- 0:04the boys yo yo welcome back to banter with the
- 0:14boys fast the laps we're back i'm yelling i'm
- 0:18yelling uh i feel like the tasmanian you know
- 0:22what i mean like it's time to go fellas that
- 0:26was a lot thought i was gonna come hot out of
- 0:29the gate but you did it for me i'm a little scared
- 0:32oh joe welcome back i am so excited to be back
- 0:36i this is like the one thing i've been talking
- 0:37like people tell me what are you looking forward
- 0:39to this year it's been this i am so excited we're
- 0:42going racing again this weekend a lot of stuff
- 0:44happened over the over the winter break which
- 0:46isn't even that long when you actually look at
- 0:49it on a calendar it's not it's a long it's a
- 0:51long season march to december it's crazy but
- 0:54we're already back back at it again and mike
- 0:57is going to be joining us, hopefully, for all
- 0:59season, or at least... As much as I can, you
- 1:02know? I'm going to be here as much as possible.
- 1:03Well, we'll see. This one's got to go well first.
- 1:06Yeah. And then we'll make the... If they let
- 1:08me back. We'll make the executive decision. If
- 1:11you just see me making notes, don't worry about
- 1:13it. Okay, yeah. Mm -hmm. Yep, yep. Oh, my gosh.
- 1:17And obviously, don't forget Kev behind the scenes
- 1:20here making everything happen for us. Audio,
- 1:23video for our YouTube folk. But before we move
- 1:27right into the offseason recap, Mike's got something
- 1:31on his heart. So. For people who are unaware,
- 1:35Joe and I have a little bit of a history of getting
- 1:38each other Christmas presents. Oh, no. And I
- 1:41didn't give you your Christmas present right
- 1:43away, so I figured what better place to do that
- 1:45than here on the pod. Oh, no. I was thinking
- 1:49about this the other day. I was like, I know
- 1:51Mike got me something. He just hasn't given it
- 1:54to me yet. Oh, my gosh. It's in a box, too. By
- 1:57the way, it is March. It is March right now.
- 2:01And they are friends, actually. They see each
- 2:05other. We've seen each other once or twice, yeah.
- 2:07So I got you a little something. I hope that
- 2:09you enjoy this. Oh, no. Kevin, if you want to
- 2:16put it on my camera. Oh, man. Is that from his
- 2:19store? Oh, man. This is the four -time world
- 2:22champion Max Verstappen shirt. Wouldn't you know,
- 2:26for your favorite driver. For the Max Verstappen
- 2:30fan. You know what has to happen now, right?
- 2:33What's that? Kev, can we pause for a second?
- 2:35Whoa. Yeah, let's pause for a second. And we're
- 2:44back at it. Oh, Joe's back wearing the Max Verstappen
- 2:48shirt. His favorite driver. Congratulations.
- 2:53My favorite driver. Yay! It's me. It's me, Max
- 2:59Verstappen. Was that the gift last year? That
- 3:02was the gift last year. So for our Spotify listeners,
- 3:05there's a, I don't know, a gift wrapped stick
- 3:08with a Max Verstappen face on the end of it.
- 3:13We just have all the props this season. This
- 3:15is excellent. I'm loving this so far. It's a
- 3:17pretty nice shirt. It probably will be the only
- 3:21time I wear it. That's fair. Tell you what. If
- 3:24this guy comes with his fifth WDC, I'll be wearing
- 3:28this for that episode. Okay. I look forward to
- 3:30that. All right. We got it. I'll come decked
- 3:32out. I'll get a hat. Whoa, whoa, whoa. He's talking
- 3:35about spending money on him now. Yeah. Oh, my
- 3:39gosh. Well, with that. Again, if you're watching
- 3:43on YouTube, you get to enjoy Joe wearing his
- 3:45favorite driver for the rest of this episode.
- 3:48With that, let's head right into our off -season
- 3:50recap. And to start off our off -season recap,
- 4:07it has been a long day. um been a long off season
- 4:10uh with that this is a real quick recap but if
- 4:14you have anything to say let's let's talk about
- 4:16it uh liam to red bull uh obviously a lot of
- 4:19us had some questions i'm in the question crowd
- 4:23personally but i want to hear what you guys gotta
- 4:25say yeah probably the i mean the most anticipated
- 4:28news leaving last season uh because i don't think
- 4:31it was confirmed until like off season right
- 4:34that sounds like just just a little bit after
- 4:35yeah uh I guess I don't know what to say. I definitely
- 4:40don't think either. I don't think Liam even really
- 4:44proved himself that much. I don't think. I don't
- 4:48think Yuki did either, but he's the obvious choice
- 4:50for me over anyone, right? Yuki over Liam? Yeah.
- 4:56Oh, yeah, yeah, for sure. Me too. There's an
- 4:57argument, I guess. They saw Liam in the car.
- 5:01They put Max and Liam side by side in the same
- 5:04car, and Liam was only a couple tenths off. It
- 5:07was like, yeah, but Danny was the same thing,
- 5:09and he's out of the sport now. There's been races
- 5:13where Sergio has done. The same. Yeah. So my
- 5:17thing is, it's like, if Liam comes in here and
- 5:20is doing the same thing as Sergio's doing, or
- 5:23did, it's like, is that really a win? Like, if
- 5:27Liam consistently, let's say, gets P8 through
- 5:30P10, you know what I mean? Can he get better
- 5:33than P8 consistently? I mean, without getting
- 5:36into our predictions, we'll wait on that, right?
- 5:38If he's doing P8 to P10, he's already beating
- 5:40Checo. So, I mean, let's be fair. Yes and no.
- 5:44It also depends on where Verstappen is and what
- 5:47the car's doing, right? Yeah, and do they give
- 5:49him grace? Like, knowing that he's a semi -rookie?
- 5:52Yes, considering he's got a car. Like, when I
- 5:55didn't think he'd be in V -Carb, at least, I
- 5:58figured. They gave Pierre half a season. Right.
- 6:02Was it even a full half season? I don't even
- 6:04know. I think it was a full half season. Yeah,
- 6:06and then Albon finished. He had been driving
- 6:08in AlphaTauri for a while at that point, though.
- 6:11Right, right, right. So, I mean, they can't afford
- 6:15to let Liam, you know. rune races or not finish
- 6:20well consistently yeah for sure what are they
- 6:23gonna do right would they do a mid -season swap
- 6:26if it was like uh if it's if it's going with
- 6:29with yuki obviously is what i'm not isaac we'll
- 6:32get to god forbid isaac hajar is just like lighting
- 6:35up yeah the circuit which i mean we'll get into
- 6:38but like they brought liam and they could bring
- 6:39him in i mean it's And I know Christian Horner
- 6:43is a big Isaac Hajar fan. He's been fighting
- 6:47for this guy since day one. So, I mean, I guess
- 6:49maybe. And clearly they have no interest in Yuki
- 6:52for whatever reason. Yeah, I think if I'm Yuki,
- 6:57I'm looking out. Looking to get out ASAP out
- 7:00of the Red Bull organization. Hamilton to Ferrari,
- 7:03obviously we kind of knew that one. It's so weird
- 7:07seeing him in red. It's hard for me to talk about
- 7:08that without getting into predictions personally
- 7:11because I don't – I'll just hold it. I'll hold
- 7:15it for later. I'll hold it for later. I mean,
- 7:16you can say what you want without saying what
- 7:18you think he's going to be. I just think it's
- 7:20not going to be drastically different than last
- 7:23season for Lewis. I will agree with you. I think
- 7:26it could be better, and it probably will be better,
- 7:29but I don't think it's going to be drastically
- 7:31better. And Ferrari brought a new car. a year
- 7:35away from new regs so i just i don't know it
- 7:40just seems weird what they're doing i i like
- 7:43the move of bringing hamilton in though i think
- 7:44and then if you had to make the decision if you
- 7:47already had that plan you had to make the decision
- 7:49between charles and and carlos i think you made
- 7:52the right decision you know as hard as it is
- 7:54to move on from carlos and as hard as it is to
- 7:56see him go to a you know mid mid -pack car you
- 8:00know but You could make the argument that maybe
- 8:03that decision shouldn't have been made at all.
- 8:04They just kept both Charles and Carlos. But when
- 8:07Lewis Hamilton comes knocking on your door, are
- 8:09you going to not take him? How do you not take
- 8:12one of the greatest drivers of all time? It doesn't
- 8:14happen. It's just a shame. Yeah. Shame for Carlos.
- 8:18Shame for Carlos. Shame for Carlos. I mean, good
- 8:20for Lewis. We'll see. Hey, he could rejuvenate
- 8:23and set the record, right? He definitely needs
- 8:25a fresh car, I would say. Yeah. Well, this is
- 8:28about as fresh as he's going to get a brand new
- 8:30car. Yep. So. And testing. We'll get to testing.
- 8:34All right. Botas to Mercedes as a reserve. But
- 8:38rumor has it that Botas could have been a reserve
- 8:41anywhere. Like, there was multiple teams interested
- 8:43in him. Maybe a team would make a play to somehow
- 8:46obtain him. You know what I mean? Yeah, I feel
- 8:49like. If they needed one. For any reason. Merc
- 8:52is where he belongs, right? Oh, for sure. Yeah.
- 8:55For sure. Like, if Kimmy wasn't in the car, I
- 8:57think Botas would have been in the car. Yeah.
- 8:59And, I mean, kind of speaking of Kimmy, I don't
- 9:02think he's on our list for this quick recap,
- 9:03but, I mean, if Kimmy can't hack it, they should
- 9:06put Botas in. Yeah. We'll get the Kimmy. Right?
- 9:08Yeah. Well, Kimmy's also not on our rookie look,
- 9:11but we'll talk about him there, too, which is
- 9:12in just a moment. Just a moment. Colapinto to
- 9:17Alpine. So this is interesting, and I don't know
- 9:20who put this in here, but rumors to take. Mr.
- 9:24Jack, is it Doohan? Doohan. Doohan. I've heard
- 9:27it so many ways, and today I've been listening
- 9:29to a lot of F1 podcasts, so it's all coming from
- 9:32across the pond, so they say it completely different.
- 9:34But old Jackson. I think it's weird for Alpine
- 9:41to sign Colapinto to a long -term deal. It's
- 9:46a five -year deal. As a reserve driver. I think
- 9:50Alpine has sent a message to do at this point.
- 9:56This is the sort of Damocles over your head.
