- 0:07Speaker 1: This Meat Podcast. Welcome to Meet Eater Trivia, the only
- 0:12Speaker 1: game show where conservation always wins. I'm your host, spent
- 0:15Speaker 1: in New Art, and today we're joined by Steve Ronnella,
- 0:18Speaker 1: Janice Patelis, Seth Morris, Brodie Henderson, Chris gil Lord Moulton,
- 0:22Speaker 1: Rick Smith, Garrett Smith, and Danny Bolton. For many of you,
- 0:27Speaker 1: this is your first time playing Meat Eater Trivia. So
- 0:29Speaker 1: how do you feel about your odds winning victory? Really?
- 0:35Speaker 1: Want better? Buck? Do people even know who Garrett Smith is?
- 0:41Speaker 1: Don't they ak dirt on the game show where Steve
- 0:47Speaker 1: usually wins? Listen Calcutta, Okay, now, what makes you feel
- 0:55Speaker 1: confident that you're gonna win? I mean I just hopeful,
- 0:59Speaker 1: okayst optimistic? Yeah, but I would I would love it
- 1:02Speaker 1: so much. It's like every time I listened to Trivia,
- 1:05Speaker 1: I just imagine coming on and beating Steve, and then
- 1:07Speaker 1: I would just forever be able to say that. Yeah,
- 1:12Speaker 1: how do you normally perform? I think a middle of
- 1:15Speaker 1: the road, which should be like, well, like four or five? Right?
- 1:18Speaker 1: You think you throw some fours and fives? I think
- 1:20Speaker 1: probably both of you guys know, like you just throw
- 1:23Speaker 1: in a lot of tidbits in real life, Like, you
- 1:25Speaker 1: know a lot of random stuff that i'd be like
- 1:28Speaker 1: well equipped for trivia. Y Yeah, Rick and Dirt Yeah,
- 1:32Speaker 1: I mean Rick, I'm making it up. These are real answers.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Somebody's fact checking, yeah, is nobody fact checking you otherwise
- 1:41Speaker 1: when you're throwing those things out there? No, Google, we
- 1:43Speaker 1: don't have Internet. You got a confident delivery. Oh you'll
- 1:47Speaker 1: be you'll be glad to learn that. Um. On one
- 1:50Speaker 1: of our episodes that was on Spotify. One of our
- 1:53Speaker 1: episodes recently had to get the truth about COVID visit
- 1:56Speaker 1: this web got open a warding because we're joking about
- 2:02Speaker 1: how Doug Dirt. We're like, we're talking about how they
- 2:05Speaker 1: was they got some kind of AI function on COVID's.
- 2:09Speaker 1: We're talking about how my theory that Doug Dern is
- 2:11Speaker 1: the one that caused the spread of COVID from humans
- 2:14Speaker 1: the white tails and got flank with the truth about
- 2:17Speaker 1: COVID's Like, now everybody's gonna think that dog Dirt gave
- 2:22Speaker 1: white tis cod white tails COVID. Now, Steve Yanni said,
- 2:26Speaker 1: you guys spend a lot of time with these boys
- 2:28Speaker 1: in making a season of Meat Eater who do you
- 2:31Speaker 1: think is going to perform well? Between him? Oho asked me,
- 2:35Speaker 1: who's gonna do good? I honestly think Rick will do good. Yeah,
- 2:38Speaker 1: really yeah, as much as I don't want to say
- 2:41Speaker 1: that that's not the dog on that's not the dog
- 2:44Speaker 1: on there, guys, Juste he's been in the wildlife business
- 2:48Speaker 1: for for twenty some years. But I don't hunt, and
- 2:50Speaker 1: I don't fish. Dirt and ridge pounder do a little
- 2:56Speaker 1: and I think I think Chris gil here will do
- 2:59Speaker 1: good on all the issue questions. Maybe, well, I don't know,
- 3:02Speaker 1: is it's is a standard rod and real are we getting?
- 3:05Speaker 1: We need a bookie in here because I got money
- 3:07Speaker 1: between me and dirt as a Calcutta, and I'd also
- 3:09Speaker 1: like to do between you camera guys. I got money
- 3:12Speaker 1: on Rick. I've heard there's a sideback going on between
- 3:15Speaker 1: the cameraman about who's going to perform in the best,
- 3:17Speaker 1: But it seems like I want in that action a
- 3:19Speaker 1: lot of confidences. I think these guys are gonna surprised
- 3:23Speaker 1: because they've been a lot of places. But my memory
- 3:26Speaker 1: is not like to only out That's right, Steve, I'm
- 3:31Speaker 1: not gonna be training. Confidence is here, but one of
- 3:33Speaker 1: the greatest compliments I've received about Meat Eater Trivia is
- 3:37Speaker 1: that one of your cameraman told me I do a
- 3:39Speaker 1: good job of dealing with an honorary Stephen Ronnella, And
- 3:43Speaker 1: it sounded as though they've maybe seeing Steve Ronella honree
- 3:46Speaker 1: a lot. Well, I don't know. We just recapped a
- 3:54Speaker 1: couple of little disputes we've had. Really, yeah, but we
- 3:57Speaker 1: don't even I don't even feel the need to. You know,
- 3:59Speaker 1: sometimes we'll get in a dispute and I don't even
- 4:01Speaker 1: revisit it. Do you ever think that they're being honre Oh, yeah,
- 4:04Speaker 1: I've gotten hangry on shoots. We're just caught. We were
- 4:08Speaker 1: just talking about a thing that I said of them
- 4:10Speaker 1: in general one time, which was in very poor taste,
- 4:14Speaker 1: and you talk about the specifics of it. Oh, I'm
- 4:17Speaker 1: gonna listen to that, like that an insult I've sent
- 4:19Speaker 1: their way. Wow, if I was a camera guy, that's
- 4:24Speaker 1: that's we forgot to mention that. That's the running question
- 4:27Speaker 1: I'd go about it if I was in their line
- 4:28Speaker 1: of work. Now, each week here on Trivia, we reveal
- 4:32Speaker 1: a new stat This week, we're looking at the average
- 4:35Speaker 1: scores over time and comparing the first fifteen episodes to
- 4:39Speaker 1: the last fifteen episodes. In the first fifteen episodes, the
- 4:42Speaker 1: average player score was four point seven one. In the
- 4:46Speaker 1: last fifteen episodes, the average player score it was four
- 4:49Speaker 1: point seven zero. So the average players score has gone
- 4:53Speaker 1: down by point zero one. I think that's statistically insignificant. Oh, absolutely,
- 4:59Speaker 1: it's insignia. Now you just blame it on COVID. That's
- 5:02Speaker 1: what they're doing every state. I saw math scores went
- 5:07Speaker 1: down in every state during the pandemic math and and
- 5:10Speaker 1: I think that my daughter's class, Like, I think, like
- 5:14Speaker 1: third graders really got their teeth kicked in on math
- 5:18Speaker 1: because it's like a very important age or whatever. That's
- 5:21Speaker 1: probably a testing year to know, like when they do
- 5:25Speaker 1: that standardized stuff. Now, Steve has increased his average score
- 5:29Speaker 1: by point to five, from five point eight five to
- 5:32Speaker 1: six point one. Brody has decreased his average score by
- 5:35Speaker 1: point eight four from seven point oh one to six
- 5:38Speaker 1: point one seven. That's like an age things like I'm
- 5:43Speaker 1: still coming into prime I know, I'm like, honestly, I'm
- 5:47Speaker 1: coming into prime trivia. And I think Brody's tipping into
- 5:51Speaker 1: the like over the hill, yeah, like where they start
- 5:54Speaker 1: getting confused about I don't know COVID fog going on.
