- 0:13Speaker 1: Jen Koukl, a P40 Ministries podcast. Howdy there, friends and
- 0:18Speaker 1: faithful listeners, and hi, my name is Jen. I am
- 0:21Speaker 1: the host of this podcast, and I've got my coffee
- 0:24Speaker 1: nice and ready here to discuss Job chapter one. And
- 0:28Speaker 1: today we're going to be talking about a few things. Firstly,
- 0:32Speaker 1: who are these sons of God that are mentioned in
- 0:36Speaker 1: God's throne room? Why is Satan there? And also, why
- 0:40Speaker 1: does God seem to be betting against Satan? We're going
- 0:44Speaker 1: to get into this passage. So make sure to grab
- 0:47Speaker 1: your Bible and turn to Job chapter one and also
- 0:51Speaker 1: grab a delicious hot beverage if you don't have one yet.
- 0:55Speaker 1: And while we're doing that, I'm going to move to
- 0:57Speaker 1: an ad break and I'll be back right after that. Okay,
- 1:01Speaker 1: let's read Job 1, 6 through 12. As usual, I'll
- 1:05Speaker 1: be reading from the World English Bible or the WEB
- 1:08Speaker 1: this morning. So if you don't have your Bible yet,
- 1:11Speaker 1: feel free to grab the version that you prefer. You
- 1:13Speaker 1: can pause the podcast real quick to go grab that.
- 1:16Speaker 1: But if you can't read your Bible right now with me,
- 1:19Speaker 1: I always recommend when you have a chance going back
- 1:21Speaker 1: and trying to read it for yourself to really see
- 1:25Speaker 1: what scripture has to say about this passage. But for now,
- 1:29Speaker 1: let's go ahead and read Job chapter one, six through
- 1:31Speaker 1: 12 together, and let's give reverence to God's word. Now
- 1:36Speaker 1: on the day when God's sons came to present themselves
- 1:38Speaker 1: before Yahweh, Satan also came among them. Yahweh said to Satan,
- 1:43Speaker 1: where have you come from? Then Satan answered Yahweh and said,
- 1:46Speaker 1: from going back and forth in the earth and from
- 1:48Speaker 1: walking up and down in it. Yahweh said to Satan,
- 1:51Speaker 1: have you considered my servant Job? For there is none
- 1:54Speaker 1: like him in the earth, a blameless and an upright man,
- 1:57Speaker 1: one who fears God and turns away from evil. Then
- 2:00Speaker 1: Satan answered Yahweh and said, Does Job fear God for nothing?
- 2:04Speaker 1: Haven't you made a hedge around him and around his
- 2:07Speaker 1: house and around all that he has on every side?
- 2:10Speaker 1: You have blessed the work of his hands and his
- 2:12Speaker 1: substance is increased in the land. But stretch out your
- 2:15Speaker 1: hand now and touch all that he has and he
- 2:18Speaker 1: will renounce you to your face. Yahweh said to Satan, Behold,
- 2:22Speaker 1: all that he has is in your power. Only on
- 2:24Speaker 1: himself don't stretch out your hand. So Satan went out
- 2:27Speaker 1: from the presence of Yahweh. So on Monday, we opened
- 2:32Speaker 1: up Job by talking about who Job was, how he
- 2:36Speaker 1: lived in this land called Uz, which was very likely
- 2:39Speaker 1: the land of Edom, how he could have possibly been
- 2:42Speaker 1: actually an Edomite king, just based upon some of the
- 2:45Speaker 1: things that Job himself says. And also because of 1
- 2:49Speaker 1: Chronicles 1, that mentions an Edomite king named Jobab, who
- 2:54Speaker 1: could have been the same person as Job right here.
