top of it. It's actually pretty cool, and we've
- 22:06Speaker 1: got some like really sad music during this. It's like
- 22:10Speaker 1: kind of a quiet orchestra epiece called Oslon, and it's
- 22:15Speaker 1: just sad. It's so weird juxtaposed with him like fighting.
- 22:20Speaker 1: But this series does that a lot, and I haven't
- 22:22Speaker 1: pointed it out every time, but there's a lot of
- 22:24Speaker 1: like really sad music when like there's action scenes, like
- 22:27Speaker 1: sad slow music, not all the time, but enough that
- 22:30Speaker 1: it like hurts, man, it hurts. So let's see if
- 22:36Speaker 1: I can do this EG closes the door and he thinks,
- 22:41Speaker 1: we live in different worlds. We cut to Ash, who
- 22:44Speaker 1: is like hiding in one of the train cars. AG thinks,
- 22:48Speaker 1: that's what you always say. Ash looks behind him and
- 22:53Speaker 1: he raises his gun as the door to the train
- 22:55Speaker 1: car behind him opens. AG thinks, but is that really so?
- 23:03Speaker 1: Guys from the car in front and behind Ash's train
- 23:07Speaker 1: car start to rush towards him. AG continues, why must
- 23:12Speaker 1: we part because we live in different worlds. Ash dives
- 23:17Speaker 1: to the ground and he aims his gun and shoots
- 23:19Speaker 1: out the lights. AG thinks, do you really believe that
- 23:25Speaker 1: it's dark in the train car now? AG continues, If
- 23:30Speaker 1: you've decided that it's for the best, then I'll go
- 23:32Speaker 1: with your decision. No, I'll go back to Japan. Ash
- 23:37Speaker 1: shoots a guy in the head, still able to kind
- 23:41Speaker 1: of deal with things in the dark, unlike the rest
- 23:43Speaker 1: of the gang people who are coming after him, because
- 23:46Speaker 1: I don't know, he's like a cat or something. AG
- 23:49Speaker 1: continues and never again. Ash shoots another two guys. Will
- 23:54Speaker 1: I come back? Oh? Ag exits the apartments a guy
- 24:00Speaker 1: He runs screaming to the next train car, and there's
- 24:02Speaker 1: two other guys there, and one of the guys is like,
- 24:04Speaker 1: what happened and the guy who ran in is like,
- 24:07Speaker 1: he shot out the lights. He's shooting out the lights.
- 24:11Speaker 1: Before anybody else can say anything, one of the guys
- 24:14Speaker 1: gets shot in the head and the other two run
- 24:17Speaker 1: for it, and at this point they run to the
- 24:19Speaker 1: car that Arthur is in, which I guess is way
- 24:21Speaker 1: at the front, and Arthur's like, what is it. The
- 24:24Speaker 1: guy who was there when he shut out the lights
- 24:27Speaker 1: is like freaking out and he's like, it's no use, boss,
- 24:29Speaker 1: he got them all. Arthur looks freaked out now too,
- 24:33Speaker 1: and the guy says he's the devil. I think this
- 24:36Speaker 1: is the fourth time in the last maybe four episodes
- 24:40Speaker 1: that someone has called Ash the devil. I think it's
- 24:42Speaker 1: actually more in the manga by now, But that's just awesome. Yeah,
- 24:47Speaker 1: Arthur collects himself and he grabs the dude by the
- 24:51Speaker 1: hoodie and he pulls him in close and he's like,
- 24:53Speaker 1: shut it with the brainless talk. He's just a human.
- 24:56Speaker 1: He tosses the dude aside and he's like, he's just
- 24:59Speaker 1: another punk. Don't glorify him. He like hits one of
- 25:03Speaker 1: the other guys down because he's so pissed off. I
- 25:05Speaker 1: guess that's mean, and he is like panting at this point,
- 25:09Speaker 1: and he finally manages to calm down, and he says,
- 25:13Speaker 1: the sun's about to come up. The train will be
- 25:15Speaker 1: going above ground soon. This is an elevated line, so
- 25:18Speaker 1: it's I guess it starts underground and then by the
- 25:21Speaker 1: time it gets to its destination it is above ground.
- 25:26Speaker 1: He continues. When it does, you'll breathe your last breath. Ash. Fuck.
- 25:32Speaker 1: We go back to Age, who we see opening the
- 25:35Speaker 1: apartment door to Bones and Kong, who are still standing
- 25:38Speaker 1: in the hallway, and he walks out. He looks fucking destroyed,
- 25:43Speaker 1: and Kong says, where's your stuff? And AG's like, I
- 25:48Speaker 1: don't have anything. So I didn't catch this until just
- 25:53Speaker 1: now when I rewatched it, but oh my god, it's mirroring.
- 25:55Speaker 1: Remember when Ash was leaving jail and Max asked him, like,
- 25:59Speaker 1: are you all packed? And he's like, I don't have anything.