- 6:01Speaker 1: They tell you something, I just told you. That's all coming.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Honest has also increased his average score by point to seven,
- 6:09Speaker 1: from five point four three to five point seven. And
- 6:13Speaker 1: when when I took over the edge that Brody just
- 6:15Speaker 1: tipped overs is gonna He's gonna become the reigning champ. Oh,
- 6:20Speaker 1: there's a wave of going through like like senility is
- 6:23Speaker 1: hitting Brody. Senility will hit me in two years, Yanni
- 6:26Speaker 1: will be like at the peak game Seth's gonna have
- 6:31Speaker 1: a great future. I don't know about that. Now. For
- 6:37Speaker 1: the average winning scores, the average winning score in the
- 6:39Speaker 1: first fifteen episodes of a six point nine and the
- 6:42Speaker 1: average winning score in the last fifteen episodes is seven
- 6:45Speaker 1: point three six, So the average winning score has gone
- 6:48Speaker 1: up by point four six. Does that mean we're getting
- 6:51Speaker 1: better or your questions are getting easier? I think the
- 6:54Speaker 1: top performers are doing better, is what it means. So
- 6:58Speaker 1: the three of you that I just talked about, a
- 7:00Speaker 1: broody who's gone on point eight seven, that's like that
- 7:03Speaker 1: rounds up to one. I gotta target on my back man,
- 7:09Speaker 1: and we have some housekeeping to get to. In a
- 7:10Speaker 1: previous game of trivia, we had a question about what
- 7:12Speaker 1: the cost of a federal duck stamp is in The
- 7:16Speaker 1: correct answer was twenty five dollars, but about a dozen
- 7:19Speaker 1: listeners from around the country rode in saying that they
- 7:21Speaker 1: paid more than that. They weren't wrong, as many states
- 7:24Speaker 1: often charged anywhere from twenty six to twenty nine dollars
- 7:27Speaker 1: when you purchase a stamp through them. However, that additional
- 7:30Speaker 1: fee is what the state is charging for things like shipping,
- 7:33Speaker 1: processing and the ability to have an e stamp. So
- 7:36Speaker 1: the base price is twenty five dollars and that's what
- 7:40Speaker 1: you'd be charged if you went to the post office,
- 7:42Speaker 1: but if you buy one through a state's website, you'll
- 7:44Speaker 1: likely be hit with extra fees. You've been new heart.
- 7:49Speaker 1: You know that I paid fifty today from Wisconsin. You
- 7:52Speaker 1: just bought yours. Yeah. Yeah. Spencer likes little. Spencer likes
- 7:59Speaker 1: the be a little twist of the sword when it
- 8:03Speaker 1: comes to like he likes stories, writings where people write
- 8:06Speaker 1: in like they were they writer in and would be like, hey,
- 8:09Speaker 1: you know, just politely pointing out where you made a mistake,
- 8:14Speaker 1: and Spencer will read it and then the listeners like, oh,
- 8:17Speaker 1: Spencer made a mistake, and then Spencer will circle around
- 8:21Speaker 1: and he'll do like a yeah, but not really. He
- 8:25Speaker 1: loves that kind of feedback. Next episode, he seems like
- 8:28Speaker 1: he's getting his he's getting his cake and he's eating
- 8:30Speaker 1: it two because he's he's oh, how gracious, how gracious
- 8:33Speaker 1: he is to point out where he missed. But in
- 8:35Speaker 1: the ender's always a little like the more you think
- 8:37Speaker 1: about actually right. Next episode, though, I will take a
- 8:41Speaker 1: big loss. Um, I have to issue a correction on
- 8:44Speaker 1: top of a correction. So that's come and you don't
- 8:47Speaker 1: have like a little thing about how you were actually right. No, no,
- 8:50Speaker 1: I just now the The Shelby index for this game
- 8:56Speaker 1: of trivia is a five, indicating that our winner should
- 9:00Speaker 1: it's a perfect game, but I'm thinking the best score
- 9:02Speaker 1: will be maybe more like eight, and with that we're
- 9:05Speaker 1: out of the game of trivia. Play the drop, Phil, Look,
- 9:09Speaker 1: I need to know what I stand to win everything?
- 9:14Speaker 1: How's that just tend to win everything? Suckers? Question one.
- 9:27Speaker 1: The topic is hunting, and as always, this will be
- 9:29Speaker 1: multiple choice. Which of these has the lowest population in Canada?
