- 0:00Speaker 1: Track, the Galaxy's most unpredictable Star Trek podcast.
- 0:08Speaker 2: All right, what's going on?
- 0:23Speaker 3: Man?
- 0:24Speaker 1: What's going on?
- 0:26Speaker 4: Welcome to Trek Cast, the Galaxy's most unpredictable Star Trek Podcast.
- 0:32Speaker 4: Today we've got myself, Scot Strong, Beer Bowders, and uh
- 0:36Speaker 4: in the other corner, we've got Daniel Reyes.
- 0:39Speaker 5: The other quarter. We're fighting, I guess.
- 0:41Speaker 1: So I would want to fight you.
- 0:44Speaker 5: No, I know it would be impossible from this distance.
- 0:48Speaker 4: Right, So, uh, we are missing uh Dan, Yes, and
- 0:54Speaker 4: he just he just had another obligation, so that's right.
- 0:58Speaker 1: Yeah, he is not in my basement allegedly.
- 1:03Speaker 4: Allegedly, well no, not allegedly. I'm flat out saying he's
- 1:06Speaker 4: not in my basement.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Allegedly. Chad is not in my basement.
- 1:10Speaker 5: That's right, that's right. So yeah, I would say he'd
- 1:17Speaker 5: be back next week, but programming note, we will not
- 1:20Speaker 5: be back next week.
- 1:21Speaker 1: No, we won't be here.
- 1:23Speaker 5: We're taken next week off. Just to let you guys know,
- 1:26Speaker 5: from the very top, I have to go to a
- 1:30Speaker 5: family trip and it's going to be basically impossible for
- 1:33Speaker 5: me to do the show. And then Scott, you're going
- 1:37Speaker 5: to the to the comic convention.
- 1:38Speaker 4: Right, yes, so the just say another programming note. The
- 1:42Speaker 4: show would be absolutely impossible to do without Daniel. So
- 1:45Speaker 4: if he, you know, decided to, you know, move to Antarctica.
- 1:50Speaker 1: There no track cass. So he's literally the heart and
- 1:53Speaker 1: soul of the show.
- 1:54Speaker 4: And yes, I am going to the Grand Rapids Comic
- 1:56Speaker 4: Con next weekend.
- 1:57Speaker 1: I will be there all day Saturday and most of
- 2:00Speaker 1: the day Sunday. So I've got my uh, I've got
- 2:03Speaker 1: my press passes.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Uh.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Well, they emailed me and said they're so very much
- 2:11Speaker 1: looking forward to.
- 2:12Speaker 4: The you know, uh, the it's it's really about the
- 2:19Speaker 4: the panels. I love going to the Panels and and uh,
- 2:24Speaker 4: you know, there's there's a lot of star trek going
- 2:27Speaker 4: on there. Even though armand Shimmerman is not going to
- 2:29Speaker 4: be there like he originally was going to be, Andrew
- 2:31Speaker 4: Robinson is not going to be there. In fact, Andrew
- 2:35Speaker 4: Robinson his uh, his agent put out a thing that
- 2:41Speaker 4: he's pretty much retired from the smaller comic cons, so
- 2:45Speaker 4: he's only gonna be doing San Diego and I think
- 2:48Speaker 4: maybe one in New York.
- 2:50Speaker 1: So, uh, but Denise Crosby is going to be there,
- 2:54Speaker 1: and uh, you.
- 2:56Speaker 4: Know, Pavel Chekov himself is going to be there, so yeah, yeah,
- 3:01Speaker 4: we're we're looking forward to it. They're both doing panels too,
- 3:07Speaker 4: so Denise Crosby and Wow, I just had a blank.
- 3:13Speaker 4: Who played Checkov?
- 3:15Speaker 1: Oh, Walter Yeah, Walter Koenik yep, yep, yep.
- 3:20Speaker 4: So normally, in my experience, when the more famous celebrity
- 3:24Speaker 4: show up like Walter k George t Ka was at
- 3:26Speaker 4: the last Grand Rapids Comic Con, Wow, and he was
- 3:29Speaker 4: just there to do autographs. There was no panel, But
- 3:32Speaker 4: there's a panel scheduled for both George h Walter Koenig,
- 3:36Speaker 4: and Denise Crosby.
- 3:38Speaker 1: So I'm gonna go to both of those. I'm gonna
- 3:39Speaker 1: record both of those.
- 3:41Speaker 4: We'll pull those up on the on the Facebook group
- 3:43Speaker 4: and on the YouTube channel. So that's that's really the
- 3:47Speaker 4: most entertaining thing. The rest is just a giant comic
- 3:49Speaker 4: comic book flea market, which is great, Which is great,
- 3:52Speaker 4: and there's gonna be a lot of a lot of
- 3:54Speaker 4: people there, like you know, the the West Michigan people
- 3:59Speaker 4: from the West Michigan chapters of Starfleet Ghostbusters. I'm really
- 4:04Speaker 4: excited for one particular exhibit.
- 4:07Speaker 1: They usually have.
- 4:08Speaker 4: A bunch of a lot of people bring their their cars,
- 4:11Speaker 4: so like you know, the car from Supernatural or the
- 4:14Speaker 4: car from.
- 4:16Speaker 1: You know, the Vin Diesel movies and stuff like.
- 4:18Speaker 4: That, right right, Jurassic Park. You know they held the
- 4:22Speaker 4: park this year. There had Uh, the the nineteen eighty
- 4:27Speaker 4: two d m C DeLorean from Back to the.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Future is gonna be there.
- 4:30Speaker 4: I could not be more excited the future fans. So yeah, yep,
- 4:35Speaker 4: looking forward to that. So if anybody, and they can
- 4:38Speaker 4: hear the sound of my voice, uh is going to
- 4:41Speaker 4: be anywhere near the southwest Michigan area, and check out
- 4:47Speaker 4: Grand Grand Rapids Comic Con dot com for tickets.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Uh, it's it's really a big deal.
- 4:52Speaker 4: It's it's it's not quite as big as the one
- 4:54Speaker 4: in Chicago, right, but it's it's almost It's.
- 4:58Speaker 1: It's pretty it's a pretty big deal.
- 5:00Speaker 5: Oh well that's cool. That's cool.
- 5:02Speaker 1: So check it out. And if you are going to
- 5:04Speaker 1: be there, uh, send me a Facebook message.
- 5:07Speaker 5: Well nice, yeah, And I'm gonna be in southern California.
- 5:11Speaker 5: We are celebrating my dad's seventieth birthday.
- 5:15Speaker 1: And oh nice.
- 5:16Speaker 5: Yeah, And even though he lives here, like he lives
- 5:20Speaker 5: ten minutes from me, we're flying down in California so
- 5:23Speaker 5: he can be with his brothers and sisters to celebrate
- 5:26Speaker 5: the big milestone.
- 5:27Speaker 1: So well, happy birthday to Papa Reas.
- 5:30Speaker 5: Yeah, so it should be fun. I'm excited to get
- 5:32Speaker 5: good food because you don't really get it up here
- 5:34Speaker 5: in North Idaho. Okay, good good, jazz Be says good morning, yeslo.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Good morning jazz Bis. How are you?
- 5:43Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, and yeah, so so we're pretty stoked about that.
- 5:48Speaker 5: But yeah, we should probably get to the news then.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Okay, Donkey Star Trek News.
- 5:58Speaker 5: All right, so we're gonna start with the uh bit
- 6:01Speaker 5: of sad news for came out pretty real late this
- 6:05Speaker 5: week and we're so we're just hearing about it. But
- 6:08Speaker 5: according to Yahoo News, Tony Todd a kern And has
- 6:14Speaker 5: passed away. He was sixty nine years old. He was
- 6:18Speaker 5: also known as probably more more famously known as Candyman.
- 6:22Speaker 5: The Candyman. Yeah. I don't know if you ever saw that.
- 6:26Speaker 4: I you know, I when I mentioned the name Tony
- 6:29Speaker 4: Todd to my wife, she didn't know the name. And
- 6:32Speaker 4: when I said Kerrn, she was like, when I said
- 6:34Speaker 4: candy Man, She's like, oh yeah, yeah, yeah, she's a
- 6:37Speaker 4: big horror film fan.
