- 0:04Speaker 1: Will we have a moment. We're gonna talk Phillies first
- 0:06Speaker 1: of all coming up, So I'm pretty excited about that.
- 0:11Speaker 1: I know some people are asking, I guess we can
- 0:13Speaker 1: kind of save this about what the Phillies are going
- 0:15Speaker 1: to look like next year. There are a lot of
- 0:18Speaker 1: question marks. There are quite a few free agents looming,
- 0:22Speaker 1: and in general, if you haven't had a good result
- 0:26Speaker 1: in the postseason for the last couple of years, even
- 0:29Speaker 1: if you feel like you've got the right team, kind
- 0:31Speaker 1: of forced Crafts to do something different. We started touching
- 0:35Speaker 1: on this last night. Do you disagree?
- 0:38Speaker 2: We'll see Are you forced? Really? Like, are you forced
- 0:41Speaker 2: to change your team for the regular season if you
- 0:44Speaker 2: don't come up with timely hitting in the postseason? You like, okay,
- 0:49Speaker 2: so how are you gonna how are you going to
- 0:51Speaker 2: identify that? Oh, this guy right here? Like if they
- 0:54Speaker 2: had Kyle Tucker, if they had gotten him in the offseason,
- 0:57Speaker 2: like they almost did. Do does do their fortunes change?
- 1:04Speaker 1: Maybe?
- 1:05Speaker 2: No? I mean you can't get you can't forget Altuve,
- 1:10Speaker 2: you can't go get John Carlos State. You can't just
- 1:12Speaker 2: make your whole team full of guys who have had
- 1:14Speaker 2: success in the postseason.
- 1:17Speaker 1: It's not just about that. I'm just saying the complexion,
- 1:20Speaker 1: what the roster right now hasn't produced good results in
- 1:23Speaker 1: the postseason.
- 1:25Speaker 2: But you have to have an answer to it. You
- 1:27Speaker 2: can't just say results bad, No way. It has to
- 1:30Speaker 2: be a execution of it. There has to be a
- 1:33Speaker 2: process to it too.
- 1:35Speaker 3: I think we might get someone who might know the answers.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Yeah, well he has the answer. Jack is just really
- 1:41Speaker 2: because I don't have them. I don't have.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Let's do a good ten minutes here with Jack Fritz
- 1:48Speaker 1: from a ninety four to one wip in Philadelphia. Jack,
- 1:51Speaker 1: thanks for joining us, and let's actually start with the
- 1:53Speaker 1: debate that we were just having. Do you believe that
- 1:56Speaker 1: there needs to be some roster turnover when there haven't
- 1:59Speaker 1: been postseason results?
- 2:02Speaker 4: Well, first off, I'm excited to be here. I can't believe.
- 2:06Speaker 4: Of course you bring me on right after Hoffman, who like, like,
- 2:10Speaker 4: that's just a sick joke. That's just an absolutely sick joke.
- 2:14Speaker 4: Who knows who knows they've brought him back? Am I
- 2:17Speaker 4: even here looking like a you know, despondent? So yeah,
- 2:21Speaker 4: So on what I do agree with Cratzy from the
- 2:24Speaker 4: standpoint of like, they're a really good baseball team that
- 2:27Speaker 4: lost to a great baseball team. Are they a perfect team?
- 2:31Speaker 4: Absolutely not. And we know that they have their flaws,
- 2:34Speaker 4: and I think they'll they'll shake it up a little bit.
- 2:38Speaker 4: But at the same time, if you're the Phillies and
- 2:40Speaker 4: you see that, like you they just barely lost this series,
- 2:44Speaker 4: you know, and and I think they are going to
- 2:48Speaker 4: look at that and say, how truly far away are we?
- 2:52Speaker 5: They have to get better. They know that, you know.
- 2:54Speaker 4: I'm sure they're gonna move on from some core pieces,
- 2:57Speaker 4: But like I still would resign kylege I still would
- 3:01Speaker 4: have resigned j T. They're probably gonna let Ranger walk.
- 3:04Speaker 4: You bring up some of the kids, you know, Justin Crawford,
- 3:07Speaker 4: probably in the major leagues next year, Andrew Painter if
- 3:11Speaker 4: it has to be in the starting rotation next year,
- 3:13Speaker 4: because you're letting Ranger go. I just they lost to
- 3:18Speaker 4: a great team, and the a Phillies have defined ways
- 3:20Speaker 4: to get better. But don't I don't leave this year
- 3:24Speaker 4: saying they're so far away. I think that the second
- 3:27Speaker 4: best team in baseball. I thought that if they could
- 3:30Speaker 4: have easily won games one or two, if they just
- 3:32Speaker 4: locked in a little bit more. They went out to
- 3:34Speaker 4: La killed them in Game three, and they lost a brutal,
- 3:38Speaker 4: tough baseball game yesterday again to a great, great, great
- 3:43Speaker 4: Dodgers team that turned it on at the exact right time.
- 3:46Speaker 4: So I don't think they need institutional changes. I think
- 3:48Speaker 4: they need marginal changes to make themselves better.
- 3:52Speaker 3: Yeah, you mentioned far away, not too far away, but
- 3:56Speaker 3: speaking of far away, only four hundred and fifty five feet,
- 4:00Speaker 3: do you are you buying that?
