- 0:15Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome everybody to episode one thirty nine of
- 0:19Speaker 1: Cards and Categories. I am Mike Coolard from Baseball Perspectus,
- 0:22Speaker 1: and I am joined as always by my very good
- 0:25Speaker 1: friend Jeremy Brewer from Rasball. How are you doing tonight, buddy?
- 0:29Speaker 2: Just sign just fine, Ready to go. It's gonna be
- 0:31Speaker 2: a fun episode. Well, all of them are fun episodes,
- 0:33Speaker 2: but I feel in one thirty nine is gonna be
- 0:35Speaker 2: a good, good, good go at it. So I'm ready
- 0:38Speaker 2: excited to talk tonight. There's been a lot of things
- 0:40Speaker 2: going baseball news wise, but we also got some fun
- 0:44Speaker 2: card talk today as well.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah. This is one of the main releases
- 0:47Speaker 1: that we have of the annual baseball card calendar twenty
- 0:51Speaker 1: twenty six. Bowman Baseball has being released and hitting shelves
- 0:54Speaker 1: on May thirteenth, which will probably be when you're listening
- 0:58Speaker 1: to this podcast, unless somehow you're able to hack into
- 1:01Speaker 1: my computer, because I am not editing this thing until
- 1:04Speaker 1: the morning after, as we're recording on Tuesday, May twelfth here,
- 1:09Speaker 1: but that will allow you to have the podcast in
- 1:11Speaker 1: hand if you are out there ripping some Bowman twenty
- 1:15Speaker 1: twenty six product. I think it's going to be a
- 1:17Speaker 1: pretty exciting set. There's lots of fun stuff going on
- 1:21Speaker 1: within the set, and obviously some pitfalls that will kind
- 1:24Speaker 1: of make you aware of so that you're not chasing
- 1:27Speaker 1: your tail out there trying to collect Bowman Chrome and
- 1:30Speaker 1: Bowman Baseball cards out there. So before we get into that, though,
- 1:34Speaker 1: we're going to get into some news and notes, and
- 1:37Speaker 1: if you want to follow along, also click into those
- 1:40Speaker 1: show notes. I'll have links to everything I'm going to
- 1:42Speaker 1: discuss as well as you'll get the link there to
- 1:46Speaker 1: the ras Ball post that goes with the Bowman discussion,
- 1:49Speaker 1: which will be very crucial. I think it's gonna be
- 1:52Speaker 1: one of the longer card postings I've had on there
- 1:54Speaker 1: that lots of fun inserts. So I think I've got
- 1:57Speaker 1: like fifteen cards lined up in the current post. It's
- 1:59Speaker 1: going to be a good one. Also going to be
- 2:02Speaker 1: easy for you to see lots of those cards because
- 2:03Speaker 1: they're already listed on eBay. I'm sure you're already scrolling
- 2:06Speaker 1: through seeing all the different designs that people were not
- 2:10Speaker 1: able to hold back if they got early product on Bowman.
- 2:13Speaker 1: It's been listed almost for two weeks. On some cases,
- 2:17Speaker 1: it's just whether or not you want to get banned
- 2:18Speaker 1: by eBay and tops if you're especially have the ability
- 2:22Speaker 1: to sell actual wax. Okay, well let's get into it
- 2:25Speaker 1: Brew because we've got some fun call ups, we've got
- 2:28Speaker 1: some injuries. But let's start first in San Francisco because
- 2:32Speaker 1: things have really unraveled since we last met last week.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Not only have we seen them make some roster moves,
- 2:40Speaker 1: we've had the Giants trade out Patrick Bailey to the
- 2:43Speaker 1: Guardians for Matt Wilkinson in a first round pick cop
- 2:46Speaker 1: pick later in the first round. So that will be
- 2:49Speaker 1: an interesting kind of trade going forward. Honestly, not too
- 2:53Speaker 1: much from a fancy perspective, unless you're in an A
- 2:55Speaker 1: only league. Haza, you got another catcher into your pool.
- 2:58Speaker 1: Matt Wilkinson will be a fascinating arm to watch for
- 3:02Speaker 1: the Giants. Mister Tugboat is one of my favorites to watch,
- 3:06Speaker 1: and I hope that he gets the opportunity soon. But
- 3:09Speaker 1: also an interesting trade for the Giants to make to
- 3:12Speaker 1: trade your starting catcher for an arm like Tugboat Wilkinson,
- 3:17Speaker 1: who you know was developed by Cleveland and didn't have
- 3:20Speaker 1: a lot of draft pedigree. But I went into this
- 3:22Speaker 1: a little bit of my recent Baseball Prospective article about
- 3:25Speaker 1: building a watch list where the Giants have no depth,
- 3:28Speaker 1: and it's been a little bit of a failing of
- 3:30Speaker 1: Buster Posey to fill in with a lot of like
- 3:33Speaker 1: the quad A type arms that they used to develop
- 3:36Speaker 1: in San Francisco, which has made them not a great
- 3:38Speaker 1: fantasy target for streaming. On top of that, all Logan
- 3:42Speaker 1: web goes on the il. We've got a demotion of
- 3:45Speaker 1: their closer straight to Triple A, who's also going down Gregorysantos.
- 3:48Speaker 1: We've also run into Tony Vittello not knowing how to
- 3:52Speaker 1: run a bullpen. This is I don't know if you've
- 3:54Speaker 1: gotten to see this clip. I was, but he makes
- 3:57Speaker 1: a call to the bullpen, and Jesse Chavez, who's their
- 4:00Speaker 1: bullpen coach, who might be pitching for the Giants by
- 4:03Speaker 1: this season at this pace, is just has no clue
- 4:07Speaker 1: who Vittello is trying to ask for Between the two Ridy's. Eventually,
- 4:10Speaker 1: Willia Damas has to make the call so that somebody
- 4:13Speaker 1: can come out of the bullpen for the Giants in
- 4:15Speaker 1: the move, and Vittello just is fumbling over himself one
- 4:20Speaker 1: foot after another. Doesn't seem to be able to control
- 4:23Speaker 1: this team. And then on top of it all, it's
- 4:25Speaker 1: one of the worst teams ever when it comes to walks.
- 4:29Speaker 1: That Alexander Whitley cover this at Baseball Perspective to day
- 4:33Speaker 1: in the box score banter that it's a bunch of
- 4:36Speaker 1: dead Ball era teams that walked as little as as
- 4:39Speaker 1: much as this San Francisco Giants team does in comparison
- 4:43Speaker 1: to the league. So she used it by plus stats,
- 4:45Speaker 1: and the Giants are on a list with teams that
- 4:49Speaker 1: don't even sound like teams. They just sound like cities.
- 4:53Speaker 1: And it's like made up squads that are trying to
- 4:56Speaker 1: avoid naming rights, trademark violations and stuff like that in
- 5:01Speaker 1: video games. So things have really really unraveled in San Francisco.
- 5:06Speaker 1: They are now seventeen and twenty four, one game above
- 5:09Speaker 1: the Colorado Rockies and the NL West. Things are sinking
- 5:12Speaker 1: pretty quickly. And then I'm also bringing this up because
- 5:16Speaker 1: we've discussed over the past couple weeks where I've been
- 5:18Speaker 1: off to a couple of bad starts in a few leagues.
- 5:20Speaker 1: I can pretty squarely blame the San Francisco Giants, I
- 5:23Speaker 1: think because of I mean I have if you look
- 5:26Speaker 1: at those teams. They're peppered with Matt Chapman and Wilyadamas
- 5:30Speaker 1: and Harrison Bader and Logan Webb some of these guys.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Raphael dever Is on a couple of them too. Where
- 5:36Speaker 1: you know, the draft price fell a little bit and
- 5:39Speaker 1: I liked it, and I just wanted somebody who I
- 5:41Speaker 1: could plug in and play every day. Well, they're gonna
- 5:44Speaker 1: hit like Willia Damas and Matt Chapman this year, actually
- 5:47Speaker 1: pretty big. Hindrance sit there and they're playing every day.
- 5:49Speaker 1: So what do you make of these San Francisco Giants?
- 5:52Speaker 1: How do you navigate this from a fantasy perspective? And
- 5:55Speaker 1: how do you see this all kind of coming together
- 5:58Speaker 1: under Buster posey if it ever does.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I I'm I'm kind of perplexed to
- 6:04Speaker 2: a degree of how bad they've been. And I mean
- 6:07Speaker 2: they they are last in stolen bases, they're last in runs,
- 6:12Speaker 2: they're second to last by one in home runs, they're
- 6:15Speaker 2: second to last in war And that's like them in
- 6:21Speaker 2: the mix of like the Rockies the Mets, like that's
- 6:26Speaker 2: it's just not a good area to be in. I mean, honestly,
- 6:31Speaker 2: they're so like the rock the Mets and the Giants
- 6:35Speaker 2: are so far behind the packs with run scoring things
- 6:37Speaker 2: like that. It's just it's just unbelievable. And I still
- 6:41Speaker 2: look at a guy like Raffie Devers and you know,
- 6:43Speaker 2: even Harrison Bader Alio Rome Ramos, like these guys are
- 6:48Speaker 2: still good players. It's just that they're not putting together
- 6:52Speaker 2: also they and I have to I give Posey some
- 6:56Speaker 2: credit for like moving on from Bailey. I think actually
- 6:58Speaker 2: getting a first round pick for the g I am getting,
- 7:02Speaker 2: you know, a opportunity for Hazes Rodriguez to come up
- 7:06Speaker 2: and stuff like that. I'm not mad about that, but
- 7:08Speaker 2: you are trading one of the best fielding catchers, uh
- 7:11Speaker 2: in the in the majors, and and Bailey, but beyond that,
- 7:16Speaker 2: in the aggressive moves, they like, what kind of team
- 7:19Speaker 2: are you building? Like if you look at the team
- 7:21Speaker 2: you're putting on the on the the diming here, it
- 7:24Speaker 2: is kind of like the the old like athletics from
- 7:26Speaker 2: the Moneyball movies, right, it's the misfit kids. It's like
- 7:31Speaker 2: Louis a Riaz like is like your best hitter and
- 7:36Speaker 2: we've we've covered him enough this podcast, Like you have
- 7:39Speaker 2: like your number two hitter is like Matt Chapman, who's
- 7:42Speaker 2: just really a good third baseman and not what he
- 7:44Speaker 2: used to be a cast off in Roffie Devers, Like
- 7:48Speaker 2: it's it's like you you've just cobbled these guys together,
- 7:50Speaker 2: and their skill sets don't seem to be complimentary, and
- 7:53Speaker 2: they're all on the wrong side of the aging curve.
- 7:57Speaker 2: It's it's just not a recipe for six, Like there
- 8:00Speaker 2: is a teardown that has to be done here in
- 8:02Speaker 2: San Francisco. And I think they thought they were gonna
- 8:05Speaker 2: be good this year and they're not. And then you bring,
- 8:10Speaker 2: you know, Vattello into this, and I think you and
- 8:12Speaker 2: I both were really excited to see what's gonna happen
- 8:14Speaker 2: with him coming in from the college ranks, like he
- 8:16Speaker 2: was gonna take no bs from anybody. He was gonna
- 8:19Speaker 2: tell how it is. I think that's exactly what he's done,
- 8:21Speaker 2: and he's been wrong a lot of times, and I
- 8:24Speaker 2: think that's really I think he's lost that clubhouse. I
- 8:27Speaker 2: don't things are not going well in San Francisco in general,
- 8:31Speaker 2: and I don't see a turnaround. And honestly, I'm avoiding
- 8:34Speaker 2: almost all players in the Giants at this point just
- 8:37Speaker 2: because the environment there does not seem to breed success.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I think that's all very very fair
- 8:45Speaker 1: and on top of it too, like it's gonna be
- 8:48Speaker 1: fascinating as we move forward with the Giants, because they
- 8:51Speaker 1: do have some pretty good baths and I've been interested
- 8:54Speaker 1: in from Dynasty keeper perspective, between Josseuire de Jesus Gonzalez
- 8:59Speaker 1: and Johnny Level has been looking really good. They've really
- 9:02Speaker 1: been starting to put things together with some development in
- 9:05Speaker 1: some players, like just especially the outfield like Bo Davidson,
- 9:11Speaker 1: and especially now that they have Wilkinson too. There's a
- 9:14Speaker 1: lot of interesting players coming through the system. I just
- 9:17Speaker 1: don't know if I can trust Buster Posey to get
- 9:19Speaker 1: the best out of them. That I think this is
- 9:22Speaker 1: a job that is a little bit too over Buster
- 9:25Speaker 1: Posey's head. I think we've seen that with the bet
- 9:28Speaker 1: Patrick Bailey move that is just an odd and confounding move.
- 9:31Speaker 1: And the inability to just build the depth. Like I
- 9:34Speaker 1: said that that's what winning teams do. Look at what
- 9:37Speaker 1: the Dodgers do that you know, when Blake Snell went down,
- 9:41Speaker 1: they had somebody ready to go. When Tyler Glasnell went
- 9:43Speaker 1: down this week, not even a worry once they had
- 9:47Speaker 1: Mooie bets even go down. Nothing has gone awry with
- 9:51Speaker 1: the Dodgers, even though Otanian stuff isn't hitting, like it's
- 9:55Speaker 1: pretty easy. I would think that, like the Giants are
- 9:58Speaker 1: actually also on the West coast. Can watch all these
- 10:00Speaker 1: Dodgers games that I can't, and you should hopefully learn
- 10:04Speaker 1: from them. It doesn't seem that there's anything but a
- 10:07Speaker 1: bunch of stubborn folks in San Francisco right now, between Posey,
- 10:10Speaker 1: between Vitello and Yeah, it's gonna be really tough to
- 10:15Speaker 1: trust them. Things are. If you thought things are rough,
- 10:17Speaker 1: they're Also they don't play a home game until Thursday,
- 10:21Speaker 1: the twenty first they have. They're at LA this weekend
- 10:25Speaker 1: or this week to start, then going to Sacramento and
- 10:28Speaker 1: then going to Arizona. So it's not like super far
- 10:31Speaker 1: off East Coast road tips, but like just when things
- 10:34Speaker 1: are getting tough sledding for the Giants, now they're on
- 10:37Speaker 1: this large road trip as well. So yeah, I think
- 10:40Speaker 1: I'm with you that, Like it's gonna be tough to
- 10:42Speaker 1: trust them, it's gonna also be tough to trust the
- 10:46Speaker 1: projections on a lot of these players too, where some
- 10:49Speaker 1: of the performances, especially from Devers and Damas and Chapman
- 10:53Speaker 1: start this season, have already eroded the projections going forward.
