- 0:10If you've been sleeping on Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons, here's what's up.
- 0:14You might recognize Phil's name as the guitarist for the Mighty Motorhead. After
- 0:18the death of iconic frontman Lammy in twenty fifteen, Phil Campbell and the Bastard
- 0:23Sons emerged, comprised of Phil's actual sons Todd, Dane and Tyler, originally
- 0:29with Neil Starr on vocal duties. They now have Joel Peters as their singer
- 0:32and a permanent member, and they've just released their third studio album, Kings
- 0:36of the Asylum. I'm as and Today on the Heavy Podcast, I will
- 0:40be speaking with Todd Campbell about the new album and what it's like to be
- 0:44a part of Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons. Check it out. Shock
- 0:51Hi, Todd's, Welcome to the Heavy Podcast. How is your Friday treating
- 0:56you really good? We played our album release show last night in a club
- 1:02in the valley in the in the Welsh Valleys, so it went really well.
- 1:06So I'm on a bit of a high this morning from that. How
- 1:08long does the performance dopamine normally last for you? Before you set it's a
- 1:14nightmare trying to get to sleep normally, that's always a problem, like two
- 1:18in the morning, like can I can I just switch off and our sort
- 1:21of thing. But yeah, and then I don't know. We're going to
- 1:26go to the me and my little dog to the beach this weekend, so
- 1:27I think I'm just going to carry her on through sort of thing, trying
- 1:32to have to continue the dopamine. Yeah, yeah, good vibes. Yeah,
- 1:37the album's been out for is it's just six days now? I guess
- 1:42today's the week? I guess, yeah, Friday, Yeah, seven days
- 1:45today. Yeah, So whereabouts was the launch show? In a club called
- 1:49The Patriots in a town called Krummlin. It's just we were we went to
- 1:56see Sherry Curry from The Runaways there a few months ago. It's yeah,
- 2:01and like Phil's friends with it and we sort of like hang out and stuff,
- 2:04and we've just been really cool to like play a venue we've never played,
- 2:08you know, just fill it out sort of thing, and like and
- 2:12I think they're like a community based venue as well sort of thing. So
- 2:15it's like waiting for the community. So yeah, it's kind of cool to
- 2:16kind of do that and have a warm up show with play some new songs
- 2:21we've never played before. It's always a bit of a bit nerve racking.
- 2:24Yeah. Yeah, so everyone last night was essentially guinea pigs to a degree.
- 2:30Yeah we didn't didn't tell them that, but yet you never do.
- 2:35Well, we've got you on board tonight to give us the low down on
- 2:38your band, Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons, of which you are one
- 2:43of. Said bastard sons yea, more specifically the bastard son in charge of
- 2:49guitar. Yeah, and yeah, like we said, you've just released an
- 2:52album which we'll get into, but would you first mind giving the listeners a
- 2:58quick rundown on the bar and just for anyone who might be slightly behind the
- 3:01eight bowl on who you guys are and what you're about. Yeah, well,
- 3:06I guess Phil was obviously the guitarist of like Motorhead for a long long
- 3:12time. And yeah, and we used to jam with even from like really
- 3:16young when he'd come out and he'd play pubs with his mates, and like
- 3:20we'd go up on stage and jam sort of thing, like me and my
- 3:23two other brothers, Dane and Tyler. And then a few years I guess
- 3:27before Lenny passed, we started playing still doing like covers. Most seriously,
- 3:30there was like a party band sort of thing, like doing a little mini
- 3:34tours like we would call like the All Star band at that point. And
- 3:37then and then we just slowly morphed into like the Bastard Sons doing original material
- 3:43and like it's just like a good outlet for Phil now that he you know,
- 3:46he doesn't have motor heads, and we do it as a family thing,
- 3:50and like, you know, it's we're really busy. We play all
- 3:53the festivals in Europe and things, and like we're on nuclear blast. It's
- 3:57just it's gone like way further than we ever imagined to be honest sort of
- 4:00thing. But we're just riding the vibe, I guess, and enjoy enjoying
- 4:03ourselves and just trying to make the best music we can sort of thing.
