- 0:01Speaker 1: Don that.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Welcome to Associate coach Chris Daily for the daily recap,
- 0:04Speaker 2: brought to you by New Face Home Improvements. Your home
- 0:07Speaker 2: is like our home, New Face. It's and U F
- 0:09Speaker 2: A C E C T dot com. Little assist to
- 0:12Speaker 2: Jackson Fisk here making sure Chris knew where to go,
- 0:15Speaker 2: and this will be our new setup. As Chris is
- 0:17Speaker 2: on the floor, we're up in our broadcast position. Nice
- 0:21Speaker 2: nice work by your team today, especially second quarter where
- 0:24Speaker 2: you got separation and then put the foot on the
- 0:26Speaker 2: gas to start the third. Real nice effort today.
- 0:30Speaker 3: This is really weird because you're so far away've I'm
- 0:35Speaker 3: trying to make eye contact just so you know I'm staring. No,
- 0:40Speaker 3: it was great, you know, I think today with the
- 0:42Speaker 3: emotion of the whole, the banner and the highlight tape
- 0:47Speaker 3: and kind of having the kids being able to you know,
- 0:50Speaker 3: acknowledge that.
- 0:51Speaker 1: I think we came started out a little bit shaky. Uh.
- 0:54Speaker 3: They certainly made their share of threes, banking them in.
- 0:58Speaker 3: You know, that's not really the norm. But I thought
- 1:00Speaker 3: once we settled down, our defense was much better. We
- 1:03Speaker 3: only turned the ball over six times, so we're getting good.
- 1:06Speaker 3: You know, we're getting a lot of shots, which is good.
- 1:08Speaker 3: And then Asy I thought Asy and Sarah took over
- 1:11Speaker 3: and just made it look really easy.
- 1:13Speaker 4: Talk about the defense, I thought that was pretty good too,
- 1:16Speaker 4: especially your guard play and how they were able to
- 1:18Speaker 4: work as a unit.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Yeah, we've been working on that.
- 1:21Speaker 3: In fact, today we went over it again, which I
- 1:23Speaker 3: think was helpful, just to we're trying to mix it
- 1:26Speaker 3: up so that you know, the opponent can't get a
- 1:28Speaker 3: read on exactly what we're doing. So we're mixing it
- 1:30Speaker 3: up between two or three different types of defenses, creating
- 1:35Speaker 3: havoc and trying to take advantage.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Of some of our guard plays. So we did a
- 1:38Speaker 1: good job with that.
- 1:40Speaker 2: Kayleie Heckle, especially all six deals of hers in the
- 1:43Speaker 2: first half fifteen for the game. And I mean she
- 1:46Speaker 2: she and KK or whether she and Ash whoever, the
- 1:49Speaker 2: guards were a lot of good double teaming on the
- 1:51Speaker 2: perimeter and she was the benefit of that.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think we're only going to get better
- 1:56Speaker 1: at that.
- 1:57Speaker 3: I think the more we do it and the more
- 1:58Speaker 3: we practice it, I think we're going to get better
- 2:00Speaker 3: and you're going to see us become a smarter pressing
- 2:03Speaker 3: team so that we're not just running at people when
- 2:05Speaker 3: they can look at us. The whole thing is, if
- 2:07Speaker 3: you're going to press, you can't be a bad pressing
- 2:09Speaker 3: team because then you give up too many easy points.
- 2:11Speaker 3: So if we're going to press, I think we need
- 2:14Speaker 3: to get better at it and get smarter and really
- 2:16Speaker 3: minimize getting the ball. You know, you want to keep
- 2:19Speaker 3: the ball out of the middle and really just try
- 2:22Speaker 3: to make them take time off the clock. I think
- 2:23Speaker 3: at one point we did a pretty good job. Even
- 2:27Speaker 3: though we didn't steal it in some possessions, we were
- 2:29Speaker 3: able to make them use time to bring the ball
- 2:31Speaker 3: up the court, which then lessens.
