- 2:09Speaker 10: on YouTube?
- 2:11Speaker 1: How many followers you got?
- 2:12Speaker 9: Now?
- 2:13Speaker 8: Something?
- 2:14Speaker 1: So you're up from forty eight?
- 2:17Speaker 11: Yeah?
- 2:17Speaker 1: Are they sending you checks yet?
- 2:19Speaker 5: Not yet?
- 2:20Speaker 1: You're not getting monetized? No, what do you gotta do
- 2:22Speaker 1: to be monetized?
- 2:24Speaker 6: I wish I knew?
- 2:26Speaker 2: And what was the original goal from dad? Before you
- 2:29Speaker 2: got the new lego?
- 2:30Speaker 1: Set.
- 2:30Speaker 2: How many followers did you have to.
- 2:32Speaker 8: Get a thousand?
- 2:34Speaker 2: So you whooped it? You went Waybill? Did you have
- 2:36Speaker 2: any accelerators in this contract where you got another Lego
- 2:39Speaker 2: set or anything like that. I got a couple extra
- 2:43Speaker 2: Oh okay, tell us about the Lego set because Phil
- 2:45Speaker 2: is into Legos.
- 2:46Speaker 8: They got some big haunted house mansion. Oh nice, an
- 2:50Speaker 8: easter basket, a little house, and then just a poly
- 2:55Speaker 8: bag of some extra pieces.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Okay, James and Theodore who is the oldest between YouTube?
- 3:00Speaker 2: There's gonna be a lot of pressure on the oldest
- 3:02Speaker 2: in the room. Okay, Teddy, a lot of pressure. James,
- 3:04Speaker 2: are you second oldest in the room? Okay? Rosemary? How
- 3:07Speaker 2: school going for You're about wrapped up as well?
- 3:09Speaker 12: Right?
- 3:09Speaker 11: Yeah, I've brought like like three and a half days
- 3:14Speaker 11: left of school.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Dang, it's a good schedule. Matthew. What do you got
- 3:18Speaker 2: going on this summer? Anything fun?
- 3:20Speaker 11: Well, I don't really know.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Steve hasn't told you about the summer schedule yet.
- 3:25Speaker 6: No.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Okay, we're gonna go to our fish shack for two weeks.
- 3:29Speaker 11: Oh yeah, that's the only thing I remember.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Oh is that coming up soon.
- 3:33Speaker 13: Later?
- 3:33Speaker 2: Yeah? Okay, it'll be a good summer. Now, if you
- 3:36Speaker 2: haven't figured out, today's episode is going to be a
- 3:39Speaker 2: little different. Here's why Catch a Crayfish Count the Stars,
- 3:42Speaker 2: which is meat Eater's first book that's just for kids,
- 3:46Speaker 2: came out yesterday. You can get your copy on the
- 3:48Speaker 2: medeater dot com right now. And in honor of that,
- 3:52Speaker 2: we're recording meat Eater's first game of trivia that's just
- 3:55Speaker 2: for kids. So rather than Steve, Yanni and Brody playing
- 3:59Speaker 2: today going to be these bright young minds they brought
- 4:02Speaker 2: with them instead. Now I want to get to know
- 4:05Speaker 2: our players a little better. So we're going to go
- 4:07Speaker 2: around the room and have them all tell us about
- 4:09Speaker 2: their favorite thing to do in the outdoors. Maybe it's
- 4:12Speaker 2: turkey hunting, or camping, or walleye fishing, we're skiing. We'll
- 4:15Speaker 2: start over here, Conley, what's your favorite thing to do
- 4:17Speaker 2: in the outdoors?
- 4:18Speaker 5: My favorite thing is probably fishing. Fishing for what, uh,
- 4:24Speaker 5: like pike and stuff like that.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Who catches the most fish in the boat?
- 4:29Speaker 12: My dad?
- 4:29Speaker 2: Really? Mhmm?
- 4:31Speaker 1: Is that good?
- 4:32Speaker 2: I don't know much about parenting, but is that goods
- 4:35Speaker 2: catching the most fishing?
- 4:36Speaker 1: They're like, man, this guy's outstanding.
- 4:38Speaker 13: That's the thing I want to be like him.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Uh huh, Hayden, do you agree? Does that Dad catch
- 4:42Speaker 2: the most fish in the boat?
- 4:45Speaker 6: I don't think he catches the most. He does a
- 4:47Speaker 6: lot of helping other people.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Mm hmm. You sold him there. That was a good
- 4:52Speaker 2: help out, Hayden. What's your favorite thing to do in
- 4:54Speaker 2: the outdoors?
- 4:55Speaker 6: I like camping outdoors and fishing.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Camping like in a tent. You guys have a camper.
- 5:00Speaker 6: We have a camper. Sometimes we go on a tent,
- 5:02Speaker 6: like when we can't bring the camper.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Good stuff going over here. Favorite thing to do in
- 5:07Speaker 2: the outdoors.
- 5:08Speaker 4: I really like the horseback ride.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Really, how many times you've been horseback riding?
- 5:13Speaker 4: We're going this summer actually, and I do. I've done
- 5:16Speaker 4: some lessons with some friends and stuff.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Have you ever asked Dad for a horse?
- 5:20Speaker 6: Yes? Multiple times?
- 5:21Speaker 2: How's that conversation? Usually go.
- 5:24Speaker 4: Our land is not it's really steep, and so horses
- 5:27Speaker 4: would not be a good thing to add on our land.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Okay, you know what I think if you guys lived
- 5:31Speaker 2: in a flat pace, I think Dad would say that
- 5:34Speaker 2: your land is too flat and the horses need to
- 5:36Speaker 2: be someplace. It's a little more steep.
- 5:38Speaker 4: My mom said, if we had a better landscape, she
- 5:41Speaker 4: would buy me a horse.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Really. Yeah, okay, get to hold them to that. How
- 5:45Speaker 2: about your favorite thing in the outdoors.
- 5:47Speaker 9: Probably either tree climbing or doing hammocks.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Tree climbing. Your dad likes to climb trees for white tails.
- 5:54Speaker 1: You say, to do hammocks, Mabel, Yeah, make hammocks.
- 5:57Speaker 6: No.
- 5:58Speaker 9: No, I like to swing in hammocks.
- 5:59Speaker 1: And yeah, I got you.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Your property is pretty good for those two things, treat
- 6:04Speaker 2: climbing and hammock swinging.
- 6:06Speaker 9: Yeah, right outside my window there's a lot of aspens
- 6:09Speaker 9: and they're really good climbing trees.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Jimmy favorite thing to do in the outdoors.
- 6:14Speaker 12: So I love hunting and fishing. Those are both probably
- 6:17Speaker 12: two of my favorite things. But lately I've been getting
- 6:20Speaker 12: really into spear fishing, and over the years I like
- 6:23Speaker 12: that because it's like combining hunting and fishing.
- 6:27Speaker 8: Uh.
- 6:28Speaker 12: And there's just something about being able to like swim
- 6:32Speaker 12: and kind of like hunt at the same time. It's
- 6:35Speaker 12: really fun.
- 6:35Speaker 6: I really enjoy that.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Dad.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Was that the expected answer that you thought.
- 6:39Speaker 1: You'd get out? He got two soccer's last night.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Whoa, and those are gonna be turned into fish cakes.
- 6:44Speaker 2: You're gonna smoke them? What's going on?
- 6:45Speaker 12: Fishcakes?
- 6:46Speaker 1: Fish cakes? Tonight, Teddy?
- 6:47Speaker 2: Favorite thing to do in the outdoors, I.
- 6:51Speaker 8: Really liked to camp and then I also.
- 6:53Speaker 13: Like to fish.
- 6:54Speaker 2: A right on, Well, I think you'll do well in trivia.
- 6:56Speaker 2: Then if you like camping and fishing, Rosemary. Favorite thing
- 6:59Speaker 2: in the out doors.
- 7:01Speaker 11: There's like a lot of things like I really like
- 7:04Speaker 11: hockey and skiing, and then when Innan Mabel brought up
- 7:08Speaker 11: climbing trees and riding horses.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Yeah, but if you're picking one, what do you think
- 7:13Speaker 2: it would be?
- 7:14Speaker 11: Well, either skiing or hockey.
- 7:15Speaker 2: I think Okay, Matthew, what would you say your favorite
- 7:19Speaker 2: thing to do in the outdoors is?
- 7:22Speaker 9: Well, I like soccer and I like skiing.
- 7:26Speaker 2: Good answers, Matthew, How many times I think Steve Pinch
- 7:32Speaker 2: will give you that answer?
- 7:34Speaker 4: No?
- 7:34Speaker 1: I know I can't win them all.
