Transcript
- 0:09Well, we all have a face that we hideaway forever and we take
- 0:16them out and show ourselves when everyone has gone.
- 0:20Some are satin, some are steel, some are silk, and some are
- 0:24leather. They are the faces of the
- 0:27stranger but we love to try them on.
- 0:39Well, we all fall in love, but we disregard the danger.
- 0:44Though we share so many secrets, there are some we never tell.
- 0:49Why were you so surprised that you never saw the stranger?
- 0:54Did you ever let your lover see the stranger in yourself?
- 1:00Welcome back to the Guinea Pig with a Blunt Pen Knife, the not
- 1:04Doctor Who commentary podcast where we look at the stranger,
- 1:08which definitely isn't Doctor Who and this isn't definitely
- 1:11not a hamster. And I'm Dylan, and I am here
- 1:16with Joe Ford. And what, what are we watching?
- 1:18Joe, I don't know anymore. Today we are watching the second
- 1:24Stranger video, More Than a Messiah.
- 1:28Yes, we are. How exciting.
- 1:29What? Does that mean more than a
- 1:31Messiah? Means he's more than a Messiah.
- 1:33I mean, you know, when I first met you, yeah, I thought you was
- 1:37a Messiah. But now I've got to know you.
- 1:40You are more than a Messiah to me.
- 1:43Maybe it's commenting on Colin's expanding waistline.
- 1:47Well, pretty right? Do you know?
- 1:50This one is something else, isn't it?
- 1:53I've got a feeling you're less keen on this one.
- 1:55I am less keen on this one. I think it over stretches itself
- 1:58slightly in a way that the first film and the third film doesn't.
- 2:01Like can you leave please? I want to get Luke Malloy in
- 2:03because he loved this one. Well, yeah, no fair and but this
- 2:07is I didn't like it much as a kid and I do like it.
- 2:11I just it is my least favorite stranger film of all of them.
- 2:14Yes. Oh, I had a great time.
- 2:16I mean, I'm going to have a great time, but I feel like.
- 2:19I thought as if I was back on 4th beta.
- 2:21Well, yeah, bright skies. It's beautiful.
- 2:26I mean it is super. This is trying to be a big
- 2:31sci-fi story, isn't it with? Alien planets.
- 2:35Massive idea at its heart of an alien planet that can produce
- 2:40humanoid antibodies to interact with people to get rid of the
- 2:46virus which is our stranger Miss Brown and everybody visiting.
- 2:50Yeah. And the, the, the, what is it
- 2:52the airport they put on there or the heliport?
- 2:56So fun fact, this was supposed to be be shot in Lanzarote and
- 3:00it wasn't not shot there because of budget.
- 3:03It was because Colin Baker's wife was heavily pregnant.
- 3:07This was going to be shot in Lanzarote.
- 3:09Yeah, but instead they shot. Could afford that.
- 3:11Apparently so, I suppose, Doctor.
- 3:14Who went there, didn't they? Yeah, exactly.
- 3:16So it would have been all the volcanic planes and yeah,
- 3:18exactly that would be. Barbara Shelley.
- 3:20Wow Oh I you know you may fight me on this.
- 3:24I did feel there was some money on the screen in this one as.
- 3:26Well, I mean, yeah, it's it's not for want of trying.
- 3:31Does get a bit attempt to get a bit sexy in place?
- 3:36When you say attempt, you mean succeeds.
- 3:38You think it succeeds in sexy? I mean, you know, we've recently
- 3:43all shared the links of Doctor Screw, and I think that's the
- 3:48only thing that's less sexy and the sex scenes in this.
- 3:53I mean, did you ever want to see Colin Baker and Sophie Aldrin at
- 3:55it? Yeah.
- 4:00What's going on? I dream about it every time.
- 4:03Almost as much as I dream of. You and Luke Malloy, well,
- 4:06exactly. Dream.
- 4:07It's a reality. That's all.
