- 0:01Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:04Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus. Playfac go to roll right, jumps it off
- 0:07Speaker 1: into the right class to Michael Bumpets, who bounces off
- 0:09Speaker 1: on one tackler gets inside the forty down of the
- 0:12Speaker 1: thirty five yard line. Powered by seahawks dot Com, Matt
- 0:15Speaker 1: pump fakes looking at the goal line. He throws it
- 0:17Speaker 1: into the end zone. Touchdown, Saint Hawks. It's Michael Bumpus
- 0:21Speaker 1: with a diving catching the end zone ten yard touchdown
- 0:25Speaker 1: reception for Bumpus, and the kid out of Washington State
- 0:28Speaker 1: has found himself a place on this team. Now here's
- 0:31Speaker 1: your host, Nasa Chuby. Welcome into another edition of Hawk Talk,
- 0:36Speaker 1: this time the preview edition. As a Seahawks head into
- 0:38Speaker 1: Week six looking at bounce back after that loss against
- 0:41Speaker 1: the New Orleans Saints. The Seahawks are back at home
- 0:43Speaker 1: taking on the Arizona Cardinals for a little NFC West showdown.
- 0:46Speaker 1: But before we get into those Cardinals, I think I'd
- 0:49Speaker 1: be remiss if I didn't start here talk about an
- 0:52Speaker 1: all time favorite Seahawk is coming back. You remember the
- 0:54Speaker 1: name from the Legion of boom years, Bruce Irvin is
- 0:57Speaker 1: back with a team, signing with the practice squad earlier
- 0:59Speaker 1: this week. The former first round pick played with Seattle
- 1:02Speaker 1: from twenty twelve to twenty fifteen Super Bowl champ then,
- 1:05Speaker 1: if you remember, came back to Seattle in twenty twenty,
- 1:08Speaker 1: was the Seahawks starting strong side linebacker before he tours
- 1:11Speaker 1: ACL that season after playing just two games, which was
- 1:14Speaker 1: a real bummer. But anyway, he's back with Seattle on
- 1:17Speaker 1: the practice squad. But I wouldn't be surprised if he
- 1:18Speaker 1: saw him up to the active fifty three man roster
- 1:21Speaker 1: at some point this year. So, Bumpo, what do you
- 1:23Speaker 1: when you see Bruce Irvan coming in on that defensive side,
- 1:26Speaker 1: what does that make you think? It makes me think
- 1:28Speaker 1: that this defense needs a little bit of veteran leadership.
- 1:33Speaker 1: You know, they need some guidance. They need a guy
- 1:34Speaker 1: who knows how to be a pro, the guy who's
- 1:36Speaker 1: been here and who's done them, and he's not just
- 1:39Speaker 1: here just to teach, Like they expect this man to
- 1:41Speaker 1: play and to make some plays. I know people see
- 1:43Speaker 1: that he's thirty five and they're saying, well, he's gonna
- 1:45Speaker 1: be a straight mentor. No, that's part of his job,
- 1:47Speaker 1: but the other part of his job is to play football.
- 1:50Speaker 1: So no, I'm excited about the hire. I think guys,
- 1:52Speaker 1: guys can learn from him. And it is always always
- 1:54Speaker 1: nice when when dudes come home. You know what I mean.
- 1:56Speaker 1: I like it. Yeah, And he said as much that
- 1:58Speaker 1: Seattle always felt like home, and know guys like mo
- 2:00Speaker 1: Kelly would tell him that grass isn't always greener on
- 2:02Speaker 1: the other side, he went to Oakland, played for Chicago
- 2:05Speaker 1: a couple other stops along the way, so he always
- 2:07Speaker 1: considered Seattle home. So it's good to see him back.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Actually saw him in the locker room and he came back.
- 2:11Speaker 1: He said, what's up to him? And he said, all right,
- 2:12Speaker 1: you still here chasing players around. I said, yep, the
- 2:15Speaker 1: same old thing. So good to see Bruce Irvin back
- 2:18Speaker 1: with the squad. Let's get back into those Arizona Cardinals.
- 2:21Speaker 1: What's on tap? What's on tap? Cardinals two in three
- 2:28Speaker 1: on the season, second place in the NFC West. I
- 2:30Speaker 1: changed it up, bump, that would also be tied for last,
- 2:33Speaker 1: depending on how you look it added, but the Seahawks
- 2:35Speaker 1: are also two in three, so I thought tied for
- 2:37Speaker 1: second was a little bit sounds like that. Yeah, man.
- 2:40Speaker 1: So they've had a kind of an up and down
- 2:41Speaker 1: year and haven't strung any wins or losses together. They
- 2:44Speaker 1: lost their opener to Kansas City, kind of got smacked
- 2:46Speaker 1: in that one, beat the Raiders in thrilling fashion, assisted
- 2:51Speaker 1: by two hundred red for a fumbles. They went an overtime,
- 2:53Speaker 1: crazy little game there. They play the Rams, lose to
- 2:56Speaker 1: them twenty to twelve, beat the Carolina Panthers twenty six
- 3:00Speaker 1: to sixteen, then lost this last week to the Philadelphia Eagles.
- 3:03Speaker 1: So much like the Seahawks, They've had some really good moments,
- 3:05Speaker 1: some really bad moments, and just kind of in between.
- 3:08Speaker 1: They don't Other than the first week, they haven't really
- 3:10Speaker 1: been blown out a ton. But Sunday was a heartbreak. Boy,
- 3:14Speaker 1: Sunday was a heartbreak as they lost on matt Emmondolah
- 3:19Speaker 1: miss game time field goal twenty two seconds slept in regulation.
- 3:23Speaker 1: The Eagles approved to five and oh and are the
- 3:25Speaker 1: only undefeated team in the NFL. First time the Eagles
- 3:28Speaker 1: have been five and os. It's two thousand and four
- 3:30Speaker 1: when they went to the Super Bowl with McNabb bump,
- 3:32Speaker 1: But yeah, what do you see with this Eagles? In
- 3:34Speaker 1: Cardinals game on Sunday one. I feel old because two
- 3:38Speaker 1: thousand and four I was my senior year in high
- 3:39Speaker 1: school in Donovan mcnabble was that guy back in the day.