- 7:38Speaker 2: All right, you guys ready to play trivia? You feel
- 7:40Speaker 2: like you're you're ready for this?
- 7:42Speaker 14: Okay?
- 7:42Speaker 2: Now, I tested these questions on four of my nieces
- 7:46Speaker 2: and nephews, who range in age from eight to thirteen
- 7:50Speaker 2: years old. Their average score was six point four. But
- 7:54Speaker 2: don't turn off the show if you're not listening with kids,
- 7:57Speaker 2: because today's game isn't just for them. Also tested these
- 8:00Speaker 2: on my wife, who is twenty eight years old, and
- 8:03Speaker 2: she got eight correct answers. So maybe if you're an
- 8:06Speaker 2: adult listener who likes the outdoors but isn't a strong
- 8:09Speaker 2: performer at Meat Eater Trivia, than today's round will be
- 8:13Speaker 2: more to your liking. And with that, we're onto the
- 8:16Speaker 2: game of trivia. Play the drop, Phil, Look, I need
- 8:21Speaker 2: to know what I stand to win everything?
- 8:24Speaker 1: How's that? Just tend to win everything?
- 8:34Speaker 4: Gamon Suckers.
- 8:37Speaker 2: We have never had the person in the room who
- 8:39Speaker 2: says game on Suckers. Can you give us one that's
- 8:41Speaker 2: live in person? Rosemary? Gamon Suckers sounded just like.
- 8:46Speaker 10: We had a guy out. We got a guy at
- 8:48Speaker 10: the local sledding hill. Recognize her voice?
- 8:51Speaker 2: How'd that conversation go? Rosemary? This this random stranger, just
- 8:54Speaker 2: can't you give me okay and recognize your voice?
- 8:59Speaker 11: Well, he recognized my dad and then he recognized my voice.
- 9:03Speaker 2: You do it. Well. We're very fortunate to have you
- 9:06Speaker 2: doing the game on Suckers for us. Question one, the
- 9:10Speaker 2: topic is fishing, and like all of them on this episode.
- 9:14Speaker 2: It will be multiple choice. What's the longest river in
- 9:18Speaker 2: North America? Is it the Yellowstone, the Amazon, or the Missouri.
- 9:26Speaker 2: What's the longest river in North America? Is it the Yellowstone,
- 9:31Speaker 2: the Amazon, or the Missouri.
- 9:34Speaker 9: What if we don't know how to spell it.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Spelling doesn't matter. You just get close enough so that
- 9:40Speaker 2: I can read your boarding stone.
- 9:43Speaker 12: That's a good thing because the other day I was
- 9:46Speaker 12: doing a science project. No English leg Well.
- 9:52Speaker 1: He'll appreciate this, you know.
- 9:53Speaker 10: His science project was about azik One, very cool, and.
- 10:00Speaker 12: We were learning about him, and my dad he's like,
- 10:04Speaker 12: all right, He's like, miney. I'm like, I don't I
- 10:06Speaker 12: can't spell very well. He's like, you're getting a lesson
- 10:08Speaker 12: right now. And we get to the word America.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Can't sell his own damn country.
- 10:13Speaker 13: I am.
- 10:16Speaker 12: So bad, and my dad said. My dad said, I'm
- 10:19Speaker 12: I am going to ground you for life if you
- 10:22Speaker 12: cannot spell the country you live in. And that was
- 10:26Speaker 12: the luckiest thing that's ever happened to me, that I
- 10:28Speaker 12: got that right, because I didn't know.
- 10:30Speaker 10: I switcher from Amar And in a moment of genius,
- 10:34Speaker 10: when face of being ground to the rest of his life, he's.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Like you can remind Dad you live in a generation
- 10:42Speaker 2: of spell checker, so you don't have to learn how
- 10:44Speaker 2: to Yeah, Yeah, Does everybody have an answer for what
- 10:48Speaker 2: is the longest river in North America? Go ahead and
- 10:52Speaker 2: reveal your answers. We have Conley saying Amazon, Hayden saying Missouri,
- 11:00Speaker 2: Aina saying Missouri, Mabel saying Yellowstone, Jimmy saying which one,
- 11:06Speaker 2: Jimmy are we saying? Jimmy sang Yellowstone, Teddy sang Missouri,
- 11:11Speaker 2: Rosy sang Missouri, Matthew sang Amazon. The correct answer is
- 11:18Speaker 2: the Missouri. A few folks got it right. At two thousand,
- 11:23Speaker 2: three hundred and fifty miles long, the Missouri is the
- 11:26Speaker 2: longest river on the continent. That's followed by the Mississippi
- 11:30Speaker 2: River and Yukon River. The Missouri and Mississippi together create
- 11:34Speaker 2: the fourth longest river in the world, behind the Nile,
- 11:38Speaker 2: Amazon and yang Ze.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Can I tidbit on top of that?
- 11:44Speaker 10: Uh one, they messed up the Mississippi flows into the Missouri,
- 11:54Speaker 10: and then was that?
- 11:56Speaker 13: I said, everybody knows that.
- 11:57Speaker 1: Now.
- 11:57Speaker 10: The other little tidbit I'll provide here is that the
- 12:00Speaker 10: Yellowstone is what spencer.
- 12:02Speaker 2: The longest undamned river yep, longest the country.
- 12:06Speaker 10: Or the longest freestone river in the lower forty eight.
- 12:09Speaker 2: The Lower Conley.
- 12:10Speaker 3: Why'd you get that one wrong?
- 12:11Speaker 10: Do you think?
- 12:12Speaker 3: Look at the question? Where's the Amazon?
- 12:17Speaker 2: South America? South America? Different continent? Who in this room
- 12:21Speaker 2: is fishing the Missouri River? I'd bet dang near all
- 12:24Speaker 2: of you. Every hand went up when I asked that.
- 12:28Speaker 1: We're fishing the Missouri the day Chester's baby was born.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Wow, it's too little to be here today. But about
- 12:34Speaker 2: a decade when you do this again. Question two, the
- 12:37Speaker 2: topic is hunting. What is the name for an immature
- 12:43Speaker 2: male turkey? Is it a Jake, a Johnny, or a Joey?
- 12:49Speaker 2: What is the name for an immature male turkey? Jake,
- 12:55Speaker 2: Johnny or Joey? I bet some of you would have
- 12:59Speaker 2: gotten this without even having choices. How are the Tellist
- 13:02Speaker 2: girls going to do? Are you both going to get
- 13:03Speaker 2: this one right? You think, yes, okay, they're confident. How
- 13:07Speaker 2: about the Henderson clan? Are you guys going to get
- 13:09Speaker 2: this one right? You think? I think so, okay, pretty confident.
- 13:12Speaker 2: This side of the room was also confident. We may
- 13:15Speaker 2: have one hundred percent of our players getting this one right,
- 13:19Speaker 2: get that, Teddy, you don't have this one shake and
- 13:22Speaker 2: has had I can't tell if he shaking has had
- 13:23Speaker 2: that he won't get there that he disagrees with.
- 13:25Speaker 8: Bit for you, I'm getting it.
- 13:27Speaker 1: Teddy raises turkeys. Now.
- 13:30Speaker 10: Listen, we went over there one time to get two turkeys,
- 13:33Speaker 10: and we got our two turkeys. And you know what
- 13:35Speaker 10: those two turkeys weighed combined. I am not joking. Tell
- 13:39Speaker 10: them what those turkeys weighed.
- 13:40Speaker 12: I think it was sixty pounds.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Wow, No, they were each fifty pounds.
- 13:46Speaker 2: My goodness.
- 13:47Speaker 1: I told him it was on Thanksgiving. I told his dad,
- 13:49Speaker 1: I want to come and get it for Christmas. Dad said,
- 13:51Speaker 1: you wait till Christmas. They're not gonna fit in your oven.
- 13:53Speaker 12: And it was so funny because when we were just
- 13:57Speaker 12: I was just shoot him with this twenty two, and
- 13:59Speaker 12: I shot with the twenty two. I was like, well,
- 14:01Speaker 12: grab it around the neck, and this thing's neck is huge.
- 14:06Speaker 1: Can't get your hand around.
- 14:07Speaker 12: You can't fit his head around. He's like, well, stomp
- 14:08Speaker 12: on it. I couldn't stomp on it either, because all
- 14:10Speaker 12: the other turkeys in the pen are trying to beat
- 14:12Speaker 12: the crap out of this thing. So my dad had
- 14:14Speaker 12: a comment like tackle it and get it in the
- 14:17Speaker 12: back of the car.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Quite the turkey harvest, Teddy, those are some massive birds.
- 14:20Speaker 2: You feed those things.
