- 0:30SPEAKER_01: Hey guys, welcome back to Skincare Anarchy.
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: This is your host, Ecta, and today's brand is so wonderful because I know with the summer coming up, we're really looking at our, you know, anti-persh brands or deodorants.
- 0:42SPEAKER_01: We're looking for all of those kind of products.
- 0:45SPEAKER_01: And one of the big things that I find to be a huge um, you know, kind of hurdle for us is finding clean products.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: So the brand I'm interviewing today is called Cleo and Cocoa, and I have the wonderful Susanna Raph here with me, who is the founder, and I love this brand because it's really about getting, you know, as natural and clean as you can, and still being able to produce products that are very efficacious when it comes to controlling um, you know, just summertime heat and all the things that come with it.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: So without further ado, please welcome Susanna Raf.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: Welcome to Susanna, I'm so excited to be hosting here.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: Hi there, thank you so much for having me.
- 1:25SPEAKER_01: It's such a pleasure to host you, and I'm so excited to learn about you and obviously the brand, but I'd love for you to get us started by kind of going down um memory lane and just telling us how it all began because the brand is absolutely beautiful.
- 1:39SPEAKER_01: So the audience is gonna hear me, you know, rave about it for like an hour.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: But I want to I want to learn all about you first.
- 1:47SPEAKER_03: Okay, so I um I started Clio and Cocoa because I really felt that there was a very big need in the market for an aluminum-free deodorant that was just a lot more than aluminum-free.
- 2:03SPEAKER_03: Um, I felt that there was a real need for a deodorant that actually worked, but that also provided us with a really beautiful sensory experience.
- 2:12SPEAKER_03: Um I've always been very, very good with scents.
- 2:15SPEAKER_03: I used to mix my own perfumes and I um work with essential oils just um as a hobby for using them therapeutically.
- 2:24SPEAKER_03: And when I was pregnant in nursing, I didn't want to use aluminum under my arms.
- 2:30SPEAKER_03: Um, maybe I was an early adapter because now it's much, much more popular to not want to use aluminum under your arms.
- 2:36SPEAKER_03: But um 10 years ago it wasn't as common and as popular.
- 2:41SPEAKER_03: And the products that I found didn't work for me, but they also didn't smell good and their textures weren't nice, and it was just really, really lacking.
- 2:49SPEAKER_03: And I really felt and I started to just mix my own essential oils just to make a solution for myself.
- 2:56SPEAKER_03: And I actually have a master's in business and I specialize in continuous quality improvement, so I kind of put my business lenses on and said, wow, deodorant is a category that really needs a lot of improvement, and aluminum-free deodorants, especially, can use a lot of improvement.
- 3:13SPEAKER_03: There's just so much more that we can do for our bodies.
- 3:16SPEAKER_03: Um, right, deodorant is a product that we wear every single day from puberty to old age.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:24SPEAKER_03: So I felt, you know, it really needs to be really authentically clean.
- 3:28SPEAKER_03: Um, there's other ingredients besides aluminum that could be dangerous to our health.
- 3:33SPEAKER_03: Synthetic fragrance is one of them.
- 3:35SPEAKER_03: I stopped using perfumes around that time as well.
- 3:38SPEAKER_03: Um and then there's parabens and phthalates, and there's a lot of hidden ingredients that we really don't know about, that we probably shouldn't be putting under our arms, next to our glands, next to breast, delicate breast tissues every single day.
- 3:53SPEAKER_03: But we also want to fight odor.
- 3:57SPEAKER_03: So um it was just very clear that we needed to, I needed, we needed to really revolutionize this category.
- 4:05SPEAKER_03: And that's how Clio and Coco was formed to really come create products that are very authentically clean for your body, but that really, really work to do their job.
- 4:16SPEAKER_03: Really efficacious personal care products, but and like you said, really, really beautiful because our scents are so beautiful, our textures are so beautiful, because again, this is a product that you're putting on your body every single day.
