- 1:07made it. When you're here your family. Um, last night was freaking
- 1:11wild. The deckies got out of hand. I can't believe we're here.
- 1:15This it felt, you know, I felt like I had to pace myself
- 1:19yesterday with all of my vodkatana that the pestivities, you know, when it
- 1:25got wild to me was it is like I felt like we kept on the
- 1:26rail for the first three hours, an hour four. It just got out
- 1:33of hand. It it We probably should have cut the feed, but we've
- 1:36got awards to do. We don't want to shortenybody. We get well.
- 1:40The problem was is the in in the first hour when like we said,
- 1:45rig you can get a type five, that's right that and he did a
- 1:49Type five like fifty uh and it was five. We had to keep our
- 1:55fingers on the beat button. But it happens to the best of us.
- 1:59Hey, we it is yogavel gavel. We are watching a couple of different
- 2:04judges today. I'm gonna tell Dan about my case. He hasn't seen it,
- 2:07and he's gonna try to figure out what happened. And and Dan's gonna
- 2:09do the exact same thing, true story, flip it over and turn it
- 2:12over and switch. Um. I have judged Karen, which I don't know.
- 2:15I don't think I've done a Karen. I think you did a Karen
- 2:19early on. I think I believe so. I think that was a Perez,
- 2:23Christina Perez, we'll see. Okay, I don't know. So.
- 2:28In fact, um, i've never watched her. I really enjoyed it.
- 2:32I had a lot of fun, and you did a job Brown Texas Justice.
- 2:36Deep baby, man, he has a ball. I tell you,
- 2:39it's so good. It's so good. Who wants to go first today?
- 2:44I don't know. Let's flip a coin. Ready, here we go,
- 2:46heads tales Tales. It was tales Tales. I did it. Okay,
- 2:51we don't judge, Karen. I want to introduce you to Alexis Banks,
- 2:54please, the whole Banks, the Banks family, Bellet, et cetera.
- 2:59Yeah, yeah, um. She is suing Wayne Garland for three thousand,
- 3:04eight hundred and seventy dollars and fifty seven cents money she says she lost due
- 3:10to a broken engagement. All right, okay, So Alexis says that she
- 3:17was engaged to Wayne, she was planning the wedding. She was already kind
- 3:22of down the road in the wedding, and Wayne called it off, stood
- 3:25her up. Unbelievable. Here's what happened. They met while Wayne was in
- 3:30prison. Okay, okay, so, um, I want to take you
- 3:35into this beautiful romantic scene. I've got the vibes already. So Alexis goes
- 3:39to visit her uncle who's in prison. Yeah, walking by Wayne Caesar Stunner
- 3:46and Wayne is like, give me some of that, and Alexis says,
- 3:49who can blame him? And um, she did say that, so,
- 3:53uh, he probably hasn't seen a woman in a watch. Yeah. So
- 3:58Wayne slides her note somehow I don't know, just prison, I don't slides
- 4:04her a note and she begins writing with him. Writing turns to phone calls.
- 4:11Phone calls turns to her going to visit him every Saturday for a year.
- 4:17Are we talking conjugals? No, conjugals will get to that. Okay,
- 4:23every Saturday for a year. Um, and um it's it's hot,
- 4:30it's heavy. They're having a lot of fun, you know, they're talking
- 4:32as much fun as you can have, uh, talking to somebody in prison.
- 4:38Um. Karen says, I cannot believe you are spending this much time
- 4:46on a guy in prison. Wayne. How many times have you been to
- 4:50prison? And he says, this is my third or fourth time, depending
- 4:56on what how big? I don't know. So she is going every Saturday
- 5:00for a year to visit a third time Felon's right, he's been convicted of
- 5:06three felons. There are all the three strikes you become a felon situation.
- 5:12They are all drug related. Okay, okay, so you know, Karen
- 5:16says a three time felon. So I'm going to disagree with Karen. Okay.
- 5:21So six months after meeting, he gets on his knees and his nice
- 5:26orange jumpsuit and has a paper ring for her that a friend made him in
- 5:30prison and says, I'll get you the real thing when I'm out now.