- 26:01Speaker 1: I fucking love that. I'm so happy that this is
- 26:04Speaker 1: in there. So anyway, Bone says, let's get going. Then
- 26:09Speaker 1: AG's like, can you tell Ash for me to take
- 26:12Speaker 1: care of himself? And that I'll be praying for him
- 26:15Speaker 1: wherever I am fuck. Bones and Kong look sad. And
- 26:21Speaker 1: now we see them at the elevators waiting for the
- 26:23Speaker 1: elevator to come, and Bones and Kong are standing kind
- 26:26Speaker 1: of in front of Ag facing elevators, and Ags standing
- 26:30Speaker 1: behind them. Obviously. At this point, Kong looks over at Bones,
- 26:34Speaker 1: but Bones is like doing his best not to look
- 26:36Speaker 1: at him, and he's like, I can't take it anymore.
- 26:39Speaker 1: I can't keep a secret. Bones tries to strush him,
- 26:42Speaker 1: but AG's right there and AG's like, what are you
- 26:45Speaker 1: talking about? They flinch because they're stupid, and AG's like,
- 26:51Speaker 1: I know you're hiding something. Tell me. I'm begging you
- 26:53Speaker 1: to tell me the truth. Did something happen to Ash?
- 26:57Speaker 1: Bones sighs and turns back to Ag, and he's like,
- 27:02Speaker 1: Boss is fighting Arthur right now at East Broadway station
- 27:06Speaker 1: to settle things once and for all. AG looks shocked.
- 27:09Speaker 1: We go back to Ash, who is sitting in the
- 27:13Speaker 1: darkened subway car. I guess when he shut out the
- 27:15Speaker 1: lights he was just really trying to protect himself for
- 27:18Speaker 1: a while, because he's probably exhausted and he thinks the
- 27:23Speaker 1: sun will rise soon. I might die this time. He
- 27:27Speaker 1: closes his eyes. We go to kind of a flashback,
- 27:31Speaker 1: but not something we've seen before from the last episode.
- 27:34Speaker 1: Remember when Ag found Ash at the library and then
- 27:39Speaker 1: they like went to like a peer or a place
- 27:43Speaker 1: by what looked like the Hudson River. They were like
- 27:45Speaker 1: standing at the edge of it, overlooking the New York skyline.
- 27:49Speaker 1: So I was thinking, maybe they're on the Jersey side
- 27:50Speaker 1: that kind of place. So we're back there and Ash says, hey, Ag,
- 27:57Speaker 1: have you ever thought about death? What AG's like death? Ash,
- 28:05Speaker 1: who is just looking out over the water, says, he said,
- 28:08Speaker 1: I wasn't like normal people. One thing I'll admit to
- 28:11Speaker 1: not being normal about is that I don't fear death.
- 28:14Speaker 1: He leans over the rail slightly. Humans can be funny.
- 28:18Speaker 1: They don't understand death, but they instinctively fear it. There
- 28:22Speaker 1: were so many times where I thought that death would
- 28:24Speaker 1: be better, Dying would seem so sweet and tempting. Then
- 28:32Speaker 1: fuck AG is like Ash. Ash continues, There's a mountain
- 28:40Speaker 1: in Kilimanjaro nineteen seven hundred and ten feet high, deep
- 28:44Speaker 1: in the snow. The mass I call the western summit
- 28:48Speaker 1: the House of God. We see a mountain now, Ash
- 28:52Speaker 1: continues near its peak, lies that the shriveled and frozen
- 28:56Speaker 1: carcass of a leopard. What was the leopard doing so
- 28:59Speaker 1: high up there? We see a dead leopard. Nobody's been
- 29:02Speaker 1: able to explain it. That's from the novel The Snows
- 29:06Speaker 1: of Kilimanjaro. When I think of my death, I picture
- 29:10Speaker 1: that leopard. Why had he climbed so high up the mountain?
- 29:14Speaker 1: Did he just get lost while he was hunting prey
- 29:17Speaker 1: until he reached the point of no return? Or had
- 29:19Speaker 1: he climbed higher and higher as if possessed by something
- 29:23Speaker 1: and then collapsed while he was trying. What's his carcass like?
- 29:27Speaker 1: Was he trying to go back or was he trying
- 29:29Speaker 1: to keep going higher? Either way, you must have known
- 29:33Speaker 1: he wouldn't be able to make it back. Oh my god.
- 29:37Speaker 1: Ag is just staring at him, just completely hurt by
- 29:41Speaker 1: all of this, and ashe says, don't look at me
- 29:45Speaker 1: like that. I've never been afraid of death, but I've
- 29:47Speaker 1: also never wished for it. Ag says, good, I'm glad
- 29:52Speaker 1: to hear that humans can change their destiny. They have
- 29:56Speaker 1: wisdom that leopards don't. And besides, you're not a leopard, right.
- 30:02Speaker 1: Ash looks away and he's like, yeah, you're right. Okay,
- 30:09Speaker 1: well that was a lot anyway. We cut back to
- 30:13Speaker 1: Ash as he opens his eyes, and then we go
- 30:16Speaker 1: to Ag and Bones and Kong as the elevator door
- 30:20Speaker 1: is finally open. Bones is like, well, go on now,
- 30:24Speaker 1: and they kind of like move out of the way
- 30:26Speaker 1: for Ag so that he can get on first, which
- 30:29Speaker 1: I guess I understand because they don't want to get
- 30:32Speaker 1: on and then have him just run away or something.