- 9:36Speaker 1: Is it caribou, musk ox, elk or moose. Which of
- 9:43Speaker 1: these has the lowest population in Canada? Your choices are caribou,
- 9:49Speaker 1: musk ox, elk or moose. Quick answer from Steve, I
- 9:56Speaker 1: thought you went to right. Does anybody think they know
- 9:59Speaker 1: this a trick question? I'm not going to tell you
- 10:02Speaker 1: that it feels like a trick question. It definitely feels
- 10:05Speaker 1: like a trick Okay, Johnny, how you feel about this one?
- 10:11Speaker 1: Feeling like I've narrowed it down to two looking for
- 10:14Speaker 1: the lowest population in Kennedy choices are caribou, musk ox,
- 10:17Speaker 1: elk and moose. Does everybody have an answer? No? I
- 10:21Speaker 1: just said what I know it is, or what I
- 10:25Speaker 1: think it is, exactly like the line of thinking. Go
- 10:37Speaker 1: ahead and feel your answers. We have Steve saying muskox.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Danny sang muskox, Rick saying muskox. Lauren put the letter on, Confused,
- 10:47Speaker 1: Lawrence saying elk. Brody, No, No, he said muskox. Okay.
- 10:53Speaker 1: The only one who didn't is I think Chris got
- 10:56Speaker 1: it right? Yeah? I was thinking of the only person
- 10:59Speaker 1: who didn't say musk ox is Chris, And he said elk.
- 11:02Speaker 1: The correct answer is elk. It was a trick question.
- 11:10Speaker 1: These numbers are via the Canadian Wildlife Federation. There are
- 11:15Speaker 1: approximately two million caribou in Canada. That's followed by seven
- 11:18Speaker 1: hundred fifty thousand moos, eighty five thousand musk ox and
- 11:22Speaker 1: seventy two thousand. They really have eight and I think
- 11:27Speaker 1: like sixty thousand of those live on two islands banks
- 11:31Speaker 1: in Victoria or something like that. Thousand uh difference between
- 11:38Speaker 1: elk and muskoxen when you're talking like five thousands, probably
- 11:43Speaker 1: a twenty difference. So when you're talking them all piled
- 11:46Speaker 1: up in a big pile, that's a big difference. The
- 11:50Speaker 1: only person who got it right, Chris with Chund pulls
- 11:53Speaker 1: out ahead. Yes, well done. You know what savorite? Should
- 11:57Speaker 1: we quit? Said? Question? One question? Okay, that was a
- 12:04Speaker 1: great question. To the topic is fishing. This next great
- 12:08Speaker 1: question comes to us via Rebecca Champion. If you have
- 12:10Speaker 1: a question you think is right for Meat Eater Trivia,
- 12:12Speaker 1: you can send it to trivia at the meat eater
- 12:14Speaker 1: dot com. What is the organ called that fish used
- 12:18Speaker 1: to control their buoyancy? What is the organ called that
- 12:24Speaker 1: fish used to control their buoyancy? Pretty quick answers from
- 12:30Speaker 1: the non cameraman a few of the cameramen doing some thinking, Oh,
- 12:35Speaker 1: I know I'm right on this one. You got this
- 12:37Speaker 1: one gonna go to oh, right off the bat a
- 12:41Speaker 1: sweet white tail hat. So this comes right out and
- 12:44Speaker 1: says it. Does everybody have an answer? Just gets it
- 12:55Speaker 1: right out of the open. Well, it does clarify. It's
- 12:58Speaker 1: a big old. It's a big old. Does everybody have
- 13:01Speaker 1: an answer? Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have
- 13:03Speaker 1: Steve saying swim bladder, Danny saying bubble, Rica can't see
- 13:08Speaker 1: your board, Rick sang bladder and saying, gils Brody saying
- 13:12Speaker 1: air bladder, says saying swim bladder, Chris saying, Karen saying
- 13:18Speaker 1: air sack, and Jana saying swim bladder. The correct answer
- 13:22Speaker 1: is swim bladder. How about the people who said just
- 13:25Speaker 1: bladder or air bladder, air bladder? No, really, it's not
- 13:30Speaker 1: my car. We're called dog And ask him, I really
- 13:34Speaker 1: don't know which direction to go on that you don't
- 13:36Speaker 1: go with your heart, I would say no, but it's
- 13:42Speaker 1: the same, I mean, it's kind of the same things.
- 13:44Speaker 1: It's like, come on, nearly every fish has a swim bladder.
- 13:49Speaker 1: Some of the only ones that don't are cartilaginous fish
- 13:52Speaker 1: like sharks and rays. To help compensate for their tendency
- 13:55Speaker 1: to sink, sharks have oil in their liver that's less
- 13:58Speaker 1: dense than seawater. Without it, they would be bottom dwellers. Oh,
- 14:02Speaker 1: I didn't know that. That's what that's all about. That's
- 14:03Speaker 1: what they got going on there because they don't have
- 14:05Speaker 1: a swim bladder. You know what what I'd like to
- 14:07Speaker 1: dig into someday is what why some fish can't regulate
- 14:12Speaker 1: that swim bladder quickly while the fish can regulate that
- 14:16Speaker 1: swim bladder quickly. Mean the difference between fish that suffer
- 14:20Speaker 1: from barrel trauma when you reel him in, you can
- 14:24Speaker 1: horse the hall of it in and it does. He's
- 14:25Speaker 1: like able to stay in tune with the depth change.
- 14:28Speaker 1: So you're not constantly seeing that at the fish shack
- 14:30Speaker 1: in Alaska like certain species, certain species are. They don't
- 14:34Speaker 1: they don't move, they don't change what do you call that?
- 14:39Speaker 1: They don't change depth? Yeah, they don't. They can't change
- 14:41Speaker 1: depth quickly, and certain fish can. And I wonder what
- 14:45Speaker 1: if it's always linked to behavior? To be interesting to
- 14:48Speaker 1: know if if the behavior is dictated by right this
- 14:53Speaker 1: is like chicken or the egg. Is the behavior dictated
- 14:56Speaker 1: by their inability to change quick? Or they don't need
- 15:00Speaker 1: an ability to change quick because they have a certain
- 15:03Speaker 1: kind of groove where they just stay glued to the bottom.
