- 1:46Speaker 2: and hot on Friday with the chance of scattered showers
- 1:48Speaker 2: and storms anytime from High school football Friday night through

- 2:14Speaker 2: things in the news to get to, and your calls
- 2:15Speaker 2: and texts are always welcome. Guaranteed Bank Hotline 304-345-5858. Tony
- 2:19Speaker 2: Vitale or text 304-935-500. I want to welcome you to
- 2:25Speaker 2: the show now. A gentleman by the name of Aaron Patton.
- 2:27Speaker 2: He's a photographer, but much more than just that. He's
- 2:30Speaker 2: a journalist of people, if that makes sense. He's working
- 2:33Speaker 2: on a project called The Americans, a national portrait archive
- 2:36Speaker 2: documenting America one community at a time. And he's here
- 2:40Speaker 2: with us in the JR Construction Studios this morning because
- 2:42Speaker 2: his tour landed him in Charleston. Good morning, sir. Welcome
- 2:46Speaker 2: to the show.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Good morning.
- 2:46Speaker 6: Good to be here.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Thank you for being here. Now, did I get the
- 2:49Speaker 2: setup of everything right?
- 2:50Speaker 6: That sounds great, man. Better than I could say it. Okay.
- 2:52Speaker 2: So tell us about this project. What's the whole idea
- 2:54Speaker 2: behind it?
- 2:55Speaker 6: Yeah, so we're just kind of going all over the country.
- 2:57Speaker 6: All 50 states started about 18 months ago, and we're
- 2:59Speaker 6: just trying to get a picture of what America looks
- 3:01Speaker 6: like right now. So here we are in West Virginia
- 3:03Speaker 6: to see what West Virginia looks like.
- 3:05Speaker 2: So where did the idea come from?
- 3:07Speaker 6: You know, I always have something on the back burner,
- 3:09Speaker 6: and this has been kind of in my mind for
- 3:10Speaker 6: a long time.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Now you just moved it to the front burner.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 3:13Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:13Speaker 6: And then made the crazy idea to drive all over
- 3:15Speaker 6: 50 states, you know, when gas prices are going crazy.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Well, it's not a better time to do it.
- 3:20Speaker 7: Perfect time.
- 3:20Speaker 2: I mean, well, you're experiencing what Americans are experiencing right now.
- 3:23Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 3:24Speaker 2: And whatever all of us are experiencing.
- 3:26Speaker 8: All right.
- 3:26Speaker 2: So you're in Charleston now, and I was looking at
- 3:28Speaker 2: some of the places that you are going or have been.
- 3:31Speaker 2: Jefferson City, Missouri, Louisville, Cincinnati, Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, Nashville.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Why Charleston?
- 3:38Speaker 6: You know, heart of the state, right? Got to hit
- 3:41Speaker 6: the capital cities when we can.
- 3:42Speaker 2: But I mean, I guess why West Virginia? Maybe I
- 3:44Speaker 2: should have put it that way. I mean, well, I mean,
- 3:47Speaker 2: you're doing all 50. That's why.
- 3:48Speaker 6: All 50 states. We're trying to get off the interstates
- 3:51Speaker 6: when we can, but this seemed like a real easy
- 3:54Speaker 6: stop coming in on our loop back around to back
- 3:56Speaker 6: home to Kansas.
- 3:57Speaker 2: All right, so that's where you're from is Kansas. What
- 3:59Speaker 2: part of Kansas?
- 4:00Speaker 6: Wichita, Kansas, middle of everything. People say it's the middle
- 4:02Speaker 6: of nowhere. I say it's the middle of everywhere.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Well, how did you get involved in doing the whole
- 4:07Speaker 2: photography thing and things that you're doing? I mean, was
- 4:10Speaker 2: this a passion of yours when you were younger? How'd
- 4:11Speaker 2: you fall into this whole thing?
- 4:13Speaker 6: Yeah, I've been a photographer professionally for about 19 years now.
- 4:16Speaker 6: Started right after we got married, my wife and I.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Your wife is here, by the way, with us. She's
- 4:20Speaker 2: documenting everything.
- 4:22Speaker 6: Yeah, she's the one that makes radio look pretty.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Okay.
- 4:25Speaker 4: Well, good.
- 4:25Speaker 2: We'll hire full time. I need all the help I
- 4:27Speaker 2: can get. But go ahead.
- 4:28Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 4:28Speaker 6: So it started about two decades ago, right after our wedding,
- 4:33Speaker 6: decided the wedding photography looked like a good thing. We
- 4:36Speaker 6: did about seven weddings, decided that wasn't a good thing.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Okay.
- 4:39Speaker 6: And I became a commercial photographer, been doing that for
- 4:42Speaker 6: magazines and TV shows and things like that all over
- 4:44Speaker 6: the place and decided to do something. With this project
- 4:47Speaker 6: that was my own idea rather than a client's idea,
- 4:50Speaker 6: even though I love my clients.
- 4:52Speaker 7: Okay.
- 4:52Speaker 2: So, and I went through and looked at some of
- 4:53Speaker 2: your work. It's phenomenal, by the way. I don't know
- 4:56Speaker 2: the first thing about photography, but I know what I
- 4:59Speaker 2: see and what I like. How do you choose what
- 5:02Speaker 2: you are going to be documenting?
- 5:04Speaker 6: That's a great question. You know, every time I go
- 5:06Speaker 6: to one of these stops like this, it's a totally
- 5:08Speaker 6: open call. So anybody that shows up is more than
- 5:10Speaker 6: welcome to be photographed. I don't turn anybody away. I
- 5:13Speaker 6: try not to curate the selection too much. Once in
- 5:15Speaker 6: a while, I do try to find like a, you know,
- 5:17Speaker 6: into a rattlesnake roundup in Okinaw, Oklahoma.
- 5:19Speaker 2: A rattlesnake roundup.
- 5:20Speaker 6: Yeah, that was a good time.
- 5:21Speaker 2: If you like rattlesnakes, which I don't, but, you know.
- 5:26Speaker 2: If I was going to spend time with a creature
- 5:28Speaker 2: and you gave me a top 10, they probably wouldn't
- 5:30Speaker 2: come in the top 10, but that's okay.
- 5:31Speaker 6: You know, they seem to like them down there. Or,
- 5:35Speaker 6: you know, we'll go to a rodeo in Mesquite, Texas,
- 5:37Speaker 6: but every place else we go, we try to just
- 5:39Speaker 6: open it up to see what the public brings us
- 5:42Speaker 6: rather than what we... have preconceived in our minds.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Okay, so you're going to be setting up shop, right,
- 5:47Speaker 2: at a central location. Talk about that.
- 5:48Speaker 10: Yes, sir.
- 5:49Speaker 6: We will be at the Kanawha County Public Library on
- 5:51Speaker 6: the fourth floor in their gallery space there this evening
- 5:54Speaker 6: from four to seven, and it is open to anybody
- 5:57Speaker 6: that wants to come by and be a part of
- 5:58Speaker 6: this project.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Okay, so what are, I mean, is there any, I
- 6:01Speaker 2: know it's open to anybody, but is there I mean,
- 6:04Speaker 2: people may be listening right now going, well, that sounds
- 6:05Speaker 2: like a cool project, but I'm nobody. I'm nobody. That's
- 6:09Speaker 2: what you want are quote unquote nobodies. And I mean
- 6:11Speaker 2: that in the best possible way.
- 6:13Speaker 6: A hundred percent. Everybody thinks that I'm not interesting enough
- 6:16Speaker 6: to be a part of that. And I tell people
- 6:18Speaker 6: all the time, I've never met a single normal person
- 6:20Speaker 6: the entire time I've been doing this. So if you're
- 6:23Speaker 6: completely normal, I want to meet you because that would
- 6:25Speaker 6: be new for me.
- 6:26Speaker 2: So what is involved when people come out? I mean,
- 6:29Speaker 2: they say, okay, I'm going to do this. What can
- 6:32Speaker 2: they expect?
