- 0:04Speaker 1: this weekend at twelve noon, Rice three thirty the following
- 0:08Speaker 1: and then Georgia State a night game seven pm, available
- 0:11Speaker 1: at yukontickets dot com. Get them, don't wait. I've had
- 0:15Speaker 1: a lot of people telling me in the last week
- 0:17Speaker 1: or two, as Jamor is with us coach, say here's
- 0:21Speaker 1: how I here's how I monitor what Yukon football is
- 0:25Speaker 1: generating as far as interest, people asking me, when is
- 0:28Speaker 1: the game, who are we playing, what's our chances? How
- 0:32Speaker 1: can we make it work? How can we get five wins?
- 0:35Speaker 1: I'm getting that a lot. I was doing a basketball
- 0:37Speaker 1: game Monday night and I got a lot of football questions.
- 0:40Speaker 1: And that's a positive for me because it tells you
- 0:44Speaker 1: that Yukon sports fans are paying attention. They see what
- 0:48Speaker 1: you're doing, and they're behind you. And now we get
- 0:51Speaker 1: to get him in the stands. Let's get him in
- 0:53Speaker 1: there and let's rock and roll at the rent. So
- 0:57Speaker 1: just looking at that in the next little stretch, now,
- 1:00Speaker 1: opportunity for this team to keep the momentum going.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Yeah. I think if you're a Yukon sports fan, you
- 1:09Speaker 2: want all the sports to be successful. It doesn't mean
- 1:11Speaker 2: you can come to every game of every team you can.
- 1:13Speaker 2: That's impossible. But listen, we appreciate the people that are
- 1:19Speaker 2: in the stadium, whether it's fifteen thousand or thirty five
- 1:22Speaker 2: thousand or forty thousand, whatever it is. You know, those
- 1:24Speaker 2: people that take the time and spend the money come
- 1:27Speaker 2: out and support us, we recognize them. They do have
- 1:31Speaker 2: an impact. Like I've said, you know, the more the merrier,
- 1:35Speaker 2: So you know, we'll take all we can get. Foss
- 1:39Speaker 2: has said it's up to us to play good football
- 1:41Speaker 2: and exciting football and winning football. So people want to
- 1:44Speaker 2: take the time that it takes to come to our
- 1:48Speaker 2: stadium and support us, and you know, we have some challenges.
- 1:50Speaker 2: You know, our students. It's a heck of a heck
- 1:53Speaker 2: of a commitment to come all the way down to
- 1:56Speaker 2: East Hartford to the rent and watch their football team.
- 1:59Speaker 2: And so if those kids are going to do that,
- 2:01Speaker 2: then we have to make sure we reward them, you know.
- 2:04Speaker 2: And it's not something that we fixate on because we
- 2:10Speaker 2: want to just play good football. We know that it
- 2:12Speaker 2: will be a byproduct of good football. So yeah, I mean, listen,
- 2:17Speaker 2: it is what it is. You know, we have to
- 2:19Speaker 2: earn it. We have to earn it every stinking day.
- 2:21Speaker 2: It's been a long time since this program, almost to
- 2:24Speaker 2: the point where you just could assume there'd be a
- 2:25Speaker 2: good crowd. So it's up to us to earn those
- 2:30Speaker 2: fans back and convince them to stay.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I remember what we saw at the end of
- 2:36Speaker 1: the game, and we're going to get to that the
- 2:38Speaker 1: Temple game in a second here, But what we saw
- 2:40Speaker 1: was the players running up to the student section jumping
- 2:43Speaker 1: over the fence, kind of like the Green Bay Leap there,
- 2:46Speaker 1: the Lambeau Leap. That was pretty cool and it reminded
- 2:49Speaker 1: me of the Liberty Game a couple of years ago
- 2:51Speaker 1: when the when the Huskies got Bowl eligible, in the
- 2:54Speaker 1: crowd went nuts, came out on the field, and it
- 2:56Speaker 1: was a real celebration. I mean, sports to me is
- 2:59Speaker 1: about celebrating. Yeah, you're not going to win every week,
- 3:02Speaker 1: you're not going to be the best team every year,
- 3:04Speaker 1: but it's it's kind of that relationship you develop with
- 3:08Speaker 1: your fan base and your players and your coaches that says, hey,
- 3:12Speaker 1: we're all in this together. When we succeed, you guys
- 3:15Speaker 1: have fun and we put on a good show, and
- 3:18Speaker 1: it's just it's just enjoyable to be part of a
- 3:21Speaker 1: sports spectacle like that.
- 3:24Speaker 2: What I think is so unique to college sports is
- 3:28Speaker 2: the connection between the player and the students. You know,
- 3:32Speaker 2: the student athlete and the students that are at your
- 3:34Speaker 2: game supporting you because they're in classes together, they're walking
- 3:37Speaker 2: around campus together. I mean, there's a true alignment. I mean,
- 3:41Speaker 2: there's a true connection. It's not like that in professional sports.
