- 0:33Speaker 1: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:37Speaker 4: Tow truck driver. That's a hard one, Okay, that's the
- 0:40Speaker 4: that's the story.
- 0:41Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't know if I'd get into it with
- 0:43Speaker 5: a tow truck.
- 0:44Speaker 4: I tried to tell you guys, there's a two player draft,
- 0:46Speaker 4: and you just you didn't want to believe me.
- 0:47Speaker 1: I don't believe anything.
- 0:48Speaker 5: So think about if Paul was eligible from the draft,
- 0:50Speaker 5: all the red flags about confrontations that.
- 0:52Speaker 6: He's had good luck finding a confrontation in my past.
- 0:55Speaker 5: You sports toys, r us all that stuff.
- 0:59Speaker 1: They find that spot one, not cops. You know what
- 1:03Speaker 1: you did here in public defecation.
- 1:06Speaker 5: On a serious note, Paul, they're talking about they brought
- 1:10Speaker 5: this iowolf back from the DNA of a two. I
- 1:12Speaker 5: don't like that. You see what happened in Jurassic Park.
- 1:18Speaker 6: Your shows, I mean, dis are badass, though you screw
- 1:21Speaker 6: around too much, and all of a sudden you're bringing
- 1:23Speaker 6: t Rexes back like like, I don't know, have you
- 1:25Speaker 6: seen Jurassico.
- 1:27Speaker 7: It wasn't real.
- 1:28Speaker 8: This is Patriot's Unfiltered presented by Toyota's official website. For deals,

- 1:41Speaker 5: in the area. Come on down today until six point thirty.
- 1:44Speaker 5: They're having a big job fare. Go in through the
- 1:47Speaker 5: E one entrance of Gellette Stadium and you could get
- 1:50Speaker 5: hired on the spot. So that's pretty cool. But if
- 1:53Speaker 5: you're not in the area and you're still wondering what
- 1:55Speaker 5: it's like to work at je Lett Stadium, you can
- 1:57Speaker 5: go to the Craft Group dot com slash careers and
- 2:02Speaker 5: apply today. All right, I had to get that out.
- 2:05Speaker 5: Come work with us.
- 2:05Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, one until what time?
- 2:10Speaker 5: Until six thirty? You're looking to change careers?
- 2:12Speaker 1: Popcorn?
- 2:13Speaker 6: Looking for a career?
- 2:14Speaker 5: Yeah all right. Uh, it is Tuesday here at Jills Stadium,
- 2:19Speaker 5: and it's Evan, it's Paul, it's me, it's Deuce, and
- 2:22Speaker 5: we're talking Patriots. We're getting closer to the draft. I
- 2:25Speaker 5: can't believe next week, next week is the draft. It's unbelievable.
- 2:30Speaker 6: I'm ready for the draft. I'm ready for the draft
- 2:32Speaker 6: to be here.
- 2:33Speaker 5: Yeah, I've I've been grinding away at my wide receiver,
- 2:36Speaker 5: so we have a back of the envelope. I'm starting
- 2:38Speaker 5: to develop it.
- 2:39Speaker 6: Okay, look forward to that. Maybe on Thursday, maybe next Tuesday,
- 2:43Speaker 6: next week, next Tuesday.
- 2:44Speaker 5: I could have it for this Thursday. But I want
- 2:46Speaker 5: to have more than just wide receivers. So let's say Tuesday,
- 2:50Speaker 5: I'll have my back of the envelope players.
- 2:52Speaker 6: All right, I look forward to us.
- 2:53Speaker 1: It's good coming.
- 2:54Speaker 9: You're coming in with the can get your dose of
- 2:56Speaker 9: energy at the end here, because we're all run out
- 2:58Speaker 9: of steam.
- 2:58Speaker 1: We just we can get in.
- 2:59Speaker 6: The show though. It's back at the envelope guys. We
- 3:02Speaker 6: can put in a live show on Thursday.
- 3:04Speaker 5: Yeah, it's new to me.
- 3:05Speaker 1: It's a guy named Travis Hunter. I guess he plays
- 3:07Speaker 1: both ways.
- 3:08Speaker 6: Yeah, he's gonna he threatened you. Evidently he's saying he
- 3:13Speaker 6: will not play if he's not allowed to play both ways.
- 3:16Speaker 5: Like the competitiveness full time or does did he not
- 3:20Speaker 5: know that? Just because I think the lower team that
- 3:23Speaker 5: drafts him, that doesn't use him at least somewhat both
- 3:26Speaker 5: ways is crazy.
- 3:27Speaker 6: Yeah, that's crazy.
- 3:29Speaker 5: It's crazy crazy, you know, we'll see.
- 3:32Speaker 9: Do you guys think it just depends on the team
- 3:33Speaker 9: what side he starts on the ball, or do you
- 3:35Speaker 9: think he will start on wide receiver cornerback regardless here,
- 3:39Speaker 9: I think we all agree probably wide receiver. But would
- 3:41Speaker 9: that apply everywhere else he was drafted questions?
- 3:43Speaker 5: It is a good question because I do think it
- 3:45Speaker 5: depends on the team.
- 3:46Speaker 6: System dependent.
- 3:47Speaker 7: I think it depends on the team.
- 3:49Speaker 9: It's kind of weird because it's such two different elements
- 3:51Speaker 9: you're bringing to your team. I mean, you still have
- 3:54Speaker 9: some hope that he might contribute both ways. But let's
- 3:57Speaker 9: just say Cleveland's outlook on him taking him to play cornerback, example,
- 4:00Speaker 9: will be totally different than our outlook on him coming
- 4:02Speaker 9: here to play.
- 4:03Speaker 6: And I think it would be team dependent. Cincinnati probably
- 4:06Speaker 6: would look at us if we need help in the
- 4:07Speaker 6: secondary more so than wide receivers. With Chase and Higgins,
- 4:11Speaker 6: maybe they would go the other way.
- 4:13Speaker 5: Right. Yeah, So yeah, that's a good question. But I'm
- 4:17Speaker 5: still sold on Will Campbell. I think that's who they're
- 4:20Speaker 5: gonna end up with.
- 4:22Speaker 6: You seem to be in the majority. A lot of
- 4:24Speaker 6: people talking the way I know, Evan and Mike, you know,
- 4:27Speaker 6: talk the same way, and I feel like a lot
- 4:29Speaker 6: of people although the design themselves.
- 4:32Speaker 5: Door Sanders to the Giants is picking up steam.
- 4:36Speaker 1: That's the wild cars have a workout.
- 4:38Speaker 6: So we were going to have a guest, so I'm
- 4:41Speaker 6: going to step out and give him my sea step out.
- 4:45Speaker 5: It's Marcus jest. What's up, Marcus good? Good? So you're
- 4:52Speaker 5: just in the neighborhood to pop in.
- 4:54Speaker 10: That's great, something that's awesome, something like that.
- 4:57Speaker 5: Well, welcome to Patriots unfiltered.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Appreciate first.
- 5:01Speaker 5: We might have had you on draft after the draft.
- 5:04Speaker 1: A while, but his parents are of the show for sure.
- 5:08Speaker 7: Yeah, that's a good thing.
- 5:12Speaker 5: So Marcus, Mike Evan, you know these guys, you've had
- 5:19Speaker 5: a busy off season and you just got back from Germany.
- 5:22Speaker 10: Right, Oh yeah, how was that? It was great? Spent
- 5:25Speaker 10: some time with everyone over there, you know.
- 5:28Speaker 11: Uh, started to realize how many fans that we have
- 5:30Speaker 11: over there, which is crazy.
- 5:33Speaker 10: Ended up doing that.
- 5:35Speaker 11: I was happy to end up seeing just flag football
- 5:37Speaker 11: grow as a whole, you know, seeing the youth men
- 5:40Speaker 11: and women, you know, playing the same sport is great
- 5:43Speaker 11: to see and everything. And then also got to do
- 5:45Speaker 11: a little bit of the music side the kids.
- 5:49Speaker 5: Like their version of the y m c A. Sure
- 5:51Speaker 5: you made some music with them. That was That was
- 5:53Speaker 5: really cool.
- 5:54Speaker 11: It was crazy just off the fact of seeing how
- 5:57Speaker 11: you know, they basically make music. You know a lot
- 5:59Speaker 11: of people end up saying, oh, is it different over there?
- 6:01Speaker 11: I mean, first thing is the language. Of course, that's
- 6:03Speaker 11: that's a different thing. But other than that, it's the
- 6:05Speaker 11: same thing whenever it comes down genres of music, for sure.
- 6:08Speaker 5: Absolutely. And uh, you met one fan. I saw on
- 6:12Speaker 5: one of our social media accounts. You actually had a
- 6:15Speaker 5: one on one with a fan.
- 6:16Speaker 10: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, that was.
- 6:18Speaker 11: That was great just off the fact of just you know,
- 6:22Speaker 11: meeting him and talking about you was telling me the
- 6:24Speaker 11: PlayStations and everything that he has. He's still playing in
- 6:26Speaker 11: the Nintendo Yeah, And I was like, oh no, that's crazy.
- 6:29Speaker 11: You know you say that to certain people. They think
- 6:31Speaker 11: it's the the DS.
- 6:32Speaker 2: You know.
- 6:33Speaker 11: He was like, no, no, the normal Yeah. I'm like
- 6:36Speaker 11: you could barely see that, you know what I mean.
- 6:38Speaker 11: But he says he played Madden on there and everything,
- 6:41Speaker 11: and just you know, it was chopping it up with
- 6:42Speaker 11: him and just building a relationship with him for sure.
- 6:45Speaker 9: Well I got as because this year we had New
- 6:47Speaker 9: York's resolutions, and mine was I was going to get
- 6:49Speaker 9: serious about my music, okay, which I'm kind of tongue
- 6:52Speaker 9: in cheek, but I do play a little piano and guitar.
- 6:54Speaker 9: But I'm just when did you fall in love with
- 6:56Speaker 9: music and becoming so you know, that's.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Such a part of you who you are, It's a
- 7:00Speaker 1: huge part of it. Where did that come from? What
- 7:02Speaker 1: was the origin of it?
- 7:04Speaker 10: I was just kind of around it.
- 7:05Speaker 11: My dad had turntables and everything, so he had like
- 7:08Speaker 11: a little mic booth, so I'll see some of his
- 7:10Speaker 11: friends just recorded, just making music, just off the playing
- 7:13Speaker 11: around as a hobby, and then he had MPCs. So
- 7:17Speaker 11: as time went on, I was around it twenty four
- 7:18Speaker 11: to seven, and then eventually around i want to.
- 7:21Speaker 10: Say, like high school.
- 7:22Speaker 11: One of my real good friends, Darius Hears, he was like, bro,
- 7:25Speaker 11: I'm gonna start producing, and I was like, I know
- 7:27Speaker 11: a little bit about that because my dad used to
- 7:29Speaker 11: do it. So as time went on, I purchased like Logic,
- 7:33Speaker 11: which is a doll interface. I meant a doll but
- 7:36Speaker 11: basically a program to where I ended up just learning
- 7:39Speaker 11: how to end up making beats. Then eventually I was like, man,
- 7:42Speaker 11: I gotta start recording myself because people don't want to
- 7:44Speaker 11: listen to instrumentals twenty four sevens, you know what I mean.
- 7:46Speaker 10: So I was like, I got to learn how to
- 7:48Speaker 10: record myself.
- 7:49Speaker 11: So then I ended up doing that, finding my sound
- 7:50Speaker 11: and just kind of going from there.
- 7:52Speaker 5: I like the house music, so I like that.
- 7:53Speaker 1: Yeah, no, but I the German.
- 7:56Speaker 5: But it's not just music. I saw you doing color
- 7:59Speaker 5: grading your video that yeaheah, Like you know, like that's
- 8:05Speaker 5: that's awesome. That's an awesome skill to have.
- 8:08Speaker 11: Yeah, a lot of people don't understand how much it
- 8:10Speaker 11: takes just off the fact of making movies or just
- 8:12Speaker 11: making films in general.
- 8:14Speaker 10: So I really connected with one of my real good friends.
- 8:17Speaker 10: His name is Stephan.
- 8:18Speaker 11: He's the owner of company three people that know they'll know,
- 8:21Speaker 11: but he started in ninety eight and he's a colorist.
- 8:25Speaker 11: So whenever I ended up getting into just content in general,
- 8:29Speaker 11: my girlfriend was like, Babe, you should start doing content.
- 8:31Speaker 11: I was like, ah, I think about it, but I
- 8:34Speaker 11: love storytelling and when it comes down to it's just
- 8:36Speaker 11: not off the fact of just posting, you know, it's
- 8:38Speaker 11: about you know, just being more personable and letting people know,
- 8:42Speaker 11: you know, that it's an art. So as time went on,
- 8:44Speaker 11: I purchased a camera, the Sony FX three, and then
- 8:48Speaker 11: kind of went from there of like, Okay, it looks
- 8:50Speaker 11: really good. But people started talking about log and I
- 8:52Speaker 11: was like, what is log? And it's you know, the
- 8:54Speaker 11: closest thing to black and white. So it's a flat
- 8:57Speaker 11: footage and basically you go in and you color it.
- 8:59Speaker 11: So everything that we see on TV, movies and everything
- 9:02Speaker 11: like that, it looks really good. And whenever we see
- 9:04Speaker 11: in a person it's like, dang, it looked really good
- 9:06Speaker 11: on TV, but it don't look as good as you know,
- 9:09Speaker 11: as it does in person. But just getting into that
- 9:11Speaker 11: and I got a whole like setup and everything and
- 9:14Speaker 11: basically just playing around with that, but trying to get
- 9:16Speaker 11: real good at it for sure.
- 9:17Speaker 5: So when do you have time for football?
- 9:19Speaker 10: Oh yeah, I always.
- 9:21Speaker 5: But you'd like to tell stories. What's the story of
- 9:23Speaker 5: this offseason so far in terms of coming back here
- 9:26Speaker 5: to the Gillette. What do you have to tell us
- 9:28Speaker 5: about that?
- 9:29Speaker 2: Oh?
- 9:29Speaker 11: Yeah, man, I'm happy to be back, just off the
- 9:32Speaker 11: fact of seeing everyone you know, sharing the stories of
- 9:34Speaker 11: everyone's off season, building connections with new guys in the building,
- 9:38Speaker 11: that's the main thing. And then also you know the
- 9:41Speaker 11: new coaching staff. You know those guys here, they're down
- 9:43Speaker 11: to help us out when it comes down to learning
- 9:45Speaker 11: and taking it step by step. We're not looking too
- 9:48Speaker 11: far into the future, of course, but taking it one
- 9:51Speaker 11: day at a time.
- 9:51Speaker 10: And I like where we're going for sure.
- 9:52Speaker 11: First impressions of coach for Abel, it's one of those
- 9:56Speaker 11: situations to where he brings energy. You know, he means
- 9:59Speaker 11: what he means, and he shows the love and compassion
- 10:02Speaker 11: with it.
- 10:02Speaker 10: So love that for sure.
- 10:04Speaker 5: Yeah. Absolutely.
- 10:05Speaker 4: Just how are you feeling physically coming off of last
- 10:08Speaker 4: season and kind of where are you.
- 10:09Speaker 7: At with that.
- 10:10Speaker 11: Yeah, I'm feeling good. I'm feeling real good, just off
- 10:13Speaker 11: the fact of conditioning. It's still early in the process
- 10:18Speaker 11: of us, but as during the off season, I'm still
- 10:20Speaker 11: I was still working out doing all those things and everything.
- 10:23Speaker 10: So feeling good about that.
- 10:25Speaker 11: And like I said, we two weeks well not even
- 10:27Speaker 11: two weeks in yet, but just stacking the days for sure.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:30Speaker 9: Yeah, this this time just about getting the body ready,
- 10:33Speaker 9: starting to slay the foundation.
- 10:34Speaker 10: For sure where you're gonna get into it. Like I said,
- 10:36Speaker 10: it's so early.
- 10:38Speaker 11: You know, we're not looking too far, but it's great
- 10:40Speaker 11: to get back in the building, you know, get back
- 10:42Speaker 11: to working out, having some structure and everything. And also,
- 10:46Speaker 11: you know, learning the installs is very important.
- 10:48Speaker 5: Are you paying any attention to the draft or are
- 10:50Speaker 5: you one of those guys like, just tell me who
- 10:53Speaker 5: we pick and I'll pay attention afterwards.
- 10:54Speaker 11: What's crazy about the draft is like when you're in
- 10:57Speaker 11: it and you've been a part of it before, it's
- 10:59Speaker 11: just like, hey, whoever ends up coming, we're welcoming, Like
- 11:02Speaker 11: you know what I mean, So we're we're happy for
- 11:04Speaker 11: whoever ends up being a part of the team. And
- 11:06Speaker 11: at the end of the day, I mean, it's above
- 11:08Speaker 11: our pay grade. We don't get to choose at all,
- 11:10Speaker 11: so it's like why even stressed about that? But you know,
- 11:13Speaker 11: whoever they end up picking, you know, we know that
- 11:15Speaker 11: they're doing it for the sense of helping our team,
- 11:17Speaker 11: you know, end up building.
- 11:18Speaker 10: So we're happy with whoever they end up choosing for.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I left him off my big board. We me
- 11:23Speaker 1: and him, Evan, we've been doing were draft nerds. We
- 11:25Speaker 1: get way into it.
- 11:26Speaker 9: I've done like fifteen years, Like here are my fifty
- 11:28Speaker 9: favorite guys, and then they picked you, and like, how
- 11:30Speaker 9: the hell did I miss?
- 11:31Speaker 7: Marcus Jones Washington?
- 11:33Speaker 1: I know you got right, you out, you got the
- 11:35Speaker 1: mom and so I'm still living that one down.
- 11:37Speaker 6: But what are you gonna do?
- 11:39Speaker 4: You're one of those guys that are coming out of
- 11:40Speaker 4: the draft. You know, this time of year, we talk
- 11:42Speaker 4: a lot about measurables and all that kind of stuff,
- 11:45Speaker 4: and uh, that has always been something that's that to
- 11:48Speaker 4: me is that you know that never mattered for you, right,
- 11:51Speaker 4: you always played bigger than your.
- 11:52Speaker 7: Size and all that kind of stuff.
- 11:54Speaker 4: Like how I don't want to say overrated, but just
- 11:56Speaker 4: like how much does that really matter? Once you get
- 11:58Speaker 4: into we you know, a new to carve out a
- 12:01Speaker 4: role for yourself and figure it out just how to
- 12:03Speaker 4: play within yourself even if you are you know, not
- 12:06Speaker 4: considered this time of year like the ideal measurables.
- 12:09Speaker 11: Yeah, I would say the main thing whenever you know
- 12:12Speaker 11: coaches end up you know watching stuff, is usually they
- 12:15Speaker 11: watch film. You know, everyone has, you know weaknesses. You
- 12:19Speaker 11: know my weakness would be you know so called height.
- 12:22Speaker 11: However you know I make up for it in a
- 12:23Speaker 11: sense of speed, so it could be also you know
- 12:26Speaker 11: guys as big, you know, they'd be big, but they're
- 12:28Speaker 11: not as quick, you know. But if you have all
- 12:30Speaker 11: of it, then that that's great too. But it's just
- 12:33Speaker 11: one of those situations of knowing your weaknesses. You know,
- 12:35Speaker 11: in a professional level, everyone's good at something, you know
- 12:38Speaker 11: what I mean. But one thing that you can't teach
- 12:40Speaker 11: is you know, effort and finish, you know, which you
- 12:42Speaker 11: know if you do that most of the time, good
- 12:44Speaker 11: things will come your way. So that's one of those
- 12:47Speaker 11: things to where I just keep my mind on that,
- 12:49Speaker 11: you know, knowing you know where I am on the
- 12:51Speaker 11: feel who I'm going against, knowing how they like to
- 12:53Speaker 11: end up, you know, doing their releases or whatever. You know,
- 12:56Speaker 11: Studying film is a lot of it too, so kind
- 12:58Speaker 11: of going from there and just making sure you know
- 13:00Speaker 11: you're prepared at the end of the day.
- 13:01Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, we're inducting an old coach into the
- 13:04Speaker 5: Patriots Hall of Fame this year. Bill Parcells might have
- 13:06Speaker 5: heard of them, yeah, And one of the things he
- 13:08Speaker 5: always says is players need to know who they are, yeah,
- 13:10Speaker 5: you know, so they can play within themselves and they
- 13:13Speaker 5: can be the best of who they are. In short
- 13:15Speaker 5: of trying to be who they are, you know. Yeah,
- 13:18Speaker 5: so I hear what you're saying. Yeah.
- 13:19Speaker 9: I think one thing to stick out to me, just
- 13:21Speaker 9: with you is how sticky you are in man coverage
- 13:23Speaker 9: and how do you develop that And as you've gotten
- 13:25Speaker 9: into the pros, how do you have to continue to
- 13:27Speaker 9: learn to be able to stick with NFL elite wide receivers.
- 13:31Speaker 10: Yeah, when it came down to it.
- 13:34Speaker 11: In college, man, I had a whole bunch of coaches
- 13:37Speaker 11: that you just talked about. I discipline a lot, and
- 13:40Speaker 11: one thing that you know, what drove me crazy was like,
- 13:43Speaker 11: if I end up guarding a receiver and he catched
- 13:46Speaker 11: the ball, and I've seen him catch the ball, then
- 13:49Speaker 11: it just doesn't sit right with me because usually, you know,
- 13:52Speaker 11: if you end up getting beat on a route, which
- 13:53Speaker 11: is going to happen. But when you get beat on
- 13:55Speaker 11: a route and you watch the quarterback throw it, it's
- 13:57Speaker 11: like ah, man. But you know, it's a little bit
- 14:00Speaker 11: better from the sense of whenever you do get out
- 14:01Speaker 11: of a break and you're still watching the receiver and
- 14:03Speaker 11: then the ball comes you react or knock the ball down.
- 14:05Speaker 11: You know, those split second decisions and everything make a
- 14:08Speaker 11: big impact. You know, from the sense of a window
- 14:10Speaker 11: being open for a quarterback and not being open. So
- 14:13Speaker 11: that's my main thing, make sure my eyes is in
- 14:15Speaker 11: the right place. And then you know, if you do
- 14:17Speaker 11: have your eyes in the right place, you know, those
- 14:18Speaker 11: interceptions and know pvus and everything like that can happen.
- 14:21Speaker 10: For sure.
- 14:21Speaker 1: It's like one false step in this league.
- 14:23Speaker 10: Yeah, like there's milliseconds when they come down to it.
- 14:25Speaker 4: Yeah, when it comes to coach Rabel and this defense,
- 14:29Speaker 4: you know, what what do you do to prepare to
- 14:31Speaker 4: get ready for training camps with the install and with
- 14:34Speaker 4: the system and things like that, so you can kind
- 14:36Speaker 4: of hit the ground running.
- 14:37Speaker 11: Yeah, this this time, in this phase of just the
- 14:41Speaker 11: off season is basically you know, learning the small things,
- 14:44Speaker 11: you know, learning basically the philosophy of us as a
- 14:47Speaker 11: team and then also as a defense.
