Speaker 6: It absolutely is. We're actually live from the venue right now.
• 3:31
Speaker 6: We are getting everything together. We have put more steps
• 3:35
Speaker 6: in this morning than we probably do in six months.

Speaker 6: So yeah, we're pumped and we're getting.
• 3:40
Speaker 3: Ready wait till the show starts. But you know, you

Speaker 3: so you can take a look at it and the
• 4:02
Speaker 3: listeners can take a look at it and see everything
• 4:04
Speaker 3: that you have got crammed into this two day event.
• 4:07
Speaker 3: I don't know how you are going to pull all
• 4:09
Speaker 3: this off, but I know you will, so just talk
• 4:11
Speaker 3: about it a little bit.
• 4:14
Speaker 5: Schedule, schedule, schedule. Speaking of schedules, we have a ton
• 4:20
Speaker 5: of seminars going on both Saturday and Sunday. Reptiles Live
• 4:25
Speaker 5: with the Zoology Zone Science Center will be here again
• 4:28
Speaker 5: this year with shows on Saturday and Sunday. And come
• 4:31
Speaker 5: out and meet Britney the Python and the alligators the kids.
• 4:36
Speaker 3: Hold on Britney the Python. Yes, the python's name is Britney.
• 4:43
Speaker 6: It is She is named after Britney spears O.
• 4:48
Speaker 3: I was gonna say, I mean, of all the names
• 4:50
Speaker 3: for a python, I don't think Britney would make the cut.
• 4:52
Speaker 3: But okay, I get the COMI I get it now.
• 4:55
Speaker 6: She's a big yellow python and Brittany iconically came out
• 4:59
Speaker 6: with a python around her neck that was yellow. So
• 5:01
Speaker 6: that's Brittany got her name.
• 5:03
Speaker 3: I got it, I got it? What else you got?
• 5:07
Speaker 5: Hunt Schuff'll be here doing a wild game cooking demonstration
• 5:11
Speaker 5: that afterwards you get to try which is amazing. And
• 5:18
Speaker 5: then we closed the show on Sunday with our famous
• 5:21
Speaker 5: lightsaber show. You know, we needed someone in a pinch
• 5:24
Speaker 5: a couple of years ago, so we we got the
• 5:27
Speaker 5: Outer Room Praxium Lightsaber School to come in and do
• 5:30
Speaker 5: a demonstration, and it was so big. We've booked them
• 5:33
Speaker 5: every year since we have.
• 5:34
Speaker 3: Yeah, I remember that. I was there at the show
• 5:37
Speaker 3: a couple of years ago and they said there's going
• 5:41
Speaker 3: to be a lightsaber show and I thought, Okay, what
• 5:43
Speaker 3: exactly is it? That was amazing. I actually saw that
• 5:46
Speaker 3: in person a couple of years ago. That was absolutely amazing.
• 5:50
Speaker 6: Yeah, they always put on a great show. And it's
• 5:52
Speaker 6: funny because they're like, oh, are you having that for
• 5:54
Speaker 6: the kids, And we're not fooled. There are my adults
• 5:56
Speaker 6: that that stand around and watch that show than there
• 5:58
  Speaker 6: are kids.
• 6:00
Speaker 3: Well, I mean, you're exactly right, because most adults are
• 6:02
Speaker 3: just kids at heart anyway. And if you talk start
• 6:04
Speaker 3: talking about lightsabers, that's part of a generation, you know,
• 6:07
Speaker 3: the seventies and eighties and even some nineties kids that
• 6:10
Speaker 3: are all all yeah, one percent, I'm all about that.
• 6:13
Speaker 3: And I've talked about this harsh winter that we've had
• 6:15
Speaker 3: and I know folks in the skiing industry loved it,
• 6:17
Speaker 3: but not everybody else did. And people are going to
• 6:20
Speaker 3: be willing and willing and able to get outside and
• 6:24
Speaker 3: looking forward to it and spend a little time in
• 6:25
Speaker 3: the great outdoors and h And the weather looks good.
• 6:28
Speaker 3: So if you're coming, I know a lot of folks
• 6:30
Speaker 3: make that trip up up to Morgantown for the show
• 6:32
Speaker 3: from the Charleston are and Beckley area and other areas.
• 6:34
Speaker 3: Weather looks fine this weekend, great time, especially if you're
• 6:38
Speaker 3: into the fishing thing. It would be a great time
• 6:40
Speaker 3: to kind of, you know, get those fire stoked a
• 6:42
Speaker 3: little bit about getting out on the water.
• 6:45
Speaker 6: Oh yeah, absolutely. We have so many places vendors for
• 6:49
Speaker 6: fishing this year and we are bringing the outdoors in.
• 6:53
Speaker 6: We have a fishing Frenzy trout pond that we are
• 6:56
Speaker 6: bringing in for people to you know, practice their cast
• 7:00
Speaker 6: and there are going to be a bunch of trout
• 7:02
Speaker 6: in there, but they're only going to be four golden trout.
• 7:04
Speaker 6: Do you catch a golden trout, you get a prize.
• 7:07
Speaker 3: That's pretty cool. What kind of prizes we talk I mean,
• 7:09
Speaker 3: you don't want to give too much of it away.
• 7:10
Speaker 3: But some pretty cool prizes.
• 7:13
Speaker 6: Oh my goodness, So that one has a gift card
• 7:16
Speaker 6: giveaway from ihop, But we have so many prizes to
• 7:19
Speaker 6: give away. We give away a prize every hour on
• 7:22
Speaker 6: the hour, and then at the end of the show
• 7:25
Speaker 6: we have some grand prizes that are awesome. We have
• 7:27
Speaker 6: a thirteen gun corner cabinet from our family craft shop.
• 7:31
Speaker 6: We have an Edison electric bike from high Q Fun Cars.
• 7:35
Speaker 6: We have a blue Wave Big Fish one O three
• 7:37
Speaker 6: pedal drive kayak from Mountaineer RV. And we have a
• 7:40
Speaker 6: one of a kind bird hunt with an overnight cabin
• 7:43
Speaker 6: stay for two at hunter Ridge, Wing and Clay.
• 7:45
Speaker 3: And I'm looking right now at that graphic I referenced
• 7:48
Speaker 3: earlier that electric bike. Man, these electric bike things have
• 7:51
Speaker 3: become really, really popular, and you're going to be giving
• 7:54
Speaker 3: one of those away.
• 7:56
Speaker 6: Oh yeah, it's been sitting in my office for a
• 7:59
Speaker 6: month to give away. But I told somebody, you know,
• 8:03
Speaker 6: I know the phrases you never forget how to ride
• 8:06
Speaker 6: a bike, But that's not true. That's not true at all.
• 8:09
Speaker 5: That is not true because I tried to ride it
• 8:11
Speaker 5: down the hallway the other day and it didn't work
• 8:14
  Speaker 5: out so well.
• 8:14
  Speaker 7: You know.
• 8:15
Speaker 3: I would love to see the surveillance video of that.
• 8:19
Speaker 3: I would love to see you know you guys trying
• 8:21
Speaker 3: to ride that down the hallway. Girls. I appreciate you