- 4:02Speaker 4: No, that that there's no way that was At least
- 4:05Speaker 4: he hit one four eighty eight off you Darvish, right,
- 4:07Speaker 4: and and that looked like the exact same like the
- 4:10Speaker 4: exact same spot. So no way, there's no way that
- 4:14Speaker 4: that was that.
- 4:15Speaker 3: I think you get short changed when it hits the
- 4:17Speaker 3: very top of the stadium. It's like, I want to
- 4:20Speaker 3: know how far it would have went if it just
- 4:21Speaker 3: laying it back on earth, not hitting the structure that's built,
- 4:25Speaker 3: you know, two hundred feet up in the air. But
- 4:28Speaker 3: we we it short changed him. That's that was my
- 4:30Speaker 3: only point because that but that was one of the
- 4:32Speaker 3: furthest balls that I'd ever seen hit.
- 4:35Speaker 4: Yeah, he's uh, he hits tanks. Unfortunately for the Phillies,
- 4:38Speaker 4: like Man. Besides game Game three, when those guys all
- 4:42Speaker 4: showed up, the biggest reason why they're sitting home today
- 4:45Speaker 4: is they're big three at the top of the lineup
- 4:47Speaker 4: to not come through. Like we can talk about the
- 4:49Speaker 4: changes they need to make and things like that, but
- 4:51Speaker 4: if Kyle Schubert, Tray Turner and Bryce Harper show up
- 4:53Speaker 4: in the series, it's a it's a completely different ball game.
- 4:57Speaker 5: Now.
- 4:57Speaker 4: I know you could say, well, they held out Tawny down,
- 4:59Speaker 4: and they they held Noki down, they held Freddie Freeman
- 5:02Speaker 4: down pretty well. Dodger will still have like plethora of
- 5:06Speaker 4: talent after that, whereas the Phillies are more top halfy.
- 5:09Speaker 4: I think they did a better job of filling out
- 5:12Speaker 4: their lineup and some of the guys that bounce back years.
- 5:14Speaker 4: But I mean, that's that's probably the most disappointing thing
- 5:17Speaker 4: sitting here today is had those three shown up outside
- 5:20Speaker 4: of one game, it's a totally different series.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Do you feel like the offseason Denbrowski put a bullpen
- 5:27Speaker 2: together that was a postseason winning bullpen because you still
- 5:32Speaker 2: had Alvarado at that time, you lost Hoffman and you maybe,
- 5:37Speaker 2: in my opinion, if there's a section. It's starting pitching, bullpen,
- 5:42Speaker 2: position players. That bullpen was thin to start the year
- 5:47Speaker 2: even before. I mean when we saw Alvarado and spring training,
- 5:50Speaker 2: I think it was like seven innings, one hundred strikeouts,
- 5:53Speaker 2: something ridiculous. He was, he was kind of a little
- 5:56Speaker 2: bit on the little bit on the good good. But
- 6:01Speaker 2: to me, it looked like they build it a little short.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Do you agree or disagree?
- 6:05Speaker 5: I totally agree.
- 6:06Speaker 4: Heading into the season, I felt like they were an
- 6:08Speaker 4: arm short before it even started. And it ended up
- 6:12Speaker 4: being okay because they got Deron and and they got
- 6:16Speaker 4: Robertson and he was kind of a they needed him
- 6:19Speaker 4: at that point. But I think the one glaring thing
- 6:23Speaker 4: about the bullpen, at least this off season. Now, it's
- 6:25Speaker 4: nice you have Deron because Dearan is here for another
- 6:28Speaker 4: two years. You have a lockdown closer. It's easier to
- 6:31Speaker 4: build a pen that way. Shrom's coming back on an option.
- 6:34Speaker 4: Unfortunately for Ryan Kirkring, I have no idea what he's
- 6:36Speaker 4: gonna look like next year. I mean, that could be
- 6:38Speaker 4: something that lingers for forever.
- 6:41Speaker 5: Who knows.
- 6:41Speaker 4: Hopefully it comes back and me's fine. I feel bad
- 6:43Speaker 4: for him today, but Robertson's not coming back. They need
- 6:47Speaker 4: they need another right handed option to get the ball
- 6:50Speaker 4: to Juan Duran and and that is of all the
- 6:53Speaker 4: things they they have to do this offseason. Getting someone
- 6:56Speaker 4: I don't know, like Luke Weaver or something like that
- 6:59Speaker 4: that can be a real righty for them to get
- 7:02Speaker 4: the ball to Doran and get big outs in the
- 7:06Speaker 4: postseason and be a bridge is imperative. So that before
- 7:12Speaker 4: the season, I thought the bullpen was flawed, bore itself
- 7:16Speaker 4: out until the trade deadline, and as something that the
- 7:18Speaker 4: Brows gas to get right this offseason.
- 7:22Speaker 1: E FT is presented by Fox one and we're getting
- 7:25Speaker 1: ready to talk about the Phillies coming up in a moment.
- 7:27Speaker 1: But on the American League side, you've been watching these
- 7:31Speaker 1: games on Fox one if you're in the US, and
- 7:34Speaker 1: you have the opportunity to keep doing that by getting
- 7:37Speaker 1: yourself a little seven day free trial at foxwe dot com.
