- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the garage.
- 0:30Because you know what I'm going to say it's cold and it's dark
- 0:34and I'm still not out there because it's they're not even
- 0:37awake. It's too dark, too cold.
- 0:39Anyway. So today we are talking about
- 0:42the fact that this is the holiday season and we know we
- 0:46all have plans in our head. We have these fantastical things
- 0:50that we've created. These imaginations of ours are
- 0:53so powerful and so wonderful and they really do help us so much.
- 0:57And then there are times when, you know, I know I can speak for
- 1:00myself with this. My imagination is my best
- 1:03friend. And sometimes it's my worst
- 1:04nightmare because it just goes on and on and on.
- 1:07And one of the things that I, I really know right now is that I
- 1:12can make things up about how I am going to create the
- 1:16absolutely perfect Martha Stewart Christmas and all of a
- 1:20sudden something's going to happen.
- 1:23And then what do I do? What do I do when my plans are
- 1:27not working out? How do I handle this?
- 1:31Well, typically in the past, I have always said, you know, it's
- 1:35OK. And I just, I act fine on the
- 1:38outside. But inside I'm like, I'm trying
- 1:41to manage my state, which I do very well.
- 1:45And most people don't know what's going on.
- 1:47But then I have to deal with me. That's the crazy part.
- 1:50I have to deal with me. And over time, I've really had
- 1:54some adaptations to it. And this year I'm going to do it
- 1:57again because I'll tell you so. My daughter and her husband are
- 2:01coming here for Christmas Day, so it will just be the five of
- 2:06us. And I am cooking.
- 2:08I'm cooking. Now, any of you who know me and
- 2:12follow me regularly, No. I like to bake, but cooking is
- 2:16always a challenge. I have to really like follow
- 2:20recipes. I need to feel really engaged in
- 2:22it. I can't be distracted because my
- 2:24imagination gets in the way and then I start, well, I don't know
- 2:27why they're putting that in. Or maybe I should put a little
- 2:29bit more of this in or that with baking, I always knew from the
- 2:32time I was little with my grandmother, you follow the
- 2:35rules in baking and you don't deviate because if you deviate,
- 2:39you're really not going to get what you wanted.
- 2:41As opposed to when you're cooking.
- 2:43You can deviate and you can still end up with something
- 2:48that's edible. It just might not taste the same
- 2:50way, but it, it doesn't look like such a disaster.
- 2:53With baking, it can look like a disaster.
- 2:55You know, you make one calculation different and you
- 2:57don't have cookies. You have a pan of dough that
- 3:01doesn't even look remotely like a cookie.
- 3:04In any event, I digress. Let's go back to the point of
- 3:07the story. So Needless to say, I am cooking
- 3:11and I am making lasagna and I got it into my head that I was
- 3:15going to make lasagna. Now I I am a big fan, as
- 3:17everyone knows of Martha Stewart and I am also a huge fan of
- 3:21Joanna Gaines and their cookbooks.
- 3:23I love them, love them, love them.
- 3:25And when I do choose to make something and I go into one of
- 3:29these cookbooks, I always feel like I'm going to be able to be
- 3:32successful. So I started looking through the
- 3:35Joanna Gaines books for lasagna. So of course I found a Dutch
- 3:40oven lasagna and I was like oh okay, I'm going to do that.
- 3:44And then I remembered, OK, well wait, I've got to do 2 versions
- 3:47of this because my daughter is completely gluten free.
- 3:50She has celiac, so I have to do a separate set of it.
- 3:54So now I've got to figure out I'm all right, I'm going to
- 3:55double the recipe. And then I was looking in all of
- 3:59the cookbooks she had just to see what else was there.
- 4:01And I found a white chicken Alfredo lasagna.
- 4:05And I was like, OK, I'm going to do that too because I don't
- 4:08really love lasagna. I, I, I'll eat it, but I don't
- 4:12love it. But I do love like white pizza
- 4:15and things like that. Now ironically, my love of
- 4:18tomatoes does not always extend to sauce on pasta.
- 4:22I don't know why, but my tomato Love Is All about other things
- 4:26with tomatoes, but just not always pasta sauce.
- 4:28So I figured all right, I'm going to do these.
- 4:30So I get it into my head. Now I'm doing 3 different
- 4:33lasagnas and I'm going to do a white bean pasta.
- 4:37I mean a white bean dip for the beginning with vegetables and
- 4:41garlic bread. And then I'm doing a brownie ice
- 4:45cream dessert. OK, so now you've got the whole
- 4:47menu laid out. Now here's the thing.
- 4:50What happens if people are late? What happens if my daughter and
- 4:53my son-in-law are late Because these these types of foods have
- 4:57to be eaten right when they're ready.
- 4:59They can't be sitting around. Also, what happens if one of
- 5:03them bombs and it's no good? What happens if someone says,
- 5:07oh, I don't like the taste of that?
- 5:09Or what happens if something else?
- 5:10So I can run all these imagination things in my head
- 5:13about the what ifs, the what ifs, the what ifs, the what ifs,
- 5:15which is fine. And I, and I'm, and I've done
- 5:17that, but the real thing, the real question of what if that
- 5:20happens? OK, great.
- 5:22And how am I going to choose to handle it?
- 5:25So I'm handling all those objections upfront for myself.
- 5:30I'm following the hardcore rules of sales and influence.
- 5:34When something is out there, you handle it upfront, handle the
- 5:37hardcore objections upfront. So as I'm saying this, I'm
- 5:43telling you, put down if you think there are things that
- 5:46could go wrong, whether it's a person talking to you, a person
- 5:49being there, a person being late, you messing up a recipe,
- 5:52something not going right, Run the objection in your head and
- 5:57figure out how you're going to handle it ahead of time.
- 5:59Don't just run like, oh, that might happen, but say, how am I
- 6:03going to handle it? Because that's going to help
- 6:05you. I know I will be and I'm going
- 6:08to be out today getting all my supplies and everything that I
- 6:11need to so that I can make sure I do set myself up to win.
- 6:15And when you do that, it works out way better.
- 6:18All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I
- 6:20will see you tomorrow. Bye.
