- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:04Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus. Playfac go to roll right, jumps it off
- 0:07Speaker 1: into the right class to Michael Bumpers, who bounces off
- 0:09Speaker 1: a one tackler gets inside the forty down of the
- 0:12Speaker 1: thirty five yard line. Powered by Seahawks dot Com, Matt
- 0:15Speaker 1: pump fakes looking at the goal line. He throws it
- 0:17Speaker 1: into the end zone. Touchdown Seahawks. It's Michael Bumpus with
- 0:21Speaker 1: a diving catch in the end zone. Ten yard touchdown
- 0:25Speaker 1: reception for Bumpus and the kid out of Washington State
- 0:28Speaker 1: has found himself a place on this team. Now here's
- 0:31Speaker 1: your host, Nasa Chuby. For the second straight week, it's
- 0:36Speaker 1: a victory Monday here at the Virginia Mason Athletics Center
- 0:38Speaker 1: as the Seahawks beat the Chargers thirty seven to twenty
- 0:41Speaker 1: three on the road down at SOFI Stadium. It was
- 0:44Speaker 1: a great game, one in all phases by the Seahawks
- 0:47Speaker 1: offense defense Special team from a like we do every week,
- 0:50Speaker 1: we get inside the trenches with our guy Ray Roberts.
- 0:55Speaker 1: It's time to go inside the trenches with former Seahawk
- 0:58Speaker 1: Ray Roberts. Ray this clearly, to me at least, was
- 1:02Speaker 1: the seahawks most impressive win this season on the road,
- 1:05Speaker 1: taking out a good Chargers team thirty seven twenty three.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Last week, it seemed like the defense really stepped up,
- 1:10Speaker 1: but this week it seemed like it was way more balanced.
- 1:13Speaker 1: What stood out to you the most from this week's game, Well,
- 1:16Speaker 1: I think that the one thing that stood out was,
- 1:18Speaker 1: like what you just said in opening, it was two
- 1:19Speaker 1: you know, the second week in a rope would have win,
- 1:22Speaker 1: which is awesome. We talked about last week about not
- 1:24Speaker 1: going win loss win loss, win lost, and then when
- 1:27Speaker 1: I watched the tape then it's just like it was
- 1:31Speaker 1: like an whole team, every dude effort and the way
- 1:36Speaker 1: the defense played like they played much more the defensive line.
- 1:40Speaker 1: You know, even though Puna four may have had like
- 1:43Speaker 1: a small stat line, his impact was different because he
- 1:46Speaker 1: and Jefferson and Monee and was they all played on
- 1:51Speaker 1: the other side of the on the offensive side of
- 1:53Speaker 1: a lot of scrimmish pretty much the whole day. So
- 1:56Speaker 1: even though they weren't they may not have had like
- 1:58Speaker 1: a ton of sacks, but the it was collapsing on
- 2:01Speaker 1: a quarterback that was trying to throw the ball. They
- 2:03Speaker 1: had thing. They had three tip passes in three or
- 2:06Speaker 1: four sacks. So just their aggression and more of attacking
- 2:11Speaker 1: mode on defense just allowed for a lot of guys
- 2:15Speaker 1: to be part of the action. Yesterday, Ray, I continue
- 2:18Speaker 1: to be impressed by this offensive line so far. They
- 2:21Speaker 1: got up against Bradley Chubb, you got Bosa, this week
- 2:26Speaker 1: it was Khalil Mack and it seems like every week
- 2:29Speaker 1: they they rise to the occasion. Cam Jordan a couple
- 2:31Speaker 1: of weeks ago, is it safe to say these guys
- 2:34Speaker 1: are selling again? Obviously there's always more to learn and
- 2:37Speaker 1: more to prove every week we can week out, But overall, man,
- 2:42Speaker 1: I'm extremely impressed by this offensive line, these tackles in general,
- 2:46Speaker 1: anything you saw, Yeah, absolutely. And the thing that I
- 2:50Speaker 1: liked that I'm starting to see is Damian Lewis. I
- 2:53Speaker 1: think it's starting to round into the guy that we
- 2:56Speaker 1: thought he was gonna be. Like during the game, just
- 3:00Speaker 1: seemed to more connected with the guys he was blocking.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Sometimes you get into a block, you go two or
- 3:05Speaker 1: three steps and you kind of fall off, and then
- 3:08Speaker 1: that defender has a chance to kind of step back
- 3:10Speaker 1: into the hole and stop the run for like a
- 3:12Speaker 1: two or three yard game, whereas yesterday he was creating
- 3:15Speaker 1: nice running lanes driving his guy off the ball three
- 3:18Speaker 1: or four or five yards, And so that goes well
- 3:20Speaker 1: for the center because the better he plays, the better
- 3:23Speaker 1: the centers are going to play. And then you know,
- 3:25Speaker 1: and then the you know, even though Jake came in
- 3:27Speaker 1: for Phil and Phil was the replacing Gabe, that that
- 3:31Speaker 1: position held up well. So they were getting a lot
- 3:33Speaker 1: of push. And when you run into these zone type plays,
- 3:37Speaker 1: you need to have push in the middle to have
- 3:39Speaker 1: created the lanes for the running back to pick. And
- 3:42Speaker 1: you know, whether he wants to go on the front
- 3:43Speaker 1: side a gap or the backside a gap, or right
- 3:45Speaker 1: up the middle, he wants to bounce the day outside.
- 3:48Speaker 1: And if you watch yesterday, Kenneth Walker the third had
- 3:53Speaker 1: opportunities to do all of those things on all the
- 3:56Speaker 1: different runs. You know, And like the seventy four yard
- 3:58Speaker 1: rum was beautiful, but like some of those four or
- 4:01Speaker 1: five yard runs in those eight or nine yard runs
- 4:03Speaker 1: were just as beautiful because of the way the blocking
- 4:06Speaker 1: was happening. Even looking at um a Charles Cross like
- 4:09Speaker 1: he just seems to have. This game was probably the
- 4:13Speaker 1: most physical I've seen him in the running game trying
- 4:16Speaker 1: to finish blocks, being three and four or five yards
- 4:18Speaker 1: down until trying to finish the bos getting up to
- 4:20Speaker 1: the second level. You know, Big Aide is just Big Aide.