- 10:56Speaker 1: But just be aware that, I think, even and as
- 11:00Speaker 1: we get further along the season, and kind of keep
- 11:02Speaker 1: it in the back of your head when we get
- 11:03Speaker 1: into draft season next year that because they're gonna also
- 11:06Speaker 1: rely on historical performance from those players, we might not
- 11:10Speaker 1: see bounce backs to those historical performances as these players
- 11:14Speaker 1: get older and the organization devolves around them.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Yeah. I think you're right. I think this is going
- 11:19Speaker 2: to be a learning case study in what not to
- 11:23Speaker 2: do in building an organization here. So it's gonna be
- 11:27Speaker 2: interesting to see if they commit to a strategy. And
- 11:31Speaker 2: I guess the good news is we know Posey's going
- 11:33Speaker 2: to be aggressive what he needs to. It's just the
- 11:35Speaker 2: question of whether he's going to commit to the right
- 11:36Speaker 2: strategy here.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean the other thing to consider is it's
- 11:40Speaker 1: going to be hard to get Posey out of that
- 11:43Speaker 1: seat because he has an ownership piece. So yeah, that's
- 11:46Speaker 1: gonna be fascinating because that rubber is going to have
- 11:48Speaker 1: to hit the road eventually at some point where you've
- 11:50Speaker 1: got to start questioning whether or not. Posey's actually outfitted
- 11:54Speaker 1: to run the team from a baseball operations perspective, where
- 11:59Speaker 1: I think what he actually would have been much better
- 12:01Speaker 1: as a manager. But I think he didn't want to
- 12:03Speaker 1: go through the rigorma role of all the travel. That's
- 12:06Speaker 1: why he retired, you know, to be with his family.
- 12:08Speaker 1: And I thought this would be a good in between spot.
- 12:10Speaker 1: And I don't know if it's necessarily the best leveraging
- 12:13Speaker 1: of Buster posy skills.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Ultimately, I don't think so. And unfortunately, when they do
- 12:19Speaker 2: look to sell, there's not a lot of pieces to
- 12:21Speaker 2: sell on this team, and so it's it's gonna be
- 12:24Speaker 2: a multi year year effort here. And to your point,
- 12:27Speaker 2: they've they've got to commit and give It's either you
- 12:30Speaker 2: Posy's got to move on now or they got to
- 12:32Speaker 2: commit to a three year project with them, And I
- 12:35Speaker 2: think they'll give him the run. To your point, he's
- 12:37Speaker 2: got the dealership ship. There's a lot of reasons that
- 12:40Speaker 2: they're not going to put him there and then pull
- 12:41Speaker 2: them out. That'd be you know, the icon of that team,
- 12:46Speaker 2: and to then discard him so quickly would really put
- 12:49Speaker 2: a stain on kind of that relationship. And so I
- 12:52Speaker 2: don't think that'll happen. But yep, San Francisco is gonna
- 12:56Speaker 2: be entertaining. That's all I can say.
- 12:58Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a nice way to put. Okay, well, let's
- 13:01Speaker 1: get into some more fun news because since we talked
- 13:04Speaker 1: last week, honestly, we've had way more promotions than kind
- 13:07Speaker 1: of fun news as opposed to the injury news that
- 13:10Speaker 1: has been dragging us down over the past couple weeks.
- 13:12Speaker 1: So let's focus on those. First one, we got a
- 13:15Speaker 1: big one. Starting pitcher Robbie Snelling for the Miami Marlins
- 13:18Speaker 1: came up this past week and the debut was shaky.
- 13:21Speaker 1: I mean it's to be expected. I think that you
- 13:24Speaker 1: can't you can't have all these guys kind of come
- 13:27Speaker 1: out of the gates, especially just given the nerves of starting,
- 13:31Speaker 1: and it was, you know, his first time ever being up.
- 13:33Speaker 1: You got to win that where that MLB debut patch
- 13:36Speaker 1: that I'm sure really throws off the kinetic chain, the
- 13:40Speaker 1: edition of that extra patch. And so he put up
- 13:44Speaker 1: five innings, allowing three earned runs with four walks in
- 13:49Speaker 1: two k's in that debut. But overall, the package, the
- 13:52Speaker 1: arsenal that looked good. It pointed a lot more towards
- 13:56Speaker 1: the guy who he was in Tripa before the promotion
- 13:58Speaker 1: one eighty six Era two ninety six FIP over twenty
- 14:01Speaker 1: nine innings and it came with a crazy twenty six
- 14:05Speaker 1: point four K minus bb not because the walks were miscule,
- 14:10Speaker 1: but because it was a forty K rate. So I
- 14:12Speaker 1: think you're looking at a sharper Noah Schultz here, a
- 14:15Speaker 1: little bit more developed Noah Schultz, and a guy who's
- 14:18Speaker 1: been doing it in triple A a little bit longer
- 14:21Speaker 1: in Snelling because he was great last year or two.
- 14:23Speaker 1: So what's your take on Robbie Snelling in Miami? And
- 14:28Speaker 1: we've already kind of gone through the fab bidding process
- 14:30Speaker 1: on him slash like he was owned in a bunch
- 14:32Speaker 1: of leagues. So yeah, is it a guy maybe you
- 14:34Speaker 1: would pursue in a trade.
- 14:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I really like Robbie Snelling. You know,
- 14:40Speaker 2: his debut was a little mixed, but yeah, he gave
- 14:42Speaker 2: up those three runs in the first heating and he
- 14:45Speaker 2: stuck with it, went tooreless. The other four strikeos didn't
- 14:49Speaker 2: show up quite you know, the walks were definitely a concern,
- 14:53Speaker 2: but over all in all, he looked like a major leaguer.
- 14:56Speaker 2: That's what you're you're looking to see in the debut.
- 14:59Speaker 2: The only red lag here we have as the walk
- 15:01Speaker 2: rate is is he going to keep that? And that's
- 15:03Speaker 2: throughout his career what's kind of held him back at
- 15:05Speaker 2: times also been a guy that's a little bit slower
- 15:08Speaker 2: start as far as at every level he's gone to,
- 15:11Speaker 2: it's taken. There's been like an adjustment period, but once
- 15:13Speaker 2: he's figured it out, he's lights out. And so I
- 15:16Speaker 2: think this guy's limit for Abbie Stelling. I think he's
- 15:18Speaker 2: a number two long term. I really, I really think
- 15:22Speaker 2: highly of him as far as this year and like
- 15:26Speaker 2: what to do from an acquiring perspective, I don't think
- 15:30Speaker 2: he's the kind of guy that you want to go
- 15:32Speaker 2: chase right now because I do think there's gonna be
- 15:34Speaker 2: an adjustment period. I do think the walks are gonna
- 15:36Speaker 2: be a little bit of struggle as he figures things
- 15:38Speaker 2: out and he kind of figures out the zone of
- 15:40Speaker 2: the major league level and how hitters actually control that
- 15:44Speaker 2: versus what he sees in the miners. I think there's
- 15:46Speaker 2: gonna be an adjustment period for sure, but he's gonna
- 15:49Speaker 2: get the strikeouts. He's you know he's gonna he's kind
- 15:52Speaker 2: of a little bit of a workhorse. He can't go
- 15:54Speaker 2: deep into games. They didn't let him do it a
- 15:56Speaker 2: ton of the miners, but there's a good reason for that.
- 15:58Speaker 2: They were saving that arm. So again, we've got a
- 16:01Speaker 2: guy that I like your Noah Schultz comp Maybe not
- 16:04Speaker 2: from a bodybuild perspective. He's six three to two ten.
- 16:07Speaker 2: He's a little bit stronger of a dude than the
- 16:09Speaker 2: lanky Schultz, but I think he's a more refined version,
- 16:13Speaker 2: So I like him for this year. I'm very happy
- 16:16Speaker 2: to have him on my team. I'm probably not going
- 16:17Speaker 2: to go chasing him because there is a degree of
- 16:20Speaker 2: risk that he's going to take a little bit of
- 16:22Speaker 2: adjustment period. But overall, Robbie Snelly, especially from a diynasty perspective,
- 16:27Speaker 2: I'm very much two feet up.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, I think I'm right there with you. Next
- 16:31Speaker 1: call up we had was in Arizona, where outfielder Ryan
- 16:34Speaker 1: Waldschmidt was promoted and to make room for him, the
- 16:38Speaker 1: Diamondbacks dfad Alec Thomas, who was subsequently dealt to the Dodgers.
- 16:42Speaker 1: So that shows you how big of a move it
- 16:45Speaker 1: had to be for the Diamondbacks to move on from
- 16:47Speaker 1: Thomas that like there were teams that wind him and honestly,
- 16:51Speaker 1: he's going to fit right into a platoon, back up,
- 16:53Speaker 1: fourth outfielder role there for the Dodgers. And it's probably
- 16:58Speaker 1: my bite Arizona in the butt time or two over
- 17:00Speaker 1: the rest of the season, It's true, but that does
- 17:03Speaker 1: show the faith that they have in Waldshmidt and also
- 17:05Speaker 1: like the glove will play I think in center for
- 17:09Speaker 1: Walschmidt for the rest of the year. Who is coming
- 17:11Speaker 1: off of a performance in Triple A of a one
- 17:13Speaker 1: to sixteen WRC plus is a two eighty nine four
- 17:16Speaker 1: hundred four to seventy seven slash line with three homers,
- 17:19Speaker 1: six dolen bases, twenty four point four percent k rate,
- 17:23Speaker 1: twelve point two percent walk rate in his one hundred
- 17:26Speaker 1: and fifty six plate appearances before being promoted. He's twenty
- 17:29Speaker 1: three years old, and the nice thing I like about
- 17:32Speaker 1: his profile too is he's walked at every level at
- 17:35Speaker 1: a double digit clip, so he has a pretty good eye,
- 17:39Speaker 1: pretty good understanding of the zone. The question is actually
- 17:43Speaker 1: a little bit like how much pop can he get
- 17:47Speaker 1: in the bat because you look at the prospects of
- 17:50Speaker 1: vant profile. It's not exactly the most glowing that even
- 17:53Speaker 1: though you know you've got a barrel percentage rate that
- 17:56Speaker 1: is on the sixty eighth percentile. It's sixty eighth percentile
- 17:59Speaker 1: for Triple A at seven seven point eight percent against
- 18:02Speaker 1: triple A pitching, So probably gonna run a below average
- 18:06Speaker 1: barrel rate, but can make up for it with the speed.
- 18:09Speaker 1: This is a guy who stole twenty nine total bases
- 18:12Speaker 1: in one hundred and thirty four games across two levels
- 18:16Speaker 1: of the miners last year. So certainly a lot of intrigue.
- 18:20Speaker 1: I know somebody that you've been into. So what do
- 18:22Speaker 1: you think about Ryan Walshchmi getting his opportunity to debut
- 18:26Speaker 1: in Arizona?
- 18:27Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I think the summer in Walshman is
- 18:29Speaker 2: he's just a really, really good ballplayer. He's not gonna
- 18:33Speaker 2: steal you a ton of bases. He's gonna probably hit
- 18:35Speaker 2: double digits and steals. He's not the most efficient. He's
- 18:38Speaker 2: not gonna probably sock twenty five homers. He's probably that
- 18:41Speaker 2: fifteen to twenty range. He's not gonna hit to thirty
- 18:44Speaker 2: two forty. He's probably in that to seventy to two
- 18:46Speaker 2: eighty range. He h he's gonna get on base a
- 18:49Speaker 2: pretty good clip. He's gonna maybe get on basis with
- 18:51Speaker 2: three eighty three seventy five clips somewhere in there. Like
- 18:54Speaker 2: he's gonna do all the things really, really well. He's
- 18:56Speaker 2: not gonna hurt you anywhere from a fantasy perspective. And
- 19:00Speaker 2: there's something to be said that guy that's a little
- 19:02Speaker 2: above average and just everything that that plays that is
- 19:06Speaker 2: a number three outfielder creeps into number two at times
- 19:10Speaker 2: as well. And so I don't look at the projections
- 19:13Speaker 2: for the rest of the season and I am. I'm
- 19:15Speaker 2: actually perplexed to a degree on them. They're giving him
- 19:17Speaker 2: more speed and less power, and like a two forty average,
- 19:21Speaker 2: like this is a guy that's gonna I'd be shocked
- 19:23Speaker 2: if he hits two sixty even with the adjustment this season.
- 19:28Speaker 2: I think he's probably gonna pop ten homers the rest
- 19:30Speaker 2: of the season, steal ten ten bags. I think that's
- 19:33Speaker 2: what he can absolutely do. And the Diamondbacks are giving
- 19:38Speaker 2: him the run. They gave him enough time in the miners.
- 19:40Speaker 2: Uh may played a little service time game here and there,
- 19:43Speaker 2: and then they've committed to him. They've they like I said,
- 19:46Speaker 2: they made the Alex Thomas trade, and they they want
- 19:50Speaker 2: him to succeed, and there's very little in this profile
- 19:52Speaker 2: that says he's not gonna succeed. Is he gonna turn
- 19:55Speaker 2: into an All Star, printial All Star? I'm not sure
- 19:59Speaker 2: he's gonna. I think he's the kind of guy that
- 20:01Speaker 2: appears in one or two All Star Games when things
- 20:03Speaker 2: work out. But I think he will grow into little
- 20:06Speaker 2: bit more power as he ages here. Already has actually
- 20:10Speaker 2: a strong fly ball rate and line drive rate, which
- 20:12Speaker 2: is going to actually play that. So if he gets
- 20:15Speaker 2: a season where things kind of just the wind blows
- 20:17Speaker 2: out a little bit, you know things, things could really
- 20:19Speaker 2: pop off for him. So I really like Walt Shmidt
- 20:21Speaker 2: of probably all the call ups, and I'm just spoiling
- 20:24Speaker 2: the question you might ask later. He's the guy I
- 20:26Speaker 2: would take an invest in, But I think he's gonna
- 20:29Speaker 2: kind of fly a little under the radar just be
- 20:31Speaker 2: in Arizona.
- 20:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's all fair, And especially the kind
- 20:34Speaker 1: of less than out of this world performance in Triple
- 20:39Speaker 1: A before he got called up actually reminds me a
- 20:42Speaker 1: lot of like an Aj Pollock, another Arizona guy where yep,
- 20:45Speaker 1: I think at peak he's probably like a twenty forty guy,
- 20:48Speaker 1: but it's going to take him a few years to
- 20:50Speaker 1: get there. So I think if you're looking rest of
- 20:53Speaker 1: the season twenty twenty six, I think Waldschmant's more of
- 20:55Speaker 1: like a fifth outfielder probably, but yeah, at peak he
- 20:58Speaker 1: can carry you at a one, two three position and
- 21:02Speaker 1: he'll pop a couple of like all star seasons, like
- 21:04Speaker 1: you said, so certainly in a dynasty keeper situation, great
- 21:08Speaker 1: up arrow for wald Shmit, and you like to see
- 21:11Speaker 1: somebody like this where the glove plays that like, let
- 21:14Speaker 1: him marinate the rest of the way at the major
- 21:16Speaker 1: league level for the rest of the season, because if
- 21:18Speaker 1: he can get that opportunity and take his bumps, now
- 21:20Speaker 1: much bigger opportunity for Waldschmitt in twenty twenty seven, I think, yep, okay,
- 21:26Speaker 1: next promotion we have comes with an injury. So Jason
- 21:29Speaker 1: Diminguez for the New York Yankees ran into a wall
- 21:32Speaker 1: of a Tein league fence in left field and on
- 21:35Speaker 1: the first play of a game last week and had
- 21:37Speaker 1: to be carted off, thankfully only in ac spring. Nothing
- 21:42Speaker 1: super serious. Gonna take a little bit of time on
- 21:45Speaker 1: the shelf, but a little bit of a disappointment as well,
- 21:47Speaker 1: because that was Demingus's kind of like great opportunity to
- 21:52Speaker 1: secure a job for the rest of the season. Now
- 21:54Speaker 1: that job is being taken for the time being by
- 21:57Speaker 1: Spencer Jones, Who's gonna get a little bit of time
- 21:59Speaker 1: or I mean and maybe unlimited time if he performs
- 22:02Speaker 1: left field, could be his going forward for the rest
- 22:05Speaker 1: of the season. But before getting called up at Triple A,
- 22:08Speaker 1: it was a one forty two worst plus with a
- 22:10Speaker 1: two fifty eight three sixty six five ninety two slash line,
- 22:14Speaker 1: eleven homers and seven stall bases, which is all fine
- 22:17Speaker 1: in dandy, but thirty two point four percent strikeout rate.
