- 0:04Speaker 1: All right, where are we at with the big boys here?
- 0:06Speaker 1: We have way too many big, big names on the
- 0:09Speaker 1: free agent market still waiting for the sides to emerge
- 0:14Speaker 1: and say yep, we're in right. Is it teams not
- 0:18Speaker 1: putting together their best offer yet? Is it players asking
- 0:21Speaker 1: for too much? We're gonna talk Kyle Tucker, Cody Bellinger,
- 0:24Speaker 1: Alex Bregman, Boba Schett, and then maybe a couple of
- 0:27Speaker 1: the starters as well. Let's start with Tucker, and we'll
- 0:31Speaker 1: refer to Mark FINESANDMLB dot COM's article just giving us
- 0:34Speaker 1: an update on where things stand with some of the
- 0:36Speaker 1: big boys. He said Toronto remains the favorite, Mets can't
- 0:40Speaker 1: be counted out. If the Yankees are prepared to spend big,
- 0:43Speaker 1: it's likely going to be for Bellinger. And we'll get
- 0:45Speaker 1: to Bellinger next because John Hayman wrote that there's an
- 0:48Speaker 1: official offer out this week, a formal proposal. But let
- 0:52Speaker 1: us begin with Kyle Tucker. Do you think the Blue
- 0:55Speaker 1: Jays end up with him? Based on what we've seen,
- 0:57Speaker 1: and it seems like they have the highest bid out
- 0:59Speaker 1: there right now, but they also love Bobaschett, and I
- 1:04Speaker 1: don't know if they're going to bring in both. Everyone
- 1:05Speaker 1: wants to see that if you buy what the Blue
- 1:08Speaker 1: Jays were selling during the past what several months here,
- 1:12Speaker 1: Todd father, how the Blue Jays. I mean, they really
- 1:14Speaker 1: took a step up. They won the Division, they made
- 1:16Speaker 1: the World Series, almost won the World Series, and they've
- 1:18Speaker 1: been spending this offseason.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that's the that's the spot he should
- 1:22Speaker 2: go to. Then what about Bo? Yeah, and that that's
- 1:26Speaker 2: where I I like what I'm used to. I like
- 1:30Speaker 2: somebody who's been there before. I like somebody that the
- 1:33Speaker 2: fans love and enjoy. You know, it's a great story
- 1:36Speaker 2: with his father playing, him playing, and it's just he
- 1:39Speaker 2: fits the mold of Toronto Blue Jays in my opinion,
- 1:42Speaker 2: he came back after he was injured and basically play.
- 1:45Speaker 2: I thought he played pretty well. He's a good hitter
- 1:47Speaker 2: and did some good things. He moved over to second base.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Like there's there's a lot of upsides still with Bob
- 1:53Speaker 2: bashett I still think they should keep him. I think
- 1:57Speaker 2: they should keep both. Man. I don't understand, take them both.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Why can't you take them both? Spend that cash? You
- 2:04Speaker 2: know what I mean? Teams are doing it and it's
- 2:08Speaker 2: hard it's hard because we don't know who else is
- 2:09Speaker 2: in the mix. We don't know how much money is
- 2:11Speaker 2: being involved. So but my first if I'm the Blue Jays,
- 2:14Speaker 2: I'm bringing back Bow in my opinion, First, yeah, yeah,
- 2:19Speaker 2: I would. I would think he'd be the priority.
- 2:22Speaker 3: I don't know that I agree with Todd. I'm not saying,
- 2:26Speaker 3: you know, based based on money, you're gonna pay less
- 2:29Speaker 3: for Bo if that's what it's about. I think the
- 2:32Speaker 3: Blue Jays are recency biased. They're like money, screw that.
- 2:37Speaker 3: I want another ring. I want to resemble what we
- 2:40Speaker 3: did in ninety two ninety three, and I think the
- 2:43Speaker 3: Blue Jays want to bring that and have shown that
- 2:46Speaker 3: that's the route they're going going after Dylan Cee so early,
- 2:50Speaker 3: giving him probably a little bit more than what they thought.
- 2:54Speaker 3: So I don't think this is a money thing. And
- 2:56Speaker 3: I think the value of Kyle Tucker added to this
- 3:00Speaker 3: lineup outweighs the value of bobashek because once, once the
- 3:05Speaker 3: money's paid, once we're over the luxury tax. Under the
- 3:08Speaker 3: luxury tax, all you have is the product out on
- 3:11Speaker 3: the field. Kyle Tucker will be a better offensive player.
- 3:16Speaker 3: If both players stay healthy, It's apples to apples, he'll
- 3:20Speaker 3: be a better offensive contributor to this lineup. And I
- 3:23Speaker 3: also think it makes this lineup and this defensive configuration
- 3:28Speaker 3: that the team could put out there a better defense
- 3:32Speaker 3: and overall team because of the fact that if you
- 3:35Speaker 3: bring bo back we talked about before, does he play
- 3:39Speaker 3: second base? And if he does, that's fine, But now
- 3:43Speaker 3: you're running Ernie Clement at third more of an offensive
- 3:47Speaker 3: position that if you would have Barger at third, now
- 3:49Speaker 3: you're talking about more power at third and played well,
- 3:53Speaker 3: Barger wouldn't have to go to right Santander's locking down
- 3:56Speaker 3: the dah. So there's a lot of pieces that move.
- 3:58Speaker 3: And I think just if you're going player to player,
- 4:02Speaker 3: not worrying about the money, Kyle Tucker is the route
- 4:06Speaker 3: the Blue Jays should go because he.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Doesn't need to be the superstar.
