Transcript
- 0:08Speaker 1: Shoo, it's time.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Hello, no, welcome to me, naughty but nice. Sha'm your host,
- 0:18Speaker 2: drop shooter, and it is Wednesday, which means our dear
- 0:20Speaker 2: friend Donny Mitcham joins us, Hey, Donnie, are you there?
- 0:24Speaker 3: The level level level Hello? I got a practice being
- 0:28Speaker 3: what uptight today? I got a practice being you know,
- 0:31Speaker 3: a little high brow today. Since it's our girl, mega
- 0:34Speaker 3: mark mega Meghan.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Yesterday she released her entire series. I think it's eight
- 0:41Speaker 2: episodes in all. I watched all of them, and we're
- 0:44Speaker 2: going to get it's today. What time is it, my friends?
- 0:48Speaker 2: It is t time. So first of all, let's talk
- 0:51Speaker 2: about Megan's critical response. So the critics have nice seen this.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Netflix did not send out screeners, which is very telling.
- 0:59Speaker 2: The screen is an advanced copy and often the press
- 1:03Speaker 2: get them early and they can write their reviews, but
- 1:05Speaker 2: embarger them to drop the day the show drops. That
- 1:08Speaker 2: didn't happen. So I think this sort of made critics
- 1:11Speaker 2: a little bit prickly. Am I allowed to say that
- 1:14Speaker 2: that they had to watch all eight episodes in a
- 1:16Speaker 2: day and it's a lot. It's a lot to watch.
- 1:19Speaker 2: I did it. One critic is saying, gets pointless. Another
- 1:23Speaker 2: saying gets joyless, and maybe the harshest is saying it
- 1:27Speaker 2: is an exercise in narcissism. Let me explain eight episodes
- 1:32Speaker 2: series produced by Megan and Harry their Archerworld Productions. It
- 1:36Speaker 2: features the Duchess as she whips up homemade treats and
- 1:40Speaker 2: tales and talks about her her friendships, and also tends
- 1:44Speaker 2: to her garden in Montecito, California. The Guardian, which is
- 1:48Speaker 2: a very fancy British paper, said, I hope this is
- 1:51Speaker 2: the last TV show they do. They've not been that successful,
- 1:55Speaker 2: darning I wanted this one to be really fun. I
- 1:59Speaker 2: watched the other two not so great. Also to Radio Times,
- 2:02Speaker 2: which is a huge outlet in Britain a little softer
- 2:06Speaker 2: but not positive, saying they're trying to reimagine the genre
- 2:11Speaker 2: of the lifestyle programming but they failed. It's pretty much
- 2:14Speaker 2: like every other lifestyle type of show out there. Celebrity friends,
- 2:19Speaker 2: lots of brunches, countless plugs for businesses. The Independent Reporter
- 2:26Speaker 2: in London only gave it one star, saying, oh, it
- 2:29Speaker 2: was exhausting. However, let me give it a robshooter review
- 2:34Speaker 2: and I've been generous. I hope I thought it was
- 2:36Speaker 2: a bit boring, Donnie, and I lost my focus. It
- 2:40Speaker 2: lost my attention within. I gotta admit the first twenty
- 2:45Speaker 2: minutes and I love this stuff. I'm very nosy. I
- 2:47Speaker 2: want to see people's homes. I want to see all
- 2:49Speaker 2: the details. I wasn't into it, Donnie, and I wanted
- 2:53Speaker 2: to enjoy it.
- 2:54Speaker 3: Yes, and now, look, this was the show awful?
- 2:58Speaker 2: No, it was.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Or Meghan, if you're going to do a show, you already,
- 3:04Speaker 1: people already are losing faith in you.
- 3:07Speaker 3: Go out there.
- 3:08Speaker 1: And swing for the dishes. Sweetie, walk in there, camp Camp.
- 3:13Speaker 1: I want to see your closet. You come out in
- 3:15Speaker 1: the craziest oppasion to go. Me and Harry have done
- 3:18Speaker 1: it right there four times. We actually did it this morning,
- 3:21Speaker 1: right there, right before we started filming. That's what it's like, Meghan.