- 3:42Speaker 1: So Eagles doing some things that haven't happened in a
- 3:45Speaker 1: long time. But it's the same thing with the Cardinals.
- 3:47Speaker 1: It seems like they always start slow. They haven't scored
- 3:49Speaker 1: in the first quarter all season, and that happened here.
- 3:52Speaker 1: The Eagles went up fourteen. Oh and there it was
- 3:56Speaker 1: behind two Russian testdowns from Jalen Hurts, who I'm excited
- 3:59Speaker 1: for Jalen Hurts. He's on our schedule this year, is he?
- 4:01Speaker 1: So don't have to worry about him all right? Perfect,
- 4:03Speaker 1: So I can really be excited for him until the
- 4:05Speaker 1: playoffs get down. But it's nice to see him do
- 4:06Speaker 1: the same. But and then they closed the gap a bit.
- 4:10Speaker 1: The Cardinals man Marky's Brown had one of the more
- 4:13Speaker 1: impressive touchdowns of the year with this one man he
- 4:15Speaker 1: was in the slod caught, the ball, goes across the middle,
- 4:18Speaker 1: breaks the tackle, makes another guy miss puts on the Jets.
- 4:20Speaker 1: I mean, Hollywood. Brown made some plays. It was fun
- 4:25Speaker 1: to see him do that. But I'm hoping that we
- 4:27Speaker 1: corral and lock this young man up. Yeah, he was
- 4:29Speaker 1: definitely making plays. It's definitely a highlight worthy relay if
- 4:32Speaker 1: you want to go back and watch that, you know.
- 4:34Speaker 1: But as that game winning the fourth quarter, the Cardinals
- 4:36Speaker 1: tie the score up at seventeen with eleven yard run
- 4:39Speaker 1: from n O. Benjamin. We'll get into the running back
- 4:41Speaker 1: situation for the Cardinals later in the show, but it
- 4:43Speaker 1: is a disaster at the moment. The Eagles would answer,
- 4:46Speaker 1: going on a seventeen play seventy yard drive with a
- 4:49Speaker 1: field goal, making the score twenty to seventeen. They took
- 4:51Speaker 1: about nine minutes off the clock, so a minute forty
- 4:54Speaker 1: five left in the game. Cardinals get the ball back.
- 4:56Speaker 1: They drive deep into Eagles territory and Bumba ask you
- 5:00Speaker 1: this game management here. So it's a second and ten
- 5:02Speaker 1: from the Philly thirty four. Murray slides down just short
- 5:05Speaker 1: of the first down. They think they get the first down,
- 5:07Speaker 1: they're actually short. Time is running down, so they decided
- 5:10Speaker 1: to spike it on third down. They have to bring
- 5:12Speaker 1: out the field goal kicker. He obviously goes on to
- 5:15Speaker 1: miss that field goal. Do you think that's what do
- 5:18Speaker 1: you think about that great game? Management situation. I know
- 5:20Speaker 1: it's tough with the first sound, no first down, with
- 5:22Speaker 1: no timeouts. Do would you tried to run a play there?
- 5:25Speaker 1: Or do you've agreed with the spike in that situation?
- 5:28Speaker 1: You know what, I personally, I think I would try
- 5:30Speaker 1: to run a play and then spike it. I think
- 5:32Speaker 1: that there has to be something in your offense to
- 5:34Speaker 1: where you can signal a playout to your to your
- 5:37Speaker 1: offense and they know to get lineup and running, or
- 5:39Speaker 1: Kyler Murray and call of playing get out there. Me personally,
- 5:41Speaker 1: I would I would run a play then spike it.
- 5:43Speaker 1: You get a couple more players out of that, you
- 5:45Speaker 1: can try to win this ball game instead of goal
- 5:47Speaker 1: for the time. But I don't think he's wrong. I
- 5:49Speaker 1: don't think he's wrong. I mean, that's a safe bet
- 5:52Speaker 1: me sideline coach, couch, champion of the world. I can
- 5:56Speaker 1: come out and say all the things I would have done,
- 5:58Speaker 1: but I'm not in that position. So that's what I
- 6:00Speaker 1: would have done. But I don't think he was wrong
- 6:02Speaker 1: for doing what he did. Yeah, hindsights always twenty twenty
- 6:05Speaker 1: or fifty fifty if you're Cam Newton, doesn't really matter.
- 6:08Speaker 1: But so the Cardinals obviously lose the game. They're now
- 6:11Speaker 1: owing three at home and two and on the road.
- 6:13Speaker 1: They have some crazy home splits right now. I feel
- 6:15Speaker 1: like they've lost like eight and a row at home
- 6:16Speaker 1: and they're really a really good road team, so it's
- 6:19Speaker 1: it's crazy. And fifteen and four on the road in
- 6:21Speaker 1: the last two seasons, that's insane, Like usually there's a
- 6:24Speaker 1: correlation or like no, usually teams that are that good
- 6:27Speaker 1: on the road are just good teams in general. Obviously,
- 6:29Speaker 1: the Cardinals will go to the playoffs last year, but
- 6:31Speaker 1: they haven't been like a world beaters recently, so that's
- 6:35Speaker 1: very interesting and a crazy split that we hope does
- 6:38Speaker 1: not carry over to Sunday and finish up on that game,
- 6:41Speaker 1: Calmary was mostly hell in check. He was twenty eight
- 6:44Speaker 1: to forty two for two fifty and one touchdown win interception.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Carried the ball four times for forty two yards. James
- 6:49Speaker 1: Conner team's leading rusher with nine carries in fifty five yards.