- 4:10Speaker 3: And we have to remember, if we rewind back to
- 4:14Speaker 3: twenty twenty four, I think there was possibly some hurt
- 4:18Speaker 3: feelings from Bobashet. I think there's possibly some feelings like, Okay,
- 4:23Speaker 3: you know, I'm not having a great year. Maybe he
- 4:26Speaker 3: wasn't getting the extension talks that Vladdie was getting, like
- 4:30Speaker 3: is this gonna be my last year went out had
- 4:32Speaker 3: a banger year. I don't know that he's forgotten that.
- 4:36Speaker 3: And I'm completely saying this only on my own. I
- 4:40Speaker 3: think the Kyle Tucker spot for the for Kyle Tucker
- 4:44Speaker 3: is in Toronto, and I think the Blue Jay fans
- 4:47Speaker 3: would really like seeing him in right field.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Part of why I think he'll land in Toronto is
- 4:52Speaker 1: that I think they have the best offer out, or
- 4:54Speaker 1: the best idea of an offer.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Right.
- 4:56Speaker 1: A lot of times, it's not a real offer until
- 4:58Speaker 1: you say I'm interested. It's the most awkward situation. We
- 5:02Speaker 1: can get into that another day. We've done it in
- 5:03Speaker 1: the past, right, you don't want to formally say it.
- 5:06Speaker 1: But anyway, I don't know who else is offering that
- 5:11Speaker 1: level cash to Kyle Tucker. We don't even know what
- 5:13Speaker 1: the money is. I just think that the Blue Jays
- 5:15Speaker 1: are going to offer more if they seriously are interested
- 5:17Speaker 1: in Kyle Tucker. Name another team that you think is
- 5:20Speaker 1: going to play ball at the I don't know. Let's
- 5:22Speaker 1: just say three hundred million plus range three fifty, whatever
- 5:26Speaker 1: it is. It doesn't sound like it's the Yankees. For
- 5:29Speaker 1: a while, I thought maybe it's the Yankees. I'm saying
- 5:32Speaker 1: not this offseason, but heading into the twenty twenty five season,
- 5:36Speaker 1: clubs acquire him. We know the Cubs aren't going to
- 5:40Speaker 1: play ball like that, even though they should. We can
- 5:42Speaker 1: talk all day about that. They were not going to
- 5:44Speaker 1: make a real offer to Kyle Tucker. They just brought
- 5:47Speaker 1: him in as a one year rental. This kind of
- 5:49Speaker 1: moves us to the next part of the conversation here
- 5:52Speaker 1: Todd father John Hayman reports formal proposal made to Cody
- 5:56Speaker 1: Bellinger from the Yankees, And if anything, we've I've seen
- 6:01Speaker 1: insiders talk about how Tucker's essentially a backup plan. That's
- 6:05Speaker 1: a backup plan. It's going to cost a lot more
- 6:07Speaker 1: than Cody Bellinger. So to me, it means the Yankees
- 6:10Speaker 1: aren't really interested in Tucker unless they are playing their
- 6:13Speaker 1: hand really, really slyly. It sounds like Bellinger is their target.
- 6:17Speaker 1: They liked him. You know, you watched a lot of
- 6:19Speaker 1: Yanks this year and covered Cody over there. It seemed
- 6:22Speaker 1: like he was happy and that the fits there, and
- 6:24Speaker 1: they're just dancing a little bit over what the final
- 6:26Speaker 1: number is going to look like.
- 6:27Speaker 2: I think one hundred percent what you're the last part
- 6:30Speaker 2: you said they're dancing. I think it's coming down to money.
- 6:33Speaker 2: I think I think they both want a reunion. I
- 6:35Speaker 2: think they both want to be with each other. It
- 6:37Speaker 2: sounds funny we're talking like, yeah, they both want to
- 6:41Speaker 2: be with each other.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Of course they're getting back together.
- 6:43Speaker 2: I think that's great that there's a proposal, and that's
- 6:46Speaker 2: the first starting ground. Just like in any business, you
- 6:48Speaker 2: start off here, Oh, you're crazy, I can't believe your
- 6:51Speaker 2: son me that. Then hopefully they meet on an even ground.
- 6:53Speaker 2: But I don't think Cody wants to go anywhere else.
- 6:57Speaker 2: You know, they say the Mets have been connected. Two
- 7:00Speaker 2: is why the Mets are always trying to find their way
- 7:02Speaker 2: into things they are now Yeah used to but yeah,
- 7:05Speaker 2: for sure. But I think the two sides will ultimately
- 7:08Speaker 2: come together and figure something out. But these things take
- 7:11Speaker 2: time and then they're like, oh, we'll get back to it,
- 7:14Speaker 2: and then they look somewhere. Then it's nothing. The grass
- 7:16Speaker 2: isn't always so greener on the other side.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Yeah, to me, this one seems like it's happening. Crats.
- 7:20Speaker 1: I think the Yankees are going to give him the
- 7:22Speaker 1: best offer and he's going to take it. I just
- 7:23Speaker 1: don't know when that's going to be and I think
- 7:26Speaker 1: it's probably going to be five years, when someone like
- 7:30Speaker 1: Cody might want six or seven. It could you know what,
- 7:33Speaker 1: I take that back, It could end up being in
- 7:35Speaker 1: a six or seven range. A'llah dj lemayhew much lower
- 7:40Speaker 1: average annual value than he would get for the Yankees.
- 7:43Speaker 1: They actually benefit from doing deals like this. It's not
- 7:46Speaker 1: just having the player for a longer period of time.
- 7:48Speaker 1: It actually just has more to do with them paying
- 7:51Speaker 1: less of a fee, less of attacks on the luxury
- 7:54Speaker 1: tax number that they're going to go past.