- 7:40Speaker 1: So the QR code is on the screen if you
- 7:43Speaker 1: want to check that out and get yourself the free
- 7:44Speaker 1: seven day trial so you can see what it has
- 7:46Speaker 1: to offer. It's not just the playoffs, it's also football,
- 7:51Speaker 1: college football, pregame shows, sitcoms, the whole deal. So check
- 7:55Speaker 1: it out. There's something for everyone. It's brand new, and
- 7:58Speaker 1: they've been sponsoring us here during the postseason. Also, specifically,
- 8:03Speaker 1: AJ's game tonight can be accessed via Fox One. AJ
- 8:07Speaker 1: will be on the call with Adam Waynwright and Adam
- 8:09Speaker 1: Amean and you've got the Mariners matching up with the
- 8:12Speaker 1: Tigers Brady on Sundays, among many other things.
- 8:16Speaker 3: Yeah, speaking of the way the game ended yesterday, what
- 8:21Speaker 3: is the reaction in Philly? Do you turn on the
- 8:23Speaker 3: local radio stations listen in. What is the reaction as
- 8:29Speaker 3: what I expect?
- 8:31Speaker 1: Oh?
- 8:32Speaker 4: Yeah, well, so it's interesting. People are definitely they're mad
- 8:35Speaker 4: at the Phillies. I think they're mostly mad at the
- 8:37Speaker 4: top three. They're mad at Schwarber, Harper, and Turner. I
- 8:41Speaker 4: think there's a good portion of Philly is that feels
- 8:44Speaker 4: bad for Ryan Kirkering.
- 8:46Speaker 5: You know, we're all humans. He's a human.
- 8:48Speaker 4: He's a younger kid, and he just blacked out, Like
- 8:51Speaker 4: he just blacked out and had one of the biggest
- 8:55Speaker 4: blunders that I.
- 8:57Speaker 5: Think I've ever seen here. You know, like they're calling
- 9:01Speaker 5: it Oriyan's melt, you know, instead of Orion's belt. So yeah,
- 9:06Speaker 5: you believe him.
- 9:07Speaker 3: Do you believe him? Coming out in front of the
- 9:10Speaker 3: camera and being raw and vulnerable and being human has
- 9:14Speaker 3: helped totally.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:16Speaker 4: I mean, yeah, it's hard to it's hard to have
- 9:19Speaker 4: all this anger when you see the guy almost you know,
- 9:22Speaker 4: welling up when talking about it, because I mean, he
- 9:25Speaker 4: feels like he let down his teammates, He felt like
- 9:26Speaker 4: he let down an entire city. And the truth is
- 9:28Speaker 4: like they didn't lose that game because of Ryan karaktering.
- 9:30Speaker 5: It sucked. It was it was unbelievable.
- 9:33Speaker 4: I felt like I was watching it in slow motion
- 9:34Speaker 4: and I was like, oh, perfect out, what was he doing?
- 9:37Speaker 5: Like what do you mean? What are you doing? On anyway,
- 9:38Speaker 5: But I think the most of.
- 9:40Speaker 4: The anger is is is geared towards the top three
- 9:43Speaker 4: in the offense, even having them in that situation. And
- 9:46Speaker 4: then I think as we get further and further away
- 9:49Speaker 4: from the series, I'm just going to keep going back
- 9:51Speaker 4: to games one and two and thinking if they could
- 9:52Speaker 4: have stolen one of those, it's a completely different series.
- 9:55Speaker 5: But yeah, people are people are annoyed.
- 9:57Speaker 4: People are really annoyed because I think what happened this
- 10:00Speaker 4: year is that people believed again and they believed after
- 10:04Speaker 4: last year when they lost to the Mets and they
- 10:06Speaker 4: went down like dogs, and and the city was done
- 10:09Speaker 4: with them, and they sucked us back in and they
- 10:13Speaker 4: had us believing again they were different and Harrison Batter
- 10:16Speaker 4: with the what a Gift thing?
- 10:17Speaker 5: I love Harrison Bader and he got to resign him.
- 10:20Speaker 4: And you have Deron and the intro and you're like, damn,
- 10:23Speaker 4: it's one more time, like I'm open my heart and
- 10:26Speaker 4: then they just stomp on it. They just stomp on it.
- 10:29Speaker 4: And I think that that is that is what is
- 10:31Speaker 4: hitting people. I think there's more sadness today that the
- 10:34Speaker 4: season's over than mad personally. Now maybe that's just me
- 10:37Speaker 4: projecting because I've been despondent for you know, twelve hours,
- 10:43Speaker 4: but I think that there's more sadness today than than
- 10:46Speaker 4: like real mad. Because you do have to give it
- 10:50Speaker 4: to the Dodgers too. Man, they're they're they're great, and
- 10:54Speaker 4: damn damn they were right there.
- 10:57Speaker 2: Do you think they bring topperback this this team, this
- 11:01Speaker 2: exact team, the window is closed and you do bring topperback?
- 11:06Speaker 4: Well, I don't think the windows closed. I think it's
- 11:08Speaker 4: I think there's gonna be some different pieces to it.
- 11:11Speaker 4: You know, I think I think Casianos is a guy
- 11:12Speaker 4: who may play his last game as a filly yesterday.
