- 0:12Hello friends, it's shown here and you clever things.
- 0:16You have made it to the end of another week.
- 0:18It is Friday and I'm so glad to have your company because here
- 0:23we are getting to share together a sum and we are working our way
- 0:28up this very, very seemingly unending hill to Jerusalem.
- 0:33Because you might remember the last two, Sam Sam, 120 and 121
- 0:38are titled A Song for pilgrims Ascending to Jerusalem.
- 0:42And today's is called the same. But it adds after that a sum of
- 0:48David. So yes, this is a very, very
- 0:52long hill. Do you know that when people
- 0:54talk about London, or back in the day when they used to talk
- 0:56about London, it was always, we're going up to London.
- 0:59Didn't matter what direction they were travelling, they were
- 1:01going up to London because it was the high place that people
- 1:05would ascend to figuratively. And I guess Jerusalem must be
- 1:08the same because, boy, we have been ascending for weeks and we
- 1:12still haven't reached the height of Jerusalem.
- 1:15What a place. That's city on a hill.
- 1:17We are heading there today. Strap on your rucksack, get that
- 1:21drink bottle or your bladder strapped inside your pack with
- 1:24that little tube that you can suck on as you walk.
- 1:27If you don't have one of those, that's a very helpful thing when
- 1:29you're hiking. But we are heading up that hill
- 1:32together. We are going to share this song,
- 1:35this Sam, this poem as we take it step by step.
- 1:39It's not a long one, but it's a great one.
- 1:42So join me as we head up to Jerusalem.
- 1:46In sum, 122 I was glad when they said to me,
- 2:01let us go to the House of the Lord.
- 2:04And now here we are standing inside your gates of Jerusalem.
- 2:11Jerusalem is a well built city. It seamless walls cannot be
- 2:16breached. All the tribes of Israel, the
- 2:20Lord's people, make their pilgrimage here.
- 2:23They come to give thanks to the name of the Lord, as the law
- 2:28requires of Israel. Here stand the Thrones where
- 2:32judgement is given. The Thrones of the dynasty of
- 2:36David. Pray for peace in Jerusalem.
- 2:41May all who love this city prosper all Jerusalem.
- 2:46May there be peace within your walls and prosperity in your
- 2:51palaces. For the sake of my family and
- 2:55friends, I will say, may you have peace.
- 2:59For the sake of the House of the Lord our God, I will seek what
- 3:05is best for you or Jerusalem. Ah Lord, we are just that.
- 3:19We are pilgrims on this path toward your holy city.
- 3:25Ah Lord, these lives are climbing up this hill heading
- 3:30towards you, and may you keep our eyes ever on your holy city
- 3:34atop that hill, knowing that our destination is indeed this place
- 3:39of peace beside your throne. Our holy God, thank you that you
- 3:47don't just sit there in judgement, staring out across
- 3:52your Kingdom, but you look to us and you see us walking toward
- 3:57you. And you prepare a place for us
- 4:01so that when we do reach your holy city, it won't be a strange
- 4:05land that we enter, but it will be our home with you, where we
- 4:11are loved and we have a place where we belong and we are
- 4:16welcomed in your family. What a crazy wonderful gift this
- 4:21is for us. Thank You that you would love us
- 4:26so much that you would carefully make a space just for me and
- 4:32just for each one of us to spend eternity with you, our loving,
- 4:38welcoming Father. And all this is possible because
- 4:42of what Jesus has done for us. So it's in His name that we
- 4:46pray. Amen.