- 14:21Speaker 1: Lead or what? I have no clue.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Okay, did everybody have an answer to a jake, a Johnny,
- 14:27Speaker 2: or a Joey? Go ahead and reveal your answers. We
- 14:31Speaker 2: have Conley saying a joey, Hayden saying a jake. Aina
- 14:36Speaker 2: and Mabel and Jimmy sang a jake, Teddy sang a jake,
- 14:41Speaker 2: Rosie sang a jake, and Matthew sang a jake.
- 14:45Speaker 1: They got it.
- 14:46Speaker 2: The correct answer was a jake. A mature male is
- 14:50Speaker 2: called a tom, immature female is called a hen. An
- 14:54Speaker 2: immature male is called a jake, and immature female is
- 14:57Speaker 2: called a jenny. A chick is called a poult. In
- 15:01Speaker 2: a group of turkeys is called a flock rafter or
- 15:05Speaker 2: a gang. Who in this room has shot a jake
- 15:07Speaker 2: turkey before a few of you? Was the jake that
- 15:10Speaker 2: you shot Teddy's bird? Or you shot a jake that
- 15:13Speaker 2: that wasn't raised on lead?
- 15:15Speaker 12: I've shot a couple jakes in the wild.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Okay, tell me you got rose last year?
- 15:23Speaker 11: Oh?
- 15:25Speaker 1: Was Mommy's nickname.
- 15:28Speaker 11: It viewed him.
- 15:29Speaker 2: That's great. Rarest in all, okay, bearded. Question three, The
- 15:35Speaker 2: topic is conservation. This is an audio question. Phil is
- 15:39Speaker 2: going to play you one minute of a song, and
- 15:42Speaker 2: you need to tell me what movie that song is from.
- 15:46Speaker 2: Take it away, Phil. Cannot be, I'm just doing what
- 15:54Speaker 2: comes that for THEE.
- 15:56Speaker 13: Cannot be. I'm just following my destiny.
- 16:00Speaker 2: How bad cannot be? I'm just doing what comes.
- 16:06Speaker 10: Cannot be?
- 16:07Speaker 1: Bad?
- 16:08Speaker 2: Can possible? You know this one, Conley, I don't think
- 16:10Speaker 2: your dad would get this.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Would the choices the trolls, the Lorax or Shrek?
- 16:17Speaker 14: This?
- 16:26Speaker 12: I haven't seen any of these, lunch.
- 16:33Speaker 2: I'm just saying, how bad, grandy? You know this one?
- 16:37Speaker 13: Doing what comes that?
- 16:40Speaker 2: Okay? Don't help anybody. Your choices are trolls, the Lower
- 16:47Speaker 2: Axe or Shrek. You need to tell me what movie
- 16:50Speaker 2: that song is from.
- 16:52Speaker 1: I can tell I don't have it. She's got to
- 16:54Speaker 1: think it through. Maybel you on it?
- 17:00Speaker 2: Oh man, Yanni, would you get this one right? Okay?
- 17:03Speaker 2: Brody wouldn't have got Steve? Would you get this one right?
- 17:06Speaker 4: No?
- 17:06Speaker 1: Man? Earlier with the Lorax book, but it doesn't have
- 17:09Speaker 1: the tunes in it conservation.
- 17:11Speaker 2: The topic is conservation.
- 17:13Speaker 8: Who okay?
- 17:20Speaker 12: Answer away?
- 17:22Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 17:25Speaker 2: Does everybody have an answer?
- 17:27Speaker 7: Steve usually does when someone gives away the answer like that, minds.
- 17:34Speaker 13: Funny noise because I don't have an answer.
- 17:36Speaker 11: But then when he said that, I changed my answers.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Well, no, because that's what he's supposed to say. They
- 17:44Speaker 1: doesn't make the connection.
- 17:45Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Conley saying Lorix,
- 17:49Speaker 2: Hayden saying Lorax, Aina saying Lorax, Mabel saying Lorax. Everybody
- 17:55Speaker 2: said the Lorax. Everybody got it right. Lorax was the care.
- 18:01Speaker 9: Yeah, same, I was gonna say, I I.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Me me. Ball Man had lower Ax from the start.
- 18:10Speaker 12: Really, the reason I know it's from the Lorax is
- 18:13Speaker 12: the one reason I don't know how I keep hearing it,
- 18:16Speaker 12: But it's isn't the song Let It Die, Let It Die.
- 18:21Speaker 12: That's the one thing I know that just reminded me
- 18:24Speaker 12: of it for some reason.
- 18:25Speaker 2: The conservations Steve helping out the room. The lower Ax
- 18:28Speaker 2: movie came out in twenty twelve, and it's based on
- 18:31Speaker 2: Doctor Seuss's children's book of the same name from nineteen
- 18:35Speaker 2: seventy one. The book and movie deliver a message of conservation,
- 18:39Speaker 2: with the original version directly calling out how polluted Lake
- 18:43Speaker 2: Erie was in the nineteen sixties. Here's what the lower
- 18:46Speaker 2: ax had to say when the humming fish couldn't survive
- 18:49Speaker 2: anymore because a factory was polluting their water. Quote, Oh,
- 18:54Speaker 2: their future is dreary. I hear things are just as
- 18:57Speaker 2: bad up in Lake Erie. So a few of you
- 19:00Speaker 2: have seen the Lorex. Have any of you read it?
- 19:03Speaker 2: I feel like it's a popular book on Earth Day.
- 19:05Speaker 4: I have definitely read it. I think I've watched like
- 19:06Speaker 4: one of the older, older versions, but I've never watched
- 19:09Speaker 4: almost of them.
- 19:09Speaker 6: I've read this.
- 19:10Speaker 13: Song in a book, in a movie, this one that
- 19:13Speaker 13: you've played.
- 19:14Speaker 7: It must be from a new version, right, that songs
- 19:16Speaker 7: not in the version that we watched as kids.
- 19:18Speaker 2: The twenty twelve. I think that was Ed Helms that
- 19:20Speaker 2: sings that which Yanni you are a fan of. You've
- 19:23Speaker 2: declared before and you didn't know that. Answer question four.
- 19:28Speaker 2: The topic is cooking. How many ounces are in a pound?
- 19:34Speaker 2: Is it sixteen twelve or ten? How many ounces are
- 19:40Speaker 2: in a pound sixteen twelve or ten? You got this one, Rosemary.
- 19:49Speaker 11: Well, I mean we like studied it for like three
- 19:52Speaker 11: months and.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Still you go slow lers if it took you three
- 19:55Speaker 1: months then to figure that out.
- 19:56Speaker 11: No, we were just like doing different stuff with it.
- 19:59Speaker 11: But I still don't know this again.
- 20:00Speaker 2: How many ounces are in a pound? Sixteen, twelve or ten?
- 20:10Speaker 2: Is everybody ready?
- 20:11Speaker 13: This is more stressful than is it?
- 20:14Speaker 12: One second?
- 20:14Speaker 13: You know?
- 20:15Speaker 2: I think on our trophy we will give a a
- 20:18Speaker 2: win to whoever's child comes away with a victory. Joannis
- 20:23Speaker 2: and Brody only brought in two kids each show. Steve
- 20:25Speaker 2: double them up, brought in four.
- 20:29Speaker 1: I can't tell you what it is, dude.
- 20:32Speaker 2: That's a good strategy, though, Matthew, I think that means
- 20:35Speaker 2: your dad doesn't know. Is everybody ready? Go ahead and
- 20:39Speaker 2: reveal your answers. We have Conley saying twelve, Hayden saying sixteen,
- 20:44Speaker 2: Aina and Mabel saying sixteen. Jimmy sang ten, Teddy sang sixteen,
- 20:50Speaker 2: Rosie saying sixteen, and Matthew sang sixteen.
- 20:54Speaker 1: They got it.
- 20:55Speaker 2: The correct answer is sixteen.
- 20:56Speaker 12: I had that down.
- 20:57Speaker 15: If you can remember that there are sixteen dry ounces
- 21:08Speaker 15: in a pound, then you can also remember that there
- 21:10Speaker 15: are sixteen fluid ounces in a pint.
- 21:13Speaker 2: All you have to do is memorize this phrase. Quote
- 21:16Speaker 2: a pints a pound the world around. That means that
- 21:20Speaker 2: both a pint and a pound have the same amount
- 21:23Speaker 2: of ounces sounds.
- 21:25Speaker 1: British points a pound world around.
- 21:28Speaker 2: That's why they say the rhyme is so good you'll
- 21:31Speaker 2: remember it no matter where you're at. Question five, the
- 21:34Speaker 2: topic is wildlife. What kind of animal is Pucksatani Phil?
- 21:39Speaker 2: Is it a woodchuck, a prairie dog or a cappy bara?
- 21:45Speaker 2: What kind of animal is puck Satani Phil, woodchuck, prairie
- 21:50Speaker 2: dog or cappy barra? Phil? Was it tough being named Phil?