- 4:24Speaker 1: You know, the very one of the very first runs
- 4:26Speaker 1: in the game, uh, you know, he had he put
- 4:28Speaker 1: a gall on his back and then I think it's
- 4:30Speaker 1: really hard to speak about this offensive line if you
- 4:32Speaker 1: don't include those three tight ends, because those three tight
- 4:35Speaker 1: ends who were blocking their butts off this past week.
- 4:38Speaker 1: The seventy four yard run was a run that they
- 4:41Speaker 1: had that they the same play they ran earlier in
- 4:44Speaker 1: the first quarter that picked up eight or nine to
- 4:46Speaker 1: ten yards and Walker cut it up inside versus bunting
- 4:50Speaker 1: bouncing to the outside the second time. He bounced it
- 4:52Speaker 1: to the outside and partisan had two blocks on that play.
- 4:56Speaker 1: He helped displeay with his block, and then he ran
- 4:58Speaker 1: up the field and got the safety which from the
- 5:00Speaker 1: door for Kenneth Walker to break the Sunday four yard
- 5:03Speaker 1: touchdown runs. So it's really hard to include the offensive
- 5:06Speaker 1: line and their ability in the run game without including
- 5:09Speaker 1: the tight ends. And you can say that the same
- 5:11Speaker 1: for the passing game because Dido keeps making them a
- 5:14Speaker 1: priority to go to, especially on tight ends day. Ray,
- 5:18Speaker 1: you mentioned ken Walker. Obviously, we'll take it back to
- 5:20Speaker 1: the draft party in April. You called that you were
- 5:23Speaker 1: very excited. You thought the Seahawks will get after ken Walker.
- 5:25Speaker 1: They end up drafting him. Obviously, he's having a ton
- 5:27Speaker 1: of success. One hundred and sixty a yard rushing, two
- 5:30Speaker 1: touchdowns on Sunday. Now when you watch him, what's the
- 5:33Speaker 1: most impressive thing about his game? And did you think
- 5:36Speaker 1: it would take a little longer to see the type
- 5:38Speaker 1: of success we're seeing, you know what I thought? You know, originally,
- 5:42Speaker 1: you know, obviously they had Rashard opinnion that he was
- 5:45Speaker 1: Rashard opinion that he was gonna be the kind of
- 5:47Speaker 1: the two punch to the one punch, and so it
- 5:50Speaker 1: was going to be given time to kind of find
- 5:52Speaker 1: this way and figure out the offense and how to
- 5:54Speaker 1: run and all that. But this dude was ready to go,
- 5:57Speaker 1: you know. And the thing I like about him is
- 5:59Speaker 1: that they were trying to make comparisons to him in
- 6:02Speaker 1: the game. And the one thing, and I'm not calling
- 6:06Speaker 1: Barry Sanders, but the one thing that Barry could do
- 6:08Speaker 1: was cut laterally and then explode vertically faster than you
- 6:12Speaker 1: could make the defense can make the adjustment. And Kenneth
- 6:16Speaker 1: has those same types of qualities, like he can his
- 6:18Speaker 1: lateral movement and the way that he can make people
- 6:21Speaker 1: miss in the hole and then all of a sudden,
- 6:22Speaker 1: take one step and he's at full speed and he
- 6:24Speaker 1: can gain in or nine yards, so he can you know,
- 6:27Speaker 1: slow play that outside run. Then when he gets the
- 6:29Speaker 1: shoulders vertical, he takes off and he's running down the field.
- 6:33Speaker 1: So his ability to go from horizontal to vertical faster
- 6:37Speaker 1: that the defender can make that adjustment is one of
- 6:39Speaker 1: the things that's impressive to me. And that's why he
- 6:41Speaker 1: probably leaves the league and causing the most mistackles because
- 6:46Speaker 1: the guy it's just really hard to get to the ground.
- 6:48Speaker 1: He has great lateral movement, great footwork, and then he
- 6:51Speaker 1: can take one step and be full speed through the hole.
- 6:53Speaker 1: So that's the thing that's impressive about him to me.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Ray we saw this defense can taine Austin Ekeler in
- 7:01Speaker 1: the Charges running game as a whole in the fifty
- 7:03Speaker 1: three yards on the ground. Next week you got sa
- 7:05Speaker 1: Kuon Barkley coming into Looman obviously, he presents a different challenge,
- 7:09Speaker 1: more of a downhill running than Austin Ekeler. Do you
- 7:13Speaker 1: feel like this defense will be able to contain the
- 7:16Speaker 1: talents of this young man from Penn State. Yeah, I
- 7:20Speaker 1: think as long as the defensive line all of them
- 7:24Speaker 1: are engaging the stack book. I mean, you think about yesterday,
- 7:28Speaker 1: Jefferson May plays, Adams May plays, Tony four May plays,
- 7:31Speaker 1: I was made plays, Nuols, who May plays, Daryl Taylor
- 7:35Speaker 1: May plays, you know, like mass May plays. You know,
- 7:39Speaker 1: Bruce Irvin had some tackles. You know, as long as
- 7:42Speaker 1: that whole compliment of players are playing on the offensive
- 7:46Speaker 1: side of the line of scrimmage. And then with sa
- 7:48Speaker 1: Kwon Barkley, you have to rally to the ball. He's
- 7:52Speaker 1: he's a guy like he runs different than Barry, But
- 7:55Speaker 1: usually the first guys I got to bring him down.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Or even when that first guy has a good hit
- 7:59Speaker 1: on him, he has a way of slipping off, keeping
- 8:01Speaker 1: his balance whatever, and picking up another five or six
- 8:04Speaker 1: yards or spending off and taking it to the house.