- 15:05Speaker 1: It would be interesting to see what happened if you
- 15:07Speaker 1: reeled the rock fish and super slow. I'm sure you'll
- 15:11Speaker 1: be fine, right if you just milked it? Yeah? Question three?
- 15:15Speaker 1: The topic is public lands. This famous photographer who received
- 15:19Speaker 1: the Presidential Medal of Freedom in nineteen eighty is best
- 15:23Speaker 1: known for his black and white images of national parks.
- 15:29Speaker 1: See this is the bone. Well, this was a hard
- 15:32Speaker 1: group to write a bone for, but I think this
- 15:34Speaker 1: is it. We'll see how they do. This famous photographer
- 15:38Speaker 1: who received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in nineteen eighty
- 15:42Speaker 1: is best known for his black and white images of
- 15:45Speaker 1: national parks. Or name a famous photographer that everybody did
- 15:52Speaker 1: do all the camera folks know this one? You guys
- 15:54Speaker 1: got this might be one point. Does everybody have an answer?
- 16:01Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. Every single person, says
- 16:05Speaker 1: Ansel Adams, and they got it right. Adams received that
- 16:08Speaker 1: Presidential Medal of Freedom for his work in the National
- 16:11Speaker 1: Park system. He was also a key advisor in establishing
- 16:14Speaker 1: the photography department at the Museum of Modern Art in
- 16:17Speaker 1: New York City. Angel has a wilderness area in the
- 16:20Speaker 1: Sierra Nevadas and a mountain in Yosemite National Park that
- 16:23Speaker 1: are named after him. I knew it wasn't gonna be
- 16:25Speaker 1: Robert Mabelthorpe. Nope, that'd be a distinctly non wildlife related choice.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Question for the topic is cooking. This next great question
- 16:35Speaker 1: comes to is via Kelly and Knox. If you have
- 16:37Speaker 1: a question you think is right for Meat Eater Trivia,
- 16:39Speaker 1: you can send it to trivia at the meat eater
- 16:41Speaker 1: dot com. Named two of the three crops that Native
- 16:46Speaker 1: American cultures referred to as the Three Sisters. Named two
- 16:52Speaker 1: of the three crops that Native American cultures referred to
- 16:56Speaker 1: as the Three Sisters. Some quick answers. I don't know
- 17:02Speaker 1: if I put them all down, doesn't do me together? No, No,
- 17:05Speaker 1: you know, folks are just making an educated guess or
- 17:07Speaker 1: if they know this looks like some confidence in the room, though, Steve,
- 17:11Speaker 1: you know this, no no problem, bro? Do you know this? Um? No?
- 17:19Speaker 1: I mean, like maybe looking for two of the three
- 17:23Speaker 1: crops that are part of the three Sisters. Does everybody
- 17:26Speaker 1: have an answer? No, Yanni taking his time. The guy
- 17:30Speaker 1: with the heart out says, we gotta move this along.
- 17:36Speaker 1: You ready, Yeah, go ahead and reveal your answers. We
- 17:39Speaker 1: have Steve saying corn and beans, Danny saying corn and wheat,
- 17:43Speaker 1: Rick saying corn and beans, Lorenzo saying I don't know
- 17:47Speaker 1: what that says Nick and Sage, Maze and yams Seth
- 17:52Speaker 1: saying wheat and corn, Chris sang wild rice and maize,
- 17:56Speaker 1: Garrett saying wheat, and May's Joanna saying corn and squash.
- 18:01Speaker 1: Jeez me, Janni and the three crops in the Three
- 18:06Speaker 1: Sisters are corn, beans, and squash did pretty well because
- 18:13Speaker 1: the beans three Sisters crop model was used by tribes
- 18:18Speaker 1: from the Great Lakes to Central America. The combo of
- 18:21Speaker 1: these three plants is a form of companion planting. The
- 18:24Speaker 1: corn provides stocks for the beans to crawl, the beans
- 18:28Speaker 1: provide the soil with nitrogen, and the squash leaves shade
- 18:31Speaker 1: the ground. If you want to start your own three Sisters,
- 18:34Speaker 1: guard and then go to the Meat Eater dot com
- 18:35Speaker 1: and read Jordan Tony's Wild and Whole article called how
- 18:38Speaker 1: to plant a three sisters garden. If Joannie wasn't low
- 18:42Speaker 1: on time, I would I would like to critique some
- 18:44Speaker 1: of the answers. Yeah, what do you got? Well? I
- 18:46Speaker 1: feel like anyone that went to grade school learned about
- 18:49Speaker 1: how wheat was first domesticated in Mesopotamia, and Chris, being
- 18:55Speaker 1: from the Great Lakes region, would know that wild rice
- 18:57Speaker 1: grows in the water. M M, I have a problem
- 19:03Speaker 1: on his mind, that wild rice is on his mind.
- 19:07Speaker 1: I was kind of thinking about how, what where things
- 19:09Speaker 1: originated and when they got to North America. I was
- 19:12Speaker 1: even on the fence about corn man. I was like, Oh,
- 19:15Speaker 1: we don't have the time now for Steve. Steve to
- 19:17Speaker 1: critique though if I was going to, We'll just move on.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Question five. The topic is fishing. What is the name
- 19:26Speaker 1: of the world's largest sport fishing trade show that's been
- 19:29Speaker 1: held in Orlando since? What is the name of the
- 19:35Speaker 1: world's largest sport fishing trade show that's been held in
- 19:40Speaker 1: Orlando since? Steve? Do you have any of those three
- 19:46Speaker 1: sisters in your garden? I am a very avid uh
- 19:52Speaker 1: grower of pole beans. Um like a string being type
- 19:58Speaker 1: pole beans girls because it's so traumatic, but they're not
- 20:00Speaker 1: going up cornstocks. No, I have them growing up right
- 20:03Speaker 1: now as interested as I cut some green willow, and
- 20:07Speaker 1: I usually cut aspen, but this year I cut green
- 20:10Speaker 1: willow to make my poles by trellis Is and it
- 20:13Speaker 1: it rooted. Oh interesting, I caught it, stripped it sunk
- 20:17Speaker 1: in the garden and started sprouting leaves everywhere and rooted
- 20:20Speaker 1: in an I pulled him out. Didn't you bring back
- 20:25Speaker 1: from Arkansas? When I did kane out of Clay's garden
- 20:28Speaker 1: that only lasted a year? You know, I was so just.