- 14:49Speaker 10: So that's the main thing that we're going with.
- 14:51Speaker 11: And then also you know we're early in the install
- 14:53Speaker 11: kind of going from there and then you know we'll
- 14:55Speaker 11: get into phase two and phase three and getting onto
- 14:57Speaker 11: the field. But just the classroom, that's that's the main
- 15:00Speaker 11: thing that we're working on right now. And then as
- 15:03Speaker 11: time goes on and everything like that, we'll repeat certain things.
- 15:06Speaker 10: All right, we need to go over this again and
- 15:08Speaker 10: kind of go from there.
- 15:08Speaker 11: But it's classroom right now, and then you know you
- 15:11Speaker 11: got to be able to do all of it classroom,
- 15:13Speaker 11: apply it to the field walkthroughs, and then get to
- 15:15Speaker 11: you know, full speed. So it's propost for sure. Yeah,
- 15:19Speaker 11: it don't just happen just right just like that. You know,
- 15:21Speaker 11: it takes time, for sure.
- 15:22Speaker 4: Did they show you like Titans tape? Like what do
- 15:25Speaker 4: they kind of show you in terms of film like
- 15:27Speaker 4: to watch? They say, you know, we use a specific
- 15:30Speaker 4: guy in Tennessee that we think will use it similarly
- 15:33Speaker 4: to kind of that.
- 15:33Speaker 10: Yeah, I'm not really gonna say that.
- 15:35Speaker 11: It's like we watch film just in general because at
- 15:38Speaker 11: the end of the day, like our coaches have been
- 15:40Speaker 11: in different places, you know what I mean. So it's
- 15:42Speaker 11: not really to where we're just looking at one team,
- 15:44Speaker 11: you know, and then it comes down to the situation
- 15:47Speaker 11: of us. You know, we've ran certain things as well,
- 15:49Speaker 11: so it's all thirty two teams honestly.
- 15:52Speaker 5: You know, well, listen, we could talk to you all day.
- 15:54Speaker 5: I know you got other things. We appreciate you stopping by,
- 15:58Speaker 5: and you know, you get your music, you got your
- 16:00Speaker 5: color you're a colorists, you're doing all that stuff. If
- 16:03Speaker 5: you want to do a podcast, this is the place.
- 16:05Speaker 10: Okay, I appreciate you.
- 16:07Speaker 5: Okay, we'll do the Marcus Jones podcast whenever you're ready.
- 16:11Speaker 10: Definitely make that happen. I appreciate you guys so much.
- 16:14Speaker 5: Thank you for coming in.
- 16:15Speaker 10: Oh yeah, for sure, thank you, thank you, thank.
- 16:16Speaker 12: You, Marcus Jones.
- 16:21Speaker 5: Everybody nice. Nice to see him here. See the rest
- 16:26Speaker 5: of the guys back.
- 16:28Speaker 9: I just get a kick out of this because it's
- 16:29Speaker 9: that this is so long with this show. I've kind
- 16:32Speaker 9: of wanted this to be the case where guys could
- 16:35Speaker 9: just step in and say a quick hello and right
- 16:37Speaker 9: they go right by.
- 16:37Speaker 1: It is great, right, we're in the name stop in. Yeah,
- 16:41Speaker 1: we're all friends. We're talking music.
- 16:43Speaker 7: I can't believe you had him off your big board deuce. Yeah,
- 16:46Speaker 7: how did that?
- 16:48Speaker 10: I know?
- 16:48Speaker 9: It was one of my regret ones. You know when
- 16:49Speaker 9: you're you know, when you're at this point right now
- 16:50Speaker 9: where you're like thinking about guys and you know, it's
- 16:53Speaker 9: just I think they really needed a return or too,
- 16:55Speaker 9: and they need a slot guy. And yeah, that was
- 16:57Speaker 9: one that him specifically that I was just like, man
- 17:00Speaker 9: one I took off, and you know he's in the mix,
- 17:02Speaker 9: but I'm.
- 17:03Speaker 7: Dis messing with you.
- 17:04Speaker 4: But the three phases, right, I mean, especially you know
- 17:08Speaker 4: that was obviously still Belichick, and just the fact that
- 17:11Speaker 4: he could play offense, defense, and special teams.
- 17:14Speaker 7: I was like, how could this guy not be a Patriot?
- 17:17Speaker 4: And I remember doing some research on him and he
- 17:19Speaker 4: had all sorts of coaching connections to Steve and you know,
- 17:23Speaker 4: the Patriots and all this type of stuff through you know, Rutgers,
- 17:26Speaker 4: and like it was the whole thing.
- 17:28Speaker 5: I was tempted to ask him about Travis Hunter and
- 17:30Speaker 5: all that stuff, but I didn't want to put him
- 17:32Speaker 5: on the spot. I know, I don't want to put
- 17:33Speaker 5: him you know, talking about another player and all that.
- 17:36Speaker 7: But yeah, he was asked about it, yea last week.
- 17:38Speaker 5: Yeah, what did he say.
- 17:39Speaker 7: He said, it'd be tough.
- 17:40Speaker 4: It'd be tough to play both ways full time, he said,
- 17:44Speaker 4: I'm not ruling it out, and everybody's different, you know everybody.
- 17:48Speaker 4: You know, I wouldn't put any ceilings on anyone, but
- 17:51Speaker 4: he said it would it would be pretty tough.
- 17:53Speaker 5: But I mean, you know, he's not full time, but
- 17:56Speaker 5: he's a three way player, right, Yeah, you know for sure.
- 17:59Speaker 5: So we don't need I have a Hunter, right.
- 18:01Speaker 9: We need all the weapons we can get. I'm excited
- 18:04Speaker 9: to just see what Josh.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Thinks of him, what Josh is gonna do with him
- 18:06Speaker 1: a little bit maybe, you know.
- 18:07Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, definitely.
- 18:08Speaker 4: In like the Gadget game, like the screens and things
- 18:11Speaker 4: like that, like that, that touchdown against Buffalo like always
- 18:14Speaker 4: stands out to me, just even if it's just once
- 18:16Speaker 4: or twice a game, we throw a screen to him
- 18:18Speaker 4: and then you can use him as a decoy once
- 18:20Speaker 4: you set up the fact that you will throw him
- 18:22Speaker 4: a screen every once in a while. So he's he's
- 18:25Speaker 4: a useful player, and you know he's not. He didn't
- 18:28Speaker 4: play quite as much full time on both sides like
- 18:31Speaker 4: Travis Hunter did, but in the league, he's probably the
- 18:33Speaker 4: closest thing that we have a cornerback, you know, wide
- 18:37Speaker 4: receiver on offense to Travis Hunter.
- 18:40Speaker 2: Yep.
- 18:41Speaker 6: So yeah, I don't know if too many other guys.
- 18:43Speaker 6: I can't even think of one off the top of
- 18:45Speaker 6: my head playing both ways.
- 18:46Speaker 5: All right, So what were we talking about before we
- 18:48Speaker 5: came in. We're talking about the draft back of the envelope. Yeah,
- 18:52Speaker 5: and so we were about to start talking about the
- 18:55Speaker 5: latest that the Giants are going to have another private
- 18:58Speaker 5: workout with Shoudorce.
- 19:00Speaker 9: Paul's got this all laid out right now. He's got
- 19:02Speaker 9: the complete beat on what we just did our I.
- 19:04Speaker 6: Think it's great though. I think it's it's great. Uh
- 19:06Speaker 6: you know, I think people are trying to make too.
- 19:09Speaker 6: That's part of my reasoning. I think this is sort
- 19:12Speaker 6: of the Giants putting a big sign saying open for
- 19:14Speaker 6: business at the top.
- 19:15Speaker 5: I think so too.
- 19:16Speaker 6: I know, yeah, because I don't think that they have
- 19:19Speaker 6: a lot of interest in drafting Shudeau Sanders at three. Now,
- 19:23Speaker 6: the news with the Saints that came out over the
- 19:26Speaker 6: weekend about Derek Carr. You know, maybe they're trying to say, hey,
- 19:30Speaker 6: you you really need him now, we'll take them. We're
- 19:33Speaker 6: interested in Sanders, so if you, you know, don't rule
- 19:35Speaker 6: it out. I think it's hard to convince someone that
- 19:38Speaker 6: you're going to take them if you're looking to trade
- 19:41Speaker 6: with that, you know what I mean. Like so, I
- 19:43Speaker 6: think they're trying to just sort of drum up some
- 19:45Speaker 6: some business patriots.
- 19:46Speaker 9: Last year a little bit when they probably knew they
- 19:48Speaker 9: were taking Drake May. But they're at least putting out
- 19:50Speaker 9: there like I don't know, we'd be open to here stuff.
- 19:52Speaker 6: But yeah, And the difference with that is there were
- 19:55Speaker 6: other options, Like you could legitimately convince somebody, well, I
- 19:59Speaker 6: really want Jayden Daniels. But if I can't get Jayden Daniels,
- 20:02Speaker 6: then it makes no difference to me whether it's Drake
- 20:04Speaker 6: may or JJ McCarthy or Bo Nicks. You could convince
- 20:08Speaker 6: someone of that this if if I don't want Shadas Sanders,
- 20:12Speaker 6: you know, does it Jackson Dart I think that's a
- 20:15Speaker 6: tough sell.
- 20:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:17Speaker 5: So I'm wondering, like, has there ever been an incident
- 20:20Speaker 5: in the history of the draft where a team went
- 20:24Speaker 5: for this private workout and changed their mind, Like like
- 20:28Speaker 5: something in the private workout change their Yeah, I just
- 20:32Speaker 5: don't know, Like I know it's you know, Famously, Dante
- 20:36Speaker 5: Scarnakia went out and worked out Nate Solder in Colorado
- 20:41Speaker 5: like two days before the draft and then came back
- 20:44Speaker 5: and suggested that they take him, and they did in
- 20:46Speaker 5: the second round. But this is first round. Walmar was
- 20:50Speaker 5: a first round pick. Oh, Solder, I'm sorry, Yeah, Solder
- 20:55Speaker 5: was a first round pick.
- 20:56Speaker 6: You're good, You're doing good. Yeah, doing good.
- 20:58Speaker 5: But I'm but this is a little bit more drastic
- 21:01Speaker 5: than that. If if they ended up because of this
- 21:04Speaker 5: taking him high in the first round.
- 21:07Speaker 6: Uh so, I don't know if it's been a smoke
- 21:09Speaker 6: screen all along.
- 21:10Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't know.
- 21:11Speaker 6: Maybe they have really been interested in I'd.
- 21:13Speaker 5: Love to know if there was a team that that
- 21:15Speaker 5: last workout did it for them.
- 21:17Speaker 1: Well, I ask you, Fred, You've interviewed a lot of people.
- 21:19Speaker 9: Have you ever had somebody you think you like, you
- 21:20Speaker 9: get to a final interview, You're like, let's just bring
- 21:22Speaker 9: this guy in to make sure and then yeah.
- 21:23Speaker 1: They kind of pooped the bed.
- 21:24Speaker 5: Yeah sure, yeah, both ways. Yeah, some people wow in
- 21:28Speaker 5: that interview, but it wasn't like you can't compare it
- 21:31Speaker 5: to him.
- 21:31Speaker 9: Yeah, really you know physically, I mean you think it'd
- 21:34Speaker 9: be more physical or mental like Yeah.
- 21:35Speaker 5: So I guess the second part to my question is
- 21:38Speaker 5: what could Shadoor Sanders do at this last meeting to
- 21:42Speaker 5: actually flip their mind and say, you know what, he's
- 21:45Speaker 5: our guy.
- 21:46Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 21:47Speaker 4: What I wonder is this them at the top of
- 21:52Speaker 4: the second round doing homework on Shador to potentially trade
- 21:56Speaker 4: back into the first round and draft shed Door at
- 21:58Speaker 4: the end of the first round.
- 22:00Speaker 7: I think there's just as much of a.
- 22:01Speaker 4: Possibility that that is the scenario here that there could be, oh,
- 22:06Speaker 4: you know, kind of going through in their heads and
- 22:08Speaker 4: him going at the top of the first And you know,
- 22:10Speaker 4: the team that I continue to look at in that
- 22:13Speaker 4: respect is Pittsburgh, who's sitting there I think twenty one
- 22:17Speaker 4: somewhere around there, And I feel like, if you're gonna
- 22:20Speaker 4: do that, then you have to get above Pittsburgh. Like
- 22:22Speaker 4: I can't imagine that he's going to get past Pittsburgh. So,
- 22:26Speaker 4: you know, to the question about this visit and all that,
- 22:30Speaker 4: it does smell.
- 22:32Speaker 7: Like ownership involvement.
- 22:34Speaker 4: And we talked a little bit about this on the
- 22:36Speaker 4: Draft Show last year. They passed on Bonnicks, they passed
- 22:41Speaker 4: on Michael Pennix, They passed on JJ McCarthy who didn't play,
- 22:44Speaker 4: But those two other quarterbacks had promising rookie seasons. And
- 22:49Speaker 4: if you're the Maras and you're the Giants, do you
- 22:51Speaker 4: look at your your football people and say, why isn't
- 22:55Speaker 4: Bonnicks on our team right now?
- 22:57Speaker 2: Right?
- 22:57Speaker 4: And are let's make sure one hundred percent that we're
- 23:01Speaker 4: not passing on a starting quarterback two years in a row,
- 23:05Speaker 4: And I just wonder if that that's what's coming up now,
- 23:08Speaker 4: is ownership has gotten involved and said, wait a second, like,
- 23:11Speaker 4: we're not going to draft the quarterback again like we
- 23:14Speaker 4: just did this last year that we passed on all
- 23:15Speaker 4: these quarterbacks. We're not going to draft the quarterback again. Like,
- 23:19Speaker 4: let's make sure, let's go back and make sure that
- 23:21Speaker 4: we're one hundred percent.
- 23:22Speaker 5: How do the Giants view their team currently? The roster
- 23:25Speaker 5: they like, you know, last year we went into we
- 23:28Speaker 5: went into this the same we need talent. Like what's
- 23:30Speaker 5: the Giants assessment of their own roster? Like do they
- 23:33Speaker 5: feel like we've got talent, We just need a quarterback
- 23:37Speaker 5: because they've got the receiver, you know, or a receiver anyway,
- 23:41Speaker 5: they have.
- 23:41Speaker 6: Some talent, but they're a long way away. Yeah, I think,
- 23:44Speaker 6: I mean just watching neighbors that who else? Yeah, I mean,
- 23:48Speaker 6: and that's they had a promising rookie running back last
- 23:52Speaker 6: year that played pretty well for them. I think their
- 23:54Speaker 6: offensive line has improved, but it's still not what I
- 23:57Speaker 6: would consider really good. They had to move a inside
- 24:00Speaker 6: to guard Evan Neil, right, But so.
- 24:04Speaker 5: The reason I asked is, like, if Evan's right and
- 24:07Speaker 5: ownership stepped in. I could see the reason they stepped
- 24:10Speaker 5: in is, you know, hey, you know my front office,
- 24:15Speaker 5: you keep telling us that we've got a pretty good roster,
- 24:18Speaker 5: let's get the quarterback, and maybe they do put pressure.
- 24:20Speaker 6: On them to do that. Yeah, I mean, I think
- 24:22Speaker 6: Evan's right that that happens. I'm just not sure that
- 24:26Speaker 6: it's going to happen at three. I just feel like
- 24:29Speaker 6: if they liked him, I think you I don't think
- 24:32Speaker 6: you'd have all of this question about where Shadas Sanders
- 24:34Speaker 6: is going to go if one of those two teams
- 24:36Speaker 6: really liked them.
- 24:37Speaker 2: No.
- 24:37Speaker 5: No, But what I'm saying is this, at this point,
- 24:40Speaker 5: ownership said, you better do more due diligence on this
- 24:44Speaker 5: guy before you rule, because you keep telling me that,
- 24:48Speaker 5: we keep telling me that we're not that far away
- 24:50Speaker 5: roster wise, Well, then get back and take a second
- 24:54Speaker 5: look at this guy. I don't know.
- 24:56Speaker 4: I was thinking, if you pass on your door and
- 24:58Speaker 4: I'm not saying that they should or shouldn't, but if
- 25:00Speaker 4: you pass on Chador and you run the risk of
- 25:02Speaker 4: him going to Pittsburgh, New Orleans wherever, if he has
- 25:06Speaker 4: a great rookie season, you're out.
- 25:08Speaker 7: Like here, that's it, because you're.
- 25:09Speaker 1: Never going to let you live it down either. He's
- 25:10Speaker 1: gonna bring that one up, right, Like twice, these guys.
- 25:13Speaker 5: Lose their jobs if that happens, don't you think?
- 25:16Speaker 7: Right?
- 25:16Speaker 4: Yeah, So you if you're Brian Dable and you're Joe Shane,
- 25:19Speaker 4: you have to be one hundred and ten percent sure
- 25:21Speaker 4: that Chador is not the guy, right, that he's not
- 25:23Speaker 4: that level of quarterback. And if you're wrong, then you're
- 25:26Speaker 4: probably out of a job.
- 25:27Speaker 5: So back to my question, what could he do at
- 25:30Speaker 5: this last meeting to flip their mind? Is it? Is
- 25:32Speaker 5: it more forget about the on field stuff and he
- 25:36Speaker 5: convinces them with his personality?
- 25:39Speaker 9: Yeah, and that's it to me because you know with
- 25:41Speaker 9: practice that he's going to present is one of confidence.
- 25:43Speaker 1: Of of course you guys should pick me. Are you crazy?
- 25:46Speaker 9: And that's why, Like I don't know, maybe they will
- 25:48Speaker 9: be turned off by his over confidence or his maybe
- 25:51Speaker 9: he sweeps under the.
- 25:52Speaker 1: Rug some of the things that he has to work on.
- 25:54Speaker 6: I don't know, But but does he project a lot
- 25:55Speaker 6: of intangibles like this guy might not be the most
- 25:58Speaker 6: talented passor that that's come up out, but man, he's
- 26:01Speaker 6: a leader. He can do. In New York media, people
- 26:03Speaker 6: people want to play for him. Maybe that's what you
- 26:05Speaker 6: could Yeah, you know, yeah.
- 26:08Speaker 4: Throwing the ball against air is not going to make
- 26:11Speaker 4: you all of a sudden think that this guy is
- 26:13Speaker 4: a franchise quarterback. It's we're going to take him out
- 26:15Speaker 4: to dinner and we're going to get him, you know,
- 26:16Speaker 4: out of his comfort zone a little bit, get him
- 26:18Speaker 4: out of his shell.
- 26:19Speaker 7: You know, what kind of person is he? What kind
- 26:21Speaker 7: of personality does he have?
- 26:22Speaker 5: Could you guys see like if you were in the
- 26:24Speaker 5: position of the Giants, could you see someone doing that
- 26:26Speaker 5: to you, like having that type of impression. We say,
- 26:30Speaker 5: you know what, any shortcomings that we saw in film,
- 26:34Speaker 5: this guy can overcome it.
- 26:36Speaker 1: For me.
- 26:37Speaker 9: Like, what I would love to see if I were
- 26:38Speaker 9: in an interview with him is to see the other
- 26:41Speaker 9: side of him, To not see the presentation that obviously
- 26:44Speaker 9: Dion always had the prime you know that the character
- 26:47Speaker 9: that he kind of plays.
- 26:48Speaker 1: I'd love to just see the real guy.
- 26:50Speaker 9: And really, you know, the the guy that understands that
- 26:53Speaker 9: no matter how good he is or isn't going to
- 26:55Speaker 9: be or is, it's he's going to have to work.
- 26:57Speaker 9: He's going to have to go through some ups and downs,
- 26:58Speaker 9: you know, like the overly confident just projecting like you're
- 27:02Speaker 9: an idiot if you don't take me like to me
- 27:04Speaker 9: that I find that a little bit off putting. I'd
- 27:05Speaker 9: like to see more of like, look, I understand there
- 27:08Speaker 9: are things I got to work on. This is what
- 27:09Speaker 9: I'm you know, like that kind of perspective on his
- 27:12Speaker 9: career rather than just this unstoppable confidence that that he
- 27:16Speaker 9: has that he needs.
- 27:17Speaker 1: But I don't know that that's a big.
- 27:18Speaker 6: Part of the whole thing. One of the main reasons
- 27:21Speaker 6: why I kind of feel like this is just sort
- 27:24Speaker 6: of window dressing is because of the reaction over the weekend. Like,
- 27:27Speaker 6: first it was Derek Carr, the news that he First
- 27:29Speaker 6: of all, you know, Eva and I talked about this
- 27:31Speaker 6: a little bit earlier too. The Derek Carr news didn't
- 27:35Speaker 6: come as a surprise to the Saints. You know, maybe
- 27:38Speaker 6: people you know, like us didn't know that he potentially
- 27:42Speaker 6: would be out for the whole year. But the Saints
- 27:44Speaker 6: knew that he's dealing with something significant, did they. Yeah,
- 27:48Speaker 6: this didn't come out of nowhere for them. The second
- 27:50Speaker 6: part of it is all of us and all of
- 27:52Speaker 6: a sudden. You know that the reaction, the Twitter reaction
- 27:55Speaker 6: of like the shifters and the field. Yeah, oh, and
- 27:59Speaker 6: who's broadcasting that draft? Oh, ESPN might stand to get
- 28:04Speaker 6: a little drama out of it. And then you know,
- 28:05Speaker 6: you coincide that with the news that the Giants are
- 28:08Speaker 6: bringing in Sanders and how many people tweeted, it just
- 28:11Speaker 6: gets more interesting. Oh, there's you know, this is I
- 28:14Speaker 6: believe there have been no everybody is slated to have
- 28:18Speaker 6: a first round pick. There's nobody has two right now, right,
- 28:21Speaker 6: and that's never happened.
- 28:23Speaker 7: Everybody has their own pick.
- 28:24Speaker 6: Everybody has their own pick now in general, I don't
- 28:29Speaker 6: know there's like more, it's not never, but it's also
- 28:34Speaker 6: very uncommon for no trades. And they're all starting to
- 28:38Speaker 6: tweet it out now like that will change coming. That's
- 28:41Speaker 6: kind of like, you know, this to me is a
- 28:43Speaker 6: combination of you're promoting your television show, which you absolutely
- 28:47Speaker 6: should be doing. I don't think there's nothing wrong with that.
