- 0:00Speaker 1: Even I have caught flack for some stuff that my
- 0:04Speaker 1: mom or dad have said in the past or something.
- 0:08Speaker 1: You are in the light, you're just never in the
- 0:11Speaker 1: light when you wanna be.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Welcome to Born to the Game, produced by ARCA Media
- 0:48Speaker 2: Group in collaboration with Inflection Network and distributed through iHeartMedia.
- 0:52Speaker 2: This is the space where the children and families of
- 0:55Speaker 2: iconic athletes, entertainers, and cultural figures share the truth behind legacy,
- 1:00Speaker 2: not just what their families did, but who they were
- 1:02Speaker 2: and how that legacy continues.
- 1:04Speaker 3: Her father, Terry Crews, has built a career that spans
- 1:07Speaker 3: both professional sports and entertainment, from playing in the NFL
- 1:11Speaker 3: to becoming one of Hollywood's most recognizable personalities. His career
- 1:15Speaker 3: includes iconic projects like White Chicks, Everybody Hates Chris, Brooklyn Nine-Nine,
- 1:21Speaker 3: and The Expendables franchise, along with his role as host
- 1:24Speaker 3: of America's Got Talent.
- 1:25Speaker 2: But today, we're getting to know Tara Cruz. Tara has
- 1:29Speaker 2: taken a path that's entirely her own. From studying music
- 1:33Speaker 2: to building a career in Los Angeles nightlife and entertainment,
- 1:36Speaker 2: she's spent years behind the scenes creating experiences, building relationships,
- 1:40Speaker 2: and navigating some of L.A. 's most exclusive rooms. And
- 1:44Speaker 2: now she's stepping from behind the scenes to build something
- 1:47Speaker 2: of her own with What's the Tea?
- 1:49Speaker 1: Period.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Today, we're talking about growing up cruise pressure, finding your
- 1:54Speaker 2: identity outside of a recognizable last name, taking an unconventional
- 1:58Speaker 2: career path, building something that's yours and what it means
- 2:01Speaker 2: to honor the legacy we're born into while defining your own.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Tara Cruz? Welcome, welcome! What is the tea, baby?
- 2:12Speaker 1: What is the tea, girl?
- 2:14Speaker 2: What isn't the tea? That's really the question. Hey, sis.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Hello.
- 2:18Speaker 2: You look stunning.
- 2:19Speaker 1: I'm just so happy to be here. We're all wearing
- 2:22Speaker 1: our red and black.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Totally unplanned, by the way.
- 2:25Speaker 1: We ate that. I don't even understand how y'all even
- 2:27Speaker 1: had these options ready.
- 2:28Speaker 2: I don't get it.
- 2:29Speaker 1: I didn't even tell you what I was going to wear.
- 2:31Speaker 2: In tune, in sync. That's when you know it's meant
- 2:33Speaker 2: to be. You were meant to be here.
- 2:35Speaker 1: But I'm so proud. I brought you these Dina flowers.
- 2:38Speaker 1: They're beautiful. Pasadena rose. If you're from Dina, you know
- 2:41Speaker 1: the rose. We are the city of the rose. So
- 2:44Speaker 1: we had to show my love to the girls. You know,
- 2:48Speaker 1: what is the tea? It's been raining. I don't understand that.
- 2:50Speaker 1: What is that about? It was also 100 degrees not
- 2:53Speaker 1: even two days ago.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Two days ago?
- 2:54Speaker 1: Somebody help. Like, what's happening? The data centers are going
- 2:58Speaker 1: to blow up in a second.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Not the data centers! The people are burning. I know.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Like, it's actually really hot.
- 3:04Speaker 2: I know.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Other than that, I've been really happy. I've been outside,
- 3:08Speaker 1: per usual. I've kind of just been in my own
- 3:10Speaker 1: development process of my business and just, like, spending more
- 3:14Speaker 1: time with family.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Already spending enough. Very good. We love it. Like, my
- 3:18Speaker 1: mom just called me the other day. She said, when
- 3:19Speaker 1: are you coming over? I said, I was over yesterday. Like,
- 3:23Speaker 1: can we, like, can we take a, like, we need
- 3:24Speaker 1: separation sometimes.
- 3:26Speaker 2: But please tell mom we said hello.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Oh, absolutely.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Like, you are your mother's twin. I love her.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Stunning.
- 3:32Speaker 2: We love her. Please send her our love.
- 3:34Speaker 1: I get my fashion sense from her.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Oh, period. She's an icon. So, we are here to
- 3:39Speaker 2: get to know you. Yes. All thanks, Tara, and what
- 3:42Speaker 2: Tara's doing. Because, again, you come from a family that, again,
- 3:44Speaker 2: we're fans. Scary cruise. We were just saying off camera, blended.
- 3:49Speaker 1: This is ridiculous. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Blended is my jam. I'm sorry.
- 3:54Speaker 1: No, no, no.
- 3:55Speaker 2: I appreciate it. I love it.
- 3:57Speaker 1: You are probably the first people to ever say this
- 3:59Speaker 1: to me.
- 4:00Speaker 2: I know.
- 4:00Speaker 1: In the sense of, I feel like most people kind
- 4:03Speaker 1: of miss that era. I love that. No, I'm actually
- 4:07Speaker 1: pretty proud.
- 4:08Speaker 2: You're not a real fan until you, like, the movies
- 4:10Speaker 2: that are not, you know.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 4:11Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying?
- 4:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Yeah. We got you.
- 4:14Speaker 1: We love it.
- 4:14Speaker 2: So take us back to the Terry Crews household. What
- 4:20Speaker 2: was it like growing up? When was that first moment
- 4:24Speaker 2: you realized dad, his career and who he is, is
- 4:28Speaker 2: bigger than life?
- 4:30Speaker 1: Okay. So I grew up in a very like musical
- 4:35Speaker 1: oriented family. So we'd go to plays and all this stuff,
- 4:37Speaker 1: but It's so different watching a movie be made behind
- 4:40Speaker 1: the scenes. So I was there for White Chicks. I
- 4:43Speaker 1: was there for Everybody Hates Chris. And you just find
- 4:48Speaker 1: out how normal everything is until you see it on
- 4:50Speaker 1: the big screen and people are cracking up, laughing, dying.
- 4:52Speaker 1: And I'm like, well, it's not funny when I watched it.
- 4:56Speaker 1: I'm a child. I'm in an adult setting with children.
- 4:59Speaker 1: I had to be White Chicks. I was, I I
- 5:02Speaker 1: think I was either five or six. And I was
- 5:04Speaker 1: there for the dinner scene. So when all that was
- 5:07Speaker 1: going down, I was there and I was like, what
- 5:10Speaker 1: is this mess? Mind you, Marlon looks so scary in
- 5:13Speaker 1: white face. It's actually terrifying. He came up to meet
- 5:16Speaker 1: me and he was like, how you doing, little lady?
- 5:18Speaker 1: I said, I'm about to pass out. This is so terrifying.
- 5:23Speaker 1: It's just so daunting. And he had the blue contacts.
- 5:25Speaker 1: I said, yo. But watching it back now, watching it
- 5:30Speaker 1: back now, it's so insane. My dad plays make-believe for fun.
- 5:35Speaker 1: And he would do that with us when we were kids.
- 5:37Speaker 1: He would be the shark in the water trying to get,
- 5:40Speaker 1: it was so fun with him. And because he would
- 5:44Speaker 1: be away for certain films and stuff, we'd be with
- 5:47Speaker 1: our mom and we'd be like, when is he gonna
- 5:49Speaker 1: come back? It was almost like he was a military dad.
- 5:52Speaker 1: He would be stationed away for so long that we'd
- 5:54Speaker 1: be like, man, I almost didn't take his authority seriously.
- 5:58Speaker 2: For a long time. Wow. That's interesting.
- 6:01Speaker 1: I respected him so much, but then after a while,
- 6:03Speaker 1: I was like, this dude not even here.
- 6:04Speaker 2: You're not even here.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Yeah. I'm supposed to listen to you when you get
- 6:07Speaker 1: home and mom runs this house? Interesting. There was a
- 6:12Speaker 1: point in my teenage years where I really rebelled. Oh, okay.
- 6:14Speaker 1: We'll get into that.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Interesting. So were you alive when he was playing? No.
- 6:20Speaker 2: So he retired and then he transitioned into acting. How
- 6:23Speaker 2: many years after he retired? Or was it like a.
- 6:26Speaker 1: I was born the year later, he got the show
- 6:29Speaker 1: called Battle Dome, which is basically WWE. Like it was
- 6:32Speaker 1: a WWE type show that cast him. He was like,
- 6:36Speaker 1: people were getting seriously hurt. And so he kind of
- 6:38Speaker 1: exited out of that thinking like, I don't want to
- 6:40Speaker 1: hurt my body too much. And, you know, he was
- 6:42Speaker 1: tired of the NFL playing in his face. You know,
- 6:45Speaker 1: he was constantly getting hurt then, too. And he was like,
- 6:47Speaker 1: this isn't sustainable for me. So I believe the year
- 6:51Speaker 1: after I was born, he started he got a role
- 6:53Speaker 1: in Training Day as one of the background actors. You
- 6:57Speaker 1: can see him when Denzel's telling off everybody in that
- 6:59Speaker 1: one scene. And that was a shock to me because
- 7:03Speaker 1: I was watching Training Day randomly and I was like,
- 7:05Speaker 1: that is not my dad. Are you actually out of
- 7:07Speaker 1: your mind? And people started pointing it out later on
- 7:10Speaker 1: Twitter and stuff. And I was like, this is genuinely insane.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Like he's kind of just like the monolith that like
- 7:15Speaker 1: appears in random stuff. Like he was in a David
- 7:17Speaker 1: Lynch movie like some time ago. I'm honestly surprised a
- 7:21Speaker 1: lot of times when I hear how My life, like
- 7:25Speaker 1: us moving to Los Angeles, I was born here. My
- 7:28Speaker 1: life would be so different if I was born in
- 7:31Speaker 1: Flint like everyone else was. Like I don't think I
- 7:33Speaker 1: would be the same person.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Got you. So dad is from Flint, Michigan.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Yes, my dad is from Flint. Mom is from Gary, Indiana.
- 7:39Speaker 1: And they met in Kalamazoo. Very Midwest type of.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Very Midwest. Shout out to the Midwest. Shout out to Indiana.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Shout out to the Midwest, honestly. If I grew up there,
- 7:46Speaker 1: I probably wouldn't be like the way I am now.
- 7:49Speaker 1: I'm so like.
- 7:50Speaker 2: I'm like, it's my home, my life. It's a different culture.
- 7:52Speaker 2: It's a completely different culture.
- 7:54Speaker 1: No, I would be shell shocked too if I met you.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:56Speaker 1: Very much so.
- 7:57Speaker 2: So was there a moment that happened and you're like, oh,
- 8:01Speaker 2: dad's famous.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Oh, White Chicks premiere. Okay. Oh, and then, okay, so
- 8:06Speaker 1: I'll explain the premiere because I've never had such strobing
- 8:10Speaker 1: lights in my face as a child and everyone, I'm nervous.
- 8:14Speaker 1: I'm like ready to cry. I'm like anxious. They're walking
- 8:16Speaker 1: us down the carpet. I'm seeing people, I'm seeing like, Like,
- 8:21Speaker 1: so many comedic legends that I didn't really process at
- 8:24Speaker 1: the time who they were, like Eddie Murphy and Chris
- 8:26Speaker 1: Rock and, like, all these people. It was, like, the
- 8:29Speaker 1: biggest turnout for this one movie because it's the Wands. Like,
- 8:32Speaker 1: you're going to show out. That and, oh, my God,
- 8:36Speaker 1: there was a Comic-Con for something. I forgot what it
- 8:39Speaker 1: was for. Maybe it was Brooklyn Nine-Nine. That, I've never
- 8:43Speaker 1: seen so many just, like, white dudes be like, Derrick!
- 8:46Speaker 2: Like when you were walking down the street?
- 8:49Speaker 1: It was like there were times where I was afraid
- 8:52Speaker 1: for my life.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Really?
- 8:53Speaker 1: I've been trampled before. Oh my goodness. No, I could
- 8:57Speaker 1: tell those stories. Like we, there's this place called the
- 8:58Speaker 1: Paseo in Pasadena and you just go see movies there.
- 9:01Speaker 1: You get a bite to eat. There was a group
- 9:03Speaker 1: of teenagers after their prom or something and they swarmed
- 9:06Speaker 1: him and I was in the middle of that. And
- 9:08Speaker 1: they like pushed me out the way. I was like
- 9:10Speaker 1: rag doll. Like they couldn't get in one day. And
- 9:12Speaker 1: my dad was like, that's my daughter.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Leave her alone.
- 9:16Speaker 1: I remember being scared for them because he was so angry.
- 9:19Speaker 1: And so I was like, now I kind of have
- 9:21Speaker 1: this PTSD of like, I'm very hyper aware of when
- 9:24Speaker 1: people recognize him immediately. So if we're at dinner and
- 9:27Speaker 1: I'll see them like whispering, I'll be like, all right,
- 9:29Speaker 1: let's be ready for whatever happens. And it's usually nothing.
- 9:33Speaker 1: But now I'm like, alert, alert, alert. They're coming over.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Like I won't say it out loud. Right. And then,
- 9:38Speaker 1: any time we're in Brazil, Brazil fans are amazing.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Why Brazil?
