- 0:00But lately when I get drunk, like out and about and there's a
- 0:03lot of people around, like I get really anxious.
- 0:06So then I just have to like look down on the ground and like sing
- 0:09and I'm just like Doo Doo, Doo Doo so that I'm not as anxious,
- 0:13you know? That started happening to me
- 0:15after COVID. I did the same thing when I pee
- 0:18in public. Yo-yo, yo-yo, yo.
- 0:49Welcome back to another episode of Here's to You the Podcast,
- 0:53your favorite DIY podcast where we bring cool people to share
- 0:57their cool stories. I am your host producer
- 1:01extraordinaire Dusty V sitting to my left as always, we've got
- 1:05the famous blue haired fanister McAllister.
- 1:08What's up guys? And today it's another hot
- 1:13summer day while we're chilling, and I was going to say grilling,
- 1:17but we're not doing that quite yet.
- 1:20Yeah, yeah, but we do have a fan in here.
- 1:22Shout out to Dusty for that. We did buy a new fan today.
- 1:25Yeah, 'cause it's always pretty hot.
- 1:27Yeah, it's a little hot. We were thinking about opening
- 1:30the door, but we decided not to. Fanny, do you know what else
- 1:35keeps it cool? Blue hair.
- 1:40Yeah, not, not quite that. OK, not quite what I was
- 1:43thinking. Shots.
- 1:47That does keep it cool. I'll give you one more guess.
- 1:52Pink shirts. Not where I.
- 1:55Was going to go pink shirts are hot.
- 1:57What do you mean I? Don't know.
- 1:58I don't know. Well, I was going to say, what
- 2:01else keeps it cool is a nice cup of ice cold brew.
- 2:08Yeah, but we don't have any. In the mornings.
- 2:11Oh, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 2:12Yeah, yeah. That's how I kind of like my
- 2:14coffee. How do you like your coffee?
- 2:16I like it hot. You like it hot?
- 2:18Yeah, I like it hot even when it's like 99° outside.
- 2:21Oh wow. Yeah, you're insane.
- 2:23And you drink coffee like throughout the day.
- 2:25No I well right now like it gives me a lot of anxiety lately
- 2:30so I've had to like cut back a bit but I still like to feel the
- 2:34anxiety so I go and drink the coffee anyways.
- 2:37Interesting. Yeah.
- 2:39And then I switched to tea, like around like 1-2 PM, the supposed
- 2:44tea that says, like, it's good for stress, you know?
- 2:47Yeah, but I like a hot coffee. Like a chamomile tea.
- 2:50Yeah, yeah. But I also, I, I like a hot
- 2:53coffee even when I'm out somewhere because I like when
- 2:55they do the designs. I feel like when it's cold
- 2:57coffee, they won't make a cool design.
- 2:59And I want to feel cool and I want it in a nice little mug.
- 3:04But I'm also like a social coffee person because that's how
- 3:07I grew up with coffee. Like I like to just like sit and
- 3:11enjoy it and like just be with people like that.
- 3:14I see. Yeah.
- 3:16Well, and if Cole doesn't do that?
- 3:17Speaking of coffee, yeah, we've got a few guests sitting here
- 3:22with us today. Yeah, well, let's go ahead and
- 3:25give them an introduction. Yes, we have some really amazing
- 3:29guests here today. We have Andrew, Nick and Caleb
- 3:32who have been friends for a while and maybe probably too
- 3:37long, but they just still decided to open a business.
- 3:40So not long enough to hate each other, but we're.
- 3:43Not friends anymore. No, you're not friends anymore.
- 3:45Especially because Nick doesn't want to do shots with you guys.
- 3:48No, yeah, yeah. Which is hella fake of him.
- 3:51Restrictly contractual friends. That makes sense.
- 3:54Yeah. Yeah.
- 3:55That's kind of how Dusty and I are.
- 3:56He has no choice but to be my friend forever now this bitch,
- 4:02it's. The best way to do it?
- 4:03You gotta trap people in your life.
- 4:05Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's, that's what I've done.
- 4:08Yeah. But you guys are all business
- 4:11partners and the owners of good company, the owners of Pennet
- 4:16Coffee and Fox and Ash, Like fuck, why?
- 4:21And also Congrats. I don't know, it all happened by
- 4:27accident I guess. It all happened by accident.
- 4:30Yeah, it wasn't really planned, just kind of fell into it all.
- 4:33Really. Yeah, Like how so?
- 4:36You were like, hey, let's open something like you were at a bar
- 4:39and just say not taking shots maybe.
- 4:43You'll never know. No, we understand that you only
- 4:46take shots in your car. I hope no police are listening.
- 4:50Yeah, only cool police. That's right.
- 4:55No, actually, fire department people, because nobody ever
- 4:57makes a song about how much we hate the fire department.
- 5:00So only fire department people listen to our podcast?
- 5:03Yep. Yeah, shout out, firemen.
- 5:06Shout out, Joe. Shout out, Joe, Shout out, Joe.
- 5:11No, But yeah. How'd you guys start all of
- 5:13these? Or like you told us the story.
- 5:15But I definitely want to tell us and our listeners how you guys
- 5:18started all this. Well, Nick and I used to work in
- 5:23coffee together. I don't know, 2010, 2011.
- 5:28How old were you guys at that time?
- 5:29Like that high school? High school like.
- 5:31I was like a junior, junior, senior.
- 5:35Something like that. Yeah, I think it was my senior
- 5:37year. Yeah.
- 5:39I'm a year, year younger, yeah. Were you guys like class clowns?
- 5:42Quiet kids? What were you guys back then?
- 5:44I. Bet you could take a guess.
- 5:48They looked. Like.
- 5:49We're on the swim team. You are on the same team.
- 5:52I could see that that's a. Whole lot on the same team, I
- 5:56love that. You guys look really good in
- 6:00some caps. I was a close second to that
- 6:02though. I was on the cross country team.
- 6:04Oh. OK.
- 6:04OK, OK, so the. Sports that no one cares about.
- 6:08That's where the love of running started.
- 6:10Yeah, I guess so. Yeah, OK.
- 6:12Yeah. So you guys and.
- 6:14Then I hated it for 10 years and didn't do it and started it back
- 6:17up. The wife made you start back up
- 6:20or? No.
- 6:23Being a dad. Yeah, Being a dad.
- 6:25You catch a glimpse of yourself in the mirror every once in a
- 6:27while. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:28You become a dad and you're like, whoa.
- 6:30The beer belly. Yeah, yeah.
- 6:32Dad bod's real. The dad bod's real, I mean, but
- 6:34they're, hey, they're like, they're in style.
- 6:36I gained like 30. 5. Pounds.
- 6:39When my wife got pregnant and then the whole first year after.
- 6:43Yeah, my daughter's life. I I mean you were help you were
- 6:46there with her and spirit and physical.
- 6:49All the weight I kept gaining weight.
- 6:50I was like this is not good. But that's why you you ran the
- 6:53half mile. Yep, that's why you ran the half
- 6:56mile. Had to give these guys a break
- 6:58so. Yeah, yeah.
- 6:59Start to keep up. Yeah, yeah, yeah, You had a
- 7:02Someone has to be the water boy. I'm.
- 7:04A hybrid athlete join join the wives on the on the walk so.
- 7:09Yeah. So you guys are in high school
- 7:13in a coffee shop working together and then you decide,
- 7:18let's open a coffee shop in high school.
- 7:20No, no, I don't know. We, there was four of us that
- 7:26were like kind of working at this coffee shop.
- 7:29And that's kind of where we fell in love with it.
- 7:32And then I went off to Barber school after like my first
- 7:36semester of college. And that's where I'm at.
- 7:39Andrew and then after Barber school few years later, opened
- 7:45up a shop. Yeah.
- 7:46And. That's Fox and Ash.
- 7:49That's Fox and Ash. OK.
- 7:51And Nick opened up the roastery, which is Pennant, and Andrew and
- 7:56our good friend James joined, and we operated that Barber shop
- 8:00up in McPherson for a few years. And then, yeah, it kind of
- 8:04landed back in Wichita around 2018 and we opened up the
- 8:08Wichita shop and then decided, hey, let's open up a cocktail
- 8:13bar and shaking your head, like open up a coffee shop.
- 8:19And that's when we kind of took all of our businesses and put
- 8:22them together. But yeah, it's been extremely
- 8:27difficult, but it's really fun and it's it's all the things.
- 8:32All the things, Yeah, it's all the things.
- 8:34I think any any business owner would tell you that that.
- 8:37Yeah. Yeah, that's.
- 8:39The craziest drug you'll take? The highs are high and the lows
- 8:43are very low, but yeah. I mean, some of the best you
- 8:48guys, you said that everything kind of happened by accident,
- 8:52but I feel like some of the best things happened by accident.
- 8:56That's true. Yeah, absolutely.
- 8:59You know, I met Caleb through our friend James and then
- 9:04through Barber college, after Barbara college, we kind of all
- 9:08went our separate ways for a little while and then kept in
- 9:10contact. And when I moved up there, I met
- 9:13Nick through Caleb and the rest of those people up there.
- 9:16And Nick's actually the one that, like, really introduced me
- 9:21to coffee. You you didn't like coffee
- 9:25before? I liked it, but I didn't know
- 9:27what was out there. And I guess like seeing his
- 9:36passion through coffee just made me more excited for him.
- 9:40And when he opened the roastery, I think I was, like, bugging
- 9:45him, like, every time we hung out, like, hey, need help, You
- 9:48know, I just want to see your dream come true.
- 9:51Oh, I love people like that. He loves you.
- 9:55Yeah, this is my poor husband, my left brain so.
- 10:00We share a brain, yeah. The left brain is a creative
- 10:03one, or the that's the. Logistical 1.
- 10:06I don't know. I don't remember.
- 10:07I don't remember either. Might be better if we're like
- 10:10front and back you. Know.
- 10:11Yeah, yeah, with the butt. We like to think of ourselves as
- 10:19more of a Green Goblin and Spider Man.
- 10:22Yeah, A. Little abusive, but we need each
- 10:24other. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 10:26Site No Green Goblin spider man who comes to mind or what comes
- 10:33to mind in your head when you picture them too?
- 10:36For me. An exploding building.
- 10:38Well, no, because I was going to say yeah, for me, it's Tobey
- 10:42Maguire and William Dafoe. Yeah, absolutely.
- 10:45That's who comes to mind. That's the only ones I got.
- 10:47Yeah, yeah, yeah. That scene where he's in that
- 10:50room like talking to himself in the mirror, like oh man, chills
- 10:55chills every time I see that scene.
- 10:57Like William Dafoe in that movie.
- 10:59Yeah, like for like you feel his like craziness.
- 11:03Like every time I see movies like that, like when they're
- 11:06like looking at themselves in mirrors like that, it gets so
- 11:09scared that I'm like, I'm not looking at myself in the mirror
- 11:12for a minute. It's.
- 11:12Like when you've been drinking and you go to the bathroom and
- 11:14you look at yourself in the mirror.
- 11:17I go. Something crazy right now
- 11:18that's. Exactly it.
- 11:21I can jump off a building. I can do it.
- 11:24Don't do it. You're right.
- 11:28Is there anything that William Dafoe is in that you don't like?
- 11:34Because I can't think of anything off the top.
- 11:36I want to see the lighthouse. I haven't seen it yet with.
- 11:39Him I don't think I've and. Robert Patterson.
- 11:42I heard there's a really crazy scene in it which only piqued my
- 11:47interest more, but. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 11:50Got to see it. This is going to show my
- 11:52weakness in movies but I think Green Goblin is like the only
- 11:56thing I can think of. Willem Dafon.
- 11:58I'm sure there's more, but like for whatever reason that's the
- 12:00northern one. Wait, so are you guys DC or
- 12:06Marvel then? Marvel's kind of exhausting me.
- 12:11Yeah, 'cause like just the overplaying of trying to be
- 12:14funny. Just like you made end game, you
- 12:17should be done. Yeah.
- 12:19Yeah, well, the Spider Man movie with all three.
- 12:22Spider Man was dope. Yeah, After that, I've not
- 12:27really cared too much. Loki was sick, but I like old
- 12:31marble, you know, I had to. I turned around in the theaters
- 12:34on End Game and looked at some 10 year olds and was like, you
- 12:37better not ruin this for me. And yeah, it was awesome.
- 12:44Yeah. Gasped in the theater.
- 12:46It was awesome. Yeah.
- 12:47After that it's like, I don't care.
- 12:49Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's tough to be Christopher
- 12:52Nolan's Batman. Yeah.
- 12:54I mean like. I'm mad that we didn't get
- 12:56Joseph Gordon Levitt as Robin. Like we needed.
- 12:59That. Yeah.
- 13:01Yeah, I definitely miss Heath Ledger though.
- 13:05Yeah, like. RIP.
- 13:07For yeah, I have. I have like all of the Jokers
- 13:10from I think it's like the 1975 Joker all the way to Heath.
- 13:16No, I do have Jared Leto too. And it's like all the Jokers as
- 13:19a painting and it's next to my office.
- 13:22Like I just for me, it's Batman. Like I love Batman.
- 13:26Every time I see the scene when I know that his parents are
- 13:29gonna get killed, like that's I cry.
- 13:32I cry all the time. I already know what the fuck is
- 13:33gonna happen, but I still cry like it's for me, it's something
- 13:37about Batman. And then like the Joker, and
- 13:39he's just like he oh, for me, I didn't like Jared Leto.
- 13:44I don't know about you guys. If you liked Jared Leto as
- 13:46Batman, I didn't fuck with him very much like I he was very
- 13:49gangstery. As Joker.
- 13:52Yeah, yeah. I don't remember watching it to
- 13:55be honest. Yeah, I haven't seen that.
- 13:57Was he in Suicide Squad? Or Suicide Squad.
- 13:59Yeah, I. Fell asleep watching that.
- 14:01Yeah, Suicide Squad was not as good, Yeah.
- 14:04I think the bar was just set too high with him, I think.
- 14:07Yeah, Like he was set up for failure from the beginning.
- 14:09Yeah. What about walking Phoenix I
- 14:12like? Joaquin Phoenix, I don't watch.
- 14:14It I liked the first, I like the second one I heard flopped but
- 14:17it was decent. Yeah, yeah.
- 14:21So back to coffee and roasting as well.
- 14:26We did this a lot on the pod. OK this.
- 14:28Sounds like our Wednesday meetings.
- 14:29Yeah, this is a Wednesday meeting, no?
- 14:31But we let it go. This is what would happen, yeah.
- 14:34Nice, good, cuz that's, that's what we, that's what we like to
- 14:38do in our pod. Like we want this to feel like a
- 14:40conversation. We want this to feel like all of
- 14:43the shit that, you know, I shouldn't really be saying.
- 14:46We should say it all, Mike, and it should be recorded for
- 14:49everyone to listen to. For evidence.
- 14:53Yes, for the FBI, that's right. So you're super passionate about
- 14:59coffee and roasting coffee. Why?
- 15:03I don't know. I mean, so the when Caleb and I
- 15:07were working at that what? Nothing.
- 15:10When Caleb and I were working at that coffee shop, we had a
- 15:12friend that worked there as well and they kind of, they left at
- 15:17the same time we started and they moved to Seattle and they
- 15:21came back like 6 months later after having learned like all
- 15:25these crazy stuff about coffee. Like, we didn't know anything
- 15:28about, like, brewing coffees by hand or what coffee was even
- 15:32capable of. Like at that point.
- 15:33It was just this, like, dark, bitter drink that yeah, yeah,
- 15:36wakes you up and you put enough sugar in it and it's good
- 15:38enough. Yeah, I mean, because you're in
- 15:40high school too. Yeah, yeah.
- 15:41And then I remember he put on just like this little class for
- 15:44us where he brought out like a Chemex and a mocha pot and a
- 15:49French press and, you know, all these things we've never
- 15:51experienced and made us coffee. And, like, my mind was just
- 15:54blown. I was like, I have to, I have to
- 15:57know more, like I have to figure out how to do this for myself.
- 15:59Yeah. And so that's kind of just what
- 16:02started. And it was just, it's never
- 16:04ended. Yeah.
- 16:05So. That's so like in high school,
- 16:07you start to get the beans or it's still later on in life.
- 16:12As far as like roasting? Yeah, yeah.
- 16:14Yeah, it was later on in life that I started roasting like
- 16:17professionally, but. We would be like, I remember
- 16:20some popcorn. Yeah, maker coffee, but.
- 16:24What in library? What is this?
- 16:26Well, it started off. It started off we were, we were
- 16:28ordering coffee from everywhere, like all of these like roasters
- 16:32in the United States that were doing what we would consider
- 16:34super exciting things. Yeah, Yeah.
- 16:36And like my mind just immediately always goes to like,
- 16:39how can I do that? Like I want to do that.
- 16:41And so I figured out how to roast coffee at home.
- 16:45There's like a couple suppliers you could find online that would
- 16:47sell you like a pound or two of green coffee, and I would
- 16:50literally be in the kitchen. You know what a whirly pop is?
- 16:54So it's like a it's a stove top popcorn poppers, a picture like
- 16:57a silver pot with a lid and then the hand crank that like that
- 17:02has like a little stirring device in the pot.
- 17:05And so I would put the green coffee in there, turn the burner
- 17:08on and literally just like stir it around until it turned brown,
- 17:13smoked out the entire house. This coffee is like extremely
- 17:17smoky. Were you, were you living with
- 17:19your family? Yeah, usually your parents
- 17:21hated. You.
- 17:21No, they loved it. Oh, OK.
- 17:23No, I'm like, I'm so fortunate to have like, the supportive
- 17:26parents that I do. But like, yeah, freaking yeah.
- 17:29Shut up, Pam. But now I would smoke out the
- 17:33whole kitchen, and then I would share all this coffee with my
- 17:36friends. And you know, it probably tasted
- 17:39like trash, but they were all really nice about it too.