- 6:32Speaker 6: Yeah, it is a real simple thing. People don't need
- 6:35Speaker 6: to be too nervous about it. You just come in.
- 6:37Speaker 6: You've got to sign a model release because my lawyer
- 6:39Speaker 6: makes me do that before we put you in a book.
- 6:42Speaker 6: And then once we call you up, it's about three,
- 6:45Speaker 6: four minutes. I just talk to you for a second,
- 6:48Speaker 6: take your portrait, and that's the game. It is pretty simple.
- 6:50Speaker 2: And do you do any kind of a bio with people?
- 6:52Speaker 2: I mean, do you say like Dave– 56 years old,
- 6:56Speaker 2: I mean, you know, radio announcer. I mean, what goes on?
- 6:59Speaker 2: I saw your work, but I want you to explain it.
- 7:00Speaker 6: To other people. So the core of the project, I
- 7:04Speaker 6: don't use names on my own. People sometimes do when
- 7:07Speaker 6: they call into what I call the storyline. That's how
- 7:09Speaker 6: you get your bios. But for everybody I photograph, I
- 7:11Speaker 6: just get simple demographic and who I get, what you do,
- 7:14Speaker 6: where you were born, and where I photographed you. And
- 7:16Speaker 6: with that, I'm kind of creating this map of almost
- 7:19Speaker 6: migration patterns across the country, where people come from, where
- 7:22Speaker 6: I meet them. And it's become this really interesting archive
- 7:25Speaker 6: database we're building. But then I also have a thing
- 7:28Speaker 6: called Storyline where people are welcome to call in and
- 7:30Speaker 6: tell their story in their words. Because, you know, a
- 7:33Speaker 6: portrait of somebody is kind of my interpretation of them.
- 7:35Speaker 6: So I want to give them the chance to give
- 7:36Speaker 6: their interpretation to them back.
- 7:38Speaker 2: And we want, and again, let me ask this of
- 7:42Speaker 2: you so people can go see it. And then I'll
- 7:44Speaker 2: follow up with a question. Where can people see what
- 7:45Speaker 2: you've done? Because I found it easily on social media.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Do you have a website? What's the best way to find?
- 7:50Speaker 6: For sure, theamericansproject.com, Instagram at The Americans Project. If you
- 7:54Speaker 6: just type in The Americans Project, you're going to find me.
- 7:57Speaker 7: Okay.
- 7:57Speaker 2: And so the pictures, the photographs that I saw when
- 8:00Speaker 2: I was doing some research on this earlier, we don't
- 8:03Speaker 2: want people to think that you're coming out like wedding pictures,
- 8:06Speaker 2: which you did, or senior portraits, or glamour shots, if
- 8:09Speaker 2: you don't know to remember what glamour shots are. This
- 8:11Speaker 2: is just people just being themselves.
- 8:14Speaker 11: 100%.
- 8:15Speaker 6: I call it like a Almost like if I just
- 8:19Speaker 6: grabbed you in the middle of your work day and said, hey,
- 8:21Speaker 6: come over here and stand for five seconds. That's what
- 8:23Speaker 6: I want these to look like. I don't want them
- 8:25Speaker 6: to look too posed or too pretty. I just want
- 8:28Speaker 6: a good, honest look at who we are right now.
- 8:30Speaker 2: And who are we as Americans? There's the loaded question
- 8:33Speaker 2: right there, but who are we as Americans right now,
- 8:35Speaker 2: in your opinion?
- 8:35Speaker 6: You know, I've spent so far 18 months trying to
- 8:38Speaker 6: answer that question, and all I've come up with are
- 8:40Speaker 6: more questions. And I kind of like it that way.
- 8:43Speaker 6: I don't want to answer the question. I want to
- 8:45Speaker 6: kind of put the archive out there and let people
- 8:47Speaker 6: figure that out for themselves.
- 8:49Speaker 2: And, you know, America is a very, and this is
- 8:52Speaker 2: going to be the most, the biggest understatement of the year,
- 8:55Speaker 2: America is a very diverse place. And like you said,
- 8:57Speaker 2: you talked about being with rattlesnakes in Oklahoma, is that
- 9:00Speaker 2: where you were?
- 9:01Speaker 7: In Oklahoma, yeah.
- 9:01Speaker 2: And you couldn't get any more different than downtown New
- 9:06Speaker 2: York City in the heart of it all and somewhere
- 9:08Speaker 2: in Montana. I'm just using those as examples, which I'm
- 9:12Speaker 2: sure you've discovered.
- 9:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:13Speaker 6: You know, we are a massive universe all packed into
- 9:17Speaker 6: these 50 states. And everywhere you go, you meet some
- 9:20Speaker 6: people that you're like, I've met this person. You know,
- 9:23Speaker 6: if I'm in Missouri, I've met somebody just like them
- 9:25Speaker 6: in Florida. Or if I'm in Indiana, I've met somebody
- 9:27Speaker 6: just like in Arizona. Or sometimes you get the people like,
- 9:30Speaker 6: you are unique to this location.
- 9:32Speaker 4: You know what I mean?
- 9:33Speaker 6: And so it's just really fascinating. I don't think there
- 9:35Speaker 6: is a single answer to who America is because we
- 9:40Speaker 6: are multitudes.
- 9:41Speaker 2: And I have always said this, and you were talking
- 9:42Speaker 2: with Aaron Patton, I have always said this, that America
- 9:46Speaker 2: is not who's in the White House. America is not
- 9:49Speaker 2: who is the professional, the top football player in America.
- 9:53Speaker 2: It's not the top rock star, the top actor. America
- 9:56Speaker 2: is the guy that works in the factory. This is
- 9:58Speaker 2: my opinion. You may not agree. America is the guy
- 10:00Speaker 2: that works in the factory. America is the lady that's
- 10:03Speaker 2: waiting tables. It's the person that's the school teacher that's
- 10:05Speaker 2: in the army, the police officer. That to me is
- 10:08Speaker 2: who America is. Not to get too deep, but that's
- 10:10Speaker 2: who America really, that's who makes up America.
- 10:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 10:13Speaker 6: We get focused on these kind of iconic celebrity types,
- 10:17Speaker 6: but that's such a small percentage of what we are.
- 10:19Speaker 6: And the rest of us down here, we make up
- 10:21Speaker 6: the fabric of the country. Not that I would exclude
- 10:24Speaker 6: a celebrity from the project. I've actually had, since I
- 10:28Speaker 6: don't name names, I don't throw it out there too much,
- 10:30Speaker 6: but I've had Grammy winners. I've had, you know, some,
- 10:34Speaker 6: wild different types of people, but they all get the
- 10:36Speaker 6: same label. You know, that's just musician in the archives.
- 10:38Speaker 2: You never know. I love that. What's been, you talked
- 10:41Speaker 2: about the, again, I keep going back to the rattlesnakes
- 10:43Speaker 2: in Oklahoma, but as far as the people go, what's
- 10:48Speaker 2: been some of the more interesting things that you have seen?
- 10:50Speaker 2: Or maybe the cities that you've gone to. Give me
- 10:52Speaker 2: a couple of things that you've said, well, I wasn't
- 10:54Speaker 2: expecting that.
- 10:55Speaker 6: Well, right off the bat, the fourth person we photographed
- 10:58Speaker 6: for this project when I was first kind of putting
- 11:00Speaker 6: the idea out there in Wichita, Kansas, I got a
- 11:05Speaker 6: from somebody who said their job is trimming the hooves
- 11:07Speaker 6: of mini pigs. And I was like, that's different. Didn't
- 11:10Speaker 6: expect that. But she goes 23 states, has a whole
- 11:13Speaker 6: circuit of clients where she just goes around and she's
- 11:15Speaker 6: a mini pig farrier. And so we ended up going
- 11:18Speaker 6: to her house and she just right there in the
- 11:21Speaker 6: middle of the place, flipped a pig over, started sawing
- 11:23Speaker 6: off a tusk and I photographed the whole thing. It
- 11:26Speaker 6: was a good time.
- 11:26Speaker 2: And I bet if you live to be 300, you'll
- 11:28Speaker 2: never encounter that again.
