Latest / Foul Territory / Fair Territory: Ken Rosenthal's early trade deadline sellers list, Yanks surging, PCA MVP bid?
Transcript
- 0:07Speaker 1: Welcome everyone to the Thursday edition of Fair Territory. I'm
- 0:09Speaker 1: Ken Rosenthal here with my friend Alana Rizzo. And Alana,
- 0:13Speaker 1: we are going to start the show today reading the
- 0:16Speaker 1: calendar because it's important. And the calendar says that today's
- 0:21Speaker 1: date is June eighteenth. And why might you think that
- 0:25Speaker 1: is significant?
- 0:26Speaker 2: Well, I tell you because everybody seems to think that
- 0:29Speaker 2: the trade deadline, Ken Rosenthal, is tomorrow. It is not.
- 0:33Speaker 2: I understand that everybody wants to know what's going on,
- 0:35Speaker 2: who is buying, who is selling. But there's still plenty
- 0:38Speaker 2: of time. Let's just hold off a little bit, tell
- 0:40Speaker 2: us more.
- 0:41Speaker 1: Well, here's the deal, Alana, and you're absolutely right. The
- 0:44Speaker 1: deadline is still nearly seven weeks away. Most teams right
- 0:49Speaker 1: now are preparing for the draft, which of course occurs
- 0:52Speaker 1: during the All Star break, and then even after the
- 0:54Speaker 1: All Star break. If you take ten days and go
- 0:57Speaker 1: beyond that, say to July twenty sixth, deadline is still
- 1:02Speaker 1: almost a week away, or actually a little more than
- 1:04Speaker 1: a week away, because the deadline this year is August third.
- 1:06Speaker 1: That's the date Major League Baseball shows. It's a Monday.
- 1:09Speaker 1: It's the maximum attention day without having day games, having
- 1:14Speaker 1: guys pulled off the field and all that. So there's
- 1:17Speaker 1: a long way to go, That's what I'm trying to
- 1:19Speaker 1: say here, And I want to show people the wildcard
- 1:22Speaker 1: standings to show you just how muddled this whole sport
- 1:26Speaker 1: is right now, because there are so many teams still
- 1:29Speaker 1: in it, so much still to be defined before the deadline. Okay,
- 1:33Speaker 1: here's the American League wildcard standings, and I want you
- 1:36Speaker 1: to look beyond the leaders, which are obvious, but Texas, Baltimore, Minnesota, Houston.
- 1:42Speaker 1: I would categorize those teams all as disappointments to some
- 1:46Speaker 1: degree this season. They are all within two games of
- 1:50Speaker 1: the wildcard the final spot. Even the Red Sox, as
- 1:53Speaker 1: bad as they've been, and we'll get to them in
- 1:55Speaker 1: doork of the week, they're only five and a half
- 1:57Speaker 1: games out. So what I'm trying to say here there
- 2:01Speaker 1: is a lot more baseball to be played, a lot
- 2:03Speaker 1: more that can happen, and a lot more definition that
- 2:06Speaker 1: needs to occur. And let's look at the National League
- 2:08Speaker 1: because I'll show you it's almost the same way, stronger
- 2:12Speaker 1: league this year, but still muddled. Okay, at the top,
- 2:16Speaker 1: this is interesting. Padres Nationals and Cubs all tied right
- 2:19Speaker 1: now for the third spot. Then you go to the Diamondbacks, Pirates,
- 2:23Speaker 1: and Marlins and Reds. Those four teams, none of them
- 2:27Speaker 1: playing like world meters, all at various points had their moments,
- 2:31Speaker 1: but they're all within three games of the final spot.
- 2:34Speaker 1: So by the deadline, some of these teams on the
- 2:38Speaker 1: fringes of the wildcard race will probably fade, some might
- 2:42Speaker 1: even surge. Some who are currently in wildcard positions, say
- 2:46Speaker 1: the Nationals, the Cardinals, the White Sox, they may fade
- 2:50Speaker 1: because they were never expected to contend anyway. All of
- 2:53Speaker 1: these possibilities exist. So what we're talking about here are
- 2:58Speaker 1: a number of teams, really more than half the league,
- 3:01Speaker 1: that probably don't know what exactly they want to do yet.