- 8:06Speaker 1: So it's going to be important that they I've heard
- 8:10Speaker 1: this saying on the college football this week, but they
- 8:13Speaker 1: populate to the football it, which means that they need
- 8:17Speaker 1: to get a lot of people there because that dude
- 8:19Speaker 1: can break it and you think that he's down and
- 8:21Speaker 1: he's still going. So that's going to be important for
- 8:23Speaker 1: them this week. Ray, I'll leave you with this. I
- 8:26Speaker 1: know we're really close to this team. Obviously, we've been
- 8:29Speaker 1: around to cover them throughout the year, from training camp
- 8:31Speaker 1: to mini camps to the regular season. Now, everyone and
- 8:35Speaker 1: their moms outside of this building in this area thought
- 8:37Speaker 1: the Seahawks were not gonna be good. They were saying
- 8:39Speaker 1: they're only gonna win maybe five games this year. I've
- 8:42Speaker 1: seen you on Twitter because you can't you can't not engage.
- 8:45Speaker 1: But going back on everyone who talked about whether it's
- 8:48Speaker 1: Gino or Pete Carroll not knowing quarterbacks or Pete Carroll
- 8:51Speaker 1: not knowing when he's doing, to what they're doing on
- 8:53Speaker 1: the field, Now, when you see that kind of stuff
- 8:55Speaker 1: and you kind of knew this was going to be
- 8:57Speaker 1: the case from the jump, where do you think this
- 8:59Speaker 1: team ceiling can go? Obviously still early in the year,
- 9:01Speaker 1: but now obviously it seems like every time I turn
- 9:03Speaker 1: on the TV, the seahawkstion now the new hottest thing.
- 9:05Speaker 1: All of a sudden. We've like we've been telling you
- 9:07Speaker 1: this the whole time. So what do you think the
- 9:08Speaker 1: ceiling of this team can be this year? No? I
- 9:12Speaker 1: really think if Gino and the offense just keeps every week,
- 9:17Speaker 1: they some element of the game gets better. So this week,
- 9:20Speaker 1: you know, Godwin was a guy with two touchdowns, you know,
- 9:24Speaker 1: and and then uh Tyler was doing his same old thing.
- 9:27Speaker 1: DK went out the game and before you would say, like, man,
- 9:31Speaker 1: d K after game, well we're gonna struggle, like we're
- 9:33Speaker 1: gonna have a hard time moving the ball, or they're
- 9:35Speaker 1: they're gonna be able to isolate on Tyler and take
- 9:38Speaker 1: him out. Who else is going to step up? But man,
- 9:40Speaker 1: he has to be willing to shut down all three
- 9:42Speaker 1: the different skill sets that tight ends have, the speed
- 9:46Speaker 1: that Godwin has, the expert just trying to work his
- 9:49Speaker 1: his way into it. You have you know, uh Tyler
- 9:53Speaker 1: doing his thing, and then you have the running backside
- 9:55Speaker 1: of the backfield, and then Gino is just dropping dimes.
- 9:58Speaker 1: Like I know, I'll keep I try to make the
- 10:00Speaker 1: comparison of him being a Mark Jackson instead of a
- 10:03Speaker 1: Steph Curry, But I think he's somewhere in between there
- 10:06Speaker 1: because He's not just the Mark Jackson's just kind of
- 10:08Speaker 1: distributing the ball. This dude is making plays. And then
- 10:11Speaker 1: if you look at how the defense has come on
- 10:14Speaker 1: in the last couple of weeks, and some people can
- 10:16Speaker 1: say like, well, Arizona, you know, didn't have the whole
- 10:18Speaker 1: bunch of injuries and this that nothing. But it was
- 10:21Speaker 1: important for this defense to see themselves executing this defense
- 10:25Speaker 1: and having success with it, because in that brief confidence,
- 10:28Speaker 1: you kind of go, Okay, this is how we this
- 10:30Speaker 1: is I'm supposed to play that. This is what it
- 10:32Speaker 1: looks like when coaches are asking me to wrong shoulder this,
- 10:34Speaker 1: or get to the outside or set the edge, set
- 10:37Speaker 1: the edge or whatever. And so then you follow that
- 10:39Speaker 1: up last week, you know, this past week with a
- 10:41Speaker 1: guy like the running back that they have for the Chargers,
- 10:46Speaker 1: and he's a tough Eckler is a tough tackle. He's
- 10:49Speaker 1: a tough dude to get down in the passing game
- 10:52Speaker 1: and in the running game, and they did a great
- 10:54Speaker 1: job doing that. So I think with all of that
- 10:56Speaker 1: progress and all of these things get better, and I think,
- 10:59Speaker 1: you know, the second half of the season can be different,
- 11:02Speaker 1: but I think they're gonna be different. So I can
- 11:03Speaker 1: see them winning the NFC West. I just think they're
- 11:06Speaker 1: that good, you know, and this wide open and if
- 11:09Speaker 1: I look at how wide open it is and how
- 11:11Speaker 1: teams are playing, and then who the coaches are, I'm
- 11:13Speaker 1: taking the Seahawks every time because the team is playing really,
- 11:16Speaker 1: really well. And to me, Pete Carroll still doesn't get
- 11:19Speaker 1: when people start still kind of trying to highlight what
- 11:22Speaker 1: he does as a coach. It's so great. That just
- 11:25Speaker 1: means that they haven't been paying attention. And then because
- 11:27Speaker 1: he's been doing it from day one. And so I'll
- 11:29Speaker 1: take Pete and a good Seahawks football team over any
- 11:33Speaker 1: of the other teams and coaches in the division. Ray
- 11:36Speaker 1: to speak that new existence, dog, I am, I'm here
- 11:38Speaker 1: for it. I'm telling you, I'm gonna put this out there.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Me and Mom're gonna put this out there. Come January.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Win the NFC West. I'm gonna tell you a man,
- 11:45Speaker 1: Ray told us on October twenty fourth, he already knew
- 11:48Speaker 1: about it. So Ray, every week, we appreciate it. Hopefully
- 11:51Speaker 1: we're talking to you next Monday after another Seahawks win. Man, Yeah, sure,
- 11:55Speaker 1: you guys have a good one. Appreciate thank you, Ray Pece.
