Transcript
- 0:59Good morning. Welcome to Voices of Life, the
- 1:02official podcast of the Church of Life. I'm Pastor
- 1:06David, and I'm honored to walk with you into
- 1:08week three of our 12 -week journey, Living with
- 1:12Purpose, a God -Centered Life. This week, we're
- 1:18stepping into something deeply personal, deeply
- 1:21transformative. We're going to be healing the
- 1:24heart and renewing the mind. If week one helped
- 1:29you understand who you are, and week two helped
- 1:33you build the rhythms that anchor you, week three
- 1:37will help you heal the places inside you that
- 1:41have been wounded, burdened, and shaped by lies.
- 1:48So wherever you are, settling into a quiet moment,
- 1:51driving, walking, or listening at home, take
- 1:54a slow breath. Let your heart open. Let your
- 1:59mind soften. And let God meet you there. Every
- 2:06person carries wounds. Some are very obvious.
- 2:11Some are hidden and we keep to ourselves. Some
- 2:16are very fresh. And some have been carried for
- 2:19decades. But every wound shapes the way you see
- 2:24yourself. The way you see others. And the way
- 2:29you see God. Unhealed wounds become filters.
- 2:36They distort identity. They distort our worth.
- 2:41They distort our calling. Unhealed wounds become
- 2:46stories. Stories you tell yourself about who
- 2:50you are and who you are not. Stories like, I'm
- 2:56not enough. I'm too much. I'm unlovable. I'm
- 3:04unwanted. I'm alone. I must be broken. I'm beyond
- 3:13repair. But these stories are not the truth.
- 3:17They are the echoes of unhealed places. And God
- 3:23does not want you to live your life from your
- 3:26wounds. He wants you to live from his healing.
- 3:32Healing is not a sign of weakness. Healing is
- 3:36a sign of courage. Healing is a sign of letting
- 3:42God rewrite the past with his presence. Healing
- 3:47is not forgetting the past. Healing is not pretending
- 3:52you're fine. Healing is letting God make you
- 3:57whole. The heart is the center of your emotional
- 4:02and spiritual life. It is where you feel, where
- 4:08you hope, you fear, where you trust, where you
- 4:16love, and where you hurt. Scripture says, guard
- 4:25your heart for everything you do flows from it.
- 4:29Everything, your decisions, your relationships,
- 4:34your reactions, your patterns, your habits, your
- 4:40faith. When the heart is wounded, life becomes
- 4:45heavy. You become guarded. You become anxious.
- 4:51You become reactive, distant, even discouraged.
- 4:59When the heart is healed, life becomes whole.
- 5:04You become open, steady, compassionate. You become
- 5:11courageous and free. Healing the heart is not
- 5:17optional. It is essential. If the heart is where
- 5:23wounds live, the mind is where lies grow. Lies
- 5:29about God, lies about yourself, lies about your
- 5:34worth, lies about your future. The enemy cannot
- 5:41take your identity, but he can attack your perception
- 5:45of your identity. He whispers lies until they
- 5:50feel like truth. He repeats lies until they feel
- 5:55familiar. He plants lies until they feel permanent.
- 6:03But scripture says, be transformed by the renewing
- 6:08of your mind. Transformation begins in the mind.
- 6:15Renewal begins with truth. And healing begins
- 6:21with replacing the lies you've believed with
- 6:24the truth God speaks. This week we're going to
- 6:30walk slowly and intentionally through the places
- 6:33where your heart needs healing and your mind
- 6:36needs renewal. We'll explore emotional wounds,
- 6:41spiritual wounds, mental strongholds. The lies
- 6:46that shape your story. The truth that sets you
- 6:50free. The practices that bring healing. And the
- 6:55presence of God that restores the soul. This
- 7:00is not a week of pressure. This is a week of
- 7:03invitation. An invitation to let God heal what
- 7:08has been hurting. An invitation to let God renew.
- 7:14what has been heavy. An invitation to step into
- 7:20freedom you may not have known was possible.
- 7:39Every person carries emotional wounds. Moments
- 7:44that have shaped us in ways we didn't fully understand.
- 7:49Some wounds come from childhood. Others, relationships.
- 7:55From betrayals. From just silence. For some words
- 8:04spoken in anger. Some from love withheld when
- 8:10we needed it the most. Emotional wounds don't
- 8:14disappear with time. They bury themselves in
- 8:19the heart very deeply. They show up in how we
- 8:23react, in how we trust, how we love, and how
- 8:27we protect ourselves. And most of all, how we
- 8:30see God. Some wounds make us guarded. Some make
- 8:37us clingy and dependent. Some make us distant.
