- 0:00SPEAKER_00: You're listening to She Said It Out Loud, where real women share real stories without sugarcoating a theme.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, Emma Young, and I'll bring you on filtered conversations with ambitious women who faced challenges, made bold moves, and learned a lot along the way.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: You'll get real takeaways, honest lessons, stories that you're gonna relate to.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: Righto, let's get started.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: Hey there and welcome to the podcast.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: I'm your host, Emma Young, and this is She Said It Out Loud.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: Today, I am so incredibly lucky because this episode is sponsored by Fourfold Cafe in Broome.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: It used to be the Cable Beach General Store for those people that live in Broome, but for anybody that doesn't, Fourfold is the newest and hippest place to be.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: Trust me.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: I go down there on the weekends, Saturdays in particular, I get there quite early, and they do incredible cold brew.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: Head on down there, Fourfold down in Cable Beach.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: They are open seven days a week.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: Alrighty, on to today's episode.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: My guest is Sean Gower.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: Her name has been dropped so many times for me to interview, and I finally reached out to her, sent her a little DM, and said, Hey, I need you to come on the podcast.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: Now not only is she fun and our conversation is quite lighthearted, we have a great chat about how she's gone from being a barista at Short Street Cafe here in Broome to becoming a children's illustrator and author.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: She has a book, it's a colouring in book called Snapper, The Saltwater Crocodile, and she sold out her first edition.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: She then has released a second lot.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: You can head to her website to see the other things that she's got on offer, but our conversation dives into what it takes for her to become an artist, follow her dreams and her passions to finally quit being a barista and take on the role of being a full-time artist.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: Here is our conversation.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the podcast, Sean.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: I have had your name dropped that many times, all throughout season one.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: Everyone's like, you have to get her on.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: Obviously, Demi was like, you know, Sean, she's just out there.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: Obviously, Ash has spoken about you for several years now.
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: I am pumped to finally get you on.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: Ah, that's so cute.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: Uh was Sendman here to be interviewing.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: So welcome to the podcast.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: Thanks for having me.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: It's awesome to be here.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: Great.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: Not everybody knows who Sean is.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: So can you tell my listeners who are listening to today's episode who you are, a little bit about yourself?
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: Cool we.
- 2:25SPEAKER_01: I think most people in town will know me from Short Street.
- 2:29SPEAKER_01: I worked there from the get-go for about four years.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: And then I kind of decided I don't want to make coffees for people anymore.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: Like everyone is being so rude.
- 2:39SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, fair enough.
- 2:41SPEAKER_01: And stuff like that.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: And I was just sick of waking up at five o'clock every morning and I was like, gonna call it.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:47SPEAKER_01: And then I was like, I'm just gonna sit down and draw and see what happens.
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: Tell me more about that because not everybody's gonna know that this is where you've gotten to.
- 2:55SPEAKER_01: Yes, true.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: I feel like I've always been pretty artsy.
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: Um my mum is very artsy.
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: Um she used to always, we used to always carry around like little pencils and stuff like that, and when we would go out and stuff, and I would just sit there in the corner and draw.
- 3:07SPEAKER_01: And I guess it's just like the only thing, even like through high school and stuff that I ever actually enjoyed doing.
- 3:12SPEAKER_01: Was drawing.
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: Was drawing.
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: Did you do art like as a subject?
- 3:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, did visual art.
- 3:16SPEAKER_01: Always loved doing the practical stuff, but the theory, no, not good.
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: I don't know anybody actually that probably enjoys it.
- 3:25SPEAKER_01: It's ridiculous.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: But maybe it's like, I guess those people that care about, you know, Kandinsky and all those people from like back in the day.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, see, I'm more like look at a picture, it makes you happy, that's all good, that's all you need.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: And the best thing about art though is that it is subjective.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: Oh, hundreds of.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: So you can be like, this is you can draw whatever stick drawing that looks plain to somebody else, and you're like, this is fantastic artistic genius.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: My style.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: My style.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: Now, what actually made you start on this journey as an artist though?
