For over 40 years, a passionate crew in Knife River has fought to save the historic Leif Erikson Viking Ship—a 42-foot vessel that sailed to Duluth in 1926—after decades of neglect, vandalism, and rot left it dangerously exposed. Thanks to tireless advocacy and a $225,000 state grant, the ship now rests safely at the Knife River Culture Center, finally protected from the elements.