- 4:31SPEAKER_03: It should really be a pleasurable, enjoyable product.
- 4:33SPEAKER_03: It should not be, you know, a three-dollar drugstore product that we don't even think about and apply to our bodies and you know, just because we have to.
- 4:43SPEAKER_03: It really should be a very thoughtful, enjoyable um process when you're putting on your deodorant or putting on any kind of personal care body on such intimate areas of your body.
- 4:55SPEAKER_03: And that's how, so that's how we, you know, we I partnered with top chemists and manufacturers until and we spent over a year on our formula perfecting it so that you really get a very efficacious, beautiful, enjoyable deodorant that does not compromise your health.
- 5:12SPEAKER_03: And and and actually, we do so much more than being um free from, we're really supporting and enhancing your health with the ingredients that we use in in our products.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I absolutely love the line because it's you know, like you said, everything you said, but also um it's very practical, you know, it's a very practical uh like you know, um approach to I think this specific category or niche of body care products.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: I mean, I know that one of my favorite, I mean, the deodorants are amazing, but one of my favorite products is the dry shampoo plus the body powder.
- 5:48SPEAKER_01: I love this product, like I really, really enjoy it because you know, as you're going through your day, especially after you work out or if you're just you know you're busy and you're sweating a lot, you know, it just keeps everything really nice and fresh.
- 6:01SPEAKER_01: And, you know, I think that this is like a very innovative product where you kind of have a combination, you know, you can use it as the dry shampoo, you can use it as a body powder and kind of just refresh yourself, right?
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: It's like refreshing no matter where you use it.
- 6:15SPEAKER_01: So I would love for you to um kind of unpack this for us and where you came up the con uh up with the concept for this one.
- 6:22SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 6:23SPEAKER_03: So the body powder dry shampoo, it's really like a very it's it's just an amazing, unique product.
- 6:30SPEAKER_03: So I am a heavy sweater, which is probably why I was thinking about deodorants all the time.
- 6:36SPEAKER_03: And when I get, after I shower, when I get dressed, when I all my life I always put um baby powder on my body.
- 6:42SPEAKER_03: And then we all are familiar with the baby powder scare and the talc and baby powder.
- 6:48SPEAKER_03: So when that switched over to cornstarch, I was just, you know, mindlessly using cornstarch because I needed something to absorb the sweat on my body before I could get my undergarments on.
- 7:00SPEAKER_03: And um once I started once we started working on formulating deodorant, I had another aha moment and I said, my goodness, you know, this body powder is another product that really, really needs to be improved and you know, really would needs a makeover.
- 7:20SPEAKER_03: And so what we so we sat down with my chemists and we came up with our body powder, which is a talc-free, really clean, authentically clean version of uh body powder baby powder.
- 7:35SPEAKER_03: Um, so it's got instead of cornstarch, we use vegetable powders, it has a little bit of activated charcoal in it.
- 7:42SPEAKER_03: All of our products have activated charcoal because charcoal is just such an incredible ingredient.
- 7:48SPEAKER_03: It just absorbs bacteria and toxins from your body, it absorbs odor so well, and it's so powerful.
- 7:54SPEAKER_03: You need a tiny little drop of it for it to do its job.
- 7:57SPEAKER_03: So we've got um a little bit of charcoal, we've got um clays, you know, from the earth in it, and we've got some essential oils.
- 8:07SPEAKER_03: So it's a really simple, it's a lot of the ingredients, it's all the dry ingredients from our deodorant without any of the butters, is our body powder.
- 8:16SPEAKER_03: So you can use it anywhere on your body.
- 8:18SPEAKER_03: It's incredible to absorb sweat and wetness.
- 8:21SPEAKER_03: Like you said, you can go to the gym or have a sweaty workout and just not have time to shower.
- 8:27SPEAKER_03: And you put that powder on and it absorbs the sweat, it absorbs the wetness, it absorbs the odor.