- 17:42I remember that really gross whiskey coffee you did, Yeah.
- 17:46We were trying to get real weird with coffee, and so I took some
- 17:50of the green I had and I soaked it in whiskey.
- 17:52I got just like this cheap. I think it was like Old Charter,
- 17:55like whiskey. And I put it in a freaking like,
- 17:59I don't know, like a Tupperware. And with whiskey, I think I let
- 18:02it sit for like a day and then I dried it out and then roasted
- 18:05it. And I think Caleb might have
- 18:08been the only person to try it. Raid it on a scale of 1 to 5 or
- 18:16on a scale of this is what throw up is in my mouth it to this is
- 18:21it was. Better than that, it was better
- 18:23than that non alcoholic tequila you're talking about.
- 18:26OK. Didn't make you want to throw.
- 18:27Up. I think it's hard to put that
- 18:30coffee on a scale because like on a scale of one to five, it's
- 18:33like a, it's like a red. It's like a red, yeah.
- 18:36It's like. It was also so long ago, yeah,
- 18:39like so many more cups of coffee have been drinks and stuff.
- 18:44So are you guys like black coffee drinkers or do you like
- 18:47to have your coffee Or do you like to have coffee more with
- 18:52your cream? I'm a black coffee drinker.
- 18:55You're a black coffee drinker. But I appreciate a good, like,
- 18:58like a latte cappuccino as well. But like, my coffee every
- 19:01morning is just a black coffee, Yeah.
- 19:03Yeah. Damn.
- 19:05I get the tonics. The Tonics.
- 19:08Espresso tonics like almost like you take like Topo Chico over
- 19:11tonic water and do a shot of espresso over it.
- 19:15So it's kind of like a soda coffee.
- 19:18Oh. Bubbly.
- 19:19Coffee. Damn, you're you guys are fancy
- 19:22and sophisticated, but you're not.
- 19:25You know what I mean? I.
- 19:28Think what you're looking for is fakers.
- 19:31I know for me, like I used to get a lot of lattes every day.
- 19:34And I think lattes are like Ipas, like I can only have so
- 19:38much milk. I can only have, you know, 11
- 19:42latte. And I'm like, I'm done.
- 19:43Yeah, like one IPA. I'm like, I'm full now.
- 19:46But cutting hair, you know, we'd run, get coffee in the morning
- 19:50or in between haircuts. You set it down, it gets cold.
- 19:54Like, well, my hot coffee is now cold and I don't want to drink
- 19:57it anymore. So the easiest thing was just to
- 20:00get black coffee and then. Eventually I just like Yep I
- 20:03hate life so I just drink black coffee.
- 20:06Yeah, that's. I feel like the people who drink
- 20:07black coffee are both real grown-ups.
- 20:10And so that means they hate life.
- 20:12Yeah, yeah, yeah. Very angry all the time.
- 20:14Yeah, yeah. Appreciate everybody looking at
- 20:16me while they say that. Yeah.
- 20:18Well, I mean, you don't even drink.
- 20:20So like you're like really raw dog in life.
- 20:23That's. What I say?
- 20:25Everyday like. I look in the mirror, this raw
- 20:27dog, this day. Yeah.
- 20:30And I'm like, hell no, I can't do that.
- 20:35I was going to say that what you were describing, how you used to
- 20:38do this, how you used to roast the coffee, it reminds me so
- 20:42like I watched the movie Scream and then like that one scene
- 20:47where she's like making the popcorn on the stove.
- 20:49Stove top popcorn. Yeah, yeah.
- 20:51And then like, I don't know, I just always wanted to try that.
- 20:53So like, I remember being like, I mean, I was younger, so I
- 20:57don't know, like middle school. And like, I just like, opened
- 21:00the bag of popcorn and I'm like, I'm going to do that too.
- 21:03And I'm like, open the bag of popcorn.
- 21:05And then I would just put it on the stove top and put the
- 21:07aluminum foil over it because I just wanted it like roasted it
- 21:10that way versus putting it in the microwave.
- 21:12Did it work? Yeah, it does, yeah.
- 21:15I've never opened a packet, yeah.
- 21:17Yeah. Popped yeah you can do that like
- 21:19I would do that randomly that's crazy yeah just cuz that's crazy
- 21:23you're. Wild for that.
- 21:24I'm so wild we. Went through a phase of just
- 21:26buying the popcorn kernels and just like coconut oil.
- 21:30Yeah. Oh, with coconut oil?
- 21:33Yeah, yeah, I could do. That I did.
- 21:35Pull up a picture of the whirly pop thing, this pot with the
- 21:40handle. Take a look.
- 21:41I wish we had a thing that I could, but I haven't.
- 21:45Yeah, I know. Haven't gotten that far to do it
- 21:48yet 'cause we kind. Of bank with people's.
- 21:50We used to, we used to have like our old space, we had a big ass
- 21:55TV and so we'd always be popping shit up.
- 21:57We'd be like, hey, we'd like find people on their old
- 22:00Facebook stuff or like their Myspace pics.
- 22:02And we were like, hey, do you remember when you did that?
- 22:05Our staff has been doing that to us lately.
- 22:07Oh yeah. Yeah, they're all like in their
- 22:09early 20s and just been roped roasting us so.
- 22:13What's the newest thing they roasted you for?
- 22:16Senior Photos. Senior photos, what you guys do?
- 22:20Not just looking at us like at our senior year, like what we
- 22:23looked like when we were 1819, you know.
- 22:25Just yeah. Just a just a millennial, you
- 22:28know? Yeah, not hard asses with the
- 22:30tattoos. No, I got my first one when I
- 22:33was 16. So you did?
- 22:34Yeah, I. Was already hard ass.
- 22:35Damn, for real though, where'd you get it?
- 22:38On my back, How big? It's like, I don't know.
- 22:41Oh shit. The size of the 16 year old
- 22:44back. Yeah.
- 22:47Was it like somebody doing out of their home that was a shop?
- 22:51Oh shit. Yeah, my mom signed the waiver.
- 22:54I was about to say. But looking back, you know any
- 23:00shop that's tattooing 16 year olds, it's like it's not a.
- 23:03Super Bowl Shop. So.
- 23:04It's probably like my least favorite tattoo just cuz it's
- 23:09it's like shit now. But yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 23:12What is it? A tramp stamp.
- 23:13I would, that would be cool. It's actually a memorial tattoo.
- 23:17Oh, OK. Oh yeah.
- 23:19Nice. Yeah.
- 23:20Super depressing. I didn't get my first one until
- 23:23I was 18, but I had like, literally just moved out of my
- 23:27house. And like, I remember I was
- 23:28trying to get a tattoo even before that.
- 23:30And like my parents are very conservative, like Mexican
- 23:33conservative type, not like the other type.
- 23:39And so they were like my dad was like, no, you're never going to
- 23:43get a tattoo. You're not going to do any of
- 23:45that. And literally that first week
- 23:47that I moved out, like that's when I went to go get it.
- 23:49And he like did not talk to me for almost 6 months.
- 23:53I'd be like going to see him in Dodge and he would like not talk
- 23:56to me. And I'd be like, hey dad.
- 23:57And he'd be like, but he talks to me now.
- 24:01That's good. And you've got more tattoos I
- 24:05assume? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 24:06And like, I got one in February and he like looked at my leg the
- 24:11other day and he was like, what the fuck?
- 24:12When'd you get that? And I'm like, in February I told
- 24:15you, I texted you that I was getting one and you said, why
- 24:18are you doing that? And I said, because he was like,
- 24:21I didn't think you're going to do it.
- 24:23Well, I did. My mom was like the first time I
- 24:26got one on my arm, which is my second tattoo.
- 24:29She was like, why, Why your arm? And I was like, well, I'm
- 24:33self-employed. I'm going to be self-employed my
- 24:34whole life, Mom, I don't care. And yeah, just kind of happened.
- 24:40Wait, so you guys have never had another job like or didn't have
- 24:44like the most random terrible job before you guys opened up
- 24:47your own stuff? So I worked at Schofield Body
- 24:51Shop, OK, like straight out of high school for like 9 months,
- 24:54then got laid off. Then I worked at a car wash
- 24:59Green Lantern. Oh yeah.
- 25:01So I got a job there the very next day.
- 25:02I had a buddy that worked there. I think I worked there three
- 25:04months and it was during the spring.
- 25:06And they're like, I'm sorry you got to go home.
- 25:08It's raining. And I just wasn't getting paid.
- 25:10So I quit there and went to Menards.
- 25:14And I worked at Menards for a. Year.
- 25:17I was like Barber college about to graduate Barber college when
- 25:20I got fired from Menards. I was a terrible employee.
- 25:25Have you ever seen employee of the month where they go like,
- 25:27hide up in the rafters? Yeah, I did that.
- 25:30I was like hiding. Behind stuff and sleeping.
- 25:34But where I was there at like 4:30 in the morning, 5 to 10 or
- 25:38to 9 and then I would go to Barbara College from 5:50, so.
- 25:41Shit. Yeah, I was there six days a
- 25:43week. I only had one day off and I was
- 25:44just tired all the time. Yeah, but yeah, they fired me in
- 25:49like half the store because of a winter storm.
- 25:52Everyone left and then or didn't come in.
- 25:55And then I guess corporate like fired the GM for firing
- 25:59everybody, so. Everyone was just getting fired.
- 26:02Yeah, it was wild. And then I worked at a diner.
- 26:03My brother-in-law got me a job. I worked there Sundays and
- 26:07Mondays. That sucked.
- 26:10I spilled some drinks on some people, forgot about people.
- 26:15I was a terrible server. But it's fun.
- 26:20And then it was a Sunday morning.
- 26:22I was already in a shop cutting hair.
- 26:24It was just kind of like cashed a guarantee.
- 26:27I had booth rent to pay when I was starting out and I woke up
- 26:31on a Sunday and I was like, yeah, I'm not going in today.
- 26:34So I messaged my boss on Facebook and I was like.
- 26:39Wait, did you have his number though?
- 26:41No. OK, I had him on Facebook.
- 26:42Yeah, OK, OK. And I was like, hey Carlos, I
- 26:44appreciate the opportunity, but I'm done.
- 26:47And my brother-in-law was pissed.
- 26:50All right, bet he. Was just dating my sister at the
- 26:52time too so it wasn't that serious but now?
- 26:56They're married. Yeah, yeah, basically.
- 27:03But he's pissed. And then I guess three days
- 27:05later, like his investor came in and they got in an argument and
- 27:08then the investor, like, stood on table and was like, everyone,
- 27:11we appreciate you coming and giving U.S. business, but when
- 27:13you're done eating, we ask you leave.
- 27:14We're permanently closed. Damn.
- 27:16He just, like, pulled everything and, like, shut down the
- 27:19restaurant. So I would have lost my job.
- 27:20Yeah, in three days anyway. So I could have worked two extra
- 27:24shifts and maybe pulled unemployment, you know, done it
- 27:27the smart way, but. True.
- 27:28Yeah, I guess that. But you didn't.
- 27:30You didn't know. You didn't know what was gonna
- 27:32happen. But also like, that sounds Tele
- 27:33traumatic. No, it was.
- 27:35Funny. My brother, how old?
- 27:39Were you, I was 2019, something like that.
- 27:42Yeah. Just a terrible person, you
- 27:44know. But yeah, that was, that was
- 27:47really my only then I, yeah, just cut hair, went into cutting
- 27:50hair and learned real quick I have to, you know, be in charge
- 27:56of my shit otherwise that, you know, I'm not going to get busy
- 27:59and I grow up essentially, you know, and yeah, understand that
- 28:04your boss just sometimes wants you.
- 28:06To do the job that you're there. For And when you're
- 28:08self-employed, you are the boss and you kind of have to show up
- 28:11for yourself so. Yeah, and now your hell is
- 28:13showing up for yourself. And so then, when did Fox?
- 28:16He never misses work. Yeah, I.
- 28:17Never. I remember one day he came in to
- 28:20the Barber shop and he had gotten bit in the neck by a
- 28:24spider that. Wasn't that part?
- 28:26That wasn't that day, it was when the lawnmower stick is the
- 28:30lawnmower. So he got I had a really rough
- 28:33year eyeball. Yeah.
- 28:34Stick. Wait, wait.
- 28:35Sorry, what? I had a really rough year where
- 28:38I had multiple injuries, just freak accidents and.
- 28:43Like 1000 ways to die. Yeah, pretty much.
- 28:45I was mowing my yard. Wear safety glasses when you
- 28:47mow. I was.
- 28:48I need a freaking paintball mask.
- 28:52I was well in my yard and it like something shot up from
- 28:56underneath my glasses and it hit my eye and I ended up lacerating
- 28:58my eye from like white across the color and people all the way
- 29:03to white so it was like across my whole eye.
- 29:05Damn. And your eyes look good though.
- 29:06Well, completely healed. This is a miracle and I lost no
- 29:10vision but it hurt just to like, I mean obviously it hurt, it's
- 29:15terrible but I went into work the next day and my eye's all
- 29:19fucking swollen and it's like leaking everywhere.
- 29:21Oh my. God, and Kayla's like, go home,
- 29:24what are you doing? And I called an eye doctor and
- 29:29then our office and they're like, we can't see you for three
- 29:32weeks and. I was like what the fuck my.
- 29:33Eye's messed up. And then I got ahold of the lady
- 29:36and she's, it was like at the grocery store and she's like,
- 29:40meet me there right now. And so she got me in.
- 29:42And then my wife's like, I bet you just got something in there,
- 29:46but it just hurts. And then they put like a dye in
- 29:47there and you can see the laceration across and she's
- 29:52like, how are you not in pain right now?
- 29:54I was like I am. And I've been trying to tell
- 29:57you. She's like, this is the worst
- 29:59laceration I've seen without someone going permanently blind.
- 30:02Yeah, and. They.
- 30:05Put like a clear contact lens. I was like a bandage over it
- 30:08and. Then that's how crazy.
- 30:10Two days later I got taken out and then for like 3 years I had
- 30:14to put a like a Vaseline substance in there while I sleep
- 30:18and then special like eye drops, which if you use too much of it,
- 30:22your eyes will stop producing the natural like oils.
- 30:25So I had to like wean myself off of it and it was just like I had
- 30:29to wear like face masks when I sleep and I couldn't have fans.
- 30:32Yeah, it sucked. It was awful so.
- 30:34How did you mean you put Vaseline?
- 30:36It was like a, it was like a Vaseline substance, but I don't
- 30:38like pull my eyelid up and like tuck it in there and then like
- 30:42roll my eyes around and then, but I had to do it like right
- 30:45before bed because everything would just get like blurry in
- 30:48that eye. Yeah.
- 30:49So. Fuck dude.
- 30:51Damn, how long ago was that? 201516 something like that,
- 31:00yeah, was it? About. 4 after I got married I
- 31:04don't know 201626 you were a living in your your big house
- 31:08well, I bought my big house in 2016 so it's.
- 31:11Big house, Big house. Well, not in the right, not in
- 31:14the nice way. It's.
- 31:15A big old White House with pillars.
- 31:17And our friend James, who's black, called it the Big House.
- 31:20And I was and it just kind of stuck.
- 31:22And I was like, don't worry, call it that, but here we are.
- 31:28So was Fox and Ash there at that time yet or no?
- 31:33Like when did Fox and Ash show up?
- 31:352014, yeah, 2014. So yeah, it was already there.
- 31:39So you're seeing your clients with this eyeball like that just
- 31:44leaking on them. No, I it was like I came in like
- 31:47swimming like this and he's like, what are you doing?
- 31:49And yeah, it was, he's like, go home.
- 31:52But yeah, I never take, I never take days off.
- 31:54I just remember the whole side of his face was like swollen.
- 31:57Well, that's when I got bit by the spider.
- 31:59It looked like I had a softball on my throat.
- 32:01They blend together. It was very close to that.
- 32:03I got bit by brown recluse on my neck.
- 32:05Oh, man. And he's like, does this look
- 32:09bad? And I was like, go to the
- 32:10doctor. Well.
- 32:12You're, I don't think Tiffany was You don't think you guys
- 32:17were married yet, were you? Yeah, we were married.
- 32:18OK. So his wife worked at Grace Med
- 32:21down the street from the Barber shop.
- 32:22And I was like, I don't have a doctor here.
- 32:24And so I went to Grace Med and his wife gave me a steroid shot
- 32:27in my ass cuz my whole body broke out in hives and I had
- 32:31like a giant like swelling on my throat.
- 32:35You can even see him like any of this right here, just all
- 32:37swollen out. I think you took like a day off.
- 32:39Dude came back, yeah. That's pretty wild.
- 32:44Where do you know where it bit you like as in no, I mean like
- 32:47where in like were you at home? Oh, yeah, I was asleep.
- 32:51Yeah. It was like 3:00 in the morning,
- 32:52and I felt something on my chest, and I'd seen a few
- 32:55spiders in the house. So then I was like, oh, fuck.
- 32:57And I went to reach for it and it just bit me.
- 33:01Yeah. Didn't get Spider Man powers.
- 33:02No you didn't. It reminds me of spider man but
- 33:05instead like you got the real fucked up.
- 33:07Like I'm trying to imagine something but I can't even think
- 33:11of the word but just some some real gross snarly shit.
- 33:13It's a real villain. Story.
- 33:15It's a real villain story. That's why you're an asshole.
- 33:20But you were an asshole before that.
- 33:22Yeah, Yeah. Well, yeah, yeah.
- 33:26Caleb didn't want me to work in McPherson when I first.
- 33:29No, Yeah, He's like doing dangerous.
- 33:30Too spicy for up here. They weren't ready for him.
- 33:34Yeah, yeah, cuz you seem but they.
- 33:37Chiller. They grew to like him.
- 33:38Yeah. Yeah, one of our friends, it was
- 33:40like the first time he ever was in the shop with me.