- 3:05Speaker 1: And the other aspect of this, we can certainly identify
- 3:08Speaker 1: players who might be traded, but team needs are going
- 3:12Speaker 1: to evolve and change over the next six to seven weeks,
- 3:15Speaker 1: there's no doubt about that. So while certain teams are
- 3:18Speaker 1: out there already, the Giants are one. We wrote about
- 3:21Speaker 1: them this week, how they are already putting feelers out,
- 3:24Speaker 1: there's not going to be much action until the very end,
- 3:28Speaker 1: because there never is. So while it's fun to talk
- 3:31Speaker 1: about all this that we are going to talk about it.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Of course, Terrek Scoogle, the Tiger's the whole deal. The
- 3:37Speaker 1: reality is, the plot is still to be unveiled.
- 3:42Speaker 2: I can't remember a wild Card picture as muddled as
- 3:46Speaker 2: it is in twenty twenty six? Can you mention the
- 3:48Speaker 2: San Francisco Gent We know that they're going to be sellers.
- 3:51Speaker 2: They've already talked about that. You just wrote about it.
- 3:53Speaker 2: But let's continue to scratch the itch for fans. Besides
- 3:57Speaker 2: San Francisco, who else might be selling.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Well? Obviously, teams like the Rockies, teams at the bottom
- 4:04Speaker 1: of the barrel. The Red Sox are a team under
- 4:07Speaker 1: much discussion right now. They're one but all the teams
- 4:11Speaker 1: that you think about at the bottom of the standings
- 4:13Speaker 1: right now. And Detroit, of course, is going to be
- 4:15Speaker 1: a really interesting one fourteen games under five hundred. They
- 4:20Speaker 1: just put Glabor Torres back on the injured list. Yes,
- 4:23Speaker 1: Scooble is back, Yes Casey Miz is back. But the
- 4:27Speaker 1: idea of them being a serious contender when they're fourteen
- 4:30Speaker 1: under it's kind of hard to imagine. So yes, I
- 4:34Speaker 1: would expect them to sell and Scooble Yes to be
- 4:38Speaker 1: part of that conversation. Casey Mice to be part of
- 4:40Speaker 1: that conversation, both potential free agents, as is glabor tore Is.
- 4:44Speaker 1: He needs to get healthy. It's the second time on
- 4:46Speaker 1: the il with an oblique. So these are some of
- 4:50Speaker 1: the teams that we'll be talking about as sellers. The
- 4:53Speaker 1: Angels obviously a bottom of the barrel club, but we
- 4:57Speaker 1: never seem to be able to figure out what they're
- 4:59Speaker 1: going to do because they are rather unpredictable.
- 5:03Speaker 2: All right, So talk about a couple of teams that
- 5:06Speaker 2: might be adding. You had mentioned some of the teams
- 5:08Speaker 2: that were low on the totem pole in the al
- 5:10Speaker 2: Wild Carter a surprise team, I say. One of those
- 5:13Speaker 2: teams in the nl KEN is the Washington Nationals. Do
- 5:16Speaker 2: you think they make some sort of push to buy
- 5:19Speaker 2: at the deadline and force the issue.
- 5:22Speaker 1: It's so funny a lota. I remember talking to one
- 5:24Speaker 1: of their people in April, must have been late April,
- 5:28Speaker 1: and they were scoring a bunch of runs and the
- 5:31Speaker 1: person with the Nationals said to me, I can't imagine
- 5:33Speaker 1: this is going to continue. We're probably going to regress.
- 5:36Speaker 1: They haven't regressed. They continue to score like crazy. Yes,
- 5:40Speaker 1: they're pitching is insufficient, and yes, this is a rebuilding
- 5:44Speaker 1: team and they do not plan to contend or did
- 5:47Speaker 1: not plan to contend. But the reality is that you
- 5:49Speaker 1: can see it right there. They are in really good shape.
- 5:52Speaker 1: That's in the end at least, not as good shape obviously,
- 5:55Speaker 1: but in the wildcard position. Yes, so will they buy?
- 6:01Speaker 1: I expect them, the White Sox, the Cardinals, these rebuilding
- 6:05Speaker 1: clubs to buy, but in a limited way. They're not
- 6:08Speaker 1: going to go out and get Tarrek Scoogle. But will
- 6:11Speaker 1: they try to address their pitching some of these teams, Yeah,
- 6:13Speaker 1: I would think that they would, just not in a
- 6:15Speaker 1: way that would require them to part with big prospects.
- 6:19Speaker 2: What about the Orioles? Do they make a push?