- 28:50Speaker 6: And I think they're also promoting don because I think
- 28:53Speaker 6: that it's important to these guys to have an ally
- 28:56Speaker 6: and Dion Sanders, he's a pretty important guy to have
- 28:59Speaker 6: a new corner. I would think if you're one of
- 29:02Speaker 6: these guys, you know you're tweeting, it doesn't it's not
- 29:04Speaker 6: going to hurt your standing if you have him in
- 29:07Speaker 6: your corner. And I think that's part of this, because
- 29:10Speaker 6: I think the NFL is telling you that they're not
- 29:12Speaker 6: sold on Shadoor Sanders, right, or they would do. You
- 29:15Speaker 6: hear people saying that cam Wood may not may or
- 29:18Speaker 6: may not go in the top three, right, But you're
- 29:21Speaker 6: hearing everybody say some people are suggesting you could get
- 29:24Speaker 6: pulled in the second round, right, And I think that
- 29:28Speaker 6: the people that is, you know, the Giant, you know,
- 29:30Speaker 6: Diana Russini, The Giants are still still interested in you know,
- 29:33Speaker 6: they're very strongly interested in quarterbacks in this draft, even
- 29:36Speaker 6: before the Saints. They're very strongly interested, even before the
- 29:39Speaker 6: Derek Carr news. Like, yeah, if they were strongly interested
- 29:43Speaker 6: in Shadua Sanders, the Browns and the Giants have no
- 29:47Speaker 6: real long term solution at quarterback, right, right, they're not
- 29:52Speaker 6: convinced about Shadoor Sanders, are they be taking them?
- 29:54Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 29:55Speaker 7: That's what I get back to.
- 29:57Speaker 4: It's the top of the second round thing, because that
- 30:00Speaker 4: would make more sense to me just based off of
- 30:02Speaker 4: everything that we've heard about this quarterback class basically going
- 30:06Speaker 4: back to last fall, that this wasn't a quarterback draft
- 30:09Speaker 4: and it wasn't a great quarterback class at the top.
- 30:12Speaker 4: And you know, the reporting down in New Orleans is
- 30:14Speaker 4: that they're not very high on Shador either of the Saints.
- 30:17Speaker 4: So like they might be a mill Row team or
- 30:19Speaker 4: a Jackson Dart team or something like that. And like,
- 30:22Speaker 4: all these quarterbacks to me, like Dart, mill Row, maybe
- 30:26Speaker 4: even Chador or and of the first early second round talent.
- 30:29Speaker 4: So maybe that's where they all end up going. And
- 30:32Speaker 4: these teams at the top of the draft that need quarterbacks,
- 30:35Speaker 4: maybe they draft them all with their second round picks
- 30:38Speaker 4: instead of their first round picks. And yeah, you know,
- 30:40Speaker 4: this workout could be just as much about you know,
- 30:43Speaker 4: the thirty fourth pick in the draft as it is
- 30:45Speaker 4: the third pick in the draft.
- 30:46Speaker 1: I'd be shocked. I'd be shocked if he makes it
- 30:48Speaker 1: past fifteen.
- 30:49Speaker 9: I just think any NFL team that passes on him
- 30:51Speaker 9: has to kind of thumb their nose in the conventional
- 30:55Speaker 9: wisdom in the NFL. Like last year, we didn't expect
- 30:57Speaker 9: all those quarterbacks to go. I mean, we were talking
- 30:59Speaker 9: the same thing about Bo, Nicks and Penix as early
- 31:02Speaker 9: round two guys, I think the NFL valley's quarterbacks too much.
- 31:05Speaker 1: Right now, he's going to if that's true, Mike.
- 31:08Speaker 5: If he does go top fifteen, two of the most
- 31:11Speaker 5: neediest quarterback teams are in the top five.
- 31:14Speaker 6: Yeah, so it doesn't make I'm not expecting him to
- 31:17Speaker 6: go in the top fifteen. I think Devons. I think
- 31:19Speaker 6: Devon's twenty one. Pittsburgh might have to think long and hard.
- 31:24Speaker 6: But I if I had to pick right now, top
- 31:28Speaker 6: fifteen or second round, I'd pick second round.
- 31:30Speaker 1: Yeah, this is good, this will be interesting. I mean,
- 31:34Speaker 1: I'm a good pier.
- 31:35Speaker 9: I feel pretty strong about progress about I think he'll
- 31:39Speaker 9: go in the top fifteen.
- 31:40Speaker 1: I really do.
- 31:40Speaker 6: Yeah, I think if anybody liked him, he'd be going
- 31:42Speaker 6: two or three.
- 31:43Speaker 9: But did you think but do we really hear I
- 31:45Speaker 9: mean maybe do we hear that about Nix? Of do
- 31:47Speaker 9: we have any kind of sense that Nick and Penix
- 31:49Speaker 9: were gonna go as high as they did?
- 31:50Speaker 6: Pennix, yes, Nicks, no, But a lot of people there
- 31:53Speaker 6: were people in Boston that liked Penix the most out
- 31:57Speaker 6: of all the quarterbacks. Now no one, But.
- 31:59Speaker 5: It wasn't like Eldred.
- 32:02Speaker 6: No, but I mean like people on my shows, and
- 32:06Speaker 6: admittedly they watched so little, and all of a sudden
- 32:10Speaker 6: they watch like the National semifinal game, and they become
- 32:14Speaker 6: enamored with him, you know, But bo Nicks, I don't.
- 32:18Speaker 6: I didn't hear it. To Mike's point, I didn't hear
- 32:19Speaker 6: anybody talking about bow Nicks as a.
- 32:21Speaker 1: I just I think they're terrified.
- 32:24Speaker 9: I think the giants are terrified. I think they're terrified.
- 32:26Speaker 9: Like Evan said, a missing on him, and not only
- 32:28Speaker 9: would you miss on him, you're then going to hear
- 32:30Speaker 9: it from Deon Sanders and from Sugar Sanders the rest
- 32:32Speaker 9: of their careers about how you.
- 32:33Speaker 1: Passed on him.
- 32:35Speaker 9: So many of these NFL teams operate the draft from
- 32:37Speaker 9: a place of fear, and this is the position.
- 32:39Speaker 6: So what would be the biggest What would be the
- 32:42Speaker 6: bigger mistake? Missing on him if he's good, well, taking
- 32:47Speaker 6: him if he's bad it's another good.
- 32:49Speaker 5: Taking a good one.
- 32:50Speaker 1: I think taking him if he's bad.
- 32:51Speaker 6: Just let me know when you want me to just
- 32:53Speaker 6: take over as a PD here missing him, if you
- 32:56Speaker 6: facilitating the.
- 32:57Speaker 5: Play you end up picking is really good. Alleviate's missing
- 33:00Speaker 5: him if he's good. But if you take him, you're
- 33:03Speaker 5: stuck with him, and he'd better be good. If he's not,
- 33:06Speaker 5: that's you've just waited.
- 33:07Speaker 6: Like if abdul Cotter turns out to be Miles Garrett
- 33:10Speaker 6: and they take abdul Cotter instead of Sanders and Sanders
- 33:13Speaker 6: is good, you're okay.
- 33:15Speaker 5: Yeah, we took a you know, pro bowler.
- 33:18Speaker 6: But if you take him any stinks you're screwed. And
- 33:21Speaker 6: you know, like everybody keeps saying, yeah, Shane and Dable
- 33:26Speaker 6: are out. If they pass on him and he turns
- 33:28Speaker 6: out to be good, well they're out. If they they
- 33:30Speaker 6: take him and he turns out to be bad, Yeah,
- 33:33Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 33:33Speaker 4: But like last year, they took Neighbors, who's a great player,
- 33:37Speaker 4: and we all agree is a great player.
- 33:39Speaker 7: But if bow.
- 33:40Speaker 4: Knicks's rookie season wasn't just a one off and he's that,
- 33:44Speaker 4: that's bo Nicks.
- 33:45Speaker 7: You're in and you're out.
- 33:46Speaker 6: You're in trouble.
- 33:47Speaker 7: You're in trouble like that, you're gonna be the team.
- 33:48Speaker 6: That might Sanders is good. They're in trouble, no doubt,
- 33:52Speaker 6: Like I think is bad and they take him.
- 33:56Speaker 5: Yeah, but if they do take Sanders, do they buy
- 33:59Speaker 5: a couple of years.
- 34:00Speaker 6: I don't think so. No. I mean I think I
- 34:03Speaker 6: think they take Sanders because I don't think they're gonna
- 34:05Speaker 6: win any games, and I think they're gonna get shown
- 34:07Speaker 6: the door in some ways.
- 34:08Speaker 9: Sanders is the perfect guy to test this though, just
- 34:10Speaker 9: because he's so confident and he just exudes somebody who
- 34:13Speaker 9: seems assured that they're going to be a top NFL player.
- 34:17Speaker 9: So it's it's a collision of NFL teams maybe overvaluing
- 34:21Speaker 9: the quarterback position and taking dumb chances on it, and
- 34:25Speaker 9: a quarterback who exudes like, if y'all don't take me.
- 34:27Speaker 6: The document for your top fifteen is that the NFL
- 34:30Speaker 6: has often done done things when it comes to quarterbacks.
- 34:34Speaker 5: Now your ilk online the bloggers, as soon as this
- 34:39Speaker 5: giant story started circulating, they got all excited because this
- 34:43Speaker 5: is the pathway to abdul Carter.
- 34:45Speaker 2: Right.
- 34:46Speaker 1: I guess I've been riding that roller coaster.
- 34:49Speaker 9: Of I gave him up like two weeks into my
- 34:51Speaker 9: draft research because I'm like, he's way too good. There's
- 34:53Speaker 9: no way he's getting a four, and somehow.
- 34:55Speaker 1: Like, now, no, there's a chance.
- 34:57Speaker 6: But now they're putting all this stuff out about the
- 35:00Speaker 6: bad guy he is, and I and I was like
- 35:02Speaker 6: looking for specifics as to with the bad you know,
- 35:04Speaker 6: like I saw that Phil not really he probably won't
- 35:08Speaker 6: be a captain any time. Okay, I mean terrible guy.
- 35:11Speaker 9: I only lead right who played through crazy injury and
- 35:16Speaker 9: he played with one arm once.
- 35:17Speaker 6: If I heard, all I hear about is that football
- 35:20Speaker 6: is not all that important to him. He's he's kind
- 35:22Speaker 6: of selfish. And I saw a guy in college when
- 35:25Speaker 6: in an era of college sports where guys are bagging
- 35:28Speaker 6: out of games left and right to protect their quote brand,
- 35:32Speaker 6: he's out there playing with one arm and playing at
- 35:34Speaker 6: a very high level with one arm, and evidently with
- 35:37Speaker 6: a foot injury that I don't know may or may
- 35:39Speaker 6: not be career ending. I got a little if you
- 35:44Speaker 6: can't tell, I've gotten a little annoyed with how bad
- 35:46Speaker 6: of a person Abdul Carter.
- 35:48Speaker 4: Suddenly I think you'd be crazy to draft him in
- 35:52Speaker 4: the top three ball.
- 35:53Speaker 7: What are you talking?
- 35:54Speaker 6: And this isn't really even like a like normally that's
- 35:57Speaker 6: that's where I would go, Oh, big surprise the Patriots.
- 36:00Speaker 6: You know, Cartel is putting it out there. I don't
- 36:02Speaker 6: think this is like gaining steam. Yeah, Like, I don't
- 36:06Speaker 6: think that he's the ideal football guy. Like I told you,
- 36:09Speaker 6: I talked to a teammate of his who said he's
- 36:12Speaker 6: a little different, but he's really committed to being great.
- 36:17Speaker 6: And when you put something about like how important football
- 36:21Speaker 6: is to him, and Mike hit the nail on the head,
- 36:23Speaker 6: like his postseason performance playing the way that Boise State
- 36:28Speaker 6: game in the Notre Dame in game, like he couldn't
- 36:31Speaker 6: even stay on the field. He's running off the field
- 36:32Speaker 6: with one arm like drape down the whole time. That's
- 36:35Speaker 6: a guy who wanted to win. I'm sorry. That was
- 36:38Speaker 6: a guy who was given max effort and wanted to win.
- 36:41Speaker 9: He's also just a guy that you can tell is
- 36:43Speaker 9: so loaded with just natural talent that he's not one
- 36:46Speaker 9: of those guys that has to be the you know,
- 36:49Speaker 9: for better or worse.
- 36:49Speaker 1: Doesn't have to be the first guy in, last guy
- 36:51Speaker 1: out putting all.
- 36:52Speaker 9: He's just naturally gifted and you're hoping that when he
- 36:54Speaker 9: gets into an NFL program where he's now being pushed
- 36:57Speaker 9: by players who are maybe not quite as good but
- 36:59Speaker 9: have similar talent sets, and now he puts a little
- 37:02Speaker 9: work in now he's going to go even farther.
- 37:04Speaker 1: But he's just so freaking talented.
- 37:06Speaker 2: It's risk.
- 37:06Speaker 6: I mean, you never know what these guys.
- 37:08Speaker 4: But I just look at this the same way as
- 37:11Speaker 4: you're listening to Christian Gonzalez talk now in hindsight about
- 37:16Speaker 4: how people thought he was.
- 37:17Speaker 7: Quiet and he wasn't like an alpha and.
- 37:19Speaker 4: He wasn't that like number one corner with the with
- 37:22Speaker 4: the outward personality and all that stuff. And you know,
- 37:25Speaker 4: year two he's his second team All Pro. It's really
- 37:27Speaker 4: the best. Like this is like teams overthink this kind
- 37:31Speaker 4: of stuff. I don't know if it will happen with
- 37:32Speaker 4: Abdul Carter, but I hope it does, like go ahead
- 37:35Speaker 4: like they did.
- 37:36Speaker 6: I hope it does too, because I'll take him at Yeah,
- 37:37Speaker 6: I feel a lot better about that pick up four
- 37:39Speaker 6: than really any of the other options they say.
- 37:41Speaker 4: You know, Monday through Saturday, he's not always like as
- 37:45Speaker 4: locked in as you would like. Well on Sunday when
- 37:49Speaker 4: the game comes around, I know, point like, I know,
- 37:52Speaker 4: I know what I'm.
- 37:53Speaker 6: Saying, right, Yeah, he's never locked in.
- 37:56Speaker 5: He Alex cause somebody helped Evan with his microphone. It's
- 38:00Speaker 5: about to molest them, so it's like, yeah, it's it's drooping,
- 38:06Speaker 5: like nobody home just tightening.
- 38:10Speaker 1: It just doesn't want to one of the joints.
- 38:13Speaker 6: But I will say, like we started off the whole
- 38:15Speaker 6: show with saying like the draft is right around the corner,
- 38:18Speaker 6: and it is. It's starting to get that sort of
- 38:22Speaker 6: anticipation appreciates, which I think this stuff has been really
- 38:25Speaker 6: good for that, you know, the the meeting with Sanders
- 38:29Speaker 6: and the giants, the news about Derek Carr Abdul Carter's
- 38:33Speaker 6: red flags, like this is good for that is it's
- 38:37Speaker 6: good it We just.
- 38:38Speaker 5: Need somebody with a gas mask.
- 38:41Speaker 6: Lends some entry, you know.
- 38:43Speaker 5: Yeah, So we'll be we'll be on on air live
- 38:48Speaker 5: next Thursday starting. I think we start at seven.
- 38:52Speaker 1: Seven.
- 38:52Speaker 6: We're starting at seven.
- 38:55Speaker 5: Maybe we started. I think we start at seven. We
- 38:57Speaker 5: do an hour and then we do go into the.
- 39:01Speaker 6: Check on that.
- 39:01Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 39:02Speaker 6: I don't think we do it. I don't think we
- 39:03Speaker 6: started well. I think we have some don't we have
- 39:06Speaker 6: some like.
- 39:08Speaker 5: Well, the draft party starts at seven here, right, I
- 39:12Speaker 5: have no idea, and don't we take star Yeah, we'll
- 39:16Speaker 5: start at seven. It'll be fine, great, But you don't
- 39:19Speaker 5: you don't want to start at seven, Fred, we start
- 39:22Speaker 5: when you say to start.
- 39:23Speaker 6: When you say jump, we're.
- 39:24Speaker 5: Going to have the desk.
- 39:25Speaker 6: I say, no, we'll have the desk so better kills.
- 39:28Speaker 1: You know, you can have your your printed out.
- 39:30Speaker 6: We will have the seven.
- 39:31Speaker 1: We're starting at seven.
- 39:32Speaker 6: Yeah, seven. I don't believe we've started.
- 39:35Speaker 5: At the draft party. You know, Rabel will come up,
- 39:38Speaker 5: probably Elliott Wolfe will probably come up with the Robert Kraft.
- 39:41Speaker 5: So we want to get all that live.
- 39:43Speaker 6: Okay, Yeah, I said whenever did you say the start?
- 39:46Speaker 6: That's when we're starting.
- 39:47Speaker 5: So excited about that?
- 39:49Speaker 6: Can I just uh, what do we what do we
- 39:52Speaker 6: want to do on Saturday? We talked about this a
- 39:55Speaker 6: little bit.
- 39:55Speaker 1: Oh, we like it. We like what we're doing.
- 39:57Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, what are the hours?
- 39:59Speaker 1: I think we're usually on like twelve to two.
- 40:00Speaker 5: I think you two to four.
- 40:03Speaker 9: I kind of like twelve to two, but I think
- 40:05Speaker 9: it starts at twelve on Saturday.
- 40:07Speaker 7: On Saturday, it starts at twelve.
- 40:09Speaker 4: You got a couple they have a pick at the
- 40:11Speaker 4: top of the fourth round.
- 40:12Speaker 6: Yeah, we want to be on for that.
- 40:14Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, okay, that's it's it's top one hundred pick
- 40:17Speaker 4: one six all right, A good player six top hundred
- 40:22Speaker 4: pick six, I said, a top one hundred pick, uncounting
- 40:28Speaker 4: it as a top one hundred.
- 40:29Speaker 5: All right, Oh, just a programming note. Mike Rabel will
- 40:34Speaker 5: be going live with a press conference at one o'clock,
- 40:37Speaker 5: so we're gonna throw. We're gonna yeah, we're gonna throw
- 40:39Speaker 5: to that. You'll hear him live and then we can
- 40:42Speaker 5: do our reacts to the press conference. And we should
- 40:45Speaker 5: mention last night we found out that Don Hasselback passed away.
- 40:50Speaker 5: Uh Patriot, tight end local guy. Now your dad knew him.
- 40:56Speaker 9: At yeah, yeah, So we went to work at Rebok
- 40:57Speaker 9: after his football career, so my dad worked with him
- 41:00Speaker 9: Rebock a little bit. Matt and Tim both worked in
- 41:02Speaker 9: the Reebok warehouse under my uncle Doug, which I talked about.
- 41:05Speaker 9: I talked to Matt Hasselback I went.
- 41:07Speaker 6: Up to before or after the plumbing career in Scotland.
- 41:11Speaker 9: This is well out to the plumbing career, but my
- 41:13Speaker 9: uncle Doug would run the you know, the warehouse here
- 41:15Speaker 9: where they box up the shoes and ship monts. He
- 41:17Speaker 9: had the young Hasselback boys, uh, boxing stuff up. I
- 41:20Speaker 9: went up to Matt last year at the owners and he's.
- 41:21Speaker 10: Like I remember your guy, Doug.
- 41:23Speaker 5: Yeahs my guy. He was We're gonna box it up,
- 41:25Speaker 5: We're gonna ship it out, ship it Uh.
- 41:28Speaker 9: But no, my dad loved Don Hasselbeck was was a
- 41:30Speaker 9: great guy and and you know, had a little bit
- 41:32Speaker 9: of a relationship with him. So yeah, that was sad,
- 41:34Speaker 9: but good career. And then obviously his legacy lives on
- 41:37Speaker 9: through the litany of Hasselbacks that are now all over
- 41:40Speaker 9: the sports scene.
- 41:41Speaker 6: What's the high Schooliaverian?
- 41:44Speaker 7: Yeah, I could remember which one was.
- 41:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 41:47Speaker 5: Yeah, I met Don a few times because he was
- 41:49Speaker 5: involved with the alumni club, so he would come to meetings.
- 41:53Speaker 1: I didn't realize he was six seven.
- 41:55Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, he was tall.
- 41:56Speaker 1: And met him at some point at the rebock, but
- 41:58Speaker 1: I didn't.
- 41:59Speaker 6: It was a good tight ends set with him in
- 42:01Speaker 6: rest Franco six seven.
- 42:03Speaker 1: Just long guy.
- 42:04Speaker 5: But don't care for Zavarian though, No, you don't care
- 42:08Speaker 5: for Yeah, I can imagine coming from I need.
- 42:11Speaker 6: Him public school.
- 42:12Speaker 7: Yeah, cool to cheat.
- 42:15Speaker 6: They recruit, they.
- 42:16Speaker 5: Recruit now they have seventh and eighth grade as a variance,
- 42:20Speaker 5: so they don't need to recruit my kid early.
- 42:22Speaker 9: My friends kid couldn't even make like the sixth hockey
- 42:25Speaker 9: team as a freshman.
- 42:26Speaker 1: It's very like they have like.
- 42:28Speaker 7: Six seven eight hockeysru it's.
- 42:30Speaker 6: Crazy, and they're not even that good in hockey.
- 42:33Speaker 7: We still beat him.
- 42:33Speaker 1: It's fine.
- 42:35Speaker 5: It is a good school. It's whatever. It's a tough school.
- 42:39Speaker 7: I don't have any respect for those schools.
- 42:41Speaker 6: All right, yeah, so all right, you hear what you're saying,
- 42:45Speaker 6: John passive aggressive shot at me right there?
- 42:49Speaker 5: All right? What else? We got vrabel at one that
- 42:51Speaker 5: we're going to go to. We saw Marcus Jones. If
- 42:54Speaker 5: you miss that, if you tuned in late, we'll have
- 42:56Speaker 5: that up on demand. Always good to see Marcus. He
- 42:59Speaker 5: is like so involved in everything.
- 43:01Speaker 1: Yeah, one of the interests.
- 43:03Speaker 5: Yeah, he's one of those renaissance men. He puts Eric
- 43:05Speaker 5: Scallavino to shame.
- 43:07Speaker 6: He does that mean he's a renaissance man that actually.
- 43:10Speaker 1: Does a lot of it.
- 43:10Speaker 6: He actually does it, yeah, instead of thinking about it.
- 43:13Speaker 5: By the way, somebody posted on one of the uh
- 43:18Speaker 5: PU it unfiltered uh social accounts that we don't run
- 43:24Speaker 5: the unofficial ones. It was hic. It was someone that
- 43:29Speaker 5: looked just like Eric scallao with his girlfriend and a
- 43:32Speaker 5: dog and meg update. It was like this funny thing
- 43:36Speaker 5: where the dog actually picks the man instead of but
- 43:39Speaker 5: like I had to take a double take. I'm like, oh,
- 43:42Speaker 5: that's Eric. Like he found a girlfriend and he's got
- 43:45Speaker 5: a dog, Like life is great. Didn't this guy look
- 43:49Speaker 5: just like him?
- 43:51Speaker 1: That was good?
- 43:52Speaker 6: I had hope, like my action figure that.
- 43:55Speaker 1: Set the internet a blaze by Alex on that great job.
- 43:59Speaker 9: Yeah, I just I I she got some Northeastern in there.
- 44:02Speaker 1: That was my only, my only.
- 44:05Speaker 6: A lot.
- 44:05Speaker 9: I had a lot of people, but otherwise out of
- 44:08Speaker 9: the out of the park on that one.
- 44:10Speaker 1: Yeah, diet pepsis and good stuff.
- 44:13Speaker 6: So my brother texted me a picture of one. Have
- 44:15Speaker 6: you seen this? He wanted one for a shelf a.