- 11:16Speaker 4: Maybe Alec Baum, even though he had a good series,
- 11:19Speaker 4: feels like those are the two perpetual ones that you know,
- 11:22Speaker 4: they're always in the on the possibly getting moved out
- 11:25Speaker 4: of here thing. And I think I think had they
- 11:27Speaker 4: lost in three after what Thompson did in games one
- 11:31Speaker 4: and two, I think that there would be more of
- 11:34Speaker 4: an uproar to move move on from him. But just
- 11:37Speaker 4: in my gut, I don't think they're going to move
- 11:39Speaker 4: on from him. Although if you're gonna run back with
- 11:42Speaker 4: essentially the same team and maybe a little bit of
- 11:44Speaker 4: different mix, maybe then you you you think, hey, I
- 11:48Speaker 4: mean there's a manager that won a World Series two
- 11:50Speaker 4: years ago that that that was his fourth Maybe he's
- 11:53Speaker 4: the guy that could put this team over the top.
- 11:55Speaker 4: And Bruce Bochie. But in my gut, I I think
- 11:58Speaker 4: Rob Thompson's coming back.
- 12:01Speaker 3: What kind of deal you think Kyle Schwarber is gonna
- 12:03Speaker 3: get and are the willing Are the Phillies willing to
- 12:05Speaker 3: pay that price?
- 12:07Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 12:08Speaker 4: I think like four to one twenty feels about right.
- 12:10Speaker 4: I think he wants that fourth year. I think the
- 12:12Speaker 4: Phillies are more comfortable the third year, but I think
- 12:15Speaker 4: that fourth year gets it done. And listen, I love Schwarber,
- 12:20Speaker 4: but at the same time, one hit in the Met
- 12:23Speaker 4: Series last year was a home run, really just showed
- 12:26Speaker 4: up in one game in this series, and only the
- 12:28Speaker 4: double in the first inning yesterday, So like, maybe that
- 12:33Speaker 4: keeps it down. I don't think it will, because yet
- 12:35Speaker 4: it's still a monster year. But I think four to
- 12:38Speaker 4: one twenty feels feels about right for Kyle Schwarber.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Okay, good stuff, Well we got all our questions in
- 12:46Speaker 1: a good ten. Jack We appreciate the time, man, have
- 12:49Speaker 1: fun on your own show, or you know, as much
- 12:51Speaker 1: fun as you can talk them sports for a living.
- 12:53Speaker 1: At least Mat Kratz, I'm trying to give him a
- 12:55Speaker 1: little bit of positive motivation here.
- 12:57Speaker 2: On Philly Flyers, Eagles and Philly's lost. It's a tough day,
- 13:02Speaker 2: great day for you, Jackie boy.
- 13:05Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, yeah, Well we don't acknowledge the Flyers. We
- 13:07Speaker 5: don't know that happened. And the other show that's our pets.
- 13:11Speaker 4: Heads are falling off with the Eagles and uh and yeah,
- 13:14Speaker 4: it's gonna be It's gonna be an exciting day but
- 13:17Speaker 4: also an awful day, So really looking forward to it.
- 13:21Speaker 4: But I appreciate you guys having me on.
- 13:23Speaker 1: Hey, hot corner, let's sizzle. This news just came out.
- 13:26Speaker 1: Jose Gleasias has been slapped with a one game suspension
- 13:30Speaker 1: and Xander Bogart's and undisclosed to find both of them
- 13:34Speaker 1: in some trouble for their conduct towards the umpires in
- 13:37Speaker 1: the dugout following game three KP. Have you ever seen
- 13:42Speaker 1: this before? I mean this type of closeness after a
- 13:47Speaker 1: game where clearly it was contentious, there was a wrong call,
- 13:51Speaker 1: and the Padres feel like it ended their season.
- 13:54Speaker 3: I've seen it in a very similar venue at older
- 13:57Speaker 3: venue in Fenway, when the actually have to walk through
- 14:01Speaker 3: your dugout to go up there not a playoff game,
- 14:04Speaker 3: but a regular season game, and that's something that should
- 14:07Speaker 3: be It shouldn't really happen because it was a moment
- 14:11Speaker 3: a playoff game, you know, obviously the wrong call was made.
- 14:14Speaker 3: Players are human beings. Some players are human beings. Emotions
- 14:17Speaker 3: got the best of them, but they should never really
- 14:19Speaker 3: kind of have to leave out of the same exit
- 14:23Speaker 3: that could have been avoidable, and why.
- 14:27Speaker 1: Are we suspending guys for next year?
- 14:28Speaker 3: Let things that happen last year die with their season
- 14:32Speaker 3: allow the guy to play next year.
- 14:35Speaker 1: Move on, really good point here too, Kratz. I mean
- 14:39Speaker 1: we have a big dumper in baseball. We also have
- 14:41Speaker 1: the famous Friday news dumper in baseball. This is so
- 14:46Speaker 1: classic to put this out on a Friday afternoon, but
- 14:49Speaker 1: it is what it is. It's a story. And I'm
- 14:52Speaker 1: wondering if there's another way for the umps to go out.
- 14:55Speaker 1: I mean, I know covering and it depends on the ballpark,
- 14:58Speaker 1: but covering postseason games, sometimes or most of the time,
- 15:02Speaker 1: we would come out of a spot where the umps
- 15:04Speaker 1: would come in, and I thought that was partially for
- 15:06Speaker 1: them to not exit through where players are going to
- 15:09Speaker 1: be on that parks.