- 6:22Speaker 1: The Oils are in to win this year and they
- 6:25Speaker 1: want to be a team that is getting back to
- 6:27Speaker 1: the playoffs. That was the whole plan, Signing Pete Alonso,
- 6:30Speaker 1: Signing Ryan Helsley, who came back last night, gave up
- 6:33Speaker 1: two home runs the first two pitches, but ultimately settled
- 6:36Speaker 1: down Taylor Ward. All these guys they are trying to
- 6:42Speaker 1: win now. They're not going to give up easily. And
- 6:45Speaker 1: I know people are talking about Avlete, Rutchman and all
- 6:47Speaker 1: these guys, and they could trade Ward, etc. No, not
- 6:50Speaker 1: so fast. If they fall out of it short anything
- 6:53Speaker 1: would be in play, though I doubt Rushman would. He's
- 6:55Speaker 1: back to being a star level player again. But at
- 6:58Speaker 1: that point, yeah, they could sell. But really I expect
- 7:01Speaker 1: them to go after more pitching and try to get
- 7:05Speaker 1: into an even better position with regard to the wildcard race.
- 7:08Speaker 1: As inconsistent as they've been, kind of disappointing as they've been,
- 7:12Speaker 1: they're still within range here of the wildcard, at least
- 7:15Speaker 1: the last wildcard, and I don't expect them to concede
- 7:19Speaker 1: unless it's absolutely obvious that they should.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Ken Looking at our chat right now, see Carrera nine
- 7:25Speaker 2: to five to one says my money is on Philadelphia
- 7:28Speaker 2: not making any moves at the deadline whatsoever, just going
- 7:31Speaker 2: to roll with it and run it back. So I
- 7:33Speaker 2: ask you this, Phillies are already looking to add though
- 7:36Speaker 2: according to the industry, they need an outfielder. They're looking
- 7:39Speaker 2: for a swing man, a fitt starter, a long relief
- 7:42Speaker 2: type of player to fill out that rotation. They optioned
- 7:44Speaker 2: Andrew Paynter to triple A. What do you see the
- 7:47Speaker 2: Phillies doing all on.
- 7:49Speaker 1: I'd be shocked if they stood Pat Dave Dombrowski, their
- 7:53Speaker 1: president of baseball operations, I'd have to look this up.
- 7:55Speaker 1: He's been doing this a long time. I don't recall
- 7:59Speaker 1: him ever sitting out a deadline. And as you just outlined,
- 8:03Speaker 1: their needs are clear. They need a right fielder Dolics
- 8:06Speaker 1: Garsia probably lost for the season and he wasn't hitting anyway.
- 8:10Speaker 1: They also could use, as you mentioned, that swingman, long
- 8:13Speaker 1: relief type because Painter back to Triple A is not
- 8:17Speaker 1: going to be their fifth starter. So yes, they're going
- 8:21Speaker 1: to add I would expect that's going to happen. And
- 8:24Speaker 1: while their farm system isn't particularly strong, Dave Dombrowski is
- 8:27Speaker 1: ultra aggressive always, and this team has an older group
- 8:32Speaker 1: of position players and even on the pitching staff as well,
- 8:36Speaker 1: and they know that their window is not going to
- 8:38Speaker 1: be extended forever with this particular group.
- 8:41Speaker 2: All right, more on the Orioles to come, But I
- 8:43Speaker 2: want to talk about another team in that division. One
- 8:47Speaker 2: team ken that's not going to be selling is the
- 8:49Speaker 2: New York Yankees. What they are doing now is incredibly impressive.
- 8:53Speaker 2: They won nine in the thirteen games without judging the
- 8:55Speaker 2: lineup without Stanton, Max Freed, and now Trent Grisham. How
- 8:59Speaker 2: are they doing it.
- 9:00Speaker 1: They're doing it with contributions up and down their roster.
- 9:03Speaker 1: They're doing it with a remarkable season from Paul Goldschmid.
- 9:07Speaker 1: He already has more home runs than he did last year.