- 3:25Speaker 1: You have nothing left to loose. You're still stuck on this.
- 3:29Speaker 1: You don't want to be a royal, you don't want
- 3:31Speaker 1: to be part of the royal family, but you want
- 3:33Speaker 1: to act in the air.
- 3:35Speaker 3: Of a royal, which is a weird space you're in,
- 3:38Speaker 3: so it's space you're human, act human, Megan. This is so.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Bad and we know from all the reality shows that
- 3:45Speaker 2: we love and hate. You gotta turn the volume up
- 3:48Speaker 2: a little bit. When I think of the Kardashian way,
- 3:50Speaker 2: I think of the Real Housewives, that now is the
- 3:52Speaker 2: gold standards. You might not like those shows, but that's
- 3:55Speaker 2: what you are competing with here, Meghan, So I don't
- 3:58Speaker 2: I don't really know what it was. It wasn't quite
- 4:00Speaker 2: a reality show, but it wasn't a Martha Stuart cooking show,
- 4:03Speaker 2: which I love. I love watching Martha at Lydia's kitchen.
- 4:06Speaker 2: I love all that stuff. I wish Gwenneth did one.
- 4:07Speaker 2: I'd laugh out lad. That's what the problem is, Donnie. Humorous.
- 4:12Speaker 2: There was no fun to it. Even when Meghan insisted
- 4:16Speaker 2: she was having fun with all her friends, I just
- 4:18Speaker 2: didn't believe it. It felt very cautious, very very careful.
- 4:23Speaker 2: It fell to almost as if this was designed by
- 4:27Speaker 2: committee to give you a version of Meghan that she
- 4:31Speaker 2: wants out there, rather than the true version, which, as
- 4:35Speaker 2: we know, Donnie, the most authentic version of yourself is
- 4:39Speaker 2: always the best version you. When you try to be fancy,
- 4:43Speaker 2: when you try to be quality, Donnie doesn't work when
- 4:46Speaker 2: you're trashy and low rent and dirty, donnay, that's when
- 4:51Speaker 2: we love you.
- 4:54Speaker 1: It's I can't but all right, so let's not forget.
- 4:56Speaker 1: So Meghan and Harry signed this Netflix deal a long
- 4:59Speaker 1: time a it was years ago, and Netflix is like
- 5:03Speaker 1: you always something, What do you got, sweetie?
- 5:05Speaker 3: Where can you turn out something?
- 5:06Speaker 1: And she's like, well, I want to do this, this,
- 5:07Speaker 1: this and this, and they're like, fine, all right, let's
- 5:10Speaker 1: do this.
- 5:11Speaker 3: And now they didn't send.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Out the screeners on purpose. You also didn't help yourself
- 5:16Speaker 1: because the critics are upset and they're annoyed that they
- 5:20Speaker 1: now have to sit honest Monday and watch eight episodes
- 5:25Speaker 1: and they're like, oh.
- 5:26Speaker 3: God, I don't want to do it.
- 5:28Speaker 2: This wasn't handled that well with which brings us to
- 5:30Speaker 2: our whole question of the day. Megan Marcus Cooking show
- 5:33Speaker 2: is getting roasted boom boom by the critics. Some are
- 5:36Speaker 2: calling get pointless, joyless? Are they being too harsh? You've
- 5:41Speaker 2: seen some of it, maybe you've watched a few clips
- 5:43Speaker 2: of it. It's not awful, Donny. I'm so glad you
- 5:45Speaker 2: pointed at that. It's not embarrassing. If it was embarrassing,
- 5:48Speaker 2: it'd be great, it'd be delicious TV it'd be like
- 5:51Speaker 2: a Wendy william The shirt, which is so outrageous. Remember
- 5:54Speaker 2: when Wendy was so sloppy and messy. Oh, I couldn't
- 5:56Speaker 2: wait to watch This isn't polished enough to be or
- 6:00Speaker 2: to be Martha Stewart, but it's not messy enough to
- 6:04Speaker 2: be The Housewives or Wendy Williams. It falls between two
- 6:07Speaker 2: stools for me. But what do you think on the
- 6:10Speaker 2: critics being too harsh? Heker votes on our Twitter page
- 6:14Speaker 2: at Notty Nice rob Our facebook page is Naughty Gossip
- 6:17Speaker 2: and Mishua to check back time out Rahwa to hear
- 6:20Speaker 2: your results. We have more Megan news, Donnie. What else
- 6:23Speaker 2: have we found out from this show?