- 2:32Speaker 1: The amount of time they have to run the half
- 2:34Speaker 1: court offense.
- 2:36Speaker 4: Your post players even were in the up at the elbow.
- 2:38Speaker 4: We see Sarah Strong do it a lot. You had
- 2:41Speaker 4: the different deflections right there, coming up high on the
- 2:43Speaker 4: post two and Sarah being Sarah.
- 2:46Speaker 1: It seems that just makes it effortless.
- 2:48Speaker 3: Yeah, that was another thing we went over today. You know,
- 2:51Speaker 3: teams that like to get the ball in have an
- 2:53Speaker 3: elbow entry. When you can take that away from them,
- 2:56Speaker 3: that causes, you know, makes them have to do something
- 2:58Speaker 3: different that they're not used to. And if you're able
- 3:00Speaker 3: to step in the passing lane.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Teams did it.
- 3:02Speaker 3: I think Louisville did it to us the other day
- 3:04Speaker 3: because we were standing there waiting for the ball. So
- 3:07Speaker 3: we're not the only ones that do that, so we're
- 3:08Speaker 3: taking advantage of that. And certainly Sarah's got great hands
- 3:12Speaker 3: and was able to get a couple of steals, but
- 3:14Speaker 3: I thought Sarah Williams did it as well. So when
- 3:17Speaker 3: we can do that, we're just helping our own cause
- 3:20Speaker 3: and making the you know, the whole idea on the
- 3:22Speaker 3: defensive end is to make teams uncomfortable and make them
- 3:24Speaker 3: do things that they're not used to limit it like,
- 3:27Speaker 3: for instance, the kid Williams, she's left handed, and we
- 3:31Speaker 3: let her go left way too many times early on,
- 3:33Speaker 3: and once we were able to, you know, influence her
- 3:36Speaker 3: to her right side, she was easier to guard. I mean,
- 3:39Speaker 3: she's not easy to guard, but she was easier to
- 3:41Speaker 3: guard because we had help on that side of the ball.
- 3:44Speaker 3: So we just need to, you know, as we get
- 3:46Speaker 3: better and learn some different things, whether it's in our
- 3:49Speaker 3: pressure in our half court, I think we're just going
- 3:50Speaker 3: to continue to improve.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Chris, speaking of Sarah Williams, is she pressing a little
- 3:56Speaker 2: bit on offense.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, those are those her layups. She's missing thing.
- 4:01Speaker 3: You know, I think she might need to be a
- 4:04Speaker 3: little bit more patient, but we watch film about you know,
- 4:08Speaker 3: she she does it. She doesn't miss those that many
- 4:12Speaker 3: in practice. So maybe it is like the game the
- 4:15Speaker 3: game situation. But and it's not easy, you know, you
- 4:19Speaker 3: think about it. It's not easy coming in for your
- 4:21Speaker 3: your one year and still trying to figure things out.
- 4:24Speaker 3: So I thought she came back in the second half,
- 4:27Speaker 3: didn't hang her head. I thought she did some really
- 4:29Speaker 3: good things, block some shots.
- 4:32Speaker 1: So when our.
- 4:33Speaker 3: Offense isn't where it needs to be or where she
- 4:35Speaker 3: wants it to be or where we want it to be,
- 4:37Speaker 3: that you know, she needs just to go back to
- 4:38Speaker 3: what she's really good at as well, block shots, play
- 4:42Speaker 3: good defense, run the floor, and keep the pressure on
- 4:44Speaker 3: the other team. So I think when she settled down
- 4:46Speaker 3: and did those things, she she looked much more comfortable.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Chris, A pleasure to have you come out. I know
- 4:52Speaker 2: it's not right next to us, but we're making the
- 4:55Speaker 2: most of this, so appreciate you coming out as always,
- 4:57Speaker 2: and we'll talk.
- 4:57Speaker 1: To you my pleasure. Thank you very much.
