- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes it all.
- 0:12Starts right now. Welcome back to the three O take
- 0:16presented by C Creek business episode 466.
- 0:18I'll be your host Kyle Corn. I'm here with my Co host Nate
- 0:21Reyes night. Road game Rd. game for us today.
- 0:35Yeah, this is a road Rd. This isn't like a home Rd.
- 0:38This isn't a home Home. This is Rd.
- 0:39Rd. Myrtle Beach, Cali.
- 0:45Ontario, CA. Which I didn't know, I thought
- 0:48that was just in Canada. That's not a real place,
- 0:51Ontario. You're in Ontario, CA.
- 0:53That's not a real place. I guess it's near Rancho
- 0:57Cucamonga. That's.
- 0:59What? I know that I know that we were
- 1:01there. That's where the Dodgers play
- 1:04spring training. No, that's not where the Dodgers
- 1:07play spring training. Where did the Dodgers play
- 1:08spring training? Where were we?
- 1:11Glendale, yeah. That's close.
- 1:15Somebody plays in in, would you say Ranchero Cucamonga?
- 1:19Rancho Cucamonga. So who plays there?
- 1:23Who? Who plays spring training there?
- 1:24I don't think anybody plays here.
- 1:27Yeah, they do in California. Hold on.
- 1:29We got to figure that out. You're right.
- 1:31What am I talking about this? Is an embarrassing start.
- 1:37I forgot. I thought you were in.
- 1:40I've, I literally said you're in California, but in my mind
- 1:44you're still in Arizona, but just elsewhere in Arizona.
- 1:46So I'm like, we were there, but clearly we're not in California.
- 1:51So there's. There's probably a minor league
- 1:54team here, right? Maybe that's what I'm thinking
- 1:56of. There's some form of baseball,
- 1:58whether it's professional, Little League, college, there's
- 2:03there's a level of baseball that I'm sure has played there.
- 2:06But no, I do apologize, little brain the.
- 2:08Rancho Cucamonga quakes. That's what it is.
- 2:13And you know who? They're the minor league
- 2:14affiliate for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Which is that C again?
- 2:22I know ball catch. Some single A baseball this
- 2:24week? Probably not.
- 2:31I doubt it. I doubt you're going to make
- 2:32your way over there. No, do apologize.
- 2:34As I was saying, a little brain dead though, because I have I've
- 2:38fully disengaged. I've fully what's the word I've
- 2:44I've just essentially cut ties with the 2024 Red Sox.
- 2:47I said last episode playing three-game set against the White
- 2:51Sox this weekend. I said if they lose a game, the
- 2:53question was are they dead? Are the Red Sox said.
- 2:55I said if they lose a game, a single game, I got rid.
- 2:58If you remember, I put out the video.
- 2:59I got up real close and personal with the camera.
- 3:01I said I looked at right, I looked you right in the eye.
- 3:03I said if they lose a single game, they're done.
- 3:08And what do they go out and do today?
- 3:10They, they take the first two games of the series Friday and
- 3:12Saturday, and then they drop Game 3.
- 3:18I mean, they, they milked out as much hope as they could this
- 3:21weekend for me. And then they're like, yeah, now
- 3:22we're, we're trash. So 4.
- 3:25Back in the wild card. Yeah, that explains why I was a
- 3:31little mentally, mentally slow there off the top, just not
- 3:34really being able to put two and two together because I'm I'm
- 3:38checked out of the socks. So now I'm as you can see, if
- 3:41you're watching. Given up A7 spot too, That's
- 3:43tough. We don't need to talk about it.
- 3:45We, as you can see if you're watching the video, shout out
- 3:48YouTube, shout out possible Instagram reels that come out of
- 3:50this. I got grimace behind me.
- 3:52I'm, I'm fully in on the Mets today.
- 3:54And even then I, I, I came in expecting or, or hoping or
- 3:58planning whatever, whatever verb you want to use there to talk
- 4:02about the Mets and their winning streak.
- 4:04And then what are the Mets go out and do they, they can't even
- 4:06do anything right. They go out and, and, and drop
- 4:09Sunday's finale. So you know, kind of killing the
- 4:14vibes there as well. I was, I was planning to come in
- 4:16and and give them give them some props because they've been
- 4:18playing well. They were playing 1000 winning
- 4:24percentage baseball coming into today.
- 4:27So that was going to be an easy headliner.
- 4:28And then they go out and drop, drop the finale to the red.
- 4:31So we're still going to talk about it.
- 4:33We're still going to talk about the Mets because they're hanging
- 4:37on and they're they fall into the category of not dead yet,
- 4:41which is something that we've talked about with the Tigers as
- 4:46of late. We talked about the cut.
- 4:48I think probably a week ago from today, we were talking Cubs in
- 4:52that same regard. So I mean they're they're just
- 4:56hanging around. They're kicking it around and I
- 4:59think today I want to say the Blue Jays were either up or tied
- 5:04with the Braves. And then I think the Braves
- 5:06pulled it out in extras. So keeping keeping that spread
- 5:11close as well between the Mets and the Braves.
- 5:13But what I mean, I'm just going to go ahead and ask you because
- 5:18you and I have very similar thoughts on the Mets.
- 5:20What do you, what do you feel about this little run the Mets
- 5:22have gone on? What?