- 10:00You better compete with Pierre because if you
- 10:04don't, there's an Argentinian axe coming down.
- 10:06And they say that's not the case, but come on.
- 10:10Come on. Come on. You don't sign a reserve driver
- 10:12for that long after running a few races in F1
- 10:15last year. Like, okay, you have plans for him.
- 10:19Flavio giveth, Flavio taketh away. He's known
- 10:22to be cutthroat. That is his shtick. So is this
- 10:26more of a trial run for Duane to try to get a
- 10:29job somewhere else? You know what I mean? To
- 10:31put his name on the map? Bro just wants a drive,
- 10:35right? That's what I mean. And this is his opportunity,
- 10:37right? But that's, you know, it's to that point.
- 10:40If he can't keep up with Pierre, like, well.
- 10:42But here's the thing. We have Colapinto, who
- 10:44has been in many full races. He has not done
- 10:47super well, per se. He didn't end the season
- 10:50well. He had a really strong start. But, yeah,
- 10:52he didn't really, like, you know, fulfill, I
- 10:54would say, by the end. But he still has good
- 10:57experience. So, like, it wouldn't be, like, a
- 11:01crazy. It would be crazy to see it happen, but
- 11:04it wouldn't be a crazy thought to be like, you
- 11:06know, Doohan gets last place the first two races,
- 11:10throw Colapinto in there. Like two races, obviously
- 11:13insane. But I mean, I've been, I've been hearing.
- 11:16like there's like twitter is sitting here talking
- 11:19about like potentially as early as them axing
- 11:22him this weekend and i'm like that which is such
- 11:25that's crazy like especially not with what is
- 11:27rubbish his home race like i've heard that a
- 11:31lot today rubbish is duhan is he is he australian
- 11:36is he new zealand i think he's new zealand okay
- 11:39I think so. I thought he was British. No, I think
- 11:41he's right. That means that Australia is basically
- 11:42his home race. No, Jack Dewan is Australian.
- 11:45He is Australian. Apologies, Newfies. So this
- 11:47is his home race. Oh, man, that's exciting. Well,
- 11:51we'll see. He's got to start hot. He's got to
- 11:53start hot. Joe to Ferrari in the reserve role.
- 11:57That's a good move for Joe. Yeah, I feel bad
- 11:58for Joe. He got thrown in a bad car and then
- 12:01had a bad season. He did, but at least he's reserved
- 12:03for a team that, again, will get into this season.
- 12:08whatever you think but at least the team that's
- 12:10probably going to come out of the gate at least
- 12:13probably still in that top four range next season
- 12:16you know what i mean so he's still a part of
- 12:17a good organization yeah right oh absolutely
- 12:20and we've seen reserve drivers make moves like
- 12:21we could see joe in a hoss you know in a couple
- 12:23years down when possibly esteban can't deliver
- 12:27again or something like that oh boy well and
- 12:29then and then you know cadillacs joining we'll
- 12:31get to that uh you know there's gonna be two
- 12:33seats open for that uh andy cowell To ask Martin
- 12:37as the team principal? Yeah, was he from somewhere?
- 12:40Was he from? No, not Red Bull. Ollie's from Red
- 12:42Bull, right? Ollie's from Red Bull. Okay. He
- 12:46is from somewhere. I don't remember where. I
- 12:48can check really quickly. Probably Red Bull.
- 12:50Joe's already on it. It is probably Red Bull.
- 12:52Probably Red Bull. They've been siphoning people
- 12:54off Red Bull like crazy. I think it was Red Bull.
- 13:02Yeah, he was an engineer at Red Bull. Yep, that
- 13:04makes sense. Of course he was. That's what I
- 13:05thought. Oh, no. It was Mercedes? Mercedes high
- 13:09-performance powertrains. It was Mercedes, not
- 13:12Red Bull. Red Bull tried to sign Andy Cole, apparently.
- 13:15Oh, interesting. But he went to Aston. To work
- 13:20with Newey. That stroll check, baby. I mean,
- 13:23that too. That too. All right. All right. Rookies,
- 13:27rookies, rookies. We're going to be talking about
- 13:31these guys. literally all season so we don't
- 13:34need to spend a ridiculous ton but there's gonna
- 13:36be a lot of rookies in the field i don't know
- 13:39the most since what do you think i don't even
- 13:40know i should have looked that up most rookies
- 13:42in on the grid oh probably since i don't even
- 13:46know like it's gotta be crazy has there ever
- 13:49been that many 2017 or something like that Like,
- 13:53you know, Jack, I still consider a rookie. Liam
- 13:56is not probably classified a rookie. 2001, there
- 14:01were seven rookies. Holy crap. So it's been a
- 14:04while. And 2025 has six now. So what's your take
- 14:10then on Ollie Bierman? I'm really excited, especially
- 14:12after everything we saw last year. I think Ollie
- 14:15has potential to be one of the best out of these
- 14:19rookies. Now, that doesn't mean he's going to
- 14:23get the most points because he is in a Haas.
- 14:25Correct. Obviously, I think it's fair to assume
- 14:28that Kimi is probably going to get the most points
- 14:30out of all of the new drivers because he's in
- 14:31the best car. But with that said, I think he's
- 14:37got some of the most potential. I don't think
- 14:39he has the most potential, but he's up there.
- 14:41Okay. Fair enough. You're excited to have him,
- 14:43though. I am. I'm very excited. As a Haas fan.
- 14:45As one of the 12 Haas fans. As one of the 12
- 14:49Haas fans. We are excited. Wearing it proudly.
- 14:53Jack Duhan, we've already talked about Jack,
- 14:55really. Oh, I also have an Alpine hat now for
- 14:58this season. He's a real F1 fan now. Pierre,
- 15:01I'm a real F1 fan after six years. Technically,
- 15:04third Fast Lap season, we got you a hat. Yeah,
- 15:07yeah, we're starting the third Fast Lap season.
- 15:10I finally have something F1 related to wear on
- 15:13the show that we do, this thing here. Yeah, yeah.
- 15:18Set to possibly be replaced. Okay, Isaac Hajar.
- 15:22Yes, Isaac Hajar. I think he'll do all right
- 15:25in the V car. What do you think, Joe? Oh, yeah,
- 15:26I think he was incredibly strong in his F2 showing.
- 15:30I think he was consistently battling with Gabriel
- 15:33for the championship. and he was up there almost
- 15:38if we were to put them in last year's cars obviously
- 15:41he'd be scoring more points than gabrielle would
- 15:43so i think i think he's i don't know if he's
- 15:45gonna match yuki but i don't think he's gonna
- 15:47be far off i think he he has a good opportunity
- 15:49to really like you know get there i don't know
- 15:51if i go quite that far in his first season i
- 15:55think he's probably gonna blunder a little bit
- 15:57i think he's gonna run away with it this season
- 15:58but i do think that he will score a couple of
- 16:00points how many points just a couple just a couple
- 16:05just a couple just wait until we get to my talks
- 16:07about constructors oh boy all right all right
- 16:10let's keep moving uh gabriel uh bordoletto hey
- 16:13he's the f2 champion i'm so real crappy car yeah
- 16:16i was gonna yeah i was just about to say the
- 16:18same thing no no don't you don't have anything
- 16:21to be sorry about it's unfortunate but he gets
- 16:24he gets a drive that's what matters straight
- 16:26up does he beat hulk No. God, no. I don't think
- 16:29so. No chance. Hulk's been in the sport forever.
- 16:33He has, but the car's so bad. He's the second
- 16:36most seasoned driver on the grid. Yeah. I mean,
- 16:39we got to compare him with Joe pretty much, right?
- 16:42Yeah. And Joe did. There were some races when
- 16:45Joe was a little bit of a Botas, but neither
- 16:46of them were making points. Well, the car would
- 16:48never really finish a race. They would start
- 16:50hot, and you're like, oh, we could see a point
- 16:53or something, and then you could just, nah. As
- 16:56I am like, Number one Bortoletto fan. I'm so
- 17:00excited for him. I think he's only going to score
- 17:03maybe two or three points. That's pretty optimistic,
- 17:06I would say. I don't think he's scoring any points.
- 17:09I don't think so either. I think Hulk's lucky
- 17:10to get a point. I think we see Nico get a couple
- 17:14points this season. Not too many, just a few.
- 17:17Tell us just a couple fun facts about Bortoletto.
- 17:20What do you mean? Just like he was F2 champion.
- 17:23What else is cool about him? Did he do well in
- 17:26F3? That's his biggest accolade. He won some
- 17:31other championship. God, what the heck was it?
- 17:35I was like listening to him because like when
- 17:37I first heard about him, I know he's from the
- 17:39McLaren. McLaren. The McLaren. Academy. Academy.
- 17:43Yeah. McLaren Academy. And he's he was like a
- 17:46big rising star in the McLaren Academy. He was
- 17:48like Zach Brown was putting a bunch of money
- 17:51and a bunch of time into him and basically was
- 17:53like, hey, my drivers aren't going anywhere,
- 17:56but I want this guy to do something and he's
- 17:58going to be really good. So he shipped him off.
- 18:00Yeah. And that's how like. Kicks Albert picked
- 18:03him up. I didn't mean to put you on the spot.
- 18:06You said he was a numbers fan, so I thought you
- 18:07might have. I'm just excited. I got you. He was
- 18:09an F3 champ, too. Dope, dope. A fun fact about
- 18:13him, his manager is Fernando Alonso. Really?
- 18:19Yes. I love it. This is a weird plug for F1.
- 18:23They released a rookie roundtable today on YouTube.
- 18:26Really fun watch. They all act like school kids.
- 18:30The interviewer had to shush them down for part
- 18:32of the interview because they just started ranting.
- 18:34Yeah, Bortoletto, I think it's unfortunate he's
- 18:38in a kick because he looks like he could be a
- 18:40big competitor as well. But remember, that kick
- 18:43is going to be in Audi next year. And they're
- 18:45probably just going to... They're going to be
- 18:47garbage. But I am riding the Coke train. I am
- 18:51too. Trust me. They're going to be good. I'm
- 18:53not riding it as hard as you are. They're going
- 18:54to be good. You guys are dreamers, man. Okay.
- 18:57Kimi Antonelli. I mean, like you said, he's in
- 19:01the best position to score the most points out
- 19:03of all of them. Does he, though? I mean, yeah.
- 19:07Who's going to beat him? We'll talk about, I
- 19:09guess, I mean, we're about to get into preseason.