- 33:43He like, pulled James aside. He's like, so that Andrew guy,
- 33:46what's up? What's up with him?
- 33:48He's kind of an asshole, right? And James, like, no, that's just
- 33:51Andrew. He's just his face.
- 33:52He just says. He just puts it out there.
- 33:55He just says what he feels so. Dude that that's so mean.
- 33:59Like fuck. People don't like that blonde
- 34:01personality sometimes. Yeah.
- 34:03Like even when it happens to me, I'm like oh, fuck.
- 34:06And I'm like, oh, they're just like me.
- 34:07OK, that's. Why Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 34:09Like I'm kind of, I'm the same. I'm pretty blunt.
- 34:11I'm pretty like to the point, like I avoid, like if I can tell
- 34:16that you're beating around the Bush, like I will purposely
- 34:19ignore it until you fucking say it with your chest.
- 34:22Like just say show with your chest.
- 34:24You know, I appreciate people who do that.
- 34:26But to your point, sometimes when it's done to me, I'm like,
- 34:29oh, that's how I sound. Yeah.
- 34:32And then I have the RBF on top of it, so it's just like.
- 34:35Yeah, yeah, Damn. Sometimes I tell Dusty all the
- 34:40time that I can't wear certain things like like jersey shirts
- 34:43like that, because then I look lesbian.
- 34:46I'm first Gen. So I can confirm my my mom's
- 34:52lesbian SO. OK, yeah, do do you get the
- 34:55lesbian radar? With Oh yeah, I have gaydar
- 34:57hardcore. No, you.
- 34:58Though, But yeah, OK, cool. You can like the, the, it's the
- 35:02visual, right? Yeah.
- 35:03Like sometimes I'll be out with friends and like girlfriends and
- 35:06then they'll like, you know, be like girls touchy and stuff.
- 35:09And I'm like, don't fucking touch me because people already
- 35:11think I'm lesbian. But Speaking of lesbianism, we
- 35:17should probably break for drinks because we haven't done a drink
- 35:19yet for you guys. Yeah, that sounds good.
- 35:22Yeah, sorry, that was not the best segue.
- 35:28I I know we still have a little bit more I think, right.
- 35:39Thanks for the copy, Emily. I really needed it.
- 35:42No problem, we gotta hurry because we're always late.
- 35:45Oh no, the lights turning red. No.
- 35:49Oh man, there's copy everywhere. Where are the napkins?
- 35:51Don't worry about it, we can just go ahead and I'll schedule
- 35:54with two U auto. They'll come to where we're at
- 35:56and then they'll clean it while we're at the wedding.
- 35:58OK, you drive I'll schedule with two U auto.
- 36:00What's the website? Go to 2uauto.com.
- 36:04Wait, what was it again? The number 2.
- 36:07The letter U auto.com. Perfect.
- 36:10All right. Ready.
- 36:11Steady Eddie. Yes.
- 36:13Segment #2MM, hmm, all. Right.
- 36:18Here we go in three two. You're going to bring us back
- 36:23one. And welcome back, ladies and
- 36:47gentlemen. We are sitting down to segment
- 36:50#2 with the fellas from Pennant Coffee and Good Company.
- 36:55And Fox and Ash. And Fox and Ash.
- 36:57Y'all have way too many businesses.
- 37:00Y'all need to stop but you guys are hiring for a bartender.
- 37:04Would you guys hire me? Yeah.
- 37:06Would you or are you just saying that?
- 37:08No, no, I don't know. Andrew's like I'm not saying
- 37:12shit. Fuck this bitch.
- 37:13I don't hire. Anybody.
- 37:15She just told you. Barbara's never lie.
- 37:17Yeah, OK. Yeah, but he's not saying
- 37:19nothing. Don't do the hiring, you know.
- 37:24So we made you guys a last word and then we made Nick a kind
- 37:27word. Any thoughts?
- 37:30You can be crucial. You can be like diabolical and
- 37:33and like hurt my feelings. I won't cry on camera.
- 37:37Yeah, let her know. How does it taste?
- 37:40That's good. I.
- 37:40Mean mine's almost gone so. Yes, Nick.
- 37:45Drank. It Nick drank it while I was out
- 37:48of the room. I took it out to my car and
- 37:50drank it. So we had to do something, you
- 37:55know, we haven't had a gin drink in a really long time.
- 37:57We've only had one gin drink and that was like episode like 3 or
- 38:024. Like we haven't had like gin at
- 38:04all. And then on that, on that
- 38:06episode, I did a gin shot and it was like 2.
- 38:10What is it? Bombardy Bombay.
- 38:13Bombay Yeah, yeah, that shit was disgusting.
- 38:16Yeah, I have. I.
- 38:18Had one bad Bombay night. Oh, really?
- 38:20Yeah. How old were you?
- 38:21I was. Like 19.
- 38:24Shit, so you were always sophisticated.
- 38:26I feel like gin is sophisticated.
- 38:28I don't know about Bombay. I can drink anything to be
- 38:31honest. But yeah, I prefer gin or vodka.
- 38:34Yeah, well, I think like when I I saw Jen and I'm like OK,
- 38:38everyone's going to do gin and a non alcoholic gin of course too.
- 38:43Yeah. Thank you for the
- 38:44representation. Of course, of course we do
- 38:46mocktails on here. I'm not going to do the
- 38:48mocktail, but I'll make the mocktail for you because I care
- 38:51about you and your safety, I feel.
- 38:54Cared for. But we had to do, you know, a
- 38:59Gen. option and like, I was running around yesterday trying
- 39:02to find all this shit for you guys.
- 39:03So you should all feel very special.
- 39:05Thank you, you picked a good one.
- 39:07Yeah. And it's from Kansas City.
- 39:10It is, yeah. I didn't know shit about that.
- 39:12It'd just be like, hey, what's this?
- 39:16I'm gonna get it. You should have taken the
- 39:18credit. Nobody would have questioned.
- 39:20Yeah, I knew that exactly. That's why I did it.
- 39:24Yeah, Good job. Thank you.
- 39:28But talking about good company, when did that come along?
- 39:31That was September 2022. So the barbershop, like, you
- 39:37know, went through the pandemic and all that.
- 39:39And that was a blast. Eight years, eight years of
- 39:43business with Fox and Ash at that point.
- 39:45Yeah. And that was just Caleb and I at
- 39:49that point. OK, Yeah.
- 39:51Yeah. So we're ready to do something
- 39:52different. And it started out it was just
- 39:55supposed to be kind of like a, like a tap room, like a really,
- 40:00really simple space just for our customers to enjoy while they
- 40:04wait for their haircut. Oh.
- 40:05Shit, nice. And we hired our bar manager,
- 40:07Nathan. He's like just an encyclopedia
- 40:11when it comes to liquor and just made good company Exactly what
- 40:17it is today. And it's far more advanced than
- 40:22it ever would have been without him.
- 40:23Yeah, insane. I mean, yeah, I mean, like he
- 40:26went and like competed for nationwide, right?
- 40:28It was nationwide. Yeah, he did a national
- 40:30competition and got third, and so he competed against.
- 40:36The person I won was from New York.
- 40:38The person I got second, I believe was from Chicago.
- 40:40Damn. Then Nathan got third from
- 40:41Wichita. That's hella cool though.
- 40:43Like competing like that, you know?
- 40:45Yeah, he beat out a bartender from Lai Believe Austin and
- 40:49Miami so. That's fucking cool.
- 40:52Yeah, they probably have more people in a couple neighborhoods
- 40:56than we do in our entire city. And.
- 41:00Yeah, Nathan represented for sure.
- 41:02Yeah, yeah, Nathan does make some bomb ass drinks.
- 41:05Like that time that we met you guys for the meeting first,
- 41:08right? Like Dusty and I walked out.
- 41:10We were like, bro, are you drunk?
- 41:11Because I'm drunk. Yeah, we, we haven't had dinner
- 41:14yet either. So like they, they hit kind of
- 41:17they hit. Well, we're pretty.
- 41:18Boozy. They can get pretty boozy.
- 41:19A good company. Yeah, yeah, like I've known like
- 41:22you guys are pretty busy over there, but so pen and coffee
- 41:27came into that too somehow or like.
- 41:30Like a few months. So we open Good Company in
- 41:32September, and then in December we opened up Pennant, OK, and it
- 41:36was all in the Revolution Container Park.
- 41:39So they were all connected. So you could grab your coffee,
- 41:42grab your cocktails, or grab a haircut.
- 41:45Get a haircut. Grab a haircut.
- 41:48Yeah. Take it to go.
- 41:50Take it to go with the the small you're like.
- 41:54Pocket Clipper. The Pocket Clipper.
- 41:55Yeah, yeah, yeah. You just you need to sell those.
- 41:59Well, you know, I'm a humble guy, so.
- 42:01Fair, fair. Yeah, yeah.
- 42:03Not everybody gets them. Yeah, yeah, they're hard to come
- 42:06by. Comb by all.
- 42:12Right. It's been a great show.
- 42:13Thanks guys. Let's.
- 42:14GoDaddy. I'm a dad.
- 42:17Such a bad joke. Just because your pellet can
- 42:20doesn't mean your pellet should. I've been waiting to say that
- 42:30and does. He told me not to say that, but
- 42:32I've been waiting to say it it. Was a slow burn.
- 42:34It took me a minute. I was like Pellet.
- 42:37Pellet pellet can you should be pellet should you know.
- 42:40Doesn't mean your pellet should. I am.
- 42:43Yeah, shout out to quick shout out to Revolution, though.
- 42:47It's one of the spots that I like going to when the time
- 42:52arises. I am.
- 42:54You're DJing over there sometimes.
- 42:56Yeah, my my cousin owns the Dummy Apparel right next door to
- 43:00you guys. To Danny.
- 43:02I didn't. I didn't know that.
- 43:03And yeah, he throws the little bazaars in the courtyard there
- 43:07and I get to come TJ. So next time we do that, I'll
- 43:11pop in and say what's up. So talking about popping in, So
- 43:20what? Like I want to hear like I'm not
- 43:24ready for these. I want to hear about like,
- 43:28what's something that you guys hate about each other when you
- 43:30work together? Andrew's match, so just on
- 43:36Friday, just yesterday. What'd you do?
- 43:40We we're getting the same answers, just doing math
- 43:43differently. And he's doing it exponentially
- 43:47harder. But it makes sense in my brain.
- 43:48Yeah. And he's explaining.
- 43:50Me. Are you autistic?
- 43:51Yes, undiagnosed, I know I am. Yeah, yeah, cuz you're friends
- 43:55with Joe. Yeah, yeah.
- 43:56That's why. That makes sense.
- 43:58You checked my boxes for me. I was like.
- 44:00We're Yep. The same He recently got
- 44:02diagnosed, Yeah. Yeah.
- 44:04Yeah, he's pretty high up there too.
- 44:05Yeah, he got a whole cake and everything.
- 44:07Yeah, I have the. Yeah, it was.
- 44:10Kind of cool. Yeah, I about crashed out in the
- 44:16kitchen yesterday, spilled hot syrup all over myself, spilled
- 44:20water all over the ground, which is not good.
- 44:22Yeah, and then we had syrup, had dried syrup all in my crotch.
- 44:29It was awesome. We decided to go to Costco
- 44:32afterwards and have a business meeting in the in the cafeteria
- 44:36and get $1.50 hot dog. Oh, nice, nice.
- 44:39That brought him back. Yeah.
- 44:41You were able to come back from the spiral?
- 44:44Yeah, yeah, yeah. What were you doing with the
- 44:45math? It was how much sugar, water
- 44:50ratios and he's like, I don't, I probably shouldn't explain it
- 44:53cuz he'll get pissed. He was explaining Oz and I'm
- 44:57like, it's fucking grams and there's a recipe and it was
- 45:00right in front of him. Well, and all he had to do was
- 45:03read it. Well, OK, so I was like, it's a
- 45:04quadruple. He's like, no, I'm like your
- 45:06fucking numbers are quadruple to what the recipe book says.
- 45:09And yeah, it was just. You're a fractions guy.
- 45:12No. No, OK, you're a fractions guy.
- 45:14I'm a 6th grade math guy. I quit paying attention in
- 45:20school in like 7th grade. Fair.
- 45:22I graduated. I graduated high school barely.
- 45:26Barely. Yeah, just yeah, just school is
- 45:30not for me. I was a.
- 45:32Deviant. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 45:36I was pretty good at school though, so I can't relate.
- 45:38Sorry. I don't get geometry.
- 45:40I'm not. That's the only math I didn't
- 45:41like. Yeah, I can do.
- 45:43I can do letters in math. I can't do shapes in math.
- 45:45Like it really fucks me. Especially proofs.
- 45:48Yeah, So what do we hate about Nick?
- 45:52He shows up late every Friday to the meeting.
- 45:55I love, I love how that was like.
- 45:56You're ready. Yeah, I have.
- 45:58Yep. Man shows up.
- 46:04We've been working hard in the kitchen and he comes in.
- 46:09To be fair, he lives an hour away, lives in a. 1000.
- 46:12Years, no excuses, no days off, goes in the apps with all the
- 46:20all the staff, makes them feel welcomed and appreciated and
- 46:24then. Doesn't make you feel welcome or
- 46:27appreciated. Comes back with a little
- 46:28cappuccino. I like to imagine him like
- 46:31barely hovering off the ground with his cappuccino.
- 46:34Yeah, he's like. He's like, you're like the old
- 46:36guy feels. Yeah, you're like the little old
- 46:38guy. Yeah, he's like, so you guys
- 46:40want to get Chipotle for lunch? What are you guys doing after
- 46:44this? The.
- 46:47Answer is yes. The answer is yes.
- 46:51I don't know if I can do that. I don't have time I.
- 46:53Can't trust them. I know you can't, that's why
- 46:56your hairline is receding. I'm sorry.
- 46:58God damn. Can I get some kind of sound
- 47:04effect for that? Thank you.
- 47:09Shit, sorry Dusty, what do you hate about working with me?
- 47:16That's me. That.
- 47:17Right there. That's what you hear about
- 47:22working with me. Comes.
- 47:26OK. I will say though, when when
- 47:29we're in the back rolling burritos together, we're flying.
- 47:32Yeah, that's when the Ojs come out.
- 47:34That's when the Ojs come out. Yeah, that's when the shared
- 47:36brain comes out too. Yeah, yeah.
- 47:39OK. You guys have to share one OJ.
- 47:41Yeah cuz for anyone that's not didn't know OJ normally is
- 47:47orange orange juice. Yes, but here it's not OJ, it's.
- 47:50OJ Simpson. No.
- 47:57No, it's the owner's joke. It's just jokes that we share
- 48:02amongst each other. I don't know what an owner's
- 48:03It's just like things when they arise, they will say dumb
- 48:06things. You, you both are like, can you
- 48:09think a certain way you know or? Yeah, yeah, you got to share one
- 48:12I. Just I can't have they think of
- 48:14anything on the top of my head. They just, they always come up
- 48:16circumstantially. Like there's never like a long
- 48:18standing owner's joke. It's like it'd be like a, that's
- 48:22what she said. Yeah, it's just trying.
- 48:24To keep it professional. But we're like, you know,
- 48:27children at heart. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 48:30It's things we shouldn't say. So we just look at each other
- 48:32and we're like OJ. OK, So what do we hate about
- 48:38Caleb? Everything.
- 48:42Because he's so nice. Roped me into all of this.
- 48:46Getting your fucking business and like never having any money
- 48:49ever again in your life. That's very accurate.
- 48:59He has qualities. Like how they're.
- 49:00Struggling. That's sweet.
- 49:02He's got qualities. It's it's genuine.
- 49:05It's it's, it's a nice hearted, like he's not coming from a bad
- 49:08space. But I feel like he gets this
- 49:10from his dad where he's like, oh, yeah, so you're doing this
- 49:14thing a certain way. Let me show you a different way
- 49:16to do it. And I'm like, my way is like
- 49:17working for me. And then I let him.
- 49:20I let him learn. The thing is, is the container,
- 49:24he pointed at a container. He said use that one.
- 49:25I picked that container up. It was too small.
- 49:28So the math was right. The container was too small.
- 49:29He should have used a bigger one.
- 49:32That's what it was. But he pointed at the small
- 49:34container. So you ever tried to pour liquid
- 49:36into a plastic bag? No, no, actually, hold on.
- 49:39I'm from Mexico so sometimes like you cannot get an AUA
- 49:43Fresca in a plastic bag and it's pretty cool.
- 49:46But have you poured it in there? No, I've not poured it in there.
- 49:50I've not been the one that pours it in.
- 49:51Well, it's. Like molten hot and it's
- 49:53extremely hot and if you don't have the right container, yeah,
- 49:58I hate being sticky too. So like it just instantly pissed
- 50:02me off as soon as I started. Getting.
- 50:04Stinky. Yeah.
- 50:04Yeah. You're a texture guy.
- 50:07Yeah, fair. I got that.
- 50:09Yeah, yeah, I'm a smells like for me, certain smells like.
- 50:13As soon as I smell something, I'm like no, yeah, is.
- 50:17There certain bad smells that you're like, you shouldn't like
- 50:19the smell, but you're like that kind of smells good like
- 50:22gasoline. Yeah, OK.
- 50:23This is I'm going to say this. Are you sure I'm?
- 50:28Going to say this. You have to now.
- 50:30Yeah, OK. Sometimes.
- 50:34Your own. Farts.
- 50:35No, I think. I think everybody likes their
- 50:39own farts, everybody likes their output.
- 50:42Everybody's got a brand. Everybody's got a brand and we
- 50:45just got to own our brand. OK, No, I think I'm going to say
- 50:48more of a PG131. Towels like it.
- 50:52Like the smell of towels. Like a like fresh out the dryer.
- 50:55No. Like 3.
- 50:57Day old. Yeah, like.
- 50:59Sour towels. Yeah, you've used it a few times
- 51:03and it's been hanging there. Yeah, yeah.
