- 0:26SPEAKER_03: Go.
- 0:30SPEAKER_01: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Mike Blitz.
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: I'm your host, Mike Wade, my co-host over there at South Richmond, Mike White.
- 0:36SPEAKER_01: What is up?
- 0:37SPEAKER_01: What's up?
- 0:38SPEAKER_01: Welcome to the show, y'all.
- 0:39SPEAKER_01: So excited.
- 0:40SPEAKER_01: Thanksgiving week.
- 0:41SPEAKER_01: Thanksgiving week, rivalry week, hate week, whatever you want to call it.
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: We are at the damn near end of college football.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: I can't believe it.
- 0:49SPEAKER_01: I say this every year just because we're messed up with college football.
- 0:51SPEAKER_01: I know it's true for you too.
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: It goes faster and faster.
- 0:55SPEAKER_01: Like we're college football, I feel like opening weekend, like Georgia, Oregon was like not that long ago.
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: It was, but it didn't feel like that long ago.
- 1:02SPEAKER_02: No, it's it's flown by.
- 1:04SPEAKER_02: It's really sad that we're we're we're to this point.
- 1:08SPEAKER_02: It's been a fun season.
- 1:10SPEAKER_02: It's been probably we've seen probably more parody, more ups and downs, you know, more surprises this year than any of the years past.
- 1:19SPEAKER_01: This has been, I certainly agree.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: In terms of like an inter in terms of just like strictly entertainment value, I mean, think about like the UNC app state game.
- 1:26SPEAKER_01: Like what a gem that was.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: Or like App State beating Texas AM.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: Back when we thought Texas AM was a national title contender.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: Um, like there's like Miami losing to uh middle Tennessee.
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: Like, it's just been it's been a wild, wild year.
- 1:38SPEAKER_01: Texas AM.
- 1:40SPEAKER_02: TCU is a great story.
- 1:41SPEAKER_01: You and I think our two teams both taken down Big Bad Bama in the same same year since I mean the early 2000s, the last time that happened, 90s.
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: So um, yeah, no matter how it all shakes out, it's been a wowly successful year, wowly fun year.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: So that's really cool.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: Um, but let's talk about so what's new with you?
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: I mean what what's what's been going on the last week of your life?
- 2:00SPEAKER_02: Um, what's new with us?
- 2:01SPEAKER_02: We've all got COVID, which you know, but we're we've been um we've been in the house.
- 2:06SPEAKER_02: Uh we've been we've had two sick babies.
- 2:09SPEAKER_02: Luckily, everybody's feeling much better.
- 2:11SPEAKER_02: Um so we're on the tail end, which is nice.
- 2:15SPEAKER_02: And um we're on on to hopefully more regular live in here soon.
- 2:20SPEAKER_04: Woof.
- 2:21SPEAKER_01: Feel for you, brother.
- 2:22SPEAKER_01: I'm hoping that you guys are all now on the kind of tail end, like turning the corner is just getting better because having sick having one sick kid, two sick kids is just no no bueno, no fun.
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: It's been stressful.
- 2:32SPEAKER_02: It wasn't as bad as the first time we all got COVID.
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, y'all, y'all been through it.
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: Y'all know, y'all are all experts on this stuff.
- 2:39SPEAKER_02: What's up with you, man?
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: Uh, so we had a my son's birthday party this past weekend.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: They uh we rented a moon bounce.
- 2:45SPEAKER_01: I don't know if I knew knew this when I rented it, that it was gonna be I thought I thought they were gonna show up Saturday morning, leave it there for like six hours, then like come back and get it.
- 2:54SPEAKER_01: They dropped it off Friday morning.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: They didn't come back until Sunday night.
- 2:57SPEAKER_01: I had this moon bounce in my backyard for three days.
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: So we had like all the neighborhood kids come over on Friday, his birthday party on Saturday morning, neighborhood kids come back Saturday night, neighborhood kids come back on Sunday.
- 3:11SPEAKER_01: We had like four different parties.
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: My kids spent more time outside on a moon bounce than I've had I've spent in my entire life, maybe.
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: That's awesome.
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's like it was pretty sweet.
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: There's part of me that was like when I saw the truck come up get it, I was like, oh man, I was like kind of used to like having that around.
- 3:26SPEAKER_01: That was like the greatest thing I ever.
- 3:27SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna miss that moon bounce.
- 3:29SPEAKER_02: How much time did you spend on the moon bounce?
- 3:31SPEAKER_01: Uh, about 10 minutes.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: I got up, I it had a I went in, it had a basketball court in there as a little basketball hoop, and it had one of those like uh stairways with the slide to the outside.
- 3:41SPEAKER_01: And it was like a big, real, it was like real legit one, like a hard, like a heavy duty one.
- 3:45SPEAKER_01: So I got up in the tower and hit the slide a couple times.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: The problem is I was like, I'm old.
- 3:50SPEAKER_01: I start jumping for like five minutes, and I'm like, oh god, my tummy.
- 3:53SPEAKER_01: Like, oh jeez.
- 3:54SPEAKER_01: I my tummy starts hurting.
- 3:56SPEAKER_01: I gotta get out.
- 3:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's what happened to me at that kid's birthday party when I slammed me and Archie's heads against the top of the moon bounce, and those things are not giving.
- 4:04SPEAKER_02: So we just like it just catapulted us down into the ground, which is funny.
- 4:09SPEAKER_01: You know, it's weird.
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: Moon bounces aren't designed for adults.
- 4:11SPEAKER_01: You who to figure.
- 4:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they're still fun, though.
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: You can still enjoy.
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: Uh, which drawer are you drinking tonight?
- 4:18SPEAKER_02: Uh, I've gone back to the well.
- 4:20SPEAKER_02: I've got a dark hollow, which is my favorite cold time beer.
- 4:24SPEAKER_02: Dark hollow from what brewery?
- 4:26SPEAKER_02: From Blue Mountain.
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: I am also drinking a Blue Mountain beer.
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: You first.
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: Imperial style.
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: Yes, very nice.
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: Very nice.
- 4:34SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, Dark Hollow kicks ass.
- 4:36SPEAKER_01: I'm drinking a um uh Full Nelson, one of my first original favorite Virginia beers.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: I think I've had the show before.
- 4:41SPEAKER_01: I'm actually going to Crozet tomorrow.
- 4:43SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna be there this weekend.
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: And Crozet is like five minutes from uh, where is this?
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: Afton Mountain.
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: I can't really remember where what town's actually brewed in.
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: That sounds right.
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's like five minutes from from the brewery.
- 4:54SPEAKER_01: So I'm I imagine at some point I'll get yeah, at some point I'm gonna get over there and check it out.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: Uh Blue Mountain, addition to making just badass beer, which you and I already know we're both drinking one right now, just total coincidence.
- 5:04SPEAKER_01: The brewery itself is also sweet.
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: It's got an awesome view of the mountains.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: They've got a nice uh restaurant.
- 5:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they got a nice restaurant, they get bands in there, they got a cool stage, like space eaters outside.
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: It's like it's a great place to like peace of Virginia, get out there and drink some beer.
- 5:17SPEAKER_01: Um, good, just awesome tourist spot to get get a wet lunch, so to speak.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: Uh, very cool.
- 5:23SPEAKER_01: Let's talk um college football.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: Uh first thing was gonna talk about some talk about the news.
- 5:27SPEAKER_01: Um uh the the sad news, the the reality.
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: Um, as we as we all know, UVA did not play their game against Coastal Carolina.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: They're still grieving.
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: Um, the horrific tragedy that um that happened to UVA football.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: Those three players losing their life being murdered.
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: Uh the last game of the season, UVA Tech was canceled.
- 5:45SPEAKER_01: So there will be no uh Virginia Tech, Virginia football games coming week.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: I think it's the right choice.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: And you know, I've heard I mean I pay a lot of attention to college football, a lot of attention to college football fans.
- 5:55SPEAKER_01: It's been refreshing to not hear any of even the diehard UVA tech fans I know complaining.
- 6:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, they I mean, not to sound I don't know, crash, but they probably don't want to see this game played.
- 6:10SPEAKER_02: I mean, outside of that, I mean, uh everyone's kind of ready for the season to end.
- 6:14SPEAKER_02: It's it's it's it's it's a terrible tragedy.
- 6:18SPEAKER_02: There's no reason to force the issue.
- 6:20SPEAKER_02: Um, it's been a rough year on both sides, and I know that you know the rivalry games are what what makes this sport great and and one of those things that can kind of save your season.
- 6:31SPEAKER_02: But I think everybody in Virginia, particularly those two schools, is ready to kind of just move on and um I don't know, just pay proper respect and you know it'll be played next year.
- 6:44SPEAKER_02: And that's and that's fine.
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: It will be.
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: I think I think you're right.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: I think so too.
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: I mean, obviously, it was nice to see Virginia Tech end the season, end the season on a win, big, nice win against Liberty, which we'll talk about in a little bit.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: It's that's that's it's about as good as it gets for Virginia Tech this year.
- 6:57SPEAKER_01: So I think they got that momentum to build on, and now they can just kind of show solidarity with their friends in Charlottesville and just kind of do the right thing and you know, uh move on till 2023.
- 7:07SPEAKER_01: Uh, the other piece of news I want to touch on real quickly, tremendous amount of smoke, not news, it's more of speculation.
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: You know, Mike and I aren't big on the rumor mill, the on the hot goss, but it's worth mentioning.
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: Tons of the tea.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: Spill the tea, we're spill the tea.
- 7:20SPEAKER_01: Uh, tons of smoke on the Lane Kiffin train right now.
- 7:23SPEAKER_01: Lane Kiffin, the current coach of Ole Miss, um, is being heavily rumored to uh take the the Auburn job, take over for Brian Harson.
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: Um, the the agents are talking, reporters are spilling leaks, um tremendous amount of smoke.
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: There's one of two things this could be.
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: One, obviously, it's being levered leveraged for a raise, which we see all the time.
- 7:44SPEAKER_01: Agents kind of leak this stuff out, they kind of say what they gotta say, they get a big pay bump.
- 7:48SPEAKER_01: Or two, it's actually happening.
- 7:50SPEAKER_01: And for me, this feels like it's actually happening.
- 7:52SPEAKER_01: You got any thoughts?
- 7:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:54SPEAKER_02: I I kind of think it it is as well.
- 7:56SPEAKER_02: Um, I think it's a it would be a nice step up for him.
- 8:00SPEAKER_02: I also don't think that um I don't think he has found a home there.
- 8:05SPEAKER_02: Um just that's just kind of in his nature.
- 8:08SPEAKER_02: Um but I mean Lane Kiffin being Lane Kiffin responded directly to one of the reporters.
- 8:15SPEAKER_02: You and I talked about this and basically fired back and at the reporter specifically and and and and said that hey, I've got breaking news.
- 8:24SPEAKER_02: You're leaving your job and going to another news outlet, um, sources to come, breaking news.
- 8:31SPEAKER_02: So just Lane Kiffin being Lane Kiffin is is hilarious.
- 8:35SPEAKER_02: Um I think they're I think there's smoke, a little smoke to this to this fire.
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: I I hate to say this to any old Miss fans listening, but I I think it's fair to say that Auburn is a bigger, better job, frankly, than Ole Miss in terms of the coaching pedigree.
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: Now, Ole Miss fans would take a tremendous amount of respect for that, given they're both rivals in the same division, the same coach.
- 8:55SPEAKER_02: They've had a few good years.
- 8:57SPEAKER_02: Uh, you know, they're no they're definitely against you.
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: I'm not gonna argue against you.
- 9:01SPEAKER_01: I under I understand why he's gonna.
- 9:02SPEAKER_01: I also think this is kind of lame Kiffin.
- 9:03SPEAKER_01: You know, he was he was the offensive coordinator for Alabama, won a couple of national championships, I think, with them.
- 9:08SPEAKER_01: I think he wants I think he wants to take on uh Nick Saban in his backyard.
- 9:13SPEAKER_01: I think that I think there is something drawing him to there because frankly, he could have any job out there, although Auburn's probably the biggest job on the market right now, and he is from he is he has he has established himself to put a foothold in the south.
- 9:25SPEAKER_01: Um he could wait another year.
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: There's probably another big job coming, but he it sounds like he wants Auburn's not an easy place to win, as you know.
- 9:33SPEAKER_02: No, it's it's not.
- 9:34SPEAKER_02: They've got on paper one of the toughest schedules in the country built in every single year.
- 9:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 9:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 9:39SPEAKER_02: I mean, they're just like Tennessee.
- 9:41SPEAKER_02: They play Alabama and Georgia every year.
- 9:43SPEAKER_02: Of course, all that could change when the SEC shakes things up, but I like Lane Kiffin being the SEC.
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: Kudos to him, you know.
- 9:51SPEAKER_01: I'm I mean, I'm glad that uh we're not losing him entirely.
- 9:55SPEAKER_01: Even though he is playing even though LSU does play him every year, um, I recognize him he's just a darn good coach.
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: He's really entertaining and he just elevates the level of play for everybody.
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: He is really entertaining.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I just doesn't care.
- 10:05SPEAKER_02: I mean, he's a huge dick.
- 10:07SPEAKER_01: Correct.
- 10:07SPEAKER_01: I also think he's gonna do really well at Auburn.
- 10:09SPEAKER_01: So part of me is like, I'm expecting him to go there.
- 10:11SPEAKER_01: Because there's in my mind, like when something some somebody reported that, I'm like, well, that makes a lot of sense to me.
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: I think they're gonna, I think he's gonna take half of his favorite players from Ole Miss with him.
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: Um, and he's gonna do great.
- 10:20SPEAKER_01: He's gonna do his defense isn't gonna upgraded, his recruiting is gonna get upgraded.
- 10:24SPEAKER_01: Jordan Hare is a bad thing.
- 10:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, there's way more buy-in, there's way more money, there's there's there's a lot more resources.