- 19:12Hypothetically, we'll get into it. But, like,
- 19:13between, like. him and liam like can he can he
- 19:17consistently beat out liam oh you know i actually
- 19:23don't know i actually don't know um the other
- 19:27liam's on the track because i think it's gonna
- 19:30try to clear it up i won't know i won't have
- 19:32a good opinion until we see them race like until
- 19:34we see the cars race specifically well which
- 19:37is a because kimmy kimmy crashed a couple times
- 19:40last year I'm sorry, dude. The line he said last
- 19:43year where he wasn't fully ready or whatever
- 19:45after that F2 race. Yeah. I get it. Did you not
- 19:50like it? He was just trying to be humble, but
- 19:51not saying that he's pretty much saying he's
- 19:54not ready. So I'm just concerned about possible
- 19:57carnage this year with Kimmy. I don't know. I
- 20:00appreciate a humble Kimmy. No, for sure. And
- 20:04a lot of people are sitting here trying to compare
- 20:07him to Max Verstappen. Do we remember what Max
- 20:10Verstappen? Kimmy, Kimmy. Do we remember what
- 20:14Max Verstappen's first year or two looked like?
- 20:17He spent a lot of time in the barriers. Like,
- 20:20Max crashed quite a bit. And so I think we could
- 20:23see some of that out of Kimmy, too, because Kimmy's
- 20:24just trying to push really, really hard and prove
- 20:27that he's got that pace. Sure. And so... I think...
- 20:32There's a chance Liam could outscore him. If
- 20:34cars match recent form, Liam's going to be ahead,
- 20:39especially because Liam has two half seasons
- 20:42of experience. Liam should be ahead of Kimmy.
- 20:46Yeah, I agree. As long as Red Bull did not completely
- 20:48destroy their car over the offseason, which I
- 20:51don't think they have. They've made a lot of
- 20:52minor adjustments, allegedly, according to Horner,
- 20:56that you can't see. That also being said, if
- 21:00Kimmy does not score any points for the first
- 21:02five races, do they sub Botas in? Is that a simple
- 21:09switch? Can you just sub a reserve into that
- 21:12spot? I don't know if I've seen Merc do that
- 21:14stuff before. Can you, though? I think you can.
- 21:18They're on the same team. I mean, they did that
- 21:20with Red Bull. They kicked Danny, and then they
- 21:24brought Liam in, and he was a reserve driver
- 21:26for them. Yeah, but Danny was injured. No, this
- 21:29was last season. Oh, yeah, last season. Oh, you
- 21:31know what? Actually, good point. No, I'm valid.
- 21:33Sorry. Yeah. You know what? Fair point. But that's
- 21:34Red Bull. Merc, I don't know if I've seen them
- 21:36do something like that before. I think Mercedes,
- 21:39if... With Botas lurking. You know what I mean?
- 21:41I'd like to think they have more class, but it's
- 21:43possible because they have Botas on the sidelines
- 21:46that they could be like, if Kimi just isn't...
- 21:49There's no way he does his four points. Oh, yeah,
- 21:51I agree. There's no way. You know what I mean?
- 21:52He's got to be scoring. I'm not a Kimi fan. I
- 21:54don't think he's going to be awesome right out
- 21:56of the gate. But, like, there's no way. I bet
- 21:58he scores at least a few. Oh, I think so. I think
- 22:01if Kimi is just not scoring at all, and if George
- 22:05is struggling, too, I think Mercedes might even
- 22:08just be like, you know what? It's not our season.
- 22:11Regulation changes next year. Kimi, get used
- 22:14to the car. Take the season. Get used to the
- 22:17car. We're going to focus on next year. They'll
- 22:20still bring a couple upgrades here and there
- 22:21to stay in top four, you know. But aside from
- 22:25that, they're just going to focus on next year.
- 22:27Like, can we get the experience? And then go
- 22:31from there. I would even go as far as to say
- 22:33that might be what they're doing already. Very
- 22:35possibly. 100%. We want to come in with a really
- 22:37fast car, but really, we're getting Kimi up to
- 22:39speed. We're getting ready for next year. It's
- 22:42unfortunate that we might match what we did last
- 22:43year. We're hoping the car's at least a little
- 22:45better. I think they're going to come out of
- 22:47the gate firing next year. Mercedes. All right.
- 22:52Caddy. Cadillac. Officially joins us. This last
- 22:55week, yeah. This last week is official. How are
- 22:57you guys feeling about it? Are you guys excited?
- 22:59I got so mad. I saw somebody say, I'm so excited.
- 23:02to finally see an American team on the track.
- 23:05Oh my gosh. That's actually funny. My dad emailed
- 23:09me because he emailed me the headline of Caddy
- 23:12joining. I'm like, you know there's already an
- 23:14American team on the track. I'll talk to him.
- 23:17He's getting a text from me tonight. And what's
- 23:19funny is that Haas is like a manufacturing company
- 23:22and he's like in manufacturing himself. So I'm
- 23:25like, you should know this. And he's like, I
- 23:27don't care. No, yeah. I'm looking forward to
- 23:31it. It means. Two more drivers get seats, right?
- 23:33Yeah, I'm so excited. Rule changes. Rules kind
- 23:35of have to be thrown up a little bit with a 21st,
- 23:3811th team, rather. 22 drivers. Are they bringing
- 23:45their own engine? They are, yeah? They are, yes,
- 23:47but not until 2028. They said that they aren't
- 23:50expecting their new engine until at the earliest
- 23:53end of this decade. Are they taking Merc engine
- 23:58then next year? They're taking the Ferrari engine.
- 24:01Okay, yeah, okay. They're going to take the Ferrari
- 24:03engine. They'll be driving under Ferrari for
- 24:06three to four years, and then they hope to have
- 24:10their own powertrain built by the end of the
- 24:11decade. Ferrari is an American engine manufacturer.
- 24:14I guess. To spark the team with PR and funds,
- 24:19it's going to be Danny Rick and either Sergio
- 24:24makes a return or Yuki. I don't think it can
- 24:28be Sergio because I think... I think only one
- 24:30country like Sergio, like enough for that to
- 24:33like really spike PR, but it's a big country.
- 24:35Checo actually, I think is, is pretty high on
- 24:38the, on the ticket. Yeah. Because I mean, it's
- 24:41an American based company and Mexico and America,
- 24:44uh, you know, or Mexico and the United States,
- 24:47we have a relationship, a lot of. A lot of times
- 24:51when Checo would come to the United States to
- 24:53race, he would have a lot of fans that would
- 24:55show up here. Kev's pulling up Logan Sargent.
- 24:57Kev thinks Logan Sargent will be in the American
- 24:59team. We do need to bring up... I do actually
- 25:02want to point out that Cadillac did actually
- 25:05make an announcement today talking about how
- 25:08if they are going to have an American driver,
- 25:11it will be... on merit alone they are not going
- 25:14to pick up an american driver strictly because
- 25:16they are american if they are going to take an
- 25:19american driver it will be for merit right right
- 25:21and that was in an outfit from cadillac today
- 25:23i don't think they have i'm cool with that i
- 25:25don't think they really have any there is a driver
- 25:27that they're looking at from indycar i forget
- 25:29his name but uh One of the top? Michael and...
- 25:33Hunter Ray. Hunter Ray really likes him. Something
- 25:36like that, yeah. He's an IndyCar driver. An American.
- 25:39I'm trying to think. There's been the last champion.
- 25:42Oh, no. Colton Herta. That's it, yes. Colton
- 25:45Herta, yeah. He is kind of a hot topic button
- 25:48right now. Interesting. There are... Uh, if,
- 25:51if there's any chance of an American driving
- 25:53for Cadillac, he's your, yeah, but a different,
- 25:55it's still open wheel racing, but it's a different
- 25:58motor sport. So it's interesting. Yeah. And we've
- 26:01seen the other way around. But going from Indy
- 26:04to Formula One is going to be different. I mean,
- 26:06you know, you hear it all the time. Formula One
- 26:08is like, you know, the pinnacle, the top. Right.
- 26:11Obviously, Premiere. You ask you ask someone.
- 26:14Kev said NASCAR off screen. You ask someone else.
- 26:16They're going to disagree with you, which is
- 26:18fine. I think you're right, though. Danny Rick
- 26:21would be a good PR choice. I don't think he'd
- 26:23be a good choice in the car. Just for like one
- 26:24year, two years, just one, two years. And that's
- 26:27it. But he's a resident. I mean, he's like, you
- 26:29know, he's an Australian American. So true. I
- 26:32would love to see it. Danny's my favorite driver.
- 26:34I would love to see it. Danny has already stated
- 26:36the fact that he is not coming back to Formula
- 26:38One. Right, correct. He has. I don't see it happening.
- 26:45That was before Cadillac being announced. You
- 26:49are correct. So it is possible that his tune
- 26:51could change. They need to bring some Red Bull
- 26:53money, though. With enough zeros, I mean, Danny
- 26:56could be like, you know what? What's one or two
- 26:58more seasons? I don't think they're going to
- 26:59do it. I don't think he's going to do it. I think
- 27:01it's just the drain from everything and the emotional
- 27:05drain from everything he went through at Red
- 27:07Bull when he left there. I just don't see him
- 27:09coming back. I think a really good contender
- 27:11for a driver would be Botas' mullet. I think
- 27:15Botas is either. Botas is Mullet. Oh, just as
- 27:19Mullet. Just as Mullet for Cadillac. Yeah, that
- 27:21actually tracks. I hope they put it on the car.
- 27:24Yeah, yeah. Yes. Okay, real quick. FIA swearing
- 27:28debacle. Okay, this is like old news at this
- 27:31point, right? It is. Can we just agree how stupid
- 27:34this is? It is extremely dumb. But it also goes
- 27:37really deep. Like, into... Like, you can't make
- 27:42any... you know religious statements either or
- 27:46any what was the other thing uh like like in
- 27:50one of the other podcasts i was listening to
- 27:52the other day actually not today but um somebody
- 27:55was like so if a if a driver happens to be you
- 27:59know a christian or religious or whatever and
- 28:02they're off to the side praying or doing whatever
- 28:03they need to be doing well if the camera catches
- 28:06them how do you deal with that you know what
- 28:09i mean i'm like seeing to me like that's messed
- 28:11up you know so yeah i don't know it would have
- 28:15to be turning into a dictatorship unfortunately
- 28:18like that's that's a really interesting scenario
- 28:21i i would i would hope that it would have to
- 28:24be on the production team then and they would
- 28:26have to pay a fine Or they would have to get
- 28:28scolded, right? Because you can't stop a driver
- 28:30from their religious beliefs. Yeah, of course.
