- 0:04Let me you hear i got something you need to hear turn the volume up so it's
- 0:09loud and clear a podcast where we talk about politics and culture unscripted
- 0:13no limits like a 504 soldier we're not pretenders ain't no agendas our only
- 0:18plan is to keep it 100 and do it for the fam yeah,
- 0:24What up, what up, what up? What's going on?
- 0:28Same old saying. Six mil, keeping it trill. It's your boy KG.
- 0:33What's good, brother? How you feeling?
- 0:35Good, man. It's not as hot as it's been. Weather's starting to get to my favorite part of the season.
- 0:40That's probably just because it was my birthday season, so, you know.
- 0:44No, I like fall as well. We get a little bit of everything during the fall.
- 0:49You know, the day start off, it's pretty cool out.
- 0:52Mm hmm. Then as the day progresses in the afternoon, it gets kind of warm and pleasant.
- 0:57And then that night is cool again. So, you know, you can sleep comfortably and
- 1:01all of that at night. No one just opened the windows.
- 1:03Man, I thought I had to turn the heat on and I had to check myself.
- 1:07I'm not turning this heat on in the first part.
- 1:13Ain't no way. I was like, look at all the long sleeve shirt or grab a different
- 1:17comforter. Right, right, right.
- 1:19No, it's all good. But I feel, you know. I feel you like, no,
- 1:23it's too early to turn on the heat.
- 1:25No, I agree with you. So what's on your mind, bro? What you want to talk about today?
- 1:30So today we want to visit heroes. All right. And what I mean by that is heroes
- 1:35for the black and brown community. Okay.
- 1:38And how we're lacking modern day heroes. And we'll go into detail on what we mean by the word hero.
- 1:46All right, cool. You want to just jump right into it?
- 1:50Yeah, why not? All right, man, let's go ahead and jump into it,
- 1:54man. Let's talk about these heroes, bro.
- 1:57So, no, go ahead, go ahead. No, no, go ahead.
- 2:00So, I just want to say, like,
- 2:03When I say hero, I'm thinking in terms of, and it doesn't have to be one singular hero.
- 2:13And I don't mean like a Marvel hero, even though it would be great if we could
- 2:18have T'Challa come touch a couple people up and then give them an intellectual beat down as well.
- 2:24But no, I'm meaning like in terms of an MLK, a Malcolm X, Mega Evers, Stokely Carmichael,
- 2:37you know, someone who's going to be a voice, even Jesse Jackson,
- 2:41I guess you can throw in there during the 80s, early 90s.
- 2:44You know, someone who's going to be that voice for the black community that
- 2:50everyone kind of respects.
- 2:53And I know that those guys had their adversaries as well.
- 2:56But for the most part, generally speaking, those guys were considered heroes.
- 3:02And I'm of the mind that heroes aren't born.
- 3:09Heroes are created by the times.
- 3:12And in these current times, we most certainly need a hero.
- 3:19So I think one of the biggest differences, like you just said,
- 3:25of the times, you know, you had the differences between the three.
- 3:28Omega Evers was more grassroots, did a lot of fighting of the system itself.
- 3:34He wasn't loud. He wasn't boisterous. He did it quietly. He was effective, but he did it quietly.
- 3:40And obviously it cost him his life. Sure. You know, Martin being a pastor.
- 3:45Organizing mass movements, getting people involved. And then,
- 3:49you know, you take it with Malcolm X, militant, unapologetic.
- 3:53He was more of the pride and self-determination, similar to Stokely Carmichael,
- 3:59you know, who obviously coined the term black power.
- 4:05And he was vilified for that as well. But it's no one has really stepped.
- 4:12And I know that that some people may take offense to that. Some of the people
- 4:15that have stepped up and tried to help. Sure.
- 4:17But back in those times, they didn't care what the consequences were.
- 4:23That's courage. I don't care if I get arrested. Martin Luther King was arrested
- 4:28three thousand times. Right.
- 4:30He didn't care about going to jail, sitting in jail. It was about the mission.
- 4:34Right. The Montgomery bus boycott. What doesn't get talked about enough is we
- 4:39look at that and we go, well, they were successful in a campaign,
- 4:43but what gets left out is they almost bankrupted Montgomery, Alabama.
- 4:49They needed us on those buses. Right.
- 4:54They almost bankrupted the town. Right.
- 4:58Right. Money talks.
- 5:00Money talks. And that goes into, and I know it's not as successful as probably
- 5:08they would have hoped it was, but like the Target ban. Mm-hmm.
- 5:12You know, people sort of were on board, but then there was a large portion of
- 5:17the community that was not on board.
- 5:20So they are still struggling. They are. But what gets left out a lot is I think that us boycottin'.
- 5:29Definitely hurt them a lot. But what a lot of people don't understand is they
- 5:33were already on the decline.
- 5:35Their CEO had already taken a pay cut.
- 5:38And then, of course, it took another one. So us jumping in and doing the boycott hurt them even more.
- 5:44But we won't get credit for that. It'll just be...
- 5:47Now, obviously, we're taking credit for it as a community, but as a whole,
- 5:50they were on a decline in general well
- 5:54uh it it wasn't just and this isn't
- 5:57going to be about the target boycott right um
- 6:00it's just relative to what we're saying at this time it was it was because they
- 6:04were basically canceling the contracts with all of their black vendors oh yeah
- 6:10and that is what like spurred the boycott is just like hold on like right what
- 6:16y'all yeah yeah yeah yeah seriously Like, what are you guys doing?