- 4:08So you never set out to sort of conquer the world. It was more
- 4:11about just making music for the joy of it. But it organically sort of
- 4:15built up and it's like a family, yeah, family business sort of thing
- 4:18now that we're all I wanted to ask about that. No, I wasn't
- 4:25sure whether I should excuse myself for using the term of family band. No,
- 4:30it's cool. Yeah, how does it go? Do you find that
- 4:31it makes things easier or is it more chaotic or does that just depend on
- 4:36the day. Yeah, it definitely depends on the day. I mean,
- 4:40it's like it's like going on a family holiday, like every week, every
- 4:45day, like every you know, those crazy family holidays, like every festival
- 4:49is like one of those sort of things. But I think actually eventually it's
- 4:53loads of times. I think like you kind of a grievances quicker because it's
- 4:58your family than like I've been in lots of bands and like, you know,
- 5:00if there's like an issue, sometimes you won't you know, you won't
- 5:03bring it up perhaps and then three weeks later it blows up into some sort
- 5:08of mess. But like if it's your family, and like say say I
- 5:11played shipped or someone played you know, and he'd be like, oh you
- 5:14were craped tonight, and they're like, well you were crap as well,
- 5:15and then you're like next day you just carry on with it, jo Iman.
- 5:19You have your little TIFFs, but like I think from the outside,
- 5:23people looking and it's like what's going on you But it's just like you know,
- 5:25brothers are having a little brotherly rawl orever and then the next day you
- 5:29just move on just like you know, Yes, so effectively it would it
- 5:32sounds like it would make things easier. Then, yeah, I think it
- 5:35might not look like that sometimes if you're on the outside. But yeah,
- 5:41it's just you know, you know, so, yeah, it's all good,
- 5:44all you know, functional chaos. Yeah. Yeah. So obviously,
- 5:49after what thirty something years of a career in motorhead, your dad Phil is
- 5:55a veteran of the industry, and so I imagine that makes him a well
- 6:00of knowledge and a really handy person to have to be in a bandwidth and
- 6:04you know, he's got tons of experience under his belt and connections and whatnot.
- 6:09But what are some of the things that the bastard sons have had to
- 6:14school him on? Oh, I don't know, playing small venues again,
- 6:23you're playing clubs now, bring him down a peg or two. Yeah.
- 6:26Yeah, it's like, oh, we've gotta fly, we gotta fly easy
- 6:28Jet this weekend, first class anymore. I haven't had to teach him how
- 6:34to use TikTok or anything like that. Oh no, you know, we
- 6:38we do. We do a bit of Facebook and bit of Instagram, we
- 6:42haven't quite gone over to the TikTok generation yet. I think we're all right.
- 6:46Yeah, he doesn't like we do little videos. I don't think any
- 6:49of us feel lack comfortable doing videos, but it's like you have to do
- 6:54it nowadays, a new sort of thing. Yeah, it's the nature of
- 6:57the beast. Yeah, yeah, yess, little things like that. I
- 7:00mean, he's, you know, he's pretty down to earth guy, like
- 7:03my dad. He's you know, he's not like I saying this to someone
- 7:06else, like people think like we're like the Osbournes or something, craazy Jeremy,
- 7:10But we just live in a little like Valleys town in South Wales sort
- 7:14of thing. J I mean, like, but from the band, like
- 7:16the rest of it is normalish, I guess you know what I mean.
- 7:21So yeah, yeah, it's just you just you just chills in the dress
- 7:25room. Do you have pot noodles? Like we just eat pot noodles and
- 7:29TV and just like whatever. Whatever. It's not like check drugs and rock
- 7:32and roll with us. Yeah, it's pretty basic pot noodles rock and roll.
- 7:39Yeah. Well, actually, when I was formulating my list of questions
- 7:46for you tonight, my husband was like, you gotta ask, you know
- 7:48what, what was it like being the son of someone who is in a
- 7:53band with God. I don't know if I can get away with that question.