- 9:43Speaker 1: Brazilian fans are like the superest fans of any fans
- 9:46Speaker 1: I've ever met. They are amazing. They love everybody who's Chris.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Because in Brazil culture, I feel like black TV is
- 9:54Speaker 1: so underappreciated because in that culture, they like highlight, you know,
- 10:00Speaker 1: white kind of looking Brazilians and majority of Brazil is black.
- 10:05Speaker 1: And so that show resonated with them. They're like, I
- 10:07Speaker 1: see my mom in Rochelle. I see my dad in Julia's.
- 10:10Speaker 1: And they love, everybody hates, it's like the number one thing.
- 10:13Speaker 1: And so every time we're there, I'm like, get ready, y'all.
- 10:18Speaker 3: So it felt like Lollapalooza every day.
- 10:21Speaker 1: Like just the biggest crowd I've ever seen. That's when
- 10:26Speaker 1: I was like, I was like 16 at that time.
- 10:27Speaker 1: I said, this is different. I've never seen anything like that.
- 10:31Speaker 2: So watching him and watching his, you know, just who
- 10:34Speaker 2: he is, his fame, the fans, how does that make
- 10:37Speaker 2: you feel as his daughter, just witnessing him on set?
- 10:40Speaker 1: True. I love my dad, but we're both Leos.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Ooh wee, Leo nation. Leo nation.
- 10:45Speaker 1: When's your birthday? August 10th. It just passed. I turned 28.
- 10:51Speaker 1: We love having friendly competition with each other. Because he
- 10:54Speaker 1: jokes around, but I know he's serious. He'll be like, ah,
- 10:57Speaker 1: everything's about me. I love it. It's me, me, me.
- 10:59Speaker 1: I go, eh. I'm almost there for me. I'm right
- 11:03Speaker 1: there with you. Of course, I rode on his bootstraps, absolutely.
- 11:07Speaker 1: But part of me, as a Leo, loves competition with him.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Anytime we were bowling, I'm like, oh, you're so old.
- 11:14Speaker 1: You're so rickety and old.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Not rickety.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Yes. And anytime, there would be times when... I remember
- 11:21Speaker 1: when my dad got hurt in the muscle one time
- 11:23Speaker 1: and he had to get surgery. And it was really, really...
- 11:27Speaker 1: like distressing moment, but we turned to laughter. Like my
- 11:29Speaker 1: family will roast the hell out of really mundane situations
- 11:34Speaker 1: that are not supposed to be that funny. And I
- 11:36Speaker 1: just remember, cause he would make fun of me all
- 11:38Speaker 1: the time and he's like, my broken ankle or something.
- 11:40Speaker 1: He'd be like, oh you're so limp and so small.
- 11:42Speaker 1: I'd be like, I'm gonna get you. And that time he,
- 11:46Speaker 1: busted his muscle I said oh little chicken wing muscle
- 11:49Speaker 1: now you're so small and he would just be like
- 11:52Speaker 1: I'm gonna get you and like try to like get
- 11:54Speaker 1: me I was like you can't touch me don't touch
- 11:57Speaker 1: me we have that joke like I'll be like oh
- 11:59Speaker 1: like I'll try to patronize him and be like don't Oh, wow.
- 12:03Speaker 1: We're really divas. Not divas. Divas in the house. Like,
- 12:06Speaker 1: me and him are the divas. And then my mom
- 12:08Speaker 1: is diva. She's a Capricorn.
- 12:10Speaker 2: Is she?
- 12:10Speaker 1: Diva.
- 12:11Speaker 2: But she deserves it.
- 12:12Speaker 1: And that's what I say. I'm always siding with her
- 12:14Speaker 1: in arguments.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Yeah, always. Always.
- 12:16Speaker 1: Solely because it'll be, like, the stupidest thing ever. And
- 12:18Speaker 1: my mom will be like, uh, Terry, you don't know
- 12:21Speaker 1: what you're talking about. I'm like, you're right. You don't
- 12:22Speaker 1: know what.
- 12:22Speaker 2: You're talking about. Whatever she says goes. So do you
- 12:25Speaker 2: guys as a family watch movies? White Chicks, Everybody Hates Chris,
- 12:29Speaker 2: any of the movies?
- 12:30Speaker 1: Is it blended? I love Everybody Hates Chris, and I
- 12:32Speaker 1: love Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
- 12:33Speaker 2: So you all watch them together? I love White Chicks too.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, so yes, there are times when TiVo was
- 12:38Speaker 1: a thing. You'd go back and record all the stuff
- 12:40Speaker 1: you missed, and so every new episode we'd be watching together,
- 12:43Speaker 1: or like Brooklyn Nine-Nine, every new one we'd watch together,
- 12:45Speaker 1: it was like a family bonding experience, and then there
- 12:50Speaker 1: are times you go on set, you meet people, and
- 12:52Speaker 1: some are the exact same, some are a little bit different,
- 12:55Speaker 1: but still the same. And yeah, with Everybody It's Kris,
- 12:59Speaker 1: I actually laughed out loud. That was one of the
- 13:02Speaker 1: shows I actually adore watching again because it's really, really,
- 13:07Speaker 1: really relatable. Brooklyn Nine-Nine too, that's more like I love
- 13:12Speaker 1: Andy Samberg and just everything he's ever done. Anything that
- 13:17Speaker 1: is a little bit corny, a little bit like, oh,
- 13:19Speaker 1: that's sweet, but also he slapped the black off him.
- 13:22Speaker 1: There's that type of energy you get from watching a
- 13:27Speaker 1: show where you're like, I have to watch that episode again.
- 13:29Speaker 1: That's actually so insane.
- 13:30Speaker 2: So your dad will sit there and watch his own episode?
- 13:33Speaker 1: Yes, he loves it.
- 13:35Speaker 2: He's not like one of those people who, no, he's not.
- 13:39Speaker 1: He's not one of those people that would be like,
- 13:40Speaker 1: I can't watch. He'd be like, again, again, like a
- 13:45Speaker 1: little repeating toy. Yes, I love that. No, he's a
- 13:49Speaker 1: big goofball. I feel like he makes us all really jovial.
- 13:53Speaker 1: Just really, really happy. It's really fun.
- 13:56Speaker 2: So what's the best piece of advice that he's giving you?
- 13:59Speaker 2: Or even, I guess a two-part question. As you're watching
- 14:02Speaker 2: him do his craft, anything that you've taken from him,
- 14:08Speaker 2: his work ethic, discipline, that you instill in just what
- 14:12Speaker 2: you do today? Any lesson, advice?
- 14:14Speaker 1: Ooh, you know what? I'm still kind of battling this,
- 14:21Speaker 1: but it's like the try, try again trope, where like
- 14:24Speaker 1: the no's, all the no's you'll ever get and you're
- 14:27Speaker 1: gonna get that one yes someday but you have to
- 14:29Speaker 1: keep going. I hate it. Like, I hate hearing that
- 14:32Speaker 1: because I am such a, fuck it, I'm leaving, I'm
- 14:34Speaker 1: not doing this anymore type of person. And he was like, no, like,
- 14:38Speaker 1: I've done so many things and they all amounted to
- 14:42Speaker 1: something eventually but I was like, you have so much
- 14:45Speaker 1: more going for yourself and all these, like, I would
- 14:47Speaker 1: just kind of put myself down in a way and
- 14:49Speaker 1: he'd be like, don't say that about yourself. Like, don't
- 14:52Speaker 1: put yourself in a position that you already are defeated. Yeah.
- 14:55Speaker 1: And I still, to this day, I'm like, like, I
- 14:58Speaker 1: don't know what life is planning for me right now,
- 15:01Speaker 1: but the, honestly, the more I was like writing down
- 15:04Speaker 1: in my journals and writing down mood boards and putting
- 15:07Speaker 1: pictures up of what I wanted, half that stuff has
- 15:09Speaker 1: already happened this year and I didn't even realize until
- 15:11Speaker 1: I checked. Wow. So I was like, I'm slowly but
- 15:15Speaker 1: surely just living my life and just not saying no.
- 15:19Speaker 1: And now it's really helping. Not saying no.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:22Speaker 1: Like when opportunities come, I'm not going to be like, oh,
- 15:24Speaker 1: that's too small for me or that's too big for me.
- 15:27Speaker 1: I'm just going to be like, okay, they wanted me
- 15:29Speaker 1: for a reason. Like that part of my life, I'm
- 15:32Speaker 1: doing that now. Like I didn't see myself being, I
- 15:35Speaker 1: was a nanny for so long. I didn't see myself
- 15:37Speaker 1: doing that. Oh, really? Yeah, I was a nanny for
- 15:38Speaker 1: like 10 years. Oh. So the majority of my jobs
- 15:41Speaker 1: back in the day, like babysitting, junior camp counseling, like
- 15:44Speaker 1: I was really heavily involved with like helping children just
- 15:48Speaker 1: like develop and like just grow because I grew up
- 15:51Speaker 1: with my siblings. I raised them basically. And a part
- 15:55Speaker 1: of that, I was watching my childhood through their eyes
- 15:58Speaker 1: and they would tell me their dreams and I would
- 16:00Speaker 1: just be like, oh my gosh, I feel like I'm
- 16:03Speaker 1: purposely in this moment now to tell you this because
- 16:05Speaker 1: I had that. Yes. So insane. Yes. I forgot what
- 16:09Speaker 1: the question was, but I'm good.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Any advice and things that you gained from your dad?
- 16:15Speaker 1: He passed that on to me.
- 16:15Speaker 2: You never say no.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Yes, he passed that on to me, and I felt
- 16:18Speaker 1: like that was really important for me to hear. I'm
- 16:21Speaker 1: still having a hard time hearing that, but I now
- 16:25Speaker 1: can see it moving. It's really fun.
- 16:28Speaker 2: No, that's beautiful. So from a daughter's perspective, what's one
- 16:33Speaker 2: thing about Terry that people wouldn't know from the outside
- 16:36Speaker 2: looking in?
- 16:38Speaker 1: Yeah, he's a pretty quiet guy, actually. Me and my
- 16:41Speaker 1: siblings are the loudest ones. Yes, he's not shouting at
- 16:46Speaker 1: the level of an Old Spice commercial all the time.
- 16:49Speaker 1: He very much is just like, hey, Tara, how you been? Oh,
- 16:52Speaker 1: that's good. I'm glad. But then I will say if
- 16:56Speaker 1: we start talking about something he really enjoys or a
- 16:59Speaker 1: movie we all just watched, he'd be like, ah, this
- 17:01Speaker 1: part was so cool. This part sucked. He'll have an opinion.
- 17:05Speaker 1: But he's most time quiet. because he does so much,
- 17:09Speaker 1: he comes home to really unwind. But when you've got
- 17:12Speaker 1: loud ass daughters and one boy who plays video games
- 17:15Speaker 1: at max volume, he's just, and also he is partially
- 17:20Speaker 1: deaf in one ear. So a lot of times he
- 17:22Speaker 1: really can't actually hear us.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Oh, interesting.
- 17:24Speaker 1: So yeah, yeah. He has a, it's not a cochlear implant.
- 17:27Speaker 1: It's like a hearing aid. Okay. But, There are times
- 17:30Speaker 1: when I'll catch him without it. I'm like, can you
- 17:31Speaker 1: even hear me right now? He'll be like, yes.
- 17:34Speaker 2: He's such a troll, Tara. Like, oh my God.
- 17:36Speaker 1: He'll be like, I heard you, yes, of course.
- 17:40Speaker 2: But just even imagine him on set trying to just
- 17:43Speaker 2: like navigate that. I mean, now knowing that's pretty incredible
- 17:48Speaker 2: that he's able to just deal with that.
- 17:50Speaker 1: And he can hear higher pitches. Lower pitches are harder
- 17:54Speaker 1: for him. So he'll be able to hear like our
- 17:56Speaker 1: dog yapping. But for me, I have a lower register sometimes.
- 18:00Speaker 1: And if he's not looking at me and I'll say something,
- 18:02Speaker 1: he will not respond. I'll be like, hey, can you da-da-da?
- 18:05Speaker 1: I'll be like, oh yeah, da-da. And it's, I now
- 18:09Speaker 1: in my head, I'm like, am I going to have
- 18:10Speaker 1: to learn ASL? I already did a little bit, but
- 18:12Speaker 1: I'm like, I feel like we should all do that
- 18:14Speaker 1: as a family. Just in case. But he's doing great.
- 18:19Speaker 1: There's nothing wrong with this man. He just, I feel
- 18:21Speaker 1: like sometimes he will lie and be like, I didn't
- 18:24Speaker 1: hear what you said.
- 18:25Speaker 2: I would use it to my advantage. I would too.
- 18:29Speaker 2: I didn't hear nothing.
- 18:30Speaker 1: I would too.
- 18:31Speaker 2: I love it.
- 18:32Speaker 1: Okay.
- 18:32Speaker 2: So now let's get into the fishbowl. Yes. Oh, yay.
- 18:35Speaker 2: So before you pull, let me at least give a
- 18:40Speaker 2: little just explanation as to why we got the fishbowl.
- 18:44Speaker 1: Awesome.
- 18:45Speaker 2: A fishbowl is transparent. You can see what's inside, right?
- 18:48Speaker 1: Right.
- 18:48Speaker 2: And when we think about legacy, so much of it
- 18:51Speaker 2: is viewed from the outside. The success, the accomplishments, the names.
- 18:56Speaker 2: But there's always more beneath the surface, the pressure, the purpose,
- 19:00Speaker 2: and the experiences that shape who we all become. So
- 19:04Speaker 2: inside the bowl are different parts of the journey. Whatever
- 19:07Speaker 2: you pull, we talk about.
- 19:09Speaker 1: Ooh, I love that. And once it's out, it's out.