• 14:43
Speaker 8: Sir, Hey, it's baseball and let's go all right?
• 14:48
Speaker 3: All right? So in Nitro, you got a big event
• 14:51
Speaker 3: happening coming up on March the six. We want to
• 14:53
Speaker 3: give people plenty of time to plan for. It's a
• 14:55
Speaker 3: week away. What do you get going on there, Joe.
• 14:58
Speaker 8: Well, a couple of weeks ago, wife and I, Angie
• 15:00
Speaker 8: and I we were up at the Regal Cinema at
• 15:03
Speaker 8: the Nitro Marketplace to see a movie and flight risk
• 15:08
Speaker 8: in fact, and in the previews there came out a
• 15:13
Speaker 8: preview for a documentary entitled Brothers After War. And you know, sometimes,
• 15:19
Speaker 8: just like you and I, the light bulb just goes off.
• 15:22
Speaker 8: I mean it might be by mistake, but it still
• 15:24
Speaker 8: goes off. But go ahead, I resemble that remark. But
• 15:29
Speaker 8: nonetheless I looked at Angie. I said, that is a
• 15:33
Speaker 8: perfect promotion for the Nitro Convention Visitors Bureau and the
• 15:38
Speaker 8: Nitro History and Wars Museum to combine efforts and to
• 15:43
Speaker 8: provide a showing, the showing at the Regal Cinema for
• 15:46
Speaker 8: area veterans and for active servicemen and women. So we
• 15:51
Speaker 8: got a hold of the general manager at the Regal
• 15:54
Speaker 8: Cinema and we have put together a free viewing of this.
• 16:00
Speaker 8: This is a movie. This is a documentary that is
• 16:03
Speaker 8: being showed across the country right now in the various
• 16:06
Speaker 8: regal cinemas. But again it's called Brothers After War and
• 16:10
Speaker 8: we have a special showing of it on March sixth,
• 16:13
Speaker 8: like you said, at six pm. So it was a
• 16:17
Speaker 8: natural because Nitro was formed because of World War One
• 16:21
Speaker 8: and the production of gunpowder to support the military efforts.
• 16:25
Speaker 3: Talking to Joe Stevens from the City of Nitro and
• 16:27
Speaker 3: the Nitro Convention of VISARs Bureau talk about the film itself.
• 16:30
Speaker 3: What is the whole idea behind the film?
• 16:33
Speaker 8: Well, Brothers After War combines footage from the movies producers
• 16:38
Speaker 8: time embedded with the elite soldiers and marines during the
• 16:43
Speaker 8: height of the Iraq War, and it's got present day
• 16:46
Speaker 8: reunions in it. They capture the resilience and the humanity
• 16:51
Speaker 8: of everybody who served. The documentary basically invites audiences to
• 16:58
Speaker 8: experience the raw all and and just the stories the
• 17:03
Speaker 8: journeys of the veterans and they talk. You can go online,
• 17:07
Speaker 8: you can google Brothers at After War and see the
• 17:11
Speaker 8: trailer and if you're like me, you just step back
• 17:14
Speaker 8: and you go wow wow.
• 17:17
Speaker 3: I mean, it sounds like it's a fascinating peace and
• 17:20
Speaker 3: it's going to be shown, as you said, And I
• 17:22
Speaker 3: love this the fact that Joe, it's free for veterans
• 17:25
Speaker 3: and current active service members and their families. It's going
• 17:28
Speaker 3: to meet March sixth, And I don't know, Joe, I
• 17:32
Speaker 3: don't know if there's any other city in a state
• 17:34
Speaker 3: of West Virginia that goes above and beyond for veterans,
• 17:37
Speaker 3: as the city of Nitro does. Like you said, this
• 17:39
Speaker 3: is a city that was formed out of out of
• 17:41
Speaker 3: out of the war effort, so to speak.
• 17:45
Speaker 8: And David, and we're proud of that, we really are.
• 17:47
Speaker 8: We have the Living Memorial Park, we have the Veterans
• 17:49
Speaker 8: Memorial Flag Area, and we do quite a few things
• 17:53
Speaker 8: for the veterans. I mean, they serve so that we
• 17:55
Speaker 8: can have what we have today. And you you above
• 17:59
Speaker 8: all ill understand that fully and with your dad's your
• 18:04
Speaker 8: dad's involvement and everything, but you know, Dave, it's just
• 18:08
Speaker 8: a way to say thank you, and it's the veterans.
• 18:11
Speaker 8: It's also, like I said, free for the service. Active
• 18:14
Speaker 8: servicemen and women and their families come on out. We're
• 18:18
Speaker 8: actually we've invited the Junior Air Force rotwos ROTC students
• 18:24
Speaker 8: over at Nitro High School. They'll be joining us that night.
• 18:27
Speaker 8: And one thing I'd like to mention Dave is there's
• 18:30
Speaker 8: going to be exhibits in the lobby. So the movie
• 18:32
Speaker 8: will start at six o'clock. Get there a little early,
• 18:35
Speaker 8: but we will have information boosts for from the VA
• 18:39
Speaker 8: the West Virginia, VA will be there if you've got
• 18:41
Speaker 8: any questions, and also the Crisis Suicide Prevention Team will
• 18:46
Speaker 8: be there if you've got need to talk to somebody
• 18:49
Speaker 8: along those lines. So it's going to be information and
• 18:52
  Speaker 8: it's going to be a free documentary. I think it's
• 18:54
Speaker 8: going to be a good evening.
• 18:55
Speaker 3: But Dave, Alan Chill and five anyline percent of Department
• 18:57