- 7:59I'll have to start it out. But I feel like I can get
- 8:01away with that. Yeah, it's fine and it's cool. I mean,
- 8:05when I was really young, I think I didn't like I used to go
- 8:09and see him play when I was really young, but I don't think I
- 8:13quite understood it. And then yeah, and then you're like all my friends
- 8:16like Dad's are like home all the time, and then my Dad's like away,
- 8:20what's going on? Like you know, I'm like five or six,
- 8:22don't quite understand it. But then as you get like as a bit older,
- 8:26I think, like me and my friends are going in rock music.
- 8:30And then all of a sudden, like like when Nirvana fans, and then
- 8:33all of a sudden, Dave Grohl does that Probot song with Lemmy and you're
- 8:37like, you get the crossover, d I mean, and then all of
- 8:39a sudden, motor Heads do like WrestleMania, and I was into wrestling as
- 8:43like, you know, send you like my dad's playing WrestleMania with like what's
- 8:48going on? And then it's like, oh, this is really cool.
- 8:50Actually the penny drops and you realize what you're involved with. Yeah, yeah,
- 8:54and you know, yeah, like I don't take any of it for
- 8:58granted. Who were like super lucky I said, We live like like normal
- 9:01sort of lives, But then we do get we did have super cool opportunities
- 9:05to like go to really cool gigs and you know, things like that.
- 9:09So it's just been you know, it's there's tough times. You know,
- 9:13we spent a long time with you know, your dad on the road sort
- 9:16of thing and away from home, but then you know, we're so lucky
- 9:18that we've you know, enjoyed this life. We enjoy sort of things.
- 9:22So it's a hard question to ask because I don't. I can't really,
- 9:26I've got nothing else to like go, you know, balance, it's just
- 9:30the way we've grown up sort of thing. Yeah, So I don't really
- 9:33know any of it. It's your normal. So yeah, yeah, I
- 9:37don't think it's probably probably like I said, I think people think we like
- 9:41the Osborne's or whatever, but it's just like nothing, nothing like that.
- 9:43I hope. Yeah, yeah, that that's next level, but yeah,
- 9:48exactly, it's nothing. Yeah, so tell me about the new album then,
- 9:52which is titled Kings of the Asylum. What can listeners expect from this
- 9:56record? I think everyone thinks it's hard is you just try and make the
- 10:01best album you can make, and then you put it out and hope for
- 10:03the best. It's like, I think it's a little heavier, it's a
- 10:07little more like we've kind of like more I think our last few albums just
- 10:13the sounds kind of like jumped, not genre de genre because it's all like
- 10:16guitar music, but sort of like but I think this one feels like a
- 10:20we've made a body of work sort of do you know what I mean?
- 10:24We've made like an album more than just a collection of songs. So it's
- 10:28gone done really well with the fan base and like people seeing it's our first
- 10:31one with Joel on vocals and new vocalists, so that's been like a you
- 10:35know, a new thing for everyone to check out. And I'm just really
- 10:39pleased with it. Once again, you're so close. It's hard. You've
- 10:43just got a letter of other people decide what they think, do you know
- 10:46what I mean? We work worked really hard and then just it's out for
- 10:50everyone else to decide. I guess. Yeah, once something's released, I
- 10:54think it's it sort of doesn't it becomes other people's property then like you create
- 10:58it your birth and you put it out in the world, and then yeah,
- 11:03then it's sort of up to up to the people. But how have
- 11:07you found the reception to Joel's inclusion in the band? Then? Amazing?
- 11:11Amazing. Yeah, changing vocalists can really alter the sound of a band more
- 11:18so than other instruments, and yeah, so it's always interesting to see how
- 11:24that will be received by by fans. Yeah, I think like with us,
- 11:28obviously we've sort of like grown up. Like I guess most bands,
- 11:33you like, you know, you're not know nor your album's not while you're
- 11:35still becoming a band, so maybe like members change, but sort of we've
- 11:39kind of been doing that, but slightly more publicly, if that sense.
- 11:43I mean, because we're like we're sort of like a work in progress,
- 11:48but like sort of while everyone's coming too shows and listening to album sort of
- 11:52thing. But yeah, it just felt really natural with Joel. The fans
- 11:56are really taken to him and everything and full steamer head. Basically, I
- 12:01can't say much much more than his vocal style really suits the music. Yeah,
- 12:07Yeah, it's great. First first time he sent us like a demo
- 12:09over and I was like, yeah, that's the guys, So it's great.