- 6:19So, so, so, so, yeah, it's, it's just, we,
- 6:22we put it like this to sort of piggyback on what you were saying,
- 6:27that it could be someone out there and maybe it's not a someone,
- 6:32maybe it's someone's, you know,
- 6:37maybe it's, it's not going to be one particular voice.
- 6:41Maybe it's going to be a combination of voices that step up to the plate and stay on point.
- 6:50And like you were saying, don't be afraid of the consequences.
- 6:56If you fight, you can't be afraid to get hit.
- 7:00So the same consequences that existed back then exist now. So I'm confused as
- 7:06a whole. why all of a sudden these consequences, oh, we can't do that. Money. We can't do that.
- 7:13Money. I know you and I have had a conversation at some point in the past where,
- 7:19like with the church, you were raised in the church. I was raised in the church.
- 7:24I remember across the street from the church once a year, that small carnival
- 7:30would come to town by a church.
- 7:33I know the church had influence in that.
- 7:37I remember being down in the basement at the church, in that big old kitchen,
- 7:41cooking meals, people coming to eat. Oh, yeah. Fish and spaghetti.
- 7:46Yeah, the fish and spaghetti. No doubt.
- 7:50I'm not saying that doesn't still happen, because there are churches that I
- 7:54drive by every day where I'll see fish fry this Thursday or whatnot.
- 7:59It just doesn't seem like it's broadcasted and...
- 8:05The community is not as involved. And of course, that's just me saying it feels that way.
- 8:11I mean, it's probably packed at some of these places. No, no.
- 8:14My issue is we can't seem to stay on point as a collector.
- 8:20That's my issue is for whatever reason.
- 8:24And money may be the main motivation for some people not staying on point.
- 8:29And listen, you got bills to pay. You got bills to pay. I understand all of that.
- 8:35But at some point, what's worth fighting for? What are you willing to sacrifice?
- 8:42And I mean, make no mistake about it. We are in a fight.
- 8:46Great again was never for us.
- 8:51It was never intended to benefit minorities or black people.
- 8:57The first time we heard that term, you and I were in elementary school.
- 9:02Ronald Reagan. When that term was first coined.
- 9:05There wasn't as much pushback at that time because you and I both know Nancy Reagan was everywhere.
- 9:13We were kids. Just say no. She was on commercials with Punky Brewster,
- 9:18Arnold, different strokes.
- 9:20You want to tell your Nancy Reagan story? I'm kidding. I'm kidding. I'm kidding.
- 9:28Hey, all you got to do is Google it and see what people say.
- 9:33Oh man my bad bro my bad it's a wild story tell you what if it's true it's it's wild,
- 9:42man my bad sorry i know i know i probably got you way off uh topic now but like
- 9:49with jesse jackson jesse jackson did a lot when we were growing up his name
- 9:53was everywhere and of course where we grew up i mean jesse jackson's headquarters
- 9:56was right there right 15 20 miles away from us.
- 10:00But it just seems like, now obviously I know he's been sick,
- 10:03but it just seems like it just fell off a cliff real fast.
- 10:08After he stopped running for president, he wasn't as front and center as much as he was previously.
- 10:15And I don't know if funding was cut. I don't know if people stopped organizing.
- 10:20But I think what happened over time is people stopped,
- 10:25knocking on doors, and they started fighting from inside, and I'm using air
- 10:30quotes, fighting from inside at the table.
- 10:33Like they grabbed a chair and pulled up to somebody else's table.
- 10:38We stopped trying to create our own table, our own chairs.
- 10:42We grabbed their chairs, set at their tables, and we left the grassroots organizing
- 10:48that helped us so much get to the point of the civil rights.
- 10:53So it's it's just saying
- 10:56and again it's just us talking you know
- 10:59i'm sure there's somebody out there fighting hard right now it
- 11:03just doesn't feel the same well again a hero is created by the times i think
- 11:11the decline in jesse's presence had a lot to do with we kind of just didn't need him at that time.
- 11:21I mean, even though we had the drug epidemic in the early 90s,
- 11:26we had the crack epidemic, excuse me, y'all, but things were kind of good.
- 11:33People were seeing progress. People were actually experiencing some upward mobility. Absolutely.
- 11:41So there wasn't quite the need for Jesse or Reverend Al to be out there,
- 11:49you know, screaming from the rooftops, even though things weren't still on equal footing.
- 11:54It's like, kind of doing okay, bro. I know our parents growing up, we were good. Facts.
- 12:01So, you know, not saying that it's right, not saying that it's wrong,
- 12:06but the sense of urgency wasn't there.
- 12:11And it sort of continued.
- 12:14The way up until now in my opinion
- 12:17so they say history repeats itself
- 12:20it's a circular what do
- 12:23they call it time loop whatever now it's time now now we've we've we've reached
- 12:30that moment again in time where it's time for us to start screaming from the
- 12:36rooftops again because if we don't who knows what this fool is going to do.
- 12:42You know what I'm saying? And I ain't going back.
- 12:45Nope. I'm just saying.
- 12:48I ain't that wrong. Come try it. I ain't going back.
- 12:52So whatever ideas you got in your head, it ain't going to work.
- 12:56Now, I'll offer you a quick solution.
- 12:59Give us our reparations, especially since you just gave Argentina $20 billion.
- 13:05Quit telling us you don't have the money, give us our reparations,
- 13:09and give us our own plot of land somewhere, and we'll be gone.