- 19:11Speaker 1: So go ahead, Sarah.
- 19:13Speaker 2: Pick your first token. Pick your first one. Let's see.
- 19:16Speaker 1: Now, let's see.
- 19:17Speaker 2: Dooley, dooley, doo. Dooley, dooley, dooley.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Okay, what's this?
- 19:22Speaker 2: Let's see.
- 19:23Speaker 1: Miscellaneous?
- 19:24Speaker 2: Miscellaneous.
- 19:25Speaker 1: All right.
- 19:26Speaker 2: We love miscellaneous.
- 19:28Speaker 1: Oh, Lord.
- 19:28Speaker 2: So miscellaneous is just random questions.
- 19:30Speaker 1: Oh, no, perfect.
- 19:30Speaker 2: Okay, this is fun. Here we go. Text or FaceTime?
- 19:34Speaker 1: Ooh, I used to be a FaceTimer. I'm now....
- 19:39Speaker 2: Or call or FaceTime.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Oh my gosh. Now that, okay. I'm trying to rate
- 19:47Speaker 1: one over the other. I'd rather... text than call than FaceTime.
- 19:53Speaker 2: Text, call, then FaceTime. Okay, okay. So you really don't,
- 19:56Speaker 2: you're not a FaceTimer then.
- 19:57Speaker 1: Not anymore, really.
- 19:59Speaker 2: Oh, this is a good one. L.A. or New York nightlife?
- 20:02Speaker 1: I actually, funny enough, I have not been out in
- 20:05Speaker 1: New York enough. What? I really haven't. And I used
- 20:07Speaker 1: to live out there, but I was a minor. I
- 20:09Speaker 1: did go out, but I wasn't really like out, out, out, out, out.
- 20:12Speaker 1: Like it would be like the cute little hookah bars
- 20:13Speaker 1: or something. Like I wasn't. So yeah, L.A., solely because
- 20:16Speaker 1: I know.
- 20:17Speaker 2: But I feel like you would eat New York.
- 20:18Speaker 1: I would dare. And I have so many friends out there.
- 20:21Speaker 2: I really do.
- 20:21Speaker 1: I love New York. Y'all, please give me the racks.
- 20:23Speaker 1: Let's go to New York.
- 20:24Speaker 2: We're going to have to do something. We're all going
- 20:26Speaker 2: to have to go.
- 20:26Speaker 1: We might as well. Yes.
- 20:28Speaker 2: For sure.
- 20:29Speaker 1: That's so fun.
- 20:29Speaker 2: What's one song that will always get you on the
- 20:32Speaker 2: dance floor?
- 20:32Speaker 1: I know mine.
- 20:36Speaker 2: I know mine too.
- 20:37Speaker 1: You know what? It might be probably Virgo's Groove. Probably
- 20:43Speaker 1: some Beyonce. In the sense that anything that she has,
- 20:47Speaker 1: I'm just going to be. Or like some Crazy in Love.
- 20:51Speaker 1: Or like, I'm trying to think of another artist that's
- 20:53Speaker 1: not Beyonce. Probably like, oh my gosh, this is actually
- 20:59Speaker 1: so interesting.
- 21:00Speaker 2: Can I share mine? Okay, you guys, we have to
- 21:03Speaker 2: be honest. When Shake That Monkey, when that.
- 21:05Speaker 1: Okay.
- 21:06Speaker 2: Like you already know it's over. Like the dun, dun, dun.
- 21:10Speaker 2: Like you already know. That is like our theme song
- 21:12Speaker 2: to gather our belongings and just get.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Shake that monkey. No, that's right. Listen. I was going
- 21:17Speaker 1: to say back that thing up. Okay. Oh, that's what
- 21:20Speaker 1: I meant.
- 21:20Speaker 2: But shake that monkey too. Did you say shake that
- 21:23Speaker 2: monkey thinking back that thing up? I was thinking back that.
- 21:26Speaker 1: Any yin yang twins, anything.
- 21:27Speaker 2: Any yin yang.
- 21:28Speaker 1: In the sense that.
- 21:29Speaker 2: That's what I meant, y'all.
- 21:30Speaker 1: No, that's fair.
- 21:31Speaker 2: I actually agree.
- 21:32Speaker 1: I am over you right now. I am so over you. Honestly,
- 21:35Speaker 1: I was with her because I also was. Once you
- 21:37Speaker 1: said that, I was like, I know what she's talking about.
- 21:40Speaker 2: I meant back that ass. You're right.
- 21:42Speaker 1: You guys. She's fine.
- 21:43Speaker 2: Two plus two doesn't always equal four from me.
- 21:46Speaker 1: Put the gun down.
- 21:47Speaker 2: Put it down. Y'all knew what I meant. Juvenile. Y'all
- 21:52Speaker 2: knew what I meant. We knew what you meant, baby.
- 21:54Speaker 1: It's okay.
- 21:54Speaker 2: Juvenile.
- 21:55Speaker 1: Sorry.
- 21:55Speaker 2: It's so hilarious.
- 21:58Speaker 1: Oh, anything Pretty Ricky, too. Listen, my friend, she brought
- 22:05Speaker 1: the love back out of me with those songs. When
- 22:08Speaker 1: they did the verses, I was like, y'all. Come on.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Y'all know Pretty Ricky don't get down. I will never
- 22:14Speaker 2: act right.
- 22:14Speaker 1: I'm sorry. I love B2K.
- 22:15Speaker 2: Who do you think won?
- 22:17Speaker 1: It was Pretty Ricky. It was obviously Pretty Ricky. And
- 22:20Speaker 1: I'm a B2K fan.
- 22:21Speaker 2: I am too.
- 22:22Speaker 1: And my jaw was like, okay, Omarion, sing the songs.
- 22:25Speaker 2: Oh, you said Omarion.
- 22:26Speaker 1: No, no, no, because he was going to have to.
- 22:28Speaker 1: They were going to lose if they didn't. I was
- 22:30Speaker 1: begging for them to win, and I went, no, Pretty
- 22:32Speaker 1: Ricky clearly won.
- 22:33Speaker 2: I love how invested you were.
- 22:34Speaker 1: Definitely. It was a good versus though.
- 22:37Speaker 2: It was.
- 22:37Speaker 1: It was really good.
- 22:38Speaker 2: Okay, tequila or champagne?
- 22:40Speaker 1: Tequila. Next question. Champagne? Champagne. I love day drinking with champagne.
- 22:45Speaker 1: It just makes me really sleepy after.
- 22:47Speaker 2: It makes me so sleepy.
- 22:48Speaker 1: All the bubbly. It makes me feel like if I'm
- 22:50Speaker 1: drinking a beer, I'm like yeasty. Like I'm going to
- 22:53Speaker 1: explode later. I'm probably going to throw up too.
- 22:55Speaker 2: I can only have two and then I'm done.
- 22:57Speaker 1: No, tequila is straight to the point. Yes.
- 22:59Speaker 2: She said it straight to the point.
- 23:02Speaker 1: It is.
- 23:02Speaker 2: Okay. This is a good one. Who's funnier, mom or dad?
- 23:10Speaker 1: You know, because it's like different funny. My mom is
- 23:13Speaker 1: like the, she takes from her mom. So she'll get
- 23:17Speaker 1: all that. She's not Southern, but her mom is. So
- 23:20Speaker 1: she'll be like, oh, you gonna date that? Like, she'll
- 23:23Speaker 1: say stuff and I'll be like, what are you saying? Like,
- 23:25Speaker 1: I don't even know what that, like, when I was
- 23:28Speaker 1: a kid, she'd be like, look at you walking around
- 23:30Speaker 1: holes in your pants like, who shot John? And I'm like,
- 23:33Speaker 1: that's not a word that nobody uses no more. Who
- 23:35Speaker 1: shot John? And I would crack up. But my dad
- 23:38Speaker 1: is the one that will just like, He'll make fun
- 23:42Speaker 1: of your entire being, but it's so funny.
- 23:44Speaker 2: The entire being. Just roast you for no reason.
- 23:47Speaker 1: Yeah, but it's so playful, and you can only be like,
- 23:50Speaker 1: he's right.
- 23:52Speaker 2: Like, he ain't lying. Yes.
- 23:55Speaker 1: He is not lying. I feel like it is my dad,
- 23:58Speaker 1: but it's only because my mom has to play the
- 24:00Speaker 1: straight man and be like, Terry, that ain't funny. Stop
- 24:01Speaker 1: being mean to that girl. And so, yes, in a sense,
- 24:04Speaker 1: he wants to be more funny. Okay.
- 24:06Speaker 2: He does, yes. Okay, what about advice, mom or dad?
- 24:10Speaker 1: Oh, my mom, for sure. In the sense of, because
- 24:13Speaker 1: we're women, it's just like, I'll be like, oh, mama, please.
- 24:18Speaker 1: I want to kill this man. Like, help me. And
- 24:20Speaker 1: she'll be like, I've been there, done that. This is
- 24:23Speaker 1: how you got to handle it. And she's always the ones, like,
- 24:26Speaker 1: if I have any type of trouble, she'll be like,
- 24:29Speaker 1: I knew that girl would know good.
- 24:32Speaker 2: And I'll be like, you were right. Ain't that crazy?
- 24:34Speaker 2: Mamas know everything.
- 24:36Speaker 1: Like I get premonition dreams from the women in my family.
- 24:39Speaker 1: So a lot of times it'll be like stuff warning
- 24:41Speaker 1: me in dreams and she'll have the same thing.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Really?
- 24:45Speaker 1: I wish I was joking. My mom will have like
- 24:47Speaker 1: premonition dreams and be like, don't go out tonight. Really?
- 24:50Speaker 1: I'll be like, mom, stop scaring me.
- 24:52Speaker 2: Wow.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Most time it is true. Like it'll be like a
- 24:55Speaker 1: huge crazy car crash happening somewhere where I was supposed
- 24:58Speaker 1: to be at or like someone getting shot or something.
- 25:00Speaker 1: And I'm like. I don't like that. I don't like
- 25:02Speaker 1: that you're right. Like, I don't like when you end
- 25:05Speaker 1: up being right because I'm like, she's just nanana boo boo. Like,
- 25:08Speaker 1: sometimes I feel like it's like she just wants me
- 25:11Speaker 1: to be her baby. But then I'm like, no, she's
- 25:13Speaker 1: really protecting me.
- 25:14Speaker 2: She's really trying to protect you.
- 25:15Speaker 1: She's giving me advice to really help me. Yeah, she is.
- 25:17Speaker 1: And I'm like, you're nuts. And I'm like, she's not nuts.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Do you have children?
- 25:22Speaker 1: No. Okay.
- 25:23Speaker 2: I was going to say, once you have your babies,
- 25:25Speaker 2: you're going to look back and totally understand where mama
- 25:28Speaker 2: was coming from. Oh, that's sad. Ooh-wee. How many more?
- 25:32Speaker 2: These are actually really good. Let's do one more. Okay,
- 25:34Speaker 2: let's do one more. Ooh, okay, okay, okay, okay.
- 25:37Speaker 1: That was hard.
- 25:39Speaker 2: Okay. Well, this is hard. Okay, okay, okay, okay. She said, okay,
- 25:44Speaker 2: come on. What's making you genuinely happy right now?
- 25:47Speaker 1: Oh, I love that.
- 25:49Speaker 2: Hmm.
- 25:52Speaker 1: Ooh, I... This is so out of pocket and really funny.
- 25:56Speaker 2: I want to hear it.
- 25:57Speaker 1: I went to a birthday party recently and she, it
- 25:59Speaker 1: was like early 2000s themed and she was handing out slime. Girl,
- 26:03Speaker 1: I lost my mind. I said, I feel like a
- 26:06Speaker 1: child again. Like I'm now collecting old memorabilia toys and games,
- 26:11Speaker 1: like board games that I haven't played in so long.
- 26:14Speaker 1: I'm just reliving my childhood as an adult basically. So
- 26:18Speaker 1: I'll buy like, like I've been searching for like old
- 26:20Speaker 1: Mycene dolls that I used to have and I'm like,
- 26:23Speaker 1: Are they mint condition? Or like an old card game
- 26:26Speaker 1: or like a new card game that I haven't tried before.
- 26:28Speaker 1: My family knows I love a game night. So like
- 26:31Speaker 1: I've just been collecting games and like toys and stuff
- 26:34Speaker 1: that I'm like, I would love to give this to
- 26:36Speaker 1: someone who really wanted it and needed it. But for now,
- 26:40Speaker 1: it's kind of like a hobby of mine. I also
- 26:43Speaker 1: collect fans. So every time I go to a country. Yeah,
- 26:46Speaker 1: like an actual fan. If you see me out, I'm
- 26:48Speaker 1: carrying a handheld. Because the girl's got the electric and
- 26:53Speaker 1: it dies. Girl, now you have nothing. So now, yeah,
- 26:56Speaker 1: I went to Japan, Brazil, like all these places and
- 26:58Speaker 1: would just be like, oh, I want to like a
- 27:00Speaker 1: cute signature fan to bring home and like put on
- 27:02Speaker 1: my wall.
- 27:03Speaker 2: That's so fun.
- 27:04Speaker 1: Stuff like that.
- 27:04Speaker 2: That's a fun thing.
- 27:05Speaker 1: Like just collecting more things. Yeah. It's really fun.
- 27:07Speaker 2: That's a fun fact about you.
- 27:08Speaker 1: Okay.
- 27:09Speaker 2: I love that. All right. Collecting more things.
- 27:11Speaker 1: Oh my gosh. Yay.
