Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: A bit of good news on the jobs front, the
- 0:01Speaker 1: employment markets showing slight signs of life field jobs up
- 0:05Speaker 1: point three percent in May. This is according to stats
- 0:07Speaker 1: in z Verse April. Ironically, the biggest gains over the
- 0:11Speaker 1: past year public sector, public administration, healthcare, education, financial services
- 0:16Speaker 1: leading the way. Rob Hayes Infimentric's consulting with me this morning,
- 0:19Speaker 1: Rob Gida mon In Rayan. So, trends are.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Good, it's looking good. It's it's very early days. I'm
- 0:27Speaker 2: not ready to say we're out of the woods yet
- 0:29Speaker 2: in terms of a labor market recovery, but I think
- 0:32Speaker 2: at this stage any good news is great. Given the
- 0:36Speaker 2: last few months and fuel prices, et cetera.
- 0:39Speaker 1: Fair to say that the you know, we had the
- 0:41Speaker 1: terrible employee confidence or employment confidence survey the other day.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Fair to say that the you know, the fear is
- 0:50Speaker 1: more than well, the bark of this is more than
- 0:53Speaker 1: the bite.
- 0:55Speaker 2: I think. So our current analysis is that fuel prices
- 0:59Speaker 2: didn't go quite as high as we thought they would,
- 1:02Speaker 2: and then they've not stayed as high for as long
- 1:06Speaker 2: and a lot of that has to do with the
- 1:08Speaker 2: cessation of conflict in the Middle East. So yeah, it's
- 1:14Speaker 2: not as bad as we thought he was going to
- 1:15Speaker 2: be a few months ago.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Would they public sector jobs that have been taken up
- 1:19Speaker 1: mainly to fill shortages? What teachers?
- 1:22Speaker 2: Healthcare? What is it when we talk about public sector
- 1:26Speaker 2: public administration in the data release, we're talking more about
- 1:30Speaker 2: kind of central and local government. So we kind of
- 1:34Speaker 2: cross check that against some of the figures of the
- 1:36Speaker 2: Public Service Commission puts out. And they're looking at ird,
- 1:41Speaker 2: Ministry of Education, Departments of Corrections, are anger tamariki, They're
- 1:45Speaker 2: they're all showing growth in job numbers. Education and health
- 1:50Speaker 2: care treated as separate industries in the numbers. But yeah,
- 1:55Speaker 2: they're seeing job growth as.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Well, all right, and of course been a revision down
- 1:59Speaker 1: which often happens that thank you Rob, Rob Hayes Informetris
- 2:03Speaker 1: consultant so Stats in Dedfigure's show, because they keep revising them.
- 2:06Speaker 1: They are such a regular update that they then have
- 2:09Speaker 1: to revise them because the numbers are often just out
- 2:11Speaker 1: as they work. For April point two percent rise now
- 2:14Speaker 1: one point two percent four fulfilled job numbers, which they
- 2:18Speaker 1: say is seasonally adjusted. For more from early edition with