- 4:08Born we go. NIT Briggs in the middle.
- 4:11I need for you to explain to me what on earth the subplot is all
- 4:15about in this, because I didn't have a clue what Peter Miles and
- 4:19Barbara Shelley were up to. Well, we'll, I think we'll get
- 4:22into that as we start watching, won't we?
- 4:25It's not a way of enticing me into pressing play.
- 4:27Yes, push my button. Here we go.
- 4:30You ready? In 321 Go.
- 4:35Does that tickle OK? Oh, we've got the logo.
- 4:40This. Time.
- 4:40Yeah. BBV.
- 4:41Bill bags. They're a company now.
- 4:43So it was actually, it's not actually for Bill Bags video,
- 4:46it's for Bill and Ben video with Ben being his partner.
- 4:52She was for some reason somehow involved in it to start with.
- 4:56She she later divorced him. Nigel.
- 4:59Fares, Nigel Fares. So this story is oh.
- 5:03Boy, look, it's like. On the speedboat now, is this
- 5:08this, this is Doctor Who's been off for his first gay couple.
- 5:11Is that your first? Are they a gay couple?
- 5:17Yes. Oh OK, right.
- 5:21So please explain to me what is occurring.
- 5:24A speedboat is zooming around on the water.
- 5:26And Peter Miles is pissed off about it and and Barbara Shelley
- 5:30is as well that immediately I'm going this doesn't work because
- 5:35you've got this green sky that is just not reflected in the
- 5:38water. So it looks like there there
- 5:41could be shots from two different films.
- 5:43It's not in my water, you know, they made the thing.
- 5:45Yeah, exactly. And they're littering, and
- 5:49somebody's just up the litter who's got a dirty brown hand.
- 5:54That was almost product placement.
- 5:55How many times did they have to do that?
- 5:57So the logo didn't land in the water?
- 6:01I mean, I will say that is quite casting.
- 6:04Barbara Shelley and Peter Marsh, you know, Shelley's.
- 6:09Oh, well, no. Was she Doctor Plaxton, like 7?
- 6:13I think she was I. Don't know, I don't know that
- 6:15dress for. One with the with the punk
- 6:17rockers in them. I can't remember Space bike
- 6:19what's going on now. That was Sophie Elder's hand
- 6:22sticking out of the water. A bit like Excalibur.
- 6:24Yeah, exactly. She loves being in a lake.
- 6:27Sophie Elder. She does look, Yeah.
- 6:32No, that green sky doesn't really work, does it?
- 6:35Do we ever see the sort of surface of the planet?
- 6:40I think it's mostly woods. Yeah, it's mostly woods.
- 6:42Yeah. So that they've.
- 6:43Been able to afford a speedboat. I think they're at like some
- 6:47sort of like, not Pontins. What's it called?
- 6:51What do you call them? The forest of.
- 6:55But why are we watching this pair sort of gallivanting about
- 6:58on the water? To show how reckless the young
- 7:01people are on this leisure planet.
- 7:04OK. But the planet's got other
- 7:07ideas, and it it's taken Nigel Fares's boyfriend.
- 7:11Now The thing is right, it would have been amazing in Lanzarote
- 7:14because the sea would have been Azure and the sky would have
- 7:18been full of it looks. Miserable, doesn't it?
- 7:21But it's quite clearly in a pond that is a foot deep.
- 7:26In fact, I think he's on. The ground there, absolutely.
- 7:30Bless him. So this is the planet basically
- 7:33trying to rid itself. Of yeah, of all these nasty
- 7:35human elements. And there's Colin and there's
- 7:37red Trousers looking like a boss.
- 7:39This is just the beginning of my war.
- 7:40Well, they've got the the cliffs behind them.
- 7:45Anybody. Now he's he's going to chain her
- 7:47up to the cliffs and the toy. Exactly.
- 7:50Once again, she's wearing appropriate clothing.