- 6:53Speaker 1: So bumb let's get back into this kind of head
- 6:55Speaker 1: to head matchup. We definitely have enough of a sample
- 6:58Speaker 1: size to look at it. And when I'm juiced about
- 7:01Speaker 1: right now, and I'll start positive. I'll let you, unfortunately
- 7:03Speaker 1: talk about the negative here in a second, but I
- 7:05Speaker 1: appreciate that you bad. I got you do. But the
- 7:07Speaker 1: positive is the Seahawks offense. Man, they have jumped into
- 7:10Speaker 1: the top tier of the NFL after we saw them
- 7:13Speaker 1: after that San Francisco game kind of down in the dumps.
- 7:15Speaker 1: They're the number eight ranked NFL offense right now, which
- 7:18Speaker 1: is great given it going for three hundred and sixty
- 7:21Speaker 1: eight yards per game, twelfth ranked rushing offense one hundred
- 7:24Speaker 1: and twenty two yards per game, eleventh ranked pass offense
- 7:28Speaker 1: two hundred and forty six yards per game, and they're
- 7:30Speaker 1: scoring seventh best in the NFL at twenty five points
- 7:32Speaker 1: per game. It'll help when you score thirty five, when
- 7:35Speaker 1: you score forty, and you score all these type of points.
- 7:37Speaker 1: So the Seahawks offense has things rolling. On the opposite side,
- 7:40Speaker 1: the Cardinals, they're very middle of the pack. They're not
- 7:43Speaker 1: really bad, they're not really good. They're very in the middle.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Fifteenth ranked offense total, seventeenth on running the ball, seventeen
- 7:50Speaker 1: passing the ball, eighteenth in points per game. So the
- 7:53Speaker 1: Seahawks definitely, I feel like, have the advantage the Seahawks
- 7:56Speaker 1: have a lot more explosive plays than the Cardinals do
- 7:58Speaker 1: when you stick at their offenses compared comparatively. But really
- 8:02Speaker 1: like to see what I saw to the Seahawks just
- 8:04Speaker 1: volting up these charts and showing what they can do offensively, Yeah,
- 8:07Speaker 1: and defensively, man, this is it's weird to say. I
- 8:10Speaker 1: know that we've had years where this team has struggled
- 8:12Speaker 1: on defense, but they are the worst defense in the league,
- 8:15Speaker 1: giving a four under thirty yards a game. They are
- 8:18Speaker 1: the worst team against the run, giving up a buck seventy,
- 8:21Speaker 1: and there are twenty six against the past giving up
- 8:24Speaker 1: two fifty nine. So, needless to say, I didn't even
- 8:27Speaker 1: need to read those stats. You wouldn't know just by
- 8:30Speaker 1: watching the games that the Hawks got some work to do.
- 8:32Speaker 1: That's why you're bringing a guy like Bruce Irvin. Hopefully
- 8:34Speaker 1: he's gonna help get some things around the field. On
- 8:36Speaker 1: the other side, the Cardinals middle of the road. Just
- 8:39Speaker 1: like you mentioned, their offense their seventeenth overall, the fifth
- 8:42Speaker 1: excuse me, they're the seventeenth defense overall, giving up three
- 8:46Speaker 1: forty five. They're fifth against run, giving up ninety seven,
- 8:48Speaker 1: which should be interesting. We don't have Rashod Penny this
- 8:50Speaker 1: week to get to see what ken Walker and DJ
- 8:52Speaker 1: Dallas do. They're twenty first against the past and twenty
- 8:55Speaker 1: second when it comes to points allowed. So again, I
- 8:59Speaker 1: look at at these numbers and I know we can
- 9:02Speaker 1: focus on the defense to say, yes, they're thirty second,
- 9:04Speaker 1: but there's not thirty second defense type talent on the
- 9:07Speaker 1: football field. And that's why I remain optimistic. Call me crazy,
- 9:11Speaker 1: call me insane, whatever. I see the guys out there
- 9:14Speaker 1: and I'm like, there's no way this trend will continue. Yeah, no,
- 9:18Speaker 1: that's definitely I'm right there with you, mom, There's no way. Honestly,
- 9:21Speaker 1: when you look at the guys like you mentioned, we
- 9:22Speaker 1: got guys like Quandre dig still out there, al Wood
- 9:26Speaker 1: still making plays, Jordan Brooks is coming along, you know
- 9:28Speaker 1: what I'm saying. Chenel Wosi's killing it, the rookie Tarik
- 9:31Speaker 1: Woolling is making plays. Kobe Bryant. So there's the pieces
- 9:34Speaker 1: are there. We just gotta fix up the runfits up
- 9:36Speaker 1: front and get that front seven playing a little better.
- 9:39Speaker 1: But I do left face like you said that they
- 9:41Speaker 1: can get this ship corrected. All right, Let's know the history, No,
- 9:46Speaker 1: your history Seattle leads the all time series against the
- 9:50Speaker 1: Cardinals twenty three to twenty two in one, so it's
- 9:53Speaker 1: a very close matchup. The Seahawks have one two for
- 9:56Speaker 1: the last three meetings, however, in five of the last eight.
- 9:59Speaker 1: Last this year, the Seahawks went down to the Desert
- 10:01Speaker 1: beat the Cardinals thirty eight to thirty in the final
- 10:04Speaker 1: game of the twenty twenty one season. Also ended up
- 10:06Speaker 1: being the final game for Russell Wilson in a Seahawks uniform.
- 10:10Speaker 1: Really good day by Russell Tyler Andershot Penny. Rashad Penny
- 10:14Speaker 1: had one hundred and niney yards and twenty three carries,
- 10:16Speaker 1: including a sixty three yard touchdown. Tyler Lockett was doing
- 10:19Speaker 1: his thing five receptions nine eight yards, two touchdowns, and
- 10:22Speaker 1: Russell Wilson, the last game as a Seahawk, went fifteen
- 10:25Speaker 1: of twenty six for two thirty eight, three touchdowns one pick.