- 6:25Speaker 1: Well, one of the guests who was on the show
- 6:27Speaker 1: was Mindy Kayling, and speaking of I didn't buy her
- 6:31Speaker 1: and Mindy were friends. I didn't buy that they sit
- 6:33Speaker 1: around making jam together and.
- 6:35Speaker 3: They do all this stuff.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Well, apparently people are personally offended that they didn't receive
- 6:42Speaker 1: the same jar of jam didn't get Mindy Kaylink says
- 6:45Speaker 1: she received. So apparently Mindy Kelling. They're talking about this gem,
- 6:50Speaker 1: this homemade preserves jar and Mindy received it, and some
- 6:55Speaker 1: people were like, excuse me, I didn't get it.
- 6:58Speaker 3: I thought I supposed, but you left me out. I
- 7:01Speaker 3: want this terrible jam. I don't care if it's good
- 7:04Speaker 3: or bad. Jim, I want this jam.
- 7:07Speaker 1: And it's just people are sources are saying some people
- 7:10Speaker 1: actually took it really personal.
- 7:13Speaker 2: People the people. Although, Donnie, if you if you launched
- 7:17Speaker 2: a jam collection and you sent it to Delana and
- 7:19Speaker 2: Mark Lupo and Corey and Garrett are not me, I
- 7:22Speaker 2: would notice that. And so I do think, where did
- 7:26Speaker 2: Meghan come up with this list? And in true Megan
- 7:29Speaker 2: Fish fashion, she didn't come up with it. She always
- 7:32Speaker 2: manages to annoy someone. Part of me thinks that I
- 7:35Speaker 2: don't know if Megan finds trouble or if trouble finds her,
- 7:38Speaker 2: but she's always in it. Donnie, she's a loof.
- 7:41Speaker 3: I think that that is Meghan. Hello, level, we know you. Listen,
- 7:44Speaker 3: you're a loof, sweetie. This is what it is.
- 7:46Speaker 1: You just you aren't thinking all the details through. And
- 7:49Speaker 1: that's what let's also not forget. She did change the
- 7:52Speaker 1: name of the company the very last minute to strapped
- 7:54Speaker 1: new labels on all these jams and then ship them
- 7:57Speaker 1: out last minute. We all know the post Office is
- 7:59Speaker 1: going do a little bit of jobber right now.
- 8:01Speaker 3: Blame the post Office, Meghan.
- 8:03Speaker 2: Meghan, that's very clever. Lane, Oh, Darli, that's so. This
- 8:07Speaker 2: is how how shifty, how enterprising, how shady you are?
- 8:13Speaker 2: You know how your bottom dare? I say? Okay, moving
- 8:17Speaker 2: along more Meghan news and Meghan appears to shade the
- 8:20Speaker 2: Royals in her new show. So it's an eight part series.