- 7:57Speaker 3: And Cody's been through. It's Cody's Cody's been through all
- 8:01Speaker 3: this song and dance. Wow, you know, we just don't
- 8:03Speaker 3: know what you're gonna have.
- 8:04Speaker 2: You sign.
- 8:05Speaker 3: You have a great year with the Cubs, Hey, you
- 8:07Speaker 3: sign this other short term deal. I think Cody's I
- 8:11Speaker 3: would say he's thirty years old, he's it's time for
- 8:16Speaker 3: him to get a six year deal. I bet other
- 8:17Speaker 3: teams will put five out there. I think he's worth seven,
- 8:23Speaker 3: but I think he'll settle in six because of his versatility.
- 8:26Speaker 3: He's going to age differently because of the fact that
- 8:30Speaker 3: he is able to play center field right now. Can
- 8:33Speaker 3: he play center field for them for two years. Yeah,
- 8:38Speaker 3: but you got Trent Grisham back so he can play left.
- 8:41Speaker 3: And he's going to be fine there for maybe three
- 8:43Speaker 3: or four years of the contract. Maybe they don't figure
- 8:46Speaker 3: out first base, maybe ben Rice starts catching a little
- 8:49Speaker 3: bit more. His versatility is way way bigger of a
- 8:53Speaker 3: value than I think anybody on the free agent market
- 8:57Speaker 3: this year. And I think that's where he would like
- 9:00Speaker 3: to get paid. But I also think that's where his
- 9:02Speaker 3: value to the Yankees is.
- 9:04Speaker 1: That one seems easy. Let's go to Alex Bregman. In
- 9:10Speaker 1: this article, it says Bregman's market is seemingly included as
- 9:13Speaker 1: many as a half dozen teams connected to him throughout
- 9:16Speaker 1: the off season Blue Jays, Diamondbacks, Cubs, Red Sox, Tigers said.
- 9:21Speaker 1: It seems like Detroit doesn't appear to be in the
- 9:24Speaker 1: same range as they were last year, which was six
- 9:26Speaker 1: years one to seventy one and a half with some
- 9:28Speaker 1: deferred money. Sources believe the Blue Jays and Diamondbacks may
- 9:31Speaker 1: be the two most aggressive clubs in the hunt for
- 9:35Speaker 1: Alex Bregman. What are we thinking here?
- 9:40Speaker 2: I like all those teams. I think he'd be happy
- 9:42Speaker 2: with any of those teams then might be happy with them,
- 9:45Speaker 2: but come down to Cotch.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Okay, So let's let's start with the last part of
- 9:52Speaker 1: what I just said here. Blue Jays and Diamonbacks maybe
- 9:54Speaker 1: the two most aggressive in the hunt. Now, does that
- 9:56Speaker 1: include the Blue Jays landing Tucker and or Bo? I
- 10:02Speaker 1: mean probably, obviously it's not Bow and Bragman. But for example,
- 10:05Speaker 1: let's let's go back to Tucker. If the Blue Jays
- 10:07Speaker 1: get Tucker, they're really going to play for Bregman too.
- 10:10Speaker 1: I doubt that. Gratz, Yeah, I'm with you. I'm buying
- 10:13Speaker 1: a little bit of what the Diamondbacks are selling me.
- 10:15Speaker 1: They do some deferral action long term. You don't see it.
- 10:19Speaker 1: You don't think they'll do something like that.
- 10:21Speaker 2: I don't.
- 10:22Speaker 1: You don't think they Alex Bregman.
- 10:25Speaker 3: I would love it. Kendrick has shown me that he
- 10:29Speaker 3: can do some things that I didn't see happening. No,
- 10:34Speaker 3: I don't. I don't see it. And it's not because
- 10:36Speaker 3: of the Diamondbacks. I don't see it because I don't
- 10:38Speaker 3: see how the Red Sox say thanks for all you
- 10:41Speaker 3: did for our young guys. We did here just the
- 10:44Speaker 3: other day, what Roman Anthony said about Alex Bregman. We
- 10:48Speaker 3: did hear what Marcella Meyer said about Alex Bregman. No, Like,
- 10:53Speaker 3: it's not it. I just don't think the Red Sox
- 10:55Speaker 3: are going to allow it to happen. That's that's my opinion.
- 10:59Speaker 3: I think the Red Sox have shifted from that. Like,
- 11:04Speaker 3: I don't know, you know, we're in NASCAR, We're in
- 11:07Speaker 3: We're in soccer, We're in we're in hockey, you know,
- 11:11Speaker 3: Fenway Sports, all that stuff. No, I think I think
- 11:15Speaker 3: the Red Sox know and see that they have a
- 11:17Speaker 3: window that's probably you know, could be a four to
- 11:21Speaker 3: five year window here, and I think they're willing to
- 11:25Speaker 3: to go as far as they as they need to
- 11:28Speaker 3: go with Alex Bregmant and the more teams that that
- 11:31Speaker 3: Boris can say are in the bigger number of the
- 11:35Speaker 3: Red Sox are gonna have to pay.
- 11:38Speaker 1: You don't think that the Red Sox might play ball
- 11:41Speaker 1: with Boba Schett instead to the front office says, hey,
- 11:44Speaker 1: it's the younger player. Good makeup there too. It's not
- 11:47Speaker 1: it's not the Bregmant impact, where you basically have one
- 11:50Speaker 1: of the top coaches in the sport who's actively an
- 11:53Speaker 1: All star.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Listen what these teams are all battling right now? And
- 11:57Speaker 2: I think it's great. I think it's great because the
- 12:00Speaker 2: agent's going, oh, you know Red Sox, what do you
- 12:03Speaker 2: got for pregnant? Okay? Cool? Did you have anything on Tucker?