- 13:14We'll be out of your hair.
- 13:15Just a simple solution. And don't say you can't do it because history has already
- 13:20shown us that you've already done it several times over.
- 13:25And still paying them. Here's what doesn't make sense with that.
- 13:29I'm glad you brought that up with Argentina, I saw a farmer talking about that.
- 13:36He was on the news and he was sitting in his tractor. Soybean production, right? Yeah. Okay.
- 13:41And he wasn't angry. He wasn't bitter.
- 13:46He was just speaking the truth. And he was laying out how we gave this money.
- 13:52And then China agreed to buy soybeans from Argentina.
- 14:00Now, I know as much as I don't like the guy, but our governor negotiated a deal
- 14:05with China, what, I guess about three, four weeks ago.
- 14:09So over the next five years, they're going to be buying a certain amount from
- 14:12Indiana soybean farmers, which is great.
- 14:15But this dude is sitting here talking about, you put us in a bad situation in
- 14:192017. Then you bailed us out.
- 14:22Get back in office, do the exact same thing again. Yep.
- 14:27And now they're going to have to bail him out again. Yep.
- 14:32Make it make sense. Because there's no plan.
- 14:37It's like you say, you can't run a government with executive orders.
- 14:42Yeah. You have to have a plan. Yeah, yeah.
- 14:45And if you dig deep into the Argentina thing, it's probably some corruption
- 14:50somewhere down the road.
- 14:52So, you know, it's probably some type of kickback, some type of under the table
- 14:57deal that somehow was going to benefit him and his family or someone in the
- 15:04administration in the long run.
- 15:05So let's just keep our eye out for that. I mean, because. Yeah,
- 15:08maybe we'll build him a military base.
- 15:11Well, we'll get to that. We will definitely get to that. So,
- 15:16so yeah, like, like, like we were saying is this isn't a slight at anyone.
- 15:21If you feel like you're being that voice for the black community,
- 15:27please continue to be that voice for the black community or for minorities in general.
- 15:34I mean, I guess I have to include the Hispanic, the Latino community in this.
- 15:39I mean, because they're in a fight for their survival as well.
- 15:42They need another Cesar Chavez. Yeah, for sure. For sure.
- 15:46Yeah, just, you know, stay on point, y'all. I mean, maybe we'll have one,
- 15:53but until we get that one, I think we all need to do our part.
- 15:59We all need to stand up and speak out as a collective and stay on point, y'all. All right.
- 16:07Stay on point. Don't let the petty squabs get in between the larger mission.
- 16:15There will always be distractions and we're never going to see eye to eye on everything.
- 16:22But the main objective, the main goal, we got to stay on point.
- 16:27We have to stay on point if we want to push back. All right.
- 16:31Keep that in mind. I'm going to say something.
- 16:34Teachers nowadays don't, well, of course, we've been talking about teachers
- 16:40not getting enough support since we were younger, but it seems like nowadays
- 16:44it's even worse for teachers. They're being forced to do things they don't want to do.
- 16:49Certain laws have been put in place to stop them, to force them to do this or
- 16:54to do that. But one of the things that, and I'm saying this as someone who has
- 16:59not attended church in a long time, continue to support the local churches.
- 17:04If your local church doesn't have some sort of organization, some sort of.
- 17:09Give backs that they do to community. Go talk to the pastor,
- 17:13work with them, figure something out, collectively raise money together,
- 17:17put functions together for the homeless, put something together like a drive.
- 17:21And of course I know they do the, the coat thing.
- 17:23Uh, people like Aunt Paris locally still do stuff like this, things like that.
- 17:29But those are things that we need to continue to do support the local,
- 17:34you know, churches and community centers and even community organizers,
- 17:38People who are trying to organize, $5 will help them. Right, right.
- 17:44Any little bit helps if they're trying to organize.
- 17:46Any little bit. Any little bit.
- 17:49And maybe if you don't have a monetary donation, just donate a little bit of time.
- 17:56And if you don't have time, then maybe just an attaboy.
- 18:02Sometimes just an attaboy goes a long way. Just let people know we see you.
- 18:06Remember Smokey's mother said, make it enough.
- 18:09Make time. Yeah, I hear you.
- 18:12You got two hours on a Saturday morning or a Sunday afternoon, you know.
- 18:18So, yeah, that's that's pretty much it.
- 18:22All right. Cool, cool, cool. I think we've covered heroism.
- 18:27So let's move into some current events.
- 18:31There has been so much going on in
- 18:34the world since we've last recorded that i
- 18:38feel like we can just do one episode on current events and it would take up
- 18:45an hour probably an hour plus so i'm just going to try and and and touch on
- 18:51man there like i said there's there's so many So I won't go in depth on any of these.
- 18:58I just want to briefly touch on several things.
- 19:01I want to touch on the raids that's happening in Chicago and how ridiculous they are.
- 19:09I mean, we would have laughed if someone told us five years ago that there would
- 19:16be troops on the streets in our main cities in Chicago. I see that they just arrived in Memphis.
- 19:24And it's nuts to me that these fools had a Black Hawk helicopter in the city on the south side.
- 19:35It brings a whole new meaning to the term Chirac.
- 19:40It's crazy. They shot a creature in the head with a rubber bullet. No, it was pepper spray.
- 19:47OK, OK, spray just out there praying. And it's on video. It's on.
- 19:52Yeah, it's on. It's on video.