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: Because I get that you said that you were doing it when you're a kid, but is this a skill that's just gotten better the more you've done it?
- 4:01SPEAKER_01: I've definitely noticed how much better I've gotten at it since I've been doing it like a bit more full time.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: Just looking at some of the works that I did like at the start of the year, when I started doing it a bit more seriously to now, I'm literally like, wow, look at that, hey?
- 4:15SPEAKER_01: Practice makes perfect.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: Isn't that good?
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: And so are you more like drawing like textures or watercolors or I I've kind of moved through the mediums a little bit.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: I definitely used to be, I used to like doing stuff in Bayro, in Blue Bayro.
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: I did like a whole fish series in Blue Bayro, and then I kind of moved into watercolours and stuff like that, and now I'm heavy on the gouache.
- 4:37SPEAKER_01: Oh god, that sounds fancy.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: Gouache, it sounds like gouache sort of.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: I don't even know what I'm using to say shopping gouache.
- 4:43SPEAKER_01: It's kind of like a happy medium between watercolour and acrylic.
- 4:46SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 4:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah, cool.
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: So super easy to use.
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: Sounds fancy.
- 4:50SPEAKER_01: Yep, super bright colours, which is I'm all about it.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: I do like the bright colours.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: This is another thing that I noticed recently.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: It just popped up on my feed, and I'm like, who has done this super cutesy drawing of this croc?
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: I mean, I like crocs, but you've recently drawn this book.
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: It's like your first ever book that you've published.
- 5:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: It's called Snapper the Saltwater Croc, and it's a colouring in book.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: I've seen them all sorts of places.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: I know that you're selling them at the Croc Park, and then they sold out, but where else have you been selling them?
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: So yeah, we've got heaps at the Croc Park.
- 5:20SPEAKER_01: They are also at Kimberly Bookshop.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 5:23SPEAKER_01: They're also at Redville, and they are also at Broom Beach Co.
- 5:28SPEAKER_01: They've they've stopped some as well.
- 5:29SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: Do you have them at Fourfold yet?
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: Oh, I did have them at Fourfold.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: I think Ash has sold out though, so I need to go top her up.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: Okay, well, this episode is sponsored by Fourfold.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: So I would have said that at the start.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: Yes, I mean she's gonna have to get some.
- 5:43SPEAKER_01: She's done such a good job there.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: She has done such a good job.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: She has.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: Is this a one-soft deal?
- 5:49SPEAKER_00: I mean, anybody that's listening, go and suss this out, especially teachers out there, you're gonna love this because the quality of your designs, they're they seem like they're easy for kids to come in.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: Yep, that's the idea.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: But not only that, it looks cutesy and realistic at the same time.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: If that if there's a technical term, somebody send me a message.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: But cutesy and real realistic at the same time.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: I'm making that up.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: Is there gonna be something else in the future, do you think?
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: I have a few things planned.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: I hearing it first.
- 6:21SPEAKER_01: I hopefully have got something lined up with the Red Sun camels for next season.
- 6:25SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 6:25SPEAKER_01: And then I've got a whole other idea in my mind for like a mindful colouring in, a bit more like adult-based, that I was hoping to link up with a pearling company.
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: Ooh.
- 6:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, big dogs.
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: The big dogs.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: The big dogs.
- 6:41SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: But I've sent out a few emails, haven't heard much.
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: But I'll keep trying.
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: That's what you can do.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: That's all you can do, is just keep going.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: Love it.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: I love that attitude.
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: But that's just gonna segue nicely into my next question because I do want to make mention that I watched one of your recent videos that you posted on your Instagram profile.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: And now you spoke about taking on feedback regarding the type of paper that you used in the very first edition of your colouring book.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: And that people had made comments about the paper not being like a thick enough GSM, that's a technical term.