- 6:39Speaker 5: So yeah, yeah, me too. So uh yeah, Candy Man
- 6:42Speaker 5: was a great film. He appeared in over two hundred
- 6:45Speaker 5: and forty films and TV shows he does oh wow, yeah,
- 6:51Speaker 5: so it's he's got quite the career. A lot of
- 6:55Speaker 5: voiceover work too, hit a very unique voice. Yes, yeah,
- 6:59Speaker 5: so a lot of voiceover work. But he really loved
- 7:02Speaker 5: Star Trek. He loved being part of the community. I
- 7:05Speaker 5: believe he did go to a few conventions from time
- 7:07Speaker 5: to time when he could.
- 7:10Speaker 4: Well, he probably you know, was you know, had a
- 7:13Speaker 4: following from both Star Trek and Horror, so I would imagine.
- 7:16Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah. There's even our show title this week.
- 7:21Speaker 5: It's called the Pain is Most Exquisite or something like that.
- 7:26Speaker 5: That's a line from Candy Man.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Okay, that's why it's that.
- 7:31Speaker 5: Also fits with what happened on the show. So that's
- 7:33Speaker 5: why I named the show that.
- 7:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:36Speaker 5: Yeah, but you know, he said Star Trek in an interview,
- 7:41Speaker 5: he said Star Trek was the first show that gave
- 7:43Speaker 5: him access to the fan world, and he's very grateful
- 7:47Speaker 5: to them for that. Oh yeah, he he you know,
- 7:52Speaker 5: he did the cling on makeup and prosidic, so he
- 7:54Speaker 5: was all in, came back several times, also known as
- 7:56Speaker 5: Old Jake. Yes, yeah, a very tear drinking episode.
- 8:02Speaker 4: So that yeah, which was like the inner light of
- 8:05Speaker 4: Deep Space nine. It was or that was a very
- 8:08Speaker 4: good episode. It's it's the first episode. In fact, it's
- 8:12Speaker 4: the first thing I thought of when I when I
- 8:14Speaker 4: heard he pasted, you know, most enormous Kern. Some people
- 8:18Speaker 4: remember him as a herosion, the herosion, yes, yeah, but
- 8:24Speaker 4: playing the older Jake Cisco that that episode, uh the
- 8:29Speaker 4: visitor from Deep Face nine when when Captain Cisco supposedly
- 8:33Speaker 4: dies and then comes back like a half a dozen
- 8:35Speaker 4: times throughout Jake's life. Yeah, yeah, that was a that
- 8:40Speaker 4: was a really good episode.
- 8:41Speaker 5: Yeah, it was a very good episode. So yeah. So
- 8:44Speaker 5: unfortunately Tony Todd has passed away, so I wanted to
- 8:48Speaker 5: share that now also making a kind of hard pivot
- 8:54Speaker 5: to other stuff. But we did get some interesting news
- 8:57Speaker 5: this week that came out and we're learning more about
- 9:01Speaker 5: Jerry Ryan apparently was pitched a seven of nine show. Uh,
- 9:08Speaker 5: this is coming to us from trekmovie dot com. And
- 9:11Speaker 5: she says that they had pitched her a seven of
- 9:15Speaker 5: nine show, not legacy, so it would not be legacy
- 9:19Speaker 5: at all, it would be just seven of nine. Uh
- 9:24Speaker 5: what was his name, John de Arco, He played Hugh.
- 9:27Speaker 5: He said, he said it would be a little bit
- 9:29Speaker 5: more Borg focused show because they love the Borg and
- 9:33Speaker 5: the new Trek.
- 9:34Speaker 4: Well, yeah, it's like I said, well, season one of
- 9:38Speaker 4: Picard was about the Borg, but season two was about wait,
- 9:41Speaker 4: the Borg.
- 9:42Speaker 1: That's well, season three was about oh yeah, the Borg.
- 9:44Speaker 5: Now we're gonna make a Borg show. Yeah, and I.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Love the Borg. I mean I would have wanted to out.
- 9:50Speaker 5: Of this, you know. Yeah, you know, I love Hamburgers,
- 9:53Speaker 5: but I don't want Hamburgers every day, you know, right right? Yeah?
- 9:56Speaker 5: So uh so, yeah, so she politely turned them down.
- 10:00Speaker 5: She says, you know, she knows the fans want legacy,
- 10:03Speaker 5: and that's what she wants to do. Raffie herself Michelle
- 10:07Speaker 5: Hurd also went on to say, yeah, we want legacy.
- 10:09Speaker 5: Let's do legacy. So apparently everyone knows about this, so we'll.
- 10:16Speaker 1: I'm just confused.
- 10:18Speaker 4: I mean, it's it's I mean, we're beating a dead
- 10:20Speaker 4: horse here, I understand, but why, I know, why don't
- 10:22Speaker 4: they get this? I mean, you know, does somebody need
- 10:26Speaker 4: to kidnap Jonathan Frakes and just hold him hostage until
- 10:30Speaker 4: they make this.
- 10:31Speaker 5: If only there was a basement in Michigan that we
- 10:33Speaker 5: could put him in for a while.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Yeah, that's right. Oh god, uh uh so.
- 10:44Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't know if we if we're gonna get Legacy.
- 10:46Speaker 5: I did see in our own Facebook group there was
- 10:50Speaker 5: the conspiracy theory that, you know, maybe they're waiting for
- 10:53Speaker 5: Terry Mentalis to finish the Vision show for Marvel that
- 10:56Speaker 5: then he could come back and do Legacy after that.
- 11:00Speaker 5: At that point, it's going to be a few years,
- 11:03Speaker 5: So I don't know if that's really a thing. You know,
- 11:10Speaker 5: they haven't tarn a Vision yet. There's just in pre
- 11:13Speaker 5: production of it. They got to shoot it, edit it,
- 11:16Speaker 5: get it out there, right.
- 11:19Speaker 1: I mean, you can be involved in two things at once,
- 11:22Speaker 1: and right, Terry Mettallas it was great for it's great
- 11:25Speaker 1: for Star Trek. He's not the only player in this game. Right.
- 11:30Speaker 5: A lot of people want him on board because of
- 11:32Speaker 5: how much they love Picard season three, So I get
- 11:34Speaker 5: wanting him to helm this ship. Right, Sure, But you're right,
- 11:41Speaker 5: there's you can find other people to run the show,
- 11:44Speaker 5: the writers, Yeah, the writers that you can get a
- 11:48Speaker 5: different showrunner. But he you know, could be the overall
- 11:51Speaker 5: producer that kind of oversees it. So at least he
- 11:53Speaker 5: would you know, he can still do that while while
- 11:57Speaker 5: doing vision that's not really a thing, you know.
- 12:01Speaker 4: And there's some talent out there. There's some Star Trek
- 12:03Speaker 4: actor talent out there, Belana, Tom Parris, Will Reker.
- 12:07Speaker 1: All those actors are accomplished directors and writers and storytellers
- 12:14Speaker 1: and showrunners.
- 12:15Speaker 5: So LeVar Burton was pretty well, yeah, you know, I
- 12:20Speaker 5: think you would be fantastic for this. So I mean,
- 12:25Speaker 5: so let's get a.
- 12:26Speaker 4: Dream team together. And you know, they've got a chance.
- 12:30Speaker 4: I almost had Paramount has a chance, but who the
- 12:33Speaker 4: hell knows who's going to be actually owning this stuff
- 12:35Speaker 4: in a year. But they've got a chance. They could
- 12:38Speaker 4: put together a dream team and and it's something that
- 12:40Speaker 4: they could, they could.
- 12:42Speaker 1: I mean, it was birthed with Discovery, this this new
- 12:45Speaker 1: age of Star Trek and and because because we're so
- 12:48Speaker 1: lucky to have this new age of Star Trek is
- 12:49Speaker 1: you know, from the early two thousands until twenty seventeen,
- 12:52Speaker 1: we didn't.
- 12:52Speaker 4: Have anything, and and now we've got this you know,
- 12:56Speaker 4: resurgence of interest. Why can't they you know, just see
- 13:03Speaker 4: what they've got going. I mean, there's got to be
- 13:05Speaker 4: a ton of money that can Why.