- 10:32SPEAKER_02: Um, but yeah, I mean, you could tell me any given year that Lane Kiffin is going to X, Y, or Z, and I'd be like, Yeah, that makes sense.
- 10:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's makes sense.
- 10:38SPEAKER_01: All right, let's keep moving.
- 10:39SPEAKER_01: We've talked enough about uh we're talking about hypothetical, which we will all find out whether it's true or not later.
- 10:43SPEAKER_01: Uh so this past week of football was a great week of football.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: It wasn't supposed to be.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: A lot of teams kind of scheduled uh uh no-team conferences leading up to Rivalry Week, which is in my my opinion, my favorite week of college football.
- 10:55SPEAKER_01: But despite that fact, it totally delivered.
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: We had a lot of great games, and let's just start with the top where we always start.
- 11:00SPEAKER_01: Uh, number one, Georgia, uh 16 to 6 um in an ugly game.
- 11:05SPEAKER_01: Uh, they managed to get past uh Kentucky.
- 11:07SPEAKER_01: Uh Will Levis, the alleged uh NF NFL quarterback, uh 20 of 31, 206 yards touchdown, didn't play atrocious.
- 11:14SPEAKER_01: I'm at the point now with Georgia, they play their competition, is what that's where is where I am with it.
- 11:19SPEAKER_01: So I don't read into and I don't read into this one bit, frankly.
- 11:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I agree with you.
- 11:24SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, they can they can kind of do whatever they want at this point, and they um they're good enough where they can play to a certain style.
- 11:33SPEAKER_02: Um, but they did struggle a little bit on offense.
- 11:36SPEAKER_02: I mean, you can't tell me that Kirby Smart didn't want to put up more points than that.
- 11:40SPEAKER_02: I've seen the message boards, I've seen all of the Georgia um talk and and trash talk that you know why would you show anything on your playbook if you didn't have to?
- 11:51SPEAKER_02: We knew we could win three to nothing if we had to.
- 11:53SPEAKER_02: No, no coach is folding it in in like the first quarter.
- 11:59SPEAKER_02: Like they do struggle on offense at times.
- 12:01SPEAKER_02: That's something that could come back and bite them, period.
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Kentucky's is just in general under Mike Stoops, it's been a well-coached defensive team.
- 12:08SPEAKER_01: So it was nine-nothing at halftime.
- 12:10SPEAKER_01: Kirby Smart did not plan for nine-nothing at halftime.
- 12:13SPEAKER_01: No.
- 12:13SPEAKER_01: Um, I just, you know, given what they have next week, and then obviously playing us in the SEC championship, I just don't uh I don't look much into it.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: They're 11-0.
- 12:21SPEAKER_01: They're still the best team in the country, yeah.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: Not a doubt in my mind.
- 12:24SPEAKER_01: Uh number two, Ohio State struggled with Maryland.
- 12:27SPEAKER_01: Uh, they uh final score was 43-30.
- 12:30SPEAKER_01: That tells you a 13-point game.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: That last scoop and score was in the last seven seconds.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: This was a one-possession game for sure.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: And honestly, a couple breaks go that go a different way.
- 12:39SPEAKER_01: Um, Maryland wins this game.
- 12:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that was actually a fantastic game.
- 12:44SPEAKER_02: And uh two to uh Tuilia Taglia Taglia Boa played fantastic.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: Yes, he did.
- 12:53SPEAKER_01: Yes, he did.
- 12:54SPEAKER_01: Uh, he he yeah, he had a big day.
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: They've got web, yeah.
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: Tuaya, they've got they've got weapons out there.
- 12:59SPEAKER_01: I can't say it either.
- 13:00SPEAKER_01: Um uh Rakeem Jarrett's good receiver.
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: Mike Loxley knows how to coach or knows how to run a good offense.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: Uh so kudos to him.
- 13:07SPEAKER_01: Um, the story for me here is I mean, obviously, I one kudos to Maryland, make a step forward.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, I was I know there's no there's no moral victories in college football, but honestly, having Ohio State on the ropes like that and just like two or three plays away from winning that game, I think you I think you could you can hang your hat on that, frankly.
- 13:24SPEAKER_01: Um, but the story here, the story here for me is Ohio State's defense, which was supposed to get better, has not.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: They are still struggling on defense and giving up points to teams that they're supposed to be superior to in every aspect, frankly.
- 14:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they are, but I think um you know they they've showed enough on offense.
- 14:24SPEAKER_02: I I know what you're getting, I know I already know what you're getting at.
- 14:26SPEAKER_02: Because you're already talking, you're already inching towards this Michigan game.
- 14:31SPEAKER_02: And you've been talking about Michigan forever.
- 14:34SPEAKER_02: Um so yeah, I mean, I thought I thought Maryland was gonna upset them, especially because there was a there was a like a there was a big swing play, I think it was before the half, um, that went Ohio State's way.
- 14:47SPEAKER_02: Uh so yeah, this this way, this game could have very easily gone the other way.
- 14:51SPEAKER_02: Uh Steve J.
- 14:52SPEAKER_02: Stroud did not play well.
- 14:53SPEAKER_02: Um, Dallin Hayden played fantastic, the running back for Ohio State, and their whole running back room's been banged up.
- 14:58SPEAKER_02: He went for 146, 27 carries.
- 15:01SPEAKER_02: He carried the team.
- 15:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Trigger Henderson's out.
- 15:04SPEAKER_01: The number two guy's out, too.
- 15:05SPEAKER_01: He's a so I mean, obviously, I mean, spoil uh th things you never thought you knew.
- 15:09SPEAKER_01: Ohio State has a ton of talented running backs.
- 15:11SPEAKER_01: I'm shocked.
- 15:13SPEAKER_04: Yeah, news flash.
- 15:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they had to go deep into their roster, which uh didn't didn't hurt him at all.
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, they were losing at halftime.
- 15:20SPEAKER_01: It was uh 13-10 Maryland.
- 15:22SPEAKER_01: So um, you know, we will see what that defense looks like.
- 15:25SPEAKER_01: Now on the other side of that coin.
- 15:27SPEAKER_01: Let's go this.
- 15:28SPEAKER_01: Let's go ahead and jump in.
- 15:28SPEAKER_01: You have anything else on Ohio State, Maryland?
- 15:30SPEAKER_01: No, we can keep rolling.
- 15:31SPEAKER_01: Cool.
- 15:31SPEAKER_01: Uh number three, Michigan.
- 15:33SPEAKER_01: Uh snuck away.
- 15:34SPEAKER_01: They should have lost that game.
- 15:36SPEAKER_01: Should have lost this game.
- 15:37SPEAKER_01: 1917.
- 15:39SPEAKER_01: Uh Jim Harbaugh with some gutsy um decisions on the field goal.
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: That that kicker, Mooney, I think his name is, is awesome.
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: Uh, 1917 was the final score.
- 15:47SPEAKER_02: He's like the leading scorer.
- 15:49SPEAKER_02: I think he's the best kicker in Michigan history.
- 15:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:51SPEAKER_01: Um, I I think so.
- 15:52SPEAKER_01: I think he better be after this week.
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: Um uh couple questionable calls.
- 15:57SPEAKER_01: There was an there was an offensive pass interference on a fourth down conversion uh that Michigan totally got away from.
- 16:03SPEAKER_01: I guess he was within that first three lines.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: You can kind of bump your guy off the run, but it was one of those calls that could have definitely gone the other way.
- 16:10SPEAKER_01: Um Michigan uh to punting the ball with like three and a half minutes left, also a pretty gutsy call.
- 16:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Illinois played not to lose, and they lost.
- 16:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 16:21SPEAKER_02: Because this game should have this game could have played out completely differently.
- 16:25SPEAKER_02: Um the only sort of flip side to that was that their offense is Chase Brown and their offense is running the ball, and they handed the ball to him, and he had a fantastic game, 140 yards, almost, I think 30 carries or something.
- 16:41SPEAKER_02: Um and so they tried to finish it off with him, but it's hard to run the ball, especially against the Michigan defense, if they know it's coming every single time.
- 16:51SPEAKER_02: And so it would have been nice to see Bielma dial up a little, just go for the throat, a play action, you know, kind of dump off something safe.
- 17:00SPEAKER_01: It's you know, I this it's one of those games where it's like, I mean, I thought you're right.
- 17:04SPEAKER_01: I mean, Illinois is not competing for the Big Ten championship, probably.
- 17:08SPEAKER_01: And they're this is a this is a game where they're not waiting for Michigan.
- 17:11SPEAKER_01: They have if Illinois wants to beat Michigan in the big house, they have to play foot on the gas the whole time.
- 17:17SPEAKER_01: I totally agree with you.
- 17:20SPEAKER_02: They went into a shell.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: How about some play action?
- 17:24SPEAKER_01: Everybody thinks you're giving him the ball.
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: That's already set up.
- 17:26SPEAKER_01: Michigan has probably got eight, nine guys in the box anyway.
- 17:29SPEAKER_01: Like, go win the game, go get two first downs and win the game.
- 17:31SPEAKER_01: And yeah, um, Illinois just uh didn't want to do it.
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: They weren't the only team to do this towards the end of the game this week, but uh that that's what that was.
- 17:38SPEAKER_01: Uh Blake Quorum, uh their Heisman candidate running back for Michigan, hurt, didn't play in the second half at all.
- 17:44SPEAKER_01: Watch that because honestly, you know, as bad as Ohio State's defense is, um, Michigan's offense without Blake Quorum, I know they're getting Donovan Edwards back, who's their backup back, who's really strong.
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: He didn't play even the Illinois, but he's supposed to he's supposed to play against Michigan against Ohio State.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: But Blake Quorum is a difference maker, and quite frankly, maybe a Heisman candidate running back this year.
- 18:06SPEAKER_01: If he doesn't play, JJ McCarthy's good, he's not that good.
- 18:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's the other, that's the other takeaway.
- 18:12SPEAKER_02: I mean, outside of the game, this is the the moving forward, especially looking at Ohio State.
- 18:17SPEAKER_02: Will he or won't he play?
- 18:18SPEAKER_02: I think he'll play.
- 18:19SPEAKER_02: Um, but will he be 100%?
- 18:22SPEAKER_02: Um, and will he be able to do you know typical um Blake Quorum things?
- 18:29SPEAKER_02: So that's the big thing to keep an eye on there.
- 18:32SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 18:33SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, I'm I'm I'm I'm worried that the six yards of carry.
- 18:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:38SPEAKER_01: I'm worried that they are in trouble without Blake, but we'll, you know, we shall see.
- 18:42SPEAKER_01: Uh number four, TCU beat our Baylor Bears in just heartbreaking fashion.
- 18:46SPEAKER_01: I'm so sad game.
- 18:48SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: I'm so sad about my Bears.
- 18:51SPEAKER_01: I'm so bad about Dave Aranda.
- 18:52SPEAKER_01: 29-28.
- 18:54SPEAKER_01: Um, this game was a wild finish.
- 18:56SPEAKER_01: Um, Baylor had the lead in the fourth quarter.
- 18:58SPEAKER_01: Uh TCU scored a touchdown.
- 19:00SPEAKER_01: They needed a two-point conversion, didn't get it.
- 19:02SPEAKER_01: Uh, got the ball back, drove down the field, kicked the field goal with 16.
- 19:07SPEAKER_01: Uh, they ran a play.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: The clock was running.
- 19:09SPEAKER_01: They ran the run play.
- 19:11SPEAKER_01: Run play, run play.
- 19:12SPEAKER_01: Got tackled in bounds, didn't get a first down, chain said move, no stop clock, 16 clock, 16 seconds.
- 19:17SPEAKER_01: The clock is running.
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: They run their field goal unit out there.
- 19:20SPEAKER_01: That kicker in like some kind of wet rain, a little windy stuff, drills a 46, 47 yarder to win and beat Baylor by one point.
- 19:29SPEAKER_01: And TCU is they're 11-0.
- 19:32SPEAKER_01: I guess.
- 19:33SPEAKER_01: I guess I I guess they're they just keep winning these games.
- 19:36SPEAKER_01: They can't keep getting away with this.
- 19:37SPEAKER_01: I guess they're a great team.
- 19:39SPEAKER_01: I don't know what else to, you know.
- 19:40SPEAKER_01: Like, I there anybody who's 11-0 is a great team, I guess.
- 19:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I no, they are.
- 19:44SPEAKER_02: They are a great team.
- 19:46SPEAKER_02: Um, that was this is another situation where Baylor kind of played not to lose a little bit.
- 19:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 19:52SPEAKER_02: And it this is the new college football.
- 19:56SPEAKER_02: You gotta go for it on fourth downs.
- 19:58SPEAKER_02: You gotta attack, attack, attack.
- 20:00SPEAKER_02: You can't you can't run the ball, punt, play defense unless you're Georgia.
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: And this is the exact same situation with Baylor where they had the chance to they had the chance to get a first down or two and get them off.
- 20:09SPEAKER_01: Ice the game.
- 20:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, ice the game.
- 20:11SPEAKER_01: And it's the same situation.
- 20:11SPEAKER_01: Like for Baylor, if they win this game, they're seven and four.
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: If they lose six and five, what's the difference?
- 20:18SPEAKER_01: Play to win.
- 20:19SPEAKER_01: Like you're you're not, you know, you are not the undefeated team.
- 20:21SPEAKER_01: You're not TCU.
- 20:22SPEAKER_01: TCU not making that, not saying we're the better team.
- 20:25SPEAKER_01: We don't we don't think they can drive the field on us, or you know, playing that more conservative route, like a more talented, better record, that makes sense to me.
- 20:33SPEAKER_01: But when you're behind and you have a chance to knockout punch an undefeated, like biggest win for Baylor all year, and just just take it.
- 20:41SPEAKER_01: Play play throw the ball.
- 20:42SPEAKER_01: Don't worry about the clock for once.
- 20:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I agree with you.
- 20:44SPEAKER_02: That was an instant classic.