- 28:32And, I mean, swearing is crazy, too, right? Because,
- 28:36especially post -race, you know, if something
- 28:37happens, like, don't get me wrong, yes, sure,
- 28:40they're role models. Yeah, don't give me that.
- 28:41I know, I know. Every athlete, sure, is considered
- 28:45a role model, whether they want to be or not.
- 28:47They are considered to be one, right? And, like,
- 28:49yes, you don't need to be F this, F that, every
- 28:51other word. But, like, you're getting out of
- 28:53a race, and energy's high, everything's high.
- 28:56And you let something slip, but now you're going
- 28:58to get suspended a month because that was the
- 29:00third time you let it slip. You know what I mean?
- 29:02Like, that's dumb. I'm kind of curious on that
- 29:06train, though. So obviously the one that really
- 29:10kind of pushed all this down is Mohammed bin
- 29:12Sulaym, right? And obviously a lot of people
- 29:14are not happy with him. And so at the end of
- 29:19this season, they're doing another vote for who
- 29:21is going to be the next FIA president. And his
- 29:25biggest competitor is Susie Wolf. Really? Interesting.
- 29:30That is his biggest competitor. And I'm kind
- 29:34of curious your guys' opinions, but I know there's
- 29:37a lot of... We don't want to get into that right
- 29:40now. There have been some people who have come
- 29:42up and stated the fact that... There are some
- 29:45people who have come up and stated the fact that...
- 29:48um it could create a problem because obviously
- 29:50suzy is married to toto who is a team principal
- 29:53for one of the teams and that could create a
- 29:54conflict of interest and a bunch of team principals
- 29:57and team owners have shown up and been like we
- 29:59love suzy we don't have a problem with it really
- 30:02yeah and even even christian horner himself has
- 30:05come out and stated the fact of like like saying
- 30:07i wouldn't have a problem i think suzy wolf would
- 30:09do a great job running the fia which is That
- 30:13kind of speaks volumes a little bit. That's interesting.
- 30:17I love the idea of Susie Wolfe. I do think a
- 30:20conflict of interest is present with her being
- 30:24married to Toto and also her running F1 Academy
- 30:26currently. She wouldn't be able to do that anymore.
- 30:29She would probably step down from her position
- 30:31as F1 Academy. Her being married to one of...
- 30:37It's tough. That's a tough situation, and I feel
- 30:39like because of that, it probably can't happen,
- 30:41but I would like to see her in that position.
- 30:44Unfortunately... Somebody other than MBS, please.
- 30:46That's it. Unfortunately, so much drama was around
- 30:49it. I would, too. I just think it's going to
- 30:52be followed by so much drama. It's going to be
- 30:54so tiring. Her job is going to be overshadowed
- 30:57because she's married to one of the team principals.
- 31:00I would love her. I think she would be a great
- 31:03fit. I just think it might be too... might not
- 31:05be worth it to be honest um but that being said
- 31:08mbs has got to go mbs has to go right like it's
- 31:11yeah bad all right so anyways we got yeah we
- 31:14gotta keep rolling we gotta keep rolling uh probably
- 31:16gonna have to go through these rule changes quick
- 31:18um there's just a few of them here uh no more
- 31:22fastest lap point this season i think we touched
- 31:24on that at the end of last season um quick just
- 31:28very quick thoughts uh what do you think mike
- 31:31i hate it i want it I want my fast slot. You
- 31:34lose a little strategy you might not have had
- 31:37beforehand. It's a bummer. You gain a little
- 31:39more strategy, though, I think, if you're not
- 31:41worrying about it as much. But it was a nice
- 31:44little moment. It was also... It was just extra
- 31:47points here and there. I think I mentioned this
- 31:48before. This is a bad fast lap is bad to have
- 31:51when you have a team with four cars on the grid,
- 31:53which we do currently. Yeah. And what happened
- 31:56in Singapore can happen at any point where Danny
- 31:58outside of the points can steal fastest lap and
- 32:00give Max, you know, head up. That's where it's
- 32:03kind of bad. See, and for me, that's not it's
- 32:06just a non factor. But it happened, you know,
- 32:09for sure. Like, be faster. I don't know. You
- 32:11know what I mean? Like, you know, you're going
- 32:16to set me off. No, he isn't. All right. All right.
- 32:20You're going to tell me you're going to tell
- 32:22me that another driver from a different team
- 32:24pits outside of the point to get new tires to
- 32:27get fastest lap. Sure. You want to pit that against
- 32:29someone who's been driving their tires hard in
- 32:31first place the entire race. Ideal. crazy i was
- 32:37gonna lose it all right uh let's see i will uh
- 32:41driving driving cooling systems in place for
- 32:44temps over 31 degrees celsius that's 87 .8 degrees
- 32:47fahrenheit for us here in the u .s sorry go ahead
- 32:52what's up oh i was just gonna say you had a point
- 32:54we watched dts george last year at singapore
- 32:57looked like he was about to die yeah this is
- 33:00a pretty good rule change i feel like you know
- 33:02uh And especially since every team has to use
- 33:05it if they're implementing it. So, you know,
- 33:07we don't have to worry about like weight or whatever.
- 33:09So let's see. Essentially, drivers can only participate
- 33:13in four of the 20 days of the testing of previous
- 33:15car during those four days. Drivers cannot exceed
- 33:19a thousand kilometers. But again, for us, 621
- 33:22miles total. I don't I don't think that's a massive
- 33:26deal for me. uh personally but if you guys just
- 33:29a rule change yeah you know whatever uh long
- 33:32story short let's see i must have summed this
- 33:34one up sorry uh now need to run teams now need
- 33:37to run a rookie twice per car in a year during
- 33:41fp1 uh last season was only once per car uh these
- 33:45rookies must have participated in no more than
- 33:48two f1 races in their career I don't hate that.
- 33:52I like that. Give the rookies more time to practice.
- 33:55100%. Less garbage, hopefully, later down the
- 33:58road. Again, in a nutshell, I summed this one
- 34:01up too, sorry. I don't know why I'm reading my
- 34:03own notes. Teams are restricted to their... DRS
- 34:07having only two positions, open and closed. I
- 34:10think we remember a couple times last year there
- 34:11were some wing discrepancies with the DRS. I
- 34:15believe we already saw some weird moments in
- 34:21testing where cars looked like their wings were
- 34:24going back a little bit. I think it was all within
- 34:26limits, but we still saw a little bit of some
- 34:29flexing here and there. I mean, you know, whatever.
- 34:34Let's see. Six, quality stuff. If a qualifying
- 34:38can't take place, which is determined by the
- 34:40stewards, then grid placement will be based on
- 34:42current WDC standings, which I like personally.
- 34:46Same goes for sprint quality. If WDC can't be
- 34:49used, like a .k .a. race number one, then the
- 34:52starting grid would be up to the stewards discretion.
- 34:54That I hate. But how else are you going to do
- 34:57it? It's like you're limited to one race out
- 34:59of 24. It's probably never going to happen. Oh,
- 35:01well, yeah, right. It is good because we this
- 35:04was in because. brazil we had to they had to
- 35:08cancel qualifying and then run it the next day
- 35:10yeah um so it's just good they put in the rule
- 35:13to make sure that if a situation happened again
- 35:15we had something to go off of so going into that
- 35:18things have also been clarified if q2 or q3 can't
- 35:22be completed those that have started a flying
- 35:24lap would be higher than those still yet to leave
- 35:26the pit for an attempt uh so let's say a red
- 35:29flag comes out in q3 and two drivers could not
- 35:31put down any times then they would use the ranking
- 35:34of the two drivers lap times and to determine
- 35:36their grid position. That makes sense. Yep, sure.
- 35:40That seems fair. Let's see. End of season testing
- 35:44changes slightly. Team's first car will still
- 35:46be used by a young driver, which is classified
- 35:48as a driver that has not raced in more than two
- 35:51F1 Grand Prixs. A team's second car is now going
- 35:54to be used as a, quote, mule for the 2026 tires.
- 35:58Yep. uh monaco now a two -stop mandatory race
- 36:02that's that's pretty big that's huge um um i
- 36:07still don't think it's gonna stop it from being
- 36:09a boring race but no i think it'll make it more
- 36:11interesting i mean like slightly it's just it'll
- 36:15make it more interesting from a strategy standpoint
- 36:16because it means that with two stops if teams
- 36:20choose their two stops wisely You could lose
- 36:24a race because your team didn't pitch you at
- 36:26the right time. And so all this means is that
- 36:28Charles won't win this upcoming Monaco. Ferrari's
- 36:32strategy will bite him again. And I feel bad.
- 36:36The curse is back, maybe. No. No. Oh, that sucks.
- 36:42That sucks to hear. I'm not even a Ferrari fan.
- 36:44Get out of here. No way. Let's say what happens
- 36:47last year happened, right? Like, let's say Checo
- 36:50or the two hosses run into a single car, destroy
- 36:54the track and everyone around them. Six rookies,
- 36:56it could happen. Okay, either way, we get a red
- 36:58flag, right? We get a red flag. That's one of
- 37:01the two mandatory pit stops. They still have
- 37:03to make only one. if there's two red flags you
- 37:05could event you could you could eliminate pretty
- 37:08much granted the entire grid needs to decide
- 37:10to eliminate that second you know pit stop because
- 37:13if one person decides to get on new tires and
- 37:15go long they could maybe get overtaken by newer
- 37:19tires it's you know it'll be figured out i think
- 37:21that's kind of the default strategy that's what
- 37:22they did last year i mean like it was literally
- 37:24lap one that we saw the accident happen and everybody
- 37:27pit and put on hearts and said we're gonna do
- 37:29all of monaco in one stint yeah that race was
- 37:31exciting for two minutes yeah for yeah the beginning
- 37:35and then yeah it ended all right all right uh
- 37:37most of those things uh all those rule changes
- 37:40coming from formula1 .com fyi uh bahrain testing
- 37:44uh i don't for me i didn't see anything that
- 37:49really mattered that much um i did have some
- 37:52other than like the bus driving onto the track
- 37:55was insane yeah causing one of the red flags.
