- 0:04This is Living Waters of Grace, the teaching ministry of Lewis
- 0:08Harold, assistant pastor of Calvary Chapel of Westmoreland
- 0:12County in Greensburg, PA. Now here's Pastor Lewis as he
- 0:16continues teaching through God's Word.
- 0:37Please pray this prayer, he said.
- 0:40That prayer is that. You may be filled.
- 0:43With the knowledge of his will. It is so important that we know.
- 0:48The will of God, that's how we. Get to know God by knowing His
- 0:52will. That's how we come to know how
- 0:54to walk this Christian life out, by knowing His will.
- 0:58There's just certain things that we don't have to.
- 1:00Worry about worrying about what I don't.
- 1:01Know if this is the will of God or not.
- 1:03Today Pastor Lewis answers a question that many people ask.
- 1:07How can I know the will of God for my life?
- 1:10Sure, there are certain things that take extra time to discern,
- 1:13but really to know the will of God for every facet of life, the
- 1:18answer is right there in front of us.
- 1:20So, do you want to know the secret to knowing the will of
- 1:23God for your life? Open up His Word.
- 1:27God has given you His Word to lead, guide, and direct you into
- 1:31His will for your life. His will is for you to be in His
- 1:35Word and His Word to be in you. Now here's Pastor Lewis in Titus
- 1:41chapter 3 with today's edition of Living Waters of Grace.
- 1:45Now during this time that Paul wrote.
- 1:47This letter he was. Actually in he was in jail.
- 1:50He was under house arrest in Rome when he.
- 1:53Wrote this particular letter. And you'll see a lot of
- 1:55similarities to Colossians and Ephesians and we'll be
- 1:59referencing that quite. A bit as we go through this
- 2:01letter. But he mentions Timothy as being
- 2:04with him now. Timothy wasn't in jail with him,
- 2:06but Timothy. Was there to assist.
- 2:08Him and to help him. Timothy was probably the one who
- 2:10scribed. This letter as Paul.
- 2:13Was giving his words to it and he says Timothy our brother.
- 2:17Well, we know that he called Timothy his son, but here?
- 2:20He's just. Expressing the fact or stressing
- 2:22the fact that Timothy is a. Brother in the Faith.
- 2:24Just like he's a son of faith. The other thing I also want to
- 2:28mention is the fact. That he.
- 2:29Calls Jesus, he mentions Jesus Christ and he calls that
- 2:32together now, pretty much. All the epistles.
- 2:35In his introductory he mentions the name Jesus.
- 2:37Christ, but if you were. To just think.
- 2:39About or go back through like the four gospels.
- 2:42You won't see those two names together.
- 2:46We know that Jesus. Is the name that means you know,
- 2:48that means, you know, save our people and we know that Christ.
- 2:51Is actually his office. I mean, that's his.
- 2:54Position of authority. He is the Christ.
- 2:57He's the Messiah, the. Son of the living.
- 2:59God. But you won't see those two
- 3:02together. Very much in the Gospels, only
- 3:05about 8 times you may see those things.
- 3:07Together, Peter was. One who mentions that when he
- 3:10says who, you know who, who am I?
- 3:12Who does man say I am? Peter said.
- 3:14You. You're the Christ.
- 3:16You're the Son. Of the living God.
- 3:18But you don't see that. That often in the Gospels, and
- 3:21that's why Jesus was so. Quick to say oh.
- 3:24Flesh and blood didn't. Reveal that to you.
- 3:26But my father. Who was in heaven?
- 3:28Because Jesus didn't even reveal himself as that as much in the.
- 3:32Gospels so he. Knew that it had to be
- 3:35spiritually reviewed or spiritually revealed to him.
- 3:40But here you see these names. Together Jesus Christ.
- 3:43And you'll see that together in most most of the epistles
- 3:46because by this time. Those who are.
- 3:48Teaching and preaching the gospel are presenting Jesus as
- 3:53the Messiah. And when we preach and teach.
- 3:56Jesus. We should do it as Jesus.
- 3:58Christ the Messiah. The true God, the the Son of
- 4:03God. God.
- 4:04In the flesh and then in verse 2 he says to the Saints and
- 4:07faithful brethren in Christ who are in.