- 20:46SPEAKER_02: That was a great game.
- 20:47SPEAKER_01: Did you see the press conference after the game?
- 20:48SPEAKER_01: Sony Dykes was talking about uh that kick, and he was saying he was like, he was super nonchalant.
- 20:53SPEAKER_01: Like the the you have to go watch the end of this game.
- 20:55SPEAKER_01: The have like there's they ran the ball, the clock was running, the place was freaking out.
- 21:00SPEAKER_01: That kicker got the the the credit TCU special teams, they were out there.
- 21:04SPEAKER_01: That guy was lined up.
- 21:05SPEAKER_01: The kicker even had a second to be like, okay.
- 21:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they have he had time.
- 21:09SPEAKER_01: It was a little, it was frantic, but he had time.
- 21:12SPEAKER_01: And and Sonny Dykes after when the press conference was like, Yeah, we practice it that way all the time.
- 21:16SPEAKER_01: It's like, no, you don't, but just super, super impressive.
- 21:20SPEAKER_01: He's apparently um one of the TCU beat writers said they actually do practice it with 12 seconds to get it out there off in 12 seconds, and they had 16 in the game, but I just like I don't think anybody plans on their undefeated season being on the line with your field goal kicker unit running onto the field uh an away game down by two.
- 21:39SPEAKER_02: I just I don't think it's no, no, but they did dial up a run play, so you know when you call that play, you you're ready.
- 21:48SPEAKER_02: I mean, you call the play with the with with hey, everybody get ready because when this if this doesn't pop for first down, you're out there.
- 21:56SPEAKER_02: So I mean But yeah, they they had their they had it together.
- 22:01SPEAKER_01: Kudos for them.
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: Uh TCU rolls on.
- 22:04SPEAKER_01: Um number five, Tennessee.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: Uh 38, South Carolina, 63.
- 22:11SPEAKER_01: Uh what a showing from Spencer Rattler.
- 22:15SPEAKER_01: This is your game.
- 22:16SPEAKER_01: Tell me, tell me, give me the give me the post, give me the post mortem.
- 22:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah, this is um really painful to talk about.
- 22:23SPEAKER_02: This is basically the biggest disappointment of a of a game of a lot as a ball fan in decades, just with everything on the line.
- 22:34SPEAKER_02: Um, if you would have asked any anybody if they want if if they would be a Okay with 10 and 2, of course.
- 22:41SPEAKER_02: You're playing LSU at LSU, you're playing Bama, you're playing Georgia, you've got Florida who's been dominant over you.
- 22:47SPEAKER_02: 10 and 2, great.
- 22:49SPEAKER_02: You would not expect that lot one of those losses to come from a mediocre South Carolina team.
- 22:56SPEAKER_02: So it's it was it's been a really tough pill to swallow.
- 22:59SPEAKER_02: It was kind of a perfect storm.
- 23:01SPEAKER_02: I think that you know we had Jeremy Banks, who's our you know, kind of leader on the defensive uh side, linebacker out.
- 23:10SPEAKER_02: Um Hendon Hooker obviously goes down late, not super impactful to the game necessarily, but um he's done for the season.
- 23:18SPEAKER_02: That's that's really terrible.
- 23:21SPEAKER_02: Um Brew McCoy, one of our top wideouts, went out.
- 23:25SPEAKER_02: Just a lot of we had guys in the secondary go down like flies, and Spencer Rattler just looks like a world beater.
- 23:32SPEAKER_02: We were unprepared.
- 23:34SPEAKER_02: We just looked like we expected to win.
- 23:36SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and that's really been uncharacteristic for this team.
- 23:40SPEAKER_02: I think it's one of those situations where it's a this is why you don't see teams compete for a national championship necessarily in one year or year two, because it's just hard to handle success, especially when in this day and age when you've got media and all these kids so tuned into social media, and I think this is just a product of that.
- 24:03SPEAKER_01: And I mean, it's also and also like you said a lot, like it's also it also takes that takes that takes time to build up that kind of depth.
- 24:08SPEAKER_01: You know, Hypel's, I mean, Hypel's 21 months away from a bad ten taking over a bad Tennessee team.
- 24:14SPEAKER_01: When you talk about all the guys that went out, and we know we know this, we know the secondary has been vulnerable.
- 24:19SPEAKER_01: Um, my takeaway is a you know, kind of probably relatively impartial observer, uh, Spencer Rattler had the game of his career.
- 24:25SPEAKER_01: He looks like like this is what Spencer Rattler was supposed to be when he came from Oklahoma and wasn't for 10 games.
- 24:33SPEAKER_01: Um, maybe he can do it again against Clemson next week.
- 24:35SPEAKER_01: We'll talk about that, but he looked unbelievable taking and he was hitting his guys.
- 24:40SPEAKER_01: Um, I I felt like it felt like to me that Tennessee couldn't get pressure.
- 24:44SPEAKER_01: Tennessee does really well when they can get pressure, every everybody does well when they when they can get pressure.
- 24:47SPEAKER_01: It felt like Tennessee couldn't get couldn't get to Spencer the way they'd gotten to Jane Daniels and Bryce Young and uh Anthony Richardson, like they had all year.
- 24:57SPEAKER_01: And when that didn't happen, um Spencer Rattler had the game of his life and was able to take care, take advantage of Tennessee's secondary.
- 25:03SPEAKER_01: That's what that's what kind of felt like the story um to me.
- 25:07SPEAKER_01: Super bummer about Hen Hooker.
- 25:09SPEAKER_01: Everybody, you know, one thing I will say kind of silver linings, everybody on every message board, even the crazy fans.
- 25:15SPEAKER_01: Heddenhooker was an absolute phenomena, and we are all lucky to have got to enjoy him play college football Tennessee this year.
- 25:23SPEAKER_01: Everybody is bummed that he was out.
- 25:25SPEAKER_01: You hate to see that.
- 25:26SPEAKER_01: You know, we you want to beat your rivals and you want to joke and make the funds, but like going out with an ACL being done for the year, like that's well that's his that's the end of his career at Tennessee, which you know he's done so much for the program to turn it around uh in such a short amount of time, um, to not be able to finish it off, even if that ending is in the cotton bowl or you know, the orange bowl or wherever, sure, you know, um is really sad for him.
- 25:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, absolutely.
- 25:57SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 25:57SPEAKER_01: And I, you know, I have a silver lining glass.
- 25:59SPEAKER_01: I mean, you know me, I'm an optimist, I'm a glass half full kind of guy.
- 26:02SPEAKER_01: You know this about me.
- 26:03SPEAKER_01: Since Tennessee, and I've had this conversation with you offline, or maybe it was on one of the first early season pods.
- 26:09SPEAKER_01: If your team isn't in the playoff, bowl games are just kind of like glorified spring games.
- 26:15SPEAKER_01: I know Tennessee is gonna go to a great bowl game.
- 26:17SPEAKER_01: LSU is probably gonna go to knock on the playoff, probably go to one similar as well.
- 26:21SPEAKER_01: My point is obviously losing Hen Hooker is terrible, but this Joe Milton is probably the guy who's right, Joe Milton's gonna be the guy we think next year, Tennessee.
- 26:29SPEAKER_02: There should be a pretty good quarterback battle next year.
- 26:31SPEAKER_02: Um, Tavon Jackson, who's a four-star, has a bit on the bench.
- 26:35SPEAKER_02: He's out with I think a collarbone.
- 26:37SPEAKER_02: He went down early after playing like a dozen snaps against a non-conference.
- 26:42SPEAKER_02: Um, but yeah, it's it next year is is Nico, who's a five-star, Tavon Jackson, four-star, or Joe Milton transfer, previous four-star.
- 26:49SPEAKER_02: So here's my he's probably the guy given his experience and and his knowledge of the system.
- 26:54SPEAKER_02: At least has the inside track.
- 26:55SPEAKER_02: Here's my old, he'll be he'll be like eligibility.
- 27:00SPEAKER_01: He was a Michigan transfer, he'd be he's been in Broadcott for a while.
- 27:02SPEAKER_01: Here's my here's my silver lining take about that.
- 27:05SPEAKER_01: The bowl game is going to be another month where Joe Milton is the guy running with the ones, developing rapport with them, getting to know the receivers and in a way that's different than you are if you're the backup running with the twos.
- 27:17SPEAKER_01: You know, this is going to what what this will do is gonna give Tennessee's offense, Joe Milton specifically, a big leg up going into spring, going into 2023, which can only be beneficial.
- 27:27SPEAKER_01: Obviously, you want Hedden Hooker taking those plays no matter what game you're going to, but if there's a silver lining, it's that Joe Milton is gonna have Tennessee's full attention and best training uh to take that job next year, which is only gonna help the quarterback room.
- 27:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, absolutely.
- 27:41SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 27:42SPEAKER_01: Uh let's talk.
- 27:43SPEAKER_01: Let's go next.
- 27:44SPEAKER_01: Uh, number six, LSU, uh UAB 41-10.
- 27:47SPEAKER_01: This was a great game because we saw the offense wake up.
- 27:49SPEAKER_01: Uh last last week was the crazy cold uh defensive slug match with Arkansas in Fayetteville.
- 27:55SPEAKER_01: This was in Baton Rouge.
- 27:56SPEAKER_01: Um, senior night.
- 27:57SPEAKER_01: It was wet and soaking.
- 27:59SPEAKER_01: Not a lot of, not a lot of pull, not a lot to talk about.
- 28:01SPEAKER_01: Uh 41-10.
- 28:03SPEAKER_01: We did exactly what we were supposed to do.
- 28:05SPEAKER_01: Um, the only thing that was kind of kind of interesting, it kind of has to do with what you said.
- 28:08SPEAKER_01: Kayshawn Boutey uh had the flu.
- 28:10SPEAKER_01: He was in war-ups, couldn't didn't play.
- 28:12SPEAKER_01: And what happened was Malik Neighbors, who we think Kayshawn Boutte is going to the NFL draft next year.
- 28:17SPEAKER_01: He's gone.
- 28:17SPEAKER_01: Malik Neighbors, who's supposed to be number two, had a big day.
- 28:20SPEAKER_01: Seven carries, 129 yards.
- 28:22SPEAKER_01: We are now starting to look at this team like wondering like who is going to step up when Kayshawn Bout leaves when he when he takes the top target.
- 28:29SPEAKER_01: And we're all hoping that kind of Malik Neighbors can be that guy.
- 28:32SPEAKER_01: So he kind of took a step towards that.
- 28:34SPEAKER_01: But other than that, that was the only thing I have on this game.
- 28:36SPEAKER_01: Anything you want to sprinkle in?
- 28:38SPEAKER_02: Is Jaden Daniels going to stick around next year?
- 28:41SPEAKER_02: Because he's kind of had he's had a good enough year where he's kind of it's a question for him.
- 28:45SPEAKER_01: It is very much a question, and our team will look wildly different without him.
- 28:48SPEAKER_01: Um, I think he will, because I haven't seen any mocks or projections having him really certain speed really high, especially as a quarterback yet.
- 28:57SPEAKER_01: So the early signs.
- 28:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's a pretty it's a deep quarterback class.
- 29:00SPEAKER_01: It's also a deep quarterback class.
- 29:02SPEAKER_01: I think I think people seem to think he will come back, but with transfer portal, with NIL, with the draft being if he if he hires an agent that sells him otherwise, maybe he'll go.
- 29:13SPEAKER_01: My money, if I'm if you're asking me to pick right now, I'm saying he stays, and I hope he does, but I could obviously be totally wrong about that.
- 29:18SPEAKER_01: So but let's let's keep rolling from that.
- 29:20SPEAKER_01: Uh uh, number seven USC in a barn burner.
- 29:24SPEAKER_01: I don't know if you say it for this one.
- 29:25SPEAKER_02: This was I did because I was wallowing.
- 29:27SPEAKER_02: I was I was up reading message boards and like watching the game and like trying to distract myself.
- 29:37SPEAKER_01: Totally, totally number seven USC 48.
- 29:40SPEAKER_01: Uh number 16 UCLA 45.
- 29:42SPEAKER_01: Caleb Williams is awesome.
- 29:44SPEAKER_01: Jordan Addison is awesome.
- 29:47SPEAKER_01: Um, USC continues to, I mean, so two things.
- 29:52SPEAKER_01: These are my two takes.
- 29:53SPEAKER_01: One, that that all you know, you brought Lincoln Riley, the best offensive cord offensive brain in college football, and a superstar quarterback, superstar receiver, and lo and behold, you score a lot of points.
- 30:04SPEAKER_01: That's exactly what they did.
- 30:06SPEAKER_01: Um they are still they got they got so many turnovers.
- 30:10SPEAKER_01: Their defense is giving up gobs of points, but they're still getting all these turnovers.
- 30:14SPEAKER_01: At some point, that's gonna end, right?
- 30:16SPEAKER_02: Well, this was the Heisman moment for Caleb Williams.
- 30:20SPEAKER_02: Even though it was late and most of the country might have missed it, the stats are still there.
- 30:26SPEAKER_02: I mean, he went 470, um, two touchdowns.
- 30:30SPEAKER_02: I mean, he he was awesome.
- 30:31SPEAKER_02: Austin Jones played well too, but he was awesome.
- 30:34SPEAKER_02: Um Dorian Thompson Robinson played really well too, but he threw three interceptions.
- 30:38SPEAKER_02: And yeah, I mean they had a chance to win the game or well drive to to to push to win the game late or tie, and he threw a pick.
- 30:46SPEAKER_02: And yeah, I don't know.
- 30:47SPEAKER_02: USC, there's something to be said for you know, a trend like this.
- 30:53SPEAKER_02: I mean, typically turnovers are a stat that you can't hang your hat on and you you can't really predict, but at some point in the season, this being the end of it, that's who you are.
- 31:05SPEAKER_02: And it's gotta be the way that they're playing defense.
- 31:07SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's high risk, high reward.