- 51:08I'm gonna judge you on that one. I see, that's why I said the
- 51:12PG131. Y'all didn't want to know the
- 51:14rated R1? We do want to know that, yeah.
- 51:18Yeah, yeah, maybe off air, sure. You know, some things still got
- 51:21to stay private, yeah. Yeah.
- 51:26Yeah. Yeah.
- 51:28So wait, you never said what you hate about working with me.
- 51:34Sounded like he just thinks about beating you up all the
- 51:36time. You're a bit abusive man.
- 51:40That's that's excessive as fuck. Damn, he treats me like a little
- 51:43sister so that makes sense. Dusty has literally fucking
- 51:47farted on me like we'll be hanging out it.
- 51:50Wasn't on it was on Emily. I like it on.
- 51:53You. We're talking about we're
- 51:56talking about Christmas, right? The Christmas pic.
- 51:58Oh, wait, yeah, that time. You did you fucking farted on me
- 52:01it. Was funny.
- 52:03No, it was not. No, it was not.
- 52:05Posing. We just got in posing for a
- 52:07picture they took and then I let one RIP and.
- 52:12She's. Like, but he does that shit all
- 52:14the time. Like sometimes he'll send me a
- 52:16Snapchat and it's fucking him farting and I'm like Dusty, I
- 52:20don't need this. It was funny because they were
- 52:23super loud and my dog was playing like right by my butt so
- 52:26I was farting with my. Dog, I will say, like being a
- 52:29dad, it's pretty fun to fart in front of my kid.
- 52:33Yeah, she's just like, she thinks it's hilarious.
- 52:36But I get the protein farts and they're just like, yeah.
- 52:40Dada. Dada.
- 52:42That smells gross. Well.
- 52:48My son's at the age where he's doing like full grown man farts.
- 52:52He's like. How is that coming out?
- 52:54He like woke me up. I think I heard one last time I
- 52:58was at your house. Yeah, they're deep.
- 53:02Yeah, basic. Oh my.
- 53:05God, the funny ones are when your pets farts.
- 53:08You know, Oh no, I do not like those.
- 53:10They like, look back at their fuse.
- 53:12Yeah, they're just. Like did I do that?
- 53:14I'm like, yeah, you did get get off me.
- 53:16My thanks. My dog's not a farter, she's a
- 53:18Burper. What?
- 53:20Yeah, she burps. Oh what?
- 53:21That's crazy. Yeah, she chugs a lot of water
- 53:23and then she goes. What type of dog do you have?
- 53:26She's a golden doodle. OK.
- 53:27Oh, those are pretty. Yeah.
- 53:29And she? She's wild.
- 53:31She's not a lady. No, not at all.
- 53:33No, no. We got her and then found out
- 53:36ten days later that my wife was pregnant.
- 53:38So I was like, oh, I get 22 puppies now.
- 53:41Yeah, literally, I bet you. Love more?
- 53:45Well, I had the conversation with my dog.
- 53:49When? My daughter was born like, hey,
- 53:52you ever hurt this child, you will no longer exist.
- 53:56So she's. She's great.
- 53:59So you love your baby more? Yeah, that's sweet.
- 54:02Because I have guy friends who will be like, I love my dog more
- 54:04so, but they just don't say that around their wife because the
- 54:07wife has told them they can't do that anymore.
- 54:09Or like, I have a really good guy friend who had a picture of
- 54:13his dog as a screensaver for the longest time.
- 54:15And as soon as the baby came there, like the wife was like,
- 54:18you got to take that off, like put your baby on there.
- 54:21Oh yeah, the amount of times I stopped.
- 54:23Like I used to post my dog all the time and then my baby came
- 54:27and now it's big. Just back burner.
- 54:29I forget I even have dogs. She took it like a champ though,
- 54:35yeah. So good.
- 54:36Good, yeah. So when you said don't hurt the
- 54:41baby or you won't exist anymore, does that exist of fat or?
- 54:49Yeah, I'm from the South side. That's how we handled it.
- 54:52Our dogs when I was a kid, you know that's illegal.
- 54:56My mom. It was not if no one let.
- 54:58Go whenever we'd get like animals and my mom was just like
- 55:02tired of dealing with them when I was a kid.
- 55:05Don't listen to this Gina. Like one time I came home from
- 55:09school and the like we didn't have our fence wasn't fenced in
- 55:14and the like leash in his collar was out there and the my mom had
- 55:19cut his collar to make it look like he escaped.
- 55:23But really, she just got rid of him, just gave him.
- 55:25To somebody else, she's. Like, your dog ran away.
- 55:27And I'm like, devastated, you know?
- 55:29And I found out years later my mom just got rid of that dog.
- 55:32My dad did that to me. So we and Dodge live out in a
- 55:36ranch and like, I always had a cat and a dog growing up and
- 55:41like, my dad would go and just, like, drop my dog off in a
- 55:46random neighborhood and, like, be like, this dog is not your
- 55:49dog anymore. I remember like the Yeah.
- 55:52And like one of them was like my best friend's dog.
- 55:55And she had moved to. It was your.
- 55:57Dog. She became my dog because it was
- 56:00my best friend's dog, but she moved to a neighborhood where
- 56:03they kind of have pets, and so she gave her to me.
- 56:07And so, you know, like, this was my best friend growing up and Oh
- 56:10my God, if Valeria ever hears this, she's going to hate me.
- 56:13I didn't even think about that. But like, so she gave me her
- 56:17dog. Like, I loved her dog because
- 56:19obviously that was, like, my best friend and my dad, and she
- 56:21would get pregnant all the time. And my dad did not want to go
- 56:24and get her fixed because that's money.
- 56:25Yeah. And same thing.
- 56:27Yeah. And he's like, no, we're not
- 56:29going to get her fixed. And so he just went and dropped
- 56:32her off in a random place and abandoned her.
- 56:35And I remember crying and crying and, like, doing the most
- 56:39dramatic shit ever. Like I'm behind the truck,
- 56:42crying, rolling around, basically, you know, did I?
- 56:45Bring you with the dog. No, no, no he didn't.
- 56:48That's my you're opening the door.
- 56:49Yeah, No, no, no, no. You know, traumatized, but no, I
- 56:54just because he did that shit to another dog of mine that I
- 56:57really love to. And yeah, and he did that.
- 57:00And I just, I, I remember just crying a shit ton.
- 57:03And then, like, both of them being like, get the fuck over
- 57:06it, it's a dog. And I'm like, no, you don't
- 57:08understand. Like this was like, you know,
- 57:11the embodiment of my best friend.
- 57:13Yeah. So anyways, I have pets now at
- 57:16my house and they're not allowed to do shit to them.
- 57:20What are your pets? I have two cats.
- 57:23I have a Bengal and I have a She's a cat too, but I don't
- 57:28know, I don't remember what the fuck she is.
- 57:30Oh, Calico. She's cats.
- 57:32Oh, OK. Yeah.
- 57:33But do you like the cats more or do you hate?
- 57:35Do you like the dog more? I.
- 57:37Like the dog more. I've had my cats for like 12-11
- 57:39years. Yeah, you're over them.
- 57:41Yeah, 1 was my father in law's cat from a divorce and then like
- 57:47we ended up with a cat and then it didn't like me and I wanted a
- 57:51cat that liked me so we adopted the other one.
- 57:53Does that one like you? Oh yeah, she's great.
- 57:55OK, they're both, I mean, they're both like me, but I just
- 58:00feel like they're old and they're just kind of like
- 58:02chilling. They just do their own thing.
- 58:03Now. One of them, you just do
- 58:06whatever you want to. She's like does not care.
- 58:07You can hold her upside down. She's like, OK, I'm here.
- 58:10The other ones like don't touch me.
- 58:12Yeah. So OK, that's the one that
- 58:13doesn't like you. Yeah.
- 58:15Yeah, but yeah, one's like AI don't know some Siberian looking
- 58:22cat. That sounds pretty the.
- 58:24Other one is a calico. Yeah, yeah, The Calicos, I've
- 58:28learned that they actually don't like to be fucked with very
- 58:30much. Like they're very independent.
- 58:33Yeah, I didn't know that until I got her.
- 58:35And I was like well fuck, because I had got him then.
- 58:37You had to get another cat. I feel like I need another pet.
- 58:40I think I want a dog go. And.
- 58:44Doodle like I really want like a pet like that that like doesn't
- 58:47shed a lot because my calico is long haired and so yeah, I
- 58:52don't, you know, it's too much, OK.
- 58:54Mine doesn't shed at all. Yeah, I want some.
- 58:57Yeah, yeah. No allergies, you don't want to
- 59:00be that pet person that always has hair all over.
- 59:03Yeah, yeah. Just carry around on that
- 59:07roller, yeah? It's a chore and them folks
- 59:10always be wearing black too. Look at.
- 59:13That long white Husky hair all over.
- 59:15You. Yeah, I do.
- 59:16I do. You're looking at Nick's looking
- 59:18at himself, like did I actually take it all off?
- 59:20He's. Got a pit?
- 59:22Oh, OK, So you're good. Yeah, you're always clean.
- 59:26Yeah, short hair too, because they shed too.
- 59:29He does shed, but it's it's doesn't it's not the the type
- 59:32that like sticks. Yeah, some dogs like shed and it
- 59:34just sticks and everything and like impossible to clean like
- 59:37no. So.
- 59:39He's a good boy. But he's white, so I wear a lot
- 59:42of black, so it is like a little.
- 59:44Risky. Hey, I'm just realizing it.
- 59:46That's one of the brands from the.
- 59:49Yeah, Fox and Ash merch. Hey, I like that.
- 59:53What's in the back? Same design, just bigger.
- 59:55You need a stand up show. Yeah, you got it.
- 59:57You got it. Yeah, right there, Right there.
- 59:59The camera's right there. Oh.
- 1:00:00Wait, watch your headset. Damn, I'm gonna pretend that I
- 1:00:07saw that, but it's going to be right there, so I'll watch it
- 1:00:10later. Looked.
- 1:00:12Like. A fox?
- 1:00:12Where did where did the name come from Fox and Ash go?
- 1:00:16Ahead and roll the sleeve up, getting all the barbershop
- 1:00:18questions. How did?
- 1:00:19How did that? I have a tattoo about Fox.
- 1:00:23You guys actually interviewed Shayla Roche?
- 1:00:26Yeah, we did and. She did that tattoo and the
- 1:00:30first shop was on Ash St. OH.
- 1:00:33Nice. Came from a generation of
- 1:00:35businesses that were word and word.
- 1:00:40Timeless. Timeless.
- 1:00:42Timeless. So you fuck with Shayla?
- 1:00:44Yeah. Yeah, I love her.
- 1:00:45I love. Shayla, she did all of.
- 1:00:47This right on. Oh shit, nice.
- 1:00:49She did my I have two behind my ear.
- 1:00:53She was supposed to fill them in and then like she hella called
- 1:00:57me out on that episode too. Like I was like, hey.
- 1:00:59You didn't come. Back, I didn't come back.
- 1:01:01She did the outline and I was like, this is cool.
- 1:01:03And then she was like, yeah, if you're like, funny, who's not
- 1:01:06going to come back after like, I don't know that you want that
- 1:01:09type of client. And I was like, hey, but I still
- 1:01:12support you. I did that with my stomach.
- 1:01:14Oh shit, fuck. She did the outline on my
- 1:01:16stomach and I didn't go back for like a year and a half.
- 1:01:18But like your stomach, that makes sense and.
- 1:01:20Then I came back and then she did all the like, black work and
- 1:01:23she's like, hey, we're going to schedule you another one so you
- 1:01:25don't do that again. So.
- 1:01:28Did you finish it? Yeah, it's done.
- 1:01:30Yeah. Fuck, I'm at that point where
- 1:01:33like, I don't like the tattoo pain.
- 1:01:36Do you guys still fuck with the tattoo Like I hate?
- 1:01:38It I hate getting tattooed I. Hate getting tattooed?
- 1:01:41Yeah, I'm having a bad day. It's great.
- 1:01:43I think. The other day I hate it.
- 1:01:45Yeah, I actually got played very recently that I was this close
- 1:01:49to to being like, hey, can I, can you squeeze me in for a
- 1:01:52tattoo session? Yeah, I'm itching.
- 1:01:55I'm supposed to. So I have my chest completely
- 1:01:57done as well, and I'm supposed to get my ribs done and my
- 1:02:02buddy's been just like making fun of me because I'm not making
- 1:02:05appointments with them. Yeah, I know.
- 1:02:07That sucks. Though so.
- 1:02:11But I made a a, a goal for myself to get my ribs at least
- 1:02:15started this year, and then I want to get the back of my hands
- 1:02:17done as well, so. Brutal.
- 1:02:19You're talking about your palms. No, the back of my hands.
- 1:02:21Oh fuck though, that's. Pretty painful.
- 1:02:25Yeah, but as a Barber, you're going to have to be out and you
- 1:02:28don't like to take days off. Yeah.
- 1:02:30Yeah, got to get on Friday when I'm in the cafes or supposed to
- 1:02:32be in the cafe, you know. So, well, I mean, while you're
- 1:02:36waiting for Nick to show up for the meeting.
- 1:02:37Anyways, I'll hang. There by myself.
- 1:02:39Yeah, I'll show up early for you so you can go get a tansy.
- 1:02:41Thanks. Yeah.
- 1:02:43You're when you're sitting through and feeling that tattoo
- 1:02:46pain, do you think to yourself like man, people like enjoy this
- 1:02:52pain? No, I'm usually thinking like
- 1:02:54I'm an idiot. I'm stupid.
- 1:02:57What? What decisions in life have led
- 1:02:59me to this moment? Facts.
- 1:03:01We're already in this. Yeah, I have to finish it.
- 1:03:04I'm I'm the. Worst I can't tap out, they're
- 1:03:06going to tell me some shit. The 1st 10 minutes, I'm the
- 1:03:08worst, like in my head the whole time.
- 1:03:10I got to quit this. I got to get.
- 1:03:11I got to get out of here, but I can't get out of here because
- 1:03:14they're gonna make fun of me. You know Facts.
- 1:03:16Facts. And so then I just sit there and
- 1:03:18I find a point in the wall and I just stare at it.
- 1:03:21Yeah. And I don't like to look at what
- 1:03:22they're doing. And I don't want to know
- 1:03:23anything. I don't know how much longer
- 1:03:25it's left. Just like, go.
- 1:03:27And you say we're done. I'm like, what?
- 1:03:28We're done. Yeah.
- 1:03:30But I also, like, remind myself, like, OK, be a few hours, a few
- 1:03:35hours from now. As soon as they're done
- 1:03:37tattooing, it's gonna completely stop hurting.
- 1:03:39I'm gonna go home. I'm gonna eat something and
- 1:03:41chill. Like 2 days later you mean.
- 1:03:44Cuz no, for me I feel like you're gonna have like throbbing
- 1:03:47that night. You're gonna have like some the
- 1:03:49shower, the first shower, you're gonna have some stinging, but
- 1:03:51it's not gonna be the same amount.
- 1:03:52It's not gonna be the intensity of pain that when they're
- 1:03:56actually, you know, trying the tattoo so.
- 1:03:58Yeah, I got my, I got my thigh in Egypt and I like, I like to
- 1:04:07get tattoos when I'm traveling too.
- 1:04:09And so I even packed numbing spray and I got there and like
- 1:04:14my tattoo artist, he doesn't speak the best English.
- 1:04:17And he was like, we're not using numbing spray.
- 1:04:20And I was like, oh, why not? And he's like, because it won't
- 1:04:25heal right. And I was like, but I did it on
- 1:04:28my other leg and it was fine. And he was like, that's, that's
- 1:04:33neo traditional. We're not doing that.
- 1:04:34And I'm like, so like we did like I remember like, and I, I
- 1:04:39didn't want to do like 5-4 hours.
- 1:04:42And he's like, no, we're going to do 5-4 hours.
- 1:04:44And I'm like, well, you know, he showed me the design and I was
- 1:04:46like, you're right though, that that does look pretty fire.
- 1:04:48I don't want that tattooed on me.
- 1:04:51And, and so like, I don't know, like 3 minutes, 3 hours.
- 1:04:56And I'm like, please can we use the spray?
- 1:04:59Like I'm about to tap out and I can't come back.
- 1:05:03Like you need to finish this, Like let's use the spray.
- 1:05:06But you know what, I kind of agree with him.
- 1:05:10I shouldn't have used the spray. Really.
- 1:05:12I at this time, like I don't, but also this was my own fault.
- 1:05:16Like I was traveling back that day.
- 1:05:19So I didn't wear the best of clothes and I I I was a dumb
- 1:05:22ass. I did pack all of my stuff but I
- 1:05:24forgot to pack like I should have packed like, you know, the
- 1:05:27second skin and I didn't and it was so cold over there cuz I
- 1:05:32went in February and I ended up wearing like very loose pants.
- 1:05:37But it did kind of stick. And so I mean the flight was
- 1:05:411618 hours. Yeah.
- 1:05:44So I fucked up with that. So it's not, it is healed great,
- 1:05:49but not the best of my other tattoos and that that's on me.
- 1:05:53I've never used numbing cream or spray.
- 1:05:55You didn't I, I did on my calf and I wasn't going to, but like
- 1:06:01because I was in Mexico at that time, I was in Guanajuato and
- 1:06:04they were and I decided to get a tattoo there too because I was
- 1:06:08in Mexico and I was like, I want a tattoo.
- 1:06:12It's like on my calf. I didn't realize that the calf
- 1:06:14is also really painful. I like, I don't know, I wasn't
- 1:06:17expecting that at all. And they ended up using some,
- 1:06:23like it was a foam that had lidocaine in it.
- 1:06:27And I was like, oh, shit, this is nice.
- 1:06:29Like, yeah, go on, go on, go do another two hours.