- 10:28Speaker 1: He also had a rushing touchdown and Jordan Brooks was
- 10:30Speaker 1: all over their field with twenty tackles two TFLs. And
- 10:34Speaker 1: when I think about Rashade Penny, man, I'm still my
- 10:36Speaker 1: heart still hurts for the dude today. Man, Yeah, just
- 10:39Speaker 1: thinking about how much work he did how far he's come.
- 10:43Speaker 1: No one has been through that I can think of
- 10:45Speaker 1: in recent memory that kind of trauma and from an
- 10:47Speaker 1: injury standpoint, everything he's been through and just been humbled
- 10:50Speaker 1: and done everything he could to get back and finally
- 10:53Speaker 1: was doing what he was capable of consistently. So to
- 10:56Speaker 1: see him go down really breaks their heart. So Rashad
- 10:58Speaker 1: prayers up to you. I hope you get better, Assume,
- 11:00Speaker 1: my guy, But man, we need to see more of
- 11:02Speaker 1: this history. The recent history has been good for the Seahawks,
- 11:05Speaker 1: so we hope that continues this weekend. But let's find
- 11:08Speaker 1: out what happened elsewhere in the division. What's the word?
- 11:16Speaker 1: The Seahawks are the NFC West champs? Again, what's the
- 11:19Speaker 1: word in the West? On Hot Talk? There's only one
- 11:25Speaker 1: team in the West where they win in record right
- 11:27Speaker 1: now that it's the San Francisco forty nine Ers. They
- 11:30Speaker 1: are three and two, the Seahawks two and three, Rams
- 11:34Speaker 1: are two and three, and Cardinals are two and three.
- 11:36Speaker 1: Another tough week in the NFC West, all these guys losing.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Like I said, the forty niners were the only one
- 11:41Speaker 1: to come out victorious. And how did they do that?
- 11:44Speaker 1: They went to Carolina, and they got it done. It
- 11:46Speaker 1: wasn't a blowout, but the forty nine ers were in
- 11:48Speaker 1: control of this whole thing. They won thirty seven, two fifteen.
- 11:52Speaker 1: San Francisco's defense, it's some special, all right. They've only
- 11:56Speaker 1: allowed thirty seven points through four games and now have
- 11:59Speaker 1: held all opponents to fewer than twenty points. Man, this
- 12:04Speaker 1: is crazy. The Niners got away with it earlier at
- 12:07Speaker 1: the panther Des Troil ten to three late in the
- 12:09Speaker 1: second quarter, and appeared to gain some life after a
- 12:11Speaker 1: block field goal Tribe, but then Mayfield, doing what Mayfield
- 12:15Speaker 1: does from time to time, he missed McCaffrey and then
- 12:18Speaker 1: there was a picked an interception, got up race to
- 12:20Speaker 1: the end zone. Forty nine Ers seventeen to three lead
- 12:24Speaker 1: with fifty five seconds left and a half Baker Mayfield
- 12:27Speaker 1: was held in check. Not a horrible day and now
- 12:29Speaker 1: a great day. Twenty thirty six two fifteen, zero touchdowns,
- 12:32Speaker 1: one interception, but he was sacked four times. That Niners
- 12:37Speaker 1: defense is real. You combine that with some shaky play
- 12:40Speaker 1: by Baker Mayfield, that defense continues to dominate. Yeah, they're
- 12:44Speaker 1: scary good. I mean, the Seahawk fans got a clear
- 12:47Speaker 1: picture of that when we went down there and played
- 12:49Speaker 1: them in Week two. They're legit. They're gonna do a
- 12:52Speaker 1: lot of things. Fred Warner Bosa. They have a lot
- 12:54Speaker 1: of dudes out there. They're dealing without injuries right now.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Mosley actually looked like he went down and I think
- 12:59Speaker 1: he tours Aye, so I think he's out for the year,
- 13:01Speaker 1: which is a brutal hit for them. But they're really skilled.
- 13:04Speaker 1: They're flying around. When the Seahous play them again in December,
- 13:09Speaker 1: I'd be really interested to see how that matchup goes
- 13:11Speaker 1: because this offense looks a lot different than the offense
- 13:13Speaker 1: we saw in that rain. He kind of sloppy day
- 13:15Speaker 1: in Santa Clara, but the Niners are for real, so
- 13:17Speaker 1: it'll be interesting to see. Defensively, Obviously, Jimmy Jimmy G
- 13:20Speaker 1: eighteen and thirty two fifty three, two touchdowns, a very
- 13:23Speaker 1: Jimmy G light game. He didn't have any horrible turnovers.
- 13:26Speaker 1: So the Niners have to bounce back. See what happens
- 13:28Speaker 1: with injuries. Like I said, Nick Bosa left the game
- 13:31Speaker 1: with tightness, Jimmy Ward broke his hand, and Mosley had
- 13:33Speaker 1: a twenty cels, So we'll see how they were covered
- 13:35Speaker 1: from that and then the other game U Rams Cowboys.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Cowboys are again. Yeah, I hate to say it, but
- 13:43Speaker 1: they're a better team than I thought. And they don't
- 13:45Speaker 1: even have Dak Prescott man right, it's impressive. They got
- 13:48Speaker 1: a lot of players and Marcus Lawrence and that defense
- 13:52Speaker 1: is pretty good. So it was a long day for
- 13:54Speaker 1: the Rams offense. On the third play from scrimmad Shafford
- 13:57Speaker 1: is sacked, fumbles Marks Lawrence went to a back nineteen
- 13:59Speaker 1: our touchdown, boom right right away off top. Then they
- 14:02Speaker 1: block a punt. They go up nine. Nothing. Rams did
- 14:06Speaker 1: make things interesting for a little bit. Stafford found who else,
- 14:09Speaker 1: Cooper cup seventy five yard touchdown. I mean, my goodness.
- 14:13Speaker 1: So they actually took the lead, but that was the
- 14:15Speaker 1: last time they would score. Cowboys answered back with Tony
- 14:18Speaker 1: Pollard fifty seven yard touchdown, making it sixteen ten at
- 14:21Speaker 1: a half, and then in the second half turnovers we're
- 14:23Speaker 1: definitely deciding factor. Rams turnover three times, Cowboys don't turn
- 14:27Speaker 1: over once. This wasn't because of production from Cooper Rush.