- 13:08Speaker 5: Can we have nice things?
- 13:09Speaker 1: Yeah? Why can't we have nice things?
- 13:11Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 13:12Speaker 4: Everybody wants legacy. Everybody's talking about legacy, and it's not
- 13:16Speaker 4: just you.
- 13:16Speaker 5: Know, it's it's not just us. Like if you go
- 13:19Speaker 5: and if you go and look at any paramount posting
- 13:22Speaker 5: of like Academy or the Section thirty one, it's just
- 13:26Speaker 5: filled with give us legacy, give us legacy.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Yeah. No, Jerry Ryan said, I want to do legacy.
- 13:33Speaker 5: Yeah. It comes up at all the conventions, like that's
- 13:36Speaker 5: what people want. So I don't I don't know.
- 13:39Speaker 4: Right, Yeah, Well maybe I'll hear something at the comic con.
- 13:45Speaker 5: Yeah, maybe I'll get some sort of exclusive sure, sure, sure,
- 13:48Speaker 5: why not?
- 13:49Speaker 1: Why not?
- 13:50Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 13:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:54Speaker 5: And then we're also learning a little bit more about
- 13:56Speaker 5: Section thirty one the show. This is coming out from.
- 14:00Speaker 5: There was a panel during the New York Comic Con
- 14:02Speaker 5: and they're just now kind of writing about it, So
- 14:06Speaker 5: we're learning a little bit more about it. And basically
- 14:10Speaker 5: what we have learned is that the story of Section
- 14:14Speaker 5: thirty one the movie is going to focus around Georgio
- 14:18Speaker 5: and some of her past acts and needing to rectify
- 14:22Speaker 5: those acts. So okay, so that like this is your
- 14:29Speaker 5: life kind of thing.
- 14:31Speaker 4: Yeah, but that also implies if she has to rectify
- 14:33Speaker 4: those actses, this is going to take place in the
- 14:35Speaker 4: mere universe.
- 14:37Speaker 1: I wasn't talking about unless.
- 14:39Speaker 4: They're talking about crap she did since she got to
- 14:42Speaker 4: the prime.
- 14:44Speaker 5: Universe, right, and they weren't clear on any distinction of
- 14:47Speaker 5: that way, So we don't really know either way.
- 14:51Speaker 1: It's a Discovery timeline, So yeah, nobody cares. Right.
- 14:56Speaker 5: Some of the characters she will have past relationships with
- 15:00Speaker 5: of some sort, so they're not going to be all
- 15:02Speaker 5: just new to her, but they'll be new to us
- 15:04Speaker 5: as the audience. And then so I don't I don't know, man.
- 15:11Speaker 1: I'm gonna watch it.
- 15:13Speaker 5: Yeah for the show.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, we're gonna watch it.
- 15:16Speaker 5: We're gonna watch it, and hopefully I'm hoping it's good.
- 15:20Speaker 5: I'll say that I want it to be good, but
- 15:24Speaker 5: I am holding my breath very much. So yes. And
- 15:28Speaker 5: then our last news story I kind of just added
- 15:30Speaker 5: in this last minute, but I will put it in
- 15:33Speaker 5: the show notes for those of you who might be
- 15:35Speaker 5: interested in this. But according to military dot Com, paramount
- 15:40Speaker 5: just doubled its military discount for Veterans Day ooohoo. Yeah,
- 15:46Speaker 5: so you know, they were offering twenty five percent off
- 15:50Speaker 5: a paramount plus subscription to military members and they are
- 15:56Speaker 5: now offering a fifty percent off military or subscription. Oh wow,
- 16:02Speaker 5: as long as you apply by November eleventh. So being
- 16:05Speaker 5: that it's the tenth today, you got to act quick.
- 16:09Speaker 4: I will share that on some of my uh some
- 16:12Speaker 4: of my military Facebook groups.
- 16:14Speaker 5: Yeah. So the way it works is if you are
- 16:16Speaker 5: a new member, you go to their your sheer ID page.
- 16:20Speaker 5: I'm not sure what that is. Imagine you you would know, Scott.
- 16:23Speaker 4: Yeah, Like, I'm not familiar with sheer id, but it's
- 16:27Speaker 4: there's a bunch of different companies that do that do
- 16:30Speaker 4: verifications to prove to like, if you're going to do this,
- 16:33Speaker 4: you can go to a company, you can go to
- 16:35Speaker 4: a website to prove that you're.
- 16:36Speaker 5: A veteran right, because you need a like a card
- 16:39Speaker 5: right that you give you right. So apparently you go
- 16:42Speaker 5: to a sheer id page and I'll have this links
- 16:45Speaker 5: in the in the show notes to this article, and
- 16:47Speaker 5: they have all the links in the article and you
- 16:50Speaker 5: just apply for it and then you get your fifty
- 16:52Speaker 5: percent off discount. If you're a current Paramount Plus subscriber,
- 16:56Speaker 5: you have to cancel your current subscription and then go
- 17:00Speaker 5: to your sheer id page and start a new one
- 17:02Speaker 5: and then you'll get your fifty percent off.
- 17:04Speaker 1: So groovy.
- 17:06Speaker 5: Yeah, so I thought, you know, people would like to
- 17:08Speaker 5: know that, you know, save some money.
- 17:10Speaker 1: So happy Veterans Day everyone.
- 17:12Speaker 5: Yeah, Happy Veterans Day. I did not realize it was
- 17:14Speaker 5: coming because I'm bad with all it is.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:18Speaker 5: Yeah, all right, well that is our news stories. We
- 17:24Speaker 5: should get to our main topic.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Let's do it fun.
- 17:28Speaker 3: Will now come back.
- 17:34Speaker 5: And our main topic tonight is Star Trek Lower Decks
- 17:39Speaker 5: Season five is episode four, if I remember correctly, Yes, yeah,
- 17:45Speaker 5: A fell wall to Farms was the name of the episode.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Yes.
- 17:49Speaker 5: I did say, like quick reaction that it was a
- 17:53Speaker 5: fell wall to arms. No, it's farms.
- 17:56Speaker 1: Yes, Oh did you say arms?
- 17:59Speaker 5: I did say arms. Yeah that's great. Yeah, but yeah,
- 18:05Speaker 5: so it's a it was a fun episode. Trying to
- 18:08Speaker 5: pull up the h the little slides right now, but
- 18:12Speaker 5: it is fighting me. Yeah, do you want to kind
- 18:15Speaker 5: of recap the episode?
- 18:17Speaker 1: Yeah? The tag is uh doctor Miglemo is that his name?
- 18:23Speaker 5: I can't remember his name.
- 18:24Speaker 4: Okay, the bird, the bird psychiatrist cooks up some hot
- 18:28Speaker 4: dishes and Mariner.
- 18:29Speaker 1: Prefers hers serve cold.
- 18:31Speaker 4: So basically, there are three diplomats from doctor Miglemo's home world,
- 18:37Speaker 4: three feathered people that come on board and there everybody
- 18:42Speaker 4: apparently his entire planet is is like food based, Like
- 18:45Speaker 4: that's that's why they develop warp drive is so they
- 18:48Speaker 4: could seek out new dishes. So it's all about, Yeah,
- 18:53Speaker 4: it's it's all about It's all about the food for them.
- 18:57Speaker 4: So they come on board and uh, some some chaos
- 18:59Speaker 4: and os, and then the the beat, the really the
- 19:03Speaker 4: c story or the A story is, uh, Mariner goes
- 19:06Speaker 4: to visit uh Maha, which is the Klingon that she
- 19:13Speaker 4: met in last season's episode nine, Uh the Inner fight, Right,
- 19:19Speaker 4: So she goes to visit him and he has lost
- 19:22Speaker 4: the captaincy of his ship and Mariner is there on
- 19:25Speaker 4: a separate starfleet mission and decides to help him.
- 19:29Speaker 5: So, yeah, so you had you had a couple of
- 19:32Speaker 5: different things going on. It was that.
- 19:38Speaker 1: I really liked the episode. I thought it was great.