- 1:06:33I'm down. And so then after that, I was
- 1:06:36like, OK, I can do numbing spray.
- 1:06:38And so I bought some online, but I couldn't find the light, the
- 1:06:41one that they used in Mexico because it's like a Mexico
- 1:06:44brand. So I couldn't get it over here.
- 1:06:46So anyways, I bought something from Amazon.
- 1:06:49Do you use numbing spray? OK, so you guys are cool and you
- 1:06:53drink black coffee. So are you guys judging me right
- 1:06:55now? No, no.
- 1:06:57Remember, we just are unhappy. We hate life, that's why.
- 1:06:59You got to. Feel something?
- 1:07:01You got to feel something. Yeah, Yeah.
- 1:07:04Yeah, your listeners are going to be like these guys.
- 1:07:08Not cool. Not cool, not cool.
- 1:07:11What made you guys hate life so? How old?
- 1:07:15Were you when you started hating life?
- 1:07:16Yeah, what happened? Tell me about your traumatic
- 1:07:18experiences. 2nd grade I was at 9:11.
- 1:07:23Well. I think I wasn't.
- 1:07:25I think I was too in second grade.
- 1:07:28Yeah, his birthday's September 12th, so it kind of stole the
- 1:07:31matter of that year. That's what started it.
- 1:07:33I was so excited for my birthday.
- 1:07:34I never had a birthday party again.
- 1:07:37Mine's Christmas Eve, so I've just been jaded my whole life.
- 1:07:40Your birthday's Christmas Eve. Yeah.
- 1:07:42Damn. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:07:45That's where the autism started. Yeah, well, I think it was the
- 1:07:48Ziploc bag. We said his dad was a sperm
- 1:07:52downer. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:07:54He's like 50% Ziploc. I keep telling him he needs to
- 1:08:00in the micro plastics before he needs to hit him up about some
- 1:08:03child support. You should.
- 1:08:05You should. Ziploc it's like one of those
- 1:08:08Reddit posts that just like goes viral, I feel like but yeah,
- 1:08:12Ziploc bag so. Wait, did your mom know this?
- 1:08:17I'm. Sorry, Mom.
- 1:08:21I'm sorry, can't you say this? I don't know.
- 1:08:23I you said nothing's off limits. I'm so sorry.
- 1:08:26So my mom worked with my dad at Brenado Fan company back in the
- 1:08:31day. And my mom knew my uncle and his
- 1:08:36boyfriend from just like the gay scene, gay bars and stuff like
- 1:08:39that, and asked my uncle to ask my dad if he'd be willing to
- 1:08:46become a, a donor. Yeah.
- 1:08:48And he had already had two kids and was, I think, divorced or
- 1:08:52separated at the time. But yeah, I after, I guess some
- 1:08:56conversations, but I only took two tries and they never, like,
- 1:09:00slept together or anything like that.
- 1:09:02Ziploc bag. And yeah, not the way I
- 1:09:04expected, but yeah. Feel like this needs to be a
- 1:09:06Mythbusters. I have a sense.
- 1:09:08Of it does it is kind of it's kind of crazy so.
- 1:09:12Yeah, my upbringing was just a little different, you know?
- 1:09:14Did you, Did you know him? I met him, went off 6.
- 1:09:17OK. And was that weird for you?
- 1:09:20Oh yeah, I was Ziploc or your dad.
- 1:09:23He's your. Mom kept the Ziploc.
- 1:09:28Man, like this is your dad. This is the one I used.
- 1:09:33Oh. Shit.
- 1:09:34In the frame. On this wall, the bedroom is.
- 1:09:35In your baby book shit. This is the part that's going to
- 1:09:41get clipped. This is what I'm posting on
- 1:09:45social media. I fucking hope this is a good
- 1:09:47angle. Let me scoot back.
- 1:09:51You better. Maybe there's more of you out
- 1:09:56there, dude. Maybe.
- 1:10:00Yeah, I, I'm in one of six. I remember I spent the night at
- 1:10:03like, a friend's house or something like that.
- 1:10:04And I came home. My mom was like, hey, there's
- 1:10:06someone here to meet you. And it was my dad and his wife
- 1:10:08and her son and their kids their head together.
- 1:10:12And and then I shortly met my older brother and sister
- 1:10:19afterwards and like, Hey, we have a surprise for you.
- 1:10:21And they thought my step mom was pregnant, but they're like no,
- 1:10:23here's a six year old and but like been around my whole.
- 1:10:28So you just got hella bombs? Yeah, my, my whole dad's side of
- 1:10:31the family didn't know I existed, and I didn't meet half
- 1:10:33of them until I was 18. They still didn't know I
- 1:10:34existed. Right.
- 1:10:35Yeah, yeah. Because they probably, I imagine
- 1:10:39that they didn't know whether or not to like or OK, like he's
- 1:10:44probably like, OK, I donated sperm.
- 1:10:47But that's different from like, being a dad, right?
- 1:10:50So my mom, my mom was like, you can, you can be around if you're
- 1:10:55going to be around kind of thing.
- 1:10:57Oh, fair. No, that's yeah.
- 1:10:59He just was unsure and then, yeah, he wanted to come into my
- 1:11:02life and then I met him when I was 6.
- 1:11:05So yeah, but. Damn, bro, so that's when you
- 1:11:10started hating me 18 when you met the rest of the fucked up
- 1:11:17fam. You know, family is hard, man.
- 1:11:22It's it's hard to fuck. Yeah.
- 1:11:25Generational trauma is for real. Yeah.
- 1:11:28Yeah, shut a lot of doors. You got a lot of shut doors.
- 1:11:32And you guys are just typical white boys over here that didn't
- 1:11:36have any of that or you did I? Don't.
- 1:11:39Know oh yours was like that your mom used black pepper when you
- 1:11:42asked for something else that black.
- 1:11:44Pepper. Was kind of fucked up.
- 1:11:46I'm one of five boys. So oh shit, I.
- 1:11:50Don't know, just a big family. OK, 0 Generational trauma.
- 1:11:55Yeah. Normal.
- 1:11:57Yeah. Stealing the land.
- 1:11:58They're all normal. All good.
- 1:12:02So I think that Caleb's family, like they didn't steal anyway.
- 1:12:05I think his family were just like very have always been very
- 1:12:08good people. Oh, OK.
- 1:12:09It's cannon. The Porters have never stole
- 1:12:11land. They are all genetically just
- 1:12:15like great athletes, great athletes have all done super
- 1:12:19well. And I'm like, man, you got good
- 1:12:21karma in your family. You guys took care of people.
- 1:12:23So my parents, I was born in Seattle and they were like, we
- 1:12:27should not have 5 boys in the city of Seattle in the 90s.
- 1:12:32So we're going to move into Kansas and put them on five
- 1:12:34acres and. Oh shit, yeah, that's a.
- 1:12:36Good. Like just they can go outside
- 1:12:39and not and just fight each other.
- 1:12:41No, I think, I think that's, I think that's a good plan for
- 1:12:44sure. I could.
- 1:12:44I grew up, I grew up in a ranch. So like, yeah.
- 1:12:48Nothing to do. There is nothing to do, but as a
- 1:12:51kid, there is everything to do. You know what I mean?
- 1:12:54Like, your imagination just really takes you everywhere and
- 1:12:58like, because you're having to take care.
- 1:12:59Well, I don't know. Like, it sounds like you grew up
- 1:13:01around agriculture. We did the thing where we didn't
- 1:13:06do the agriculture. OK, someone else like rented
- 1:13:09the. Yeah, you're a rich rich.
- 1:13:11You're that? Type of white.
- 1:13:13No, no. My parents were teachers and.
- 1:13:19Yeah, it was so not rich, poor teachers.
- 1:13:21Yeah, yeah. We we knew not to ask for
- 1:13:24anything. OK, fair, fair.
- 1:13:26But what I'm saying is then. I just went outside.
- 1:13:28But either way, you had like access to the tools and I don't
- 1:13:33know, like I remember just like for me at least like like.
- 1:13:36We mow the lawn. But we would use a lawn mower to
- 1:13:39like, yeah, that's my play, other things.
- 1:13:41That's my trauma is my dad made me mow the lawn with a push
- 1:13:46mower before self propel and it took me all day.
- 1:13:50Yeah, and the grass is like 3 Pi.
- 1:13:52Oh shit. So when I bought my house here
- 1:13:54in Wichita, I bought a lawnmower that is a push mower and it's
- 1:13:58not self prepare propel. But I again grew up on a ranch
- 1:14:02so we had a sit down mower. I did not know how to fucking
- 1:14:05turn that thing on. Like I I didn't know how to use
- 1:14:08the like the push mowers. Like I had to have a friend come
- 1:14:12over. I thought you meant.
- 1:14:14I thought you meant the blade or the like.
- 1:14:15The motorless ones like the ones you.
- 1:14:17Literally just no, no, no, no, no, no, no 'cause there's
- 1:14:20actually some that are like that that will like they just start
- 1:14:24moving. But there's some that like,
- 1:14:26yeah, they're not. They don't just like go by
- 1:14:29themselves. What was your trauma?
- 1:14:34These are the questions for the I don't know.
- 1:14:36I had like just the most normal, average life that a person can
- 1:14:40have. I'm.
- 1:14:40So there's no Netflix documentary about him?
- 1:14:42Yeah, that was great, man. Were you bullied?
- 1:14:51We talked about this. Yeah, we did talk about this the
- 1:14:53other day. No, not that I remember.
- 1:14:55I yeah, just. Like you were the kid that like
- 1:14:59stood by while your friend got bullied and you were like,
- 1:15:01hopefully it didn't come back. To me.
- 1:15:04Yeah, man, get him. No.
- 1:15:09I think the most interesting thing, and I can't really
- 1:15:13explain this, but like, I love dogs.
- 1:15:14Like dogs are just like my favorite thing.
- 1:15:17Yeah, but when I was a kid I got like bit really bad by a dog,
- 1:15:20like in the face. What really where?
- 1:15:23So there you don't see it because I have the I have facial
- 1:15:25hair, but I have a scar underneath here.
- 1:15:27Damn. And like it's just not
- 1:15:29explainable Like I should hate dogs.
- 1:15:31I should have that but like for whatever reason I just I.
- 1:15:34Didn't think I bitten the face by a dog.
- 1:15:35Yeah, I got bitten in the face by a.
- 1:15:36Dog OK, Everything has happened to you?
- 1:15:39Yeah. Like that wasn't that year I got
- 1:15:42bit by a spider and the eye injury.
- 1:15:45Oh my God, what karma did you put out in the world?
- 1:15:50I think it was my teenage years. I was just.
- 1:15:54Sparrow. Yeah, no respect.
- 1:15:56Yeah, no. Respect at all twerking on
- 1:15:58tables. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:16:01I imagine Andrew twerking. On I don't.
- 1:16:05Have to imagine it. I've got videos, yeah.
- 1:16:09My type of people. My type of people.
- 1:16:11That's funny. Joe and I were just run around
- 1:16:14acting crazy. Wait, so you and Joe, like, go
- 1:16:17way back? We've been best friends of
- 1:16:19Jackass since like 10. We met in 6th grade, so 10 or
- 1:16:2311? Yeah, we've been best friends
- 1:16:24since since then. Oh shit, I didn't know that.
- 1:16:27I think he when I texted him about you, I think he said, Oh
- 1:16:31yeah, my best friend and then I just like overlooked it and I
- 1:16:34said anyways, send me his number.
- 1:16:36Give. Me the juicy deets.
- 1:16:39And I'm like I'm trying to get them.
- 1:16:42He's he's like one of those guys that, you know, liked playing
- 1:16:48with fire and then grew up to put them out, you know, So we
- 1:16:51did a lot of dumb stuff as a kid there as kids and just just good
- 1:16:56time. I don't regret any of this fun.
- 1:16:57Yeah. Good thing Ring doorbells didn't
- 1:16:59exist back then, you know? OK, you're going to have to
- 1:17:03spill one. It can be PG if you want.
- 1:17:08OK. This is a.
- 1:17:11This is a really funny story. So one time we were rolling
- 1:17:16around and our friend had like a little 4 door sedan and we're
- 1:17:22driving by some apartments and they had like a wacky inflatable
- 1:17:25our man out there. And I think we're like 16 or so
- 1:17:28and we jump out of the vehicle, there's like four of us and we
- 1:17:33unplug the generator, wind it up or twirl up the the inflatable
- 1:17:38and we put it in his trunk and the generator won't fit in the
- 1:17:41car. And then the property manager
- 1:17:43starts running after us and we all get in the car and drive off
- 1:17:48except for one of us. Yeah.
- 1:17:49And he was always like, I can't hang out with you guys cuz we'll
- 1:17:53get in trouble, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:17:55He's like, you guys are too crazy.
- 1:17:56It was the one that got left behind.
- 1:17:58Shit. And.
- 1:17:59You guys said all right, fuck you then.
- 1:18:01Yeah, he calls us and he's like, hey, they won't call the cops if
- 1:18:04you bring back the inflatable. So we'd like hostage negotiated.
- 1:18:10Our friend back. Like, you send him over first,
- 1:18:12you know, and in the parking lot of the apartment complex, which
- 1:18:18I feel like nowadays, they just call the cops on you.
- 1:18:19They wouldn't feel that, you know?
- 1:18:21Yeah. So.
- 1:18:22I did have some kids when I lived in McPherson because we
- 1:18:24used to, you know, typical like egg and TP houses where like 14.
- 1:18:30Yeah, yeah. I thought it was funny.
- 1:18:31And I had some kids in McPherson.
- 1:18:34They're all standing in my driveway.
- 1:18:35And when I pulled up one time and there's like some neon, you
- 1:18:39know, marker or something in my driveway and I seemed like Chuck
- 1:18:42something and they all scurried off.
- 1:18:44And I like, walked to the end of my driveway after pulling in and
- 1:18:49they said fuck you. And it was like written in
- 1:18:52chalk. And like the chalk was just like
- 1:18:54in my neighbor's yard that that's what they threw.
- 1:18:57And my wife's like, are you gonna do anything?
- 1:19:00You're gonna wipe that off or you're gonna like, do anything?
- 1:19:01I was like, no, that's awesome. I was like, I'm just thankful it
- 1:19:05wasn't spray paint, you know, like, because it would have been
- 1:19:07spray paint if it were us when we were 14.
- 1:19:10You know, but. It was pretty funny.
- 1:19:13You're like, damn, they didn't think it through.
- 1:19:15I was like, they still got it, but they could have done better.
- 1:19:17Yeah, yeah, that reminds me of the time that you guys stole
- 1:19:20that rug. Yeah, yeah, Some friends and I,
- 1:19:24we would. It was right after high school,
- 1:19:27we would go to Buffalo Wild Wings every Tuesday for their
- 1:19:30Wings special. We became regulars, got to know
- 1:19:33the servers, the waitresses, whatever.
- 1:19:36And they would like service alcohol underage too.
- 1:19:39Buffalo. Wild Wings.
- 1:19:41But like we would, we would bring the business like it'd be
- 1:19:44like 5 to like 8 of us mobbing up for wings and you know, we
- 1:19:49would tip well. So they took care of us.
- 1:19:51And tip well for teenagers. Yeah.
- 1:19:54How'd you have money? We I don't.
- 1:19:57We all were. Well, they're selling rugs.
- 1:19:58They're. Selling.
- 1:20:00Rugs so one day after. That's he actually uses that
- 1:20:04term all the time. We No, I'm serious.
- 1:20:06We. We decided that we wanted that
- 1:20:09Buffalo wild rings logo rug and we devised the plan like, all
- 1:20:14right, you walk out first, you give it a kick, I'm right behind
- 1:20:16you. I give it the second kick out
- 1:20:17that door that we scoop it up and run out the door.
- 1:20:20And that's exactly what we did. He devised this plan for months.
- 1:20:24Thought we got away with it. No, it was like a week.
- 1:20:27Thought we got away with it and then the next thing we came back
- 1:20:29like you guys stole that rug, didn't you?
- 1:20:30Like what are you talking about? No, we didn't.
- 1:20:31We got you on camera. That's not me.
- 1:20:36We got you kicking it, then you kicking it again.
- 1:20:38Did you have to bring it back? No, my friend kept it and I
- 1:20:43guess a few years ago I finally like disintegrated because I was
- 1:20:47back in like 2005. Dusty's old like. 20 years and.
- 1:20:54Statute of limitations is. Old, yeah.
- 1:20:57You're welcome back at Buffalo Wild Wings now.
- 1:20:59Yep. Yep.
- 1:21:02Mm, Hmm. Yep.
- 1:21:02My younger sister actually ended up working at that one like she
- 1:21:05did many years later. Yeah.
- 1:21:07Amber. When she got embarrassed we all
- 1:21:10went to go eat there and I bring my little thing of sticky rice
- 1:21:14to eat with the wings. I love that.
- 1:21:17It's like when you have a picky kid that doesn't eat the
- 1:21:19restaurant you're eating at, so you bring a McDonald's.
- 1:21:21Yeah. And I was like.
- 1:21:22Hey, take this back to the back and warm up the rice for me.
- 1:21:24And she's like, are you serious? Like, yeah, I'm serious.
- 1:21:28Eat down. On these wings, that's like me
- 1:21:30at like Korean barbecue and I'm like, can we put some tortillas
- 1:21:33on this grill Cause like, come on.
- 1:21:38Yeah, that's that's where you need pocket.
- 1:21:40Yes, exactly. Exactly.
- 1:21:42Because the Koreans don't like spicy food either.
- 1:21:45Yeah, like I've had. Not really.
- 1:21:48That spicy bowl. Goat like a spicy pork and
- 1:21:51stuff. I got yeah, spicy.
- 1:21:52Snacks made it from his shoes into the.
- 1:21:54Different kind of spice. Different kind.
- 1:21:56Yeah. Well, yeah.
- 1:21:57I feel like Thai food is pretty spicy though.