- 14:32Speaker 1: I'll say that he's definitely managing the game. I don't
- 14:35Speaker 1: want any of that nonsense about a quarterback controversy. He
- 14:38Speaker 1: was ten or sixteen, one hundred and two yards, zero touchdown,
- 14:41Speaker 1: zero interceptions. On the other side, Matthew Stafford twenty eight
- 14:44Speaker 1: to forty two three o eight one touchdown, win, interception,
- 14:48Speaker 1: two fumbles lost in five sacks. Bump. We know how
- 14:52Speaker 1: good Stafford is. He's a former Super Bowl champion, right,
- 14:55Speaker 1: we know what he's capable of. But one thing I
- 14:59Speaker 1: will say, when things are bad for that man, they
- 15:01Speaker 1: are bad. They are bad. Yeah, when it rains and
- 15:05Speaker 1: pours over there in La for Matthew Stafford and the
- 15:08Speaker 1: Rams and this all fans would all with Big Vay
- 15:13Speaker 1: Cooper and all the other talent that they have. They
- 15:16Speaker 1: are twenty ninth when it comes to points per game.
- 15:19Speaker 1: They're averaging sixteen points per game, which is nuts to me.
- 15:23Speaker 1: You look at the Hawks averaging twenty five game. So
- 15:27Speaker 1: it's weird to say that because you know that the
- 15:29Speaker 1: Rams they're still a good football team. Like numbers can
- 15:32Speaker 1: trick you a little bit, but there's one thing that
- 15:34Speaker 1: is consistent. If you can fluster Matthew Stafford, he will
- 15:38Speaker 1: give up the football. And that's what we've seen so far.
- 15:42Speaker 1: So you know, I am at if they took a loss,
- 15:44Speaker 1: so keep being interesting in the West. I'm all right
- 15:46Speaker 1: with it. Yeah, No, that's the one thing, that one
- 15:48Speaker 1: saving grace about the Seahawks losing last week. You look
- 15:50Speaker 1: around the NCUS and other people are struggling. So Seahawks
- 15:53Speaker 1: are definitely very much still in that division hunt. So
- 15:57Speaker 1: which takes us back to their Arizona Cardinals where this
- 15:59Speaker 1: weekend's matchup, Man up is this whole man up on
- 16:10Speaker 1: Hawk Talk Kyler Murray Bump the only way to start
- 16:14Speaker 1: for this Arizona Cardinals team, because this is what happens
- 16:16Speaker 1: with them. He runs everything through that offensive. He stopped him.
- 16:19Speaker 1: He stopped the Cardinals. But he's had kind of an
- 16:21Speaker 1: interesting year. He's had an interesting year. He signed that
- 16:24Speaker 1: huge contract worth up the two hundred and thirty million
- 16:26Speaker 1: dollars one hundred and sixty million guaranteed. Everything's all good.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Then we learn about the little homework independent study clause
- 16:34Speaker 1: where he's got a complete at least four hours of
- 16:36Speaker 1: independent study. And you know he couldn't He wouldn't get
- 16:39Speaker 1: credit for this study if he wasn't, you know, doing
- 16:41Speaker 1: what was supposed to do. He couldn't be watching TV,
- 16:43Speaker 1: can be playing video games can be surfing the internet.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Surfing the Internet. I love how that was in the contract.
- 16:50Speaker 1: The Internet. Come on, man, surfing the net. Bro www
- 16:55Speaker 1: dot no. I mean, this obviously blew up in the
- 16:59Speaker 1: media and the Cardinals took it out of the contract
- 17:02Speaker 1: after the fact. I think they put it behind them,
- 17:05Speaker 1: but it just was an unnecessary thing that kind of
- 17:08Speaker 1: was in a cloud leading into the season. On the field,
- 17:10Speaker 1: Murray's having a pretty good year. One forty one for
- 17:13Speaker 1: two fifteen one, two hundred and forty one yards, six touchdowns,
- 17:16Speaker 1: three interceptions, been sacked seven times. On the ground twenty
- 17:19Speaker 1: eight carries, one hundred and thirty three yards and two touchdowns.
- 17:23Speaker 1: I've seen him make some really incredible plays. I've seen
- 17:25Speaker 1: him make some head scratching ones, but he still has
- 17:29Speaker 1: that potential. He's been a guy that we've talked about
- 17:30Speaker 1: a lot in this podcast over the years, trying to
- 17:33Speaker 1: struggle to really figure out who he is as an
- 17:36Speaker 1: NFL quarterback. And he's on the good side. He's not
- 17:40Speaker 1: elite yet, he's on his way there, so it'll be
- 17:42Speaker 1: interesting to continue to watch him play. But he's a
- 17:44Speaker 1: guy that's for me. I don't I'm not ready to
- 17:49Speaker 1: crown him yet because I still there's a lot there.
- 17:51Speaker 1: But he does so many good things and continues to
- 17:54Speaker 1: keep plays alive and could be really dangerous if you
- 17:56Speaker 1: do not contain him. So the Seahawks defense will definitely
- 17:59Speaker 1: have their hands full. It's about potential. It's potential to
- 18:04Speaker 1: score a sixty yard touchdown with his feet are through
- 18:07Speaker 1: the air. It's the potential of him scrambling and making
- 18:10Speaker 1: something out of nothing. That's the all script stuff. You
- 18:13Speaker 1: combine that with his natural talent, then you could you
- 18:16Speaker 1: see where he could go. But he ain't there yet,
- 18:19Speaker 1: but he's definitely a dangerous player. Our next matchup, Gino
- 18:23Speaker 1: Smith versus Cardinals defense. Gino is still balling. I'm buying stock,
- 18:29Speaker 1: buying land at Gino, Gino Land, whatever I gotta do
- 18:33Speaker 1: to help convince people that this guy is for real.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Lead's NFL complete percentage an average seventy five percent of
- 18:39Speaker 1: passes he's completing. He also leads NFL and pass rating
- 18:43Speaker 1: one thirteen point one. His stats for this year, he's
- 18:46Speaker 1: one eighteen for one fifty seven thirteen hundred and five yards,
- 18:49Speaker 1: nine touchdown, two intercessions. Now, according to a Pro Football Focus,
- 18:54Speaker 1: he is the highest rated quarterback through five weeks with
- 18:58Speaker 1: a ninety point too. This is ridiculous. I was not
- 19:02Speaker 1: expecting this. I feel like I'm saying this every week.