- 11:58Speaker 1: See what happened at first, What had happened was we've
- 12:05Speaker 1: talked about this a couple of times over the years.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Seahawks used to struggle a little bit at the beginning,
- 12:10Speaker 1: as we know, you can't win the game till the
- 12:11Speaker 1: fourth quarter. You know what I'm saying. Things getting figure
- 12:13Speaker 1: out in the second half. Well, not today, not on Sunday.
- 12:16Speaker 1: I mean, the seats got after it right from the jump.
- 12:19Speaker 1: And the craziest thing was is Gino threw a pick
- 12:21Speaker 1: on the first drive. It was in this fault kind
- 12:23Speaker 1: of a tight window. Did Lockey get interfered with? It
- 12:26Speaker 1: was kind of a bang bang play ball gets shot
- 12:28Speaker 1: up in the air, it gets picked off. But guess
- 12:31Speaker 1: who comes and play from the jump? The starting defense
- 12:33Speaker 1: come out there. It was an Austin Ekeler got about
- 12:35Speaker 1: four carries to get a huge fourth down stop. Ryan
- 12:38Speaker 1: Neil and Boy Mothey were leading the charge giving the
- 12:41Speaker 1: ball to this offense. And on that first drive or
- 12:43Speaker 1: the second drive when they got the ball back, Seahawks capitalize,
- 12:46Speaker 1: going eight plays sixty eight yards, had a couple of
- 12:49Speaker 1: pass interference penalties ending in a twenty yard touchdown to
- 12:52Speaker 1: Marquis good when really cool to see. Good when you know,
- 12:56Speaker 1: have some success from that third receiver position on Sunday, Yeah,
- 13:00Speaker 1: good when he saved the day. You know, especially when
- 13:02Speaker 1: DK goes out with an injury, you're looking to say,
- 13:04Speaker 1: all right, who's gonna step up? And Mark he's Goodwin
- 13:06Speaker 1: was that guy and the defense wasn't done. Ryan Neil
- 13:09Speaker 1: would have an interception, which great, look like a Robbert look.
- 13:12Speaker 1: He gets downhill, intercepts the football, tries to get some
- 13:14Speaker 1: money afterwards, and that set up ken Walker's first touchdown
- 13:18Speaker 1: was a twelve yard touchdown. Nice little cutback. They made
- 13:21Speaker 1: the score fourteen and zero. And then DT has his
- 13:24Speaker 1: biggest play of the year. Man bends the corner, a
- 13:28Speaker 1: strip fumble, a striped sack, He picks it up, goes
- 13:31Speaker 1: twenty one yards. That led to a field goal. Want
- 13:34Speaker 1: to get seven out of it, but no, we'll take
- 13:35Speaker 1: some points and the Charger will get back in the game.
- 13:38Speaker 1: Austin Eckler scored a touchdown, then the Seahawks would fumble,
- 13:41Speaker 1: and then that led to a thirteen yard pass two
- 13:43Speaker 1: Mike Wims made the score seventeen to fourteen. At this point,
- 13:47Speaker 1: the game is still tight in play still needs to
- 13:49Speaker 1: be made. Yeah, so it was a good thing. The
- 13:51Speaker 1: Seahawks built a little bit of cushion, you know what
- 13:53Speaker 1: I'm saying. They're playing a good team. The Chargers are
- 13:55Speaker 1: very good football team with a lot of good players. Chargers.
- 13:58Speaker 1: Obviously you're gonna hold them down, You're gonna shut them out.
- 14:00Speaker 1: But like you said, the Seahawks stayed in it. They're
- 14:03Speaker 1: up seventeen fourteen. A couple of obsessions later, they go
- 14:06Speaker 1: on another seven play seventy three yard drive ending and
- 14:08Speaker 1: another Marque's good one touchdown, So you're talking about saving
- 14:11Speaker 1: the day. It's twenty four to fourteen at the half
- 14:13Speaker 1: with you know, with a guy that's coming out and
- 14:15Speaker 1: making plays without dk Metcalfs. So you're feeling really good
- 14:18Speaker 1: about this offense being up ten. They opened the second
- 14:21Speaker 1: half seventeen plays. Man took ten minutes off the clock. Okay,
- 14:27Speaker 1: so longest drive of the season. I think it's pretty
- 14:29Speaker 1: safe to stay there. But taking ten plays off the
- 14:31Speaker 1: clock and bum Let's talk about this drive spcipically for
- 14:33Speaker 1: a little bit, because this is the drive where there's
- 14:36Speaker 1: a bantam fall. Start start on life doesn't move the
- 14:40Speaker 1: football doesn't do anything, so it comes out of nowhere.
- 14:43Speaker 1: It makes a third and ten. So now there's a
- 14:45Speaker 1: lot of chaos on the sideline. The rafts are talking
- 14:47Speaker 1: and Gino talking and Pete there's a little you know,
- 14:49Speaker 1: Gino's going back and forth, and then Pete just kind
- 14:51Speaker 1: of looks at him kind of birth shops like hey,
- 14:53Speaker 1: we got this, Like be cool, we got you, Dodd,
- 14:55Speaker 1: and then Ga goes yup. Next play, Boom hits locking
- 14:58Speaker 1: for a first down on third and ten. I just
- 15:00Speaker 1: loved everything about that moment because Gino's fiery, but he's like, okay,
- 15:03Speaker 1: I got you, and then has a coach's back, Boom
- 15:05Speaker 1: gets the first down. So I just love the energy
- 15:07Speaker 1: in in you know, the swag, and it felt different
- 15:10Speaker 1: to me offensively, just felt different. Yeah, it felt different,
- 15:13Speaker 1: and I love I love Gino chirping to the charters
- 15:15Speaker 1: sideline too. After that big play on third down, I'm like,
- 15:19Speaker 1: let's go. I can get with you. So now they
- 15:22Speaker 1: forced the charges to punt, but then they were backed up,
- 15:24Speaker 1: and I think palm Oyer and Brian Watch has made
- 15:28Speaker 1: a good point. Field turf doesn't react the same as grass.