- 7:53She looks a bit like she does in Revelation of the Dark, that
- 7:57sort of nice blue. Yeah.
- 7:59Oh yeah, those red trousers are. I don't know, look cool.
- 8:02There's a lot of different colours on the screen there,
- 8:05isn't it? I feel like I'm watching Tom and
- 8:06the Ronnie again. I imagine that they were
- 8:09providing their own clothes. Well, you know, in that book
- 8:13downtime, you know, I did read Caroline John saying she got
- 8:16very crossword built bags. He's just throw anything on,
- 8:19don't worry about continuity. And she brought in 10 outfits
- 8:21and she goes, no, I was wearing this in day one, this in day 2.
- 8:27So they're just on holiday here. Yeah, and so Miss Brown's pissed
- 8:30off again because she's, like you said, no more of this.
- 8:32And he's like, I want to go to the beach for a nap.
- 8:34But they're having a laugh, you know?
- 8:36Yeah, no, no, they're, they're clearly getting on much better,
- 8:40but what a miserable place to go visit.
- 8:42It's a bit again like Doctor Who, isn't it?
- 8:44You promised the Eye of Orion you'd get Shangri-La in Wales,
- 8:52so it's nice, yeah. So it's a little chalet in
- 8:55centre parks, that's what it is. Isn't it is that?
- 8:57Where they are? I think so, yeah.
- 8:58They've. Got them higher the chalet.
- 9:00Yeah. And what they they all stayed in
- 9:01those chalets, but they have corrugated iron roofs.
- 9:04So the weather kept them, the rain kept them awake at night
- 9:08where everyone looks a bit knackered and then.
- 9:10We've got look these alien plants here, which is cutting.
- 9:13Well, production designed Peter Miles has been basically.
- 9:18So they've come just to hunt, yeah.
- 9:21No, he's been given a sort of permanent leave from his job and
- 9:28he's been sent here to recuperate because he's
- 9:31basically as we find that he's having a mentee be.
- 9:35OK, that's quite a quite serious subject matter.
- 9:38Yeah, and he goes slowly more nuts throughout it.
- 9:42So this started life as an audio visual written by Nigel Fairs,
- 9:46starring Nicholas Briggs as the Doctor.
- 9:48It's part of that, that range of audios.
- 9:50And then it was adapted for this for video.
- 9:54So Fairs is interesting, isn't he?
- 9:55Because then he did jump across to Big Finish.
- 9:58He was instrumental in the star of the Companion Chronicles.
- 10:02He did the first couple of seasons.
- 10:03He does. He's he's also my word.
- 10:05What was that? Oh yeah, so that's the weird
- 10:08native ape creature that just doesn't look very good.
- 10:11Before he goes to Big Finish, he is the He runs the Faction
- 10:16Paradox range and the last season of Audios at BBV and
- 10:20Catherine knows. Aren't we at one point?
- 10:22Are we going to do the other? Ones or the other ones?
- 10:24No, we're. Going to do the other ones
- 10:25because the faction paradox, The scripts are great, but Nigel
- 10:29Fairs admitted afterwards that he didn't understand them and he
- 10:31also didn't realise they were supposed to be like a faction of
- 10:34Time Lords and things like that, so he pitches them completely
- 10:38differently to anything else. And the other ones, really good
- 10:40though, yeah. Fantastic.
- 10:41The magic bullet ones. Yeah, I'm super intrigued by
- 10:45those. But do you know what?
- 10:47I I have an issue with ES because as we've been doing
- 10:50Finish Big, we've done a number of his Tomorrow People audios.
- 10:53He does quite a lot of those. And he's a big ideas man, but
- 10:57he's terrible at structuring scripts a lot of the time.
- 11:02And yeah, so, so he sort of loses his ideas and he puts in a
- 11:06lot of characters in his stories and I, I always feel like he
- 11:11just needs a bloody good script editor.