- 37:59There was four red flags, and none of them were
- 38:01for actual car reasons. At one point, the lights
- 38:08just turned off. The whole track went dark. A
- 38:12city bus is just driving on the track during
- 38:19a live F1 track session, which is ridiculous.
- 38:23I don't think it could keep up. Anyway. What
- 38:27are your guys' notes on testing? We got to be
- 38:29quick. We got to get to them. The things that
- 38:33I wanted to bring up were just the fact that
- 38:34looking at some of the times and stuff like that,
- 38:36I know a lot of people were getting hung up on
- 38:38how fast cars were going. They were like, Williams
- 38:42is up at the top. This is going to be our season.
- 38:45I think people need to understand that a lot
- 38:48of teams took very rational looks at what they
- 38:51wanted to do. There were only two teams that
- 38:53brought soft compound tires. Yeah, Aston showed
- 38:56up with three intermediate. Those were Ferrari.
- 38:58Hey, it rained. And they used that round in Bahrain.
- 39:01I know, I know. But three to Bahrain is insane.
- 39:05Ferrari and Williams both brought soft compound
- 39:07tires, and that's why they seemed so fast in
- 39:09testing. Notably teams that looked really good
- 39:13that were taking long fuel loads and were focusing
- 39:18more on numbers and statistics and things like
- 39:21that were the teams that people are expecting
- 39:23to do good, like McLaren and Haas. So I'm just
- 39:29saying. Drinking the Kool -Aid. I'm just saying.
- 39:31But Haas was on that same thing as your team.
- 39:33Are you about to tell me that Haas is comparable
- 39:35to McLaren this year? They're going to win. You're
- 39:39just delusional. Simply delusional. Yeah. I don't
- 39:46think I had too much more from... Because you
- 39:50hit most of the other stuff. Bus. Rain and Bahrain.
- 39:56Bus. Lights. It's pretty much craziness. With
- 40:01that, Kev, let's head right into our news. And
- 40:14with our quote -unquote news, just a couple things.
- 40:18It's the 75th year anniversary for F1. First
- 40:22look at the liveries that we saw. Did you guys
- 40:27watch it? I watched it live. I don't know if
- 40:29you guys watched it. I did not watch it live.
- 40:30I watched some of it back. I watched it all back,
- 40:33but yeah. Probably won't happen again. Max was
- 40:36pretty miffed that he got booed live when they
- 40:40called out his name. It was pretty funny. And
- 40:43then the best moment, though, was FIA came on
- 40:46screen once in the whole room booed again. Oh,
- 40:48man, it was amazing. It was great. I loved it.
- 40:50Oh, man. It was great. I'm going to have to watch
- 40:51that. Let's see. Okay, so I just put this in
- 40:54here because I want to know if you guys think
- 40:56it's going to be good. I don't know if you've
- 40:57seen the shorts of fans at races last year during
- 41:00the filming of this movie. Which just cracked
- 41:02me up, by the way. But Brad Pitt's F1 movie dropping
- 41:06in June called literally F1, I'm pretty sure.
- 41:09You want to go see it? Is that going to be? I
- 41:10mean, I'm probably going to see it. I mean, F1
- 41:13movies don't come out all the time. Yeah, right.
- 41:15I don't like the story of Brad Pitt, the old
- 41:19grizzled driver, getting back in this. What do
- 41:22you mean? It's just a story about Fernando Alonso.
- 41:25Yeah, but I'd watch that. I don't want to watch
- 41:28Brad Pitt. drive an f1 car i don't know there's
- 41:31just me personally but whatever it's cool that
- 41:33we're getting an f1 movie though i think i think
- 41:35i don't think it's on real tracks like yeah oh
- 41:37yeah no yeah i think it's really cool that they're
- 41:39able to get footage during rate like like you
- 41:42know not during races but on track just like
- 41:44yeah um i don't think it's going to be good but
- 41:47i think i'll probably enjoy it i think i'll probably
- 41:50enjoy it too just turn your brain off watch cars
- 41:53drive in a circle it'll be i'm hoping i don't
- 41:56overanalyze too much and i'm like that's not
- 41:58real you absolutely will with i probably will
- 42:01with lewis as a producer i'm hoping that's fairly
- 42:04minimum yeah so true good point okay Let's see.
- 42:09And then I just put in here shameless DTS plug.
- 42:12Go watch Drive to Survive if you have not yet.
- 42:14It was really good. It was a really good season.
- 42:18If you want to see every single episode Christian
- 42:20Horner just say something mean, that's a good
- 42:24place to watch it happen. It starts off hot,
- 42:27too, with Christian Horner. Go watch that. I
- 42:30don't think I knew who Flavio was until I watched
- 42:33DTS. He's one of my new favorite characters.
- 42:38I love him. I was so excited when I heard he
- 42:40was coming back. I was like, oh my gosh. He's
- 42:43like the evil genius. He's great. With that,
- 42:47Kev. I do have one thing. This is breaking news
- 42:50today. Oscar re -signs multi -year deal with
- 42:54McLaren. That happened earlier today, a couple
- 42:57hours ago. The crowd goes mild. What? What? What?
- 43:03The crowd goes mild. What do you mean the crowd
- 43:05goes mild? Because we know what's going to happen.
- 43:08McLaren obviously wants to keep a very strong
- 43:11driver and he wants to stay with a car that's
- 43:13possibly going to win. Yeah, no, totally. But
- 43:15it was not unexpected. This is like the same
- 43:17equivalent of news as Lance re -signs to Aston.
- 43:21Yeah, no duh. Well, not necessarily because Oscar
- 43:25wants to win himself, right? Oh, God, it's going
- 43:29to get into my predictions. Do we just continue
- 43:32on? Let's just continue on. Kev, let's head into
- 43:34Australia. GP starting off with up to speed.
- 43:48Right. It is. time for uh our fated recap of
- 43:53the race coming up this upcoming weekend uh this
- 43:57year's australian race is called formula one
- 43:59louis vuitton australian grand prix 2025 as always
- 44:03that's new this year yep that's new this year
- 44:06last year was heineken i can't remember no rolex
- 44:10no that doesn't make sense we're just throwing
- 44:11everything out there because every other race
- 44:13is heineken and rolex and it's united airways
- 44:17or whatever As always, a quick fun fact. It's
- 44:20held in Melbourne, Victoria, and is one of the
- 44:22oldest motorsport competitions in Australia.
- 44:25Another fun fact, an Australian driver has never
- 44:28finished on the podium here since it joined the
- 44:30World Championship in 1985. We have two Australians
- 44:33on the track, one of them in a very fast car.
- 44:36We could see that broken this week. Who actually
- 44:38could be a winner this week. He could. He could.
- 44:41So heading into last year's race, it was, I would
- 44:45say, Probably one of the most exciting races,
- 44:48at least in a while, because of some of the stuff
- 44:51that happened very early on. We'll get into.
- 44:53The start was Max to Carlos to Lando to Charles.
- 44:57Lights out and the top four remain in their respective
- 44:59positions. Max getting a good start and Carlos
- 45:01keeping incredibly close behind in turn one.
- 45:04On the long DRS straight after turn eight on
- 45:06lap two, Carlos utilizes his DRS, taking the
- 45:09lead right before the entry of turn nine, slotting
- 45:11it ahead of Verstappen. And as a reminder, if
- 45:14Max won this race, race it would be his 10th
- 45:16consecutive race win uh two laps later carlos
- 45:20still leading max start to smoke before turn
- 45:22six bellowing through the drs zone as his brakes
- 45:25start to disintegrate yep before the pit lane
- 45:28he begins to slow allowing cars to overtake him
- 45:31as he heads for the garage his right rear brake
- 45:33exploding on pit entry for the first time in
- 45:3610 races we have a fight for the lead without
- 45:38a red bull in the mix Lap 17, another WDC experiences
- 45:42some car troubles as Lewis pushes through an
- 45:44engine failure, slowing himself down while already
- 45:47having less than a superior race in 16th. He's
- 45:50the second in retirement of the day. He brings
- 45:52out the first virtual safety car. Lap 21, the
- 45:55last Red Bull and Mercedes fight for sixth place.
- 45:58Perez ultimately taking the place from George.
- 46:00He makes the move on Alonso for fifth a few laps
- 46:02later. Lap 29, Piastri is asked to swap places
- 46:05with Norris, giving him the final podium position
- 46:07and putting himself out of the running for the
- 46:08first Australian. podium it is a battle between
- 46:11Ferrari versus McLaren signs holding superiority
- 46:14throughout the entire race keeping a gap of around
- 46:1610 seconds to Norris by lap 37 further down the
- 46:20grid we get to see some exciting fights for the
- 46:22final point positions KMAG swerving behind Albon
- 46:24trying to find an overtaking opportunity in lap
- 46:2743 this fight continues on 44 with a lunge to
- 46:30the inside on turn 11 almost colliding into the
- 46:32side of Albon only to meet once more on that
- 46:3445 finally making the move stick and gaining
- 46:3711th place with his teammate Hulkenberg in 10th.
- 46:40On the final lap of the race, we watch George
- 46:43Russell trail Fernando up to turn six. Right
- 46:47before the corner, we see George rocking ahead,
- 46:49making up an unbelievably amount of room to the
- 46:53back of the Aston Martin, unexpectedly for us
- 46:55viewers, and unfortunately for Russell as well.
- 46:57He loses control of his Mercedes as he approaches
- 47:00the back of Alonso, finds himself into the gravel,
- 47:02into the wall, and then back in the middle of
- 47:04the track at a 45 degree angle. Both of his wheels
- 47:07snapped and relocated underneath him. All the
- 47:10while, Carlos crosses the finish line four seconds
- 47:13ahead of his teammate for first place, Lando
- 47:15trailing them a few more seconds behind. The
- 47:17final signs to Leclerc, to Norris, to Piastri,
- 47:21to Perez. George's crash did lead to an investigation
- 47:24against Alonzo, who eventually got a 20 -second
- 47:26drive -through penalty after the race. Last year,
- 47:30that penalty was a huge talking point after the
- 47:33race because it was... Alonzo didn't touch him
- 47:37he didn't touch Alonzo but something happened
- 47:40there where he just he caught up to Alonzo way
- 47:42too quickly was not expecting it and then lost
- 47:45control and eventually Alonzo was was penalized
- 47:48for it it was it was a lot I remember I remember
- 47:52uh media after not media but social media why
- 47:56the heck he did it yeah social media after was
- 47:58just going after george because it was obviously
- 48:01like he he can't drive that's why he crashed
- 48:03and i'm like i don't know man he took that way
- 48:06differently than beforehand yeah that's true
- 48:09i don't know it wasn't was it was 20 second drive
- 48:11-thru harsh yes way too harsh was a penalty probably
- 48:15needed maybe i don't know my favorite is the
- 48:18line that he tried to when when uh It was like
- 48:22somebody came up and asked him, like, oh, Alonzo,
- 48:25why do you think you got that penalty? And he
- 48:27looked him straight in the eyes and went, because
- 48:29I'm Spanish. And then just kept on. Oh, my gosh.