- 21:55Speaker 2: When Pucksatani Phil was relevant? Once a year?
- 21:59Speaker 13: Oh?
- 22:00Speaker 14: Every groundhog Day was was like a second birthday?
- 22:02Speaker 1: Really?
- 22:03Speaker 13: No, not at all.
- 22:04Speaker 2: Okay, Phil helped him out there, he said, groundhog Day,
- 22:08Speaker 2: that wasn't the question. But again, what kind of animal
- 22:11Speaker 2: is puck Satani Phil, woodchuck, prairie dog or cappy bara?
- 22:18Speaker 2: Did anybody know this one? Right off the bat? There
- 22:23Speaker 2: not a very confident.
- 22:24Speaker 13: Room, Katie.
- 22:26Speaker 7: How are you doing so far? Have you gotten everyone?
- 22:29Speaker 7: You have a perfect game going.
- 22:31Speaker 16: I was just a silent observer and you've you've blown
- 22:33Speaker 16: my cover. Yes, I've gotten every single one honest, really no,
- 22:38Speaker 16: I didn't know the lorix.
- 22:39Speaker 2: Oh you didn't. What about after Steve's hint? Did that
- 22:42Speaker 2: help you or h Yeah, he gave.
- 22:48Speaker 1: I didn't do any.
- 22:53Speaker 17: But never said they never said the songs in it,
- 22:58Speaker 17: literally giving away the I.
- 23:01Speaker 1: Didn't say that.
- 23:04Speaker 2: I said that it's too bad this isn't recorded, so
- 23:06Speaker 2: he can't go back and and pin down.
- 23:09Speaker 13: Just exactly thought that.
- 23:10Speaker 7: His hint was when I thought, what tipped you off?
- 23:13Speaker 11: Yeah?
- 23:13Speaker 13: He said, oh.
- 23:16Speaker 7: Said that he said it once, but then you you beginning.
- 23:21Speaker 4: Because he was like, this is a wildlife or conservation.
- 23:24Speaker 13: You repeated it with much enthusiasm.
- 23:27Speaker 10: He said conservation, to which I said something like oh
- 23:34Speaker 10: or something.
- 23:34Speaker 2: Like that sounds let's not give it away. I mean,
- 23:37Speaker 2: does everybody have an answer for what kind of animal?
- 23:40Speaker 2: Puck satani phil Is, go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 23:45Speaker 2: We have Conley saying Woodchuck, Hayden and Aana and Mabels
- 23:50Speaker 2: and Jimmy saying woodchuck. Teddy says prairie dog, Rosie says
- 23:54Speaker 2: prairie dog. Matthew says, what's that? Saying Matthew, you can't
- 23:58Speaker 2: quite read it from here? What's it saying capybara. The
- 24:01Speaker 2: correct answer is a woodchuck did pretty well. Puksatani Phil
- 24:08Speaker 2: is a marmot, but is more commonly referred to as
- 24:11Speaker 2: a groundhog or woodchuck. According to the Pucksatani Phil Groundhog Club,
- 24:16Speaker 2: he lives at Gobbler's Knob and is named after King Philip.
- 24:20Speaker 2: They claim he's the same groundhog that's been forecasting weather
- 24:24Speaker 2: since eighteen eighty six, and he gets his longevity from
- 24:28Speaker 2: drinking the elixir of life. He's married to Phyllis, but
- 24:32Speaker 2: she hasn't drank the potion, so she's not immortal like Phil.
- 24:37Speaker 2: Do you guys do anything at school for Groundhog Day?
- 24:40Speaker 14: No?
- 24:40Speaker 18: No, We've watched it quite a few times, but I've
- 24:43Speaker 18: never done anything more than.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Just watch it. You think it's legit? Do you think
- 24:46Speaker 2: he knows if it's going to be a long spring
- 24:49Speaker 2: or a long winter? No buying it.
- 24:51Speaker 1: You don't ask him.
- 24:52Speaker 6: We don't do anything.
- 24:53Speaker 9: He'll ask him.
- 24:54Speaker 1: It has to do with what happens when he comes out. Sure,
- 24:57Speaker 1: we watch, he doesn't make the call.
- 24:59Speaker 2: There's obviously some magic there if he's like drank from
- 25:01Speaker 2: the Fountain of Youth.
- 25:05Speaker 3: We also lived in Pennsylvania, never heard this Fountain Youth stuff.
- 25:09Speaker 2: Once. You gotta go to the pusatani Phill Groundhog Club website.
- 25:14Speaker 2: That's where they have all the f a ques about
- 25:17Speaker 2: the marmot.
- 25:18Speaker 7: Did I hear it correctly that a woodchuck and a
- 25:20Speaker 7: marmot are the same thing?
- 25:22Speaker 2: Yeah, woodchuck, rock chuck. They're all marmots.
- 25:27Speaker 10: Whatever he calls it, rock chuck. Here is a yellow
- 25:31Speaker 10: bellied marmot.
- 25:34Speaker 7: Right, But I felt like back East there's a different
- 25:36Speaker 7: critter high their species.
- 25:38Speaker 3: Of ground squirrel each but I don't know that they're
- 25:40Speaker 3: the same same exact species.
- 25:43Speaker 2: I feel like marmot, woodchuck, rock chuck, they're all used interchangeably.
- 25:47Speaker 13: No they're not. No, no, no, no, you never like you
- 25:50Speaker 13: don't call it woodchuck.
- 25:52Speaker 2: I'm saying it like marmots. We're halfway through the game
- 25:56Speaker 2: of we can't let this go. What do you want
- 25:59Speaker 2: to know?
- 26:00Speaker 13: Woodchuck is not.
- 26:00Speaker 3: The same as a marmot for two different visits, they're not.
- 26:04Speaker 2: No, they're the same thing.
- 26:05Speaker 13: I think.
- 26:06Speaker 2: I think though, like there are types of marmots.
- 26:09Speaker 3: Yellow belly marmots do not live in Pennsylvania.
- 26:12Speaker 2: They are woodchucks. We can revisit this later. Phil, we
- 26:17Speaker 2: are halfway through the game of trivia. I see we
- 26:20Speaker 2: have Steve googling something. We should get an answer soon.
- 26:23Speaker 2: What does the scoreboard look like?
- 26:25Speaker 14: We've got Conley with two points, Matthew and Jimmy both
- 26:30Speaker 14: have three, Mabel, Rosie and Teddy all have four, and
- 26:35Speaker 14: tied up with a perfect gamerer Aina and Hayden with
- 26:38Speaker 14: five points.
- 26:39Speaker 2: Wow.
- 26:40Speaker 13: Do you know what.
- 26:40Speaker 2: Happens if we have a perfect game? We double the donation,
- 26:43Speaker 2: so instead of a five hundred dollars donation, it'll be
- 26:46Speaker 2: one thousand dollars donation. A lot of pressure. Oh oh, oh, Damie.
- 26:54Speaker 2: What's the problem?
- 26:56Speaker 10: Well, groundhogs and marmot. Groundhogs are slightly larger and or
- 27:02Speaker 10: less colorful in addition yellow, so we have two marmots,
- 27:04Speaker 10: and there's two marmots in the west hoary and yellow bellied.
- 27:09Speaker 10: Yellow bellied marmots are in the western US. Groundhogs are
- 27:13Speaker 10: more widespread, so it might be like, uh, I don't
- 27:18Speaker 10: know if it can.
- 27:19Speaker 1: Well, we'll dig into it further. You can do a
- 27:20Speaker 1: craction later. I don't know if it's entirely.
- 27:24Speaker 10: Can if it's entirely just regional variations on the same thing.
- 27:28Speaker 2: When you google it. This is from the Audubon Society.
- 27:31Speaker 2: Is a woodchuck a Marmot that says the woodchuck belongs
- 27:34Speaker 2: to the Marmott family goes by many names, including groundhog, whistlepig.
- 27:41Speaker 8: Go.
- 27:41Speaker 1: I believe you.
- 27:51Speaker 2: Question six, the topic is hunting. Which one of these
- 27:56Speaker 2: states has a hunting season for alligator? Is it Kentucky,
- 28:02Speaker 2: Georgia or New York? Which of these states has a
- 28:08Speaker 2: hunting season for alligators? Kentucky, Georgia or New York.
- 28:17Speaker 16: Since I'm I'm here, I want to just say that
- 28:19Speaker 16: you guys are all doing such a good job.
- 28:22Speaker 2: Doing very well, two perfect games halfway through and a
- 28:25Speaker 2: lot of folks with only one or two wrong.
- 28:28Speaker 16: And Conley, you were going to say something earlier, honey,
- 28:30Speaker 16: what were you going to say? It was about something
- 28:33Speaker 16: about seeing the groundhog.