- 2:57Speaker 1: And we also talked about how Job was a very
- 2:59Speaker 1: righteous man. He was so righteous that he was even
- 3:03Speaker 1: concerned about the well-being of his children. So every time
- 3:06Speaker 1: his children had a party and a birthday, Job would
- 3:09Speaker 1: call each of them to the house and offer a
- 3:12Speaker 1: sacrifice for them and essentially pray for them on their
- 3:16Speaker 1: behalf to God. Because Job would say, it may be
- 3:20Speaker 1: that my sons have sinned and renounced God in their hearts.
- 3:23Speaker 1: And so Job did this all He was a very
- 3:26Speaker 1: righteous man. So now we move past who Job was
- 3:31Speaker 1: in the story and we move into what happened to
- 3:33Speaker 1: him or rather why God allowed this terrible set of
- 3:38Speaker 1: circumstances to actually happen to Job. So let's start in
- 3:41Speaker 1: our passage for today. Verse number six, it says, now
- 3:45Speaker 1: on the day when God's sons came to present themselves
- 3:48Speaker 1: before Yahweh, Satan also came among them. Yahweh said to Satan,
- 3:53Speaker 1: where have you come from? So this brings a few
- 3:56Speaker 1: questions to the forefront. Firstly, who are the sons of God? Well,
- 4:00Speaker 1: we actually talked about that yesterday, interestingly enough, in 1
- 4:02Speaker 1: Peter 3, because Peter himself mentioned these spirits that were
- 4:09Speaker 1: imprisoned all the way back from the days of Noah
- 4:13Speaker 1: and how those spirits in prison could have been the
- 4:15Speaker 1: sons of God that are mentioned in, I think it's
- 4:18Speaker 1: Genesis 5 or 6. So it's pretty cool how scripture
- 4:21Speaker 1: always ties together and how we kind of talked about
- 4:23Speaker 1: this subject yesterday. But sons of God, generally speaking, are
- 4:28Speaker 1: probably the angels. And Satan, also known as Lucifer, at
- 4:34Speaker 1: one point in time also would have been considered a
- 4:36Speaker 1: son of God because he was one of the angels. Now,
- 4:40Speaker 1: this doesn't mean that any of the angels or Satan,
- 4:44Speaker 1: for that matter, is on the same level as Jesus,
- 4:47Speaker 1: because first and foremost, Hebrews talks about how all of
- 4:50Speaker 1: the angels were That's like the first four chapters of
- 4:55Speaker 1: Hebrews is making it very clear that Jesus is above
- 4:58Speaker 1: the angels and he is supreme above them all. In fact,
- 5:01Speaker 1: that is also something we talked about in first Peter
- 5:04Speaker 1: yesterday about how Jesus stands above all of the angels
- 5:08Speaker 1: and they are under his authority, essentially. So the angels
- 5:12Speaker 1: and Jesus are not on the same level, and neither
- 5:15Speaker 1: is Satan and Jesus. There are some religions that believe
- 5:19Speaker 1: that Jesus and Satan are brothers, but that can't possibly
- 5:23Speaker 1: be true because that would mean that Satan is the
- 5:26Speaker 1: same as Jesus. And Jesus is God, which means that
- 5:29Speaker 1: if Satan was the brother of Jesus, he would be God.
- 5:33Speaker 1: And he is not God. We do not worship him
- 5:36Speaker 1: as God. He will never be God. It says specifically
- 5:39Speaker 1: in scripture that Satan desired to be like God, but
- 5:43Speaker 1: he never was. That's what made him fall, actually, was
- 5:46Speaker 1: his incredible pride, because he was the most beautiful of
- 5:49Speaker 1: all of the angels. His pride caused him to sin,
- 5:53Speaker 1: and so he fell. He was once named Lucifer, and
- 5:56Speaker 1: now he is Satan, which also means adversary. Now, some
- 6:00Speaker 1: people do question if there is one particular devil above
- 6:06Speaker 1: all of the other demons. Some people say that the
- 6:09Speaker 1: term Satan just refers to all the demons in general,
- 6:13Speaker 1: and there's not one specific like head honcho. There is
- 6:16Speaker 1: no Lucifer. But the reason I think Lucifer does exist
- 6:20Speaker 1: is because of Isaiah 14, 12 through 17, where which
- 6:23Speaker 1: says in the NIV version, how you are fallen from heaven,
- 6:27Speaker 1: O Lucifer, son of the morning, how you are cut
- 6:30Speaker 1: down to the ground, you who weakened the nations. For
- 6:33Speaker 1: you have said in your heart, I will ascend into heaven.