- 44:19Speaker 1: Lot of people.
- 44:19Speaker 5: I guess you can go online and do it yourself
- 44:22Speaker 5: like that. It's like a thing where you can create
- 44:24Speaker 5: your own.
- 44:24Speaker 1: Actions and get a printed like and everything.
- 44:27Speaker 6: She didn't like, Yeah, well she did it. Yeah, that's
- 44:31Speaker 6: how you make it. You go online. It's a big
- 44:35Speaker 6: supposed to be the head of supposed to be cutting
- 44:38Speaker 6: edge fread even I knew about this trend.
- 44:41Speaker 5: I didn't know that.
- 44:41Speaker 2: I didn't know about it.
- 44:42Speaker 9: Yeah, she I thought it was like Alex, uh, you're
- 44:47Speaker 9: telling me right.
- 44:49Speaker 1: I mean, he's like, you, no, I.
- 44:51Speaker 6: Know it's less about this stuff than I.
- 44:53Speaker 1: I didn't know about it. She said it to me.
- 44:54Speaker 1: I'm like, this is brilliant. I thought she just came
- 44:56Speaker 1: up with it all on her own. And then she's like,
- 44:58Speaker 1: I didn't realize.
- 44:58Speaker 6: That's a definite burgeoning trends.
- 45:01Speaker 1: Now, make yourself an action pauls a cool kid.
- 45:03Speaker 6: I am not a cool kid. I am as uncool
- 45:06Speaker 6: as you can get. As the action figure would show you.
- 45:10Speaker 9: You're very happy in it, though, Yeah, very happy action
- 45:13Speaker 9: figure Paul.
- 45:14Speaker 6: And someone said way too much hair?
- 45:17Speaker 5: All right? A five five past five hundred is the
- 45:20Speaker 5: hot Line podcast at Patriots dot com. Is the email address.
- 45:24Speaker 5: We're gonna go to vrabel at once, so let's try
- 45:26Speaker 5: to it's a big days and phone calls before he does.
- 45:32Speaker 5: We'll start with everyone's favorite caller, Christian in l A's
- 45:35Speaker 5: on the line. What's up, Christian?
- 45:39Speaker 13: It's bizarre, you guys. If I don't call, people say
- 45:42Speaker 13: you should call. If I call, they say, why the
- 45:44Speaker 13: hell of the la? Your calling?
- 45:48Speaker 5: That means you're doing it right?
- 45:49Speaker 1: You got you're doing it right.
- 45:52Speaker 2: You're all right?
- 45:53Speaker 5: Thanks for calling? Christ All right, what do you got?
- 45:57Speaker 13: And so you guys know the reason why I haven't called,
- 45:59Speaker 13: it's because I've been at my house in Italy. Yes,
- 46:03Speaker 13: don't hate me, but we have. But I want to
- 46:05Speaker 13: say to see you guys. If you guys ever want
- 46:08Speaker 13: to come on to La we have the house and
- 46:10Speaker 13: palaced the house and vennis in the house Cata though.
- 46:13Speaker 13: You have a place to stay anytime you guys want
- 46:15Speaker 13: to come, please take me up on the invite. And
- 46:18Speaker 13: if you're out there in patriot Land, if you can
- 46:21Speaker 13: get to me, you guys would welcome Pee lifestyle.
- 46:23Speaker 9: So the rich and famous offer my in laws place
- 46:28Speaker 9: in Sherman Oaks as well for anyone nice spot.
- 46:30Speaker 6: Christian, can I hit you up for a loan?
- 46:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I've got a palazzo.
- 46:36Speaker 5: I heard there's nothing available because it's all Tuscanyan.
- 46:41Speaker 6: There's nothing you were fighting to throw exactly where.
- 46:44Speaker 13: George place in Parma.
- 46:47Speaker 1: But yeah, Parma like that like Paul's pray love. You
- 46:50Speaker 1: know you could do your version of that.
- 46:53Speaker 5: He knows you guys, remember Papa Whimpy and Papayeh gladly
- 46:57Speaker 5: pay you a dollar tomorrow for a hamburburger day.
- 47:00Speaker 13: Yes, I'll pay you tuesday for a dollar today. That's
- 47:03Speaker 13: what I'm saying. So you guys can see me tuesday
- 47:05Speaker 13: for a stay in LA today to football.
- 47:08Speaker 5: All right, So what do you got? We got to
- 47:09Speaker 5: get some more calls on.
- 47:11Speaker 13: Yeah that you guys to have my back anyway, So
- 47:13Speaker 13: there you go. I think that this is the year
- 47:15Speaker 13: that even though we have a staunch history of doing
- 47:18Speaker 13: things by the book, we always go straight down the middle,
- 47:21Speaker 13: we go to the best value, We do the right thing.
- 47:23Speaker 13: When it's not anybody idea, we trade down. But I
- 47:26Speaker 13: think this is the year that we have to grab
- 47:28Speaker 13: the bull by the horns. And I know you guys
- 47:30Speaker 13: are going to say it takes trading part in the
- 47:32Speaker 13: police sauce, but I think we owe it to the
- 47:34Speaker 13: development of Drake May and to the fandom to do
- 47:37Speaker 13: something radical and excitement that's an exciting I think we
- 47:40Speaker 13: should package our number three pick because I don't think
- 47:44Speaker 13: in this draft anybody from the third round it's gonna
- 47:48Speaker 13: help us put wind in the in the win column.
- 47:51Speaker 13: But I do think that we do something radical and
- 47:53Speaker 13: we package that third guy, we trade up and get
- 47:55Speaker 13: Travis Hunters. I don't care what it takes this is
- 47:59Speaker 13: the year we just do something crazy and radical like that.
- 48:02Speaker 13: I believe Drake May deserves it. I believe it's going
- 48:05Speaker 13: to be a decade long thing where you can look
- 48:09Speaker 13: back and go who they take at three, four or five.
- 48:12Speaker 13: You won't remember it, but you would be able to
- 48:14Speaker 13: go who they take at number four, And if it's
- 48:16Speaker 13: a Travis Hunter or you know, something like.
- 48:19Speaker 5: That, it's a risky move. And thanks for the call, Christian.
- 48:22Speaker 5: You know a lot of people agree with you, but
- 48:24Speaker 5: I wouldn't.
- 48:25Speaker 6: Be supposed to move.
- 48:25Speaker 5: It's a revue move though, because A you're losing those
- 48:29Speaker 5: extra picks and we need more guys, and B if
- 48:33Speaker 5: you're doing that, it's because you think he can be
- 48:35Speaker 5: a wide receiver. So it's risky and on two fronts.
- 48:39Speaker 6: I just I mean, he answered his own question. I
- 48:41Speaker 6: just don't see someone saying, oh, I don't I don't
- 48:43Speaker 6: need Travis Hunter.
- 48:45Speaker 9: Well that's it for me. And we talked about it
- 48:47Speaker 9: being a two player draft. What would it take for
- 48:49Speaker 9: you to move out of the top two picks. Yeah,
- 48:51Speaker 9: it'd be a lot if we were in that position.
- 48:52Speaker 9: I don't know if there's anything that would really move
- 48:54Speaker 9: the needle unless it was one of those transcendental offers
- 48:58Speaker 9: of future first and everything.
- 48:59Speaker 4: Yeah, I would just disagree a little bit with the
- 49:02Speaker 4: third round pick not being valuable. I think this is
- 49:04Speaker 4: a draft where third round picks are valuable. Like, this
- 49:06Speaker 4: is not a top heavy draft. This is a deep
- 49:09Speaker 4: draft where there are players in the second, third, and
- 49:12Speaker 4: fourth rounds that people project to be starters at the
- 49:15Speaker 4: next level. I would say it's the opposite, Like, this
- 49:18Speaker 4: is a draft that doesn't have the blue chip talent
- 49:20Speaker 4: at the top, but has the depth throughout the draft
- 49:23Speaker 4: at certain positions. So you know, when you look at
- 49:26Speaker 4: the board, I think there's a lot of players in
- 49:28Speaker 4: the third round that could be useful.
- 49:29Speaker 5: I'm seeing that, you know, Like I said, I'm kind
- 49:31Speaker 5: of crunching the wide receivers now, I'm seeing that at
- 49:34Speaker 5: the wide receiver.
- 49:35Speaker 2: Yeah, Like, there's a lot.
- 49:36Speaker 5: Of guys like you if you believe that they can
- 49:39Speaker 5: be coached up. They've got the raw talent that you know,
- 49:44Speaker 5: they've got some upside. It's just a matter of can
- 49:47Speaker 5: they learn, do they take the coaching and you find
- 49:50Speaker 5: those guys and that's who you're going to take out
- 49:52Speaker 5: of this draft.
- 49:53Speaker 4: Yeah, I just feel like we're so quick to label
- 49:55Speaker 4: a draft bad because there's no the blue chip talent
- 49:58Speaker 4: at the top is not necessarily there. But to me,
- 50:01Speaker 4: this is a This is a starter draft, not a
- 50:03Speaker 4: star draft like.
- 50:04Speaker 1: How you put that.
- 50:06Speaker 4: It's a really it's a really good draft. If you
- 50:08Speaker 4: are just looking for starting caliber quality NFL players, you
- 50:12Speaker 4: can fill out a roster in a draft like this. Now,
- 50:15Speaker 4: you're not going to get a Hall of Famer most
- 50:18Speaker 4: likely out of a draft outside of those two guys
- 50:20Speaker 4: or maybe genty. But I think you know, the receiver
- 50:23Speaker 4: positions a great example. There's a lot of great third
- 50:26Speaker 4: and fourth round receivers in this draft. You know, there's
- 50:29Speaker 4: a lot of guys that probably have ceilings as like
- 50:31Speaker 4: wide receiver twos in the league, but are considered to
- 50:35Speaker 4: be pretty solid all round players. But they're just not
- 50:39Speaker 4: Mike Neighbors and Marvin Harrison junior.
- 50:41Speaker 5: Right. Ryan's in New Hampshire.
- 50:43Speaker 14: Hey, Ryan, Hey, everyone thinks first time caller, glad to
- 50:49Speaker 14: call in quick question and I'll take it off air.
- 50:53Speaker 14: You guys actually were just talking about the wide receivers
- 50:57Speaker 14: and being in the third and fourth round. There a
- 50:59Speaker 14: lot of time, but with all these defensive players that
- 51:02Speaker 14: I'm saying drop and all these mock drafts that I've
- 51:05Speaker 14: looked at, would you be opposed to skipping on wide
- 51:08Speaker 14: receiver in the draft and just taking a look at
- 51:10Speaker 14: maybe some free agent options that we could find for
- 51:13Speaker 14: a year and just fill a gap until next year?
- 51:16Speaker 13: Thank you?
- 51:17Speaker 5: Okay, I wouldn't, I am, And I guess he means
- 51:20Speaker 5: going defense heavy, yeah.
- 51:22Speaker 2: Just or just not.
- 51:23Speaker 9: I mean, I think they need to tackle, for sure,
- 51:25Speaker 9: that's the piece of it. But I mean, Evan, I
- 51:28Speaker 9: just did our last mock draft. We both took a
- 51:30Speaker 9: Day two or sorry, Round two, round three kind of guys.
- 51:33Speaker 9: There are flyer guys that we like there. But ultimately,
- 51:36Speaker 9: are any of those guys really going to come in
- 51:37Speaker 9: and truly move the needle? I don't know if I
- 51:39Speaker 9: can make that case.
- 51:40Speaker 1: I could see.
- 51:42Speaker 9: Letting this giant wide receiver group flush itself out this year,
- 51:46Speaker 9: and you know I could see it.
- 51:48Speaker 1: I could see it.
- 51:49Speaker 4: Yeah, I hear the thought process. I just think that
- 51:51Speaker 4: they're in a position where they have to keep throwing
- 51:53Speaker 4: darts at that position, like until you solidify a wide
- 51:57Speaker 4: receiver room that is a legit NFL wide receiver room
- 52:02Speaker 4: with talent that can be on a playoff caliber type
- 52:05Speaker 4: of offense. I think you have to keep on on
- 52:08Speaker 4: taking lottery tickets, even if it's you know a little
- 52:11Speaker 4: bit later then maybe they went last year at receiver.
- 52:14Speaker 4: I would still do it, you know, in rounds two
- 52:17Speaker 4: through four at some point, to just add another person
- 52:20Speaker 4: to that room that has some upside and has has
- 52:22Speaker 4: some you know talent, you know, special talent.
- 52:25Speaker 6: I would agree with you, you both, and I would
- 52:27Speaker 6: just say that I don't think there are different difference making. Uh,
- 52:31Speaker 6: free agent wide receivers now to be had. Now, if
- 52:35Speaker 6: you want to talk about a trade, you know of
- 52:37Speaker 6: someone that maybe we don't necessarily know. You know a
- 52:40Speaker 6: lot of people have thrown out Brandon Ayuk, but you
- 52:43Speaker 6: know Aj Brown, I don't see those kinds of moves happening.
- 52:48Speaker 6: But I could be convinced that those guys would be
- 52:50Speaker 6: difference makers. You know, Aj Brown is you know any
- 52:54Speaker 6: almost anybody in the league's number one wide receiver. There's
- 52:57Speaker 6: probably five teams in the league that wouldn't consider their
- 53:00Speaker 6: number one option that would make a difference. You know
- 53:03Speaker 6: at this point, who's still out there, Like Amari Cooper,
- 53:07Speaker 6: so he's still available. I think he is. Yeah, yeah,
- 53:09Speaker 6: I mean that's where you're good players, but they're not
- 53:13Speaker 6: gonna solve your issue. They're not gonna be even really
- 53:16Speaker 6: stop DAPs for you need someone to develop.
- 53:18Speaker 1: Yeah, that's that's it for me.
- 53:20Speaker 5: Eric in Rochester, New York on podcasts at Patriots dot
- 53:23Speaker 5: Com the email address. After hearing the back and forth
- 53:27Speaker 5: about where Shador Sanders will get drafted and hearing both
- 53:31Speaker 5: Paul and Mike's takes, there needs to be some sort
- 53:34Speaker 5: of bet placed on it. The wagers should be something fun,
- 53:36Speaker 5: like having to wear the jersey the team he gets
- 53:38Speaker 5: drafted to during the post draft uh Patriots Unfiltered twenty
- 53:42Speaker 5: five push ups to see if either could actually do
- 53:45Speaker 5: it or something equally emasculating. Love the show can't wait
- 53:49Speaker 5: to see who the Patriots draft in the first round,
- 53:51Speaker 5: So what would the I don't.
- 53:52Speaker 6: Feel strongly enough to bet anything because I don't follow
- 53:55Speaker 6: this crap.
- 53:55Speaker 9: Now, Like I not even the jersey Mike's Yeah.
- 53:59Speaker 6: I mean sure, I mean just to have fun with it,
- 54:01Speaker 6: but like I I just don't want this to come
- 54:03Speaker 6: off as like, oh, you were wrong, Like yeah, if
- 54:07Speaker 6: he gets taken in the top fifteen, yeah, I'd be surprised. Yeah,
- 54:11Speaker 6: but you know, I'm not going to sit there and
- 54:13Speaker 6: sort of, you know, stake my clian to you know,
- 54:16Speaker 6: like when Vernon Golston was coming out and I was like,
- 54:20Speaker 6: this guy is I can't miss and he's he's like
- 54:23Speaker 6: he looked that was different I was. I was in
- 54:25Speaker 6: on Vernon Golston. I was anti the Richard Seymour pick
- 54:29Speaker 6: turned out to be a Hall of Fame player, Like, yeah,
- 54:32Speaker 6: that's different than this. I don't know where should Douay
- 54:34Speaker 6: Sanders is going to get taken?
- 54:36Speaker 1: Just for the record, I could do twenty five push ups.
- 54:38Speaker 6: Oh, I could do twenty five puss now after lunch
- 54:42Speaker 6: now maybe not this time last year.
- 54:46Speaker 5: This might be worth the push ups challenge twenty five.
- 54:50Speaker 6: I'd have a harder time doing the sit pull up,
- 54:53Speaker 6: oh pull ups because.
- 54:54Speaker 1: Can I just hang for a minute?
- 54:55Speaker 6: Though I might be able to do one based on
- 54:58Speaker 6: the jump up to the bar, which at the momentum.
- 55:00Speaker 9: Going, well, you do the pull ups easier, you know
- 55:03Speaker 9: that the chin ups are easier.
- 55:05Speaker 5: It's Alex jacket. He's wearing like a sequin jacket on
- 55:08Speaker 5: air with his number sixteen. Yeah, it's cool. Hypercolor Alex
- 55:14Speaker 5: from Newmarket, UK, longtime first time absolutely love the show
- 55:17Speaker 5: as well as Catch twenty two. I've been back and
- 55:19Speaker 5: forth on what the pacher should do it for. It
- 55:22Speaker 5: looks like the draft will open with Ward than some
- 55:24Speaker 5: combination of Hunter and Carter. For me, the right move
- 55:27Speaker 5: is to run the card up for Will Campbell. Short
- 55:30Speaker 5: arms be damn. It might be a need pick, but
- 55:33Speaker 5: I think he's closest to a sure thing at a
- 55:34Speaker 5: position of value at the top of the draft, and
- 55:36Speaker 5: I love the attitude and toughness. I think he's the
- 55:39Speaker 5: best effort and finished guy available. Assuming they take Campbell,
- 55:43Speaker 5: how likely do you think it is that they trade
- 55:45Speaker 5: into the back end of the first round for a receiver.
- 55:48Speaker 5: Trying to gauge how long I should stay helpful.
- 55:51Speaker 1: I wouldn't do it, probably for receiver.
- 55:53Speaker 9: I'd probably do it for an edge, though I think
- 55:55Speaker 9: that you're going to have an edge that falls to
- 55:57Speaker 9: that territory that would be appealing to me. Those are
- 56:00Speaker 9: the two positions I feel like if you could get
- 56:02Speaker 9: a left tackle with that first pick, and then you
- 56:04Speaker 9: could get one of the really good edges that you know,
- 56:07Speaker 9: really probably day one, first round kind of grades that
- 56:11Speaker 9: fall into the twenties thirties in that area.
- 56:14Speaker 1: That to me, the receiver's tough.
- 56:16Speaker 9: I don't think you could trade up for a Mecha Abuka,
- 56:20Speaker 9: you know, or what's the guy from Missouri's name, you know,
- 56:23Speaker 9: Uther Burden. I get what people want to get with
- 56:27Speaker 9: the receiver position, and I understand why.
- 56:30Speaker 1: And I don't want to get carried away with.
- 56:31Speaker 9: The fact that they have ten receivers on the roster
- 56:33Speaker 9: right now, and that just seems like an absolutely.
- 56:35Speaker 6: I'd be interested in Golden or Burden, but I don't
- 56:40Speaker 6: know if it's I don't know if you want to
- 56:43Speaker 6: give up. Like with Fred's theory of those picks could
- 56:45Speaker 6: be valuable like that at some point you need to
- 56:48Speaker 6: restock your roster with players that are going to be here,
- 56:51Speaker 6: you know, yeh, longer term. I don't want to say
- 56:54Speaker 6: the long term because you never know. And I'm not
- 56:56Speaker 6: suggesting that they need to hit on the second round
- 56:59Speaker 6: to pick the third pick. Therefore, these guys need to
- 57:01Speaker 6: be the pillow. Yeah, ideally, yes, but that's hard. They
- 57:04Speaker 6: need to find some players, and I think the more
- 57:08Speaker 6: dart throws you give yourself, the more opportunities you have to.
- 57:11Speaker 5: They need to have some similar drafts that they had
- 57:14Speaker 5: end of the nineteen nineties and early two thousands, where
- 57:17Speaker 5: they had two or three guys that ended up being
- 57:21Speaker 5: foundational guys.
- 57:22Speaker 1: You know every year, every year you start stacking it.
- 57:25Speaker 6: I mean yeah, I mean, like you know, one, you
- 57:26Speaker 6: get Seymour and Light you know, the two guys that
- 57:28Speaker 6: were fixers for you for a decade. That's I mean, yeah,
- 57:32Speaker 6: that's how you you have to fix this. Yeah, that's
- 57:35Speaker 6: the that's the best way to fix this.
- 57:36Speaker 2: Right.
- 57:38Speaker 5: Let's go to uh sal in Connecticut on the hotline.
- 57:42Speaker 5: What's up, Sal?
- 57:43Speaker 15: Hey, how you guys doing good? So look, listen up.
- 57:50Speaker 15: Will Campbell's there at for in the past. Think he
- 57:52Speaker 15: can play tackle. I don't think there's any hesitation. They
- 57:55Speaker 15: should take them. This team needs tackles more than anything else,
- 57:58Speaker 15: including receivers.
- 58:00Speaker 6: And I agree with that that I took.
- 58:01Speaker 15: A second tackle somewhere on Day two or late Day
- 58:04Speaker 15: two or early day three. Receivers. They you can acquire
- 58:09Speaker 15: every good receivers, as we've learned from history, later than
- 58:13Speaker 15: the first round, and some of the best have come
- 58:15Speaker 15: from beyond the first round. Some of the ones in
- 58:17Speaker 15: the first round has fallen flat That's all I have
- 58:21Speaker 15: to say, and you hear your comments off.
- 58:22Speaker 6: Thanks, Okay, I really agree with his first overall premise.
- 58:26Speaker 6: I think if they're convinced that he's a I said
- 58:28Speaker 6: this last last week when you guys were all banging
- 58:30Speaker 6: the table for Will Campbell, I am fine with Will
- 58:33Speaker 6: Campbell as long as they think he's a tackle. I
- 58:35Speaker 6: am not fine with Will Campbell because well, if it
- 58:37Speaker 6: doesn't work out a tackle, he's a good guard. I'm
- 58:39Speaker 6: not fine with that. But if if the way that
- 58:42Speaker 6: Sal said that, I'm with him. I disagree about the
- 58:46Speaker 6: wide receivers.
- 58:47Speaker 5: Well, certainly it hasn't been easy for this team.
- 58:49Speaker 6: There's been a lot of good but there's been a
- 58:50Speaker 6: lot of good wide receivers taken in the first round too.
- 58:53Speaker 6: Oh yeah, like I you know, there's bus at every position.
- 58:56Speaker 6: I go through this rant every year when everybody tells
- 58:58Speaker 6: me that you know the safe picks, so you know, X,
- 59:02Speaker 6: Y and Z, there's bus at every spot. There's been
- 59:05Speaker 6: a lot of good wide receivers taken in the first round.
- 59:07Speaker 6: I mean just look last year. Yeah, there was four
- 59:10Speaker 6: good ones taken in the top fifteen picks. Yeah, three
- 59:13Speaker 6: of them were really good.
- 59:15Speaker 2: Yep.
- 59:16Speaker 5: Just a reminder, as soon as Mike Rabel comes to
- 59:19Speaker 5: the podium live, we'll be going to him, so we'll
- 59:23Speaker 5: cut away with him.
- 59:24Speaker 6: But in the meantime, the first question to Mike Rabel
- 59:27Speaker 6: will be in another word yet to get inside the
- 59:30Speaker 6: mind of Karen Gardy.