- 11:30Speaker 6: You know, that's probably a good bet.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Yeah. So how's your time? You got to West Virginia when? Yesterday,
- 11:35Speaker 2: I think?
- 11:35Speaker 12: Yeah, yeah.
- 11:35Speaker 2: You and I were talking on the phone. I think
- 11:37Speaker 2: you were getting into town yesterday. How's your experience in
- 11:40Speaker 2: Charleston been? Everybody being good to you?
- 11:41Speaker 7: It's been a good time.
- 11:42Speaker 2: We're normally very inclusive people as far as welcoming people
- 11:45Speaker 2: in and asking about who's your mom and that kind
- 11:47Speaker 2: of stuff. Probably not going to find yours here, but
- 11:49Speaker 2: I'm just saying. Your experience been good so far?
- 11:51Speaker 1: Definitely.
- 11:52Speaker 6: We went to Tudor's Biscuit House.
- 11:54Speaker 2: I was going to say, you got to go to Tudor's.
- 11:56Speaker 6: Got to check it out. So we went there, had
- 11:57Speaker 6: a good time, hit some of the breweries last night.
- 12:01Speaker 6: Got to check out the local flavor. That's been great.
- 12:03Speaker 2: We got in downtown Charleston specifically, I know we get
- 12:05Speaker 2: some really good breweries downtown. And it's an emerging industry here.
- 12:10Speaker 2: We kind of got in on it late, but we
- 12:12Speaker 2: got several good places downtown. And one thing about West Virginia,
- 12:15Speaker 2: you won't starve to death. And I'm glad to know
- 12:17Speaker 2: you discovered Tudors because that is an institution.
- 12:20Speaker 6: Is that right?
- 12:21Speaker 7: Yeah. Yeah.
- 12:22Speaker 6: We just kind of happened upon it. We were just
- 12:23Speaker 6: walking around near Elk City and it was like, well,
- 12:25Speaker 6: Biscuit House sounds like a great place to check out.
- 12:27Speaker 2: And what'd you have? Do you remember what you had?
- 12:28Speaker 6: Chicken biscuit and biscuits and gravy.
- 12:30Speaker 2: Okay. There you go. Do you have a lot of
- 12:31Speaker 2: biscuits and gravy in Kansas?
- 12:33Speaker 6: Not as many as you'd think. I grew up on them,
- 12:35Speaker 6: but it's not as common as you think.
- 12:37Speaker 11: Okay.
- 12:37Speaker 2: All right. Give us the time that you'll be at
- 12:39Speaker 2: the library again this evening.
- 12:40Speaker 6: 4 to 7 p.m. at the Kanawha County Public Library
- 12:43Speaker 6: on the fourth floor.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Right downtown.
- 12:44Speaker 6: Right downtown on Capitol.
- 12:46Speaker 2: And you'll be in the middle of all of it
- 12:47Speaker 2: down there. So it's going to be great weather. So
- 12:49Speaker 2: maybe you can People will kind of wander in there
- 12:51Speaker 2: this evening. Well, Aaron, it was fascinating to have you
- 12:54Speaker 2: on the show. I appreciate you reaching out to us
- 12:57Speaker 2: through a mutual friend, I think, is who I got
- 12:59Speaker 2: the information from. Big shout out to Justin Williams.
- 13:02Speaker 6: Thank you, Justin.
- 13:02Speaker 2: My buddy over at Valley Park and Hurricane that set
- 13:05Speaker 2: this up. Best of luck to you and your wife.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Great to meet you as well. And I hope you
- 13:09Speaker 2: enjoy West Virginia while you're here.
- 13:11Speaker 6: Thanks so much. I appreciate it. I hope to see
- 13:12Speaker 6: a lot of people there tonight.

- 16:13Speaker 2: of Charles. I saw that last night. That's just a
- 16:17Speaker 2: bizarre story. It's been all the talk around the region
- 16:21Speaker 2: over the past few days. A person from our area
- 16:23Speaker 2: goes on Wheel of Fortune the other night, wins big.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Her name is Autumn Martin, and she joins us this
- 16:27Speaker 2: morning via the Guarantee Bank hotline. Autumn, good morning, and
- 16:30Speaker 2: welcome to the show. Hi.
- 16:32Speaker 11: Hello. Thank you for having me.
- 16:34Speaker 2: Thank you for being here. So tell us how you
- 16:36Speaker 2: ended up going on Wheel of Fortune, and why did
- 16:38Speaker 2: you want to go on it in the first place?
- 16:41Speaker 11: Uh, so I wanted to go on it because it
- 16:44Speaker 11: has been my favorite show for a very long time. Um,
- 16:49Speaker 11: anybody that knows me knows that I don't really watch TV.
- 16:52Speaker 11: I'm not really a Netflix girl. I don't really, I
- 16:55Speaker 11: just don't, I don't, I don't really watch TV, but
- 16:58Speaker 11: the one show that I watch every single day is
- 17:01Speaker 11: Will of Fortune from seven to seven 30. I am
- 17:03Speaker 11: locked into that show and it's just, it's, it's always
- 17:07Speaker 11: been my favorite. So that's, that's why I wanted to
- 17:10Speaker 11: go on.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Take us through the process of how someone from here
- 17:14Speaker 2: ends up out there on Wheel of Fortune.
- 17:17Speaker 11: So it's kind of crazy. I actually applied in December
- 17:21Speaker 11: of 2024. And I had Zoom auditions in January of 2025.
- 17:28Speaker 11: And they told me, if you don't hear back from
- 17:30Speaker 11: us within a year, it means that you did not
- 17:32Speaker 11: get selected for this season, but you can always reapply
- 17:35Speaker 11: after a year. So I'd never heard anything back within
- 17:40Speaker 11: a year. And so I thought I just didn't get selected.
- 17:42Speaker 11: And And my grandmother was ill. And so I told myself,
- 17:46Speaker 11: I'll just wait until, you know, after things settle down
- 17:49Speaker 11: with my grandma and then I'll reapply. Well, my grandmother
- 17:52Speaker 11: passed away on July 17th. And on July 20th, I
- 17:55Speaker 11: got an email saying that I was selected to be
- 17:58Speaker 11: a contestant on the Wheel of Fortune.
- 18:00Speaker 2: And your grandmother, not to get too personal here, but
- 18:03Speaker 2: I have, but I was trying to, you know, get
- 18:06Speaker 2: in contact with you. I noticed your grandmother was a very,
- 18:08Speaker 2: very big part of your life. It seems in looking
- 18:09Speaker 2: at the photographs I saw.
- 18:12Speaker 11: Yes, she was. She was definitely my person. And so
- 18:16Speaker 11: it was it was a very hard loss. And my
- 18:20Speaker 11: birthday was actually the day before we taped Will of
- 18:23Speaker 11: Fortune on August 18th. And on July 20th, you know,
- 18:27Speaker 11: that was just a few days after she had passed.
- 18:29Speaker 11: I was very emotional and I was having a rough
- 18:32Speaker 11: day and I was just like, oh, this is going
- 18:34Speaker 11: to be the worst birthday ever. It's my first birthday
- 18:37Speaker 11: without my mama. And I had actually torn my Achilles
- 18:41Speaker 11: on June 24th. So I also wasn't walking at the time.
- 18:44Speaker 11: And I was just, you know, kind of throwing a
- 18:46Speaker 11: pity party for myself. And then that email comes through
- 18:49Speaker 11: and I'm like, oh my gosh, like it's You know,
- 18:52Speaker 11: now I'm going to be flying to L.A. on my
- 18:54Speaker 11: birthday and then recording my dream show on the next day.
- 18:59Speaker 11: So it was just kind of it was kind of crazy.
- 19:02Speaker 2: Take us through the behind the scenes. I mean, how
- 19:05Speaker 2: does the whole thing work from, you know, from the camera?