- 15:12Speaker 2: So the umpires go like when there's like a separate
- 15:15Speaker 2: think Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh down the third baseline, although they have
- 15:18Speaker 2: to make the playoffs, so Bob Nutting doesn't like that,
- 15:20Speaker 2: but there's a separate way to go down the steps.
- 15:25Speaker 2: It looks like it's the dugout, but it's actually a
- 15:28Speaker 2: separate entrance. It's the groundskeepers. So I think it's stayed
- 15:31Speaker 2: in the stadium. I mean, think about Wrigly. They didn't
- 15:36Speaker 2: you could barely fit in the dugout before, and then
- 15:38Speaker 2: they've done so many renovations, but there's no second way out, Like,
- 15:42Speaker 2: not only are they going down those steps right there
- 15:45Speaker 2: and Wrigley, they're going down into those into the dugout,
- 15:49Speaker 2: and then they're going down basically either through the video room.
- 15:53Speaker 2: I think they have to go through the video room,
- 15:55Speaker 2: which is at the bottom of dugout, and so you're
- 15:59Speaker 2: you're going through some you're going through some fire, and
- 16:02Speaker 2: guys are pissed. I don't agree at all with so
- 16:06Speaker 2: many parts of this. I don't agree with what Iglesias
- 16:08Speaker 2: did and Bogarts did. I don't agree with the umpire
- 16:12Speaker 2: barking back. I don't agree with them having to walk through.
- 16:15Speaker 2: It just felt like everybody was set up for failure
- 16:19Speaker 2: to make a bad choice, Like everybody's just barking back,
- 16:23Speaker 2: and unfortunately the other umpires were like, okay, okay, okay,
- 16:25Speaker 2: we got it. That's the that's the Padres trainer right there,
- 16:29Speaker 2: who's helping hold hold some of the guys back. Like
- 16:33Speaker 2: it's just.
- 16:35Speaker 1: It's not good, okay. I think most people agree that
- 16:39Speaker 1: it was not a good situation. But whenever something gets
- 16:43Speaker 1: called out, I need a solution. What would have been
- 16:45Speaker 1: the solution in that scenario? And yes, I'm thinking back
- 16:48Speaker 1: now to when I covered Cups postseason games and we're
- 16:51Speaker 1: going through a lot of concourse and fans and stuff,
- 16:54Speaker 1: because again, there's just not the same setup as some
- 16:58Speaker 1: of the other ballparks. Right. A lot of the parks
- 17:00Speaker 1: crats have have do have the separate tunnel there, Like
- 17:03Speaker 1: I'm thinking of Houston for example, because they've been there
- 17:05Speaker 1: a million times since the Astros have been in the
- 17:07Speaker 1: postseason lot they have that spot where I guess still
- 17:10Speaker 1: technically you can go through some fans. It's it's like
- 17:13Speaker 1: the bougie sweet underground kind of area. There's all that food,
- 17:16Speaker 1: but then you can veer off, you know what I'm
- 17:18Speaker 1: talking about. And so the umps go through and then
- 17:20Speaker 1: we go out to do our interviews and it's completely
- 17:23Speaker 1: separated from the players. That's a more modern ballpark.
- 17:26Speaker 3: Though.
- 17:28Speaker 2: You can't you Okay, the answer, The answer is there's
- 17:32Speaker 2: always going to be something wonky about it. Do you
- 17:35Speaker 2: wait for the players to get out? Do you wait
- 17:38Speaker 2: for it? Because that's that's brutal. You make the umpires
- 17:42Speaker 2: just stand out there in the field while, you know,
- 17:45Speaker 2: because it could have been the other way it could
- 17:46Speaker 2: have been. It could have gone against the Cubs and
- 17:49Speaker 2: the Padres. The Padres had, you know, they were celebrating
- 17:54Speaker 2: on the field in that moment, like it could have
- 17:57Speaker 2: been different. Maybe they should have two sets separate ways,
- 18:01Speaker 2: Like let's say to go through the Padres dug out there. Hey, look,
- 18:04Speaker 2: we got to use our we got to use our field.
- 18:06Speaker 2: Change it up, we're going through the cubs. Dugout? Why
- 18:09Speaker 2: are we going through the cubs dug out?
- 18:10Speaker 4: Now?
- 18:10Speaker 2: I like the other way you might have to walk
- 18:12Speaker 2: a little bit farther, but the Cubs are out on
- 18:14Speaker 2: the field jumping around. Padres are looking to cut your
- 18:18Speaker 2: head off.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Yeah, a couple things. First off, I just want to
- 18:22Speaker 1: mention that Iglesias has a chance to appeal. He's going
- 18:26Speaker 1: to appeal, so he might win that battle and get
- 18:28Speaker 1: it reduced to a fine. It's one game, so they
- 18:31Speaker 1: pretty much slapped the minimum on him and then it
- 18:33Speaker 1: could still come down. But KP. Maybe we all learned
- 18:37Speaker 1: from this. And when I say we, it's mostly the
- 18:40Speaker 1: league and the umpires to decide. If you're in a
- 18:43Speaker 1: spot like Wrigley where you have to go through players,
- 18:48Speaker 1: you don't even have to look at the specific game.