- 5:34Um. Wayne says that he thought Alexis was the best thing to come his
- 5:41way, that he was really going to turn his life around, and right
- 5:45before getting out of prison, he writes the warden a letter and says,
- 5:50would you um do a commitment ceremony for me and Alexis? What? And
- 6:00uh? What is that? So it is a a non is not legally
- 6:06binding ceremony of two people saying they're committing their lives together. So it's similar
- 6:13to a wedding, but different because it does not matter. It's a dedication.
- 6:17It's a dedication, yes, which I you know, let's be honest,
- 6:20wouldn't the world be better or at least there'd be less money loss if
- 6:26we just said, let's just all do commitment ceremonies. Yeah, that's one
- 6:30way to look at it. So, um, so they do the commitment
- 6:34ceremony to prove their love to each other. Judge karns very confused by this.
- 6:38She's like, you're married, and she's like, no, it doesn't
- 6:42it didn't matter. It's Wayne says, he wanted to do this to prove
- 6:46my love for her. But um, one did not give them conjugal visits,
- 6:51so that never happened. Okay. Judge Kren says, thanked the Lord,
- 6:55okay, and um but it what it did give him for some reason
- 7:00reason like something about showing that you're committed to something made him get more food
- 7:05at dinner. So good, okay for him, good job. But that's
- 7:11a life hack for those of you out there that are considering getting in the
- 7:14prison game. Um do a commitment ceremony because you'll get more food considering getting
- 7:18in the prison game. That's exactly right, right, that's exactly right.
- 7:23Um. So he uh, he gets out of prison, he moves in
- 7:27with her, Okay, immediately right at prison. Judge Karen says, why
- 7:31would you do that? Alexis? She heard much from Alexis, and Alexis
- 7:35is like, why, here's the thing. Alexis talks a lot in this.
- 7:42She interrupts a lot, but she doesn't doesn't say much if that makes
- 7:46Alexis says I loved him, and she says, um, you you you
- 7:50didn't. You don't know him And she says, I went every Saturday for
- 7:55a year. And Karen says, that's not real life. You are getting
- 7:58to know a guy with no responsibilities, who doesn't have to pay for anything.
- 8:03He doesn't have to do anything. All of his meals are supplied for
- 8:05him. He doesn't even get to pick how much food he gets to eat.
- 8:09You know, he gets a little bit more than exactly right. But
- 8:11you didn't actually get to know him well. She says, I felt like
- 8:15I knew him, so uh moving, moving it goes and she says,
- 8:20I'm sorry. Wayne says I went from prison to another jail in her house.
- 8:28Um, I get in and she immediately has rules for me, such
- 8:31as I can't call my baby mama. Uh with her phone in the house.
- 8:39Um can He says, Hey, we should try to get a bigger
- 8:43place so that my son could come. Um. She says, no,
- 8:48no, not doing that. Um. And Alexis speaks up and says,
- 8:52um, that's because it's not your baby. Oh snap and us. No,
- 9:01it doesn't get to the paternity test, but there is some of that.
- 9:05Uh. He also says that Alexis talks a lot for him, which
- 9:09she does. She speaks of and she's like so uh. Karen's like I
- 9:13can see that. Um. So Wayne is like he is my son um
- 9:20and she says, uh, no he's not because that baby looks like the
- 9:24bailiff. The bailiff is white, and Wayne says, uh, well,
- 9:31he could do worse. He's a handsome bailiff Wayne. So there's that kid's
- 9:39white. It's not his kids. So the baby mama comes and she is
- 9:43light skins, so she has there's there's some sort of mix there. She's
- 9:46not white, um, but she's definitely on the lighter side o. Um.
- 9:52So Uh brings her out and she says, listen, we never did
- 9:56a paternity test. We were together for four years. Um, I have
- 10:00never been with anyone aside from Wayne. Wayne signed the birth certificate. The
- 10:05baby is hiss um. Karen says, is there a picture of the baby,
- 10:11and they're like, no, we didn't bring a picture of the baby.