- 4:09Colossae, grace to you. And peace from God our Father in
- 4:14the Lord Jesus. Christ.
- 4:16We give thanks and that's another thing you're going to
- 4:18see quite often throughout this. Letter.
- 4:22The giving of thanks and talking about thanks and we talked.
- 4:26About it before. That that's something that we.
- 4:27Should probably be. More intentional about doing in
- 4:30our lives is giving thanks to God, you know, in our.
- 4:34Prayers we should always. Take time to give.
- 4:36Thanks to God. You know, we, we always can go
- 4:40into talking about a laundry list of things that we need.
- 4:42And I sure need a lot of things. I need God to do a lot of things
- 4:45in my life as well. But we should always.
- 4:47Remember to thank him for the things that he has done.
- 4:51The things that he's. Already fulfilled in our lives.
- 4:53Because the truth. Is if God never did another
- 4:55thing for any of us, He's already done more than what we
- 4:59deserve. So when he talks about the
- 5:01peace, he talks about. You know, giving thanks, he
- 5:03said. We give thanks to.
- 5:04God to the God. And.
- 5:05Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you.
- 5:10Since. That's the key there.
- 5:14Since. We heard of your.
- 5:16Faith in Christ Jesus. And of your love for all the.
- 5:20Saints because of the. Hope which is laid up.
- 5:24For you in heaven. Of which you heard.
- 5:27Before in the word. Of the truth of the gospel.
- 5:30I just want to pause there, he said.
- 5:33Since he said we never, you know, we.
- 5:36Pray for you always. Since.
- 5:38We heard of your. Faith in Christ Jesus and of
- 5:42your love for all the Saints. Because of the hope.
- 5:47So right there you have all three of the pillars of the
- 5:50gospel faith, love and hope. In First Corinthians chapter 13
- 5:57and 13, you know Paul says now. Abide these three faith.
- 6:03Hope and love and the. Greatest of these is love.
- 6:07The greatest of these is love. But he says.
- 6:11Here since we heard. Of your faith.
- 6:15Many of us are praying for people that we want God to save.
- 6:19I certainly am. My wife and I, we are.
- 6:21We have. Children that are yet not saved.
- 6:26That we desire before we leave this world.
- 6:29To see them walking with the Lord.
- 6:34And I'm sure some of you may have people that you love.
- 6:37Whether they're your children. Some of you may be your parents.
- 6:40It could be brothers and sisters, whoever.
- 6:42It may be nieces, nephews, friends, good friends, whoever
- 6:44it is that you desire. To be saved and.
- 6:49I just want to encourage you to please keep praying.
- 6:52Because there was a. Time that my mother and and my
- 6:55sisters and and and my and my grandmother was praying for me.
- 6:59Was that Lord? Please save that boy.
- 7:02Save that boy. And the Lord did, and He can do.
- 7:09It for yours as. Well, he can do it for mine, I
- 7:13believe that and we going to hang on that.
- 7:15But he said since. We.
- 7:17Heard of your faith? In Christ Jesus and of your
- 7:21love, in other words, since we heard you got.
- 7:23Saved. We've been.
- 7:24Praying for you always. And what I want to say to you is
- 7:28now. If they get saved, those people
- 7:30you praying for once they get saved.
- 7:33Don't stop praying. In fact, that's when you want to
- 7:37start praying even more. Once they get saved, we become a
- 7:42target. When we get saved, Satan comes
- 7:46right for. US.
- 7:47He doesn't want. Anybody to leave?
- 7:49The Kingdom of darkness No one so we.
- 7:52Have to make. Sure that you know, Paul says.
- 7:54Since we. Heard you guys saved we we we
- 7:57pray for you always we want. You to stay in the faith, and
- 8:01that takes prayers and your faith and your love for all the
- 8:06Saints. The love is so important because
- 8:08love is one of the true evidences of a changed life.
- 8:13A person who loves. The way Jesus loved that agape
- 8:16love. That unconditional.
- 8:18Love that we should the church. Should be showing to each other
- 8:22when people recognize the. Church one of the.
- 8:25First things they. Should say that sets the church
- 8:27apart. Should be.
- 8:28Oh how they love. One another how they love one
- 8:31another. Look how they care for one
- 8:33another. Look how they talk to one.