- 31:09SPEAKER_02: You're gonna give up points, you're gonna give up yards.
- 31:12SPEAKER_02: But if you get two turnovers, three turnovers, or whatever, it doesn't matter because your offense is so good.
- 31:18SPEAKER_02: And really, I think that's the way that Tennessee is trying to play defense.
- 31:21SPEAKER_02: And it works sometimes, and obviously sometimes it doesn't.
- 31:25SPEAKER_02: But yeah, if they go up a good enough offense that doesn't turn the ball over, they're they'll they're probably in trouble.
- 31:30SPEAKER_01: There's just so much volatility and just kind of randomness involved in turnovers, you know, like a running back doesn't put it away, he slips his hand, a deflected ball just happens to go to a defender.
- 31:40SPEAKER_01: Like there's you my point is you just I keep waiting for this to this trend of USC's just high turnover rate on defense, which is awesome, to regress to the mean.
- 31:48SPEAKER_01: Like I keep thinking at some point they're gonna stop getting all these.
- 31:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but if you're if you're dialing up enough pressures, you know, and and you know, you may get beat on the back end, but you're forcing interceptions through blitzes and and you know, exotic exotic zone blitzes and schemes and things to where um yeah, I mean, kudos to Alex Drench for dialing it up.
- 32:10SPEAKER_01: I'm just I if that's true and it's and it really is in his scheme more than luck, then kudos and Alex Drench is a better decent coordinator than I should give him credit for.
- 32:18SPEAKER_01: Uh, I I'm also a little surprised he threw three picks given how well they were running the ball.
- 32:23SPEAKER_01: 37 carries, 204 yards, five and a half yards a clip.
- 32:26SPEAKER_01: Charbonnet, um, DTR, they were carrying the ball with pretty much at ease, however they wanted with USC.
- 32:33SPEAKER_01: This is you know, like, and that's kind of why I think a team like maybe like Notre Dame next week might knock them off because like they're so Notre Dame can run.
- 32:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Notre Dame can run the ball.
- 32:41SPEAKER_01: Like they can run sin.
- 32:42SPEAKER_01: Like, I'm there's there's part of me that kind of thinks we might see that again just because they're gonna they're going to play big physical, push, push the ball around, uh, running running game.
- 32:51SPEAKER_01: And USC probably wants to play fast and play aggressive.
- 32:54SPEAKER_01: I don't know if that's going to translate to a team like Notre Dame.
- 32:56SPEAKER_01: I wouldn't be surprised at all if Notre Dame seems all of them.
- 32:58SPEAKER_01: My point is UCLA could have could have and maybe should have won this game if they didn't get so aggressive.
- 33:04SPEAKER_01: I don't think if I think if they had shown some more patience and just stuck with the run game, they probably could have grinded it out.
- 33:09SPEAKER_02: But yeah, we could easily be I mean, I don't say this with any exaggeration.
- 33:14SPEAKER_02: We could easily be talking about the top five teams having lost.
- 33:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 33:19SPEAKER_02: Well, I mean Yeah.
- 33:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, including Georgia almost losing Missouri.
- 33:24SPEAKER_01: That's they're every they've all they've all.
- 33:25SPEAKER_02: Well, no, I mean to Kentucky, and that was a close game.
- 33:28SPEAKER_02: It you know, all it takes.
- 33:29SPEAKER_02: I mean, you can play a close style like that.
- 33:31SPEAKER_02: All it takes is a scoop and score, a random special teams blunder.
- 33:36SPEAKER_02: All of these games were just well, Tennessee's wasn't uh, but all these other games were were one possession, tight, tight, tight.
- 33:45SPEAKER_02: Tight, tight, tight, tight, tight, tight.
- 33:47SPEAKER_01: Kudos to USC there.
- 33:48SPEAKER_01: Obviously, in the inside track for the Pac 12.
- 33:49SPEAKER_01: Uh one more game to go.
- 33:51SPEAKER_01: Kudos to them.
- 33:52SPEAKER_01: Uh, number 12, Oregon.
- 33:54SPEAKER_01: Uh bouncing back after two absolute beatdowns from this team last year.
- 33:58SPEAKER_01: Take down number 10, Utah, uh 20 to 10, uh 20 to 17, excuse me.
- 34:03SPEAKER_01: Um, Bo Knicks was on one leg for this game.
- 34:06SPEAKER_01: He's clearly hurt.
- 34:07SPEAKER_01: Uh, was not the guy he was supposed to be.
- 34:09SPEAKER_01: Um, Cam Rising uh pretty much only wants to throw the ball uh to Dalton Kincaid.
- 34:14SPEAKER_01: 11 catches, 99 yards.
- 34:16SPEAKER_01: That's their tight end, if you're wondering, by the way.
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: Um uh kudos to Oregon for just hanging tough and getting a win that monkey off their back.
- 34:24SPEAKER_01: Because I mean, Utah, being just the like overly physical team that they always are, have had Oregon's number.
- 34:31SPEAKER_01: They didn't have the night.
- 34:32SPEAKER_02: Let's see, yeah, it seems like Oregon has learned a little something um from their previous matchups.
- 34:38SPEAKER_02: Um Utah, I mean, three picks from Cam rising.
- 34:42SPEAKER_02: This game goes the other way.
- 34:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he just didn't play well, frankly.
- 34:46SPEAKER_01: I just might just expect him to.
- 34:48SPEAKER_01: I mean, I recognize that like obviously it's it's a tough place to play.
- 34:51SPEAKER_01: Um, but I just Cam rising has been around for so long.
- 34:54SPEAKER_01: And I guess maybe he's on the road to me.
- 34:55SPEAKER_01: He looked bad.
- 34:56SPEAKER_01: I mean, we're going all the way back to week one.
- 34:57SPEAKER_01: He's had these kind of bad performances on the road.
- 35:00SPEAKER_01: I hate to I hate to scapegoat him like that because he's just better than that.
- 35:04SPEAKER_01: He's a good quarterback.
- 35:05SPEAKER_01: He should he shouldn't be doing that.
- 35:07SPEAKER_01: But yeah, you can't throw three picks in Outson against this Oregon team and expect to win, frankly.
- 35:13SPEAKER_01: Uh, anything else wanted on that one?
- 35:16SPEAKER_02: No, I think that's a quick one for me.
- 35:18SPEAKER_01: Cool.
- 35:18SPEAKER_01: Uh, number 13, North Carolina goes down to the coachless Georgia Tech, who Hornets Nest, our favorite team, Yellow Jackets, uh 17-21.
- 35:29SPEAKER_01: Uh, Georgia Tech fired its coach like a month and a half ago.
- 35:31SPEAKER_01: They are one game away from a bull.
- 35:33SPEAKER_01: They're not gonna go to it because it's against Georgia next week, but good for them.
- 35:37SPEAKER_01: They are within bull eligibility.
- 35:39SPEAKER_01: Um, UNC uh goes down.
- 35:42SPEAKER_01: Uh for me, this is just a case of just Drake May.
- 35:45SPEAKER_01: Just let them down.
- 35:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Georgia Tech's been really scrappy.
- 35:49SPEAKER_02: I know that I mean they've kind of been ACC whipping boy this year, but ever since that coaching you know termination, they've had a lot of life, and there's something to be said for that.
- 36:00SPEAKER_01: Um yeah, I have written down actually here Jeff Collins addition by subtraction.
- 36:04SPEAKER_01: I think he was holding that team back.
- 36:06SPEAKER_01: I think, I mean, I recognize Georgia Tech doesn't have a ton of talent, but I just think I don't think he was messing well.
- 36:10SPEAKER_01: I don't think his scheme was was well designed and well executed.
- 36:14SPEAKER_01: And when Georgia Tech doesn't have that and they can just kind of play fast and loose, and with nothing to lose, because they just fired their coach, um, they could do some things.
- 36:21SPEAKER_01: Um, I I I I'll tell you, I didn't think you and I really didn't think UNC was gonna lose.
- 36:27SPEAKER_01: Uh that's that's I Georgia Tech, an opportunistic team, good for them, right?
- 36:32SPEAKER_02: Well, the other thing is this was not a fluky game with like five turnovers.
- 36:38SPEAKER_02: Georgia Tech played them even across the board and just edged them out.
- 36:43SPEAKER_02: This they just won, they barely won the game.
- 36:45SPEAKER_02: They did enough, but yeah, um, it was just a very evenly played back and forth game.
- 36:51SPEAKER_02: Uh, you didn't see UNC's high powered offense whatsoever.
- 36:55SPEAKER_02: They just both looked like you know, very solidly coached teams with yeah, it's just not what you expected at all.
- 37:02SPEAKER_01: No, I kind of think cost, I kinda think it probably cost Drake May the Heisman because frankly, his numbers were so good up until you know, get putting laying an egg like this at home against a Georgia Tech team, it's just you can't you can't do that.
- 37:15SPEAKER_02: What happens this time of the year matters so much where Drake May and CJ Stroud both didn't do that well, and then you have Caleb Williams just put up a big time night.
- 37:24SPEAKER_02: CJ Stroud still still has time to redeem himself because he's got probably the biggest game of the year this week.
- 37:30SPEAKER_02: So we'll see.
- 37:31SPEAKER_01: And same for Blake Horm.
- 37:32SPEAKER_01: If Blake Horm is in fact healthy and he is in fact playing, if he has a monster day, if you know if Michigan rides him to a victory, I could easily see him vaulting himself into the water.
- 37:40SPEAKER_02: He pops off for 200 you know on Ohio State.
- 37:43SPEAKER_01: Totally, totally, totally.
- 37:44SPEAKER_01: I was inside that you I was surprised the UNC did not score.
- 37:47SPEAKER_01: They were up 17-7 at the halftime, and they just didn't score.
- 37:50SPEAKER_01: Uh so kudos to Georgia Tech fighting like hell, getting a big, big win.
- 37:54SPEAKER_01: I wish, I wish the sixth game, your your 12th game was against anybody else in the country, so Georgia Tech could go bowling.
- 38:01SPEAKER_01: Unfortunately, it's against the University of Georgia, and you will just will not get it, you're not gonna get that one.
- 38:05SPEAKER_01: I'm sorry.
- 38:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, sorry about it.
- 38:07SPEAKER_01: Um, number 14, Ole Miss uh uh goes down uh 27-42.
- 38:14SPEAKER_01: That score does not describe the game, it was 35 to 6 at halftime.
- 38:19SPEAKER_01: Kudos to Ole Miss uh scoring 21 points in garbage time, which was effectively the entire fourth quarter to make it a two-score game.
- 38:27SPEAKER_01: But um Arkansas just put it on them.
- 38:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and I wish I could say I saw this coming.
- 38:33SPEAKER_02: I did not, I did not, I did not see it coming at all, but I I do think Ole Miss has has been cropped up a little bit and not as good as their ranking and schedule and stats and stuff have have appeared.
- 38:45SPEAKER_02: Uh, I didn't think this would go down like this, though, at all, whatsoever.
- 38:49SPEAKER_01: No, the but I I didn't either, but I think I should have because what they did last week against um Alabama, which was play an incredibly physical game, they could have won, and they were obviously, you know, that the game that that was a monster moment for Ole Miss.
- 39:02SPEAKER_01: They came up a little short at the very end, um, didn't get didn't get didn't get the end zone.
- 39:05SPEAKER_01: So here's Ole Miss, tired, body blow theory for sure, wounded, and they're playing an Arkansas team that is very physical and loves to run the ball.
- 39:14SPEAKER_01: Not Ole Miss's forte is run defense, and what happens?
- 39:17SPEAKER_01: Rocket Sanders goes 24 carries, 232 yards, three touchdowns.
- 39:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he had an insane day.
- 39:23SPEAKER_02: And this is exactly what we what you hear everyone talk about every year when you play your Georgians or Bamas, don't get beat twice.
- 39:31SPEAKER_01: This is and that's exactly what happened this game.
- 39:33SPEAKER_01: Arkansas is not the team, they play such a physical brand of football that they are just they are the team that you cannot cruise to after a big game, win or lose.
- 39:43SPEAKER_01: They demand your full attention.
- 39:45SPEAKER_01: And this is why LSU has lost to them so many times after a bad L Bama loss in the last decade.
- 39:51SPEAKER_01: You know, we we go into Fayetteville or they come here thinking we're gonna roll and they're ready for us because they're they're they want to get a win.
- 39:59SPEAKER_01: We're looking ahead to whatever the ex bowl game, and they they come and bite you in.
- 40:03SPEAKER_01: That's that's what that's that's what this whole game kind of feels like to me.
- 40:05SPEAKER_01: It's just Ole Miss never showed up.
- 40:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that being said, um, Ole Miss is a little too one-dimensional, but they're still the best, probably power five running team with the best running back combo in the power five.
- 40:19SPEAKER_02: I mean, Quinchon Junkins went for 214, Zach Evans went for 207.
- 40:24SPEAKER_02: Uh, they still put up like 700 yards.
- 40:27SPEAKER_02: So, I mean, it's not like I mean, they still did what they do on the ground, they just, you know, they don't have much else.
- 40:33SPEAKER_02: And KJ Jefferson, Arkansas had a healthy KJ Jefferson back who threw for three touchdowns, and he hasn't been healthy in like four weeks.
- 40:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they're a different team with him for sure.
- 40:44SPEAKER_01: Uh, number nine, uh Clemson, uh 40, uh 40, uh Miami 10.
- 40:49SPEAKER_01: Uh Clemson is not dead.
- 40:52SPEAKER_01: Miami is very dead.
- 40:54SPEAKER_01: Been dead.
- 40:54SPEAKER_02: Very dead.
- 40:55SPEAKER_02: Been dead.
- 40:56SPEAKER_02: Just big dead.
- 40:57SPEAKER_02: They're weekend at Bernie's right now.
- 40:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I I I checked the box.
- 41:00SPEAKER_01: I didn't even watch this game.
- 41:01SPEAKER_01: I don't I don't I don't have much I don't have anything to say about it.