- 6:36Speaker 1: I will exalt my throne above the stars of God.
- 6:40Speaker 1: I will also sit on the mount of congregation on
- 6:42Speaker 1: the farthest sides of the north, and I will ascend
- 6:45Speaker 1: above the heights of the clouds, and I will be
- 6:48Speaker 1: like the most high. Yet you shall be brought down
- 6:51Speaker 1: to shoal. And some people say that that passage is
- 6:53Speaker 1: not talking about the devil, but it's talking about one
- 6:56Speaker 1: of the kings that God was going to essentially banish
- 6:58Speaker 1: for hurting Israel. And I could see the argument for that,
- 7:19Speaker 1: except for the fact that that king was not ever
- 7:22Speaker 1: residing in heaven. And God is making it pretty clear
- 7:25Speaker 1: that whoever this Lucifer character was, was actually residing in heaven.
- 7:30Speaker 1: And Jesus confirms this in Luke 10, 18 from the
- 7:34Speaker 1: WEB version, where he says to his disciples, I saw
- 7:38Speaker 1: Satan having fallen like lightning from heaven. So I do
- 7:43Speaker 1: think based upon scripture that there is a fallen angel
- 7:47Speaker 1: who is once named Lucifer, who became kind of the
- 7:51Speaker 1: head honcho of all of the demons. And perhaps together
- 7:56Speaker 1: they are known as Satan. But I do think there's
- 7:58Speaker 1: one individual ahead of all of those fallen angels that
- 8:02Speaker 1: hates God, that wants everything that God has, and that
- 8:06Speaker 1: is causing such destruction on the earth as it currently stands.
- 8:11Speaker 1: But he will not succeed forever. So that's my argument
- 8:15Speaker 1: for whether or not Satan exists. But going back to,
- 8:19Speaker 1: is Satan the same as Jesus? No, absolutely not. He
- 8:22Speaker 1: is not a God. It is made very clear in
- 8:26Speaker 1: Isaiah 14 that he never was a God because he
- 8:30Speaker 1: wanted to become like God, which shows that he was
- 8:34Speaker 1: never God. But scripture says on many, many occasions that
- 8:38Speaker 1: that Jesus is God. So Jesus and Satan cannot be
- 8:43Speaker 1: related to each other. That is impossible because that would
- 8:46Speaker 1: make Satan the same as Jesus. And Satan is certainly
- 8:51Speaker 1: not God. So he is just one of the fallen angels.
- 8:55Speaker 1: He is the adversary. So the adversary came among the
- 9:00Speaker 1: sons of God. So that brings us to the question,
- 9:04Speaker 1: why would God allow Satan into heaven? was Satan some
- 9:09Speaker 1: sort of spy that went out into all the earth
- 9:14Speaker 1: and told God all the evil things that people were
- 9:17Speaker 1: doing and accused these people to God's face? I don't
- 9:22Speaker 1: think that. Obviously, God knows everything. He doesn't need Satan
- 9:25Speaker 1: to tell him whether or not somebody is naughty or nice.
