- 1:44Speaker 2: Five Minute Friday.
- 1:45Speaker 1: This week, I'm kind of expanding on something that I've
- 1:47Speaker 1: been touching on a fair amount lately, and that is
- 1:50Speaker 1: this feeling of overwhelm and just like.
- 1:55Speaker 2: We're trying to get through it here.
- 1:58Speaker 1: You know, this week especially, it was one of those
- 1:59Speaker 1: weeks I felt like I was doing everything and nothing,
- 2:02Speaker 1: and on Monday and Tuesday, I was sitting at my
- 2:04Speaker 1: desk and staring blankly and feeling unproductive and frustrated. And
- 2:08Speaker 1: I know, having had a lot of conversations with many
- 2:11Speaker 1: of you about this topic, that many of you have
- 2:14Speaker 1: certainly been feeling the same way lately. So lingering in
- 2:20Speaker 1: this feeling was not something that I was really willing
- 2:22Speaker 1: to do. And in an effort to break out of this,
- 2:26Speaker 1: I decided on Wednesday that I would do something different,
- 2:30Speaker 1: and so I decided to ride my bike with a
- 2:33Speaker 1: friend across the GW Bridge, starting early in the morning
- 2:37Speaker 1: at six point thirty and heading up to a donut
- 2:41Speaker 1: shop that we love in Nyac and coming back. And
- 2:45Speaker 1: I think the thing that I love about these bike
- 2:47Speaker 1: rides is honestly just this opportunity to not worry about
- 2:52Speaker 1: a lot of things. You know, when I'm out with
- 2:56Speaker 1: friends and they are leading the way, I don't have
- 2:59Speaker 1: to make a ton of disc visions. I literally only
- 3:01Speaker 1: need to be paying attention to what's going on right
- 3:04Speaker 1: in front of me. I have to look for potholes,
- 3:06Speaker 1: and I have to work my way to climb up hills,
- 3:09Speaker 1: and that is like the extent of the effort, which,
- 3:11Speaker 1: of course, yes, is effort, but for me, it feels
- 3:15Speaker 1: like a different, more welcome type of effort than it
- 3:18Speaker 1: feels to sit at my desk and feel as though
- 3:20Speaker 1: I'm just stuck, if that makes sense. And when I'm
- 3:23Speaker 1: on the bike, my phone is not in front of me.
- 3:26Speaker 1: It's actually tucked in my back pocket. It's hard for
- 3:29Speaker 1: me to reach, which also means that there's no alerts,
- 3:32Speaker 1: there's no emails, there's no texts, there's no dms, there's
- 3:36Speaker 1: no there's there's a lack of a lot in which
- 3:39Speaker 1: I deal with normally through the day, and so on
- 3:44Speaker 1: this ride, I can just have my time. I can
- 3:48Speaker 1: reclaim my time, my sanity. You know, there's no judgment
- 3:54Speaker 1: it's just getting from point A to point B, and
- 3:57Speaker 1: at point B again there's doughnuts and then back to
- 4:00Speaker 1: and that's it. Actually this week, I'm I don't feel
- 4:04Speaker 1: any kind of way about admitting this.
- 4:06Speaker 2: I did this on the way back.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Apparently at McDonald's released spicy chicken nuggets this week, and
- 4:11Speaker 1: we enjoyed them on the right back after eating a donut.
- 4:13Speaker 1: And you know what, I had zero remorse about this,
- 4:16Speaker 1: And that's because, man, it all just.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Felt so good.
- 4:20Speaker 1: And you know, when I got back home and I
- 4:22Speaker 1: showered and I changed, I felt this huge weight lifted
- 4:28Speaker 1: off my shoulders, this huge exhale. I felt more capable
- 4:32Speaker 1: and less angry and more confident, and just like me,
- 4:38Speaker 1: you know, I used to get really frustrated about the
- 4:41Speaker 1: situation that was happening earlier this week, and I'd get
- 4:43Speaker 1: worked up in that. And what I've come to realize
- 4:46Speaker 1: is getting worked up in that it didn't do me
- 4:48Speaker 1: any good. When I came to understand that there were
- 4:51Speaker 1: other things that I could do, other things in my
- 4:55Speaker 1: life that I could control, I was able to let
- 4:57Speaker 1: go of this notion that I might not be able
- 5:00Speaker 1: to immediately get rid of this lingering brain fog.
- 5:03Speaker 2: But I did not have.
- 5:05Speaker 1: To linger in the malaise of this frustration. These days,
- 5:10Speaker 1: instead of doing that lingering, I ask myself what is
- 5:14Speaker 1: possible at this very moment. Now, of course, this concept
- 5:18Speaker 1: can definitely apply beyond this particular situation.
- 5:23Speaker 2: We all have the chance to think big.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Right, So whatever you might be struggling with at this
- 5:28Speaker 1: particular moment, remember that this thing, it's just one part
- 5:33Speaker 1: of your life. You can't forget the rest. Refocus, take
- 5:40Speaker 1: any breath, and keep pushing. Prompt for this week, what
- 5:45Speaker 1: are the important components in your life that you love?
- 5:49Speaker 1: Get really really specific? Again, what are the important components
- 5:54Speaker 1: in your life that you love?
- 5:57Speaker 2: Get really really specific? All right?
- 5:59Speaker 1: Highlights of the week, You guys know the drill, as always.