- 30:35Speaker 1: Ag walks into the elevator and then he turns back
- 30:41Speaker 1: and he knocks Bones and Kong to the ground and
- 30:44Speaker 1: the door's closed before they can get in or do anything.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Kung stands up and he bangs on the door and
- 30:50Speaker 1: he's like, hey, Bone says, cut the shit already. Kong
- 30:55Speaker 1: turns back confused, and Bones is like, at least we
- 30:58Speaker 1: can tell the boss. We try, we'll just get a
- 31:01Speaker 1: few knocks in the head, is all. Ag, who is
- 31:04Speaker 1: now alone in the elevator, thinks I've heard it so
- 31:07Speaker 1: many times, your cries as you slept. We see their
- 31:11Speaker 1: bedroom at night, and Ash is asleep just like he
- 31:16Speaker 1: just looks terrible, and Ag continues, you cried for help,
- 31:22Speaker 1: You cried for your mother, Ash wakes up and he's
- 31:25Speaker 1: just covered in sweat, and he looks so scared. AG continues,
- 31:31Speaker 1: I pretended not to notice. Ash looks over at Ag,
- 31:35Speaker 1: who is pretending to sleep. I guess, well, technically his
- 31:38Speaker 1: eyes were open, but his face the other way, so
- 31:39Speaker 1: Ash doesn't know, and AG continues it pained me. Ash
- 31:46Speaker 1: gets up and he stands by the window. What are
- 31:48Speaker 1: these nightmares that torment you sew about? Is it about
- 31:52Speaker 1: killing Shorter or some other bitter childhood memory that I
- 31:56Speaker 1: don't know about. We see some flashbacks to pre episodes.
- 32:01Speaker 1: You're almost cold blooded leadership, your fearless willpower. We see
- 32:07Speaker 1: AG running down the street. Now is it all to
- 32:10Speaker 1: cover up a fragile soul? If so, how cruel it
- 32:15Speaker 1: all is? Ash? Don't die? You have to live. Yeah.
- 32:21Speaker 1: I cried super hard when I was taking notes for
- 32:25Speaker 1: this in this section because I think Age's right so,
- 32:33Speaker 1: and I'm crying a little bit now, but not a ton.
- 32:36Speaker 1: We cut to black, and then we see that it
- 32:39Speaker 1: is because we are in the tunnel and the train
- 32:42Speaker 1: finally emerges into the sunlights and it's light in Ash's car.
- 32:49Speaker 1: Guys from both the front and the back cars opened
- 32:53Speaker 1: the doors into Ash's car, and they prepared a fire.
- 32:56Speaker 1: Ash shoots one of them in the head, and actually
- 32:59Speaker 1: he shoots most of them in the head, and this
- 33:01Speaker 1: one guy is like die and he manages to get
- 33:04Speaker 1: a bullet in and it grazes Ash's shoulder, so his
- 33:08Speaker 1: right shoulder is bleeding now, but Ash does take him out.
- 33:11Speaker 1: The last guy who is left is shaking so much
- 33:15Speaker 1: that he drops his gun. He bends down to pick
- 33:17Speaker 1: it up, and then he looks up to Ash standing
- 33:20Speaker 1: over him. Ash looks at him coldly and then shoots.
- 33:24Speaker 1: He turns back and he sees that Arthur is in
- 33:26Speaker 1: the next car running for it, and we cut to
- 33:30Speaker 1: Arthur and Arthur's like, damn it. Ash holding his right
- 33:34Speaker 1: shoulder is now chasing him, and Arthur's like, damn it,
- 33:37Speaker 1: damn it. Ash now in the same car as Arthur,
- 33:41Speaker 1: says Frederick. Arthur stops and he says, that's the first
- 33:47Speaker 1: time you've ever called me by my first name. He
- 33:50Speaker 1: turns back and he leans against the door between the
- 33:54Speaker 1: cars and I don't know if this is like the
- 33:56Speaker 1: last car or the first car, but I don't think
- 33:58Speaker 1: he can go much further. And he says, I lose
- 34:02Speaker 1: kill me. Ash pauses, and then he puts his gun
- 34:07Speaker 1: down on one of the seats. Arthur looks surprised, and
- 34:09Speaker 1: he's like, don't you want to blow my brains out?