- 10:13Alexis says, you know, I don't have a picture of that ugly
- 10:18little thing. That child not attractive. Wow, I don't know. Alexis
- 10:24does, though, have receipts for all of the things that she spent money
- 10:28on, such as the dress and different stuff like that, um totaling three
- 10:33thousand, eight hundred and seventy dollars and fifty seven cents, which is the
- 10:35amount of money that she is suing Wayne four UM. Wayne says, I
- 10:39left her because not only wouldn't would she not let my son come visit the
- 10:45apartment or come stay the night. She didn't even want him at the wedding,
- 10:50doesn't want the kid as a part of the wedding. And Alexis says,
- 10:54it's because it's not your kid. Wow. They can't get past that,
- 10:56can't get past that. So he leaves her with you know, three
- 11:01thousand, eight hundred and seventy dollars and fifty seven since worth of wedding debts,
- 11:05and it's time for Karen. So this is interesting because we've had a
- 11:09wedding case where I learned that a wedding ring is one of the few things
- 11:16that you can actually get reimbursed for if the wedding ring is not returned,
- 11:22and it's legal that that money is actually still yours if they do not follow
- 11:26through the wedding. It's a gift that's been given in contract, and if
- 11:31you don't go through the wedding, you get the money back or the ring
- 11:33back. Yet this is different. None of these this stuff is a ring,
- 11:37and so this is on her. Unfortunately, now it sounds like she's
- 11:43a terrible person that won't let his kid come to the wedding or be around.
- 11:46Regardless of his kid or not, he's raised the kid or at least
- 11:48been around, signed the birth certificate, trying to be a good father.
- 11:52She's getting nothing. That's my based upon my reading of the law. Brand
- 11:56she's getting nothing back to you. Karen says, Alexis, when you go
- 12:01home tonight, I don't want you to turn on the TV. I don't
- 12:05want you to open up your laptop. I don't want you to look at
- 12:09your phone. I want you to evaluate your life because what you had with
- 12:15Wayne was not love. Oh boy, were you lonely? Probably? Was
- 12:22it lust? Absolutely? Do you have low self? Self? Esteem that
- 12:26you would end up falling in love with somebody who's a three time felon,
- 12:31got him with with no job, probably very difficult to get a job.
- 12:35Yep, sure do. I don't protect people from foolishness. No money for
- 12:41you ruling in favor of the defendant, No, she does. Just got
- 12:46very nice to Wayne kind of. She's like, I don't know why you
- 12:50would ever be in love with Wayne A. Wayne's just sitting there like,
- 12:52okay, oh, you know. You know what though, I in the
- 12:56small amount of time that I saw Wayne with his baby mama, I'm shipping
- 13:00them. They seem like a very nice couple, and I really liked Wayne.
- 13:05Wayne, Wayne well spoken, seems like a good guy who you know,
- 13:11has obviously made poor decisions in his lot um. He was caught with
- 13:15a lot of marijuana with the attempt. He was charged with possession with the
- 13:20attempt um. So obviously poor decisions for Wayne um and life someonely gonna get
- 13:26harder for him. It's gonna be difficult, you know, with with his
- 13:28record to get a job, and that's unfortunately the system right now. Um,
- 13:33But I like him. I would take a chance on Wayne, take
- 13:37a chance. I would I would take a chance on Wayne, and Wayne
- 13:41is very happy that he gets to be more hands on with his kid,
- 13:45which was the big reason why the wedding ended up falling apart because with Alexis
- 13:48wouldn't allow that. So really, Wayne, you're dodged a ball. There
- 13:52s good to your kid. Keep fighting, do the right things. Yeah,
- 13:56if you want to email us, we'll get you a job. That's
- 13:58right, We got a job here for again. Uh kind of kind of
- 14:01also like a prison here. Yeah. Uh, it'll be fun, fun
- 14:05prison fun. It's fun, fun prison. It's fun prison. Hey,
- 14:09let's take a quick break. Yeah, welcome back. We got Judge Joe
- 14:11Brown on the line. Judge you there, all right, we'll be right
- 14:16back here on yoga. We'll go all oh boy, we're back. Judge
- 14:26Joe Brown not f and around. Uh he is he is serious. Sarah,
- 14:33Sarah, snake in his boot. There's a snake in my boot.
