- 0:01Speaker 1: Shown from the Quarantine and you've just released your lightest single, Nemesis.
- 0:07Speaker 2: My friend.
- 0:09Speaker 3: Sorry, tell me a bit about a friend of mine.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Sorry, this friend of mine? My bad, I am, Yeah,
- 0:16Speaker 1: So tell me about that. How was how did that
- 0:18Speaker 1: come about? And how has that been tracking? And what
- 0:21Speaker 1: are your vision spoke where you want to bring for yourself.
- 0:28Speaker 4: So Nemesis, the lyrics came to me in like a
- 0:33Speaker 4: you know, like a lightning bolt in the middle of
- 0:35Speaker 4: the night, and it was, you know, they just sort
- 0:42Speaker 4: of spawned out of me, and you know, about an
- 0:46Speaker 4: hour forty you know, forty five minutes or an hour,
- 0:49Speaker 4: and the music came much much later. I thought that
- 0:52Speaker 4: it was, you know, just going to be a cool
- 0:54Speaker 4: poem that that I'll have, you know sometime, and I
- 0:58Speaker 4: didn't think that I would, you know, I didn't write
- 1:01Speaker 4: it thinking this is going to be a song.
- 1:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:04Speaker 4: It became a challenge to me to turn it into
- 1:07Speaker 4: a song because for me, it was a long form poem.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Right the pretty bump uh when I say full on like,
- 1:17Speaker 1: they they're deep, you know, and it carries with it,
- 1:20Speaker 1: I guess, an emotional energy that you want to admit
- 1:25Speaker 1: to your audience and listenership. So to turn that into
- 1:29Speaker 1: a songha to take away from what you may put
- 1:31Speaker 1: into it would be a challenge, I imagine.
- 1:36Speaker 4: Yeah, it's uh yeah, I mean it's yeah. The music
- 1:47Speaker 4: was I put it in there with well, I'm sorry,
- 1:53Speaker 4: I'm terrible.
- 1:54Speaker 2: I'm talking right now.
- 1:56Speaker 1: It's later where you are I can't be here again, celeb.
- 2:05Speaker 4: Yeah, that's all right, okay, so promises the music I
- 2:12Speaker 4: d I. I wanted to put Aliyah's tell Me about Somebody,
- 2:19Speaker 4: that rhythm that dent dent and then yeah, you know
- 2:26Speaker 4: with all those breaks and everything, and put that into
- 2:29Speaker 4: a rock context.
- 2:30Speaker 2: To put that into like a real you know.
- 2:33Speaker 4: Rock context that instead of just the pop context like it.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Had been with you know, Timbaland's song. Yeah.
- 2:40Speaker 4: And so that was the that was the inspiration for
- 2:44Speaker 4: for me writing the riff. And you know, I took
- 2:48Speaker 4: that bit of just that bit and gave that to
- 2:51Speaker 4: the musicians in recording so that they knew, you know,
- 2:54Speaker 4: where I was getting the reference from, and then for
- 2:56Speaker 4: them to expand upon it and do everything that they
- 2:58Speaker 4: wanted to do with yeah.
- 3:00Speaker 3: Yeah, and it has a nice school and my stript
- 3:03Speaker 3: that truck it's of course yeah.
- 3:09Speaker 4: Yeah, it's you know that, it's it those those the
- 3:17Speaker 4: at least the you know, it's right around the corner.
- 3:19Speaker 4: It's right around the bend, the future with no love,
- 3:21Speaker 4: terror with no end.
- 3:22Speaker 2: It's that. That is the first line that hit me.
- 3:28Speaker 4: And when because I wrote out that first line it's
- 3:31Speaker 4: right around the corner. Yeah, and to me, that symbolizes,
- 3:36Speaker 4: you know, a whole lot of paranoia, which is a
- 3:38Speaker 4: good part of anxiety.
- 3:40Speaker 2: You know, it's a good depression, it's a good part
- 3:43Speaker 2: of all of the negative feelings that.
- 3:47Speaker 4: Yeah, but at the same time, you know, that's also
- 3:49Speaker 4: a c CR line. Yeah, gives you a different feeling there.
- 3:57Speaker 3: The corner, you know, a positive it's like use harb.
- 4:01Speaker 4: You know, that's if I remember correctly, it's you know,
- 4:07Speaker 4: it's you know kind of at least I always feel
- 4:09Speaker 4: like it's you know, like a happy drive.
- 4:11Speaker 2: You know, That's how are feels like it.
- 4:14Speaker 4: But in this I wanted to use it to relay
- 4:17Speaker 4: this overall sense of of dread and fear that you
- 4:22Speaker 4: have when in confrontation.
- 4:24Speaker 2: You know, there's a whole.
- 4:26Speaker 4: Lot of the I mean, the song and the concept
- 4:30Speaker 4: of it is is you know, epitomizing the character.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Of a bully, of a narcist, of a of a
- 4:40Speaker 2: person who.
- 4:43Speaker 4: Acts like they're for you, but it's really really not,
- 4:46Speaker 4: you know yea, and in a way, yeah, like and
- 4:51Speaker 4: in some circumstances, you know, we would all like to
- 4:55Speaker 4: think most of the time it's they don't know that
- 4:57Speaker 4: they're actually against you. They're they're just doing what comes
- 5:02Speaker 4: naturally to them. But this is about ulterior motives and
- 5:08Speaker 4: some of the times, you know, I people just something
- 5:14Speaker 4: turns on, you know, they see something about you, they
- 5:17Speaker 4: and to them, they feel like they've got to attack it.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Yeah, And this song is about that confrontation.
- 5:26Speaker 4: It's about overcoming and understanding the personality profile of a
- 5:35Speaker 4: narcissist and.
- 5:37Speaker 2: What they'll do if you let them. Yeah.
- 5:41Speaker 4: It's also about taking that It's really not you know,
- 5:45Speaker 4: about the narcissists, it's about the writers, you know.
