- 0:00Hey, I'm Lisa Chastain, and today I want to shift the entire
- 0:03way that you experience the holidays emotionally and
- 0:06financially. Let me start by asking you
- 0:08something. What if you can walk into this
- 0:10holiday season feeling good? Good about your money, good
- 0:14about how you're spending it, good about your time, your
- 0:17energy, and overall your financial picture?
- 0:20What if you can enjoy the holiday season without guilt,
- 0:23overwhelm or financial pressure and still have everything that
- 0:26actually matters? Well, here's the truth that no
- 0:28one teaches US. 95 percent of our purchasing decisions are in
- 0:31the unconscious mind, and they are emotional, not logical
- 0:36emotional. So if you've ever spent more
- 0:39than you planned or said yes when your soul and your bank
- 0:42account wanted to say no, there's nothing wrong with you.
- 0:45You're human, you're emotional, and you care.
- 0:48And today, we're going to honor that.
- 0:50First, let's set some expectations about what this
- 0:53conversation is. We're going to get clarity, be
- 0:56intentional. Talk about emotional wealth
- 0:58during the holidays. No restriction, no stress, not
- 1:03be good with money conversation. What we're creating in this
- 1:06video today is about creating a holiday season that feels
- 1:09aligned, joyful, and financially safe on your terms.
- 1:14By the end of this conversation, you will know what matters to
- 1:17you in this season, who you want to give the best of your time
- 1:21and energy to, and how to spend in a way that supports your joy
- 1:25and your goals, and how to start communicating confidently with
- 1:29your boundaries. Would that be valuable?
- 1:32OK, good, let's go. Here's the truth about happiness
- 1:34in the holidays. Science shows that experience
- 1:37makes us happier over things. Connection, memories, moments.
- 1:42These are the things that land in your heart about the
- 1:45holidays. It's not the price tag.
- 1:47So today is about more becoming intentionally and emotional
- 1:52proactive versus reactive and exhausted.
- 1:55So grab a notebook. You're going to pause if you
- 1:57need to get it. We're going to do this together.
- 2:00This is a working workshop today, and in 10 minutes you're
- 2:03going to feel more aligned in the way that you approach your
- 2:06holiday season. First, let me ask you this.
- 2:09What's most important to you about the holidays?
- 2:12Write down 15 things. Pause the video and come back.
- 2:15Not what you should care about, but what your heart cares about.
- 2:19Pause it. Come back. 15 things.
- 2:21OK, you're back now. What do you want to spend most
- 2:24of the time you have this season doing?
- 2:27Write that down. Come back three Who do you want
- 2:30to spend the most time with this season?
- 2:32Who do you want to spend the most time with this holiday
- 2:34season? This is your intentional energy
- 2:38list. Make it.
- 2:39Check it twice. Now take that list of people
- 2:42that you wrote down. Now next to each person that you
- 2:46wrote down, right next to it, mark and reflect on the holiday
- 2:49season and what's most important to you about each person.
- 2:52This is about meaning, not pressure.
- 2:54What's most important to you? Ask yourself, is this about
- 2:58them? Is this holiday season about
- 3:00them, or is it about me? This is where we get off track
- 3:04in our holidays, and let me explain, is that our holidays
- 3:06are all connected to holiday trauma, holiday drama, holiday
- 3:11emotion. And when we think back, when I
- 3:13ask this question to live audiences, one of the responses
- 3:16that I get back the most is that their holidays, they're trying
- 3:19to complete or repeat something from their past.
- 3:23Probably you too. You're thinking about your
- 3:25holidays, about what you used to do as kids.
- 3:28And you I want that experience for your kids.
- 3:30For example, this happens all the time in my conversations
- 3:33with my clients about money. So they want to have a memorable
- 3:36experience for their kids because that's the experience
- 3:39that they had. And they're trying to repeat and
- 3:41duplicate something from their past because it's all about
- 3:44holiday memories. It's not about holiday spending,
- 3:46it's about holiday memories. And then as you audit these
- 3:50people that you're thinking about this holiday season, who
- 3:52are the people that you want to spend the most time with?
- 3:55Is it about meaning or pressure? Is it about you?
- 3:57Is it about them? Is it about tradition or here's
- 4:01the kicker is it about obligation?
- 4:03This is what I mean by money is emotional before it's
- 4:06mathematical. How do you know how do you know
- 4:08if you're operating out of emotion from your past out of
- 4:11wanting to complete memories from the past where it's not
- 4:13possible, you can't go back or how do you know that you're
- 4:16operating out of vision for your life, the vision for your life,
- 4:20not out of the past. Let me give you a real time
- 4:23example of this when my son was one year old, he's 17 today, but
- 4:27the first Christmas that we he had with my family was so
- 4:30stressful. My sister had a little boy
- 4:32Tucker and I have Connor and my mom has been waiting her whole
- 4:37life to be a grandmother. Mom, I love you if you're
- 4:39watching this. And also then my husband, my
- 4:43ex-husband at the time was my husband, his mom.
