- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Good morning and welcome to AgSquawk AM.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Jed Sidwell here with AgBull Media.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: We're a financial channel that absolutely loves agriculture.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: Today we're going to be talking about that crop progress report as well as both of our borders, both both the north and the south.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: We'll get to all of that and more here in a bit of a feeder cattle came down a little bit yesterday as well as fats.
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: Fat cattle were down a dollar and 43 cents at$217.45.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: Feeder cattle were down essentially three bucks at$331.90.
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: Lean hogs were up a tick in the very front month, but they were red and the rest of them.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: They closed at$78.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: On to the grain market side, before I do that, I'd like to shout out our sponsor, plus$500.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: We use Plus$500 T4 trading software to quote the markets every single day.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: And as I look, the December corn contract is at$525.5.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: November soybeans are at$12.93 and three quarters.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: And December Chicago wheat is at 688.5.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: Corn making a pretty good rally here this morning.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: It's kind of cool to see.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: On the weather discussion, Hurricane Polo's remnants are steering still more heavy rain into the central and southern plains and Corn Belt through this week's end, stalling the Western Corn Belt Harvest and hardware wheat planting and threatening record wet Septembers and already soaked areas.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: You know, we talked about for a while that it was maybe going to be cool to see some moisture into that hard red wheat area to just allow that crop to take off.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: But right now it's almost hindering it more than it's helping.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: Not to mention New Mexico, Arizona, seeing some pretty large levels of flooding there.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: On the grain market side of things, Monday's crop progress, national numbers came out.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: Corn's good to excellent, was at 57%, soybeans were at 58, corn harvest at 18%, soybean harvest at 17%.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: But it's in a harsh contrast right now where the south and southern plains are cutting well ahead of normal kind of pace, way ahead of where they're normally at.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: Well, Iowa, the top corn state and the number two soybean state is essentially at a standstill right now.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: It's the big blue dot there on this topsoil moisture.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: It's getting really hard for those Iwegians to get into the fields right now.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: And you know, hopefully they'll get some time for these rains to soak in to allow that ground to firm up so that they can get out there.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: But yeah, they have kind of been in the cross section of a lot of different storms.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: The livestock markets, I figured I'd pop this chart on real quick because the Mexican border, as you know, we opened a second port last week.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: And because of that, we maybe saw a slight increase in cattle.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: But the thing is that the high point there on the very far right side, that's the highest day that we have had since we've been opened, that's 35% of normal.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: Still nowhere near where we're at, not to mention we had the the amount of time there where we imported no cattle because the facilities weren't even good enough to get them across.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: Or at least that's what they're claiming there.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: As we open more borders, I'm interested to see if we just have the cattle to push across.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: You know, we opened Santa Teresa, but not a lot of them came through there.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: The breaking news that caught my eye this morning was America's Canadian import restrictions come into force.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: And you know, maybe a slightly older headline, but they're coming in, and you know, it's it's been a talk that agricultural products have will be infected infected, not not infected, impacted or affected.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: Here's a long list of impacted goods, includes motorcycles, mopeds, anything with a petrol engine larger than 800cc, whey products, baby formula, molasses, a slew of alcoholic beverages, mainly those packaged for direct consumption from beer, cider, wine, whiskey, vodka, all of them, you know, this has a large impact on our economy.
- 4:33SPEAKER_00: It truly, truly does.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: You know, alcohol consumption makes up a decent portion of people's disposable income that they spend.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: Not to mention something, you know, a case of beer goes into factor about everyone's weekly budget, you know.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: I enjoy a six-pack from time to time, that's for sure.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: And if this starts to kind of impact our further relations with more impactful things on the Canadian border, it'll be interesting to see how that plays out.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: On the economic calendar for today, the house price index comes out at 8 a.m.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: That would be central.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: The conference board consumer conference comes confidence, excuse me, comes out at 9 a.m.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: Central, and the Jolts comes out at 9 a.m.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: as well.