- 5:49Speaker 2: Response, what am I going to do about it?
- 5:52Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 5:53Speaker 4: And for the entire song, I feel like it keeps
- 5:57Speaker 4: you in the driver's seat of you, you know, in
- 6:01Speaker 4: a way, it's kind of like, you know, there's R. L.
- 6:02Speaker 4: Segin novels where you choose your own ending.
- 6:05Speaker 3: Yeah, you're own ending.
- 6:07Speaker 1: Yeah, But once you know I come to understand the
- 6:09Speaker 1: narcissist and how they work. They really become manipulate.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Eight.
- 6:12Speaker 1: It's so easily manipulated. You can predict their response. There's
- 6:16Speaker 1: almost verbatim. It's sounds quite amusing.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 6:20Speaker 4: Yes, once you've been across that rob, Yeah, once you
- 6:26Speaker 4: understand the profile and you actually believe that that is
- 6:29Speaker 4: the thing and accept them for what they are they.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Are exactly instead of as though they were a normal person,
- 6:35Speaker 1: because that's what it's just so shocking and like, oh
- 6:37Speaker 1: my gosh, what it's this person doing.
- 6:38Speaker 3: But yeah, it's that exception of no, they are.
- 6:42Speaker 1: This horrible person. And then it's just like, is it
- 6:46Speaker 1: really that simple? Did I miss something?
- 6:49Speaker 3: So?
- 6:49Speaker 4: Yes, yes, And a lot of times I found where
- 6:52Speaker 4: it truly it comes down to just you choosing to
- 6:55Speaker 4: not react, to not react, to not give it. That's
- 7:00Speaker 4: why the song is I'll never go back in the
- 7:04Speaker 4: in the bridge part, this song is saying I'll never
- 7:06Speaker 4: rewind to that place in time that nemesis friend of mine. Yeah,
- 7:10Speaker 4: you know, but it's it's really if you think about it,
- 7:14Speaker 4: and narcisst will put you through the entire five stages
- 7:16Speaker 4: of grief. It's about and once you get to acceptances,
- 7:21Speaker 4: when you finally are able to overcome it.
- 7:24Speaker 3: Yes, interesting, I take it actually, Yeah.
- 7:27Speaker 4: Yeah, so the song is really the fact you you know,
- 7:31Speaker 4: if you're writing it, as you know, if you're like
- 7:34Speaker 4: you're writing a ride and you're the writer, you'll see
- 7:39Speaker 4: another character go through the five stages of grief.
- 7:42Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know.
- 7:43Speaker 1: That's so, that's that's very very interesting. It's very it's like,
- 7:49Speaker 1: we'll take on that because it's true. It's when we
- 7:51Speaker 1: gets there and how do I survive and without computing
- 7:56Speaker 1: homicide or be without going insane yourself trying to think
- 7:58Speaker 1: inside the mind of somebody like that. It's yeah, it's
- 8:01Speaker 1: certainly it changes you and hopefully most people for the best,
- 8:05Speaker 1: not you know, not to become like that. But it's
- 8:08Speaker 1: certainly a journey when you've if you've unfortunately about to
- 8:11Speaker 1: be on that, which yeah, onwards and opwards. And the
- 8:15Speaker 1: best part about it is if you can use those
- 8:18Speaker 1: kind of experiences and make music out of it and
- 8:21Speaker 1: turn it into a positive, then you've won.
- 8:24Speaker 3: You know, it's an extra tick on to your side.
- 8:26Speaker 1: It's yeah, rather than it's being like another issue that
- 8:30Speaker 1: I've going to deal with it. It's like you use
- 8:32Speaker 1: it for your advantage, and certainly.
- 8:36Speaker 3: It's handy. It's nice. It's a nice if you right
- 8:38Speaker 3: back at them too as well. I think when you.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Can do that.
- 8:42Speaker 4: Yes, yeah, and I hope that the song is really,
- 8:46Speaker 4: you know, in the end a win for everybody who
- 8:49Speaker 4: you know and listens to it in that way.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:52Speaker 3: No, it's a great track.
- 8:53Speaker 1: And I have just said you said, like the chorus
- 8:55Speaker 1: like it's it's really it's you hear it. It's funny
- 8:59Speaker 1: because I had been listening to it and then I
- 9:00Speaker 1: was I downloaded a couple of the tracks and then
- 9:04Speaker 1: I was have my EarPods in and I was doing
- 9:06Speaker 1: something and was just on a random play and it
- 9:08Speaker 1: come on. I'm like, oh, I looked to this song
- 9:10Speaker 1: and it was yours and I didn't realize and when
- 9:12Speaker 1: the chorus coming and I went, oh, that's it, and
- 9:13Speaker 1: it is. It's that chorus that really it hits. It's
- 9:17Speaker 1: it's it's kind of like it grows on you. It
- 9:19Speaker 1: definitely does, you know. And it's you know, the you
- 9:23Speaker 1: stay like the reference between like rock metal and rap,
- 9:27Speaker 1: and it's yeah, you can definitely see those two in
- 9:30Speaker 1: there and almost even I tentatively say a little into the.
- 9:34Speaker 3: Nashville influence as well. It's it's could have been sounds good.
- 9:38Speaker 2: I like it.
- 9:39Speaker 3: It's a hybrid over all the good things. So yeah, thank.
- 9:44Speaker 2: You, I appreciate that.
- 9:45Speaker 4: Yeah, it's you know, there's the the stadium musicians themselves
- 9:49Speaker 4: were saying, I'm going to play the California rock thing
- 9:52Speaker 4: in there. Oh yes, because that's where I'm from from California,
- 9:56Speaker 4: and the big began in Los Angeles, but we're all
- 10:00Speaker 4: recording it in Nashville.
- 10:01Speaker 2: We're recording at Blackbird Studios.