- 11:13Yeah, the problem is he's usually the script editor.
- 11:16He is. Yes, he is.
- 11:19Oh, Oh no. Now look, I don't mind the green
- 11:21sky. When it's a shot of the cliffs,
- 11:23that looks quite effective. When it's a person silhouetted
- 11:27against it, well, I can see the line.
- 11:30Yeah, you feel like you're in a bad Cape Push video, don't you?
- 11:34She's running up that. Running up that beach.
- 11:37That's right. It's great.
- 11:39I've just nearly drowned acting by Nigel Fairs there.
- 11:43I think it was a good performance to be honest.
- 11:44He does. He does.
- 11:46He did during lockdown. He wrote, I can't, I don't want
- 11:51to say the Wendy Moore's mysteries, but it was something
- 11:53like that. It was a series of online murder
- 11:55mysteries and he he was giving actors who didn't have the
- 11:59opportunity to work to do these sort of Zoom call murder
- 12:02mysteries. Well, he does.
- 12:04That's what he does in or it did.
- 12:06I don't know whether he still does, but he he ran murder
- 12:09mystery weekends. I think he's a talent.
- 12:11I just like all talents, sometimes you need people to go
- 12:15chill out a bit, right? Or just edit them a little bit.
- 12:20Yeah. Peter Miles, though, he's got a
- 12:22pretend gun now. He's shooting nothing.
- 12:26But again, it is well shot. Like it's probably not as
- 12:29impressive as the other two in terms of the lighting and stuff,
- 12:32but that's because they're on location in daylight for most of
- 12:34it. So like, what can you actually
- 12:36do? Funny enough, whilst I wasn't
- 12:39entirely sure Miles knew what was occurring, I did think
- 12:42Barbara Shelley knew what was happening.
- 12:44Yeah, but at the end, when she has to get very emotional, she's
- 12:47proper in there, you know? Apparently she was a real
- 12:50calming influence on set because Bill Bags felt like he bit off
- 12:54more they could chew with this one.
- 12:56He said he tried to shoot too much and there was a lot of
- 12:59compromises he made and she apparently when stress was high
- 13:02she just went round and spoke to everybody and made him laugh and
- 13:05calmed him down. Well, good on her.
- 13:07Interestingly, the approach in the third one is the opposite of
- 13:11this, isn't it? Now, I don't think it's not
- 13:13ambitious, but they they choose a single location and just shoot
- 13:18the hell out of it, don't they? You know, Yeah, because, yeah,
- 13:21here he is. Wow.
- 13:23He opened with an action set piece, for God's sake.
- 13:25But how? Much were.
- 13:27These made on you reckon? Excuse me?
- 13:31Well, I think the first, I said the first one was 5 grand, but
- 13:35this can't be more than like 10 grand.
- 13:37Something like that. Grand.
- 13:39Yeah, that's nothing. You couldn't make a short film
- 13:42for five. Grand.
- 13:42Oh dear. Well, now look when we had to
- 13:47set a location for what we do. Please, these woods.
- 13:49I know. Sophie's in the Bush.
- 13:52Somewhat sinister in the Bush. Keeping an eye now I'm I'm going
- 13:59to be serious later when I talk about the acting styles of
- 14:02Sophie Aldred and Nicola Bryan. Yeah, I don't want you to beat
- 14:05me up because you're in my presence.
- 14:07I won't you're. Starting with this, there is a
- 14:10contrast, isn't it? It's a shame.
- 14:13I mean, I love Sophie Aldridge, but I don't know whether this is
- 14:15a role she's best suited to, you know?
- 14:17I'm having unnatural thoughts about Nigel Fairs of.
- 14:20Course you are. Do you want you want to see
- 14:21what's up his dressing? Isn't that a robe?
- 14:23But he's got his chest exposed. His penis is just there.
- 14:27He's not wearing any pants. He was definitely a gay man,
- 14:31weren't he? I mean, still is.