- 8:32SPEAKER_03: It's fantastic.
- 8:34SPEAKER_03: Everywhere on your body, you can put it instead of deodorant on top of your deodorant, a deodorant from between your legs, a foot deodorant.
- 8:42SPEAKER_03: I have uh my teenagers put it in their shoes and on their feet before they get dressed every morning.
- 8:48SPEAKER_03: It's really all in one.
- 8:50SPEAKER_03: So it was designed originally as a body powder, and then I started to have customers emailing us and telling us, I'm using it in my hair.
- 8:59SPEAKER_03: It's the best dry shampoo.
- 9:01SPEAKER_03: So we actually repackaged it with as a saying dry shampoo body powder, because instead of just creating another product with the same ingredients and calling it a dry shampoo, um, you know, that just does go against the authenticity of our brand.
- 9:17SPEAKER_03: It's the exact same ingredients and product.
- 9:19SPEAKER_03: So let's just, you know, all in one.
- 9:21SPEAKER_03: You've got this one powder that's comes in a non-aerosol pump, and you pump it on your hair, and it's an incredible dry shampoo of adding volume, absorbing oil, and it's an incredible body powder for your whole body.
- 9:35SPEAKER_03: And it's clean, it's clean and it's infective, and they smell great.
- 9:39SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 9:40SPEAKER_01: And you know, I love that you brought up the teenager thing because I was just going to conduct to you.
- 9:44SPEAKER_01: I was like, you know, this is so great for all the moms listening.
- 9:47SPEAKER_01: You know, if you've got, you know, a teenager who plays sports, especially, you know, this is really, really nice to have in their bags because you, like you said, you can put it in their shoes, you can put it like after they work out.
- 9:59SPEAKER_01: I mean, I know that you know, there is a problem, you know, especially with young boys, they're not as hygienic, you know, as as girls are.
- 10:06SPEAKER_01: So it's it's really, really a cool product.
- 10:08SPEAKER_01: I mean, I use it because I mean I'm always busy, you know, going to the hospital, whatever.
- 10:12SPEAKER_01: So it's a really nice way for everyone.
- 10:14SPEAKER_01: It's like for any any category, you know, it's not um, it's not just like for women or men or you know, teens or whatever, it's for everybody.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: And that's one of the things, you know, I that I really love about Air Brand Santa is that it's really about you know efficacy over like branding.
- 10:31SPEAKER_01: And I really, really enjoyed that, and I've been I've been enjoying it more so about indie brands because it's it's really like you discover something so wonderful and you don't have to worry about, oh, is can I you know suggest this to this person or are they gonna like it?
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: And so I want to talk to you about that.
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: You know, when you were coming up with the the packaging, the branding, you know, all of that, how was that process for you and um what really went behind that?
- 10:55SPEAKER_03: So it's a great question.
- 10:56SPEAKER_03: So we we actually launched without our current packaging and just to get to perfect the formula and get customer feedback, and then I spent a year with designers to get our packaging um really right because I felt that we couldn't, I I really wanted the packaging to reflect the quality of the experience and the quality of the ingredients, and that this wasn't, you know, just an aluminum-free version of your typical drugstore deodorant.
- 11:26SPEAKER_03: This is this is just like a very elevated product and experience, and we're kind of we're just taking a commodity and we're making it what it really always should have been, you know, something that is a thoughtful, beautiful, clean, healthy experience that doesn't compromise on your your health or effectiveness.
- 11:46SPEAKER_03: So that was kind of the um, you know, that was that was what I charged the the designers with, you know, giving them that description and said, let's just make the outside reflect the quality of the inside and the experience.
- 12:01SPEAKER_03: And so that's kind of how we got to our logo and our packaging and our branding, um, that the package actually like the colors reflect the scents and um like a lot of little details.
- 12:15SPEAKER_03: It's um the everything on our writing is in actually a charcoal gray color instead of white, because the color of the deodorant inside is a charcoal color because we put a little bit of charcoal in our deodorant.
