- 0:25Don Armstrong: And uh we want to really thank you for joining us today.
- 0:30Don Armstrong: There's a bit of confusion here, uh, but you know, we just always plow through all of that because that is the name of this show.
- 0:37Don Armstrong: Plow through.
- 0:38Don Armstrong: Once you get past the in-wheel time, once you get past the in-wheel time car talk show.
- 0:43Don Armstrong: So we're gonna continue on.
- 0:45Don Armstrong: We're a little bit behind in our commercials, and we're gonna try to catch up with that.
- 0:48Don Armstrong: Uh joining us now is uh is it Linda Rogers?
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 0:52Don Armstrong: Linda Rogers, hi, how are you?
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: I'm great, how are you?
- 0:55Don Armstrong: So tell me about yourself.
- 0:56Don Armstrong: What are you doing here?
- 0:57Don Armstrong: Why are you lost?
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: No, we don't.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: You're not lost.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: We come every year.
- 1:02Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 1:02Don Armstrong: And so I assume that uh you have a car that's here today.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: Yes, we have a 54 Chevrolet, and then my son has a 66 Chevrolet pickup.
- 1:11Jeff Dziekan: Oh, very good.
- 1:13Don Armstrong: Uh so tell me about the 54.
- 1:15Don Armstrong: You know, my grandfather had a 53 or 54 Chevrolet.
- 1:18Don Armstrong: It was still round back then.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: Well, my husband raced until 83.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: All week he had to work on it, put new parts, straighten it out, and all that.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: So then when he got out of it, we got a 54 Chevrolet.
- 1:31Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 1:31Don Armstrong: And the reason that we selected a 54 Chevrolet is that's what he wanted.
- 1:36Don Armstrong: There you go.
- 1:37Don Armstrong: Interesting.
- 1:37Don Armstrong: And how long have you had this car?
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: Uh we've had it since '84, but we it wasn't finished till 91.
- 1:43Don Armstrong: 84 to 91.
- 1:45Don Armstrong: So it was a project.
- 1:47Don Armstrong: Uh-huh.
- 1:47Don Armstrong: So you were kind of a uh a project widow, as we call it.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: Kind of.
- 1:52Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: But I was already a race widow.
- 1:54Don Armstrong: Oh, there there is that.
- 1:55Don Armstrong: But I'll bet you went to the races, didn't you?
- 1:57Don Armstrong: Yes.
- 1:58Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 1:58Don Armstrong: And what kind of races?
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: Rounded round.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: Roundy round dirt.
- 2:04Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 2:05Don Armstrong: And and I'm trying to get David's attention.
- 2:08Don Armstrong: Oh, David.
- 2:09Don Armstrong: I don't know what what Jeff's trying to tell you here.
- 2:12Don Armstrong: Is would this happen to be it, right?
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: That happens to be it.
- 2:15Don Armstrong: Wow, that's a beautiful car.
- 2:16Don Armstrong: Thank you.
- 2:17Don Armstrong: It is.
- 2:17Don Armstrong: Yes.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: When we got it, it was a green and it had a big Tweety bird on the on the trunk.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: Uh nice.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: We went to pick it up.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: I pulled him with the chain from a bell made into Waco about 10 miles.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: And when we got close to where we live, my daughter got down in the floorboard if she didn't want to know.
- 2:36Don Armstrong: But I you know what?
- 2:37Don Armstrong: I did that with my mother when she had my parents had a DeSoto.
- 2:43Don Armstrong: I don't know whether you know what that is or not, but it wasn't good.
- 2:46Don Armstrong: It was green, and um, it had a starter issue, so my dad taught her how to get out, open the hood, put the broom handle down on the starter and whack it with a hammer, and it would start every time.
- 3:00Don Armstrong: Well, it was that kind of a car, and uh I was embarrassed to ride in it, and I found myself on the floor many, many times.
- 3:07Don Armstrong: So I can relate.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but now that it's fixed up when something happens to us, he's she's gonna get the car, and then he's gonna get the pickup that he's working on.
- 3:15Don Armstrong: So we're still working on the pickup?