- 19:04Speaker 1: I'm just gonna start expecting it now. This is this
- 19:07Speaker 1: is who he is. He's proving it. Gino has the
- 19:10Speaker 1: offense on fire. After not scoring a touchdown in Week
- 19:13Speaker 1: two against the Nineers, the Seahawks now have the NFL's
- 19:16Speaker 1: best eighth best office NFL sorry, NFL's eight eighth best
- 19:20Speaker 1: offense in the league three six y yards per game.
- 19:24Speaker 1: And how is he doing it. He's doing it with composure,
- 19:27Speaker 1: He's doing it with making tough throws. He's checking out
- 19:31Speaker 1: the line of scrimmage. It's not like, now you gotta
- 19:33Speaker 1: get Shane Waldron credit because he's drawing these plays up
- 19:36Speaker 1: and he's communicating with Gino in a way that allows
- 19:39Speaker 1: him to understand exactly what he can and can't do
- 19:41Speaker 1: and where the ball should go. But end of the day,
- 19:43Speaker 1: he has a ball in his hands and he's got
- 19:45Speaker 1: to make the final decision, and so far he's been
- 19:48Speaker 1: making some great decisions. Team Geno, I mean, there's nothing
- 19:51Speaker 1: else to say. We could we could spit out every
- 19:53Speaker 1: single number. Everything he's done that's never been done before,
- 19:56Speaker 1: it's been crazy. Geno is the man. He'll have, you know,
- 20:00Speaker 1: his handsful because the Cardinals are a defense that is
- 20:02Speaker 1: that is fast, the middle of the pack statistic wise.
- 20:05Speaker 1: But they'll run up to the line of scrimmage, we'll
- 20:07Speaker 1: try to confuse you, they'll blitz, they'll drop people back
- 20:10Speaker 1: in coverage. You got Buddha Baker and some other guys
- 20:11Speaker 1: that will talk about there, so it'll be interesting. But
- 20:14Speaker 1: like you said, Mine Stock on Gino Land, I'd love
- 20:16Speaker 1: to be the mayor because that man is a baller.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Looking on the Arizona Cardinals offensive side of things, looking
- 20:24Speaker 1: at the running back room right now, thinking about James
- 20:27Speaker 1: Connor and I know Benjamin taking on the Seahawks front seven,
- 20:31Speaker 1: you know the Cardinals running back room is in tough
- 20:33Speaker 1: shape after that Eagle's loss. Kingsbury has never had this
- 20:36Speaker 1: happen where all through running backs get hurt in that game.
- 20:38Speaker 1: James Connor left of the the rib injury, Darrel Williams standing
- 20:41Speaker 1: knee injury, Jonathan Ward hurt his hamstring. So Monday as
- 20:44Speaker 1: a Monday, all those running backs for day to day,
- 20:47Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure Williams is out now, we're still waiting
- 20:49Speaker 1: to see about Connor depending on who is available. James
- 20:53Speaker 1: Connor stats on the year fifty four carries two hundred
- 20:56Speaker 1: yards in one touchdown, also has fourteen receptions one hundred
- 20:59Speaker 1: and three yards. Benjamin has thirty carries for one thirty
- 21:02Speaker 1: six in a touchdown, twelve receptions in ninety seven yards.
- 21:05Speaker 1: Third leading rushers Colin Murray twenty eight carries for one
- 21:08Speaker 1: hundred and thirty three yards and two touchdowns, and then
- 21:10Speaker 1: you have Daryl Williams sixteen carries ninety four yards one touchdown.
- 21:13Speaker 1: They had to sign a couple of the running backs
- 21:15Speaker 1: from the practice squad to kind of make this thing work.
- 21:17Speaker 1: So that'll be a thing that we're looking forward to
- 21:20Speaker 1: you or what happens at the end of the week,
- 21:21Speaker 1: who's playing running back that at the end of the
- 21:23Speaker 1: day month, it's not about who the Cardinals have on
- 21:26Speaker 1: their offense. It's not about what they're doing running the football.
- 21:29Speaker 1: It's about what the Seahawks are doing. You mentioned earlier
- 21:31Speaker 1: the Seahawks have the worst rushing defense in the NFL,
- 21:34Speaker 1: and they're so much better than that. So this is
- 21:36Speaker 1: a week about them figuring out their run fits because
- 21:38Speaker 1: the Cardinals aren't a team at least on paper that
- 21:41Speaker 1: you shake in your boots about the run game. James
- 21:43Speaker 1: Connor's physical, they can get things done. Don't get me wrong.
- 21:45Speaker 1: I'm not saying they're a slout or anything to be disrespectful,
- 21:47Speaker 1: but I'm saying this is a game where you should
- 21:49Speaker 1: be able to get right because that's not their running game,
- 21:52Speaker 1: isn't what they necessarily, you know, hang their hat on.
- 21:56Speaker 1: So that's the one thing it'll be interesting to see
- 21:58Speaker 1: moving forward and to see us and get it because
- 22:00Speaker 1: they definitely want to improve there. Yep, you gotta get
- 22:04Speaker 1: better in the I guess the run and this could
- 22:06Speaker 1: be the week to do that. Now on the outside,
- 22:08Speaker 1: you gotta look at Marky's Brown, zach Ertz, aj Green.