- 9:09Speaker 1: He was only expected to be a part time guy,
- 9:12Speaker 1: and yet he's contributing in a big way. And the
- 9:15Speaker 1: thing that stands out the most about the Yankees is
- 9:18Speaker 1: the overall depth of their roster. They were built to
- 9:22Speaker 1: withstand these types of injuries. Now, obviously they need Aaron Judge,
- 9:27Speaker 1: they need Stanton too, and Max Freed, all of those
- 9:29Speaker 1: players along with Grisham. But they have alternatives now. Jason
- 9:34Speaker 1: Domingez came back from the minor leagues. They put Cabairo
- 9:37Speaker 1: in the outfield, started playing Volpie. It's short and on
- 9:40Speaker 1: the pitching staff as well. They have some pretty outstanding
- 9:44Speaker 1: prospects that we may see later this season. Carlos Lebroney
- 9:47Speaker 1: could be a factor in their bullpen. Overall, their roster
- 9:52Speaker 1: top to bottom is just deeper than in the past.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Bellinger's having an All Star, Top ten MVP candidate type
- 9:59Speaker 1: of Seas and they just have a lot of good
- 10:01Speaker 1: players doing a lot of good things. Now they're going
- 10:05Speaker 1: to need bullpen help. They know that at the deadline
- 10:07Speaker 1: they want to get a right handed hitting catcher. Chris
- 10:10Speaker 1: Kershner of The Athletic wrote today about Minnesota's Ryan Jeffers.
- 10:14Speaker 1: That's a team too. That's going to be interesting because yes,
- 10:17Speaker 1: they sold big time last year, but their new head
- 10:21Speaker 1: of ownership, Tom Pohlad, has kind of said, we want
- 10:25Speaker 1: to compete, and they are competing, so again, it's going
- 10:29Speaker 1: to be really interesting to see. But the Yankees getting
- 10:31Speaker 1: back to them what they are doing here, As you
- 10:33Speaker 1: mentioned nine to thirteen without judge, that's really impressive.
- 10:38Speaker 2: All right, really quick, We're going to wrap up the
- 10:41Speaker 2: Orioles momentarily. I think we're going to do it next
- 10:43Speaker 2: in Grilling Ken because there is some certain direction that
- 10:46Speaker 2: they're going Ken with Cal Ripken Jr. That I definitely
- 10:49Speaker 2: want to get your take on. So please make sure
- 10:51Speaker 2: guys you've subscribed to Foul Territory on YouTube and wherever
- 10:54Speaker 2: you listen so you don't miss an episode. We want

- 12:24Speaker 2: with an even bigger payout gambling problem called one eight
- 12:28Speaker 2: hundred gambler or one eight hundred my reset. All right, guys,
- 12:36Speaker 2: get those questions in for Grill and Ken. The first one.
- 12:38Speaker 2: I just wanted to put a bow on the Orioles conversation. Ken,
- 12:41Speaker 2: it seems like cal Ripken Junior is taking a more
- 12:44Speaker 2: active role in the team's player development. What do you
- 12:47Speaker 2: mean by that?
- 12:48Speaker 1: Yes, I wrote a story today with Brittieroli about this
- 12:51Speaker 1: very thing, and the story goes into a number of things,
- 12:55Speaker 1: but the big news is that cal Ripken Jr. Really,
- 12:59Speaker 1: for the first time to he retired, is becoming active
- 13:03Speaker 1: with the Orioles. And he, of course, as a player,
- 13:06Speaker 1: was a master of fundamentals, devoted to fundamentals, and he
- 13:11Speaker 1: wants to see the Orioles in the minor leagues start
- 13:13Speaker 1: to get back to doing some fundamental things. This is
- 13:16Speaker 1: an initiative that Mike Alias, their president base operations, kind
- 13:21Speaker 1: of went on by hiring Mike Shildt to be a
- 13:24Speaker 1: coordinator of instruction in the upper levels of the minor leagues. Ripkin,
- 13:28Speaker 1: of course is a part owner. He doesn't need to
- 13:30Speaker 1: be hired, but he has been giving more input. He
- 13:33Speaker 1: talks with Elias regularly, talks with minor league coaches, was
- 13:37Speaker 1: active in spring training. So this is an interesting development
- 13:40Speaker 1: for a team that at times this season and last
- 13:44Speaker 1: season certainly has not looked like a fundamental monster.
- 13:48Speaker 2: All right, This is a question that I think a
- 13:50Speaker 2: lot of people perhaps have. How strong of an MVP
- 13:53Speaker 2: candidate is Pete crow Armstrong. He's been on fire Ken
- 13:57Speaker 2: of course, he didn't have the best interaction with White
- 14:00Speaker 2: Sox fan about a month ago, but he's been on
- 14:02Speaker 2: fire since then. Is he an MVP?