- 19:54The two officers that got pepper sprayed. Oh, yeah, that was wild.
- 19:58It's like, yeah, what are we doing?
- 20:03What are we doing? And just the way that my mind works, I have to think that
- 20:08at the end of all of this, because this isn't about crime, y'all,
- 20:13this isn't about immigration.
- 20:16So part of me and the cynic that I am has to think that this has something to
- 20:22do with gentrification. nation.
- 20:25When they get all of the people out of the South Side that they don't want,
- 20:30someone's going to move in and develop that land and make it unaffordable.
- 20:35I have to think that that's like the end goal here.
- 20:38Because you can't tell me it's about crime when crime is down.
- 20:41You can't tell me it's about immigration.
- 20:45You're not going after European immigrants. you're
- 20:48not going after Asian immigrants so what
- 20:52is this really about so I just I don't I'm just I'm just not going to accept
- 20:58anything less than the racial component and on the back end I think a financial
- 21:05component with all of this going on also a way to.
- 21:13Keep this fool in power to get that mythological third term that keeps being
- 21:20brought up, which doesn't seem like a myth anymore, is to create all of this
- 21:24chaos and declare a state of emergency,
- 21:28thus canceling elections.
- 21:31Thus the third term.
- 21:34So keep all of that in mind when you
- 21:37see this stuff on the news and there's
- 21:40other things that i really do want to talk about you know i want
- 21:43to talk about the argentina deal i
- 21:47want to talk about which we
- 21:50just said this cutter military
- 21:54base that's supposed to be going in idaho quid pro
- 21:59quo you get a 400 million
- 22:02dollar plane the plane is free yada
- 22:05yada yada yada fast forward plane
- 22:09wasn't free the plane was the payment for
- 22:12the military base it all makes sense now you know what's wild when i saw that
- 22:19i thought to myself this isn't new it's it's it's not new for a foreign military
- 22:27a foreign uh country's military to come here to train.
- 22:32Sure. So I was thinking to myself, okay, well, maybe they're talking about they're coming over here.
- 22:37They're going to stay for a couple of months, fly some F-16s.
- 22:41And then he kept talking.
- 22:43And when he said, we're going to be housing some of their military planes. Say what?
- 22:49They're going to have the capability to take off from here. From here.
- 22:55That's nuts. What if these fools decide to bomb us?
- 22:59Bought and paid for but but here's the crazy part no longer can we say nobody's that crazy,
- 23:09because all we see around us is crazy correct because but you know what's even
- 23:13crazier what was it seven eight years ago where he was talking about how they
- 23:18were like the worst terrorist one of the biggest funders of terrorism or something
- 23:23to that effect yeah what changed Oh, wait.
- 23:27They gave you a plane. He is truly the H.C.I.C.
- 23:33Head clown in charge.
- 23:37I mean, literally, the guy would do anything for money.
- 23:42And I think it's apparent he doesn't give a damn about America.
- 23:47He's not a patriot He is about him and his children and his legacy Everything
- 23:54he does is self-serving If you don't see that now I don't know what it will
- 24:00take to make you recognize it So I'm going to take away a couple of those things you said Him,
- 24:06I don't think he care about it. You don't think he care about his kids?
- 24:12He'll throw his kids under the bus so fast. If it involved more money and staying
- 24:16out of jail or anything like that.
- 24:18No, I'm not saying the man don't love his kids, his grandkids.
- 24:21I'm not saying they don't love him.
- 24:25If you told him tomorrow, we'll put $20 billion in your bank account if you
- 24:30send your wife back to where she came from, she gone.
- 24:33It's crazy. He getting a chart. Matter of fact, he ain't going to charter no
- 24:37jet. He's going to put it on commercial and send it back. It's crazy.
- 24:40The last thing I want to touch on in my current event, did you see the Hakeem Jeffries encounter?
- 24:47Mm-hmm. So him and I want to say it was Mike Lawler, congressman from Utah anyway,
- 24:54tried to confront Hakeem in the halls of Congress.
- 24:59And he kept over talking to him. And Hakeem told him, shut your mouth.
- 25:04And I'm like did they listen to
- 25:07the last podcast did they finally grow
- 25:10a pair like this is the energy that
- 25:13we need quit letting these guys punk
- 25:16you all the time quit trying to be the nice guys if they bring smoke you give
- 25:23them smoke right back yeah check it out though when we finish yeah yeah a king
- 25:28that that New York Bronx came out of him for a minute here's like this the energy we need, bro.
- 25:34But I've never understood any of that. I've never understood.
- 25:37I understand, you know, being professional in the decorum. Sure.
- 25:41I'm not saying put a ring in it. Well, they're gonna do that anyway on the White
- 25:46House lawn. Right, right, right.
- 25:48You know what, man? I just sidetracked. Two things.
- 25:52They're hosting a UFC event this year at the White House. On the lawn,
- 25:57bro. On the lawn. On the lawn.
- 26:00The Oval Office is outfitted with gold.
- 26:06Mm-hmm. You know, I'm gaudy. I was about to say it. Yep.
- 26:11No, remember how back in the 80s and 90s when somebody used to put the chrome
- 26:15around the wheels and on the bottom. The chrome skirts. Yeah.
- 26:20The chrome skirts. And they do it too much and they make the car look tacky.
- 26:23But back then we was like, yo.
- 26:25But now we see it and we just laugh. Mm-hmm. That's what it is. It's a joke. Yeah.