- 34:12Speaker 1: You're mocking me because I can't shoot. Ash says, no,
- 34:16Speaker 1: I could easily shoot you if I wanted to. Arthur says,
- 34:20Speaker 1: then do it. And Ash is like, stop running from
- 34:24Speaker 1: me and fight. Arthur gasps and kind of pauses, and
- 34:27Speaker 1: he's like, bring it on. He stands up straight. It's
- 34:30Speaker 1: clear to me now we finally won't have to be
- 34:33Speaker 1: haunted by each other anymore, right, boss. We cut to
- 34:36Speaker 1: a helicopter in the sky, obviously, and we hear some
- 34:40Speaker 1: guys say they're reaching Brooklyn. We see Charlie and Jenkins
- 34:45Speaker 1: at the station looking at some screens or whatever, and
- 34:49Speaker 1: we hear the guy in the helicopter say they're moving
- 34:51Speaker 1: along the F line. Charlie's like, the last stop of
- 34:54Speaker 1: the F line is and he gasps Coney Island, and
- 34:58Speaker 1: then we see con the island and the train approaching it. Okay,
- 35:03Speaker 1: it's important that I say this. The last stop of
- 35:06Speaker 1: the F line really is Coney Island so fucking cool,
- 35:09Speaker 1: and it really is an elevated stop, and it really
- 35:11Speaker 1: does look like this, So I was pretty fucking excited
- 35:14Speaker 1: about that when I figured it out, because yeah, I
- 35:18Speaker 1: just went and researched all of this because I'm insane. Also,
- 35:22Speaker 1: it takes about forty seven minutes from East Broadway to
- 35:25Speaker 1: get to the last stop, according to Google Maps at least,
- 35:30Speaker 1: so it's probably closing in at about five am now
- 35:35Speaker 1: maybe like let's just say five am. So there's a
- 35:38Speaker 1: little bit of a problem here, and that is that
- 35:41Speaker 1: it is October now, and I am just two hours
- 35:45Speaker 1: from New York, and I know that it is not
- 35:47Speaker 1: light at five am. In fact, it's not really light
- 35:50Speaker 1: until seven am right now. But I'm just gonna give
- 35:53Speaker 1: them this because according to my really really not very
- 35:56Speaker 1: thorough web search that I just did two minutes ago,
- 35:59Speaker 1: Japan does an even have daylight savings time, so I
- 36:03Speaker 1: could forgive this anyway. Continuing right along, the train stops
- 36:08Speaker 1: and the doors open, so they're on the elevated tracks
- 36:11Speaker 1: still with the train stopped, Arthur says, aren't she gonna
- 36:15Speaker 1: ask me why I hate you so much? We see
- 36:18Speaker 1: them like walking out of the train and onto the tracks.
- 36:21Speaker 1: They could have fought in the train, by the way,
- 36:23Speaker 1: but I guess they want to do it outside. We
- 36:26Speaker 1: hear Arthur say, they say I'm a coward or that I
- 36:29Speaker 1: become the mafiast dog. But I did all of that
- 36:31Speaker 1: to wipe you out of my sight. Geez, do you
- 36:34Speaker 1: know why? And Ash is like yeah, but it's not
- 36:38Speaker 1: my fault. Arthur's like, yeah, you never asks for it,
- 36:44Speaker 1: but that makes me hate you even more. I hate
- 36:47Speaker 1: you down to my bones. I'm gonna pause here and
- 36:52Speaker 1: just say that. So Arthur just hates Ash because Ash
- 36:55Speaker 1: is Ash, I guess, because really it seems like all
- 36:58Speaker 1: Arthur wants is power and to be in with the mafia,
- 37:01Speaker 1: and that's something that ashe got without even trying to
- 37:06Speaker 1: get it. He was just I guess from the outside,
- 37:09Speaker 1: it just looks like he's always been in Dino's good graces,
- 37:12Speaker 1: you know, and he didn't even work towards it, which
- 37:15Speaker 1: isn't really true. So I think that Arthur wishes that,
- 37:21Speaker 1: you know, Dino loved him the way that Dino loves Ash,
- 37:25Speaker 1: except I don't think sexually, but I'm not sure. I
- 37:29Speaker 1: think he just wishes that Dino was like, Wow, he's
- 37:33Speaker 1: fucking awesome, but I'm not sure, guys, I'm really not sure.
- 37:38Speaker 1: But anyway, it seems like just Arthur hates Ash because
- 37:41Speaker 1: he's jealous of his absolute terrible life. Again, it's like
- 37:47Speaker 1: Arthur was using Ash's life against him when he was like, Hey,
- 37:51Speaker 1: I'm gonna make things happen to Ag that happened to you,
- 37:54Speaker 1: and it's gonna upset you real bad because I know
- 37:56Speaker 1: that your life was terrible. But then at the same
- 37:58Speaker 1: time he's like, man, I wish I was you. It's like, no,
- 38:01Speaker 1: you don't. Like nothing that happens to Ash has been good.
- 38:05Speaker 1: And I know that he is in a position where
- 38:07Speaker 1: he's got gangs that trust him and believe in him,
- 38:10Speaker 1: and the mafia was on his side and he was
- 38:13Speaker 1: in their good graces and Dino was like loved him,
- 38:17Speaker 1: but like, I don't actually think you want that, But
- 38:22Speaker 1: Arthur has this like delusion of grandeur that he can't
- 38:27Speaker 1: achieve because of Ash. I guess. So, yeah, I hope
- 38:32Speaker 1: that that meant something to you, because it didn't to me,
- 38:34Speaker 1: I guess even though I just said it. Anyway, Ag
- 38:39Speaker 1: is running still somewhere in Manhattan, and a car pulls
- 38:44Speaker 1: up to him and stops. Bones leans out of the
- 38:46Speaker 1: passenger side and he says, hey, we got word. The
- 38:49Speaker 1: Boss isn't at the station anymore. Jump in. We cut
- 38:52Speaker 1: to Ag in the backseat as Kong tribes and Ag says,
- 38:56Speaker 1: can't you go any faster? Bone says like, yeah, you
- 39:00Speaker 1: want to die on the way there. Oh, they like
- 39:03Speaker 1: to observe the speed limits. Kng says, damn it. It
- 39:07Speaker 1: seems like the cops are already in on it too.