• 18:59
Speaker 3: a large at and inch Pepperoni pizza and Pepperoni calzone
• 19:02
Speaker 3: twenty one ninety nine, eat in pick up or get delivery.
• 19:05
Speaker 3: Find your hustands. You're at closest Hustans that is a
• 19:07
Speaker 3: Hustan's Pizza dot com and Joe, I love the fact
• 19:10
Speaker 3: that you are involving the young people in this as well,
• 19:13
Speaker 3: because sometimes, you know, I mean we talk about and
• 19:15
Speaker 3: you and I have talked about this on the show before.
• 19:17
Speaker 3: When I was a kid, there were World War two,
• 19:19
Speaker 3: I mean even World War One veterans around. Now there's
• 19:22
Speaker 3: very few World War Two veterans left, and now you
• 19:25
Speaker 3: know they're starting because time, time's a thing you can't stop,
• 19:28
Speaker 3: you know, the calendar. So there's going to be a
• 19:31
Speaker 3: point where there's gonna be fewer Korean War veterans, fewer
• 19:34
Speaker 3: Vietnam War veterans, and so on and so forth. And
• 19:36
Speaker 3: sometimes I think we get our young people involved and
• 19:39
Speaker 3: they read in their in their history books and their
• 19:41
Speaker 3: classes about all these wars and about military and it
• 19:45
Speaker 3: kind of just, you know, it just maybe it just
• 19:47
Speaker 3: gets glossed over sometime. But when you can you can
• 19:50
Speaker 3: bring out these RTC groups and these student groups, and
• 19:52
Speaker 3: you can let them see these stories in live and
• 19:55
Speaker 3: in living color and with these displays and everything. I
• 19:58
Speaker 3: think it's a very important part part of it. And
• 20:00
Speaker 3: I think that you folks should be applauded for that.
• 20:03
Speaker 8: Hey, well said, And we do a lot, and we
• 20:07
Speaker 8: really support the Air Force Junior ROTC at Nitro High School.
• 20:12
Speaker 8: They do a great job over there, Major Blue and
• 20:15
Speaker 8: Sergeant Norman, and we're just happy to be able to
• 20:18
Speaker 8: include them. And again at the free showing at six
• 20:22
Speaker 8: o'clock this documentary, if you just watched the three and
• 20:25
Speaker 8: a half minute trailer, you'll understand understand why it's important
• 20:29
Speaker 8: to get this word out.
• 20:30
Speaker 3: What else is going on in the boomtown of Nitro.
• 20:34
Speaker 3: What else you got to tell us? Man there's always
• 20:36
Speaker 3: something big going on there. What's going on?
• 20:38
Speaker 8: Mark your calendar. You open the door, I'm walking through.
• 20:42
Speaker 3: Go ahead, go ahead man.
• 20:44
Speaker 8: April fifth, it's going to be a community celebration of
• 20:48
Speaker 8: the beginning of Little League baseball. The season starts April
• 20:53
Speaker 8: to fifth, and with the Nitro Little League, we're going
• 20:56
Speaker 8: to have a parade at eleven o'clock of course opening games,
• 20:59
Speaker 8: but some thing being added this year and we're going
• 21:02
Speaker 8: to have a baseball card show at in the commons
• 21:06
Speaker 8: of Nitro High School, a free kim or not with
• 21:11
Speaker 8: the Nitro Antique Ball As we're having a free uh
• 21:14
Speaker 8: baseball card show. We're working our best to get a
• 21:18
Speaker 8: couple folks in, maybe be signing some autographs. We'll have
• 21:22
Speaker 8: more news on that as we get a little bit closer, Dave.
• 21:25
Speaker 8: Something that you and I can participate in is a
• 21:27
Speaker 8: home run hitting contest. And the reason why you and
• 21:30
Speaker 8: I can do it, it's going to be with a
• 21:32
Speaker 8: whiffle ball. Yeah, exactly. It's going to be on the
• 21:37
Speaker 8: Challenger field at Nitro High School. We'll be moving the
• 21:41
Speaker 8: defenses in and out for the different age groups that
• 21:44
Speaker 8: we'll have and for you and I they will be
• 21:47
Speaker 8: right behind shortstop problems. Yeah, we'll have you and I
• 21:54
Speaker 8: will have a bundant bunting or a trial, but that'll
• 21:58
Speaker 8: be happening during the day. Also, we're doing a lot
• 22:03
Speaker 8: of places around the Metro Valley. They do team trivia
• 22:06
Speaker 8: at night in the different watering holes throughout the valley. Well,
• 22:10
Speaker 8: we're doing We're doing it a little bit different this time.
• 22:13
Speaker 8: We're going to do it on the jumbo tron at
• 22:16
Speaker 8: Nitral High School, weather permitting, of course, and if we
• 22:18
Speaker 8: have to go inside, we'll do the gym on their
• 22:20
Speaker 8: junior tron as it may be. But all the questions
• 22:24
Speaker 8: will be related to baseball. It'll be all baseball trivia
• 22:29
Speaker 8: and you can put your team together. We've got a
• 22:32
Speaker 8: team surprise here. Let's go Os will be the name
• 22:37
Speaker 8: of the team, but yeah, of course, but it'll all
• 22:40
Speaker 8: be baseball. That'll be starting at two o'clock and we'll
• 22:43
Speaker 8: be letting people know if it's at the high school
• 22:46
Speaker 8: stadium or in the gym. First prize two hundred dollars cash,
• 22:51
Speaker 8: second prize one hundred dollars, Third prize will be fifty
• 22:55
Speaker 8: dollars and fourth prize and autograph from Dave Allen when
• 22:58
  Speaker 8: your favorite whippleball and I know that'll be a collector's
• 23:02
Speaker 8: item for everybody. Then we're going to top off the
• 23:05
Speaker 8: evening free movie at the stadium on the Jumbo trone
• 23:09
Speaker 8: weather permitting Field Dreams.
• 23:12
Speaker 3: Last time I signed something like that, it turned out
• 23:14
Speaker 3: to be a subpoena, so I'm not following. I'm not
• 23:16
Speaker 3: following for that again.
• 23:17
  Speaker 7: Joe.
• 23:17
Speaker 3: Sounds like you got a lot of great activities going on.
• 23:19
Speaker 3: Let's go back and wrap up and give the details
• 23:22
Speaker 3: again on the event March sixth.
• 23:25
Speaker 8: Free showing Brothers after War. It's for veterans and servicemen
• 23:29
Speaker 8: and women free March to sixth. That's six o'clock. It's
• 23:33
Speaker 8: being brought to you by Nitro CBB, the Nitro History
• 23:36
Speaker 8: and Wars Museum and the great folks. Hey, they're stepping
• 23:39
Speaker 8: up the Regal Nitro Cinema, which is in the Nitro
• 23:43
Speaker 8: Marketplace and that's right you know where Walmart, Mo's and
• 23:48

