Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, thanks Mike.
- 0:01Speaker 2: We're back with cracking head coach Lane Lambert Lane back
- 0:04Speaker 2: on home ice on Saturday after a very very long
- 0:07Speaker 2: road trip, pick up the big win three to two
- 0:09Speaker 2: over the Edmonton Oilers. Take us back through that effort,
- 0:12Speaker 2: a really grinding, hard effort for the Kraken that resulted
- 0:16Speaker 2: in two points.
- 0:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I thought, uh, you know, I thought we I
- 0:21Speaker 3: thought we played pretty well at times. You know, I
- 0:27Speaker 3: was happy with our team in terms of our readiness.
- 0:32Speaker 3: There was always the question mark coming off of the
- 0:34Speaker 3: long road trip. What you know, what does the first
- 0:36Speaker 3: game look like? Back to me, that's just an excuse.
- 0:41Speaker 3: I thought our guys did a really good job of
- 0:44Speaker 3: getting rid of that excuse.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Uh.
- 0:47Speaker 3: And you know, I mean, as the game went along,
- 0:49Speaker 3: they're They're obviously a talented team Edmonton. I I felt
- 0:52Speaker 3: like we gave up a few too many chances for
- 0:55Speaker 3: my liking. But at the same time, we knew we
- 1:00Speaker 3: would probably need a pretty good game from our goaltender,
- 1:03Speaker 3: and we got one, and we had a lot of
- 1:05Speaker 3: commitment in certain areas, and I thought, you know, when
- 1:09Speaker 3: they had their push on, I thought we defended well.
- 1:11Speaker 3: There was you know, a couple of pockets in the
- 1:14Speaker 3: third period where we spent a decent amount of time
- 1:18Speaker 3: in our zone, but they were to the outside. And
- 1:24Speaker 3: there's going to be moments like that with every team
- 1:28Speaker 3: during the season where you're maybe hemmed in or under
- 1:31Speaker 3: siege in your zone, and the question is how do
- 1:33Speaker 3: you handle that?
- 1:35Speaker 1: And you know, what kind of chances would you give up?
- 1:38Speaker 3: So I thought we did a pretty good job of that,
- 1:41Speaker 3: and really at the end of the day, we really
- 1:44Speaker 3: capitalized on our opportunities, you know. So it was a
- 1:48Speaker 3: hard fought game, hard fought win.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Speaking of playing in your defensive zone, you were asked
- 1:53Speaker 2: this morning about the number of chances giving up on
- 1:57Speaker 2: the outside, limiting the opportunities in the slot in the house.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Are you I don't want to say okay, but I'm
- 2:02Speaker 2: going to say okay. Are you okay with you know,
- 2:05Speaker 2: as long as you're on the outside those long range shots,
- 2:08Speaker 2: if we spend a few extra minutes in our d zone,
- 2:11Speaker 2: as long as we're keeping them of the outside, or
- 2:13Speaker 2: is that an area that you want to clean up
- 2:15Speaker 2: and push them more out of your zone?
- 2:17Speaker 3: Well, I'd love to I'd love to push us more
- 2:19Speaker 3: out of our zone. Obviously, you know, so that's you know,
- 2:22Speaker 3: that's a focus for us, and and you know, certainly
- 2:26Speaker 3: an area that we need to get better in. But uh,
- 2:29Speaker 3: you know, conversely, when we are in there, our guys
- 2:33Speaker 3: are doing a good job of limiting I guess what
- 2:36Speaker 3: I would call high danger opportunities, you know, which increases
- 2:41Speaker 3: our goaltender's chance to make the safe and gives us
- 2:46Speaker 3: an increased opportunity to win a hockey game.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Jordan every missing forty games last season, coming back from
- 2:51Speaker 2: a very rare injury to be effective this year? What
- 2:55Speaker 2: is he meant to this team now leading the team
- 2:57Speaker 2: and goals, the captain of this team. What have you
- 2:59Speaker 2: seen from him? You know him very well from your
- 3:01Speaker 2: time with the Islanders. Just how has he impacted this
- 3:05Speaker 2: year's squad and how has he helped you, you know,
- 3:08Speaker 2: further that mission and that voice in that locker room.
- 3:11Speaker 3: Yeah, well, I'm you know, we obviously have a relationship
- 3:14Speaker 3: that goes back and had some success together. But certainly,
- 3:18Speaker 3: first of all, he's a good player, you know, and
- 3:21Speaker 3: so he was missed last year. There's no question about it,
- 3:23Speaker 3: not only from the you know, just the playing standpoint,
- 3:26Speaker 3: but certainly from a leadership standpoint.
- 3:29Speaker 1: He has been a great captain.
- 3:32Speaker 3: He's done everything that you know a leadership guy and
- 3:36Speaker 3: a guy in a leadership.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Role is expected to do.
- 3:40Speaker 3: And you know he's driving the team, he's driving the
- 3:43Speaker 3: message and driving the commitment level, and you know when
- 3:47Speaker 3: he's playing good hockey. So it's it's been nice to
- 3:50Speaker 3: see him come back from that injury and have this
- 3:54Speaker 3: kind of success early on.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Montreal I think has been one of the more surprising
- 3:58Speaker 2: teams this year, depending on you talk to around the league,
- 4:01Speaker 2: and you've seen them two weeks ago a game in
- 4:03Speaker 2: which the Kraken were in it, they lost in overtime.
- 4:07Speaker 2: When you go back and look at that game, where
- 4:09Speaker 2: do you feel the Kraken did their best? What areas
- 4:13Speaker 2: can they improve on to have a different result here tonight?
- 4:15Speaker 3: Well, I thought, I thought, really, First of all, I'm
- 4:19Speaker 3: not surprised Montreal is doing well. I saw enough of
- 4:22Speaker 3: them last year when I was in Toronto. Their good
- 4:24Speaker 3: hockey team, got a lot of talent. I thought we
- 4:29Speaker 3: were loose at times in Arizona. There was a cold
- 4:31Speaker 3: Coffield goal that was scored from an area that you
- 4:34Speaker 3: know he.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Shouldn't have been alone in.
- 4:36Speaker 3: You know, we we just and when I say loose,
- 4:39Speaker 3: I mean there was just you know, you know, we
- 4:41Speaker 3: made a couple of mistakes. And when you make a
- 4:44Speaker 3: couple of mistakes against a team like that, you know
- 4:46Speaker 3: they're able to put it in your in your net.
- 4:49Speaker 3: And that's just the you know, it's the talent level
- 4:52Speaker 3: that they have. So we'd like to clean up some
- 4:55Speaker 3: of those areas. Certainly, you know, from an offensive standpoint,
- 5:00Speaker 3: from a for checking standpoint, we feel like we need
- 5:02Speaker 3: to you know, get in. We feel like we can
- 5:05Speaker 3: for check and get the puck back. Certainly, their defense
- 5:09Speaker 3: are really adept at joining the rush, so we can't
- 5:11Speaker 3: allow them to do that, and then we can attack
- 5:14Speaker 3: and we can make moneys offensively.
- 5:15Speaker 1: So that's what we're looking to do tonight. Yeah,