- 12:30SPEAKER_03: That's what's one of the reasons why it's so incredibly effective.
- 12:34SPEAKER_03: Um, and just to know, even though it's that gorgeous charcoal color, it glides on completely creamy and clear.
- 12:40SPEAKER_03: That was very important in our testing to make sure that it didn't leave any kind of residue on your skin.
- 12:46SPEAKER_03: So, you know, we put a lot of details about um the ingredients are on the package.
- 12:53SPEAKER_03: And for sustainability purposes, we chose not to create an outer box.
- 12:58SPEAKER_03: Um, I didn't think it was necessary to put um the plastic in an outer box and then just have a double layer of cost and and and just you just take that box and you and you throw it out anyways.
- 13:12SPEAKER_03: So we worked very hard to get all of the ingredients and all of the descriptions and all of everything to explain the product on the actual on the actual plastic container instead of um on an in an outer box.
- 13:26SPEAKER_03: And we are switching, uh we're almost in 2023, and 2023 all of our new production will be in completely PCR refillable containers, which is really exciting.
- 13:39SPEAKER_03: So, you know, we're really we're really you know pushing and as an indie brand, I don't think you know, we don't, it's it's it's actually very challenging because it's a much higher cost for us to go much more sustainable in PCR, but it really just aligns with our brand and um you know, better for your body, better for the environment ethos.
- 14:03SPEAKER_01: I love is that you're you don't cut corners, you know, and I think that that's something that's really drawn me more and more to indie brands is that you know their effort and the amount of like thought that goes behind the brand is just way, I think it's just way more authentic, you know, if that makes any sense.
- 14:21SPEAKER_01: Like I I feel like you're I mean you're sitting here telling me, you know, about why you use charcoal, you know.
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: I don't even have to ask you, you know, why is there charcoal?
- 14:28SPEAKER_01: Like a lot of times when I interview huge brands, I have to like really dig and be like, why is this ingredient in here?
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: Why is this in here?
- 14:35SPEAKER_01: But it's like you know your you know your product, you know why you created it and the purpose and where you're headed with it.
- 14:42SPEAKER_01: And I absolutely love that, you know.
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: I think that's what skincare is all about.
- 14:46SPEAKER_01: Like I always say, you know, skincare is not it's not like beauty, it's a s it's a science, you know, there's science in here, and you know, you have to know any scientist, if you go to them and ask them what's your project all about, and they say, Oh, I don't know.
- 15:00SPEAKER_01: You know, like the science community is gonna be like, um, but yeah, that's not okay, you know.
- 15:06SPEAKER_01: So it's it's a very, very thing, you know, interesting thing, and it's very uh near and dear to my heart that you've really gone the extra mile and you're creating products that matter instead of creating products that are just cluttering the space, you know.
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: Like, like I said, the powder, the body powder slash, you know, uh dry shampoos.
- 15:23SPEAKER_01: I it's something I've never seen before.
- 15:25SPEAKER_01: I haven't seen this anywhere else, you know.
- 15:28SPEAKER_01: And so, like that that's the kind of innovation I think that really draws me to brands such as yours.
- 15:33SPEAKER_01: It's just it's unique, it's fresh, it's it's a breath of fresh air, you know, uh for lack of a better term.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, no, absolutely.
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: Um, I would actually dive into really the um the the brands, like I guess focus in the future because the deodorants are wonderful.
- 15:50SPEAKER_01: I mean, I use them.
- 15:51SPEAKER_01: I just wanted to comment before I move on.
- 15:53SPEAKER_01: You know, I use it as my daily deodorant now, and I think um it's very important to highlight what you said, which is the no residue thing.
- 16:00SPEAKER_01: That's a very important aspect for me as a woman of color because um most women of color, if you're listening in, I know you're gonna relate to this.
- 16:08SPEAKER_01: We have this discoloration in our underarm area, and it's very difficult to get rid of that.