- 18:50Speaker 1: What if the umps exit where the team that won
- 18:56Speaker 1: is right where the team that won is located, Because
- 18:59Speaker 1: you're not going to have a pissed off team after
- 19:01Speaker 1: they won a game, not nearly as much if I mean,
- 19:03Speaker 1: sure you could have some weird situation that popped up,
- 19:05Speaker 1: but what if you just do that and yeah, if
- 19:07Speaker 1: you have to walk an extra two minutes, who the
- 19:09Speaker 1: hell cares at that point?
- 19:11Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I think there should always be a
- 19:13Speaker 3: contingency plan in place too, because very easily, if the
- 19:18Speaker 3: Padres would have won that you know, let's say the
- 19:21Speaker 3: fans were really upset, maybe the game ended the other way,
- 19:24Speaker 3: and the fans are really upset at the umpires over
- 19:26Speaker 3: the call that they made, and maybe even their safety
- 19:29Speaker 3: is in jeopardy. Like, I think, there's got to be
- 19:31Speaker 3: a bunch of different sort of contingency plans is for
- 19:35Speaker 3: these umpires that get off the field safely. But like
- 19:39Speaker 3: you said, I mean, players should learn from this. I
- 19:42Speaker 3: know emotions are really high. It's really unfortunate that it happened,
- 19:47Speaker 3: but I think it's something they should take a look at.
- 19:49Speaker 3: And even in an older ballpark like Wrigley, there's got
- 19:53Speaker 3: to be a second way for them to get out,
- 19:55Speaker 3: and even if it takes them a little bit longer
- 19:57Speaker 3: to have to walk a little bit further off the field,
- 19:59Speaker 3: let's just make sure that the get off the field
- 20:01Speaker 3: not having to necessarily interact with either team. Like you said,
- 20:05Speaker 3: a lot of these new ballparks do a good job
- 20:07Speaker 3: of it. Now that I'm on the other side, the
- 20:09Speaker 3: media side, I saw where you know, I would enter
- 20:12Speaker 3: on the fields the same way that the umpires are
- 20:14Speaker 3: coming in and out of the field, and they never
- 20:16Speaker 3: really have to interact with either Dugout.
- 20:22Speaker 1: Also abs coming next year challenge system that will help
- 20:26Speaker 1: don't run out of challenges at the wrong time, and
- 20:29Speaker 1: then you can win that battle fair and square, and
- 20:31Speaker 1: then you can beat up a robot if you disagree.
- 20:34Speaker 1: But last point here too, there is security that MLB
- 20:38Speaker 1: I think does a good job with. I mean, I
- 20:40Speaker 1: remember every single game I've covered, and it's always all
- 20:43Speaker 1: about we have to wait the securities handling getting the
- 20:46Speaker 1: umpires off the field. But again, yes, I do think
- 20:48Speaker 1: a key here is that you're at regularly and you're
- 20:51Speaker 1: in a tougher spot. But now hopefully everyone learns from
- 20:54Speaker 1: this situation, because yeah, it looked like it kind of
- 20:57Speaker 1: could have gotten much worse, if anything. KP. I mean,
- 21:00Speaker 1: and you're pissed off your season's over. One person barks,
- 21:03Speaker 1: another person barks back.
- 21:06Speaker 3: I'm almost certain I've never been on the cub side,
- 21:09Speaker 3: but I would imagine the way that the underneath set
- 21:13Speaker 3: up behind the visiting dugout is probably mirrored by the
- 21:17Speaker 3: other way. So just make a tunnel that they can
- 21:21Speaker 3: enter and exit to both sides, and just always go
- 21:24Speaker 3: out the team that wins, because usually they're in a
- 21:26Speaker 3: better mood.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Bingo. I really think that's the move. Good. We have solved.
- 21:32Speaker 1: We have solved world.
- 21:33Speaker 5: You're welcome.
- 21:34Speaker 3: You're welcome, rob.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Baseball world problem that has plagued us all Pick Your
- 21:39Speaker 1: Poison is a now famous series where you suddenly have
- 21:43Speaker 1: to root for a different team because you love baseball
- 21:45Speaker 1: too damn much and you don't want to just watch
- 21:47Speaker 1: to watch, So which team do you want to ride
- 21:50Speaker 1: the rest of the way? And it becomes more difficult
- 21:52Speaker 1: as we progress here in the postseason. But it's the
- 21:54Speaker 1: perfect day to have KP on the show to talk
- 21:57Speaker 1: about the Toronto Blue Jays and why some baseball fans
- 22:00Speaker 1: should adopt the team in Canada. The rest of the way,
- 22:04Speaker 1: KP played for this team for a long time. You
- 22:07Speaker 1: know this franchise well. The way they treat their fans,
- 22:09Speaker 1: the way they treat players. The fact that they haven't
- 22:11Speaker 1: won since nineteen ninety three, over thirty years ago, tell
- 22:16Speaker 1: us why some fans who don't know the Blue Jays
- 22:18Speaker 1: organization well should grab them for the next few weeks.
- 22:24Speaker 3: Where do I start?
- 22:25Speaker 5: Where do I start?
- 22:27Speaker 3: Unbelievable fan base, super deserving of winning, very passionate. Like
- 22:33Speaker 3: you mentioned, they haven't won since the early nineties, but
- 22:35Speaker 3: they still come out and support their team. They love baseball,
- 22:40Speaker 3: they love all their sports. They're starving for a winner.
- 22:44Speaker 3: They come in year out, year year in and year out.