- 19:08Speaker 2: We only see the 22 minute or so product that's after,
- 19:12Speaker 2: you know, the commercials. I mean, before the commercials, I
- 19:14Speaker 2: should say. So the show's like 22 minutes long or
- 19:16Speaker 2: something like that. Take us through what it's like, you know,
- 19:19Speaker 2: from the time you walk into the studio. I mean,
- 19:21Speaker 2: how do they greet you? What exactly goes on there?
- 19:25Speaker 11: So we had to be at the studio at 6.30 a.m.
- 19:30Speaker 11: la time which is 3 30 a.m west virginia time
- 19:34Speaker 11: um and so that was that was definitely uh fun
- 19:39Speaker 11: um or wait no i think i got that opposite
- 19:41Speaker 11: no that's 9 30 a.m okay.
- 19:43Speaker 2: Okay uh you're on a roll i wasn't going to
- 19:45Speaker 2: correct you but go ahead.
- 19:46Speaker 11: Yeah yeah i was like wait a second but yes
- 19:48Speaker 11: we had to be there at 6 38 L.A. time. But
- 19:53Speaker 11: that's still kind of early for me.
- 19:54Speaker 2: Sure, okay.
- 19:56Speaker 11: And we had to basically sit in this room and
- 20:00Speaker 11: for a very long time and we had to speak
- 20:03Speaker 11: to the legal team and they had to go over
- 20:05Speaker 11: all the rules with us and we had to sign
- 20:08Speaker 11: a bunch of paperwork and all that. And we were
- 20:10Speaker 11: in this room for a couple of hours and you're
- 20:13Speaker 11: in the room with all the contestants and there's hair
- 20:16Speaker 11: and makeup and they're kind of sending us one by
- 20:19Speaker 11: one to hair and makeup while the rest of us
- 20:21Speaker 11: are doing paperwork. But I will say they run it
- 20:26Speaker 11: very well to where you're not like, oh, gosh, this
- 20:29Speaker 11: is boring. You know, I'm falling asleep. And every single
- 20:34Speaker 11: person that I encountered on the Wheel of Fortune staff
- 20:38Speaker 11: was so nice, so warm and welcoming, so friendly. Yeah,
- 20:43Speaker 11: it was it was great. And they take us to
- 20:48Speaker 11: the studio before we even go to tape. And we
- 20:53Speaker 11: practice every single person practices. We practice our bios, like
- 20:58Speaker 11: what we're going to talk to Ryan about. We practice
- 21:01Speaker 11: spinning the wheel. We practice calling letters. We practice toss-ups.
- 21:05Speaker 11: So they make sure that you're prepared before you take
- 21:08Speaker 11: the stage.
- 21:08Speaker 2: You know, I've always been interested as a geek in
- 21:11Speaker 2: this sort of thing when it comes to what the
- 21:12Speaker 2: studios are actually like, because I've talked to people that
- 21:15Speaker 2: have gone on, let's say, talk shows, for example, just
- 21:18Speaker 2: as an audience member. And they'll say, well, the studio
- 21:20Speaker 2: was much bigger on television than I expected. It was
- 21:23Speaker 2: no more than a theater when I got there. And
- 21:25Speaker 2: other people said, my God, it was almost like in
- 21:28Speaker 2: some sort of a dome or something. Was the studio,
- 21:31Speaker 2: when you physically walked in, was it what you thought
- 21:33Speaker 2: it would be? Was it not what you thought it
- 21:35Speaker 2: would be?
- 21:37Speaker 11: It was very small. So it was actually much smaller
- 21:40Speaker 11: than I think it looks on camera. When you're watching
- 21:45Speaker 11: on TV, it kind of looks pretty big, but it's
- 21:49Speaker 11: actually very small. I would say it's about as big
- 21:52Speaker 11: as a... middle school or high school basketball gyms, to
- 21:56Speaker 11: be honest. All right.
- 21:58Speaker 2: And approximately how many people are in the audience watching?
- 22:01Speaker 2: I mean, just approximately, maybe is it a full house
- 22:03Speaker 2: or is it just, you know, a hundred people? I mean,
- 22:05Speaker 2: how many people are actually watching?
- 22:07Speaker 11: So the audience is actually, it's a very small area.
- 22:13Speaker 11: It's just kind of like up in the bleachers. Like
- 22:16Speaker 11: they're not actually, you know, down low with us. They're
- 22:18Speaker 11: up in kind of in bleachers and rafters. And You
- 22:23Speaker 11: would kind of split the audience up into about three groups.
- 22:25Speaker 11: One side is the contestants that are competing that day
- 22:29Speaker 11: because there's 20 people that are there because they taped
- 22:31Speaker 11: six shows.
- 22:31Speaker 2: That's what I was going to ask you. It's going
- 22:33Speaker 2: to be my next question. They taped several in one day, right?
- 22:35Speaker 11: Yeah, six in one day. So there were 18 of
- 22:38Speaker 11: us as contestants and two alternates there. And so that's
- 22:40Speaker 11: kind of one side of the audience. And then there's
- 22:43Speaker 11: the live audience that if you were just in L.A.
- 22:45Speaker 11: and you just wanted to just go watch Wheel of Fortune,
- 22:47Speaker 11: that's like the middle section of the audience. And then
- 22:51Speaker 11: the far right side, if you're facing the audience, is
- 22:55Speaker 11: the friends and family of all the contestants.
- 22:57Speaker 2: Okay.
- 22:58Speaker 8: All right.
- 22:59Speaker 2: So they have an alternate. I mean, is that like
- 23:01Speaker 2: when somebody has a panic attack and just drops? I mean,
- 23:04Speaker 2: what's the deal with the alternate?
- 23:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:07Speaker 11: Basically, they told us there were actually supposed to be
- 23:09Speaker 11: three alternates, but only two showed up. They always have
- 23:14Speaker 11: alternates in case somebody gets sick or somebody chickens out
- 23:19Speaker 11: or anything. They've got to have people ready to go
- 23:23Speaker 11: to step in. I thought it was kind of cool.
- 23:25Speaker 11: The alternates actually get paid to be there regardless. Oh, okay. And, yeah,
- 23:31Speaker 11: typically the alternates are, like, in the L.A.
- 23:33Speaker 4: Area.
- 23:34Speaker 2: Okay.
- 23:34Speaker 11: So, you know, they didn't have to pay anything to
- 23:36Speaker 11: be there.
- 23:37Speaker 2: That's a good living if you can do it just
- 23:38Speaker 2: to go and sit in a studio. So as far as, like,
- 23:43Speaker 2: the way that they record it, is it, like, all
- 23:45Speaker 2: in real time? Do they stop it at any point?
- 23:48Speaker 2: I mean, or is it just okay as if it
- 23:50Speaker 2: were live? You know, I mean, is that the way
- 23:52Speaker 2: it's done?
- 23:54Speaker 11: No. So we do stop after every puzzle ends. Once
- 24:00Speaker 11: they're solved, we stop, take a little break. They, you know,
- 24:05Speaker 11: do what they need to do to the wheel. They
- 24:07Speaker 11: do hair and makeup to us, you know, get Ryan
- 24:11Speaker 11: and Vanna touched up, and then we go right. It's
- 24:13Speaker 11: like a less than two-minute break.
- 24:17Speaker 2: I mean, it's basically like a commercial break, basically, you know,
- 24:20Speaker 2: for all intents and purposes. I know this is the
- 24:24Speaker 2: question you're probably going to get from most people and
- 24:26Speaker 2: have already, but I'm going to go ahead and throw
- 24:27Speaker 2: it out there. Did you get to meet Ryan and
- 24:29Speaker 2: Vanna and hang out with them at all?
- 24:33Speaker 11: Vanna came out when we were practicing. She came out
- 24:37Speaker 11: and waved to us and wished us good luck. That
- 24:42Speaker 11: was really cute. But I didn't get to really talk
- 24:46Speaker 11: to them aside from on the show. On the actual show,
- 24:52Speaker 11: everything you see me talking to them. And then It
- 24:55Speaker 11: was kind of funny. I was talking to Ryan before
- 24:58Speaker 11: my bonus round, and he told me that he went
- 25:01Speaker 11: backstage and actually tried to call Lance Bass that I
- 25:05Speaker 11: had mentioned from NSYNC because he was going to have
- 25:08Speaker 11: Lance talk to me before the bonus round. But Lance
- 25:12Speaker 11: was busy and was not able to.