- 14:05Speaker 1: He is an MVP candidate now. Of course, in the
- 14:08Speaker 1: National League. As long as Otani is playing and playing
- 14:10Speaker 1: effectively and pitching and hitting, Otani is going to be
- 14:14Speaker 1: the favorite every year, And understandably so. But right now
- 14:18Speaker 1: among National League position players, PI k Armstrong is first
- 14:22Speaker 1: in both Baseball References version of War and Fangrabs version
- 14:26Speaker 1: of War. Now, a lot of that is attributable to
- 14:29Speaker 1: his defensive prowess in center field, a premium position, but
- 14:33Speaker 1: as you mentioned, Alana, he's been hot offensively. Now in
- 14:37Speaker 1: the National League, you have some other worthy MVP candidates
- 14:40Speaker 1: early on, Corbyn Carroll of the Diamondbacks, certainly, James Wood
- 14:44Speaker 1: of the Nationals. Absolutely, it will all come down to Otani,
- 14:48Speaker 1: as it always does. But Pca, in a year that
- 14:52Speaker 1: started really badly for him, has yes emerged as an
- 14:55Speaker 1: MVP candidate.
- 14:57Speaker 2: All right, see Carrera nine to fifty. One would like
- 14:59Speaker 2: to know this. This is a question in regards to
- 15:01Speaker 2: the Phillies, while all season long needing a thumper and
- 15:03Speaker 2: one more in the outfield. By the way, does Trey
- 15:06Speaker 2: Turner still play for the Phillies? Do you think Trey
- 15:08Speaker 2: Turner gets moved?
- 15:10Speaker 1: No chance Tray Turner gets moved. And Trey Turner is
- 15:13Speaker 1: a guy with a huge contract. Why would they even
- 15:16Speaker 1: think about trading him when it would be almost impossible
- 15:20Speaker 1: to move that deal When he's playing not at his
- 15:22Speaker 1: best what they need from Trey Turner is Trey Turner
- 15:25Speaker 1: to find it offensively. Again, There's every reasona believe he will,
- 15:30Speaker 1: and we've seen a number of outstanding hitters this season.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Turner is one. Manny Machado another who have had basically
- 15:37Speaker 1: season long struggles. But I will bet on both those
- 15:41Speaker 1: guys coming out of it at some point. Now. Granted,
- 15:44Speaker 1: the season is well long here and it's high time
- 15:47Speaker 1: for them to come out of it. But I don't
- 15:49Speaker 1: believe Trey Turner is done as a big contributor. He's
- 15:52Speaker 1: playing good defense, he's running the base as well. It's
- 15:56Speaker 1: just going to take more time, I guess for him
- 15:58Speaker 1: to come out of it offensively. But no, oh, good
- 16:00Speaker 1: luck for them trying to trade him. It's not going
- 16:02Speaker 1: to happen.
- 16:03Speaker 2: And then not any I wouldn't think. I wouldn't think
- 16:05Speaker 2: that they would even try to move him. Okay, question
- 16:07Speaker 2: in regards to the Twins and Byron Buxton, Matt Patton
- 16:11Speaker 2: eighty eight oh six wants to know, do you expect
- 16:13Speaker 2: Buxton to be traded?
- 16:14Speaker 1: I do not, and I know there's going to be
- 16:16Speaker 1: a lot of talk about Byron Buxton, and let's face it,
- 16:20Speaker 1: the twins could end up sellers, and they could end
- 16:22Speaker 1: up trading Joe, Ryan and maybe others like Ryan Jeffers
- 16:26Speaker 1: as we mentioned. But Buxton seems committed to Minnesota and
- 16:31Speaker 1: clearly he's going to not necessarily want the team to
- 16:34Speaker 1: be torn down around him. But he's almost the mic
- 16:37Speaker 1: trout of the Midwest and certain respects, he wants to
- 16:40Speaker 1: win with his team. He wants to win as a twin.
- 16:43Speaker 1: So no, to answer the question, I do not expect
- 16:46Speaker 1: him to be moved all.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Right back to the Cubs for just a second, not
- 16:50Speaker 2: in regards to PCA, But what will the Cubs do
- 16:54Speaker 2: if anything at the deadline? Christian Evilis wants you three
- 16:57Speaker 2: wants to know well.