- 12:11That's always a nice feeling. So what sort of approach do you guys
- 12:16take to songwriting? Is there like one main person that sort of sits in
- 12:20the driver's seat or is it a combined effort. I produced the I've produced
- 12:26last two albums, so the boy the boys would probably say, I'm like
- 12:31the drive in the driving seats of the street. But I think this the
- 12:35most this most recent album is the one we've most like collect. I think
- 12:39before I'd have like a lot of songs prepared and then we'd work on them,
- 12:41but this is the first time he sort of were more in the room,
- 12:45let's just write and go. We would like we sort of wrote and
- 12:48recorded on a week by week basis, which never done before. So like
- 12:52we'd write a song or two on a Monday, and then we just start
- 12:54recording it Tuesday, and then the drums, and then Wednesday we'd do the
- 12:58guitars, and Thursday and then we'd have like two or three songs then and
- 13:01then the Monday we'd start again, like sort of and we did that for
- 13:05about five or six weeks, and we've never done it like that before.
- 13:09Actually, it was just kind of cool. We normally we're just like,
- 13:11you know, rehearsed and rehearsed and then our years asked ten songs, going
- 13:13to studio and bash it up. So it was more we could we could
- 13:18feel the album building and like we could kind of you know, do we
- 13:20need this kind of song? Do we need that kind of song? So
- 13:24I think it was a really good you know, I would definitely do it
- 13:26that way again. I think if if we get the choice or know,
- 13:30it sounds super productive. Oh yeah, yeah, it's cool because you can
- 13:33like you're bouncing because you know, you've got a weekend off, you've got
- 13:35a new fresh songs, and you go in again. Ja. I mean
- 13:39you just it was just sort of just kept rolling once we once we were
- 13:41on a role basically, Yeah, did you find as well that it helped
- 13:46you not settle so much, but like not feel as inclined to tinker with
- 13:52songs to the point of headaches? Because yes, well I think Phil is
- 13:56obviously with Motrail, there was quite an instinctual thing once they were like,
- 14:01I think they would never like over analyze a song or you know, if
- 14:05it felt good and you're jamming it, just put it to tape and get
- 14:09it down and you know what I mean. So I think kind of took
- 14:11that sort of especially because we were literally right in and then recording the next
- 14:15year and the next day just listened to a super rough in the house and
- 14:18then the next morning, I have a little tweak, we'd try it and
- 14:20then we'd just put it down and then you know the odd structure with pro
- 14:24tools wherever you can move things around a little bit. But I don't think
- 14:28we did a lot of that really, And yeah, I really like working
- 14:31that way this time around. I think it's really made a difference for us.
- 14:35Yeah, that's that's really cool. I'm in a band myself, and
- 14:37I like we've had we've had some songs that we've spent I'm not even joking
- 14:43two years writing one song and you know, like we just have to put
- 14:48it on the shelf and then come back to it again, and like they've
- 14:52all turned out to be worth sticking with. But I just I love that
- 14:58idea that you go in and yeah, sort of just not bash it out,
- 15:03but you've got this structure the formula is there and it's rock and roll
- 15:09in it. Like you know, everyone has their own process if it takes
- 15:11two years, and you know, that's cool if it takes two years.
- 15:13But like you know, we're just how different will we make it if we
- 15:18keep changing? You know, we're just playing riffs and you know, just
- 15:22trying to capture a bit of energy and just going from there. For us,
- 15:24that's all right, and sometimes you can give yourself a bit of choice
- 15:28paralysis if you overthink it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Having
- 15:33said that, we've definitely written songs in like an afternoon, We're not We're
- 15:37not that useless that it takes two years for every song were write, just
- 15:39just for the record. What sort of themes are explored lyrically on this album?