- 10:02Speaker 4: And Ville and so you know, there's all of it
- 10:07Speaker 4: was put together in a range before I even delivered
- 10:10Speaker 4: it to the Nashville studio. So to me, the the
- 10:17Speaker 4: to me, the Nashville influence is really the sonic quality
- 10:20Speaker 4: of everything, the warmth of everything.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:24Speaker 4: These API boards that you know have been there since
- 10:27Speaker 4: you know, the nineteen seventies or you know, that's something
- 10:32Speaker 4: when the big one in Studio B is you know,
- 10:34Speaker 4: that's that's the one that Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift
- 10:37Speaker 4: and like all of.
- 10:38Speaker 2: The pop is used to record all.
- 10:40Speaker 4: Of their you know, all of the multi instrument you
- 10:45Speaker 4: know tracks that they had and the big chestral stuff
- 10:48Speaker 4: where they have strings and horns and piano and organ
- 10:51Speaker 4: and drums and guitar.
- 10:53Speaker 2: And then electric guitar and then the solo electric guitar.
- 10:56Speaker 2: You know.
- 10:56Speaker 4: They there's like nine satellite rooms around this thing. Studio
- 11:01Speaker 4: bat is massive. It's a massive room. And we were
- 11:05Speaker 4: in there just jamming it just these drugs and they
- 11:09Speaker 4: were listening to the tracks and just laying it out
- 11:11Speaker 4: in that.
- 11:13Speaker 2: It was great to use that room in.
- 11:15Speaker 4: This way because even the even the studio managers like
- 11:19Speaker 4: he's like, we don't get a lot of times where it's.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Just people to a few people to lock into it.
- 11:24Speaker 2: And he's, oh, that's right, you know.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Yeah, So it sounds like obviously you're in big in
- 11:30Speaker 1: the studio and bringing it together once it's you're taking
- 11:33Speaker 1: it from that concept or something you've you know, put
- 11:36Speaker 1: together yourself and bringing other musicians to it.
- 11:39Speaker 3: Tell me about that. How did did that man like
- 11:41Speaker 3: was a.
- 11:44Speaker 1: Chase buyer freely or did you were you open to
- 11:47Speaker 1: you know, add import or how did that end up
- 11:50Speaker 1: to be what it is?
- 11:52Speaker 2: It?
- 11:52Speaker 3: The full finished product?
- 11:54Speaker 4: Yeah, well, I actually recorded it myself and with a
- 11:58Speaker 4: couple of other studio musicians who and you know, essentially
- 12:04Speaker 4: I gave them the the song forum, the with the
- 12:09Speaker 4: lyrics and the vocals and the rhythm guitars, all the
- 12:13Speaker 4: all the rhythm guitars in the bass done. And I
- 12:16Speaker 4: gave them the idea and the concept of the song,
- 12:20Speaker 4: the influences, you know what I was trying to get,
- 12:23Speaker 4: you know, get it to sound similar to and then
- 12:26Speaker 4: I let them have creative control over it, to create
- 12:29Speaker 4: their parts within the framework.
- 12:31Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:33Speaker 4: Then once that once I had gone through that process.
- 12:35Speaker 4: So I had gone through that process, and then I
- 12:37Speaker 4: was trying to mix it myself for a solid you know,
- 12:40Speaker 4: a couple of years, and I couldn't get it to
- 12:44Speaker 4: be the you know, sound the right way. There were
- 12:47Speaker 4: parts that I liked, and then there are parts where
- 12:49Speaker 4: I'm like, I don't even remember exactly what I did,
- 12:52Speaker 4: and I feel.
- 12:53Speaker 3: Like I recreated again. I couldn't tell you I've done
- 12:58Speaker 3: how I do it again?
- 13:00Speaker 2: I don't even Yeah, I don't even know. And so.
- 13:06Speaker 4: Yeah, and eventually, what what I realized was that I
- 13:11Speaker 4: wasn't I was looking at it from the creator's perspective,
- 13:17Speaker 4: and once I look at it from the unknowing unassuming,
- 13:23Speaker 4: regular person and took away.
- 13:28Speaker 2: All of my.
- 13:30Speaker 4: Pre cognitive knowledge that I have of everything, And essentially
- 13:35Speaker 4: I would close my eyes and you know, put it
- 13:38Speaker 4: in between listening to a whole bunch of stuff that's
- 13:40Speaker 4: nothing like it.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Yeah, then bring the track.
- 13:43Speaker 4: So it's like, you know, you're cleansing your ears, You're
- 13:46Speaker 4: cleansing your mind of all of the things that you
- 13:50Speaker 4: think and feel about the song of what, because you
- 13:52Speaker 4: hear it in your head a lot of times better
- 13:55Speaker 4: than what it actually is on on the stereotape.
- 13:59Speaker 2: Sometimes when you're doing it yourself.
- 14:01Speaker 3: Yeah, it gives me hard to introduce your music like that.
- 14:04Speaker 2: Something hard, Yeah, right, right, it's hard to separate those mentalities.
- 14:10Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 14:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:12Speaker 4: I found that when I so, I had the all
- 14:15Speaker 4: these finished versions, and I knew that they weren't good enough,
- 14:18Speaker 4: but I knew that that the ideas and the concepts
- 14:22Speaker 4: of what I was going for, and to give myself
- 14:24Speaker 4: another chance at nailing all of the production and all
- 14:29Speaker 4: of my parts again would actually be a favor to myself.
- 14:35Speaker 4: Because I've been listening to them for three years now,
- 14:38Speaker 4: I'm memorized every single second everything. So it's like when
- 14:43Speaker 4: I showed up to do all the records, to do
- 14:47Speaker 4: all of my guitar parts and everything. I knew exactly
- 14:49Speaker 4: what to do. You know, a lot of they would
- 14:51Speaker 4: be like, well, that take was just fine, and I'm like, no,
- 14:55Speaker 4: at least give me three every time and then we'll
- 14:58Speaker 4: pick from the best three, but three minimum. And so
- 15:02Speaker 4: I gave myself that space to really use all of
- 15:07Speaker 4: the because for me, I'm improving all the time.