- 22:11Speaker 1: They're gonna be going against to Rig Woollin, Mike Jackson
- 22:14Speaker 1: and already Burns and now we know DeAndre Hopkins is
- 22:17Speaker 1: suspending for Peeds. So the allt of the focus has
- 22:20Speaker 1: been on Hollywood Brown and he's done a good job
- 22:22Speaker 1: thirty eight receptions, four seventeen and three touchdowns. Zach Ertz
- 22:26Speaker 1: is the second leading receiver for these Arizona Cardinals. He
- 22:29Speaker 1: has twenty receptions for twenty twenty nine yards and two touchdowns.
- 22:32Speaker 1: And then Greg Dortch am I saying that, right, he's
- 22:35Speaker 1: a number three receiver with twenty one receptions, sounds good,
- 22:38Speaker 1: two or four and one touchdown. AJ Green, I didn't
- 22:43Speaker 1: know what they thought they were gonna get out of
- 22:44Speaker 1: AJ Green. He stores the end of the rope. He has.
- 22:48Speaker 1: He missed a game because of an injury. He has
- 22:49Speaker 1: eight receptions for forty nine yards, zero touchdowns. But a
- 22:54Speaker 1: guy like AJ Green is good for like one or
- 22:55Speaker 1: two games a year where he'll do something that's gonna
- 22:57Speaker 1: surprise you. So that's why it's important that Brig Woollin
- 23:01Speaker 1: continues to do his things. So far this year, he
- 23:05Speaker 1: has three interceptions, one touchdown, one block field goal all
- 23:09Speaker 1: in five games. Man, he has the lowest passer rating.
- 23:14Speaker 1: Am I saying that right, passer rating aloud, thank you,
- 23:17Speaker 1: thank you. That's that's why that's why I run on
- 23:19Speaker 1: this podcast together. You pick me up pretty much. He
- 23:23Speaker 1: hadn't allowing no passes, allowing passes, but man, it's hard.
- 23:28Speaker 1: That's six some months all qbs. He is six some
- 23:30Speaker 1: months all kibs, which comes to passer rating. He's balling
- 23:33Speaker 1: out and he's a guy that's gonna be Rookie of
- 23:35Speaker 1: the Year. I saw today on Twitter who has done
- 23:37Speaker 1: him from love Baldy breakdowns, Brian Balding, NFL Networker's starting
- 23:41Speaker 1: him some love because he's the guy who should be
- 23:42Speaker 1: mentioned in this because he aways have a lot of
- 23:44Speaker 1: rookies quite frankly that should be, you know, up for
- 23:46Speaker 1: the Rookie of the the Year stuff. So love to see
- 23:48Speaker 1: them balling on the outside for the Seahawks. DK Metcalf
- 23:51Speaker 1: Tyler Lockett taken on Byron Murphy Marco Wilson. You obviously
- 23:54Speaker 1: have Buddha Baker looming in that secondary as well. Every
- 23:58Speaker 1: week it seems like DK and Tyler are setting records.
- 24:00Speaker 1: DK scored to thirty first receiving touchdown last week Time
- 24:03Speaker 1: and see large and for third place all time for
- 24:05Speaker 1: the most touchdowns in the first four seasons and franchise history.
- 24:09Speaker 1: Lockett passed Dog Baldwin for fifth place on Seattle's all
- 24:12Speaker 1: time touchdown list with fifty. So these dudes are balling out.
- 24:15Speaker 1: DK twenty in receptions, three seventy two two touchdowns on
- 24:18Speaker 1: the year, Locket thirty two receptions, four hundred and six
- 24:22Speaker 1: yards and two touchdowns. But Locke, he be owning these
- 24:25Speaker 1: Arizona Cardinals for real. Yes, he does. Last four games,
- 24:29Speaker 1: thirty three receptions, four hundred and eighty yards and six touchdowns.
- 24:33Speaker 1: WHOA that includes a game we had two hundred yards.
- 24:36Speaker 1: We had another game well over one hundred yards. So
- 24:38Speaker 1: Tyler Lockett owns these dudes. So it'll be interesting to
- 24:40Speaker 1: see Byron Murphy. We know he's a great player. Out
- 24:42Speaker 1: of you, dub got nineteen tackles on the year, three
- 24:45Speaker 1: tdfls and one pass defense. Marco Wilson, who has struggled
- 24:50Speaker 1: at times this year, twenty tackles, one TfL, two pass defended.
- 24:53Speaker 1: This is matchup. I think our receivers can get loose,
- 24:55Speaker 1: definitely against his Cardinal team. So it'll be interesting to
- 24:58Speaker 1: see these guys moving forward. But with the way the
- 25:00Speaker 1: offense is playing right now, I'll take that matchup with
- 25:02Speaker 1: the Seahawks receivers all day long. YEP. I'll take it.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Next matchup, Ken Walker versus the Cardinals front seven. He
- 25:10Speaker 1: was drafted in the second round, forty first overall, and
- 25:13Speaker 1: he's got some big shoes. But Rashod Pinny was some
- 25:16Speaker 1: really good football before he went down. Now, Ken Walker's
- 25:21Speaker 1: first touchdown for Michigan, say who was a seventy yard touchdown,
- 25:26Speaker 1: first touchdown for Seahawks a sixty nine yard touchdown. So
- 25:30Speaker 1: I'm just gonna go ahead and say he's about to
- 25:32Speaker 1: go off. He's already doing some things that he did
- 25:35Speaker 1: at Michigan Stay. So far this year, he has twenty
- 25:36Speaker 1: three carries for one forty six and one touchdown. The
- 25:40Speaker 1: Hawks had the twelfth best rushing attack in the league
- 25:43Speaker 1: at one hundred and twenty two yards per game. It's
- 25:47Speaker 1: not gonna be easy. We know that the Cardinals got
- 25:49Speaker 1: some talent and that front seven their fifth against the run,
- 25:52Speaker 1: averaging ninety seven yards per game. But why not? Why not? Now?