- 1:21:58Go. Chu Chang.
- 1:22:00Yeah, yeah, because I've had, I've had Thai barbecue and
- 1:22:04that's better because like Thai BBQ.
- 1:22:06Yeah. Because imagine, like, do you
- 1:22:07guys eat Thai food? Oh yeah, I was trying.
- 1:22:09To eat the. Other tonight yeah so imagine
- 1:22:11papaya salad with the BBQ like you know fire because like it's
- 1:22:15hot and then you have the BBQ like good like I feel like
- 1:22:20Korean BBQ is always just missing some type of salsa
- 1:22:23personally and the tortillas but like I tell myself I'm being.
- 1:22:27Where is your Korean BBQ spot in town?
- 1:22:29Which there's like. Two of them I really, I like
- 1:22:34gingham. Yeah, I fuck with them.
- 1:22:36Yeah, yeah, K paw is OK to me. Like I wouldn't say K.
- 1:22:43Paw, if you want to eat a lot, is the place to go, yeah.
- 1:22:46Yeah. But.
- 1:22:49Yeah, yeah, I like the seasoning better at Gingham.
- 1:22:52Yeah. What's your guys's favorite Thai
- 1:22:55restaurant? Tutton.
- 1:22:58We were literally there. I love 2.
- 1:23:01Nights ago. Yeah, we went there.
- 1:23:02People are so nice, their food is so good.
- 1:23:05I tried. I tried to go to the West side
- 1:23:06location today but my sister wasn't feeling it so.
- 1:23:10Yeah, I've been there once. It's it's small.
- 1:23:13So it's more of like carry out, but they have like two or three
- 1:23:17tables in there if you want to dine and you can.
- 1:23:20They have the best like just to go food I get you get it and
- 1:23:25it's still like piping hot. Yeah.
- 1:23:28The American in me like loves that place cuz the portions are
- 1:23:31so big. Where I'm like.
- 1:23:33I feel like I'm really getting my value there.
- 1:23:35So yeah, no, I agree with that. Yeah, cuz I can make 2 servings
- 1:23:38of. That and it's freaking
- 1:23:40delicious. So it is.
- 1:23:41Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:23:42And it you're like, Nah, you like the McPherson food.
- 1:23:47No, he's. A little too spicy.
- 1:23:49He looks he's a He's a black pepper tap hispat I.
- 1:23:53Was I was debating if I wanted to, if I wanted to push back on
- 1:23:56Teptum or not because I love Teptum but.
- 1:23:58Thai tradition. Thai tradition, I think it's,
- 1:24:01it's different. I think it's good, but I think
- 1:24:03the environment is what is what I like the most about it.
- 1:24:05Like it feels like you're in somebody's living room, and I
- 1:24:08like that. Thai tradition is the one that's
- 1:24:10on Central. Central and Woodlawn.
- 1:24:13Central, Yeah, yeah, OK. Yeah, I'd like that one.
- 1:24:15Yeah, it is. To me, it's like you're in the
- 1:24:19living room. Yeah, like it feels cozy and
- 1:24:22like homey in there just cuz there's like.
- 1:24:23Is it all the pictures of their family?
- 1:24:26Maybe. No, I don't know.
- 1:24:28I think it's the lighting. It's like real dim and I think,
- 1:24:30yeah. And like a lot of wood.
- 1:24:31I picture there being carpet. I don't know.
- 1:24:33If there's there is carpet, there is carpet.
- 1:24:35Like, yeah, yeah. And they definitely have that,
- 1:24:38like the mirror wall that your grandma would have.
- 1:24:42Yeah. They do like little.
- 1:24:44Knacks, Yeah. They do, yeah.
- 1:24:46There you go. Yeah, well, I was going to say
- 1:24:49like, I don't know about like living room, but now that you're
- 1:24:52now that we're saying all that, yeah, 'cause like they're,
- 1:24:56they're tables. It has a glass over it, I think.
- 1:24:59Right. I think so.
- 1:25:00Yeah, so it does feel a little homey 'cause like, I mean at my
- 1:25:05house or like grandma's house, I wouldn't have glass over, but
- 1:25:07there would be like some other type of plastic over it to
- 1:25:12conserve the table. And that is very old school.
- 1:25:16Like that's a grandma type of thing.
- 1:25:18Yeah. OK, I see it.
- 1:25:20I see it. Yeah.
- 1:25:22What else? Where do you, where do you guys
- 1:25:23like to go? Besides good company, right?
- 1:25:26You guys aren't even saying your places.
- 1:25:29Yeah, our places are great. They're good.
- 1:25:33I feel like we've gone other places in different cities and
- 1:25:39we're like, why doesn't Wichita have stuff like this?
- 1:25:42And that's why we opened up our businesses.
- 1:25:45Prime, prime example, last weekend we went to Bentonville.
- 1:25:49Just just traveling around the city, you're like, man, Wichita
- 1:25:51could be really great. And, you know, we heard it a lot
- 1:25:55in McPherson. Even that's boring or there's
- 1:25:59nothing to do. And I think that you can either
- 1:26:00live with that mentality or you could be a part of the solution.
- 1:26:04Yeah. And give things for people to
- 1:26:06do. And I love Wichita.
- 1:26:09I've always loved Wichita. And it's definitely a lot bigger
- 1:26:13than when, you know, I was a kid.
- 1:26:15And there's, there's a ton more to do, you know, and that's the
- 1:26:21reason, you know, places go under go out of businesses
- 1:26:24because people don't go support those businesses.
- 1:26:26And so, you know, instead of complaining about it, just.
- 1:26:31Go share a. Solution.
- 1:26:32Yeah, show up for them. My wife and I first moved here.
- 1:26:36Like everywhere we went, we would talk to people and they
- 1:26:38would be like, this place sucks, Wichita sucks.
- 1:26:41And I was like, Dang, do we make a mistake?
- 1:26:44Yeah, like we just bought a house here.
- 1:26:46We're planning on staying here. Yeah.
- 1:26:49And we're excited to be here. And then after a while, I was
- 1:26:52like, you know what? Fuck that.
- 1:26:54Like it's gonna have to take people.
- 1:26:57To show. Up, yeah, from the outside.
- 1:26:59And I feel like that's true. In the last 10 years, I feel
- 1:27:02like there's been just a lot more support for Wichita as
- 1:27:05well. Like just with like specialties,
- 1:27:07local business. Yeah, it's really cool to see.
- 1:27:11Yeah, because I'm not from. Like Belmont Open Larchers and
- 1:27:16Fiorito, like all those businesses right along Douglas
- 1:27:19there coffee days, yeah, like yeah, versus when we first moved
- 1:27:24here, there was it didn't feel like there was very much.
- 1:27:27Yeah, I've been in Wichita too for now probably 10-9 years.
- 1:27:32And I would agree. Like I feel like when I first
- 1:27:35moved though, there was like a lot of entrepreneurship stuff,
- 1:27:38like there was a lot of like small businesses opening. 2.
- 1:27:411016 yeah yeah yeah because that's that's when I moved and
- 1:27:46but then like I started to notice like this decline like at
- 1:27:49first I was really drawn to the fact that people were supportive
- 1:27:52and then I didn't notice a decline too I.
- 1:27:54Think the pandemic had a part in that?
- 1:27:55Yeah. Yeah, it was really hard.
- 1:27:57I mean, we are lucky we survived the pandemic.
- 1:28:02You know, I've seen a lot of businesses that I love to kind
- 1:28:04of go under or just they never fully recovered.
- 1:28:08But I feel like we're just now starting to see some of that
- 1:28:13same energy like in in the city. Yeah, happen.
- 1:28:18It's it really sucks when you see a business go in like, man,
- 1:28:21I love this place. Yeah.
- 1:28:23Foods really good or, you know, for restaurant or clothing store
- 1:28:25or whatever. Yeah.
- 1:28:26And they don't make it. Yeah.
- 1:28:28And that really sucks because I think as business owners, you
- 1:28:32know, like you're really putting yourself out there and it's
- 1:28:37scary. It's very scary, yeah.
- 1:28:39And so there's a little bit of like, I know, I know your pain
- 1:28:44almost like I know what it what it could feel like, but yeah,
- 1:28:49just sucks to see places go under Yeah.
- 1:28:52I also love to see places grow. That's like super exciting.
- 1:28:56Well, in a way, you guys are growing.
- 1:28:58Yeah. Like you guys have like.
- 1:29:00No, seriously, though. Like you guys went from
- 1:29:02Revolution down to Old Town. No, not Old Town, Delino.
- 1:29:08Thank you. Yeah.
- 1:29:09So, like, that's a big deal, you know?
- 1:29:12Yeah, very. Big jump.
- 1:29:13Yeah, and it all of it was, I mean, we've had huge learning
- 1:29:17experiences where we've made big mistakes that, I don't know, you
- 1:29:22just you just keep that locked in the back of your mind.
- 1:29:26You're like, I that sucked and that was really hard, but I know
- 1:29:32now that you know, also just like learning to trust your gut.
- 1:29:38More. Too.
- 1:29:39And I feel like there's things early on where things would come
- 1:29:43up and you just want to say yes or you want to do it because you
- 1:29:46don't want to miss an opportunity versus is it the
- 1:29:49right time for the opportunity. And sometimes you just have to
- 1:29:54be patient and wait, pass things up.
- 1:29:55So, yeah, just recently we've had multiple opportunities where
- 1:30:01people have called us out of the blue and asked us to do
- 1:30:04something and we go and look at it.
- 1:30:06And the three of us now like kind of can really look at each
- 1:30:11other and trust each other and be like, yeah, that's, that
- 1:30:15would be awesome if we did that. But I think we have, we have
- 1:30:21been through so much that we've kind of downsized over the last.
- 1:30:26We've grown, but we've also downsized.
- 1:30:28Like we. Like staff wise, Like even
- 1:30:31business wise. And the amount of stuff.
- 1:30:33Like, we're constantly saying yes to everything because we
- 1:30:36didn't want to miss out on stuff and we wanted to survive too,
- 1:30:39you know, fear of, like, you know, the business not
- 1:30:42surviving. Yeah.
- 1:30:43So like at one point we had we had two Barber shops, we had two
- 1:30:48cocktail bars and a coffee shop and we were doing offsite stuff
- 1:30:51every day. And we had the roastery at
- 1:30:52McPherson. Shit, yeah.
- 1:30:54So like, you're burning out. Yeah.
- 1:30:56And so that taught us like, wow, we're, we're doing so much that
- 1:31:00we're doing everything kind of like average.
- 1:31:03Instead of Yeah. Instead of really being able to
- 1:31:06focus in. And so that's why like we closed
- 1:31:09the revolution bar cuz we're like, we moved to Delano because
- 1:31:12this was gonna be, this is supposed to be like a long term
- 1:31:15space for us. Like we have to be OK with
- 1:31:18letting go of something that taught us a lot.
- 1:31:21And letting go of like that little bar was awesome.
- 1:31:23Like I love it. I wish it was still open, but
- 1:31:26it, it was too much for us. It was too much for a manager is
- 1:31:31it was just a lot trying to operate both.
- 1:31:33And it's just us three. We don't have investors.
- 1:31:38So just like. Right, right.
- 1:31:40That's what you guys were saying.
- 1:31:41Having like just the, the bottomless paycheck, it just
- 1:31:45like doesn't exist for us. Like we're, no, it's just us.
- 1:31:49Yeah, well, I mean, shit, yeah. You got a Ziploc got.
- 1:31:52A Ziploc. Dad and you got a teacher dad
- 1:31:56and then you got what type of dad?
- 1:32:00County, just county County worker.
- 1:32:02OK. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:32:04I mean. School system mom, County
- 1:32:06worker, dad. I mean, also shout out to all of
- 1:32:08them. Shout out to all of them, but I
- 1:32:10mean, like we're talking about like don't got shit ton of
- 1:32:13money, Yeah. We don't come from money.
- 1:32:15Yeah, yeah. But yeah, it's been tons of a
- 1:32:23lot of learning experiences and it's been, I feel like if you
- 1:32:29would have interviewed us a year ago today, we would be in a
- 1:32:32completely different mindset and just emotional spot than we are.
- 1:32:37Like now we're sleeping. We're not the year goes very
- 1:32:42draining. Yeah, it.
- 1:32:43Was. It was hard because we, we were,
- 1:32:49we had like just moved, we moved over to Delano in February, but
- 1:32:52then we spent the next four to five months getting the good,
- 1:32:56good companies section opened. And then like it was just, yeah,
- 1:33:00it was just so much trying to do both.
- 1:33:03And in the meantime, we had another Barber shop that we
- 1:33:06ended up selling off by the end of the year because, yeah, that
- 1:33:08one was just Caleb and I. So that was kind of like a, you
- 1:33:12know, him and I are are having to deal with that while him and
- 1:33:15I and Nick are having to deal with all the other stuff.
- 1:33:19You know, we're building our lives here now and no longer
- 1:33:22living in McPherson. So I was at the point where I
- 1:33:25was only there one day a week and then it became every other
- 1:33:28one day a week. And so like, I'd show up to the
- 1:33:31shop and just, I was like, well, this isn't the shop that I want.
- 1:33:35Things that are happening here is not what a true
- 1:33:36representation of, you know, what we want as a brand.
- 1:33:40And so we have had to have the conversation of like, this is
- 1:33:42our home base. This is where we started.
- 1:33:45This is the reason why we have everything that we have now.
- 1:33:49And are we doing more of a disservice to ourselves and to
- 1:33:53the community by keeping this open and it not being what it
- 1:33:56once was? Or do we continue trying?
- 1:34:00And yeah, how much my wife is pregnant and Andrew had, I don't
- 1:34:06know, a six month old at that point.
- 1:34:08And yeah, it was just like, well, how much more energy are
- 1:34:10we willing to put into this? Yeah.
- 1:34:12So it's really like a learning experience of learning how to
- 1:34:18like, yeah, necessary things like learning when to let go.
- 1:34:21And so we sold that shop in November and then we sold the
- 1:34:26building in December and or January 1, I can't remember what
- 1:34:31it was. But anyway, and now I've just
- 1:34:35been chilling. Yeah.
- 1:34:37Now we've been focusing on this business here and.
- 1:34:40But it really has been growing a lot.
- 1:34:41I mean, you guys are doing Vinyl night, You guys are starting to
- 1:34:44open more. That's been really fun to see go
- 1:34:48from, like it'd be like a Thursday night last fall and we
- 1:34:51had five people in the bar on a on a Thursday.
- 1:34:54Yeah. Now you go in and we expect to
- 1:34:58be busy. Yeah.
- 1:34:59And our bartenders expect to be busy and it's a good time too.
- 1:35:03It's a completely different atmosphere throughout the rest
- 1:35:05of the week. And so it's just a different
- 1:35:10experience, like good company experience, yeah.
- 1:35:13Literally. Connect over music and like the
- 1:35:17food and the cocktails are like almost secondary for the night.
- 1:35:20And yeah, it's a lot of fun. We've been able to meet a lot of
- 1:35:24new people. That way.
- 1:35:26Yeah, cuz I've seen that you guys also will have like other
- 1:35:28creatives or other like barbers too that will go and like bring
- 1:35:33in their their own vinyls or right like their.
- 1:35:36Bring in like their own community with them, like their
- 1:35:40own friends and family that have never been in the space before
- 1:35:42and. Yeah, this, this.
- 1:35:43Place is cool, like I'm gonna come back.
- 1:35:45Yeah, you. Know we've been able to.
- 1:35:48We did like some collaborations with Little Saigon and
- 1:35:52Mamacitos. Yes, we we went to, we went to
- 1:35:55that one. That one was crazy.
- 1:35:56That was crazy it. Was hella packed.
- 1:35:59It was packed. My wife was.
- 1:36:02I think she's out of town that week.
- 1:36:03My wife was in labor. Yeah.
- 1:36:05Yeah, I. Swung in, got me a little bommy.
- 1:36:07That's right. So half.
- 1:36:09Of our stuff. Half.
- 1:36:10Of our stuff. She's over at like the hospital
- 1:36:14and you're like. The house just like.
- 1:36:17Sorry, half of your staff so. Half of our staff and I'm
- 1:36:20getting the flu and fuck I ended up getting the flu.
- 1:36:24My daughter got the flu that night so I I enjoyed it but it
- 1:36:28didn't last long. That was a rough night because
- 1:36:33it was awesome, but then everyone got sick so we.
- 1:36:36Didn't get sick. Well, like, just just just staph
- 1:36:38I like with the flu. Yeah.
- 1:36:39Weird. It was rampant for a while there
- 1:36:41in the shop. It was February.
- 1:36:43Yeah. It was, yeah.
- 1:36:45It was February, Yeah. That was fun.
- 1:36:46There was so many people that were there, friends of Steve or
- 1:36:52friends of Ros at Mamacitas and like they had never been in
- 1:36:56before. Yeah.
- 1:36:58Yeah, yeah. It's been really fun to do
- 1:36:59collaborations with other businesses.
- 1:37:02Yeah, like we just did one with Manhattan Brewing.
- 1:37:06Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, I saw that one.
- 1:37:07Which is just one of those other opportunities where it's just
- 1:37:11like, wow, I never would have imagined, you know, So we got a
- 1:37:14a coffee stout with them. It's really good.
- 1:37:19That's been one thing that I've noticed over the last couple of
- 1:37:22years that I've really enjoyed is the small business community
- 1:37:27in Wichita are working together a lot more.
- 1:37:30Yes, I've noticed that too a lot.
- 1:37:33Not doing this weird like I'm like keep my business over here
- 1:37:37you keep your business thing because it's done like you don't
- 1:37:39if you do that, if you have that mentality like you are just
- 1:37:42setting the city and everyone up to have 0 variety yeah and it's
- 1:37:47like variety is what keep keeps people open having having two
- 1:37:50businesses that you love work together it's like having two
- 1:37:52friends from different friend groups meet each other and then
- 1:37:55they become friends you're. Like, yeah, yeah, they.