- 15:32Speaker 1: So they were saying, you know, typically you're top put
- 15:34Speaker 1: your hills at eight to ten yards if you got
- 15:36Speaker 1: to move backward, if you're a pump returner, he let
- 15:38Speaker 1: that thing. Oh that's exactly what happened right there. But
- 15:40Speaker 1: the land is so softly, and so the Seals were
- 15:43Speaker 1: backed up on their own two yard line, and then
- 15:46Speaker 1: the Chargers would get a safety. So um, that happens.
- 15:51Speaker 1: But then ken Walker has an opportunity to redeem himself
- 15:54Speaker 1: and redeem that whole situation. What does he do a
- 15:57Speaker 1: little toss to the right. Bam, seventy four yards. My
- 16:00Speaker 1: guy ran twenty two points zero nine miles per hour,
- 16:03Speaker 1: the fastest ball carrier in the league this year. And
- 16:07Speaker 1: then the Chargers got some garbage time touchdown. They got
- 16:09Speaker 1: some yards. It's gonna look a bit prettier than in
- 16:12Speaker 1: norm than it really was. But the second half, man
- 16:16Speaker 1: the defense, the defense really held this Charger offense. They
- 16:20Speaker 1: went punt punt, punt, down's garbage touchdown. The defense has
- 16:25Speaker 1: another day. Despite the score. You're gonna see the score
- 16:27Speaker 1: and ask a lot of questions, but if you watched
- 16:29Speaker 1: the game, you know how it really went down. Absolutely,
- 16:31Speaker 1: it was thirty seven sixteen. That game was done In
- 16:33Speaker 1: that point, Ken Walker put stamp on it. Game was over.
- 16:37Speaker 1: And really before that, the last drive of the first
- 16:39Speaker 1: half was another punt, So the Seahawks defense to hold
- 16:42Speaker 1: that Chargers offensive five straight punts. Yes, you know, Keenan
- 16:45Speaker 1: Allen didn't play as many reps as before, but he's
- 16:48Speaker 1: still out there. Mike Williams is still a really, really
- 16:50Speaker 1: good player. He didn't get hurt till the very end
- 16:52Speaker 1: of that game. So hats off to the defense because
- 16:55Speaker 1: whatever between Pete Carroll, Clint Hurt, Shan Decide Carl Scott,
- 16:59Speaker 1: they got some figured out. For a while, there's a
- 17:00Speaker 1: lot of doubt, but it just took takes a little
- 17:02Speaker 1: bit of time, and I feel like we're finally on
- 17:04Speaker 1: our way to seeing what the potential this defense can
- 17:07Speaker 1: really be. But let's get back into talk about these playmakers. Playmakers.
- 17:21Speaker 1: The guy we were just talking about, Geno Smith twenty
- 17:24Speaker 1: twenty seven, two hundred and ten yards, two touchdowns, one interception,
- 17:28Speaker 1: QB rating of one oh five point five. With his
- 17:31Speaker 1: two touchdowns in the first half, Geno tie John Freeze
- 17:34Speaker 1: for ninth place on the Seahawks all time passing touchdown
- 17:37Speaker 1: the list with sixteen. Geno Smith leading this offense is
- 17:40Speaker 1: now fifth in the NFL. I'm scoring averaging twenty six
- 17:43Speaker 1: points per game. And there's nothing else I can say
- 17:45Speaker 1: about Geno that hasnt already been said. This man believe
- 17:48Speaker 1: in himself. He's been consistent each and every single week.
- 17:51Speaker 1: You know, you might be able to let some of
- 17:53Speaker 1: the outside noise creep in when you're starting to have success.
- 17:56Speaker 1: But he's the same dude as before. He's the same
- 17:58Speaker 1: dude when everyone was saying he can't play quarterback, when
- 18:01Speaker 1: I believe one of those QB lists came out saying
- 18:03Speaker 1: he was the forty second best quarterback in the league.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Wherever was No, He's the same dude, consistent as matter.
- 18:09Speaker 1: You're loving him, you're hating him. Gino just out there
- 18:11Speaker 1: playing well, efficient. Nothing rattles him. So love to see
- 18:14Speaker 1: what we're seeing from Gino. Man. Gino's a cool cat
- 18:17Speaker 1: right now. He gets fired up at the same time,
- 18:20Speaker 1: but then he brings it back in when it's time
- 18:22Speaker 1: to execute. Different type of leader, but I love it.
- 18:25Speaker 1: Ken Walker one of the playmakers. Twenty three carries one
- 18:27Speaker 1: hundred and sixty eight yards and two touchdowns. Now his
- 18:30Speaker 1: seventy four yard run is the eighth longest run in
- 18:33Speaker 1: franchise history. Honestly, there's been some great runs of franchise history.
- 18:37Speaker 1: If the seventy four yard run is the eighth of
- 18:38Speaker 1: the longest run, I got a big up, Sean Alexander,
- 18:41Speaker 1: he got an eighty eight yard or in that thing.
- 18:44Speaker 1: Walker's two one hundred and sixty five yards are the
- 18:46Speaker 1: most enfranchise history and a player's first who starts we
- 18:49Speaker 1: talk about that run. This guy ran twenty two point
- 18:52Speaker 1: zero nine miles per hour. That's the fastest buy a
- 18:55Speaker 1: ball carry this season, according to next gin stats, Walker's
- 18:59Speaker 1: the first. See how Ricky when one hundred and fifty
- 19:01Speaker 1: yards and two rush touchdowns in a game since Lawyer's Guy,
- 19:05Speaker 1: Kurt Warner and h He has some other runs too.
- 19:08Speaker 1: He had a thirty four yard run, a twenty one
- 19:09Speaker 1: yard run, breaking a lot of tackles. All he's missing
- 19:12Speaker 1: now is just a big, big, big catch out the
- 19:16Speaker 1: backfield or super screen or something like that. Because he's
- 19:18Speaker 1: doing everything he can to help this team win games.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Man is staying contention. Ken Walker is a beast man.