- 39:10Speaker 1: We see several cop cars speed past them, and Kong
- 39:13Speaker 1: is like, there's a whole mob of them. Bone says,
- 39:16Speaker 1: if they get Boss, he'll never make it out alive. Elsewhere,
- 39:20Speaker 1: we see the Chinese gang as they arrive at Coney
- 39:23Speaker 1: Island by the tracks, and they're on motorcycles. I guess
- 39:26Speaker 1: actually they're a motorcycle gang. Just pretty cool, saying looks
- 39:30Speaker 1: up at the tracks and he says, there they are, obviously,
- 39:34Speaker 1: and Ash and Arthur are on the tracks and they
- 39:37Speaker 1: are already fighting. They both look kinda tired already, so
- 39:42Speaker 1: who knows how long this has been. Arthur kind of
- 39:45Speaker 1: circles Ash on the track and he's like, what's wrong.
- 39:48Speaker 1: You're out of breath. Don't forget that Ash is injured
- 39:52Speaker 1: and it's his right arm, so I actually think he's
- 39:54Speaker 1: doing most of the fighting with his lefts and now,
- 39:57Speaker 1: which I don't think is his dominant arm, so this
- 39:59Speaker 1: can't be going as well as he'd hoped anyway. Arthur says,
- 40:02Speaker 1: let me put you down, and he runs at him.
- 40:05Speaker 1: Ash dodges and they kind of like knife spar for
- 40:08Speaker 1: a bit until Ash finally cuts Arthur's cheek. Arthur wipes
- 40:13Speaker 1: the blood off of his face, and at this point
- 40:15Speaker 1: Black Sabbath pulls up. Kine gets out of the car
- 40:18Speaker 1: and then to Sing says where are they? They're right
- 40:21Speaker 1: above you, guys. Sing is like up there, Ash's shoulders cut.
- 40:26Speaker 1: Kine's like, that's gonna weigh him down if this drags
- 40:28Speaker 1: out exactly. Ash looks really tired and he's breathing really hard,
- 40:33Speaker 1: and Arthur is looking pretty good right now, despite just
- 40:36Speaker 1: getting a cut on his cheek. He tosses his butterfly
- 40:39Speaker 1: knife back and forth, again, trying to look cool like
- 40:42Speaker 1: he did a little bit earlier. He is not cool.
- 40:45Speaker 1: Arthur is not cool. Ash is kind of trying to
- 40:49Speaker 1: collect himself, just watching Arthur play with his knife, and
- 40:52Speaker 1: then Arthur finally runs at him. Ash steps backwards, but
- 40:56Speaker 1: remember they're on tracks, and his foot like catches the
- 41:00Speaker 1: air between the tracks and he stumbles backwards. This allows
- 41:05Speaker 1: Arthur to grab him by the wrist and he raises
- 41:09Speaker 1: his knife as Ash falls back and he's like die.
- 41:13Speaker 1: Ash grabs Arthur by the wrist that has the knife
- 41:16Speaker 1: in it to prevent the knife from actually reaching him,
- 41:18Speaker 1: so they both have each other by different wrists basically,
- 41:22Speaker 1: and he slams back into the track, so Arthur's basically
- 41:25Speaker 1: on top of him, trying to bring the knife down
- 41:27Speaker 1: on him as he struggles to keep it away. Eventually,
- 41:31Speaker 1: Ash manages to kick Arthur off, thank god. This is
- 41:36Speaker 1: when Ag and Bones and Kong pull up. So at
- 41:39Speaker 1: this point there's a pretty big crowd watching from the ground,
- 41:42Speaker 1: and Ag gets out of the car and he's like
- 41:44Speaker 1: pushing through them and he's like move, like, please let
- 41:47Speaker 1: me through. He finally gets to a spot where he's
- 41:50Speaker 1: close to the front and he just yells Ash, oh
- 41:54Speaker 1: my god. Agy. Ash of course hears him and immediately
- 41:59Speaker 1: knows it's Age and gasps, and this just totally throws
- 42:02Speaker 1: him off, so he isn't able to dodge Arthur's next attack,
- 42:06Speaker 1: and Arthur slashes him in his left side. AG of course,
- 42:11Speaker 1: witnesses all of this, and he just looks horrified. This
- 42:13Speaker 1: is kind of your fault, AG, But I understand. At
- 42:17Speaker 1: this point, drops of Ash's blood land on the tracks
- 42:21Speaker 1: and we see Ash clutching his left side kind of
- 42:25Speaker 1: I guess where your kind of kidney area would be.