- 20:30Speaker 1: I actually filed a complaint with him about how this
- 20:31Speaker 1: point I was in that cane he gave me. I
- 20:34Speaker 1: thought it'd last for in eternity. It just doesn't like that.
- 20:36Speaker 1: I don't think it likes that. The dry, the dry
- 20:40Speaker 1: conditions it does. It just turned brittle and fell apart.
- 20:43Speaker 1: One more time. Your question five, what is the name
- 20:45Speaker 1: of the world's largest sport fishing trade show that's been
- 20:48Speaker 1: held in Orlando since? Does everybody have an answer? Go
- 20:52Speaker 1: ahead and reveal your answers. We have Steve saying I cast,
- 20:55Speaker 1: Danny saying Pologic Expo of Pole Bending sing w s F.
- 21:01Speaker 1: Lorenzo saying Florida Fish felt Fest, Brodie Sang NAFTA North
- 21:08Speaker 1: American Free Trade A line that's saying I Cast, Chris
- 21:11Speaker 1: Sang Wall Hanger Convention, Garrett saying, Martin Mayhem, and Janice
- 21:16Speaker 1: Sang I Cast. The correct answer is eye Cast. About
- 21:22Speaker 1: twelve thousand. It's like a normal fishing dude would have
- 21:25Speaker 1: no reason to go there. About twelve thousand people attend
- 21:29Speaker 1: I Cast each year. It's historically where the biggest brands
- 21:33Speaker 1: in the industry reveal their newest products. The next I
- 21:36Speaker 1: Cast will be held in Orlando for the tenth straight
- 21:39Speaker 1: year on July eleven. Phil, We're halfway through the game
- 21:44Speaker 1: of trivia. Give us a scoreboard update. Al Right, everyone's
- 21:48Speaker 1: on the board with one point. We have Danny, Lauren, Garrett,
- 21:54Speaker 1: and man so far on the other side of that hill.
- 21:56Speaker 1: He's rolling. Brodie Henderson also has one point. Oh, like,
- 22:02Speaker 1: what how many questions are corn pop? Oh? We got
- 22:13Speaker 1: with two points? Chris and Rick Seth has three points
- 22:18Speaker 1: and tied for first place four points apiece, Stephen Ronella
- 22:21Speaker 1: and Janie Patelis. That's emerging as a real threat. Don't
- 22:27Speaker 1: curse me. Question six, The topic is hunting. As of October,
- 22:43Speaker 1: there are seven states that don't allow the use of
- 22:46Speaker 1: dogs to track wounded big game. Name one of those states.
- 22:53Speaker 1: As of right now, there are seven states that don't
- 22:56Speaker 1: allow the use of dogs to track wounded game. Name
- 23:01Speaker 1: one of those states. Nobody knew this one right off
- 23:05Speaker 1: the bat. It was gonna be getting some guesses. But
- 23:07Speaker 1: you have a seven and fifty chance of hitting one.
- 23:11Speaker 1: What's that round up too? You can't round that down,
- 23:13Speaker 1: can you? No? You can't, Like you have a fourteen
- 23:22Speaker 1: percent chance getting this right? Steve, you think you got
- 23:26Speaker 1: the fourteen percent? I've seen a I saw a map,
- 23:31Speaker 1: a color coded map, and I and I well, i'll
- 23:35Speaker 1: tell you later. Okay, does everybody have a state written down? Brody?
- 23:42Speaker 1: I got two down? Pick one? Yeah, yeah, my first one.
- 23:50Speaker 1: Where we have Steve saying Oregon, Danny saying California, Rick
- 23:55Speaker 1: saying Montana, Lorenzo saying Washington, Brody saying Colorado, saying Alaska,
- 24:01Speaker 1: Chris saying New York, Garrett saying Iowa, and Janie saying California.
- 24:06Speaker 1: The seven states are Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Washington, Oregon,
- 24:12Speaker 1: Nevada in Arizona, Dude, I'm part of the try state.
- 24:16Speaker 1: Man had a few folks get it right and everyone
- 24:19Speaker 1: else was almost like bordering a state that does outlaw.
- 24:22Speaker 1: What do you what do you get? What do you guess?
- 24:24Speaker 1: Or because I remember there being two remember like the
- 24:27Speaker 1: Pacific Northwest and then the north the northeast, being like
- 24:32Speaker 1: in this little map is this was? What was that outfit? Yohnnie?
- 24:35Speaker 1: It's like the blood trackers they had a map. Were
- 24:39Speaker 1: you supposed to I'm I'm a full supporter. I think
- 24:43Speaker 1: the um once you once it's wounded, why not find
- 24:46Speaker 1: the damn thing? Just have it been on a leash law.
- 24:50Speaker 1: I can't see any reason why you would ever handicap
- 24:53Speaker 1: anyone recovering and recovering something that you already hit. Anyways,
- 24:57Speaker 1: just let me go find the damn the le game?
- 24:59Speaker 1: What do you gaining from not letting them find it?
- 25:02Speaker 1: Was California on the list or no has spotty coverage.
- 25:07Speaker 1: Some places it is allowed you have to contact a
- 25:09Speaker 1: game wardan ahead of time, but parts of California it
- 25:12Speaker 1: is legal to use a dog like I could even see.
- 25:15Speaker 1: And you get into a lot of enforcement stuff where
- 25:17Speaker 1: it's hardware. Let's say you know, uh, you'd say, well,
- 25:22Speaker 1: I think you should be able to use thermal vision,
- 25:24Speaker 1: thermal night vision for um or a thermal scope for tracking.