- 6:01Speaker 1: Links to all of this goodness can be found in
- 6:04Speaker 1: the show notes. First up, eat Cary Foods Dips. I've
- 6:08Speaker 1: talked about Cari on the pod before. A good friend
- 6:10Speaker 1: of mine and her sister they launched Carey Foods at
- 6:13Speaker 1: the end of last year. They are a plant based salad, dressing, marinade,
- 6:17Speaker 1: and sauce company and they are vegan, gluten free, soy
- 6:21Speaker 1: free paleo and have zero preservatives, gums or additives. Basically,
- 6:26Speaker 1: it's really hard to find stuff this good that tastes
- 6:30Speaker 1: so delicious. They recently dropped dips and oh my god,
- 6:35Speaker 1: they're so good, You've got to try it. They've got
- 6:37Speaker 1: spicy ramasco and lemon zatziki and it has completely revolutionized
- 6:43Speaker 1: my snacking game. Next up, listen the Tim Ferris show,
- 6:48Speaker 1: Guy Raz Traits of Successful Entrepreneurs, the Story of How
- 6:52Speaker 1: I Built This, Overcoming anxiety and depression, and more. This
- 6:55Speaker 1: episode shook me, and I think it's because I first
- 7:00Speaker 1: already listening to podcasts about three years ago, right before
- 7:03Speaker 1: I launched Hurdle, and How I Built This was the
- 7:06Speaker 1: first podcast that I got really into, and I had
- 7:09Speaker 1: no clue about Guy suffering from depression. I've never listened
- 7:15Speaker 1: to an interview with him before. It sheds a lot
- 7:18Speaker 1: of light on a lot of the conversations that I've
- 7:21Speaker 1: listened to from him in the past. You never know
- 7:24Speaker 1: what somebody's struggling with unless you ask them. Obviously, we
- 7:27Speaker 1: don't have the opportunity to ask a lot of the
- 7:28Speaker 1: people we admire a lot of hard hitting questions. So
- 7:32Speaker 1: I just felt like this conversation that he had with
- 7:34Speaker 1: Tim Ferriss was really special, super interesting to hear more
- 7:38Speaker 1: about him being a journalist, about how they do things,
- 7:41Speaker 1: on how I built this and I just love to
- 7:43Speaker 1: hear about his story. And you certainly don't need to
- 7:45Speaker 1: be a podcaster or a journalist to appreciate this interview.
- 7:50Speaker 1: Next watch certified young Person Paul Rudd wants you to
- 7:54Speaker 1: wear a mask. God, I just love this. I know
- 7:59Speaker 1: that people are making this whole mask thing like political,
- 8:02Speaker 1: but if you just want a good laugh, you've got
- 8:04Speaker 1: to check out this video. Rudd just he knows how
- 8:08Speaker 1: to hit it, and it's so funny to me, especially
- 8:10Speaker 1: because Paul Rudd literally looks like he hasn't aged a
- 8:14Speaker 1: day since Clueless And I'm really not entirely sure how
- 8:17Speaker 1: that is possible. If you want to ball out, you
- 8:22Speaker 1: can book the original Fresh Prince House for an overnight's day.
- 8:26Speaker 1: I'm so serious. Will Smith getting into the Airbnb game
- 8:30Speaker 1: all bit. Temporarily, they are offering for just thirty dollars
- 8:33Speaker 1: a night if you can get one five different chances
- 8:37Speaker 1: to stay at the Original Fresh Prince House. Seriously, the
- 8:42Speaker 1: only cavey on this is the one night bookings are
- 8:44Speaker 1: only open to groups of two that happened to live
- 8:48Speaker 1: together in the Los Angeles area, but it makes for
- 8:51Speaker 1: a funny story. The booking window for this starts at
- 8:54Speaker 1: eleven am Pacific on September twenty ninth, So next week.
- 8:58Speaker 1: If you happen to fall into this category and you
- 9:00Speaker 1: scoop up one of these days, please Jesus.
- 9:03Speaker 2: Let me know.
- 9:04Speaker 1: And last, but not at least something sweet, send a
- 9:08Speaker 1: sugar wish. This has been around for a while now,
- 9:11Speaker 1: but after talking to y'all about pinatagrams a few weeks back,
- 9:15Speaker 1: I just needed to bring this to the feed as well.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Sugar Wish is literally a candy selection delivery service. You
- 9:22Speaker 1: can send a quote unquote sugar wish to anyone, They
- 9:25Speaker 1: get a notification in their email and then they can
- 9:27Speaker 1: select as many candies as you allot them to arrive
- 9:31Speaker 1: at their door within like a week or two. And
- 9:33Speaker 1: I just think it's the sweetest thing to send someone
- 9:36Speaker 1: when you're thinking about them for our birthday and anniversary
- 9:39Speaker 1: some sort of celebration, just because because really, who doesn't
- 9:44Speaker 1: love candy, especially with Halloween right around the corner. And
- 9:47Speaker 1: that's it for this week. I'm thinking of all of
- 9:49Speaker 1: the hurdlers that are on the West Coast. My heart
- 9:52Speaker 1: is with you as we're seeing more and more coverage
- 9:54Speaker 1: of the fires over there. If there's anything I can
- 9:57Speaker 1: do to help you, please definitely reach out. I'm always
- 10:01Speaker 1: just an email or a d m o y At
- 10:04Speaker 1: Hurdle podcast at Emily a Body, Another hurdle conquered.
- 10:09Speaker 2: Catch you guys next time.