- 42:27Speaker 1: I don't really know. Arthur licks the blood from his
- 42:31Speaker 1: knife and prepares to attack again. Like, Arthur grows gross.
- 42:38Speaker 1: You don't know what kind of diseases Ash has. I
- 42:42Speaker 1: don't want to lick anyone's blood. Why would you do that,
- 42:46Speaker 1: especially when this originally took place in like the eighties, Like,
- 42:49Speaker 1: we don't lick people's blood. It's dangerous. Anyway, he's insane.
- 42:55Speaker 1: Ash tries to move forward and he just kind of
- 43:00Speaker 1: winces in pain and half stumbles instead, and at this
- 43:03Speaker 1: point Arthur rushes him Somehow Ash gets up enough strength
- 43:07Speaker 1: and he runs at him as well, and for a
- 43:10Speaker 1: brief moment, we have slow motion as they're coming towards
- 43:13Speaker 1: each other and Agy's like stop. Ash dodges Arthur at
- 43:18Speaker 1: the last second, and he fucking stabs him in the
- 43:21Speaker 1: stomach and then he stabs him again in the throats,
- 43:25Speaker 1: and he kind of like lets out a you know,
- 43:27Speaker 1: guttural scream. He then rips the knife out of Arthur's throats,
- 43:33Speaker 1: slashing it and blood sprays into the air. The crowd
- 43:38Speaker 1: cheers except for Age. Of course. Arthur stumbles back, I guess,
- 43:44Speaker 1: trying to breathe through his slash throats, and then through
- 43:48Speaker 1: Arthur's point of view, we see him reach towards Ash,
- 43:51Speaker 1: his vision going in and out of focus, and then
- 43:55Speaker 1: he falls backwards over the rail. He looks terrified. There's
- 44:02Speaker 1: a moment of slow motion as he is descending, and
- 44:06Speaker 1: then he hits the ground below with a thud. Everyone
- 44:13Speaker 1: cheers as Arthur lays on the ground in a pool
- 44:17Speaker 1: of his own blood. Yeah. Ash exhales and raises his
- 44:25Speaker 1: knife in the air. He does not look happy. The
- 44:30Speaker 1: crowd just begins to chant his name over and over again.
- 44:35Speaker 1: Ash stares directly at Ag now just incredibly sternly. Ag,
- 44:41Speaker 1: to his credit, is just frozen in shock at this point,
- 44:45Speaker 1: and Ash yells to him go back to Japan. Ag gasps.
- 44:51Speaker 1: Ash says, I he looks really frightened for a second,
- 44:56Speaker 1: and then just terribly sad I don't want you seeing
- 45:00Speaker 1: me like this. What. Ah draws a sharp breath, and
- 45:08Speaker 1: at this point a helicopter starts to descend over the
- 45:13Speaker 1: tracks and it's like hovering and Ash is trying to
- 45:17Speaker 1: protect himself from all of the winds, and the ending
- 45:20Speaker 1: theme starts up, which honestly sucks because that means we're
- 45:23Speaker 1: not gonna get the ending animation, and again, this is
- 45:25Speaker 1: the last time we would see this ending, so I'm
- 45:28Speaker 1: pretty sad. Within seconds, the cops arrive and they aim
- 45:32Speaker 1: at the crowd. One of the cops is like, everyone, freeze,
- 45:35Speaker 1: resist and well open fire. Wow, that's really honest, guys.
- 45:39Speaker 1: Cops are now on the tracks with Ash too, and
- 45:42Speaker 1: Ash is just like not able to stand up straight anymore.
- 45:47Speaker 1: He's just in so much pain. Another cop says, freeze,
- 45:51Speaker 1: put down your weapon. At this point, Charlie runs up
- 45:55Speaker 1: like he's on the tracks and he's like, don't resist, Ash,
- 45:57Speaker 1: you're surrounded. Ash he's just kind of swaying now, not
- 46:02Speaker 1: able to find his balance, and he just says shut up,
- 46:07Speaker 1: as if I could resist anyways, and he collapses. Ag
- 46:13Speaker 1: is so scared. The police rush over and they lift
- 46:17Speaker 1: up now unconscious Ash on the ground. Cops grabs Sing
- 46:22Speaker 1: and Caine and sings like, let go, I didn't do anything.
- 46:25Speaker 1: The cops like, shut up, you're under arrest. Sing looks
- 46:29Speaker 1: over and he sees someone being put in the ambulance.
- 46:32Speaker 1: They look like they have a blanket over them, so
- 46:34Speaker 1: maybe it's dead. Arthur, I'm not really sure, and he thinks, unbelievable.
- 46:39Speaker 1: I'm nothing compared to him. That's okay, Sing, you don't
- 46:42Speaker 1: want to be him Ash that is, or really Arthur.
- 46:45Speaker 1: Ag at this point is pushing through a crowd of onlookers,
- 46:49Speaker 1: like not gang members, like people who have come to
- 46:51Speaker 1: see what the fuck is going on, and he's trying
- 46:54Speaker 1: to be nice. He's like, please let me move, let
- 46:55Speaker 1: me through. Once he gets through them, he starts to
- 47:00Speaker 1: towards the ambulance that I guess has Ash in it,
- 47:02Speaker 1: and he's like Ash. Before he can get close enough,
- 47:05Speaker 1: two police officers grab him by the arms and he's like,
- 47:08Speaker 1: let me go, take me with him. I'm his friend.