- 22:21Speaker 1: That's the biggest question here with Jones is whether or
- 22:24Speaker 1: not he can get the strikeout rate within a reasonable
- 22:27Speaker 1: range to be able to play major league baseball because
- 22:30Speaker 1: everything else about the profile will play that like. He's
- 22:33Speaker 1: a he's a fine defender, especially in a corner. He's
- 22:37Speaker 1: got speed, he's got patience, and he's got otherworldly power.
- 22:41Speaker 1: He has a weird stance too. I didn't realize what
- 22:44Speaker 1: it was until I saw him with his debut, but
- 22:47Speaker 1: it's I wonder if they change that. I mean, the
- 22:49Speaker 1: Yankees have had him since twenty twenty two, but you
- 22:52Speaker 1: wonder if they'll tweak it even further where it's crouched,
- 22:55Speaker 1: which is strange for six foot seven dude. You would
- 22:58Speaker 1: think that they would stand him more straight up the
- 23:00Speaker 1: way Aaron Judge is. But if that's what they're gonna
- 23:03Speaker 1: work with for Spencer Jones, I guess that's what they're
- 23:05Speaker 1: gonna work with. So would you foresee Jones doing with
- 23:08Speaker 1: this opportunity? And is there anything maybe specifically in the
- 23:13Speaker 1: profile from like a savant level or like a zone
- 23:19Speaker 1: percentage level or something that you're looking for And you say, hey,
- 23:22Speaker 1: if Spencer Jones can do this with this opportunity, I'm
- 23:26Speaker 1: in on the Spencer Jones experience, even if the strikeouts
- 23:29Speaker 1: are always going to be there.
- 23:31Speaker 2: Yeah, So you asked, is there anything I expect from Sincer
- 23:35Speaker 2: Jones's opportunity? I was. I was gonna say strikeouts, whifts,
- 23:40Speaker 2: was my honest answer when he got called up, because
- 23:43Speaker 2: I mean, that's that's who those guy is. He has
- 23:46Speaker 2: that extremely volatile profile of anything he hits, he clobbers
- 23:51Speaker 2: if he hits it, and that's a big, big if
- 23:56Speaker 2: because he doesn't doesn't hit it that often. And I
- 24:00Speaker 2: think that's the question. You know, he sees a lot
- 24:05Speaker 2: of saw a lot of fastballs in the miners and
- 24:09Speaker 2: handle them okay. But I think that's my question is
- 24:12Speaker 2: can he handle the velocity at the major league level?
- 24:16Speaker 2: And then also, you know, how is he going to
- 24:20Speaker 2: do from a I would say pull power perspective. So
- 24:25Speaker 2: in the in the miners, he was an all field
- 24:28Speaker 2: spray hitter, and he, like I said, he also saw
- 24:30Speaker 2: a lot of fastballs, seemed to struggle to a degree
- 24:33Speaker 2: with the upper velocity. He kind of he's the guy
- 24:37Speaker 2: to feast on mistake breaking balls. That's the kind of
- 24:40Speaker 2: guy this is. And if you're already spray into all
- 24:44Speaker 2: fields and you're struggling in velocity and you're the strikeout rate,
- 24:48Speaker 2: really this is like the Murakami argument, and preseason that
- 24:52Speaker 2: was completely wrong. I didn't make the argument to be
- 24:55Speaker 2: very fair, but many people did. Is if if you
- 24:59Speaker 2: can't hit the high heat, you can't survive. And that's
- 25:02Speaker 2: my my worry with Spencer Jones. And so that's what
- 25:05Speaker 2: I'm gonna be watching for here is is he able
- 25:07Speaker 2: to handle the fastball? The league's gonna know that that's
- 25:10Speaker 2: his achilles heel. They're gonna attack him high and in
- 25:13Speaker 2: with the hard heat, and is he gonna be able
- 25:15Speaker 2: to do that or is he going to strike out?
- 25:18Speaker 2: And I think it's a very very volatile profile to
- 25:21Speaker 2: your point. When he hits it, it's gonna fly, he's
- 25:24Speaker 2: gonna run. He plays a good d like all those things.
- 25:28Speaker 2: It's like it's almost like a weird Adam done esque profile,
- 25:31Speaker 2: except for you can play defense.
- 25:33Speaker 1: I mean it's the gallow profile essentially.
- 25:35Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, I mean everybody I want to bring Adam
- 25:38Speaker 2: Dune into everything.
- 25:39Speaker 1: But Gallo actually like played pretty good defense, like one
- 25:43Speaker 1: a gold glove.
- 25:44Speaker 2: Yeah exactly. So again I don't really honestly have big
- 25:48Speaker 2: high hopes for him. Again, I think he's more getting
- 25:50Speaker 2: this kind of spot start, if you may, and the
- 25:53Speaker 2: other thing I look at. If this was really that
- 25:55Speaker 2: other worldly talent so they rely on, he would have
- 25:59Speaker 2: been ahead of the mingas in the.
- 26:01Speaker 1: Pecking orders too.
- 26:03Speaker 2: Yeah, and so he wasn't getting that first chance. He's
- 26:07Speaker 2: twenty five, Like they've let him marinate a lot, and
- 26:11Speaker 2: so I think that says something that they're not quite
- 26:14Speaker 2: confident he's gonna be able to survive, but now's the
- 26:17Speaker 2: time give him a shot when the injuries mounted up,
- 26:19Speaker 2: and if he does great, they're gonna lean into it.
- 26:22Speaker 2: But I have a feeling he's gonna struggle.
- 26:24Speaker 1: Yeah, And I mean honestly, if he's like enough, like
- 26:28Speaker 1: good enough to handle it and maybe not be a star.
- 26:32Speaker 1: I think it also just opens it up for the
- 26:34Speaker 1: Yankees to be able to trade him for something at
- 26:38Speaker 1: the deadline, because it strikes me a little bit more
- 26:40Speaker 1: too of his like a second division starter sort of
- 26:42Speaker 1: player where you know, especially like if you can go
- 26:46Speaker 1: to a second division team like maybe the Giants anywhere
- 26:50Speaker 1: and like slug forty five homers but hit two ten,
- 26:54Speaker 1: like you can use him to sell tickets and maybe
- 26:57Speaker 1: get him into a home run derby and stuff, you
- 26:58Speaker 1: know what I mean. Yeah, where like people will want
- 27:00Speaker 1: to spincher Jones jersey and collect it's his gear. But like, yeah,
- 27:04Speaker 1: that kind of strikes me as the profile that I
- 27:06Speaker 1: see in Jones. But it is also I think, compared
- 27:10Speaker 1: to all everyone we're alse we're talking about. I mean,
- 27:12Speaker 1: the ceiling is also crazy, but this is hitting the
- 27:16Speaker 1: ceiling are pretty slim, I think compared to some of
- 27:20Speaker 1: the other guys, just because like we haven't seen that
- 27:23Speaker 1: strikeout rate really be developed the way that you would
- 27:28Speaker 1: expect if he was an otherworldly talent.
- 27:31Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I'm right there with you. So this was
- 27:34Speaker 2: a risky play. Feel free to play and the deep
- 27:36Speaker 2: end if you want, I'm gonna I'm gonna stay the
- 27:38Speaker 2: kid pool over here.
- 27:39Speaker 1: Yeah. It makes it difficult in fantasy too to add
- 27:42Speaker 1: him in season, because like, whenever you're taking a guy
- 27:44Speaker 1: like this in a draft, you can take a Luisa
- 27:48Speaker 1: Rise or something where it like makes up for the
- 27:51Speaker 1: batting average on the back end. But you can't do
- 27:54Speaker 1: that now. So if you're already struggling with batting average
- 27:57Speaker 1: and you're chasing a little bit of the counting SATs,
- 28:00Speaker 1: it's not It could be really risky and sink you
- 28:03Speaker 1: pretty quickly. So something else to keep in mind. Okay,
- 28:06Speaker 1: let's go to the other side of New York where
- 28:09Speaker 1: the Mets have also called up a prospect. Aj Ewing
- 28:12Speaker 1: has been promoted to play center field for them every day.
- 28:15Speaker 1: And this is a little bit more of like a
- 28:17Speaker 1: last gasp effort from the Mets to light any fire
- 28:21Speaker 1: underneath this team, But it also opens up a pretty
- 28:24Speaker 1: good opportunity for Ewing, who was a comp Round four
- 28:28Speaker 1: pick in twenty twenty three, and so this was an
- 28:34Speaker 1: interesting profile. It's say, coming through the miners last year
- 28:37Speaker 1: swiped seventy bases across a couple of minor league levels
- 28:41Speaker 1: three minor league levels. He went through A High A
- 28:43Speaker 1: and Double A. This year Double A, Triple A and
- 28:47Speaker 1: put up seventeen stone bases in thirty games of a
- 28:49Speaker 1: three thirty nine, four forty seven, five fourteen slash line.
- 28:53Speaker 1: That was a one fifty six WRC plus across the
- 28:56Speaker 1: two levels, but all of the damage really happened at
- 28:59Speaker 1: Double A, and it was only a one eighteen WRC
- 29:01Speaker 1: plus at Triple A, but it was his first taste
- 29:04Speaker 1: there twelve games as a twenty one year old, so
- 29:07Speaker 1: super young. I like this profile too, where it's a
- 29:10Speaker 1: lot like Walshman, I think too, where if he plays fine,
- 29:14Speaker 1: aj Ewing should get an everyday spot in New York
- 29:19Speaker 1: with the Mets all the way through the rest of
- 29:21Speaker 1: the season. But it is a less exciting profile than Welshman.
- 29:25Speaker 1: I think this is more of like a T. J.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Friedel when you're looking at long term, but you do
- 29:30Speaker 1: have to like that he made it to the majors
- 29:32Speaker 1: at twenty one and can develop if you've got him
- 29:33Speaker 1: in dynasty keeper situation. So what do you think about
- 29:36Speaker 1: you in the rest of the season and really especially
- 29:39Speaker 1: down into the future a couple of years down the road.
- 29:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean this just has like Chandler Simpson vibes
- 29:46Speaker 2: for me, Like this whole profile. I think he's got
- 29:49Speaker 2: a little more pop than Simpson, but it hasn't translated
- 29:53Speaker 2: to home runs. And you know, I don't think he's
- 29:58Speaker 2: gonna be a huge home runt hitter across his career,
- 30:01Speaker 2: but I think he's a guy that can grow into that.
- 30:04Speaker 2: I mean, he's still listed his five ten, one sixty.
- 30:07Speaker 2: He's not a big guy, but he tends to hit
- 30:11Speaker 2: the ball hard, but he's more of a gap power
- 30:14Speaker 2: type of guy. So I think he's going to be
- 30:16Speaker 2: long term. Like let's project out like five years in
- 30:19Speaker 2: his prime, I could see him load double digits of homers.
- 30:23Speaker 2: He could he could be hitting maybe even three hundred
- 30:26Speaker 2: and ninety something like that, and it stealing in ridiculous
- 30:30Speaker 2: number of bases. So I think from a fantasy perspective,
- 30:33Speaker 2: that's actually really really attractive and could be very valuable
- 30:37Speaker 2: what does he do this year. I think I worry
- 30:39Speaker 2: he's gonna be a little overmatched. I think he's he's
- 30:42Speaker 2: being rushed. I think the Mets are grassman at Straws.
- 30:45Speaker 2: I would have liked to see him take a little
- 30:47Speaker 2: bit more time in the minors. But he's he's held
- 30:49Speaker 2: his own like he's he's walking as much as he
- 30:51Speaker 2: strikes out. He's he's stealing bases like it's no big deal.
- 30:56Speaker 2: He's hitting for a good average, like it's fine to
- 30:59Speaker 2: give him that run. See what happens. I just think
- 31:01Speaker 2: it's he's pushed a little early for my liking. But
- 31:06Speaker 2: I like I think he's a great dart throw because
- 31:09Speaker 2: you'll know pretty quickly. I think with this profile, if
- 31:12Speaker 2: he's overmatched, if you see the strikeouts, jump walk, great
- 31:15Speaker 2: drop and he's not getting on base and he used
- 31:17Speaker 2: that speed, I'd move on. But I think there's a
- 31:22Speaker 2: I'll get a thirty percent chance that this looks really,
- 31:25Speaker 2: really good in the season, because he started to get
- 31:28Speaker 2: on base, he started to run, and he poked a
- 31:30Speaker 2: few long balls. Yep.
- 31:32Speaker 1: I think that's all very fair. Well, I mean, all
- 31:35Speaker 1: these other outfielders were coming up in the Athletics were like,
- 31:38Speaker 1: we want to get on this action, so they called
- 31:40Speaker 1: up Henry Bolte this week two and he is currently
- 31:45Speaker 1: kind of mired in a short side platoon role according
- 31:48Speaker 1: to roster resource battling with Kolby Thomas there. And I
- 31:53Speaker 1: mean part of it is just because of Carlos Cortes's
- 31:56Speaker 1: breakout has been keeping those guys down. But it's been
- 32:00Speaker 1: starting to back up on Corptez really this past week,
- 32:03Speaker 1: especially where the flaws are starting to come through, and
- 32:06Speaker 1: so there, I think there is going to open a
- 32:08Speaker 1: larger opportunity for Bolta going forward. He was at Triple
- 32:12Speaker 1: A for the second time as he returned for thirty
- 32:16Speaker 1: seven incredible games to begin this season with a three
- 32:19Speaker 1: forty eight, four eighteen six fifty eight slash lines of
- 32:22Speaker 1: one to fifty seven WRC plus put up twelve homers
- 32:25Speaker 1: and seventeen stolen bases in those thirty seven games. Uh,
- 32:29Speaker 1: that is the magic of the PCL as well. So
- 32:32Speaker 1: like that's a little bit of the bacon there is
- 32:34Speaker 1: that it's a great offensive environment to hit in. But
- 32:37Speaker 1: still that's a great line in a lot of great
- 32:41Speaker 1: production from Henry Bolta before coming up here. Uh, he
- 32:46Speaker 1: does struggle with strikeouts, but it was he really lowered
- 32:50Speaker 1: the whiff at Triple A this season, where twenty two
- 32:54Speaker 1: percent k rate, the chase rate was in the seventieth
- 32:58Speaker 1: percentile for Triple A as opposed to for Jones it
- 33:01Speaker 1: was all the way down the fourth percentile before his
- 33:03Speaker 1: call up. So there have been a couple of steps
- 33:06Speaker 1: forward here for Bolta as well. Twenty two years old,
- 33:09Speaker 1: turns twenty three in August, a twenty twenty two second
- 33:13Speaker 1: round pick. What do you think about this profile profile
- 33:16Speaker 1: for Bote?