- 8:35Look how they treat. Look how they look after each
- 8:37other. They.
- 8:37Love one another. It always blesses.
- 8:40Me when someone come to visit. Our church.
- 8:44And they're overwhelmed by the love that they experience in the
- 8:47church. What an evidence.
- 8:50That the Holy Spirit is with us. What an evidence, What a
- 8:54blessing. To be able to hear that, so he
- 8:57said for the love. For all the Saints, that
- 9:01evidence of salvation. And then he goes on, he says.
- 9:04Which is laid up. For us, and that laid up means
- 9:06reserved. We have a reservation.
- 9:11We have a reservation in heaven. And it's already there.
- 9:14And it can't be cancelled by anybody.
- 9:18And our confirmation is the Holy Spirit that's in US can't be
- 9:22cancelled by. Anybody.
- 9:23We are reserved. We have a place reserved in
- 9:28eternal life. How?
- 9:31You've had. Opportunities where you've made.
- 9:34Hotel reservations before. And you know the comfort you
- 9:38felt to know that where you're going, you had somewhere to stay
- 9:42and you ain't have to worry. About it I got.
- 9:45Somewhere to stay and we're good.
- 9:46I got my confirmation number. Oh, we hold on to that thing,
- 9:49don't we? We keep it in our emails.
- 9:51We may take a. Picture of it.
- 9:53You know what I mean? We're quick.
- 9:54You know, once someone that challenges me, I got a
- 9:58confirmation number. We don't want no trouble in
- 10:01here. We're.
- 10:02Good. You know how you feel about
- 10:05that, that comfort that you get. By having that, how much more,
- 10:10how much more comfort do we have?
- 10:12How much more excited? Should we be?
- 10:14About knowing that we have a reservation in heaven and it's a
- 10:19reservation that cannot be. Canceled.
- 10:23We have it forever. We're just.
- 10:25Waiting for the fulfillment of it.
- 10:27We're just waiting for. We're just waiting to.
- 10:28Arrive at the hotel. Amen.
- 10:31What a blessing that is. So then he goes on here and he
- 10:34says that. Hope.
- 10:36That's laid up for you in heaven.
- 10:38Of which you heard before. In the word of truth of the
- 10:41Gospel, Amen. The word of truth in the Gospel,
- 10:44which has come to you as it has in.
- 10:47All the world Paul was already. Establishing the fact.
- 10:51That the gospel has gone out to all the world the the the
- 10:54apostles. And not only himself.
- 10:57But there's other apostles out there.
- 10:58And the people that they meet make disciples, and the people
- 11:01that they meet make disciples, and the people that they meet
- 11:03make disciples, and all this word.
- 11:05Goes out. And Paul says I'm confident.
- 11:07I know it's going out through. All the world, All the world.
- 11:11I mean, just think about it. Hit.
- 11:12US. Right here in Little Greensburg,
- 11:14PA, The gospel and he says going out through.
- 11:18All the world. And not only is it going out,
- 11:21but it is bringing forth fruit as it is among as it as it is
- 11:25also among you, since the day that you heard and knew the
- 11:29grace of God. In truth, the Gospel always
- 11:32brings forth fruit. The Gospel.
- 11:33Always brings forth a. Change in people's lives.
- 11:36It's the power of God that's. Why Paul said it?
- 11:39I'm not ashamed of the gospel of.
- 11:40Christ, because it is the power. Of God and to salvation.
- 11:44It's a power for you to be changed from.
- 11:47Death to life is the power of God.
- 11:52Of salvation. So Paul said, I'm not ashamed of
- 11:55it. I'll teach.
- 11:56I'll, I'll, I'll share that message anywhere, anytime in
- 11:59front of anybody. It's power in that thing.
- 12:03Praise God. Praise God.
- 12:05And then he says here in verse 7, as you learned also from.
- 12:10Epiphras, our dear. Fellow servant, who is faithful
- 12:14minister of Christ on your behalf now.
- 12:17Epiphras. He's only mentioned two other
- 12:19times in the Word of God. He's mentioned at another place
- 12:23here in Colossians, in Colossians chapter 4, verse 12.
- 12:25He's mentioned there, and he's also mentioned the 23rd verse of
- 12:28Philemon. He is a faithful servant with
- 12:32God with with Paul he probably got.