- 47:11Speaker 1: Oh my god, you're so sweet. The dude like standing
- 47:15Speaker 1: behind the ambulance like taps the ambulance like we're all done,
- 47:17Speaker 1: and the ambulance drives away and Ag is just left
- 47:20Speaker 1: there being detained by cops, just totally distraught. We then
- 47:24Speaker 1: cut away from Ag and we hear one of the
- 47:26Speaker 1: cops say, line up, don't put up a fight. Bone
- 47:29Speaker 1: and Kan are like hiding behind a building, I think,
- 47:32Speaker 1: but watching Ag get arrested and Bones is like that
- 47:35Speaker 1: idiot for real. Ag is now, I guess, in a
- 47:41Speaker 1: line of people who are gonna be taken to jail
- 47:44Speaker 1: or whatever, and he is just staring blankly and thinking
- 47:48Speaker 1: of the fight, and he thinks, no, this can't happen.
- 47:54Speaker 1: He closes his eyes tightly and he thinks of Ash
- 47:57Speaker 1: being lifted off the tracks. Ash. Then we go to
- 48:00Speaker 1: the title card, The Snows of Kilimanjaro, and that's the
- 48:06Speaker 1: end of the episode and the end of the first core. Yay,
- 48:11Speaker 1: we did it. So closing thoughts, Arthur's dead. That's pretty good. Honestly,
- 48:20Speaker 1: he's a piece of shit, So I'm glad he can't
- 48:23Speaker 1: come back. I'm kind of not happy that Ash had
- 48:25Speaker 1: to do it, or that he got incredibly injured, or
- 48:29Speaker 1: that it was kind of Age's fault a little bit
- 48:31Speaker 1: for calling out to him. I mean, that was dumb,
- 48:34Speaker 1: but I understand where Age's mind and heart were you know,
- 48:39Speaker 1: like he wanted to stop Ash from doing something else
- 48:42Speaker 1: that he'd regret. He wanted to stop him from being
- 48:46Speaker 1: killed or hurt. So like, I can't really fault him
- 48:51Speaker 1: for it, but it was dumb. And Ash, you know,
- 48:57Speaker 1: is taken away hopefully okay, and probably thinking that Age's
- 49:03Speaker 1: never gonna want to see him again because of this.
- 49:06Speaker 1: I mean, he very clearly told Ag that he didn't
- 49:10Speaker 1: want him to see him this way, and because he
- 49:15Speaker 1: knew what would happen, right, Like sometimes when you you
- 49:25Speaker 1: care about someone, I don't know, Ash is just so
- 49:32Speaker 1: guarded that letting this person that for some reason like
- 49:38Speaker 1: believes that he's like worthy of being loved, letting him
- 49:44Speaker 1: see like all of the really horrible stuff that he
- 49:49Speaker 1: is putting himself through and he is doing, like it's
- 49:57Speaker 1: gotta be really scary. Like he just he didn't he
- 50:00Speaker 1: didn't want him to see that, you know. So yeah,
- 50:07Speaker 1: and yeah, I'm sure he just I mean, he's passed out,
- 50:12Speaker 1: but I'm sure he must be scared that Age he
- 50:15Speaker 1: never you know, wants to see him again. And I
- 50:18Speaker 1: mean I know he was sending him back to Japan
- 50:22Speaker 1: hoping that they'd probably never see each other again, but
- 50:27Speaker 1: it's not because he wanted that, you know. And even
- 50:34Speaker 1: though in the previous episodes he had said, like, you know,
- 50:37Speaker 1: he'll hate me by then by the time that he
- 50:39Speaker 1: goes back, he didn't, so he didn't want this to
- 50:43Speaker 1: be the reason. You know. I'm not even sure this
- 50:47Speaker 1: makes sense because I'm crying now, but yeah, this was rough.
- 50:56Speaker 1: I didn't expect this episode to hit me this hard
- 50:59Speaker 1: watching it again, I don't think it did the first time,
- 51:01Speaker 1: but yeah, I I am hurt. And the whole thing
- 51:05Speaker 1: with Ash talking about his death, talking about how like
- 51:13Speaker 1: like he wasn't scared, which I'm not even sure that's
- 51:15Speaker 1: totally true, but about how there were a lot of
- 51:20Speaker 1: times when he thought that it would be better, be
- 51:25Speaker 1: comforting to just die, Like it's really hard, you know.