- 33:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I think it's a really interesting profile.
- 33:19Speaker 2: Like I want to be careful to not to overlean
- 33:22Speaker 2: into the power. Like he's he's a good hitter, He's
- 33:25Speaker 2: not a thirty home run hitter like by any means.
- 33:28Speaker 2: Like in the minors he was in the eightieth ninety
- 33:33Speaker 2: percent leial for exit velocities, slugging, he was kind of
- 33:36Speaker 2: the in the middle to you know, maybe three quarters
- 33:39Speaker 2: as far as hard hit rates, barrel rates, things like that.
- 33:42Speaker 2: He has incredible speed. This guy is fast. And if
- 33:45Speaker 2: you look at and we've talked about on this podcast before,
- 33:48Speaker 2: if you're evaluating myor league speed, you want to look
- 33:51Speaker 2: at the success rate this guy over the last few years.
- 33:56Speaker 2: He's got caught stealing twice this year and twice last
- 34:00Speaker 2: and he's managed to get a believe sixty one steals
- 34:05Speaker 2: during that time, so that's pretty good. He is blazing fast.
- 34:09Speaker 2: So I think this is a guy that's a little
- 34:11Speaker 2: bit more like Aha Ewing than people realize, but maybe
- 34:13Speaker 2: a little bit more mature, a little bit a little
- 34:16Speaker 2: more seasoning type of approach, and to your point, like
- 34:19Speaker 2: I want to see him handle those case but he
- 34:21Speaker 2: seems like he's actually kind of figures on that out
- 34:23Speaker 2: a little bit more maturity this year. So I really
- 34:26Speaker 2: like this profile again the power. He got twelve homers
- 34:29Speaker 2: and thirty seven games this year. The thing I want
- 34:32Speaker 2: to call out here is this is a guy that
- 34:34Speaker 2: has a fifty eight percent ground ball rate in the
- 34:37Speaker 2: minor leagues and somehow has twelve home runs. That's because
- 34:40Speaker 2: we has a fly ball that's going out of the
- 34:41Speaker 2: park almost half the time. That is not sustainable. Aaron
- 34:45Speaker 2: Judge can't do that. And so when you play in
- 34:49Speaker 2: the mountains all the time of the PCL, yes, I
- 34:52Speaker 2: guess that is the only place that sustainable. And so
- 34:54Speaker 2: it's not even sustainable and Sacramento where we're going to
- 34:56Speaker 2: playing with athletics, and so I think, in a real word,
- 35:00Speaker 2: if you are evaluating this line, cut that home run
- 35:04Speaker 2: rate in probably half and looking at the guy that
- 35:07Speaker 2: is in the minors here got off to a good start,
- 35:10Speaker 2: has hit six formers install a seventeen basis hitting three
- 35:13Speaker 2: forty eight. Again, that's why I'm looking more like the
- 35:14Speaker 2: ewing profile with little extra power and a more refined
- 35:18Speaker 2: approach is probably going to handle the majors better. I
- 35:20Speaker 2: still like Bultay here. I think he's gonna play well,
- 35:23Speaker 2: and I think he's worth adding to your team like
- 35:26Speaker 2: he's he seems like he's on a heater, Like there's
- 35:29Speaker 2: not a reason not to not add into your team.
- 35:31Speaker 2: And see that where this goes. Actually, all three of
- 35:34Speaker 2: these outfits I've talked about, actually I'm really intrigued by.
- 35:38Speaker 2: But I think he's one of those that isn't gonna
- 35:41Speaker 2: be a big power bat. I see double digit power,
- 35:44Speaker 2: but probably teens with probably thirty to forty stolen base upside,
- 35:49Speaker 2: if not a little bit more.
- 35:51Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think that's all very fair, and I
- 35:54Speaker 1: mean it will be I think we'll be fascinating to
- 35:56Speaker 1: watch Bullta compared probably to the rest of them, because
- 36:00Speaker 1: it is an easy thing to kind of track, is
- 36:02Speaker 1: that if he can keep the k rate in line,
- 36:06Speaker 1: can keep the whiffs down and copy what he was
- 36:10Speaker 1: showing in Triple A in terms of that plate discipline
- 36:13Speaker 1: to the big leagues, then you're starting to look at
- 36:16Speaker 1: a much more special player where it starts to become
- 36:19Speaker 1: a little bit more like prime like Corey Hart, kind
- 36:23Speaker 1: of like where you're looking at somebody who pushes like a.
- 36:26Speaker 1: He even looks like Corey Hart, Yeah, he does. Cory
- 36:29Speaker 1: Hart was a big dude sixty six. I forgot about that,
- 36:32Speaker 1: But I mean Botha is also bigger compared to wald
- 36:35Speaker 1: Schmidt and Ewing and not as big as Jones only
- 36:38Speaker 1: Marin Judges. So Botha is six foot three, so he's
- 36:42Speaker 1: got a little bit of like that extra layer of athleticism.
- 36:46Speaker 1: So there is a chance out of the four that
- 36:48Speaker 1: he could be the one that becomes the best long term.
- 36:52Speaker 1: But we have to see it stick in a longer
- 36:55Speaker 1: sample size than what he showed at Triple A. And
- 36:59Speaker 1: it doesn't help that the athletics are showing their hand
- 37:01Speaker 1: a little bit by not necessarily giving him full run
- 37:04Speaker 1: of a role right now. But like I said, I
- 37:06Speaker 1: think that can change pretty quickly because Carlos Cortes, the
- 37:11Speaker 1: hot run is drying up the way it has with
- 37:13Speaker 1: Oldamaro Vargas and others that we've seen become April babies.
- 37:18Speaker 2: I would not be surprised him end up in a
- 37:20Speaker 2: full run pretty quickly here, Like I think it's gonna happen.
- 37:25Speaker 2: So if you were to rank you got these four outfielders,
- 37:27Speaker 2: put them in order. For me, I'm curious as far
- 37:30Speaker 2: as this season, what's your prioritization these four? What would
- 37:34Speaker 2: be if you if you had to rank them, what
- 37:36Speaker 2: would you do?
- 37:38Speaker 1: I think it goes Walt Schmidt, bolt A, Jones, Ewing
- 37:42Speaker 1: for me, you.
- 37:44Speaker 2: I would only I'd flip Jones and Ewing. I just
- 37:47Speaker 2: I don't think Jones. I don't think he's going to
- 37:49Speaker 2: be up long enough. And I just I think he's
- 37:51Speaker 2: going to strike out literally half the time.
- 37:53Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I get it. I mean part of it too,
- 37:55Speaker 1: is like if there's one thing that also gives me
- 37:58Speaker 1: like a little bit of the glimmer of hope where
- 38:00Speaker 1: you can tell yourself the story of development for Jones,
- 38:02Speaker 1: is that you've got the other largest man in Major
- 38:05Speaker 1: League Baseball in that dugout with you, who struggled with
- 38:08Speaker 1: some of the things that Jones has in terms of
- 38:11Speaker 1: the hole with this swing. So maybe there's something he
- 38:14Speaker 1: can glean from Aaron Judge. But plus like, yeah, just
- 38:18Speaker 1: the ceiling, the ceiling factor is what gives it to me.
- 38:20Speaker 1: Over Youwing where ewing. There's a handful more of guys
- 38:25Speaker 1: like Youing. They're going to be coming up the rest
- 38:27Speaker 1: of the season.
- 38:28Speaker 2: That's fair, But we're we're arguing about three and four.
- 38:30Speaker 2: It's pretty Yeah, exactly, I'm not neither one of those
- 38:33Speaker 2: guys is the guys that like. I think both of
- 38:35Speaker 2: those the guys that you'd love to throw on the
- 38:37Speaker 2: back your roster and see what happens for bulta invulgement.
- 38:40Speaker 2: I think you're both guys that you can grab and
- 38:42Speaker 2: put into your lineups and utilize.
- 38:45Speaker 1: Yep, I totally agree. And I think actually all the
- 38:48Speaker 1: like bidding from NFBC and TGFBI and stuff that's happened
- 38:52Speaker 1: over the weekend has shown exactly what we're talking about.
- 38:55Speaker 1: So that all lines up. Okay, Well, we've got a
- 38:59Speaker 1: few injuries to talk about, so I didn't grab all
- 39:02Speaker 1: of them. That kind of happened this week. I focused
- 39:04Speaker 1: on some of the big ones to talk about the
- 39:05Speaker 1: larger stories. First one is mostly to maybe bit a
- 39:09Speaker 1: do forever to Carlos Correa, who went down with a
- 39:13Speaker 1: left ankle injury where I don't know if we ever
- 39:16Speaker 1: got the full details, but it seemed like a really
- 39:18Speaker 1: bad high ankle sprain where just like shredded some tendons,
- 39:23Speaker 1: underwent surgery, and then is now out for the season.
- 39:26Speaker 1: So it is wrapping up his first full season back
- 39:30Speaker 1: in Houston with a two seventy nine three sixty nine,
- 39:33Speaker 1: four to eighteen slash line with three homers thirty two games.
- 39:37Speaker 1: So I mean, he was pretty solid for where you
- 39:39Speaker 1: drafted him, but obviously this was one of the bigger
- 39:42Speaker 1: risks that you had when taking Carlos Korea. Hopefully didn't
- 39:45Speaker 1: hurt too much in terms of draft capital, but you
- 39:49Speaker 1: never know. And at the end of the day, he
- 39:51Speaker 1: is going to be thirty two at the end of season.
- 39:54Speaker 1: He's on the hook for the Astros until the end
- 39:58Speaker 1: of twenty twenty eight. Said hit five hundred five plate
- 40:01Speaker 1: appearances in twenty twenty eight to get a twenty twenty
- 40:04Speaker 1: nine vesting option. What do you think the chances Carl's
- 40:07Speaker 1: Korea can trigger that vesting option in twenty twenty eight
- 40:09Speaker 1: at this pace?
- 40:10Speaker 2: He said five hundred and seventy five. Yes, he's done
- 40:13Speaker 2: at once in his career. It was twenty sixteen. That's nuts.
- 40:17Speaker 2: I mean he he was a plate appearances or a
- 40:21Speaker 2: plate appearances Oh yeah, okay, R so he did that.
- 40:23Speaker 2: I was looking at bats at bats plate appearances, like
- 40:26Speaker 2: he's done that a number of time. I'm still gonna say,
- 40:28Speaker 2: I'm gonna take the under on it. I just this
- 40:32Speaker 2: is a guy breaking down. Are we bidding a dude
- 40:35Speaker 2: to Korea? No? Like this feels like the Korea every
- 40:38Speaker 2: five year type of thing right now, where like he
- 40:40Speaker 2: battles injuries for a few years and then's out for
- 40:42Speaker 2: a year, then kind of recovers and then battles of
- 40:45Speaker 2: injuries and outtra Like we're so this is just a cycle.
- 40:48Speaker 2: At the same time, like, I don't I feel like
- 40:51Speaker 2: Korea has almost gotten like such a bad name for
- 40:54Speaker 2: guy that's actually still kind of produced, but he's just
- 40:57Speaker 2: the injuries have just stacked up like this. I mean,
- 41:00Speaker 2: this was a guy that was the first overall, I'll
- 41:05Speaker 2: pick in the draft, and I mean he's got over
- 41:09Speaker 2: two hundred career home runs, two seventy five average, thirteen
- 41:12Speaker 2: hundred hits. He's been a very successful player. There's there's
- 41:16Speaker 2: nothing there but like, Yed, is this the beginning to end?
- 41:18Speaker 2: Maybe not quite that, but he's not gonna be a
- 41:21Speaker 2: guy I'm investing in any time in the distant or
- 41:24Speaker 2: near future.
- 41:26Speaker 1: Yep. I think that is all very fair. So I
- 41:30Speaker 1: would have us maybe do a summary of the Astros
- 41:33Speaker 1: the way that we did with the Giants, but we
- 41:36Speaker 1: kind of have little piece by pieces that's been happening
- 41:38Speaker 1: this season. But if there's one team that's down worse
- 41:42Speaker 1: than the San Francisco Giants, it is the the Houston
- 41:45Speaker 1: Astros because yikes, yikes, yikes, yikes. I don't know if
- 41:49Speaker 1: you've been watching many altwov At bats recently, but dude
- 41:52Speaker 1: looks cooked that like might not even get to his
- 41:55Speaker 1: three thousand hits.
- 41:57Speaker 2: I mean, if you would have said that the Mets,
- 42:00Speaker 2: the Astros, and the Giants were all gonna just be
- 42:03Speaker 2: absolute disasters this year, I would have liked, I mean,
- 42:07Speaker 2: that's hopeful thinking type of thing, because I mean those
- 42:10Speaker 2: are I mean maybe the Giants to degree, but like
- 42:13Speaker 2: the Astros are a pretty hated franchise at times, Mets
- 42:16Speaker 2: aren't necessarily a loved franchise. And the Giants, I mean,
- 42:19Speaker 2: they got they They're a little bit more middle of
- 42:22Speaker 2: the road from a overall fan base perspective. But like,
- 42:25Speaker 2: if you were telling me those three were just gonna
- 42:27Speaker 2: be hot messes all year, I would I'm not quite
- 42:30Speaker 2: sure I buy that, but that's definitely what it's been.
- 42:33Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, you want to talk about hot messes, Let's
- 42:36Speaker 1: talk about this next injury. We're talking Kansas City southpaw
- 42:41Speaker 1: Cole Reagan's, who is going on to the injured list
- 42:45Speaker 1: with pictures elbow which just sore elbow, general body soreness.
- 42:53Speaker 1: Where I was worried about Cole Reagan's coming into the
- 42:57Speaker 1: season that like this was not somebody who all the
- 43:01Speaker 1: projections were fantastic and like there was a route that
- 43:04Speaker 1: you could talk yourself into making him your number one
- 43:07Speaker 1: fantasy starter and kind of rolling with the punches there,
- 43:10Speaker 1: but certainly had battled with injuries last season. This year,
- 43:14Speaker 1: We've got the elbow now, but he was also battling
- 43:17Speaker 1: a little bit of like a hand issue because he
- 43:19Speaker 1: took a comebacker out the hand and it's been very
- 43:22Speaker 1: up and down forty four era with a six twenty
- 43:25Speaker 1: fifth over thirty five and a third innings. The biggest
- 43:28Speaker 1: issue is that the walks have ballooned up to part
- 43:31Speaker 1: of because of that comebacker issue I talked about, but
- 43:34Speaker 1: don't know exactly what role. The elbow was playing a
- 43:37Speaker 1: fifteen point two percent walk rate, which was by far
- 43:41Speaker 1: a career high. This is a guy who when we
- 43:44Speaker 1: did our Ale Central preview, Marty our guest Marty Tallman,
- 43:49Speaker 1: did sell him and I didn't push back because this
- 43:52Speaker 1: was part of the reason I wasn't into Reagans, and
- 43:55Speaker 1: also I hated Carlos Estebez a lot more from self perspective.