- 27:12Speaker 2: Let's see what's next. No peeking.
- 27:15Speaker 1: Oh, right. Of course. Yes. I'm never going to do that. No. Okay. Okay. Cute.
- 27:22Speaker 2: Purpose.
- 27:23Speaker 1: All right.
- 27:26Speaker 2: Let's see.
- 27:29Speaker 3: When you hear the word purpose, what does that mean
- 27:31Speaker 3: to you? And do you feel like you've found yours yet?
- 27:35Speaker 1: I do think I have in a way because I've
- 27:38Speaker 1: always just loved making people joyful and experience life the
- 27:43Speaker 1: way I do. Not to put any type of purpose
- 27:46Speaker 1: on them. I love to entertain. I've been that way
- 27:50Speaker 1: since I was a girl. I love to sing, dance, act.
- 27:52Speaker 1: I was in musical theater. I just love, I was
- 27:56Speaker 1: like the class clown, basically. I really love seeing people
- 28:00Speaker 1: smile and like, whenever there's like a dull moment, I'll
- 28:03Speaker 1: be like, so, did you do that? And it's like,
- 28:05Speaker 1: I can never just let a moment sit and like
- 28:08Speaker 1: actually be in, I'm in the moment, but I'm also
- 28:10Speaker 1: being like, how can I make this a better experience? Oh,
- 28:13Speaker 1: I love that though.
- 28:14Speaker 2: That's great. That's a really good characteristic.
- 28:16Speaker 1: Which I love. And I feel like my purpose in
- 28:19Speaker 1: that is to kind of broaden it out. So like,
- 28:21Speaker 1: even with my content, I'm like, how can I bring
- 28:25Speaker 1: people back without me sounding annoying? And also trying to
- 28:29Speaker 1: give people what they want. You know, they want a
- 28:31Speaker 1: little bit of him. They want a little bit of me.
- 28:32Speaker 1: They want the family dynamic. They also want, oh, where
- 28:35Speaker 1: do you go? Have you been on any flights like this?
- 28:38Speaker 1: And all this. So I'm like, I am the human machine.
- 28:42Speaker 1: I'm like kind of always doing that. And then in
- 28:46Speaker 1: that way, I'm also trying to find a purpose of
- 28:48Speaker 1: just already being happy not doing that at all. So
- 28:51Speaker 1: I really, even today, I was like, how much content
- 28:54Speaker 1: should I make? Should I be normal about it? Or
- 28:56Speaker 1: should it just be like a whole thing? I was like,
- 28:59Speaker 1: the less the better, because also you're going to just
- 29:01Speaker 1: delete some stuff too. But yeah, my purpose I feel
- 29:05Speaker 1: like is to truly bring joy, I really love. I really,
- 29:09Speaker 1: really love making people feel good.
- 29:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:13Speaker 1: That's beautiful.
- 29:14Speaker 2: Do you feel like passion and purpose are the same thing?
- 29:17Speaker 2: Or are they separated?
- 29:18Speaker 1: Ooh, no, I don't. In the sense of, you could
- 29:21Speaker 1: be really good at one thing and really good at
- 29:23Speaker 1: the same time, another thing at the same time, and
- 29:26Speaker 1: your purpose could come from your passion. Like some people,
- 29:31Speaker 1: you know, they went to school for so long for
- 29:33Speaker 1: one thing and then they delve into another thing solely
- 29:35Speaker 1: because their passion was like, oh, I kind of like
- 29:37Speaker 1: this field.
- 29:38Speaker 2: We try it.
- 29:39Speaker 1: It doesn't always mean where you're on is your purpose. Yes, yes, yes.
- 29:43Speaker 1: But your passion will lead you to your right one,
- 29:46Speaker 1: I think. It doesn't have to be the same, but
- 29:48Speaker 1: I do think it could kind of divulge you in which,
- 29:51Speaker 1: like a fork in the road. Like which way should
- 29:53Speaker 1: we do this? The easy way or the hard way?
- 29:55Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 29:58Speaker 3: That kind of segues us into the next question of
- 30:01Speaker 3: everything that you've learned so far about life. What's one
- 30:05Speaker 3: truth you know now that you wish you understood when
- 30:08Speaker 3: you were younger?
- 30:09Speaker 1: It's okay to be sensitive. I'm a very sensitive girl.
- 30:15Speaker 1: I cry.
- 30:16Speaker 2: Leo, Leo, Leo, Leo.
- 30:18Speaker 1: And like our whole thing is like, our whole thing
- 30:21Speaker 1: is like, That doesn't bother me, but it so bothers
- 30:23Speaker 1: you so bad.
- 30:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I hate women.
- 30:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 30:25Speaker 2: I used to be that person too, though, so I
- 30:27Speaker 2: can understand. Yeah, your heart is just.
- 30:29Speaker 1: That's women in general. We always have to be tough
- 30:32Speaker 1: about some stupid stuff.
- 30:33Speaker 2: Yes, yes.
- 30:34Speaker 1: No, I'm going to crash out about this really bad.
- 30:39Speaker 1: And then next day, you know what it is too?
- 30:41Speaker 1: I am a bottler. I'll bottle it. cry the whole
- 30:44Speaker 1: night long and wake up like, thank God I did that.
- 30:47Speaker 2: Now I can move on.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Who taught you that? Nobody. I did.
- 30:50Speaker 2: Girl. It's a good trait to have.
- 30:54Speaker 1: It was years of like living in the most like
- 30:57Speaker 1: toxic situation with like some exes I had and like
- 31:01Speaker 1: I didn't want to cry in front of them. I
- 31:02Speaker 1: was like, I'm not going to give you the satisfaction
- 31:03Speaker 1: of my tears. And it would make, but of course
- 31:06Speaker 1: I would be crying. But in the sense of like,
- 31:09Speaker 1: I'm going to get my shit together. I'm going to
- 31:10Speaker 1: do this, all this stuff without you. And that whole
- 31:15Speaker 1: internalizing pain and suffering, a lot of times to make
- 31:20Speaker 1: other people feel more comfortable. And with friends, they would
- 31:25Speaker 1: never ask me to do such things, but I would
- 31:27Speaker 1: never tell them what was really wrong with me.
- 31:29Speaker 2: Wow.
- 31:30Speaker 1: And, like, during dinners and stuff, and I would just
- 31:33Speaker 1: have a random tear come down. I'd go, oh, sorry. Like,
- 31:37Speaker 1: I'm going through stuff, and I didn't tell any of y'all. Wow.
- 31:40Speaker 1: And they'd be like, oh, my God. And I was like,
- 31:42Speaker 1: you know why? Because I'm the happy-go-lucky girl of the group,
- 31:45Speaker 1: kind of. And so I would never be the one to, like,
- 31:49Speaker 1: have the hard conversations. I would leave that to everyone else. Wow.
- 31:52Speaker 1: And I would be there to comfort, and I would
- 31:53Speaker 1: be there for them. And they would be there for
- 31:56Speaker 1: me too. I just would not let it happen.
- 31:58Speaker 2: You just didn't allow them to do it.
- 32:00Speaker 1: Wow. They're like my best friends ever. I grew up
- 32:01Speaker 1: with them from elementary up until now. And it was
- 32:05Speaker 1: that type of like, laugh it out. Be jolly, be merry.
- 32:10Speaker 1: Then go home and like, all right, let's watch a sad,
- 32:14Speaker 1: let's do a sad song. So yeah. Yeah, that's definitely
- 32:18Speaker 1: one of them.
- 32:20Speaker 2: So I guess it's a good point because I think
- 32:23Speaker 2: a lot of people struggle with that. Like not... wanting
- 32:26Speaker 2: to be vulnerable, especially when you're the person who's always together.
- 32:31Speaker 1: Right? Like, you're... I want to act like I have
- 32:33Speaker 1: stuff together. Yeah, exactly.
- 32:34Speaker 2: But they see.
- 32:35Speaker 1: Me kind of struggling in the sense of, like, people
- 32:37Speaker 1: will see you struggle but don't want to, like... How
- 32:41Speaker 1: do I say this? Don't want to throw you out
- 32:43Speaker 1: of your loop of happiness. Mm-hmm.
- 32:45Speaker 2: Okay.
- 32:46Speaker 1: Because I'm going, everything is great. And they're like.
- 32:48Speaker 2: But they can see that you're not.
- 32:49Speaker 1: Yeah, we see that your room is dirty and, like, it's, like,
- 32:52Speaker 1: not cute and, like... Like, you'll come with, like, you
- 32:57Speaker 1: didn't wash your face, eye crusties.
- 32:59Speaker 2: They're like, are you okay?
- 33:00Speaker 1: Like, what's going on? Because it's out of my norm.
- 33:02Speaker 2: Right.
- 33:02Speaker 1: I'll be like, girl, I'm the best I've ever been.
- 33:05Speaker 2: I'm looking, what?
- 33:07Speaker 1: It's that. So they'll notice. And I'll be the one
- 33:09Speaker 1: to be like, don't worry about it. I'm so very
- 33:13Speaker 1: much like put a Band-Aid on that.
- 33:15Speaker 2: Yeah. Now, do you think that's healthy?
- 33:17Speaker 1: Oh, absolutely not. Okay.
- 33:18Speaker 2: Absolutely not.
- 33:19Speaker 1: I have been in therapy for a minute. Oh, good.
- 33:21Speaker 2: Any advice?
- 33:22Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 33:23Speaker 2: That you would give somebody who's trying to figure it out,
- 33:26Speaker 2: but also they're the person that everyone goes to and
- 33:29Speaker 2: they feel like they're the person who always has to
- 33:32Speaker 2: have it together. But there's just going to be, when
- 33:34Speaker 2: you have human experiences, Tara, you're not always going to
- 33:37Speaker 2: have it together and it's okay. So how do you
- 33:39Speaker 2: make someone feel comfortable with saying, I'm not okay?
- 33:46Speaker 1: I would say put it in a way that that
- 33:51Speaker 1: makes you feel the most comfortable to say it. Because
- 33:55Speaker 1: the way I go about it is sometimes I'll just
- 33:58Speaker 1: run through the sentence and I'll be like, what? You
- 34:01Speaker 1: said what? Right. And I'll be like, yeah. So here's
- 34:05Speaker 1: what really happened. And don't be afraid that you're over-talking.
- 34:10Speaker 1: I would get a lot of notes from teachers and
- 34:13Speaker 1: stuff and be like, she would talk all through class.
- 34:15Speaker 1: And then I would. But I loved over-explaining stuff.
- 34:20Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 34:21Speaker 1: Put it in a way that you feel like you're
- 34:24Speaker 1: sharing what you want to share. But it's also like, oh,
- 34:30Speaker 1: I feel bad for my younger self, too, because I
- 34:31Speaker 1: would just put myself through hell trying to be normal.
- 34:35Speaker 2: Wow.
- 34:36Speaker 1: And like ADD, ADHD, like you're running through a million
- 34:41Speaker 1: thoughts a minute and you're trying to slow yourself down,
- 34:44Speaker 1: but you want to get the point across.
- 34:45Speaker 2: Right.
- 34:46Speaker 1: So getting your point across with your friends is easy.
- 34:48Speaker 1: They are very understanding of you. It's just you trying
- 34:51Speaker 1: to explain everything that could have been like, you're sitting
- 34:55Speaker 1: there like, well, he did this to me, but only
- 34:57Speaker 1: because I, and it's like, you don't even have to
- 34:58Speaker 1: explain that part.
- 34:59Speaker 2: You don't have to do that, yes. Moral of the story,
- 35:01Speaker 2: you don't have to be okay. And it's okay to
- 35:03Speaker 2: say that you're not okay.
- 35:05Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 35:05Speaker 2: That's just, and I think the first step for everyone
- 35:08Speaker 2: is just to say that. I'm not okay.
- 35:11Speaker 1: Yeah, I know.
- 35:11Speaker 2: And you just take it from there. And then wherever
- 35:14Speaker 2: the wind blows you after you get it out, it
- 35:16Speaker 2: just takes you.
- 35:17Speaker 1: Yep. It's there. Very good.
- 35:19Speaker 2: Great segment, honey. Oh, thank you. All right. The next one.
- 35:24Speaker 2: Let's close your eyes and shake it.
- 35:25Speaker 1: These look like little mini cookies.
- 35:26Speaker 2: Aren't they cute? Like a vanilla wafer.
- 35:28Speaker 1: They should be scented like cinnamon. Oh.
- 35:31Speaker 2: Pressure.
- 35:32Speaker 1: Pressure.
- 35:33Speaker 2: Okay, go ahead, girl. Okay, well, let's dive right into
- 35:36Speaker 2: this one.
- 35:36Speaker 3: Did you ever feel pressure growing up in the Cruz household?
- 35:39Speaker 1: You know what? Yes and no.
- 35:41Speaker 3: Okay.
- 35:41Speaker 1: Academically, probably when I was younger because I didn't know
- 35:44Speaker 1: I had, like, learning problems. So I'm over here thinking, like, oh,
- 35:51Speaker 1: they probably, I just didn't do my homework. Like, I
- 35:53Speaker 1: was one of those kids that if I got a B,
- 35:55Speaker 1: my mom would not, she wouldn't trip.
- 35:57Speaker 2: Right.
- 35:58Speaker 1: She was not on me about getting the best grades.