- 19:41Speaker 4: I thought it had some I thought it had some
- 19:43Speaker 4: own like the jokes are usually callback based, but I
- 19:48Speaker 4: thought the jokes in this were not only were the
- 19:52Speaker 4: see there were some callback based jokes, but they were
- 19:55Speaker 4: lower decks. Has gone on so long now that they're
- 19:58Speaker 4: calling back to their own episodes, which I think says
- 20:02Speaker 4: something about their longevity. But I thought some of the
- 20:06Speaker 4: joke my favorite, my favorite joke in the whole play
- 20:08Speaker 4: in the whole thing was, uh, when Mariner met MoG's
- 20:12Speaker 4: girlfriend and she like, you know, what are you doing?
- 20:15Speaker 4: Fright nize with assuming she walks off, Marenck goes, well,
- 20:18Speaker 4: crawled up her boom window. Yeah, I gotta almost spitt
- 20:24Speaker 4: you know.
- 20:25Speaker 5: You know who that was too? Who was a voice
- 20:27Speaker 5: and the girlfriend? Uh no Mary, I'm always gonna mispronounce
- 20:33Speaker 5: her last name like Chayfu or something like that. She
- 20:35Speaker 5: was the the lady kling On in Discovery then the
- 20:39Speaker 5: first like the season.
- 20:41Speaker 4: Oh yeah so that was her kay Laara?
- 20:47Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah, so that's cool to be a cling on again. Yeah, yeah,
- 20:53Speaker 5: there she is, there's withfore.
- 20:58Speaker 1: Window.
- 20:59Speaker 5: Yeah, I love Klingon. Yeah, that's great. A Wolf does
- 21:04Speaker 5: ask Uh was this the first episode to not have
- 21:07Speaker 5: a regular opening, Yeah, I feel like they've done other
- 21:10Speaker 5: cold open episodes before.
- 21:13Speaker 4: Yes, they I've read on the internet there was another
- 21:15Speaker 4: episode that did, but I really really I noticed that
- 21:19Speaker 4: it was a different cold open.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Yeah, and I really liked it. I liked it too.
- 21:24Speaker 4: Sometimes sometimes a cold open like can be a little
- 21:28Speaker 4: bit harsh, especially if it's a sort of a zany
- 21:33Speaker 4: cold open, if it's if the background is sort of
- 21:37Speaker 4: like somber and this, I thought it really.
- 21:40Speaker 1: Really fit the flow of the episode, and so I'm
- 21:43Speaker 1: glad they made that choice.
- 21:45Speaker 5: I liked Boimler's little weird mustache that he's got going.
- 21:51Speaker 1: He's so desertly trying to grow facial air.
- 21:54Speaker 5: Yeah, and it's just it's not working, buddy.
- 21:56Speaker 4: You know, you think in the twenty fourth century they'd
- 21:59Speaker 4: have some sort of you know, just for men type
- 22:02Speaker 4: of follicle, you know, growth enhancement.
- 22:09Speaker 5: I feel like, uh, this has been answered by Gene
- 22:12Speaker 5: Roddenberry because they were looking at originally getting a wig
- 22:17Speaker 5: for Picard. Oh yeah, yeah, and you know, famously the
- 22:20Speaker 5: response was no, in the twenty fourth century, just won't matter.
- 22:24Speaker 4: Oh okay, yeah, yeah, doesn't matter how many little, uh
- 22:28Speaker 4: little fur hairs he has on his little face.
- 22:33Speaker 5: So yeah, so that was the doctor I have the
- 22:36Speaker 5: slide up of him right now, and uh, this guy
- 22:39Speaker 5: always cracks me up, so I'm glad that we had
- 22:41Speaker 5: an episode with him.
- 22:43Speaker 1: Yeah, and the Captain was about to come on glues.
- 22:45Speaker 1: She's like, uh, you better take over because I'm about
- 22:47Speaker 1: to say something stupid.
- 22:48Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah, I'm about to make a diplomatic crisis year.
- 22:51Speaker 4: Because those those diplomats they so reminded me of betazoid ambassadors.
- 22:58Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah, just really tough to deal with. But apparently
- 23:03Speaker 5: like they had lost their their sense of taste.
- 23:05Speaker 4: Yeah, that was the whole That was the whole point
- 23:07Speaker 4: why they were being such jerks is because they're food critics,
- 23:11Speaker 4: and I guess you know, food critics are like, you know,
- 23:14Speaker 4: they're the ambassadors, they're the high falutin of their society,
- 23:18Speaker 4: and they had lost their taste and they were trying
- 23:20Speaker 4: to Yeah, they're trying to cover that fact up by
- 23:24Speaker 4: just saying everything they taste is disgusting and and and
- 23:28Speaker 4: the Sorita's crew sort of kind of figures that out,
- 23:31Speaker 4: and at the end they serve them a dish that's
- 23:34Speaker 4: made out of manure, and and they're like, yeah, we.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Can't you know, this is uh, we can't taste anything or.
- 23:40Speaker 5: This is delicious or what.
- 23:41Speaker 4: Oh, they're they're back in their home world and they're
- 23:43Speaker 4: they're finally they're finally being served some quote unquote good
- 23:46Speaker 4: food and they eat it and they're like, oh, this
- 23:48Speaker 4: is delicious and they're like, ha, we got you because
- 23:50Speaker 4: it's actually manure.
- 23:53Speaker 5: I can't believe that's how they get them.
- 23:54Speaker 4: That's that's kind of gross. But yeah, yeah, and then
- 24:01Speaker 4: so how how did how did the A story end?
- 24:05Speaker 5: So they had to go like to their local Klingon council,
- 24:10Speaker 5: right and they had to go through some sort of
- 24:13Speaker 5: like pain trial.
- 24:16Speaker 1: Yep, we brought we get We got to see the
- 24:17Speaker 1: pain sticks again.
- 24:19Speaker 5: Yeah, we got to see the pain That was great.
- 24:21Speaker 4: And the what the thing I loved the most about
- 24:24Speaker 4: the scene when they're going through the pain sticks is
- 24:27Speaker 4: if you freeze frame and look at the faces of everyone,
- 24:30Speaker 4: especially Mariner as they're getting shocked, it's a hilarious.
- 24:35Speaker 5: Yeah yeah I love that. Yeah, yeah, we got Blomeler
- 24:39Speaker 5: and getting shocked at least that paramount released. Yeah, it's great.
- 24:46Speaker 5: It was great. And then like they use their their starfleet,
- 24:49Speaker 5: no how of like if we all jump on each other,
- 24:53Speaker 5: we can spread the voltage between us.
- 24:56Speaker 1: All right, I'm not an electrical engineer. I'll have to
- 24:58Speaker 1: look this up.
- 24:59Speaker 4: But each one of those painsticks at its highest setting,
- 25:01Speaker 4: which is really meant to kill you, it's thirty thousand volts.
- 25:04Speaker 4: And Boimler says, well, if we all get on the
- 25:07Speaker 4: back of what's his face's brother, it'll spread out the
- 25:10Speaker 4: volts evenly and we won't die. So I guess the
- 25:14Speaker 4: next time you're being stuck with thirty thousand volts, uh,
- 25:18Speaker 4: jump on them.
- 25:18Speaker 5: You know, my gut is that's not accurate.
- 25:22Speaker 4: I don't know are there any are there any electricians
- 25:24Speaker 4: or electrical engineers.
- 25:25Speaker 5: In the that would know? Yeah? That right, it's just
- 25:29Speaker 5: not going to work. I feel like if you have
- 25:31Speaker 5: rubber shoes that helps because you know, yeah maybe yeah,
- 25:35Speaker 5: but who knows. Yeah, but you have to stand still
- 25:39Speaker 5: because like the minute you lift your foot to walk,
- 25:44Speaker 5: you're right that circuit.
- 25:46Speaker 4: So right, yeah, let's talk a little bit about Boimler
- 25:50Speaker 4: and his new obsession would like cling on culture. Like, yeah,
- 25:55Speaker 4: he was not acting really Boimler e in this episode
- 25:58Speaker 4: because he was like really digging all the violence, and
- 26:01Speaker 4: at one point.
- 26:02Speaker 1: He got thrown across the bar and he's like, I
- 26:04Speaker 1: just got thrown by a click.