- 15:11Speaker 3: I'm always yeah.
- 15:13Speaker 2: You know, to get better.
- 15:15Speaker 4: And so three years of that and listening back to
- 15:19Speaker 4: where I was three years ago is actually a really
- 15:22Speaker 4: big jump, like a small.
- 15:24Speaker 3: Bench town and it's like stars going off for who
- 15:26Speaker 3: are we normally don't get this place? What's going on?
- 15:31Speaker 3: It's hard.
- 15:32Speaker 4: Yeah, So you know, once you give yourself that, that
- 15:37Speaker 4: that good second chance in a in this uh, in
- 15:42Speaker 4: this situation at a world class studio.
- 15:45Speaker 3: Yeah, that's precio. That's a lot of pressure, it's like yeah, but.
- 15:51Speaker 2: For me, I felt perfectly calm because I knew all
- 15:53Speaker 2: my parts. So for me, it wasn't sure. It was
- 15:57Speaker 2: finally just oh God, I could be done with it.
- 15:59Speaker 4: Thank God, I finally get the version that I'm looking for.
- 16:04Speaker 4: Like that's that's that was the relief that it was
- 16:08Speaker 4: so mansions.
- 16:09Speaker 3: Of get tracked, like it's like which ones which, and yeah,
- 16:12Speaker 3: it's but.
- 16:13Speaker 2: I knew exactly what I wanted to do.
- 16:15Speaker 4: And so when you take away that and just for me,
- 16:18Speaker 4: it was I spent the entire you know, once I
- 16:21Speaker 4: booked the session, which was about a month or so,
- 16:23Speaker 4: month and a half or so out, I spent the
- 16:26Speaker 4: two weeks just you know, clearing my mind of everything
- 16:29Speaker 4: that I needed to do and focusing on just the
- 16:33Speaker 4: if I was going to practice anything, it was just
- 16:35Speaker 4: going to be the techniques of the particular parts, not
- 16:39Speaker 4: even the full parts themselves, just the technique that it
- 16:41Speaker 4: needs to be done. So that way I could leave
- 16:45Speaker 4: myself the chance to do something creative in those other
- 16:50Speaker 4: parts and not be.
- 16:51Speaker 2: Held back by what I had before.
- 16:54Speaker 4: Yeah, and that whole process within just within me was
- 16:59Speaker 4: very critical part of accomplishing the text that I had,
- 17:04Speaker 4: which was make something better than what I had before,
- 17:07Speaker 4: infinitely better, not just a little bit, infinitely better than
- 17:09Speaker 4: what I had before. Yeah, I had myself that launching pad,
- 17:13Speaker 4: and if you don't give yourself you launching bad, your
- 17:15Speaker 4: rocketing is going to go off.
- 17:17Speaker 2: That's it.
- 17:18Speaker 1: And Also it's also a big part of like when
- 17:21Speaker 1: you're in a studio and having someone else produce your work.
- 17:24Speaker 1: It's handing over that that control to someone else and
- 17:27Speaker 1: trusting that they're going to develop you.
- 17:30Speaker 3: And we call them turd polishes. They make this sound.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Fabulous, it's like, but yeah, it is. It's relinquishing that
- 17:40Speaker 1: or allowing you know, which the way you want to
- 17:42Speaker 1: see it, someone else to come in and enhance that.
- 17:44Speaker 1: And you know it's yeah, I mean it depends on
- 17:49Speaker 1: you know, coming to it when you've developed what you
- 17:52Speaker 1: have or you know for yourself and it's.
- 17:54Speaker 3: Something that you're proud of and you know is good and.
- 17:55Speaker 1: You want it to work, or you know, instance like itself,
- 17:59Speaker 1: IE's like, I've got no idea what I'm doing, but
- 18:01Speaker 1: I'm just gonna trust someone else. And and so yeah,
- 18:04Speaker 1: it's coming to it like that, to have to hand
- 18:08Speaker 1: hand over and step back.
- 18:10Speaker 3: It's it's hard to do, but it's when you can't.
- 18:13Speaker 1: I think that's probably what causes those books that you're
- 18:16Speaker 1: not getting better.
- 18:17Speaker 3: It's not you know, enhancing for sure.
- 18:21Speaker 1: So yeah, so your other music so previously is it
- 18:24Speaker 1: something different that you've done before?
- 18:27Speaker 3: You know, the Quarantine. You'll be around for a little
- 18:29Speaker 3: while as an artist.
- 18:32Speaker 4: Yeah, we we the band's been around since twenty eleven. Yeah,
- 18:37Speaker 4: and we had a record, well two records previous to this,
- 18:43Speaker 4: Antiquate Hate and our self titled EP, and both well,
- 18:48Speaker 4: the Antiquate Hate one was produced by George G.
- 18:52Speaker 2: Want Archie, who was on He's a multi Grammy.
- 18:56Speaker 4: Winning multi or the Grammy winning producer and engineer and
- 19:01Speaker 4: he he was the original engineer on.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Death Row Records.
- 19:05Speaker 4: It's incredible, So it's it's like he's amazing stories, but.
- 19:13Speaker 2: It's his knowledge of how to.
- 19:15Speaker 4: Put record together and to deliver a larger than life
- 19:20Speaker 4: sound in rock and rap is unparalleled. And that record
- 19:25Speaker 4: still that, that record still is. You know, there's still
- 19:30Speaker 4: some legs in it, believe it or not. And I've
- 19:33Speaker 4: got some plans to, you know, do some fun things
- 19:36Speaker 4: with it after a version of normalcy, so.
- 19:39Speaker 3: Like a re release or you maybe a different editional.
- 19:44Speaker 4: Yes, yes, I'm looking at at a few different options
- 19:48Speaker 4: and there's some really fun options on the team. I
- 19:53Speaker 4: can't really say what they are right now, but yes,
- 19:57Speaker 4: I can say that I.
- 19:58Speaker 3: Guess collaboration maybe down the line that.