- 28:35Speaker 5: Maybe we've seen it, but like it was like a
- 28:40Speaker 5: week after it actually happened.
- 28:44Speaker 2: Was this forecast right? Was it cold? Was it hot?
- 28:46Speaker 2: How did that go? Do you remember? I'm not sure.
- 28:50Speaker 12: My grandma has got me a subscription to The Week
- 28:53Speaker 12: Junior for my birthday I think two years ago now,
- 28:57Speaker 12: and they had a groundhog issue, not like a problem,
- 29:03Speaker 12: but like a.
- 29:04Speaker 14: Story in there.
- 29:05Speaker 12: Yeah, special edition, and so that he's only been right
- 29:10Speaker 12: like the time.
- 29:13Speaker 2: Go dang, yeah, try that hard to be that wrong, Steven.
- 29:17Speaker 1: Matthew had a question for you.
- 29:18Speaker 2: He just asked me, what do you got? Matthew?
- 29:21Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 29:22Speaker 1: You don't want to say. He whispered me.
- 29:24Speaker 19: Do you get money if you win.
- 29:29Speaker 6: Thousand?
- 29:30Speaker 2: Yeah, you get to choose where some money goes. So
- 29:33Speaker 2: Meat Eater, where we all work, is going to give
- 29:35Speaker 2: a donation to a conservation organization. Sell Matthew, if you.
- 29:39Speaker 1: Pick who gets the money, but you can't pick you.
- 29:41Speaker 2: Maybe you really like turkeys, so you win this game.
- 29:44Speaker 2: You're going to decide that five hundred dollars goes to
- 29:46Speaker 2: a group that does a lot of work with turkeys.
- 29:49Speaker 2: You can think about that while we play, well where
- 29:51Speaker 2: your donation will go? Does everybody have any answer?
- 29:53Speaker 12: I don't know, if.
- 29:55Speaker 2: We'll see never know. Does everybody have an answer about what?
- 29:58Speaker 2: Which state has a hunting season for alligators? Go ahead
- 30:04Speaker 2: and reveal your answers. We have Conley sang Georgia, Georgia, Georgia, Georgia, Georgia,
- 30:11Speaker 2: Rosie saying Kentucky. Matthew sang Georgia. The room did well.
- 30:17Speaker 2: The answer is Georgia. Some of the other states with
- 30:20Speaker 2: gator seasons include Florida, Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana, North Carolina,
- 30:27Speaker 2: South Carolina, and Texas. During the twenty twenty two season,
- 30:31Speaker 2: in Georgia, hunters harvested three hundred and ninety gators, which
- 30:35Speaker 2: was one shy of the record that they set in
- 30:38Speaker 2: twenty twenty one.
- 30:39Speaker 1: Matthew, how can you walk me through how you.
- 30:43Speaker 10: Arrived at your answer, which was correct, which is Georgia.
- 30:47Speaker 1: What did you what were you thinking about?
- 30:49Speaker 17: I was just thinking about like what the place is
- 30:52Speaker 17: like in my head looked like it would be a
- 30:54Speaker 17: place that where they would have like alliot or hunting,
- 30:58Speaker 17: and like I just thought, like Kentucky wouldn't have that,
- 31:01Speaker 17: And I thought the only one I thought was Georgia,
- 31:04Speaker 17: because like, in my head, it just looks like a
- 31:06Speaker 17: place that it would.
- 31:08Speaker 2: God good reasoning, and he has crocs on his feet.
- 31:11Speaker 2: Gives you kind of a reptilian advantage there, Matthew. Question seven,
- 31:17Speaker 2: the topic is cooking. How many wishbones does a turkey have? One,
- 31:24Speaker 2: two or five? How many wishbones? Does a turkey have one, two,
- 31:33Speaker 2: or five? Steve, when you brought that turkey home from Teddy,
- 31:39Speaker 2: did the wishbone come with it? He doesn't it? Okay,
- 31:44Speaker 2: the whole turkey came with it. We can talk about
- 31:45Speaker 2: the wishbone situation after Yanni. Was there a wishbone or
- 31:49Speaker 2: two or three or five in their Prutelli's household this
- 31:53Speaker 2: last Thanksgiving?
- 31:56Speaker 13: Keep it rolling, Spencer, Yes, yes there was.
- 32:01Speaker 7: All ours had a number of wishbones in them.
- 32:06Speaker 2: Does everybody have an answer for the number of wishbones
- 32:09Speaker 2: a turkey has one, two or five? Go ahead and
- 32:12Speaker 2: reveal your answers. We have Calmly saying two, Hayden saying one,
- 32:19Speaker 2: and Mabel saying one, Jimmy saying one.
- 32:21Speaker 19: Ting like period, you kind of ran out of steam
- 32:27Speaker 19: on your one, Rosy sang one, and Matthew saying two.
- 32:34Speaker 2: The correct answer is one.
- 32:38Speaker 18: If there's ever been a wishbone in the turkey, say more.
- 32:41Speaker 12: You just said, is there a was?
- 32:43Speaker 2: Was there?
- 32:43Speaker 4: Did it come with?
- 32:44Speaker 2: The wishbone?
- 32:46Speaker 13: Is usually smoother? Has him on the edge. I think
- 32:50Speaker 13: he's ever been around this many young people? You know
- 32:52Speaker 13: what that?
- 32:54Speaker 2: I was more stressed writing these questions that I am
- 32:56Speaker 2: for a regular batch or tournament episode, any of that.
- 33:00Speaker 2: Very very important to me that this was fun, that
- 33:03Speaker 2: he's made sense, just messed up there.
- 33:06Speaker 7: I want to I want to ask, yeah, kids, are
- 33:09Speaker 7: you guys having are you guys all having fun?
- 33:11Speaker 12: Yeah?
- 33:12Speaker 2: Is this better than school? Or is this like, oh,
- 33:13Speaker 2: you gotta go, we gotta go do? Okay?
- 33:16Speaker 11: I would, I would, I would.
- 33:18Speaker 3: Sensor doing a good job hosting.
- 33:23Speaker 2: He nodded his head.
- 33:26Speaker 1: Spencer's hosting one.
- 33:29Speaker 2: Okay, what we agreed on was fine.
- 33:33Speaker 1: It could be worse a lot of right.
- 33:36Speaker 2: How does the wishbone usually go over in the Ptelius household? Yanni,
- 33:39Speaker 2: can you tell us about what it's like when that
- 33:42Speaker 2: comes out?
- 33:43Speaker 13: Honestly?
- 33:44Speaker 7: Good thing you didn't ask my kids or the question
- 33:46Speaker 7: wasn't what do you do with the wishbone?
- 33:48Speaker 13: Because I don't think that we've actually okay, that's the only.
- 33:57Speaker 2: Just throw the rest out, Okay, I assume that there
- 34:00Speaker 2: is like some extra pagan wrestling that happens when a
- 34:03Speaker 2: wishbone comes out.
- 34:04Speaker 7: Now you hold up to your lights as there's been
- 34:08Speaker 7: to our house for the Christmas Celebrati holiday.
- 34:12Speaker 13: New Year celebration.
- 34:13Speaker 2: Very good time. The fercula or wishbone, is found in
- 34:17Speaker 2: most birds and some dinosaurs. The purpose of the unique
- 34:21Speaker 2: bone is to strengthen the chest during flight. The tradition
- 34:25Speaker 2: of breaking the wishbone dates back to the fourteen hundreds
- 34:28Speaker 2: when it was when it was referred to as a
- 34:30Speaker 2: merry thought. What was it called fercula? No, No, merry thought,
- 34:38Speaker 2: same thing you did. You'd break it off, and then
- 34:40Speaker 2: whoever one would get the merry thought, I'd move.
- 34:42Speaker 1: Him up to a six in hosting after that little tidbit.
- 34:45Speaker 2: Question eight, the topic is fishing. Which of these is
- 34:50Speaker 2: considered a cold water fish, catfish, trout or crappie? Which
- 34:58Speaker 2: of these is considered cold water fish, catfish, trout or
- 35:04Speaker 2: a crappy? Room looks stumped, Jimmy, you look like you
- 35:09Speaker 2: might have this one right. You got it for sure?
- 35:11Speaker 12: Uh ninety two?
- 35:13Speaker 2: Okay. We will get a scoreboard update from Phil after
- 35:17Speaker 2: this to see if the perfect game continues. Catfish, trout
- 35:23Speaker 2: or crappy? Which one is a cold water fish waiting
- 35:28Speaker 2: on a poutellus? Which is typical in a game of trivia.