- 5:23What do you what do you think this does for their hopes going
- 5:29into the middle of September? I mean, overall, like they're
- 5:35doing what they're supposed to be doing.
- 5:37Like when you look through this streak, the first win started
- 5:40with the end of the Diamondback Series, then through the White
- 5:46Sox and then through the Red Sox and then through the Reds.
- 5:50And again, like you said, drop in the last game of that Red
- 5:53Series. But like, this is what you're
- 5:54supposed to do. They're they're, this is exactly
- 5:57the position you should put yourself in if you're trying to
- 5:59work your way into the wild card spot and you've got to beat the
- 6:02teams that need to be beat. And that's what they did.
- 6:06They're doing, they're doing well.
- 6:09It's going to be a tough second-half of the of September,
- 6:12though. Like September's going to be
- 6:14rough for them. You know, it's it's Phillies.
- 6:18You got a little break with the Nationals.
- 6:20It's Phillies again, it's Braves, and then it ends with
- 6:23the Brewers. So there's no lay downs here.
- 6:26And when you're talking about, yeah, maybe the Phillies, they
- 6:31have somewhat of like a checked out series out of the two
- 6:34series, same with Blue Jays. But like, you know, the Braves
- 6:38are going to play them well and the Brewers are going to play
- 6:40them well. So currently holding that last
- 6:43or they're tied for that last spot with the brews.
- 6:50The Cubs just like don't anything the Cubs did this
- 6:54weekend against the Yankees was very like the Yankees just
- 6:59played poorly and allowed some runs given up.
- 7:06I think it's all it was. It didn't.
- 7:07The Cubs just don't really show me anything.
- 7:11I don't get any good vibes. I mean, there was the most
- 7:14energy I've seen out of that fan base was when Anthony Rizzo was
- 7:17coming up and they were giving him a standing out.
- 7:20So it is I in my mind this is really a two team race.
- 7:25It's it's the Braves and the Mets.
- 7:27But that's the way I view this. But the Mets been doing what
- 7:30they should be doing. And I can't believe I would even
- 7:35get to the point of saying this, but at this rate, at this stage
- 7:38in the game, I I almost feel like baseball deserves the Mets
- 7:43as that spot, as that wild card spot at this point.
- 7:47Because the Braves fans have told us all season long, the
- 7:54fact that we're even here is a miracle because we have no legs
- 7:58to stand on right now. We have nobody that is healthy
- 8:03that is able to contribute any sort of meaningful in in any
- 8:08sort of meaningful way right now.
- 8:09So it's like, well, if that's the product that you that you're
- 8:13hoping to send to the the postseason, it's like, well,
- 8:15what kind of quality of baseball are we going to get if that's
- 8:18the. Case I agree.
- 8:20And it's, it's not really going to get any better.
- 8:22If if anything, we still have what, 3-4 weeks left.
- 8:26It's, there's still room for injuries to take place.
- 8:30So I, I, I, I guess given that, given that we do have still a
- 8:38few weeks left, there is there is room for possibility that the
- 8:41Mets, that this Mets train runs out of steam a little bit and
- 8:45they're in a way limp into the, the postseason.
- 8:48But as we've said before, you just got to get into it.
- 8:50But going back to my original point of the two teams, I, I
- 8:55think the Mets would have potential most likely to give
- 9:00you better quality baseball at this, at this rate.
- 9:04So, and, and looking at the streak that they were that they,
- 9:09I mean, like I said, they just snapped it.
- 9:11But on on this nine game-winning streak, they were they had
- 9:14outscored their opponents 44 to 16.
- 9:17Francisco Endor did have a 16 game hitting streak that came to
- 9:21an end, but he is he's bumped his on base streak to 35.
- 9:29I want to say bumped into 36 today.
- 9:33However, the the rough news that come out of out of Mets camp
- 9:38this weekend was Jeff McNeil obviously fractured his his
- 9:41wrist on a hit by pitch on a very peculiar hit by pitch.
- 9:48I got to say. I mean, the loopiest of
- 9:50curveballs just caught caught him at the wrong place at the
- 9:54wrong time. Very, very odd reaction.
- 9:57You noted the just very Jeff McNeil fashion, but you never
- 10:02dudes are weirdo. You want to never well, you
- 10:04never want to you never want to wish I'll upon somebody.
- 10:07But it's just a strange, strange, strange things is all
- 10:13around. But he is likely out for the
- 10:17rest of the year. It is possible he makes a return
- 10:20to the lineup should they make a run into the bowels the depths
- 10:27of October. But I'm not holding my breath on
- 10:31that. So it's it's very possible,
- 10:34likely even that we've seen the last of Jeff McNeil in 2024.
- 10:38Yeah, 72 I think miles an hour is what I saw.
- 10:43It's like 72 or 74 something like that.
- 10:47Just like the perfect spot to get hit in where I do believe he
- 10:55he has like a hand guard, right? Didn't have a race card?
- 11:01That's what I'm saying. It just got him in the wrong
- 11:02place at the wrong time. He even said he was like, yeah,
- 11:04I didn't I really didn't feel anything didn't really hurt me.
- 11:07So he was like, I'm shocked that I'm I'm missing time.
- 11:10So that's just one of those freak baseball accidents.