- 12:35Converted to Christianity when Paul was teaching in.
- 12:38Ephesus, in fact, that's. Where a number.
- 12:41Of people. In Asia got converted.
- 12:43A places that Paul. Never even went to.
- 12:46But while he was. Preaching in Ephesus.
- 12:50There was a young man there named Epiphras.
- 12:53Who heard the Gospel? And we'll see.
- 12:56As he says here that he's a. Faithful minister of Christ on
- 13:00your behalf. Who also declared to us your
- 13:03love. And the Spirit.
- 13:05So now just think about it. Paul's preaching in Ephesus,
- 13:08teaching the Word. Of God.
- 13:11There's a young man there, sitting and listening.
- 13:13Paul might not even. Recognize who this guy was,
- 13:15probably. Didn't even stand out.
- 13:17To Paul, but he's. Sitting there listening and he
- 13:21is sitting there hearing the gospel and his life is getting
- 13:24changed and he goes back. To he goes back to.
- 13:29Colossians or to colossi? And establishes a church.
- 13:34And now a church that Paul has never even heard of, Paul's
- 13:39sending a letter to. Now keep in mind.
- 13:42Also that Paul. Had begun to.
- 13:45Work with Epiphras at. One point and he served.
- 13:49With Paul. In different.
- 13:51Places but Paul. Had never been to.
- 13:54Colossae so. You just never know what impact
- 14:00the gospel has on your life and the life that you and the impact
- 14:04you can have on somebody else's. You could have an impact on the
- 14:08city of Greensburg, you know, Thank God.
- 14:12Thank God that our pastor that Clark heard the.
- 14:15Gospel somewhere him and his wife and got saved and started
- 14:19Calvary Chapel here in Greensburg and the people.
- 14:24Who shared the gospel with him? Probably didn't even.
- 14:27Know. That this man got saved and was
- 14:29taken, and the gospel took him the way it did.
- 14:32But yet he was able to found a church here.
- 14:35In Greensburg, PA and have impact on the town of
- 14:39Greensburg. Who knows what impact you have
- 14:43had on somebody by just sharing the gospel.
- 14:46You don't have to be up here to do it.
- 14:47Maybe you were in the Maybe you were in the the lunch room.
- 14:52At your job. And you were sharing the gospel
- 14:54with somebody. You never know who that person
- 14:57wouldn't told and who that person wouldn't told and who
- 15:00that person wouldn't told. All because of that.
- 15:02Lunch. That he shared with you.
- 15:04In that lunch room when you were bold enough and then bold
- 15:08enough. To share the gospel.
- 15:10That's why it's so important when he says that, you know?
- 15:13We are to share the gospel, go on to all the world.
- 15:16And share it, you know, don't just share it in certain.
- 15:19Places everywhere you go. You get an opportunity when God
- 15:21gives you that window. Share Share the Gospel.
- 15:24You never know what kind of effect it's going to have.
- 15:27Many of the largest. Pastors or the.
- 15:30Or what we consider to be the. The the biggest?
- 15:32Pastors in this country are men. Who just heard the gospel
- 15:37preached? And went out and began to
- 15:40minister and start ministries. It's a blessing because there's.
- 15:45Power in it. It's no power in us.
- 15:48There was no power in Clark, but there was power in the Gospel.
- 15:51So we have we have Epifast who shared the the gospel there at
- 15:56Colossae. And made an impact there in the
- 15:59city. Of Colossae back.
- 16:00Right back where he come from. And he had, and Paul had depend
- 16:03on him to share and to declare to him the love of the Spirit.
- 16:07That was there at Colossae. And then in verse 9, he goes in
- 16:11and he says for this reason we also since the day we.
- 16:15Heard. Do not.
- 16:16Cease to pray for. You and to ask that may that you
- 16:21may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and
- 16:27spiritual understanding intend that.
- 16:30You may walk worthy of the Lord. Fully pleasing him, being
- 16:35fruitful in every good work, increasing in the knowledge of
- 16:40God. And then one more.
- 16:41We're going to finish on this one strengthened with All Might,
- 16:47according. To his glorious power for all.
- 16:50Patience and long-suffering. With joy now.