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: But you talked about you changed it in a second edition.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: Can I say my point of where I'm going with this is it's not always easy to take on feedback.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: But you seem like you just literally ran with it, you went with the feedback, and you've made a better version this second time around on the second print.
- 7:29SPEAKER_00: Has this always been in your nature?
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 7:34SPEAKER_01: I think I take on feedback quite well.
- 7:36SPEAKER_01: I think also working in hospitality, you kind of start becoming a little bit numb to it, maybe.
- 7:41SPEAKER_01: You get like a lot of a lot of shitty people out there that just want to have a go at you because their coffee's not exactly how they wanted it, and you just kind of learn to like numb it out.
- 7:50SPEAKER_01: But like when it comes to something that I'm passionate about and that I want like my names written all over it, like I want it to be the best that it can be.
- 7:57SPEAKER_01: And I guess you have to do those small batches to figure that out, right?
- 8:01SPEAKER_01: Definitely.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: Because not everybody can take feedback.
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: I love getting feedback.
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: I like it when people make comments and say something like, Jesus Emma, you know, that episode you went off on a major tangent or a major rant.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: And I do do that, I get it.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: However, you know, all feedback in some form, really, whether it's positive or negative, it's up to you whether you choose to take it on and do something with it to make it your life better.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: Or you can become bitter and just be like, you know what?
- 8:28SPEAKER_01: I also feel like it's just nicer just to take it on, you know.
- 8:31SPEAKER_01: Like there's no point in getting your walls built up over something that you could like it's paper, like get over it.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: Also, I mean, obviously, people know that I live on Instagram.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: It's the main platform that I practically just I was gonna say, I'm in bed with Instagram.
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: That's teaching now.
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, round out of ten.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: I'm not in bed with Instagram.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: No, look, I love it.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: I am addicted to it.
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: But I was looking actually on your profile again, and you mentioned I love this story post.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: You did like a carousel of different images, and you spoke about during your primary school days, you were flagged as potentially having learning delays.
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: Yes, yes, yes, yes.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: And then in high school you weren't the greatest at maths, you just didn't get it.
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: But now you're in this phase of life where you know you're wholeheartedly embracing, just chasing your passions and dreams, obviously, of being an established or published author.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: What would you say to anyone that's listening, whether if they're in their late teens or early 20s, or you know what?
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: Even in their 50s, if they're going through like a transition in their life, what would you say to them about kind of blocking out that noise and chasing your dreams?
- 9:39SPEAKER_01: So that was funny.
- 9:40SPEAKER_01: I remember when my mum pulled out the note that the principal had written flagging me as a kid who might have potential learning disabilities.
- 9:49SPEAKER_01: Um, just because I scored quite badly and like, you know, you have to do all the naplan and all that kind of stuff.
- 9:53SPEAKER_01: Scored quite badly in that.
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: And then it just like my mum was active on it, and we went and saw like all these therapists and blah blah blah blah blah.
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: So yeah, we went and saw all the like therapists and stuff.
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: It came back that obviously you didn't have a learning delay.
- 10:05SPEAKER_01: There's usually something that doesn't click right up there, but I feel like everyone's like that, right?
- 10:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 10:10SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 10:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 10:11SPEAKER_00: And look, it it sounds like you're very ambitious and that you can't really, you know, stay still.
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, support no.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: So that's you know, I know lots of chicks, people that make comment about all these women that are being diagnosed with ADHD.
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: They are.
- 10:25SPEAKER_00: There probably is a lot of women out there that just haven't done the tests, that haven't, you know, bothered to I guess it's fairly it takes a long time to get diagnosed.
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: You don't just rock up and go, this is what I think, and then you say, Yeah, cool.
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: But for you though, I mean, I feel like your story is a great example where you could have sat back and just gone, oh well, yeah, this is too hard.
- 10:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, too hard basket.
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: But here you are now being a published author.