- 59:32Speaker 9: Right, yeah, I think probably just maybe. I mean, I mean,
- 59:39Speaker 9: how's it all going? You have the players back in
- 59:40Speaker 9: the building for two weeks, how's it all coming together?
- 59:42Speaker 9: Or something like that.
- 59:44Speaker 5: Let's see this is Jarald writes in Where Is He From?
- 59:47Speaker 5: He doesn't say Eric wouldn't like that. Matthew Slater spoke
- 59:51Speaker 5: at my company in Boston last Tuesday. He spoke about
- 59:54Speaker 5: the Patriot Way. I have something to ask about that,
- 59:57Speaker 5: and how it wasn't about Bill or Tom Brady but
- 59:59Speaker 5: about the men who downed the uniform and united together
- 1:00:02Speaker 5: to give it there all day after day.
- 1:00:04Speaker 6: It's really about the men who.
- 1:00:07Speaker 5: Iron sharpening iron. He spoke about his first meeting with Brady,
- 1:00:10Speaker 5: his journey into the NFL, and how Bill called him
- 1:00:13Speaker 5: out for the first time during a meeting that says Slate,
- 1:00:16Speaker 5: can we do this correctly or so I don't have
- 1:00:18Speaker 5: to call your mom to say you're in the hospital.
- 1:00:21Speaker 5: My question is what do each of you think will
- 1:00:23Speaker 5: be the culture of rabel implements and how do you
- 1:00:25Speaker 5: think he will implement it with the team who accountability? Yeah,
- 1:00:30Speaker 5: I was gonna that was the word I was thinking.
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:00:33Speaker 9: Thing I've heard from Trust that Will Compton and Tyler
- 1:00:37Speaker 9: Taylor Luan was that he likes to question guys, keep
- 1:00:41Speaker 9: guys on their toes and meetings. I know that was
- 1:00:42Speaker 9: a big Bill thing, and I think if you're gonna
- 1:00:45Speaker 9: ask you guys to study and know your opponent and
- 1:00:47Speaker 9: putting guys on the spot, and I think there's a
- 1:00:50Speaker 9: level of respect so that you want to answer those
- 1:00:53Speaker 9: questions from Mike Rabel correctly, so well you.
- 1:00:55Speaker 5: Keep them on their toes like I could be asked
- 1:00:57Speaker 5: something ready.
- 1:00:58Speaker 9: I hope you get a team that it's locked in
- 1:01:00Speaker 9: and plays tough, and I think all the cliches of
- 1:01:02Speaker 9: a good I.
- 1:01:03Speaker 6: Think what you're going to get is something very similar
- 1:01:06Speaker 6: to the mentality of Belichick, with a different personality, a
- 1:01:10Speaker 6: vastly different personality, and hopefully it blends those two things. Well,
- 1:01:15Speaker 6: here we got Mike right now, go to Mike.
- 1:01:21Speaker 16: Send our condolences to to Betsy Hasselback, to Matthew, to
- 1:01:26Speaker 16: Tim and Nathaniel obviously their grandchildren. One thing I would say,
- 1:01:32Speaker 16: you know, talking about a successful man is someone that
- 1:01:36Speaker 16: raises genuine, caring, thoughtful children, and that's something that that
- 1:01:41Speaker 16: Don certainly did. So our thoughts and prayers are with
- 1:01:45Speaker 16: the Hassleback family, former player here, former NFL player, Rep,
- 1:01:52Speaker 16: Union Rep.
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: And then you know, just it's always around town when
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: I was here and God have.
- 1:01:59Speaker 16: Interactions with him, know as children, So I want to
- 1:02:02Speaker 16: send our regards to them. A bit exciting here with
- 1:02:05Speaker 16: the with the players being in town, it's kind of
- 1:02:08Speaker 16: unique with the draft prep and the timing of all this.
- 1:02:11Speaker 16: So there's certainly a great energy that's that's around our
- 1:02:14Speaker 16: building and uh I want to continue to take advantage
- 1:02:18Speaker 16: of that, to build on that, to grow uh that
- 1:02:21Speaker 16: and and then you know, excited about bringing you know,
- 1:02:25Speaker 16: great young players or great you know some of them,
- 1:02:29Speaker 16: I think with the COVID years are a little older
- 1:02:31Speaker 16: now than what they used to be. But rookie players
- 1:02:34Speaker 16: onto our football team through the draft.
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: And the post draft process. So with that, Karen, what
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: do you got.
- 1:02:40Speaker 7: Uh that's with the draft?
- 1:02:42Speaker 17: Uh week or start away?
- 1:02:45Speaker 4: I was curious if if.
- 1:02:46Speaker 17: You have received many many calls from teams looking to.
- 1:02:51Speaker 13: Move up to numbers.
- 1:02:52Speaker 16: Well, I'd say it's probably a little early for that,
- 1:02:54Speaker 16: in my experience, probably a little early for those conversations.
- 1:02:58Speaker 16: A lot of those happen uh next week as we
- 1:03:03Speaker 16: get a little closer to the draft.
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: I think there's still some prep.
- 1:03:06Speaker 16: And some you know, some managing that goes on and
- 1:03:10Speaker 16: the coaches reports, and so it's probably a little early
- 1:03:13Speaker 16: for some of those conversations that happen.
- 1:03:17Speaker 13: Like kind of ball that.
- 1:03:18Speaker 12: Up with Karen what she said in those situations to you,
- 1:03:22Speaker 12: you know, past drafts, have you've been a guy that's
- 1:03:24Speaker 12: like if you see a guy that you want to
- 1:03:26Speaker 12: really to trade up to see guy, you know, maybe.
- 1:03:28Speaker 16: Well as far as manipulating the draft and the board
- 1:03:31Speaker 16: and and the value, and we've gone up, when we've
- 1:03:33Speaker 16: gone down, and you know places that I've been, you know,
- 1:03:38Speaker 16: I think you're just looking for the best value and
- 1:03:40Speaker 16: you're trying to find players that that are you know,
- 1:03:43Speaker 16: obviously talented and what we feel like are great fit
- 1:03:46Speaker 16: here for us and can help our football team at
- 1:03:49Speaker 16: different levels.
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: And so that happens at the top of the draft.
- 1:03:52Speaker 16: That will happen, you know, in the middle parts, and
- 1:03:54Speaker 16: then obviously as you get towards the end and there's
- 1:03:57Speaker 16: somebody that you want and you may get or somebody
- 1:03:59Speaker 16: gives you an offer, and you know you're trying to
- 1:04:01Speaker 16: get a little bit more draft capital, like the fact.
- 1:04:04Speaker 17: Dad character previous, more character honests the agency also difficult players.
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: I think that's the most important thing. But yes, does
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: that translate to the draft?
- 1:04:13Speaker 3: Do you feel like.
- 1:04:14Speaker 16: Because you got him as that Morgan moses, maybe you
- 1:04:17Speaker 16: can take a risk in the draft because you feel
- 1:04:19Speaker 16: like they're a lot of us from well, we don't
- 1:04:20Speaker 16: want to take risks. I mean we want to take
- 1:04:22Speaker 16: I think we want to be aggressive. I don't think
- 1:04:24Speaker 16: I think there's a difference between taking risks and being
- 1:04:27Speaker 16: aggressive and and adding quality players and people uh to
- 1:04:32Speaker 16: the roster that that'll happen throughout player acquisition. I think
- 1:04:39Speaker 16: that that's something that's important. But you know, certainly the
- 1:04:42Speaker 16: talent of the player, you know, has to be evaluated first,
- 1:04:45Speaker 16: and then you go through a lot of different exercises
- 1:04:48Speaker 16: and conversations and you know to try to figure out,
- 1:04:52Speaker 16: you know, the type of person. But you know, you
- 1:04:54Speaker 16: can't win and you can't do what we want to
- 1:04:57Speaker 16: do with with just a bunch of good dudes.
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: That's not gonna get it.
- 1:05:00Speaker 7: You might have to a part of its. Uh See.
- 1:05:02Speaker 18: I'm just curious what you've seen from him on speed
- 1:05:05Speaker 18: and just what's happened, what you've learned.
- 1:05:07Speaker 16: From people happening to say, Well, we're not going to
- 1:05:09Speaker 16: discuss any of the the interactions in the thirty visit,
- 1:05:11Speaker 16: but I appreciate, you know, the knowledge of him being
- 1:05:15Speaker 16: in here. I don't think he took too many of them.
- 1:05:19Speaker 16: But I would say that the tape is dynamic. There's
- 1:05:22Speaker 16: a lot of great qualities of a disruptive pass rusher,
- 1:05:27Speaker 16: you know, very slippery, loose, sudden uh player, and uh,
- 1:05:32Speaker 16: it was a it was a fun tape to watch.
- 1:05:35Speaker 5: What's what's your overall goal and what do you hope
- 1:05:37Speaker 5: to accomplish with the first draft?
- 1:05:38Speaker 16: Last week here and means the overall goal for our
- 1:05:42Speaker 16: for the draft, well, I mean I think it's to
- 1:05:45Speaker 16: add as many you know, quality players and in quality people.
- 1:05:51Speaker 16: You know, you want to come out of it with
- 1:05:53Speaker 16: some starters. You want to come out of it with
- 1:05:54Speaker 16: some depth role players that that can that can build
- 1:05:58Speaker 16: the strength and the you know, the depth of the roster,
- 1:06:01Speaker 16: the backup players and the situational players, and you know,
- 1:06:05Speaker 16: there's just trying to find a fit for all these
- 1:06:06Speaker 16: different players where they are and what we see them doing,
- 1:06:10Speaker 16: and then ultimately they'll come in and define our role,
- 1:06:12Speaker 16: define their role.
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: And then also in the in the post.
- 1:06:16Speaker 16: Draft processes is trying to find some players that that
- 1:06:19Speaker 16: may have fallen through the draft that that we have
- 1:06:22Speaker 16: an affinity for or we feel like that we can develop.
- 1:06:24Speaker 16: They have some traits that we can develop, and that's
- 1:06:28Speaker 16: something that we believe strongly in as well.
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: You know, once you get through the draft.
- 1:06:33Speaker 4: Like the fact that you're the one doing the pre
- 1:06:35Speaker 4: draft press congress, does that reflect reflect that you have
- 1:06:38Speaker 4: final say.
- 1:06:38Speaker 3: Over the draft?
- 1:06:39Speaker 10: H No.
- 1:06:40Speaker 16: I think that would just reflect that I was the
- 1:06:42Speaker 16: person chosen to to talk to you guys today. We're
- 1:06:45Speaker 16: we're excited about where we were in free agency, and
- 1:06:49Speaker 16: Elliott and myself and and and Ryan and Matt and
- 1:06:54Speaker 16: and Caim. I want to thank all of them for
- 1:06:57Speaker 16: their efforts thus far. The scouts, I've always enjoyed sitting
- 1:07:03Speaker 16: down with them asking them questions. I mean, these are
- 1:07:05Speaker 16: the men and women that have been around, you know,
- 1:07:08Speaker 16: these players and at practices for the last two years
- 1:07:11Speaker 16: and have seen them interact with their teammates, They've seen
- 1:07:13Speaker 16: them practice.
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: So I want to thank them.
- 1:07:16Speaker 16: I want to thank the coaches for their involvement in
- 1:07:18Speaker 16: the draft process and in free agency and evaluating them.
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: It's you know, they're getting.
- 1:07:23Speaker 16: Ready for our players to come in and they're evaluating players.
- 1:07:26Speaker 16: And you know, as a coach sometimes at an assistant coach,
- 1:07:29Speaker 16: you evaluate players and you don't end up getting the
- 1:07:31Speaker 16: guy that you you know, spend a bunch of hours
- 1:07:34Speaker 16: evaluating and you might have liked, and that's how it goes,
- 1:07:36Speaker 16: and then you go to the next year.
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:07:38Speaker 16: But we're always trying to bridge that gap, getting around
- 1:07:42Speaker 16: to that between coaching and personnel. And the longer that
- 1:07:45Speaker 16: I do this, I always see that there's players that
- 1:07:48Speaker 16: the personnel side may really like and there's players that
- 1:07:51Speaker 16: the that the at the coaching staff.
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: May cove it for different reasons.
- 1:07:56Speaker 16: And so my job, an Eliot's job, and Ryan's job
- 1:07:59Speaker 16: is to bridge that gap and then to come up
- 1:08:01Speaker 16: with the player that we feel like is best for
- 1:08:04Speaker 16: our football team at that particular level. So there's been
- 1:08:09Speaker 16: a great alignment and we're all excited about what we've
- 1:08:12Speaker 16: been able to do in free agency. Have only I think,
- 1:08:17Speaker 16: reaffirmed that by by seeing these guys in the building
- 1:08:20Speaker 16: for the past just six days.
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: But it's been but it's been awesome. Like how we
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: feel is if you're going to be.
- 1:08:27Speaker 5: More aggressive instead of just letting the draft come to you,
- 1:08:30Speaker 5: like can you see something?
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: Do you think that you as a group of saying, look,
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: we gotta make something. Yeah, I don't know if you
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: can answer that.
- 1:08:36Speaker 16: I think we we always when we coach the football team,
- 1:08:39Speaker 16: we asked the players to play.
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: We wanted to be aggressive. We don't want them to
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: be reckless.
- 1:08:45Speaker 16: There could come a time and I think there's a
- 1:08:46Speaker 16: lot of possibilities there could be players that maybe we
- 1:08:50Speaker 16: covet on on the board that are are there at
- 1:08:54Speaker 16: a certain point and we have to determine, you know,
- 1:08:56Speaker 16: how far we are away from where that player is.
- 1:08:59Speaker 16: And you know that'll be the same thing when you
- 1:09:02Speaker 16: talk about trading back, like how far do you want
- 1:09:04Speaker 16: to trade back? Are there still going to be players there,
- 1:09:06Speaker 16: uh that that you want at that particular level. So
- 1:09:11Speaker 16: I think we all have experience enough doing that of
- 1:09:13Speaker 16: going up and going back and presenting. You know, every
- 1:09:18Speaker 16: time you pick, there's probably a are we gonna stick
- 1:09:20Speaker 16: and pick or what's the what's the best offer that
- 1:09:24Speaker 16: we have? And that's that's the role of the personnel's
- 1:09:27Speaker 16: staff is to kind of feel those calls as they
- 1:09:31Speaker 16: come in. And sometimes they're they're good offers, and sometimes
- 1:09:34Speaker 16: there's they're not so good.
- 1:09:35Speaker 5: Offers, Like what's you feel like there's a tackle on
- 1:09:37Speaker 5: this class that will be worthy to be taken in
- 1:09:39Speaker 5: the world off.
- 1:09:41Speaker 16: I think there's some starting tackles that certainly will come
- 1:09:45Speaker 16: in and start uh in the NFL. And I think
- 1:09:49Speaker 16: that that's, you know, really what you start to look for,
- 1:09:53Speaker 16: right as impact players when you start picking that high
- 1:09:57Speaker 16: you know what they're gonna do for you? What what's
- 1:09:59Speaker 16: the impact? What's the position? You know, you talk about
- 1:10:03Speaker 16: premium position, you know, and so then that's where you
- 1:10:09Speaker 16: kind of weigh all the circumstances and end up, you know,
- 1:10:12Speaker 16: making that pick. So do I think that they're starters
- 1:10:15Speaker 16: in this draft at left tackle?
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: Yes? I do.
- 1:10:18Speaker 5: What's the role of analytics in your process and how
- 1:10:20Speaker 5: you balance what the numbers tell you, what your eyes
- 1:10:22Speaker 5: tell you and.
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: What your scouts doing. Yeah, we've.
- 1:10:27Speaker 16: You know, I think you rely on analytics to help
- 1:10:30Speaker 16: you ask questions about what you see on tape, and
- 1:10:33Speaker 16: not only ask questions, but but answer and get them answered.
- 1:10:39Speaker 16: And so I think that it's a quick, very good
- 1:10:41Speaker 16: snapshot of what you need to talk about.
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: Durability.
- 1:10:44Speaker 16: You talk about height, weight, speed, measurables. You know, time
- 1:10:50Speaker 16: missed does that correlate to potential time missed UH in
- 1:10:54Speaker 16: our league?
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: And the durability.
- 1:10:56Speaker 16: So those are all things that that they can give
- 1:10:59Speaker 16: you. You could talk and you can look at certain positions
- 1:11:02Speaker 16: right analytically as it relates to the receivers and their
- 1:11:06Speaker 16: drop percentage or their ability to gain yards after the
- 1:11:10Speaker 16: catch or their contested catch, or how much separation yards right,
- 1:11:14Speaker 16: and then you go to the next position. So every
- 1:11:15Speaker 16: position has a different analytical number or value that we
- 1:11:22Speaker 16: would kind of look at. And then you go back
- 1:11:23Speaker 16: and you watch the tape, and you know, when those
- 1:11:26Speaker 16: things are highlighted, you certainly want to make sure that
- 1:11:28Speaker 16: all those things are accounted for and.
- 1:11:32Speaker 5: Are there any traits that maybe are translate more to
- 1:11:34Speaker 5: success in the league, or there's somewhere you think you
- 1:11:36Speaker 5: can work and kind of work them out when they.
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: Get to the wings.
- 1:11:41Speaker 16: I mean I think position, I mean production. You start
- 1:11:43Speaker 16: with production and see, you know, guys can make plays
- 1:11:46Speaker 16: at in the college level. You know, usually that's a
- 1:11:51Speaker 16: good place to start. And then you would obviously just
- 1:11:53Speaker 16: translate to certain things that edge rushers may have.
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: You can look over the course of.
- 1:11:59Speaker 16: You know, the last ten drafts, let's say, and see
- 1:12:02Speaker 16: how those players did with with certain scores and numbers,
- 1:12:06Speaker 16: and you know, some of them maybe were more productive
- 1:12:09Speaker 16: and maybe in the NFL than they were in college.
- 1:12:12Speaker 16: That's always one that you know, I have to, you know, really,
- 1:12:16Speaker 16: you know, focus on and ask you know why, and
- 1:12:19Speaker 16: you know, maybe it's a different scheme that you know,
- 1:12:21Speaker 16: maybe a guy's just rushing against the team that throws
- 1:12:25Speaker 16: a bunch of RPOs and the balls out, or you know,
- 1:12:28Speaker 16: then not doing is you know where the passing game
- 1:12:31Speaker 16: is a different passing game. And and I just go
- 1:12:34Speaker 16: back to like Daniel Hunter, right, I always use this example.
- 1:12:37Speaker 2: You know, watch him at LSU.
- 1:12:40Speaker 16: Wasn't a very productive by by numbers, but he tested
- 1:12:43Speaker 16: well and he had the height, the weight and speed
- 1:12:46Speaker 16: and certainly when you look at what he's done in
- 1:12:48Speaker 16: the National Football League, it's been very impressive. So I
- 1:12:53Speaker 16: always go back to that and make sure that you know,
- 1:12:56Speaker 16: if the productions maybe not off the charts, then what
- 1:13:00Speaker 16: else is there that we should be looking at that
- 1:13:02Speaker 16: that would translate to being successful in the National Football League?
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: You have better talk to you last two years ago.
- 1:13:08Speaker 6: Do you have a better vision what the top of
- 1:13:10Speaker 6: draft might look like and who might not be on
- 1:13:12Speaker 6: the board when you guys heard, I think.
- 1:13:14Speaker 16: No, I mean I think that you know, we we
- 1:13:16Speaker 16: probably know as much as everybody else.
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: And what gets reported.
- 1:13:20Speaker 16: I mean Tennessee is not calling or Cleveland's not calling,
- 1:13:24Speaker 16: even though I was a consultant there last year. I
- 1:13:26Speaker 16: haven't heard their their plans on who they want to pick.
- 1:13:29Speaker 16: So you know, we'll we'll see as we get closer.
- 1:13:34Speaker 16: If any of that information is available, we would love
- 1:13:36Speaker 16: to have it.
- 1:13:38Speaker 12: Philosophy on what has generally been your philosophy in the
- 1:13:42Speaker 12: past on drafting best available as opposed to position a.
- 1:13:45Speaker 16: Need, and how does that evolve, maybe round by a
- 1:13:48Speaker 16: round or even year to year. What would love for
- 1:13:50Speaker 16: them to align having a need and having the best
- 1:13:53Speaker 16: player be there that that doesn't always happen and We
- 1:13:57Speaker 16: certainly want to pick the best play as many times
- 1:14:03Speaker 16: as we can and the player that we think at
- 1:14:05Speaker 16: that point is the best player, and then we'll figure
- 1:14:09Speaker 16: it out.
- 1:14:10Speaker 3: You know.
- 1:14:10Speaker 16: Maybe you look at one position and then we may
- 1:14:14Speaker 16: have some returning starters or we feel like our starters
- 1:14:17Speaker 16: or there's depth of that position. But to add premium
- 1:14:20Speaker 16: players when available is something that you should probably always
- 1:14:24Speaker 16: try to do.
- 1:14:26Speaker 7: Players are ingraded, you know similarly on the board, like what.
- 1:14:29Speaker 4: What are some of the time rankers that you guys
- 1:14:32Speaker 4: put into account and off the film, you know, maybe
- 1:14:34Speaker 4: they have similar grades.
- 1:14:36Speaker 16: Yeah, there's kind of the ranking system within the grade,
- 1:14:39Speaker 16: right when you start stacking players horizontally amongst their position,
- 1:14:46Speaker 16: and then when you see me vertically amongst their position,
- 1:14:49Speaker 16: and then you start to look at it horizontally that
- 1:14:52Speaker 16: other players at another position with the same grade would
- 1:14:57Speaker 16: would rank higher. You know, so maybe one player over
- 1:15:00Speaker 16: here would lose out to another play.
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: Over here even though they're on the same line.
- 1:15:05Speaker 16: To kind of give you an idea that then within
- 1:15:07Speaker 16: the position, versatility, the ability to play another position, you know,
- 1:15:18Speaker 16: some of the probably the testing numbers or what we
- 1:15:21Speaker 16: feel like on film, but we try to go through
- 1:15:23Speaker 16: and you know that that's done and finished. As far
- 1:15:26Speaker 16: as the vertical process of where we see each player, well,
- 1:15:30Speaker 16: you think.
- 1:15:30Speaker 10: Back specifically the first round picks.
- 1:15:32Speaker 13: They hadn't tend to see what lessons.
- 1:15:34Speaker 2: About what worked with those players.
- 1:15:36Speaker 17: Maybe you didn't will inform how you approached this pick
- 1:15:39Speaker 17: a number four because it's the highest you've ever had met.
- 1:15:42Speaker 2: Yeah, we you know what kind of injury.