- 26:31Yeah. We are a joke. First of all, it's not your house, bro.
- 26:36This is the people's house.
- 26:38I don't even understand why he doesn't have to go through Congress.
- 26:42OK, you want to take a couple of pictures down, but to do construction,
- 26:46that should be something that is agreed upon by Congress and the Senate,
- 26:52because that's not your house. You don't own that house.
- 26:56You should not be able to make those type of changes again.
- 27:01Why are you making these changes if you're planning on leaving in a few years anyway?
- 27:05Unless, well, that's the biggest thing for me.
- 27:08It's a, you know, presidents have made changes, you know, throughout history.
- 27:13And that's fine for the betterment of it. But we're building ballrooms.
- 27:19We're ripping up rose gardens and putting slabs of concrete down. We got gold everywhere.
- 27:27I mean, gold, and I'm sorry, I understand that gold is expensive and gold is a great investment.
- 27:34A lot of more, too much gold is tacky. Very much so. It's always been tacky. Very much so.
- 27:40Very much. And if you can hear it in my voice, people listening,
- 27:44no, I just don't like the dude.
- 27:46I didn't like the dude before he became president the first time.
- 27:49I've disliked this dude since I was a teenager. So for those saying that,
- 27:53oh, it's just a bunch of left-wingers talking, no, I've disliked this dude since I was 10 years old.
- 28:01Pass that. Pass that.
- 28:04Even if you have a personal disdain for the guy, if you don't have a personal
- 28:10disdain for the guy, everything he's doing is beneath the office that he holds.
- 28:17It's beneath. Yeah, it is.
- 28:19At this point, it's not personal.
- 28:22You do not deserve to be president of the United States.
- 28:26You don't deserve to be the commander in chief. You have diminished the head
- 28:32office in every single way, every single way.
- 28:37This isn't personal. He just doesn't deserve that honor and he doesn't deserve respect.
- 28:45Respect is earned, not given.
- 28:49He disrespects everyone. So in return, you get nothing but disrespect back.
- 28:55This fool said we're going to cut funding permanently and it's only going to
- 28:59be in Democrat programs.
- 29:01You're the president of the United
- 29:03States. You're not the president of Republicans of the United States.
- 29:08Now I was about to cuss. Go ahead with your current event.
- 29:15So I came across this this morning. There is a rehab facility here in Indy.
- 29:20There's a lady who runs it and she gets funding by, there's a grant from the state.
- 29:27And I guess it's run out of money. And she does like daily yoga with the inmates.
- 29:33I'm sorry. Oh, Jesus. I called them inmates. She does daily yoga and programs
- 29:39to help them get back into society.
- 29:42I mean, there's sex offenders, you name it. They're running out of money.
- 29:47Actually, let me take that back. She's out of money. So she was like funding
- 29:52this out of her own pocket?
- 29:53No, no. It was a state funded grant.
- 29:56And I guess that grant, due to recent budget cuts, it's run out of money.
- 30:01Okay. So right now she's probably running off whatever reserves that she had, you know, left over.
- 30:08And some of these guys are just going to be put right back into the streets
- 30:11without any supervision whatsoever.
- 30:13So the state has like cut it. What it was called? It was a Department of Corrections RSAT grant.
- 30:20And it says it helps pay for sober living and reentry housing.
- 30:25But there's a shortage across Marion County. And sorry, y'all,
- 30:29like I said, I just ran across this this morning. It was interesting.
- 30:32And apparently it's not just her. There's 14 other organizers across Marion
- 30:37County who have run out of money.
- 30:39So this is for people who struggle with addiction and whatnot?
- 30:42People who've gotten out of prison.
- 30:44Okay. So something like a halfway house. Okay. For the most part.
- 30:47Okay. And she said that all of the organizations just learned that the program was ending yesterday.
- 30:58They found out yesterday that they're not getting their next round of money.
- 31:04So when is it over? When is it?
- 31:08The grant program is completely out of money right now. Oh, so the termination date has come and gone.
- 31:16So they found out yesterday, hey, there's no more money. You're not getting
- 31:21your next round of funding.
- 31:24Wow. Oh, so immediately these people are going to be.
- 31:29So, you know what that means? If they're sex offenders and they're living there,
- 31:33now they have to find housing.
- 31:36And trust me, this isn't an old woe is me for sex offenders.
- 31:39I'm just, this was featured in the article.
- 31:43So they're going to have to find somewhere to go. They're going to have to find jobs.
- 31:47They can't live by schools, you know, in certain other areas.
- 31:50So what does that mean? That means that not just sex offenders,
- 31:54but the other people who are trying to get re-acclimated into society now have nothing.
- 31:59So where does that put them? Either homeless or right back in jail.
- 32:04It's a business. Yep. It's crazy.
- 32:08It's crazy, man. And it always funnels back to money in the end.
- 32:17Lord have mercy. Lord have mercy. You know what?
- 32:22Got you got anything else on that no no that was it okay cool you
- 32:26know when when when we spoke earlier this week i told
- 32:29you that because everything was so heavy that
- 32:31i didn't want to do a rart this week i changed my mind because things are so
- 32:38heavy i think we need to just lighten things up because it's just like it's
- 32:44enough to make you cry so with that being said I am going to do a RART this week.
- 32:51Yes, it's that time for everyone's favorite topic, the RART,
- 32:56where we rant about a random topic.