- 12:06Speaker 2: How about Ballinger? Like this, it's like a chess match.
- 12:09Speaker 2: And I think the agent who's is bors agents with
- 12:13Speaker 2: all these guys are am I wrong? No? All right? But
- 12:15Speaker 2: Boris has a couple of them, right.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Yeah, he's he's mean, he's got Ballinger. He's having a
- 12:23Speaker 1: player though.
- 12:24Speaker 2: This might be the most fun time he's ever had
- 12:26Speaker 2: right now because there's four to six teams on here.
- 12:29Speaker 2: Then this other team comes in like, well, what's the offer?
- 12:33Speaker 2: What do you got? What do you got? Because guess
- 12:35Speaker 2: what if you don't do it what we want? This
- 12:37Speaker 2: other team like this is this is really it's a
- 12:39Speaker 2: fascinating time. You wish they would, you know, get off
- 12:42Speaker 2: the pot here and figure it out.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Because who Yeah, that's the question.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Somebody needs to do somebody needs to be the bigg
- 12:48Speaker 2: like and that's why you know, he's the Hayman's Report,
- 12:51Speaker 2: former proposal for Bellinger with the Yankees. That's a start
- 12:55Speaker 2: and then when that chip falls, then all of a sudden,
- 12:57Speaker 2: now the agent's like, oh, shoot, we lost one team already,
- 12:59Speaker 2: so like they're in a particular situation right now that
- 13:04Speaker 2: I'm like, all right, well, let's see what happens with
- 13:06Speaker 2: all these guys and all these teams that want everybody.
- 13:09Speaker 1: And fans get pissed because we're in January and we're
- 13:11Speaker 1: talking about this. Yeah, this has more to do with
- 13:17Speaker 1: teams slow playing than agents. In my opinion, the agencies
- 13:21Speaker 1: the money offer they're in right, because you know, you
- 13:23Speaker 1: have fans that are going to blame both sides, and
- 13:25Speaker 1: both sides can be blamed to an extent. Every case
- 13:27Speaker 1: is different, but it is rare that a superstar player
- 13:31Speaker 1: gets his best offer in November, now even in December.
- 13:34Speaker 1: Do you know what I'm saying to me and Kratz.
- 13:37Speaker 1: I try to simplify things, and for some people they
- 13:39Speaker 1: appreciate it. For others they try and get really nitpicky.
- 13:41Speaker 1: But I'm just saying. A team will plug the player
- 13:45Speaker 1: into their model and spit out a number and tell
- 13:48Speaker 1: their boss, their owner, this is what the player is
- 13:50Speaker 1: worth on the market. They have a conversation with the
- 13:53Speaker 1: players representation about that number, the player's representation says, that's cool,
- 13:58Speaker 1: thanks for the interest. We'll keep shopping. Eventually an owner
- 14:03Speaker 1: will get pushed and go over what that projected number
- 14:06Speaker 1: is to actually win the player, because they all have
- 14:09Speaker 1: the same projections. That is the very simple version of
- 14:12Speaker 1: how this works. Right, there's probably you know, one hundred
- 14:16Speaker 1: and thirty five miliums strung out random numbers to player X,
- 14:19Speaker 1: and at some point an owner is going to be like,
- 14:22Speaker 1: screw it, let's let's get him the extra year and
- 14:24Speaker 1: get him to one fifty five, and then the deal
- 14:27Speaker 1: is done. That's just how this works. But it doesn't happen.
- 14:29Speaker 1: It takes a while. I can tell you this for
- 14:32Speaker 1: a fact. It happened last year with Bregman. The Red
- 14:34Speaker 1: Sox did not have a number like that out there
- 14:36Speaker 1: until late until what that was spring training when he
- 14:40Speaker 1: finally got brought in. They didn't have that offer out
- 14:42Speaker 1: there for a long time, and they get the phone call, Hey,
- 14:46Speaker 1: the Tigers are here. Bregman likes you guys, but it's
- 14:49Speaker 1: got to get to this number. I don't know whatever.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Friends of John Henry talk them into it. Boom, deal
- 14:55Speaker 1: is done. That's a fact. That's how that deal is done.
- 14:57Speaker 1: So when you say it's a slog and it's annoying,
- 14:59Speaker 1: it's you usually that the teams don't give their best
- 15:02Speaker 1: offers out until later and later in the off season.
- 15:06Speaker 3: They don't give it or any offer, not even just
- 15:09Speaker 3: their best offer, any offer. Like we're talking about guys
- 15:12Speaker 3: getting calls.
- 15:14Speaker 2: Pete A.
- 15:15Speaker 3: Lonzo was just going, oh yeah, you know, the Orioles
- 15:17Speaker 3: called early, and they showed how much they were interested.
- 15:20Speaker 3: They showed me their plan, they showed he didn't say,
- 15:24Speaker 3: they made their offer and that was their offer, and
- 15:26Speaker 3: you know it was out there. So my conspiracy theory
- 15:32Speaker 3: self says, why are all the top guys, why are
- 15:37Speaker 3: we not hearing what the offers are now this job?
- 15:39Speaker 3: You know the report about John Hayman coming out that
- 15:42Speaker 3: there's a formal offer to Cody Bellinger. Well, the reason
- 15:46Speaker 3: is that we don't have the actual offers out there
- 15:49Speaker 3: is because the teams aren't making the offers yet. They're
- 15:52Speaker 3: doing the song and dance like like, send the note across.