- 9:28Speaker 1: It actually says in scripture that God, his eyes roam
- 9:31Speaker 1: the earth to search for the righteous person. So I
- 9:34Speaker 1: do not think that Satan was coming forward right here
- 9:38Speaker 1: as part of the counsel of God. It sounds more
- 9:42Speaker 1: like God was bringing his counsel of angels together and
- 9:46Speaker 1: that this was an open meeting. Kind of like how,
- 9:50Speaker 1: you know, you and I could go to a town
- 9:52Speaker 1: meeting in our towns if we wanted to. Not that
- 9:55Speaker 1: anybody wants to do that because they're boring and terrible,
- 9:58Speaker 1: but you could go Doesn't mean that you have any
- 10:01Speaker 1: power in those meetings, but you can certainly attend. That's
- 10:04Speaker 1: kind of what it seems like is happening here. Here's
- 10:06Speaker 1: what it says in verse six. Now, on the day
- 10:08Speaker 1: when God's sons came to present themselves before Yahweh, Satan
- 10:12Speaker 1: also came among them. And Yahweh said to Satan, where
- 10:15Speaker 1: have you come from? And Satan answers God. In verse 7,
- 10:21Speaker 1: from going back and forth in the earth and from
- 10:23Speaker 1: walking up and down in it. That's fascinating because that
- 10:28Speaker 1: is specifically what scripture warns us against about Satan, that
- 10:32Speaker 1: he walks around. If you go to 1 Peter 5, 8,
- 10:36Speaker 1: here's what it says. Be sober and self-controlled and be watchful.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion
- 10:46Speaker 1: seeking whom he may devour. So Satan goes around the earth,
- 10:52Speaker 1: walks around, and searches for somebody that he can devour.
- 10:58Speaker 1: That is his sole goal in life, is to devour
- 11:02Speaker 1: the people that God loves. So Satan came to this
- 11:06Speaker 1: open council meeting in God's throne room specifically to try
- 11:11Speaker 1: to devour somebody. And you don't think God knew exactly
- 11:15Speaker 1: who Satan had in mind? He absolutely knew because here's
- 11:19Speaker 1: what God says immediately to Satan. Have you considered my
- 11:24Speaker 1: servant Job? For there is no one like him in
- 11:27Speaker 1: the earth, a blameless and an upright man, one who
- 11:30Speaker 1: fears God and turns away from evil. So God cuts
- 11:34Speaker 1: right to the chase. He says, oh, Satan, you've seen Job, right?
- 11:40Speaker 1: And I am sure that is the one reason why
- 11:43Speaker 1: Satan was in that council meeting to begin with. was
- 11:46Speaker 1: because he was going to come and try to devour Job. Now,
- 11:52Speaker 1: many of you listening now might be thinking, why would
- 11:55Speaker 1: God even allow this? Like, why would God not just
- 11:57Speaker 1: kick Satan out immediately? Why would he allow Satan to
- 12:01Speaker 1: come into his throne room? Well, the first reason I
- 12:04Speaker 1: could guess is that this might be before Satan fell
- 12:08Speaker 1: like lightning. And even though Satan had sinned and was
- 12:11Speaker 1: prideful and was not part of God's counsel before, He
- 12:15Speaker 1: still may have been allowed in God's throne room because
- 12:19Speaker 1: his time to fall had not yet come. That's the
- 12:22Speaker 1: first guess. And that's all it is. I'm not saying
- 12:25Speaker 1: it's biblical fact. It's just a guess. But I think
- 12:29Speaker 1: there's a much more obvious reason as to why Satan
- 12:32Speaker 1: was allowed in God's throne room right here. Here's what
- 12:35Speaker 1: Satan says after God mentions Job to Satan. He gets
- 12:41Speaker 1: right to the chase in verse nine. Does Job fear
- 12:44Speaker 1: God for nothing? Haven't you made a hedge around him
- 12:47Speaker 1: and around his house and around all that he has
- 12:50Speaker 1: on every side? You have blessed the work of his
- 12:53Speaker 1: hands and his substance is increased in the land. But
- 12:57Speaker 1: stretch out your hand now and touch all that he
- 12:59Speaker 1: has and he will renounce you to your face. Satan
- 13:03Speaker 1: was accusing two people right here. He was accusing Job
- 13:07Speaker 1: and he was accusing God. He was accusing Job of
- 13:12Speaker 1: not having a genuine faith in God. that the only
- 13:15Speaker 1: reason Job actually worshiped God at all was because God
- 13:20Speaker 1: blessed him. And he was accusing God of being like
- 13:25Speaker 1: all the other idols in the land. That the only
- 13:28Speaker 1: reason he blesses people is because they are faithful and
- 13:33Speaker 1: that people would never ever want to worship God if
- 13:36Speaker 1: he didn't bless them abundantly. Essentially what Satan is accusing
- 13:40Speaker 1: God of right here is the prosperity gospel. which proves
- 13:46Speaker 1: without a shadow of a doubt that the prosperity gospel
- 13:50Speaker 1: is a doctrine of demons. God is worthy of being
- 13:54Speaker 1: worshiped because he gives us nice stuff. And if we
- 13:58Speaker 1: just worship him, he will give us things. If we
- 14:01Speaker 1: just have more faith, he will bless us with more health.