- 51:28Speaker 1: And there's something about the way that this character's written
- 51:32Speaker 1: that I really believe all of this, and it really
- 51:37Speaker 1: like hurts. I've seen kind of tragic characters done so
- 51:45Speaker 1: many times where I just like didn't care or I
- 51:49Speaker 1: mean that's mean, but sorry about my snipping, and I
- 51:53Speaker 1: just didn't really empathize in a way that like the
- 51:56Speaker 1: tragedy like hurt me. I haven't told you this because
- 52:00Speaker 1: I why would I? But I think I have synesthesia
- 52:03Speaker 1: for pain or pain empathy, and I think I mean
- 52:05Speaker 1: I do so when people like are like hurts, I hurts,
- 52:11Speaker 1: and I don't mean like mirror, I just mean like
- 52:13Speaker 1: my nerves will be like cool. Now I have pain too,
- 52:16Speaker 1: in a different spot. And if an anime is good enough,
- 52:20Speaker 1: it works for fictional people as well. So this episode,
- 52:24Speaker 1: when I was watching this back, I was like, in
- 52:27Speaker 1: fucking physical pain because this character's written well enough that
- 52:34Speaker 1: my body is reacting to their pain, which is totally
- 52:38Speaker 1: weird and makes me uncomfortable telling you, so let me
- 52:41Speaker 1: just stop. So the episode about knife fights ends the
- 52:45Speaker 1: way the saying about knife fights goes huh, which is,
- 52:49Speaker 1: in case you don't know, it's the loser dies in
- 52:52Speaker 1: the strait, the winner dies in the ambulance. They're not
- 52:57Speaker 1: a good time. They're not a good time at all. Yeah.
- 53:00Speaker 1: I don't have much else to say. I did want
- 53:03Speaker 1: to say, as I've been trying to for several episodes,
- 53:06Speaker 1: how we feeling about our main character, assuming that he's
- 53:10Speaker 1: still alive. Are you cool with this? Because we haven't
- 53:14Speaker 1: really done a show with a main character that was this.
- 53:16Speaker 1: I was gonna say morally gray, but that's not actually true.
- 53:19Speaker 1: I don't think Ash is morally gray. I think he's
- 53:21Speaker 1: got very solid morals, but he just can't keep to
- 53:25Speaker 1: them and it's very upsetting for him. This is definitely
- 53:28Speaker 1: the first character we've had that's an all out murderer,
- 53:31Speaker 1: like fucking for real, and the first one that we've
- 53:35Speaker 1: had that is a former prostitute. It's new on all sides,
- 53:38Speaker 1: and the first time we've had a character that is
- 53:41Speaker 1: definitely not straight. So, like, how you feeling about this?
- 53:46Speaker 1: Are you happy with it? Are you crying like I am?
- 53:48Speaker 1: Are you just like? Fuck this guy? I am really interested?
- 53:53Speaker 1: And if you want to tell me, you could. You
- 53:55Speaker 1: could tell me, like you could email me and you
- 53:57Speaker 1: could tell me about it, or you don't have to.
- 54:00Speaker 1: You can say that you like wanta come on a
- 54:03Speaker 1: little field trip to Manhattan that I stole them. Try
- 54:07Speaker 1: to plan where. Maybe we'll go to a couple of places,
- 54:10Speaker 1: not just the Grand Central Oyster Bar and girl. Maybe
- 54:13Speaker 1: we could take the f train, oh god, to Coney
- 54:19Speaker 1: Island and go to the library, but not in that order,
- 54:21Speaker 1: because that doesn't make any sense. Like, I don't know,
- 54:25Speaker 1: write to me and tell me things or don't or
- 54:27Speaker 1: please don't. I don't know. But anyway, obviously I really
- 54:31Speaker 1: like Ash's character because I'm like kind of wuzz and
- 54:34Speaker 1: am pretty like jazzed to have a character that is
- 54:39Speaker 1: this different than what I've been seeing recently or in general.
- 54:45Speaker 1: I don't normally see this type of character as a
- 54:47Speaker 1: main character in any sense of what he is, right,
- 54:51Speaker 1: I don't know. Characters like Ash are usually more marginalized.
- 54:54Speaker 1: They're usually secondary. They're usually being used to prove a
- 54:59Speaker 1: point for the main character, to inspire growth, to move
- 55:03Speaker 1: the plots. I don't normally see them as the subject
- 55:09Speaker 1: of the story or of what this essentially is, as
- 55:11Speaker 1: a character study of him. So like, I fucking love this.
- 55:16Speaker 1: Thank you Akemi Yoshida for making such an interesting and
- 55:19Speaker 1: dynamic and difficult character. Yeah, so anyway, I'm not really
- 55:25Speaker 1: sure what I just said there, but I hope that
- 55:27Speaker 1: it was interesting and not scary, because now you're afraid
- 55:30Speaker 1: of me for, you know, gushing about Ash. So I
- 55:36Speaker 1: am just gonna go and hopefully I will see you
- 55:39Speaker 1: next week. I hope that you had or have a
- 55:42Speaker 1: very good Halloween and that there are no knife fights involved,
- 55:47Speaker 1: because I don't want you dead or in the hospital.
- 55:49Speaker 1: That would be bad because then you couldn't listen anymore,
- 55:53Speaker 1: and also you'd be dead and that would be really sad.
- 55:55Speaker 1: And I don't want you to die because you're probably
- 55:57Speaker 1: a nice person, and even if you're not, I still
- 55:59Speaker 1: don't want you to die. So yeah, anyway, I'm going.
- 56:05Speaker 1: I hope you have a really good whatever later webs