• 23:51
Speaker 8: o'clock the showing will start. We can well, you know,

• 23:58
Speaker 8: some questions, because we'll have some information for you. David's
• 24:01
Speaker 8: just a way to say thanks.
• 24:02
Speaker 3: All right, Joe, I appreciate it. Man, sound like you
• 24:04
Speaker 3: always got a lot of stuff going on in Boomtown.

• 25:01
Speaker 3: knowing the foodie that you are, I am, you should
• 25:05
Speaker 3: go to the Women's and Children's Hospital cafeteria for lunch
• 25:08
Speaker 3: and get their chicken wrap. They do it every Thursday
• 25:11
Speaker 3: and it's excellent. All right, I'll keep that in mind.
• 25:15
Speaker 3: Food tips. I appreciate it, Texas. Young people today should
• 25:21
Speaker 3: be educated how the government treats veterans who fought in wars.
• 25:24
Speaker 3: I'm sure once they realize the government uses and uses
• 25:27
Speaker 3: that abandons them, they won't be so eager to sacrifice
• 25:29
Speaker 3: their mental and physical well being for corporate economics. I
• 25:33
Speaker 3: will agree with the first part of that. I think
• 25:36
Speaker 3: young people should be educated greatly about how our government
• 25:41
Speaker 3: treats veterans and how how they were treated traditionally over
• 25:46
Speaker 3: the years. And again it's a little personal for me,
• 25:48
Speaker 3: and Joe kind of alluded to it. You know, my
• 25:49
Speaker 3: dad was a Vietnam veteran. He died of Agent Orange poisoning,
• 25:54
Speaker 3: and the stories he didn't like to talk a lot
• 25:56
Speaker 3: about his service to be honest with you. But one
• 25:58
Speaker 3: thing that he would talk about was the way he
• 26:00
Speaker 3: was treated when he came back to America following the
• 26:03
Speaker 3: Vietnam War. And it wasn't necessarily by the government, it
• 26:05
Speaker 3: was by the people. But he got over it. He
• 26:07
  Speaker 3: was a Christian and that's that's that's what they do.
• 26:11
Speaker 3: Texays Dave ding Dong. The witch is gone. Randall Reid
• 26:14
Speaker 3: Smith has finally been relieved of his position as Secretary
• 26:17
Speaker 3: of West Virginia Arts, Culture and History. Editors note here,
• 26:20
  Speaker 3: I don't I didn't know that that was made official.
• 26:24
Speaker 3: I thought it was, but I don't know if any
• 26:25
Speaker 3: official statements come out about that. Continuing just last year,
• 26:31

• 26:42
Speaker 3: an improvement. Wow, all right, Texas, serious question.
• 26:48
  Speaker 7: Well.
• 26:48
Speaker 3: The information provided to veterans include the two billion dollars
• 26:51
Speaker 3: in cuts and employee termination that Orange Daddy Jesus Rapist
• 26:55
Speaker 3: is implementing. Harsh texts. These include reductions who I've wasteful
• 27:00
Speaker 3: areas such as the crisis line, veterans, disability ratings, assessing
• 27:04
Speaker 3: toxic exposure, cancer screening, and other essential services. Republicans have
• 27:08
Speaker 3: no honor or integrity. As a Texter Tick says, when
• 27:14
Speaker 3: you're young, your grandparents try to tell you their history
• 27:16
Speaker 3: and you don't care because it doesn't interest you at
• 27:18