- 22:47Speaker 3: Support this team. Reasons if you're a fan and your
- 22:51Speaker 3: team's no longer in it, why you should root for
- 22:53Speaker 3: the Blue Jays. I have a couple of notes here,
- 22:55Speaker 3: wrote down during that Yankee series, they had eight guys
- 22:58Speaker 3: with two plus RBIs, They had eighteen two strike hits,
- 23:03Speaker 3: and in Game four, facing a guy in cam who
- 23:07Speaker 3: struck out twelve Red Sox in the wild cut round.
- 23:12Speaker 3: I need someone to check these stats, but I think
- 23:14Speaker 3: they only had four swing and misses. So if you
- 23:16Speaker 3: want to watch exciting and a fun brand of baseball
- 23:20Speaker 3: where you're not just waiting for one guy at a
- 23:22Speaker 3: home run or they're going to strike out, or they're
- 23:24Speaker 3: going to walk, and be this three outcome team. This
- 23:27Speaker 3: team is always exciting to watch. Their bats are incredible.
- 23:33Speaker 3: They're so selfless, they never want to talk about themselves.
- 23:37Speaker 3: This is the definition of a team, and I think
- 23:39Speaker 3: this is why you should get behind them.
- 23:42Speaker 2: If you're going to join a team, if you're going
- 23:44Speaker 2: to join a fan base that you have, or follow
- 23:46Speaker 2: a team that you haven't, you got to at least
- 23:48Speaker 2: follow one player. I talked about the Mariners Cal Raley.
- 23:54Speaker 2: This team just minted. I mean the ink is still
- 23:56Speaker 2: drying on the Vladi Guerrero extension. A guy who was
- 24:02Speaker 2: drafted by this team, not traded over and found like
- 24:06Speaker 2: he was drafted by the Blue Jays. He came up
- 24:09Speaker 2: through their system. His manager now in the big leagues
- 24:13Speaker 2: was his double a manager in in New Hampshire. They
- 24:17Speaker 2: won championships there. That combination of two guys is going
- 24:22Speaker 2: to give you that. Like, man, I can get behind
- 24:25Speaker 2: these guys every single day. I can get behind Vladdie.
- 24:28Speaker 2: The lineage of his ability to hit comes from his dad,
- 24:34Speaker 2: and yet now he also added to that plate discipline.
- 24:38Speaker 2: He added to that this postseason. I don't remember his
- 24:42Speaker 2: final numbers, but it was like six something that he
- 24:45Speaker 2: was hitting like he is rising to the moment. And
- 24:51Speaker 2: to me, if I'm joining a fan base, I can
- 24:54Speaker 2: I know I'm gonna I know, I'm gonna look at
- 24:56Speaker 2: this roster. I'm gonna be like, I know, Vladdie's playing
- 24:58Speaker 2: every single day, so I'm gonna other organizations it's like, oh, man, Like, okay,
- 25:03Speaker 2: well we're platooning. So my favorite guys hitting first. Now
- 25:07Speaker 2: it's a lefty. Now he's gonna hit six. No, Vladdie's
- 25:11Speaker 2: the heart and soul of that order, and everybody else
- 25:14Speaker 2: just kind of follows along.
- 25:18Speaker 1: For me, KP, I consider myself a new school and
- 25:22Speaker 1: old school fan. I like certain stats. I think they're
- 25:25Speaker 1: super helpful. I think we were too reliant fifteen, twenty
- 25:28Speaker 1: years ago or whatever when I was growing up on
- 25:31Speaker 1: stats that you know, didn't necessarily tell the whole picture. Okay,
- 25:36Speaker 1: But at the same time, there were parts of the
- 25:37Speaker 1: game that I fell in love with that I felt
- 25:40Speaker 1: like we got so far away from during one of
- 25:43Speaker 1: the more dead times in our sport, where I think
- 25:45Speaker 1: we lost a lot of young fans. Three true outcome,
- 25:48Speaker 1: super super slow paced games. We are getting away from that,
- 25:52Speaker 1: and for me, if you're a fan of the time
- 25:55Speaker 1: period before that and the time period that I think
- 25:57Speaker 1: we're getting out of, where it's faster, it is more contact,
- 26:02Speaker 1: there's more emphasis on defense, and that's what I'm talking about.
- 26:05Speaker 1: Our defensive metrics perfect by no means, but we had
- 26:07Speaker 1: nothing for a long period of time growing up. So
- 26:09Speaker 1: at least we have something, and that's something tells us
- 26:11Speaker 1: When you look at Toronto aside from the Game three
- 26:14Speaker 1: loss over the last three years, and you watch them
- 26:17Speaker 1: play defense, you're like, Yeah, that's fun, that's clean, that's good.
- 26:21Speaker 1: That's what young kids should look at. Right. So for me,
- 26:25Speaker 1: if you want that brand of baseball to become more
- 26:28Speaker 1: of a thing, then you want that team to win
- 26:30Speaker 1: the World Series because it's a copycat league, and then
- 26:33Speaker 1: front offices are going to be like, oh wait, they're
- 26:35Speaker 1: going to go jumping back to their computers. Wait, wait,
- 26:37Speaker 1: what are the Blue Jays doing? We aren't doing this.