- 1:15:44Speaker 16: We took a couple of guys with injuries that we
- 1:15:46Speaker 16: thought were talented and maybe what injuries you know, as
- 1:15:50Speaker 16: they fell and that value got, you know, to the
- 1:15:52Speaker 16: point where we were comfortable taking it. I think that's
- 1:15:55Speaker 16: something that's critical. You know what, you know, what's the
- 1:16:01Speaker 16: ability for players to recover from one injury vers versus
- 1:16:04Speaker 16: another injury? I think is something that that I learned,
- 1:16:10Speaker 16: you know, the impact that that that player makes and
- 1:16:13Speaker 16: and demands on a quote unquote first round pick, you know,
- 1:16:18Speaker 16: I think is something that's you know, just like the
- 1:16:21Speaker 16: quarterback and I have to be the the face of
- 1:16:23Speaker 16: a franchise, but everybody's gonna be talking about the first
- 1:16:25Speaker 16: round pick from from the time that we pick 'em
- 1:16:28Speaker 16: til you know, for as long as they're here. So
- 1:16:32Speaker 16: that kind of gets carried with 'em, and I think
- 1:16:34Speaker 16: you have to have the the attitude and and the
- 1:16:37Speaker 16: demeanor to to handle some.
- 1:16:39Speaker 19: Of that sort of dance.
- 1:16:40Speaker 13: I'm just curious, saying you having it from visit everything.
- 1:16:43Speaker 11: This is kind of the first time you're gonna see
- 1:16:45Speaker 11: it actively working out the group since the Celtair.
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: And all that.
- 1:16:49Speaker 7: I I'm just curious what you're seeing is recovering.
- 1:16:51Speaker 14: How much do they do that.
- 1:16:54Speaker 16: I think he's doing everything, uh, you know, like everybody else.
- 1:16:58Speaker 16: He's working hard, and I think he's excited about being
- 1:17:03Speaker 16: here and being a patriot.
- 1:17:05Speaker 2: He's a motivated player, he's a hungry player, just.
- 1:17:07Speaker 16: Like everybody else that that's here and that's working. And
- 1:17:12Speaker 16: that's been the most exciting thing I think for me
- 1:17:14Speaker 16: is that they're asking good questions, that they're into it.
- 1:17:18Speaker 16: They know that there's some things are going to be different,
- 1:17:22Speaker 16: and that that change happens every year.
- 1:17:25Speaker 5: Card and you have something.
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: Gone when you saw it before it? Do you know
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: what you're gonna do? You want to say? What? Do
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: you know? What?
- 1:17:32Speaker 16: You Well, we're in the process of going through what
- 1:17:35Speaker 16: you know. Everybody calls these these simulations, and that's been
- 1:17:41Speaker 16: and will continue to be good exercises.
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: You know, it's just.
- 1:17:45Speaker 16: Running scenarios and what we would do based on those scenarios.
- 1:17:48Speaker 16: So to say that we have a definitive answer on
- 1:17:54Speaker 16: those scenarios, no, But those are processes that are ongoing,
- 1:17:57Speaker 16: and you know we'll be done here shortly.
- 1:18:01Speaker 17: Like is listening to you with hearing the right things
- 1:18:05Speaker 17: from these players.
- 1:18:06Speaker 6: They should talk to them and ask questions.
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: And you know the fact, how much does that sink
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: in with you?
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: But you go both the process.
- 1:18:12Speaker 16: What sinks in the most with me is the first
- 1:18:14Speaker 16: exposure to the second exposure, to maybe the third exposure.
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: And it's difficult, I think, just.
- 1:18:21Speaker 16: You know, you don't really know what you're going to
- 1:18:26Speaker 16: get in the first exposure, and I think that's kind
- 1:18:28Speaker 16: of not very fair either to be walked. Some of
- 1:18:30Speaker 16: these guys don't even know what room they're in at
- 1:18:31Speaker 16: the combine, Like if there's not like a Patriot logo
- 1:18:35Speaker 16: somewhere in the room, it would be hard for them
- 1:18:38Speaker 16: to every single time know which room they're in because
- 1:18:41Speaker 16: it's just the hallways tight and there's a bunch of
- 1:18:44Speaker 16: people out there and they get shuttled into a room. Hey,
- 1:18:47Speaker 16: this is so and so, Like I could tell them
- 1:18:50Speaker 16: I'm Tom Current and they'd be like, hey, nice to
- 1:18:52Speaker 16: meet you. At that point, they just really they just
- 1:18:55Speaker 16: there's a lot there. But then the next exposure they
- 1:18:58Speaker 16: get a little bit more comfortable. And then the next exposure,
- 1:19:02Speaker 16: whether that it's at Pro Day or the thirty visit,
- 1:19:04Speaker 16: you start to see maybe who they are and and
- 1:19:10Speaker 16: and you know kind of what their personality is.
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: Like.
- 1:19:14Speaker 6: Do you have any philosophies or opinions on running backs
- 1:19:18Speaker 6: generally speaking, and whether were.
- 1:19:19Speaker 2: They that's what I tell the running backs.
- 1:19:22Speaker 5: Whether they're worth like a top ten pick.
- 1:19:23Speaker 7: Do you have any thoughts on that kind of topic?
- 1:19:26Speaker 2: You know, No, I don't.
- 1:19:27Speaker 16: I think that that's individualized based on how good the
- 1:19:31Speaker 16: player is, I mean, how talented, and what impact that
- 1:19:34Speaker 16: he's going to make, his ability to play and you know,
- 1:19:39Speaker 16: all all three downs, his.
- 1:19:41Speaker 2: Ability to catch the football, his ability.
- 1:19:43Speaker 16: To to create mismatches, and and and obviously.
- 1:19:50Speaker 2: Then what the team covets. I think that's the most.
- 1:19:52Speaker 17: Important earlier and you just use it again relatively speaking,
- 1:19:59Speaker 17: were you drafting, how many guys are we talking or
- 1:20:02Speaker 17: under that sort of realm.
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: Well, I think where we're drafting. You know, there's a
- 1:20:08Speaker 2: handful of guys.
- 1:20:10Speaker 16: You know, we're not in the market for a quarterback,
- 1:20:12Speaker 16: so you know that that o'll eliminate anybody that throws
- 1:20:17Speaker 16: the football. But I do think that there is certainly
- 1:20:23Speaker 16: players that we covet at every level. I think that's
- 1:20:25Speaker 16: the thing that we're finding as you go through.
- 1:20:27Speaker 2: And so.
- 1:20:30Speaker 16: It's a it's a package, it's a complete package. It's
- 1:20:33Speaker 16: it's about the player, it's about the person and most importantly,
- 1:20:37Speaker 16: I think for me, the vision that we have for
- 1:20:39Speaker 16: him and the impact that they're going to make in
- 1:20:41Speaker 16: the locker room and make in the community.
- 1:20:44Speaker 2: Please to stop being so nice.
- 1:20:48Speaker 6: We're just under twenty minutes.
- 1:20:50Speaker 7: Joe Milton, Why why trade for him?
- 1:20:52Speaker 2: Why trade him?
- 1:20:52Speaker 16: When you guys med Well, we felt like that his
- 1:20:55Speaker 16: reps were going to be decreased as we worked through
- 1:20:58Speaker 16: the off season, and we like, it's like every other decision,
- 1:21:02Speaker 16: and we're going to try to do what's best for
- 1:21:03Speaker 16: the team. And that's what we the decision that we
- 1:21:07Speaker 16: ultimately made and so excited to move forward with with
- 1:21:10Speaker 16: Drake and Josh. And you know that's going to be
- 1:21:13Speaker 16: a tough one for me to continue to say over
- 1:21:15Speaker 16: and over as Drake and Josh, so I appreciate it
- 1:21:19Speaker 16: guys again. Want to thank our scouts, want to thank
- 1:21:22Speaker 16: our personnel department forgetting I think me brought up to
- 1:21:26Speaker 16: speed in this process.
- 1:21:28Speaker 2: And and our and our coaching staff. So thanks.

- 1:23:26Speaker 6: I think he goes by yet he's the quarterback a
- 1:23:28Speaker 6: Houston and Miami. Oh boy, oh wow?
- 1:23:31Speaker 7: Fall put down the cigarettes.
- 1:23:32Speaker 6: Fall, excuse me, it's really I mean, I mean pretty much.
- 1:23:36Speaker 6: He's such a good port there. I don't know why
- 1:23:38Speaker 6: I haven't complimenting any of his points. I haven't compliments
- 1:23:44Speaker 6: any hard to argue with that induces.
- 1:23:46Speaker 5: We don't know it, but Paul goes home. He's a
- 1:23:48Speaker 5: chain smoker. It's just like one after another after the draft.
- 1:23:51Speaker 7: Can a guy get a light value.
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: Safe home?
- 1:23:56Speaker 7: Honey, I'd rather fight than switch.
- 1:24:00Speaker 5: That's another great moment back here and Patriots Unfiltered. You
- 1:24:07Speaker 5: just heard from Mike Vrabel. He filibusters very well.
- 1:24:12Speaker 6: Yeah, pre draft press conference is one of the more
- 1:24:17Speaker 6: fruitless activities necessary. I mean, everybody does it. Everybody around
- 1:24:21Speaker 6: the league has somebody speak at this time of the year.
- 1:24:24Speaker 6: But you can certainly understand the position that whoever is
- 1:24:27Speaker 6: to whether it's a GM or head coach, is in,
- 1:24:31Speaker 6: Like what are you going to say? Yeah, oh jeez,
- 1:24:34Speaker 6: you know, we we have our.
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: Guy phones ringing off the hook.
- 1:24:36Speaker 5: I mean, well, Karen's first question is a good question.
- 1:24:39Speaker 5: Has anyone shown interest in a in a move, which
- 1:24:42Speaker 5: is when maybe you can answer even if you want
- 1:24:45Speaker 5: it out there, like oh yeah, we're getting a lot
- 1:24:47Speaker 5: of interest. You know, you could use that as an
- 1:24:50Speaker 5: opportunity to drum up business. But he chose to say
- 1:24:54Speaker 5: that it's a little early for those calls.
- 1:24:56Speaker 9: But so don't you think like it's on other teams
- 1:24:58Speaker 9: like shouldn't they absolutely be calling the Patriots just to
- 1:25:01Speaker 9: find it out, like to find what.
- 1:25:03Speaker 5: I want to wait a little bit.
- 1:25:04Speaker 6: Yeah, and Mike's answer was just not necessarily that it
- 1:25:07Speaker 6: won't it just maybe he said a little early for
- 1:25:10Speaker 6: those conversations yet. But yeah, I think that was a
- 1:25:12Speaker 6: good question. And again, Mike isn't really going to be
- 1:25:17Speaker 6: in a position where he's going to be able to
- 1:25:18Speaker 6: say a whole lot. That's why I think it's one
- 1:25:21Speaker 6: of the more fruitless exercises that we do. But you're right,
- 1:25:23Speaker 6: he filibusters.
- 1:25:24Speaker 5: Well, yeah, so that was Mike Vrabel. If you have
- 1:25:28Speaker 5: any comments about that, you can obviously call or email
- 1:25:33Speaker 5: in eight five to five past five hundred is the
- 1:25:35Speaker 5: hotline or the pot The email is podcast at Patriots
- 1:25:39Speaker 5: dot com. But one thing I wanted to bring up
- 1:25:41Speaker 5: at his draft time. Bill Belichick is coming out with
- 1:25:45Speaker 5: a new book and excerpts are already out or you know,
- 1:25:48Speaker 5: some reviewers have already read it. And in one of
- 1:25:51Speaker 5: his chapters mistakes, one of the few that he believes
- 1:25:57Speaker 5: he's ever made is that he didn't he passed on
- 1:26:01Speaker 5: Lamar Jackson. You're buying that?
- 1:26:05Speaker 2: No?
- 1:26:06Speaker 6: No, I mean, like that's one of the biggest mistakes. Yeah,
- 1:26:11Speaker 6: I don't know, maybe, but do.
- 1:26:12Speaker 5: You believe that he was if they passed on him?
- 1:26:15Speaker 5: Because at the time, wasn't it Josh McDaniels who was
- 1:26:18Speaker 5: high on the Marjack?
- 1:26:19Speaker 6: That was the story, That was the narrative, as the
- 1:26:22Speaker 6: kids like to say.
- 1:26:23Speaker 5: Right, So I'd be interested maybe off record, Hey Josh, so.
- 1:26:27Speaker 6: Here's my feeling on some of these things. And listen.
- 1:26:31Speaker 6: I take the book and face value for what it is.
- 1:26:33Speaker 6: I'll probably try to read it when it gets made
- 1:26:36Speaker 6: available to the peasants. But it's almost never like who's
- 1:26:43Speaker 6: your biggest what was your biggest regret passing on well,
- 1:26:45Speaker 6: you know, actually we dodged a bullet in twenty seventeen.
- 1:26:48Speaker 6: We were going to draft might do so and he
- 1:26:52Speaker 6: turned out to be out of the league, And like
- 1:26:53Speaker 6: it's always like, oh, a two time MVP, right who,
- 1:26:57Speaker 6: Like I knew he was good. Yeah, I should have
- 1:27:01Speaker 6: taken him, you know, like I was in on it. Yeah,
- 1:27:05Speaker 6: eighteen was.
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: That the year of the Mark?
- 1:27:06Speaker 6: Yeah, eighteen to pick before they used on Sony Michelle.
- 1:27:10Speaker 9: Yeah, and what would I what would a Brady's reaction
- 1:27:13Speaker 9: have been like at that one? Like that's to me,
- 1:27:15Speaker 9: is well, it would have changed things.
- 1:27:18Speaker 6: Right, But at that point he's the true successor. Yeah, right,
- 1:27:22Speaker 6: because Brady was only here for two more years, right,
- 1:27:25Speaker 6: eighteen and nineteen.
- 1:27:27Speaker 9: But it seems like just such like you think, like
- 1:27:29Speaker 9: Jimmy G in the second round is one thing, but
- 1:27:31Speaker 9: Lamar in the first round just a few years after.
- 1:27:34Speaker 6: Just after you probably only about ten picks difference, like
- 1:27:37Speaker 6: thirty two. What was Jimmy G like forty yeah, forty
- 1:27:40Speaker 6: one something like that.
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: Still though, just the perception of this is what I.
- 1:27:44Speaker 6: Lean on you, I come to you one time, can't
- 1:27:46Speaker 6: come through, and then this is the manutia I've spent
- 1:27:49Speaker 6: from you.
- 1:27:49Speaker 5: And then the other one of the few mistakes he
- 1:27:52Speaker 5: thinks he ever made winning Robbie Gold. No, well he
- 1:27:56Speaker 5: said that before.
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: He didn't.
- 1:27:57Speaker 5: I guess he didn't.
- 1:27:58Speaker 6: Another one like it wasn't too. It wasn't cutting the
- 1:28:01Speaker 6: kicker who couldn't kick. It wasn't you know, cutting a
- 1:28:03Speaker 6: guy who's no longer in the league and you never
- 1:28:05Speaker 6: heard of. It was cutting a guy who turned out
- 1:28:07Speaker 6: to be one of the best kickers in football.
- 1:28:08Speaker 5: Right, but he mentioned, he says in the book, and
- 1:28:12Speaker 5: I didn't read it, so I hope I'm getting it.
- 1:28:15Speaker 5: But he said that there really was no such thing
- 1:28:17Speaker 5: as the Patriot Way. It was something they made up
- 1:28:20Speaker 5: and they probably made a lot of money off of it.
- 1:28:22Speaker 5: Wasn't that Scott Pioli that came up with the Patriot Way.
- 1:28:26Speaker 6: I don't believe. So, no, but don't hold me today.
- 1:28:29Speaker 6: I don't listen because Peoli was very similar when he
- 1:28:31Speaker 6: did the Pats from the Past with Matt and I.
- 1:28:33Speaker 5: Yeah, the Patriot listen, no disrespect to our marketing department,
- 1:28:39Speaker 5: but it didn't come from there. It came from the
- 1:28:42Speaker 5: football area, either a player or a coach or or Poli.
- 1:28:48Speaker 6: I always thought it kind of came from the media.
- 1:28:51Speaker 5: It might have come from the media, but it did
- 1:28:53Speaker 5: not come from It did not come from I've heard
- 1:28:57Speaker 5: or anything like.
- 1:28:57Speaker 6: I've had football people several times make comments similar to
- 1:29:04Speaker 6: No one inside this building has ever referred to the
- 1:29:06Speaker 6: Patriot Way, right, Yeah, in any regard, right Bill, I think,
- 1:29:12Speaker 6: like I said, I'm pretty sure Appeoli did. Maybe it
- 1:29:14Speaker 6: wasn't on the podcast. It might have just when Matt
- 1:29:17Speaker 6: and I were talking to Scott. Okay, but I've heard
- 1:29:20Speaker 6: a lot of people in football really pushback that they've
- 1:29:22Speaker 6: never and we sort the Patriot ways to push back too.
- 1:29:26Speaker 9: I think Robert Kraft has yeah right for me, Like
- 1:29:29Speaker 9: I understand why he wants to distance himself from it,
- 1:29:32Speaker 9: but I see that as such a sign of respect
- 1:29:34Speaker 9: for him in the program that he created, that it
- 1:29:36Speaker 9: had its own personality that they had to find a
- 1:29:39Speaker 9: name for right or not right.
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: The perception of.
- 1:29:42Speaker 9: This team was that they were doing something special here
- 1:29:44Speaker 9: and it was the Patriot Way was about having guys
- 1:29:47Speaker 9: step up into roles that you know and right or wrong.
- 1:29:49Speaker 9: That's the perception of this team in the Dynasty. So
- 1:29:52Speaker 9: to me hearing the Patriot Way, I get why Bill
- 1:29:54Speaker 9: doesn't want to be put under that name, but I
- 1:29:57Speaker 9: see that as the ultimate sign of respect for what he.
- 1:30:01Speaker 5: But I think his intention was like it was kind
- 1:30:03Speaker 5: of a shot, like it was like a marketing.
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: Like somebody's making money off I can tell you.
- 1:30:09Speaker 5: It was not. It came organically either from a player
- 1:30:14Speaker 5: like Bruski or but it did not come from like
- 1:30:18Speaker 5: the marketing people you know that come up with the slogans.
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: I've never seen a stat slogan on the shirt. I've
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: seen do your job once.
- 1:30:24Speaker 5: He was out there. They might have adopted it, but
- 1:30:27Speaker 5: it did not originate from like, you know, a non
- 1:30:31Speaker 5: organic way. It either came from, like Paul says, somebody
- 1:30:33Speaker 5: in the media or a player said it.
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: No question, somebody's got to get to the bottom of that.
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: Where is the origin of the Patriot Way? Yeah? Where
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: did it start?
- 1:30:42Speaker 6: I'll let you you guys can do that. You can
- 1:30:44Speaker 6: put that on your hoodie database.
- 1:30:49Speaker 5: This stuff I think. I think anytime like a team globally, well,
- 1:30:54Speaker 5: like you know the curtain, Yeah, like something happens, difference.
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm here for that.
- 1:31:01Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm here for the steel character, like the Purple
- 1:31:03Speaker 6: people eaters, the Orange Crush like not as much. Maybe
- 1:31:09Speaker 6: that might be my for the Raiders.
- 1:31:10Speaker 9: That because it's describing the program of the.
- 1:31:13Speaker 6: But like slogans that you're specifically like like the New
- 1:31:18Speaker 6: York Sack Exchange. That was fun. This was a fun nickname, right,
- 1:31:22Speaker 6: the Patriot Way, the like do your jobs kind of stuff.
- 1:31:27Speaker 6: And I understand, you know, I'm not criticizing anyone, and
- 1:31:30Speaker 6: we all have different jobs to do. I just those
- 1:31:32Speaker 6: have never really resonated with me.
- 1:31:35Speaker 5: I like to do your job.
- 1:31:37Speaker 6: I thought that was kind of silly. Really, you know, Bill,
- 1:31:40Speaker 6: you know I'm probably gonna be like made fun of Now,
- 1:31:43Speaker 6: Oh Bill's not here anymore. Like no, I felt like
- 1:31:45Speaker 6: that at the time, like he's a brilliant coach, and
- 1:31:49Speaker 6: he was like, you know, I have this this coaching philosophy.
- 1:31:52Speaker 6: Ev from now on, I just want you to analyze football.
- 1:31:56Speaker 6: I want you to do your job. But put me
- 1:31:59Speaker 6: in the Hall of Fame.
- 1:32:00Speaker 5: Push back on you, Paul, and I go back to Purcels.
- 1:32:06Speaker 5: Players need to know who they are and their role.
- 1:32:09Speaker 5: I mean, players get in trouble on the field when
- 1:32:12Speaker 5: they go outside of what they've been asked to do
- 1:32:15Speaker 5: and they try to freelance and like ty Locke and
- 1:32:19Speaker 5: get away with it.
- 1:32:19Speaker 6: I agree with that, and so I think Bill.
- 1:32:21Speaker 5: Sees that in like in those critical moments he's on
- 1:32:24Speaker 5: the sideland going just do your job.
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: You know, I totally I thought that was perfect.
- 1:32:31Speaker 6: I totally agree with all of that. Yeah, but let's
- 1:32:33Speaker 6: not make it out to be this revolutionary philosophy. Like
- 1:32:35Speaker 6: every coach that's ever coached says that. Now, like all
- 1:32:39Speaker 6: of a sudden, he happened to get caught, as you said,
- 1:32:41Speaker 6: on the sidelines, just do your job light bulb.
- 1:32:45Speaker 5: Well, now that's where I will say that our marketing
- 1:32:48Speaker 5: department did adopt that, yes and took it off.
- 1:32:50Speaker 9: Yes.
- 1:32:51Speaker 5: Yeah, that that's one.
- 1:32:52Speaker 6: Where I agree with your like your philosophy and like coaching. Yeah,
- 1:32:57Speaker 6: you can get in trouble by trying to do too much.
- 1:32:58Speaker 6: Just do what you're supposed to do. Don't worry about
- 1:33:01Speaker 6: what Mike's doing. Just do what Paul's doing.
- 1:33:03Speaker 5: Yeah, you'll be fine. I kind of like taking over
- 1:33:06Speaker 5: that one. I think that was a good one to leverage.
- 1:33:09Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 1:33:09Speaker 9: I put to your job on a T shirt and
- 1:33:11Speaker 9: I got seasoned assisted by the NFL circuit twenty ten.
- 1:33:13Speaker 9: I was that was one of the first ones I
- 1:33:15Speaker 9: popped on there.
- 1:33:16Speaker 6: But I love hearing these stories about Mike almost being.
- 1:33:19Speaker 9: A legal document from I'm just writing my little blog,
- 1:33:22Speaker 9: you know, my mom's basement, I guess.
- 1:33:23Speaker 6: I mean.
- 1:33:24Speaker 5: We still have the series on pages dot com of
- 1:33:26Speaker 5: the behind the scenes jobs that happen on football in
- 1:33:29Speaker 5: the stadium. Do your Job? I like that one. I
- 1:33:31Speaker 5: don't mind it. I don't think it's silly.
- 1:33:33Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm not a big fan of though it was
- 1:33:36Speaker 6: big with a it is what it is. I like nicknames.
- 1:33:40Speaker 9: It is that was that was one of his earlier
- 1:33:43Speaker 9: it is what it is.
- 1:33:44Speaker 6: What it is like that's unbelievable to me that something
- 1:33:46Speaker 6: as benign as that could take on a life of
- 1:33:48Speaker 6: its own.