- 15:57Speaker 3: Do you want to play for us? Check yes or no? No,
- 16:00Speaker 3: send a note across. We're gonna give you two hundred
- 16:03Speaker 3: million dollars. We think you are this player. If we
- 16:07Speaker 3: want this off season to go faster, we have to
- 16:10Speaker 3: figure out a way to make sure the industry is
- 16:13Speaker 3: not trying to squash some of these guys salaries. The
- 16:18Speaker 3: industry wants to squash the middle class player because there's
- 16:21Speaker 3: way more middle class players. These guys are the most
- 16:25Speaker 3: coveted guys on the free agent market, and I think
- 16:28Speaker 3: Boris is doing a great job of making sure that
- 16:32Speaker 3: the other guys are off the table, making sure Murakama
- 16:35Speaker 3: Mrikami is off the table before another third basement Alex
- 16:40Speaker 3: Bregman signs. Are they in the same Are they in
- 16:42Speaker 3: the same boat. No, they're not the same player. But
- 16:45Speaker 3: there's there's reasons that you wait, and there's reasons that
- 16:49Speaker 3: teams wait, and they're two different reasons.
- 16:52Speaker 2: To me.
- 16:52Speaker 3: I think each one of these guys added to any
- 16:55Speaker 3: of the I'm trying to go through the through the
- 16:57Speaker 3: list here. Any of these.
- 16:58Speaker 1: Guys not third, But I get what you're saying.
- 17:01Speaker 3: He was a third baseman, but he was. He was
- 17:04Speaker 3: out there on the market as a third baseman. He's
- 17:06Speaker 3: not going to now play third. But any of these
- 17:09Speaker 3: guys on here increase your opportunity to not just make
- 17:14Speaker 3: the playoffs, but to win a World Series, and when
- 17:18Speaker 3: teams don't make these offers, you as a fan have
- 17:22Speaker 3: to question how much does my team really want to
- 17:26Speaker 3: push to take that final step to win a World Series.
- 17:31Speaker 1: Well, let's get to the pitching too. From this article,
- 17:34Speaker 1: I'll pair them together. Framber Baldez Ranger Suarez. Fine Sen
- 17:39Speaker 1: said the Oriols and Mets have been the two clubs
- 17:40Speaker 1: most often connected to Valdez. We know if it's Mets,
- 17:44Speaker 1: he's not getting a six year deal or something. I mean,
- 17:46Speaker 1: they're playing really in the way that the Dodgers want
- 17:50Speaker 1: to play for the most part, with these high average
- 17:53Speaker 1: annual value deals but less length than what some other
- 17:56Speaker 1: teams are going to offer. And then he said, ranger
- 17:58Speaker 1: Suarez is also being linked to the Men and the Orioles.
- 18:00Speaker 1: My thing with the starting pitching market crats is that
- 18:03Speaker 1: I do believe there's a disconnect between what most of
- 18:08Speaker 1: the top end starters available left think that they're going
- 18:12Speaker 1: to get and what teams are throwing out there. I
- 18:14Speaker 1: actually think that one could be more of a stall
- 18:16Speaker 1: on the player's side. Someone like Dylan Seese throws that
- 18:19Speaker 1: market off. I don't think these guys are getting the
- 18:21Speaker 1: Dylan Sees contract. But you look and you're like, well,
- 18:24Speaker 1: I put up just as good or better numbers than
- 18:27Speaker 1: Dylan Sees. Okay, Well, the industry loves him because he's
- 18:30Speaker 1: got great swing and miss, and some people, including the
- 18:33Speaker 1: Blue Jays, think untapped potential. Framber and Ranger have different
- 18:39Speaker 1: weaknesses that hold them back a little bit more. In
- 18:42Speaker 1: my mind, right, we've got over both of them. I
- 18:45Speaker 1: mean for Ranger even, I mean, he pitches, but he's
- 18:48Speaker 1: not putting together full seasons every year, and they're gonna
- 18:51Speaker 1: hold that against him.
- 18:53Speaker 3: But then you pump up his postseason numbers. I was
- 18:56Speaker 3: just looking up his postseason numbers. It's ridiculous. But you
- 19:00Speaker 3: know where's that value? Who's going to pay it? The
- 19:03Speaker 3: Blue Jays are trying to buy on that upside. To me,
- 19:08Speaker 3: I think if Framber and I'm looking the age difference,
- 19:12Speaker 3: is cease thirty or is he twenty nine thirty?
- 19:16Speaker 1: I'll tell you in thirty seconds. He's thirty, he think
- 19:22Speaker 1: on the twenty.
- 19:22Speaker 3: Consistency, So they're rate at that same age. Rangers a
- 19:26Speaker 3: little bit younger, so I don't think years older. I'm sorry,
- 19:31Speaker 3: did I say younger.
- 19:33Speaker 1: No, No, Ranger, you're right, Rangers the same age, but
- 19:36Speaker 1: Framber is two years older, he's thirty two.
- 19:38Speaker 3: Yes, yes, So to me, I think the same AAV
- 19:42Speaker 3: is there because you don't have to question the there's
- 19:47Speaker 3: questions about Dylan Cease that the Blue Jay said, No,
- 19:50Speaker 3: we're buying the upside of Dylan Cease. Framber Valdez is
- 19:53Speaker 3: more of the sure fire. He's going to make his
- 19:57Speaker 3: thirty two starts. So to me, it's a team that's
- 20:00Speaker 3: gonna say and that's why I think the Mets are
- 20:01Speaker 3: gonna do it. I think the met I think that's
- 20:03Speaker 3: where the Mets are gonna say, we'll go five years.