- 14:33I don't want to count. But he didn't give it up for
- 14:36lunch. Was he?
- 14:37No, he wasn't in a relationship with John Hayes.
- 14:39Yeah, that was Gary Russell. Yeah.
- 14:43He's a pretty man. Look at him.
- 14:44He's a very pretty. Man I was thinking about his
- 14:46boyfriend that he was so great on the back of a jet ski.
- 14:50RIP Mark. That's not the only thing he was
- 14:52good on the back of. Wow.
- 14:55I mean, you would look at him. No, no, look, you've got the
- 14:59fire blanket from the. Show I mean, I've got you've got
- 15:02to be honest though, you still need health and safety and fire
- 15:05blankets in the. Future on alien planets?
- 15:08Yeah, in English, fire has. Happened that, Yeah, but this is
- 15:10a colony, isn't it? So it's the humans had come here
- 15:14to turn it into a recreational planet.
- 15:17Oh look, he's doing some serious emotional.
- 15:21Actors, is your boyfriend dead? He's he's doing a good job.
- 15:24If that was my mark, all right, you'd have me in floods.
- 15:27Oh my. God, it's light from ghost
- 15:32light. No, she's wearing an outfit.
- 15:33It's just the the the. It's a bit netty, isn't it?
- 15:38I mean, the silhouette was very felt, sure to say.
- 15:42So she's just stepped in the way of a of a deer that he was going
- 15:46to shoot. Yeah.
- 15:49It's it's all of the life on the planet, all part of the planet.
- 15:52Is it all one massive Organism? It's not so much that it's, it's
- 15:56a massive Organism, it's just it's a symbiotic sort of
- 15:58relationship and. I mean, OK, Dylan, I'm going to
- 16:02pitch something to you now. OK?
- 16:04We're in the office. I'm going to pitch to you.
- 16:05Right. OK.
- 16:06I want to do this. Yeah.
- 16:08Amateur film. I'm going to bring together some
- 16:11skilled actors. Yeah.
- 16:12And I want to do a story about a sentient planet that creates
- 16:16antibodies, that falls in love with the central character.
- 16:21OK, I'm going to have speed boats.
- 16:23I'm going to have caves. I'm in.
- 16:27And I'm not going to do it all on 10 grand.
- 16:29Yeah. I mean, I wouldn't, I wouldn't
- 16:31be able to Commission that. How much would you sort of
- 16:35guesstimate that would cost? Just very quickly we've, we've
- 16:39cut back to this is supposed to be the teleport that we have,
- 16:43the space station, the docking station, but all we've got is a
- 16:48computer in a room with people running around.
- 16:51It's funny. I mean, if you pitch this as a,
- 16:55as an actual film now, like this would probably cost you
- 16:58£2,000,000. But if you were going to make a
- 17:00low budget version like this, I think you'd still be looking at
- 17:04like 100 grand. Wow.
- 17:07So I think it's worth saying this is quite an achievement.
- 17:12It is on the screen. I just think it's, I think it's
- 17:16too big of a leap for, you know, what they're trying to achieve.
- 17:20They just don't get there. I I, I really like to see it
- 17:23because I just thought the ideas were so quirky.
- 17:26The ideas are great, you know, so now are.
- 17:30You thinking she's? Naked, yeah, but this is the
- 17:31thing. Everybody thinks she's naked,
- 17:32but she's she's wearing. Clothes.
- 17:34She's wearing a body stocking that's sort of fleshy coloured.
- 17:38Yeah, if she was a bit dirty. Well, she is a bit dirty.
- 17:42She's very dirty in The Cave. Yeah, I don't.
- 17:44I don't think Sophie Eldra's very dirty though.
- 17:46It's real life, Yeah. No, no, no, as.
- 17:50I can't see her turning up in Doctor Screw.
- 17:52You know, that's the one thing she would say no to.
- 17:54Yeah. Oh, look at that skeleton look.