- 25:29Speaker 1: So then you got a thermal scope in your backpack
- 25:31Speaker 1: where you're not supposed to help a thermal scope, and like,
- 25:33Speaker 1: oh yeah, but I have I only have it if
- 25:36Speaker 1: I wound something. So you get into a lot of
- 25:37Speaker 1: you create hard scenarios for enforcement officials. But I just
- 25:44Speaker 1: don't see you out with a dog at night being
- 25:47Speaker 1: that there's something else going on, no, because you're probably
- 25:50Speaker 1: not gonna bring a dog with you hunting because it's
- 25:52Speaker 1: gonna mess up your whole deal. And then it's like,
- 25:54Speaker 1: I don't know a lot. I mean, oh yeah, bringing
- 26:00Speaker 1: it was illegal a dog with your big game hunting
- 26:02Speaker 1: in Colorado, wasn't it. I can't remember. The list of
- 26:05Speaker 1: states that allow the use of blood tracking dogs has
- 26:08Speaker 1: drastically changed over the last decade. In two thousand eleven,
- 26:12Speaker 1: there were just twenty seven states where it was legal.
- 26:14Speaker 1: In nineteen there were thirty five states, and today there
- 26:18Speaker 1: are forty three states. To find a blood tracking dog
- 26:21Speaker 1: near you go to United Blood Trackers dot Org. If
- 26:24Speaker 1: you're nervous about it, put it have it, be that
- 26:26Speaker 1: it's gonna be on a leash track with leash good
- 26:29Speaker 1: reason if you're worried about it. Question seven, the topic
- 26:32Speaker 1: is cooking. What New York City borrow has a tomato
- 26:37Speaker 1: based clam chowder named after it? What New York City
- 26:43Speaker 1: borrow has a tomato based clam chowder named after it?
- 26:49Speaker 1: Nobody knew this one right off the bat yourself, bro,
- 26:53Speaker 1: this has anyone besides Steve lived in New York City? Yes?
- 26:59Speaker 1: And no? No, I don't. I don't know. Well, yeah,
- 27:02Speaker 1: we just learned. It doesn't matter named the Burrows for us?
- 27:06Speaker 1: I don't know, you don't. He don't even know why
- 27:08Speaker 1: I know it. I know because Christopher, when I was
- 27:12Speaker 1: a kid, this I wouldn't. I would only eat this
- 27:14Speaker 1: kind of not the Really YEA didn't like the other
- 27:18Speaker 1: cond and you referred to it by this name. Yeah,
- 27:21Speaker 1: it was right on the can of soup. Oh really,
- 27:25Speaker 1: I know Christoph Rain told me this, What New York
- 27:28Speaker 1: City borrow han's a tomato based clam chowder named after it?
- 27:31Speaker 1: Does everybody have an answer? Watch me get it wrong? Yanni?
- 27:34Speaker 1: Do you know? Do you have an answer? Do you
- 27:36Speaker 1: know the Burroughs? I know a couple of them. You
- 27:40Speaker 1: gonna pick one. I guess I'm gonna have to. I
- 27:43Speaker 1: don't know what the burrow is. Oh, you know, Alaska's
- 27:48Speaker 1: did into burrows. Yeah, really the whole state. Yeah they don't.
- 27:52Speaker 1: It's not counties. It's burrows, North Slope. Borrow acts like
- 27:57Speaker 1: a geopolitical Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have
- 28:02Speaker 1: dirty Steve saying Manhattan, Danny saying New England, Rick saying Manhattan,
- 28:06Speaker 1: Lorenzo saying so Party saying Manhattan, Seth saying Manhattan, Chris
- 28:13Speaker 1: saying Manhattan, Garrett saying Manhattan, and Janice saying Brooklyn. I
- 28:17Speaker 1: just couldn't think of like queens chowder or something. You know,
- 28:20Speaker 1: Steve gott is Manhattan. Yeah. What makes Manhattan clam chowder
- 28:27Speaker 1: unique is its use of a tomato based broth instead
- 28:31Speaker 1: of milk or cream. Some New Englanders consider this to
- 28:34Speaker 1: be a sin, so much so that the state of
- 28:36Speaker 1: Maine introduced to bill in nineteen thirty nine that would
- 28:39Speaker 1: have outlawed putting tomatoes in clam chowder, but the bill
- 28:43Speaker 1: did not pass. You know what, I have zero tolerance for.
- 28:46Speaker 1: What's that all these things about? Uh? If you put
- 28:50Speaker 1: beans in it? It's not chilly if you do this
- 28:53Speaker 1: it's not that if you do this, it's not that
- 28:56Speaker 1: I get a little worn out by that stuff. Are
- 28:58Speaker 1: you gonna tell us why you knew that answer? Now?
- 29:00Speaker 1: I told you Christy Raine told me. Oh, but I
- 29:02Speaker 1: thought there was more of the story. That's it. No,
- 29:04Speaker 1: we're doing and we're doing it chold. We we've done
- 29:07Speaker 1: chowder recipes in our cookbooks. And Christie Ruwayne is our
- 29:13Speaker 1: mastermind collaborator. She runs our cook with projects and she
- 29:16Speaker 1: knows everything like that. Good on here and there are
- 29:19Speaker 1: five Burroughs, Yanni, what are the there's Brooklyn Christopher? No?
- 29:27Speaker 1: Did I know that person? Question? The topic is conservation.
- 29:33Speaker 1: This is our work Sharp listener question of the Week,
- 29:36Speaker 1: which was won by Isaac Diamond for sending this great question.