- 20:06Speaker 3: Why because he's gonna make his starts and everyone's gonna say, well,
- 20:10Speaker 3: what about the thing about you know, throwing at Salas
- 20:13Speaker 3: are his own catcher and all it? You cleaned up
- 20:18Speaker 3: Supposedly you cleaned up your clubhouse, you know, with some
- 20:21Speaker 3: clubhouse issues, which I think have been overblown, because I
- 20:24Speaker 3: don't think Pete Alonzo Nemo or Edwin Diaz were the
- 20:27Speaker 3: clubhouse issues. I just think they didn't want to pay
- 20:29Speaker 3: those guys. To me, I think Framber solidifies rotation in
- 20:35Speaker 3: the sense of starts. You need to make sure there's
- 20:38Speaker 3: somebody that's gonna go out there and give you six
- 20:40Speaker 3: plus innings for thirty two starts. And I think that's
- 20:43Speaker 3: where Framber's at. And I don't think Ranger is. I
- 20:46Speaker 3: think Rangers more of like an Oriole signing slash. You know, yeah,
- 20:56Speaker 3: he'll be too longer of a compet comment section.
- 20:59Speaker 1: I think Mets Framber Rangers. I mean Rangers fires to
- 21:05Speaker 1: the Orioles, Framber Valdez to the Mets.
- 21:07Speaker 2: And I just think at the last point, I'll make
- 21:08Speaker 2: here to button this up, like as time goes on here,
- 21:12Speaker 2: whatever number you wanted, it's not going to be the number.
- 21:15Speaker 2: You got to kind of get on this now, even though,
- 21:18Speaker 2: and then you got GMS and brass that are like,
- 21:20Speaker 2: well we're not ready yet. Well then it always comes
- 21:22Speaker 2: back to them, and they always figure out a way
- 21:24Speaker 2: to get what they want, these bigger guys. Like it's
- 21:28Speaker 2: the time if I'm in a if I'm a player
- 21:30Speaker 2: right now and I'm one of these guys, hey man,
- 21:32Speaker 2: put an offer out now, like let's just try something,
- 21:34Speaker 2: see what they say, hopefully, and we'll get some banter
- 21:36Speaker 2: back and forth.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Last one for me, I just want to sneak in
- 21:41Speaker 1: Okamoto too, and we can spend more time on him
- 21:45Speaker 1: Monday because he'll be signed by then. His deadline is
- 21:50Speaker 1: Monday to sign. And I think he's going to be
- 21:53Speaker 1: a good ball player. He doesn't have the contact issues
- 21:55Speaker 1: at all that Murray Commy has. He should be a
- 21:57Speaker 1: much better defender too at first base. He can play
- 22:00Speaker 1: some third, it appears, but I think he'll sign as
- 22:02Speaker 1: a first baseman. Really good numbers and contact on base,
- 22:06Speaker 1: A little bit of pop kind of gives you that
- 22:08Speaker 1: whole thing. Maybe there's some questions about contact, I mean
- 22:11Speaker 1: about pop and how much it'll play in the big leagues.
- 22:13Speaker 1: He's twenty nine years old. He should be right in
- 22:15Speaker 1: the thick of some prime years for a few seasons.
- 22:19Speaker 1: And he's got to essentially signed by Sunday, January fourth,
- 22:21Speaker 1: the fifth deadline. But you got to pass the physical
- 22:23Speaker 1: and they get that stuff done. So that's why you
- 22:25Speaker 1: usually see the Japanese guys go right up until about
- 22:28Speaker 1: twenty four hours before, so that he can have the time,
- 22:31Speaker 1: you know, sign on the fourth at five PM. You
- 22:33Speaker 1: get to wherever you gotta go, get your physical done
- 22:35Speaker 1: that morning, and boom, you sign and you do the
- 22:38Speaker 1: intro press conference. But Okamoto, it sounds like, let's see,
- 22:43Speaker 1: I'm trying to remember who put this out there. Francis
- 22:46Speaker 1: Romero said, Angels, padres pirates and on Okamoto love.
- 22:52Speaker 2: This guy first and third basement kind of Well, Mike
- 22:55Speaker 2: is a.
- 22:56Speaker 1: Little bit less pop than you.
- 22:57Speaker 2: Yeah, well that's a shame.
- 23:01Speaker 1: Might I think he might have more contact, got less
- 23:05Speaker 1: A lot of people do.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Yeah, but imagine, I was just thinking when you were
- 23:08Speaker 2: saying this, they got till January fourth, Like imagine, like
- 23:11Speaker 2: all free agents, they put them in a category, and like, hey,
- 23:14Speaker 2: you got till February. You got till January fourth to
- 23:17Speaker 2: sign Todd Fraser. I think that would be fantastic, do you.
- 23:20Speaker 1: I think the league once really, because they're gonna call
- 23:22Speaker 1: all everybody at one time.
- 23:26Speaker 2: I wasn't done. But the only bad part about that
- 23:28Speaker 2: whole thing is what happens if nobody signed is then
- 23:31Speaker 2: what what what comes up? What comes of it?
- 23:33Speaker 1: You know, eventually you have to be able to sign
- 23:35Speaker 1: again at some point.
- 23:36Speaker 2: Yeah, then that's why wait, but that's why my point
- 23:39Speaker 2: My point is mute. Yes, but I was just saying, theoretically,
- 23:41Speaker 2: what happens if that was the case, it would be
- 23:43Speaker 2: pretty and put your thumb up, jack ass. I was.
- 23:46Speaker 2: I wasn't trying to be cute or anything. There you go.
- 23:48Speaker 1: Let's do this futures for al Rookie of the Year
- 23:51Speaker 1: bet MGM odds Trey is Savage plus two hundred. Wow,
- 23:54Speaker 1: two to one odds for Trey, and then Munataka Commi's
- 23:58Speaker 1: at plus three fifty. That's a I plus three fifty
- 24:03Speaker 1: or you can pick rookies off the board. But we're
- 24:06Speaker 1: just showing you the top three for now. Man, that's
- 24:08Speaker 1: too high for your Savage. He's great, obviously, but he
- 24:12Speaker 1: pitched his ass off deep into October. They're going to
- 24:14Speaker 1: manage those innings.