- 20:01Speaker 4: Would be there yeah, there's some fun things. There's a
- 20:05Speaker 4: lot of fun things. Yeah, so you know, but that's that's,
- 20:08Speaker 4: you know.
- 20:09Speaker 2: Off in the future a little bit.
- 20:10Speaker 4: But for this, for you know, are we've been doing punk,
- 20:14Speaker 4: metal and grunge for a good long time now, solid twelve,
- 20:20Speaker 4: well fourteen years now. Yeah, we've had a relatively similar
- 20:25Speaker 4: you know kind of message, and that message is be.
- 20:29Speaker 2: Free in your mind.
- 20:30Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 20:31Speaker 2: Yeah, not it's very easy.
- 20:34Speaker 4: To get locked into the propaganda of the time, the
- 20:41Speaker 4: the pressuring forces, invisible pressuring forces, peer pressure type forces
- 20:47Speaker 4: that gets you to believe really really ridiculous things. And
- 20:53Speaker 4: in America it's I don't know exactly I like to
- 20:57Speaker 4: think this and you can probably can otherwise of this,
- 21:01Speaker 4: but I like to think that Australia is smarter than
- 21:05Speaker 4: the United States.
- 21:07Speaker 3: In what sense, like.
- 21:10Speaker 4: Well, let me say that you guys don't have as
- 21:12Speaker 4: much like obvious propaganda that we do.
- 21:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:16Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, Well I'm very laid back, and I guess
- 21:21Speaker 1: it's that, you know, kind of that lack of patriotism
- 21:24Speaker 1: to a sense is also kind of it relieves us
- 21:27Speaker 1: from you know, that full propaganda and you know, political
- 21:32Speaker 1: social stuff that just really consumes the every day US citizen, which.
- 21:38Speaker 3: Should be a challenge.
- 21:42Speaker 4: That sounds like a bally beach and a fucking my
- 21:46Speaker 4: tie in my hand right now when you to lift
- 21:51Speaker 4: yourself of all the hatred of the partisan oh my,
- 21:54Speaker 4: oh my god.
- 21:56Speaker 3: I couldn't imagine. Honestly, it's time, you know, really.
- 22:02Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean like before it was you know, every day,
- 22:04Speaker 4: but it was something stupid and innocuous. Now it's like
- 22:08Speaker 4: the very founding of everything, the very founding of every
- 22:12Speaker 4: concept you ever had of America, is now just being eroded.
- 22:15Speaker 4: And it's it's like concerning doesn't even do it just
- 22:18Speaker 4: it was concerning six years ago. Now it's like off
- 22:23Speaker 4: the fucking rails. And I don't really know how to
- 22:31Speaker 4: deal with that, you know, in what to say in public,
- 22:35Speaker 4: and I know every artist is struggling with it. But
- 22:38Speaker 4: the thing that my music has been doing since has
- 22:43Speaker 4: been saying, watch the fuck out for fascism there, you're
- 22:50Speaker 4: right there, you need to stop and look at what
- 22:54Speaker 4: is going on with you like that's and that's been
- 22:58Speaker 4: the whole point and purpose of we saw that.
- 23:00Speaker 1: I screaming this, but yeah, I am. It's terrifying, Like
- 23:06Speaker 1: what happens in the sights at the moment, like your society.
- 23:10Speaker 3: Is just it's.
- 23:13Speaker 1: It's almost likely you speechless just to think the most
- 23:15Speaker 1: outrageous things happening. And then the level of accountability people
- 23:20Speaker 1: want to put on other individuals. It's such a critical
- 23:25Speaker 1: without looking within pefore that looking without and pointing fingers
- 23:28Speaker 1: and it's just.
- 23:29Speaker 3: On your own ship people like, you know, it is
- 23:31Speaker 3: what it is.
- 23:32Speaker 4: Yeah, it's there's there's so many different little you know, yeah,
- 23:37Speaker 4: little issue. But that is very much a very appropriate
- 23:40Speaker 4: and good generalization on the feeling of you know, looking
- 23:45Speaker 4: at all of this go on, and no matter how much.
- 23:48Speaker 2: You you agree with it or disagree with.
- 23:50Speaker 4: It, you have to admit that the process that we
- 23:54Speaker 4: have in Americas not working to communicate people about issues
- 23:59Speaker 4: that mean a lot to us.
- 24:01Speaker 2: Yeah, and even though they mean a.
- 24:02Speaker 4: Lot to us, you still have to be speaking with
- 24:06Speaker 4: at least a little bit of eloquence and a little
- 24:09Speaker 4: bit of grace to the person who you're talking to.
- 24:11Speaker 1: Yeah, that seems to have been lost in translation with
- 24:14Speaker 1: you guys. Well, it's it's like so far gone, like
- 24:18Speaker 1: you know, we're still here, like you know, being mindful
- 24:21Speaker 1: of everyone's you know, position, and like you know, don't
- 24:23Speaker 1: say anything out you know, don't speak out about it's
- 24:27Speaker 1: just that mindfulness. And I guess it's from an outsider
- 24:30Speaker 1: looking in where the states are at the moment, it's
- 24:34Speaker 1: they it's like they can only be one you know,
- 24:37Speaker 1: one answer or one truth or one right without acknowledging
- 24:40Speaker 1: that there's many, many parties and positions people have. It's
- 24:46Speaker 1: okay to have more than one truth or perception or
- 24:52Speaker 1: position and to not you know, attack and destroy some
- 24:58Speaker 1: just because they don't agree with your point of view.
- 25:02Speaker 3: It's terrifying, like to think.