- 29:39Speaker 1: Isaac is going to get a work Sharp care package
- 29:41Speaker 1: that includes three of our favorite knife sharpeners. If you
- 29:44Speaker 1: want a chance to win the listener Question of the Week,
- 29:46Speaker 1: then send your question to Trivia at the meat Eater
- 29:49Speaker 1: dot com. The dude's got some at least sharp fingers
- 29:52Speaker 1: in his future sharper better being there broadheads with that
- 29:55Speaker 1: sucker too. This bird, which is considered critically in Dane Jared,
- 30:00Speaker 1: has the largest wingspan in North America. This bird, which
- 30:07Speaker 1: is considered critically endangered, has the largest wingspan in North America. Now, Brodie,
- 30:14Speaker 1: why did you like Manhattan clam chowder so much? I
- 30:17Speaker 1: don't know. I just when I was a kid, I
- 30:19Speaker 1: didn't like that creamy suit. And are you still that way?
- 30:22Speaker 1: You like the tomato clam chowder the other stuff? Now? Too, surprise?
- 30:28Speaker 1: That has set it right on the can. I'm pretty
- 30:30Speaker 1: sure it did again, this white camel soup can. This bird,
- 30:35Speaker 1: which is considered critically endangered, has the largest wingspan in
- 30:38Speaker 1: North America. Does everybody have an answer? By yeah, Garrett
- 30:43Speaker 1: doing a lot of writing. Everybody else? Good that first one.
- 30:49Speaker 1: Reveal your answers. We have Steve saying the California condor,
- 30:53Speaker 1: Danny saying Osprey, Rick sang California condor, Lorenzo and Brody
- 30:58Speaker 1: seth All saying the California that says just condor. Are
- 31:03Speaker 1: there multiple condors? Yes? There are the only one I
- 31:08Speaker 1: know about California Eagle and saying California condor. The correct
- 31:17Speaker 1: answer is California Coni. Forgot about that. I don't think
- 31:20Speaker 1: we'll take just condor. So what honesty here? I only
- 31:24Speaker 1: knew of California Indian This is a contest about how
- 31:28Speaker 1: much you know. There's which is even bigger. I think
- 31:34Speaker 1: the monster. Oh, I guess that makes sense. At ten
- 31:39Speaker 1: feet from tip to tip, the California condor's wingspan is
- 31:42Speaker 1: nearly three ft wider than a bald eagles. At their
- 31:45Speaker 1: lowest point, they were just ten California condors left in
- 31:48Speaker 1: the wild, but thanks to conservation efforts, today they are
- 31:51Speaker 1: about three hundred California condors in the wild and another
- 31:55Speaker 1: two hundred living in captivity. Are they all in California now?
- 31:59Speaker 1: I think they're like Utah. They're spread out over to
- 32:04Speaker 1: Grand Canyon. Oh, that'd be wild to see. Phil, we
- 32:09Speaker 1: have two questions left. Give us a scoreboard update. Okay, well,
- 32:13Speaker 1: since Seth didn't know his condors, we only have two
- 32:16Speaker 1: players left in the game. We have Steven Ronella, who
- 32:20Speaker 1: has seven points. He's only missed one and with five
- 32:23Speaker 1: it's a pretty big gap there. We have honest Pateellis,
- 32:26Speaker 1: but you can still care and I kind of knew
- 32:28Speaker 1: the one ding. So we need Steve to get these
- 32:33Speaker 1: last two long Ambrodi to get the last two right?
- 32:36Speaker 1: Can you give us I'm sorry honestly at the last two. Right,
- 32:39Speaker 1: how about the cameraman? How are they doing? They have
- 32:40Speaker 1: their own competition? Yeah, sure thing. Uh Danny Bolten has one.
- 32:45Speaker 1: He's dead dead last, but he's really he's given it
- 32:49Speaker 1: his all. Well, he spend his whole life in Hawaii. Yeah,
- 32:54Speaker 1: there's no Manhattan clampshot. Uh Rick has four, Laura has three,
- 33:01Speaker 1: Brody has three, Seth has four, Chris has three, and
- 33:05Speaker 1: Garrett dirt Myth has too. Two questions left. Question nine.
- 33:10Speaker 1: The topic is fishing. What teenage fugitive with an alliterative
- 33:17Speaker 1: nickname stole a thirty four ft tuna fishing boat in
- 33:20Speaker 1: Washington while on the run in two thousand ten? What
- 33:26Speaker 1: what teenage fugitive with an a literative nickname stole a
- 33:31Speaker 1: thirty four ft tuna fishing boat in Washington while on
- 33:35Speaker 1: the run in two thousand ten? Did you also steal plane?
- 33:38Speaker 1: I'm not going to give you any hints looking for
- 33:41Speaker 1: the teenage fugitive with an alliterative nickname who stole a
- 33:44Speaker 1: thirty four ft tuna fishing boat in Washington while on
- 33:48Speaker 1: the run in two thousand ten, And you're just looking
- 33:50Speaker 1: for his nickname, just looking for his nickname? Do you
- 33:53Speaker 1: know this one? Phil? What have you known this one? No?
- 33:58Speaker 1: This may be one of the dumbest questions you've ever asked. Yeah,
- 34:01Speaker 1: I just don't. He was a tunabouts still a tuna
- 34:04Speaker 1: fishing stupid, but still not totally stupid. Nobody has an answer.
- 34:10Speaker 1: I don't think I got one. I don't know if
- 34:12Speaker 1: it's right. I might be confusing it with a different fugitive.
- 34:18Speaker 1: Be honest, I got one, Okay, teenage fugitive with an
- 34:25Speaker 1: alliterative nickname. Does everybody have an answer? Who's gonna come
- 34:28Speaker 1: up with one? Yeah, we're talking about but I got
- 34:34Speaker 1: I got nothing. I got this wrong. Everybody ready, go
- 34:38Speaker 1: ahead and feel your answers. We have Steve saying slippery slim, Oh,
- 34:43Speaker 1: he's got, Danny saying McQueen, Rick saying Captain, Chris Lorenzo
- 34:47Speaker 1: saying squire Brody without an answer saying dumbass, Chris saying
- 34:52Speaker 1: Barefoot Bandit, Garrett saying bitchy little bit, and is saying
- 34:57Speaker 1: big Bob, Chris got it. The Barefoot Bandit's real name
- 35:12Speaker 1: is Colton Harris Moore. While on the run, he stole
- 35:15Speaker 1: millions of dollars worth of planes, boats, and vehicles. He
- 35:19Speaker 1: was captured in July of two thousand ten after crashing
- 35:22Speaker 1: a stolen plane into a Bohemian fishing village. More was
- 35:26Speaker 1: sentenced to seven years in prison in order to pay
- 35:28Speaker 1: one point four million dollars in restitution, which he accomplished
- 35:32Speaker 1: by selling the film rights from his story to twentieth
- 35:35Speaker 1: century Fox. Did you say bohemian Bohemian? How am I
- 35:42Speaker 1: saying around? Bohemian? Got it okay? Like I said Bohemian?