- 4:46It was her first grandbaby. So my parents, my family wanted
- 4:50to spend first Christmas with him, with Tucker, create those
- 4:54memories. And then my husband's mom, her
- 4:58first grandson, her first Christmas with her grandson,
- 5:01they also wanted that memory. They also wanted that
- 5:04experience. Well, my husband and I for weeks
- 5:07felt like we were just in this tug of war with my family and
- 5:10his family trying to decide who Connor was going to spend his
- 5:14first Christmas with. We spent our Christmas chasing
- 5:18our tails, trying to make everybody happy.
- 5:21Maybe you can relate to this when it comes to to money and
- 5:24what you're spending in the holidays.
- 5:26Same thing applies. Who are you spending the money
- 5:28for? What are you spending the money
- 5:30on and for what purpose? So how do you check on that?
- 5:34How do you get clear about that? First, go back to your 6 year
- 5:37old self. What do you remember about the
- 5:38holidays? What was that memory?
- 5:40What were you doing? What did it smell like?
- 5:42What did it feel like? What happened in those holiday
- 5:45seasons? Were they happy or were they
- 5:48sad? Because whether you realize it
- 5:50or not, your unconscious mind is constantly trying to complete
- 5:53events. And if you have an event from
- 5:55your past that you're trying to complete during the holiday
- 5:58season, no amount of money is going to fix it or change it.
- 6:02So go back to your 6 year old self, your 4 year old self.
- 6:05What was life like? Now come back into the present.
- 6:08What is it that you're trying to accomplish this holiday season?
- 6:11And is it from your past or is it based on your vision or the
- 6:15future and how you want to spend this holiday season?
- 6:19Is it meeting other people's expectations or is it working on
- 6:21meeting your own? After that first Christmas with
- 6:24my son Connor, things changed for us.
- 6:26We negotiated with our family way ahead of time, and also my
- 6:30siblings and I had conversations around what was important to
- 6:33them financially during the holiday season.
- 6:35Have the conversations now with the people that you love and ask
- 6:38them what's important to them about the holiday season.
- 6:42You might be surprised. It probably isn't more things
- 6:45because what most of us remember is the experience of the holiday
- 6:49season, not the actual things that went with it.
- 6:53So we get caught up with these spending conversations, but dig
- 6:57deep into your past and the traditions and now ask yourself
- 7:00this. What traditions actually bring
- 7:03you joy? What are the traditions that you
- 7:05have in your family or your significant other's families
- 7:08that make you feel good and happy?
- 7:12And then which ones don't? Don't do the things that you
- 7:15don't feel happy about anymore in your holiday season.
- 7:18We have one life and if we're lucky, we have a total of 8070
- 7:23Christmases. How do you want to spend yours?
- 7:26Literally in time and energy and resources and memories and
- 7:30shift. Now, what you'll notice is a
- 7:33direct correlation to how you feel about your money, how you
- 7:37spend your money, what you do with money, the trips you take,
- 7:40the trips you decide not to take because you were only trying to
- 7:43make Uncle Joe happy. Getting conscious and clear
- 7:46about what's important to you about money now, before the
- 7:48holiday season, is one of the best places for you to spend
- 7:51your time and your energy so that you can jump into the
- 7:54holiday seasons with joy, with purpose, and with clarity.
- 7:58Who do you need to have a conversation with now?
- 8:00Your partner, your kids, your family, your friends.
- 8:05Hear me when I say this. Kids understand love.
- 8:08Kids understand presence. They don't need the pressure of
- 8:11all of this. They just need you.
- 8:13That's all they wanted me. And money and spending, when
- 8:16done intentionally, will support your total financial goals in
- 8:21how you operate and continue to move through.
- 8:23Now, let's reflect this back to money.
- 8:25The average American spends about $1400 during the holiday
- 8:29season. Most of that is emotional, it's
- 8:31impulsive, and it's expectation driven.
- 8:34We're not doing it this way anymore.
- 8:36We're doing it your way. Ask yourself, we're going to
- 8:38close out today's conversation with this.
- 8:40What do you have already saved? What are you choosing to set
- 8:43aside between then and now? And what memories can you create
- 8:47that require you to spend nothing?
- 8:50Because let's go back to the research that we talked about at
- 8:52the beginning of this video. Your memories are your
- 8:55experiences, which over time create and derive more
- 8:59happiness. Connection is free, presence is
- 9:02free. Love isn't always measured in
- 9:04receipts. And that is where wealth begins.
- 9:06Emotional clarity, then financial clarity.
- 9:09So have the conversations, set the expectations, lead your life
- 9:14on purpose. That is emotional wealth.
- 9:17And I wish you the very best this holiday season.