- 33:00And as we go into the spooky season,
- 33:05if you still celebrate Halloween, if you take your kids trick-or-treating,
- 33:11I encourage everyone to be extremely careful and to be safe.
- 33:17My personal opinion, I think trick-or-treating should be outlawed.
- 33:22But that's just me. But that's not my rart. I mean my rart.
- 33:26I want to rart about horror movies. Are you a horror movie fan?
- 33:31Not in the last 15-20 years. They just... Not as good as they used to be.
- 33:38No, I agree. I was going to say something, but I don't want to because I think
- 33:41you're going to say what I was about to say.
- 33:43I don't want to steal your thunder. Well, well, well, maybe and maybe not.
- 33:47So when we were kids, we had Michael Myers, Halloween.
- 33:51We had Freddy Krueger, Never on Elm Street. We had Jason, Friday the 13th. Pinhead. Pinhead.
- 34:01Nightmare. Hell, Hell, Hellraiser movies. Yep.
- 34:04Here's what as an adult, as a kid, this would have never, ever entered my mind.
- 34:10Mind as an adult jason voorhees
- 34:14basically a zombie right he
- 34:19was basically i mean he he died at the end of every movie and came back right
- 34:24he's basically a mutant did jason voorhees have soaking water bro so my point
- 34:30being how in the hell does jason voorhees sneak up on anyone i I mean, because I,
- 34:37again, as a kid, I've never thought about this. You're just like, oh, this is scary.
- 34:41As an adult, I'm going, man, wouldn't you be able to smell this dude like before
- 34:45he even. Two blocks away. Right.
- 34:47Especially in the woods where the air is clean and fresh. You're like.
- 34:52Something died. Yeah, something stank. What is that?
- 34:58I mean, dude could never sneak up on me. You'd be like.
- 35:03Did you fart? Like, what's that smell, bro? He should never be able to sneak
- 35:07up on anyone. And then the whole walking, because he never ran.
- 35:11Like, dude, ain't no way you're going to catch me just walking through these
- 35:14woods. I don't care how good you know.
- 35:16There was a somebody did a skit I saw years ago, and it was talking about what Jason does off camera.
- 35:24And it was somebody running and tripping and falling. And then they put the
- 35:28camera on Jason and then the camera would swing around. And then another camera
- 35:32would show Jason and he'd be on like a motorcycle or in a car,
- 35:36like driving really fast. Yeah. Yeah.
- 35:39Yeah. Yeah. It just. Yeah. When you when you when you look back at it,
- 35:44you just go, man, we love these movies.
- 35:47We were scared of these movies like these movies make absolutely no sense.
- 35:54The last halloween spoiler alert for anyone who hasn't seen it they finally
- 36:02did what they should have done from the get-go they took michael myers and they
- 36:08threw him in a wood chipper,
- 36:10gone you're not coming back this time buddy like why didn't you guys do that
- 36:1630 years ago So I didn't watch it, but that sounds stupid to me. And here's why.
- 36:22They could have cut his head off 30 years ago, too. Yes.
- 36:26Right. But it I don't know, man. I don't want to speak on something.
- 36:31I watch the movie and talk trash about it. I ain't seen it. But you've seen
- 36:36enough of them. I mean, they're all the same.
- 36:38I've seen enough of them. But it's when I saw it was another one coming. I was like, oh, cool.
- 36:43Yeah, I won't be watching that shit. He finally kills Jamie Lee Curtis,
- 36:48whatever his obsession, fascination was with her.
- 36:52He finally kills her. Well, she was his sister. Yeah.
- 36:56He finally kills Jamie Lee Curtis.
- 36:59But the town folk gather him up. They like set him up somehow.
- 37:05I said they take him to a wood chipper and they completely destroy his body.
- 37:10To the end of
- 37:13excuse me the end of michael myers and i'm
- 37:16just like yeah until 2028 when
- 37:19you see another michael myers it'll be it'll come
- 37:22out that he had a child when he well well they they kind of already set that
- 37:28in motion it's not a child it's a kinfolk though but at least they got rid of
- 37:34him which they could have done a long time ago so so that's my right bro as
- 37:39we go into the Halloween season, you know,
- 37:42just go back and you got some spare time, watch some of these old classic horror
- 37:46movies and realize just how bad they are.
- 37:50So what I was going to say is the reason why I don't care for today's scary movie is,
- 37:58Every single movie is just about demons. Everyone.
- 38:03I watched that movie. What is it called? The Lady in the Yard.
- 38:08Okay, yeah. I haven't watched it yet, but I know exactly what you're talking about. Turned it off.
- 38:1213 and a half minutes into the movie. It was that bad? I'm just like,
- 38:15I already know what this is. That was the black family, right? Yeah, yeah. Okay.
- 38:20Of course, that movie should have only been 13 and a half minutes because the
- 38:22first time you look out and see somebody, who is this in the yard?
- 38:25Right. I'm calling the police.
- 38:30And if the police pull up If the police pull up and she does something to them
- 38:35Oh I'm a ghost Right I'm getting little I'm out Okay Alright,
- 38:43So not watching Lady in the yard That would not be reviewed on 5 in the Black But,
- 38:50I will still go back and watch Even though as an adult It still like makes my
- 38:56skin crawl the first time I saw Pinhead,
- 39:02and the scene in Nightmare on Elm Street when Freddie was walking down the alley.
- 39:07Oh, with the arms? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 39:10Because you know, behind our houses growing up, our alleys looked like that.
- 39:14So I'm like, oh, I ain't taking the trash out ever again.