- 25:03Speaker 1: That that's you know, they're they're demonizing themselves and this
- 25:07Speaker 1: citizen warfare of like you know mindset, it's it's crazy,
- 25:11Speaker 1: it's so it really it really makes you wonder where
- 25:16Speaker 1: it's setting it and why can't they just stick be
- 25:17Speaker 1: accepting of multiple ideas and that are you know, publicly
- 25:23Speaker 1: acceptable and socially okay, you know, the hatred of one
- 25:26Speaker 1: because you don't believe in this and that. I just
- 25:29Speaker 1: it's a foreign concept, you know for me, how you
- 25:31Speaker 1: know people can exist like that, And it's just exhausting,
- 25:34Speaker 1: Like it's a lot of energy to like, you know,
- 25:37Speaker 1: people put in hate and shade on someone that's really
- 25:39Speaker 1: you know, how is that affecting or sounds like a
- 25:42Speaker 1: new problem? None of them problem, it's yeah, And I
- 25:45Speaker 1: guess as an artist through that would be it would
- 25:48Speaker 1: be tough, like you know, especially if you're you know,
- 25:50Speaker 1: the controversial or the deliberately provoking type of artists they
- 25:55Speaker 1: get out there and you know, we just come with
- 25:57Speaker 1: the back and did a live review of the Dead
- 25:58Speaker 1: Kennedy for example, you know, the political you know that
- 26:02Speaker 1: it's you know, how would that sit, you know in
- 26:06Speaker 1: today's society.
- 26:07Speaker 3: If that were you know, artist soul.
- 26:09Speaker 1: Were coming out and doing that, they just they wouldn't
- 26:11Speaker 1: get a shot, like they would't even get that just
- 26:13Speaker 1: be literally shut down and taking off canceled straight away.
- 26:17Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean I I do. There's a part of
- 26:20Speaker 4: me that really wants to test that theory. Part of
- 26:23Speaker 4: me wants to be like, you know what, I'm gonna
- 26:25Speaker 4: do naz off the first time that I get up
- 26:32Speaker 4: national talent.
- 26:33Speaker 5: There's a there's a there's a part of me that
- 26:36Speaker 5: goes yeah.
- 26:39Speaker 3: So especially nowadays.
- 26:43Speaker 5: Yeah, absolutely, And I have always, you know, as my
- 26:48Speaker 5: artist voice has always been in the punk, metal and
- 26:51Speaker 5: grunge side of things that trying to to you know,
- 26:55Speaker 5: it's in the the it's in the way of everything
- 26:58Speaker 5: that you're talking about.
- 26:59Speaker 4: It's in the way of when people only want to
- 27:01Speaker 4: think one particular way about one group of about all
- 27:03Speaker 4: groups of.
- 27:04Speaker 1: And that's how grungs that sort of come about because
- 27:06Speaker 1: it wasn't like the mainstream the.
- 27:08Speaker 3: Rest of it.
- 27:08Speaker 1: It was you know, that underground stuff that then became
- 27:11Speaker 1: popular culture. And it's yeah, and I guess essentially as well,
- 27:17Speaker 1: it's that giving that voice to the to the minority.
- 27:19Speaker 4: It's absolutely and that that is one of the fun
- 27:25Speaker 4: things that I think in talking with rap fans is
- 27:28Speaker 4: that I consider rap and punk to be as as
- 27:33Speaker 4: far as the message.
- 27:34Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I agree.
- 27:37Speaker 4: So like a real rap like yeah, like if you
- 27:41Speaker 4: listen to most staff like most staff and rock him
- 27:46Speaker 4: uh Eric b like they are, there's so's there's so
- 27:51Speaker 4: many trucky like it's not just Zach Deal Relka, not
- 27:55Speaker 4: just the politically driven you know rappers, but they're all
- 28:01Speaker 4: speaking in a in a way that's it's supposed to
- 28:06Speaker 4: be controversial, it's supposed to be standing up to something,
- 28:09Speaker 4: it's supposed to be fighting a battle somewhere.
- 28:12Speaker 3: Really fringes from the edges.
- 28:13Speaker 4: Yeah, like I'm I'm dealing with something and if it's
- 28:18Speaker 4: a thing in society, then man, fuck that thing. And
- 28:20Speaker 4: I'm trying to deal with this thing that Yeah, yeah,
- 28:25Speaker 4: that is the same fucking concept as punk. That's the
- 28:28Speaker 4: exact same time. I've found that that putting them all together.
- 28:34Speaker 4: I hope that you know, music genre nerds don't get
- 28:38Speaker 4: all you know, twisted out about it, like they all.
- 28:42Speaker 3: They all believe something to think about.
- 28:46Speaker 2: Yeah sure, And.
- 28:47Speaker 4: And I hoped if if this project hurts the brain
- 28:49Speaker 4: in that way, then I'm very.
- 28:50Speaker 3: Happy because I'm awful.
- 28:54Speaker 1: Drunge and people wrap as like and to enjoy the
- 28:57Speaker 1: two together like because I just I think I'm waved
- 28:59Speaker 1: with the like them just so far entered the spectrum,
- 29:02Speaker 1: but they're not really. And we've had like a couple
- 29:04Speaker 1: of Aussie like hip hop artists who've just recreated ed
- 29:09Speaker 1: covers of you know, some about best grunge like artists
- 29:12Speaker 1: and turn them into like this, the hybrid like punk
- 29:16Speaker 1: rock down hip hop was listen, that's I actually did
- 29:18Speaker 1: that he grin splitting and then they did the Rubens
- 29:19Speaker 1: and they slapp They're great songs and it's and it's
- 29:23Speaker 1: a it's appreciation of like each other's style, and.
- 29:28Speaker 3: It's it's good.
- 29:29Speaker 2: I like it.
- 29:29Speaker 3: And you know, the.
- 29:30Speaker 1: Altoman like the Chili Peppers they sort of like brought
- 29:32Speaker 1: that about, didn't they with their punk funk and you
- 29:35Speaker 1: know they're almost that rap style. And then that you
- 29:38Speaker 1: came into artists like twenty eight Days and whatnot where
- 29:40Speaker 1: it become more of a thing, and it's yeah to
- 29:43Speaker 1: see that coming back. Hopefully we'll see more of it
- 29:46Speaker 1: coming back. It's definitely just got a place and it's
- 29:48Speaker 1: got you know, listenership that that more more more of
- 29:52Speaker 1: that stuff.