- 14:35Uh. Let me introduce you to the plaintiff. Uh, Tijuana Baxter,
- 14:41Tijuana Baxter is her name, Tijuana, Tijuana, Tijuana. Yeah, there's
- 14:46a there's a t I w u an a situation interesting okay, um,
- 14:50and she is suing her ex boyfriend for two thousand, six hundred and ninety
- 14:54two dollars. His name is Mark Graham, and Mark Graham has big energy.
- 14:58U he Uh, he is not a huge guy, but everything he
- 15:03does is intense. He's staring, he's drinking water, he's talking, he's
- 15:07got things to say. He's he's got big energy. Everything is pointed and
- 15:11is direct, and he's he's he's here. So it's Tijuana and Juanna Mark.
- 15:16And Mark's not afraid of a fight. He's got big energy. I
- 15:18don't know if I've told you that yet or not. Uh, he's got
- 15:20some interesting six hundred nine two dollars for rents not paid, cannot pay up,
- 15:26so they this is Tijuana talk. And she says they've been friends for
- 15:31nine years. They dated for two to three years. It didn't it didn't
- 15:35work out, but we remain friends. I'm always amazed at how little people
- 15:39know about time, Like a year is a long time, or like I
- 15:43don't know a prison sentence is it three or is it four? I don't
- 15:46feel like it's something two to three years something like that. Now. Uh.
- 15:48He had bad credit, go figure, big energy, bad credit,
- 15:52and so he wanted an apartment of his own and this woman who was not
- 15:56dating him and not living with him, signed the lease for him as the
- 16:03tenants. He sublet from her and he got an apartment from her and it
- 16:07went great. He paid all twelve months, no problems, no issues,
- 16:12got himself a girlfriend, they moved into another place. All in all done.
- 16:17That was the end of that story. Now, unfortunately for Mark and
- 16:22really for Tijuana, he broke up with his girlfriend a couple of years later,
- 16:26so we have evidence that he is capable of paying for this twelve months,
- 16:30no problem, right, we got that evidence. You know, Tijuana
- 16:34got got the lease for him, he paid it, he did his thing.
- 16:37So he then he went and lived with his girlfriend. Well, he
- 16:40broke up with his girlfriend. So what happens when he breaks up with his
- 16:42girlfriend? What does he do? He immediately calls his girl Tijuana. He
- 16:45says, I broke up with my girlfriend. Can I stay with you for
- 16:48a couple of months? And she says yes, and she asked him for
- 16:52no rent. They definitely got it something going on. Something, Yeah,
- 16:55No, she asked him for no rent, no utilities, no nothing.
- 17:00She's staying and he's staying like with her on her couch on her couch.
- 17:03Yeah, uh, he said, I stayed on She said, he stayed
- 17:07on my couch for two months. A month and a half in he found
- 17:08a place he wanted to stay. I co signed for him again for his
- 17:14own place to stay, as he would sublet for me. I co signed.
- 17:18My name was on the lease. His name was not m for an
- 17:22apartment. Because he had proven himself trustworthy, he got that apartment. He
- 17:26moved in so Ja really quick. So you know, she's obviously has a
- 17:30past with him. There's a full a year of payments. Yeah. Yeah,
- 17:34what was his job situation? We don't know. We still don't know
- 17:37what he does, but we know that, like she felt good enough obviously.
- 17:41She said that he had proven himself capable. He had paid all the
- 17:45rent, it had never been an issue, and he had a job at
- 17:47the time. Yes, and so he was he was gonna be able to
- 17:48pay it again. So Judge Joe pops in and says, um, did
- 17:52you stay at the apartment with him? And she says no, And immediately
- 17:57Martin pops in big energy and he goes, yes, she did your honor.
- 18:00She was there all the time, pretty much like a honeycomb hideout.
- 18:06Now he said. He says, honeycomb hideout, and I don't. I've
- 18:12never heard of. I love it and I love that and Joe Brown lets
- 18:18it go, but we'll come, we'll circle back. I probably I love
- 18:21it first time he let it go. Uh and and he she said,
- 18:23he said, he did, she did. She was there all the time.