- 17:56Yeah, they found a corpse of one of the natives.
- 17:58So essentially what's occurring is Sophie Aldrin's going around
- 18:02this planet murdering everyone on it.
- 18:05Oh oh God, we've got the native now that.
- 18:08That truly is Poundland, Planet of the Apes.
- 18:10Yeah, like. Somebody, somebody should have
- 18:14said, is this a good idea? And the answer was no.
- 18:18You. Could have done it with just a
- 18:20very primitive human sort of caver.
- 18:22Skulls style. Oh yeah, some subtle makeup
- 18:26would have done. That's an actual mask they've
- 18:28got from Poundland, isn't it? Or somewhere like that.
- 18:31Oh no, Nigel Fairs is dead now. No, I think face down in the
- 18:35leash. Great.
- 18:39We've got Peter Miles and Sophie Aldrin murdering people left,
- 18:41right, centre. Yeah, Peter Miles.
- 18:43It's like a Doctor Who convention, isn't it?
- 18:47Peter Miles has shot Nigel. Fairs.
- 18:49Now where are these caves? I think it's walkie hole but I
- 18:53could be wrong. I'll tell you what, he gets some
- 18:55value out of this location. Look at this.
- 18:58That's a lovely shot, isn't it? They're sort of shooting through
- 19:01a little cave thing, this water. It looks really good.
- 19:04And she she's making a lovely medicinal brew.
- 19:08I'm going to, So hang on. If she's killing everybody else,
- 19:11yeah, that's infecting the planet.
- 19:13Why is she so nice to the stranger?
- 19:14Because she she thinks he's a right sort.
- 19:17Woolly here for me. You know, they get into the
- 19:20healing waters like and they wow.
- 19:21Exactly you. See Colin Baker's impressive
- 19:24moves. Yeah, she, she fancies him.
- 19:26She's like, I love me a bit of Colin Baker.
- 19:29He's not like all the others. Do you know what I I actually
- 19:32think had he been any other actress, and I don't mean
- 19:34because of her talent, just because she played ace, this
- 19:38wouldn't be as jarring as it is. Yeah, if Barbara Shelley had
- 19:42played the I mean, I'm not sure I'd want to see her naked
- 19:44either, but it just wouldn't be as weird as the Sick Doctor and
- 19:48Ace naked in Healing Waters. I don't think she's the right
- 19:52person to cast for this role. I don't think it's in her
- 19:54wheelhouse, but she gives it her all.
- 19:56Do you know when we did Shakedown and she played Maori?
- 19:59That was a yeah. She was great.
- 20:01Brilliant casting choice. I don't think he's a great
- 20:03performance, but it's so against time.
- 20:06It's so entertaining. But here, yeah.
- 20:10Maybe be me being disingenuous to say that she gives her best
- 20:14acting in this particular piece when she isn't saying any
- 20:18dialogue. Yeah, no, I think, I think
- 20:20you're right. I don't know where he's been
- 20:23shown. Notice that on this alien planet
- 20:25in the future now they're all sort of wearing jeans.
- 20:28Well, yeah, black jeans. They wear they wear jeans in
- 20:30Star Wars, mate. So I'm not.
- 20:32I don't. Know anyone would think it was
- 20:36filmed on Earth? Well, maybe it was.
- 20:39They didn't. They didn't go to another planet
- 20:40to shoot this lazy. This bill bag's already losing.
- 20:43He had 10 grand to work with here.
- 20:45I don't. Know whether it was 10 grand,
- 20:46but I imagine it was about. I think if you get in touch with
- 20:48Elon now and offer him 10 grand, you can get us a seat on the
- 20:52shuttle to miles. Excellent.
- 20:56So what's do we know what Peter Miles back story is?
- 21:00Well, yeah, he was. He was given that involuntary
- 21:02leave. But like, his mental health is
- 21:04making and go, oh, they've put me here because they want me to,
- 21:07you know, look after things. Now these caves again are
- 21:09looking great. Beautiful.