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: And I've done so many random things as well.
- 10:49SPEAKER_01: I was a PT back in Perth before I moved up to Broome.
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: Then I obviously did the whole hospitality thing for a while.
- 10:55SPEAKER_01: I saw in one of your photos, did you graduate from somewhere?
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I've got a bachelor's degree in nutrition.
- 11:00SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 11:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I've done lots of random things, but yeah, I just feel like it just always comes back to just sitting down and just drawing.
- 11:11SPEAKER_01: Like I just love it so much.
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: And so now you're doing that full-time?
- 11:14SPEAKER_01: Pretty much, yeah.
- 11:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, also working at Sunroom for Ebony.
- 11:16SPEAKER_01: Oh, I've got a couple days a week, which is fun, which is fun.
- 11:19SPEAKER_01: Gets me out of the house a little bit.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: She's great.
- 11:21SPEAKER_01: She's so great.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: She'll get on the podcast one day.
- 11:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, for sure.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: I have asked her because she's a busy, busy lady.
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: Don't have to tell me twice.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 11:29SPEAKER_01: So what do you do there then?
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: Um, I just work in the store.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: In the in the little front store there.
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: So it's fun.
- 11:35SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 11:35SPEAKER_01: Just kind of hang out for a few hours and then go home to do more drawing.
- 11:40SPEAKER_01: You're living the dream.
- 11:41SPEAKER_01: I know, it sounds like it, right?
- 11:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:43SPEAKER_01: And I've done pretty well for myself up here, haven't I?
- 11:45SPEAKER_00: Oh my gosh.
- 11:46SPEAKER_00: Okay, so now you've got some cool products.
- 11:48SPEAKER_00: I want people to take time when they're listening to this.
- 11:50SPEAKER_00: Obviously, don't do it while you're driving or whether if you're at work and or you know, if you're going on a walk, you're not going to be able to do it.
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: But make sure you take the time to look up.
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: I'm going to put it in the show notes, Sean's Insta handle where you can see what she gets up to.
- 12:04SPEAKER_00: Because you've got cool products.
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: You got stickers, they're pretty cool.
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: Drawings, the I mean t-shirts that have cool designs on them.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: I want to know what else is in the pipeline.
- 12:15SPEAKER_01: Have you got something else that's up your sleeve?
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: Well, I feel like I've been pretty hyper-focused on colouring in books at the moment.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: Also, my piece for Shinju that I've been doing.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: I don't really know.
- 12:26SPEAKER_01: Hey, probably I need to find something that's a bit more um, a bit more of a constant income.
- 12:31SPEAKER_01: So like prints or like events or something like that.
- 12:35SPEAKER_01: So who knows?
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: Maybe there'll be be a few fun little paint and sip nights in there or something.
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, people love those.
- 12:41SPEAKER_00: People love those.
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they do.
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: Holy cow.
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 12:45SPEAKER_00: Question then.
- 12:45SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: If you weren't an artist, is there something else that you would be doing?
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: I honestly don't know.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: I loved being a PT down in Perth.
- 12:54SPEAKER_01: I loved doing, we did I did like a lot of boxing classes and stuff like that.
- 12:58SPEAKER_01: Props to all the personal trainers out there because it's hard work.
- 13:01SPEAKER_01: It is hard work.
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: Like Demi had on a few weeks ago.
- 13:04SPEAKER_01: I don't know how she does it.
- 13:05SPEAKER_01: I get like flashbacks of early mornings and late nights and all that kind of stuff.
- 13:09SPEAKER_01: Oh god, I hate early.
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: I'm just not a morning girl.
- 13:12SPEAKER_00: I I usually get up at like 10 past six.
- 13:15SPEAKER_00: Like I am not getting up at four o'clock to then get somewhere by 4:30 or 5 because I guess because of my job, you know, it requires a lot of driving.
- 13:25SPEAKER_00: I just I just need to be full focused.