Speaker 3: Good morning, sir, Welcome to the show. Thanks Dave. Great
• 30:52
Speaker 3: to be here, Thank you for being here. Always a
• 30:55
Speaker 3: pleasure to have you on the show. But before we
• 30:56
Speaker 3: get in the specific reason that you're here today overall
• 31:00
Speaker 3: what's going on on campus.
• 31:02
Speaker 4: So right now we're enjoying a little bit of quiet
• 31:04
Speaker 4: time with spring break, but we're wrapping up basketball season.
• 31:07
Speaker 4: So we hosted Glenville State yesterday, split a couple of
• 31:12
Speaker 4: games with them, and then we'll have West Virginia State
• 31:14
Speaker 4: University on campus Saturday for the end of the season matchups. Well,
• 31:20
Speaker 4: the women will be playing at two o'clock, the men
• 31:22
Speaker 4: at four o'clock. Always be a full house, lots of
• 31:24
Speaker 4: energy there for a little Canau Valley battles. We're looking
• 31:28
Speaker 4: forward to that and hopefully moving into the Mountain East
• 31:31
Speaker 4: Conference Championships on a high note.
• 31:34
Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, that's always a good rivalry when you
• 31:36
Speaker 3: and when the two respective schools here in the valley
• 31:40
Speaker 3: get together. Yeah, you in Cage go back and forth
• 31:43
Speaker 3: on that a little bit, just a little bit. Eric,
• 31:45
  Speaker 3: great guy.
• 31:46
Speaker 4: We get along really well. And the last games we
• 31:49
Speaker 4: played over at State both were one was a buzzer
• 31:54
Speaker 4: beater and the other the game was decided by one basket,
• 31:57
Speaker 4: so two really close contests, so hopefully will swing our
• 32:01
  Speaker 4: way on Saturday.
• 32:02
Speaker 3: You know, we're talking with the Marty Roth, the president
• 32:05
Speaker 3: of the University of Charleston, and I always know I
• 32:08
Speaker 3: was like talked about to our university heads about this.
• 32:10
Speaker 3: You're always keeping a close eye on the legislative session,
• 32:12
Speaker 3: I know. Is there anything in particular that you're looking
• 32:15
Speaker 3: for in the world of higher education out of the session.
• 32:18
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 32:18
Speaker 4: The main thing that's important to us is we want
• 32:20
Speaker 4: to make sure the dollars to help students, scholarships and
• 32:25
Speaker 4: so forth, that they follow the student, and that's really
• 32:29
Speaker 4: important to us. In that way, the student has a
• 32:31
Speaker 4: choice about where they want to go to school, and
• 32:34
Speaker 4: they can take their promise or other scholarship to that institution.
• 32:39
Speaker 4: So that's something that's been a great tradition over at
• 32:43
Speaker 4: the Capitol and we certainly hope that that continues. The
• 32:48
Speaker 4: governor previous governor of the legislature have always been very
• 32:52
Speaker 4: generous to higher education, helping us expand nursing programs given
• 32:56
Speaker 4: the shortage of nursing clinicians in the area. So we're
• 33:00
Speaker 4: hoping as resources are available, those funds will continue. We're
• 33:05
Speaker 4: starting a program right now having two hundred and twenty
• 33:09
Speaker 4: five emergency medical service personnel throughout the state enroll in
• 33:14
Speaker 4: a free Leadership Certificate program that's through state funding to
• 33:19
Speaker 4: help us attract and retain those important professionals we need
• 33:23
Speaker 4: in emergency situations. So we're hoping as resources are available,
• 33:28
Speaker 4: that we're able to assist the state government agencies and
• 33:31
Speaker 4: so forth with resources to help with recruiting and retention
• 33:36
Speaker 4: the professionals we need here in the state.
• 33:38
Speaker 3: Now, I know you wanted to talk about the UC
• 33:40
  Speaker 3: Works program.
• 33:42
Speaker 4: Yeah, So the U SEE Works is something that we
• 33:43
Speaker 4: started this year. It's off to a great start, and
• 33:46
Speaker 4: the idea is that there are always a lot of
• 33:49
Speaker 4: students who just aren't thinking about college. It could be
• 33:52
Speaker 4: because they just don't come from a household where mom
• 33:57
Speaker 4: or dad or president or their parents haven't had an
• 34:00
Speaker 4: opportunity to earn a college degree. It could be that
• 34:04
Speaker 4: they're from a kind of low income situation and college
• 34:07
Speaker 4: just doesn't seem to be attainable. And what we want
• 34:10
Speaker 4: to do is make those students aware that there are
• 34:14
Speaker 4: opportunities to get a great education here at the state
• 34:17
Speaker 4: and at the University of Charleston. So the UC Works program,
• 34:21
Speaker 4: we're primarily focused right now on Kenaw County, Putnam County,
• 34:25
Speaker 4: kind of surrounding areas where we can provide students with
• 34:30
Speaker 4: no cost of attendance. They will have free tuition coming
• 34:35
Speaker 4: to the University of Charleston. So it's going to be
• 34:37
Speaker 4: a combination of federal funding through the PELL grant system,
• 34:43
Speaker 4: PROMISE scholarship from the state, other state funding that may
• 34:47
Speaker 4: be available, and then through our donors we make up
• 34:50
Speaker 4: the difference so those students will be able to enroll
• 34:53
Speaker 4: at you see no cost of tuition. In addition, we
• 34:57
Speaker 4: want to make sure that they have opportunities to work
• 35:00
Speaker 4: all the way through college. So could be part time work,
• 35:04
Speaker 4: it could be an internship, and we want that work
• 35:06
Speaker 4: to be related to the area that they want to
• 35:09
Speaker 4: study the profession that they want to enter. So if
• 35:11
Speaker 4: they want to become a nurse, we want to get
• 35:14
Speaker 4: them aligned with Charleston Area Medical Center or Thomas Memorial
• 35:20
Speaker 4: so that they can get experience in nursing and when
• 35:24
Speaker 4: they graduate earned their degree, they'll be ready to move
• 35:27
Speaker 4: into that job. And by partnering with Workforce West Virginia,
• 35:33
Speaker 4: the employers who hire these students for the part time
• 35:37
Speaker 4: work or internships can get partial reimbursement for the compensation
• 35:42
Speaker 4: that they provide to the students.
• 35:43
Speaker 3: And I love that this sort of thing is going on,
• 35:47
Speaker 3: doctor Roth, not only at the University of Charles but
• 35:49
Speaker 3: at the other institutions. Is people are taking and you've
• 35:52
Speaker 3: been in the higher education game for some time. It
• 35:55
Speaker 3: wasn't an old reference right the way. I'm just saying,
• 35:57
Speaker 3: you've been doing it for a while and in the
• 36:01
Speaker 3: face of higher education and the needs have changed. And
• 36:03
Speaker 3: I talk about this when I have mentioned Eric Cage,
• 36:06
Speaker 3: or I have Casey Sachs or any of the others
• 36:09
Speaker 3: that are on from this year, they all talk about
• 36:10
Speaker 3: that that the needs of the employer are changing so much.
• 36:16
Speaker 3: And I applaud higher education in general, no matter the
• 36:19
Speaker 3: institution for listening to the employers and saying, okay, hey,
• 36:23
Speaker 3: well instead of us just producing students and you find
• 36:25
Speaker 3: a place for them, you come to us and you
• 36:27
Speaker 3: tell us what you want. I know you folks are
• 36:29
Speaker 3: big on that. You see.
• 36:30
Speaker 4: Absolutely, It's like Wayne Gretzky used to say, you need
• 36:33
Speaker 4: to skate to where the puck's going to be, not
• 36:36
Speaker 4: where it was. So we're always looking forward to see
• 36:39
Speaker 4: what are the areas where we need skilled workforce here
• 36:42
Speaker 4: in the Kanaw Valley in West Virginia, in the Greater
• 36:45
Speaker 4: Appalachian region, and we're going to try to identify ways
• 36:49
Speaker 4: that we can help address those needs.
• 36:51
Speaker 2: When we know that we'll be.
• 36:52
Speaker 4: Able to put out a real high quality program, students
• 36:55
Speaker 4: will be interested in the program, and they're going to
• 36:57
Speaker 4: be great jobs on the back end. And you see
• 37:01
Speaker 4: and at other institutions we're just laser focused on accessibility
• 37:05
Speaker 4: and affordability. Well, unfortunately, we're in a market right now
• 37:09
Speaker 4: where each year there's fewer students graduating from high school,
• 37:12
Speaker 4: so we have a smaller and smaller market to draw from.
• 37:15
Speaker 4: So one way to combat that is expanding the number
• 37:20
Speaker 4: of students who can become eligible, who can participate in
• 37:25
Speaker 4: a college experience by lowering some of the economic barriers
• 37:29
  Speaker 4: for them.
• 37:30
Speaker 3: So again to doctor Marty rotheu Versity Charleston, Dave Aland