- 25:13Speaker 2: Oh, well, you know. Yeah. So what is your fascination,
- 25:17Speaker 2: if you don't mind me asking, with Lance Bass? Of course,
- 25:18Speaker 2: he was with NSYNC, as you said. Is it just
- 25:21Speaker 2: somebody that you like?
- 25:23Speaker 11: Yes. So he, it's kind of funny, he was my
- 25:26Speaker 11: literal first crush because I was eight years old when NSYNC,
- 25:31Speaker 11: you know, came to be. And so I was just
- 25:34Speaker 11: infatuated with Lance. I would always cut him out of
- 25:37Speaker 11: all the group photos and tape him to my wall
- 25:40Speaker 11: right beside of Britney Spears.
- 25:41Speaker 2: Oh, of course.
- 25:42Speaker 11: And, you know, he was just my favorite. And so,
- 25:44Speaker 11: you know, obviously I am definitely not his type.
- 25:49Speaker 2: That's one way to put it.
- 25:50Speaker 11: Yeah. Yeah. And you know, he's very happily married. So
- 25:53Speaker 11: I just think that we could be best friends and
- 25:56Speaker 11: I just adore him. And so, you know, I'm still
- 25:59Speaker 11: waiting to hear from him, but I do have my
- 26:03Speaker 11: fingers crossed.
- 26:03Speaker 2: What was your comfort level as far as going through
- 26:06Speaker 2: the game? I mean, for those that didn't see it,
- 26:08Speaker 2: cause I mean, it's a highly rated show and not
- 26:10Speaker 2: everybody was watching it, but you know, maybe they missed it. Talk,
- 26:13Speaker 2: talk about your, your, your part in the game, your
- 26:15Speaker 2: comfort level, uh, easy, hard, what you thought it would be.
- 26:20Speaker 2: Take us through that.
- 26:23Speaker 11: So I literally, like I said, I watch Wheel of
- 26:25Speaker 11: Fortune every day and I try to say the puzzles.
- 26:29Speaker 11: Like I try to, you know, get them before the
- 26:31Speaker 11: contestants on the show and I'm pretty good at it.
- 26:34Speaker 11: You know, I'm saying the puzzles and then, you know,
- 26:37Speaker 11: three minutes later they're solving them. I've always just been
- 26:40Speaker 11: good at, you know, the processing part and plugging letters
- 26:43Speaker 11: in and Um, and what's crazy is, you know, I
- 26:47Speaker 11: was episode one of the day and I didn't, I
- 26:50Speaker 11: didn't want to be episode one. I was hoping for
- 26:53Speaker 11: episode two or three. Um, I made a friend at
- 26:56Speaker 11: the show. Uh, his name's David. He's actually going to
- 26:58Speaker 11: be on tonight. So everyone should watch my friend David tonight. Um,
- 27:02Speaker 11: but me and David were sitting beside of each other
- 27:04Speaker 11: and we were like, oh, I hope we're episodes two
- 27:06Speaker 11: or three. That way, you know, we can watch episode
- 27:09Speaker 11: one to kind of get a feel for it. And then,
- 27:11Speaker 11: you know, do our episode and then be done for
- 27:13Speaker 11: the day. Well, David got episode three and I got
- 27:15Speaker 11: episode one. And so, you know, I was episode one.
- 27:19Speaker 11: So we were in hair and makeup and I was
- 27:22Speaker 11: a little nervous at the time. And then I go
- 27:25Speaker 11: to take the stage and a Taylor Swift song is playing.
- 27:28Speaker 11: And it's like, I just felt all of my nerves
- 27:31Speaker 11: leave my body. And I was just locked in. I
- 27:34Speaker 11: was like, I came here to compete. And my goal
- 27:39Speaker 11: was to make it. to the bonus round.
- 27:42Speaker 2: I mean, they need to recognize that you're from West Virginia.
- 27:44Speaker 2: And if you don't win, you'll just start kicking somebody's
- 27:47Speaker 2: butt because that's what we do in West Virginia, right?
- 27:49Speaker 2: I mean, I'll turn this wheel over right now.
- 27:52Speaker 11: Yeah, I'm going to flip the 2,400-pound wheel because I'm
- 27:58Speaker 11: the most competitive person in the world. But what was
- 28:01Speaker 11: crazy is You know, I'm also an empath. And so
- 28:05Speaker 11: it pained me that my competitor, Jordan, didn't get to
- 28:09Speaker 11: solve any puzzles and he didn't win any money. Like,
- 28:11Speaker 11: it absolutely pained me. I wanted everybody to win.
- 28:14Speaker 4: Right.
- 28:14Speaker 11: Yeah. You know, in a perfect world, Jordan would have
- 28:18Speaker 11: got at least one of the toss ups that would
- 28:19Speaker 11: have made me happy.
- 28:20Speaker 2: So what did you end up winning on the show?
- 28:22Speaker 2: Because you won it that day. So what did you win?
- 28:25Speaker 11: I won a trip to Thailand, which is crazy. And
- 28:30Speaker 11: then I won, I think it was like.
- 28:35Speaker 11: I won $ 26, 000 in cash and prizes, but that included
- 28:40Speaker 11: the $ 10, 000 trip to Thailand. So I won around $ 16, 000
- 28:43Speaker 11: in cash before the bonus round, and then I won $ 40, 000
- 28:47Speaker 11: in the bonus round.
- 28:49Speaker 2: Now, I know it's just like a one-night thing, but
- 28:52Speaker 2: do they have like a tournament of champions? Will you
- 28:54Speaker 2: be invited back at some point? Do they do that
- 28:56Speaker 2: with that show?
- 28:57Speaker 11: So the only thing that they have had in the
- 29:00Speaker 11: past is they've had fan favorites come back and you
- 29:05Speaker 11: come back in teams. So like if a mother and
- 29:09Speaker 11: a daughter both won or like, you know, a husband
- 29:12Speaker 11: and a wife both won or something like that. like
- 29:15Speaker 11: you can come back. But I actually have a pretty
- 29:18Speaker 11: crazy story. My best friend, like through childhood, through high school,
- 29:24Speaker 11: through college, everything, he won in 2019. And he actually
- 29:27Speaker 11: trained me for this. And we both won $ 66, 000. We
- 29:29Speaker 11: both called the same letters in the bonus round. We
- 29:32Speaker 11: both had white vehicles that we could have won. Um,
- 29:43Speaker 11: we also both were losing, um, going into the prize
- 29:47Speaker 11: puzzle round, um, and ended up winning. And this is
- 29:52Speaker 11: the also crazy part. His grandmother passed away before his
- 29:55Speaker 11: episode aired. Just, just like mine. Wow. So Yeah, we
- 30:00Speaker 11: were looking back on that, and we were like, oh,
- 30:02Speaker 11: my goodness, like so many parallels.
- 30:04Speaker 2: It was crazy. What was your puzzle? What was the
- 30:08Speaker 2: word you had to solve there, or the phrase at
- 30:09Speaker 2: the end?
- 30:10Speaker 11: It was, what are you doing? And my puzzle was beaming. Beaming.
- 30:16Speaker 2: Okay. I mean, that seems a little different, but I mean. Yeah. Okay.
- 30:23Speaker 2: All right. So overall, great experience for you, Autumn? I mean, obviously,
- 30:27Speaker 2: it sounds like it was.
- 30:28Speaker 7: Oh, yes.
- 30:28Speaker 11: I mean, from start to finish, you know, I was
- 30:31Speaker 11: in a boot because I had torn my Achilles and
- 30:34Speaker 11: they were so accommodating of my injury. You know, I
- 30:38Speaker 11: thought I was going to go out there and they
- 30:39Speaker 11: were like, oh, this girl's hurt, you know. Like, we
- 30:43Speaker 11: wish that we had a player that wasn't hurt, but
- 30:45Speaker 11: it was the exact opposite. They were so kind, so accommodating.