- 13:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 13:27SPEAKER_00: You know, I get a haven coffee, that's usually where it goes.
- 13:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, trader.
- 13:31SPEAKER_00: I know, but listen, they make the best ice long black.
- 13:34SPEAKER_00: And in saying that, I've been going to fourfold to get their cold brew.
- 13:37SPEAKER_00: That's my new thing.
- 13:38SPEAKER_00: Yum, cold brew is.
- 13:39SPEAKER_00: We share the love.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: We say the haven someday is fourfold the others.
- 13:42SPEAKER_00: You can't go wrong.
- 13:43SPEAKER_00: You can't.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: Again, I haven't really gone short street because I've either just gone haven.
- 13:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, fair.
- 13:49SPEAKER_00: Been a bit of rivalry.
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: Well, I know, but this is ice long black, and look, I'm really meant to be cutting back.
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: I've been doing it by Jen.
- 13:55SPEAKER_00: Oh I know, I know.
- 13:56SPEAKER_00: You can't cut back on things that you love.
- 13:58SPEAKER_00: Well, I keep telling myself this ice long black gets me through the day.
- 14:02SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 14:02SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 14:03SPEAKER_00: That's very important.
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: Do you get through the day?
- 14:05SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 14:06SPEAKER_00: Is there is there any stories that you want to tell me?
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: Is there anything that's what's happening?
- 14:11SPEAKER_00: What's going on?
- 14:12SPEAKER_00: Like in life now.
- 14:13SPEAKER_01: In life now, I feel like 2026 has been a pretty good year for me.
- 14:18SPEAKER_01: I got engaged at the start of the year.
- 14:20SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, congratulations on that.
- 14:22SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 14:23SPEAKER_01: Did you know that you were gonna get engaged too?
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: I had no idea.
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: Okay, those are the best.
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: I had no idea at all.
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: To the point where like I had to like run away from him and like just sit down for a second and be like, what's going on?
- 14:33SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: I was like, yeah, fully taken by surprise, but so so so stoked.
- 14:38SPEAKER_01: Like, love him, obviously, and his family are amazing.
- 14:41SPEAKER_01: They're so beautiful.
- 14:43SPEAKER_01: I just got back from Fiji.
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: That was a vibe.
- 14:45SPEAKER_01: What were we doing in Fiji?
- 14:46SPEAKER_01: Family holiday?
- 14:47SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: Because his family's so great.
- 14:50SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 14:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 14:51SPEAKER_01: Um, so that was fun.
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: Uh, one of my best friends has just had a baby, um, and my brother's just had a baby.
- 14:57SPEAKER_01: 20s 26 has been a good year so far.
- 14:59SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 15:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:00SPEAKER_01: We like, yeah.
- 15:01SPEAKER_00: I mean, yeah, Jesus.
- 15:02SPEAKER_00: It's we're over we're over the halfway point now.
- 15:05SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: And it's just It's fast.
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: Well, this year's gone incredibly quick.
- 15:10SPEAKER_00: So, so fast.
- 15:10SPEAKER_00: Do you know a lot of people in town?
- 15:13SPEAKER_00: Is this from the cafe?
- 15:14SPEAKER_01: I yeah, I think it's mostly from the cafe.
- 15:17SPEAKER_01: 100%.
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: I feel like when Short Street opened, which would have been like what four years ago.
- 15:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think so at least.
- 15:23SPEAKER_01: I feel like there wasn't really much coffee stuff happening in Broome at that time, maybe.
- 15:28SPEAKER_01: And I feel like everyone kind of flooded to Short Street, and yeah, I just yeah, I just got to know everyone.
- 15:33SPEAKER_01: I feel like I was drawing pictures on people's cups in wet season when it was a bit quieter, and people loved it.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: Everyone was like, oh my god, this girl.
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: And I was just drawing like fish on their on their coffee cup, or like a little a little message saying, Have the best day.