- 48:34I love Alonzo, dude. He's so funny. All right,
- 48:38all right, all right. So before we do our Australia
- 48:41picks. We came up with new rules for our picks
- 48:44this year. So last year, you know, we picked
- 48:48the podium, right? Whatever, in whatever order.
- 48:50If they're on the podium, we get a point for
- 48:52each driver on the podium. So a maximum of three
- 48:54points. Then we'd have random bonus points here
- 48:56and there. Whatever. This year, we're still going
- 48:59to do the one point per driver. But we decided
- 49:03that if you pick... like like if my podium was
- 49:06uh wow i almost said max sergio that's funny
- 49:09uh max lando charles or whatever and it finished
- 49:12max lando charles and my max points is six right
- 49:15yes you so you get an extra point if you place
- 49:17them in the correct podium position as well as
- 49:20already getting a point for them just being on
- 49:21your podium okay okay okay yep so you got it
- 49:24all right fair enough well keep up with that
- 49:26that is our that is our new rule uh mike you're
- 49:29you're the you're the Yeah, you're the beauty
- 49:32on the pod, I guess. Okay. It's in the beard.
- 49:35What do we got in Australia this week? So, in
- 49:38order, though. First, second, third. Or you can
- 49:40go three, two, one. I don't care. Can I guess
- 49:41what your podium's going to be? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 49:42It's going to be Bierman. It's going to be Esteban.
- 49:45And then they're not going to have a third one
- 49:47because everyone else is going to crash, right?
- 49:48No, it's going to be Alonzo. What are you talking
- 49:50about? Oh, God. Come on. No, okay. So, my podium
- 49:54is hilariously boring. I think Lando's going
- 49:58to win. I think in second place is going to be,
- 50:02uh, I think in second place is going to be Oscar.
- 50:05And I think in third place is going to be Charles
- 50:07Leclerc, man. Honestly, I was expecting something
- 50:11crazier. It kind of gives me an insight into
- 50:13what your like whole year predictions are going
- 50:15to be a little bit. And there might just be similar
- 50:17to mine. It's honestly like I. Would love to
- 50:24get crazy and be like, oh, there's going to be
- 50:26some like Lewis Hamilton is just going to pop
- 50:28off and is going to win this. No, he won't. So
- 50:31I'm sorry. I wasn't putting Lewis on my podium.
- 50:39I think you should go next because I lost horribly
- 50:41last year. Oh, wait, did we tie last year? I
- 50:44think we did. I think you and I tied and then
- 50:46Tyler and Cole tied. Feels good to lose something
- 50:48with someone else. Ditto. I think, um, let's
- 50:53see. Oh my God. Um, Ooh. Hmm. I think, uh, God.
- 51:09Okay. Yeah. I, uh, I'm going to go Oscar Lando.
- 51:16Nah, nah. Oscar Charles. This is crazy right
- 51:20here. Oscar Charles George. Okay. I don't hate
- 51:24that. He's changing it up. I don't hate it. I
- 51:26think something happens to Lando at his home
- 51:29track. You know what? It's not his home track.
- 51:31It's not his home track. Isn't he Australian?
- 51:32He's British. Oh, he's British. Never mind. I'm
- 51:34sorry, but still. No British bias here, folks.
- 51:36No British bias here. We love you. Something
- 51:38weird is going to happen to Lando this race.
- 51:41Not super negative, but something goofy is going
- 51:43to be. That's some gut instinct. Oscar wins is
- 51:47nuts. I love it. It is nuts. I'm also Oscar first.
- 51:52Just for the dream, I want it to happen. I'd
- 51:55love Oscar to win it. Oscar first. Lando second.
- 52:02And I actually don't know if I agree with my
- 52:05second and third, but I still like them for the
- 52:07podium. So Oscar, Lando, and then Max. Max, I
- 52:11thought about Max, too. We're pretty much almost
- 52:15there. Do we want to start talking about how
- 52:17we think the teams are going to do and look at
- 52:19our constructors and stuff? Yeah, but we definitely
- 52:22got to make it quick, which sucks because this
- 52:24is the hardest part. I think we got this. I think
- 52:28there's only going to be a little bit of bickering
- 52:29going back and forth, so that's okay. Well, I
- 52:31think constructors is where it gets weird. Do
- 52:34you want to do WDC first? Let's do WDC first.
- 52:37All right, WDC. Or should we do constructors
- 52:39first? Let's do WDC first. Okay. And then let's
- 52:45go. Give us your fifth driver. My fifth driver
- 52:48is going to be George Russell. George Russell.
- 52:51Oh, that's crazy. So is mine. You son of a B.
- 52:54That's crazy. uh okay well i guess i already
- 52:57said mine uh mike who's getting fifth in the
- 53:00wdc this max first happened max whoa whoa you're
- 53:05insane but i love it i love that prediction so
- 53:09much fifth for max wow all right so like can
- 53:12we just talk about it for a second do you think
- 53:14you don't think red bull's gonna going to make
- 53:16it this year, eh? I don't think Red Bull's going
- 53:18to make it this year. I definitely don't think
- 53:19Red Bull's... I think Red Bull's got a car, and
- 53:21I think that they're going to do some stuff this
- 53:23year, and we'll talk about it when we get it.
- 53:25But we're talking WDC. I'm just so excited. I
- 53:28apologize. We're talking WDC. I think Max is
- 53:32going to drive the hell out of that car. Oh,
- 53:35man. And I could see him swapping with fourth
- 53:39for whatever it's worth. i don't i don't see
- 53:42him in the top three okay i don't see a world
- 53:43where he's in the top three okay um okay just
- 53:45just to be clear points for this is just you
- 53:48make it or you don't yeah right no that's cool
- 53:51we're not doing like if you're close or anything
- 53:53like that it's just you make it or you don't
- 53:54yep cool do we want to do the same thing with
- 53:56how we're doing each weekend where it's like
- 53:58this is our top five and if you hit him in the
- 54:01correct position then you get two points instead.
- 54:04What are we talking about? Points for WDC standings.
- 54:07Do we want to just do, you either get a point
- 54:09or you don't? Or do we want to do, this is our
- 54:11top five. If they make it in the top five, we
- 54:13get a point. At the end of the season? Yeah.
- 54:15Yeah, I think just the end of the season. Well,
- 54:17yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But like, do we want
- 54:19to just do one point each or two points if you
- 54:22get them in the correct spot too? Like we're
- 54:23doing each weekend. Oh, I got you. That's my
- 54:25question. Yeah, I would agree. Yeah, one point
- 54:28if they're in the top five, but two points if
- 54:30they're in the correct spot. So we could be guaranteed
- 54:31points no matter what. Okay, I'm down for that.
- 54:33Yeah, that's fine by me. So WDC and then Constructors,
- 54:35I think we should just keep it on point. One
- 54:38for one. One for one. Yep. Okay. So Mike, you
- 54:41should start at four then. So then I'm starting
- 54:43at four. I am putting Lewis Hamilton at fourth.
- 54:46Oh, my gosh. What is this dude on? That's interesting.
- 54:48I think Ferrari's got a car in front of them.
- 54:50That's interesting. Fair enough. That means you
- 54:51think Charles is probably going to be up there,
- 54:52too, I think. Do I? You don't like Charles, though.
- 54:57Wow. How angry would you be when I tell you Charles
- 55:00is going to be an 18? Charles is my fourth. Charles
- 55:02is your fourth? Yep. Charles is my fourth. Oh,
- 55:06my God. Okay, and my fourth is Oscar. How dare
- 55:11you? Is that low? Maybe not unrealistic if I'm
- 55:16going to be real with you. I thought about putting
- 55:18Oscar in the same position, but I didn't. We
- 55:21were all different. Lewis, Charles, and Oscar
- 55:23in four. I'm up for three. That's where Max is
- 55:27going for me. In the WDC. I'm thinking about
- 55:31making a late change. Don't do it. But you got
- 55:34to go on the fly, dog. I'm going to make a late
- 55:36change. Oh, here it is. No, he's calling an audible.
- 55:38I go last. I go last. He goes last. I'm going
- 55:41next. He goes last. Number three. I've got Oscar
- 55:44Piastri. Oscar's three. Okay. I think that's
- 55:46a safe spot for Oscar. I'm going to do something
- 55:48crazy. You guys are going to hate me for it.
- 55:51I'm putting Max in third. I mean, that's what
- 55:53I did. I hear you. I'm switching my second. He
- 55:55was my second, but I'm putting someone else in
- 55:57second. You guys know who they're going to be.
- 56:00Okay. Oscars in second. And then Lando's winning
- 56:03the WDT for you. So it's going to be Oscar and
- 56:05Lando for the rest of mine. Unbelievable. Okay.
- 56:08That's crazy. Yeah, you know what? I feel better
- 56:10about that because I think to a degree, to a
- 56:12degree, I think you're right. I don't think the
- 56:14Red Bull is going to be as strong as it was last
- 56:15year. I still think Max is going to bring it.
- 56:18Don't get me wrong, but I don't think the car
- 56:21is going to be as good as a McLaren. I don't
- 56:22think the car is going to be there. I just think
- 56:24that Max is a generational talent. Yep. we have
- 56:28to say our number our champion at the same time
- 56:30okay so you guys are doing oh we're just gonna
- 56:33we're just gonna say our champion yeah at the
- 56:35same time let's there's no way you're saying
- 56:37something different all right can i count it
- 56:40down yeah you got three two one Yes, sir. I think
- 56:48Charles. Lando's finishing second to Charles.
- 56:53What's your second? I think Charles is in second.
- 56:57I think Charles. I think this is going to be
- 57:00a really, really tight fight between Charles
- 57:02and Lando this year. I think both cars are going
- 57:05to be really, really fast. And I think both of
- 57:09them are equivalent skill. I just think that...