- 16:54I'm going to take just a couple minutes to go back and deal with
- 16:56just a couple of these points in closing.
- 16:59First of all, he said I don't. He said that we since.
- 17:02The day we heard that you got saved just like he said over
- 17:06there in verse 4. He said since the day we heard
- 17:09that, you guys say, we didn't cease to pray.
- 17:11For you we. Realize how important it is.
- 17:13To pray for you. Since you got saved and to ask
- 17:17now, this is his. Prayer.
- 17:18And I'm going to. Ask that as you read this
- 17:21prayer, whether you read it here or whether you read it at.
- 17:24Home, I'm going to ask that you. Pray this prayer for yourself
- 17:29first of all. And secondly.
- 17:31That you pray it for. Everyone else that's in the body
- 17:35of Christ and please, please pray it for Clark and I and all
- 17:40the leaders here in Calvary Chapel and everywhere else
- 17:43that's here. Everyone else that's here.
- 17:45Please pray this prayer, he said.
- 17:48That prayer is that. You may be filled with the
- 17:52knowledge. Of his will.
- 17:55It is so important that we know the will.
- 17:58Of God, that's how. We get to know God by knowing
- 18:02His will. That's how we come to know how
- 18:05to walk this Christian life out, by knowing His will.
- 18:09There's just certain things that we don't have to.
- 18:11Worry about worrying. About well, I don't know if this
- 18:13is the will of God or not. What do you mean?
- 18:15Well, I'm married to somebody that I'm, you know, I think
- 18:18there's somebody else I should be married to.
- 18:21So I'm going to divorce this person and go.
- 18:22I just think that's God's will. No, it's not.
- 18:25We don't even have. To pray about that.
- 18:27We know that that's not God's will.
- 18:29Well, let's see if I just. Cheat on my taxes just a little
- 18:32bit because I have some big expenses coming up and maybe
- 18:35this is God's way of making sure that I can meet those expenses.
- 18:38So I'm going to just. Tattle.
- 18:40Just a. Little bit, you know, tweak.
- 18:41These taxes a little. Bit so I can get more money back
- 18:44and we know that that's not. God's will.
- 18:47There's just certain things we know is not his will.
- 18:50So we read his word. To understand His will.
- 18:54Now watch how these dots connect so you know the knowledge.
- 18:57Of his will. And all wisdom and spiritual
- 19:00understanding wisdom. Is just the practical.
- 19:03Outworking of the knowledge. You have.
- 19:06You make decisions. That are wise.
- 19:08Based on the knowledge. You have about a situation so
- 19:12we. Can walk in the wisdom of God
- 19:14based on the knowledge that we. Have of God.
- 19:17And his will. So that first dot.
- 19:19Connect and the spiritual understanding or understanding
- 19:23that comes through discernment. That understanding is spiritual
- 19:26discernment, those things that come through.
- 19:29The Spirit that reveals to us the will of God.
- 19:34It reveals that we're the the will of God.
- 19:37The Bible says that the natural. Man doesn't understand the
- 19:40things that. Are of the Spirit.
- 19:42The natural man understands the natural things that are of man.
- 19:45It's spiritual. Things that understand spiritual
- 19:48things. So it's the Spirit.
- 19:52And he says walk in our wisdom and we can walk in our wisdom
- 19:55because we understand his will and we obtain that will, the
- 19:58knowledge of that will through spiritual discernment.
- 20:01And then verse 10 that. You.
- 20:03Walk may walk. Worthy of the Lord.
- 20:05Fully pleasing him, being fruitful in every.
- 20:08Good work. How are we going to be fruitful?
- 20:11By knowing the will of God? By understanding and discerning.
- 20:15The will of God. And the knowledge.
- 20:17Of God by walking. In the wisdom of that which we
- 20:20know and when we. Do that we are fruitful.
- 20:24We are fruitful in in every. Good.
- 20:27Work increasing in the knowledge of God we should never.
- 20:32Ever, ever stop. Wanting to increase our.
- 20:34Knowledge of God. That's why men and women who
- 20:38have been following the Lord. For years.
- 20:40Who have been serving the Lord for.
- 20:42Years still go to. Bible studies still go to.