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: Everyone was like, Oh my god.
- 15:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I remember seeing um Ash did a post on one of her stories.
- 15:55SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 15:55SPEAKER_00: And it said, like, have a great day, Ash, or something like that.
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: But I'm like, who's got the time to write such a nice message, even though it's just a short message?
- 16:02SPEAKER_00: So short.
- 16:03SPEAKER_00: And like everyone loves it.
- 16:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I was like, that's great customer service.
- 16:06SPEAKER_01: I loved making people's day like that though.
- 16:09SPEAKER_01: Like it's normally in your ritual, I guess you go to the coffee, go go to the coffee shop, get the coffee, seeing a nice message like that at the start of your day would be so nice.
- 16:20SPEAKER_00: It is.
- 16:21SPEAKER_00: I think it's a great, yeah, it's a great start to the day.
- 16:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, for sure.
- 16:24SPEAKER_00: Because not that many people would probably take the time to do that.
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: And like it takes like one second.
- 16:28SPEAKER_00: Hospitality, I need to say, good on you.
- 16:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's a lot of because I am that person that's bussy as when it comes to coffee.
- 16:36SPEAKER_00: Oh, good.
- 16:37SPEAKER_00: And I'll either be sucking like, damn, this is burnt, damn, this is bitter.
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: To be fair, there's nothing worse than spending seven to eight dollars on a coffee, and it's yeah.
- 16:47SPEAKER_01: Is that the technical term?
- 16:49SPEAKER_01: That's actually the technical term.
- 16:50SPEAKER_00: I love that.
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: I love that.
- 16:51SPEAKER_01: So, what do you like to do for fun?
- 16:53SPEAKER_01: For fun.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: Ma, I guess, like most people in Broom, I love fishing camping outdoorsy stuff.
- 16:58SPEAKER_01: Do you?
- 16:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:00SPEAKER_00: Everyone I've been interviewing lately freaking loves.
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: And you don't like it, do you?
- 17:04SPEAKER_00: You're a freak.
- 17:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:05SPEAKER_00: I know, I know.
- 17:06SPEAKER_00: Hey, to be fair, I've been going to the beach.
- 17:09SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 17:10SPEAKER_00: Like the last I think I'm on the this is my third week just weekend just gone.
- 17:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 17:14SPEAKER_00: And I think it's because I've had I had well, I did have a wedding for two of those weekends.
- 17:20SPEAKER_00: But on the other day that I had free, I was like, I'm just gonna go to the beach.
- 17:24SPEAKER_00: I mean, I'm not gonna go super tanning because I'm in my I don't want to say mid 40s, and still in my early 40s until next year.
- 17:32SPEAKER_00: Nobody wants age spots and skin cancer.
- 17:34SPEAKER_00: Oh, well, I mean the skin cancer part sucks.
- 17:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, or God, yeah.
- 17:37SPEAKER_00: But I think it's really restful, and I'm really trying my hardest to be more active in actually trying to chill.
- 17:44SPEAKER_00: Yes, that's good.
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, there's a lady that does yoga.
- 17:47SPEAKER_00: I think her name's Carly.
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, she Carly, if this is you, Carly, listening, send me a message.
- 17:53SPEAKER_00: I'm sure her name is Carly.
- 17:55SPEAKER_00: But she won my Emma the Celebrant like prize pack a couple of years ago at the Women's Leadership Forum, like to do with the chamber.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: And she sent me a lovely message and she said, Oh, I can't believe I won this package.
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: I really want to give you like a free yoga session.
- 18:10SPEAKER_00: And I was like, Oh, that's nice.
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: So I went to the blue border and I pre-warned her I'm probably gonna have about 35 minutes in me because it was an hour-long class.
- 18:20SPEAKER_00: And I was like, this is gonna I get itchy, I get frustrated, I get really like I start to stress.
- 18:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm like, I could be doing doing things right now.