- 39:17You know which one got to me, bro, was Candyman, the first Candyman. Oh, yeah.
- 39:23Especially being that they were in Caprini Green. This is way too close to home. That's 17 miles.
- 39:30Man, I can look. We can get to Cabrini Green in 22 minutes. Right,
- 39:34right, right. That's too close. Right.
- 39:37Yeah, rest in power, Tony Todd. Yeah.
- 39:41Yeah, that one got me. So anyway, that's my work, bro.
- 39:45You got something you want to add for your work? I don't. Not today.
- 39:49I don't have one, unfortunately.
- 39:51All right, all right. Cool, cool. Not a problem at all.
- 39:54Let's get into our five on the black hand side movie review you go ahead and
- 40:02start alright so today we're going to review the.
- 40:09I don't know. We're going to review House Party, the original House Party,
- 40:13not the remake that came out a few years ago by LeBron and those guys.
- 40:19We're not we're not even going to count that one. Actually, it was just that bad.
- 40:24No, we're going to review the original House Party starring Kid and Play,
- 40:30Tisha Campbell, the late, great Robin Harris,
- 40:35the late, great John Witherspoon, a full
- 40:38force what was the dark haired girl name
- 40:41aj yeah uh not dark hair
- 40:44dark skin i'm sorry tyrese's mama from baby boy yeah yeah yeah aj something
- 40:49i'm sorry y'all i always forget her name martin lauren's breakout role and a
- 40:55host of cameos so the movie is about two kids two teenagers, I shouldn't say kids,
- 41:03two teenagers who decide to throw a house party because one of their parents
- 41:09is gone out of town for the weekend.
- 41:12And kid gets into a fight at school, gets beat up by three grown ass men.
- 41:21So he's in trouble. So he has to sneak out to get to the party.
- 41:28Hilarity ensues with him sneaking out, with him on his way to the party, and then when him,
- 41:36when, when him, my goodness, when he gets to the party, when he gets to the
- 41:41party and just all of the fun and chaos that happens at a house party. Classic.
- 41:50So many moments in this movie, so many catchphrases in this movie.
- 41:57Like I just said, it's a classic. That remake they made a few years ago totally
- 42:03does not do justice to the original House Party.
- 42:07But a few things about House Party that touched me personally.
- 42:13Witherspoon that's so my pops screaming out of that window telling all the kids
- 42:19to be quiet that's my pops to a t their bedroom was right there at the front of the house,
- 42:26and i've seen my pop scream out that window at
- 42:30kids telling them to be quiet and i'm just like oh my god they know my daddy
- 42:34i'm like wow they based this character off my daddy but the funniest thing about
- 42:40House Party to me is trying to make us believe that full force were in high school.
- 42:48That was the funniest thing in the whole movie because all three of them were like 45 and up.
- 42:54The second funniest part is the gear. Now I understand it was 1990.
- 43:01We wore some crazy stuff in the 80s and 90s. We did.
- 43:06But my man had the shirt with the whole neck cut out. Yeah. All his chest is out. Yeah.
- 43:14Like, bro, you in high school. They let you walk around with your whole chest out.
- 43:19With some slacks on and some Jordans. Oh, yeah.
- 43:26His brother got on some slacks and a workout tank top. And the other brother
- 43:32never took his hat off. Yeah.
- 43:34Yeah. Walk around the school with a hat on. Yeah. How fast somebody snatched
- 43:38the hat off your head. Yeah. Especially when we were kids. Yeah.
- 43:41Teachers wasn't having it. Yeah.
- 43:43Yeah. Yeah. I'm just like, man, these dudes are all 45.
- 43:47And don't get me wrong, kid and play were probably in their 30s in house party or close to 30.
- 43:54Nah, they were still pretty young. But to try and make us believe that full
- 43:59force were still in high school, it's just like, oh my God, are you serious?
- 44:05Is like, who did the casting for this movie?
- 44:10The great thing about that movie is that it helped. And you're right.
- 44:15Wow, Kid was 26. Mm-hmm. And Play was 28. See, I thought they were like 22, 23 at the time.
- 44:24Yo, that is wild. Yeah. Yeah, bro.
- 44:28Yeah. What was great about that movie, and I'm sure we'll talk about this at
- 44:34some point in the future, is how many great spinoffs of other things. Yeah.
- 44:40That they did. Yeah. We grew up with Kid and Play Cartoons. Yep.
- 44:44Class Act. Yep. Which was great. Yep.
- 44:48Add Bernie Mac into it. Yep. Eventually. Yep. Renaldo. It launched a lot of
- 44:53careers, actually. Absolutely.
- 44:55Chris Tucker. Yep. Appearance was in House Party 3.
- 44:59Bernie Mac. You had the little immature group. Mm-hmm.
- 45:04TLC were just starting to blow up. so TLC got you know a little bit of a shine
- 45:11what's my man that played Ezell,
- 45:15oh also AJ yeah AJ is his last name Johnson or is that her name her name her
- 45:21name she's AJ Johnson okay,
- 45:23what is his name anyway yeah but you know he's he he's the one who Robin Harris
- 45:30talks about his curl oh yeah in house party three uh-huh he's the criminal that caters the party.
- 45:38But he played in two different characters.
- 45:42Dude, the interactions,
- 45:46with them paying for the food and not having the money with Bernie Mac.
- 45:51Dante used to quote that movie all the time.