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: No, we've got it finished, but now we're working on a 31 board.
- 3:20Don Armstrong: So this this is a lifelong passion.
- 3:23Don Armstrong: And it and you so you're married to the car industry whether you like it or not.
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: Yes, sir.
- 3:28Don Armstrong: And you knew that getting into this.
- 3:29Don Armstrong: Yes, sir.
- 3:30Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 3:30Don Armstrong: How long have you two been married?
- 3:32Don Armstrong: Uh over 56 years.
- 3:34Don Armstrong: Congratulations.
- 3:35Don Armstrong: Well, thank you.
- 3:35Don Armstrong: Yeah, that's that that is awesome.
- 3:37Don Armstrong: And she's a race widow, and now she's a car show widow, kind of.
- 3:42Don Armstrong: But you put you go but you go to these shows, do you not?
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: Oh yes, all the time.
- 3:47Don Armstrong: Because I mean you're part of you're part of it.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, as a matter of fact, one year my son and husband decided to go to C ten.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: And my friend and I had already C ten pickups in the in the park.
- 3:59Don Armstrong: Oh, I see.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: Went to I see a big, big show.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: And my friend and I had already planned on going to Seaton.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: So he went with his truck with my son, and my friend and I went with that one Louise in in the car.
- 4:12Don Armstrong: And did did you win place or show?
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: No, but I beat them all home.
- 4:16Don Armstrong: You beat them home.
- 4:18Don Armstrong: So it doesn't have the uh the the straight six cylinder in it?
- 4:22Don Armstrong: No, of course not.
- 4:23Don Armstrong: Why would I think that?
- 4:24Don Armstrong: He's a race car driver.
- 4:25Don Armstrong: It's got to have a probably a small block Chevrolet.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: I don't I don't know.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: I don't he's right.
- 4:33Don Armstrong: What's here he is.
- 4:33Don Armstrong: So I have no idea.
- 4:38Don Armstrong: Yeah, uh, I get it.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: I just had money, yeah, I just wrote the checks.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: Oh, you're not gonna get the biggest.
- 4:44Don Armstrong: You got the important part.
- 4:46Don Armstrong: I guess so.
- 4:47Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 4:47Don Armstrong: Well, hey, they've got still got a place to live because uh when you're passionate about a car, well, let's see, do I have to make that house par uh uh car payment now?
- 4:58Don Armstrong: Do I have to make the house payment now?
- 5:00Don Armstrong: So you take care of that end of it.
- 5:02Mike Marrs: Yeah, I got it.
- 5:02Mike Marrs: So your son has a truck.
- 5:04Mike Marrs: Your husband has this, and you're building one, is that yours?
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: He says it is.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: Well, he had a 56 nomad, but he sold it because he didn't do any work on it.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: So he sold it.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: So he didn't he didn't have a lot of people.
- 5:19Don Armstrong: So there's been so in other words, what you're saying is there's been this ongoing uh turnover of cars throughout the years, except for this one, I think.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we just well we just had the one nomad that he bought and he sold it.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: And then we weren't gonna make any more until we got the 31.
- 5:37Don Armstrong: And that changed everything.
- 5:39Don Armstrong: Kinda.
- 5:40Don Armstrong: Kinda.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: We both have retired and it's kept us together, so he's out there doing that.
- 5:46Jeff Dziekan: There you go.
- 5:46Jeff Dziekan: 51 years, heck yeah.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: 56.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: 56 is a yeah.
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be 57 in August if we make it.
- 5:52Mike Marrs: You'll make it.
- 5:54Mike Marrs: The 31's not finished, you gotta make wait until that's finished for sure.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: And the pickup took forever.
- 6:00Don Armstrong: So let me let me ask you, does he still get on the dolly creeper and get underneath the car?
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: But he doesn't get up as well.
- 6:07Don Armstrong: Well, we had that discussion earlier.
- 6:10Don Armstrong: We were thinking, you know, we would do that, but getting up is the problem.
- 6:15Don Armstrong: Getting up and out of anything.
- 6:17SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 6:17Don Armstrong: Yes.