- 26:06Speaker 4: Uh you know, he's getting his butt kicked. Yeah, but
- 26:09Speaker 4: he's loved every minute of it. My favorite part was
- 26:13Speaker 4: towards the end where they have to capture that ginormous
- 26:17Speaker 4: targ and and Boibler just like I got this, and
- 26:21Speaker 4: they're like no, and he just jumps on the targ
- 26:24Speaker 4: doesn't move it at all, and he just turns.
- 26:25Speaker 1: Around and goes yay. I I thought that was a
- 26:29Speaker 1: great buttlemit.
- 26:30Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah, And it was because, uh something along
- 26:36Speaker 5: the last episode he had been in such danger. Now
- 26:39Speaker 5: he's learning to love it or he felt like he
- 26:41Speaker 5: was tougher than he thought he was, so right, that's
- 26:44Speaker 5: why he was more.
- 26:46Speaker 1: So he's enjoying this.
- 26:47Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, which is cool. That's a good character development
- 26:51Speaker 5: for him, and I hope they continue it throughout the season.
- 26:53Speaker 4: So I guess it's a major character development from an
- 26:55Speaker 4: episode that was last week that I completely forgot about.
- 26:58Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 27:00Speaker 1: I don't pay attention to these shows obviously.
- 27:05Speaker 5: Right right. I thought it was cool too that the
- 27:10Speaker 5: so the whole deal was that the the Klingon captain
- 27:14Speaker 5: was kicked out of the military and was no longer
- 27:17Speaker 5: a captain and so he was running his farm. But
- 27:20Speaker 5: at the end of this he's given a commission and
- 27:23Speaker 5: becomes a captain again and ultimately decides to have his
- 27:27Speaker 5: own ship with him and his brother and the giant
- 27:30Speaker 5: targ Yes. Yeah, so, and it's like a small ship, right,
- 27:34Speaker 5: it's like like basically a.
- 27:37Speaker 1: It's like a shuttle craft and shuttle craft.
- 27:40Speaker 5: Yeah. So it's just the two of them in the
- 27:42Speaker 5: targ yep yeah.
- 27:44Speaker 4: So, but yeah, happy, I need now the the Klingons
- 27:47Speaker 4: from the council.
- 27:48Speaker 1: What did I read? You know? That brings up a.
- 27:51Speaker 4: Funny point too, Like I always check out the IMDb.
- 27:54Speaker 1: Of these episodes.
- 27:55Speaker 4: Uh yeah, yeah, a couple of days after the air,
- 27:57Speaker 4: because the way the IMDb gets there trivia from is
- 28:01Speaker 4: it they're they're all users submitted and and I've submitted
- 28:04Speaker 4: some trivia, some some trivia that.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Have been accepted on a few things.
- 28:10Speaker 4: All the trivia, almost all the trivia for this episode,
- 28:14Speaker 4: it's all uh translations of all the Klingon words. Oh
- 28:19Speaker 4: like this means that, and that means this. It's almost
- 28:22Speaker 4: none of it is like what actually happened in the episode.
- 28:25Speaker 4: But in season one, episode two envoy Boimler is assigned
- 28:30Speaker 4: to to escort a Klingon envoy. Mariner joins him and
- 28:34Speaker 4: kas En sues. Korn is the Klingon envoy they escort.
- 28:39Speaker 4: Mm hmm, so so that's Korn is the.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Let me look up the U.
- 28:47Speaker 5: I mean, Kor was one of my favorite nineties bands.
- 28:49Speaker 4: But that was one of the Klingons in the episode, right,
- 28:54Speaker 4: so it calls back to uh yeah, Coren was the
- 29:04Speaker 4: the Klingon in this episode that was the son of
- 29:12Speaker 4: the of the Council.
- 29:15Speaker 5: Okay, okay, that's that's so it's.
- 29:17Speaker 1: A call back to a season one episode.
- 29:19Speaker 5: Okay, okay that they didn't realize.
- 29:22Speaker 4: Yeah, because Marin is like, hey, what's up. But you know,
- 29:24Speaker 4: we you know, we haven't seen each.
- 29:25Speaker 1: Other in a while.
- 29:26Speaker 4: And yeah, so so they're starting to call back their
- 29:30Speaker 4: own episodes, which.
- 29:31Speaker 5: Yeah, their own history. Yeah that's cool. Yeah. And then, uh,
- 29:39Speaker 5: you know, we didn't really get a lot of ten
- 29:41Speaker 5: D or Rutherford really, I mean they were there.
- 29:43Speaker 1: Elen wasn't even in this episode.
- 29:45Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, that's true. I guess. Yeah. I really thought
- 29:52Speaker 5: what that cooled open? I thought, oh man, they're gonna
- 29:54Speaker 5: do It's just a completely different episode in the final season.
- 29:57Speaker 1: But right, who was leg Nag in this episode? Do
- 30:02Speaker 1: you know?
- 30:05Speaker 4: L E G n O n And the only reason
- 30:07Speaker 4: why I ask is because I was looking up the
- 30:09Speaker 4: cast list and there's a leg Nog played by Sam
- 30:12Speaker 4: Whitworer and Sam Whitweer if if we remember he uh
- 30:17Speaker 4: he does the voice.
- 30:18Speaker 1: Of Darth Maul. Oh, yeah, that that's Sam Whitworer. He
- 30:24Speaker 1: was also in Smallville.
- 30:26Speaker 4: He's the live he does a voice and live action
- 30:29Speaker 4: of the Oh that Star Wars video game.
- 30:34Speaker 5: Oh yeah, the Apprentice or something like that.
- 30:37Speaker 4: It's something like I own it now. I'm having a
- 30:41Speaker 4: hard time recalling this morning. I'm not a big video
- 30:45Speaker 4: game kicked in yet Force Unleashed.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Okay, so yeah, he's kind of big in the sci
- 30:52Speaker 1: fi nerd world.
- 30:54Speaker 5: Yeah. So, but it sounds like you liked the episode
- 30:58Speaker 5: though I did.
- 31:00Speaker 1: I thought it was good. I liked all the jokes.
- 31:03Speaker 1: I thought it was a funny. It was to me,
- 31:05Speaker 1: this was the funniest episode all season.
- 31:10Speaker 5: So I put in our Facebook group with people, you know,
- 31:12Speaker 5: people's reaction to the episode, James said, excellent, through and
- 31:16Speaker 5: through love. The last cold open episode centered on Peanut Hamper,
- 31:22Speaker 5: and this one makes me even more upset that there
- 31:24Speaker 5: won't be any more lower decks, at least not for
- 31:26Speaker 5: a while. Hoping he gets picked up like Prodigy did
- 31:30Speaker 5: on Netflix or somewhere else.
- 31:32Speaker 1: So yeah, I wouldn't count on it.
- 31:37Speaker 5: Yeah, that's kind of my thoughts.
- 31:39Speaker 4: And there's the reason I don't think it's gonna happen
- 31:42Speaker 4: is because this canceling seems deliberate.
- 31:47Speaker 1: Yeah, it doesn't seem.
- 31:49Speaker 4: Like the ratings just fell off and they run out
- 31:51Speaker 4: of ideas. I think it's more of a we've done
- 31:54Speaker 4: five seasons, this is what we're planning, and maybe they
- 31:57Speaker 4: got something more in store for us next year the
- 32:00Speaker 4: year after.
- 32:01Speaker 5: So oh see, I feel like it's like, well, we've
- 32:04Speaker 5: done five seasons. We'd have to re up their contracts
- 32:06Speaker 5: quite a bit. We don't want to make the show
- 32:08Speaker 5: cost way much, you know, so much more to keep going.
- 32:12Speaker 4: So yeah, and that could be too, That could be too.
- 32:14Speaker 4: But I think this is a different situation than Prodigy.
- 32:17Speaker 1: Yeah, so not a lot.
- 32:19Speaker 4: Of people watch Prodigy enough did that they wanted to,
- 32:22Speaker 4: you know, finish the second season, right, I'm still I'm
- 32:25Speaker 4: still in the middle of that that that watch.
- 32:27Speaker 5: So okay, yeah, no, I gave up.
- 32:29Speaker 2: So okay, yeah.
- 32:35Speaker 4: I you know, it's one of one hundred things that
- 32:37Speaker 4: I quote unquote need to watch, so.