- 45:56Especially when that fool had that meat cleaver running across his head. Yeah, man.
- 46:03Classic, classic film, man. We had so many catchphrases like, I smell.
- 46:11Now, let's take it back and bring a full circle for you.
- 46:16Had a brother who was literally the DJ the DJ of all house parties in Hammond, Indiana. Yeah.
- 46:25Everywhere. Yeah. Now we lived in East Hammond, but it didn't matter if it was
- 46:30over by the Renaissance, Columbia Center.
- 46:33Yeah. Everybody was calling your brother. Yeah. So seeing that in the movie, we lived it. Yeah.
- 46:41Trying to make that equipment fit. man
- 46:44in the trunk with that big old that speaker
- 46:48yep yep man i lived all of that man carrying in
- 46:51the records all of that which was like my free invitation to the
- 46:54party and just like i'm with him i ain't paying even though
- 46:57you're charged with two three dollars to get in just like
- 46:59i ain't paying yeah i'm carrying in the records and
- 47:02then you just hang out yeah i remember i remember
- 47:06my was my 16th birthday i think
- 47:09it may have been the 16th and he did man them damn crates was so
- 47:11heavy oh yeah oh yeah oh yeah
- 47:14it was it was it was it was a job it was
- 47:18a job good old days the
- 47:21good old days so uh what do we want to rate oh the the as high as we can rate
- 47:27it yeah definitely two high fives on the black hand side for house party the
- 47:34original i gotta repeat that go watch the original You know,
- 47:40I don't want to sit here and quote all the jokes and give it away if you haven't
- 47:43seen it, but go watch the original.
- 47:45It is a laugher from beginning to end and it aged well.
- 47:51All of the jokes are still relevant today. Got a question. I have no proof of
- 47:56this, but it's a good question to ask.
- 48:00House Party was 1990. OK. When did Fresh Prince of Bel-Air come out?
- 48:04Ninety four, ninety five, something like that.
- 48:08Similaries. Funny you say that. Just, I mean, just, just funny you say that.
- 48:14Fresh Prince of Bel-Air was supposed to be a kid in play show.
- 48:19Kid was supposed to be the wheel character. Yeah, because he said it on Breakfast
- 48:23Club, wasn't it? Something like that.
- 48:24And play was supposed to be the jazz character.
- 48:28They got mad because NBC canceled their cartoon.
- 48:34So they were like, y'all canceling our cartoon, then we don't want to do your show.
- 48:39That show turned out to be Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Talk about a mistake.
- 48:48Man because at that time now
- 48:51obviously true hip-hop heads know who kid and play is you
- 48:54know herbie lovebug and all those but kid and play would have been i mean because
- 48:59they were it yeah they were the it group and you know come out of as far as
- 49:05hip-hop at that time to make that crossover into mainstream acting you know
- 49:11they were one of the first yeah and then of course Plus, you got Full Force,
- 49:14who was producing music for everybody. Everybody, yeah.
- 49:17From Madonna to Lisa Lisa. A whole lot of writing credits. Yeah.
- 49:21A lot of people don't know about. Sure. Yeah.
- 49:24So it's, yeah, you're right. Talking about a mistake. Yep. Yep.
- 49:28Yep. Fresh Prince of Bel-Air could have been Kid and Play.
- 49:32Looking back at it, I don't know if it would have been the same show,
- 49:35but, hey, only, well, I shouldn't say time to tell, but I guess too late. Too late for us to tell.
- 49:44I mean, hey, it looks like them and them brothers doing good.
- 49:47I'm sure they all right. They all right. Yeah.
- 49:50All right. So I guess it's time now for the closing monologue.
- 49:55My brother, the floor is yours. I appreciate it.
- 49:59So today I want to talk about something that's going on.
- 50:03We briefly touched on today's episode, but the title of this monologue is The
- 50:08Weaponization We've Always Known.
- 50:12So watch the news lately. You see an ice rounding up brown people again,
- 50:18pulling people from their homes, their jobs.
- 50:21Families are being split up. And what really stands out is how it's being done.
- 50:27It's not quiet. It's loud and it's on camera. It's almost like a show, a reality show.
- 50:35But the people are paying the
- 50:36price. This administration seems to treat enforcement like entertainment.
- 50:41Fear has turned into a headline. Pain has turned into performance.
- 50:45The thing is, it's not new. It's just being broadcast differently.
- 50:50For black and brown communities, this kind of government outreach,
- 50:53you know, organizations such as the FBI, the DEA, Border Patrol in the South and ICE.
- 50:59It's something we've known for generations.
- 51:02We've seen leaders targeted, families torn apart, neighborhoods destroyed,
- 51:07all under three words, law and order.
- 51:10Now that the same machinery is starting to reach beyond those communities,
- 51:14people are suddenly shocked.
- 51:16But for us, this is a story we've already been we've already known by heart.
- 51:20And maybe that's the part that stings the most. Watching people act surprised.
- 51:26Because the truth is, this didn't start yesterday. It's been happening quietly
- 51:30and consistently for decades.
- 51:33So if folks are finally waking up to it now, good.
- 51:36But let's start that conversation with honesty. The weaponization of government
- 51:41didn't begin with this administration.
- 51:43It's just finally being filmed in high definition.
- 51:47All right, y'all, we're going to leave it there.
- 51:51We want to thank y'all for tuning in to another episode of For The Fan Podcast.
- 51:57Again, we're on Spotify. We're on Podbean, YouTube, audio only.