- 43:59Speaker 1: So we did nail that one, but I think everybody nailed.
- 44:01Speaker 1: I don't know who on earth was out there drafting
- 44:03Speaker 1: girl system is, but he was going off the board.
- 44:08Speaker 1: This is not great for Cole Reagan's who if you're
- 44:11Speaker 1: not familiar with the injury history too, has already gone
- 44:14Speaker 1: through to Tommy John surgeries at the age of twenty
- 44:16Speaker 1: eight and worked his way back. That's part of the
- 44:19Speaker 1: reason why the Rangers moved him to the Royals. Is
- 44:21Speaker 1: that the injury history and the number of scars on
- 44:25Speaker 1: that left arm are many and lengthy for Cole Reagans.
- 44:29Speaker 1: So what do you make of this situation for Cole
- 44:31Speaker 1: Reagan's going forward? I know he's long been a favorite
- 44:34Speaker 1: of yours. I know you have no problems buying injured pitchers,
- 44:38Speaker 1: But lots of kind of bad flags being planted here
- 44:42Speaker 1: on Cole Reagan's. What's your take?
- 44:44Speaker 2: Yeah? And I have nothing against the skill set, yeah,
- 44:46Speaker 2: walks of an issue this year. You know, Luck's not
- 44:48Speaker 2: been on the side number of things, Like, nothing against
- 44:51Speaker 2: the skill set here, but this I was thinking about
- 44:55Speaker 2: who this reminds me of from a career ARC perspective,
- 44:58Speaker 2: And I went back a little bit in this one,
- 45:00Speaker 2: And if if you recall Chris Medlin of the Braves,
- 45:04Speaker 2: do you remember Chris Medlin the Greatest?
- 45:07Speaker 1: Didn't recall?
- 45:08Speaker 2: But like, but if if you think through that career
- 45:11Speaker 2: ARC is a guy that kind of was. Is he
- 45:13Speaker 2: going to be a reliever? Is he going to be
- 45:15Speaker 2: a starter? Is he going to figure things out and
- 45:17Speaker 2: then became a really useful starter, but then battled like injuries,
- 45:21Speaker 2: then he's back and useful again, then injuries, and then
- 45:23Speaker 2: all of a sudden he's out of the league by
- 45:24Speaker 2: time he's like thirty two. Like that, that was the
- 45:27Speaker 2: Medlin arc, And if I'm looking at Reagan's not a
- 45:30Speaker 2: getting not the profile of the pitcher, because Medline was
- 45:33Speaker 2: more of a a control artist kind of ground ball
- 45:36Speaker 2: kind of guy, where Reagan's is a strikeout, flyball kind
- 45:39Speaker 2: of guy, a completely different profile. But that feels like
- 45:42Speaker 2: what we're dealing with here is a guy that he's
- 45:44Speaker 2: got all the talent in the world, but like that
- 45:46Speaker 2: arm just doesn't want to stay attached. And I I'm
- 45:50Speaker 2: not quite out yet because I want to see this one.
- 45:54Speaker 2: Like Reagan's even said it feels different, it doesn't. It
- 45:56Speaker 2: doesn't feel like the same type of injury, So it
- 45:58Speaker 2: feels like a little bit more I always want to
- 46:01Speaker 2: throw at the dead arm type of scenario. I know
- 46:03Speaker 2: it's not what they said it was, but like, it
- 46:05Speaker 2: feels kind of like that, And We've had a lot
- 46:07Speaker 2: of that this year with guys, and so I'm given
- 46:12Speaker 2: the benefit of doubt just because there's nothing else you
- 46:14Speaker 2: can do with them, especially a guy that owns multiple
- 46:16Speaker 2: shares of Reagans. You have to just kind of write
- 46:18Speaker 2: it out because the talent is there. But I think
- 46:22Speaker 2: at this point, even if he comes back, he kind
- 46:24Speaker 2: of see a few starts before you really invest back,
- 46:27Speaker 2: because if the velocity drips something like that, then yeah,
- 46:32Speaker 2: this might be kind of the beginning of the end
- 46:35Speaker 2: for cold Reagans. And that is so disappointing for how
- 46:38Speaker 2: gosh turn talented this guy is.
- 46:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, part of it is that, like he
- 46:43Speaker 1: always felt like a guy who was always pushing towards
- 46:45Speaker 1: his max all the time, and so it's kind of
- 46:49Speaker 1: I think that's what you see in this profile as
- 46:53Speaker 1: well as why we see so many other pictures kind
- 46:56Speaker 1: of succumb to it as well, because they need to
- 46:58Speaker 1: be pushing at that max effort be able to keep
- 47:01Speaker 1: up with the league, and so it just will break
- 47:03Speaker 1: you down. So yeah, I am extremely concerned about Cole
- 47:07Speaker 1: Reagan's somebody who I mean, if he does come back
- 47:10Speaker 1: and gets a couple of decent starts on his belt
- 47:12Speaker 1: and you can garner some fantasy trade interest, I would
- 47:16Speaker 1: certainly be open to it and trying to move out
- 47:19Speaker 1: from what wherever I've got Reagan's at, because I think
- 47:24Speaker 1: it is it's just very very risky, and even with
- 47:29Speaker 1: him being only twenty eight, some others might see the
- 47:32Speaker 1: ability for him to still kind of have a couple
- 47:34Speaker 1: of years left in that arm, but it's just it
- 47:37Speaker 1: feels like a ticking time bomb with Cole Reagan's and
- 47:40Speaker 1: the next and third Timmy John surgery, which will really
- 47:43Speaker 1: push him into like it's only been Drew Rasmussen that's
- 47:47Speaker 1: kind of made it through the end and seeing the
- 47:49Speaker 1: light at the tunnel of that sort of trajectory. So
- 47:52Speaker 1: it's not an easy road forward if Reagans has significant
- 47:55Speaker 1: injury here Okay, next one, maybe not the most significant
- 48:00Speaker 1: injury to talk about from a fantasy perspective, but will
- 48:03Speaker 1: be interesting to see how the Chicago Cubs handle going
- 48:06Speaker 1: without Matt Boyd here for about six weeks, who towards
- 48:10Speaker 1: meniscus playing with his kids, so that I think that's
- 48:14Speaker 1: just a more reminder maybe just you got to go
- 48:18Speaker 1: no family time if you're a baseball player. Just focus
- 48:21Speaker 1: on the ball, baby, That's what I want. But it's
- 48:26Speaker 1: it should be a relatively straightforward meniscus surgery and recovery
- 48:30Speaker 1: for Matt Boyd, but again with knees, knees can get
- 48:34Speaker 1: dicey for pictures real fast. We've seen him with Michael Kopek,
- 48:37Speaker 1: We've seen him with a couple others over the past
- 48:39Speaker 1: few years. We're seeing now with Logan Web and so
- 48:42Speaker 1: just be careful going forward with Matthew Boyd, especially because
- 48:45Speaker 1: it's been a little bit of a disappointing season. Cubs
- 48:48Speaker 1: are off to a fantastic start, but I don't know
- 48:51Speaker 1: how many more hits they can keep taking to the
- 48:52Speaker 1: rotation because another thing that covered in that piece where
- 48:56Speaker 1: I noticed the Giants have no death, I think the
- 48:58Speaker 1: Giants have no death. The Cubs have zero, zero, zero
- 49:02Speaker 1: depth in that system where they've already repromoted Ben Brown
- 49:06Speaker 1: back to the rotation, which was something when I wrote
- 49:09Speaker 1: that piece, it was like in between the injury time
- 49:12Speaker 1: for matt Boyd and I had no I didn't think
- 49:16Speaker 1: that the Cubs were going to be bringing Ben Brown,
- 49:18Speaker 1: who had turned himself into a good reliever, back to
- 49:20Speaker 1: the rotation. But they're so desperate for arms, that's that's
- 49:24Speaker 1: what they're doing.
- 49:24Speaker 2: So what do you think about.
- 49:26Speaker 1: Boy going forward and any other injuries that you've had,
- 49:30Speaker 1: maybe as a father that you can relate to and
- 49:34Speaker 1: really tie into major leaguers. They're just like us.
- 49:38Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I mean that I think as a father,
- 49:40Speaker 2: the knee injury sounds like the like prototypical one, like
- 49:44Speaker 2: getting down up and down the floor, like some point
- 49:46Speaker 2: you just feel old and you don't know how that happens,
- 49:49Speaker 2: and that or your kids drop something on you, through
- 49:52Speaker 2: hits you something like been there many many times. So
- 49:55Speaker 2: it is a dangerous hazard of the job. But yeah,
- 49:59Speaker 2: Matthew Boyd is actually an interesting one because his numbers
- 50:03Speaker 2: were dreadful, but he's actually playing a lot better than
- 50:08Speaker 2: what the numbers say. Like this, the guy had a
- 50:09Speaker 2: FIP of two thirty seven. You know, he was the
- 50:13Speaker 2: control was great, the strikeouts were up, like his his
- 50:17Speaker 2: fastball is struggling little bit, but they kind of dropped
- 50:21Speaker 2: it or they lean into a little bit more. But
- 50:23Speaker 2: then we need to change a little bit more. So
- 50:25Speaker 2: it seems like something's working. And I'm not quite sure
- 50:29Speaker 2: what that comes down to. Velosity's not really increased or anything,
- 50:33Speaker 2: but something's working for Boyd, and so he's an interesting
- 50:35Speaker 2: one to watch. Yeah, it's only five games they started,
- 50:40Speaker 2: but he's had some terrible luck. So we'll see when
- 50:43Speaker 2: he gets back if that kind of maintains, then maybe
- 50:47Speaker 2: there's a buy an opportunity here, But in general, I'm
- 50:50Speaker 2: not a big Matthew Boyd fan. I just don't think
- 50:52Speaker 2: there's enough to sustain and it is a little bit
- 50:55Speaker 2: of a roller coaster profile, so I'll generally stay away.
- 50:58Speaker 2: But to your point, when he's back, the club's got
- 51:00Speaker 2: no choice. They're they're gonna plug this guy in and
- 51:02Speaker 2: he's gonna be the ride or die.
- 51:04Speaker 1: Yeah. It Also, I'm looking at it because it was
- 51:08Speaker 1: only five games, I think it was a little bit
- 51:10Speaker 1: of a schedule too. He only played he only pitched
- 51:13Speaker 1: against one team that was above in the top twenty
- 51:19Speaker 1: of WRC plus of those five games, and it was
- 51:24Speaker 1: his opener against Washington and got shelled for six innings
- 51:28Speaker 1: or first six runs. So that might be a little
- 51:31Speaker 1: bit of the factor there on the pit because otherwise
- 51:33Speaker 1: it was Angels below average offense, Phillies blow average offense
- 51:37Speaker 1: at San Diego, below average offense against Arizona below average offense,
- 51:42Speaker 1: and four of those five were in Chicago, where it's
- 51:46Speaker 1: barely been above like fifty degrees all spring. So something
- 51:49Speaker 1: else to consider with Boyd where it was a nice
- 51:52Speaker 1: little run and still couldn't keep the earned runs off
- 51:55Speaker 1: the board for you. So yeah, something I've watched going forward.
- 51:59Speaker 1: But I think if you're also in a situation where
- 52:01Speaker 1: he was on the fringe for you in terms of
- 52:04Speaker 1: we're running out of injury spots all across the board
- 52:07Speaker 1: in all of our leagues, I would not feel bad
- 52:10Speaker 1: about cutting Matthew Boyd if I had to.
- 52:12Speaker 2: You, Oh well, I probably wouldn't own it in the
- 52:13Speaker 2: first place, So that factor.
- 52:16Speaker 1: Okay, Well, if you're in those show notes and have
- 52:19Speaker 1: been following along, we do have a few updates to
- 52:21Speaker 1: the Baseball Car calendar. Mostly the biggest one is Tops
- 52:25Speaker 1: Tier one hitting the pre orders in the tbds, so
- 52:29Speaker 1: that will be dropping at the end of the month. Otherwise,
- 52:33Speaker 1: we're going to focus on the number one set that
- 52:36Speaker 1: is in that calendar release, which is Bowman twenty twenty six,
- 52:40Speaker 1: releasing May thirteenth. When you're listening to this podcast, or
- 52:44Speaker 1: maybe at least that's the first day you'd be possibly
- 52:46Speaker 1: listening to it, We're gonna take a small break be
- 52:48Speaker 1: back with that checklist and everything else. Twenty twenty six
- 52:52Speaker 1: Bowman stick around, all right, Welcome back, everybody. We're gonna
- 53:12Speaker 1: dive right into twenty twenty six Bowmen and the checklist
- 53:16Speaker 1: that we're looking at. So, if you're not familiar with
- 53:19Speaker 1: Bowman and the baseball card set that comes out every year,
- 53:23Speaker 1: it usually does come out around this time in the spring,
- 53:26Speaker 1: kind of early portion of the season. Bowman's really not
- 53:30Speaker 1: known for being chalk full of rookies and prospects, and
- 53:33Speaker 1: especially with this product, what's turned into over the past
- 53:36Speaker 1: few years is the paper which is the base set
- 53:39Speaker 1: is pretty much junk, like pretty much worth us and
- 53:43Speaker 1: everyone's chasing the chromes, the inserts, the autos, all the
- 53:46Speaker 1: fun stuff, because there is plenty of fun stuff. I
- 53:49Speaker 1: think within this set, you're looking at your standard hundred
- 53:52Speaker 1: card base or one hundred hundred cards in the base set,
- 53:56Speaker 1: hundred cards in the prospect paper set. Here for Bowman,
- 54:00Speaker 1: that is, you know, you're in year out and what
- 54:04Speaker 1: we're going to be diving into is really, like I said,
- 54:09Speaker 1: the highlights of this overall set. So Brew, this is
- 54:13Speaker 1: an annual set, one of the biggest ones. What really
- 54:16Speaker 1: stands out to you for Bowmen, and I guess before
- 54:20Speaker 1: we even do that, before you get to correct me,
- 54:22Speaker 1: it's one hundred and fifty prospect cards, not one hundred,
- 54:25Speaker 1: so you get two hundred and fifty in the base
- 54:27Speaker 1: paper set. So you is this a set that you're
- 54:31Speaker 1: trying to put together often something that you're ripping every year.
- 54:34Speaker 2: Yeah, it's it's not definitely not something I'm ripping every year.