- 57:15The McLaren's going to be a tough car to beat.
- 57:17The McLaren's going to be tough. Out of the gate,
- 57:19for sure. So you and I, same top five. Not in
- 57:23the same order, but same top five. You're the
- 57:25only one that had someone else other than us.
- 57:27You did not have... Who do you not have in yours?
- 57:34You don't have George. You have Lewis. You do
- 57:37not have George. Lewis is my six. Yeah, Lewis
- 57:41is my six as well. Now, can I just really quickly?
- 57:44Yes, absolutely. Just run through the others
- 57:46really quickly. Run through it. Because you're
- 57:48going to blow your mind. Make sure to say their
- 57:49number. Six. So for six, I've got Russell. For
- 57:53seven, I've got Lawson. For eight, I've got Antonelli.
- 57:56No. Yep. For nine, I have Esteban Ocon. You're
- 58:01high. This dude is high. Hold on. Hold on. Chat,
- 58:05clip that. For ten, I have Peter Gasly. For 11,
- 58:10I have Fernando Alonso. For 12, I have Oliver
- 58:13Bierman. For 13, I have Carlos Sainz. 14, I have
- 58:17Lance Stroll. 15, I have Albon. 16, I have Tsunoda.
- 58:2217, I have Franco Calapinto. 18, I have Isaac
- 58:28Kajar. 19, I have Jack Dewitt. 20, I have Nico
- 58:33Hulkenberg. And 21, I have Gabriel Bortoletto.
- 58:36How are you going to put Jack so low, but Pierre
- 58:38so high? Because that's that big of a difference.
- 58:44He's going to do five races and get replaced
- 58:46by Franco. Wow. That's my crazy prediction. That
- 58:50is the word on the street, though. Your prediction
- 58:52is so base. It's crazy, bro. I think Jack gets
- 58:55until at least summer, and then he gets pulled.
- 58:57Yeah, I think he's going to get pulled into summer
- 58:59break. You put Ocon in. In top ten. In ten. You
- 59:02put Ocon above Alonzo. I want you to remember
- 59:04that. And I'm going to remember that too. So
- 59:06this is me entirely saying this is a bit of a
- 59:09spoiler for my constructors. I thoroughly think
- 59:13that Aston Martin is going to be terrible this
- 59:16year. You're going to hate my constructors. How
- 59:18do we want to do constructors? Do you just want
- 59:19to list them all off? I think we should start
- 59:20from the bottom like we did. Who's your ten then?
- 59:25Who's your ten, Haas? Kicksauber. Oh, come on.
- 59:27Well, that's probably, uh, that's my, that's
- 59:29my 10 to my 10 as well. Kicks out. I mean, we
- 59:32don't, we don't even need to talk about kicks
- 59:33out here, but like, let's be real there. They're
- 59:35just playing the waiting game till they're already.
- 59:37All right. So let me change. What's uh, what's
- 59:39your nine? My nine, uh, V carb. Oh, my God, dude.
- 59:44I think V -Carb. I think, okay, so in my logic,
- 59:48Red Bull. I'm making a late change again. Red
- 59:50Bull is struggling this year. And we all agree
- 59:51that we think Red Bull is going to struggle this
- 59:53year. So if Red Bull is struggling, how is their
- 59:56sister team going to be good? Right? You're right.
- 1:00:00If the main team is doing poorly, how is the
- 1:00:02sister team going to do well? No, the sister
- 1:00:04team is going to struggle, too. It's a valid
- 1:00:05argument. It's a valid argument. And V -Carb
- 1:00:07was struggling at the end of last season, too.
- 1:00:09We saw it. They were probably the slowest car
- 1:00:11on the grid in Abu Dhabi. So I'm just saying.
- 1:00:16They were losing to kick saubers. I'm just saying.
- 1:00:22So, call me crazy. Call me crazy. I think I'm
- 1:00:26cooking here. You are crazy. You know what's
- 1:00:31funny about you saying that? You know what's
- 1:00:33funny about you saying that? It's because my
- 1:00:35nine is also Haas. I'm sorry, man. Listen, it's
- 1:00:41not the car. It's the drivers, okay? Oh, you
- 1:00:44know what? Actually, fair. Honestly, I'll accept
- 1:00:47that answer. If you did not have Ocon and you
- 1:00:50didn't have a rookie, I'd put them seventh or
- 1:00:53sixth, honestly. I'm sorry, Kevin. I'm going
- 1:00:55to need five minutes to talk about this when
- 1:00:56we get through this. I mean, yeah. We're going
- 1:00:58to take our time. Yeah, we're running a little
- 1:01:00late. Let's get eight then. Should I start an
- 1:01:03eight? You start an eight. A V -carb. This was
- 1:01:05a late change. I just changed this. That's also
- 1:01:07my eight is also a V -carb. I think V -carb is
- 1:01:10going to be low. My eight is Williams. Okay.
- 1:01:13I think you're wrong, but that's fine. I think
- 1:01:14they've got an amazing lineup, but I don't think
- 1:01:17they're going to bring the car. All right. Let's
- 1:01:20see. I'll go. My seven is actually Williams.
- 1:01:24Okay. Yeah. My seven is Alpine. They were lower.
- 1:01:29Wait, no, they weren't. No, they were at seven.
- 1:01:31I think that's where they were. No, they were
- 1:01:33lower for me. I had them above V -Carb initially,
- 1:01:35but I think you're right. If Red Bull isn't good,
- 1:01:38V -Carb can't be good either. I'm with you. I
- 1:01:41think that's too low for Alpine. I'm putting
- 1:01:43Aston Martin at seven. That's so crazy. I think
- 1:01:47they're going to have a terrible car. And I think
- 1:01:49Alonso is going to carry that team every single
- 1:01:53one of their points. Lance is going to struggle
- 1:01:56so much. I definitely think the Adrian Newey
- 1:01:59effect is not going to kick in this year, but
- 1:02:00they've got to be better than that. They have
- 1:02:02to be. I disagree. I'll just go because Aston's
- 1:02:07my six. I don't think they're going to be. You
- 1:02:11have Williams above Aston. No. Williams is my
- 1:02:14seven. Williams is a seven. You have Alpena above
- 1:02:18Aston. Of course he does. Come on. There's bias
- 1:02:21at this table. Gasly finished hot last year,
- 1:02:26and he was absolutely battling and beating Alonzo.
- 1:02:29I'd like to remind you that you have Jack Doohan
- 1:02:31in your other driver. Correct. And Aston has
- 1:02:33Lance Stroll as their other driver. I'm not really
- 1:02:35worried about it. Yeah, okay. You know what I
- 1:02:38mean? Good point. Once you start getting down
- 1:02:41to the best of the rest, that's exactly what
- 1:02:43it comes down to. It's the second driver, and
- 1:02:45that's where Williams, for me, could absolutely
- 1:02:47jump up to five. We don't know anything about
- 1:02:50Jack. At least Stroll is consistent. Six is Williams.
- 1:02:57I think they're going to be best of the other
- 1:03:00rest. So you have Aston at five. I do have Aston
- 1:03:03at five, yes. I've got Alpine at six. Okay. And
- 1:03:09I think that's a safe place for them. I genuinely
- 1:03:12think that's safe. If Haas is higher than five
- 1:03:15for you, that's absolutely asinine. So you ready
- 1:03:19for my number five? No, hold on. Are we at five?
- 1:03:23Yeah, because yours is Aston. So you ready for
- 1:03:26my number five? It's Haas. I think Haas is at
- 1:03:28number five. Wow. Rather insane. And I'm really
- 1:03:31excited to talk about it. With a rookie driver.
- 1:03:33You just throw your point away like that. That's
- 1:03:35crazy. Okay. Yeah, we'll circle back to that
- 1:03:37before we end. What's your five? My five is Alpine.
- 1:03:40Oh, yeah. That makes sense. That's fair. I think,
- 1:03:42honestly. Who's your five again? No. Aston Martin.
- 1:03:46Aston. Yeah. I mean, Willie. I feel like six.
- 1:03:48Last year, yes. Six through. No. Six through
- 1:03:51eight, I think, is pretty interchangeable. Williams,
- 1:03:53Alpine, V -Carb. I could see any of them taking
- 1:03:55those spots. Yeah. Honestly, five through eight
- 1:03:58for me is going to be... I mean, you saw the
- 1:04:01point total this last year where it was like
- 1:04:05the top teams, Aston Martin in a league of their
- 1:04:07own in fifth, and then the rest of the teams.
- 1:04:09Aston Martin was only 30 points ahead. Yeah,
- 1:04:12but it took a while for the other teams to catch
- 1:04:13up to him. Well, yeah, that's because they blew
- 1:04:16away at the beginning of the season. It could
- 1:04:19happen again. And then completely stopped scoring
- 1:04:20points in the back half. Yeah, they consistently
- 1:04:22do that. Okay, you know what? That is a good
- 1:04:25point. They do tend to be really strong. Okay,
- 1:04:27what do we have? Four? Four, yeah. Oh, you're
- 1:04:30thinking of changing? I'll go then. Fourth, and
- 1:04:33this is purely because they have a rookie on
- 1:04:35their team. It is Mercedes. Sure. That's what
- 1:04:40I have right now. I got to leave it. Okay, what
- 1:04:45do you think? My fourth and third were really
- 1:04:48hard. This is probably the one that I spent the
- 1:04:50most time. um i put red bull at fourth honestly
- 1:04:55i mean they're my third either way i think it
- 1:04:58could flip either way but i i think liam isn't
- 1:05:01gonna bring enough and the car is gonna be bad
- 1:05:03uh that's fair i think third is red bull for
- 1:05:06me yep ditto okay well then we know i mean so
- 1:05:10yours gotta be mercedes for third is mercedes
- 1:05:12yeah that makes sense yep so two more teams we
- 1:05:17all have the top two teams we all have the same
- 1:05:19top two teams just depends on what order you
- 1:05:20already know what i'm doing so you can just put
- 1:05:22it down mclaren's winning it again and ferrari
- 1:05:24in second are you different i think he's different
- 1:05:28i don't think you're different though i think
- 1:05:30you're the same as me i'm not different i think
- 1:05:33mclaren still wins the constructors i think it's
- 1:05:36just like this early in the season it's just
- 1:05:38too hard to tell and they're starting to become
- 1:05:41dominant i think like they're just so fast so
- 1:05:43i just I think the big factor that separates
- 1:05:48the two of them, and I never thought that I would
- 1:05:50say this, it's Lewis Hamilton. Lewis Hamilton
- 1:05:53is not a Ferrari driver. He is, but he isn't.