- 32:40Speaker 5: Right right, yeah, it well says yeah, not Netflix since
- 32:43Speaker 5: they're not doing season three or Prodigy. Yeah that's true.
- 32:46Speaker 5: That did come out that they're not going to do
- 32:47Speaker 5: season three. So but yeah, uh, you know, we got
- 32:53Speaker 5: another episode next week, and so I guess when we
- 32:56Speaker 5: come back, not next week, but the week after, we'll
- 33:00Speaker 5: review two episodes.
- 33:02Speaker 4: So yeah, and we'll do uh yeah, that's gonna be
- 33:05Speaker 4: a big, big show because I'll be back from Comic
- 33:08Speaker 4: Con and yeah, and Dan will be back.
- 33:11Speaker 5: Yeah. So but yeah, so that's that's the episode.
- 33:19Speaker 1: Absolutely. I have a I have a suggestion. What's that.
- 33:24Speaker 1: I don't know if we want to do that after
- 33:26Speaker 1: the Oh we just.
- 33:28Speaker 5: Got a chat that says a pretty great thing. I
- 33:30Speaker 5: think they're allergic to this time period. Give me a
- 33:32Speaker 5: lower decks and legacy any day.
- 33:35Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I agree, I agree, Yeah.
- 33:40Speaker 1: Yeah, anyways, I have a recommendation. Sure, So I'm I.
- 33:46Speaker 4: I started getting into audiobooks a little bit. Oh yeah,
- 33:49Speaker 4: and I started listening to the Picard prequels. Oh okay,
- 33:57Speaker 4: and I I accidentally want I accidentally listen to h
- 34:01Speaker 4: book two of I think it's book two of five
- 34:06Speaker 4: called The Dark Veil, and then I just started listening
- 34:08Speaker 4: to book one.
- 34:09Speaker 1: So there's a.
- 34:10Speaker 4: Series of Star Trek Picard books. There's The Last Best
- 34:16Speaker 4: Hope that's the first one, The Dark Veil, Rogue Elements,
- 34:20Speaker 4: Second Self, and Firewall, and book one basically takes place
- 34:28Speaker 4: at the beginning when they when the Romulans find out
- 34:30Speaker 4: that their sun is going to go nova, and it's
- 34:34Speaker 4: it's all about Picard forming a task force to do
- 34:39Speaker 4: something about it, and it it it's the genesis of
- 34:43Speaker 4: the Synths. And I'm about halfway through that one right now.
- 34:48Speaker 4: I already read, or I already listened to The Dark Veil,
- 34:51Speaker 4: which takes place several years later, so but it gets
- 34:56Speaker 4: more into The Dark Veil gets more into the romulans
- 35:01Speaker 4: distaste for UH synthetic life forms. So as I as
- 35:07Speaker 4: I finish each book, I'm gonna do I'm gonna finish
- 35:10Speaker 4: the Last Best Hope and then I'll.
- 35:11Speaker 1: Do a review of it.
- 35:12Speaker 5: Okay, great, so great, I'm.
- 35:13Speaker 4: Gonna I'm gonna listen to all five and so far
- 35:16Speaker 4: there it's really good. Like I said, I'm about halfway
- 35:18Speaker 4: through the first book. It's it's well written, good storyline,
- 35:22Speaker 4: so I look forward to finishing it.
- 35:24Speaker 5: Nice. Well, let's get to uh, listener feedback, listener feedback.
- 35:35Speaker 5: All right, so we got Chasbiz waiting. Uh so let
- 35:39Speaker 5: me pull him in, and Chas Biss is.
- 35:41Speaker 1: In the dark looking like Chasbiz. That's right, that's right
- 35:45Speaker 1: with the tractor beam.
- 35:46Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, yeah, well that's not a tractor beam, that's
- 35:54Speaker 3: the beaming up. So I guess you're right right sucking
- 35:58Speaker 3: me in.
- 35:59Speaker 5: So what did you think of the episode?
- 36:02Speaker 3: I love the cold open. It's pretty cool.
- 36:05Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 36:06Speaker 3: I like the music to it, and it was like, oh,
- 36:08Speaker 3: it's kind of like a movie and everything in the
- 36:09Speaker 3: way it starts, and then the episode itself, and I like,
- 36:13Speaker 3: you know, it was all right some parts.
- 36:16Speaker 5: Yeah, what was your favorite part?
- 36:20Speaker 3: I like the pain six, okay, because that always costs
- 36:24Speaker 3: me up, you know, just this whole ceremony of getting
- 36:27Speaker 3: shocked to the end, So yeah, kind of stupid, but it.
- 36:31Speaker 5: Was something you were not that enthusiastic about.
- 36:35Speaker 3: I don't know, I'd say the b storyline. Maybe the
- 36:40Speaker 3: bird the bird snobs, yeah, because you know, birds aren't real.
- 36:44Speaker 5: So true, that's true.
- 36:46Speaker 3: I don't know who those things were, so.
- 36:49Speaker 5: It's the Baganda, the propaganda of the birds.
- 36:52Speaker 1: Yes, I want to see them attempt to do those
- 36:54Speaker 1: kind of characters in.
- 36:55Speaker 5: Live action, Oh my god.
- 36:59Speaker 3: They Yeah, I'm sure.
- 37:02Speaker 4: I'm sure, and it probably wouldn't be for the whole episode.
- 37:05Speaker 1: Like I, I can understand if they just did like
- 37:07Speaker 1: a cameo.
- 37:08Speaker 3: You know, they have to go to hobby lobby and
- 37:10Speaker 3: get a bunch of feathers, and.
- 37:12Speaker 5: I would want them to do it. I want them
- 37:15Speaker 5: to do it in that really bad enterprise c G. I.
- 37:18Speaker 1: Oh no, yeah, the.
- 37:22Speaker 3: Yeah, that doesn't look all right, you.
- 37:29Speaker 5: Know, but oh it will ask god, is that a
- 37:34Speaker 5: featured trick shirt of the week that you're wearing.
- 37:37Speaker 1: Yes, it is Starfleet Academy.
- 37:40Speaker 5: Nice, he's getting ready for the show, that's right. Yeah,
- 37:44Speaker 5: that's right.
- 37:45Speaker 3: Even though you don't like Paul g Imani, which is weird.
- 37:48Speaker 5: That's right, you know.
- 37:50Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't like movies are just sideways.
- 37:54Speaker 1: Just no, just I've seen Spider Man two.
- 37:58Speaker 3: But you're a big fan of horrible movie of his.
- 38:04Speaker 1: Spider Red.
- 38:05Speaker 4: Hey, Spider Red two is a good film.
- 38:10Speaker 1: Well, yeah, I like she was. Yeah, I like she Hawk.
- 38:13Speaker 5: Why she's gonna be in it?
- 38:15Speaker 4: Oh that's right, Yeah, that's right. Now I'm excited about that.
- 38:19Speaker 4: I liked and I like she Hawk, and I liked
- 38:22Speaker 4: her and she haulk.
- 38:23Speaker 5: So yeah, I liked her. She had a show before
- 38:25Speaker 5: that called Orphan Black. Have you've ever seen that? Great show?
- 38:31Speaker 3: No?
- 38:32Speaker 5: Yeah, Orphan Black is a great show.
- 38:35Speaker 1: I don't think that. I don't think that show made
- 38:36Speaker 1: it out of Idaho.
- 38:38Speaker 5: No, it's so okay, interesting premise, right, So, so the
- 38:43Speaker 5: first episode, this girl she's on a train platform and
- 38:48Speaker 5: she sees this other girl from across the way and like,
- 38:50Speaker 5: she's like that other girl kind of looks like me.
- 38:54Speaker 5: And then through a series of events, the other girl
- 38:56Speaker 5: gets killed and then she goes and she she looks
- 38:59Speaker 5: at the uh, at the person, and it it's her.
- 39:03Speaker 5: It's a clone of her. And so yeah, and so
- 39:08Speaker 5: it's like this big mystery of like, why is there
- 39:10Speaker 5: a clone of her?
- 39:12Speaker 1: It does sound interesting, Yeah.