- 16:14SPEAKER_01: And once you get rid of it, you don't want to bring it back.
- 16:16SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: And it's especially like during like summer seasons or when you're wearing like, you know, sleeveless shirts or whatever, it's very, very important.
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: And I I realized a long time ago that a lot of the over-the-counter deodorants that I was using, like the big, you know what I mean?
- 16:32SPEAKER_01: Like the huge companies, Susanna, like they were really contributing to this discoloration.
- 16:38SPEAKER_01: Those products were just like really contributing to it.
- 16:40SPEAKER_01: So I've really switched over as well.
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: And it's not so much about you know what goes in my bloodstream, it's about managing that specific, you know, problem that I have as a woman of color, which is discoloration in a in an area that doesn't really see the sun a lot, you know, and it's um it I think that's a very, very important point for anyone listening who suffers from the same problem because it is definitely annoying.
- 17:05SPEAKER_02: Definitely, yeah, yeah.
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, I absolutely love it, and I've been using it every day, and also it goes, it just glides on so beautifully, and it's not like you know, you know how some deodorants like the stick is like it's so tough, and you have to literally almost like rip your skin off when you're putting them on.
- 17:21SPEAKER_01: That's not how yours are.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: Yours are very like your deodorant is very easy to apply, it's very, very, you know, it's gentle, but it's effective, and that's wonderful.
- 17:30SPEAKER_01: It's a wonderful formula.
- 17:31SPEAKER_01: So hats off to you.
- 17:33SPEAKER_03: Thank you.
- 17:33SPEAKER_03: Yep, we put a lot into it to perfect it in all of those areas, and we felt it's it's very, very important for that kind of to have that kind of an experience.
- 17:43SPEAKER_03: But so I'm really glad to hear how much you appreciate it.
- 17:47SPEAKER_01: Oh, absolutely.
- 17:48SPEAKER_01: No, absolutely.
- 17:48SPEAKER_01: I so I want to ask you actually, you know, so where is where's your vision um, you know, for the future for for the brand?
- 17:56SPEAKER_01: Because I know that, you know, uh I'm sure it's going to be something, you know, even more innovative and just brand new products.
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: So are you are you planning on releasing new products in the future or um progress?
- 18:07SPEAKER_03: Yes, of course.
- 18:08SPEAKER_03: We hope to keep expanding our product line and keep innovating in the category.
- 18:13SPEAKER_03: New scents, we're hoping to launch by 2023 spray versions, but not just spray, some you know, some innovative sprays.
- 18:23SPEAKER_03: We've got lots of innovations in fermentation and and fruit acids that um you know balance the body's microbiome.
- 18:32SPEAKER_03: So we're working on um personal deodorant for between the legs and underarm primers to balance the underarm microbiome and to help with the with the skin lightenings and discoloration.
- 18:46SPEAKER_03: Um lots of you know, lots of innovations in ingredients and you know, hoping to put them in um sustainable aluminum instead of plastic packaging.
- 18:59SPEAKER_03: So, you know, definitely stay tuned.
- 19:01SPEAKER_03: We have a lot of you know very authentic, clean, innovative um products.
- 19:07SPEAKER_03: We also have our cleansing bars are really super popular because um, you know, when I that's just another thing, another part of the personal care experience is you know the soap that you use on your body.
- 19:23SPEAKER_03: So um, you know, I wanted a charcoal bar for under the arms to help enhance that whole detox experience.
- 19:32SPEAKER_03: Um, but I didn't, you know, just as a minimalist, and you know, our our our brand is is very minimalist.
- 19:40SPEAKER_03: Um, I wanted, I didn't think it was necessary to have one bar for soap and one bar just for under your arms.
- 19:47SPEAKER_03: So we formulated a cleansing bar that does it all.
- 19:52SPEAKER_03: It um will help detox your underarms and prepare your underarms for natural deodorant, but it's for your whole body.