- 30:49Speaker 11: You know, they made me feel so comfortable. And it
- 30:52Speaker 11: was just it was great from start to finish. And
- 30:55Speaker 11: you never know what you're going to get out in Hollywood,
- 30:57Speaker 11: you know. So I was really thankful that my favorite
- 31:00Speaker 11: show left me with such a great experience.
- 31:04Speaker 2: Well, that's awesome. I mean, it was all the talk,
- 31:06Speaker 2: you know, that you were going on this show. You
- 31:08Speaker 2: have quite a following on social media anyway, and it
- 31:10Speaker 2: was all the talk. Everybody was, and my phone was
- 31:12Speaker 2: blowing up, you know, people saying, hey, you got to have,
- 31:15Speaker 2: you got to have Autumn on, you got to have
- 31:17Speaker 2: this girl on. And so I appreciate you. And I
- 31:20Speaker 2: didn't really, I'll be honest with you. I didn't have
- 31:22Speaker 2: a lot of, because I've done things similar to this
- 31:24Speaker 2: in the past. And sometimes it's a process, man, because
- 31:27Speaker 2: I can't just, I didn't know you, so I can't
- 31:29Speaker 2: just call you up and There's a process anyway that
- 31:31Speaker 2: you have to go through the producers of the show
- 31:34Speaker 2: so that they will allow you to do it. But
- 31:36Speaker 2: the people out there were cool. I mean, literally, you
- 31:38Speaker 2: sent me the email address. I sent it to them.
- 31:42Speaker 2: And in like five minutes, they said, sure, just no
- 31:44Speaker 2: spoiler alerts. That's all they said was just no spoiler.
- 31:47Speaker 2: But I mean, it's after the fact. I don't know
- 31:48Speaker 2: what I can spoil, you know, other than your undying
- 31:51Speaker 2: love for Lance Bass. I don't know. And I don't
- 31:54Speaker 2: know what else I could spoil. Well, it was great
- 31:57Speaker 2: to have you on the show, and I know you're
- 31:58Speaker 2: busy today. You took time out to be here with us.
- 32:01Speaker 2: Thanks a lot. You made West Virginia very proud. And
- 32:03Speaker 2: enjoy your winnings. Enjoy that trip to Thailand. Spoiler alert here, though,
- 32:07Speaker 2: I'm going to tell you, I don't think they have
- 32:09Speaker 2: a Tudor's Biscuit World there, just so you know.
- 32:11Speaker 11: Oh, that's diabolical because I eat Tudor's Biscuits pretty much
- 32:16Speaker 11: every day, so that's going to be rough for me.
- 32:18Speaker 11: All right.
- 32:19Speaker 2: Well, Autumn, congratulations. Thank you for being on the show.
- 32:21Speaker 2: We'll talk soon.
- 32:22Speaker 7: Thanks a lot.
- 32:23Speaker 11: Thank you so much.
- 32:25Speaker 2: Autumn Martin, again, she was on Wheel of Fortune and
- 32:28Speaker 2: won her some cash and won a trip to Thailand. Unfortunately,
- 32:32Speaker 2: did not get to meet Lance Bass, and she did
- 32:33Speaker 2: not also get to meet Ryan Seacrest, apparently. So there
- 32:36Speaker 2: you go. Appreciate her being here. 20 minutes away from 10,

- 33:46Speaker 13: During the inspection of our old unit, their technician discovered
- 33:49Speaker 13: a crack in the heat exchanger that was slowly leaking
- 33:52Speaker 13: carbon monoxide into our home. From that moment on, we

- 34:23Speaker 14: initiatives to protect children or legislation to help local small

- 34:31Speaker 2: I'm J.B.
- 34:31Speaker 14: Akers, and I will be honored to again have your

- 35:59Speaker 2: happy birthday to you. Coming up later today, Metro News
- 36:02Speaker 2: Midday with Amanda Barron and me, powered by Selangor Law.
- 36:05Speaker 2: It's Wednesday. Mindy, we're going to introduce you to this
- 36:07Speaker 2: week's wonderful West Virginian. Jeff Jenkins has the news. TJ
- 36:10Speaker 2: Meadows is here with commentary. And you can read his
- 36:12Speaker 2: commentary online. over at the website. If you didn't hear
- 36:16Speaker 2: it on air this morning, TJ asked a very good question.
- 36:21Speaker 2: And that is, we all hear what West Virginians are against.
- 36:26Speaker 2: We don't want data centers. We don't want nuclear. We
- 36:29Speaker 2: don't want coal. We don't want solar. We don't want windmills. Well,
- 36:32Speaker 2: what exactly do we want? And as TJ points out,
- 36:37Speaker 2: you can't be against everything if you hope to grow.
- 36:41Speaker 2: Great commentary from Meadows. He'll join us to talk about
- 36:43Speaker 2: it on the show today. I would urge you to
- 36:45Speaker 2: go to the website and read it if you haven't
- 36:47Speaker 2: heard it already or didn't read it already this morning
- 36:49Speaker 2: or hear it on the air. Last night, the Putnam
- 36:52Speaker 2: County Commission met and adopted a resolution as it comes
- 36:55Speaker 2: to data centers. Of course, the big one there is
- 36:57Speaker 2: the Google Data Center plan for Buffalo. Putnam County Commission
- 37:00Speaker 2: President Andy Skidmore is going to join us on the
- 37:02Speaker 2: show to talk about it again today. We are talking
- 37:05Speaker 2: about SNAP benefits and possible reductions of such, Seth. DeStefano,
- 37:10Speaker 2: who is the Senior Policy Outreach Director for the West
- 37:12Speaker 2: Virginia Center on Budget and Policy, is going to join us.
- 37:15Speaker 2: Fred Persinger here to kick off your high school football
- 37:17Speaker 2: week as he and Joe Bricado and the team will
- 37:18Speaker 2: have high school sports line tonight. Fred will be stopping
- 37:21Speaker 2: by and more on Metro News Midday presented by Salango Law.
- 37:24Speaker 2: Programming notes, I will not be here tomorrow or Friday.
- 37:28Speaker 2: Dale Cooper is in for me, I think, the next
- 37:31Speaker 2: couple days. I will be somewhere on a beach, somewhere
- 37:34Speaker 2: with a drink in my hand. Can't be too far
- 37:37Speaker 2: because I'm only off two days. Tomorrow and Friday, I
- 37:40Speaker 2: will be back, though, on Monday. The Dave Allen Show
- 37:43Speaker 2: and 580 Live is brought to you in part by
- 37:45Speaker 2: the all-new Generations Ford of Hurricane. Visit generationsford.com. Back to
- 37:49Speaker 2: Putnam County for just a moment. And Jack Carlson has
- 37:52Speaker 2: a story posted about it at wvmetronews.com. Last night, the
- 37:56Speaker 2: Putnam County Commission officially adopted a resolution on proposed data centers. Now,
- 38:03Speaker 2: the resolution came about after the group Putnam United had
- 38:07Speaker 2: presented a resolution of their own last month to the
- 38:10Speaker 2: commission that would ask data centers to be evaluated on
- 38:14Speaker 2: more than just the money aspect of it, so to speak.
- 38:17Speaker 2: So what the commission's resolution says, and it actually In
- 38:22Speaker 2: my opinion, reading it this morning goes above and beyond
- 38:25Speaker 2: even what House Bill 2014 that was passed does. Some
- 38:30Speaker 2: of the points in the resolution, and again, you can
- 38:32Speaker 2: read the entire thing for yourself as part of Jack's story, wvmetronews.com.