- 6:18Don Armstrong: Matter of fact, I I have a Corvette.
- 6:20Don Armstrong: And I I've actually had a conversation with myself.
- 6:23Don Armstrong: You know, the clutch has become a problem with my knee, and getting up and out of it has become a problem with my age.
- 6:33Don Armstrong: Uh I think I'm working toward the rigomortis generation now.
- 6:37Don Armstrong: Where the rigor mortis is setting in.
- 6:40Don Armstrong: Kind of gets stiff.
- 6:41Don Armstrong: Don't even go there.
- 6:42Don Armstrong: I see you thinking, Mars.
- 6:44Don Armstrong: Well, I was just thinking, if it happened while you were in the Corvette.
- 6:47Don Armstrong: Well, that would be fine.
- 6:47Don Armstrong: Just bury the Corvette and me in it.
- 6:50Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 6:50Don Armstrong: There's that.
- 6:51Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 6:52SPEAKER_00: Well, he got disgusted during building the truck because it took several, several years.
- 6:57Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: And I said you can't give up on it.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: You gave Christie the car, you gotta give Steven the truck.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: So you've got to pick up.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: Wait a minute.
- 7:04SPEAKER_03: So there's another one besides your son?
- 7:06SPEAKER_03: You have another daughter.
- 7:07SPEAKER_03: A daughter.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: She she gets this one.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: She hid from it from the one that she finds her on the front.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: And then her younger brother Steven has the pickup over there.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: That I've I've only ridden in it once.
- 7:20Don Armstrong: Why?
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: That's all I've been invited to.
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: He got it as his first truck in school.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: And I didn't ride in it till oh, I guess it was probably twenty-five years later.
- 7:34Don Armstrong: So tell me, uh, I understand that uh you got a trophy already uh as the rotor of the year.
- 7:41Don Armstrong: Ladies, ladies.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: Lady Street Rodder of the Year.
- 7:45Don Armstrong: Lady Street Rodder of the Year.
- 7:47Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 7:47Don Armstrong: Well, I was close.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: I'm very honored.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: I don't understand why.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: There's so many out there that deserve it.
- 7:53Don Armstrong: Well, you certainly do, uh, if nothing else, for the longevity that you and and the pain that you've gone through.
- 8:00Don Armstrong: So um how did you I gotta ask this question.
- 8:03Don Armstrong: How did you meet your husband?
- 8:04Don Armstrong: Don't tell me at the racetrack.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: No, at school.
- 8:07Don Armstrong: At school, high school.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: Mm-hmm.
- 8:09Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: He was we had a a deal at school where the school got to use the Caram Shrine parking all year, and once a year they got to use our parking.
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: And I was coming in late, and he was telling me I couldn't park there, and I didn't even know him.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: I said, I gotta park here, I'm late.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: He said, No, you can't park here.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: I just threw him the keys and said, Park it.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: I gotta go, I gotta get to school.
- 8:30Jeff Dziekan: And that's and that was the beginning.
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: And then I had to find him at the end of the day.
- 8:33Jeff Dziekan: And when you came back, your car had an LS in it and a custom paint job.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: No, it was still the sign, but I didn't have any idea where it was, and I didn't have my keys, so I had to find you.
- 8:41Don Armstrong: Well, that's good.
- 8:42Don Armstrong: So you actually found him.
- 8:45Don Armstrong: He just happened to be in the way.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: He happened to be in the way, yes.
- 8:48Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 8:48Don Armstrong: Well that that's quite a story.
- 8:50Don Armstrong: Where do you guys live?
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: We live in Bruceville, right outside Lorena, Texas.
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: You know where Temple is?
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: No.
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: Temple, you know where Temple, Texas is Waco.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay.
- 9:00Don Armstrong: Temple and Waco.
- 9:02Jeff Dziekan: That's not too bad.
- 9:02Don Armstrong: I have a friend of mine that lives in Grand Saline, and I tell somebody, well, uh Tommy lives in in Grand Saline.
- 9:08Don Armstrong: Where's that?
- 9:09Don Armstrong: Well, it used to be a salt mine there, and uh it's called Morton Salt.