- 11:13But All in all, I mean, you want to talk injuries with the Braves
- 11:17is certainly doesn't help the Mets case.
- 11:19But to put a bow on it, I I do think at this point the Mets
- 11:24just have a better product to offer as we approach the last
- 11:29few weeks here. So anything can happen.
- 11:33But yeah, either way, not I'm just going to go ahead and can I
- 11:37can I can I make a make a a claim here, drop a little bit of
- 11:42a hot take. Not really hot take.
- 11:45Neither team should they get in? Is it going to do anything of
- 11:48note? It's that simple.
- 11:50It's just a matter of what what kind of baseball we're going to
- 11:53be able to take away from whatever team gets in for the
- 11:56first series. Maybe 2?
- 11:58I mean, they're going to be dealing with like a very hot
- 12:03offense in the in the Diamondbacks.
- 12:06So right, I can never remember how the how the layout goes.
- 12:15Well, I mean the the. Two and three play each other.
- 12:19Yeah, but we don't know who's going to have the top seed
- 12:22anyway. So it's.
- 12:23Yeah, but I mean Padres. At this point, yeah.
- 12:26It is, for sure. I mean, there's still time.
- 12:28Padres is currently in that spot.
- 12:29But either way, you're dealing with either the Padres or the
- 12:32Diamondbacks. And yeah, I don't know.
- 12:36I don't know, man. I just, I don't have a ton of
- 12:39faith in it. I don't have a ton of faith in
- 12:45the Mets pitching offensively. It seems like they kind of just
- 12:51make things happen and squeak stuff out, but I don't I Yeah.
- 12:58And then like what happens when the Braves, you know, you throw
- 13:01Chris Sale and then it's just like, then what?
- 13:04So neither of these teams, I think you're going to make a
- 13:08huge dent. And it is what it is.
- 13:11You know, it's just how it goes. But this is this is like the
- 13:15reality of Manfred postseason baseball.
- 13:19You're going to have teams that they're going to earn a spot and
- 13:27I don't know, maybe, maybe they maybe they get hot.
- 13:29You never know. No stops.
- 13:30Getting hot. It's just like this is a.
- 13:32Reality of this is a reality of the the expanded postseason
- 13:35baseball and this is also reality of the NL East in in
- 13:382024 as we've seen it play out. Yeah.
- 13:41Let's switch gears here, though. Let's talk about Chapman.
- 13:46Weird timing, huh? That was very weird right after
- 13:50the last. Yeah, it was like Wednesday or
- 13:53Thursday, I think. So it was after we recorded
- 13:56last, like you said, but 60 or $151 million contract extension
- 14:00to stick with the Giants. I got to say, I did see one
- 14:03headline. I don't know if you saw it, but
- 14:06it was something to the effect of like top names are now
- 14:14looking to play with the Giants now that Chapman is returning to
- 14:18San Francisco. And I'm like, pump the brakes of
- 14:23the extensions we've seen in the last handful of years.
- 14:26I don't think I've seen a headline with that that that
- 14:30lays that out with any of these guys.
- 14:33But all of a sudden, Matt Chapman puts pen to paper and
- 14:36it's like, hold on, I've got to make my way to San Francisco in
- 14:412025. Nobody said that.
- 14:44Yeah. Who's who's who's feeding this
- 14:47lie to the media? Who's the is this?
- 14:49Is this a Boris thing? Nobody's saying that Feel.
- 14:57Like it's been somewhat forgettable, right?
- 15:01What this year for Chapman? Yeah.
- 15:03He's hitting 249. Well, entering Sunday, he's
- 15:05hitting two 4922 jacks, 69 ribbies and an OPS of 778, which
- 15:12is 47th in the league, by the way.
- 15:17I don't know of anybody that's dropping their bags or rather
- 15:21picking up their bags or should I say planning to pick up their
- 15:25bags and leaving for San Francisco to join Matt Chapman.
- 15:29I just, I just don't see it. I mean, good on him.
- 15:38I mean, good on him though. He, I mean, he bet on himself.
- 15:41He went out and got a contract that he was seeking.
- 15:45I don't what was he seeking in the that's.
- 15:48What I was trying to find actually, because he said it was
- 15:51six years one. 51 is so he like as I was saying, he bet on
- 15:56himself. He went out and got a fat
- 15:58contract. I still don't think it it
- 16:02matches or is even anywhere close to what he was seeking in
- 16:05the offseason, but you know, good on him.
- 16:07He went out there. He, like I said, bet on himself,
- 16:11got his bag, but I don't it it we're we're looking at the same
- 16:15situation with giants where it's like, what are we doing like?
- 16:22Yeah, he's 31. I I think defensive metrics have
- 16:27actually started to go down as well.
- 16:31It's it's strange. The Giants again, dude, like I'm
- 16:36trying not to sound so negative this episode, but the Giants,
- 16:42they just feel like that, Like there's money burning a hole in
- 16:45their pocket and they just willing to throw it at anybody
- 16:52and in like an aimless weird kind of way too.
- 16:57Like don't get me wrong, I understand.
- 17:00Chapman defense. But like, I'm not, I don't know,
- 17:03like you said, if I'm willing to part ways with $151 million just
- 17:07to keep it around. Yeah, that comes up to like
- 17:0925,000,000 change per year, which nowadays is like semi
- 17:14affordable. That's not that bad.