- 54:38Speaker 2: And it's been a year or two since I used
- 54:40Speaker 2: to try to put together every single Bowman paper set
- 54:44Speaker 2: and every single you know, Bowman chrome set, just the
- 54:47Speaker 2: the not the inserts or anything like that. But it
- 54:51Speaker 2: was just always kind of fun because what I liked
- 54:53Speaker 2: about it is, you know, especially the Bowmen first getting
- 54:56Speaker 2: a chance to have the first of whoever the big
- 55:01Speaker 2: name is at some point when they break out, and
- 55:04Speaker 2: having him in the collection just naturally because that that's
- 55:07Speaker 2: the interesting thing with these sets is, you know, we're
- 55:10Speaker 2: we'll talk about we'll talk about the big prospects, who
- 55:12Speaker 2: who's the big name. Most likely we're wrong, We're most
- 55:16Speaker 2: likely wrong with who the big name is, and it's
- 55:18Speaker 2: gonna be somebody else breaking out. Something else is gonna
- 55:21Speaker 2: be what makes us set valuable. And it could be
- 55:23Speaker 2: that twenty twenty six Bowmen is worth every single penny,
- 55:27Speaker 2: or it could be like some other years, where we
- 55:30Speaker 2: thought it was gonna be amazing and like, let's go
- 55:33Speaker 2: back what year was, like Adlie Rushman, kell Nick and
- 55:37Speaker 2: things like that, Like I camera what set was at eighteen?
- 55:42Speaker 2: That set was so gosh darn expensive because everybody thought
- 55:47Speaker 2: these guys were gonna be the thing, and literally nothing's
- 55:49Speaker 2: ever come out of that. I think Casey Maies was
- 55:52Speaker 2: in that one, Like nothing ever came out of that set.
- 55:54Speaker 2: But yet I've got like two collated versions of it
- 55:57Speaker 2: setting in my closet just in case, just in case
- 56:00Speaker 2: something comes. So like, I love that part of Bowman,
- 56:03Speaker 2: and it's also a good way just to kind of
- 56:05Speaker 2: learn that the prospects coming through the system. So that's
- 56:10Speaker 2: the big thing to me. I'm just a big fan
- 56:13Speaker 2: of kind of getting their first card and have an
- 56:15Speaker 2: opportunity like that. There are some other quirks to it,
- 56:18Speaker 2: and they're planning trying to play with the inserts. I
- 56:20Speaker 2: always do love a few of the inserts sets, specifically
- 56:24Speaker 2: the Top one hundred has always been an insert set.
- 56:27Speaker 2: I've put together a few of them just because again
- 56:31Speaker 2: it's those are usually pretty cool designs and say hey,
- 56:33Speaker 2: I've got the Top one hundred Prospects from the this
- 56:35Speaker 2: year be able to look through them again. Another kind
- 56:37Speaker 2: of cool set. So I like it. I do not
- 56:40Speaker 2: recommend ripping. It is a feast or famine product based
- 56:43Speaker 2: on what autograph you get. You are much better to
- 56:46Speaker 2: look at this one from a retail perspective or feast
- 56:50Speaker 2: off of those that did rip, and they have way
- 56:52Speaker 2: too much out there. You are going to find your
- 56:55Speaker 2: bowing first chromes of almost everybody in this for fifty
- 56:59Speaker 2: cents at a card show, and you can collect this
- 57:03Speaker 2: pretty gush urn cheap.
- 57:05Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, I think there will be some that pop,
- 57:07Speaker 1: but it is something where it rises quick and then
- 57:11Speaker 1: dips and then like the rises happen later, especially like
- 57:16Speaker 1: as we've seen over the past couple of years with Bowman,
- 57:19Speaker 1: things are produced pretty astronomically, especially as we get into
- 57:23Speaker 1: the number of parallels that we're looking at. That to
- 57:26Speaker 1: be able to get those number, that volume of parallels
- 57:29Speaker 1: out into this set, I mean not only do they
- 57:33Speaker 1: use the breakers to light boxes, which certainly help, but
- 57:36Speaker 1: just the pure number of cards has been increasing year
- 57:40Speaker 1: over year over year, so that decreases the value of
- 57:43Speaker 1: the paper and the chromes that are much more common.
- 57:46Speaker 1: But I mean we've seen too where some of these players,
- 57:50Speaker 1: even with the volume of the rookie cards in the
- 57:53Speaker 1: first you know, if they turn into something pretty incredible
- 57:56Speaker 1: and it takes a little while for it to brew,
- 57:58Speaker 1: you can see some of those values really hold up
- 58:02Speaker 1: or even go up. So especially who we're looking at
- 58:06Speaker 1: chasing from the set, I mean it's slapped right on
- 58:09Speaker 1: the front. You've got Ethan Holliday from the Rockies right
- 58:11Speaker 1: there with Roman Anthony. They are gonna be two of
- 58:14Speaker 1: the premier guys to chase Rouma and Anthony has the
- 58:16Speaker 1: regular rookie cards, Ethan Holiday has the Bowman first cards.
- 58:20Speaker 1: Other rookies that are chasing in this that Munataka Murakami,
- 58:24Speaker 1: who is actually gonna probably be more of the anchor
- 58:27Speaker 1: than Anthony, because we did not see any Murakami cards
- 58:31Speaker 1: at least base cards come out yet in series one,
- 58:34Speaker 1: so Roman Anthony already had that shot. Anybody that's been
- 58:38Speaker 1: out there looking for Murakami cards has probably been having
- 58:41Speaker 1: to go to the Japanese market and probably finding your
- 58:44Speaker 1: store on eBay, and so that is not a very
- 58:48Speaker 1: cheap endeavor right now. So I think you're gonna see
- 58:51Speaker 1: a lot a lot of people chasing these bas Murakami
- 58:55Speaker 1: cards even at repdate. So if you are ripping on
- 58:59Speaker 1: or near the date that we are recording this and
- 59:03Speaker 1: the release date on May thirteenth, get those murracamming cards
- 59:07Speaker 1: listed on eBay immediately because they will hold value in
- 59:11Speaker 1: the first couple of weeks and then fall off a
- 59:13Speaker 1: cliff outside of parallels and autos and so on and
- 59:16Speaker 1: so forth.
- 59:16Speaker 2: You can sell a base paper today for twenty dollars,
- 59:21Speaker 2: and when the when the first ones hit, they were
- 59:24Speaker 2: going for over one hundred dollars because it was like
- 59:26Speaker 2: the first chance to get it and a great again
- 59:29Speaker 2: for Mura commy, this is great. It's kind of like
- 59:31Speaker 2: the Otani where this is like the true rookie card.
- 59:33Speaker 2: Away is the first US rooking card, and so like
- 59:37Speaker 2: there's gonna be it's going to hold long term value.
- 59:39Speaker 2: But this set is so overprinted that this that's a
- 59:45Speaker 2: five dollars card for a while at most, at most
- 59:49Speaker 2: I might be over selling it. So yeah, and again
- 59:52Speaker 2: you don't never just don't use the Otani market to
- 59:54Speaker 2: compare to because that that's unreasonable. Never collect expecting that.
- 59:59Speaker 2: I know you may have collected that and backed into
- 1:00:02Speaker 2: some of that, and I still am jealous, but you
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: can't collect that way. That's a dangerous game to play.
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: Those who play it generally do not end up in
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: a good spot. So yeah, public service announcement done.
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I also didn't do it at a
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: very expensive level. I thought it after that injury or
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: two which helped out. And so other rookies that we're
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: looking at in terms of this set are South Stewart,
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: Consumer Okamoto, Peyton Toley, Jake Mizerowski, Chase the Latter, Trey
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: Ya Savage, Kim Schlitzler, Bryce Eldridge, Coles Montgomery, Jack Kegleone,
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: Tatsuya m I, Baba Chandler, Samuel Basaio. So it's a
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: pretty lengthy list, and that's even not all of them
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: that I think it's forty total rookie cards in the
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: base set, because we'll get into it that there are
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: buy back opportunities with those as well. On the prospect side.
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: In addition to Holiday, you're looking at Waiwa, Andrew Fisher, Gage, Jump,
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: Ava Arquette, Justin Gonzalez, Edward Florentino, who actually, like I
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: think that's probably the one.
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: That's that it's probably even over Holiday at this point.
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: Honestly, I think so too that it reminds me a
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: lot of like when the Elie de la Cruz first
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: were included in Bowman back in twenty two, I think.
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: And so it was either twenty two or twenty three
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: when we had the Eli first, and I think that
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: you're gonna see the same thing with Florentino as he
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: kind of makes his way through those upper levels, things
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: are going to really jump in terms of value, and
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: especially now. I mean, Florentino is a pretty big name,
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: but he's not getting the top billing that Holiday is,
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: or even our cats getting in and Justin Gonzalez, like,
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: I think he's down the list from Justin Gonzalez for
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: lots of people out there. You've also got Kendri Churio
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: from the Royals. He's like an eighteen year old pitcher
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: flying through that system. Somebody to keep an eye on.
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: Daniel Pierre's first round pick from the Rays, Ork Houston
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: of the Twins, my boy Cayden Scarborough. So there's it's
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: a much more limited list of first prospects compared to
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: what you see obviously in Draft or Bowman chrome, but
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: it's a pretty solid crop here for Bowman twenty twenty
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: six right off the bat in May. In terms of
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: getting those cards, though, let's go back there. In terms
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: of how you're going to buy these. You can find
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: the Bowman anywhere. It's ubiquitous. You can find in retail
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: environments like targets and walmarts or Best Buys and things
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: like that. Lids if you've got one, you can also
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: find it in every hobby shop. So if you're going
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: to go the hobby route, you've got hobby boxes available
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: to twenty packs off eight cards. Apiece comes with one auto.
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: The presale was at two forty. The range for the
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: boxes now will probably two fifty to three hundred. It's
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: gonna be wonky, especially because of his release day. You
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: got Jumbo's twelve packs twenty eight cards per pack, there
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: three guaranteed autos. The presale was five twenty on that,
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: which is so nuts considering how much Bowman paper you're
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: getting For five hundred and twenty dollars, that's gonna be
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: ranging more from my five fifty six hundred plus. Now,
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: if you're gonna get on the secondary market value Slash
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: Blaster boxes are thirty bucks, six packs, ten cards gonna
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: be available any retailer. Coming later this month, we'll have
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: Megas Megaboxes, which will be six packs seven cards apiece,
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: but contains the Mega parallels, which we're not ever gonna
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: include in our parallel rundown. That'll be around fifty bucks
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: when you find it. In retail situations, if you had
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: to pick one, which route you're going to be able
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: to rip some Bowman twenty twenty six.
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I think if I had to go on, I
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: think it'd probably go megaboxes, just because of the megabox parallels,
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: the Mojo parallels that you get, and also just kind
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: of the value of per cards that you're going to get.
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: When you're buying the Jumbo of the hobby, you are
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: paying for that guaranteed autograph or guaranteed autogra graphs. The
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: Mega you're not getting that, but you're guaranteed a number
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: of the parallels like the Mojo's which do hold value.
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: Their module refractors usually step up from a regular refractor,
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: so you kind of guarantee yourself a shot at a
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: few of those prospects and getting some some good value
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: cards in those. And so that's where I would play.
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: And then Yeah, you might back into an autograph or
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: something like that. So I think megboxes is probably the
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: way I would go. It's within price point, it's reasonable,
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: and you're gonna you're gonna get a few, say, quasi
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: hits in it, uh, in a decent decent number of cards.
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: Yes, Yeah, I think so too, that it's probably the
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: best route to go for bang for your buck. The
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: value boxes seem to have been gotten getting worse and
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: worse over the years for Bowman. Uh. They used to
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: be a decent value but it doesn't really feel like
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: it anymore, is now. Yeah, it feels like they've really
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: taken most of the hits and put them in jumbos
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: or hobbies or the breakers. The light boxes we can't
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: even get our hands on and are forcing you to
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: kind of go through breakers if you want any of
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: the major cards, which is really the unfortunate portion of
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: Bowman that that's where all the big stuff is gonna
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: be hit. You're gonna see all the major breakers that
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: are just like tearing through those breakers. The lights unveil
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: a lot of great cards, and they're going to force
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: you to pay an arm and a leg to get
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: in on those spots.
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: So some of them.
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: To keep in mind, I don't think it's a I
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: don't endorse going into the breaks in this because it's
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: gonna be really difficult and really really expensive. But if
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: you've got somebody you're chasing, that's probably your best route, unfortunately,
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: just knowing that you're gonna take a bath on the
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: value of it. Otherwise, Like I don't know, the Jumbo
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: would be the way to go, but like that's such
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: a risky proposition for five to six hundred bucks at
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: this point, Like that is a lot of money to
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: be laying down.
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: I can't believe I'm going to say this, but this
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: might be one of the few times I endorse breaking,
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: Like if you if you're actually after like your team
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: or something like that, Like this is the scenario where
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: you might want to go that route because you're already
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: laying down a pretty penny no matter what to play
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: in the Bowman game, So you might as well kind
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: of angle that at what you're after and kind of
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: increase your odds that you get your players and the
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: first you want and things like that, So that that
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: might be the play, especially if you're if you know,
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: if if you're a you know, a Pirates fan or
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: a Rockies fan or something like that might probably a
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: little harder to do that. But if you're a fan
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: that doesn't have like huge prospects in this or anything
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: like that, that might be the play.
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, I think we're on the same page there.
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: Then let's get into some of the parallels. So I
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: will take the paper ones, which I think I added
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: them up, and it's twenty two parallels, and so we
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: are looking at the grouping of Bowman logo patterns. Sky
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: blue border, which is a staple of Bowman at this point.
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: Four ninety nine neon green, three ninety nine fuschia borders
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: of two, ninety nine purple borders of two, fifty purple
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: patterns of two fifty pink borders of one, seventy five,
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: blue borders of one, fifty blue pattern borders of one,
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: fifty green borders of ninety nine, green border patterns of
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: ninety nine yellow borders fifty five green or yellow pattern
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: fifty five gold border pattern of fifty, gold borders of fifty,
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: orange borders of twenty five, orange border patterns of twenty five,
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: black borders of twenty five black border patterns of twenty
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: five red of five platinums one of ones, and then
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: you're printing plates one of ones. I didn't count those
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: as separate parallels, so that is only twenty two that
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: is only on the paper products. So that is both
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: the one hundred card base set and the one hundred
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: and fifty prospect cards all have that in the paper
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: finish gonna not be quite as valuable. Also, I don't
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: think I've ever gotten one of these that is not
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: got some whiting on a corner.
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: I was thinking the same thing. These are always dinged up.
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: It's yeah, I don't understand how it's possible that they
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: always have an issue.
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: They always do, so they are not the most popular
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: trace of people to chase out there. You also will
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: have etched in glass variations of some of the big rookies,
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: which is you know, like, I think I can probably
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: just rattle through all of them. It's twelve Chase Burns, Roman, Anthony,
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: Jacob Missierowski, Carson Williams, Bryce Eldridge, Colson Montgomery, Jack Kaglio
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: and Bubba Chandler, Harry Ford, Nolan McLain, Samuel Bissio, Christian Moore.
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: Those are the twelve that will have special etched in
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: glass variations, and then of the base we will also
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: have the Red Rookie RC logo variations, which has the
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: buyback program to it.
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: Brew.