- 20:45To Wednesday night Bible study and come on Sundays and then go
- 20:48to the men's Bible studies the men's breakfast is in women's go
- 20:51to the women's Bible studies in the women's.
- 20:53Breakfast. Because regardless of how.
- 20:55Long you've been serving the. Lord, we always.
- 20:58Want to know more about Him? We always want to know more
- 21:02about Him. That's the mercy or the grace.
- 21:05That God has given to us is the desire.
- 21:07To want to know more about him. It's a beatitude, Lord.
- 21:11Make me hungry and thirsty. For.
- 21:14Righteousness, and that's in Him.
- 21:19So we always want to be hungry. For the word.
- 21:21Of God. And then this last one
- 21:23strengthened with All Might, according.
- 21:26To his glorious power for all. Patience and long-suffering.
- 21:31Now this patience. Is actually.
- 21:33Endurance. It's perseverance.
- 21:37And this long-suffering is. Like it says.
- 21:39Being able to suffer long, but it's patience.
- 21:43It's patience. Look at what?
- 21:45Paul asked for though what he prayed for, he says.
- 21:47I'm not praying that you become physically strong to be able to
- 21:51combat. The people who are.
- 21:53Persecuting you or the people that are causing tribulation in
- 21:56your life. I'm not asking you to become
- 21:57physically strong. I want you to become spiritually
- 22:01strong. That you're able to persevere.
- 22:04That you're able. To endure, join those.
- 22:07Hardships that you're able to have.
- 22:10Long-suffering to have patience and to.
- 22:12Do it with joy, the disciples. Over in the book.
- 22:16Of Acts 5, they said after they got.
- 22:19Beaten for. Preaching Christ, they rejoiced.
- 22:23And they rejoiced. Because they said we're counted
- 22:26worthy. Worthy to suffer persecution
- 22:31for. His name's sake, Jesus even
- 22:34said, when you were persecuted, rejoice when you're persecuted,
- 22:39when you're reviled, and when you're lied on.
- 22:41He said rejoice, rejoice, we have good cheer.
- 22:46So we want that strength and we want that strength with joy.
- 22:50It's not important that I'm that we're physically strong.
- 22:52We know this outward body is going to perish.
- 22:54We know that. But we want our inward man to be
- 22:57renewed day by day. Amen.
- 23:00We want to be strengthened in our inner man.
- 23:02We want to be strengthened to be able to.
- 23:04Go through hardships we want to be.
- 23:06Strengthened to be able. To have the.
- 23:08Patience to endure our tribulations.
- 23:11And I pray. That for each and everyone of
- 23:13you, I don't know, maybe, maybe somebody's going through
- 23:15something in here right now and you're wondering.
- 23:17I don't know if I can hold on. I've been going through this for
- 23:19so long. I've been dealing with this for
- 23:21so long. I don't know if I can hold on,
- 23:23Hold on, hold on. Wait on the Lord.
- 23:29Wait on the Lord. He.
- 23:32He will renew your strength and cause you to mount up with wings
- 23:38as eagles. He can do that for you.
- 23:42Wait on the Lord. Whatever it is that you're.
- 23:46Dealing with. Our prayers that you're going to
- 23:49be. Strengthened in the inward man,
- 23:51you're going to be strengthened with with the endurance.
- 23:54To be able to deal with it. This has been Living Waters of
- 23:59Grace, a ministry of Pastor Louis Harrell of Calvary Chapel,
- 24:03Westmoreland. Today's message has been on the
- 24:06Book of Titus. This book is a master class in
- 24:09how Christians should live in modern culture.
- 24:12Titus was ministering to the people of Crete, an island off
- 24:15the coast of Greece, but he was facing many challenges.
- 24:19The Cretans who came to know Jesus seemed to assimilate Jesus
- 24:23into their existing culture instead of allowing themselves
- 24:27to be transformed by the Holy Spirit inside of them.
- 24:31Others were fully devoting themselves to Jesus but shutting
- 24:35themselves off from the world around them.
- 24:38The apostle Paul encourages Titus to help his audience find
- 24:42a middle ground where they can live in this world while still
- 24:46following a different way of life in Jesus.
- 24:49If you would like to learn more about what it means to
- 24:52faithfully follow the teachings of Christ in a world full of
- 24:55darkness, we'd love to get connected with you in person.