- 35:31Speaker 2: That's how it usually goes. It's everybody ready, go ahead
- 35:36Speaker 2: and reveal your answers. We have Conley saying crappy, Hayden
- 35:41Speaker 2: sang trout, Inina sang catfish, Mabel saying crappy, Jimmy saying catfish,
- 35:46Speaker 2: Teddy sang catfish, Rosie saying catfish. Matthew sag catfish. The
- 35:53Speaker 2: correct answer is trout, which I think Hayden was the
- 35:57Speaker 2: only one to get right. Hayden, did you know that one?
- 36:00Speaker 2: Are you just guessing?
- 36:01Speaker 6: My dad was talking about that like a week.
- 36:03Speaker 2: Ago, you Spencer.
- 36:09Speaker 6: Yeah, we're at like Fort Peck a week ago or something.
- 36:12Speaker 6: You were talking about that.
- 36:13Speaker 2: It wasn't on Friday when I sent Rody what the
- 36:16Speaker 2: questions would be, by chance was what.
- 36:19Speaker 12: I don't remember.
- 36:21Speaker 2: Fish can be broken down into groups that are cold
- 36:24Speaker 2: water cool water besides trout, some other cold water fish
- 36:32Speaker 2: our salmon and burbot, some cool water fish our walleye
- 36:35Speaker 2: and small mouth bass, and some warm water fish are
- 36:38Speaker 2: bluegills and bullheads. These designations tend to be informal, with
- 36:43Speaker 2: the cool water category being the one that's most disagreed on.
- 36:47Speaker 3: We were talking about lakers at Fort Peck, That's what
- 36:49Speaker 3: we were talking about.
- 36:50Speaker 12: Okay, I'm confused because a lot of the times I
- 36:54Speaker 12: see like, I guess it's all stocked. But the amount
- 36:59Speaker 12: of trout in warm ponds. I don't know why, but
- 37:02Speaker 12: that in just I recently in Seattle caught a bunch
- 37:05Speaker 12: of crappie in a warm pond and that just kind
- 37:08Speaker 12: of threw me off. Just snicking the cause catfish I
- 37:11Speaker 12: always need to find kind of the bottom of the
- 37:13Speaker 12: river can be confusing.
- 37:15Speaker 2: A lot of it might be about what temperature they
- 37:17Speaker 2: spawn at. Catfish are very warm. They have one of
- 37:20Speaker 2: the warmest spawning triggers. I think it's like seventy two degrees,
- 37:24Speaker 2: which is probably like twenty some degrees higher than it
- 37:27Speaker 2: would be for a trout phail. We have two questions left.
- 37:31Speaker 2: Where does the scoreboard stand?
- 37:33Speaker 14: We've got Conley with three points, Matthew with four, Teddy
- 37:38Speaker 14: and Jimmy with five, Rosie and Mabel with six. Aina
- 37:42Speaker 14: has seven and still with a perfect game in first place.
- 37:45Speaker 10: As Hayden Hayden Apple does not fall far from the
- 37:50Speaker 10: old tree man crying Wow.
- 37:54Speaker 2: Two Today SHO nine, the topic is woodsmanship. A rack
- 38:03Speaker 2: nophobia is when you're scared of blank. Is it snakes, mice,
- 38:09Speaker 2: or spiders.
- 38:13Speaker 10: I have.
- 38:16Speaker 2: Confident a rack noophobia is when you're scared of snakes, mice,
- 38:23Speaker 2: or spiders. A very confident room, Hayden, is this going
- 38:27Speaker 2: to keep the perfect game going? Do you have this
- 38:28Speaker 2: one right? Okay, he's confident it is. Everybody ready, go
- 38:36Speaker 2: ahead and reveal your answers. Spiders, spiders, spiders. Everybody said spiders.
- 38:43Speaker 2: Everybody got it right? Well done, room?
- 38:48Speaker 18: What is snake aphobia?
- 38:50Speaker 2: A phobia. Phobia is a fear of snakes, and musophobia
- 38:55Speaker 2: is a fear of mice. Some other animal phobias include specsophobia,
- 39:01Speaker 2: which is a fear of wasps, into mophobia, which is
- 39:04Speaker 2: a fear of insects, ornithophobia, which is a fear of birds,
- 39:09Speaker 2: and equinophobia, which is a fear of horses. And they're
- 39:17Speaker 2: tall and they're scared, Dad, scared of any of these animals.
- 39:21Speaker 2: Have you witnessed them get really wigged out by a
- 39:23Speaker 2: certain animal in the woods?
- 39:24Speaker 12: Oh one time? Come on, no, listen, listen, Let me explain.
- 39:30Speaker 12: Let me explain. My mom hates worms or anything with
- 39:36Speaker 12: hundred or anything that has yeah, slithers. But my dad
- 39:43Speaker 12: one time was once that this was one time there
- 39:46Speaker 12: was a big spider who was like, right, above my dad,
- 39:52Speaker 12: and he didn't like that and he killed. Yeah. Usually
- 39:55Speaker 12: my sister's scared of spiders and he makes me kill him.
- 39:58Speaker 12: But that one he killed, So that was is that
- 40:00Speaker 12: could have been I was right next to him, that
- 40:02Speaker 12: could have been I'm.
- 40:03Speaker 1: Trying to protect you, son.
- 40:05Speaker 2: It counts he's scared scared.
- 40:07Speaker 11: If moose phobia is mice, what are mooses?
- 40:12Speaker 2: I don't know the answer to that one. It's a
- 40:14Speaker 2: good one.
- 40:15Speaker 12: It's mice.
- 40:15Speaker 18: It's mice phobia.
- 40:16Speaker 12: Is a fair of moose? Yeah?
- 40:17Speaker 2: And then is Yanny scared of anything? Or is he
- 40:21Speaker 2: pretty tough?
- 40:21Speaker 12: I don't think so.
- 40:22Speaker 2: No, not at all.
- 40:23Speaker 14: Nothing.
- 40:24Speaker 2: No, what about what about Brodie? Do you ever see
- 40:26Speaker 2: him get scared of stuff? Hooks, ticks? Okay, that's that's
- 40:30Speaker 2: a reasonable one. Nothing.
- 40:32Speaker 1: No, he's not scared of nothing.
- 40:36Speaker 12: Never seen it scared.
- 40:41Speaker 13: Phil.
- 40:42Speaker 2: We have one question left? Where does the top of
- 40:44Speaker 2: the leader board stand?
- 40:45Speaker 14: Everyone got that last question right, so it stands pretty
- 40:48Speaker 14: much the same. But we've got Hayden with nine and
- 40:51Speaker 14: I know with eight?
- 40:52Speaker 2: Okay to Hayden. Question ten, The topic is biology. Which
- 40:59Speaker 2: of these animals is fastest? Is it polar bear, cotton
- 41:04Speaker 2: tail rabbit? Or elk. Which of these animals is fastest
- 41:12Speaker 2: polar bear, cottontail rabbit or elk?
- 41:15Speaker 1: I write, now, man, you think you'd get.
- 41:18Speaker 2: This one right? Mm hmm, Okay, down to two players left. Hayden,
- 41:26Speaker 2: do you think you're going to get this one right?
- 41:27Speaker 2: Do you feel good about your answer?
- 41:29Speaker 12: Not?
- 41:29Speaker 5: Very?
- 41:30Speaker 2: Not very? I know how about you? You think you
- 41:34Speaker 2: can get this one right.
- 41:35Speaker 4: I'm still choosing between two.
- 41:37Speaker 10: Okay, how do you realize if he gets it wrong,
- 41:41Speaker 10: you gotta get it right.
- 41:45Speaker 2: That's what That's what I would go to a tiebreaker better?
- 41:52Speaker 1: Hey man, that's a very That feeling runs in the family.
- 41:55Speaker 2: Man again, which animals fastest? A polar bear, cottontail rabbit
- 42:01Speaker 2: or an elk? Does everybody have an answer?
- 42:04Speaker 12: I think I'm gonna get it wrong, get this wrong.
- 42:08Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Conley saying
- 42:12Speaker 2: polar bear, Hayden sang, rabbit, Aina saying elk, Mabel saying
- 42:18Speaker 2: cottontail rabbit, Jimmy sang and elk, Teddy saying a polar bear,
- 42:23Speaker 2: Rosie saying cottontail rabbit, Matthew saying elk. Steve, what would
- 42:27Speaker 2: you say? What do you think it is.
- 42:28Speaker 10: I think it's gonna be one of those like spurts
- 42:30Speaker 10: of speed, and I think a polar bear is gonna
- 42:33Speaker 10: would have a faster top speed for a very short
- 42:37Speaker 10: period of time.
- 42:38Speaker 2: Yan, what do you think, Brody, what do you think?
- 42:41Speaker 3: I would probably I like thought about what Steve was saying,
- 42:45Speaker 3: but I probably go elk.