- 17:18But it's like, what are we, what are you expecting at that point
- 17:23out of a 353637 year old third baseman?
- 17:29Where like offensively the numbers are, I'm not going to
- 17:37say like middle of the road, but like, if you're going to call it
- 17:40like, I would say middle of the road to like bottom half of your
- 17:49middle of the line up guys that you're, you know, seeking that
- 17:52most teams are going to be seeking.
- 17:55Like he's, he's not anything super special.
- 17:59And you can even see that like, like a Nolan Arenado lately in,
- 18:05in Saint Louis, like you're you're going to see defensive
- 18:09metrics go down a little bit. And then you're like, are we
- 18:12gonna get those those same offensive numbers to justify
- 18:16this dollar amount? And so far in Saint Louis, like
- 18:20I bet a lot of Cardinals fans are like, no, we're not feeling
- 18:22great about this. Well, I mean, Nolan is having, I
- 18:26mean, he's having like a a pretty down year.
- 18:31I don't I don't think the regression was supposed to hit
- 18:36that hard yeah, I think he bounces back next year to to
- 18:39maybe level that out level that or get to a point of regression
- 18:43that made more sense this year I feel like was just a little bit
- 18:46I'm. Still, I'm still taking Nolan
- 18:48over Matt Chapman like I was in their prime, was taking.
- 18:51Yeah, no for. Sure, and everyone hated on
- 18:53that, but I just I don't it's again like if they have this
- 19:00amount of money and it just it, it seems like it's like the girl
- 19:06in high school and no one wants to date.
- 19:08It's just like she's just looking for a relationship and
- 19:12no one's down. And she's she's probably a
- 19:16pretty good cook. She's probably pretty awesome,
- 19:20but no one is down. And it's just like the amount of
- 19:24rejection that the Giants get over and over and over.
- 19:29And it's just like, I hate to call Matt Chapman like scraps,
- 19:36but he kind of is. When you're talking about like
- 19:39the names they've tried to go after and failed at, he's kind
- 19:44of the scraps. Well, I mean, yeah, with with
- 19:47every year that passes that I guess that would be be more of
- 19:50an accurate statement because like we said this, he's going to
- 19:53be 37 when this deal's over. So like what I mean, does he
- 19:57make it to the end of that contract with the Giants?
- 20:00Probably not, but. I don't know.
- 20:04I don't know, it just doesn't it doesn't excite me.
- 20:07Like I said, I love me some Matt Chapman defense, but it it's.
- 20:11It's just it was strangely timed too, because like, I'm going to
- 20:15go ahead and assume Blake Snell's kind of ease out.
- 20:17Like I think he's going to opt out and hit the market again.
- 20:20So like, if you're trying to throw your your hat in the ring
- 20:23again for him, it seemed like weird timing to just commit $25
- 20:30million a year of your salary cap to to a name like that.
- 20:35When there's possibilities out there in the offseason, there's
- 20:38other names out there that you can go hunt down.
- 20:43I don't hate what they did this year.
- 20:44It's just strange timing and overpay.
- 20:52That's my summary. Speaking of strange, the whole
- 20:55Kyle Tucker thing. Where thought he had like a a
- 21:01contusion on his shin. Turned out to be like a small
- 21:03fracture. Nobody really knew but he's
- 21:07back. How did it happen or when did it
- 21:11happen? How does like how does some like
- 21:13how do you not how do you First of all, contusion to me is like
- 21:18the biggest. Don't say it's.
- 21:24Just the strange description of an injury in sports because it
- 21:30feels like it's so vague and unspecified.
- 21:35No, a contusion to me is like that Winnie the Pooh meme where
- 21:40he's sitting in the chair and he is like the different levels of
- 21:44Winnie the Pooh and the the top one is just hit like basic
- 21:47Winnie the Pooh. And then the bottom 1 is like
- 21:49fancy with a monocle Winnie the Pooh.
- 21:52It's like the top, the top level, the top tier to that
- 21:55meme. Just regular Winnie the Pooh,
- 21:57you've got bruise and then fancy Winnie the Pooh, you've got
- 22:02contusion. It's like what?
- 22:04Just say he got like, he just got beat up a little bit like.
- 22:08Yeah. I don't know but.
- 22:10She's got a little Raspberry. But it turns out, turns out it
- 22:13was a small fracture. But he is back.
- 22:15He made his return Friday for the series with the D backs.
- 22:20This is obviously a huge a huge get.
- 22:25And when I say get, they obviously didn't have to do
- 22:27anything to acquire him and just had to wait it out.
- 22:29I think it was over what, three months they've been out.
- 22:35They've been out without Tucker and it just sucks too because.
- 22:40Let's remind everybody was like in the MVP conversation.
- 22:43I was, yeah, just about to say, yeah, he was at the time of of
- 22:47that injury being put on the shelf.
- 22:49He was he was in that conversation.
- 22:54So yeah, this will be huge for a team that we say it every time
- 22:58this this return to might was inevitable.
- 23:02And the fact that you're getting what was an early candidate for
- 23:07the 2024 ALMVP at this, you're getting him back in, in the
- 23:12month of September to give him enough time to get ramped up for
- 23:15October, that's a dangerous addition for the Astros.