• 37:50
Speaker 3: you don't know can hurt you. I do want to
• 37:52
Speaker 3: ask you about this about the downtown Innovation Hub. Of course,
• 37:55
Speaker 3: a couple of weeks ago, we all were shocked by
• 37:57
Speaker 3: the videos of the of the water main break and
• 38:00
Speaker 3: downtown Charleston. In one of the scenes that I saw particularly,
• 38:04
Speaker 3: it was going right by the Innovation hubub. I mean,
• 38:07
Speaker 3: I'm assuming things are back to normal there. You got
• 38:08
Speaker 3: that all cleaned up.
• 38:10
Speaker 4: Yes, thanks for asking, Dave. Yes, we're really fortunate. It's
• 38:13
Speaker 4: a kind of elevated space. So some water did come
• 38:17
Speaker 4: in through the doors, but really we reached the threshold
• 38:21
Speaker 4: of the stairs going up to the main flooring area,
• 38:24
Speaker 4: so it was a quick cleanup. We had our doors
• 38:27
Speaker 4: back open that week and we're back in action. We
• 38:31
Speaker 4: now have our fourth cohort of small businesses going through
• 38:35
Speaker 4: our Business Accelerator program. The program is designed to help
• 38:41
Speaker 4: existing small businesses scale up and grow through a series
• 38:44
Speaker 4: of workshops, coaching, advising, and networking. It's free to the participants,
• 38:50
Speaker 4: last about six months and we do it twice a year.
• 38:54
Speaker 4: So we have our fourth cohort, which is about halfway
• 38:57
Speaker 4: through the program, and we're taking applications for the next
• 39:00
Speaker 4: cohort that will start in July.
• 39:02
Speaker 3: All right, good stuff going on out there at U
• 39:05