- 42:46Speaker 2: The correct answer is an elk, and both have nine
- 42:56Speaker 2: correct I have eight. The top speed of a polar
- 43:02Speaker 2: bear is about twenty miles per hour. The top speed
- 43:05Speaker 2: of a cottontail rabbit is thirty miles per hour, although
- 43:08Speaker 2: because they often zig and zag, they rarely exceed fifteen
- 43:12Speaker 2: miles per hour, and the top speed of an elk
- 43:14Speaker 2: is forty five miles per hour, which is similar to
- 43:17Speaker 2: that of greyhounds, coyotes, and kangaroos.
- 43:21Speaker 10: Dude, I wanted there to be a tie breaker, bad hey,
- 43:24Speaker 10: And I wasn't rooting to get you, buddy, I'm just
- 43:25Speaker 10: rooting for a tiebreaker.
- 43:27Speaker 1: I was rooting for a tiebreaker.
- 43:28Speaker 2: We're going to the tiebreaker, play the drop phil.
- 43:32Speaker 1: Type breaker last.
- 43:36Speaker 10: I think just cut it at if you ain't first
- 43:38Speaker 10: your last, and then like going to other stuff.
- 43:40Speaker 1: It's funny. I never liked it a Phil off Man.
- 43:47Speaker 2: The tie breaker question, the tiebreaker.
- 43:56Speaker 1: I didn't catch them. I didn't catch what was it?
- 43:58Speaker 2: There was a bleep in there?
- 44:00Speaker 13: Oh, oh, I got it's bleed.
- 44:02Speaker 1: I didn't know it was bleeding.
- 44:03Speaker 13: No, it's bleached.
- 44:04Speaker 1: I mean I was hoping it was bleak.
- 44:05Speaker 2: The tie breaker question is numerical. That means you will
- 44:09Speaker 2: answer with a number. Whoever is closest to the correct
- 44:13Speaker 2: answer between you two will be declared the winner. The
- 44:17Speaker 2: rest of the room, however, can play along because if
- 44:20Speaker 2: one of you gets this right on the nose, we
- 44:22Speaker 2: will add an extra one hundred dollars to the donation.
- 44:25Speaker 2: So everybody understand what's going on. Here's the tie breaking question.
- 44:30Speaker 2: The topic is fishing. What percent of kids age six
- 44:36Speaker 2: to twelve went fishing in twenty twenty one? What percent
- 44:43Speaker 2: of kids age six to twelve went fishing in twenty
- 44:47Speaker 2: twenty one.
- 44:48Speaker 1: Matt Matthew's wondering if you could explain what that means.
- 44:51Speaker 2: Your answer will be between one and one hundred will
- 44:54Speaker 2: be a.
- 44:55Speaker 10: Let's say there was one hundred kids, Okay, if ninety
- 45:02Speaker 10: over those hundred of ninety went fishing, the answer would
- 45:04Speaker 10: be ninety percent of kids went fishing.
- 45:07Speaker 1: That's what percent means.
- 45:08Speaker 2: If one of them went fishing, then it would be
- 45:10Speaker 2: one percent if.
- 45:11Speaker 1: There was one hundred kids. But in the country there's
- 45:13Speaker 1: a lot more than one hundred kids. But the concept
- 45:15Speaker 1: stays the sun all kids.
- 45:17Speaker 16: In the whole country, how many of them went fishing?
- 45:21Speaker 10: You get the question, but not the real number, the
- 45:23Speaker 10: percent number.
- 45:25Speaker 12: What's the communist thing?
- 45:26Speaker 1: Meaning, here's the thing.
- 45:28Speaker 2: Well, I don't want to make a comp icide, and
- 45:30Speaker 2: here's the question. The top seal.
- 45:32Speaker 10: Hundred kids think about like this, Out of every hundred kids,
- 45:36Speaker 10: how many do you think went fishing?
- 45:38Speaker 12: Is it just one time?
- 45:39Speaker 1: It's all takes.
- 45:40Speaker 2: One time and you count towards this survey. Hayden, how
- 45:44Speaker 2: do you feel about your answer? Okay? How do you
- 45:50Speaker 2: How do you feel about your answer?
- 45:51Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 45:52Speaker 4: I'm still kind of thinking.
- 45:54Speaker 2: And dads, how do we feel? Are you guys nervous?
- 45:56Speaker 2: Does it feel like yours?
- 45:58Speaker 10: There they're looking for anecdotal cues that.
- 46:02Speaker 1: Are going to send them in the very wrong direction.
- 46:08Speaker 2: Johanny, how we feel over there?
- 46:10Speaker 13: I feel great? This is fun?
- 46:11Speaker 2: Okay? Good?
- 46:13Speaker 1: Is it?
- 46:13Speaker 2: Do you watch the kids play sports like volleyball? Does
- 46:16Speaker 2: it compare to that? Is it similar?
- 46:20Speaker 9: Mmm?
- 46:21Speaker 13: The volleyball basketball are a little more physical.
- 46:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 46:27Speaker 10: Man, we had a nail biter on Sunday at the
- 46:29Speaker 10: basket baseball tournament.
- 46:31Speaker 2: M hm, does everybody wow?
- 46:34Speaker 12: Steve?
- 46:35Speaker 7: Almost sounds like you enjoyed it.
- 46:38Speaker 1: Almost James's mother was pacing around. Really, he couldn't say
- 46:43Speaker 1: I was pacing around?
- 46:45Speaker 2: And how did it end? Okay? Again, does everybody have
- 46:50Speaker 2: an answer? Because one of you could get it right
- 46:51Speaker 2: in the nose and add an extra hundred dollars donation.
- 46:56Speaker 13: Write something down?
- 46:57Speaker 2: Is everybody ready? Conley? How we doing? You have an answer? Okay,
- 47:03Speaker 2: go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Conley saying eight,
- 47:08Speaker 2: Mabel saying sixty five, Jimmy sang sixty two, Teddy sang
- 47:13Speaker 2: sixty three? Were you too copying off each other? Over there?
- 47:16Speaker 2: Rosie sang fifty seven, Matthew sang ninety nine. Fishing and
- 47:22Speaker 2: our two competitors left. We have Hayden saying twelve and
- 47:27Speaker 2: Aina saying twenty three. Before we get there, fifty three,
- 47:31Speaker 2: I'm sorry fifty three?
- 47:33Speaker 1: Can you can you walk me through where you guys
- 47:35Speaker 1: are what you guys are thinking?
- 47:37Speaker 12: Random numbers?
- 47:40Speaker 4: I first was like, it was twenty twenty one.
- 47:43Speaker 18: There was COVID, so I was like it should be
- 47:45Speaker 18: a lower number. But then I was like, but maybe
- 47:46Speaker 18: kids were going outside more because they were couldn't like
- 47:49Speaker 18: go to like stores, I guess, or couldn't like go
- 47:53Speaker 18: in communal places, so they went outside more.
- 47:55Speaker 4: And would more fishing kids. So I was like, let's
- 47:57Speaker 4: go more.
- 47:58Speaker 1: See you jack your number up here?
- 47:59Speaker 2: Yeah that's good. How about you hate where you have
- 48:01Speaker 2: to come up.
- 48:02Speaker 6: With twelve COVID and thinking about like col a lot
- 48:05Speaker 6: of stuff's getting like modernized. I guess not a lot
- 48:08Speaker 6: of kids are doing stuff outside.
- 48:10Speaker 2: I feel like a lower number than the rest of
- 48:13Speaker 2: the room.
- 48:13Speaker 1: At point, very very sound reasoning.
- 48:15Speaker 16: Though we got a book for that. No catch a
- 48:18Speaker 16: cray fish count the stars get a good book.
- 48:20Speaker 1: Getting kicked out I got. I got one more question
- 48:22Speaker 1: because Matthew came in at ninety nine, I understand it.
- 48:26Speaker 2: Oh, okay, reasonable reasonable explanation. Again, the question is what
- 48:31Speaker 2: percentage kids between age six and twelve went fishing in
- 48:34Speaker 2: twenty twenty one. The correct answer is twenty eight percent,
- 48:40Speaker 2: making Hayden water he.
- 48:44Speaker 4: Six.
- 48:47Speaker 2: Well done. Hayden with the victory put his hands up
- 48:50Speaker 2: over his head. How does it feel, Hayden to win
- 48:53Speaker 2: grating trivia?
- 48:55Speaker 6: Good?
- 48:56Speaker 2: Got any more words than that?
- 48:58Speaker 6: Keeping continuing the legacy there continue?
- 49:03Speaker 2: All right, buddy, that's.
- 49:07Speaker 1: Dude. I thought con Man might have on the nose
- 49:09Speaker 1: with eight.