- 36:01Speaker 1: She just wanted me to do my best. Yeah. But
- 36:03Speaker 1: I took that as, like, I can't do anything. Like,
- 36:07Speaker 1: I would put pressure on myself. Uh-huh. to be better
- 36:10Speaker 1: and that would send me into like anxiety spiral and
- 36:14Speaker 1: like early onset depression you know what too um i
- 36:18Speaker 1: do think tv and the the the naturalization of computers
- 36:24Speaker 1: did not help with that what do you mean so
- 36:27Speaker 1: i grew up in the age of like like tivo
- 36:29Speaker 1: and still vhs all the way up but like Being
- 36:33Speaker 1: in front of a screen, like I was a heavy
- 36:35Speaker 1: computer kid. And so I would learn a bunch of
- 36:38Speaker 1: stuff from the computer. And so I felt like being
- 36:41Speaker 1: at school was just like nothing to me. Like I
- 36:44Speaker 1: didn't realize the impact that that had on me. So
- 36:49Speaker 1: growing up in an environment where my mom was like, girl,
- 36:53Speaker 1: just you got to sit down and just focus. And
- 36:55Speaker 1: I would literally shake. Like it was so hard for me.
- 36:58Speaker 1: I figured out. early on when I would do the
- 37:03Speaker 1: tests and all these things, I was like, my problem
- 37:07Speaker 1: isn't about, sometimes it would be the timing, like if
- 37:10Speaker 1: it's a timed test, or sometimes my problem would be
- 37:12Speaker 1: the subject. I would be really good at math, science,
- 37:14Speaker 1: and history. Did I say math? I'm not good at math.
- 37:19Speaker 1: That was my main problem.
- 37:21Speaker 2: That's hilarious.
- 37:21Speaker 1: Math was like really, it would just make me want
- 37:24Speaker 1: to vomit. Like I would hate it so much. But
- 37:26Speaker 1: every other subject I was really, really fond of. But
- 37:29Speaker 1: it was always stuff like that where it's like, this
- 37:33Speaker 1: is the simplest thing ever and you can't, and I
- 37:35Speaker 1: would just lose it. And so the only actual pressure
- 37:40Speaker 1: I would feel like outside of school was, okay, so
- 37:45Speaker 1: my parents would ask like, do you want to have
- 37:47Speaker 1: a business? Do you want to do something in the arts?
- 37:49Speaker 1: Do you want to do anything in the acting world?
- 37:52Speaker 1: And we'd be like, yeah, of course we want, I
- 37:54Speaker 1: wanna be on Disney Channel, I wanna do all these things. Hard, hard,
- 37:58Speaker 1: even with connections, hard. Like, we really, because my dad
- 38:01Speaker 1: would be out of town, we wouldn't really use our
- 38:03Speaker 1: name to do anything much. And so we would go
- 38:06Speaker 1: on auditions and commercials and blah, blah, blah. And, yeah, no,
- 38:10Speaker 1: being black in L.A., you learn quickly. They're like, could
- 38:15Speaker 1: you do that in another type of accent?
- 38:17Speaker 2: A blacker accent?
- 38:18Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 38:19Speaker 2: A blacker accent?
- 38:20Speaker 1: No doubt, no doubt. And, yeah. Yeah. They wanted, like,
- 38:24Speaker 1: you know, we'd audition for certain types of films that
- 38:26Speaker 1: were very, like, we didn't grow up in that environment.
- 38:28Speaker 1: And we'd have to be like, how do we act?
- 38:31Speaker 1: How do we act like we weren't in the suburbs, child?
- 38:34Speaker 1: We was in the suburbs. Like, I'm not going to
- 38:36Speaker 1: sit here and act like I'm doing anything other than
- 38:39Speaker 1: being in the suburbs. So that was hard. The pressure
- 38:43Speaker 1: of also just, I feel like with my parents, it
- 38:49Speaker 1: wasn't the pressure. I think it was more outside. The kids,
- 38:52Speaker 1: the bullying, the why do you do this and not that?
- 38:57Speaker 1: And why do you act a certain way? And so
- 38:59Speaker 1: I quickly had personal identity issues solely off that. But
- 39:08Speaker 1: realizing now that is sadly a very, very normal part
- 39:13Speaker 1: of being Black. There is no one way. And I
- 39:16Speaker 1: feel like I know so many people who have gone
- 39:19Speaker 1: through this. Every black girl I know who grew up
- 39:22Speaker 1: in a PWI has experienced stuff like that. And yeah,
- 39:27Speaker 1: a lot of times it would just be like, I
- 39:30Speaker 1: also grew up a little bit on the chunkier side.
- 39:32Speaker 1: So like, like beauty standards were not on my side.
- 39:35Speaker 1: Like the pressure of that, that was really, that's interesting.
- 39:38Speaker 2: That's an interesting take too.
- 39:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 39:41Speaker 2: Um, cause I also grew up in a predominantly white
- 39:45Speaker 2: area and I thought I was fat my whole life.
- 39:49Speaker 1: The way I was sized medium for most of my
- 39:51Speaker 1: life and it didn't matter because these people were so rude.
- 39:54Speaker 2: But it was real because I didn't see myself, you know,
- 39:58Speaker 2: a representation of myself at school. And so what you
- 40:00Speaker 2: saw was, you know, skinnier, you know, less curvaceous women.
- 40:03Speaker 2: And so for the longest, I did think I was fat.
- 40:09Speaker 2: And I don't know if I said it on camera,
- 40:11Speaker 2: but I used to sneak diet pills.
- 40:13Speaker 1: Oh, my God. Okay, so we're talking about it. Because that, yeah.
- 40:17Speaker 2: It's real.
- 40:18Speaker 1: That is real. I remember when Flat Tummy T came out, child.
- 40:23Speaker 2: Oh, Flat Tummy T. I remember that.
- 40:24Speaker 1: I thought I had found the cure for cancer. I said, oh.
- 40:29Speaker 1: Mind you, all these go-go BBLs, abs, sketching, all this stuff.
- 40:33Speaker 2: Flat Tummy T.
- 40:34Speaker 1: Flat Tummy T.
- 40:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 40:35Speaker 1: I said. how do I get my hands? You know,
- 40:41Speaker 1: I've done everything. I've done everything in the book to
- 40:43Speaker 1: lose weight. Like even now I'm on GLP ones. I'm
- 40:45Speaker 1: going to be so transparent solely because I've had so
- 40:49Speaker 1: much contra, not controversy, but like me and my weight,
- 40:53Speaker 1: it would always be like breakups, friendship, breakups, things that
- 40:58Speaker 1: brought me down to a spiral where I would lose
- 41:01Speaker 1: and I would gain so much and I would lose again.
- 41:02Speaker 1: And I would be like, I just need it. one
- 41:04Speaker 1: size for at least a year. Like, I can't keep
- 41:07Speaker 1: doing that. And a lot of the stuff that I
- 41:09Speaker 1: did at the time was really unhealthy. And I would
- 41:12Speaker 1: never recommend someone to lose weight any way that I
- 41:16Speaker 1: lose weight. But if I'm going to be honest, like,
- 41:18Speaker 1: that's how I did it. So if you wanted that,
- 41:21Speaker 1: I did gastric bypass. I had lost like 230 pounds. Wow, Tara. Yeah,
- 41:27Speaker 1: I'm not kidding. It was like a huge transformation. So
- 41:30Speaker 1: after the weight loss surgery... I went on the GOP
- 41:33Speaker 1: ones for a little bit and then went off them
- 41:35Speaker 1: for like a year because I was like, I feel
- 41:36Speaker 1: like I'm fine. The recent craze, I'm not going to lie,
- 41:40Speaker 1: brought me back into it solely because the culture right
- 41:44Speaker 1: now is in a weird shift. It's in a weird like,
- 41:49Speaker 1: like you have to be the most perfect you've ever
- 41:51Speaker 1: been right now, which is so weird because I don't
- 41:53Speaker 1: remember it being this in like 2016 when we were
- 41:55Speaker 1: all like Afrocentric, girl, your body is your tea, like
- 41:59Speaker 1: love yourself. And now it's like, If you ain't on
- 42:03Speaker 1: the needle, what are you doing? It's almost like you
- 42:06Speaker 1: have an easy way out. Why don't you use it?
- 42:08Speaker 1: And I'd be like, oh, stop.
- 42:10Speaker 2: Can I ask what made you decide to do the surgeries?
- 42:14Speaker 1: Yeah, so I was reaching. So there was one time
- 42:19Speaker 1: we were at Disneyland and all my weight was usually
- 42:23Speaker 1: down here and towards my knees. I had knee surgery
- 42:25Speaker 1: when I was a kid. Mm-hmm. I could not walk
- 42:28Speaker 1: in that park for more than an hour without having
- 42:30Speaker 1: to like sit down and like actually massage. Wow. And
- 42:33Speaker 1: I was like, this actually, I feel like this is
- 42:35Speaker 1: going to be a problem. I feel like I won't
- 42:36Speaker 1: be able to walk soon.
- 42:37Speaker 2: Wow.
- 42:38Speaker 1: I was about 340 pounds, I would say. And I
- 42:41Speaker 1: was like, here's what I could do. My sister, my
- 42:44Speaker 1: younger sister did it first. She's about 23, 24 now.
- 42:48Speaker 1: And I literally seen her lose so much weight so
- 42:52Speaker 1: fast after the gastric. I was like, um... I kind
- 42:57Speaker 1: of want to do this solely because I know exercising
- 43:01Speaker 1: at the time was just painful.
- 43:03Speaker 2: It's just really, really painful.
- 43:04Speaker 1: I said, if I just had a little less weight,
- 43:06Speaker 1: this would be, now I work out all the time.
- 43:09Speaker 1: Like the physical therapy part of it was really painful.
- 43:13Speaker 1: So I kind of just was like, all right, this
- 43:15Speaker 1: is the stepping stone. We do that. We won't have
- 43:18Speaker 1: to worry about this anymore. That got carried out. And
- 43:20Speaker 1: so now we move on to this. It's like a
- 43:23Speaker 1: never ending thing. I feel like with also with like
- 43:25Speaker 1: plastic surgery, I've also had lipo and like breast lift
- 43:29Speaker 1: and all that stuff. That was for the sagginess. You
- 43:31Speaker 1: lose so much weight, girl. Stomach down there. Like I,
- 43:34Speaker 1: in my head, I was like, I'm sorry, that's just
- 43:36Speaker 1: a no brainer.
- 43:37Speaker 2: It doesn't have to in a way.
- 43:40Speaker 1: And yeah, even now I like will have like body
- 43:44Speaker 1: dysmorphia problems, but it wasn't as horrible as it was before.
- 43:49Speaker 1: I catch myself now. So I'll take a break. from
- 43:52Speaker 1: any type of anything that has to do with weight.
- 43:54Speaker 1: I don't have a scale at my house. Good for you.
- 43:56Speaker 1: My sister taught me that early.
- 43:57Speaker 2: She's like, don't buy a scale.
- 43:59Speaker 1: You are going to literally lose your mind.
- 44:01Speaker 2: Yes, good advice.
- 44:03Speaker 1: The pressure of that was really kind of.
- 44:04Speaker 2: Good advice. This is a good one. What pressure.
- 44:10Speaker 3: What's a pressure you used to carry that you simply
- 44:12Speaker 3: will not carry anymore?
- 44:13Speaker 2: Ooh.
- 44:16Speaker 1: Ooh. Um....
- 44:19Speaker 2: I like that question.
- 44:20Speaker 1: Take a moment.
- 44:20Speaker 2: That's a really good question. It's a really good one.
- 44:22Speaker 1: You know what's funny? The pressure of having good natural hair.
- 44:25Speaker 1: Here's the thing. Let's dive into that.
- 44:29Speaker 2: The whole concept of good hair is so colorist.
- 44:31Speaker 1: It's so disgusting to me. I was in the natural
- 44:34Speaker 1: hair movement. I had everything. I'll take my wig off
- 44:36Speaker 1: right now. But I would not. But the thing is.
- 44:38Speaker 2: But we welcome it if you want to.
- 44:40Speaker 1: I'm a lover of all black hair. Absolutely. I've gotten
- 44:45Speaker 1: in fights with girls over this because I'm like, If
- 44:48Speaker 1: a girl wants to go get a perm, go get
- 44:49Speaker 1: a perm. You got to experience the experience. I wouldn't
- 44:53Speaker 1: recommend it anymore. But go do what you want to
- 44:55Speaker 1: do with your hair and figure it out. You're not
- 44:58Speaker 1: less than because you, I don't know.
- 45:01Speaker 2: Need some creamy crack. Yeah, because you're.
- 45:04Speaker 1: Wearing braids in the club. You're not any less attractive
- 45:07Speaker 1: or any less if you have an afro out in
- 45:09Speaker 1: the public. Like I just can't get behind that. And
- 45:12Speaker 1: so sometimes when I would have my afro out and
- 45:15Speaker 1: I was like, oh, it's not evenly picked. It's not
- 45:17Speaker 1: like it's not doing what it's supposed to do. I
- 45:18Speaker 1: got breakage, all these things. And I go, wait a minute.
- 45:21Speaker 1: I'm making this up. Like there's no type of right
- 45:23Speaker 1: way to do some things. And I love hair. As
- 45:27Speaker 1: a Leo, hairs are everything. And so finally I was like,
- 45:31Speaker 1: let the girls just be. Like let them take care
- 45:35Speaker 1: of how they want to take care of their hair.
- 45:37Speaker 1: And a lot of that was, you know, back then
- 45:39Speaker 1: they'd be like, ooh, your hair is so, you know.
- 45:41Speaker 1: I would put a lot of conditioner and they'd be like,
- 45:43Speaker 1: it's jingy, it's ooh. And I have four Cs. It
- 45:45Speaker 1: would just poop. Like if I didn't oil it down,
- 45:48Speaker 1: it would just look to me insane. And I had
- 45:51Speaker 1: to let all that go because everyone was frying their
- 45:53Speaker 1: hair when I was trying to be more like, basically
- 45:57Speaker 1: trying to be more culturally in the space.