- 19:23Speaker 1: I can't I can't sit here and think I would.
- 19:26Speaker 1: I knew he was gonna be stud I knew when
- 19:28Speaker 1: we drafted him, I was excited, but what I wasn't
- 19:30Speaker 1: sure was how quickly we're gonna see this right, because
- 19:32Speaker 1: you know we're shot. Penny was getting all the carries
- 19:34Speaker 1: and he was really starting to come on. But the
- 19:36Speaker 1: fact that what I really like is that's two straight
- 19:38Speaker 1: weeks with over twenty carries for ken Walker. Yeah, he's like,
- 19:41Speaker 1: I can handle it, and you know we're gonna give
- 19:44Speaker 1: him the rock and yeah, those those thighs, man, oh
- 19:48Speaker 1: my goodness. And we talked about it the other day.
- 19:50Speaker 1: He's running. It doesn't feel like he's running that fast. Nah,
- 19:53Speaker 1: But but the talent. I've always noticed this, when you
- 19:56Speaker 1: guys who are really fast, you look at the guys
- 19:58Speaker 1: chasing them, that's you know, guy, they're fast, Because when
- 20:00Speaker 1: the dudes that are chasing them look like they're giving
- 20:02Speaker 1: them all on, they're moving and they're getting farther and
- 20:04Speaker 1: farther behind, You're like, oh that boy moving now moving.
- 20:10Speaker 1: Marquis Goodwin, of course, he was balling out two four receptions,
- 20:13Speaker 1: sixty seven yards, two touchdowns, first game of the touchdowns
- 20:16Speaker 1: since Week ten of last season, and honestly, for me,
- 20:19Speaker 1: the biggest thing was really good to see receiver outside
- 20:21Speaker 1: of DK Metcalf for Tyler Lockett step up and really
- 20:23Speaker 1: be a big part of this offense. You know, d
- 20:25Speaker 1: Eskridge had started to kind of do that last couple
- 20:28Speaker 1: of weeks. I still think there's gonna be good things
- 20:29Speaker 1: for him in this offense. I know he had to
- 20:31Speaker 1: fumble on the toss, but I still think he's gonna
- 20:34Speaker 1: be a guy who's gonna contribute. So again, good to
- 20:36Speaker 1: see another number three receiver contribute offensively. Next up is
- 20:41Speaker 1: Ryan Neil. Now, when the season started there was another safety,
- 20:44Speaker 1: Josh Jones, who was getting a lot of the reps.
- 20:47Speaker 1: Ryan was banged up a little bit. Now he's healthy.
- 20:49Speaker 1: Last week he had seven tackles, four passes defended, in
- 20:53Speaker 1: one interception. He was on our show the huddle and
- 20:57Speaker 1: pretty much predicted that he was going to have an interception.
- 21:00Speaker 1: So it's nice to see that come to life. And
- 21:03Speaker 1: he was one of the guys too, when this defense
- 21:05Speaker 1: was struggling, who was being completely transparent and putting pressure
- 21:08Speaker 1: on himself and his teammates to step this thing up
- 21:11Speaker 1: in the absence of Jamal adams Man. Ryan Neil plays
- 21:13Speaker 1: a big rolle. He's got to continue to do it
- 21:16Speaker 1: done and every year. Man. I saw him today in
- 21:18Speaker 1: the locker room. I said, man, big play two six.
- 21:20Speaker 1: We want a big play on defense, Go find two six.
- 21:22Speaker 1: Because he's always a last thing here for playmakers, this
- 21:25Speaker 1: offensive line, man Ray talks about. Lets give him some love.
- 21:28Speaker 1: It's a group effort. The Seahawks rush for two hundred
- 21:30Speaker 1: and fourteen yards on thirty four carries, averaging six point
- 21:32Speaker 1: three yards to carry. Also clill Mack for Cluemack any
- 21:36Speaker 1: day or Clilmack is not in the backfield making a
- 21:38Speaker 1: ton of plays. Love to see and the other thing
- 21:41Speaker 1: I love to see, just one one other quick thing
- 21:42Speaker 1: on this month. So it's a run by Ken Walker, right,
- 21:46Speaker 1: clil Max kind of standing over him, trying to rip
- 21:48Speaker 1: the football out, kind of just trying to punk the
- 21:49Speaker 1: young rookie, and Ken walks like, yeah, na, dog, that's
- 21:52Speaker 1: not you know what I'm saying. And then everyone kind
- 21:54Speaker 1: of got into which is funny. And then klil Max
- 21:57Speaker 1: walking off across the sideline. Shelby Harris is just laughing,
- 22:00Speaker 1: right this day's laughing at him. So that's a good
- 22:03Speaker 1: day up front. The big boys are killing the game.
- 22:05Speaker 1: So I love to see what we're seeing there. Yeah, man,
- 22:08Speaker 1: big ups to the old line. They don't get a
- 22:09Speaker 1: lot of love, so we always whenever we can shout
- 22:13Speaker 1: them out. All right, Let's get to this wide receiver
- 22:15Speaker 1: round that you talked about. Marquis Goodwin. He was the
- 22:18Speaker 1: man of the day, four for sixty seven and two
- 22:20Speaker 1: touchdowns on five targets. Uncle Will Disley slowly having probably
- 22:25Speaker 1: one of his better seasons his rookie season. He scored
- 22:27Speaker 1: a bunch of touchdowns earlier. Then he gets banged up,
- 22:29Speaker 1: but Uncle Will's making this thing go. The entire locket
- 22:32Speaker 1: had seven for forty five, and people are gonna look
- 22:34Speaker 1: at the stat line and think he didn't do much,
- 22:36Speaker 1: but he had some crucial third down catches, especially on
- 22:38Speaker 1: that seven team play drive that we were talking about.