- 18:30SPEAKER_00: Why am I trying to chill or why am I trying to stretch my body when I could be doing this, this, this, it's such a bad thing.
- 18:36SPEAKER_00: It's great.
- 18:36SPEAKER_01: Really you've got to learn how to flick that off, don't you?
- 18:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I saw her in Kmart, like probably a month ago now, and she was like, Oh my god, I listened to any episodes and about like going to, you know, trying to chill.
- 18:48SPEAKER_00: And I said to her, I'm going to the beach.
- 18:49SPEAKER_00: I was there to try and yeah.
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: I said, Oh, I need to go and get some bathers actually because don't have any.
- 18:55SPEAKER_00: Well, I don't.
- 18:56SPEAKER_00: Back in my day, I used to just go down the nudie beach.
- 18:58SPEAKER_00: I can't really do that anymore.
- 18:59SPEAKER_00: I can't just get naked.
- 19:00SPEAKER_00: Damn it.
- 19:01SPEAKER_00: I know that.
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: Bloody hell.
- 19:03SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 19:04SPEAKER_00: But yeah, God, okay.
- 19:05SPEAKER_00: Well, yeah, I need to get better at chilling.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: You should.
- 19:09SPEAKER_01: Or like also the gym, love it.
- 19:11SPEAKER_01: Love it so so much.
- 19:12SPEAKER_01: Man, I don't love it either.
- 19:14SPEAKER_00: I do keep making jokes about I'm allergic to exercise.
- 19:16SPEAKER_00: I do want to get rid of my guts.
- 19:18SPEAKER_00: But then in saying that, I've got a bad, bad relationship with whiskey, burgerings, and twirls.
- 19:23SPEAKER_00: Whiskey?
- 19:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, whiskey, love it.
- 19:25SPEAKER_00: Interesting choice.
- 19:26SPEAKER_00: I know poison.
- 19:27SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 19:27SPEAKER_00: I used to be red wine, but if I I drink red wine, then I'm just gonna keep eating cheese and yeah, true.
- 19:33SPEAKER_00: They do come hand in hand.
- 19:34SPEAKER_00: As soon as I watch Peaky Blinders, I'm practically Peaky Blinders, and I know that's old, it's an old series, but I just smashed it.
- 19:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I just watched it back to back to back, and then they were drinking whiskey, and I'm like, now I'm gonna be whiskey.
- 19:46SPEAKER_00: Oh no.
- 19:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm just love it.
- 19:48SPEAKER_00: Just a little tiny bit of water, and I'm half man.
- 19:51SPEAKER_00: Oh, half woman.
- 19:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, just half man.
- 19:56SPEAKER_00: Oh, I'm going off change again.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: Okay, listen, you've got rapid fires right now.
- 20:01SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah, I'm ready.
- 20:02SPEAKER_00: Okay, first one for you.
- 20:03SPEAKER_00: Do you have a female celebrity who you admire?
- 20:06SPEAKER_00: I have so many.
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 20:08SPEAKER_01: Gimme a couple, that's okay.
- 20:10SPEAKER_01: There is an artist that I follow on Instagram.
- 20:12SPEAKER_01: Her name is Bella McGoldrick.
- 20:14SPEAKER_01: She's amazing.
- 20:14SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: Um, I also love Sabrina Carl Pendine, Ariana Grande.
- 20:17SPEAKER_00: Oh, in the yes.
- 20:19SPEAKER_00: When is she gonna bring?

- 20:30SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's cool.
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: What makes you like Sabrina so much?
- 20:33SPEAKER_01: She's hot.
- 20:34SPEAKER_00: Oh yeah.
- 20:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, she is hot.

- 20:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you did.
- 20:45SPEAKER_00: Um, okay.
- 20:47SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 20:47SPEAKER_00: Okay, now what's something that you're truly grateful for?
- 20:49SPEAKER_01: Um, I think honestly, every single woman in my life, I have such a great group of friends, like both in Broome and back home in Perth.