- 46:01Speaker 2: So you're trying to fit into someone else's beauty standard.
- 46:05Speaker 1: Yeah, when I first got into Weave, that was the
- 46:07Speaker 1: best day of my life. Like, it was so fun.
- 46:11Speaker 2: We have so many options and we can do them all.
- 46:13Speaker 1: We can literally do whatever we want. We have options, absolutely.
- 46:16Speaker 2: That was a good one. Very good one. I think
- 46:20Speaker 2: the main takeaway before we go into the next category
- 46:22Speaker 2: is Love yourself. Accept yourself for who you are.
- 46:25Speaker 1: It sounds cliche, but it's so true.
- 46:27Speaker 2: But it's so true. I can't be more like.
- 46:30Speaker 1: And be honest with yourself.
- 46:31Speaker 2: And be honest with yourself. I think it's very courageous
- 46:34Speaker 2: for you to sit here and talk about the surgeries
- 46:36Speaker 2: you've had.
- 46:36Speaker 1: Yes. I talk about it.
- 46:38Speaker 2: Yes. But I think it's, and what Tamara was saying,
- 46:40Speaker 2: it's freeing to other people as well, including yourself. So
- 46:44Speaker 2: someone will listen and be like, oh, she got up
- 46:46Speaker 2: here and she talked about this and her weight and
- 46:48Speaker 2: her struggles and her hair. I also have the same struggles.
- 46:51Speaker 2: So it's humanizing your experiences, even though you are Terry Crews' daughter,
- 46:55Speaker 2: it still is highlighting the fact that you have very
- 46:59Speaker 2: human-like experiences that everybody else Experiences, which is great. I'm
- 47:04Speaker 2: so glad. It's great. Because somebody might need the surgery
- 47:08Speaker 2: and just like not be on the fence. And they
- 47:10Speaker 2: can literally hear you and be like, you know what?
- 47:12Speaker 2: I'm going to move forward with it.
- 47:13Speaker 3: That's why I wanted to get your reasoning behind doing it.
- 47:17Speaker 2: Because a lot of people are just like they might
- 47:18Speaker 2: be on the fence.
- 47:19Speaker 3: And it's really important for people to share their testimony.
- 47:22Speaker 2: I appreciate that. At least one person is going to
- 47:25Speaker 2: take something away from it. And that's all that matters.
- 47:27Speaker 1: I really hope so. Yes, they will. In any type
- 47:29Speaker 1: of way.
- 47:30Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 47:31Speaker 1: All right.
- 47:32Speaker 2: Well, we kind of, I keep flipping it. I love
- 47:34Speaker 2: how she's like, I didn't see nothing. I love it.
- 47:36Speaker 2: She said, I didn't see nothing.
- 47:38Speaker 1: That's how you play.
- 47:38Speaker 2: Let's hot take.
- 47:39Speaker 1: Hot take.
- 47:41Speaker 2: I'm actually really excited for this. Hot takes are our favorite.
- 47:46Speaker 2: So we're going to play with you. So we'll give
- 47:48Speaker 2: you some hot take statements. We have hot takes. This
- 47:50Speaker 2: is fun. And you're either going to agree, disagree, or
- 47:53Speaker 2: it's complicated. Samara and I will play.
- 47:55Speaker 1: And then we'll have.
- 47:57Speaker 2: You explain your answer to your hot take.
- 48:00Speaker 1: Okay.
- 48:01Speaker 2: Let me get our hot takes.
- 48:05Speaker 1: Hell yeah. Okay. Let me make sure.
- 48:08Speaker 2: Be long.
- 48:10Speaker 1: All right.
- 48:11Speaker 2: Let me see which one I want to do.
- 48:14Speaker 1: This is so awesome.
- 48:15Speaker 2: I'm loving this.
- 48:17Speaker 1: Okay.
- 48:17Speaker 2: I'm going to do like three. Okay.
- 48:19Speaker 1: Okay.
- 48:21Speaker 2: Children of successful people don't have an excuse to fail. Ooh.
- 48:26Speaker 1: Let me think on the wording of this.
- 48:28Speaker 2: Say it again. Children of successful people do not have
- 48:32Speaker 2: an excuse to fail. Do we agree? Disagree?
- 48:35Speaker 1: I think that's in a way I'm leaning more towards disagree.
- 48:40Speaker 1: But complicated in a sense of.
- 48:41Speaker 2: I can say it's complicated too.
- 48:42Speaker 1: In the sense of. I'm just gonna say it. These
- 48:45Speaker 1: white kids have it so easy. I'm not gonna, here's
- 48:48Speaker 1: the thing. It's not always like this. I'm not gonna
- 48:51Speaker 1: sit here and say that everybody has the same way
- 48:54Speaker 1: of going about things. It could be like you're a
- 48:57Speaker 1: music producer's daughter or a athlete's daughter or a celebrity's daughter.
- 49:02Speaker 1: There are so many ways in which you could be
- 49:05Speaker 1: led into the industry, but if you're not in that field... That,
- 49:09Speaker 1: I don't know how they could really help you. I've
- 49:12Speaker 1: seen this before. I was just on a video where
- 49:17Speaker 1: we had to guess who was the nepo baby or
- 49:19Speaker 1: not in the group. And this guy does journalism and stuff,
- 49:24Speaker 1: but his parents are in TV and acting. And they
- 49:28Speaker 1: were like, yeah, they didn't help me get the job,
- 49:30Speaker 1: but that's what they do. So I don't know if
- 49:32Speaker 1: you could call me a nepo baby in that way.
- 49:34Speaker 1: And I was like, that's so interesting. Because, yeah, they
- 49:36Speaker 1: didn't use nepotism to get where they got. But they're
- 49:39Speaker 1: successful in their field solely because people know him as
- 49:43Speaker 1: a son of this.
- 49:44Speaker 2: Interesting.
- 49:44Speaker 1: So he was like, yeah, no, I didn't get any
- 49:46Speaker 1: help in that because I didn't know anyone in that field.
- 49:49Speaker 1: This is just what I wanted to do. But he
- 49:51Speaker 1: got a leg up solely because of the status in
- 49:55Speaker 1: a way. Like they kind of, after a while, were like, oh,
- 49:58Speaker 1: we didn't know you had this going on. Let's kind
- 50:00Speaker 1: of rev you up. Interesting. Okay.
- 50:04Speaker 2: It's an interesting take.
- 50:04Speaker 1: I think that's complicated in a way.
- 50:06Speaker 2: I say it's complicated because for the longest time, I
- 50:10Speaker 2: didn't give myself permission to fail because I always felt
- 50:12Speaker 2: like I didn't have the rights or space to fail
- 50:15Speaker 2: because people knew who my father was. And so I
- 50:18Speaker 2: think it really came from myself because I'm like, If
- 50:20Speaker 2: I don't succeed in life, people are going to look
- 50:23Speaker 2: and be like, well, girl.
- 50:24Speaker 1: You had... Okay, so boom, yes.
- 50:25Speaker 2: You know what I mean? So I think that's... But
- 50:27Speaker 2: I know when I'm like reading this, children of successful
- 50:30Speaker 2: people don't have an excuse to fail. I already know
- 50:32Speaker 2: that's not true because everyone's path is different and you
- 50:35Speaker 2: don't know what's going to happen on your journey.
- 50:38Speaker 1: But personally, as.
- 50:40Speaker 2: I internalize that, it's hard for me to say that
- 50:45Speaker 2: I have an excuse to fail when I know.
- 50:47Speaker 1: Just I can.
- 50:49Speaker 2: It's just like the foundation that I had with my
- 50:51Speaker 2: family and different positions that I've been put in because
- 50:55Speaker 2: of my my dad and my family and my upbringing
- 50:58Speaker 2: and my mind. I've internalized it as I don't have
- 51:01Speaker 2: an excuse to feel when I know it's not true.
- 51:02Speaker 2: That's not true. That's so, you know, but like it's
- 51:05Speaker 2: that's why I say it's complicated. I you know what
- 51:07Speaker 2: I mean?
- 51:08Speaker 1: What what are your.
- 51:09Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 51:10Speaker 3: I think when I think of failure, like you failed
- 51:12Speaker 3: at what one thing. Like, overall failing.
- 51:16Speaker 2: What does that look like? What does that mean?
- 51:18Speaker 1: That's true.
- 51:19Speaker 2: That doesn't mean you failed in life.
- 51:21Speaker 3: You're absolutely right. I think the failure part is how
- 51:26Speaker 3: I look at failure. Because failing is forward to me.
- 51:29Speaker 2: That's great. Like, failing is great because now you know
- 51:31Speaker 2: what to do the next time. So it's not necessarily.
- 51:34Speaker 3: But also, like, you can't take away somebody's human experience
- 51:37Speaker 3: just because.
- 51:39Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? I just don't, I don't
- 51:40Speaker 2: think that's, that's actually kind of crazy to do. Like
- 51:43Speaker 2: for any person, for any human being.
- 51:45Speaker 1: When you think of failure, the point of failure is
- 51:48Speaker 1: to try again. It's to learn, yeah.
- 51:50Speaker 2: So that does make sense.
- 51:51Speaker 1: Yeah. And. when you're putting it by society's standards, let's
- 51:54Speaker 1: say like my Twitter standards, everybody a failure, everybody gonna.
- 51:57Speaker 2: Be somebody who's a loser.
- 51:58Speaker 1: You are a loser. I mean, you can't do anything.
- 52:01Speaker 2: You can't do nothing to appease people.
- 52:03Speaker 1: You can't do anything. And then there's other people like,
- 52:06Speaker 1: on Instagram, they're so happy-go-lucky for some reason. I don't
- 52:08Speaker 1: know what it is about them. Like, it's such a
- 52:10Speaker 1: different app.
- 52:11Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 52:11Speaker 1: They'll be like, oh, we can't wait to see what
- 52:13Speaker 1: you got going on. Or on TikTok, they're like, we
- 52:16Speaker 1: just love hearing you speak. I'm like, that's what I
- 52:18Speaker 1: had to do with speak?
- 52:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 52:20Speaker 1: Oh, I got this. Like, I, yeah, no. Sharing achievements
- 52:23Speaker 1: with certain types of people will make you feel like
- 52:25Speaker 1: a failure. But then in other ways, because with me,
- 52:27Speaker 1: a lot of times I was like, I don't know
- 52:29Speaker 1: if I even want to run a business or do
- 52:31Speaker 1: anything like that. But then when I started thinking about it,
- 52:33Speaker 1: I was like, that is something I would do. Like
- 52:36Speaker 1: basically with like my business with this, what's the tea?
- 52:40Speaker 1: I started off just being like, let me just show
- 52:42Speaker 1: a little bit of my life. I feel like a
- 52:44Speaker 1: lot of people don't even know what I do. We
- 52:47Speaker 1: used to have a reality show, The Family Cruise, and
- 52:49Speaker 1: it's been years. It's been years since people saw it.
- 52:53Speaker 2: I used to love that show.
- 52:53Speaker 1: So they would be like, oh, my God, we haven't
- 52:55Speaker 1: seen y'all in so long. And I'd be like, yeah,
- 52:57Speaker 1: here we go.
- 52:58Speaker 2: That's crazy that I forgot about that.
- 53:00Speaker 1: And so, yeah, I turned that into like, yeah, I've
- 53:03Speaker 1: been here in L.A. for so long. I show you.
- 53:06Speaker 1: I club promoted.
- 53:08Speaker 2: I do this.
- 53:08Speaker 1: I used to be a host. So all these things now, like,
- 53:11Speaker 1: you can catch up with me on. So in that way,
- 53:14Speaker 1: I brought the failure of whatever I wanted to be
- 53:18Speaker 1: in the past up. I've been like, this is what
- 53:20Speaker 1: I've been up to. Currently.
- 53:21Speaker 2: Currently.
- 53:22Speaker 3: And some of the stuff you're not even really failing at.
- 53:24Speaker 1: No, no.
- 53:25Speaker 2: It's not even actually a fail. The word fail, we
- 53:28Speaker 2: should change it to something else.
- 53:30Speaker 1: Again, it's lessons.
- 53:31Speaker 2: What have you accomplished? What have you gained from a
- 53:34Speaker 2: situation that didn't work out necessarily in your favor, but
- 53:38Speaker 2: you gained something from it? So that's the moral of
- 53:40Speaker 2: the story.
- 53:40Speaker 1: I love that. Okay.
- 53:42Speaker 2: That was a good hot take.
- 53:43Speaker 1: All right.
- 53:44Speaker 2: Let's do people are less sympathetic to your struggles when
- 53:51Speaker 2: they think you come from privilege. I agree with that.
- 53:54Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, I agree with that.
- 53:56Speaker 2: I will say most definitely yes.
- 53:57Speaker 1: And I don't want to come off stuck up either.
- 53:59Speaker 2: No, it's not.
- 54:00Speaker 1: It's not.
- 54:00Speaker 2: I totally think so. Yeah.
- 54:01Speaker 1: I totally think so. Because I even with some other
- 54:04Speaker 1: nepo babies, I'm like, dang, I already know what they're
- 54:08Speaker 1: talking to their friends about right now. Like if they
- 54:10Speaker 1: were in some sort of like, it's always like maybe
- 54:13Speaker 1: like a relationship breakup or like, like they'll be like. Oh,
- 54:19Speaker 1: don't run away.
- 54:19Speaker 2: We're going to talk about your name.