- 16:59Speaker 1: They're President of Baseball Operations Jed Hoyer made it pretty
- 17:01Speaker 1: clear about a week ago that for them to be
- 17:05Speaker 1: serious buyers, really for any team to be serious buyers,
- 17:08Speaker 1: they have to have in their minds a reasonable expectation
- 17:12Speaker 1: of getting a buy one of the two buys in
- 17:14Speaker 1: each league. Now the Cubs should be that team. There's
- 17:18Speaker 1: no question. They had the two ten game winning streaks earlier,
- 17:21Speaker 1: and they haven't been the same starting with their ten
- 17:24Speaker 1: game losing streak. They've been even lately inconsistent. They need pitching. Obviously,
- 17:29Speaker 1: they've had a horrible run of injuries to their rotation,
- 17:32Speaker 1: and they have a number of potential free agents on
- 17:35Speaker 1: their roster, pretty big names, and they're not going to
- 17:39Speaker 1: sign all of them. So I could possibly see them
- 17:42Speaker 1: being creative. I wrote about the possibility of Saya Suzuki
- 17:45Speaker 1: about a week ago. I don't know that that would happen,
- 17:48Speaker 1: but I would imagine they entertain everything. But it will depend.
- 17:52Speaker 1: As we go back to our first segment on where
- 17:55Speaker 1: they are, we're a long way away from the deadline.
- 17:57Speaker 1: We don't even know what their needs might be at
- 18:00Speaker 1: that time. Their needs might be different then than they
- 18:03Speaker 1: are now.
- 18:04Speaker 2: And I didn't think many people thought that the Saint
- 18:06Speaker 2: Louis Cardinals were going to compete this year, perhaps a
- 18:09Speaker 2: surprise team. And Sir blood Raven thirty eighty nine to
- 18:12Speaker 2: eighty one wants to know, if they have their eyes
- 18:14Speaker 2: on the future, what types of prospects or picks do
- 18:16Speaker 2: you see them targeting for players like Dustin may Romero,
- 18:20Speaker 2: nutbar O'Brien.
- 18:21Speaker 1: Well, that's a pretty as stude observation, because those are
- 18:24Speaker 1: their leading trade candidates. And May and Romero in particular,
- 18:29Speaker 1: and O'Brien as relievers could bring good stuff. May as
- 18:33Speaker 1: seemingly resurgent as a starter now. Nutbar is an interesting player,
- 18:36Speaker 1: left handed hitter who can play all three outfield positions.
- 18:40Speaker 1: I don't know that they're going to be able to
- 18:44Speaker 1: justify trading all of them. If they are in the
- 18:47Speaker 1: top National League wildcard spot. Maybe they'll do one or
- 18:50Speaker 1: two things, buy and sell. A lot of teams will
- 18:53Speaker 1: operate that way, buying and selling, kind of mixing it
- 18:56Speaker 1: up and maybe staying true to what they're trying to
- 18:59Speaker 1: do through that. But I don't see them trading all
- 19:02Speaker 1: four of their guys. This is not like the off season.
- 19:05Speaker 1: The off season, yes, they traded everybody, all the big
- 19:08Speaker 1: time money veterans that they had, But now when you
- 19:11Speaker 1: look at the standings, why would you want to take
- 19:13Speaker 1: this apart?
- 19:14Speaker 2: And Dustin May currently increasing his trade value with the
- 19:18Speaker 2: way that he is performing as a member of the
- 19:21Speaker 2: Saint Louis Cardinals. Okay, this is in regards to the
- 19:23Speaker 2: Angels and one of the best pitchers in the game
- 19:25Speaker 2: right now. Well, the Angels trade Soriano.
- 19:28Speaker 1: The answer to that is beats me and The reason
- 19:31Speaker 1: I say that is because we all know they should,
- 19:35Speaker 1: We've said this for years, should embark upon or rebuild
- 19:40Speaker 1: and get some younger players in there and kind of
- 19:42Speaker 1: just get going again. Their owner, Artie Moreno, has refused
- 19:46Speaker 1: to do that, refuse to trade Sho Heo Tani has
- 19:48Speaker 1: refused to trade others over the years, and with Soriano
- 19:52Speaker 1: and Redebts, what they have are two controllable starters. Now,
- 19:56Speaker 1: because they're controllable starters, they'd have great value on the market,
- 20:00Speaker 1: but they could also have great value to the Angels
- 20:03Speaker 1: if the Angels can get out of their own way
- 20:05Speaker 1: and build a competitive team. They haven't shown they can
- 20:08Speaker 1: do that, but they also haven't shown an incarnation to
- 20:11Speaker 1: bust it up.