- 24:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that's way too high. I yeah, I
- 24:22Speaker 2: think he's gonna do good. But I don't know about
- 24:24Speaker 2: Ale Rookie Day. I hope he does. I like him.
- 24:26Speaker 2: I like him a lot. I would love to see
- 24:27Speaker 2: like the top ten twenty of them. I haven't checked,
- 24:30Speaker 2: but I don't. I don't see any of these three
- 24:32Speaker 2: winning the Rookie of the Year right now, right now.
- 24:34Speaker 2: But I'm saying that without looking at the whole list.
- 24:37Speaker 2: I feel like, Yeah, these guys are going to be good,
- 24:39Speaker 2: but we'll see. It's gonna take some time from our
- 24:42Speaker 2: comma am I to get used to, you know, play
- 24:44Speaker 2: the United States. You Savage had a great, great playoff career,
- 24:48Speaker 2: but we want to see him through a whole year.
- 24:51Speaker 2: People are like, oh, man, you're you're just being bitter.
- 24:53Speaker 2: I'm no, I'm not. I'm just I'm just from futures
- 24:57Speaker 2: and seeing how guys are. You got to see a
- 24:58Speaker 2: whole one sixty two out a lot these guys, so
- 25:01Speaker 2: two hundred. I thought it'd be like seven eight hundred
- 25:03Speaker 2: if you want the truth. But maybe they know something
- 25:07Speaker 2: we don't know.
- 25:07Speaker 1: Well, they're also saying that they don't love the rookie class.
- 25:10Speaker 1: If you have someone at two to one already, we'll see.
- 25:15Speaker 2: I mean, don't you.
- 25:16Speaker 3: Think Yeah, I mean I think there. I think that's
- 25:20Speaker 3: it's based on the money too. I think it's just
- 25:22Speaker 3: tough to say a guy that young is going to
- 25:25Speaker 3: have a workload large enough to win the Rookie of
- 25:28Speaker 3: the Year. And I think his unique The interesting part
- 25:31Speaker 3: about it for me, the reason I wouldn't is because
- 25:33Speaker 3: of his uniqueness in pitching. Are people going to be
- 25:38Speaker 3: able to figure him out the second time? Through. He
- 25:41Speaker 3: might make an All Star team, but then are they
- 25:44Speaker 3: going to be able to figure him out? So that's
- 25:45Speaker 3: where I don't know, because it's such a unique release
- 25:49Speaker 3: point to me, I'm looking more at the position player.
- 25:53Speaker 3: I'm going down the list. You know, does Kevin McGonagall.
- 25:58Speaker 3: Does he make the team? Because the Tiger don't sign
- 26:00Speaker 3: anybody if he does. You know, I think this is
- 26:03Speaker 3: a guy that smashes fastballs. I think a guy that
- 26:06Speaker 3: made his debut in the playoffs last year, Chase the
- 26:10Speaker 3: lawder do just Chase the latter get five hundred and
- 26:14Speaker 3: fifty at bats. When you talk about position players, obviously
- 26:17Speaker 3: it's all about health, but it's more about how the
- 26:19Speaker 3: organization's going to deploy them when they're in the big
- 26:23Speaker 3: leagues and you just accumulate a lot of at bats
- 26:25Speaker 3: and you might hit two eighty, you might hit you
- 26:27Speaker 3: might run into twenty homers and that can win you.
- 26:30Speaker 3: You know, that can win you Rookie of the year.
- 26:32Speaker 3: You have like a Drake Baldwin type of year.
- 26:35Speaker 1: I actually think there's value with the next two here.
- 26:38Speaker 1: I mean, Murkami is either going to.
- 26:43Speaker 2: No.
- 26:44Speaker 1: You think it'll be an adjustment period.
- 26:46Speaker 3: H NO.
- 26:46Speaker 2: I think.
- 26:47Speaker 1: I think there's a chance he could still hit a
- 26:49Speaker 1: ton of bombs and he's gonna play it or he's
- 26:51Speaker 1: gonna get at bats every day, so that helps. And
- 26:53Speaker 1: then for me, I'm on the high side with him.
- 26:56Speaker 1: I I think that the industry is wrong on this
- 26:59Speaker 1: one and that he's going to be a number, say
- 27:02Speaker 1: two starter, And if that's the case, he's super underpaid
- 27:06Speaker 1: and undervalued this offseason. And if he stays on the field,
- 27:09Speaker 1: which I mean, I don't think his injury history is
- 27:13Speaker 1: deeper than almost any other pitcher, I think he's gonna
- 27:16Speaker 1: win it. I think he's gonna be great. And you're
- 27:19Speaker 1: looking at him for the first time, remember, I mean,
- 27:22Speaker 1: you're seeing a guy who's pretty unique. He has that
- 27:24Speaker 1: super he's got the savage slider right that the teams
- 27:28Speaker 1: do love, and that I don't think the models really
- 27:30Speaker 1: know how to how to price out yet because there's
- 27:33Speaker 1: only a few guys that have it. So I think
- 27:35Speaker 1: for me, that's where I'd be spending my money. And
- 27:38Speaker 1: I actually like it. You know, sometimes we shy away
- 27:40Speaker 1: from these scrats. I like that. I like to play
- 27:42Speaker 1: for am I in this case, at plus three fifty,
- 27:45Speaker 1: I think he could get off to a hot start.
- 27:48Speaker 1: And yeah, even if he's part of a six man rotation,
- 27:51Speaker 1: that'll help him. Most of the guys that come over
- 27:54Speaker 1: from Japan are in a six man rotation, and if not,
- 27:56Speaker 1: they need one at least to start their career.