- 18:26It was pretty much like a honeycomb hideout. And uh the uh Tijuana
- 18:32says, no, I had a house of my own, I had a
- 18:37mortgage. I was not involved with him. I did not stay there a
- 18:41single night. It never ever had. Wow, this is a straight up,
- 18:45she said. The defendant pops back up and goes, now, you're
- 18:48on it was a hot situation, honeycomb hideout, hot situation. I love
- 18:52Mark Man. Judge Joe says, it can be a hot situation all you
- 18:57want. That doesn't mean she was living there. What did you call it
- 19:00again? A honeycomb? What honeycomb hot out? You're on it, That's
- 19:06what I call it. And then he goes, yeah, Judge, and
- 19:10then he says this just like this. He says it just like this.
- 19:12He looks in the camera. What I think is the camera, but it's
- 19:15Judge Joey goes, Yeah, Judge, honeycomb hote out, hot situation,
- 19:21hot, emphasizes hot um, and Judge Joe goes, once again, it
- 19:30could have been a hot situation and a honeycomb hote out or whatever you called
- 19:36it. But she, by her admission, has a mortgage and it's so
- 19:41that was not her place of rest. She says, though that they never
- 19:45hooked up. Well they did for two to three years, and no honeycombe,
- 19:51no hot honeycomb hide out, none of that going on. And she
- 19:53has he has a copy Judge Joe Brown has a copy of the Least that
- 19:56has her name but has him as the sublet of her. And he says,
- 20:02she was not staying there. She was your landlady. That's who she
- 20:07was. She was your landlady, regardless of how hot the situation was.
- 20:11She was your landlady. And he says, but also the lease holder,
- 20:14you're on it, and he said, basically, he just says, um,
- 20:18okay, you left your lease early. You decided to leave that honeycomb
- 20:25hide out. Why did he leave? Uh? I don't know if it
- 20:29was a girlfriend or he found a bigger place. We'll get to it in
- 20:30a second. Yeah, um, and he said. He basically just keeps
- 20:34telling him to shut up because I'll get to you in a second. I'll
- 20:37let you explain your story. Just shut up, jud Joe Brown just keep
- 20:38saying, just to stop talking. Stop talking. We're still with the plaintiff.
- 20:41So he goes back to Tijuana. Tijuana says he told me in August,
- 20:45right after he moved in, uh, he moved out. He wanted
- 20:49to move out. He found a bigger place. He wanted to move out.
- 20:52I said, hey, are you going to take care of the rent
- 20:53and make sure you can actually get out of this lease? He said,
- 20:57yes, I'll take care of it. So I called the rental company.
- 21:00He did not take care of it. They said the rent hadn't been paid
- 21:03for August, and then, to break the least, the rental company and
- 21:07he required August rent, and then required two months rent, and then required
- 21:14pro rated fees based upon the whole year. So all of that total to
- 21:19twenty one hundred and sixty nine dollars, which she takes her credit very seriously.
- 21:26She said, I take my credit very seriously, your honor. I
- 21:27was upset. He told me he'd pay it, and then he said he
- 21:30didn't have the money and he wouldn't pay it. I paid it to keep
- 21:33my credit in standing. But this is on him. So Judge Joe goes
- 21:37back to Mark and says, all right, it's now your turn. Tell
- 21:41me your side of the story. And he says, first off, I
- 21:42was never sleeping on the couch at her place. I'm not a couch sleeper.
- 21:47That's how he just right out of the gate. That was the thing,
- 21:49that was the most important thing. I was never on that couch.
- 21:52You know where I was. I was. I'm not a couch sleeper.
- 21:53That's not how I do things. Second of all, your honor. She's
- 21:56a close friend. She's very dear to me. I've always been a responsible
- 22:00individual. The reason I couldn't get the apartment for myself is because I'm a
- 22:06convicted felon. Judge Joe go has always been responsible. We do that bit,
- 22:11okay, Now, he says, three weeks into this lease, I
- 22:15found a three bedroom house I wanted to get. I could afford it.