- 19:59SPEAKER_03: It's got you know high-end skincare ingredients, shea butter, coconut oil, um, coconut milk powder to really just leave your skin so soft and so deeply cleaned.
- 20:11SPEAKER_03: So um those are the types of products that we just want to keep creating.
- 20:17SPEAKER_03: Um, we we really work hard not to just launch a trendy product, but to launch um products that are very innovative and unique and that are gonna add value, not just um take up space.
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: No redundancies.
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: I really love that.
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: And I'm you know, I'm a huge supporter of your brand.
- 20:35SPEAKER_01: I would love for you to come out with like a shower gel though, because I'm not gonna lie, I'm not huge, I'm not a huge like soap bar person just because I that's not my preference, but I know my father is, and I'm I've been giving him all of the soap bars that I get, you know, in my PR.
- 20:50SPEAKER_01: But I I I know that like for me it's it's easier if it's like a shower gel or something like that, but I would love to see that, you know, come out of your your line because everything, like I said, is just such a beautiful formula and it just it's clean, it's efficacious, it's something you want to put on your body, you know, especially in the world we live in now.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: Like we go outside, we're bombarded with ocean, with you know, all this micro trauma.
- 21:14SPEAKER_01: And so whatever we're using at home, it should not be that, you know, and this is for everyone listening.
- 21:20SPEAKER_01: Like, we should not be putting extra trauma on our skin.
- 21:24SPEAKER_01: So, you know, Clio and Cocoa is one of those brands that represents exactly what I'm talking about, which is you know, clean, safe, efficacious products that you can use every single day.
- 21:35SPEAKER_01: And that's really what I really believe that's what every skincare brand should strive for, especially now because consumers are so, you know, aware of what they're spending their money on and rightfully so, you know.
- 21:46SPEAKER_01: Um, and and that's really actually the question I have for you, um, Susanna, is this the price point because you've kept it very reasonable.
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: You know, your products are so um accessible and they're so reasonably priced.
- 21:57SPEAKER_01: Um, how has that been for you as an entrepreneur?
- 21:59SPEAKER_01: You know.
- 22:00SPEAKER_03: um was it something you you knew from the beginning that you were not going to overcharge people or how was how was that whole thought process for you so um yes that was you know it's it's still a commodity item it's a it's still deodorant and I think that um as a deodorant there's just a certain price that customers are comfortable paying and we're still actually on the higher end of that range when it comes to deodorant so if this would have been um any kind of makeup product we would probably be priced four or five times what it is just based on the cost of our ingredients and the cost to produce it um but we just it it just doesn't make sense I can't charge$40 to for a deodorant even if the ingredients call for it because customers won't pay that.
- 22:54SPEAKER_03: So um that's really you know our pricing is just really reflective of um the category and and what customers will pay and the cat it's definitely shifted and gone higher as as you know we're more aware of of ingredients and quality and what's clean and what we're willing to put on.
- 23:14SPEAKER_03: So you're getting you know we have the 2.5 ounces for$18 and it can last you three four months.
- 23:21SPEAKER_03: So you're really getting a very very good value at$18 instead of a maybe an$8 or$12 deodorant that is full of aluminum and doesn't last as long and doesn't have such quality ingredients.
- 23:36SPEAKER_03: That's you know one of the reasons why our conventional products contain a lot of synthetic bad for your body ingredients is to keep the costs down.
- 23:48SPEAKER_03: It's much much cheaper to make a synthetic deodorant you know that it much much cheaper it costs you know pennies so you can charge a lot less but if you really want but we're really shifting all of that and if we're using real quality ingredients I mean just coconut oil, shea butter charcoal um those are some of the I've got vegetable powders those are some of the core ingredients in our deodorants that are every ingredient is like has a has a nurturing good for your body effect um also it's you know antibacterial and efficacious um instead of a synthetic chemical that we we're not sure it's paraben it's you know it it's uh preservatives full full full of preservatives which are are just so dangerous and full of synthetic fragrance which costs pennies to make but you know in the long run could wreak havoc on your body.