- 21:10And now imagine. This there they are.
- 21:14OHS beautiful now. No, but they're in the healing
- 21:18waters. Everybody makes out like they
- 21:20were fucking in this city or. Something the trouble with it
- 21:22is, is the the camera stays on them far too long and Colin
- 21:26Baker looks like he's having an orgasm.
- 21:29That's the problem. I mean, wouldn't you be?
- 21:31I suppose you wouldn't. I mean, it looks like he's
- 21:36bumming Sophie Aldridge for I. Would bum a planet if I got a
- 21:40chance. If someone was like, all right,
- 21:42I'm a planet, you'll want to bum me.
- 21:45I'll be like, yeah, I've never bombed a planet before.
- 21:47Would you bum a planet in the shape of Sophie?
- 21:49Aldridge, yeah, I do think she's an attractive woman.
- 21:52But Oh no, but you come on, you'd much rather bum a planet
- 21:56than like Nicola Bryan. Absolutely.
- 21:58So, I mean, she's beautiful. She is.
- 22:00I mean, would you bum? A planet than like Colin Baker.
- 22:02Absolutely not. I would just to say I've done.
- 22:08It just to say you've done it. Well, unfortunately, we can only
- 22:11get you Peter Miles. I go to a convention.
- 22:13I say you see him there. I've had him.
- 22:15I've had him when he was a planet.
- 22:18Oh, dear. Now, what I do like about Miss
- 22:21Brown in this one, though, is that she's sort of doing the
- 22:24Rose Tyler role. You know, when you just go and
- 22:26meet all of the periphery characters and you just sort of,
- 22:30you know, you listen to them and you have nice emotional scenes.
- 22:33Yeah. Yeah, no, she's having a great
- 22:35time. She said she's got to do
- 22:37something whilst he's off with Sophie Aldridge, yeah.
- 22:39Yeah, though she gets a good subplot in both of them, so.
- 22:42Trouble with these scenes in The Cave is that one shot, just that
- 22:47one shot of Colin and Sophie naked.
- 22:50That's the only thing people remember from this whole story.
- 22:53And everybody goes. They were shagging.
- 22:55And just like the very shots before that where the camera was
- 22:58panning across rookie hole or wherever it was looking.
- 23:01Film makers, Fuck yeah. There's so much more to this.
- 23:05Everybody just thinks that Colin sees Sophie's Wookie hell.
- 23:08Do you think they've got just one of those sort of hideous
- 23:11sort of Dead Sea mud packs and put it on her face?
- 23:14That's why she's. I don't understand why he's so
- 23:17knackered. Do you know what?
- 23:20A fool? No, but he was knackered
- 23:23beforehand. Think about the last time you
- 23:26had it off, right? Yeah.
- 23:28Was you knackered afterwards? Yeah, I wanted.
- 23:29To have a little sleep, so sometimes a bath and sleep, you
- 23:33know. I like her muddy face, I think
- 23:36it looks good. I like her sort of sea devil
- 23:38netting that she's got. On.
- 23:40You know. Oh no, look, she can't resist
- 23:43him. Such beauty.
- 23:46Is it? Is it Terrace Dicks right in
- 23:48this? Maybe he loves.
- 23:51He fucking does. Doesn't.
- 23:54He a bit of blood on the screen. Yeah, there we go.
- 23:57He's woken up. It was only grazed.
- 23:59No, now that shot there that looks like they are literally in
- 24:03some hotel. They.
- 24:05Could be in my nan's kitchen in 1992.
- 24:10Barbara Shelley, you are game. Look at those horrible curtains.
- 24:13Yeah, they are horrendous. There's a horrendous armchair in
- 24:19there as well. If I was to like, if I was to
- 24:23say to you, you know, independent company Dylan Reece
- 24:27creating the latest Doctor Who spin off media, that's not
- 24:30Doctor Who. So how ambitious would you be?
