- Lucas: Velkommen tilbage, Luna. Ready for another episode of Learn Danish with Fexingo? Luna: Ready, Lucas. Last time we were at a bookstore, and I got a book about Danish animals. Lucas: Nice. And that gives us a perfect opening for today's topic — visiting the zoo in Danish. Luna: The zoo? That sounds fun. We haven't done that yet, have we? Lucas: No, we haven't. So let's imagine we're at a Danish zoo. First thing you might ask is, where are the elephants? Luna: Where are the elephants. That's useful. Lucas: In Danish: Hvor er elefanterne? Say it with me: Hvor er elefanterne? Luna: Hvor er elefanterne? Lucas: Perfect. Hvor er means where is. Elefanterne means the elephants. Luna: So literally, where are the elephants. Got it. Lucas: And you could use that pattern for any animal. Hvor er løverne? Where are the lions? Luna: Hvor er løverne? Lucas: Exactly. Now, before you see the animals, you need to get in. So you might say, can I have two tickets? Luna: Can I have two tickets. That's important. Lucas: In Danish: Må jeg få to billetter? Try it, Luna. Luna: Må jeg få to billetter? Lucas: Great. Må jeg få means can I have. To is two. Billetter is tickets. Luna: So, Må jeg få to billetter. Is that what I say at the ticket booth? Lucas: Yes, exactly. And if you want to ask the price, you say: Hvor meget koster billetterne? How much do the tickets cost? Luna: Hvor meget koster billetterne? That's a mouthful. Lucas: It's a bit long, but you'll get it. Hvor meget means how much. Koster means cost. Billetterne means the tickets. Luna: Hvor meget koster billetterne? Let me try that again. Hvor meget koster billetterne? Lucas: You nailed it. And once you're inside, you might want to say what you like. For example, I like the lions. Luna: I like the lions. I definitely like the lions. Lucas: In Danish: Jeg kan godt lide løverne. Try it. Luna: Jeg kan godt lide løverne. Lucas: Great. Jeg kan godt lide means I like. Løverne is the lions. Luna: So I could say, Jeg kan godt lide løverne, when I see them. Lucas: Absolutely. And if you want to ask about a specific animal, like pandas, you say: Kan vi se pandaerne? Can we see the pandas? Luna: Kan vi se pandaerne? Lucas: Yes. Kan vi means can we. Se means see. Pandaerne is the pandas. Luna: Okay, so now I have a bunch of phrases. Let me practice a few. Lucas: Go for it. Luna: Hvor er elefanterne? Må jeg få to billetter? Hvor meget koster billetterne? Lucas: You're doing great. And one more: Jeg kan godt lide løverne, and Kan vi se pandaerne? Luna: Jeg kan godt lide løverne. Kan vi se pandaerne? Lucas: Perfect. Let's put it all together in a little scene. Imagine we're at the zoo entrance. Luna: Okay, I'm the tourist. I say: Må jeg få to billetter? Lucas: And I'm the ticket seller. I say: Hvor meget koster billetterne? Wait, no, that's the tourist asking. Luna: Right, sorry. So I ask: Hvor meget koster billetterne? Lucas: And I say: De koster hundrede kroner. The tickets cost a hundred kroner. But that's extra vocabulary, keep it simple for now. Luna: Okay, so I pay, and then I say: Hvor er elefanterne? Lucas: And I point and say: De er derovre. They're over there. Again, extra, but you get the idea. Luna: Then I say: Jeg kan godt lide løverne. And you say: Kan vi se pandaerne? Lucas: Exactly. You're getting the flow. Luna: This is really useful. I could actually use these phrases if I ever go to a Danish zoo. Lucas: And that's the thing, Luna.