- 20:13Speaker 2: All right, guys, thanks so much for the question. We
- 20:15Speaker 2: crown this week's Dude and Dork's of the Week. Next,
- 20:18Speaker 2: but first, a word about seat geek. All right, Ken,
- 20:22Speaker 2: So do you have a good game this week Mets
- 20:24Speaker 2: and Phillies? I guess a good game, certainly from the
- 20:27Speaker 2: Phillies perspective. What are you looking most forward to? And
- 20:30Speaker 2: we'll get into the seat geek stuff.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Momentarily, I would say I am looking most forward to
- 20:36Speaker 1: this weekend. Jakob Mizerowski pitching again and he's going Friday
- 20:40Speaker 1: against the Braves. He's coming off that miraculous performance. Well
- 20:44Speaker 1: miraculous might be strong, but amazing performance last Friday against
- 20:48Speaker 1: the what do they play, oh, the Philadelphia Phillies and
- 20:52Speaker 1: fifteen strikeouts, one hit. It was amazing. So that's the
- 20:56Speaker 1: thing I'm looking forward to every time miss pitches. Now
- 20:59Speaker 1: it's an event, all right.
- 21:01Speaker 2: If you want to get tickets to see the mizpitch,
- 21:03Speaker 2: or you want to get tickets to any game. I mean,
- 21:05Speaker 2: Ken's game this week is Mets Philly's on FS one

- 21:37Speaker 1: See geek, I'm the dude, so that's what you call me.
- 21:46Speaker 2: All right, we welcome you to Dude of the Week.
- 21:48Speaker 2: I guess I'll go first on this one. My Dude
- 21:51Speaker 2: of the week is longtime baseball man Dusty Baker, turning
- 21:55Speaker 2: seventy seven years young. This is a man that absolutely
- 22:00Speaker 2: loves the game of baseball. He doesn't really do social media,
- 22:04Speaker 2: but we can still wish him a happy birthday and
- 22:07Speaker 2: thanks for everything that you've done in this great game.
- 22:10Speaker 2: And I guess he has a book coming out now too,
- 22:12Speaker 2: ken called Great Day or called Crossroads. So let's support
- 22:16Speaker 2: Dusty in that.
- 22:18Speaker 1: A lot of that book was written co written by
- 22:21Speaker 1: the guy who tweeted that, Steve Kettman, and it's an
- 22:24Speaker 1: amazing baseball life. It's an amazing book and I recommend
- 22:28Speaker 1: it to everyone. Now, my dude of the week is
- 22:30Speaker 1: the guy I was just talking about, Jacob Mizerowski. That
- 22:34Speaker 1: game last Friday night was one of the best pitch
- 22:37Speaker 1: games you will ever see. Fifteen strikeouts against the Phillies,
- 22:41Speaker 1: no walks, one hit, allowed his first career complete game.
- 22:46Speaker 1: It was sheer dominance. The Phillies had no chance and
- 22:49Speaker 1: of course they've got some accomplished hitters on their rosters
- 22:52Speaker 1: from potential Hall of famers, But the miz right now
- 22:56Speaker 1: is at the forefront of pitching in this sport. It's
- 23:00Speaker 1: not just the velocity. He's commanding it. And he's my
- 23:04Speaker 1: duty of the week.
- 23:05Speaker 2: Yeah, no doubt about it, you young pitcher in this game.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Certainly a bright future ahead for him. Hopefully he can
- 23:11Speaker 2: stay healthy with you's throwing one hundred and four point
- 23:13Speaker 2: five miles an hour. Hopefully the arm stays on ken
- 23:15Speaker 2: all right, who is your dudes of the week? To
- 23:19Speaker 2: get them in in the comments, let us know who
- 23:21Speaker 2: we missed time to get to the dork of the week.
- 23:31Speaker 2: All right, guys, my dork of the week. I kind
- 23:33Speaker 2: of think that this example just absolutely personifies everything that
- 23:38Speaker 2: Pete crow Armstrong is in one situation. The kid is
- 23:43Speaker 2: so good and such a dynamic player, hits for the
- 23:47Speaker 2: cycle as a member of the Cubs. Of course, I
- 23:49Speaker 2: believe it was against the Colorado Rockies. The final leg
- 23:52Speaker 2: of the cycle was a single, so that was the
- 23:56Speaker 2: easiest one. You would think that was what he did
- 23:58Speaker 2: to complete the cycle, and then he was picked off
- 24:02Speaker 2: when he kind of was waiting for the standing ovation
- 24:05Speaker 2: and took his foot off the bag and uh got
- 24:08Speaker 2: picked off. So even when he's really good, there's a
- 24:11Speaker 2: blunder right around the corner. So I kid, I kid,
- 24:15Speaker 2: But my dork of the week is PCA.