- 9:13Don Armstrong: You ever heard of that?
- 9:14Don Armstrong: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 9:15Don Armstrong: Well, he lives outside of that one blinking yellow light that you would go through.
- 9:20Don Armstrong: Is yours a little bit bigger than that?
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: No.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: We don't have a blinking light.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: You know, okay.
- 9:26Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 9:26Don Armstrong: So the obviously there has been some work there that was uh that enabled you and your husband to make it to this point in your life.
- 9:36Don Armstrong: What did he do for a living?
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: He was a machinist.
- 9:39Don Armstrong: A machinist?
- 9:40Don Armstrong: Well, that kind of fits in with the small block Chevrolet.
- 9:44Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 9:45Don Armstrong: And uh is he still a machinist or is he just retired.
- 9:49Don Armstrong: Did he bring any of the tools home from the machine shop?
- 9:52Don Armstrong: Some of them in his head, yeah.
- 9:54Don Armstrong: That's why I asked that.
- 9:54Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: Some of them.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: And they went out of business and he got a lot of got a little bit of the equipment.
- 10:00Don Armstrong: That's good.
- 10:01Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 10:01Don Armstrong: So y'all like it there.
- 10:02Don Armstrong: What's what's the name of the high school?
- 10:05SPEAKER_00: Lorena High School, I guess.
- 10:06Don Armstrong: Is that where you went?
- 10:07SPEAKER_00: No, we went to Waco High.
- 10:08Don Armstrong: Oh, Waco?
- 10:10Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 10:10Don Armstrong: Oh, you're a big city girl.
- 10:12Don Armstrong: I got it.
- 10:13Don Armstrong: And he was happened to be there.
- 10:15SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 10:16Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 10:16Don Armstrong: So the machine shop took you from Waco out to Lorena, is it?
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we just moved out to Lorena to get out of Waco.
- 10:23Don Armstrong: So I see.
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: More room.
- 10:25SPEAKER_00: Bigger shop for him.
- 10:27Don Armstrong: I was waiting for you to say, yeah, it holds our herd of horses and cattle and none of that.
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: We don't get any of that.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: We have a big building that has to be.
- 10:35Jeff Dziekan: I was gonna say you've got your home and your building and a shop in the back.
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: The building might be bigger than the house.
- 10:41Mike Marrs: Well, so are all these people with you?
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: He's nodding his head yet, so I'm I'm the one with the sunglasses in the black is my son.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay.
- 10:51SPEAKER_00: Y'all in interviewed him before and your husband before.
- 10:54SPEAKER_03: Yep, yep, sure can.
- 10:55SPEAKER_03: Okay, okay.
- 10:55SPEAKER_03: So we're going through the family.
- 10:57SPEAKER_03: I mean, uh you know, we're gonna get next.
- 11:00Don Armstrong: The daughter, I guess, is next.
- 11:01Don Armstrong: The floorboard daughter.
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, she has no, she's still on the floorboard idea.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: She likes it now.
- 11:09Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 11:09Don Armstrong: Well, um, so next year, um, when you come, bring her so we can interview her.
- 11:16Don Armstrong: And that way we can say that we've interviewed the entire family.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 11:19Don Armstrong: That's take us years to do this, you know.
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: But then I got them grandkids.
- 11:24Don Armstrong: Oh, the grandkids.
- 11:25Don Armstrong: And and and how old are they?
- 11:26Don Armstrong: There's some here now.
- 11:28Don Armstrong: Yeah, they're oh that's part of this group, is the grandkids out there.
- 11:31SPEAKER_00: My son's kids are 15, 16, and 17.
- 11:34Don Armstrong: Perfect age, yeah.
- 11:35SPEAKER_00: My daughters are 19, 21, and gonna be 25.
- 11:39Don Armstrong: Wow.
- 11:40Don Armstrong: All right.
- 11:40Don Armstrong: Well, it's a family business through and through.
- 11:44Don Armstrong: Do you have a passion for cars?
- 11:46Don Armstrong: Sorta speak.
- 11:48Don Armstrong: Just give me something to drive, that's all you care about, right?