- 1:05:56He's not yet. He hasn't spent enough time in
- 1:05:59the car yet, and so because of that, he's not
- 1:06:02acclimated enough to this new car. Meanwhile,
- 1:06:04Oscar and Lando are at home in that car. They
- 1:06:08are as comfortable as they can be, and that is
- 1:06:10an advantage that Ferrari can't beat. I 100 %
- 1:06:14agree. McLaren was incredibly... I knew McLaren
- 1:06:18was going to be one because of that reason. McLaren
- 1:06:21have two drivers that have driven their car for
- 1:06:23a while now. Ferrari has a new driver that needs
- 1:06:26to learn a new car, by the way. I still think
- 1:06:28they're going to be fast, and I think Lewis will
- 1:06:30get up to speed and make it. I just don't think
- 1:06:32it's going to be impressive. I put him in my
- 1:06:33top five. I have faith in the guy, but not that
- 1:06:36much faith. I agree. I think Ferrari is going
- 1:06:40to be fast. It is crazy to put Lewis into a brand
- 1:06:42new car. Charles is going to be light years ahead
- 1:06:44of him in that sense, 100%. But there's a reason
- 1:06:48why I picked Charles over either McLaren driver
- 1:06:51to win WDC, and it's because... I think it's
- 1:06:55like McLaren again. Yeah, going to win constructors.
- 1:06:57But I think as far as WDC goes, they're going
- 1:07:01to keep exchanging. you know themselves and then
- 1:07:03charles is going to get everything else i think
- 1:07:05so by the end of the season and i think low -key
- 1:07:08i think low -key i think george gets a win this
- 1:07:10year uh it's going to be early but i think george
- 1:07:14sneaks a win out this year uh max is going to
- 1:07:16do max things you know what i mean he's going
- 1:07:18to make it difficult whether the car is good
- 1:07:20or not he's yep he's still for me the best driver
- 1:07:23on the grid right um but yeah i just uh I think
- 1:07:28there's going to be too much battling. I think
- 1:07:30everything's going to be manby -pamby land early
- 1:07:33season for the papayas. But I think midseason,
- 1:07:38late season, when things are starting to get
- 1:07:39a little more dicey, I don't trust that Lando
- 1:07:43and Oscar are going to play nice together by
- 1:07:45the end of the season. And that's why I'm uneasy
- 1:07:48about Oscar signing that multi -year deal with
- 1:07:50McLaren. Personally, I just, I don't. It's. I
- 1:07:58see what you mean. At some point, Oscar's going
- 1:07:59to be like, I want my shot. I mean, McLaren has
- 1:08:03said before they're not a 1 -2 driver team. Both
- 1:08:06their drivers are their apex drivers, right?
- 1:08:10And I think, yeah, that's going to unfortunately
- 1:08:12cause a couple issues. At some point. It could
- 1:08:14be next year. It could be three years. We don't
- 1:08:16know. I think Oscar could fight for the championship
- 1:08:19this year. I'm going to say that right now. Oscar's
- 1:08:20more aggressive than Lando. Yeah. I think Oscar
- 1:08:23could literally win this thing if he wanted to.
- 1:08:25He's got to figure out how to do. One lap, though.
- 1:08:29He's got to figure out his one lap because his...
- 1:08:32Why am I forgetting the name? Qualifying? Qualifying,
- 1:08:37yeah. His qualifying has struggled. sure i mean
- 1:08:40yeah i think that's fair i mean lando starts
- 1:08:42have has struggled right i think every driver
- 1:08:44has their own thing they need to work on but
- 1:08:45oscar he's had an incredibly strong rookie season
- 1:08:48incredibly strong second season championship
- 1:08:51in his second season like i don't think i don't
- 1:08:53hear enough people talking about that oscar is
- 1:08:55oscar i think is a future wdc and it could be
- 1:08:58this year which would i would be okay with yeah
- 1:09:01crazy as you see it one two yep i mean wdc so
- 1:09:05um you have hassan fifth Yes. I need to argue
- 1:09:08this. Close out with that. I need to argue this.
- 1:09:10So I think that Oliver Bierman is one of the
- 1:09:16better rookie drivers out of all the rest of
- 1:09:20them. He already has experience in the car. We
- 1:09:22saw him drive the car twice last season. And
- 1:09:26he's got an aptitude for it. So I think that
- 1:09:30we're going to see Oliver Bierman do well and
- 1:09:33do better than... uh, some of the other drivers
- 1:09:36given the car or better than some of the other
- 1:09:39rookies given the car. Uh, and I think that in
- 1:09:41regard to Esteban Ocon, I think Esteban Ocon's
- 1:09:44biggest problem in the last couple of years that
- 1:09:48we've seen was Alpine. I think Alpine didn't
- 1:09:51treat him right. And he's gone on record to state
- 1:09:53the fact that Alpine did not treat him right.
- 1:09:55They did not listen to him. They did not work
- 1:09:58with him. And because of that, it created a toxic
- 1:10:00work environment for him. Meanwhile, They're
- 1:10:03known for pushing people out. Right. And meanwhile,
- 1:10:06Ayau has been very open about wanting to work
- 1:10:08with Esteban and has been very open about wanting
- 1:10:11to use his knowledge. And I think the fact that
- 1:10:15right now, because Esteban doesn't have to fight
- 1:10:18against somebody like Pierre or Fernando Alonso,
- 1:10:22he doesn't have to prove himself against a giant
- 1:10:24that he needs to slay. He is the number one driver.
- 1:10:27So he just gets to go out there and be comfortable
- 1:10:30and drive the car for a team that wants him there.
- 1:10:34I think we're going to see a Esteban Ocon that
- 1:10:36we have never seen before. We are going to see
- 1:10:39Esteban Ocon's best season he has ever had. And
- 1:10:43probably ever will have. But damn it, I love
- 1:10:46your passion. I do like your passion. I think
- 1:10:49Esteban Ocon is actually a fairly good driver.
- 1:10:52He's not incredible. You got to be good to be
- 1:10:53on the grid. He's been around for a while. He's
- 1:10:57been around for a while. So like and like he
- 1:11:01has seen he's got race wins. Like how many other
- 1:11:05midfield drivers have race wins? It's really
- 1:11:08not that many. and so like you see it like he's
- 1:11:11got he's got the potential to do it and so i
- 1:11:14think that there's a very real world that we
- 1:11:17watch esteban carry this team to fifth okay along
- 1:11:22with the help of oliver bierman just being a
- 1:11:25talent sure um i could wow i'm an idiot i was
- 1:11:30gonna say i could see them finishing top 10 well
- 1:11:32yeah Yeah, I sure hope so. Holy cow. Anyway,
- 1:11:36what were you going to say, Jordan? Just quick
- 1:11:38counterpoints. Esteban has proved himself every
- 1:11:42now and then, but he's not consistently good.
- 1:11:44He's going into a Haas for the first time this
- 1:11:46year. There's going to be a learning period,
- 1:11:48and that might last him half a season. It's not
- 1:11:50going to be enough to get him a lot of points,
- 1:11:52enough points. His teammate is a rookie. I don't
- 1:11:56think Berman's going to be bad. He did get a
- 1:11:59little bit of experience, but two races, and
- 1:12:01one of them was in the sopping wet. I don't think
- 1:12:03that's enough to say he's going to do great.
- 1:12:06This season's going to be insane. It's a Haas.
- 1:12:08There's no way he's beating an Aston Martin.
- 1:12:10There's just no way. I disagree. There's just
- 1:12:12no way. They were beating the Aston last year.
- 1:12:15Barely. What do you mean barely? They were doing
- 1:12:17it every race. Aston was struggling to get out
- 1:12:20of 15th. They weren't doing it every race because
- 1:12:22Aston Martin beat them by a couple places and
- 1:12:25constructors. Post -summer, Aston was a backmarker.
- 1:12:31post summer aston was not i mean they were a
- 1:12:34lot of most of the bottom field is a back marker
- 1:12:36haas were also back markers like i'm not saying
- 1:12:40aston's good i'm just saying aston's better than
- 1:12:42haas i don't think so and you have two drivers
- 1:12:44who know the car And who know how to drive the
- 1:12:47car. That is the biggest argument. I think you
- 1:12:49have two tenured drivers in their car. It just
- 1:12:51can't happen. This will be interesting for the
- 1:12:54rest of the season. It's an interesting argument.
- 1:12:57Haas or Aston? You know I like Haas. You know
- 1:12:59I dislike Aston. And this is coming from somebody.
- 1:13:03I'm a fan of both teams. I'm a fan of both teams.
- 1:13:06I want to see both teams do well. I dislike the
- 1:13:09people in Aston. I like Alonzo. I like Alonzo,
- 1:13:13I guess. And I like Adrian Newey. Let me put
- 1:13:16my gavel down. We got wrapped. This has been
- 1:13:19great. We're a solid 10 minutes over anticipated
- 1:13:22time. We knew it was going to be a lengthy one.
- 1:13:24I was going to put a disclaimer in the beginning
- 1:13:26and I forgot. Mike, we are excited to have you.
- 1:13:30As much as possible this season. We're excited
- 1:13:33to come back. My voice went a little hoarse.
- 1:13:35I'm sure some people noticed, but I should be
- 1:13:37back. I thought that was just your voice. Shut
- 1:13:39up. Dang. Thank you for coming by. I'm super
- 1:13:43looking forward to having you on more. You have
- 1:13:45crazy takes, apparently. You know what's funny
- 1:13:49about that shirt, Joe? I did just bring a shelf
- 1:13:52over here to store our props. You could keep
- 1:13:55that shirt here and wear it every episode. One
- 1:13:57more thing. Or we could just put it up so he
- 1:13:59has to see it every single time. I thought I
- 1:14:01saw a glimpse of this, and then I thought it
- 1:14:03was rumor. Would you say that... I'm so sorry,
- 1:14:07Kev. I just bummed the mic. Would you say that
- 1:14:09Haas and Fifth is a certain kind of take? Absolutely.
- 1:14:13What would you call it? I would call that a tinfoil
- 1:14:14hat moment. You'd call it a tinfoil hat moment.
- 1:14:17We got the tinfoil hat. It has made its way here.