- 22:41Speaker 1: Clutch catches for this guy. Kobe Parkinson had one of
- 22:44Speaker 1: the biggest or had the biggest pass play of the day,
- 22:46Speaker 1: nice little misdirection out the backfield. He had one catch
- 22:49Speaker 1: for twenty eight before DK went down. He had one
- 22:51Speaker 1: for twelve, almost scored a great touchdown. Noah fam had
- 22:54Speaker 1: one for seven. DJ Dallas didn't talk about him. He
- 22:57Speaker 1: had two for six, but he also had thirty eight
- 22:59Speaker 1: yards rushing as well. DJ Dallas is gonna have to
- 23:02Speaker 1: be that number two running back in his offense. Now
- 23:06Speaker 1: with that question, I think there's good stuff from DJ.
- 23:08Speaker 1: We've seen it quite frankly all season. We saw in
- 23:10Speaker 1: the preseason he's kind of stepping in there. They kind
- 23:12Speaker 1: of assist with Ken Walker. But Travis Homer is another
- 23:16Speaker 1: guy that looks to come off the ir hopefully this week.
- 23:19Speaker 1: So we'll keep you posted there on that. Let's get
- 23:22Speaker 1: into the coach's corner. We've talked about it all day.
- 23:24Speaker 1: We've talked about this man, Ken Walker, the seventy four
- 23:27Speaker 1: yard touchdown run that sealed the ball game. First and
- 23:31Speaker 1: Tim toss to Walker, goes right side, has a little
- 23:33Speaker 1: running room, Parkinson out front here, goes up the side.
- 23:35Speaker 1: He's on the run fourty down to the three year
- 23:37Speaker 1: they're gonna catch him, I don't think so. Fifteen ten touchdown,
- 23:42Speaker 1: Sayhawks seventy four yards, but Seayhawks get the ball on
- 23:48Speaker 1: downs they toss it to ken Walker. The third he
- 23:53Speaker 1: gets fired out of a gatling gunning. He is gone
- 23:57Speaker 1: up the right side on seventy four and nobody got
- 24:01Speaker 1: a whipp and he is in to stretch. This lead
- 24:05Speaker 1: what a back or a breat play called the Seahawks
- 24:09Speaker 1: now lead thirty six to sixteen. Man this there's not
- 24:15Speaker 1: a lot to this design, but there's a lot that
- 24:17Speaker 1: went down. So they're in a three tight end set.
- 24:20Speaker 1: You got two tight ends to the left, one to
- 24:21Speaker 1: the right. Uncle Will's to the right. You motioned Kobe
- 24:24Speaker 1: Parkinson over and then Gino tosses to the motion side.
- 24:28Speaker 1: But I think people didn't really recognize here. Will Disley
- 24:31Speaker 1: is supposed to seal that edge right there, and I
- 24:33Speaker 1: guarantee you Kobe Parkson is supposed to get outside of
- 24:36Speaker 1: Uncle Will Disley and escort the youngster up the field.
- 24:41Speaker 1: But what happens is that guy over Will Disley gets
- 24:44Speaker 1: so wide that Kobe Parkinson plays football and he goes
- 24:47Speaker 1: in between Uncle Will and Abe Lucas. And when he
- 24:51Speaker 1: does that, he helps out Uncle Will with his block. Right,
- 24:53Speaker 1: Uncle Will has hands on him, he's in control them,
- 24:55Speaker 1: but boom hits him in the shoulder. Now that guy
- 24:57Speaker 1: drops to the ground, helps Uncle Will get a pancake.
- 25:01Speaker 1: And then you look at again d Eskridge again involved
- 25:04Speaker 1: on another big run. I think that's why one of
- 25:06Speaker 1: the reasons why this young man is getting more playing
- 25:08Speaker 1: time because they know he can block. He's ficing, he
- 25:11Speaker 1: gets on that safety and now you have Kobe Parkinson
- 25:14Speaker 1: on the corner on the outside, gets just enough and
- 25:17Speaker 1: the rest is just speed. Man, when you have this
- 25:20Speaker 1: guy in the backfield, ken Walker would vision and with speed,
- 25:23Speaker 1: sometimes all you gotta do is getting a guy's way
- 25:26Speaker 1: and let him read your block. And that was explosive. Man,
- 25:29Speaker 1: we saw this play, we were excited. Didn't realize how
- 25:32Speaker 1: fast a young man was running. But this was a
- 25:35Speaker 1: great pickup for the Seattle Seahouse. He get tags to
- 25:38Speaker 1: prove it every week. I love everything you said. They're
- 25:40Speaker 1: bumpo a spot on and you mentioned that's another one.
- 25:43Speaker 1: The first two times I watched his play, I wasn't
- 25:45Speaker 1: really looking at him. He completely takes the safety of
- 25:47Speaker 1: the play done. Yeah, absolutely, just that's that's You can't
- 25:50Speaker 1: ask for anything more than that from receiver blocking down field,
- 25:53Speaker 1: setting guys up for Kobe Parkinson, who a lot of
- 25:56Speaker 1: the knock on him coming in was you know, he's
- 25:58Speaker 1: just a pass catcher right out of Stanford, not anymore.
- 26:00Speaker 1: This offseason he put him the ton away and now
- 26:02Speaker 1: he's a he's a factor in the run game. He
- 26:05Speaker 1: gets two blocks on this play alongside uncle will know
- 26:08Speaker 1: a fan on the back side of this play. Everyone
- 26:10Speaker 1: just doing their job and then ken Walker being the
- 26:12Speaker 1: athlete that he is, a normal dude. It's a nine
- 26:16Speaker 1: yard game tactic on the sideline ken Walker. Every single
- 26:19Speaker 1: time he touches the ball, it's a home run potential.
- 26:22Speaker 1: And if you are a defensive back or if you're
- 26:24Speaker 1: anyone in the backfield, your angles better be on point
- 26:26Speaker 1: because this man is running. So I'm I'm petty too.