- 8:24Speaker 2: It's build as a how to guide for entertaining and
- 8:27Speaker 2: it really does mark her return to the spotlight. She
- 8:30Speaker 2: doesn't seem to be holding back, but fans were quick
- 8:33Speaker 2: to dissect her closing remarks in the season finale. I
- 8:37Speaker 2: went all the way to episode eight when she's closing out,
- 8:41Speaker 2: she has a glass raised up in gratitude to her
- 8:45Speaker 2: family and friends, including Prince Harry and her Mommy Dory Ragland,
- 8:50Speaker 2: who is there, and she said the following quote, this
- 8:52Speaker 2: feels like a new chapter. All of that is part
- 8:55Speaker 2: of that creativity that I've missed so much. Well now,
- 9:01Speaker 2: Royal Watches are pointing out that Meghan famously put her
- 9:05Speaker 2: own career on hold after she met up with Prince
- 9:09Speaker 2: Harry in twenty and seventeen, before stepping away from her
- 9:13Speaker 2: royal duties in twenty twenty, So I think we might
- 9:17Speaker 2: be reading into this a little bit. Creativity is something
- 9:20Speaker 2: that a lot of people really enjoy. They find it
- 9:23Speaker 2: really inspiring. So I think we can give her a
- 9:25Speaker 2: little bit of grace here and say that, you know,
- 9:28Speaker 2: coming out with your own show, it's a big deal.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Like it or not. Forget what the critics say. It's
- 9:32Speaker 2: a really big deal. I hope she is proud of it.
- 9:35Speaker 2: I hope this is a new chapter. I'm going to
- 9:38Speaker 2: give her a pass on this on what do you think?
- 9:39Speaker 2: Don't they?
- 9:41Speaker 1: I do everything this woman is doing is driving me crazy.
- 9:44Speaker 1: I want to love her so much. I'm like, Meghan, babe,
- 9:49Speaker 1: what are you? You've just got so.
- 9:51Speaker 3: Many things going on, and it just leading it to
- 9:54Speaker 3: the next story. Apparently she doesn't go by marcle anymore,
- 9:57Speaker 3: and she want you to know she.
- 9:58Speaker 1: Does not go by Mega Mark explained. So Mindy Kaling
- 10:02Speaker 1: is on the episode, and you know, Mindy's like, oh,
- 10:04Speaker 1: Meghan Marko Marko Mark and mark Markle Sparkle, which is
- 10:07Speaker 1: what the company should have been called. And Meghan, now
- 10:09Speaker 1: this is the messiness that I would have wanted the
- 10:11Speaker 1: whole the whole series to be about. Meghan was like, oh,
- 10:15Speaker 1: it's kind of funny that you keep using the name
- 10:17Speaker 1: Meghan Marko.
- 10:19Speaker 3: I'm a Sussex. Just so you know, I'm a.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Sussex and that is perfect because that's throwing shade at everybody,
- 10:28Speaker 1: because you know everybody at the Palace.
- 10:31Speaker 2: Was like, she's a second. She said that she's a
- 10:34Speaker 2: Sussex to correct one of your best friends. Though on
- 10:38Speaker 2: camera I might have said, you know what, let's just
- 10:40Speaker 2: stop filming for a second, mindy, my name is Megan Sussex,
- 10:44Speaker 2: which does sound very odd. But however, if that's what
- 10:47Speaker 2: you want me to call you, I'll call you whatever
- 10:48Speaker 2: you want. So I say, all terrific, thank you. We
- 10:52Speaker 2: would have carried on filming and I would have said
- 10:54Speaker 2: Meghan Sussex. But it was very important to her. Remember
- 10:56Speaker 2: she gets edit approval over this show, and so it's
- 11:00Speaker 2: very important for Meghan to correct her because I think
- 11:03Speaker 2: she wants to correct the world. I think today Meghan
- 11:06Speaker 2: Markel wants to be Meghan Sussex, which is tricky because
- 11:10Speaker 2: she did step away from this family, so why would
- 11:14Speaker 2: she take on this name. It's complicated too, because sometimes
- 11:19Speaker 2: she wants to be called Meghan. Sometimes she wants to
- 11:22Speaker 2: be called the Duchess. And so you've got to figure
- 11:25Speaker 2: out here which lane you want to be. And I
- 11:28Speaker 2: think this going back and forth between wanting to really
- 11:31Speaker 2: be treated like a royal but not being a royal,
- 11:34Speaker 2: or wanting to be a regular, average person. She talks
- 11:37Speaker 2: in one of the episodes about her new friends in
- 11:40Speaker 2: Montecito and they're just moms, they are just normal people,
- 11:44Speaker 2: and she just loves it. But then we see her
- 11:47Speaker 2: in a two thousand dollar cashmere sweather. It's so complicated,
- 11:51Speaker 2: okay movie Along to Meghan has shut down the label influencer,
- 11:57Speaker 2: saying that she is not an influencer. No, no, no,
- 12:01Speaker 2: no no, She's a business woman. So in a new
- 12:03Speaker 2: interview with People magazine that she did to promote the show,
- 12:06Speaker 2: she's out there she wants the show to be a
- 12:07Speaker 2: big hit. She is insisting the quote, I'm an entrepreneur
- 12:12Speaker 2: and a female founder, and if my brand ends up influential,
- 12:17Speaker 2: then that is great. But I am not an influencer, Megan.