- 3:44Speaker 2: And so and we recognize it's really tough for our
- 3:48Speaker 2: students to get to the games because we don't have
- 3:50Speaker 2: a stadium on campus. But we also know that our
- 3:53Speaker 2: our administration is doing a lot of things right now
- 3:56Speaker 2: to make it a little bit easier for our students
- 3:58Speaker 2: to get here. The different parking lot, the pregame tailgate,
- 4:02Speaker 2: the incentives to come in that are aligned with basketball
- 4:05Speaker 2: tickets and all of those things. So I know that
- 4:09Speaker 2: the first week, you know, there's a lot of excitement.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Our Merrimack game, we had a ton of students there.
- 4:14Speaker 2: It's kind of tapered off. You know, Look, these students
- 4:16Speaker 2: they got a lot going on, right, I mean, they
- 4:19Speaker 2: got a lot going on. But I'll tell you this,
- 4:23Speaker 2: we and usually when i'm kind of finishing up my stairs.
- 4:26Speaker 2: They're letting the first students in, and it's always fun
- 4:29Speaker 2: to see kind of the same crew getting there first
- 4:32Speaker 2: and sitting down right above the tunnel, and you know,
- 4:34Speaker 2: I make sure to thank them all the time for coming,
- 4:36Speaker 2: and yeah, we appreciate the people that are there and
- 4:40Speaker 2: the people that aren't there. We'd sure love to see
- 4:43Speaker 2: you there.
- 4:44Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. That's the thing that I've seen too over
- 4:47Speaker 1: the years of working with Yukon is the coaches are
- 4:50Speaker 1: so important to whatever is happening. And when the fans
- 4:53Speaker 1: and we see this indoors at the Gample, when Yukon
- 4:56Speaker 1: plays hoop there and then Dan Hurley comes out of
- 4:59Speaker 1: the locker room, what they relate to the coaches too,
- 5:02Speaker 1: because you know, the coaches are the leaders of the pack,
- 5:05Speaker 1: right They're out there and they're pumped up and they're
- 5:07Speaker 1: doing their thing before a game. The coaches and the
- 5:10Speaker 1: fans see that, and the students see that. I think
- 5:12Speaker 1: that's a great part of college sports. You don't really
- 5:15Speaker 1: get that on the pro level. I think it's pretty
- 5:17Speaker 1: cool it is.
- 5:18Speaker 2: And the other thing is the band. You know, listen
- 5:21Speaker 2: during a game, I hear the band, but it's background
- 5:25Speaker 2: music or background noise to me. I do know this.
- 5:29Speaker 2: When we score, I definitely hear them. But I can
- 5:31Speaker 2: tell you this my wife every single week, every single week,
- 5:36Speaker 2: Kathy tells me after the game how great our band is,
- 5:38Speaker 2: because you can't and she does, and she makes a point,
- 5:41Speaker 2: you can't even believe how good our band is. You
- 5:42Speaker 2: can't even believe how good our band is. The way
- 5:44Speaker 2: they dance, their energy, their enthusiasm, all that. I saw
- 5:47Speaker 2: that they were rewarded by being able to go up
- 5:50Speaker 2: and perform at the Patriots game Sunday. Yeah, but I
- 5:55Speaker 2: just you know, the commitment of the band and the
- 5:58Speaker 2: students that come to the games every week, especially with
- 6:01Speaker 2: you know, a stadium being not on campus, which you
- 6:04Speaker 2: know that is a big deal. It's something I'm used to.
- 6:06Speaker 2: You know, I've never had a stadium on campus where
- 6:08Speaker 2: I've coached other than when I played at you dubb
- 6:11Speaker 2: So it's a hell of a commitment and we appreciate them.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Yeah, the atmosphere matters. College is so different. I mean
- 6:17Speaker 1: you've been on ro level. It's just different. You know,
- 6:20Speaker 1: It's it's younger, whatever it may be. It's just it's
- 6:23Speaker 1: almost more genuine. It's not business as much on the
- 6:27Speaker 1: college level.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Do you find that, Oh, for sure. And I think,
- 6:30Speaker 2: like I said, I think it's so much of it's
- 6:32Speaker 2: the connection between the player and the and the students
- 6:36Speaker 2: that are there in the student section, like they're in
- 6:39Speaker 2: classes together. You know, they're the same age. You know,
- 6:43Speaker 2: it's not like an NFL game, there's disparity in an
- 6:46Speaker 2: age and uh, and they're they're both representing their school.
- 6:50Speaker 2: The players are representing their school, the fans are representing
- 6:54Speaker 2: their school. It's just it's just cool. I mean, that's
- 6:56Speaker 2: one of the one of the things I just love
- 6:57Speaker 2: about college football is that student section in the band.
- 7:01Speaker 1: It's awesome and that's why you're back and we're happy
- 7:05Speaker 1: you are. All right, we'll be back with Jimour. We're
- 7:07Speaker 1: going to talk a little bit about a couple of
- 7:09Speaker 1: guys who may or may not be available this weekend.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Could be very big. We continue on the Yukon Football
- 7:15Speaker 1: Coaches Show here onlear Field