- 54:22Speaker 1: Come back here.
- 54:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 54:24Speaker 1: And the scrutiny, I can't.
- 54:27Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the toughest.
- 54:28Speaker 1: It's a lot.
- 54:29Speaker 2: That's the toughest. I say agree just even off of
- 54:33Speaker 2: my experiences with dad coaching and playing in the NBA
- 54:37Speaker 2: and fan bases. Yeah. You could be getting your leg
- 54:40Speaker 2: cut off and they'll be like, we don't care. You lost.
- 54:42Speaker 2: Your daddy lost this game last night.
- 54:45Speaker 1: You could be delivering a child.
- 54:46Speaker 2: They'll be like, I hope that child comes with a
- 54:49Speaker 2: horrible thing. They do not care because they look at
- 54:51Speaker 2: it as if your family has money. So whatever struggles
- 54:56Speaker 2: or problems that you have, it's pennies. You'll get through it.
- 54:59Speaker 2: You'll be all right because your family has money. That's true.
- 55:04Speaker 1: And it's reality.
- 55:06Speaker 2: Not for everybody, but you do have people who just
- 55:08Speaker 2: will believe that. All right, last one before we get
- 55:10Speaker 2: into another token. LA nightlife is more about being seen
- 55:17Speaker 2: than actually having fun. Okay, the expert.
- 55:20Speaker 1: The expert. That's me. Look, I came here flying too. Like,
- 55:26Speaker 1: I really have nothing to say, but just to be like, Like,
- 55:31Speaker 1: especially when it's, like, L.A. specific, there's some places where
- 55:34Speaker 1: you go where you're just like, I know I'm going
- 55:36Speaker 1: to be hit on, so I got to look cute
- 55:37Speaker 1: and nice and all these things.
- 55:38Speaker 2: I know that's right, Tara. I know. She's got to
- 55:42Speaker 2: prepare the premeditated hair.
- 55:43Speaker 1: No. I know.
- 55:44Speaker 3: I was just telling my friends.
- 55:45Speaker 1: I was like, if you want to have some fun,
- 55:48Speaker 1: you go to this place. You want to, if you
- 55:50Speaker 1: want to, like. be seen as like the life of
- 55:54Speaker 1: the party, or if you want to feel like you're
- 55:57Speaker 1: in someone's home, you go here.
- 55:59Speaker 2: I didn't know there's layers or levels to this. There
- 56:01Speaker 2: are layers.
- 56:02Speaker 1: I just went to this one little rinky-dink bar recently.
- 56:04Speaker 1: Not rinky-dink. It is kind of popular, but it's more
- 56:08Speaker 1: like kind of like rock and roll or whatever. And
- 56:10Speaker 1: I was like, okay, let me just go with my
- 56:12Speaker 1: friend and see what she's on. Girl, the way not
- 56:15Speaker 1: one person looked at me, I said, oh, I don't
- 56:16Speaker 1: like this. I don't like this feeling. It was one
- 56:21Speaker 1: of those really white bars. And I was like, I
- 56:24Speaker 1: don't know if I could ever do that again. You
- 56:26Speaker 1: know why? And I'm having fun. I'm having so much fun.
- 56:33Speaker 1: There is a TikTok like this.
- 56:34Speaker 2: Wait, are you equating fun to being hit on? No,
- 56:37Speaker 2: a little bit.
- 56:37Speaker 1: She said that.
- 56:38Speaker 2: And I'm sorry, I'm going to be so off.
- 56:40Speaker 1: No, but I love it though. Because if you have
- 56:42Speaker 1: at least one compliment throughout.
- 56:44Speaker 2: The night, you'll be like, waiter, another round for the girl.
- 56:47Speaker 2: I know, period. I know that's right. I'm sorry.
- 56:49Speaker 1: Like, even if you don't get in on the whole night,
- 56:51Speaker 1: but you just feel the vibe is really good, amazing.
- 56:53Speaker 2: Okay, good.
- 56:54Speaker 1: But even at that bar, the vibe was kind of whatever.
- 56:55Speaker 2: I was like, okay, this is cool. Y'all won't be
- 56:57Speaker 2: seeing me again.
- 56:58Speaker 1: Let's get our cosmos in. Let's enjoy the night. We'll
- 57:02Speaker 1: see the band, whatever. And yeah, I do equate having
- 57:05Speaker 1: fun to like a little bit of just a little
- 57:09Speaker 1: rendezvous-ness in a sense.
- 57:10Speaker 2: We love rendezvous-ness.
- 57:11Speaker 1: It doesn't mean like, yeah, it doesn't mean like go
- 57:13Speaker 1: home with a guy or anything. Yeah, yeah, no, for sure.
- 57:14Speaker 1: It just is like, I like a little attention. I'm
- 57:16Speaker 1: a Leo. I love attention.
- 57:17Speaker 2: I was going to say, there's nothing wrong with getting
- 57:19Speaker 2: some attention, with being.
- 57:21Speaker 1: You know.
- 57:22Speaker 2: Just go to the gas station.
- 57:23Speaker 1: I was going to say, you can really go anywhere.
- 57:26Speaker 2: If you really want, you know, me. You want me killed.
- 57:29Speaker 2: I told my husband, I said, I get more compliments
- 57:32Speaker 2: from the men at the gas station than I do you.
- 57:34Speaker 2: And you can look any kind of way just to
- 57:37Speaker 2: go there. Excuse me. Excuse me. Excuse me. Look.
- 57:40Speaker 1: No. Can I plug your gas?
- 57:42Speaker 2: Really? Miss Lady.
- 57:45Speaker 1: I use that to my advantage. So even if, well,
- 57:47Speaker 1: I wouldn't recommend doing this, but it's like, even the
- 57:49Speaker 1: guys that give me the creeps, I'll be like, pay
- 57:51Speaker 1: for my drink. Like, I'll be mean. Like, it sounds mean,
- 57:54Speaker 1: but I'm like, you clearly don't understand my boundaries, so
- 57:57Speaker 1: I'm not going to understand yours. Like, I'm not going to, like,
- 57:59Speaker 1: entertain this as a regular conversation because you clearly are
- 58:02Speaker 1: just being crazy. Oh, my God.
- 58:03Speaker 2: That's hilarious. Those are good.
- 58:04Speaker 1: That's a whole other conversation. Really, really good. Those are good.
- 58:07Speaker 2: That was fun. All right, so let's pull another one.
- 58:11Speaker 2: We got a couple more.
- 58:12Speaker 1: Yes, please.
- 58:13Speaker 2: Gosh, our time has gone so fast. We have three.
- 58:15Speaker 1: Truth or dare? Yes. Okay, we're going to do.
- 58:18Speaker 2: One for the sake of time. Evan is over there
- 58:20Speaker 2: looking at me and I'm like, Evan, anyway, anyway.
- 58:23Speaker 1: No, he's back there drinking machete.
- 58:25Speaker 2: He's just like, uh. Evan's like, I have showed this screen. Okay,
- 58:30Speaker 2: truth or dare? You can choose. Truth. I'll do truth.
- 58:35Speaker 1: I don't know what kind of dare we would do here.
- 58:37Speaker 2: No, we did dare last time.
- 58:39Speaker 1: We did dare last time.
- 58:40Speaker 2: Okay, have you ever used the Terry Crews name to
- 58:42Speaker 2: get in somewhere? Yes, girl.
- 58:44Speaker 1: Period. Very quick story. Tried to go into this hookah place.
- 58:48Speaker 1: I guess there was a celebrity there. It was like
- 58:50Speaker 1: a private party. I said, oh, well, Terry Crews is inside.
- 58:54Speaker 1: That's my dad. Like, da, da, da. They were like.
- 58:56Speaker 1: We know Terry Crews ain't in no hookah spot. He
- 58:58Speaker 1: would never be. He would never be. And I was like, look,
- 59:01Speaker 1: and I showed my Instagram. This is the one and
- 59:03Speaker 1: only time I've ever done that. So he was like, dang,
- 59:05Speaker 1: you really dead ass right now? That's crazy. And I
- 59:08Speaker 1: was like, yeah, he's inside. He told me to meet
- 59:10Speaker 1: him in there. And he was like, OK. He literally
- 59:13Speaker 1: didn't even check my purse. I went inside. I said, idiots.
- 59:18Speaker 2: Good for you. You're like, no, you know Terry Crews.
- 59:20Speaker 1: Is not anywhere. Good for you. As you should.
- 59:23Speaker 2: You earned that.
- 59:25Speaker 1: I did. I've never done that once before then.
- 59:28Speaker 2: I don't see it as a problem. He's your dad.
- 59:31Speaker 2: I mean, why not?
- 59:32Speaker 1: He's your dad. Me and my mom use him all
- 59:33Speaker 1: the time. As you should. For, like, restaurant reservations. We'll
- 59:36Speaker 1: just put his name. Yeah.
- 59:37Speaker 2: Oh, and I'm sure they make sure. They'll be like,
- 59:40Speaker 2: is he around the corner?
- 59:42Speaker 1: He's parking.
- 59:44Speaker 2: He's parking.
- 59:45Speaker 1: Forever.
- 59:46Speaker 2: Kiss me.
- 59:46Speaker 1: We'll just walk on through. We do.
- 59:51Speaker 2: Sparkling water, please. Sparkling water. Sparkling water. So funny.
- 59:57Speaker 1: She'll do a dare.
- 59:58Speaker 2: Let's give her one dare. Let's do a dare. Oh, no.
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: I say we call him.
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: Let's call him. Let's call him. Or she can do
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: his impression. Oh, the best Terry Crews dramatic facial expression?
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: Oh, I can do that one.
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: Let's do that one. Let's do that one. Give us
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: your best impression.
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: I'll be like, hey, how you doing? Oh, so lovely
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: to see you. Oh, no. If he's in front of company...
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: He's the Terry Crews you would probably know about. But
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: at home, he's like, oh, hi, Terry. How are you? Oh,
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: it's so nice. He's like Kermit the Frog, like in
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: the way of like, he's like, oh, hi there. Oh,
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: that's so cute. And he's the one that will be
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: eating your food from the fridge that you saved for
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: the night before. Oh, no.
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: Mr.
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: Crews? I caught him one time. He said, oh.
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: I could see him making that facial expression. If he
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: wasn't so big, I would fight him.
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: He was eating my chips and guac from Chipotle.
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: Oh, my gosh.
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: I said, the one thing, the one thing I told
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: you not to do. And he's going, and he still
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: continues slowly.
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: Like, what you.
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: Going to do about it? And I said.
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: It's like, you can't fight me.
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: Give me the food.
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: He goes, I don't know about that. I don't know.
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: I said, you owe me new Chippin' Guac. You have
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: the money. Give me the Chippin' Guac money. The $ 6
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: that I was to get the Chippin' Guac.
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: That's hilarious.
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: So you guys had an Instagram where you took even
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: for the bag.
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: You're like, oh, how much is the bag?
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: That was hilarious.
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: $ 1, 300.
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: $ 1, 300. And that one we also did in Martha's Vineyard.
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: And that was my idea, too. All those TikToks are
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: usually me or Winnie, my little sister's idea, because we're like,
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: First of all, these are your sounds. Your actual sounds,
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: like we did the White Chicks one, we did all
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: those things. They're just currently going viral and he's over
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: here like, what are you gonna do? I'm like, use
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: your brain. We gotta do something. And I'll be in
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: his face like, what do you think? He'll be like.
- 1:01:51Speaker 2: I'm like, I don't care.
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: I love how.
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: Daughters can get their dads in order. Just get it together.
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: I love that. It's like, bro, you're hot right now.
- 1:02:00Speaker 2: Get it together. No, we're going to do it after
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: we wrap. All right, we got two more.
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: Okay, perfect. I'll just go.
- 1:02:05Speaker 2: We definitely have to do it after we wrap.
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: Hot takes again?
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: No, we didn't pull it last time then.
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: No, we, okay. We already did. And career.
- 1:02:12Speaker 2: Career, okay. So this is a time where we're going
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: to get to know what you're doing, how you got
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: into LA nightlife, what's the tea? So I guess my
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: first question is, how did you get into the LA
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: nightlife experience?
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: Yeah, my friend was a bottle girl at this one
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: club called The Reserve in downtown LA, if you've ever been.
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: She was like, girl, we need a promoter. I said,
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: why are you looking at me? I'm like, what does
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: that mean? She's like, oh, you sell tables, kind of
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: like we do, you just don't have to wear the outfits.
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: I said, that's actually a great idea. I'll think about it.
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: Got interviewed, got hired on the spot. And I was
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: kind of bad at it at first. I didn't really
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: know how to market this club. They would just be like,
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: post a new story. So I would just post flyers
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: and flyers. Finally, I learned a way of getting people.
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: I'll be like, I'm going to be there. I'm going
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: to make it a hosting. I'll be like, guys who've,
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: most times it'll be like, men who are thirsty will
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: be like, oh, I'll buy a bottle. If you're there
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: and bring your friends, like I'll buy a bottle. I said, bet.
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: So now I'm almost like my time is now basically
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: with them. And I'll be like, oh yeah, like I'll
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: pour you champagne, whatever. Basically like bottle go from outside
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: the club in a sense. Like I'm just there to
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: look pretty and y'all have your fun. And then I leave.
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: Like I don't. So I did that for years. And
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: then finally this guy asked me to do all these
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: other clubs and He was just a sleazeball. And I
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: just remember doing this for so long. He wouldn't pay
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: me on time or at all. And then he would
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: try to pay me in dinners and stuff. I said,
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: I'm not trying to go on dates with you. I'm
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: not trying to do any of that. Slowly but surely
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: it was taking a toll on my body. You can't
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: drink every day. Like you can't do that. So I
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: quit and I was like, I'm not doing this again.