- 29:54Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I absolutely know. It's been a.
- 29:58Speaker 4: Great journey to go and find as many of those
- 30:02Speaker 4: people as possible. And I'm hoping that I can you know,
- 30:08Speaker 4: work my way into a bit, you know, to try
- 30:13Speaker 4: and and bridge bridge those guests, because I think even
- 30:17Speaker 4: music nowadays has become you know, kind of contrarian, Like
- 30:23Speaker 4: I think I think I know that, you know, like well,
- 30:28Speaker 4: the Lady Gaga and Metallica mix at the Grammys, see
- 30:34Speaker 4: it's brilliant.
- 30:35Speaker 2: Yeah, it was fantastic.
- 30:37Speaker 4: I thought it was great, Like it didn't even matter
- 30:39Speaker 4: that the that the microphone went out, and I know
- 30:42Speaker 4: Ted Field is super pissed about it, but he really
- 30:44Speaker 4: shouldn't reason because that that do the mixing of them
- 30:49Speaker 4: and their vocals, that her higher pop vocals and his
- 30:52Speaker 4: lower rumble but perfect, it's perfect.
- 30:56Speaker 2: So just that alone to demonstrate that was well worth it.
- 31:01Speaker 3: Absolutely, and I'm all for that.
- 31:02Speaker 1: Like the two of the most you know, extreme ends
- 31:06Speaker 1: of like music joining together that are you know, absolutely
- 31:09Speaker 1: amazing in their own rights. I love that shit, I
- 31:12Speaker 1: absolutely love it, and I think there needs to be
- 31:15Speaker 1: more of that, And if that's the new the new trend, then.
- 31:17Speaker 6: I'm I'm off for I'm there, I'm front, and yeah,
- 31:22Speaker 6: I want to show us that our passions are way
- 31:27Speaker 6: more similar than they are.
- 31:28Speaker 3: Yeah, we're more the same than what we're different. Absolutely,
- 31:31Speaker 3: that's different ways of us expressing it.
- 31:33Speaker 2: Yeah, in the diversity.
- 31:36Speaker 4: Absolutely showing that in art nowadays can hopefully start to,
- 31:41Speaker 4: you know, at least give people an example of the
- 31:46Speaker 4: process that it takes to not be hating of everything
- 31:49Speaker 4: you don't know.
- 31:50Speaker 1: Yeah, like, just have an open mind and an open
- 31:53Speaker 1: ears and just embrace it all. I really struggle that
- 31:56Speaker 1: people they lock themselves into particular genre. Yeah, you might
- 31:59Speaker 1: have like that's my jam and that's my thing. But
- 32:02Speaker 1: opening yourself up to new stuff, I mean that that's
- 32:05Speaker 1: where you get there as an artist. You know myself
- 32:07Speaker 1: as well. That's where you learn and and you get
- 32:10Speaker 1: you get all the good stuff, you get to experience
- 32:13Speaker 1: it all.
- 32:13Speaker 3: I'm cutting myself off and nothing.
- 32:17Speaker 2: Yeah, it's you know, it's easy to forget how you
- 32:25Speaker 2: get there once you've been there and enjoy And.
- 32:27Speaker 4: I felt that And yeah, the thing about the about
- 32:32Speaker 4: my music is that it lays out that pathway at
- 32:35Speaker 4: least at least for me.
- 32:37Speaker 2: It gives me signposts.
- 32:38Speaker 1: On my Yeah, and a lot of the biggest artists,
- 32:43Speaker 1: especially like you know you full on your rock and
- 32:46Speaker 1: you know, heavy metal. I mean a lot of them
- 32:48Speaker 1: come from a classically trained background, which is you know essential.
- 32:52Speaker 1: It's is that core foundation that we all start somewhere
- 32:55Speaker 1: like guitar lessons and when we were kids or whatever
- 32:58Speaker 1: it may be. And and it's your music is the
- 33:01Speaker 1: universal language. It's the universal everything. Every note has been
- 33:04Speaker 1: played before. It's just that, you know, but how we
- 33:07Speaker 1: how we put it together and how we then present
- 33:11Speaker 1: that it's we're all speaking the same language. And I
- 33:13Speaker 1: think that does that does get lost in translation. I
- 33:16Speaker 1: think sometimes people forget for sure. Yeah, well it's been
- 33:21Speaker 1: great to chat to you again. So your albums out now,
- 33:26Speaker 1: plans for a tour, what's the what's what's the future
- 33:28Speaker 1: look twenty twenty six and the end of twenty five
- 33:30Speaker 1: look like for the Quarantined.
- 33:33Speaker 2: Well, so the album, the album, the whole album is.
- 33:36Speaker 3: Not oh sorry you're.
- 33:40Speaker 2: Yeah, yes, yeah.
- 33:41Speaker 4: We have a Trendsetter, which is maybe my favorite on
- 33:46Speaker 4: the record maybe honestly, it's it's close close time between
- 33:52Speaker 4: the next one. That's myself and I don't even know
- 33:57Speaker 4: how it did.
- 33:58Speaker 3: It must be something up beat that I'm on them
- 34:01Speaker 3: that loves pretty Yeah.
- 34:03Speaker 4: The other one Instagram Hell and that's that's the other
- 34:06Speaker 4: single that and that is very much in that punk
- 34:11Speaker 4: mindset straight up, like what the hell are you even doing?
- 34:16Speaker 1: I didn't get Instagram for a long time.
- 34:19Speaker 4: And it's exactly what it sounds like. So that one's
- 34:23Speaker 4: going to be super fun. And that's and then after that,
- 34:27Speaker 4: we have an entire section of music videos that we're
- 34:29Speaker 4: going to release for all of a Version to Normalcy.
- 34:31Speaker 4: We're gonna have a series of music videos that will
- 34:35Speaker 4: play like it's a short film, so.