- 23:18So I mean, good luck to the rest of the Ali guess at this point.
- 23:24Yeah. Do we all right, serious
- 23:29question. Who?
- 23:30I mean, let's, let's think about this.
- 23:31Who? Who are we legitimately giving
- 23:37respect to in terms of their chances against the Astros in
- 23:45securing the Pennant? Cleveland, that's like the only
- 23:54one that I feel I feel more confident in Cleveland than I do
- 23:58the Yankees, the Orioles. I think the Royals can be
- 24:03somewhat talked about there, but like overall, like, I don't
- 24:10know, dude, like this is coming from who Like I, I can see
- 24:15through the BS and, and I can watch that team every day and,
- 24:18and point out all the flaws that they have.
- 24:21I think the Orioles, I think Orioles fans can say the same
- 24:23things. There's issues there.
- 24:26But like, but I guess my question is, are we putting
- 24:29other team? Like are we just defaulting to
- 24:32the Guardians or if you want to fill fill in that, that blank
- 24:35with the Orioles, are we just putting them in that
- 24:38conversation? Because that's the question.
- 24:40Like we, you kind of just have to provide an answer like, oh,
- 24:43who's good? Who's going to give the the
- 24:46Astros the best run for the money?
- 24:47Or do we think they legitimately could?
- 24:50Because the way I see it right now is I just, it's, it's the
- 24:53same thing year after year where it's like you've got, it's the,
- 24:57it's the Moneyball meme. You've got the Astros, 50 feet
- 25:00of crap and then the rest of the American League.
- 25:02And I, I don't see how that's any different this year with the
- 25:05way that they've been playing with the personnel that they
- 25:07have. I just don't know if, if which
- 25:12of these are legitimately giving the Stroves a run for the money.
- 25:15I just don't. I'm so sick of it.
- 25:19I think. I mean, there's teams like the
- 25:22Yankees and the Orioles when hot, when going well can, but
- 25:29you just don't know. It's like a flip of a coin of
- 25:30what you're going to get in certain aspects, right?
- 25:33Like it's a flip of the coin of the defence and the pitching
- 25:37that you're going to get from the Yankees.
- 25:39It's a flip of the coin of offense randomly shutting down
- 25:42for the Orioles and they're pitching the Astros.
- 25:47Just what they've done. I mean, if you take out the
- 25:50month of April, they've dominated.
- 25:54They've dominated. And it's just like it's the
- 25:56norm. It's so I'm so sick of it.
- 26:02I'm so sick of it. No, I mean, it's, I think
- 26:04they're, I think they're very much in the ALCS at least.
- 26:09And that's what I'm saying you like, you make a valid point
- 26:11when ha Yankees team teams like that, the Yankees, the Orioles,
- 26:15they can, they can certainly serve as a threat.
- 26:20But to your point, that's a flip of the coin across the field in
- 26:24that other dugout, in that other clubhouse, the Astros, they're
- 26:28not as much of A flip, a flip of a coin, if at all.
- 26:31Yeah, I hate it. Sick of it.
- 26:35I don't. I don't know, man.
- 26:37Like what year? Is it going to be when we're
- 26:39when we're not talking about the Astros like this?
- 26:42Because it's every single season I.
- 26:45Don't know. I don't know.
- 26:47I mean, you got you got Verlander that's close to done.
- 26:55You got Bregman who's potentially leaving.
- 26:58You know what I mean? They're.
- 27:00Not they're talking about not even giving Verland like the the
- 27:03I'm seeing the I shouldn't say they I'm not saying the Astros
- 27:06are discussing this. Maybe they are.
- 27:08But I've seen the question floated around like should the
- 27:10Astros give Justin Verlander post season starts?
- 27:13And it's like the fact that we can even have that conversation
- 27:16and, and still consider them like fine or a shoe into the LCS
- 27:20shows you the state of the team and where they're at right now
- 27:22and the way they're playing and have been playing all year.
- 27:26It's insane. They just continue to bring guys
- 27:29in, dude, continue to just fill gaps, fill guys in and it's like
- 27:34over and over and over, productive over and over.
- 27:41And then they just add a star and Josh Hader's normal Josh
- 27:46Hader. I did watch.
- 27:50I know you're not a huge fan of him, but the Trevor May does
- 27:55stuff on on TikTok where he does like breakdowns and stuff.
- 28:00And he talked about how like haters grip gets like different
- 28:06life out of his pitch that I believe it was a sinker.
- 28:11Was it maybe maybe just A2 seam? I don't remember what it was,
- 28:14but what he the way he throws it just comes out at a different
- 28:18angle and it doesn't necessarily do what everyone else's does at
- 28:23that same pitch. And it's just like when you
- 28:26watch it, you're like, oh, it's just an embarrassment of riches
- 28:30in Houston. And like you said, like they're
- 28:32doing all of this without Kyle Tucker, you know, throw him back
- 28:37into the line up. You give him two weeks to get
- 28:39right and then the post season is going to be the typical post
- 28:43season that they always have. And it's just like you have guys
- 28:46are merging on the scene like Rhino Blanco.
- 28:48They're just like, OK, like you're just you're another stud
- 28:54to the rotation. It's so it's just a really like
- 29:01well run organization in so many different aspects and it makes
- 29:08me annoyed and jealous. Speaking of a rotation, Speaking
- 29:14of a well run organization, the Dodgers are sets to get
- 29:19Yoshinobu Yamamoto back on Tuesday.