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: This is just like detrimental to my health and my body. Finally,
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: after surgery, like, after my lipo and stuff, they were like, Tara,
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: would you like to, like, host a couple things? And
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: these were, like, girl DJs and, like, really fun girls
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: that I already knew from the town.
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: I was like, yeah, why not?
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: Like, let's do a bunch of stuff. Finally kind of
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: got back into it, and I started hosting, and they
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: actually paid me what I was worth. Oh, wow. Charge
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: the girls, LA girls. They know what they're doing. That
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: was basically how I kind of got back into What's
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: the Tea? Because I was like, I'm already going out
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: on a weekend. Why don't I just film... the most poppin'
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: places in LA on the weekend. And that's kind of
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: how it started. And I started doing that and I
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: was like, dad, do you want to be in some
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: funny stuff? And it turned into that. It turned into
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: me traveling with him. It turned into the whole family. Like,
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: I'll show my store that I work at. Like, all
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: these things. It's not just really one thing anymore. It's
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: very much like, I'm going to do interviews with people soon. So,
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: and they'll turn into events of my own. Like, my
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: own actual What's the T branded events. Okay. So, you
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: guys will be the first to be in the podcast. Yeah!
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: I'm so excited.
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: I want you to get an exclusive.
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: Love it.
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: Okay. Is there ever, did you have a moment before
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: you started What's the Tea where you're like, oh, I
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: wish I would have documented or like filmed this experience
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: that you had at a club or, I guess, or
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: I guess the other question is, what's the craziest experience
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: that you've had at the club or your night out?
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: You know what it is? It's more of like awareness
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: for women. Like for that, it's more like, They need
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: to fire that security guard because he's too handily with people.
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: Or it's like, clearly that girl is too drunk. They
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: need to get her out of here. I'm almost doing
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: reconnaissance for the club. I'm like, y'all are not paying attention, really.
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: I feel like I'm always on alert for stuff. That's
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: my ADD. but it's more of like, if I film this,
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: y'all would be out of here. Like y'all are cool.
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: Y'all are this close. Wow. I know, like I would
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: know how to run something better in my head. I'm like,
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: I could do that. Y'all don't know how to do anything.
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: These security guards don't do anything, but be big and
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: bad and don't do nothing. It's a lot of that.
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: It's more of like, I almost want to call this out,
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: but my platform, my platform is so big. I don't
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: want to abuse that. So I'm like, I do word
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: of mouth. I'll be like, don't go here. Don't do that.
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: Don't interact with that person. Interesting. Like, I could really
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: shut stuff down, but I don't.
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: That's so fascinating, though.
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: It's really so interesting.
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: So, would you own a club? Like, is that something
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: you would actually do?
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: That was my first... kind of business proposal was like
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: owning one. But then I was like, that is so expensive.
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: And most of them fail and it's LA. Our nightlife
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: can be. Kind of like hot and cold, I guess.
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: So now it's like, if you tell people you want
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: to host an event at their space, it is easier.
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: You get kind of like half from the bar, half
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: from the food. And kind of make it work. And
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: you just build your way up until you get your
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: own space. I feel like that's just easier in a way.
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: I'm a first-time business owner. I wouldn't know.
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: Good for you, sis. Thank you, thank you.
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: It's LLC. What's the T is yes in LLC. Oh,
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: that's awesome.
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: So where do you see yourself? What's the T, let's say,
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: a year, five years from now? What are you hoping
- 1:07:02Speaker 2: this becomes for you and your brand?
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: I want it to be coastal. I want a what's
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: the T New York? What's the T Miami? What's the T...
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: Washington state, like stuff like that. And then eventually be
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: able to kind of like a, almost like an everyday people,
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: like stuff like that. Like you want, I want to
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: be able to be like, y'all come down here, pay
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: the $ 20 ticket. Like food will be there. Everything, everything
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: will be taken care of. I just want that camaraderie
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: for sure. And also, yeah.
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: I love the concept.
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: Doing the interview. Like, what you're doing now. I'm very inspired.
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: I already told you this before. Oh, thank you. I'm very,
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: very inspired. You guys are like incredible hosts.
- 1:07:38Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: Seriously. I'm so honored to be here. I'm happily spending
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: this day with you guys.
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: Seriously.
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: Thank you. Thank you.
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: It means a lot. It really does.
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: Of course.
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: It means a lot. Because, you know, you... You're someone who,
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: it seems like you naturally like people to be together
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: and have a good time. So when I'm thinking about
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: what's the tea and just who you are in the
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: nightlife space, I'm like, that's so... It's fitting for Tara because...
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: She just likes people to have a good time and
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: come together. And be happy.
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: And be happy. Yeah.
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: And so it makes sense. And it's very fitting for you.
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: And I'm excited to see where What's the Tea takes you.
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: And where this is going to go. Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: I'm so excited.
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm so excited to see where this is going
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: to go. Yeah, no, it's awesome. Thank you. It's so awesome.
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: You have a beautiful spirit. And also, I see a
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: Born to the Game What's the Tea collab. That's what
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: I'm saying. I mean, we love a collab. That's what
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: I'm saying.
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: We love a collab.
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: Yeah, you have such beautiful energy. And don't change it
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: for anyone, Tara. Please don't. You're fabulous. Do you interview?
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: Are you into that?
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: I bought the Digimikes, so it will be happening soon.
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: I got mine too. We have to collab.
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: You're phenomenal. You are phenomenal. Let me make sure.
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: Thank you, ladies.
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: So I guess... Your legacy? I think, yeah, I'm trying
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: to make sure that we... got, well, what's something you've
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: accomplished in nightlife that you're really proud of, but people
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: outside the world probably don't know about? That's a good one.
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: Hmm. Oh, I always, this sounds so mundane. There are
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: girls in the bathroom, like waitresses in the bathroom that
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: help you. They'll give you deodorant. They'll deodorant. I make
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: sure everyone around me tips those women.
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: Oh, good for you.
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: In my head, it's also like they're in there for
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: hours smelling y'all's doo-doo, making sure y'all fresh and everything.
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: Like the least you could do is like $ 1, $ 2,
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: $ 3 something. I always make sure people are like, hey,
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: you got any cash? I just want to give this girl.
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: Or like if I have cash, I'll make up for it.
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: And it's hard to like. In this space specifically, it
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: could be so seedy and so rude. A lot of
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: people are just so rude. I feel like with that,
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: just a little kindness throughout the day. Do your good deed.
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: Something that could help another woman out in any way.
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: So before we get into legacy, I want to ask you,
- 1:10:02Speaker 2: for someone who's found their passion and is trying to
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: build a real career and ascend in their industry, what's
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: the best advice you would give them?
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: Hmm. have your money in order don't start anything that
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: you cannot literally afford to pay out right now so
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: I did I got some help from my dad this
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: was like a birthday present so it was like he
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: put in for this business fund specifically and so I
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: haven't even I've rarely touched that money because I'm still
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: working on the logistics I don't want there to be
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: no type of any way we have to Pay for
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: something that's not necessary. Like, we are starting the smallest.
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: Don't start too big.
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: That's a great piece of advice.
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: Yeah, like, you really have to start from the bottom.
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: Great advice.
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: Like, even me in my head, I'm like, ah, but
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: I want it to be that. I'm going, yo. Simple, simple, simple, simple.
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: Be in your room with the digi mics. Love it.
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: With the girl. Love it. With anyone. Do your thing.
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: Post it. Then. People will want to invest in you too.
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: You don't have to use all your money on just
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: one thing. Like be smart about the finances first. Great advice.
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: Great advice.
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: Yeah, that was great advice. Great advice.
- 1:11:17Speaker 2: Let's pull your last token.
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: And then the question is going to be about legacy.
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: And then we'll wrap.
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: Okay. Legacy period.
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: There we go. Oh my gosh. Yes.
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: No, amazing.
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: In true Born to the Game fashion, we like to
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: end with asking you, what legacy do you want to
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: be remembered for? What legacy are you creating that you
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: would want to create?
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: I feel like my dad's legacy was also what I eventually...
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: What I'm doing and also just want to continue to
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: do is just make people smile and make sure that
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: my warmth is actually genuine. I don't ever want to
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: make people feel like I'm fake with them or... doing
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: anything just for my own benefit. I really do want
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: to be able to entertain as well as get it right.
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: A lot of people can do a lot of things,
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: but then it's messy everywhere else. I want to fine-tune
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: everything to where it just flows perfectly. Basically, my legacy
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: that I would love to leave for my future kids,
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: like he did for me, is to be able to
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: have businesses or careers that really fulfilled their passions. So
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: what he did for me, I would love to do
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: for other people. Beautiful. That would be amazing.
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: About passing the torch.
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: Yes. Literally passing the torch legacy and for them to
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: be like, wow, Tara did all that amazing stuff. I
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: know I can do that. And she had less to
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: work with.
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: I love it.
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: I love it.
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: It's such a selfless legacy. Yes, it is.
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: Appreciate it.
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: And you are on your way.
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: Amen.
- 1:12:54Speaker 2: You're doing it. Amen. You're doing it, girl.
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: We're all moving on up. I'm very, very happy.
- 1:12:58Speaker 2: Moved on up.
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: Wisp the tea.
- 1:12:58Speaker 2: Born to the game.
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: Period.
- 1:13:00Speaker 2: It's all happening.
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: Well, before we let you go, there's one last tradition
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: here at Born to the Game.
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: Every guest who sits at this table leaves behind one
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: question for the person who comes next without knowing who
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: that person will be. Okay. So, before you leave yours,
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: you will have to answer the question that our previous
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: guest left you.
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: And then you will have an opportunity to leave a
- 1:13:26Speaker 2: question for our next guest.
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: Amazing.
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: Isn't that fun?
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: Oh, my God.
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: And the fun part is you don't know who's sitting next. Right.
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: Of course.
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: Of course.
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: Right there.
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: Wait. This is so cool.
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: If you could drop everything right now, no consequences whatsoever.
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: Who would you choose to be? Where would you go? Oh, okay.
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: That's the first part. And then what's one thing you
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: would do that you've always wanted to do? Wow. I
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: have thought about this. If I could drop everything now,
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: no consequences, this is going to sound embarrassing. I would
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: be like a Vegas style mermaid.
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: This is so funny. I grew up obsessed with Ariel
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: and like mermaids and like performing and stuff like that.
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: So like in my musical theater mind, I was like,
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: wouldn't it be amazing? I grew up, I bought this
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: mermaid tail off eBay. My mom could tell you this.
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: My dad could tell you this story too. I would
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: go to the YMCA. I would go to every community
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: pool ever and just swim with this tail in. And
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: every one of my friends wanted to use it. I
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: was the girl with the tail. Imagine horse girl, but tail.
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: That's kind of the vibe I was giving.
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: That's cool.
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: I would be a Vegas-style mermaid down at an aquarium
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: or something, living my life. But I can't because I
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: have asthma, so I wouldn't be able to breathe.
- 1:14:42Speaker 2: Yeah, we need you to survive.
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: And, yeah, where would I go? Terror of the Mermaid.
- 1:14:46Speaker 2: Terror of the Mermaid.
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: That's really, like, that's everything to me. I love that. Yeah,
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: where would I go? Probably, like, be in, I don't know,
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: be in, like, someone's, someone's a high-rise apartment in their
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: little pool, like, for, I don't know if you've seen
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: those where they'll have, like, parties with, like, mermaids in
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: the pool. I'm like, I would be.
- 1:15:05Speaker 3: That's such a, like, a club, like, you know, experience.
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: It is.
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: That's so embarrassing to admit. If I had, like, no shame, yeah,
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: I would do that.
- 1:15:16Speaker 2: That's cool.
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: And what's one thing you would do that you've always
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: wanted to do? I would say to probably cosmetology school. Oh, okay.
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: I can do some good hair. Like, I can do hair.
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: I can't cornrow. So I think I would go to
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: cosmetology school so I could finally learn. everything. I thought
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: about being a hair stylist at first and then I
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: was like, no, I'm just lazy a little bit.
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: I'm a little bit lazy in that area. It's not
- 1:15:40Speaker 2: an easy job. You have to really love hair.
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: You really do. I love hair more than like, my
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: friend is in cosmetology for nails right now and so
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: she's doing that. It's so good for her. I'm like,
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: if I had went to Hair school. What would I
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: be like right now?
- 1:15:56Speaker 2: Flourishing.
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: Whatever you decide to do, you will kill it. I'm sure.
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: That's amazing. So I get to write. Or I get
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: to say it.
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: I was going to say let's write. Okay.
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: Dang. Oh, this is cool.
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: Isn't that fun?
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: I'm actually.
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: Did you have a good time?
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: This could be, honestly, the most I've ever sweated and
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: the most I've ever smiled.
- 1:16:16Speaker 2: This is so awesome. We had such a good time. No,
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: we had a phenomenal time with you, Tara. That was fun.
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: You were amazing. Again, we love good energy people. And
- 1:16:26Speaker 2: so sitting here with you, my cheeks, I have to
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: massage them after because I've been smiling. I feel like
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: we were at brunch or something. Thank you to tuning
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: in to today's episode of Born to the Game. I'm
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: your host, Mariah. And I'm Tamara. And we can't wait
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: to see you next time. Thank you so much. Make
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: sure to like, follow, subscribe, share. Tell your mama. Do
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: all the things. And your cousins. Thank you.
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: We love you. Bye. Bye.