- 14:05Speaker 1: If we just, you know, give a little bit more
- 14:07Speaker 1: of our time, our money, if we just plant a seed,
- 14:11Speaker 1: then God will give us even more stuff. Anything that
- 14:16Speaker 1: we want. We just rub the little lamp and poof,
- 14:19Speaker 1: out comes the genie. And we ask the genie for
- 14:22Speaker 1: what we want and he will give us everything that
- 14:25Speaker 1: we desire. As long as we have faith and worship
- 14:27Speaker 1: him in the right way. That is the prosperity gospel.
- 14:33Speaker 1: And it's the same as every other idolatrous religion on
- 14:38Speaker 1: the planet. Worship this thing and it will guarantee you success.
- 14:42Speaker 1: Sacrifice your child to Moloch and you will get more
- 14:45Speaker 1: children and a better harvest and a better marriage. It's
- 14:48Speaker 1: the tale as old as time. Idolatry equals some level
- 14:54Speaker 1: of success for yourself. But God is not like the
- 14:58Speaker 1: other idols. And this is something you're going to consistently
- 15:01Speaker 1: see throughout the entire Old Testament, that God always shows
- 15:05Speaker 1: himself different from the idols in this world. He shows
- 15:10Speaker 1: he is supreme and he is better than the idols
- 15:11Speaker 1: in this world. than all of these other gods. He
- 15:14Speaker 1: shows himself to be the one and true and only God.
- 15:20Speaker 1: So Satan presents this doctrine of demons to God. And
- 15:24Speaker 1: he says, hey, Job is only worshiping you because you
- 15:27Speaker 1: give him good stuff. And God says, okay, Satan, if
- 15:32Speaker 1: that's what you think, then take away everything Job has,
- 15:36Speaker 1: but don't lay a hand on the man himself. And
- 15:40Speaker 1: I think this is one of the most important reasons
- 15:43Speaker 1: why this book is included in the Bible. Because a
- 15:47Speaker 1: lot of people wonder, why the heck do we have
- 15:50Speaker 1: the book of Job in the Old Testament? It just
- 15:53Speaker 1: almost paints God in a negative light that he would
- 15:56Speaker 1: allow so much suffering on one of his beloved servants.
- 16:01Speaker 1: It's because the prosperity gospel has always existed. It is
- 16:06Speaker 1: from Satan himself. And God has nothing to do with
- 16:12Speaker 1: the prosperity gospel. And neither does Christianity, by the way,
- 16:16Speaker 1: true Christianity. Again, we've been going through 1 Peter. And
- 16:20Speaker 1: the first three chapters of 1 Peter are some of
- 16:22Speaker 1: the most disliked chapters in the entire Bible. Because Peter
- 16:27Speaker 1: talks about humbling yourself while showing love to other people
- 16:32Speaker 1: and possibly even putting yourself into uncomfortable and difficult and
- 16:38Speaker 1: sometimes even unbearable situations to potentially lead somebody else to Christ,
- 16:46Speaker 1: like your husband or your wife or even your slave master.