- 26:39Speaker 1: We got to get more into contact defense, a little
- 26:43Speaker 1: bit more of an old school style that Eric Chabez,
- 26:45Speaker 1: former hitting coach for the Mets, just talked about with
- 26:48Speaker 1: us on foul territory a day ago. So I think
- 26:51Speaker 1: that actually is a factor here. If you enjoy a
- 26:53Speaker 1: certain brand of baseball, then you want that brand of
- 26:56Speaker 1: baseball to win, and you will see more of it
- 26:58Speaker 1: in the sport.
- 27:00Speaker 3: I do believe that they're a top five, maybe number
- 27:03Speaker 3: one in base running. Two. So let's changed the narrative
- 27:07Speaker 3: on the on the three true outcomes. Let's talk about
- 27:10Speaker 3: the Blue Jays three outcomes. They're gonna put the ball
- 27:13Speaker 3: in play, they're gonna run the base as well, and
- 27:15Speaker 3: they're gonna play defense. Those are your new three true outcomes.
- 27:18Speaker 3: Most teams should follow that recipe. It helps you win.
- 27:21Speaker 2: Games, but you gotta put a value on it. You
- 27:24Speaker 2: gotta put a value on it. What do you mean
- 27:29Speaker 2: there's any elite value in stolen strikes. There's an elite
- 27:34Speaker 2: value in home runs, there's an elite value for pitchers
- 27:37Speaker 2: striking out. You have to put a value on it.
- 27:39Speaker 2: That's going to be manipulated and be able to be taught,
- 27:43Speaker 2: because you can never have hit and you can be
- 27:46Speaker 2: taught to swing really hard and hit the ball far.
- 27:50Speaker 2: You can't have ever, never played and be taught and
- 27:54Speaker 2: teach somebody. Okay, here's how your base run. You're Dave McKay.
- 27:59Speaker 2: That's I mean, that's really what Dalton Varshow brought over
- 28:01Speaker 2: to the Blue Jays his elite based running, and everybody
- 28:04Speaker 2: followed suit from what he was taught by Dave McKay.
- 28:08Speaker 2: So you have to find that value and you have
- 28:10Speaker 2: to prove to the organizations that that value is more
- 28:13Speaker 2: than the extreme value of a home run, extreme value
- 28:18Speaker 2: of strikeouts by pitchers.
- 28:21Speaker 1: I'll throw one other pick your poison example out there,
- 28:26Speaker 1: and you know, we have plenty of Canadians that watch
- 28:29Speaker 1: this show. We have many Americans that watch this show.
- 28:32Speaker 1: I often root for fan bases that don't get a
- 28:35Speaker 1: lot of winning because I think it's cool when you
- 28:37Speaker 1: haven't seen it for a long period of time. And
- 28:39Speaker 1: I just mentioned the team right, the Blue Jays not
- 28:41Speaker 1: winning since nineteen ninety three. I think I have this right, KP.
- 28:45Speaker 1: Because I did work for NHL Network for a while
- 28:46Speaker 1: and I looked it up real quick. But the last
- 28:49Speaker 1: Canadian team to win the Stanley Cup, it's hard to
- 28:52Speaker 1: believe it, but I think it's nineteen ninety three, right,
- 28:56Speaker 1: the Montreal Canadians think that's what they say.
- 29:00Speaker 5: Right, I definitely knows the country.
- 29:04Speaker 1: Yeah, it's not the Leafs. When's the last time the.
- 29:06Speaker 3: Leaves are much the Leafs are? You know, in Toronto,
- 29:11Speaker 3: it's a big thing. They haven't won in forever, but
- 29:14Speaker 3: people still love the team like they go out and
- 29:16Speaker 3: support them, like the country, the city of Toronto. But
- 29:20Speaker 3: you have to mention the entire country of Canada wants
- 29:24Speaker 3: a winner so bad, and basketball is not even that
- 29:26Speaker 3: big of a deal. In it's a big deal in
- 29:28Speaker 3: Toronto and maybe a little bit on the east coast
- 29:31Speaker 3: of Canada. As you get out west, it's not a
- 29:33Speaker 3: big thing. They had over four million people at the
- 29:36Speaker 3: parade for when the Raptors wanted a couple of years ago.
- 29:39Speaker 3: So these people are just wanting to see a winner
- 29:42Speaker 3: so bad.
- 29:44Speaker 1: If you want baseball to continue to be in an
- 29:47Speaker 1: international sport, then every once in a while, yeah, you
- 29:50Speaker 1: get another country pulling off a dub, especially when there's
- 29:53Speaker 1: only one team in Canada, there's one team outside of
- 29:57Speaker 1: the United States, right so we've seen the sport really
- 30:00Speaker 1: go to the next level globally, especially in Japan with
- 30:04Speaker 1: the emergence of Sho Heeo Tani as one of the
- 30:06Speaker 1: best players we've really ever seen. So for Canada purposes
- 30:11Speaker 1: right now, this is a country that hasn't seen any
- 30:14Speaker 1: winner in their favorite sports since nineteen ninety three. Toronto
- 30:17Speaker 1: specifically hasn't won since nineteen sixty seven. So there's some
- 30:20Speaker 1: cool history here that could be cracked and it'd be
- 30:23Speaker 1: funny if finally they get a title from sports that
- 30:25Speaker 1: they truly love, on the baseball side before the hockey side.
- 30:29Speaker 1: So anyway, if there's something else that you think we're missing,
- 30:32Speaker 1: reason whyse drop it in the comments if you're looking
- 30:34Speaker 1: at this later