- 41:03SPEAKER_01: Um, I don't know what Mario Christopher's doing.
- 41:05SPEAKER_01: They're five and six.
- 41:06SPEAKER_01: Um, I'm I'm not sure who they have next week.
- 41:08SPEAKER_01: They're fighting for a bowl.
- 41:09SPEAKER_01: They have pit with no gimme.
- 41:11SPEAKER_01: Um, they're fighting for their bowl life.
- 41:13SPEAKER_02: No, Pitts gonna win that game and end up eight and four.
- 41:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 41:16SPEAKER_01: Um Mario Crystal Ball's year one probably couldn't go on much worse.
- 41:20SPEAKER_01: I then Jimbo Fisher might have the worst open worst first year, though.
- 41:23SPEAKER_01: Um, Clemson just did what they're supposed to do.
- 41:26SPEAKER_01: Good for them.
- 41:27SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 41:27SPEAKER_02: Clemson still got a shot in the playoffs.
- 41:30SPEAKER_01: Still got a shot.
- 41:31SPEAKER_01: Uh Bedlam.
- 41:31SPEAKER_01: Let's talk about Oklahoma, Oklahoma State.
- 41:33SPEAKER_01: This is the annual rivalry between the two schools.
- 41:35SPEAKER_01: Uh uh Oklahoma 28, number 22, Oklahoma State 13, 15-point game.
- 41:41SPEAKER_01: This game was 28-0 after the first quarter.
- 41:44SPEAKER_01: Um, and it just felt like you again, Oklahoma State hasn't shown up.
- 41:48SPEAKER_01: We have now seen like four bad weeks in a row at Oklahoma State.
- 41:51SPEAKER_01: What is going on in Stillwater?
- 41:53SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 41:54SPEAKER_02: Uh, this is college football, though, in a nutshell.
- 41:56SPEAKER_02: I mean, Oklahoma left for dead.
- 41:59SPEAKER_02: Oklahoma State having a great year.
- 42:00SPEAKER_02: Oklahoma blew them out.
- 42:02SPEAKER_02: This was, I mean, it doesn't show it.
- 42:04SPEAKER_02: This is a blowout.
- 42:05SPEAKER_02: Um, you've got this is was just a crazy weekend of college football.
- 42:10SPEAKER_02: All the top teams struggled.
- 42:11SPEAKER_02: You had blowouts in places you didn't expect blowouts.
- 42:14SPEAKER_02: Uh Oklahoma, which we gave the edge to, but we it was on a feeling, kind of a gut feeling.
- 42:20SPEAKER_02: And they just they showed up.
- 42:22SPEAKER_02: They finally put it together a little bit.
- 42:24SPEAKER_01: Not it's not often that you blow out another team where you only score in the first quarter.
- 42:27SPEAKER_01: Oklahoma did not score any points in the second, third, or fourth quarter, still won by two scores.
- 42:33SPEAKER_01: Uh, just came out, pounced on the game.
- 42:34SPEAKER_01: Insane didn't have it.
- 42:35SPEAKER_01: Oklahoma State is in some weird funks.
- 42:37SPEAKER_01: Mike Gundy has got them spiraling.
- 42:40SPEAKER_01: They're averaging 12 points a game over their last three, which is wild for a Mike Gundy coached Oklahoma State team, yeah, which have just had such prolific offenses in the past.
- 42:49SPEAKER_01: Um, and Spencer Sanders, who's like a 27th year senior.
- 42:53SPEAKER_01: Like, there's no excuse.
- 42:54SPEAKER_01: I mean, I recognize he's not, I recognize he's not Joe Montana, but there's no excuse not for Spencer Sanders to do well and have them in position to win.
- 43:02SPEAKER_01: He had he's he threw for 300, he threw the ball 67 times, 381 yards, still lost by two scores.
- 43:09SPEAKER_01: Um, just that just stings, just stings.
- 43:11SPEAKER_01: Um, I I will say one other one.
- 43:14SPEAKER_01: This this is this probably the second to last or third to last battle in this game because Oklahoma's moving to the SEC, as we all know, which has just got to make it so much worse for Oklahoma State fans.
- 43:25SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, you really want to stick it, you want to stick it to your rival who's leaving you.
- 43:29SPEAKER_01: You know, they're gonna they're they're kind of leaving Oklahoma at the altar here.
- 43:32SPEAKER_01: So I imagine well, yeah.
- 43:33SPEAKER_02: I mean, the loss of the rivalry is is just sad.
- 43:36SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's it's one more college football tradition that's going away.
- 43:40SPEAKER_02: And what is this sport if it's not tradition that's you know built into a couple hundred years of of the fabric of these programs?
- 43:51SPEAKER_01: I agree.
- 43:52SPEAKER_01: I agree.
- 43:52SPEAKER_01: I will say for Brent Venables, this is I'm gonna shed a tear.
- 43:56SPEAKER_01: I will say for uh for Brent Venables, this is a was was a very, very much, much needed win.
- 44:02SPEAKER_01: Um, especially with Texas Tech, which is no gimme next week.
- 44:05SPEAKER_01: They are six and five.
- 44:06SPEAKER_01: This buys him some time.
- 44:07SPEAKER_01: You know, these are the games.
- 44:08SPEAKER_01: Obviously, people are still mad at him for losing 49-0 to Texas, which is a obviously another huge no-no.
- 44:13SPEAKER_01: It's Oklahoma quarterback, but this was a game that he absolutely could not afford to lose, even in year one.
- 44:20SPEAKER_01: Um, and he didn't.
- 44:20SPEAKER_01: He won convincingly, one of our state rival.
- 44:23SPEAKER_01: There's a lot of boosters who live in the state of Oklahoma who that he will be happy.
- 44:28SPEAKER_01: They will be he will keep the dogs war at bay a little bit longer.
- 44:31SPEAKER_01: So good for him.
- 44:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean, you and I both know um college football fan bases are passionate, knee jerk reaction.
- 44:39SPEAKER_02: Like crazy.
- 44:41SPEAKER_02: And so, you know, it it's fire, fire, fire.
- 44:44SPEAKER_02: You win a big one that's like, okay, well, maybe he's not that bad.
- 44:47SPEAKER_02: I mean, it doesn't, it's not, it doesn't take much.
- 44:49SPEAKER_01: I mean, no, it doesn't take much, but there are, but you don't also agree with me, but there are some wins that just give you they're worth more, you know.
- 44:56SPEAKER_02: Like, yeah, yeah, that's what I'm saying.
- 44:58SPEAKER_02: It's this is a knee-jerk, like, okay, you changed my mind.
- 45:01SPEAKER_02: Uh we'll see.
- 45:03SPEAKER_02: We'll see.
- 45:03SPEAKER_01: You're still six and five, which is in probably it's not not where you're supposed to be if you're Oklahoma, but beating beating Oki State uh is definitely worth a bunch.
- 45:12SPEAKER_01: Uh, speaking of that rival we were just talking about a tech a second ago, uh, Texas.
- 45:17SPEAKER_01: Texas had a monster day.
- 45:19SPEAKER_01: Um, absolute uh Bijan Robinson absolutely goes off.
- 45:22SPEAKER_01: Huge day.
- 45:23SPEAKER_01: Um, this Texas team is so weird.
- 45:26SPEAKER_01: I really don't, I really don't know how how to how to describe it.
- 45:30SPEAKER_01: Um, 55 to 14 over Kansas, who's you know, back in the day, like Kansas, like that's a that's usually not the same, but Kansas is a pretty good team this year.
- 45:37SPEAKER_01: They're going boldly.
- 45:38SPEAKER_01: Um B.
- 45:39SPEAKER_01: John Robinson, 25 carries, 243 yards, four touchdowns.
- 45:43SPEAKER_01: He's just I don't think I don't I don't think Kansas has anybody on the field that can that can handle him.
- 45:47SPEAKER_02: Well, that's what they should have done against TCU.
- 45:52SPEAKER_02: And then TCU goes and gives up a billion yards and points to Baylor.
- 45:59SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's just been it's been nuts.
- 46:01SPEAKER_02: I mean, and and Baylor was able to run the ball effectively whenever they wanted up until the the very last drive.
- 46:08SPEAKER_02: Um so I mean, yeah, Bijan Robinson being bottled up and then bailing, you know, punting on on the run game um was a was a big mistake for Texas.
- 46:17SPEAKER_02: And here they are.
- 46:18SPEAKER_02: If they beat Baylor and TCU, or I'm sorry, Kansas State loses, Texas is playing for the Big 12 championship.
- 46:26SPEAKER_02: Good God, good grief.
- 46:28SPEAKER_02: Big 12 is nuts, man.
- 46:29SPEAKER_01: Big 12 is nuts.
- 46:30SPEAKER_01: And Quentin Heroes had did not have a good day.
- 46:32SPEAKER_01: 1221, 107 yards, 5.1 yards of reception, one touchdown, QBR63.1.
- 46:38SPEAKER_01: He's looking over his shoulder.
- 46:39SPEAKER_01: Arch Manning is gonna be on campus in like what six weeks?
- 46:44SPEAKER_01: Um, something like that.
- 46:45SPEAKER_01: You know, you know he's probably I don't know if he's early.
- 46:47SPEAKER_02: He's flipping his hair, waiting in the wind.
- 46:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that that mullet is worried.
- 46:53SPEAKER_01: Um, I I don't I just, you know, the this whole team has looked very Jekyll and Hyde, and a lot of that has been Quinn Ewers.
- 47:00SPEAKER_01: And this is one of those games.
- 47:01SPEAKER_02: Um luckily's not his fault because he's a true freshman and he was injured for a lot of the year.
- 47:07SPEAKER_02: So some of those expectations are were a little high to begin with.
- 47:11SPEAKER_02: They've still had a very good year.
- 47:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but he just looked bad against TCU, just like patently bad.
- 47:16SPEAKER_01: And then this week he's not he's not lighting his hair.
- 47:19SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 47:19SPEAKER_02: And TCU's defense has, you know, they've they've been good at times.
- 47:24SPEAKER_01: But that defense is 11-0, Mike.
- 47:26SPEAKER_01: I think we're all I think we all have now have to believe that it's good.
- 47:29SPEAKER_01: So I just you accept that as part of your um understanding college football.
- 47:33SPEAKER_01: Uh, but yeah.
- 47:34SPEAKER_02: All you have to do is is beat the team across from you that week.
- 47:38SPEAKER_02: And that's why we you know we see these this craziness is because it's matchup, it's so matchup oriented.
- 47:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's it's doing what you have to do on that day, and that changes week to week.
- 47:47SPEAKER_02: So teams that can look so differently.
- 47:50SPEAKER_02: I mean, TCU's given up points all year long.
- 47:55SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 47:56SPEAKER_01: Uh last one, uh, Virginia Tech.
- 47:59SPEAKER_01: Virginia Tech gets a monster win over now 8-3 Liberty 23-22.
- 48:05SPEAKER_01: Snaps there, I think six-game losing streak, seven-game losing streak.
- 48:09SPEAKER_01: Still gonna end with a pretty crummy record.
- 48:11SPEAKER_01: And Hokies obviously is not what they meant to be, but they got a win that they needed so bad.
- 48:16SPEAKER_01: Over a ranked opponent, over a ranked opponent who happened to be in state.
- 48:21SPEAKER_01: Um, I'm just so happy for the Hokies.
- 48:23SPEAKER_01: Uh, Jalen Holston, running back, uh, three six 26 carries, 99 yards, three touchdowns.
- 48:29SPEAKER_01: Really carried them um on the offense for this time.
- 48:32SPEAKER_01: Uh uh, just I am just really happy for the Hokies.
- 48:36SPEAKER_01: Way to get a win.
- 48:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, uh I didn't expect it.
- 48:40SPEAKER_02: Um, this is what should be happening, though.
- 48:42SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's it's kind of tough as a Virginia Tech fan.
- 48:46SPEAKER_02: You've got to be saying, like, yes, we should beat Liberty.
- 48:49SPEAKER_02: But Liberty's had a great year.
- 48:50SPEAKER_02: They're ranked, you're going to their house.
- 48:52SPEAKER_02: You've got um evil genius Hugh Freeze over there.
- 48:56SPEAKER_02: And they they went in there and they I think the biggest thing for me for this game is like they're still dialed in.
- 49:04SPEAKER_02: They're still giving it, you know, giving it their all.
- 49:07SPEAKER_02: You've still got the buy-in.
- 49:09SPEAKER_02: To me, that is more than the win, more than anything else, such a big positive for this program.
- 49:15SPEAKER_01: And kudos them for sticking to the run.
- 49:17SPEAKER_01: They averaged three yards a carry, 59 carries for 176 yards, three yards a clip, which is not great by any means.
- 49:24SPEAKER_01: And they stuck to it and they got the win.
- 49:27SPEAKER_01: Um, Grant Wells only threw for 148 yards, 14 of 20, 148 yards, seven half yards carry, no touchdowns, no picks.
- 49:34SPEAKER_01: We didn't turn the ball over, which Grant Wells has been totally susceptible of.
- 49:38SPEAKER_01: Uh, didn't fumble either.
- 49:39SPEAKER_02: Um, so and their defense has been pretty solid.
- 49:42SPEAKER_02: Um, but Liberty's got an explosive offense.
- 49:45SPEAKER_02: So um I think they wanted to let me let me check the stats here.
- 49:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they wanted to control the ball and kind of grind it out a little bit, which I think was a smart, smart way to approach the game.
- 49:57SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 49:58SPEAKER_01: I think Brent Pride knew he had to shorten this game as much as possible, even if that meant even if no, even if he meant an underwhelming rushing attack, which is what Virginia Tech's rushing attack has been all year, unfortunately, this year, but it was good enough today.
- 50:08SPEAKER_01: And they get a monster win over an A ranked Liberty Flames.