- 24:44SPEAKER_03: So that's really the difference.
- 24:46SPEAKER_03: You know so so I'm glad to hear that you think it's at that you feel that we are at a very reasonable price point because that's another thing that we work very very hard for is to be at a very reasonable price point for you know quote unquote deodorant considering the ingredients that are in it.
- 25:06SPEAKER_03: You know I think that I think that the category still needs to shift even higher once people start to recognize that we actually don't want to put you know synthetics and chemicals on our bodies people will pay$40 for a lipstick and a deodorant is 10 times the size of a lipstick and and so much more important or just as important because it's going it's being absorbed into your skin as well.
- 25:33SPEAKER_01: Well another thing I want to point out is if a celebrity came out with a deodorant right now how many people do you know that would pay$40 for it?
- 25:41SPEAKER_01: I know a lot.
- 25:41SPEAKER_01: I know a lot of people that would you know what I mean it's not about like I hear you about the category but I'm it kind of makes me angry because I'm not gonna lie to you I've gone to the store before and purchased a almost$20 deodorant that was from you know my local Target and it was one of the big companies just because it was quote extra strength or great for like when you're working out or whatever but it wasn't really that different from anything else that I've tried.
- 26:07SPEAKER_01: And so you know I think it really depends on like the marketing hype around things and that's something that really for me is very irritating because unfortunately consumers are still getting on board with this idea of okay you know I want things that are good for me.
- 26:22SPEAKER_01: I want things that are efficacious and they're going to last and the thing is for you know$18 20 is not a lot especially with inflation like come on guys you know what I mean like I said like you said you know you'll spend$40 on a lipstick but what about your daily essentials like you know and that's something for me the reason I'm bringing it up so much is because I feel like indie brands get screwed over you know by this industry sometimes because you guys are making such quality products and you're not being able to charge this rightful amount for your product when you really should be you know from a business perspective you know when I look at it I just feel like it's it's a hypocrisy that exists in our industry where it's like I every day I see a new celebrity coming out with a line every day I see their prices and I'm like a hundred and ten dollars for like a bar of soap or or serum or something come on you know why because some so and so's name is stamped on it you know that's not that's not cool you know so it's like people are clearly splurging on these things but you know so yeah it's just close to my heart I I didn't mean to get all excited but you know it's something that I love it I love it I agree with you definitely yeah and I think like especially with the amount of um effort and the amount of like like I said thought and authenticity that goes into products such as yours I don't think we should be you know questioning indie brands for having a like a reasonable price point that's also beneficial to them you know like that's all about entrepreneurship and so yeah everyone listening out there I hope you really really you know kind of start gained a little bit understanding about Cleon Coco through this episode I really want you to go check out the brand like I said I use the deodorant every single day I really love it and I think that if you just you know you give it a try you're gonna get hooked just like I am so really check out the brand I'm gonna tag everything in the flip thought for this episode and Susanna it was so lovely talking to you thank you so much so lovely talking with you as well thank you so much I'm so excited to you know to be doing this um I have a few for everyone listening I have a few more brands that are gonna be on the show that are more so in the indie range but I I'm serious you guys the quality is so there you know so you guys have got to you gotta really invest in these brands if you want to check out uh clear on cocoa the website is www.cle and the word and coco.com so go directly to the website check it out like I said the body powder is phenomenal deodorant phenomenal everything on there is just really great stuff so check them out and yeah I'll be back next time thank you so much thank you bye bye bye hey guys so I hope you love that episode please make sure to hit subscribe if you're tuning in to us on any podcast platform we are available on so many different platforms so wherever it is that you're tuning in just go hit subscribe you will be immediately notified when we publish new episodes this way you're able to tune in to amazing insights from experts brand founders industry leaders authors all the wonderful people that we host and that's very important for me because I love to hear from you guys and really understand what you love and what you want to hear more of.