- 8:44Some make us the perfectionist. Some make us
- 8:49fearful. Others make us numb. But here's the
- 8:54truth. God does not expose wounds to shame you.
- 8:59He exposes wounds to heal you. Healing begins
- 9:03when you stop pretending you're not hurting.
- 9:08Healing begins when you let God touch the places
- 9:11you've been avoiding. And healing begins when
- 9:16you allow yourself to feel again. Some of the
- 9:23deepest wounds are spiritual wounds. Wounds caused
- 9:27by people who claimed to speak for God, but did
- 9:31not reflect his heart. Wounds from churches that
- 9:35judged instead of welcomed. Wounds from leaders
- 9:40who controlled instead of shepherded. Wounds
- 9:45from teachings that shamed instead of healed.
- 9:50And wounds from moments when you cried out to
- 9:53God and felt like he was silent. Spiritual wounds
- 9:59can distort your view of God. They can make you
- 10:02afraid to trust him. They can make you afraid
- 10:05to pray, to hope. They can make you vulnerable.
- 10:09But hear this very clearly. God is not the one.
- 10:13Who wounded you? God is the one who wants to
- 10:17heal you. God is the voice that restores you.
- 10:24God is not the voice that shamed you. And God
- 10:28is not the presence that abandoned you. He is
- 10:31the presence that holds you. God is not the weight
- 10:36that crushed you. He is the strength that lifts
- 10:39you. A stronghold is a pattern of thinking that
- 10:47feels true, even when it isn't. Strongholds form
- 10:52when a lie gets repeated so many times that it
- 10:57becomes familiar. Lies like, I'll always be this
- 11:02way. I'll never change. I'm too damaged. I'm
- 11:08too weak. I'm too far gone. God is disappointed
- 11:12in me. Nothing good lasts. People always leaves.
- 11:22Strongholds don't just affect your thoughts.
- 11:24They affect your emotions. They affect your relationships,
- 11:29decision making, your faith. But scripture says
- 11:34we take captive every thought and make it obedient
- 11:40to Christ. That means you don't have to believe
- 11:44every thought you think. You don't have to accept
- 11:48every story your mind tells you. You don't have
- 11:51to live under the weight of lies. You can replace
- 11:56lies with truth. You can replace fear with faith.
- 12:00You can replace shame with grace. And you can
- 12:05replace despair with hope. Healing is something
- 12:13you allow. Healing happens when you stop running
- 12:18from the pain and start running to God. Healing
- 12:22happens when you stop hiding and start opening.
- 12:26Healing happens when you stop pretending and
- 12:29start surrendering. God heals gently. God heals
- 12:34patiently. God heals deeply. God heals completely.
- 12:40He heals through his presence, his word. He heals
- 12:46through community, through time. He heals through
- 12:50truth and through love. And he heals because
- 12:55he loves you. Healing is really instant. It is
- 13:10usual. A gentle layered process. A journey. God
- 13:17walks you through step by step. God heals the
- 13:21heart the way a gardener tends to the garden.
- 13:24He removes what harms. He nurtures what's growing.
- 13:28He protects what is fragile. He waters what is
- 13:33dry. He prunes what is overgrown. He plants.
- 13:39what's missing. Healing is not a moment. Healing
- 13:45is a relationship. God heals you through his
- 13:48presence, through his truth, love, through his
- 13:51people, through his spirit. And he heals you
- 13:55in ways that are kind, patient, and deeply personal.
- 14:04Healing begins when you bring the wound into
- 14:07the light. Not to shame it. Not to relive it.
- 14:12Not to obsess over it. But to acknowledge it.
- 14:17You cannot heal what you refuse to name. You
- 14:22cannot heal what you keep hidden. You cannot
- 14:26heal what you pretend doesn't hurt. Bringing
- 14:29a wound into the light is not weakness. It is
- 14:34the courage to face it. It is the strength. And
- 14:38it's the first step toward freedom. Say to God,
- 14:44Lord, here is the place that hurts. That simple
- 14:49prayer opens the door to healing. Every wound
- 14:58carries a lie. A lie about you, about others.
- 15:01A lie about God. The wound says, you're alone.
- 15:07that you're unworthy, unlovable, that you've
- 15:11been forgotten, or you're broken, or you're just
- 15:15too much, or maybe you're not enough. But God
- 15:21speaks a different word. He says, you are mine.
- 15:27You are loved. You are chosen. You are seen.
- 15:34You are held. You are valued. And you are made
- 15:41new. Healing happens when God's truth replaces
- 15:45the lie. It doesn't happen instantly. It's not
- 15:49a forceful act. It's gentle. It's consistent.