- 39:14Speaker 5: And it gets really really interesting because later in the
- 39:18Speaker 5: season there's more clones that pop up. Yeah, what's it
- 39:21Speaker 5: called Orphan Black? Hey, well, oh my god, spoilers, Daniel.
- 39:28Speaker 5: This is the first episode I'm not spoiling the rest
- 39:31Speaker 5: of the season. Yeah. Yeah, And she plays all the
- 39:37Speaker 5: clones and it shows how great of an actress she
- 39:41Speaker 5: is because they're all very, very different.
- 39:44Speaker 1: She's easy on the eyes too, so yeah.
- 39:46Speaker 5: Yeah, Orphan Black's a really interesting show.
- 39:49Speaker 3: So I don't tell your wife that.
- 39:51Speaker 1: So she's easy on the eyes. Yeah, I mean, I'm
- 39:55Speaker 1: not googling over I'm she's so high.
- 39:58Speaker 3: I hope she has a boob wind.
- 40:00Speaker 5: Yeah. Where's my Dune popcorn bucket? Right?
- 40:08Speaker 4: God? Oh yeah, Dad, we need you back?
- 40:17Speaker 3: We popcorn buckets or any of the new movie ones.
- 40:23Speaker 5: I don't I don't buy the popcorn buckets. I'm just
- 40:25Speaker 5: that's not a thing for me.
- 40:26Speaker 3: Yeah. That the Dune one was the you know, because
- 40:29Speaker 3: it was too joke. Yeah, well it was just too crazy.
- 40:32Speaker 3: It's just like, yeah, I'm a big Dune fan.
- 40:34Speaker 5: So now if we get a Paddington popcorn bucket.
- 40:38Speaker 1: Well there you go. Yeah. Yeah.
- 40:41Speaker 4: The next popcorn buck bucket I might get is uh
- 40:44Speaker 4: the Superman movie.
- 40:46Speaker 5: Oh yeah, so what they do with that?
- 40:50Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, well it could be a red boot.
- 40:57Speaker 3: Maybe just like a giant or uh yeah, I'll probably
- 41:01Speaker 3: just be it will probably just be you know, his
- 41:04Speaker 3: chess piece.
- 41:05Speaker 1: You want to be Superman's ass.
- 41:15Speaker 4: That that's like the old Bill Cosby joke where he says, uh,
- 41:19Speaker 4: you know, got Clark Kent mild mannon reporter. He goes
- 41:22Speaker 4: into the goes into the phone booth and starts to
- 41:24Speaker 4: change his clothes, and quickly a cop comes up, and
- 41:28Speaker 4: he's like, can't you see I'm I'm I'm you know,
- 41:29Speaker 4: I'm changing my clumb Superman He's like, didn't you see
- 41:31Speaker 4: the red ass on my chest? He's like, cop goes, yes,
- 41:34Speaker 4: I'll give you a red ass and a black nose
- 41:35Speaker 4: if you don't get out of the phone booth.
- 41:39Speaker 5: Well, oh my, yeah, bad joke.
- 41:42Speaker 4: And and and also it's probably not great to quote
- 41:45Speaker 4: Bill Cosby jokes anymore.
- 41:47Speaker 5: Probably not, probably not anymore funny.
- 41:50Speaker 3: Comedian did a horrible thing.
- 41:53Speaker 5: Right, oh yeah, absolutely allegedly. Yeah, well, convicted of at least.
- 42:01Speaker 3: Yeah, you went to prison somehow got out but uh somehow, yeah, just.
- 42:08Speaker 5: Like Balbkatin somehow he returned.
- 42:10Speaker 4: Yeah, let's keep our voices down about people getting out
- 42:13Speaker 4: of prison.
- 42:13Speaker 1: I don't want certain people getting there.
- 42:16Speaker 3: Yeah, just what he won this week's shut up.
- 42:27Speaker 5: Anything else you wanted to bring up chess biz.
- 42:30Speaker 3: Well, I'm just hoping the rest of the season picks
- 42:34Speaker 3: up a little bit, you know. Yeah, I'm ready for
- 42:36Speaker 3: the finale. I want some I want the villain this season.
- 42:40Speaker 5: You know, I think this is the first episode where
- 42:42Speaker 5: we did not have any of the uh the space
- 42:45Speaker 5: rifts that we had been talking about.
- 42:49Speaker 4: The right, yeah, all right, because Mariner mentioned it. She's like, uh, oh,
- 42:55Speaker 4: we're checking out these things.
- 42:56Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 42:56Speaker 3: Do you think the twos, you know, if they're going
- 42:58Speaker 3: to do space rifts, do you think they're going to
- 43:00Speaker 3: go to the real world like Mariner or somebody into
- 43:04Speaker 3: a TV show?
- 43:05Speaker 5: Maybe?
- 43:07Speaker 3: I think every one of those characters could.
- 43:10Speaker 5: Yeah, I think it's possible. I really do think it's
- 43:13Speaker 5: gonna lead us to that big space battle in the
- 43:15Speaker 5: in the show open, I think that's where we're ending.
- 43:19Speaker 3: I mean I can see Mariner going, I can well,
- 43:22Speaker 3: the Boys is wrapping up, so jack Quaid could because.
- 43:27Speaker 5: Man jack Quade is getting to be such a big
- 43:29Speaker 5: deal now, yeah, like he needs the time in his
- 43:33Speaker 5: schedule to do other stuff.
- 43:35Speaker 1: Is the next season of the Boys the last one, yes.
- 43:38Speaker 5: Of the regular show, but they're still going to do
- 43:40Speaker 5: spin off shows like they're gonna go gen B and
- 43:43Speaker 5: then they're working on the Boys Mexico Boys Mexico.
- 43:47Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, okay.
- 43:50Speaker 5: And then uh and then Jack Quaid is I know
- 43:53Speaker 5: he's the voice of Superman and that My Adventures with
- 43:55Speaker 5: Superman show, okay, yeah, and then he's in it. Just
- 44:02Speaker 5: a ton of movies coming up, so I'm really surprised
- 44:05Speaker 5: Marvel hasn't picked him up for something yet.
- 44:08Speaker 3: Yeah, oh yeah, or DC you know, yeah, James Gunn Now, I.
- 44:14Speaker 5: Feel like he would make a great Booster Gold.
- 44:18Speaker 4: I was gonna say, like, I uh, you know, if
- 44:20Speaker 4: they were gonna do like an older timeline, you know,
- 44:23Speaker 4: a Superman in his forties, he would make a good
- 44:25Speaker 4: Jimmy Olsen.
- 44:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I would say Jimmy Olsen because he's more of
- 44:29Speaker 3: that kind of nerdy type. Yeah right, Yeah, it's funny
- 44:33Speaker 3: because his dad's buff and yeah, you know, he's completely
- 44:38Speaker 3: opposite than his dad than Dennis.
- 44:41Speaker 5: So yeah, that's true, that's true. But there are different
- 44:44Speaker 5: types of actors too, Like he's more comedia than his
- 44:47Speaker 5: dad was.
- 44:48Speaker 1: Yeah, yep, yep, definitely.
- 44:51Speaker 5: So all right, anything else you want to bring up?
- 44:54Speaker 5: Chest Biz? Did he freeze on us? Oh? Are you
- 45:00Speaker 5: frozen us?
- 45:00Speaker 1: He's frozen?
- 45:02Speaker 5: Oh no, yeah, you froze for a bit. Yeah. I
- 45:11Speaker 5: was asking if there's anything else you wanted to bring up,
- 45:13Speaker 5: and you were just silent.
- 45:15Speaker 3: Yeah. Well I just saw all the screens to start
- 45:18Speaker 3: circling and I'm like, oh.
- 45:19Speaker 4: Well, take your silence as a confirmation.
- 45:22Speaker 5: There you go. He pulled the dan.
- 45:30Speaker 3: I don't know how I pulled the dan. I don't
- 45:31Speaker 3: have any internet on I have full speed.
- 45:34Speaker 5: So maybe the dogs are playing video games.
- 45:38Speaker 3: You know, this is the first time that haven't barked.
- 45:40Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, you might want to go check on him.
- 45:42Speaker 5: Yeah, he just means it up to no good. It's
- 45:46Speaker 5: that quiet for that long. They're up to no good.