- 11:50Don Armstrong: Yeah, that's it.
- 11:51Don Armstrong: I think well, this has been a real pleasure.
- 11:54Don Armstrong: She is the hot rotter of the year.
- 11:56Don Armstrong: Lady, lady hot rodder of the year.

- 12:06Don Armstrong: They they left off that.
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: Uh well, bookie don't worry about that.
- 12:11Don Armstrong: Street Rodder of the Year.
- 12:12Don Armstrong: Yeah, we're gonna blame it on Rick.
- 12:14Don Armstrong: Well, thank you for stopping by and telling us the story.
- 12:16Don Armstrong: We appreciate it.
- 12:17Don Armstrong: It's uh it's always fun.
- 12:19Don Armstrong: And uh, we love these kind of interviews.
- 12:21Don Armstrong: We didn't even talk about the 54 Chevrolet.
- 12:24Don Armstrong: No, we didn't.
- 12:25Mike Marrs: Well, we we decided it's got a small block.
- 12:27Mike Marrs: It's got a few.
- 12:28Don Armstrong: Well, it's gonna speaks for itself.
- 12:29Don Armstrong: Yeah, yeah.
- 12:30Don Armstrong: It's got some Craig SS on it and a nice paint job, and it looks like a pretty nice interior, and we know that it's got a small block Chevrolet.
- 12:37Don Armstrong: What else is there to talk about?
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: It's air conditioned.
- 12:39Don Armstrong: Oh, it's air conditioned.
- 12:40Mike Marrs: There you go.
- 12:41Don Armstrong: Yeah, there very there you go.
- 12:43Don Armstrong: So you did a little extra on that.
- 12:45Jeff Dziekan: Let's let's talk about taking it for a test drive.

- 12:48Jeff Dziekan: There's that.

- 14:31Don Armstrong: 832-922-0963.
- 14:33Don Armstrong: That's 832-922-0963.
- 14:38Don Armstrong: One moment.
- 14:41Don Armstrong: That's a sweet sounding hot rod right there.
- 14:43Don Armstrong: That is a beautiful car.
- 14:45Don Armstrong: I like the way the wheels are tucked under the wheel wells and it fills up the entire thing.
- 14:49Don Armstrong: Look at that.
- 14:50Don Armstrong: Yeah, it it it's the tires are like 15 feet wide.
- 14:53Don Armstrong: Yeah, they are.
- 14:54Don Armstrong: All right, so what we're gonna do right now is we're going to talk about Jeff's car culture.
- 14:59Don Armstrong: Great feature that Jeff does every week.
- 15:01Don Armstrong: So here it is.
- 15:02Jeff Dziekan: Well, you know, we're at uh Hewlett Park, we got uh all the hot rods out here.
- 15:08Jeff Dziekan: When you're building a hot rod, what kind of engine do you put in it?
- 15:11Jeff Dziekan: I mean, what what what are you gonna build towards?
- 15:13Jeff Dziekan: So Well, that one there was a small block shaping.
- 15:16Jeff Dziekan: Exactly, and that's part of it, because the top hot rod engines include Chevy Small Blocks, Big Blocks, GMLS series, Ford Coyote V8s, each offering unique performance and reliability.
- 15:26Jeff Dziekan: Plus, it's the customization potential on what you can get and put aftermarket boots on.
- 15:30Jeff Dziekan: So the Chevy 350 small block is an iconic hot rod product worldwide, known for its affordability, reliability, vast aftermarket support.
- 15:39Jeff Dziekan: Typically produces between 260 and 400 horsepower.
- 15:43Jeff Dziekan: It fits most classic chassis.
- 15:46Jeff Dziekan: It makes it ideal for traditional hot rods and resto mods.
- 15:50Jeff Dziekan: The 383 Stroker, a modified 350, increases displacement in torque, offering 400 horsepower, offering a balance of performance, drivability without the bulk of a big block.
- 16:01Jeff Dziekan: So that's all part of it.
- 16:02Jeff Dziekan: And then you got the big blocks for raw power, street presence, the 454, another block, big blocks, uh they deliver the massive torque and horsepower.