- 38:36Speaker 2: Data centers will pay their own way by funding 100%
- 38:40Speaker 2: of the water, the sewer, the power upgrades, et cetera,
- 38:45Speaker 2: as needed. In other words, the taxpayers won't be on
- 38:49Speaker 2: the hook for them. There will be extra protections for water,
- 38:53Speaker 2: even more, this is important, even more than what state
- 38:57Speaker 2: and federal regulations call for. Some sound dampening enclosures will
- 39:04Speaker 2: be required. And again, it's a whole list of things,
- 39:06Speaker 2: not going to read the entire thing, but you can
- 39:08Speaker 2: go to jackstorywvmetronews.com and read it for yourself. Now, the
- 39:12Speaker 2: commission says Google, which is planning the big data center there,
- 39:15Speaker 2: is all on board so far with all of this.
- 39:20Speaker 2: Of course, Google, if you recall, pretty much opened the
- 39:23Speaker 2: checkbook already in Putnam County, particularly Buffalo, providing free entry
- 39:28Speaker 2: to athletic events for students at Buffalo Highlands. High School,
- 39:30Speaker 2: a bunch of other stuff. So it looks like welcome
- 39:34Speaker 2: to Putnam County for the Google Data Center. The Dave
- 39:37Speaker 2: Allen Show on 580 Live is brought to you in
- 39:39Speaker 2: part by Morgan & Morgan, America's largest injury law firm.
- 39:42Speaker 2: If you're injured, visit ForThePeople.com. Text said, add legal recreational
- 39:48Speaker 2: cannabis to the list of things West Virginia doesn't want. Well,
- 39:51Speaker 2: that's a fair point. That's a fair, fair point. And look,
- 39:55Speaker 2: going along with what TJ said, and he's going to
- 39:57Speaker 2: join me a little bit later on the show, and
- 39:58Speaker 2: as I said, he'll join us on midday today as well.
- 40:02Speaker 2: That's what we hear a lot of in West Virginia.
- 40:05Speaker 2: And I am all about citizens getting involved. If you're
- 40:07Speaker 2: concerned about what's coming to your community, what's going on
- 40:09Speaker 2: in your community, you have every right to speak out.
- 40:12Speaker 2: You have every right, if you don't like what's going on,
- 40:14Speaker 2: with your school system. You have every right to go
- 40:18Speaker 2: to the Board of Education. You have every right to
- 40:19Speaker 2: go to county commissions, city councils, whatever the case may be.
- 40:23Speaker 2: But it seems like all we hear is people that are,
- 40:26Speaker 2: as we would say in southern West Virginia, against it.
- 40:29Speaker 2: We're against it. Well, at some point, if you want
- 40:33Speaker 2: this state to grow, we are going to have to
- 40:35Speaker 2: be for some of this stuff. I'm sorry. not trying
- 40:39Speaker 2: to be the bad guy here, but we can't constantly say,
- 40:42Speaker 2: we don't want that here, we don't want that here,
- 40:45Speaker 2: while the state continues to suffer because of people saying
- 40:51Speaker 2: we don't want things here. Again, I'm not saying you
- 40:53Speaker 2: open up the floodgates and you invite every Tom, Dick,
- 40:56Speaker 2: and Harry company to come in and do the stuff.
- 40:58Speaker 2: I'm just saying we've got to have some open conversations.
- 41:01Speaker 2: And I know some of these groups have. I mentioned
- 41:03Speaker 2: Putnam United, for example. They've actually had, from what I understand,
- 41:07Speaker 2: we'll talk to Commissioner Skidmore, on midday today, they have
- 41:10Speaker 2: actually had some really good back and forth. And I
- 41:12Speaker 2: mean that in the best possible way, discussions with the
- 41:15Speaker 2: County Commission. It's the way things are supposed to work.
- 41:18Speaker 2: And I may, somebody may be listening right now going, well,
- 41:20Speaker 2: that's not what really happened. Just on the surface, what
- 41:23Speaker 2: I am seeing is it looks like that that group
- 41:26Speaker 2: has been working with the County Commission. The County Commission
- 41:28Speaker 2: has been listening to them saying, okay, we understand your concerns.
- 41:31Speaker 2: Let's see what we can do. And that's the way
- 41:33Speaker 2: the whole thing, in my opinion, It's supposed to work.
- 41:36Speaker 2: The Dave Allen Show on 580 Live is brought to
- 41:38Speaker 2: you in part by Pinnacle Consultants, helping to identify environmental
- 41:41Speaker 2: concerns like asbestos, lead, mold, and indoor quality issues. Buildings

- 41:51Speaker 2: your environment because what you don't know can't hurt you.
- 41:54Speaker 2: I do want to mention this about my boys in
- 41:57Speaker 2: the Amos Steel Band. You hear me talking about the
- 41:59Speaker 2: Amos Steel Band all the time. They provide some of
- 42:02Speaker 2: our bumper music that For those outside the business, that
- 42:05Speaker 2: basically means the music we come back from break from.
- 42:07Speaker 2: They provide some of it here. And I told you
- 42:09Speaker 2: yesterday they had a big show coming up. And for
- 42:10Speaker 2: the life of me, because it's somewhere in this adult
- 42:13Speaker 2: brain of mine or somewhere on my phone with 85,000
- 42:16Speaker 2: pictures on it, I couldn't come up with it right away.
- 42:19Speaker 2: They are going to be playing at TK's Pizza and
- 42:21Speaker 2: Sports Bar in Elk View. It's coming Friday night at
- 42:24Speaker 2: 8 o'clock. So go see my boys. If you've never
- 42:27Speaker 2: seen them in concert, you will not be sorry. This
- 42:29Speaker 2: is the guy's. If you know, every Christmas, right around
- 42:32Speaker 2: Christmas Eve, I do a special show here called the

- 42:38Speaker 2: Steel Band is the guys that come in the studio
- 42:40Speaker 2: here with us. But they're so much more than just that.

- 42:44Speaker 2: little southern rock soul thrown in there. They fit the bill.
- 42:49Speaker 2: And big, big fans of these guys, great friends with
- 42:51Speaker 2: them as well. They're going to be playing at TK's

- 46:07Speaker 2: Text says, Google has the money to placate Putnam County
- 46:11Speaker 2: residents until they no longer need to placate Putnam County residents.
- 46:15Speaker 2: Then it's tough blank for Putnam County residents after that. Well,
- 46:18Speaker 2: I mean, I've only lived in Putnam County since 2014.
- 46:24Speaker 2: But when we had the anniversary last week of the
- 46:27Speaker 2: Toyota facility in Putnam County, I can tell you that
- 46:30Speaker 2: I followed in the news closely when, again, years ago,
- 46:35Speaker 2: when it was first being proposed that we're going to
- 46:36Speaker 2: bring this Toyota facility to Putnam County. I did not
- 46:40Speaker 2: move there personally, my wife and I, until 2014. But
- 46:44Speaker 2: I can tell you that you could not ask for
- 46:47Speaker 2: a better partner in Putnam County than what Toyota has been. Now,
- 46:51Speaker 2: I'm not saying that Google is going to be that.
- 46:53Speaker 2: I'm not saying that any other company is or isn't
- 46:54Speaker 2: going to be that. I don't know. But I will
- 46:56Speaker 2: tell you, that there were a lot of people and
- 46:59Speaker 2: again i wasn't living there i was just following the
- 47:01Speaker 2: news coverage that when when toyota came to putnam county
- 47:04Speaker 2: there were a lot of people that were very very
- 47:05Speaker 2: skeptical about it and i can tell you as somebody
- 47:08Speaker 2: who lives there somebody who's been there you know since
- 47:11Speaker 2: 2014 they're the real deal as far as giving back
- 47:15Speaker 2: to the community being involved in everything in the community
- 47:17Speaker 2: so hopefully google time will tell but hopefully google will
- 47:22Speaker 2: follow that model Text, just wanted to remind people your
- 47:26Speaker 2: Medicare is going up this month. Thank you, Capito, says
- 47:30Speaker 2: a texter. West Virginia Watch is out with a story
- 47:33Speaker 2: today that the West Virginia drug czar has resigned. TalkLineBoy
- 47:36Speaker 2: is going to get into this, I think, a little
- 47:37Speaker 2: bit further. But Dr. Stephen Lloyd has resigned. And the
- 47:41Speaker 2: story to me is just kind of downright weird. Reported
- 47:46Speaker 2: by Amelia Nicely or Lori Kersey of West Virginia Watch.