- 25:56Speaker 1: Gino's gonna help get this young man open, get tight
- 25:59Speaker 1: ends of get the receivers involved. They gotta spread out
- 26:02Speaker 1: the run game gets going. Let's see how he does
- 26:05Speaker 1: going into this game being a solidified starter. I'm excited
- 26:07Speaker 1: to see there. They're calling him Canine around these parts,
- 26:10Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So I'm looking forward to
- 26:11Speaker 1: see Canine getting busy. We saw the rug long run
- 26:14Speaker 1: against the Saints, so we're definitely looking forward to that
- 26:16Speaker 1: it'll be it'll be tough, but I feel like he's
- 26:18Speaker 1: ready and there's a reason why he was drafted where
- 26:20Speaker 1: he was drafted. You can never have enough running backs
- 26:22Speaker 1: in the National Football League. So good to see him there.
- 26:24Speaker 1: So we'll see how he takes on that Cardinals front seven.
- 26:27Speaker 1: But if the Seahawks want to get back in the
- 26:29Speaker 1: wind calm, let's figure out how they do it. At
- 26:31Speaker 1: the victory, at the forty five, waits for the snack,
- 26:36Speaker 1: Michael Dickson puts it down. That kick is away. If
- 26:39Speaker 1: that kick it's gone, it's a pens to victory. On
- 26:45Speaker 1: Hawk Talk, thought about defense, Bump. If you want to
- 26:48Speaker 1: get this done, you gotta contain Kyler Murray. He's gonna
- 26:51Speaker 1: add live, he's gonna make plays, but he just can't
- 26:53Speaker 1: go off. You need to be disciplined when you're rushing
- 26:55Speaker 1: the guy, keeping him in the pocket. You're making sure
- 26:58Speaker 1: you're staying in front of receivers. The eventual's all the defense.
- 27:01Speaker 1: I can't even get the words out. They need to
- 27:03Speaker 1: be stop the explosive plays. They need to stop the run.
- 27:06Speaker 1: They can do all the things that they know how
- 27:07Speaker 1: to do. Needs to start this weekend. Otherwise, culinary could
- 27:10Speaker 1: have a big day. Explosive place I've been killing. Last
- 27:15Speaker 1: week we saw a sixty yard played. The week before
- 27:18Speaker 1: we saw eighty one yard play. Gotta eliminate those, man,
- 27:21Speaker 1: and how you do that run fits gets where you're
- 27:23Speaker 1: supposed to be rallied to the football, tackle, all the
- 27:26Speaker 1: things that guys are told since when you're playing Pop
- 27:29Speaker 1: Warner when you're nineteen years old, it still makes sense
- 27:33Speaker 1: at this level. Oh that, and then Gino, keep doing
- 27:37Speaker 1: what you're doing. Baby, I am so impressed with this
- 27:40Speaker 1: dude and how he compose himself running off the field.
- 27:44Speaker 1: The post game suits are looking nicer every week, like
- 27:48Speaker 1: he's a legit starting quarterback in this league and feeling
- 27:50Speaker 1: him love Geno. Gino's done, Manu, Gino, keep it up, Gino.
- 27:55Speaker 1: If you got any fans in the world right here
- 27:57Speaker 1: on this Hat Talk podcast, for sure, Gino, we got
- 27:59Speaker 1: your shot. Um Henn Walker Man ken Walker, Rushot Penny
- 28:03Speaker 1: pick up Rushot left off big shoes of Phil. We
- 28:06Speaker 1: know what we just talked about it. Ken Walker is
- 28:09Speaker 1: a guy who's a lot of talent. You know it'll
- 28:11Speaker 1: be getting pushed into this, you know, number one running
- 28:14Speaker 1: back role and there's a lot more there with you know,
- 28:17Speaker 1: having to defend and have to pick up you know,
- 28:19Speaker 1: blitzes and things like that on first and second down.
- 28:21Speaker 1: So I'm excited to see what ken Walker can do.
- 28:23Speaker 1: You know. I'm excited for the young rookie. He's he's
- 28:25Speaker 1: a ball player, and I want to see him continue
- 28:27Speaker 1: to step in there and have this running back now
- 28:30Speaker 1: or this running back room in this running offense, not
- 28:32Speaker 1: miss a beat and Tyler Locket number sixteen. You own
- 28:37Speaker 1: the Arizona Cardinals. Go ahead and keep doing what you're doing. Man,
- 28:41Speaker 1: it's been impressive the last four games. You put off
- 28:42Speaker 1: the stats. It's it's something nice. So take care of business. Baby,
- 28:48Speaker 1: you're still in this there there, they're two and three
- 28:51Speaker 1: and they're still in the division. Yeah, you can gain
- 28:55Speaker 1: you can gain a spot if you get rid of
- 28:57Speaker 1: the Arizona Cardinals. This weekend, he huge game back at Loominfield.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Potentially will game kickoff is at one oh five, depending
- 29:06Speaker 1: on what happens with the Mariners and their deal on
- 29:09Speaker 1: the Alds. If they're playing on Sunday, the Seahawks game
- 29:11Speaker 1: will kickoff at two thirty pm Pacific. If you're listening
- 29:15Speaker 1: on your radio. We'd get going at eleven am in
- 29:17Speaker 1: that sense. But man, we're really excited about the Seahawks
- 29:19Speaker 1: gams Arizona Cardinals owning the NFC West at Loominfield should
- 29:23Speaker 1: be a fun atmosphere, a lot of people. Hopefully it
- 29:25Speaker 1: will be downtown Seattle cheering on. They're both their sports teams.
- 29:29Speaker 1: Remember you can catch us anywhere Seahawks dot com, Apple Podcast, Spotify,
- 29:33Speaker 1: sit your six XM, and more. Hopefully we'll be talking
- 29:36Speaker 1: to you next week with the Seahawks victory over the
- 29:38Speaker 1: NFC West in the Cardinals. Until then, he's Michael Bumpus,
- 29:42Speaker 1: m NASA Choby. This has been Hawk Talk preview. Talk
- 29:45Speaker 1: to you next week.