- 24:18Speaker 1: All Right, I'm not going to agree with this, but
- 24:20Speaker 1: a lot of PCA had an amazing week. But yes,
- 24:22Speaker 1: he did get picked off. So I can understand where
- 24:24Speaker 1: you're coming from. Now, my dork of the week, and
- 24:27Speaker 1: this is a multiple time winner. It's a team. It's
- 24:31Speaker 1: a team we keep talking and talking and talking about
- 24:34Speaker 1: because they're not very good. And I want to show
- 24:38Speaker 1: you a tweet from my friend Rob Bradford. Rob Bradford
- 24:41Speaker 1: works up in Boston for WEEI Red Sox. Fans know
- 24:45Speaker 1: him and love him. The Red Sox lost three nothing
- 24:47Speaker 1: he's talking about last night. The Red Sox left thirteen
- 24:49Speaker 1: runners on base. The Red Sox are now two nine
- 24:52Speaker 1: and one in home series, nine and one at home
- 24:55Speaker 1: in series. The Red Sox are now oh and thirty
- 24:57Speaker 1: nine when trailing after eight innings. The Red Sox are
- 25:00Speaker 1: now twenty nine and forty two and six and sixteen
- 25:04Speaker 1: versus ale. These teams now, they're obviously dorks of the
- 25:08Speaker 1: week based on their performance alone, but really their dorks
- 25:11Speaker 1: of the week based on the mixed signals we keep
- 25:15Speaker 1: getting from their front office about where they might be
- 25:18Speaker 1: as an organization. Sam Kennedy comes on one day and says, hey,
- 25:22Speaker 1: we gotta turn it around. We're gonna have to look
- 25:24Speaker 1: at selling. I don't know that he used the words selling,
- 25:26Speaker 1: but that was the implication. Craig Breslo comes out a
- 25:29Speaker 1: few days later and says, we're still in this thing. Man.
- 25:33Speaker 1: True they are, and true they could come back, I
- 25:36Speaker 1: guess in the standings, But my goodness, there's no Crochet,
- 25:39Speaker 1: there's no Roman Anthony. There's no life to this team,
- 25:43Speaker 1: even after the firing of Alex Corry. That usually kind
- 25:45Speaker 1: of sparks. The club did it in Philadelphia with manningly
- 25:48Speaker 1: replacing Rob Thompson, but not happening in Boston, and the
- 25:53Speaker 1: question is going to be for them. Okay, they can sell,
- 25:57Speaker 1: but who exactly goes Chapman. Sure, but you trade Sunny Gray?
- 26:02Speaker 1: Can you get much for him because of the salary?
- 26:05Speaker 1: Do you pay it down? Wilson Contreras, I don't know
- 26:07Speaker 1: why you would trade him when you need right handed hitting.
- 26:10Speaker 1: But there are all these questions that are going to
- 26:12Speaker 1: face and reality is going to hit them at some
- 26:15Speaker 1: point in the near future.
- 26:16Speaker 2: Oh, don't worry about it, Ken, Romey Gonzalez is coming back,
- 26:20Speaker 2: He's on the way. It's gonna be just fine. Don't worry.
- 26:23Speaker 2: It's fine. Roman Anthony's on the IL. Trevor story is
- 26:26Speaker 2: on the L, Garrett Crochet is on the I L.
- 26:28Speaker 2: Marcela Meyer can't make adjustments. It's funny. Well, it's totally fine.
- 26:33Speaker 2: Don't worry. Everything's good. Everything's good at Fenway. Fewest runs
- 26:36Speaker 2: in Major League Baseball this season, the Red Sox, and
- 26:39Speaker 2: they cannot win at home to save their life. That
- 26:42Speaker 2: is a good dork of the week, Ken Rosenthal, you
- 26:44Speaker 2: were always spot on, all right, guys, That is it
- 26:47Speaker 2: for US. Fal Territory is coming up next. Guess who
- 26:51Speaker 2: your host is. It is A J. Pierzinski. He is
- 26:54Speaker 2: with Eric Kratzcott Braun is off today. Their guests some
- 26:57Speaker 2: good ones, Brandon Hyde, Spencer no Osbam, Cody Stave and
- 27:00Speaker 2: Hagen who covers the Tigers. They join Can of course
- 27:03Speaker 2: is back on Monday. Can have a great weekend. On
- 27:05Speaker 2: your Mets Phillies game. You guys, thanks so much for
- 27:07Speaker 2: being here. We'll see you next time.