- 47:48Speaker 2: Not weird from their reporting. Just the whole circumstances around it.
- 47:51Speaker 11: Dr.
- 47:51Speaker 12: Lloyd resigned.
- 47:52Speaker 2: Was appointed by then-Governor Justice to that role in August
- 47:56Speaker 2: of 2024. He was the eighth person in that spot,
- 47:59Speaker 2: the eighth person since 2017. And before anybody thinks I'm
- 48:02Speaker 2: piling on Patrick Morrissey, he wasn't in office as far
- 48:07Speaker 2: as the governor goes, 2017.
- 48:09Speaker 1: Dr.
- 48:09Speaker 2: Lloyd says he's heartbroken. That was his quote, heartbroken about leaving.
- 48:14Speaker 2: I mean, if he resigned, why would he be heartbroken?
- 48:19Speaker 2: He also said he did not speak with the governor
- 48:24Speaker 2: other than just a simple text message while he was
- 48:28Speaker 2: in that role. Now, I don't know whether that's the
- 48:30Speaker 2: truth or not. I'm just saying that's what Dr. Lloyd said.
- 48:33Speaker 2: He did not have any conversations with the governor other
- 48:37Speaker 2: than a simple text message or two. That to me
- 48:39Speaker 2: in and of itself is somewhat troubling. I'm not pointing fingers.
- 48:42Speaker 2: I'm just saying there seems to be some sort of
- 48:44Speaker 2: communication issues going on based on what I have been
- 48:47Speaker 2: told with this administration. I invite you to join me
- 48:50Speaker 2: every Friday morning, 9.06, for the Adopt Me Please Pet
- 48:53Speaker 2: of the Week from the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association, brought to
- 48:55Speaker 2: you by Almost 7 Interiors, family-owned, proudly serving the community
- 48:58Speaker 2: for over 50 years. They specialize in custom blinds, shades, shutters, upholstery,
- 49:03Speaker 2: and beautifully crafted sewn goods. Homes to hospitals, classrooms, commercial spaces,
- 49:06Speaker 2: they do it all. 516 D Street in South Charleston, Texas.
- 49:10Speaker 2: West Virginians want to be heard. They have very little voice,
- 49:14Speaker 2: and there is very little regard from elected Republicans. What
- 49:18Speaker 2: does it mean? say that the entire Republican legislature and
- 49:22Speaker 2: governor passed legislation eliminating any control, oversight, or input from
- 49:26Speaker 2: communities that have to deal with data centers? The county
- 49:29Speaker 2: doesn't even get most of the associated tax money. Is
- 49:32Speaker 2: this justified? T.J. Meadows coming up with that talk line.
- 49:36Speaker 2: Is this justified?
- 49:38Speaker 1: My man is what justified.
- 49:40Speaker 2: He wasn't even paying attention.
- 49:40Speaker 7: I was paying attention. Look, I know why they did it.
- 49:44Speaker 7: You may not like it. They want a uniform system
- 49:46Speaker 7: in West Virginia. We don't have a lot of counties
- 49:48Speaker 7: that have zoning. Putnam County has some zoning. You know
- 49:54Speaker 7: what your remedy is? What's that?
- 49:56Speaker 2: Ballot box. Ballot box.
- 50:00Speaker 7: No journey, no growth happens in a straight line. Success
- 50:04Speaker 7: looks like a mess. Because you have all of these
- 50:08Speaker 7: variables that come into play and you have to navigate
- 50:10Speaker 7: the situation. Does the good outweigh the bad? I think
- 50:13Speaker 7: it does. A few texts back, person talking about Putnam County,
- 50:17Speaker 7: bet you my bottom dollar that person's not from Putnam County.
- 50:21Speaker 2: As I said, as somebody who's, when did you move
- 50:23Speaker 2: to Putnam County?
- 50:24Speaker 7: I've been down there 15 years now, a little more
- 50:26Speaker 7: than 15 years.
- 50:26Speaker 1: Okay.
- 50:27Speaker 2: I've been down there for.
- 50:29Speaker 11: 12th.
- 50:30Speaker 2: Math, Dave, math.
- 50:31Speaker 7: We're hustlers down there, man. We like business down there. Seriously,
- 50:35Speaker 7: the mentality is different.
- 50:36Speaker 11: It is. It is.
- 50:37Speaker 2: It is a different mentality down there.
- 50:39Speaker 4: It really, really is.
- 50:40Speaker 2: And other than people complaining about the traffic down there.
- 50:43Speaker 2: And again, as I always say about the traffic, I mean,
- 50:45Speaker 2: Number one, it's a great problem to have. I'll set
- 50:48Speaker 2: in traffic. It means that you have a growing economy.
- 50:50Speaker 2: It means you have people going in. I'll sit for
- 50:52Speaker 2: 15 minutes on the Taze Valley exit, wishing I had
- 50:54Speaker 2: gone to the bathroom before I left the station. But
- 50:56Speaker 2: go ahead.
- 50:56Speaker 1: That's congestion.
- 50:57Speaker 2: That's not really traffic. That's not really traffic.
- 50:59Speaker 7: Go to a major city. Go set the Fort Pitt
- 51:02Speaker 7: Tunnel way to get through. That's traffic.
- 51:03Speaker 5: Been there.
- 51:04Speaker 2: Done that. Not as many times as you have, I'm sure,
- 51:06Speaker 2: but I've been there. Philly is traffic. Yeah. Charlotte can
- 51:09Speaker 2: be traffic.
- 51:10Speaker 7: And you know what?
- 51:10Speaker 2: Atlanta is traffic.
- 51:11Speaker 7: Most of the people that complain about the traffic are people, oh,
- 51:13Speaker 7: I would never move out there because of the traffic.
- 51:15Speaker 7: It's not the people that live there. That's the thing
- 51:18Speaker 7: about Putnam County. Let's just go.
- 51:19Speaker 2: Let's go there.
- 51:20Speaker 7: Why not?
- 51:21Speaker 4: Here we go.
- 51:22Speaker 7: Most of the complaints about Putnam County do not come
- 51:24Speaker 7: from people that live in Putnam County.
- 51:27Speaker 2: Am I right or wrong? I don't know. I do
- 51:29Speaker 2: hear a lot of people. And again, I was at
- 51:31Speaker 2: a chamber of commerce event a couple of weeks ago.
- 51:34Speaker 2: And I was in the middle of a conversation, and
- 51:36Speaker 2: somebody was complaining about all these people moving in and whatever.
- 51:39Speaker 2: It was a nice conversation.
- 51:40Speaker 11: Don't get me wrong.
- 51:40Speaker 2: But I said, you know how many go down to
- 51:42Speaker 2: McDowell County and complain about people moving in? And that's
- 51:46Speaker 2: not a disrespect to the people of McDowell County. Just saying.
- 51:49Speaker 2: Good problems to have.
- 51:50Speaker 11: All right.
- 51:50Speaker 2: What you got coming up on the show?
- 51:52Speaker 7: We'll get into this drug czar story. Amelia Farrell nicely
- 51:54Speaker 7: joins us from West Virginia Watch 1006. Brian Helton, Fayette
- 51:58Speaker 7: County Senator. He wants to reinstate the death penalty. Excuse me. Tennessee. Tennessee.
- 52:03Speaker 7: will execute someone today so we'll get into that with
- 52:06Speaker 7: him that and much much.
- 52:07Speaker 2: More all right again i will see you later today
- 52:10Speaker 2: on metro news midday i will not be here thursday
- 52:13Speaker 2: and friday you have been warned i'm on a beach
- 52:16Speaker 2: somewhere briefly see you later today though till then have
- 52:19Speaker 2: fun i love somebody.
- 52:32Speaker 1: WCHSAM, W243DRFM Charleston, and W283AQ Crosslanes, a WVRC media station.
- 52:40Speaker 1: We're proud to live here too.