- 15:46Yeah, Like obviously like Joel's the lyric right, but I think Kingsley
- 15:50Asylum was a song he like penned quite early with the title. I think
- 15:56we were actually we would so like in our break recording, we would like
- 16:00put on the news and like in the UK and it's still terrible now where
- 16:03it was all that kind of like Boris Johnson stuff was in the news all
- 16:07the time, and like I think we would Phil would come up with like
- 16:10quite funny, funny like working titles, and we'd send them to Joel,
- 16:15maybe a bit like taking the Michael out of the Government or whatever. And
- 16:18then I think Joel wrote Kings the Asylum around that, and then when he
- 16:22sent it back, it was like, oh, that's a great album title.
- 16:25So I think from there we had sort of like we had sort of
- 16:30like it's not a concept album, but just a theme for the album.
- 16:33And I think, you know, the Asylum, like that song is probably
- 16:37more based about the country being an asylum and how it's run. But like
- 16:41I think there's other songs where the Asylum is like your mind's more sort of
- 16:44you I mean, it's it's like the asylum's like a metaphor for a few
- 16:47things in the album. Yes, so that makes sense, probably a bit
- 16:49bit deep for a rock band, but like you know, it's certainly in
- 16:52there. But if you go like I think walking in Circles for the first
- 16:56track is like kind of losing your mind, and then too much in enough
- 17:00second track is like access on the Road, yes, and then and then
- 17:03it kind of it goes up and down in waves like that sort of thing.
- 17:07So it is. It's kind of a theme in there, if you
- 17:10like look deeply into a loose theme. Yeah, no, I like that.
- 17:14Actually I usually leave my fun silly question until the end, but I'm
- 17:18gonna ask it now just because you're talking about the album and and I structured
- 17:25my question on the album title Kings of the Asylum, and I couldn't help
- 17:30it be conjured up like images of Randall McMurphy and the film One flow over
- 17:36the cookies nest. Now, I don't know if you've seen it. I've
- 17:38not seen that film, though I love cinema. It's a classic. You
- 17:41have to see it, okay, yeah, if you if you're even just
- 17:47loosely familiar with the concept. It is a man that ends up in a
- 17:52lunatic asylum. This the movie was made made in seventies, I think,
- 17:55so it's an old film. Jack Nicholson plays the main character. Of course,
- 18:00to see you then, yeah, yeah, yeah, it's amazing.
- 18:02It's one of my favorite films. But yeah, he ends up there.
- 18:04He's not insane, but he I don't I won't give you too many spoilers,
- 18:08but it made me think of that. And my question was, what
- 18:15would you guys do to end up in an asylum, and who in the
- 18:19band is most likely to wise crack his way into getting lobotomized. Oh my
- 18:26god, question, I love throwing these curly ones. My dad in his
- 18:33crazy days easily could end up in asylum. He probably hasn't hasn't told me
- 18:37about it. Well, you know the time frame as well, when they
- 18:42were still the asylums were still running. Oh man, When when people show
- 18:48up at our gigs and we haven't seen them before and they're like, oh,
- 18:51I've got a story to tell you, We're like, oh, I
- 18:52don't know if story. I mean dad looked at each other, like,
- 18:57but I guess yeah, A pin pin fill for all of those answers.
- 19:07That sounds entirely fair, I think. So, you guys have been super
- 19:12busy with your summer festival circuit over over your way recently and you've played some
- 19:19huge festivals. How was how was that experience? Oh, I mean it's
- 19:25it has been the last two the summer so not this summer. Summer before
- 19:29was like all your book ins like from three like canceled COVID summers just in
- 19:33one almost. So last summer was just absolutely crazy and then this we thought
- 19:40they would calm down this summer, but it hasn't to be, to be
- 19:41honest. So yeah, we do like and we do like motor headsets occasionally
- 19:48as well, which is like because sometimes you know, summer festivals, guys
- 19:52drinking beers, you know, they just want to hear sometimes the songs they
- 19:55know and just have a good times. So like we fit that in in
- 19:57the summer and I think people react well to it. And then when we
- 20:00do our own tours is more our own material and things. So yeah,
- 20:04it's been really good, really busy. There's just loads of like flights and
- 20:10things. Like last summer was crazy as well because it was like COVID just
- 20:14comes. Everyone was just going on holidays all over all over Europe, and
- 20:18like I don't think that like the aviation industry had really got back on his
- 20:22feet last summer, so like we'd be in like Amsterdam airport for like three
- 20:26hour cues and things just for security and stuff like yeah, like are we
- 20:30even going to make this gig no pressure or anything? Which festival has been
- 20:40the highlight for you? Oh? I don't know. I just the bigger
- 20:45the better, I just I'm just up for it as soon as I just
- 20:48see like a massive crowd. I'm like, yeah, let's just do this.