- 16:52Speaker 1: This is the kind of stuff that scripture mentions, that
- 16:54Speaker 1: life is not about the here and now. It's not
- 16:59Speaker 1: about this earth. We are not guaranteed prosperity In this life,
- 17:05Speaker 1: we are not guaranteed health or wellness. Even if we
- 17:08Speaker 1: become a Christian, we are not guaranteed these things. In fact,
- 17:11Speaker 1: Jesus tells us the opposite. He said, when you follow me,
- 17:15Speaker 1: you will be persecuted. That is the kind of stuff
- 17:17Speaker 1: that Jesus tells us. So worshiping Yahweh has nothing to
- 17:21Speaker 1: do with gaining success here on this earth. Now, sometimes
- 17:26Speaker 1: God is very merciful and he gives us success because
- 17:29Speaker 1: it says in scripture that God loves to give gifts
- 17:32Speaker 1: to his children and that every good and perfect gift
- 17:36Speaker 1: is from God himself. So everything that we have in
- 17:39Speaker 1: our lives that is good is from God the Father.
- 17:41Speaker 1: It's a gift from him, but we are not guaranteed
- 17:44Speaker 1: those gifts at any point in time in scripture because
- 17:48Speaker 1: it's not about this life. There is a life to come.
- 17:53Speaker 1: That is so much better. And that is where we
- 17:55Speaker 1: are guaranteed prosperity. That is where Jesus tells us to
- 17:59Speaker 1: lay up our treasures. He says, do not lay your
- 18:02Speaker 1: treasures up on this earth because they're going to be corrupted.
- 18:05Speaker 1: They're going to get rusty. They're going to get eaten
- 18:08Speaker 1: by moths. They're going to be stolen by greedy individuals. Instead,
- 18:13Speaker 1: lay up your treasures in heaven where you will have
- 18:16Speaker 1: them for an eternity. That's where the true prosperity comes in.
- 18:21Speaker 1: So it's important to look forward to what's to come
- 18:25Speaker 1: instead of here on earth, because if we focus only
- 18:27Speaker 1: on the things we can get here, we're going to
- 18:31Speaker 1: be miserable individuals. Have you ever noticed that people who
- 18:38Speaker 1: are very self-centered, who are very narcissistic, who really only
- 18:42Speaker 1: focus on the things that they want and what other
- 18:46Speaker 1: people can give them. They are truly some of the
- 18:48Speaker 1: most miserable people on the planet. They are never happy.
- 18:52Speaker 1: It's never enough for them. Even if they get all
- 18:55Speaker 1: of the good things in life, it's never enough. So
- 18:58Speaker 1: as Christians, we shouldn't be focusing on the earth. Now,
- 19:02Speaker 1: sometimes that's hard to do because, you know, we have
- 19:04Speaker 1: families and we go through hurts and we go through
- 19:06Speaker 1: problems and You know, scripture helps us through those times
- 19:10Speaker 1: because everybody experiences them. Everybody experiences trouble. It says in
- 19:16Speaker 1: scripture that God sends his rain on the just and
- 19:19Speaker 1: the unjust alike. So there are certain things that just
- 19:23Speaker 1: aren't going to be fun that we all have to
- 19:24Speaker 1: deal with. But you might be like, Jen, it seems
- 19:27Speaker 1: just a lot easier to not live as a Christian
- 19:31Speaker 1: and kind of focus on myself a little bit more.