- 50:12SPEAKER_01: Uh, so I obviously I know they're disappointed in not playing the Commonwealth Cup against UVA next weekend, but ending the season on this win is a big one.
- 50:21SPEAKER_01: So my hats off to the hokies.
- 50:23SPEAKER_01: Uh, look forward to 2023.
- 50:25SPEAKER_01: Um anything else you want to do if we put a bow tie on UVA Tech or anything else this week before we jump into the following week?
- 50:32SPEAKER_02: No, let's keep it rolling and look ahead.
- 50:34SPEAKER_01: Sounds good.
- 50:35SPEAKER_01: Uh, very cool.
- 50:36SPEAKER_01: So uh now it's time to talk about Ravalry Week, which is, like I said, the best week of college football.
- 50:41SPEAKER_01: Uh, we're gonna talk about um we're gonna talk about a handful of games that we really like.
- 50:45SPEAKER_01: We'll kind of give some one take to the other.
- 50:47SPEAKER_01: This is the week of college football where so just if you don't know, Rivalry Week is this is when most traditional teams play their fiercest rivals.
- 50:56SPEAKER_01: So it's a lot of in-state state matchups.
- 50:58SPEAKER_01: Georgia, Georgia Tech, Washington, Washington State, Oregon, Oregon State, Florida, Florida State.
- 51:03SPEAKER_01: I could go on and on and on.
- 51:04SPEAKER_01: The great thing about Rivalry Week is these teams hate each other and they're so passionate that games that probably shouldn't be a game, 10, 20, 30 point spreads, come down to the wire.
- 51:16SPEAKER_01: We see upsets all the time.
- 51:17SPEAKER_01: So Mike and I are gonna profile some games that we think are gonna be sweet, but I'm just telling you, this week, there's gonna be five out there that Mike and I do not see coming that are gonna be amazing.
- 51:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and that's what happens every year, and that's what makes college football great.
- 51:31SPEAKER_02: I mean, you'll get you get these big upsets, you get these rivalry games that are off the radar that you tune in, and it's just craziness.
- 51:40SPEAKER_02: And um, you know, that's why maybe some of that parody that everyone's starving for um is a little bit overrated because you don't get you don't get these 21-point underdogs um storming the fields uh when you've got you know three-point spreads every every week.
- 51:59SPEAKER_01: Totally.
- 51:59SPEAKER_01: Uh very cool.
- 52:00SPEAKER_01: So let's go ahead and jump into um the games that matter.
- 52:03SPEAKER_01: So we're gonna do is we're gonna talk about the five games that we're gonna profile, and then we're gonna get kind of give some some some quick hitters on some of the other games because there's so, so, so many good games this week.
- 52:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah, we gotta go quick.
- 52:12SPEAKER_01: Let's start with the biggest one, Michigan, Ohio State.
- 52:15SPEAKER_01: Um, unbelievable uh matchup coming up.
- 52:17SPEAKER_01: Um uh number three, Michigan, number two, Ohio State.
- 52:21SPEAKER_01: This game is in Ohio Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.
- 52:24SPEAKER_01: Line is seven and a half points.
- 52:26SPEAKER_01: Uh, this is the the de facto battle for the Big Ten, you know, you know, the Big Ten championship does come next.
- 52:32SPEAKER_01: And it's the battle uh for a playoff spot.
- 52:35SPEAKER_01: Um one of the best rivalries in sports.
- 52:39SPEAKER_01: This comes down to, in my opinion, Ohio State's ability to stop the run and Michigan's ability to run the ball.
- 52:46SPEAKER_01: Um Blake Quorum's health.
- 52:49SPEAKER_01: Blake Quorum's health and what Jim Knowles can do on defense.
- 52:52SPEAKER_01: What is you what what are you looking for in this game?
- 52:54SPEAKER_02: Um, this game is has Heisman moments written all over it.
- 53:00SPEAKER_02: This is one of those games where somebody may walk away with a Heisman.
- 53:05SPEAKER_02: Um for me, it's it's it's home field advantage, it's it's offense versus defense, it's run game versus um splash play, you know, passing offense.
- 53:18SPEAKER_02: One of the things that I think though, um I do think that Ohio State found a little something in the run game last week, which will behoove them uh in this game.
- 53:28SPEAKER_02: So it'll be interesting to see uh how they approach it.
- 53:31SPEAKER_02: And I think that uh C CJ Stroud's ability to run the ball uh and uh kind of mix things up, uh confuse that front seven with his legs, will be um big to watch because Michigan does have a pretty stout defense, and I think they're gonna have to loosen them up with the run game a little bit uh before they're able to hit anything over the top.
- 53:53SPEAKER_01: If Michig if Ohio State has to stand, has to cock back and throw the CJ Stroud, as good as he is, and as good as receivers are, if they are forced to be one-dimensional by Michigan's offense, Michigan's defense, they are going to lose this game.
- 54:04SPEAKER_01: They're going to have to, they're going to have to be multiple, have to be to run the ball.
- 54:09SPEAKER_01: And they're super beat up on the not only have they um not been as good as Michigan running the ball, they're also really beat up in the running back rooms.
- 54:17SPEAKER_01: They're gonna be relying on some freshmen as well.
- 54:19SPEAKER_01: Um, I look, I look I look to those guys.
- 54:21SPEAKER_01: I wonder what the first quarter of this game is gonna look like.
- 54:24SPEAKER_01: I you know, like I think that uh, you know, are are they gonna take big shots early?
- 54:29SPEAKER_01: Are they gonna try and like jump out a jump out ahead of them?
- 54:32SPEAKER_02: Um I think I think you see it pretty close to the vest on both sides, to be honest.
- 54:36SPEAKER_02: I think it's one of those games where um you're you're kind of feeling the opponent out a little bit.
- 54:42SPEAKER_02: I'm sure they have some things that they want to attack, but um, you know, it's it's like why why try to attack downfield if if we can loosen them up with some successful early down runs?
- 54:53SPEAKER_02: And same thing for Michigan.
- 54:55SPEAKER_02: Michigan's got to be able to run the ball.
- 54:56SPEAKER_02: That's their MO.
- 54:57SPEAKER_02: They're gonna try to run the ball early.
- 54:59SPEAKER_02: If they do run the ball, I mean it's it's kind of their offense is gonna go the same way.
- 55:03SPEAKER_02: If they're able to run the ball, maybe they can hit some over the top, but they can't, they can't rely on the pass either.
- 55:09SPEAKER_02: I mean, their their run game has been kind of all they've got.
- 55:12SPEAKER_01: No, and it's and and I mean JJ McCarthy is he's he's good and he will be get better, but he is he's young and he's not good enough to carry this team against Ohio State.
- 55:21SPEAKER_01: They're gonna on the road, yeah.
- 55:22SPEAKER_01: No, absolutely.
- 55:23SPEAKER_01: I'm my prediction is I I actually think Michigan is better than Ohio State and is gonna be a real match for them.
- 55:30SPEAKER_01: I think Michigan's gonna win outright.
- 55:31SPEAKER_01: I know the the line is seven and a half points, and I actually I think I think the game is gonna go a lot like it did last year.
- 55:36SPEAKER_01: I've been saying this now for a couple weeks now.
- 55:38SPEAKER_02: So I you've been saying it since yeah, since I can deal with it.
- 55:41SPEAKER_01: Which I will say, my preseason poll, I still I picked Ohio State to win the national championship, so I'm obviously going against that.
- 55:46SPEAKER_01: But just based on what I've seen this whole season, I think Michigan offensive line is tough, and it's gonna be bully ball.
- 55:53SPEAKER_01: And this is what Jim Harbaugh and those 49ers teams, those Stanford teams, want to do.
- 55:57SPEAKER_01: And he's gotten his team to a point where he can do that.
- 56:00SPEAKER_01: And I don't know that Ohio State can counter.
- 56:02SPEAKER_01: Um, so I'm looking for Michigan, I'm looking at Michigan just to sustain some long drives, play tight defense.
- 56:08SPEAKER_01: They're gonna give all they can handle.
- 56:09SPEAKER_01: I think Michigan's gonna win by seven, eight points.
- 56:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I I don't hate your take.
- 56:16SPEAKER_02: I just think that take works so much better at home where Michigan played last year.
- 56:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, at Ohio State with an explosive Ohio State offense.
- 56:30SPEAKER_02: And it's you know, talking about how the the first quarter plays out, how the early game plays out.
- 56:35SPEAKER_02: If Ohio State can hit a couple of those big plays, sure, Michigan goes into panic mode.
- 56:41SPEAKER_02: They are not built to come from behind against uh a team like Ohio State.
- 56:44SPEAKER_02: Like how how quickly do they abandon their game plan?
- 56:48SPEAKER_02: I like Ohio State in this one.
- 56:50SPEAKER_02: I think they're too talented on the outside.
- 56:53SPEAKER_02: I think they I I know it was against Illinois, um, but they did find some explosiveness in the run game.
- 57:00SPEAKER_02: And I know they're beat up.
- 57:02SPEAKER_02: Um against Maryland, I mean.
- 57:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, sorry.
- 57:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 57:06SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 57:06SPEAKER_02: Uh against Maryland last week.
- 57:08SPEAKER_02: Um, and it is Maryland, but I think that was a really nice confidence boost for them.
- 57:12SPEAKER_02: And yeah, I mean, I'm I'm gonna take Ohio State.
- 57:15SPEAKER_02: I don't know if it's if they're gonna cover, I don't know how it's gonna play out.
- 57:18SPEAKER_02: Uh, it's gonna be a good one.
- 57:20SPEAKER_01: I think so, too.
- 57:20SPEAKER_01: And what you're saying is is absolutely right.
- 57:22SPEAKER_01: Michigan, Ohio State, with those receivers, you know, Marvin Harris Jr., Jackson Smith, and Jigma, they are just so, so good.
- 57:28SPEAKER_01: And you're right, if he hits a couple play, if if the if the run game working and he gets a couple play action, if it was a busted coverage, if he goes out wide and he hits Ohio State is capable of putting up a 70-yard touchdown pass at any time because those wide receivers are so so good.
- 57:44SPEAKER_01: So um, you know, Michigan's gonna have to be super smart, super sound, super responsible on defense to um make sure they keep them by bay, especially in Columbus.
- 57:54SPEAKER_02: So plus you've got a potential Heisman trophy winner at the quarterback position.
- 58:00SPEAKER_02: And you give me the better quarterback and the home field advantage.
- 58:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, give me Ohio State.
- 58:06SPEAKER_01: Um I don't hate I don't hate that take either.
- 58:07SPEAKER_01: I really I really don't.
- 58:08SPEAKER_01: I really don't.
- 58:09SPEAKER_01: All right, let's go to the next one that's gonna have kind of uh real national uh implications.
- 58:14SPEAKER_01: Uh and another good game, I think.
- 58:16SPEAKER_01: Number 15, Notre Dame, um at number six USC.
- 58:20SPEAKER_01: Uh USC is a five and a half point favorite.
- 58:22SPEAKER_01: It's actually lower than I thought.
- 58:23SPEAKER_01: Over under 64 and a half.
- 58:25SPEAKER_01: That's a lot of points for Notre Dame.
- 58:26SPEAKER_01: It's games in the Coliseum, 730 ABC.
- 58:29SPEAKER_01: Um, monster monster game.
- 58:31SPEAKER_01: USC obviously is still um on the more or less in control of their own playoff destiny if they win this one and the Pac-12 Championship.
- 58:37SPEAKER_01: I think this game is a monster um bad matchup for uh uh USC, kind of for what we talked about earlier.
- 58:46SPEAKER_01: Um, Notre Dame doesn't turn the ball over that well, and they we're they they like to really run the ball, play super physical.
- 58:54SPEAKER_01: I like this game to go a lot like the Clemson game.
- 58:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we I I think it was um I think you had me convinced before we started the show that Notre Dame was gonna pull the upset here.
- 59:07SPEAKER_02: And I I do love the formula.
- 59:09SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, Notre Dame can run the ball, they've got a really solid run run uh offense and USC, you know, they go as their high-powered offense goes, and they need they've they rely on turnovers.
- 59:22SPEAKER_02: But I think unless Notre Dame is able to shorten this game like significantly, yeah the UFC's offense is still probably too much.
- 59:31SPEAKER_01: It's a lot like the Michigan Ohio State game for that exact reason.
- 59:34SPEAKER_01: And one thing is gonna work and one thing isn't.
- 59:36SPEAKER_01: For Michigan and Notre Dame, it's play really, really physical football, run the ball really well, control the clock, and shorten the game.
- 59:43SPEAKER_01: And if that works, you can win.
- 59:45SPEAKER_01: If they can't, if they get in the shootout mode, and Michigan has offensive uh has offensive troubles, nothing like Notre Dame's nothing.
- 59:52SPEAKER_02: Well, yeah, and and going back to Notre Dame.
- 59:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, go ahead.
- 59:55SPEAKER_02: Going back to Notre Dame beating Clemson.
- 59:57SPEAKER_02: I mean, that was when Clemson was going through their offensive drought, you know.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_02: Correct.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_02: And so Notre Dame was able to do that playing defense, playing the run game, hitting tight ends, you know, dinking and dunking.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_02: Um, they that offense can't keep up with what Southern Cal can do.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_02: And even if they do grind the ball uh and shorten the game a ton, Caleb Williams in this offense can score in like one or two plays.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_02: I mean, they're like tops of the country in in those big splash plays.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, him and Jordan, uh Jordan Addison out there, uh the Blitnikov winner last year, obviously, is out one of the both one of the best wide receivers in college football.
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_01: And Lincoln Riley, knowing that he's going up against this, I'm sure he's gonna have some things, some things the dialed in.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_01: I I'm expecting USC to score.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_01: What I don't know is what I'm gonna see or not is if USC has any answer from Notre Dame's run game and how what they're gonna do on offense.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_01: They know that Drew Pine is limited to quarterback, they know that he only pretty much wants to throw to his one tight end, Michael Mayer, receiving 40% of the receptions for Notre Dame this year.