- 1:33:49Speaker 5: Well, when you say so few things, you know, I
- 1:33:52Speaker 5: just wish so we could get like something.
- 1:33:56Speaker 4: Maybe it will happen once he's truly retired from coaching,
- 1:33:59Speaker 4: but like something that's truly candid and like truly authentic
- 1:34:04Speaker 4: of Bill. Like you know, I kind of agree with Paul, like, oh,
- 1:34:06Speaker 4: now you liked Lamar Jackson and regret passing on him,
- 1:34:10Speaker 4: like you know, not that there was people calling into
- 1:34:13Speaker 4: shows like this saying that they should draft Lamar Jackson
- 1:34:15Speaker 4: a lot of people in eighteen, right, Like so, I
- 1:34:18Speaker 4: don't know, but I always look at Lamar as an
- 1:34:21Speaker 4: interesting case study because I think if he had come
- 1:34:23Speaker 4: around now instead of back in eighteen, he's the number
- 1:34:27Speaker 4: one over he would.
- 1:34:28Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:34:29Speaker 5: But the thing about drafting Lamar Jackson, especially when you
- 1:34:32Speaker 5: have Tom Brady, he's how are you developing and getting
- 1:34:37Speaker 5: him ready? Yeah you can't not in your offense?
- 1:34:40Speaker 6: Well, Driving Baltimore did it, yeah, yeah, but they.
- 1:34:43Speaker 5: They made a commitment to him, right, away.
- 1:34:45Speaker 6: No, they did not, Yes, they did. They absolutely did not.
- 1:34:49Speaker 6: They made a commitment to him in year two. Okay,
- 1:34:51Speaker 6: after he replaced in Flacco, they did nothing to cater
- 1:34:55Speaker 6: to him. In year year two Flacco was the incumbent
- 1:34:59Speaker 6: Flacco I.
- 1:35:00Speaker 7: Think you.
- 1:35:02Speaker 5: I know he's right. In year two they were ready
- 1:35:05Speaker 5: for him.
- 1:35:05Speaker 6: And then they committed to him, but they did nothing
- 1:35:08Speaker 6: to prepare to do that. They took he fell in
- 1:35:11Speaker 6: their laps. They took him. Flacco ran the very conventional
- 1:35:15Speaker 6: ravens he had to come in, and then he ran
- 1:35:18Speaker 6: around and made places as an athlete, and they said,
- 1:35:20Speaker 6: now we need to cater.
- 1:35:22Speaker 5: I'm not arguing with that. But in year two they
- 1:35:24Speaker 5: were ready for him, they were ready to make that commitment.
- 1:35:27Speaker 5: They that would not have happened if the Patriots had
- 1:35:30Speaker 5: because they had Tom Brady for a year, two more years.
- 1:35:35Speaker 6: So the one year is the year they did nothing.
- 1:35:37Speaker 6: Now it's one more year that Brady's the quarterback, and
- 1:35:41Speaker 6: there was Why would they not have said Brady's going
- 1:35:43Speaker 6: they knew he was going.
- 1:35:46Speaker 5: I don't know if they knew he was going. I
- 1:35:48Speaker 5: don't know about that. That's what they I don't know about.
- 1:35:50Speaker 6: This is what I would push that. That's the only
- 1:35:52Speaker 6: part that I found even interesting in any of those years.
- 1:35:55Speaker 5: They did know Flacco was going and no they didn't,
- 1:35:58Speaker 5: and anybody drafted Lamar Jackson had to be ready to
- 1:36:03Speaker 5: make that commitment that we're going to change our offense.
- 1:36:06Speaker 5: I think they made like that at the time.
- 1:36:08Speaker 6: I think they made the commitment on the fly. I
- 1:36:10Speaker 6: don't think that they were.
- 1:36:12Speaker 5: Made the commitment when they drafted.
- 1:36:14Speaker 6: I don't think they did Greg Roman. I'm pretty sure
- 1:36:17Speaker 6: Greg Roman came in the year.
- 1:36:18Speaker 7: After I don't remember the year, but they knew that if.
- 1:36:20Speaker 5: We draft this guy, and I get I give them
- 1:36:23Speaker 5: all the credit in the world. I did it at
- 1:36:25Speaker 5: the frontime for Harbaugh, and I do it now. They
- 1:36:28Speaker 5: were the only team that had the I'll take you
- 1:36:30Speaker 5: to go and take.
- 1:36:31Speaker 6: Your word for it, because, as I've said millions of times,
- 1:36:33Speaker 6: the CTE kicks in. I think Greg Roman came in
- 1:36:36Speaker 6: in nineteen I think they changed their whole offense. I
- 1:36:39Speaker 6: think when they drafted and there were still people that
- 1:36:41Speaker 6: thought he might not even be a quarterback.
- 1:36:43Speaker 5: No, I do not think that they guy in the
- 1:36:45Speaker 5: first round. I don't know if we're going to use him.
- 1:36:47Speaker 7: Or not Greg was on the staff. They knew, but
- 1:36:50Speaker 7: he was not.
- 1:36:53Speaker 10: Right.
- 1:36:53Speaker 6: So that was a complete switch.
- 1:36:55Speaker 5: But they exactly they knew when they drafted him, we're
- 1:36:58Speaker 5: going to have to switch our wes a lot sooner
- 1:37:05Speaker 5: than eventually they go to have been two years, just
- 1:37:09Speaker 5: like it's just like here. Yeah, I don't know, I
- 1:37:11Speaker 5: don't know. I don't think so much anyway, I see.
- 1:37:14Speaker 5: I give them all the credit. I don't think any
- 1:37:15Speaker 5: team had the nerve to do what they did.
- 1:37:18Speaker 7: I just don't think it just credit.
- 1:37:19Speaker 4: I don't ever think it was ever that big of
- 1:37:21Speaker 4: a change. And I think that that was what got
- 1:37:24Speaker 4: overrated about Lamar when he was coming out, was that
- 1:37:27Speaker 4: he wasn't going to be able to throw from the
- 1:37:30Speaker 4: pocket and he wasn't going to be able to do
- 1:37:31Speaker 4: the things that traditional quarterbats.
- 1:37:34Speaker 6: That's what I remember.
- 1:37:35Speaker 5: It was a big change. It was a huge change.
- 1:37:38Speaker 6: I mean, I think the read option and everything was
- 1:37:39Speaker 6: a change from what Flacco was running.
- 1:37:41Speaker 4: Oh no, no, no, I mean like what they were
- 1:37:43Speaker 4: doing in Baltimore. Sure, but I'm talking about like more
- 1:37:46Speaker 4: like the development of football and where the game was
- 1:37:48Speaker 4: headed in all those because nowadays all these quarterbacks.
- 1:37:51Speaker 5: Oh yeah, but not back then.
- 1:37:53Speaker 7: But but we were.
- 1:37:54Speaker 4: He was the first of the you know, not the first,
- 1:37:56Speaker 4: but one of the first in the curve. And I
- 1:37:58Speaker 4: just like, you know, if he was if he was
- 1:38:00Speaker 4: in this draft or even last year's draft, like he
- 1:38:02Speaker 4: might be the number one pick in the draft, because
- 1:38:04Speaker 4: everybody does all.
- 1:38:05Speaker 6: Right, but this is today, this was I I agree
- 1:38:08Speaker 6: with all the stuff you're saying about Baltimore. I would
- 1:38:10Speaker 6: agree with they did it. No one else did. They
- 1:38:13Speaker 6: did it, so they do deserve credit for that. My
- 1:38:16Speaker 6: bigger picture thing with the Belichick comment is back to
- 1:38:20Speaker 6: kind of the way Evan was talking. It's not even
- 1:38:22Speaker 6: so much that Lamar Jackson is really good. It's like,
- 1:38:25Speaker 6: let's say Lamar Jackson was Tim Tebow and he really
- 1:38:29Speaker 6: wanted Tim Tebow and he regretted taking Sony Michelle instead
- 1:38:33Speaker 6: of Tim Tebow at thirty two. Do you think that
- 1:38:35Speaker 6: that would have been the example he used.
- 1:38:36Speaker 5: It's hindsight.
- 1:38:38Speaker 6: It's hindsight, that's my point.
- 1:38:40Speaker 9: Well, it's also like I didn't regret not playing Malcolm
- 1:38:42Speaker 9: Butler in the Super Bowl.
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: There's none of like those those Well, that.
- 1:38:45Speaker 5: Wasn't in the mistake. That wasn't a mistake.
- 1:38:47Speaker 6: He didn't even yeah, it's not a mistake. He didn't
- 1:38:49Speaker 6: even mention.
- 1:38:50Speaker 9: Well, what if you could you trade Brady in nineteen,
- 1:38:52Speaker 9: then if he won the Super Bowl in eighteen, you
- 1:38:54Speaker 9: got lamar and then you just say, we just won
- 1:38:56Speaker 9: a super Bowl. Tom's stock is pretty high. Let's get
- 1:39:00Speaker 9: let's move him now and just make the switch now
- 1:39:02Speaker 9: to Lamarga.
- 1:39:02Speaker 6: I think they could.
- 1:39:03Speaker 7: I don't think.
- 1:39:04Speaker 6: I don't think they ever would have done it, But
- 1:39:06Speaker 6: like it was apparent heading into the nineteen season that
- 1:39:10Speaker 6: there was a I don't call it ninety percent chance
- 1:39:13Speaker 6: that Brady was gone. Mike, you and I were sitting
- 1:39:15Speaker 6: there listening to Tom. I want to say, in Detroit,
- 1:39:19Speaker 6: say go ask mister Craft. Or it might have been
- 1:39:22Speaker 6: it was either Nashville or Detroit, one of those trips.
- 1:39:24Speaker 13: That I.
- 1:39:26Speaker 6: Wasn't in Detroit, you know, go ask mister Craft. Like
- 1:39:30Speaker 6: the writing was on the wall. Bill didn't want him anymore.
- 1:39:33Speaker 6: I think Tom had tired of playing for Bill. He
- 1:39:35Speaker 6: deserves blame too, he said. And it was money related
- 1:39:39Speaker 6: to That's all all part of it.
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: All this stuff is true in this book.
- 1:39:42Speaker 6: So if you take a quarterback in the first round
- 1:39:44Speaker 6: in eighteen, he's going to be the quarterback within the
- 1:39:47Speaker 6: next three years. I don't think there's any problem there,
- 1:39:52Speaker 6: but in terms.
- 1:39:52Speaker 5: Of breaking but even that might like so Bill says
- 1:39:55Speaker 5: in the book it was money related, it was, but
- 1:39:59Speaker 5: it wasn't all money related, you know, like he just
- 1:40:03Speaker 5: can't admit like, yeah.
- 1:40:05Speaker 6: Maybe anything, Yeah, you can never.
- 1:40:07Speaker 5: Maybe I should have done differently.
- 1:40:10Speaker 6: He's very clever. He's a very very bright guy. And
- 1:40:13Speaker 6: I'm not saying that ironically. He's a very smart guy.
- 1:40:16Speaker 6: He has a way of my mistakes, if you really
- 1:40:21Speaker 6: parse it out, aren't really mistakes, right, there are signs
- 1:40:25Speaker 6: that I always knew what I was doing, but I
- 1:40:28Speaker 6: regret this. This is you know, like fred Fred has
- 1:40:32Speaker 6: hit back me up. There was a time like in
- 1:40:35Speaker 6: eight or so that his biggest regret personnel wise, was
- 1:40:39Speaker 6: allowing Robbie Gold to leave kicker. Who was the kicker
- 1:40:42Speaker 6: at the time, Adam Vinitari. Do you think anyone's going
- 1:40:46Speaker 6: to criticize that move, like, well, you didn't kick Adam
- 1:40:50Speaker 6: to the curb for Robbie Gold.
- 1:40:52Speaker 2: No.
- 1:40:52Speaker 6: He has a way of saying, my mistakes, even my mistakes, I'm.
- 1:40:56Speaker 5: Signs of brilliantly understandable.
- 1:40:58Speaker 6: They're all understandable, and there are all other examples of
- 1:41:01Speaker 6: my brilliance, right right, that's he That's what he's all about.
- 1:41:05Speaker 6: It's never like, you know what, I came up with
- 1:41:09Speaker 6: this game plan in week four and it got absolutely eviscerated.
- 1:41:12Speaker 6: I blew it, and I cost our team the game.
- 1:41:15Speaker 6: The players all did their jobs. It was my game.
- 1:41:17Speaker 5: But Steven Jackson could win us a game in Miami.
- 1:41:20Speaker 6: Never right, He'll tell you that the blocking broke down
- 1:41:23Speaker 6: in that game. That was a great game plan. The
- 1:41:24Speaker 6: blocking broke down.
- 1:41:25Speaker 5: And we're not And I'm not saying that Bill isn't
- 1:41:27Speaker 5: brilliant and he's best coach, but like even the best
- 1:41:31Speaker 5: make mistakes, you know.
- 1:41:33Speaker 6: But his mistakes are other examples of how good he is.
- 1:41:37Speaker 6: They're not really mistakes.
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: I think we probably would all agree that Josh probably really.
- 1:41:43Speaker 9: Liked Lamar, and you just wonder how I understand was
- 1:41:46Speaker 9: Bill that's how I high on Lamar and and then
- 1:41:49Speaker 9: couldn't really just get there with him?
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: Or was he dismissive of Lamar?
- 1:41:52Speaker 9: And he had staff that all wanted him, and like,
- 1:41:55Speaker 9: what was the mistake?
- 1:41:56Speaker 6: Really knowing his core? Bill's core? Like he doesn't think
- 1:41:59Speaker 6: that's right football.
- 1:42:01Speaker 4: Which is so funny to me because it's the beer.
- 1:42:04Speaker 4: It's like like, isn't that supposed to be?
- 1:42:07Speaker 10: Right?
- 1:42:07Speaker 7: It's like as a football.
- 1:42:10Speaker 5: Like school football that we have run counter bash, which
- 1:42:15Speaker 5: they did what.
- 1:42:17Speaker 6: They run at North Carolina.
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: Me too, Me too. I I mean, well, I've never
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: known Jordan's cheek the staff, no.
- 1:42:28Speaker 6: I I will be curious to see what kind of
- 1:42:30Speaker 6: offense and what kind of quarterback they have. This is
- 1:42:32Speaker 6: a true dual threat guy because even after you know,
- 1:42:37Speaker 6: like Lamar's you know, success that takes off, they never
- 1:42:40Speaker 6: really had a guy that could run that. You know,
- 1:42:42Speaker 6: Mac Jones and Bailey is Appy weren't running that, so
- 1:42:45Speaker 6: I wonder, right, and that's what he would do.
- 1:42:48Speaker 7: Those are the guys that he drafted.
- 1:42:50Speaker 4: You know, let's take Cam out of it, because it
- 1:42:52Speaker 4: Cam was kind of but like, but they drafted guys
- 1:42:56Speaker 4: that were not any clean close to Lamar. They drafted
- 1:42:59Speaker 4: pocket pass, trying to recreate.
- 1:43:01Speaker 6: Tommy jam Gill couldn't throw. Unfortunately, he ran well that year,
- 1:43:05Speaker 6: but he couldn't ever consistently throw. So you never really
- 1:43:07Speaker 6: got that.
- 1:43:08Speaker 7: But you look at it.
- 1:43:09Speaker 4: Bil would have done what Josh did with Cam, and
- 1:43:11Speaker 4: you said, Okay, Well, if Josh were doing that with
- 1:43:13Speaker 4: Lamar Jackson instead of you know, Cam Newton at that
- 1:43:16Speaker 4: stage of his career, you can see how that offense
- 1:43:19Speaker 4: would be have been highly successful for mar Jackson.
- 1:43:22Speaker 5: All right, let's go back to the hotline. Jasper's in Summerville.
- 1:43:26Speaker 2: What's up?
- 1:43:27Speaker 5: Jasper?
- 1:43:30Speaker 6: Jasper wasting away?
- 1:43:33Speaker 5: All right, let's go to Patty and am what's up Patty?
- 1:43:37Speaker 2: Oh?
- 1:43:38Speaker 6: Yeah, what's up?
- 1:43:39Speaker 5: Guys?
- 1:43:40Speaker 3: Hey, I'm wondering if enough build list of mistakes.
- 1:43:43Speaker 15: He he lists going forward on fourth and thirteen and
- 1:43:46Speaker 15: the Super Bowl as opposed to attempting a forty eight
- 1:43:48Speaker 15: yard field goal.
- 1:43:49Speaker 6: Yeah, that's that's a good example, Patty. Like that, to
- 1:43:52Speaker 6: me would be an example of, you know, one of
- 1:43:55Speaker 6: my biggest regrets, passing up a field goal in a
- 1:43:57Speaker 6: field goal game. But go for fourth and thirteen.
- 1:44:00Speaker 5: But in all fairness, maybe he still doesn't think that
- 1:44:02Speaker 5: was a mistake.
- 1:44:02Speaker 6: Oh, I'm quite certain he doesn't think it was a
- 1:44:04Speaker 6: mistaken That's my whole point. He doesn't think he's ever
- 1:44:07Speaker 6: made one.
- 1:44:08Speaker 5: I know, but I would, you know, but I mean, honestly, sincerely,
- 1:44:11Speaker 5: he doesn't believe it's a mistake.
- 1:44:13Speaker 6: I think that that kind of ego does not ever
- 1:44:16Speaker 6: think they make a mistake.
- 1:44:19Speaker 5: Maybe he should have called the second guesses instead of
- 1:44:21Speaker 5: mistakes and then maybe would get some more you know.
- 1:44:25Speaker 9: Well, it's like you said, Paul, you're not going to
- 1:44:27Speaker 9: hear a contact decision that cost the team a win,
- 1:44:31Speaker 9: which is probably a lot of them.
- 1:44:33Speaker 6: And that's a great example that Patty brought up. Like
- 1:44:35Speaker 6: the fourth and two at Indye, to me is not
- 1:44:37Speaker 6: because I think you can make a really strong argument
- 1:44:40Speaker 6: that you.
- 1:44:40Speaker 2: Couldn't stop him.
- 1:44:41Speaker 6: We can get two yards and win the game. I'm
- 1:44:43Speaker 6: going to do that. I think a lot of teams
- 1:44:45Speaker 6: do that now. The Lunatic in Detroit does it on
- 1:44:47Speaker 6: a weekly basis, even if he can win the game.
- 1:44:50Speaker 6: Dan Campbell does it all the time.
- 1:44:52Speaker 5: I think you can.
- 1:44:53Speaker 6: I at the time, and I still would say that
- 1:44:55Speaker 6: that was a mistake. He should have just punted. But
- 1:44:58Speaker 6: I think you can make a very wrong argument for that.
- 1:45:00Speaker 6: I don't think there's a really good argument to go
- 1:45:02Speaker 6: for fourth and thirteen when you're in field goal range.
- 1:45:06Speaker 6: Fourth and thirteen is not a high percentage play. Coaches
- 1:45:09Speaker 6: like that generally try to play the percentages. You got
- 1:45:13Speaker 6: to tell me that he had a better chance of
- 1:45:14Speaker 6: making a forty eight yard field goal than converting fourth
- 1:45:16Speaker 6: and thirteen.
- 1:45:17Speaker 5: Yeah, right, Well, at the time, was Gostkowski having trouble
- 1:45:21Speaker 5: with the longer kicks?
- 1:45:22Speaker 6: Again, this is the narrative that comes out because this
- 1:45:25Speaker 6: is what happened. I know, and you know Gostowski's now
- 1:45:28Speaker 6: had the worst pregame warm up ever, right, and he
- 1:45:30Speaker 6: was scared. He was skittish in the Super Bowl in
- 1:45:33Speaker 6: his rookie year and or whatever second year or whatever
- 1:45:36Speaker 6: it was. Yeah, Like I don't know, maybe he was,
- 1:45:40Speaker 6: Maybe he was, But like I just feel like that's
- 1:45:42Speaker 6: a great example of and I don't think that that
- 1:45:44Speaker 6: would come up for him. No, got to make the play.
- 1:45:46Speaker 6: Brady should have made the throw. That's the way he'd
- 1:45:48Speaker 6: look at it. Need to tell me we don't have
- 1:45:52Speaker 6: a guy Foxborough he could make that throw.
- 1:45:55Speaker 5: Floyd and Redford Michigan writes in Albert Breer said you
- 1:45:59Speaker 5: don't pass on great for very good to fill the
- 1:46:02Speaker 5: need right now. He also said the Patriots are in
- 1:46:05Speaker 5: no position to draft for twenty twenty five, in other words,
- 1:46:08Speaker 5: need now over long term. Do you agree with Albert Breer?
- 1:46:12Speaker 4: I think it's a nice sentiment, I don't think it
- 1:46:16Speaker 4: necessarily applies to a draft like.
- 1:46:18Speaker 6: This, correct. I think in theory I would agree one
- 1:46:21Speaker 6: hundred percent with Breer's statement. I wouldn't pass on Abdul
- 1:46:24Speaker 6: Carter or Travis Hunter to fill the need now. But
- 1:46:28Speaker 6: I think Evan's gonna be right. I think you're gonna
- 1:46:30Speaker 6: be deciding between similar players, and you go with the
- 1:46:33Speaker 6: one that fills the biggest need. And if that's Will Campbell,
- 1:46:36Speaker 6: it's Will Campbell.
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: That's how you're horizontally stacked. If I tried.
- 1:46:39Speaker 6: Did you get it?
- 1:46:40Speaker 7: I tried to that that wasn't what I was looking for.
- 1:46:44Speaker 7: He knew though he knew how he knew what I
- 1:46:46Speaker 7: was going for, and he he didn't.
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: How was the mood in the in the in the
- 1:46:51Speaker 1: press conference there, ev it was?
- 1:46:54Speaker 7: It was interesting.
- 1:46:55Speaker 4: It was like it was kind of you know, the
- 1:46:57Speaker 4: same people, like a couple people got multiple questions and
- 1:47:00Speaker 4: like it wasn't like as contentious.
- 1:47:02Speaker 7: To get a question off as like even.
- 1:47:04Speaker 5: I got a question and usually I try to what
- 1:47:06Speaker 5: was your question?
- 1:47:07Speaker 7: Didn't He asked about the.
- 1:47:10Speaker 4: Tie breakers in terms of, you know, if you have
- 1:47:13Speaker 4: guys that are graded similarly on the board, like how
- 1:47:15Speaker 4: do you how do you stack them?
- 1:47:17Speaker 7: You know, how do you grade them? And he got
- 1:47:19Speaker 7: into the vertical.
- 1:47:20Speaker 5: And the horz I caught the tail in. I was
- 1:47:23Speaker 5: out yelling less.
- 1:47:24Speaker 9: About the running backs there at the end.
- 1:47:26Speaker 7: I believe that was ben Volan.
- 1:47:27Speaker 6: That's my guy, Benny. Benny asked about the running back,
- 1:47:30Speaker 6: how do you value the great question?
- 1:47:34Speaker 7: You know, it was a little a little subdued, trying.
- 1:47:37Speaker 6: Yeah, it was was my buddy Mike there. I didn't
- 1:47:39Speaker 6: hear a question from Mike, Yes, he was there. I
- 1:47:41Speaker 6: didn't hear. Yeah, I did hear Mike asked a question.