- 19:34Speaker 1: And to that, I say, Yeah, it might seem that
- 19:36Speaker 1: way right now. It might seem a little bit easier
- 19:40Speaker 1: in the short term, but it is not going to
- 19:43Speaker 1: be easy or nice in the long term. So we
- 19:46Speaker 1: have to stop expecting God to bless us with all
- 19:51Speaker 1: of the things that we want. He is not a
- 19:53Speaker 1: genie here to satisfy our every whim. He is the
- 19:58Speaker 1: creator of the universe. And because of that fact alone,
- 20:02Speaker 1: he is deserving of praise. He is the only real
- 20:05Speaker 1: and true God. Now to conclude all this, I found
- 20:08Speaker 1: a really fascinating quote by Barry G. Webb in his
- 20:14Speaker 1: commentary entitled Job. So here's what he says about Job
- 20:18Speaker 1: chapter one, quote,' The way Satan is challenged by Yahweh'
- 20:22Speaker 1: and the tone and content of what he says' all
- 20:25Speaker 1: show that his intentions are evil.' He is apparently one
- 20:29Speaker 1: of the sons of God, but has no legitimate role
- 20:32Speaker 1: in the divine council. Like the serpent in Eden, he
- 20:35Speaker 1: is an intruder with ill intent. It is Job, not he,
- 20:39Speaker 1: who is Yahweh's true servant, and Satan's purpose is to
- 20:42Speaker 1: destroy him by turning Yahweh against him for no good reason.
- 20:46Speaker 1: Yahweh rightly sees this as an attack on himself as
- 20:49Speaker 1: well as Job, and a challenge that cannot go unanswered
- 20:52Speaker 1: since it strikes at the very foundation of all true religion.
- 20:56Speaker 1: If Yahweh is no better than a tyrant who bestows
- 20:59Speaker 1: favor on his followers to feed his own vanity and
- 21:03Speaker 1: shore up his shaky hold on power, then he is
- 21:06Speaker 1: not worthy of being worshiped. If Job, the best of
- 21:09Speaker 1: his servants, serves him only for the benefits he receives,
- 21:13Speaker 1: then there is no such thing as genuine piety. In
- 21:16Speaker 1: the conflict between God and Satan, good and evil, truth
- 21:20Speaker 1: and lies that follows, Job becomes the ground on which
- 21:23Speaker 1: the battle rages and on which Satan is finally vanquished.
- 21:28Speaker 1: So that's another thing I think some people forget when
- 21:31Speaker 1: reading through the book of Job is that God was
- 21:33Speaker 1: actually using Job for one of the most important things
- 21:38Speaker 1: that could ever happen. By using him to vanquish the
- 21:42Speaker 1: doctrine of demons, because we have the book of Job,
- 21:46Speaker 1: we know that the prosperity gospel An idolatry of any
- 21:50Speaker 1: kind is completely false and not of God, but of
- 21:54Speaker 1: a different kind of spirit. You know, this book really
- 22:00Speaker 1: shows how honorable Job was because if I had been
- 22:06Speaker 1: the person, you know, that God wanted to use to
- 22:10Speaker 1: vanquish Satan's doctrines, I think I would have failed the
- 22:15Speaker 1: test pretty miserably. And I know that because of the
- 22:18Speaker 1: trials I've gone through in the past where I can
- 22:21Speaker 1: promise you, I did not act like Job. I lashed
- 22:25Speaker 1: out at God because I was so angry. How dare
- 22:29Speaker 1: God force me to go through something I don't want
- 22:32Speaker 1: to go through when I have done so many nice
- 22:34Speaker 1: things for God in the past. In my heart, I
- 22:37Speaker 1: was believing that doctrine of demons, that if I do
- 22:41Speaker 1: good things for God, he better do good things for me.
- 22:44Speaker 1: But Job, on the other hand, did not do that.
- 22:47Speaker 1: So that's another thing we can look at as we
- 22:50Speaker 1: study more of Job. When we have to go through
- 22:52Speaker 1: some sort of struggle or suffering with our health or
- 22:56Speaker 1: our family or whatever it might be, how can we
- 22:59Speaker 1: be more like Job who did not curse God, even
- 23:04Speaker 1: though everything was taken away from him? We will talk
- 23:07Speaker 1: about that in the coming chapters. But on Monday, we
- 23:10Speaker 1: will finish up Job chapter one, and talk about some
- 23:13Speaker 1: of the terrible things that ends up happening to Job
- 23:16Speaker 1: and how he responds to all of it. So faithful listeners,

- 23:58Speaker 1: of course, will get into that subject tomorrow on the
- 24:01Speaker 1: New Testament side of stuff. So faithful listeners, have a