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_01: They know that.
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_01: The question is, can they do anything about it anyway?
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_01: Clemson could not, and they got 35 points on them.
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_01: Can USC do that given how uh such, I mean, they've been very bendy in the middle of the middle, they've given up a lot of yards.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_02: And how does Notre Dame respond when they stack the box and bring a lot of pressure?
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_02: Uh because that's gonna you're gonna have to win some one-on-one matchups on the outside, and they haven't shown that they can do that.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_01: No, particularly not, unless unless it's Michael Mayer being a linebacker, but they're gonna double that guy.
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_01: Everybody in America knows they're gonna double that guy, so you're gonna have to find somebody else outside of that.
- 1:01:31SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 1:01:31SPEAKER_02: And so that's where, you know, if if you it it takes one or two times to get beat, you know, one guy blows an assignment or something, and all of a sudden USC's defense, you know, maybe they're switching up their game plan a little bit.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_02: I don't think it's gonna happen.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_02: I like I like USC.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_02: I like them to, you know, it's probably gonna be tight um halfway through, but they're they're just too explosive.
- 1:01:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, I like USC cover as well.
- 1:01:56SPEAKER_01: And this game is also in the Coliseum.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_01: So they're playing under the California sun, which is only gonna help USC.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_01: If they were playing, if this USC high-powered offense had to go to cold South Bend, Indiana, there'd be a whole different especially especially if it was nighttime and it was 25 degrees, that would majorly play Notre Dame's finish, but they're not gonna get that.
- 1:02:15SPEAKER_01: It's the they're calling for 64 degrees and sunshine.
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_01: Um, they're gonna have uh a lot of time to open the field and do what they gotta do.
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_01: So I also I I think I know how Notre Dame can win.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_01: I don't think they will.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_01: I like yeah, yeah.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_04: I agree with you.
- 1:02:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_01: Uh super quick, uh TCU, Iowa State.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_01: Uh, this is just the other game that's relevant because TCU is undefeated, they're in the playoff four.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_01: Um they are playing um at the Iowa Cyclones.
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_01: What's this?
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_01: It's only a 10-point spread.
- 1:02:41SPEAKER_01: Iowa State is coached by Matt Campbell, they're a plucky team.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_01: Um, I've I've been doubting with TCU all season.
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna be really quick with this one.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_01: They're the battle team.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_01: Max Down's a good quarterback.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_01: Sonny Duck's a good coach, Quentin Johnson is one of the best receivers in the country.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_01: TCU gets it done.
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_01: They're gonna cover.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you can't pick against him at this point.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_02: Um, Iowa State.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_02: We have been and wrong, but you cannot.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_02: No, I mean, Iowa State is fully capable of winning this game.
- 1:03:06SPEAKER_02: It's not going to shock me if Ohio State wins this game.
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_02: But how could I pick against TCU at this point?
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_02: So, yeah.
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_01: I'm I'm that's where I am as well.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_01: Very cool.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_01: Uh, let's talk about your game next.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_01: Uh Tennessee Vander, number 10 uh Tennessee uh playing at Vanderbilt in First Bank Stadium, Nashville 730 SEC network.
- 1:03:24SPEAKER_01: Tennessee is a 14-point favorite.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_01: Probably looks a little different with Joe Milton uh running the show.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_01: Uh go ahead.
- 1:03:30SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's it's really interesting.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_02: We don't know what to expect.
- 1:03:32SPEAKER_02: Vanderbilt strung together uh a couple big wins.
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_02: They they've looked actually pretty darn good.
- 1:03:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but uh they still have a yeah, they've still they beat Florida.
- 1:03:43SPEAKER_02: They um they still have a pretty porous defense, um, but losing your starting quarterback um who's been just your everything, uh, and plugging in a guy that you haven't seen compete in any meaningful time in two years, it it gives you a lot of worry.
- 1:04:01SPEAKER_02: I mean, this is definitely a game where it's senior night for Vandy, they're competing for bowl eligibility.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_02: Tennessee is coming off of a playoff collapse in embarrassing fashion.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_02: Your your Heisman hopeful goes down with an ACL.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_02: This is just such a scary game as a Tennessee fan.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_02: Um all that being said, you know, I I could see this being another head scratching loss, but I really don't think it will be.
- 1:04:33SPEAKER_02: I think Joe Milton can do enough.
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_02: The offense isn't gonna click like we've seen it click.
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_02: Um, the defense is still gonna give up points, but I just have a really hard time thinking that that that Tennessee loses this game.
- 1:04:45SPEAKER_01: No, Tennessee's gonna win Tennessee's gonna win this game in cover.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_01: I understand that Vanderbilt is five and six, they're playing for the bowl game.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_01: Obviously, there's no love loss between these two teams, being obviously in-state rivals, all this thing's going on.
- 1:04:55SPEAKER_01: And the fact they just beat Kentucky and Florida, which are as the season has dragged on, we are now realizing they are deeply flawed teams.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_01: Tennessee is not that team.
- 1:05:03SPEAKER_01: Tennessee is heads and shoulders better than Kentucky and Florida, even with Joe Milton.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_01: I I'm I am interested to see.
- 1:05:11SPEAKER_01: I don't know, I'm interested to see what the dynamic looks like.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_01: They're probably not going to look as fast or as crisp with as Hendon, but how could how could they?
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_01: Um, right out of the gate.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_01: Um, but Vanderbilt does not have the kind of talent that you need to slow down this team.
- 1:05:25SPEAKER_01: Joe Milton has done it in spot work.
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_01: Obviously, the game was usually over.
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he's got a huge arm.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_02: You know, is he can he make decisions when the bullets are flying?
- 1:05:34SPEAKER_02: Can he run the offense effectively?
- 1:05:36SPEAKER_02: Can he hit those open throws?
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_02: I think we see Tennessee lean heavily on the run game early.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and I think that'll be enough.
- 1:05:42SPEAKER_02: That'll be effective enough to open things up.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 1:05:44SPEAKER_01: I think what key for Joe Milton is gonna be is settling down.
- 1:05:47SPEAKER_01: There's a there was a little there was a while during the South Carolina game, and I know the game was over at that point, but he was still putting putting absolute steam on some of those fastballs.
- 1:05:57SPEAKER_01: You could tell that he was hyped up and excited.
- 1:05:59SPEAKER_01: I think what's gonna happen is once he gets the the game going, uh Heipel's gonna call a couple quarterback keepers.
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_01: He's gonna take a couple shots, he's gonna take a couple shots, he's gonna get hit a couple times, he's gonna hit a couple guys, he's gonna settle in.
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_01: And once he settles in and calms down, I think Joe Milton's gonna realize he could a lot what he can do and what Vanderbilt can't do.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_01: And I think that's when you're gonna see.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_01: I like to maybe it's close for a half, but I like Tennessee to pull away um once Milton settles in and he's gonna find Jalen Hyatt, those guys out there, and they're gonna do what they always do.
- 1:06:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean, that's what you hope for.
- 1:06:33SPEAKER_02: Um I that it is gonna be interesting to see how he how he runs.
- 1:06:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 1:06:40SPEAKER_02: So I'm excited to see that at least.
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_01: Very, very much.
- 1:06:43SPEAKER_01: Very cool.
- 1:06:44SPEAKER_01: Number five, LSU playing at Texan M Kyle Field College Station, four and seven.
- 1:06:49SPEAKER_01: This is a game LSU had circled on this calendar uh a year ago, but for obviously very different reasons.
- 1:06:55SPEAKER_01: Uh, LSU is a 10-point favorite.
- 1:06:57SPEAKER_01: Texan is not going to a bowl.
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_01: They're about to lose half their team to transfers.
- 1:07:02SPEAKER_01: LSU has the whole world in front of them at least for another week.
- 1:07:05SPEAKER_01: Um, I think LSU is going to take care of business because I think uh the offense knows who they are, the defense knows who they are.
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_01: Um, and I'll be honest with you, I'm expecting AM not to show up for this game, frankly.
- 1:07:21SPEAKER_02: Well, this game could not come at a worse time for Texas AM.
- 1:07:25SPEAKER_02: No.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_02: They've they've tried to show some life um amidst all these struggles.
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_02: Um, I know it was UMass last week, um, but they looked dreadful against UMass.
- 1:07:36SPEAKER_02: The stands were completely empty.
- 1:07:37SPEAKER_02: I don't expect that to be the case just because it is an SEC West rivalry game.
- 1:07:42SPEAKER_02: I expect people to show up.
- 1:07:43SPEAKER_02: They're they're gonna be hype early, but as soon as anything goes wrong, it's boo birds and see you later.
- 1:07:50SPEAKER_02: And so I don't expect this AM team or fan base to handle any adversity whatsoever.
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_01: No, I and Frank, in fact, in fact, I think this is the this is the game where which LSU has struggled to do all year is they've they've started slow in every single game.
- 1:08:04SPEAKER_01: And it's cost them game, like the floor state game, it actually cost them the whole game.
- 1:08:07SPEAKER_01: Didn't matter Tennessee game if we started fast.
- 1:08:09SPEAKER_01: But this LSU has started slow in every game.
- 1:08:13SPEAKER_01: If they can start fast, if they can get out to a 10-nothing, 13-0 lead first, you know, halfway through the second, this game is over.
- 1:08:21SPEAKER_01: I don't think this, but if LSU gives this team, which is a it's which is like a it's this this game is like Texan now is like a dying wolf.
- 1:08:30SPEAKER_01: You know, they are dangerous because they have talent and they're there, but you just don't give them a chance.
- 1:08:35SPEAKER_02: Don't give them a chance to play out of their mind football, and they don't need you know yeah, the only flip side of that is exactly what you're saying, is if LSU uh you know lets them hang around and it's the third quarter, and because what you're gonna see from AM, you know, you're gonna see some guys cycling in that really do want to play and really do want to be there.
- 1:08:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and they hate yeah, and when you start giving those guys some life and some reason to believe, all of a sudden you're dealing with a different animal.
- 1:09:06SPEAKER_02: So I don't expect that to be the case, but I do agree that any early blow could be a knockout blow.
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_01: I'm really excited to see Harold Perkins against because this is the first time he's since Harold Perkins has really been fully dispatched onto this team, this is the first time he's playing a quarterback who's really not that mobile.
- 1:09:23SPEAKER_01: Um, and the UAB kid had had good legs, Arkansas guys had wheels.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_01: Uh Kyor Wideman, I know he's a five-star freshman.
- 1:09:30SPEAKER_01: He's gonna do some things well eventually, but he is gonna be hating life uh come this Saturday um when uh he sees Harold Perkins breathing down his neck, who was a last-minute AM LSU flip.
- 1:09:41SPEAKER_01: Who's AM commit for over a year and a half?
- 1:09:43SPEAKER_01: So there's that sub-story line to pay attention to as well.
- 1:09:46SPEAKER_01: Um, so I'm very I'm very excited about this game.
- 1:09:50SPEAKER_01: So I think it's gonna go the way I want to go.
- 1:09:52SPEAKER_01: But if it doesn't, holy smokes, it's gonna be a disaster.
- 1:09:56SPEAKER_01: Uh LSU covers.
- 1:09:57SPEAKER_01: Um, covers minus 10.
- 1:09:58SPEAKER_01: All right, uh, so we have a bunch of games.
- 1:10:00SPEAKER_01: We don't know which one.
- 1:10:01SPEAKER_01: We gotta work through them real fast.
- 1:10:02SPEAKER_01: We're gonna do them.
- 1:10:04SPEAKER_02: We gotta nix the college football playoff talk.
- 1:10:05SPEAKER_02: We'll save that for next week.
- 1:10:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think it's a good call.
- 1:10:07SPEAKER_01: All right, let's just do let's let's do one take and we'll kind of go in order.
- 1:10:10SPEAKER_01: Uh we'll start with the egg bowl.
- 1:10:11SPEAKER_01: Mississippi State, uh, Ole Miss.
- 1:10:13SPEAKER_01: Mississippi State uh is playing at Ole Miss in Oxford.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_01: Umle Miss is a two-point favorite.
- 1:10:19SPEAKER_01: I think Ole Miss this season's about they they've now lost two straight.
- 1:10:22SPEAKER_01: They're about to lose their coach.
- 1:10:23SPEAKER_01: Mississippi State hates them with a passion.
- 1:10:27SPEAKER_01: Um, I think Will Rogers is gonna is gonna do it.
- 1:10:29SPEAKER_01: I got I got Mississippi State here.
- 1:10:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I really like this spot for Mississippi State.
- 1:10:34SPEAKER_02: Um I think Ole Miss is kind of I mean, this is kind of gut check time for them.
- 1:10:39SPEAKER_02: And we don't even know if their coach is is still dialed in.
- 1:10:42SPEAKER_02: Uh so I like I like Mississippi State.
- 1:10:45SPEAKER_02: Um and uh yeah, I think I think Ole Miss phones it in.
- 1:10:52SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 1:10:52SPEAKER_01: Uh South Carolina Clemson, uh this is a big and then it's at rivals 12 o'clock ABC on noon.
- 1:10:57SPEAKER_01: Clemson's a 14.5 point favorite.
- 1:11:00SPEAKER_01: Um, can Spencer Rattler do it again?
- 1:11:02SPEAKER_01: That's what it's gonna take.
- 1:11:03SPEAKER_01: I say no, but it's a rivalry game, so he could.
- 1:11:06SPEAKER_01: That's the matchup to watch for me is Spencer Rattler.
- 1:11:08SPEAKER_01: Does he come to life again?
- 1:11:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I think this is a very much a trap game, not for Clemson, um, but for college football betters.
- 1:11:16SPEAKER_02: I think um losing um Tennessee getting blown out by South Carolina in head scratching, just mind-numbing fashion, um, was a big wake-up call for any sort of possibility that this would be a trap game for Clemson.
- 1:11:30SPEAKER_02: So they've got their full attention.