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: Remind everybody out there what that kind of buyback program was,
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: what the chances of it working out are, because I
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: can tell you it did not work if you were
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: chasing it for twenty twenty twenty five bowmen, because your
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: rookies from last year came out of draft and chrome,
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: I believe, and this year some of your front runners
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: are looking like the Rookie cards are going to be
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: in chrome. Actually, I mean they certainly are between McGonagall
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: and weather Hold and some of the others that unless
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: you have a lot of faith in Murataka Mura Comy
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: pulling it off, these Red Rookie logo variations are pretty worthless,
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: I think for this set. But let everybody know if
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: they want to be tucking some away how that will work.
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: Yeah, So I'm gonna get the details. Wrongs I didn't
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: pull up in front of me. But as you go
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: through with the Red Rookie Card logo, those are the
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: guys that a as they progress through their careers if
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: they win a award, and so they would have to
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: win the Rookie of the Year first, and then if
- 1:10:07Speaker 2: they win that, that card will be basically valued by
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: fanatics at a certain level. I want to say, it's
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: like one hundred dollars is that first level? And then
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: if you hold that card, so if they win the
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: Rookie of the Year, that that has now locked in
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: as the only one you can try trace from that
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: year going forward as value. If they win the Rookie
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: the Year and then they win the MVP or Cy Young,
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: then actually I might just be the MVP. Then they
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: have that card goes from one hundred dollars to two
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: hundred dollars buy back value, and then it kind of
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: increases from there and eventually becomes like this Hall of
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: Fame type card. If they eventually get to the upper
- 1:10:47Speaker 2: echelons and they win all these MVPs, that card could
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: be worth hundreds and hundreds of dollars in like fanatics products.
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: The likelihood of this happening are is so so rare
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: that you have to win the Rookie of the Year
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: and then be this perennial MVP and go on to
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: be kind of this Hall of Fame player. Again, it's
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: possible but it's unlikely to occur, and you also have
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: to trust that they're gonna be honoring this in like
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: ten years as things played down, because you know what's
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: gonna happen is like three guys are gonna do out
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: the gate and all of a sudden, the tops is
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: gonna just lose their shirt or something like that. So
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: it's a really interesting game play, but it kind of
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: boosts card values and like during the season, it's kind
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: of like the MVP buyback to a degree that if
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: you're really certain this guy's gonna gonna go gonna be
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: that his card value shoots up, and like a Muracanni
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: right now would probably be like the guy in the
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: al that you're like, yeah, this is really valuable. But
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: again mcgonagall's there too, and so what what who you
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: look at? Who's who's gonna be the you know, logo
- 1:11:53Speaker 2: red rookie guy that you want, because if you got
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: it wrong, you overpaid for these cards and now they'
- 1:11:58Speaker 2: worth five dollars. If you got it right, you've got
- 1:12:01Speaker 2: like one hundred dollars voucher. If you just don't play
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: the game at all, you can buy them after the fact.
- 1:12:05Speaker 2: That to be just as happy.
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: Yeah, And I think what also makes it funny in
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: hindsight was that the they had a handful of players
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: from the original twenty twenty five checklist. You can see
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: it like right in terms of like links out to
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: the same spot still where they weren't even eligible for
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: the twenty twenty five Rookie of the Year and still
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: had a red Rookie variations. Yet there's no way they
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: could have actually gone through and completed the program, And
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: so that makes it funny as well. So it's like, yeah,
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: you're also talking about like it does not make any
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: sense from time value of money, especially coming off of
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: my last month Inflay Show was like five percent. Yeah,
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: thousand dollars in twenty five years is not worth holding
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: on to these cards.
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: Yeah. The only player is if you pull one and
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: the price like hasn't jumped up, then maybe you hold
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: it and see if it's worth it. But more or less,
- 1:13:00Speaker 2: like if you if you pull one and the guy's hot,
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: sell it, and then you pull have another one, sell
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: when that guy's hot, Like, you're probably gonna end up
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: with more than a hundred dollars some value by just
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: partner a few of these out and you'll come up
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: better than trying to gamble on the guy that's gonna
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: win Rookie of the Year.
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: Yeah, So that is something to keep in mind. If
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: you do find one of those that I endorse moving
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: in as imediately, as quickly as you can, because otherwise
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: you're asking for your dud to turn into sho heo tani.
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: And if that's the case, take that money even now
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: and run. So I've given you a little bit of
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: preparation because here's the main course. The parallel list for
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: the Bowman prospects is out of hand. That Like we've
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: been brinking on this level for a while, especially in
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: terms of when we went through Tops Chrome and Bowman
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: Chrome last year, where the paralleled list was getting just
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: insanely bloated. Now you're looking at sixty eight chrome parallels
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: for each of these prospects. When you add that to
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: the twenty two papers as well as extra and Glass
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: and then a new pack fractor, which we'll talk about
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: those variations, you're looking at almost one hundred variations of
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: each individual card to collect. What are we doing.
- 1:14:28Speaker 2: I mean, that's called a rainbow right there, That's what
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: that's called.
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, the hundred, one hundred rainbow. We're gonna get there.
- 1:14:36Speaker 2: I need a whole binder. You need a whole binder
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: for that.
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: To hold your rainbow of one card. Yes, it could
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: just like take up an entire row of like a
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: jumbo like carrier as well too. So yeah, with that,
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: I'm handing it over to you. Sixty plus parallels. You
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: got the breath to do this.
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: How your lung's doing, I'm not sure. This might be
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: the first time. A little scared to do this because
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: it's a lot to go through, but we're going to
- 1:15:03Speaker 2: give it a shot. So from the Chrome prospects one
- 1:15:07Speaker 2: hundred and fifty cards in the set one hundred and
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: fifty parallel to your point sixty two, but it feels
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: like one hundred and fifty. We're starting now with a
- 1:15:13Speaker 2: League logo fractor. We have many diamond refractors, X fractors,
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: wave refractors. None of those are numbered. Then we get
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: into the fun ones, which print run estimated around two
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: hundred little less gumball, sunflower seeds, peanuts, and popcorn refractors.
- 1:15:27Speaker 2: Then we get into our number cards refractors out of
- 1:15:29Speaker 2: four ninety nine, lava refractors out of three ninety nine
- 1:15:32Speaker 2: speckl refractors out of two ninety nine. Then you get
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: into your purples refractors, and your ray waves and your
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: geometrics all out of two fifty. Get your future refractors
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: out of one to ninety nine, Reptilian fusia refractors out
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: of one nine nine, and your future waves out of
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: one ninety nine. You got your blues and the refractor,
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: shimmer and ray wave, reptilian and geometric. That's five different
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: blues out of one fifty. Got your aqua X fractors
- 1:15:57Speaker 2: out of one twenty five, aqua shimmers out of one
- 1:15:59Speaker 2: twenty five, and aqua geometrics out of one twenty five.
- 1:16:02Speaker 2: Then you got only one out of one hundred, That
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: is your steel metal refractors out of one hundred. Got
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: your run of greens at ninety nine green refractors, green
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: grass refractors, green shimmer refractors, green geometric refractors, Reptilian green
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: refractors all out of ninety nine. You had one full
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: breath just for the greens. Yellow refractors out of seventy five,
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: yellow X fractors out of seventy five, yellow wave out
- 1:16:24Speaker 2: of seventy five. Then you get into your little more valuables,
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: Gold refractors out of fifty, Gold Shimmer, Reptilian gold, and
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: Gold Geometric all it should be out of fifty, Bubbin
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: logo fractors out of thirty five. Then you get your
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: Orange out of twenty five, your Orange shimmer out of
- 1:16:41Speaker 2: twenty five, Reptilian and geometric all out of twenty five,
- 1:16:45Speaker 2: rose gold being out of fifteen, Rose Gold X fractors
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: out of fifteen, your blacks and X fractor geometric all
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: out of ten. You get your red true refractors out
- 1:16:57Speaker 2: of five, Red lavas out of five, reptil out of five,
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: Red geometrics out of five. Then for fun, we're just
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: gonna slide in a fire fractor out of three, and
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: then a super fractor out of one, and you're printing
- 1:17:10Speaker 2: plates out of one. That's the full list.
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: Bravo, bravo, you did it. And the other thing there
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: is that's you have to go across every product to
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: pull some of those.
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: So some of the.
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: The breakdown is those parallels are in all the products.
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: You've got, some that are hobby exclusive, some that are
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: variety pack exclusive, which is a little separate pack on
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: top of the other cards within the hobby or jumbo
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: box where if you've especially open tops flagship cards, you'll
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: recognize this as like the silver packs, those are called
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: variety packs with them Bowman, those will contain especially those gumball, peanuts, popcorn,
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: and sunflower seed refractors. Some of them are in Break
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: or Delight exclusives, so you've either got to get the
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: directly working by buying into a break or getting that
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: on the secondary market or getting into the wild world
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: of whatnot good luck with that. And then some are
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: retail exclusives. So it's a wide gamut. If you're trying
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: to do a rainbow, I don't think it's possible. Period.
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: If you can, I'd be thoroughly impressed. But it's just
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: so much to chase down in so many different avenues
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: that it really does dilute just the impact of them, period.
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: So like that is, we are starting to get to
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: the point where you do have to start worrying about
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: the long term value of some of these compared to
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: what you've seen in previous sets. If anything, it might
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: actually boost some of the old ways of doing the
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: refractors that we had where it was just like true
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: colors that it was much more simple to collect those,
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: and they were much rarer. But when you're talking about
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: like five different blue refractors, it really dilutes the entire
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: product across the board to where you went from one
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: hundred and fifty blues to seven hundred and fifty blues
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: at the snap of a finger. So something to keep
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: in mind as you're collecting these. I do think though,
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: because of that, the true color refractors will always hold
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: their most value out of all them. That especially when
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: you're starting to get into like the lizard prints and
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: the steel metal and stuff like they look cool and stuff,
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: but like that, I think that if there's anything from
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: this actual kind of what we're learning in this explosion
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: of parallels, those will be the ones that I think
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: will struggle in the long term. That's my personal opinion.
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: What do you think about some of this that we're
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: seeing in terms of just like the volume of the
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: parallels out there.
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: You're already seeing the hobby kind of define that for
- 1:19:53Speaker 2: us a little bit, which to your point, like the
- 1:19:56Speaker 2: ones that are getting the premium are the true refractors,
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: and so if you've got your shimmers and your geometrics
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: and all those other things, like they're just not getting
- 1:20:07Speaker 2: the same value as a true orange or true red
- 1:20:12Speaker 2: or true blue. Those are all actually getting a premium
- 1:20:15Speaker 2: now because they are so hard to find. And so
- 1:20:18Speaker 2: it's kind of this weird inverse thing taking place where
- 1:20:22Speaker 2: your blues, I think, what out of one fifty or
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: two hundred whatever those are out of, like that is
- 1:20:27Speaker 2: actually getting a premium in the marketplace because it's so
- 1:20:31Speaker 2: hard to get the true version, whereas all the other
- 1:20:33Speaker 2: ones are actually getting a little bit of a discountant.
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: So it's interesting to see how that's playing. I think
- 1:20:38Speaker 2: long term that's also going to kind of be what
- 1:20:40Speaker 2: it is, but I think the overall sea level does
- 1:20:43Speaker 2: get brought down. What's interesting, even with all those things
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: we read, there was only two numbered cards above two
- 1:20:51Speaker 2: ninety nine, and so what they've kind of done is
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: try to get away from that, like, oh, this is
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: overprinting of these four ninety nine's or seven ninety nine's
- 1:20:58Speaker 2: and things that they've done in the past. They've just
- 1:21:01Speaker 2: doubled down on duplicating the lower versions. And yeah, you
- 1:21:06Speaker 2: have to calculate that into your when you're looking at
- 1:21:09Speaker 2: these things and you have a Fuchia wave refractor it's
- 1:21:14Speaker 2: just not that one ninety nine. It's just not the same.
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, And I think the other premium that we
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: see is still color matches. Color matches are always going
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: to reign supreme. So something else to keep in mind
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: as you are collecting your teams or what you're pulling
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: in terms of what's going to hold longer term value.
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: One of the parallels that we talked about, and this
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: will be a lot easier to see if you do
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: go into the show notes and go to the post,
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: is the pack fractor, because I do want to call
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: this one out that this one is pretty cool, especially
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: it looks awesome in the autos where what they've done
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: is they've taken the old like nineteen eighty nine pack
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: I think from Bowman and put it as the background
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: design and this coo Like. I like anything that kind
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: of has this retro throwback feel slash like a comic
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: book feel, and anything that's not like kind of gimmicking
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: it up where it's kind of keeping it true to
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: its original authentic self. This is the type of parallel
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: that I really like. So I think they did really
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: well with this. I guess we didn't touch too much
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: on the design, which honestly kind of speaks to the
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: lack of design because I was also looking like it
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: looks exactly almost like twenty twenty three to the dot,
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: like in terms of what we're looking at from design
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: here in twenty twenty six. So I think we've gotten
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: used to boring designs from Bowmen that are pretty rote
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: and rehashing what they've done before. But honestly, I don't
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: know about you. I'm kind of okay with it on
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: the Bowman side because especially as these first these Bowmen
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: first have become such huge chases and such iconic cards
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: in the hobby and like the go tos that I
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: like having the consistent see kind of in that Bowman
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: design for everybody's first to say, like, this was my
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: first card and it looks pretty similar to other ones
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: we've been seeing for the past decade, you know, from Bowman.
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: What about you?
- 1:23:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I do actually kind of like that is like this,
- 1:23:13Speaker 2: it speaks Bowman, this is what you're getting, and then
- 1:23:16Speaker 2: we can play with those other varriers at your point. Pack.
- 1:23:19Speaker 2: I absolutely love the pack Fractors got that nineteen ninety
- 1:23:21Speaker 2: nine like looks like a pack is really that background
- 1:23:26Speaker 2: from Bowman and I think those things are gonna be sneaky.
- 1:23:29Speaker 2: It's it's kind of like the in flagships. I wonder
- 1:23:32Speaker 2: if it's gonna be like the team logo borders where
- 1:23:36Speaker 2: people like underestimate how valuable those are gonna be numbered
- 1:23:40Speaker 2: out of eighty nine, I believe, but I want people
- 1:23:43Speaker 2: are gonna look at those and be like, this is
- 1:23:44Speaker 2: kind of a gimmicky first card, No big deal. Those
- 1:23:47Speaker 2: things are gonna be hot as I'll get out, because
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: I think the nostalgia of the collector, because what that's
- 1:23:53Speaker 2: like the heart of collecting if you were like in
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: your early to mid forties, is getting those types of things.
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: And so I think people are going to go crazy
- 1:24:03Speaker 2: over over that design. But to your point, like the
- 1:24:05Speaker 2: core design of Bowman, they've done a good job. They've
- 1:24:08Speaker 2: done a good job, and I think they've kind of
- 1:24:10Speaker 2: found their lane. Let's play around the edges of it
- 1:24:13Speaker 2: and just leave it like that.
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's all very fair. Also, like the
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: Chunkier the design and kind of like rehashing of the
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: design allows them to focus more on the photoshopping.
- 1:24:23Speaker 2: So which has not always been the Forte.