- 20:51We've done this summer. We did two supporting Guns and Roses. Yeah,
- 20:55yeah, I saw that. The first one was just well, no,
- 20:57they're both. I just love it. Yeah, I just the bigger
- 21:00the crowds just the betters for me. I'm just like, if I can
- 21:03run around them wherever, I'm up for this. And I love small shows
- 21:07as well, but like I don't get intimidated by the big ones and just
- 21:11whatever. I just enjoy them all to be honest. Yeah, And festival
- 21:14crowds are a vibe of their own, aren't they, Like, especially summertime,
- 21:18and everyone's just everyone's riding the good, good vibe wave. Yeah,
- 21:22describe for me what behind the scenes at a festival is like for you,
- 21:26because obviously festival sets are typically fairly short. Yeah, so what do you
- 21:32guys get up to either side? I'd love to tell you like exciting stuff,
- 21:36but we still like just make something up. We just we like work
- 21:40because we still like we'll be on our hands and knees, like taping cables
- 21:44down. And this is weird for us because like we got like a small
- 21:48crew, but we still like get involved and we do our own line checks,
- 21:51and then we go backstage and then we grow jackets on and you have
- 21:53to like walk out like you were never you know, like most men just
- 21:56walk out like yeah, it's like we were literally here ten minutes ago,
- 22:00just like one one to check kind of thing. I just put my hat
- 22:06on back, so like, yeah, for us, it's just like my
- 22:10brother's taking the merch to the mercht All and it's on the phone trying to
- 22:14arrange things because like, yeah, that's what it's like for us. It's
- 22:17just chaos for us. And then normally it's back in the van to an
- 22:21airport to another one. So I'm afraid, and I'm the photographer for the
- 22:26band as well, and I'm taking photos and everyone's just like tired. I
- 22:30mean, I completely understand you. I'm that person as well, Waven waving
- 22:34the camera and everyone's friend. They don't say that, yeah, they don't
- 22:40say, but you can tell. It's like it's like, come on.
- 22:45I think a lot of people are quite unaware of how much most bands do
- 22:51themselves. Yeah, especially nowadays. Yeah, yeah, yeah, you know
- 22:55they're not. It's not like, yeah, the curtain drops, you have
- 22:57to hit a really highlight able to like not have to do anything apart from
- 23:02player instruments. Yeah, absolutely, and I wouldn't we I don't know if
- 23:06i'd want that either, because I quite like the hands on aspect of I
- 23:11don't know, a little taste of a maybe a little bit of pressure off
- 23:15or have some lackeys just to jump in when you need them or something.
- 23:18Yeah. Yeah, Well that's coming from someone who's never going to reach those
- 23:23heights. So I suppose in denial and just go no. I like it
- 23:27this way. You never you never know, you don't you don't know what
- 23:32this is, what's gonna happen in this world? You never know. Well,
- 23:34very very true. So what plans, what further plans have you got
- 23:38for to ring this new album? Is Australia on the cards. It's a
- 23:42tough one. We we get we do get a few offers, but it's
- 23:47a little it's quite far for us. I think. I think if we
- 23:49ever get like need like a festival to sort of and a good festival offer,
- 23:56we could do something else. I'd love to I'd love to come to
- 23:57Australia and and then like Japan and things we've never done it like fills done
- 24:03it, but as a band, we've never done it, so we always
- 24:06would love to do it, but obviously with the expense we need sort of
- 24:08the right offered and like people, we get messages all the time when you
- 24:11come into Australia. It's really frustrated. And obviously I assume everyone loves the
- 24:15rock and roll still in Australia, hope, absolutely. Yeah, so you
- 24:21know, it'd be great to do it. Hopefully one day we'll do it,
- 24:23but it's not bucked in at the moment. It's just such a shame
- 24:27the price. It's the price we pay for being at the ass whole end
- 24:30of the world. Let's well, we're at the other end. Well,
- 24:36where are you touring in the immediate future? So yeah, I think it's
- 24:40like twelve days time. We're going to Europe for about three weeks and then
- 24:44we're home for like a month, and then we're doing a UK tour and
- 24:47then I'm not sure. After that, I think probably start writing again next
- 24:51year and festival season and do it all again. I would have thought,
- 24:55but let's see what comes in. I'm not sure yet. I'm gonna ask
- 24:59you a really shade question, but do you have a preference for writing,
- 25:03recording, or performing. That's a good question. Studio is really good when
- 25:07the riffs start coming together, is a nice feeling. And then obviously you
- 25:11get to just go home as well as being away from home. So yeah,
- 25:15I think you know everything, like it's like a cycle in there.