- 35:46Speaker 1: Now why is that roady brody? He stole a fishing
- 35:48Speaker 1: boat at one point, he crashed into a fishing village.
- 35:50Speaker 1: He crashed his plane onto some Yakima Yakima Reservation public land.
- 35:55Speaker 1: He gonna do a lot of campaign defending it's very bigger.
- 35:58Speaker 1: I feel very strongly this is protest too much. Yeah,
- 36:03Speaker 1: I just I think it's it was made into a movie,
- 36:06Speaker 1: this character. I know. But twentieth century Fox paid one
- 36:09Speaker 1: point four million dollars UH for the story, which he
- 36:13Speaker 1: then had to use the payoff restitution fees for stealing
- 36:16Speaker 1: all those planes and boats and things. I could picture
- 36:19Speaker 1: one of them when he was younger. You know who
- 36:22Speaker 1: they would have put in it. They would have had
- 36:23Speaker 1: it be Uh, yeah, yeah, or that's the mottern day,
- 36:27Speaker 1: catch me if you can had him be in it,
- 36:29Speaker 1: or they'd use uh the guy from American Honey. Uh.
- 36:37Speaker 1: Question ten, we have our winner with Stephen or Nella.
- 36:40Speaker 1: But at the game right, you're at seven, Yanni's at five.
- 36:48Speaker 1: We have some other folks at five as well. But
- 36:50Speaker 1: just one question left. Question to the topic is woodsmanship.
- 36:53Speaker 1: This next great question comes to his via Cody Pritchard.
- 36:56Speaker 1: If you have a question you think is right for
- 36:58Speaker 1: meatingat trivia, you can send it to trivia at the
- 37:00Speaker 1: meat eator dot com. From what direction does the moon rise? From?
- 37:07Speaker 1: What direction does the moon rise? The topic is woodsman ship.
- 37:17Speaker 1: It seems though nobody just like knew this one. No,
- 37:19Speaker 1: I had no idea. I still don't know. Does everybody
- 37:23Speaker 1: have an answer? Looking from what direction the moon rises? Steve?
- 37:30Speaker 1: You good? No, I need to give me a second. Okay,
- 37:32Speaker 1: looking for what direction the moon rises? You know what?
- 37:37Speaker 1: I think should know this one? Why should he know
- 37:40Speaker 1: this one? Films? Yeah, I should notice. I don't think
- 37:45Speaker 1: about them. I know the sun. Where the sun is
- 37:47Speaker 1: at any hour of the day. I'll tell you pointed
- 37:50Speaker 1: months earlier, point right there at every time. Do you
- 37:53Speaker 1: guys ever do the thing that Neil de grass Tyson
- 37:55Speaker 1: gets really mad about where you film like a sunset
- 37:58Speaker 1: and then you put in reverse and make it a
- 37:59Speaker 1: sun rise vice versa control editors? Yeah, those are the editor.
- 38:07Speaker 1: Does everybody have an answer? Looking for what direction the
- 38:09Speaker 1: moon rises? Steve? I think I think he's wrote down
- 38:19Speaker 1: every direction so far. Ready, go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 38:24Speaker 1: We have Steve saying west, Danny saying east, Rick saying east,
- 38:27Speaker 1: Lorenzo saying east, Brod He's saying he's set saying west,
- 38:30Speaker 1: Chris saying west, Garrett saying east, and Janice saying south.
- 38:35Speaker 1: The correct answer is east one direction. The moon is
- 38:45Speaker 1: a big part of celestial navigation because it's both hemispheres
- 38:51Speaker 1: and it's brighter than these stars. Some of the things
- 38:54Speaker 1: you can learn from the moon's position in phase include directions,
- 38:57Speaker 1: time of day, and distance traveled. Was thinking who who's
- 39:03Speaker 1: whose podcast feed? This is? I would like to wrap
- 39:07Speaker 1: her up Prior to that question? Can we get a
- 39:14Speaker 1: final school board update Phil to see who is the
- 39:17Speaker 1: champion cameraman when it comes to trivia, Yeah, Steves, the winner.
- 39:21Speaker 1: The champion cameraman is Rick Smith five. Well done. It's
- 39:31Speaker 1: a failure because I did getting close to beating Steve.
- 39:35Speaker 1: I've strayed in my donations. What happens next is Steve
- 39:38Speaker 1: gets to choose where a five dollar donation from Meatato goes. Um, well, no,
- 39:44Speaker 1: I'm just walking people through my logic. I've done some giving,
- 39:48Speaker 1: and I've done some giving. Well. First off, I'd like
- 39:51Speaker 1: to thank my parents. I've done some giving in honor
- 39:56Speaker 1: of guests, if you remember a couple of times I've
- 39:59Speaker 1: done that. But I want to go back to my
- 40:01Speaker 1: roots today and and and give my donation to the
- 40:05Speaker 1: Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership, where I'm a proud board member.
- 40:10Speaker 1: And again, um, just look no further than one of
- 40:13Speaker 1: their rallying cries, which is guaranteeing Americans quality places the
- 40:19Speaker 1: hunting fish. It's a good tagline, camera focus. Thank you
- 40:24Speaker 1: for joining me. I was fun having You're gonna have
- 40:26Speaker 1: to have you back when NA season twelve comes out.
- 40:29Speaker 1: That's it for this episode of Meat Eater Trivia. Join
- 40:31Speaker 1: us next time for more of the only game show
- 40:33Speaker 1: where conservation always wins.