- 15:56It's faithfully. Truth is what sets you free.
- 16:04I'm sure you've heard that before. Renewing the
- 16:11mind is not about positive thinking. It is about
- 16:14truthful thinking. It is about replacing old
- 16:18patterns with new ones. It is about letting God
- 16:22reshape the way you think so you can reshape
- 16:25the way you live. Renewal happens when you pause
- 16:31and you ask, is this thought true? Is this thought
- 16:39from God? Is this thought leading me toward peace
- 16:44or toward fear? Renewal happens when you choose
- 16:51to meditate on Scripture instead of anxiety.
- 16:55Renewal happens when you choose to speak truth
- 16:58instead of shame. Renewal happens when you choose
- 17:04to align your thoughts with God's thoughts. Renewal
- 17:10is a daily rhythm, a slow rhythm, a steady rhythm,
- 17:16a transformative rhythm I want to guide you through
- 17:39a gentle prayerful practice that opens the heart.
- 17:45And when you open your heart, you open it to
- 17:50allow God to heal. Find a quiet posture. Let
- 17:59your shoulders relax. Let your breathing slow.
- 18:03Let your heart soften. Say quietly, Lord, show
- 18:11me the place that needs healing. Don't force
- 18:16anything. Don't search. Don't analyze. Just let
- 18:21God bring to your mind a moment, a memory, a
- 18:29feeling, a wound. It may be something recent.
- 18:35It may be something old. It may be something
- 18:37you haven't thought about in years. Whatever
- 18:42rises, don't judge it. Don't push it away. Simply
- 18:48acknowledge it in God's presence. Say, Lord,
- 18:53here it is. Here is the place that hurts. This
- 19:00is where healing begins. Every wound carries
- 19:06a lie. A lie about you. A lie about others. A
- 19:10lie about God. Ask gently. Lord, what lie did
- 19:17this wound teach me to believe? Let the answer
- 19:21rise slowly. Maybe the lie was, I'm alone. I'm
- 19:28unworthy or unlovable. I'm not safe. I'm not
- 19:32enough. I'm too much. I'm forgotten. I'm broken.
- 19:38Whatever the lie is, don't fear it. Don't hide
- 19:43from it. Bring it into the light. Once there,
- 19:50say, Lord, this is the lie I believe for so long.
- 19:56Naming the lie breaks its power. And then ask,
- 20:03Lord, what is your truth about me? And let his
- 20:09truth rise gently. Maybe he says, you're mine,
- 20:17you're loved, you're the chosen, you're safe,
- 20:20you are seen, you are held, you are enough, you
- 20:24are made new. You're valued. Let his truth speak
- 20:32louder than the lie. Let his truth settle deeper
- 20:37than the wound. Let his truth become the foundation
- 20:44you stand on. Say, Lord, I receive your truth.
- 20:55Once you've received it, this is how the mind
- 20:58is renewed. Let us close week three with a prayer
- 21:11for your heart and for your mind. Heavenly Father,
- 21:17thank you for meeting us in the deep places today.
- 21:23Thank you for shining light on the wounds we
- 21:27carry. Thank you for speaking truth into the
- 21:33lies we believed. Thank you. for beginning a
- 21:38work of healing and renewal. Lord, heal the broken
- 21:44places. Restore the weary places. Strengthen
- 21:51and fortify the fragile places. Renew the discouraged
- 21:56places. Lift the heavy places. Lift that burden.
- 22:02Let your truth take root in every heart. Let
- 22:07your peace guard every mind. Let your presence
- 22:11restore every soul. Teach us to walk in healing.
- 22:17Teach us to walk in truth. Teach us to walk in
- 22:23freedom. We give you our word. We give you our
- 22:28wounds. We give you our thoughts, our stories.
- 22:32We give you our lives. Do in us what only you
- 22:38can do. In Jesus' name, amen. Tomorrow, we'll
- 22:46be having a special Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
- 22:50podcast. I hope you will join us for that as
- 22:54we kind of explore the life and effect that Dr.
- 22:58Martin Luther King had on the United States,
- 23:03but more importantly, on the world. Thank you
- 23:07for joining us today on Voices of Life. I'm Pastor
- 23:11David, and it has been an honor to walk with
- 23:14you through week three. Next Sunday, we'll step
- 23:18into an incredibly important week, the building
- 23:21a life of emotional and spiritual resilience.
- 23:26Until then, walk gently, walk honestly, walk
- 23:32with God, and may His healing and truth Go with
- 23:36you.