- 27:59Speaker 2: That's fair.
- 28:00Speaker 3: And you know he doesn't need to amass two hundred
- 28:02Speaker 3: innings like I think he would need to for like
- 28:05Speaker 3: a Cy Young or one hundred and eighty innings. So yeah,
- 28:08Speaker 3: I hear what you're saying for me with Mori Kami.
- 28:12Speaker 3: If he hits thirty homers, can the voters shy away
- 28:16Speaker 3: from that number without giving him the Rookie of the Year.
- 28:19Speaker 3: If he pops thirty homers, which home run wise, that
- 28:24Speaker 3: might be his floor. You're talking about a possible forty
- 28:28Speaker 3: home run type of power. Yes, I get it, he
- 28:31Speaker 3: might hit one ninety. But if he hits two twenty
- 28:35Speaker 3: with thirty pumps, I mean, isn't he locked in? Doesn't
- 28:39Speaker 3: he have to be Rookie of the Year now?
- 28:42Speaker 1: So here, I'll just give you the comp ready, who
- 28:44Speaker 1: are you voting for Rookie of the Year? If Mori
- 28:47Speaker 1: Kami hits thirty home runs but he's got a two
- 28:49Speaker 1: seventy five on base and he's playing either bad first
- 28:53Speaker 1: or mostly DH versus am I with a two eight
- 28:57Speaker 1: ora making twenty eight starts? Yeah, I don't think that's close.
- 29:03Speaker 2: I would go with a picture of mine.
- 29:05Speaker 3: Yeah, to eight is legit.
- 29:10Speaker 1: I mean, hit okay three R versus what you're saying.
- 29:15Speaker 1: I'm just saying if Murcami strikes out like crazy, doesn't
- 29:19Speaker 1: get on base well, and he's not probably going to
- 29:22Speaker 1: be known for his defense, then I think you're looking
- 29:24Speaker 1: more at is he gonna hit forty plus and then
- 29:27Speaker 1: it's going to be a tougher sell to put someone
- 29:30Speaker 1: else there. I think thirty still doesn't doesn't do it
- 29:33Speaker 1: unless the numbers are back to support him with on
- 29:36Speaker 1: base and I don't know, I guess maybe some defense
- 29:39Speaker 1: at first that's better than expected.
- 29:42Speaker 3: I mean, his probably will be decent. It's just gonna
- 29:45Speaker 3: be where that average ends up because he doesn't he
- 29:48Speaker 3: doesn't make contact with a lot of stuff. He just
- 29:50Speaker 3: doesn't swing it much outside of the zone. So thirty homers.
- 29:54Speaker 3: How many rookies have hit thirty homers and not been
- 29:56Speaker 3: the top top top two, top three rookie the year voters.
- 30:01Speaker 3: That's a lot of homers to jump in the first
- 30:03Speaker 3: year and do like say a Suzuki's home runs didn't
- 30:06Speaker 3: really start coming till a few years into his time
- 30:10Speaker 3: in the big leagues.
- 30:14Speaker 1: That's true. I'm trying to look up the really tough
- 30:17Speaker 1: question that Krats asked.
- 30:18Speaker 2: I don't think we'll be able to pull it out.
- 30:21Speaker 1: Yeah, but if someone else wants to do that homework
- 30:23Speaker 1: and dm us on Instagram, I'll read it tomorrow. Anyway,
- 30:28Speaker 1: a new year means new chances to shine over at
- 30:30Speaker 1: the bet MGM app or on betmgm dot com. An
- 30:34Speaker 1: odds boost token can be part of the mix for you.
- 30:37Speaker 1: You can use it on any college hoops bet tod
- 30:40Speaker 1: Father likes that if your play comes through that pick,
- 30:44Speaker 1: you'll kick off the new year with a bigger payout.
- 30:47Speaker 1: Little college hoops which I almost call pro college hoops
- 30:51Speaker 1: at this point, but it's good. It's good entertainment. Not
- 30:55Speaker 1: for our team this year, but it's good entertainment. Gambling
- 30:58Speaker 1: problem work concern called one one hundred gam our team
- 31:01Speaker 1: is Ruckers, by the way, but the team that we're
- 31:03Speaker 1: excited about in the next few weeks is actually the
- 31:06Speaker 1: Cincinnati Reds because we're gonna visit with a lot of
- 31:09Speaker 1: the current team. Todd Father, Danny Graves and myself will
- 31:13Speaker 1: be over at Reds Fest playing in that poker tournament
- 31:16Speaker 1: on Saturday, January seventeenth, three o'clock Eastern. If there are
- 31:20Speaker 1: tickets left, they're almost sold out, and it's not one
- 31:23Speaker 1: of those situations where you're like tickets are selling fast,
- 31:25Speaker 1: like no, this thing sells out the poker tournament, So
- 31:28Speaker 1: it might already be sold out, but if you want
- 31:30Speaker 1: to hit the QR code on the screen, you can
- 31:31Speaker 1: see if there's any tickets left, and then a panel
- 31:33Speaker 1: discussion at the bet MGM Sports book the next day.
- 31:36Speaker 1: We'll do a little little brunch, little cocktail if you
- 31:39Speaker 1: can have one, and I don't know, maybe a burger
- 31:43Speaker 1: with with a little leg over easy or something on
- 31:46Speaker 1: top for brunch.
- 31:48Speaker 2: Can't wait, I haven't eaten in how many hours?
- 31:51Speaker 3: Oh?
- 31:51Speaker 1: Oops, sorry forgot, it's been a minute. Don't wait until
- 31:55Speaker 1: the eighteenth. Don't go that long on