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: Which I will say the photo shopping has looked much
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: more solid in this set. I don't know if that's
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: like an introduction of AI techniques as well too or something,
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: but like it has looked much more believable in the
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: cards I've been seeing. I mean, just look at like
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: a George Lombard junior bowman first and see how far
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: we've even come in modern photoshopping techniques. So something that
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: I've been enjoying about this set as well. Let's get
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: into some of the hits. So first, I mean, the
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: main hits that you're looking for are those autos, you know,
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: the one per be three per jumbo. And then what
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: the biggest lists are are the Chrome first in prospects,
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: So it's going to be very very heavy on those.
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: I can also tell you usually the way that works
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: out is you're gonna get three Chrome prospect autos not
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: first in your jumbo box of probably guys who are
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: destined to be relievers or not make it to the
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: big So that's where you can especially take that huge
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: bloodbath that we're talking about, shelling out five to six
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: hundred bucks or jumble box and hitting some guys that
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: never even sniff the majors from the prospect end. So
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: those certainly dominate the hits as well as the paper
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: autos of first Prospects, Rookies and vets that you got
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: those mixed in as well. The chromes will be on card,
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: the papers will be sticker autos, and then you're also
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: going to see a little bit of a mix. I
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: think when it comes to the insert ones, I think
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: most of them should be on card, but we do
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: sometimes see where essentially we'll get into it and talk
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: about some of the inserts, but all the inserts pretty
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: much have an auto version as well. Some of them
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: might end up being stickers. We'll kind of see as
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: more and more hit the market. And then you're also
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: looking at some rookie chrome autos. You're looking at draft
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: pick pairing dual autos which has some interesting like hall
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: of Famers and stars to be able to mix and match.
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: I was looking. I didn't find a picture of any
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: of those hits yet because they're gonna be pretty rare.
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: Another big hit is going to be the gold Ink
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: Prospect autos that are of fifteen. I have an example
- 1:26:36Speaker 1: that in the post on ras Ball with a Justin
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: Gonzalez who s just kiss love. I love a lazy
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: auto like Justin Gonzalez where it's just like j GP
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: love like Justin That's what I'm talking about, babies.
- 1:26:50Speaker 2: I feel like that takes more time than actually just
- 1:26:53Speaker 2: sign your name, Yeah, just.
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: Like a scribble. Yeah, I totally agree. Then, I mean
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: the hit of all hits that from this product are
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: going to be those huge booklet autos. So I mean,
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: I'm guessing those are those are also prime to be
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: buried in bake Breakers Delights boxes because the way that
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: lines up a lot is that the Breaker's Delight boxes
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: are about the thickness of like what one of those
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: entire booklets is, which is a bummer. So if you
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: can get your hand on one of those, like you're
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: looking at twenty five thirty thousand dollars because you can
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: get the possibility of multiple huge future Hall of Famers
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: and all sorts of goodies on those huge booklets. So, Brew,
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: what stands out for you in terms of this auto
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: checklist or just the autos in general and anything that
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: you really kind of focused on here within Bowman twenty
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: twenty six or Bowman overall compared to the rest of
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: the market when it comes to autographs.
- 1:27:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I think the the the base auto,
- 1:27:55Speaker 2: and I would even say, like the the parallels of ore,
- 1:27:58Speaker 2: like the Premium, that's where it's at. The Gold inks
- 1:28:03Speaker 2: are you know, incredibly rare, but I think they are
- 1:28:06Speaker 2: absolutely beautiful, so well done. That's one thing that Tops
- 1:28:11Speaker 2: has always done well over the year. Gold autos. I
- 1:28:13Speaker 2: don't think I've ever seen a bad version of a
- 1:28:16Speaker 2: Gold Auto, So those stick out. We talked about the
- 1:28:21Speaker 2: the pack fractor autos. I think those are gonna be
- 1:28:23Speaker 2: an absolute hit. I do think some of the other
- 1:28:26Speaker 2: insert autos are just not gonna hold up nearly as
- 1:28:29Speaker 2: well over time. They're they're they're cool, they're they're nice,
- 1:28:33Speaker 2: but they're just not gonna gonna hold up as well
- 1:28:36Speaker 2: as as folks would really like them too when they
- 1:28:40Speaker 2: make those poles and so I think, and honestly what
- 1:28:43Speaker 2: we'll get into the insert some of the newer inserts
- 1:28:45Speaker 2: might not put past the snifffest as much this year,
- 1:28:48Speaker 2: and so I think that's gonna hold some of them down.
- 1:28:50Speaker 2: So for me, I'm looking for those first probably like
- 1:28:54Speaker 2: the first refractor out of four ninety nine auto, and
- 1:28:58Speaker 2: I'm praying that I somehow end up with one of
- 1:29:01Speaker 2: those Gold autos. As well. Those are the ones that
- 1:29:04Speaker 2: I think are the premium and again i'd love a
- 1:29:06Speaker 2: pack Factor one. I think those are going to drive
- 1:29:09Speaker 2: a crazy prices here. So that's kind of what I'm
- 1:29:11Speaker 2: really looking for from an auto perspective.
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's all really like the best spots
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: to focus. The one thing that I also noticed when
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: I was going through the checklist is we don't have
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: any of the Legends in this set, which is interesting
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: because we've had that for say the past three years
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: from Bowman, which we always thought was kind of hackneyed
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: in terms of trying to take back old players who
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: were before Bowman first started coming out and putting in
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: either a base card or if the player was still alive,
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: autos of them to the set to try to kind
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: of drum up extra interest made sense one of those
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: cool players like Babe Ruth and Jackie Robinson, but it
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: really started tapering off, you know, with Tony Perez and
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: likes it like l yeah, I mean, I mean even.
- 1:30:01Speaker 2: Steve Carlton is a tickaba Tony three yeah. Yeah, but
- 1:30:05Speaker 2: still like you can feel the trajectory. We talked about
- 1:30:07Speaker 2: this in the past, so.
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: And so I don't know if that, I mean we
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: kind of were starting to make fun of it personally,
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: like when we would see some of those, because it
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: was really falling off quickly and if they really wanted
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: to lean into it. We were especially wanted some dead
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: ball players into the card sets. But I don't see
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: any in the checklist this time, so we'll see if
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: any surface. Sometimes those come up late and you'll see
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: stuff where tops and fanatics will put out pieces of
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: checklists that kind of drop on actual release date. I
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: don't think Bowman will have that because it's so big
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: that people want to know everything that's in it. So
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: something to consider going forward that if you were kind
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: of like us and maybe starting to cheer for the
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: legend stuff to disappear a little bit, looks like it
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: might be off the docket for twenty twenty six. If
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: that's the case, and that not doing it in this
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: Bowman set. Let's move on to the inserts, though. Let's
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: focus first on the returners because well, in general, the
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: inserts I think is where Bowman has really been shining
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: the past couple of years. That a lot of these
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: inserts have really been cool. They've been very collectible. The
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: sets look gorgeous when you put them together. They look
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: gorgeous when you add some of the inserts. If you're
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: just chasing, like a personal PC player and you want
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: one insert or one card to stand out, there's some
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: fun options I think for you to either get off
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: of eBay or to go hunt down at card shows.
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: The returners that we've got coming back are Bowman Scouts,
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: the top one hundred, the anime inserts, which I mean,
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: these things are wildly popular and they've been expanding even
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: further now where this year they've got Sadahar in them.
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: They've also got Team USA cards, and then there's Kanji
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: variations of all the Japanese players. Those things are huge,
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: huge hits, So you're talking like Otani, Sadaharah, tatsuyum My,
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: Hideo Nomo, the likes of those guys will have those
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: Kandi variations. Final Draft is a returner. This is it's
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: hard to describe, but it's kind of like got graffiti
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: or like drawings in the background.
- 1:32:14Speaker 2: It's like it is definite.
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: It pops because of the chrome aspect and it looks clean,
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: but otherwise it's it's probably one of the more boring ones.
- 1:32:24Speaker 1: Crystallized these are wildly popular as well. They look like
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: the inside of like you crack open a crystallized rock
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: and see the variations in terms of the crystals, but
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: it's got the colors with the team. They are shorter
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: printed this year than they haven't in the past, so
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: something keep in mind if you like collecting those. And
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: then Spotlights. Spotlights is like one of the hallmarks now
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: of Bowman going Forward where all black background looks like
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: they're on a stage, which just a spotlight on the
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: player with just a picture. Those I don't think are
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: ever gonna go away because they're wildly popular and there
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: be utiful so brew from these returning inserts. What stands
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: out to you any of them that you love more
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: than the others?
- 1:33:07Speaker 2: Yeah, well, the first thing I would say is the
- 1:33:09Speaker 2: return What I think they did really well this year
- 1:33:11Speaker 2: is they didn't mess around. They took the best of
- 1:33:14Speaker 2: the best from the returning inserts and just left at that.
- 1:33:17Speaker 2: Because I have zero problem with any of these inserts.
- 1:33:21Speaker 2: I you know, I think the Crystallides is probably the
- 1:33:24Speaker 2: coolest of all of them. I think it's the best
- 1:33:26Speaker 2: looking anime to your point, is really well collected. I'm
- 1:33:30Speaker 2: not an anime expert. I looked at a few of them.
- 1:33:32Speaker 2: I feel like they've tooken a step back in their
- 1:33:34Speaker 2: anime animations this year a little bit. They're not as good.
- 1:33:38Speaker 2: I don't know how to describe it. They just don't
- 1:33:40Speaker 2: have the same look and feel as what they've done
- 1:33:43Speaker 2: a few in the past years, and so maybe a
- 1:33:45Speaker 2: little step back there. But I absolutely love all of them.
- 1:33:48Speaker 2: If you're going after one crystallize, it's also gonna be
- 1:33:51Speaker 2: incredibly hard to get. But if you're wanting to play around,
- 1:33:54Speaker 2: I love putting the Bowman Scouts Top one hundred sets together.
- 1:33:58Speaker 2: It's a good looking card to get an information and
- 1:34:00Speaker 2: it's a really great way to learn all these prospects.
- 1:34:02Speaker 2: So if I'm playing, that's the pool I'm playing.
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: Yep. I think that's very fair. Some of the new
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: inserts we got are Bowman Sterling, which is if you're
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: familiar with the Bowman Sterling product. I don't know if
- 1:34:15Speaker 1: it's actually going to be released anymore, so that's kind of.
- 1:34:18Speaker 2: My guess is if you look at them, they're bow
- 1:34:21Speaker 2: and Sterling cards.
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: So if you were a fan of Bowman Sterling in
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: the past, like this might be the way that you
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: have to collect it going forward, because they looks like
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: they're kind of phasing out that set and moving it
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: into these inserts.
- 1:34:33Speaker 2: But they look beautiful.
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: It's a well framed up silver card, very clean. They're
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: trading for a lot of money, so people really have
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: been digging those. You got patchwork, which is it is
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: a patchwork where you got a lot of patches from
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: the jerseys in the background. A little bit boring, but
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: also still pretty clean, pretty looks good in the chrome finish.
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: You got electric sluggers, which I dig this one and
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: I'm a sucker honestly for anything with lightning on it.
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: I think is what I've started to figure out, and
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: it comes from nineteen nineties beam teams. Well, I mean those,
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: especially the basketball beam teams. They were just like Laiden
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: with the with the electric lightning bolts, and so I'm
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: into these electric sluggers. I think they look great. You've
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: also got maybe this is the dud I think, evolve
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: them under the radar. They could have done much better,
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: but it's it looks like a radar in the background,
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: and the entire card is like a greenish color. It
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: actually reminds me of like a early twenty twenty twenties,
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: like mid twenty tens Bowman insert where they were starting
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: to goof around colors like this, like they really should
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: have leaned into it, like green line a little bit more,
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: but they tried to marry it with modern card design.
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: It really fails unless there is a factor sometimes with
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: these Bowman cards where you can put them together, the
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: entire set on like a and stack them together and
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: it makes a bigger picture. I don't think it does
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: for under the Radar, but if it does, that might
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: be cool. You've also got Power Chords, which is a
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: die cut of a of a guitar. It is kind
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: of gimmicky, but I kind of like it.
- 1:36:16Speaker 2: I liked it until I saw the guitar, Like I'm like, oh,
- 1:36:18Speaker 2: cool die cut. Then I'm like, they put a guitar
- 1:36:20Speaker 2: in it. Like it now it's not flames.
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: There's flames on it. And you got the Power Chords
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: name of the card in a font that looks like
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: it belongs an AC DC album. So you've got I
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: think some fun inserts there.
- 1:36:35Speaker 2: What do you say or take?
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:36:36Speaker 2: I mean I've always been a fan of Bowman Sterling,
- 1:36:38Speaker 2: so I think it will be kind of cool to see.
- 1:36:40Speaker 2: I think Patchwork has a like it's gonna be like
- 1:36:43Speaker 2: make or break if you haven't seen him, like, I
- 1:36:45Speaker 2: don't like as so much. Another one I saw, like, oh,
- 1:36:47Speaker 2: I absolutely love it for like Studio back in the day,
- 1:36:49Speaker 2: Like I think there's like Studio and so like it.
- 1:36:52Speaker 2: It's very it could be very hit or miss, and
- 1:36:55Speaker 2: so I like that. I'm with you. I think Electric
- 1:36:58Speaker 2: Sluggers is be kind of the one I'm gonna target
- 1:37:00Speaker 2: and go after and and so I think you did
- 1:37:03Speaker 2: a great job and just displaying them this or explain them.
- 1:37:05Speaker 2: I think it's gonna be, uh, it's gonna be hit
- 1:37:08Speaker 2: or miss this year and probably one or two the
- 1:37:10Speaker 2: wist survive in the next year.
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: Yeah, And I'm gonna look it up real quick on
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: eBay to see if there's any patchwork autos already listed.
- 1:37:18Speaker 2: I didn't see any just because I'm a guy. There's
- 1:37:21Speaker 2: two patch workworks I think sold already or maybe listed
- 1:37:26Speaker 2: of like one of tatis was out there and they
- 1:37:29Speaker 2: were they looked okay, and they were more or less
- 1:37:31Speaker 2: than the two hundred dollars range at this point.
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think that will actually if there's any
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: of these inserts that will look good with an auto
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: I think it'll be that one or to be able
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: to go and get it in person. I'm seeing a
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: Hazus my Day one right now, so that will be
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: an interesting one as a surfaces. And also I think
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: it will look better in person with the jersey kind
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: of design on it, where it'll pop a little bit
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: more with that chrome finish. So yeah, keeping okay, I
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: think that wraps us up for twenty twenty six Bowmen,
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: So lots of fun things to collect. I think it's
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: going to be a fun set, even though the pricing
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: is a little egregious and you've got a lot of
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: volume to sort through. This is a set that's going
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: to be found in value boxes and trade shows for
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: many years to come. So lots of great stuff to chase,
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: I think, in lots of great cards to be watching
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: on eBay or ripping some out there. So if you
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: are ripping some, hit us up at cards Categories at
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: gmail dot com or reach out to the podcast on
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: Blue Sky at cards Categories. We'd love to see any