- 45:48Speaker 1: We need proof of life of the dogs on our Facebook.
- 45:52Speaker 3: Yeah, brought it in the house and put it on
- 45:57Speaker 3: your bed. Oh god, they did that one year that
- 46:04Speaker 3: they brought a bird in there and I was like,
- 46:07Speaker 3: what is this?
- 46:09Speaker 5: Ye, well, they were protecting you from the from the
- 46:11Speaker 5: you know, mechanical birds.
- 46:13Speaker 1: Were the birds food critics.
- 46:18Speaker 5: They were that bad that they became food.
- 46:20Speaker 6: Wow.
- 46:21Speaker 3: They ate manure and didn't realize that instead of birds
- 46:24Speaker 3: were and then they turned the fat birds. I didn't
- 46:30Speaker 3: understand that part, like they were.
- 46:33Speaker 1: Yeah, what was that where they poofed out?
- 46:39Speaker 5: Yeah, my thought was that they had eaten so much
- 46:41Speaker 5: junk food they lost their their taste of food.
- 46:44Speaker 3: Okay, that's so much sodium that they bloated at the end.
- 46:47Speaker 5: Yeah, that's kind of my thought.
- 46:49Speaker 4: Oh, that reminded me of another one liner that was
- 46:51Speaker 4: in the beginning part of the episode where uh, the
- 46:54Speaker 4: the critic hauls off and slaps the doctor and and yeah,
- 46:57Speaker 4: and the captains like, don't do that, and he's like, yes,
- 47:00Speaker 4: I deserve that flapping.
- 47:02Speaker 1: Yeah, that was fun.
- 47:05Speaker 5: That's fun. All right, Well, anything else we want to
- 47:09Speaker 5: bring up before we wrap it up.
- 47:11Speaker 3: That's it, guys, you know, all right, it's like you
- 47:13Speaker 3: guys have fun and yeah, next week we'll have Dan back.
- 47:17Speaker 5: Right, No, there's no show next week.
- 47:19Speaker 3: There's no show next week.
- 47:20Speaker 4: No show next week. Daniel is going to be out
- 47:23Speaker 4: of town. I'm going to be at the Grand Rapids
- 47:25Speaker 4: Comic Con.
- 47:26Speaker 3: So you're doing your dad's birthday next week?
- 47:29Speaker 5: Yeah? Yeah, okay, so just one week then I'll go back.
- 47:33Speaker 3: So I'll tell you two episodes.
- 47:35Speaker 5: Right, yeah, so we'll do two one night when I
- 47:36Speaker 5: get back.
- 47:37Speaker 4: Okay, tell tell Papareas that everybody at Trek cast this
- 47:40Speaker 4: happy birthday.
- 47:42Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, I will seven.
- 47:44Speaker 3: That's a big number.
- 47:46Speaker 5: That's a big number, So it's it's important to go
- 47:48Speaker 5: celebrate that absolutely. Yeah, I'll get some pretty great burritos
- 47:55Speaker 5: and Barbara.
- 47:56Speaker 4: Colla Yeah, oh yeah, that's is that the is that
- 48:02Speaker 4: the dish that you cook in the ground.
- 48:05Speaker 5: You can Okay, yeah, it's it's basically the closest equivalent
- 48:12Speaker 5: is like Mexican pot roast. Okay, it's it's there's easier
- 48:18Speaker 5: ways to make it. Now, I may I make a
- 48:19Speaker 5: version of it just in a crock pot. Oh okay,
- 48:23Speaker 5: because like to do it traditionally, like takes a really
- 48:28Speaker 5: long time in a lot of work, and well you.
- 48:30Speaker 4: Know what I'm like, I'm I'm yeah, I'm not making that.
- 48:32Speaker 6: Up right, no, okay, But but the way I I do,
- 48:37Speaker 6: my brother call it like it's just assembly in the
- 48:40Speaker 6: crockpot and let it go and just ten hours later
- 48:43Speaker 6: it's ready to rock and and.
- 48:45Speaker 5: It tastes pretty much the same. So uh, some uh
- 48:50Speaker 5: chili peppers and a dobo. Yeah, I'll send you guys
- 48:56Speaker 5: my list.
- 48:57Speaker 1: I was just gonna say, would you be willing to
- 48:59Speaker 1: send us.
- 48:59Speaker 5: A Yeah, I'll send you a recipe, okay, Facebook. I
- 49:05Speaker 5: think it's very great. It's very easy to do, like yeah,
- 49:09Speaker 5: and it's so good. It's a little spicy, but it's good.
- 49:14Speaker 1: That's all right.
- 49:15Speaker 4: I like spicy, Okay, all right, all right, my family doesn't,
- 49:19Speaker 4: so I have it all to myself.
- 49:22Speaker 5: So if you're listening to this and you at my
- 49:23Speaker 5: barbacco recipe, join our Facebook group absolutely and you'll see
- 49:28Speaker 5: it there.
- 49:29Speaker 3: Do you guys make Tomali's too?
- 49:32Speaker 5: Yeah, but Tomal's is more like a Christmas thing because
- 49:34Speaker 5: it takes so much work.
- 49:36Speaker 3: Yeah, we did that one year for Christmas. Yeah, Oh
- 49:39Speaker 3: my gosh, I didn't. Really. It's all hard.
- 49:41Speaker 5: Yeah, it's a lot of work. It's yeah, well food cast. Yeah.
- 49:50Speaker 3: After making Tomal's, understand why they charge so much.
- 49:53Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, absolutely, because it's work. Okay.
- 49:57Speaker 4: To bring it back to Star Trek, I've actually made
- 50:00Speaker 4: made a couple of Star Trek dishes.
- 50:02Speaker 1: I've made Hospra.
- 50:04Speaker 5: The majority is yeah.
- 50:06Speaker 4: It's it's basically think of it like pinwheels or it's
- 50:11Speaker 4: it's basically you take some some meat and some some
- 50:15Speaker 4: like watercress or some something spicy. And wrap it up
- 50:18Speaker 4: in a small and thin tortilla.
- 50:20Speaker 1: Okay, at least that was my Human Earth version, right
- 50:24Speaker 1: whatever spiciness, So have you.
- 50:27Speaker 3: Made with the caro syrup and uh where they put
- 50:31Speaker 3: they put food coloring in there.
- 50:34Speaker 1: Right right?
- 50:34Speaker 4: No, I haven't, I haven't, but I've got the I
- 50:38Speaker 4: bought the Star Trek Cookbook. It's co written by Ethan Phillips.
- 50:43Speaker 4: I bought that The Star Trek Experience back in like
- 50:46Speaker 4: two thousand. So I've made a few things. It's it's
- 50:50Speaker 4: a lot of fun. Okay, Yeah, maybe we should do
- 50:54Speaker 4: a show where we do different dishes like Star Trek dishes.
- 50:59Speaker 5: Oh yeah, you know, we should do that after we're
- 51:02Speaker 5: done with the lower decks. Okay, we'll need show ideas,
- 51:05Speaker 5: So I'm going.
- 51:06Speaker 1: To write that down as a show idea. Yeah, food cast.
- 51:11Speaker 5: Yeah, what we should do is like, since you got
- 51:14Speaker 5: the book, we'll have you send us recipes like one
- 51:16Speaker 5: to me, one to Dan. Yeah, we'll try making them
- 51:19Speaker 5: and then we can review what it was.
- 51:20Speaker 1: Like. That's a good idea.
- 51:24Speaker 3: A great British bake off where.
- 51:27Speaker 5: You're the galaxy's best bakeoff.
- 51:29Speaker 1: Yes, there we go.
- 51:31Speaker 3: Yeah, we all make it and then somebody's got to
- 51:34Speaker 3: taste it, and then everybody.
- 51:36Speaker 5: And it was like do it, Okay, we can do it.
- 51:39Speaker 1: Let's I wrote it. I wrote it down.
- 51:42Speaker 5: So all right, all right, the Galaxy's Best bake off.
- 51:44Speaker 5: We'll do it.
- 51:45Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely well.
- 51:48Speaker 5: On that note, we should probably be wrapping it up,
- 51:50Speaker 5: all right.
- 51:51Speaker 1: Thanks chas Biz, Thank.