- 49:10Speaker 2: Twenty eight percent? Wow was the right answer, Hayden?
- 49:14Speaker 16: Can I ask you how you so? Your dad wrote
- 49:18Speaker 16: the book with Steve? So, how do you feel about
- 49:21Speaker 16: the book? Do you like the book?
- 49:22Speaker 6: Yeah, I've read a little bit of it. I read
- 49:25Speaker 6: some of it. It's really good.
- 49:26Speaker 2: It's a good book available yesterday it came out. Steve,
- 49:31Speaker 2: this was the first children's book you've ever worked on.
- 49:35Speaker 2: How was it different than like every other book that
- 49:37Speaker 2: that you've created?
- 49:38Speaker 1: It was for kids?
- 49:42Speaker 2: Besides that, did you find it was like easier to make?
- 49:46Speaker 2: Or was it harder because you didn't know what they
- 49:49Speaker 2: would know? Where did that stand?
- 49:52Speaker 12: No?
- 49:52Speaker 10: Because we were like, yeah, I worked on with Brody.
- 49:56Speaker 10: We've been in the kid raising business for a long time.
- 50:01Speaker 10: I always point out to people that you know anything,
- 50:04Speaker 10: but I'm like anything but a parenting subject matter expert.
- 50:10Speaker 10: But I have achieved subject matter expertise on the trials
- 50:15Speaker 10: and tribulations of getting your family outside and what goes
- 50:19Speaker 10: into that and all the wins and losses.
- 50:23Speaker 1: And when we did.
- 50:27Speaker 10: When we did Outdoor Kids in an Inside World. All
- 50:30Speaker 10: through that time, which is a book for parents to read,
- 50:37Speaker 10: all through that time, we talked about doing a companion book.
- 50:42Speaker 10: A lot went into it because you're explaining that, like
- 50:45Speaker 10: here's here's well I discussed this with my kids last night.
- 50:47Speaker 10: Is the only kind of scalers that we ever had
- 50:53Speaker 10: growing up was bottle cap scalers, right, and you just
- 50:58Speaker 10: know about that bottle cap scaler and we've been making those,
- 51:02Speaker 10: you know, various goofy, various versions of blowguns, you know,
- 51:05Speaker 10: your whole life whatever. But to then try to get
- 51:08Speaker 10: it down where you're explaining things that you never thought
- 51:13Speaker 10: to explain before. It'd be like if you could make
- 51:15Speaker 10: something all the time at dinner and then someone's like you, no,
- 51:17Speaker 10: tell me exactly how you make it?
- 51:19Speaker 1: Sure, you'd be like, oh no, man, it's like, yeah,
- 51:21Speaker 1: I mean water in it. It looks like to write
- 51:23Speaker 1: amount of water.
- 51:24Speaker 13: Y be honest.
- 51:25Speaker 3: To help us with the bow making thing, the PVC bow, which,
- 51:29Speaker 3: like when you think about it, is very easy to make.
- 51:32Speaker 3: When you try to write the instructions for a kid.
- 51:35Speaker 10: It it's like, yeah, how to cut the PVC and
- 51:39Speaker 10: tie it winds up being like, oh no, tight on
- 51:41Speaker 10: the ends, leave me alone.
- 51:45Speaker 17: Now.
- 51:45Speaker 2: Brodie Steve just gave the example of the bottle cap scaler,
- 51:48Speaker 2: there's the PBC bows. What are some other activities that
- 51:52Speaker 2: kids should expect to find in this book.
- 51:55Speaker 3: It's not all hunting fishing. There's gardening stuff in there,
- 51:59Speaker 3: forging stuff in there. There's a lot of like the
- 52:02Speaker 3: thing I really like about it is there's a lot
- 52:05Speaker 3: of like cool factoids and science these stuff.
- 52:08Speaker 13: So it's not just like make a bow.
- 52:11Speaker 3: There's all kinds of history and science and so they're
- 52:14Speaker 3: like learning more than just the activity.
- 52:17Speaker 10: And there's stuff for doing inside, yeah, bringing the outdoors inside.
- 52:23Speaker 10: And there's other things that are just good skills to have,
- 52:25Speaker 10: but we turn them, for instance, recognizing basic celestial navigation markers. Right,
- 52:34Speaker 10: so you can think of a project, but it's just
- 52:38Speaker 10: a thing where it might even a parent might be reminded, right,
- 52:44Speaker 10: just reminded that the next time you're sitting there looking
- 52:47Speaker 10: at the stars, to explain how do you find the
- 52:51Speaker 10: North Star?
- 52:51Speaker 1: Well, what's the big Dipper look like?
- 52:53Speaker 10: And how do you go off that to find a
- 52:55Speaker 10: thing or there's things that you carry in your head
- 52:58Speaker 10: that you might not think to share with your kids,
- 53:00Speaker 10: Like you're carrying your head what the sun does, you know,
- 53:03Speaker 10: and trusting that you're not at the equator, that that
- 53:08Speaker 10: it's gonna look at different. You know, it's gonna look different,
- 53:11Speaker 10: come up in different places throughout the year, and you
- 53:13Speaker 10: carry it with you, but then a good vocabulary with
- 53:17Speaker 10: which to then bring your kids into that and start
- 53:21Speaker 10: being aware of it and noticing it.
- 53:23Speaker 1: And again, a lot of it stuff. It's just it's
- 53:26Speaker 1: lifestyle issues.
- 53:27Speaker 8: You know.
- 53:28Speaker 10: But it's framed as these very achievable, very inexpensive projects
- 53:36Speaker 10: to work on, even though in my personal life we
- 53:41Speaker 10: tackle a lot of them, not really as gather around
- 53:44Speaker 10: for project time, sure, you know, but it's it's like,
- 53:49Speaker 10: it's great things for kids to work on, but it's
- 53:51Speaker 10: also all these things that a parent might sort of
- 53:54Speaker 10: tuck away or a caregiver would tuck away in their
- 53:56Speaker 10: mind to to remember that one of the times appropriate
- 54:01Speaker 10: to have this little lesson or do this little project.
- 54:05Speaker 10: And it might not occur in a eight am on
- 54:08Speaker 10: Monday morning, we will do this project, but you weave
- 54:11Speaker 10: it into life.
- 54:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm sure you're aware of this, but I think
- 54:15Speaker 2: you know when I've seen the book, I think one
- 54:16Speaker 2: thing you accomplished was that I have nieces and nephews
- 54:19Speaker 2: from me wide range of backgrounds, from ones that have
- 54:21Speaker 2: like helped gut a deer and loved to go fishing,
- 54:25Speaker 2: to other ones who just like to go on walks
- 54:27Speaker 2: around their neighborhood, from like that spectrum of outdoor involvement,
- 54:32Speaker 2: and your book would be great for either one of
- 54:34Speaker 2: them across that entire spectrum, whether they have a rudimentary
- 54:39Speaker 2: understanding of the world around them, or their parents live
- 54:42Speaker 2: and breathe this stuff like you guys do. It would
- 54:46Speaker 2: be fun for either one of them to pick this up.
- 54:48Speaker 1: There's a lot of stuff in that book. The people that.
- 54:52Speaker 10: Enjoy and appreciate hunting and fishing and physical activities like gardening.
- 54:57Speaker 10: There's a lot of things that they're going to like.
- 54:58Speaker 10: But a lot of it's I mean a lot of
- 55:01Speaker 10: it's observational and just and is meant to is meant
- 55:05Speaker 10: to get you and through your your kids to be
- 55:11Speaker 10: to gain a bit of environmental awareness.
- 55:18Speaker 1: That that you live like that you live in a habitat.
- 55:22Speaker 10: You live in a in a home environment and there's
- 55:25Speaker 10: dynamic things occurring around you in the home environment, and
- 55:28Speaker 10: it's it's like.
- 55:30Speaker 1: It's not the outdoors isn't chaotic.
- 55:33Speaker 10: Sure, you know, there's like there's these understandable patterns and
- 55:36Speaker 10: predictable things, and and when you have a.
- 55:38Speaker 1: Garden, neglect is death, right, Carrying is life, you know,
- 55:44Speaker 1: so a lot.
- 55:45Speaker 10: Of things that are just helpful life, you know, helpful
- 55:50Speaker 10: life lessons and and and and and then also an
- 55:52Speaker 10: awareness that uh, an awareness that we utilize resources and
- 55:58Speaker 10: that that our utilization of resources isn't negative, right, It's
- 56:03Speaker 10: not like a dirty secret to utilize resources. So it's like,
- 56:07Speaker 10: how do you access and use resources in a way
- 56:10Speaker 10: that that breeds a level of understanding responsibility.
- 56:13Speaker 2: Something that can teach them that beyond just the lower ax. Sure,