• 39:07

• 39:10
Speaker 4: We appreciate it. If you want to come down to

Speaker 3: TJ Meadows. They'll be live with the welch Armory in
• 42:48
Speaker 3: the middle of the flood cleanup efforts down there. Ten
• 42:50
Speaker 3: oh six Metro News talk Line with Wilson and Meadows. Now,
• 42:54
Speaker 3: I would hope to check in with them to kind
• 42:56
Speaker 3: of get a little bit of a preview of the show.
• 42:58
Speaker 3: Got a text earlier from mister Meadows that they are
• 43:04
Speaker 3: feverishly working trying to get things ready to go for
• 43:06
Speaker 3: the broadcast. So I said, all right, guys, well we'll
• 43:08
Speaker 3: give you the day off. So but they will be
• 43:10
Speaker 3: live at ten oh six from the Armory down there.
• 43:12
Speaker 3: And in talking to TJ earlier this morning, he's posted
• 43:16
Speaker 3: by the way, if you don't follow TJ Meadows on
• 43:19
Speaker 3: social media, make sure you do because he's got a
• 43:21
Speaker 3: lot of good stuff posted on his x page. Is
• 43:23
Speaker 3: also an all new Facebook page for TJ Meadows. He's
• 43:27
Speaker 3: got some great pictures on there from some of the
• 43:30
Speaker 3: big boards, the things that they actually needed down there.
• 43:34
Speaker 3: Because sometimes what happens when you have these flooding events,
• 43:38
Speaker 3: people they want to help in their hearts in the
• 43:39
Speaker 3: right place, but they just collect a bunch of stuff
• 43:42
Speaker 3: that people don't really need, and some unfortunately they'll use
• 43:44
Speaker 3: it as an opportunity. People will clean out the closets
• 43:47
Speaker 3: and bring up a bunch of stuff that they really
• 43:49
Speaker 3: can't use. So if you want to know what it is,
• 43:51
Speaker 3: exactly that they need. Go over to TJ's social media
• 43:55
Speaker 3: because he's got some pictures posted there in some ways
• 43:58
Speaker 3: that you can donate as well. Speaking of that, what
• 44:02
Speaker 3: an awesome event we had yesterday. You the greatest listeners
• 44:06
Speaker 3: in the world. Help make it possible are Flood Drive
• 44:09

• 44:15
Speaker 3: of course Union Mission helping us out with that. Check
• 44:18
Speaker 3: this out. All of our stations were out there on
• 44:20
Speaker 3: the lot yesterday seven am till six pm. Drum roll please.
• 44:25
Speaker 3: Among the items yesterday, we collected enough bleach to fill
• 44:29
Speaker 3: a full pallet. Rob Reel, who never ceases to amaze
• 44:34
Speaker 3: me with what goes on in that head of his,
• 44:36
Speaker 3: figured this out. We collected enough buckets yesterday to create
• 44:41
Speaker 3: a stack of buckets that were four stories high. Particularly,
• 44:46
Speaker 3: one of the top two or three items that they
• 44:48
Speaker 3: had asked for was buckets. We had enough buckets yesterday
• 44:52
Speaker 3: to create a stack that would have been four stories
• 44:55
Speaker 3: high had it been a building. We had some apple
• 45:00
Speaker 3: producers out of the Eastern Panhandle. I'm talking about the
• 45:03
Speaker 3: Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia that heard what we were
• 45:07
Speaker 3: doing and drove here from completely on the other end
• 45:12
Speaker 3: of the states and donated over a half ton of apples. Hey,
• 45:18
Speaker 3: we'll take it. And we also raised over well over
• 45:23
Speaker 3: three thousand dollars in cash and we've turning all that
• 45:27
Speaker 3: over to Union Mission. So again, thank you so much
• 45:30
Speaker 3: to Federal of the Member Swiss Federal Credit Union, West Virginia,
• 45:33
Speaker 3: the Charleston Dirty Birds and Union Mission, and also to
• 45:36
Speaker 3: Chick fil A. Tom Minturn and those folks are absolutely fantastic.
• 45:40
Speaker 3: Anytime we have an event going on here, they say, hey,
• 45:43
Speaker 3: we want to provide lunch not only for your staff,
• 45:46
Speaker 3: but also lunch for you volunteers, because we have a
• 45:49
Speaker 3: lot of volunteers that come out to help with these
• 45:50
Speaker 3: events as well. And Tom and the folks at Chick
• 45:53
Speaker 3: fil A does a great job of pybody lunch for us.
• 45:55
Speaker 3: We certainly do appreciate that. But more importantly, I want
• 45:58
Speaker 3: to say thank you to you the great listeners in
• 46:00
Speaker 3: the world. And not to be too corny here, but
• 46:03
Speaker 3: when you hear the words that you hear on all
• 46:06
Speaker 3: of our stations, proud to live here too, it really
• 46:10
Speaker 3: means something to us here of the stations of WVRC Media.
• 46:14
Speaker 3: We are a West Virginia owned and operated company based
• 46:17
Speaker 3: right here in Charleston, also in Morgantown, and being a
• 46:20
Speaker 3: West Virginia company that employs a lot of West Virginians,
• 46:24
Speaker 3: it means something to us. It really does to be
• 46:27
Speaker 3: able to help out those in need. Coming up on
• 46:30
Speaker 3: tomorrow's show, Hannah Gardner from the Kannaala Charleston Humaine Association
• 46:33
Speaker 3: will be here with this week's Adopt Me Please pet
• 46:35
Speaker 3: of the Week State ad Commissioner Kent Leonhardt. We'll be
• 46:37
Speaker 3: talking about the Winter Blues farmers Market event that's happening
• 46:40
Speaker 3: at the Connell Steama Convention Center this weekend. Casey Sachs
• 46:44
Speaker 3: from Bridge Valley will be stopping by doctor Casey Sacks,
• 46:46
Speaker 3: president of the Bridge Valley, and I'm going to introduce
• 46:49
Speaker 3: you to a lady by the name of Marnie Rustmeyer.
• 46:53
Speaker 3: Now she's a native of Charleston and she's now living
• 46:56
Speaker 3: in New York City and she's doing some really remarkable
• 46:59
Speaker 3: things in the world of cosmetic care, particularly for those
• 47:03
Speaker 3: who have suffered with breast cancer. She's going to join
• 47:06
Speaker 3: us in studio tomorrow. She's making a return trip to Charleston,
• 47:10
Speaker 3: back to her hometown, so we are going to talk
• 47:12
Speaker 3: to her on the show tomorrow. Texas twenty years of
• 47:18
Speaker 3: Afghanistan and Iraqi wars and look how those ended. Our
• 47:21
Speaker 3: current president, during his first term negotiated the release of
• 47:24
Speaker 3: five thousand Taliban fighters that took over the country when
• 47:27
Speaker 3: the last president high tailed troops out of it, blood,
• 47:29
Speaker 3: sweat and tears or sacrifice for the whims and politics
• 47:32
Speaker 3: of economics. The VA is threatened by the chainsaw of
• 47:35
Speaker 3: a South African whose fortune has built on American tax
• 47:38
Speaker 3: subsidies and who is complaining the government spends too much
• 47:41
Speaker 3: and is bloated. Texas, Dave, congratulations and thank you for
• 47:45
Speaker 3: collecting supplies for the flood victim's great job. To everyone involved, Well,
• 47:48
Speaker 3: that was our company and not me. It was our
• 47:51
Speaker 3: company and it was again the folks from a member's
• 47:54
Speaker 3: choice Federal Credit Union, the Charleston Dirty Birds and Union
• 47:57
Speaker 3: Mission and you the greatest listeners in the world. Lead
• 48:00
Speaker 3: story this morning wv Metronews dot com. Four counties have
• 48:04
Speaker 3: now been named major disaster areas by President Trump, that
• 48:07
Speaker 3: declaration coming down late yesterday evening. The counties are McDowell, Mercer,
• 48:12
Speaker 3: Mingo and Wyoming. The disaster assistance has been approved, meaning
• 48:16
Speaker 3: in the statement from FEMA assistants this is their quote here.
• 48:21
Speaker 3: Assistants can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs,
• 48:25
Speaker 3: low cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other
• 48:28
Speaker 3: programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the
• 48:32
Speaker 3: effects of the disaster. End quote. Now, Governor Morrissey's public
• 48:36
Speaker 3: assistance request is still being reviewed. We understand by FEMA
• 48:40
Speaker 3: the governor out with the statement thanking President Trump and
• 48:43
Speaker 3: others for getting this done. And look, I applaud all
• 48:46
Speaker 3: involved as well. I know our Washington delegation was also
• 48:49
Speaker 3: involved in it, so hats off to them. And I'm
• 48:53
Speaker 3: still this is just me, Dave, still holding down hope
• 48:57
Speaker 3: that somehow the President will somehow a knowledge in words
• 49:01
Speaker 3: written or spoken the flood victims. Considering that the era
• 49:06
Speaker 3: of the area is impacted, or southern West Virginia and
• 49:10
Speaker 3: eastern Kentucky and some of the areas where the President
• 49:13
Speaker 3: had the most support across the country period, I mean
• 49:18
Speaker 3: that part of it shouldn't matter. And you heard me
• 49:21
Speaker 3: talking about it earlier this week and on my social
• 49:23
Speaker 3: media pages as well, So I will let that go,
• 49:26
Speaker 3: but still still holding out hope that maybe President will
• 49:30
Speaker 3: at least acknowledge the areas that were flooded. Don't hold
• 49:35
Speaker 3: your bread. Maybe you will. Maybe I'm wrong, and we
• 49:37
Speaker 3: got to FEMA. You know they you know, God bless
• 49:40
Speaker 3: them for that. But still a couple of words here
• 49:44
Speaker 3: wouldn't hurt. But Dave Island show the five any librety