- 34:37Speaker 3: They're all meant to go yeah, yeah, I get that.
- 34:40Speaker 2: Hell story, you know, all the way through.
- 34:43Speaker 4: So we're working on that right now, and that's we
- 34:47Speaker 4: have a plan to release that into twenty twenty six.
- 34:51Speaker 2: Along with a radio campaign and.
- 34:55Speaker 4: You know, then a music video for Instagram how and
- 35:00Speaker 4: all of that into twenty twenty six. So there's a
- 35:03Speaker 4: whole lot going of content that we've got to release
- 35:06Speaker 4: and and and release and promote until we are going
- 35:11Speaker 4: to start talking about tours for twenty Yeah.
- 35:15Speaker 1: I mean, because you've got like eighty one thousand bullow
- 35:17Speaker 1: it's on a Spotify, don't you know.
- 35:19Speaker 3: It's you know, you've got the numbers.
- 35:21Speaker 2: It's yeah, yeah, it's gone up.
- 35:24Speaker 4: I mean honestly, we started in June of this year
- 35:27Speaker 4: with three That's wild.
- 35:30Speaker 3: That's It's wild.
- 35:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 35:32Speaker 4: I never expected that it would have this kind of
- 35:35Speaker 4: a bigger response and bigger results. And I can't I
- 35:38Speaker 4: can't wait to put this music in front of you know,
- 35:42Speaker 4: the fans and the Bible and really show our you know,
- 35:46Speaker 4: be able to give give them a true gift of
- 35:51Speaker 4: sharing it back and sharing those feelings back and forth.
- 35:53Speaker 2: I can't wait to do that. Tour on live.
- 35:56Speaker 4: It's going to be fantastic, but there is so many
- 35:58Speaker 4: hoops that we have to jump over just to that
- 36:02Speaker 4: spot and we've we've got people working on it, but
- 36:07Speaker 4: I'm hoping that we can get it to her, especially
- 36:09Speaker 4: I want to come to Australia, like, yeah, absolutely, the
- 36:12Speaker 4: culture and everything a lot like.
- 36:16Speaker 1: You You're definitely been in. You'll be like, I'm so
- 36:18Speaker 1: not doing that. You're like just like just I'm too
- 36:21Speaker 1: tired and all blah, I'm not doing that. Man.
- 36:25Speaker 3: We're very relaxed, you know. Yeah, And I sid I.
- 36:28Speaker 1: Live in a beautiful part of Australia as well, in
- 36:30Speaker 1: the East Coast and no far from Barron Bay, and
- 36:33Speaker 1: it's I have everything in my fingertips.
- 36:35Speaker 3: And in the best part of the world. I know this,
- 36:37Speaker 3: Like I'm cool, I'm I'm happy in my fator. It's
- 36:41Speaker 3: I feel very blessed.
- 36:42Speaker 1: But yeah, no, down Under, we we yeah, well we
- 36:47Speaker 1: let anyone in.
- 36:51Speaker 3: Nod that's a controversial right here at the moment. It
- 36:53Speaker 3: gives got into the politics.
- 36:56Speaker 1: But yeah, no, we love our our US visitors down
- 37:02Speaker 1: here and bring their music into it for sure.
- 37:04Speaker 3: And we've got to graub We're still live music. It's
- 37:07Speaker 3: it's it's still a lot going on.
- 37:08Speaker 1: It's it's far from being open and done with, and
- 37:11Speaker 1: it's kind of nice to see the new stuff come about.
- 37:14Speaker 3: Yeah, and and you know being.
- 37:16Speaker 1: The thing I love too is like all the awesome
- 37:19Speaker 1: bands when I was a bit younger, they're all re
- 37:21Speaker 1: touring again now. So I'm just like my rust is
- 37:23Speaker 1: ball and it's just like every weekend I was like,
- 37:27Speaker 1: it's dry, I'm reliving myne we spent youths again.
- 37:33Speaker 2: It's been great.
- 37:34Speaker 4: Yeah, Like I mean, especially the Creed you know, there's.
- 37:39Speaker 3: Coming back out. So I was seeing those when I
- 37:41Speaker 3: was like eighteen, and they're really good. I don't know
- 37:43Speaker 3: what to be doing and now and then, but.
- 37:44Speaker 1: I'm like keen to see them again to sort of
- 37:47Speaker 1: trip back down memory lane.
- 37:49Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, absolutely, it was. It was fun to see
- 37:51Speaker 4: them performing. I mean, I really love Mark Tremonti. His
- 37:55Speaker 4: guitar work is is just so iconic in a way.
- 37:58Speaker 4: There's nobody else who really sounds like yeah, so great
- 38:02Speaker 4: to see him going and doing you know, at least,
- 38:05Speaker 4: you know, more stuff because I love hearing him play.
- 38:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:10Speaker 1: Yeah, no, they they're good and they've got some of
- 38:12Speaker 1: that stuff is like the old news. Old stuff is
- 38:15Speaker 1: sound nothing like the new stuff.
- 38:16Speaker 3: And I like that.
- 38:17Speaker 1: It's it just doesn't sound like the same minus and
- 38:21Speaker 1: that that growth and that ability to expand you sound
- 38:24Speaker 1: is it's always good post He's he's one of that's
- 38:28Speaker 1: really good at doing that. Like, no two posting songs
- 38:30Speaker 1: sounds like the other and didn't listening to the same artists.
- 38:34Speaker 3: It's yeah, it's good and that's sound absolutely good way
- 38:39Speaker 3: to when you listenership for sure. But yeah, so it
- 38:43Speaker 3: sounds like.
- 38:43Speaker 1: You're gonna be busy, so I think after that you
- 38:46Speaker 1: might have a have to have a bit of a
- 38:47Speaker 1: nap before you come down under.
- 38:49Speaker 3: It's a bit of a playing sleep on the way over.
- 38:55Speaker 3: That's what I say when I'm dead.