- 12:21Speaker 2: That stuff doesn't matter. You've got so much going on,
- 12:25Speaker 2: You've got so many other problems where they call you
- 12:29Speaker 2: an influencer or not, it doesn't matter what it's sort.
- 12:31Speaker 2: There is a little bit of a put down of influencers.
- 12:35Speaker 2: It's like the way that Hollywood movie stars make fun
- 12:38Speaker 2: of reality stars. I think there's a bit of a
- 12:40Speaker 2: put down there. You should be lucky enough to be
- 12:42Speaker 2: an influencer.
- 12:44Speaker 3: These influencers. There's a lot of influencers out there, you
- 12:46Speaker 3: know what there are. There are mommy influencers.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Yes, there are moms out there, working moms who are
- 12:52Speaker 1: making lots of money doing this, and to be.
- 12:55Speaker 3: Honest, they work harder than you do. Sweelie what you say.
- 13:01Speaker 1: But also the most frustrating thing about this entire series
- 13:05Speaker 1: is we didn't even see the house.
- 13:07Speaker 2: Oh, Donnie, you.
- 13:08Speaker 3: Didn't even get to see their house.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Explain, Johnnie, this is a big story.
- 13:11Speaker 1: Everybody's pussing about this so okay cooking show with Megan life,
- 13:18Speaker 1: it's where I do my things. You would expect to
- 13:20Speaker 1: see the house she lives in with Harry. No, it
- 13:23Speaker 1: was a rental. No, she rented.
- 13:26Speaker 2: She didn't film it at home. They rented a house
- 13:29Speaker 2: down the street. Why, Donny, Why is she saying why?
- 13:31Speaker 2: Because she is explaining this, she.
- 13:33Speaker 1: Does explain, She says, she wants to protect her safe haven,
- 13:36Speaker 1: her safe place with her family, and she says there
- 13:39Speaker 1: was a This is what.
- 13:39Speaker 3: Cracks me up. Why is there an eighty plus person cruiser.
- 13:43Speaker 3: Eighty people? You need eighty people to watch?
- 13:46Speaker 2: You make sham?
- 13:49Speaker 1: Everything she says is outrageous because then he makes you think,
- 13:54Speaker 1: is it Netflix that is forcing eightyb The shows line,
- 13:58Speaker 1: which is.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Huge, worked on so many TV shows, Donny. The biggest
- 14:01Speaker 2: show I ever go on is the Today Show or
- 14:03Speaker 2: Good Morning America maybe a crew of like twenty maybe fifteen.
- 14:07Speaker 2: When I had my Morning show, there's a crew of
- 14:09Speaker 2: like about eight. Like Andy Cohen's crew is like five people.