- 1:11:32SPEAKER_02: Uh, there's no way they drop this game.
- 1:11:34SPEAKER_02: Uh, South Carolina goes back to being South Carolina.
- 1:11:37SPEAKER_02: Uh Clemson's defensive front looks as good as they usually do.
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_02: South Carolina regresses to their abysmal defense uh offensive front.
- 1:11:45SPEAKER_02: Spencer Rattler gets hit a lot and just doesn't play well.
- 1:11:50SPEAKER_01: That's what it's gonna take.
- 1:11:51SPEAKER_01: It's gonna take a lot.
- 1:11:51SPEAKER_01: It's gonna Spencer Rattler is gonna get a lot of pressure on him, and he's just I think they're I think they're I think they're going to get to him.
- 1:11:57SPEAKER_01: Uh Michigan State, number 11, uh Penn State.
- 1:12:00SPEAKER_01: Penn State's 18 half is 18-point favorite.
- 1:12:02SPEAKER_01: Penn State is 9-2, solidifying themselves as the third best team in the Big Ten, with space they're pretty familiar with.
- 1:12:08SPEAKER_01: Um, I know Mel Tucker's a good coach, but uh Penn State is much, much better than Michigan State.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_01: This will be no different.
- 1:12:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Penn State is really good.
- 1:12:17SPEAKER_02: They are really good.
- 1:12:18SPEAKER_02: They are really good.
- 1:12:19SPEAKER_02: They're the third best team in the Big Ten, probably, and the Big Ten is pretty bad, other than that.
- 1:12:25SPEAKER_02: Yep, I agree.
- 1:12:26SPEAKER_02: Punch State wins.
- 1:12:27SPEAKER_01: Punch eight wins.
- 1:12:28SPEAKER_01: Uh Florida State, Florida.
- 1:12:29SPEAKER_01: Florida State has absolutely gotten off the mat in a big way.
- 1:12:32SPEAKER_01: And they've they've they've turned out to pretty impressive, pretty impressive win.
- 1:12:36SPEAKER_01: Uh Florida State is a nine and a half point favorite.
- 1:12:38SPEAKER_01: They're eight and three.
- 1:12:39SPEAKER_01: Mike Norvell has done a really good job.
- 1:12:41SPEAKER_01: Jordan Travis is an awesome quarterback.
- 1:12:43SPEAKER_01: And I think uh I think um Oh god, the the Florida, the Florida coach, the name is blanking on me all of a sudden.
- 1:12:50SPEAKER_01: What's Florida's coach's name?
- 1:12:51SPEAKER_01: I can't remember his name.
- 1:12:51SPEAKER_01: The guy from Louis from Louisiana Lafayette.
- 1:12:53SPEAKER_01: Anyway, um Napier.
- 1:12:55SPEAKER_01: Napier, Billy Napier, thank you.
- 1:12:57SPEAKER_01: Um, this Florida team is gonna continue to show the the lumps and the bumps that it has all season.
- 1:13:03SPEAKER_01: Uh, I like Florida State to roll.
- 1:13:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm not picking any team after they lose to Vandy.
- 1:13:10SPEAKER_01: Fair enough, fair enough.
- 1:13:12SPEAKER_02: Uh Georgia Florida State for those of you for those of you keeping track at home.
- 1:13:17SPEAKER_01: Uh we got Georgia.
- 1:13:19SPEAKER_01: Georgia against Georgia Tech.
- 1:13:21SPEAKER_04: Georgia, Georgia.
- 1:13:23SPEAKER_01: Georgia is a 35 and a half point favorite.
- 1:13:25SPEAKER_01: Georgia.
- 1:13:26SPEAKER_01: Georgia Tech is playing for a bowl.
- 1:13:28SPEAKER_01: That's so exciting.
- 1:13:28SPEAKER_01: It's too bad they're not gonna get one this year.
- 1:13:30SPEAKER_01: Uh Georgia is gonna win by a lot of points.
- 1:13:33SPEAKER_01: Uh, let's keep it rolling.
- 1:13:34SPEAKER_01: Uh, Baylor, Texas.
- 1:13:36SPEAKER_01: This game is Jekyll and Hyde versus Jekyll and Hyde.
- 1:13:39SPEAKER_01: In my mind, it's the only way I can really describe it at this point.
- 1:13:42SPEAKER_01: I just I think Baylor, I still think Baylor's a good team, six and five.
- 1:13:46SPEAKER_01: Um, Texas is either a great team at seven and four or they're a terrible team at seven and four.
- 1:13:51SPEAKER_01: Which Texas is gonna show up?
- 1:13:52SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 1:13:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, this one is really interesting.
- 1:13:56SPEAKER_02: Uh like like you said, I mean, both of these teams have been so up and down.
- 1:13:58SPEAKER_02: They've both looked so good at times, and they both looked bad at times, and they've both been able to really run the ball.
- 1:14:04SPEAKER_02: It should be a really good uh ground attack that we see.
- 1:14:07SPEAKER_02: Um, I like yours uh at quarterback better than I like uh what Baylor has at quarterback, and uh I like the Longhorns at home.
- 1:14:14SPEAKER_01: Yep, Bij Robinson's.
- 1:14:16SPEAKER_01: I think Bij Robinson's probably gonna be the difference in that one.
- 1:14:19SPEAKER_01: Auburn uh against number seven Alabama, Iron Bowl uh 330 CBS.
- 1:14:24SPEAKER_01: Alabama's a 22-point favorite.
- 1:14:26SPEAKER_01: This game is just weird because it's weird.
- 1:14:28SPEAKER_01: I like Auburn to cover somehow, some way.
- 1:14:31SPEAKER_01: Um, especially if if we especially if we're the time recording it is 11:30 on Tuesday.
- 1:14:36SPEAKER_01: If they announce Lane Kiffin is the coach next day or so, I could see a real spark in that game.
- 1:14:40SPEAKER_01: At the other side, Alabama's got nothing to play for.
- 1:14:43SPEAKER_01: Those guys are all going to the NFL and mailing it in.
- 1:14:45SPEAKER_01: I like Auburn to cover.
- 1:14:48SPEAKER_02: Um, I I do like that take um because we've heard some of this is just speculation.
- 1:14:55SPEAKER_02: It's talk, it's drama for drama's sake, the culture at Bama, you know, where's the culture gone?
- 1:15:01SPEAKER_02: They're not the usual Bama.
- 1:15:03SPEAKER_02: Um and so this is the type of game that you see that show up.
- 1:15:06SPEAKER_02: Because, like you said, I mean, what are they playing for?
- 1:15:09SPEAKER_02: A potentially meaningless, everyone likes to say meaningless bowl game.
- 1:15:14SPEAKER_02: Um, it's not, it's not meaningless, it's not meaningless to Bama, it's not meaningless to Saban.
- 1:15:19SPEAKER_02: Bama shows up and plays like Bama.
- 1:15:22SPEAKER_02: Bama looks good, Bama wins, Bama rolls.
- 1:15:25SPEAKER_02: Uh the Iron Bowl is a weird game, it always is.
- 1:15:27SPEAKER_02: And Auburn's talented, and Cadillac Williams has those guys believing in playing well.
- 1:15:31SPEAKER_02: He's got them fired up, but um, they're just not that talented.
- 1:15:36SPEAKER_02: And Bama's gonna roll.
- 1:15:37SPEAKER_01: Are they gonna cover 22?
- 1:15:40SPEAKER_02: Oh, no.
- 1:15:40SPEAKER_01: Not gonna be okay.
- 1:15:42SPEAKER_01: We're both we're both on Auburn.
- 1:15:43SPEAKER_02: I mean, they're gonna roll.
- 1:15:44SPEAKER_02: 22 is a lot.
- 1:15:45SPEAKER_02: They're gonna I mean, I don't know if they're gonna roll like 22.
- 1:15:48SPEAKER_02: Um, but yeah, they they dominate the game.
- 1:15:51SPEAKER_01: Uh, Oregon, Oregon State, the Civil War.
- 1:15:54SPEAKER_01: Um, number nine, Oregon, number 21, Oregon State.
- 1:15:56SPEAKER_01: This game's line's only three points.
- 1:15:58SPEAKER_01: This game is in Corvallis.
- 1:15:59SPEAKER_01: Um, these this this game has a speaking of just rivalry games, this game has a history of being really physical, crazy games.
- 1:16:07SPEAKER_01: We don't know what's gonna happen.
- 1:16:08SPEAKER_01: Uh for me, it's all eyes on Bo Nicks and what his health.
- 1:16:11SPEAKER_01: He was only on one leg against Utah last week, got the win.
- 1:16:15SPEAKER_01: This Oregon State game is tough.
- 1:16:16SPEAKER_01: And if Utah, if Oregon is gonna win this game and challenge USC next week, it's gonna come down to Bo Nick's health.
- 1:16:23SPEAKER_01: So this game and Oregon are gonna go the way of Bo Nick's health.
- 1:16:26SPEAKER_01: So I don't know what that's gonna look like.
- 1:16:28SPEAKER_02: I don't know either.
- 1:16:29SPEAKER_02: I like I like Oregon State.
- 1:16:30SPEAKER_02: Give me the beeves.
- 1:16:31SPEAKER_01: Give me the beeves.
- 1:16:32SPEAKER_01: Good stuff.
- 1:16:33SPEAKER_01: All right, cool.
- 1:16:33SPEAKER_01: Let's go to uh the outside.
- 1:16:35SPEAKER_02: Did you pick that game or did you say it was gonna go as Bo Nick goes?
- 1:16:38SPEAKER_01: Uh no, I'm I'm I I didn't I did not pick that game.
- 1:16:41SPEAKER_01: If Bo Nick's is a full healthy, I'll take Oregon.
- 1:16:43SPEAKER_01: If he is at a weird ankle situation, he's not he's he still can't move, then I'll take Oregon State as well.
- 1:16:49SPEAKER_01: I really think that's that's what it's gonna come down to.
- 1:16:51SPEAKER_02: Oh, okay.
- 1:16:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:16:52SPEAKER_01: So I'm punching on that one.
- 1:16:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:16:54SPEAKER_01: I'm punching on that one until I hear I want to hear, I want to hear Bo Nick's health report on Friday night.
- 1:16:59SPEAKER_01: Whatever it is.
- 1:17:00SPEAKER_02: If Mercury's in retrograde, give me Oregon.
- 1:17:03SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 1:17:03SPEAKER_01: Uh uh the Apple Cup.
- 1:17:05SPEAKER_01: Don't you love all these Gov Cups have all these games have names?
- 1:17:08SPEAKER_01: I love all the cavalry games.
- 1:17:09SPEAKER_01: I love it so much.
- 1:17:10SPEAKER_01: So cool.
- 1:17:10SPEAKER_01: Number 13, uh Washington at Washington State, Martin Stadium in Pullman, Washington.
- 1:17:15SPEAKER_01: Um, I don't have much to say about this other than uh Michael Penix Jr.
- 1:17:19SPEAKER_01: is a beast, and they are still playing for a chance at the Pac-12 Championship.
- 1:17:24SPEAKER_01: If, like I said, Mike just took the Beavers, if he's right and UW wins this game, UW is gonna get in the Pac-12 championship and they're gonna have another shot at USC, which would be such great television.
- 1:17:35SPEAKER_01: Michael Penix against Caleb Williams, but we'll get we'll cross the bench when we get to it.
- 1:17:38SPEAKER_01: Um, so for that reason, for all the things I'm talking about, UW still has a lot to play for, and they are going to let it show.
- 1:17:45SPEAKER_01: Um, so I've I got UW uh rolling, even though it's only even though UW's only a two-point favorite, I think they're winning by seven.
- 1:17:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's hard to go against Penix Jr.
- 1:17:54SPEAKER_02: at this point.
- 1:17:54SPEAKER_02: Washington has looked really good.
- 1:17:56SPEAKER_02: Um, I don't know what the weather's gonna be like.
- 1:17:58SPEAKER_02: If it's like snowy, it could be a weird game.
- 1:18:01SPEAKER_02: I like Washington State's defense in a snowy kind of marked up.
- 1:18:07SPEAKER_01: Acuweather is calling for 32 degrees, but no precipitation.
- 1:18:10SPEAKER_01: But it is at home, so you know and it's uh it's also a night game, so you know it's gonna be wild in there.
- 1:18:13SPEAKER_01: You know the folks pulling out the water.
- 1:18:14SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, it's gonna be frigid.
- 1:18:16SPEAKER_02: Um, I still like Washington, um, unless it snows.
- 1:18:20SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna go with I'm gonna go and I'm gonna follow your your lead there.
- 1:18:23SPEAKER_01: And punt until you get a weather, until you get a weather forecast.
- 1:18:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:18:26SPEAKER_02: I hear that.
- 1:18:28SPEAKER_01: That's fair.
- 1:18:28SPEAKER_01: I've made it.
- 1:18:29SPEAKER_02: If Washington State's volleyball team wins on Thursday night before the game, give me the tubes.
- 1:18:35SPEAKER_01: All right, all right.
- 1:18:36SPEAKER_01: And last one, uh uh Kansas against Kansas State.
- 1:18:40SPEAKER_01: Um Bill Slider State in Manhattan, Kansas.
- 1:18:42SPEAKER_01: K-State's gonna be hosting them.
- 1:18:43SPEAKER_01: K-State's a 12-point favorite.
- 1:18:45SPEAKER_01: Um, Kansas has been a hell of it, it's been a has been a hell of a story this year.
- 1:18:49SPEAKER_01: They're six and five.
- 1:18:50SPEAKER_01: I actually think I just heard Lance Leopold got a contract extension, which means he might stick around.
- 1:18:54SPEAKER_01: Lawrence for a while.
- 1:18:55SPEAKER_01: Congratulations to Kansas Jayhawks, Rock Chalk.
- 1:18:57SPEAKER_01: Um, Kansas State, just this is this is an old take.