- 1:47:46Speaker 4: And sometimes you get into those press conferences and they
- 1:47:48Speaker 4: kind of pepper the guy a little bit, you know,
- 1:47:50Speaker 4: and it's it's a little bit more.
- 1:47:53Speaker 7: Some media groups do no I think our media group
- 1:47:56Speaker 7: does it. But I just don't think that this was
- 1:47:57Speaker 7: one of those. This was a little bit more.
- 1:47:59Speaker 6: Yeah, laid back, And I do think that that's a
- 1:48:01Speaker 6: hard I think it's a hard press conference. I think
- 1:48:03Speaker 6: there's a million questions that are really good questions that
- 1:48:05Speaker 6: you know, you're not really going to get answers to
- 1:48:08Speaker 6: because of the position that the guy's in, Like I
- 1:48:10Speaker 6: can't give away too much here my line of thought.
- 1:48:13Speaker 6: But yeah, yeah, I think I think those are kind
- 1:48:16Speaker 6: of chicky on both sides. What you're going to ask
- 1:48:19Speaker 6: you to answer?
- 1:48:20Speaker 5: Did they feed the media today?
- 1:48:22Speaker 7: Well, the groundbreaking up at Chick fil A.
- 1:48:24Speaker 5: They're giving away food there.
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: They bring some food down or is it all up
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: in the ground.
- 1:48:28Speaker 7: It's all up at the ground. You gotta go get it.
- 1:48:30Speaker 5: So they're trying to get media over there, ye, trying
- 1:48:32Speaker 5: to get probably work because wherever this food will go, Michael.
- 1:48:38Speaker 2: A swing back, take a walk.
- 1:48:41Speaker 6: Yeah, and the receptionist makes fun of me.
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: And then will go if they have a lemonade.
- 1:48:46Speaker 5: Yeah, I never do.
- 1:48:48Speaker 4: That was that was told to us last week was
- 1:48:52Speaker 4: no lunch, But Chick fil A up the street is
- 1:48:56Speaker 4: doing the groundbreaking. If you all want to go get
- 1:48:58Speaker 4: lunch there.
- 1:48:59Speaker 6: Oh very nice.
- 1:49:01Speaker 5: Is it still raining out?
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: No, no, no rain.
- 1:49:04Speaker 6: Maybe a little bit might be able to play a
- 1:49:06Speaker 6: little golf might be a rainout.
- 1:49:09Speaker 5: Rick writes in He's in Dallas. Have a draft question
- 1:49:14Speaker 5: specifically for Evan No, why wouldn't the Giants draft? Asktroon genty?
- 1:49:18Speaker 5: If cam Ward goes to the Titans and the Browns
- 1:49:20Speaker 5: take Travis Hunter, then based on expert consensus, there are
- 1:49:24Speaker 5: two blue chip players left, Abdul Carter and Genty. The
- 1:49:27Speaker 5: Giants already have solid defense, including two phenomenal edge rushers,
- 1:49:31Speaker 5: and both the GM and coach are in a win
- 1:49:33Speaker 5: now mode to save their jobs. If they truly are
- 1:49:35Speaker 5: punting on quarterback until next year, then pairing Genty with
- 1:49:39Speaker 5: Molik Neighbors, a serviceable Russell Wilson, and a solid defense
- 1:49:42Speaker 5: would certainly improve their record and set up whatever rookie
- 1:49:46Speaker 5: quarterback they take next year. Makes complete sense to me.
- 1:49:49Speaker 5: But I haven't heard anyone talking about this. Am I
- 1:49:52Speaker 5: completely living in a fantasy world? Or is this a
- 1:49:55Speaker 5: plausible draft scenario?
- 1:49:57Speaker 4: I think that the main reason why people aren't talking
- 1:50:00Speaker 4: about it is because the Giants did this with Saquon
- 1:50:02Speaker 4: Barkley and they've been this road, but you draft him, Yeah,
- 1:50:06Speaker 4: And I don't think that even though it's different regime,
- 1:50:08Speaker 4: different decision makers, is not a different owner.
- 1:50:12Speaker 6: And I think I would push back and say they
- 1:50:14Speaker 6: have a terrible defense, not a not a pretty good defense.
- 1:50:17Speaker 6: And I don't think Cavon Thibodeau has proven himself as
- 1:50:20Speaker 6: a standout defensive end either.
- 1:50:22Speaker 4: I would agree with that, But yeah, I think that
- 1:50:24Speaker 4: the main reason is is probably some you know saquon.
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: Yeah, well I just watch.
- 1:50:29Speaker 9: That's a great point, right, And so much of Hard
- 1:50:31Speaker 9: Knocks is them kind of convincing John Marra about why
- 1:50:34Speaker 9: we don't need him, why we should move on, what
- 1:50:36Speaker 9: we should do, and then yeah, to turn around one
- 1:50:38Speaker 9: year later and then be like, Andy, we're going to
- 1:50:39Speaker 9: spend the fourth overall pick on the rend.
- 1:50:40Speaker 6: You were right, you were right, You're right, John, I'm
- 1:50:43Speaker 6: going to take this right.
- 1:50:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:50:45Speaker 6: I mean, I don't ever rule anything out because I
- 1:50:47Speaker 6: see teams make enormous mistakes all the time. But I
- 1:50:51Speaker 6: just feel like there's not really a I don't think
- 1:50:53Speaker 6: that Genty and abdul cotter a comparable blue chip prospects.
- 1:50:59Speaker 6: I think Carter is much better.
- 1:51:01Speaker 7: But he's bat he's better.
- 1:51:04Speaker 4: I would say that right now, Gent's sweet spot is
- 1:51:07Speaker 4: in that six to ten rage somewhere.
- 1:51:09Speaker 6: Whether it's Vegas Raiders take you know someone.
- 1:51:13Speaker 4: Most people rule out Jacksonville because they have a nerd
- 1:51:16Speaker 4: running their team now, and most likely the analytics guys
- 1:51:19Speaker 4: are not going to take a running back that high.
- 1:51:22Speaker 4: So you know that most people have ruled Jacksonville out.
- 1:51:25Speaker 4: But Jacksonville is a weird team to me because I
- 1:51:27Speaker 4: because of that, like I'm not really like sure who
- 1:51:30Speaker 4: they're gonna draft. It's kind of weird to kind of
- 1:51:33Speaker 4: project because you know, they could do something that's a
- 1:51:36Speaker 4: little bit out of the ordinary at five because they're
- 1:51:39Speaker 4: going based off of a different grading scale than yeah, yeah,
- 1:51:45Speaker 4: like you know, conventional wisdom would say it's gent d
- 1:51:49Speaker 4: it's Mason Graham.
- 1:51:50Speaker 5: How cool would it be for ESPN and NFL Network
- 1:51:53Speaker 5: if the Jaguars trade Trevor Lawrence on draft Day.
- 1:51:57Speaker 7: I don't think that's gonna happen, but that'd be cool.
- 1:52:03Speaker 1: To do what I don't know because of analytics?
- 1:52:10Speaker 6: Then who plays quarterback? Oh man, what a tough SELLI is.
- 1:52:18Speaker 4: But like if if Shamar Stewart went to Jacksonville, just
- 1:52:23Speaker 4: the the the rod, but the athletic upside is just
- 1:52:30Speaker 4: off the charts. And I'm sure all of the analytics
- 1:52:32Speaker 4: models love the projection and all that stuff. Like I
- 1:52:35Speaker 4: could see that over like Mason Graham, when you walk
- 1:52:39Speaker 4: off the buzz, You're like, this guy's a top ten
- 1:52:41Speaker 4: pick in the draft. Like I just can't see an
- 1:52:43Speaker 4: analytics guy drafting drafting his drafting genty.
- 1:52:48Speaker 6: You just put the jinks on us.
- 1:52:50Speaker 7: What does the spreadsheets say?
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: Gla'm not picked behind him? You're kind of like, what
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: are they gonna do?
- 1:52:59Speaker 6: I could see, Yeah, I mean the Jacksonville thing is
- 1:53:02Speaker 6: interesting trading trading. I mean, I'm not ruling out to
- 1:53:06Speaker 6: trade Trevor Lawrence, but like then, what do you do?
- 1:53:08Speaker 6: You have to have some kind of plan. Well, like
- 1:53:10Speaker 6: you're playing. Can't be I'm trading Trevor Lawrence to replace
- 1:53:14Speaker 6: him what she was saying, plus.
- 1:53:15Speaker 7: Locked, I'm pretty sure.
- 1:53:17Speaker 6: I mean that even makes it more dire.
- 1:53:19Speaker 4: I mean, I'm pretty sure Liam Cone is there to
- 1:53:21Speaker 4: fix to fix Trevor Lawrence and tournament to Baker Mayfield.
- 1:53:25Speaker 1: Last year.
- 1:53:27Speaker 5: Most interesting Patriots fan of the world, James Pettigrew writes
- 1:53:30Speaker 5: in going back to Bill's Mistakes, I want Bill to
- 1:53:33Speaker 5: tell me how he felt as the Wildcat unfolded a
- 1:53:35Speaker 5: few times where he might have been overwhelmed, that that
- 1:53:38Speaker 5: was a great one. James, I was like, I was overwhelmed.
- 1:53:41Speaker 5: Oh my gosh, Yeah, why can't we stop this?
- 1:53:45Speaker 6: That Miami game was surreal?
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: What was it like in there?
- 1:53:48Speaker 9: It was like frustrating you neede, there was no to
- 1:53:52Speaker 9: be like, this is the wildcat, guys, like you just
- 1:53:53Speaker 9: stop it.
- 1:53:54Speaker 6: Oh no, everybody called it the wildcat, but like no
- 1:53:56Speaker 6: one really understood why the Patriots couldn't get in the
- 1:53:59Speaker 6: way extra gap Well, I mean, who knew it was
- 1:54:02Speaker 6: that simple? Very good if you remember, and you probably
- 1:54:08Speaker 6: won't because you're not losers like me. They went to
- 1:54:12Speaker 6: Denver in the Tebow era and the same thing happened
- 1:54:16Speaker 6: for about a quarter and a half and then Bill went.
- 1:54:21Speaker 5: And that was it.
- 1:54:22Speaker 6: It ended. But I do still wonder, like, why was
- 1:54:27Speaker 6: it so difficult to adjust to and stop.
- 1:54:31Speaker 9: With so many veteran players on defense who had by
- 1:54:33Speaker 9: that point seen everything you would think. I mean, the
- 1:54:35Speaker 9: Teddy Bruski's of the world look like they're like you know.
- 1:54:38Speaker 4: I feel like they had problems with mobile, dual threat
- 1:54:42Speaker 4: quarterbacks throughout his tenure, and I don't know if this
- 1:54:45Speaker 4: stas necessarily backed that up, but just anecdotally, it feels
- 1:54:49Speaker 4: like those types of guys always gave them some problems,
- 1:54:52Speaker 4: and I always chalked it up to personnel, like they
- 1:54:54Speaker 4: had heavier.
- 1:54:56Speaker 6: But those two games were not examples of that. Like
- 1:54:58Speaker 6: Chad Pennington was not a obal dual threat quarterback, and
- 1:55:01Speaker 6: Tim Tebow was not a dual threat quarterback. I'll just
- 1:55:05Speaker 6: leave it at that. Yeah, he only had a quarter
- 1:55:09Speaker 6: he was. He was a half a threat quarterback. He
- 1:55:11Speaker 6: was a good fullback. He could not throw. But I
- 1:55:15Speaker 6: I just when he was when he was a Patriot.
- 1:55:18Speaker 7: I wasn't but I went to training camp that summer.
- 1:55:20Speaker 6: Oh my god, you've never seen You've never ever seen
- 1:55:23Speaker 6: a quarterback throw the ball more poorly?
- 1:55:25Speaker 2: Then?
- 1:55:25Speaker 6: How could it be that bad?
- 1:55:26Speaker 1: Like That's what I always wondered. I'm like, this guy
- 1:55:28Speaker 1: played college football.
- 1:55:29Speaker 10: You wan't like.
- 1:55:31Speaker 6: He didn't just play college football. He's arguably one of
- 1:55:34Speaker 6: the five best college football players of all time, and
- 1:55:37Speaker 6: he couldn't throw.
- 1:55:38Speaker 5: That's what we got to ask Josh Tebow was like,
- 1:55:42Speaker 5: what a Josh?
- 1:55:43Speaker 1: I mean, that's another like Josh truths here and we
- 1:55:45Speaker 1: ever get him in here?
- 1:55:46Speaker 7: Yeah, I don't think we should.
- 1:55:47Speaker 6: It was a blown opportunity. Last year we had him,
- 1:55:50Speaker 6: We could have asked him anything like he was he was.
- 1:55:53Speaker 6: He was all over me and Mike last year. We
- 1:55:55Speaker 6: could have asked him anything.
- 1:55:58Speaker 5: Al from Wisconsin back to I'm surprised one of his
- 1:56:01Speaker 5: mistakes wasn't bowing to the pressure to get rid of Patricia.
- 1:56:06Speaker 1: Oh jeez, that's friend.
- 1:56:08Speaker 6: That's a that's a really really good example of what I'm.
- 1:56:12Speaker 5: Talking right exactly.
- 1:56:13Speaker 6: Yep, Yeah, because he would have run it back in
- 1:56:17Speaker 6: twenty three with you know, he would have if he had,
- 1:56:19Speaker 6: if he had no pressure to do anything. He thinks
- 1:56:22Speaker 6: it would have worked. Oh yeah, I didn't make a mistake.
- 1:56:24Speaker 7: Look at the last game of the season. We had
- 1:56:26Speaker 7: our best offensive performance of the year. That's what he
- 1:56:28Speaker 7: would have said. The game in Buffalo where they for
- 1:56:31Speaker 7: half they looked like a real offense.
- 1:56:34Speaker 6: Not the game that Rager returned to kick for a touchdown.
- 1:56:41Speaker 7: I don't believe so two years ago.
- 1:56:43Speaker 1: So you're talking about the Jets game, right, and now
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: they lost the Jets last year.
- 1:56:47Speaker 6: It was a Bills game in Buffalo, right, So yeah,
- 1:56:50Speaker 6: but it was a different game. It wasn't the game
- 1:56:52Speaker 6: that it.
- 1:56:53Speaker 5: Might have been.
- 1:56:54Speaker 7: But I remember that that half.
- 1:56:55Speaker 4: There's a Patricia year in Buffalo. I believe it was
- 1:56:58Speaker 4: the last game of the season where they actually looked
- 1:57:01Speaker 4: like a Yeah that.
- 1:57:05Speaker 5: Rehett says his biggest mistake was saying Brady couldn't play anymore.
- 1:57:09Speaker 6: I don't think that and his Roun. I'm going to
- 1:57:12Speaker 6: be strange. I don't think that was a mistake. I
- 1:57:16Speaker 6: think he said that the guys in his forties and
- 1:57:18Speaker 6: at some point he's not gonna have like he obviously
- 1:57:20Speaker 6: knew he could still playball, like how long.
- 1:57:23Speaker 5: Like.
- 1:57:23Speaker 6: I don't think that had any I don't think that
- 1:57:25Speaker 6: had a ton to do with his ability.
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: And he's probably ready for something new, just like Tom
- 1:57:28Speaker 1: is ready for something.
- 1:57:29Speaker 6: And I don't think that I've said this a million times.
- 1:57:32Speaker 6: I would have treated it like the Big Three for
- 1:57:34Speaker 6: the Celtics, and I would have let them all get
- 1:57:36Speaker 6: old together and let them go off into the sunset
- 1:57:39Speaker 6: and whatever, let them call this a shot. But I
- 1:57:43Speaker 6: don't think it's wrong to say, you know what, for
- 1:57:46Speaker 6: the best, the best thing for the football team is
- 1:57:48Speaker 6: to let Brady go and start over again, because whether
- 1:57:51Speaker 6: it's this year or next, he's not going to be
- 1:57:53Speaker 6: able to do this any any longer.
- 1:57:54Speaker 5: Well, and here's the thing. You know, we talk about
- 1:57:57Speaker 5: Parcels getting into the Patrios Hall of Fame, and I'm
- 1:58:00Speaker 5: famous for saying I would not vote for him, but
- 1:58:03Speaker 5: he's getting in good. Good for him. But the dar
- 1:58:05Speaker 5: between Bill Belichick and Bill Parcells in that respect is
- 1:58:08Speaker 5: Belichick wasn't for the long haul. He was thinking five
- 1:58:12Speaker 5: years down the road, parcels every year, didn't know if
- 1:58:15Speaker 5: he was going to come back.
- 1:58:16Speaker 6: I found a way to take a shot at Parcels.
- 1:58:17Speaker 5: No, No, I'm just saying that. I'm actually trying to
- 1:58:20Speaker 5: compliment Bill Belichick are and likes as much of a
- 1:58:24Speaker 5: pain in the ass he is to an owner and
- 1:58:27Speaker 5: owner like having a coach who is thinking down the
- 1:58:32Speaker 5: road is comforting for an owner.
- 1:58:36Speaker 9: Yeah, but I mean I just begs the question, and
- 1:58:38Speaker 9: why were they someone prepared at the quarterback position after
- 1:58:40Speaker 9: Brady if he knew he was getting older.
- 1:58:43Speaker 6: That's the mistake. The mistake is not having a plan.
- 1:58:47Speaker 5: Well, no, the Garoppolo was the plan, and Brady screwed
- 1:58:49Speaker 5: it up.
- 1:58:51Speaker 10: Okay, so you have four more years to have to
- 1:58:54Speaker 10: do another plan.
- 1:58:54Speaker 5: I get it. I get it. But I think at
- 1:58:57Speaker 5: that but yeah, we don't know all the stuff that
- 1:58:59Speaker 5: went that happened after that. But then I think started
- 1:59:02Speaker 5: things started to get real contentious between the owner, Brady
- 1:59:06Speaker 5: and Belichick.
- 1:59:07Speaker 6: But I'm just talking in the grand scheme of in
- 1:59:09Speaker 6: his largest mistakes, the mistake isn't letting Brady go while
- 1:59:14Speaker 6: he could still play. The mistake is not having a plan.
- 1:59:17Speaker 6: He traded Garoppolo in seventeen. It was apparent long before
- 1:59:21Speaker 6: that that Brady was going to outlive his plan, his
- 1:59:23Speaker 6: original plan from fourteen. You had ample time to figure
- 1:59:27Speaker 6: something out, so you know, maybe I should take it
- 1:59:30Speaker 6: more at face value, going back to the beginning here
- 1:59:32Speaker 6: with Lamar Jackson. Well, maybe that's why that's his mistake,
- 1:59:36Speaker 6: is that would have been my well succession plan part two.
- 1:59:40Speaker 1: But here's the thing.
- 1:59:40Speaker 6: Sorry, two point zero.
- 1:59:41Speaker 5: But here's the thing. So now about the draft, Brady
- 1:59:44Speaker 5: doesn't trust me anymore, you know, And so if I
- 1:59:47Speaker 5: draft this other guy, or if I reveal this other plan,
- 1:59:51Speaker 5: I'm gonna lose Brady. The Owner's going to be against me.
- 1:59:54Speaker 5: It's gonna be two against one. So now all I
- 1:59:56Speaker 5: can do right now is to suck at otch with
- 1:59:59Speaker 5: and what and and play it out, let him play
- 2:00:02Speaker 5: it out, and you know, if the owner forces me
- 2:00:04Speaker 5: to keep him and pay him, that's what I'll have
- 2:00:06Speaker 5: to do. But I'm just gonna wait it out. At
- 2:00:08Speaker 5: this point, I think it was there was a lot
- 2:00:11Speaker 5: going on behind the scenes that I'm not saying that
- 2:00:14Speaker 5: I'm not saying that Belchi gave up, but it was like,
- 2:00:17Speaker 5: I'm not gonna get go through that again.
- 2:00:19Speaker 9: You know, everybody was in their own corners and the
- 2:00:22Speaker 9: lines of demarcation have been set, and I just I
- 2:00:24Speaker 9: don't like the you know, just that he watched it
- 2:00:27Speaker 9: die and and didn't try it. I mean, I like,
- 2:00:29Speaker 9: I keep thinking of Joe Milton. Not that Joe Milton
- 2:00:30Speaker 9: would have been the answer this year, but like they
- 2:00:32Speaker 9: had nothing when Brady left, Like even somebody like Joe Milton.
- 2:00:35Speaker 9: You can imagine the whole fan base being like Joe Milton.
- 2:00:38Speaker 6: That was Jared Stidham, right, he never.
- 2:00:40Speaker 5: Let them like right, one more quick quick call then
- 2:00:44Speaker 5: we have to wrap it up. Matt's in Mississippi. What's up, Matt?
- 2:00:48Speaker 3: Hey, guys, love to hear you, guys. I'm excited for
- 2:00:51Speaker 3: the draft. Just a quick draft question. I know everybody's
- 2:00:55Speaker 3: focused on wide receiver and lineman and that's very important.
- 2:00:59Speaker 3: Is there a physician on that thing that people might
- 2:01:01Speaker 3: feel comfortable about, that you might feel a little weary
- 2:01:04Speaker 3: about that we should a dread later in the draft.
- 2:01:08Speaker 5: Yeah, everyone except quarterback, safety or maybe maybe not corner back.
- 2:01:13Speaker 5: Now because I feel with Davis Gonzo that's become less
- 2:01:17Speaker 5: of an area of need. But other than that, like
- 2:01:23Speaker 5: best players.
- 2:01:24Speaker 9: Yeah, I just I wonder how the safety position plays
- 2:01:26Speaker 9: out with Epps coming in more of a free safety type,
- 2:01:29Speaker 9: do they want to get back to more traditional roles.
- 2:01:32Speaker 9: I just I'm not sure what the safety position looks like.
- 2:01:34Speaker 9: You have a lot of guys, mostly strong safety box
- 2:01:37Speaker 9: type guys. Ideally I could see Epps kind of playing
- 2:01:40Speaker 9: and maybe they move on from Peppers or Dugger, or
- 2:01:42Speaker 9: maybe they all three of them play.
- 2:01:43Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 2:01:44Speaker 4: Yeah, that's definitely as Matt. If you want to go
- 2:01:47Speaker 4: like real sneaky, I'd say safety is probably on the
- 2:01:51Speaker 4: top of the list. And you know, obviously less sneaky
- 2:01:54Speaker 4: but still important. I mean, center is I think a
- 2:01:58Speaker 4: really big one at some point. I would assume that
- 2:02:01Speaker 4: they're going to pick a center at least a draft
- 2:02:05Speaker 4: one at the end of day three at the very least.
- 2:02:07Speaker 4: So we'll see what happens there. But I think Garrett
- 2:02:10Speaker 4: Bradberry is a one year thing. Like I don't look
- 2:02:12Speaker 4: at Garrett Bradberry as a long term answer there.
- 2:02:15Speaker 5: All right, that's going to be it for this edition
- 2:02:17Speaker 5: of Patriots. Unfiltered. We got Catch twenty two coming up