- 14:13Speaker 2: If you go to watch what happens, and it's brilliant,
- 14:15Speaker 2: I'm not putting it down. He's really smart. You want
- 14:17Speaker 2: as few as people as possible because that's as few
- 14:20Speaker 2: salaries you have to pay. If you paid eighty people,
- 14:23Speaker 2: you better be getting twenty million viewers. Like this has
- 14:26Speaker 2: to come in, like Friends, This has to come in
- 14:28Speaker 2: like the super Bowl began. The Real Housewives, which we've
- 14:31Speaker 2: been on a ton of times done and we've gone
- 14:32Speaker 2: to a ton of tapins. They have like about five
- 14:35Speaker 2: cameras running around and maybe like five or six sort
- 14:37Speaker 2: of production producer people, but they're not eighty. Not eighty.
- 14:42Speaker 2: You can't fit eighty into any kitchen, including a rental.
- 14:45Speaker 2: So you didn't want to do it. I'd had more
- 14:47Speaker 2: respect if you just said it. I didn't want to
- 14:49Speaker 2: do it in my kitchen. I didn't want to do it,
- 14:51Speaker 2: So I rented a space and it's like a set.
- 14:53Speaker 2: But if she emits that upfront, then the big question
- 14:57Speaker 2: about how authentic she is is certainly going to be
- 15:00Speaker 2: raised again. And I think that's what the problem is
- 15:03Speaker 2: overall with the show. I didn't hate it. I didn't
- 15:05Speaker 2: love it authenticity. The reason I didn't love it, Donnie,
- 15:07Speaker 2: is I just don't believe it. I didn't believe it.
- 15:10Speaker 2: I think it's going to do a more harm than good. Hey,
- 15:12Speaker 2: we're going to take a quick break here and we
- 15:14Speaker 2: will be back with more gossip in just a moment.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Welcome back to the naughty but nice umber about her
- 15:20Speaker 2: with IDIO friend Donny Meacham. Hey, Donnie, let's get to
- 15:22Speaker 2: the polls. Our only story today that is not about
- 15:24Speaker 2: Mega Markle. So last year we talked about Denimore caught
- 15:28Speaker 2: on camera muttering a single word after she lost the
- 15:30Speaker 2: Oscar nice. Our question, that was the word, she muttered.
- 15:34Speaker 2: My question was quite simple, Should Demi have one? Let's
- 15:38Speaker 2: have a look, oh my big Demi fans here. Eighty
- 15:41Speaker 2: five percent said yes, Demi should have one. Hey, don't
- 15:44Speaker 2: forget to vote on today's poll about the critics and
- 15:47Speaker 2: Megan Markle. You can you can vote on our Twitter
- 15:50Speaker 2: page had Naughty Nice Rob. You can vote on our
- 15:53Speaker 2: Facebook page Nordy Gossip, and be sure to check back
- 15:55Speaker 2: to my brother to hear your results. Hey, Donnie, let's
- 15:58Speaker 2: bey my favorite part of the show. We finally found
- 16:00Speaker 2: one nice thing, docuse, we've been very critical and nicest
- 16:04Speaker 2: Megan moment of the day.
- 16:08Speaker 3: All right, So a lot of people roast in the show.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Two people really liked the show, and that was Little
- 16:14Speaker 1: Archie Can Little Lilla bet who Little Bed could have
- 16:17Speaker 1: taken off her fake leg and threw it.
- 16:19Speaker 3: That would have been real.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Just to clarify, a little bit does not have a
- 16:24Speaker 2: fake leg, but it's a real for the house.
- 16:26Speaker 3: Very fun to throwback for it.
- 16:28Speaker 1: So they gave their mom a beautiful handwritten beautiful which
- 16:32Speaker 1: handwritten she's five five and whatever, we're gonna go with it.
- 16:35Speaker 1: It's a handwritten note from Archie and Lilla Beet, who
- 16:38Speaker 1: is five and three. Fine, congratulations, mama. We love your
- 16:43Speaker 1: show and we love you.
- 16:45Speaker 2: That's cute. We got Yeah, it's beauty. Let's have one
- 16:48Speaker 2: nice moment. Although I don't know if a three year
- 16:50Speaker 2: old mother written we're gonna be nice. I'm nicest the day,
- 16:54Speaker 2: and now I noticed the day. We are the notice