- 29:21He is poised to make a start against the Cubs, has been out
- 29:28since June 16th, has made two rehab starts at the AAA level
- 29:35and is is set for Tuesday. Tuesday Oh yes, it's Imanaga.
- 29:46It's going to be Imanaga and Yamamoto.
- 29:50That's sick. That's on purpose.
- 29:52It has to be on purpose. So we're going to have Imanaga,
- 29:56Yamamoto and Otani all on the field at once.
- 30:00That's dope. Tuesday.
- 30:03Tuesday's a must watch game. There you go.
- 30:07We may we may even just skip our weekend series to watch.
- 30:09That may just be like if you watch one game this week, watch,
- 30:13watch Dodgers, Cubs. That's so cool.
- 30:16That's so sick. Is that really what it's
- 30:19showing? Yeah, it's on TBS too.
- 30:25Yeah, this is all on purpose. Yeah, for sure.
- 30:29And don't forget say it Suzuki too.
- 30:31Like, dude, there's going to be, what time is that in Japan?
- 30:40Probably like 4 AMI, don't know they're.
- 30:44Going to be locked in though, that's dope.
- 30:49Love that. Yeah, but this is big for the
- 30:51Dodgers. I mean, we've been talking for
- 30:53the last last, well for a majority of the season, but
- 30:56especially the last month talking about the state of the
- 30:58rotation. And this is 11 less question
- 31:01mark that you got to deal with because I think they I think I
- 31:03saw they have decided to or recently just put Gavin Stone on
- 31:08the IL. So that's something that you
- 31:11have to deal with, something you have to take into account moving
- 31:15forward as again, we approach the middle of the month here
- 31:18with just a few weeks left. But if you can get Yamamoto
- 31:22stretched out, if you can get him, like honestly, you, you and
- 31:27I both have talked about like, OK, what it what would be what
- 31:30would be best case scenario for the Dodgers?
- 31:31Like do you want to, do you want to take the division and and
- 31:34take the rest that your rotation needs with that buy or do you
- 31:40just want to kind of roll right into it with a wild card and and
- 31:45try your chances there and just hope that you can get hot like
- 31:48some of these recent wild card teams in years past have been
- 31:51able to to get. But the either way, just use the
- 31:59rest of September to like forget, forget results with
- 32:03Yamamoto. Just get them stretched out
- 32:04again, get them help, get them back healthy.
- 32:07And to my original point, that's one last question mark you have
- 32:11to worry about once the calendar flips.
- 32:13So. That's what, that's what this is
- 32:16what it feels like with every like superstar coming back.
- 32:19I won't say superstar, but every, every like piece to the
- 32:22puzzle just slowly rejoining, right?
- 32:24Like we've seen what Muncie coming back has done.
- 32:28We've seen what Tommy Edmond, like finally getting an
- 32:31opportunity to be in a Dodger uniform has done.
- 32:33We've seen Chris Taylor being added in, right?
- 32:36Like you're seeing guys just kind of slowly come back.
- 32:39You're probably going to get glass now towards the end of the
- 32:41month. Like all of these names being
- 32:43added back in. That's what it truly means to
- 32:49have wins in the Bank of what they've done all year.
- 32:53So to have all of that just kind of stacked up and added in and
- 32:56then you're slowly just kind of bringing guys back into the
- 32:59fold. You know, you can go back a few
- 33:03weeks and and go back to like Mookie coming back.
- 33:05Like all of these are just another piece to the puzzle of
- 33:09just like gearing up for the only thing that matters in in
- 33:15LA, which is the postseason. Nothing else matters.
- 33:21Speaking of the post season, a team that we will certainly see
- 33:24there, the Milwaukee Brewers, being led by a guy that I don't
- 33:28think we've given enough credit to.
- 33:29I don't. Like anyone does.
- 33:32Yeah, not just us, pretty much baseball, the entirety of
- 33:36baseball. Willie Adamus, having a career
- 33:38year over the weekend was able to reach the 3100 threshold and
- 33:45coming into the day, believe it or not, more RBIs than Bobby
- 33:49Witt, Gunner Henderson and Frankie Lindor.
- 33:52I did see a nugget floating around out there that said he is
- 33:58the Willie Adamas is the only primary shortstop in the
- 34:03National League with a season of 30 plus homers and 100 plus RB
- 34:06is in addition to, and this is I guess going back all time Willie
- 34:12Adamas. Obviously this year, Trevor
- 34:15Story back in 2018, Troy Tulowitzki and Ernie Banks.
- 34:20Two of those had the the the benefit and fortune of being
- 34:23able to play in course and the other one is a Hall of Famer.
- 34:27So do with that information what you will.
- 34:29Willie Thomas is having just a fantastic year and is most
- 34:35definitely setting himself up for a little little bit of a
- 34:41nice contract coming up. I can I be honest with you, like
- 34:45I know I just got done saying like, oh, we don't give him
- 34:47enough. We don't give him enough love
- 34:49and I haven't given enough credit this year.
- 34:51I just don't know if this is going to be one of those guys
- 34:54that hands out to any sort of mega.