- 22:18I figured we could end the lease and you want it. She procrastinated a
- 22:22little bit. She didn't call and ask about that stuff. She procrastinated a
- 22:26little bit, and Judge Joe Brown says, so you think this is all
- 22:30her fault and he said, yeah, you're honor, I think it is.
- 22:32I think it's her fault. Uh. And and he said, I
- 22:36told her she asked for five eighty five right up front. You know,
- 22:38in this economy, we ebb and flow, sometimes we got money, sometimes
- 22:41we've done. I didn't have the five eighty five, but I told her
- 22:45the worst case scenario is we go to court. Worst case scenario. And
- 22:49he said, the worst case scenario is to go to court like and he
- 22:56said, like with the rental company. And he said, yes, he
- 23:00goes, but your name's not on the least. She would go to court
- 23:03with the rental company. And he says, but I would be there with
- 23:07her for support. Yeah, worst case scenario gets pretty bad. Judge Shoe
- 23:12said, looks at two one is did he say this? She said,
- 23:15uh, yes, Uh, he totally said this to me. I was
- 23:21like, I'm on the least like it wouldn't affect you at all. And
- 23:22he kept saying I'd be there for support, and I didn't know what that
- 23:26meant. So Judge Joe then says, he looks at Mark and he goes,
- 23:33do you know what a pigeon drop is? Go and uh Mark says,
- 23:38yes, your honor, I've seen it on my windshield. And he
- 23:41says, no, no, no, no, A pigeon drop is a
- 23:44con and he basically explains it's a con where the con artists is currently being
- 23:49conned, but he doesn't know he's being conned. And I didn't quite understand
- 23:53it. But basically, the con artist who thinks he's pulling the con is
- 23:56actually being conned. And the defendant goes, what's that have to do with
- 24:00this case, your honor? And he says, because I'm using every skill
- 24:04I've got not to bust out laughing at you right now. You think you're
- 24:08pulling one over on everybody. But I'm up here trying to use zen and
- 24:12every skill at my disposal to keep from busting out laughing at you and your
- 24:17trifling self. That's what he says. The audience collaps. Judge Jo then
- 24:22says, in cases of felonies, the character of the witness can be impeached
- 24:27if there's a record of misbehavior, and the defendant goes, your honor,
- 24:32that was five years ago. I've changed. What happened to change? I
- 24:34thought change was allowed and he says five years my foot, I've got fifteen
- 24:38pages of records. Two and a half years ago there was a conversion of
- 24:42property. Defendi goes, that wasn't me. You got your facts wrong,
- 24:47wasn't me. I didn't do that. He goes, well, i've got
- 24:48forgery. I've got forgery again, and he said, half of that's not
- 24:52me. And then he saw he said, I've got vehicular homicide. So
- 25:00you killed somebody forgery of an instrument whatever that means. When are you going
- 25:03to stop procrastinating and get on with your business of being an adult? And
- 25:10then he's ready to rule he killed someone, Yes, vehicular homicide. Oh
- 25:18my yeah. Well I don't think I think she is gonna get all the
- 25:23money here. Listen, it's always risky to do what she did. It's
- 25:33always a risk, right to get to to sign for somebody else to do
- 25:37a sub lease and then to pay out a pocket for their mistake. It's
- 25:41always a risk, I would say. In in in most uh you know
- 25:48eat scenarios, it still falls to the to him and so he should have
- 25:52paid it, and so it seems like a pretty easy one. But it
- 25:56also doesn't hurt that he's the worst. Oh yeah, and so I think
- 26:02she's gonna get all the money. So Judge Joe Brown, you would be
- 26:03wrong on a technicality. Judge Joe Brown doesn't just give her all the money.
- 26:07He gives her interest as well. He's he paid this money a couple
- 26:11of years ago. You should be getting the interest on that money if it
- 26:14was in your pocket. And so he gives her not the total. He
- 26:17gives her one hundred and some extra dollars in interest for two thousand, eight
- 26:19hundred and seventy three dollars. That's what Judge Joe Brown does. He makes
- 26:25it sting. He pulled, he pulled out the guy's record. Yeah,
- 26:29yeah, he was not messing around. That's great, man. And we