- 16:11Jeff Dziekan: These engines range between 396 and 572 cubic inches, providing a dominant performance feel.
- 16:17Jeff Dziekan: They require a robust chassis, some of the more expensive ones, some of the custom ones, more robust cooling systems, but uh perfect for builders seeking a brute force and classic muscle car aesthetics.
- 16:28Jeff Dziekan: That's a big word.
- 16:30Jeff Dziekan: GM LS series, love them.
- 16:32Jeff Dziekan: The uh LS series engines are modern, lightweight, and high versatility.
- 16:36Jeff Dziekan: Uh from the Junkyard 5.3 engines, 700 horsepower you can put in some of these crate motors.
- 16:41Jeff Dziekan: LS swaps are popular for the reliability, compact size, and ease of installation.
- 16:47Jeff Dziekan: It's comparable with a wide range of transmissions and offer extensive aftermarket support.
- 16:52Jeff Dziekan: Then you're looking at uh the Ford Coyote V8.
- 16:55Jeff Dziekan: It's a 5.0, it's a V8, combines raw revving uh performance and modern reliability, it's favored for custom Ford builds and resto mods, but you can put it in really anything.
- 17:05Jeff Dziekan: Uh offering excellent power to weight ratio and adaptability.
- 17:09Jeff Dziekan: Coyote engines are particularly suitable for builders who want modern Ford performance and a classic hot rod package.
- 17:15Jeff Dziekan: That's what I'd do.
- 17:16Mike Marrs: And it's got kind of a classic sound, it sounds different.
- 17:19Jeff Dziekan: Exactly, because it's a high rev.
- 17:20Jeff Dziekan: It's a high revving engine.
- 17:22Jeff Dziekan: Uh crate engines provide a turnkey solution for hot rod builders.
- 17:26Jeff Dziekan: Popular options include the the 357 small block, uh you got delivering 357 horsepower, 407 foot pounds of torque, the LS3 V8, uh create the the crate engine simplify installation often include the intake manifolds, the distributors, the wiring harnesses, and are ideal for seeking reliability performance.
- 17:47Jeff Dziekan: You can buy the computers with them too, so you don't have to go and program all that as well.
- 17:51Jeff Dziekan: So choosing the right engine, selecting the best engine for your hot rod.
- 17:55Jeff Dziekan: If you're looking for a classic vibe and nostalgia, small block Chevy.
- 17:58Jeff Dziekan: Brute Force and Torque, big block Chevy.
- 18:01Jeff Dziekan: Versatility and modern performance, it would be the GMLS series, which are very popular.
- 18:06Jeff Dziekan: Uh high revving Ford bills would be the Coyote V8.
- 18:09Jeff Dziekan: Consider factors like horsepower, torque, weight, chassis, all that compatibility that goes on for the aftermarket as well.
- 18:16Jeff Dziekan: So choose the right one.
- 18:17Jeff Dziekan: You know what you want to do with it, you know what it wants to sound like, you want to know how fast you want to go, you want mileage, you want horsepower, torque.
- 18:24Jeff Dziekan: It's all part of it, and each one offers a different segment for that.
- 18:28Don Armstrong: You know that small block Chevy, you know I I always brag about that uh DZ motor, that 302 that was in the Z28s in 1969.
- 18:36Don Armstrong: I didn't realize that that was a 327 engine that was uh destroked.
- 18:41Don Armstrong: And um that not only that, but uh the 327, the 350, the 302.
- 18:47Don Armstrong: They've made all sorts of different displacement out of the same basic block.
- 18:52Don Armstrong: They just changed the stroke in it.
- 18:54Mike Marrs: Or maybe the maybe the the bore size on some of them, but it was basically the stroke.
- 18:59Don Armstrong: All basically the same small block Chevy engine from 1955.
- 19:04Jeff Dziekan: Aluminum heads, cast heads, iron heads, all of that.
- 19:07Don Armstrong: Double humps.
- 19:08Mike Marrs: Always look for the double hump.
- 19:09Jeff Dziekan: Yep.
- 19:10Don Armstrong: All of that.