- 1:37:57Never talk to you again. Yeah, and then you get excluded
- 1:37:59then. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:38:01So is that you? No, it's me.
- 1:38:05Yeah, we talk about Spider Man all day.
- 1:38:08Exclusively. Exclusively.
- 1:38:10Exclusively we have a dream date.
- 1:38:12With each other. What's the dream date?
- 1:38:14So we're gonna lift together. Yeah, we're.
- 1:38:17Gonna watch Spider man Tomobar Spider man 1 through three.
- 1:38:21OK. And then what was the dinner
- 1:38:24we're gonna have? We're gonna make fettuccine.
- 1:38:26Yeah, we're gonna make fettuccine.
- 1:38:28Oh shit, that's very, that's a good ass date.
- 1:38:31Why don't you want to invite Caleb?
- 1:38:33I keep asking well. That's a good question, right?
- 1:38:36He needs to bring up Spider Man a little bit more on his own.
- 1:38:39Yeah, fair, you know. Yeah, he talks too much about
- 1:38:42Batman. Yeah, I'm just my own, my own
- 1:38:45world. Yeah.
- 1:38:46He's just always like business this, business that.
- 1:38:49Meanwhile, I'm sending Nick memes about how much I love him.
- 1:38:52I'm really thinking about be pleasure.
- 1:38:55Fair, fair. I follow the only thing I fought
- 1:38:58in A Knight's Tale. I just see.
- 1:39:00This still a movie too though. Yeah, it still is great.
- 1:39:03Yeah, I get this. Nick's fan page My algorithm all
- 1:39:09the time. Nick's fan page.
- 1:39:10Yeah, and so I just send him all the memes about how Nick's
- 1:39:14awesome. It's not me personally, yeah,
- 1:39:16it's just the general Nick. Just to be in hate that.
- 1:39:18Sounds dope though. Andrew Hate?
- 1:39:20Yeah. I've never once seen you hate.
- 1:39:24He did. Boy, one time, actually.
- 1:39:26There's a lot of Andrew hate out there.
- 1:39:27Yeah. The name sounds like it could be
- 1:39:30kind of dickish. Yeah.
- 1:39:33There is an Andrew who rhymes with hate that kind of sucks.
- 1:39:37Oh yeah. Top G top G, top GI Don't.
- 1:39:41Know that. Is they?
- 1:39:43Did they? Did they did name a hurricane
- 1:39:46after Andrew back in the early 90s?
- 1:39:48It was devastating. Oh, really It?
- 1:39:49Was. Devastating, Devastating for all
- 1:39:51Andrews. I've never recovered.
- 1:39:54Yeah damn dude. You've always been set up for
- 1:39:56failure though. Always.
- 1:39:58Like fuck zip lock hurricane, like what the fuck?
- 1:40:02The Ziploc was a show of resilience.
- 1:40:05Yeah, that's true. Yeah, you overcame a lot of odds
- 1:40:08in that one. Yeah, you did.
- 1:40:09I bet the odds are real slim. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:40:15I got stories, they're just not podcast friendly.
- 1:40:20The next one, it's books. It's book worthy you.
- 1:40:22Know it's Burke worthy. Book Yeah.
- 1:40:24Twerk, Burke. My bad, I can't, I can't speak
- 1:40:27English is hard. Yeah, no, it's.
- 1:40:30OK, that is Andrew's best quality, though, is like, he
- 1:40:34always has a story and he always has.
- 1:40:36He's like a walking jukebox and like you don't know he's going
- 1:40:39to be humming a song and there is no telling what song it is or
- 1:40:43what genre it comes from. It just is.
- 1:40:45It's a random one on a random day and then it gets stuck in my
- 1:40:48head the rest of the day. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:40:50OK. So what's your go to genres?
- 1:40:54Right now it's different. It's weird.
- 1:40:55I go through phases like but right now it's like been a lot
- 1:40:59of metal. Like 90s?
- 1:41:01Like who? So I just do like a Spotify like
- 1:41:06for you, OK. You can just curious it.
- 1:41:08For me when I was a divorced dad Rock, Yeah, well, that's kind of
- 1:41:11like butt rockish, but it'll be like Deftones or like Metallica
- 1:41:15Throne in there or like Patera or something like that.
- 1:41:19Yeah, OK. You.
- 1:41:21Yeah, I switch it up too. It's kind of, I'm a seasonal
- 1:41:24music listener, so it changes with the seasons.
- 1:41:26But like, I stumbled upon this, I don't know what you would call
- 1:41:30it. It's like kind of like a like a
- 1:41:3290s like grunge rock playlist I guess.
- 1:41:35We're talking Nirvana. So we're talking like Nirvana
- 1:41:37and like Radiohead and that sort of thing, and I've just been
- 1:41:40really enjoying it. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:41:43I was hoping you wouldn't ask. Me.
- 1:41:45Oh, thanks. Sorry everyone.
- 1:41:47Came. I don't know, I listened to
- 1:41:48literally everything. Yeah.
- 1:41:50What was the song you listened to today?
- 1:41:53Sauna, sauna. Sauna, sauna.
- 1:41:55Yeah. You want me to play it?
- 1:41:57Yeah. Do you open your Spotify?
- 1:41:59Will it tell you? What?
- 1:42:00Your last played song was Yeah, I think so.
- 1:42:02I should. Kryptonite.
- 1:42:04Kryptonite 3 Doors Down. Nice.
- 1:42:07OK for me. Hot 1.
- 1:42:09Denzel Curry. That was me today.
- 1:42:12That's a great, that's a great album.
- 1:42:14I'm a new, I just put him on. I'm new to Denzel Curry.
- 1:42:16And like, have you listened? To this bulls on a parade cover
- 1:42:19No, but I I've gotten. Into Denzel Curry because like.
- 1:42:22Oh shit, it was like. Three years ago like that album
- 1:42:28God like he has one that taboo like you know what I'm talking
- 1:42:32about that whole album is fucking fire.
- 1:42:34He has a bulls on a parade. Oh, I'm gonna have to put this
- 1:42:37on on my thing. You're you're a.
- 1:42:40Completely different artist here.
- 1:42:41This is crazy. Oh.
- 1:42:42Shit, I'm OK. I'm yours, my last played was.
- 1:42:47I miss you by Blink 182. You're so alternative and emo.
- 1:42:52I love it. Emo kid at heart like.
- 1:42:57I said. Metal and then butt.
- 1:42:59Rock was literally online. But see like.
- 1:43:02Speaking of e-mail alternative, so like I that's why I fuck with
- 1:43:05Denzel. Curry.
- 1:43:06Like, I feel like he's kind of like that, you know?
- 1:43:08He's just angry. He's just like, I love a good
- 1:43:11angry song, you know? What was yours today or whatever
- 1:43:17it was? The sauna.
- 1:43:17Sauna. Oh, yeah.
- 1:43:18Oh yeah. You were going to play, We play.
- 1:43:21When I'm trying to get my son. To calm down.
- 1:43:24So is it a little kid song? Yeah.
- 1:43:26OK, play it I. Love it.
- 1:43:32You're a total dead. It's kind of.
- 1:43:35Catchy. It's great.
- 1:43:39Is this? Owl City.
- 1:43:40This. Sound like.
- 1:43:43Owl City the second we. Play it.
- 1:43:51He just Oh my God, that's funny. I have no idea what it's saying,
- 1:43:56Sana, sana. I mean, it's like when you get
- 1:43:58an ouchy and. I don't know my my.
- 1:44:01Wife and so sana sana colita arana is something that you say.
- 1:44:05Like. So that it goes away.
- 1:44:07Like Sana, Sana means heel, heel, butt of a frog.
- 1:44:14And that's how beautiful Spanish.
- 1:44:16Is that is like. That's a testament.
- 1:44:18To that I. Wish I would have kept going on
- 1:44:20doing it. Yeah, I would.
- 1:44:22Have would have gone that far. Very beautiful song.
- 1:44:24So what what's what was your song today?
- 1:44:28I don't. Use Spotify to listen to music
- 1:44:30actually, so I can't. Participate Are you taking a
- 1:44:33stand or what? I just the SoundCloud.
- 1:44:37SoundCloud. Yeah, yeah, Pandora, I gotta.
- 1:44:40Go. I do SoundCloud.
- 1:44:43Mostly with the ads, yeah. Yeah.
- 1:44:46Yeah. Yeah, my.
- 1:44:46Spotify has ads. I use Spotify to.
- 1:44:49Listen to the podcast. Can I actually tell?
- 1:44:51You an ad story Yes so this one time my wife.
- 1:44:55And I decided to get couples. Massages.
- 1:44:58Yeah, for I think it was our anniversary or something and I'm
- 1:45:02in there and I'm enjoying this massage.
- 1:45:05It's nice, but they the music that they had was Pandora with
- 1:45:11the ads. Oh yeah.
- 1:45:12So I'm like getting all relaxed and some like, I don't know,
- 1:45:16Neutrogena ad like. Pops.
- 1:45:17Up. Like a Domino's ad.
- 1:45:20Yeah, Yeah. And you're like fuck what the
- 1:45:22and the ads are always like. 10 times.
- 1:45:23Louder than yeah. They are.
- 1:45:26They really are, though. I've only had one massage and it
- 1:45:28was a weird experience. Oh really?
- 1:45:31It's because you're autistic? Well, she came in the.
- 1:45:32Room. She's like, like for real.
- 1:45:35You don't like? You don't like textures?
- 1:45:37Being touched I'm. Telling you it's a texture.
- 1:45:40She. Is like get.
- 1:45:41Undressed. Leave your underwear on.
- 1:45:45When you say it like that, it just sound weird.
- 1:45:46I'm gonna come back in in like 10 minutes, yeah.
- 1:45:48I'm like, cool. I empty my pockets.
- 1:45:51I take my shirt off. I pull my pants down.
- 1:45:53She just walks in the room. I'm just standing there like
- 1:45:56bends over and she's like, oh, I'm sorry.
- 1:45:58I'm like. It's.
- 1:46:00Been like 30 seconds. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:46:02She wanted to see you naked, probably.
- 1:46:03And then she just talked to me the entire time, and I was just.
- 1:46:07Like no, not. Okay, I hate I hate when they do
- 1:46:10that like. You have to like, it's my time.
- 1:46:13Please don't talk to me. Yeah, see, I'm the opposite.
- 1:46:16I've only gotten one massage. Yeah, and it was, it was
- 1:46:19actually a couples massage too. I was like.
- 1:46:20Really thankful that my fiance was also in the room.
- 1:46:22But I was so like nervous, like uncomfortable nervous that I
- 1:46:25just talk. Yeah, the whole time.
- 1:46:27And I was like, I really need this conversation.
- 1:46:30I was gonna say you're, you're a nervous.
- 1:46:31Talker so. I can see you just yapping it up
- 1:46:33to her. Yeah.
- 1:46:34I just try to go to sleep. Yeah, I'm not, so you know.
- 1:46:39Girls get eyelash. Extensions.
- 1:46:41And I cannot. Do stuff like that because I get
- 1:46:43really anxious, like the first time that I got.
- 1:46:45Because like you, it takes like two or three hours just to put
- 1:46:48them in. Yeah.
- 1:46:49It takes a long time. Like hair by hair.
- 1:46:51Yeah, They go hair by hair. Yeah.
- 1:46:52That's wild. Yeah.
- 1:46:54And. You know you're like.
- 1:46:56Eyes closed, you're at the mercy of someone.
- 1:46:59Hell no. Like it's so anxious for me.
- 1:47:01I'm like oh God, please someone like Emily, our old Co host.
- 1:47:05I would be like, dude, you need to come over here right now and
- 1:47:08hold my hand like you need to watch that I'm nothing is
- 1:47:11happening to me. Just making faces at you.
- 1:47:13I think about that like with. Actors that get like major.
- 1:47:18Like prosthetics on their face and like they have to like.
- 1:47:22They get like straws on their nose so they can breathe and
- 1:47:24then they get like the mold taken over their head of like, I
- 1:47:26would freak, dude. Yeah, like letting that cure for
- 1:47:29like an hour and just being like, it's like they're a
- 1:47:32shitty. Person and so.
- 1:47:34The second their eyes get covered up, the person just like
- 1:47:36flipping. Them off, like, it's like when
- 1:47:38you get sent to your room as a kid and you're like, flipping
- 1:47:40off the door, you know, just like the whole time, you know?
- 1:47:44Yeah. For real though.
- 1:47:47Got you. I think this is a really.
- 1:47:50Good time for us to transition to what we call the.
- 1:47:52Lightning round and so we're. Just going to like fire off a
- 1:47:55bunch of random questions. I feel like we need a shot
- 1:48:01because we finish our drinks already.
- 1:48:02I wish that. Like we used to have actual.
- 1:48:04Bartenders in the room, it was a good time.
- 1:48:06Did they just stand in the corner?
- 1:48:07Yeah. And just stare at you.
- 1:48:09It was so cool. I mean, you won't have a shot.
- 1:48:13Take. I'll take a shot of water.
- 1:48:15Get your. Hydration you're going to have
- 1:48:16today. Kids.
- 1:48:17Yeah, and you're going to have to.
- 1:48:18Really open up, right? I'm super vulnerable so.
- 1:48:23Everyone can have a. Little shot, do you?
- 1:48:25Want one? Actually, I'll.
- 1:48:25Take a little shot. OK, I'm.
- 1:48:28Going to put them in here because they look pretty.
- 1:48:30Is that weird? Yeah, OK.
- 1:48:35Damn, that's a full. Glass, OH.
- 1:48:37Shit. Yours.
- 1:48:38Was I'm so sorry, Do you want one?
- 1:48:43Yes, you do. I see it.
- 1:48:46Was that that semi? Turner Sound.
- 1:48:49I don't know it's. Just labeled as TADA on.
- 1:48:51My board how full it is? It could be you can throw some
- 1:48:56in here. No, that's fine.
- 1:48:57Okay, I so. Sorry that I.
- 1:49:01My excuses that you were far from me, That perception.
- 1:49:04Not your friend. Yeah.
- 1:49:05Not my friend. Yeah.
- 1:49:06Yeah. She has problems with left and
- 1:49:08right. I.
- 1:49:08Have really bad problems with left and right.
- 1:49:10Steve the last. Guy, he has it.
- 1:49:14Tattooed on him left and right. And I really do need to tattoo
- 1:49:18that on myself as well because, well, I struggle.
- 1:49:21I think you need someone else to tattoo it on you because you
- 1:49:23might. That's true.
- 1:49:26That's true. Yeah.
- 1:49:26Yeah. I don't trust myself anymore so.
- 1:49:29Dusty. 'S going to kick us off for the
- 1:49:30lightning. Ground or I can, yeah.
- 1:49:33Yeah, I can. OK.
- 1:49:34I just thought I saw what your screen is.
- 1:49:36He has a lot of your guys's. Shit up on your on his screen.
- 1:49:39Right now. Did research on it.
- 1:49:40Yeah, that's fucked up. Yeah, I know now I'm kidding.
- 1:49:43It's a sound board. OK Beer, cocktail or coffee?
- 1:49:49If you can only have one for the.
- 1:49:51Rest of your life. I mean, easy for me.
- 1:49:54Coffee. Yeah, coffee.
- 1:49:56I think I'd have to do a coffee. Have to.
- 1:49:59Yeah, like. That I'm just thinking that if
- 1:50:03you're drinking every. Single day.
- 1:50:04Oh, fair. Yeah, but for your health, OK.
- 1:50:09Yeah, I. Need it to function.
- 1:50:12Beer gets. Me bloated I can't do.
- 1:50:13It I'm not, yeah, I can't. Do beer.
- 1:50:15I'm not a beer person. What's a dream celebrity?
- 1:50:19That you could have a drink with at good company.
- 1:50:28Damn, that's a great question. Tobey Maguire.
- 1:50:32Oh, shoot. No.
- 1:50:34I would love to have a drink with.
- 1:50:35William Dafoe, actually. That's.
- 1:50:38Crazy. Awesome.
- 1:50:39Tobey would have to go in the back burner, yeah.
- 1:50:42Yeah. Denzel Curry.
- 1:50:48Celebrity. That's very.

- 1:50:53That's how you know that I can that I watch sports person.
- 1:50:56Sports Who? Do I love personas food
- 1:50:59personas? Yeah.

- 1:51:09Yeah, that's a great answer. Are you guys going to skip Can't
- 1:51:14steal? It I would steal that one.
- 1:51:16You steal that one. He said you can't see him.
- 1:51:18I'm sorry. You're gonna have to cut all
- 1:51:31this. So we look like we're really
- 1:51:33fast. Yeah, that's OK.
- 1:51:35That that's why he does this stuff.
- 1:51:36Yeah. Most.
- 1:51:38Overrated cocktail on any menu. Old fashioned.
- 1:51:44I was afraid you were gonna say. That I love old fashioned, yeah,
- 1:51:48but just. Overrated.
- 1:51:49I think they're. Overrated only because.
- 1:51:51There's no true recipe for them. And they're always all
- 1:51:54different. So I never order them when I go
- 1:51:56out because I'm always disappointed.
- 1:52:00Like I'm made the way I make them and that's it.
- 1:52:02OK. Have you had the one at Sabor?
- 1:52:04Yeah. They have like a rose.
- 1:52:07Ice Cube, I know that's not part like the main thing about the
- 1:52:10Old Fashioned, but it's a tequila based one.
- 1:52:13It's really good. I went to a cocktail bar here in
- 1:52:17town a few years ago and. They like.
- 1:52:20Smoked the glass but it had like the soot fell into the glass and
- 1:52:25then it was like in my teeth raining.
- 1:52:27It was weird. Tasted good, but the texture of
- 1:52:30it in my gums was not Yeah yeah. You guys, can I give a coffee
- 1:52:35answer? Yeah, I.