- 34:58Well, I won't even say mega, but presumably large contract that
- 35:02he's most likely going to be seeking this offseason.
- 35:07Would you agree or would you disagree?
- 35:08Yeah. How do we feel about Adamus as a
- 35:11as a package at this stage in his career coming up on on 30?
- 35:18I mean this in a compliment, like I mean this as a compliment
- 35:23because you and I had discussions about it for a while
- 35:29that at the time we felt like he was probably the best shortstop
- 35:34in the AL. He gives me Zander Bogart's
- 35:36vibes where he just quietly puts up numbers and probably doesn't
- 35:42get a ton of respect as he's doing it.
- 35:47And I'm and I could also imagine a similar fall off the way
- 35:53Xander has in San Diego. But overall, like when you look
- 36:03at, I mean just look at numbers, he's also gonna get to, he's
- 36:07also going to get to 30 double s.
- 36:09He's at 29 right now. He's probably going to get to 20
- 36:12stolen bases at 18. It's just like it's just overall
- 36:19efficient. He's playing every day.
- 36:21He's played 142 games this year. Like this is a massive reason
- 36:29why the Brewers are where they are.
- 36:31A massive reason. He's just kind of like walking
- 36:37through year over year being so solid.
- 36:41I mean, he had 20 20/21. He had 25 home runs, 31 home
- 36:54runs in 20/22/24 last year, 30 this year.
- 36:59Like he just quietly just does his job.
- 37:07I feel more MVP vibes than Frankie Landour here.
- 37:13I'm not going to sit here and say he should be the MVP because
- 37:16I don't think Frankie Landour should be the MVP.
- 37:18But this gives me the same argument that all Mets fans want
- 37:23to say. Same argument is like, oh, the
- 37:26bets wouldn't be here without Frankie Landour.
- 37:28I don't think the Brewers would be here without Willie Adamus.
- 37:33And it just makes you wonder like I'm sure the Dodgers for
- 37:37the last few years, because the Dodgers been linked to him of
- 37:40like, you know, every deadline, like every offseason, like,
- 37:44should they go get their shortstop?
- 37:45Should they go get them? And it makes you wonder like,
- 37:48are they kicking themselves for not pulling the trigger and just
- 37:51giving the Brewers that they asked for?
- 37:53Because this is this deserves a lot more respect.
- 37:57Not to mention the 8O8O8 OPS this year.
- 38:03This man's doing everything right and I don't know defensive
- 38:10metrics, but I'm going to go ahead and assume it's pretty
- 38:13solid there too. Is that a fair comp though?
- 38:18Like the? You're I mean as as as very hot
- 38:21take ish of you to say maybe possibly more MVP vibes and
- 38:27Franklin Dore, because I mean, the season Franklin Dore has
- 38:30been putting up is nothing to turn your nose up at by any
- 38:33stretch. But I I don't think that means
- 38:36you have to take anything away. In saying that.
- 38:39I don't think that that means you have to take anything away
- 38:41from from Willy Damas. I think each of them can or, or
- 38:46we can view each of them as having great seasons
- 38:51respectively in their own rights and doing.
- 38:55And, and you made a good point and doing things for their
- 39:00respective teams and the, and the Brewers and the Mets that
- 39:04has LED their teams to the points in which they're at.
- 39:08The Brewers obviously much better off right now than the
- 39:11Mets are, but the Mets, you take Franklin Door out of the
- 39:15equation for really any length of time this season.
- 39:18We're not talking about the Mets right now.
- 39:21It's as simple as that. So.
- 39:23These are very similar numbers. These are very similar.
- 39:29Then, well, I mean then I don't know, like I I mean does do do
- 39:34we pull the the East Coast bias card then, like I what is it
- 39:39about Willie Damas that's not getting the the recognition I.
- 39:44Mean the OPS or. That's leading to him not
- 39:46getting the recognition that he deserves.
- 39:48Yeah, it's Milwaukee for sure. Like you just get lost.
- 39:51You just get lost there. The Midwest, dude.
- 39:53But I mean, there are certain numbers, don't get me wrong.
- 39:55Like, you know, the OPS is a little bit higher on the Frankie
- 39:58Lindor side at 837. Strikeouts are a little bit
- 40:03lower, but the Dominus also has more RBIs.
- 40:09They're around the same category and or same, you know,
- 40:12neighborhood with stolen bases, double s.
- 40:15They're gonna be pretty close in numbers.
- 40:17It's just I think it's just the voice of Mets Twitter that's
- 40:23probably giving me the overreaction status.
- 40:32I think that I'm gonna attach to Frankie Lindor.
- 40:36Don't get me wrong, it's a very good year.
- 40:37It's just, I don't know, the same way, the same way we toss
- 40:43around GOAT too much too often. I think MVP is being tossed
- 40:48around too much here. This is just kind of right off
- 40:53the top of the Dome here, but you could make a comp between
- 40:56Franklin and or Taylor Swift great in their own rights.
- 41:02They bring a lot of value to their respective industries, but
- 41:05at a certain point you almost just get kind of tired of
- 41:07hearing about it. Sure.
- 41:10And that's no fault of their own.
- 41:11Yeah. But it's like when there's a,
- 41:14when there's a group of people, whether it be Swifties or Mets
- 41:17fans that want you to know about the the, the individual that
- 41:23they are cherishing at this moment in time.