- 25:21You're gonna have one with that. Like we couldn't keep touring not release music,
- 25:23and then we couldn't release music and never tour it. I think people
- 25:26would get tired of that of it, you know. So I think you
- 25:30just you need a balance of both. Really enjoy all of it. I
- 25:33enjoy it because with my photography, enjoy traveling and taking photos and and things.
- 25:40So yeah, sorry, as I gave you a bit of it on
- 25:42the fence answer to that one, I gave you a clicheed question, so
- 25:48it's fair. So obviously your dad was famously part of Motorhead, But what
- 25:53were you doing before you were part of the bastard Sons? I mean you
- 25:56were obviously a bastard son. But yeah, yeah, well we're not.
- 26:02None of us are bastard sons. Mom and dad live up the road sort
- 26:04of thing. We're all like stop, don't, don't ruin the allusion brothers
- 26:08to the same mother, as we like to say, Bastards by nature and
- 26:15not by lineage. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, I've run a recording
- 26:19studios. It's like my mid twenty sort of thing. So that was always
- 26:22my main sort of job, and now I just balanced the two. It's
- 26:26really good actually, because in tour and then come home and work with locals,
- 26:30like local bands I work with mainly and things like that. Yeah.
- 26:33And then we used to have a band, me and Dane, my brother
- 26:37Dramma. We were in another bank called Straight Lines. We used to do
- 26:40a lot of like touring in the UK and stuff things like that, so
- 26:44you know, we're always involved with that sort of thing, and yet and
- 26:47things just sort of evolved and moved and then we ended up being in the
- 26:51Bastards pretty actually, Yeah, smashing through all the European festivals, trying our
- 26:56best. Yeah yeah, live the dream. Yeah yeah, I can I
- 27:02can't argue. That's awesome. Well, I've just received the little notification that
- 27:07our time is running out, so and you've probably got another another interview to
- 27:11get I do have another one coming out, but what's the time now,
- 27:15don't ask me what the time is because it's eight o'clock at night here,
- 27:18so that's going to throw you right out. Yeah, it's a long interview.
- 27:26Oh we get hope that was okay anyway, and I made sense.
- 27:30No, it's brilliant. No, No, I love someone I can banter
- 27:33with. I was listening to because I only got throwing this this assignment at
- 27:38twenty four hours ago, and so I was listening to the album this morning
- 27:44while I was cleaning my house, and yeah, I love it. It's
- 27:45super good. Probably a good one for cleaning, I would have thought,
- 27:48Yeah, yeah, yeah, I got it done, probably in half the
- 27:51time that I would have We'll put that on the sticker next time, on
- 27:56the front of the music to clean to. That could be the title of
- 28:03your next album. Oh my god, you never know, never know.
- 28:08Alrighty, well, I'll let you get onto your next one. Thank you
- 28:11so much for giving giving me your time, and yeah, all the best
- 28:15with the album and it's success and your upcoming to us. Oh, thank
- 28:19you. Hopefully we'll be over to Australia one day. Fingers crossed. Take
- 28:23care, Todd. Thank you. Nice to meet you anyway, but make
- 28:33sure you check out Kings of the Asylum, the latest album by Phil Campbell