- 1:52:36Have a very strong opinion about a coffee drink that's Yeah, let
- 1:52:39us. Know it's the Americano.
- 1:52:42It is by far the. Most trash drink on.
- 1:52:45Every Water Cafe menu just get drip coffee.
- 1:52:48It's so much better. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:52:52Why? Because it has American in the
- 1:52:54name or what? Yeah, yeah.
- 1:52:56I. Wasn't going to.
- 1:52:56Say it, but it's Canadian. Condo now, right?
- 1:52:58Canadian. No, they just they're.
- 1:53:00Never good. Like people get them because?
- 1:53:02They think espresso has more caffeine.
- 1:53:04Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:53:06They're just never, they're never as interesting.
- 1:53:09As a good cup of. Drip coffee Fair, Yeah.
- 1:53:11Yeah, mine will probably get me murdered, yeah.
- 1:53:16By 1000, white ladies, a Margarita.
- 1:53:18But the espresso martini? Oh.
- 1:53:22Hey man, we own a. We own a coffee.
- 1:53:23Shop in a bar that's shut you now.
- 1:53:26No. The White Lady spoke.
- 1:53:29Come to good company. And get the espresso martini.
- 1:53:32But but our espresso martini is really good.
- 1:53:35I've been told OK, OK, hangover. Cure greasy breakfast.
- 1:53:43Or coffee first, coffee both, diner one or first which?
- 1:53:49One's first. Coffee.
- 1:53:51Because I'm waiting for my breakfast, yeah.
- 1:53:53Coffee, I have to say. Coffee.
- 1:53:56I don't know. Yeah, I.
- 1:53:57Can't imagine ever waking up on a morning and.
- 1:54:00Not wanting that to be the first thing in.
- 1:54:01My hand, yeah, yeah. That's how you know you have a
- 1:54:04problem. Well, we're a solution to a
- 1:54:06problem. Or like when you get a headache
- 1:54:09because. You haven't had your.
- 1:54:10Coffee yet? That's.
- 1:54:12That's a real thing. No, it's a real.
- 1:54:13Thing that's happened to me several times yeah.
- 1:54:17Worst thing you've ever put in the coffee just to try and I.
- 1:54:21Think you already? Said it.
- 1:54:22Yeah. It was a old charter whiskey.
- 1:54:28I didn't put it in the coffee. I.
- 1:54:29Put coffee in it. But it was.
- 1:54:31A Monster Energy without the shot of espresso.
- 1:54:35Sorry, I wasn't judging you. That was really harsh.
- 1:54:37That was to get through. Oktoberfest.
- 1:54:40To Andrew Merkel. Yeah, shout out to Merkel he
- 1:54:42brought. Everyone.
- 1:54:44Green eyes. You killed him.
- 1:54:45Green eye. Yeah.
- 1:54:46Yeah. Just a monster with shots of
- 1:54:49espresso on it. Fuck, that sounds kind of gross.
- 1:54:52It was gross, but I was buzzing. So like you.
- 1:54:55I like the anxiety. I like the yeah.
- 1:54:57Yeah, I like the feel the the high of yeah love it.
- 1:55:01Yeah, I. Like to be back on the?
- 1:55:03Edge like I take the meds, but I.
- 1:55:05Want something to put the edge back?
- 1:55:06On you know what I mean, you got feel something yeah yeah, yeah,
- 1:55:10yeah. Shave off a little too much.
- 1:55:11Yeah, 'cause I do, you know, like when I, when I take edibles
- 1:55:14now I realize. How much my meds really?
- 1:55:16Do be medding because I'm like shit when I take an edible like
- 1:55:20I'm funny as hell. So like if you guys think I'm
- 1:55:23funny right now, just imagine me off the meds.
- 1:55:27Like I'm just saying that's the quote.
- 1:55:29Yeah, clip that Clippers or. Scissors.
- 1:55:37As barbers depends, I had to say that.
- 1:55:40It just really depends. Clippers.
- 1:55:43I guess I could do everything. With the Clipper I can't do
- 1:55:46everything with scissors. Well, I could.
- 1:55:47It'd just. Take me a little longer.
- 1:55:48Take you 4 hours. Yeah, probably.
- 1:55:56Clean fade or a rugged beard fade?
- 1:55:59I hate doing facial hair. Same.
- 1:56:02Only they can do this. Only because I had somebody
- 1:56:06burp. Or.
- 1:56:08Like straight onions, Like into your face.
- 1:56:12Like fresh after lunch. And I was like I.
- 1:56:16Will never. Shave the face again, breathing.
- 1:56:19Breathing through your mouth and letting the mustache hair fall
- 1:56:22in your mouth or. Staring at your soul.
- 1:56:25While you're doing, yeah, you can see them in your peripheral,
- 1:56:27like staring at your eyes, but you're focused on their lip.
- 1:56:32Stop. And you're like, please close
- 1:56:34your eyes. OK, so all men out there, close
- 1:56:37your eyes. While they're.
- 1:56:38Trimming. Your beard and your mouth and
- 1:56:39your mouth and don't you be fucking burping in someone's
- 1:56:42face. That's gross.
- 1:56:44Yeah dog. Yeah dog.
- 1:56:46Grow up. Yeah dog.
- 1:56:48Yeah, dog. Yeah dog. 1 celeb.
- 1:56:53Haircut you refuse to do. Celeb haircut.
- 1:56:57Yeah, or like, you know, just. Something that's trending right
- 1:56:59now, like a trending. Haircut that you're like, I'm
- 1:57:01not doing that. Shit, I thought you were talking
- 1:57:03about an actual celebrity or that too.
- 1:57:06Whatever comes to mine, I want. To Monica's hair.
- 1:57:08But I would because I want to. Shave his head.
- 1:57:12Who DJT? Yeah, yeah, Kids are weird now.
- 1:57:18They're saying weird stuff. I feel like I'm getting old.
- 1:57:20They're like 14 year olds come to shop the other day.
- 1:57:22He's like, I want taper, block, fade.
- 1:57:24I was like, what the. What the fuck does that even
- 1:57:25mean? And then I just looked at his
- 1:57:27hair and I was like, you want this here and this here?
- 1:57:29He's like, yeah. And I was like, it's just a this
- 1:57:31is just a blowout from when I was a kid.
- 1:57:33Like they call it that. Don't be weird.
- 1:57:35This is just a quality haircut. Yeah.
- 1:57:37It's just weird. Yeah.
- 1:57:38I don't know. What's worse?
- 1:57:44Well, no. I feel like this is easy.
- 1:57:47For me personally, but then again, bad haircut or a bad
- 1:57:50tattoo? Bad tattoo, Yeah.
- 1:57:54Easy, huh? Like that?
- 1:57:56Yeah. I'm looking at this question
- 1:57:57like why the fuck did I put this in here?
- 1:58:00Caleb and I are probably like the least picky people whenever
- 1:58:02it comes to our hair because I'm like, it's going to grow.
- 1:58:05Back. Yeah, I just want you to try.
- 1:58:07That's it. Yeah, just try.
- 1:58:09Have you guys had Mohawks? Yeah, yeah.
- 1:58:12Yeah, when I was in high school, I had like a.
- 1:58:13Mohawk with a rat. Tail.
- 1:58:15What I. Had beads.
- 1:58:17In it no way that's his trauma, he.
- 1:58:20Left out trauma. I'm gonna go look.
- 1:58:22That up on your Facebook? On your Myspace.
- 1:58:26Your Bebo. I wish I could find that.
- 1:58:28Your Bebo. My Myspace.
- 1:58:30Your Myspace. I'm gonna.
- 1:58:31Find you on my. Yeah.

- 1:58:36One shit I can't remember right now.
- 1:58:39You can find my Club Penguin account.
- 1:58:41I'm gonna find your Club Penguin account, Your username 1.
- 1:58:49Conspiracy theory you low key. Think might be true.
- 1:58:53Oh, Sasquatch. Sasquatch done, I have been
- 1:58:58saying. This since.
- 1:58:59September 12th, 2001. But.
- 1:59:03But Caleb was not born on September 12th. 911. 911 Yeah,
- 1:59:09for real. We did that show.
- 1:59:11Boo. You think so?
- 1:59:14Oh. 100%, yeah, I think, I think.
- 1:59:16That was shit, was an inside. Job because yeah, yeah, like.
- 1:59:19They were looking at. I'm not gonna get into it.
- 1:59:22I can just I can talk about this could be a whole.
- 1:59:23Podcast. Damn.
- 1:59:24Like we were gonna get in conspiracy theories.
- 1:59:27Yeah, we were. Yeah, yeah, we were gonna get
- 1:59:29into them. First time I met Caleb's wife.
- 1:59:30Yeah, I like brought. That up and she's.
- 1:59:32Like ha ha ha. And I was like, no, I'm serious.
- 1:59:35And like, yeah, I can. I can talk conspiracy theories
- 1:59:39for hours. Yeah, easy.
- 1:59:40Yeah, that's like. Number.
- 1:59:42One for me, yeah. I mean that would be it.
- 1:59:48I don't know. I love how safe you are.
- 1:59:51Yeah, he's. Gonna tip his toes in.
- 1:59:54The water and I just jump off kind.
- 1:59:56Of Guy, Yeah. Yeah, Nick watches.
- 1:59:58He's. He's like, go guys, go Nick.
- 2:00:01Nick just steals the safe ones. He's like.
- 2:00:03Sasquatch. There's so many other.
- 2:00:05Safe ones. OK, what's an unsafe one?
- 2:00:08It's an unsafe 1. Yeah, it's an unsafe.
- 2:00:10Yeah, you're not allowed to do safe.
- 2:00:11Answers anymore because you're I'll do.
- 2:00:13Not drunk, I'll do JFK. JFK OK, yeah, inside.
- 2:00:16We did that too. Yeah, I could see that one for
- 2:00:18sure. Easy.
- 2:00:21Blasted that fool. His wife, that's.
- 2:00:25Fucked up. It is kind of fucked up, yeah,
- 2:00:26for sure. What are the other?
- 2:00:28Conspiracies. There's the one that birds
- 2:00:30aren't real. There's the one about bird
- 2:00:32landing. Or bird landing.
- 2:00:34The moon landing's not real Flat Earth.
- 2:00:37These are all safe. Oh, that's that's safe.
- 2:00:39OK, that feels like pretty safe. Like flatter.
- 2:00:42Aliens come from underneath. The water, I think that's real.
- 2:00:45That's my my conspiracy theory is.
- 2:00:47That aliens come from under the water because we're. 80% water
- 2:00:50in this earth. And like, sorry, soapbox,
- 2:00:54anytime we get on this subject, look at squid.
- 2:00:56Yeah, like what the fuck? All those things underneath the
- 2:00:59water, they look creepy as fuck and.
- 2:01:00We know more. About our space and we do our
- 2:01:03water. That's scary.
- 2:01:04And we all need to be afraid of our oceans.
- 2:01:06Be afraid what they tell us What happens to the Aztecs, dude,
- 2:01:09where'd they go? Yeah, shit.
- 2:01:11Or like just even. The Egyptians like how do we
- 2:01:15build all? These pyramids, yeah.
- 2:01:16And how is it that in Egypt but also in Mexico?
- 2:01:19They Yeah, like how? And these people can't
- 2:01:22communicate because we're talking supposedly back then in
- 2:01:25the day, they can't communicate. Yeah, I don't think we give
- 2:01:29humans 100%. That's when all the contents
- 2:01:31were connected. No, they weren't, because Pangea
- 2:01:33was. Pangea was when?
- 2:01:35Like I. Supposedly human species didn't
- 2:01:39exist. What is Pangea?
- 2:01:40I've only continents connect. We're connected.
- 2:01:42Yeah. I heard that in that that little
- 2:01:43Dicky song and I just. Never looked it up and.
- 2:01:46He's like, you know, I do. Fuck with Pangea, it's a cool
- 2:01:48place to hear about Pangea. It's.
- 2:01:52A at. School.
- 2:01:53It's PEM does. No, I'm kidding.
- 2:01:55It's a supercontinent that existed.
- 2:01:57During the late Paleozoic and early.
- 2:02:00Mesozoic eras. That's before people 335 to 200
- 2:02:03million years ago and like I think.
- 2:02:06Egypt. Like all the old.
- 2:02:09Civilization because like that's supposedly the oldest one, I
- 2:02:13think. I mean, that's years after that.
- 2:02:17So like supposedly when we were Pangea, when all the continents
- 2:02:20were together, there was no human species.
- 2:02:23I think, I'm pretty sure Mrs. Zoic, I think means that there's
- 2:02:27people though I don't know, or there was, cuz there's a whole
- 2:02:30bunch of stuff under Antarctica's ice that you.
- 2:02:34Know including a pyramid if you pyramid there too, yeah, it
- 2:02:38could be like communist. Communism too could be like
- 2:02:42maybe. A hot take one but it's good or
- 2:02:45bad or what? That's a good.
- 2:02:48That's a good one. Or like guerrilla warfare?
- 2:02:51Yeah, this is about. Well, I don't know if this is a
- 2:02:53hot take One it's the. Hottest take I can think of but
- 2:02:55the whole like Hitler is. Like, well, he's not still alive
- 2:02:58now, but like that he was never killed, I think.
- 2:03:01I think too Argentina. Yeah, Yeah, I think that he
- 2:03:03escaped Argentina. Yeah.
- 2:03:04Someone that psycho? Just doesn't end it.
- 2:03:07Yeah, yeah, yeah. OK.
- 2:03:11Last question, how about that? This is this is a good question.
- 2:03:17Do you guys? Put the toilet seat down.
- 2:03:19For your partners. So I was raised by a woman put
- 2:03:23it up who we. Closed the.
- 2:03:30Lid. As well in my household.
- 2:03:33Because my mom was the right way.
- 2:03:34My mom was like, I don't want to stare at it.
- 2:03:36She's a germaphobe. And also, if I have to lift a
- 2:03:41toilet seat up and or if you have to lift the seats up to
- 2:03:44pee, it's only fair that I left the seat up too.
- 2:03:46I was like what she told me as a kid.
- 2:03:48But yeah, I just don't want to see inside the toilet, to be
- 2:03:50honest. So I think that's a good answer.
- 2:03:53That's my yeah, I closed the whole lid too.
- 2:03:55I saw a statistic. One time about all the like
- 2:03:58bacteria that comes. Out.
- 2:03:59Yeah, when you ever since I was just like, that's just easy.
- 2:04:01Let's make it easy. That's what I did too.
- 2:04:04I got. Traumatized.
- 2:04:05Just kind of, what a gross day. Decides, oh you're kind of
- 2:04:08gross. Usually I close it.
- 2:04:11Also like I have a kid I don't want her to like true and my dog
- 2:04:15would get. Inside the.
- 2:04:16Toilet and that just makes me mad.
- 2:04:18Yeah. Yeah, that's.
- 2:04:19Fair. Fun fact, I thought of that
- 2:04:21question during our break earlier.
- 2:04:23Oh good, because I went to the bathroom.
- 2:04:26That's a good question, though. That's a good question,
- 2:04:28especially for. Them.
- 2:04:28Yeah, close. Public.
- 2:04:31I close public. I will be honest it.
- 2:04:34Was open when I went in. And Dusty.
- 2:04:37Was the last person. It was a little dirty and so I
- 2:04:40just took. Some some toilet paper and I
- 2:04:42cleaned it because. I didn't want to see it and then
- 2:04:44I shut the lid. I I always clean it if it is
- 2:04:48dirty because I don't want to come at.
- 2:04:50My biggest fear is coming out of the bathroom and someone's
- 2:04:53waiting and they're going. To be like this.
- 2:04:54Guy. Oh yeah, this guy pissed all
- 2:04:56over the seat. Yeah, yeah, depends on where I'm
- 2:05:00at. To disrespect.
- 2:05:01In public restrooms just. Makes.
- 2:05:03Me so mad Oh yeah as you guys as.
- 2:05:05Business owners, I bet, just as a consumer.
- 2:05:09Into a bathroom? I don't want to see that either.
- 2:05:12True. Yeah, yeah, that yeah, so.
- 2:05:17On a good take. We've.
- 2:05:19Now heard a little bit. About you guys.
- 2:05:21Your stories, your passions, some of your.
- 2:05:23Interests so tell us in our. Listeners, how can everyone
- 2:05:27support you? I'm dependent and good company.
- 2:05:32Mm hmm. Order your.
- 2:05:33Order your coffee. Buy local coffee beans.
- 2:05:37Even if it's not from. Us just buy local coffee beans.
- 2:05:40Yeah, yeah, it's important right now.
- 2:05:43Literally stop. Stop going.
- 2:05:45To chains, you have to. Like make an effort.
- 2:05:48To go support a local business so it keeps the money inside of
- 2:05:52our community. Yeah, 100%.
- 2:05:55And it's not any cheaper. That's what's crazy.
- 2:05:58That's true. Going to any chain restaurant
- 2:06:01it's you're spending almost as much money if not.
- 2:06:03More. On on products that you would at
- 2:06:08a local spot. That has people that actually.
- 2:06:10Live Don't let convenience deer you from going to a business
- 2:06:16Yeah, get out of your car, walk in, have an.
- 2:06:18Interaction. Learn to.
- 2:06:19Walk more than a block in Wichita.
- 2:06:22Yes, it's OK to get those steps in.
- 2:06:25It's a good thing to get the. Steps.
- 2:06:26In you don't. Need the superstar parking?
- 2:06:29Yeah. Yeah, OK.
- 2:06:32Well. Here's you guys, Pariva.
- 2:06:35Pavajo down palcentro Y paventro.
- 2:06:47How was that? Did you guys like it?
- 2:06:49It was great, yeah. Did you?
- 2:06:52Like you know from one person and you.
- 2:06:54Guys were happy about. A podcast?
- 2:06:56Were you terrified still?