- 41:29They were going to, they're going to do what they have to do
- 41:32to make sure that that message is received.
- 41:35And so we are going to continue, say what you will, we are going
- 41:42to continue to get the Franklin Door MVP narrative shoved down
- 41:46our throat until November until the ward is handed out.
- 41:49And then presumably after that as well, assuming.
- 41:53The ruckus of being upset, Yeah, yeah.
- 41:55If he doesn't, if he doesn't lock it in, then you're we're
- 41:58going to hear about it. But that's just that's just how
- 42:01they roll in Queens, I suppose. Talk about the golden age of of
- 42:05shortstops, though. I mean, we could, we could work
- 42:10our way around the league here there's.
- 42:13That might be a fun little segment for the offseason, Do a
- 42:15little deep dive into the the year of the shortstop that we've
- 42:18we've witnessed this year. This is impressive.
- 42:21Like going forward to, I don't think there's going to be a fall
- 42:24off. There's some really, really good
- 42:29shortstops and and maybe that's where, you know, Adamus kind of
- 42:32gets overlooked a little bit as well.
- 42:35It's just the depth of talent at the shortstop position.
- 42:40But overall, both really good years.
- 42:43Both between Frankie and Willy, really, really good years.
- 42:49Curious to see what kind of bag Willie gets.
- 42:53What I'm hearing you say is that Franklin Door is one of, if not
- 42:59the worst shortstop we've ever seen and then show hey is
- 43:04undeserving of the MVP and that we should give it to Willie
- 43:07Damas. That's what I'm hearing you say.
- 43:09I'll leave it up to interpretation to our listeners
- 43:11that what they can, they can parse that out how they please.
- 43:15But as you, as we mentioned off the top here, this is a Road Rd.
- 43:19episode for us. I'm wearing, I'm in a, I'm in a,
- 43:23I'm in a beach house right now. You're in a, a hotel room.
- 43:27So I think. You're clearly.
- 43:30I'm clearly hanging out with Grimace.
- 43:32Grimace, I'm a bug flying around a.
- 43:39Baseball bucket of baseballs, Yeah.
- 43:42No, but the the plan was to just kind of get in and out here.
- 43:45Didn't want to spend too much time given that we are fighting
- 43:54the fight that is the shaky Wi-Fi that tends to haunt us
- 43:59around this time of year when we're out of town.
- 44:02But you got anything else for the folks before we get out of
- 44:05here? I'm done with oven mitts.
- 44:10I'm done with the with the oven mitts.
- 44:13Let's let's be done. They're sticking out of the back
- 44:17pocket. It looks ridiculous.
- 44:19The amount of guys that have seen like overslide the bag
- 44:22'cause they can't grab it with their fingers.
- 44:24The I'm just, I'm done with it. Like how many got like are you
- 44:29really jamming your fingers that much?
- 44:31Are we scraping your hands up that much?
- 44:33Like enough is enough. I'm so tired of the oven mitts.
- 44:39Hate them. Outside of that, I'm good, you
- 44:44know, I'm feeling. Good.
- 44:45Oh, good. Good.
- 44:46OK. Yeah, yeah, yeah, we're good.
- 44:48Glad to hear you doing. Why?
- 44:49That is good. I did take a dip in the Pacific
- 44:51Ocean yesterday. That must have been miserable.
- 44:54No, it's actually really, really nice.
- 44:57It was like apparently like, this is the hottest weekend in
- 45:00California and who knows how long.
- 45:02I heard it was like 114 or something this this weekend.
- 45:07I think up here, yeah, 'cause we're like up in the hills a
- 45:09little bit now, but the, when we were in like Newport yesterday,
- 45:14it was like 95. Yeah, it's been hot here.
- 45:18So you best believe went went swimming in the ocean.
- 45:21A little freaky. There's a round sunset too, so
- 45:25like big time. Just the shark hour, you know?
- 45:29But I did it. My closing thought here as as
- 45:34dinner time approaches us and sounds like the fam downstairs
- 45:38getting a little more rowdy so we'll get out of here.
- 45:40But my final thought is that Speaking of the heat in
- 45:44California, I've been seeing how some of the some of the
- 45:46California teams are giving away like water bottles.
- 45:50It was either today or like in the coming days or something as
- 45:54if it's like this grand gesture where it's like, hey, pick up
- 45:58your voucher for a free water bottle.
- 46:00It's like, are you really, like, I mean, good on you, I guess,
- 46:06for, like, letting folks know that that'll be available.
- 46:08But did you have to go out and make a graphic for it and post
- 46:12it on social media? Like, just just tweet it out
- 46:15that, hey, we're gonna have water here and you can grab one
- 46:16on the way in. Don't pretend like it's this big
- 46:18grand gesture that you're helping out us peasants by
- 46:22giving us a free water bottle. And I did see that some of the
- 46:24teams are giving away Dasani. And then some of the people in
- 46:26the replies were like, I'm good, thanks.
- 46:28Actually, I'll go without the water.
- 46:30Yeah, I'll drink from the sprinkler outside instead.
- 46:33Thanks though. That was that was my closing
- 46:35thought. I just, I just thought that it
- 46:37gave me a good laugh when I saw that these teams are like