• 50:00
Speaker 3: governor is he going to downsize state government to consolidate
• 50:03
Speaker 3: departments as Doze is doing with the federal government. Well,
• 50:06
Speaker 3: you know, if you listen to the state of the
• 50:07
Speaker 3: state Governor Patrick Morrissey said, and he kind of alluded
• 50:11
Speaker 3: to President Trump that there were some inefficiencies in state
• 50:15
Speaker 3: government and he wanted to look at him. So I
• 50:16
Speaker 3: don't know of anything official. There's been talk of consolidating
• 50:19
Speaker 3: various departments. So we shall see Texas day. Thank you
• 50:24
Speaker 3: President Trump for doing so many positive things in such
• 50:27
Speaker 3: a short time for our state and our country announced
• 50:31
Speaker 3: yesterday that the TBT, the Basketball Tournament will be back
• 50:34
Speaker 3: in Charleston for the first time since twenty twenty two.
• 50:37
Speaker 3: Announcement coming down yesterday sixty four teams, one million dollars
• 50:40
Speaker 3: per Charleston, of course, one of the regional sites for
• 50:43
Speaker 3: the tournament. It's going to be held July eighteenth through
• 50:45
Speaker 3: the twenty third here in the capital city. I'll have
• 50:48
Speaker 3: Tim Brady, who's the head of the Charleston Convention and
• 50:51
Speaker 3: Visitors Bureau, on the show on Monday to talk about it.
• 50:55
Speaker 3: Another big economic shot in the arm for the city.
• 50:57
Speaker 3: I want to close with this though, for anyone who
• 50:59
Speaker 3: thinks that what President Trump is doing isn't getting some
• 51:03
Speaker 3: attention in the corporate world and making some people ignored
• 51:07
Speaker 3: as well, I will send something from a listener whose
• 51:10
Speaker 3: companies shall remain nameless, and they had a Zoom meeting
• 51:13
Speaker 3: titled the Employment Landscape under the Trump Administration and basically
• 51:17
Speaker 3: what the what the people involved here said, This is
• 51:20
Speaker 3: again from the corporate world. Company's turnery attorneys said, basically,
• 51:24
Speaker 3: everything Trump has initiated the executive order is illegal and
• 51:28
Speaker 3: cannot limit federal protection laws via executive order. So get
• 51:32
Speaker 3: into that a little bit later on in the future
• 51:34
Speaker 3: show if we get an opportunity. Thank you all my
• 51:36
Speaker 3: guests on the show today and the senior producer, Ryan Nicholson.