- 20:57SPEAKER_01: And I feel like I am just so lucky.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: I don't know how I scored them, but I did.
- 21:03SPEAKER_00: But and that's important.
- 21:04SPEAKER_00: I bang on about this all the time.
- 21:05SPEAKER_00: Anybody that has listened to the podcast and knows, you know, my background story and all the rest of it, yeah.
- 21:11SPEAKER_00: Having really good female women, whatever you want to call it, relationships is important.
- 21:18SPEAKER_00: Not only for your mental health, but also to keep you accountable and to, you know, I get that not everybody can find a friendship with somebody that they j that is genuine.
- 21:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 21:29SPEAKER_00: But I feel like you can't you can't put a price on a genuine friendship.
- 21:34SPEAKER_01: And I have so many, and I feel like I just thank my lucky stars every day for them.
- 21:37SPEAKER_00: That's so good.
- 21:38SPEAKER_00: So cute.
- 21:38SPEAKER_00: But I love that you admit to that too.
- 21:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 21:40SPEAKER_00: Because not a lot of people would probably do that.
- 21:42SPEAKER_00: Good on you.
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: Thanks.
- 21:44SPEAKER_00: Lastly, you would know this because you've listened to some episodes.
- 21:47SPEAKER_00: I do a shout out to, I usually say a woman, but it can be a couple of people.
- 21:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 21:52SPEAKER_00: Somebody that inspires you.
- 21:53SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 21:54SPEAKER_00: So somebody that you've just looked at in amazement, thought, man, they're kicking life's butt.
- 21:59SPEAKER_00: They're just doing the greatest thing ever.
- 22:01SPEAKER_01: Literally, how much time do we have?
- 22:03SPEAKER_01: Okay, I could talk for hours about all of these girls.
- 22:07SPEAKER_01: Um, I think I want to do a quick shout out to Molly Gray from Short Street.
- 22:11SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 22:12SPEAKER_01: She just did the High Rocks with Demi over the weekend.

- 22:21SPEAKER_01: Like, how do you do that?
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: I do not know.
- 22:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, God.
- 22:24SPEAKER_01: They got their sub 66 or whatever the high rocks term is.
- 22:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I don't even know.
- 22:28SPEAKER_00: I don't yeah.
- 22:29SPEAKER_00: I don't know what high rocks is because I asked her, but I was like, it sounds like madness.
- 22:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it sounds like absolute madness.
- 22:35SPEAKER_01: Like, I love the gym, but that's crazy.
- 22:37SPEAKER_01: Um, but I think I would like to give a big shout out to my one of my best friends from high school, Laura Gleason.
- 22:43SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 22:44SPEAKER_01: She is a naturopath and she's just started taking on clients at Broom Wellness, the health food store in um the Boulevard.
- 22:51SPEAKER_01: Oh, cool.
- 22:51SPEAKER_01: And she's so sweet, she's so beautiful and like she just cares about everything so deeply.
- 22:56SPEAKER_01: And yeah, she's been studying neuropathy for a while now, and it's been so nice watching her like grow through it all as well.
- 23:02SPEAKER_01: Watching her from when she wasn't sure if she wanted to start doing it, to finally finding her passion and being like, Yep, this is me.
- 23:09SPEAKER_01: Okay, cool.
- 23:10SPEAKER_01: Super beautiful.
- 23:10SPEAKER_00: Well, I'll put her details in the show notes too.
- 23:12SPEAKER_00: So if anybody's listening and they're like, oh, this sounds good.
- 23:14SPEAKER_00: I didn't even know the person that was here doing that.
- 23:18SPEAKER_01: It's just like good alternate to Western medicine, I guess.
- 23:22SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, there's lots of people that are in for that.
- 23:24SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, for sure.
- 23:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:25SPEAKER_00: And I mean, I have gone down that track for a lot of IBS issues.
