- 0:01Speaker 1: The Joe Rogan experience. I don't know. It's all going
- 0:05Speaker 1: to be over soon. What do you mean? AI or
- 0:08Speaker 1: the apocalypse? The apocalypse. Did you hear that? J.D. Vance
- 0:11Speaker 1: was doing a speech I was listening to on the
- 0:12Speaker 1: Tim Dillon Show.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:14Speaker 1: I almost brought this up a second ago because I
- 0:15Speaker 1: just saw it on Twitter again. He was talking about
- 0:19Speaker 1: end times. What was his exact quote? Let's play it.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Let's play it. First of all, who are you talking
- 0:27Speaker 1: to that you feel like this is the thing to say?
- 0:33Speaker 1: This is talking about like whether or not we're entering
- 0:37Speaker 1: end times. J.D. Vance was? Yes. He's on Tim Dillon's show? No, no, no, no, no, no.
- 0:47Speaker 1: He was just giving this speech. Tim Dillon was making
- 0:50Speaker 1: fun of it. It was fucking hilarious. What's he saying?
- 0:53Speaker 2: Friends and their family. So I tend to think like
- 0:59Speaker 2: while I wouldn't be shocked if we are living in
- 1:01Speaker 2: the end times... what I'm trying to focus on is
- 1:04Speaker 2: doing as much of God's work as possible right now.
- 1:07Speaker 2: And if that leads to the end times, okay. And
- 1:10Speaker 2: if that leads to, you know, us building a better
- 1:13Speaker 2: world that thrives and survives for a very long time
- 1:17Speaker 2: after I'm gone, that's great too. I just think you've
- 1:21Speaker 2: got to kind.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Of try to have. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
- 1:23Speaker 1: It was the other part. It sounds like he's saying
- 1:27Speaker 1: if it lead that the second hope is it leads
- 1:30Speaker 1: to a great world.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:32Speaker 1: But if it leads to the end times, that's OK, too.
- 1:35Speaker 2: You know, us building a better world that thrives. And
- 1:39Speaker 2: if that leads to the end times, OK, not OK.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Yeah. What are you saying? If that leads to the
- 1:45Speaker 1: end times, okay. Not great. That's not okay. And if
- 1:49Speaker 1: it doesn't lead to the end times and everybody lives
- 1:51Speaker 1: a great life, well, that's great too. That'd be just fine.
- 1:54Speaker 1: That doesn't seem like the optimum perspective. What are they
- 1:58Speaker 1: even saying? I feel like you should reverse those two.
- 2:01Speaker 1: And the goal is not end times. The goal is
- 2:05Speaker 1: make a beautiful world. For all of us. Where people
- 2:07Speaker 1: thrive and everybody's happy. And leave the end out. Yeah.
- 2:11Speaker 1: That's the problem with religious people that are convinced that
- 2:13Speaker 1: there's a set of events that have been predicted. You
- 2:17Speaker 1: think he's a religious person? You think he's a fake
- 2:20Speaker 1: religious person? Vance? Yeah. J.D. Vance? He's a Catholic. He's
- 2:26Speaker 1: very religious. He wrote a book about, what was his book, Communion? Yeah.
- 2:29Speaker 1: That one was called His Pigeon. Yeah. Yeah, he wrote
- 2:32Speaker 1: a book about his spiritual journey. Oh, I didn't. I
- 2:37Speaker 1: saw the other movie. Yeah, I mean, that's why Communion,
- 2:40Speaker 1: the other one that I know, I brought that up
- 2:41Speaker 1: when he was on the podcast. Like, you know, you
- 2:43Speaker 1: wrote a book about a guy who got abducted by aliens.
- 2:46Speaker 1: That's the same book title. That's Whitley Stryber's book, Communion. Oh, shit. Yeah,
- 2:51Speaker 1: there's a famous movie with, who was in Communion? God
- 2:59Speaker 1: damn it. I want to say something, but I don't
- 3:01Speaker 1: think it's right. 1989? 1989? I just knew about Hillbilly
- 3:08Speaker 1: Christopher Walken that's right I just knew about Hillbilly Elegy
- 3:11Speaker 1: or whatever the fuck yeah that was his first book
- 3:13Speaker 1: and his new one is Communion but there was a
- 3:15Speaker 1: book called Communion by this guy Whitley Stryber who had
- 3:18Speaker 1: been abducted by aliens allegedly you know about the name
- 3:20Speaker 1: changes what is that he's changed his name like four
- 3:23Speaker 1: times what yeah wait a minute okay James Donald Bowman
- 3:31Speaker 1: his birth name um James David Hamill, the name given
- 3:35Speaker 1: to him after his mother married her third husband. Well,
- 3:38Speaker 1: that's understandable. Yeah, but he changed it when he was
- 3:40Speaker 1: in high school, I think, for that one. But he
- 3:42Speaker 1: adopted him. He went by J.D. Hamill through high school.
- 3:45Speaker 1: That makes sense. James David Vance, the name he adopted
- 3:49Speaker 1: in 2013 before graduating from law school, changing his name
- 3:53Speaker 1: to Vance to honor his maternal grandparents, Mama and Papa,
- 3:59Speaker 1: who helped raise him. Well, there's a logic behind it,
- 4:01Speaker 1: at least. It's not like he's like ducking taxes or something. Right. Maybe.
- 4:07Speaker 1: I'm not saying that's why he did it, but how
- 4:09Speaker 1: many people do you know have changed their name like that?
- 4:11Speaker 1: Not many. At least more than once. That is odd.
- 4:15Speaker 1: He did it three times. Four. I wonder if you're
- 4:18Speaker 1: trying to reinvent yourself. Why do you do that? I
- 4:20Speaker 1: don't know. I don't know. I don't like the end
- 4:21Speaker 1: times talk. I don't trust him. I don't like that talk.
- 4:25Speaker 1: That kind of talk is crazy talk. Yeah. Like if
- 4:27Speaker 1: it's end times, okay. No. Jamie said it best. Not good.
- 4:33Speaker 1: Not okay. That's not okay. That's not okay. No, that
- 4:37Speaker 1: spooks me out. I understand why people are attracted by religion.
- 4:43Speaker 1: I understand it from giving you a moral framework and
- 4:47Speaker 1: an ethical framework. I get that. But when people... think
- 4:50Speaker 1: that they absolutely know what the interpretations are and absolutely
- 4:55Speaker 1: know what's going to happen. And I'll absolutely quit listening
- 4:58Speaker 1: to them talk if that's what they come at me with.