- 26:31Speaker 1: I'm glad that Murray Junior didn't get him because he
- 26:33Speaker 1: had a pick to start the game and he was
- 26:35Speaker 1: flex and he was he was soaking it all in.
- 26:38Speaker 1: So yep, I'm petty. He all ran him our number nine.
- 26:41Speaker 1: I'll ran there, number nine. Oh yeah, and he all
- 26:43Speaker 1: ran him by a lot, you know, rand him by
- 26:44Speaker 1: about fifteen yards. So great to see we got a
- 26:47Speaker 1: special player in ken Walker number nine. Love to see
- 26:51Speaker 1: it in. What I also love to see is getting
- 26:53Speaker 1: in that formation that means you won the football game.
- 26:59Speaker 1: Here it comes the Seahawks offense onto the field and
- 27:02Speaker 1: the Vikings defense crunching out there knowing that one kneel
- 27:07Speaker 1: down and the Seahawks are gonna wind the clock down
- 27:10Speaker 1: and women's fun. It's the victory formation on Hawk Talk.
- 27:14Speaker 1: Like we said it started the show, this is the
- 27:16Speaker 1: most balanced after by the Seahawks all season long. Defense
- 27:18Speaker 1: played well, offense played well, special teams played well, did
- 27:21Speaker 1: not give up the big play. Things were good, you
- 27:24Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. So love to see what we
- 27:26Speaker 1: saw from this team. Just balance. That's what Pete Carroll preaches.
- 27:28Speaker 1: They love to see balance. All three phases of the
- 27:30Speaker 1: game played well. That's a good Chargers team down in La. Yeah.
- 27:35Speaker 1: And I think I want to say the biggest play
- 27:36Speaker 1: from Scimmers for the Charges was a twenty four yard
- 27:38Speaker 1: touchdown to Mike Williams. So it was not a fifty
- 27:41Speaker 1: yard and not an eighty one yard and not these
- 27:43Speaker 1: big plays that we've seen over the years. So good
- 27:45Speaker 1: for them. We mentioned this guy. We'll do it again,
- 27:47Speaker 1: man ken Walker. He showed that this second round pick
- 27:51Speaker 1: was perfect all right. Und sixty eight on twenty three carries.
- 27:55Speaker 1: He continues to do his thing and then Gino efficient
- 27:57Speaker 1: seventy four percent completion percentage, twenty seven, two touchdowns. He
- 28:02Speaker 1: played with energy, He played with some fire, but he
- 28:05Speaker 1: also was composed when he needed to be composed. Gino Man,
- 28:10Speaker 1: I wonder if nationally he's getting the respect that he deserves,
- 28:13Speaker 1: because reagionally you can't deny it. So I can't wait
- 28:16Speaker 1: to sit down and watch sports in the night and
- 28:18Speaker 1: hopefully they gassed my guy up. It's starting to everything
- 28:21Speaker 1: I've seen, whether it's the NFL Alive, whether it's Get Up,
- 28:24Speaker 1: there's enough people talking about him or stephen A. Smith
- 28:26Speaker 1: talking about him, So it's slowly starting to get there,
- 28:29Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So loved to see what
- 28:30Speaker 1: we're seeing there. And I think a guy who's that
- 28:34Speaker 1: consistent if his name wasn't, if he had a different
- 28:37Speaker 1: name and people didn't already have their minds made about
- 28:40Speaker 1: who he was, they would be saying, Wow, that guy's
- 28:43Speaker 1: in the MVP race here. If you look at the
- 28:45Speaker 1: numbers and what he's done to get the Seahawks team
- 28:48Speaker 1: to where it's at, anyone would be like, Oh, he's
- 28:50Speaker 1: absolutely the MVP race. So I'm not saying Geno's gonna
- 28:53Speaker 1: win an MVP, but he's playing at that level and
- 28:55Speaker 1: I think as weeks go on, we're gonna get more
- 28:57Speaker 1: recognition from that I just talked about a second ago.
- 28:59Speaker 1: The offensive line played really well, kept Gino upright for
- 29:02Speaker 1: most of the game. When we gave up two sacks,
- 29:04Speaker 1: Climac had zero of them. So got a level we're
- 29:06Speaker 1: seeing there this offense. We're just seeing the beginning of
- 29:09Speaker 1: what they can do. Their potential and their ceiling is
- 29:11Speaker 1: incredibly high. Ryan neil Man, he's playing at a very
- 29:15Speaker 1: high level. He's find like a starter in this league.
- 29:18Speaker 1: I know people probably view him as a backup, but
- 29:21Speaker 1: this is why you have depth, especially in the secondary,
- 29:23Speaker 1: with all the struggles they've had in the past. Ever
- 29:25Speaker 1: since Ryan Neills come along, all he's done is make
- 29:28Speaker 1: plays like you mentioned earlier. And then Seahawks won two
- 29:31Speaker 1: games in a row for the first time all year.
- 29:33Speaker 1: That means it's the first time you and I are
- 29:35Speaker 1: getting in the Victic formation back to back weeks. Let's
- 29:38Speaker 1: make it three. Absolutely huge game for the Seahawks taking
- 29:42Speaker 1: down the Chargers thirty seven twenty three. Huge game at
- 29:45Speaker 1: Looming Field next week against the New York Giants, who
- 29:48Speaker 1: are six in one. Yes, the New York Giants six
- 29:51Speaker 1: in one for the first time since I believe the
- 29:52Speaker 1: early two thousands might have been a four, so we'll see.
- 29:55Speaker 1: Hopefully the Seahawks can get it done on Sunday. We'll
- 29:57Speaker 1: be back with you on Wednesday with a preview edition
- 30:00Speaker 1: giving you everything you know about the Giants. He's Michael Bump.
- 30:03Speaker 1: It's some NASA show we remember. You can catch us
- 30:05Speaker 1: anywhere Sehawks dot Com, Apple Podcasts, Google podcast, Stitcher, Serious XM,
- 30:09Speaker 1: and more. Seahawks Beat the Charter thirty seven twenty three.
- 30:13Speaker 1: Talk to you on Wednesday.