- 24:34Would you be ambitious? Or sort of in memory alone.
- 24:38It depends what the budget was. I'm going to give you 50 grand
- 24:41you'll. Give me 50 grand, I wouldn't do
- 24:43it. Yeah, you got to try and make
- 24:47something of it though, you know, be creative.
- 24:48Then I'd go down the memory alone thing.
- 24:51It's like 2 location well. A train platform.
- 24:53Yeah, and Belief Beneath BBC Nottingham is where the rest of
- 24:58it was filmed and I'd have 3 cast members and do it like
- 25:02that, yeah. 50 grand, is that all it would get you now?
- 25:05Well, yeah. Inflation.
- 25:06Inflation and also you don't want to overstretch.
- 25:09You can be ambitious without overstretching yourself.
- 25:12You know pills in the future, they look very like Anadin that
- 25:17you get from boots. But in the in the future, Anadin
- 25:20actually is the brand that takes over all pills.
- 25:23Oh, really? Yeah, I love you've got a.
- 25:26Lot of Have you not seen the Anadin wars?
- 25:29The spin off? Oh yeah, Big Finish Boxer, 13 of
- 25:33them. Doctor Who Time War Anadin so.
- 25:40But this is serious for a second.
- 25:43This is trying to show a more romantic side to the Doctor as a
- 25:48stranger. Sorry, isn't it?
- 25:51But I don't know whether it's saying that he's a ladies man.
- 25:54It's just. That we haven't seen him fucking
- 25:56everybody, no being essential. The pitch is a a planet falls in
- 26:01love with the Time Lord, essentially which.
- 26:03A good pitch. Yeah, exactly.
- 26:06In fact, I'll buy that more than forgive me, you know Amy Pond
- 26:10throwing him on the bed and. All that you leave Amy Pond
- 26:12alone. You know what?
- 26:12I. Mean that that's more Doctor
- 26:15Who, yeah, than some old slapper just trying to corner him in a
- 26:18bedroom. Where did she get that jumper?
- 26:21Well, changed of the subject. Yeah, no, no, no.
- 26:23It's just the thing of, I mean, it's knitted out a wall, a
- 26:27jumper. Yeah, well, didn't you know in
- 26:29the future? No, I can't do it.
- 26:30Not as good as you anyway, I think.
- 26:33She took one look at his bright red trousers and and was in
- 26:36love. It's understanding for the great
- 26:37trousers. Do you have red trousers like
- 26:39that? I've never really had red ones.
- 26:41I think I've got some red tracksuit bombs.
- 26:43I've got some orange tracksuit bombs.
- 26:45Do you know what? Well, I believe you.
- 26:49Oh, it looks like they might kiss Sophie.
- 26:55She wants. She get off Colin Sophie.
- 26:58She wants the Doctor to stay with her and, you know, protect
- 27:02the planet together. Luxurious.
- 27:04And then right when she when the antibody becomes Nick O'Brien,
- 27:08she turns into this evil victim. Doesn't she with great eye
- 27:11makeup? Absolutely vicious.
- 27:14And that was the point where I thought Nicola O'Brien was
- 27:17wasted in Doctor. If she can deliver stuff like
- 27:20that, what's he doing now? What is Peter Masters?
- 27:25He's going mad, he thinks there's an enemy out to attack
- 27:27him and he's got to defend the place.
- 27:30Oh dude, I sat on the remote. That's not the remote we got.
- 27:34No. Barbara Shelley does look a bit
- 27:38like Deborah Watling doesn't. She, but she can act, yes.
- 27:42So, you know, there's a huge difference there.
- 27:46I really just want to get back to Connor Baker though, you
- 27:48know, really, that's where all the action.
- 27:50Is. Yeah, well, it certainly was for
- 27:52him. So in So the Messiah is Sophie
- 27:56Aldridge? Yeah.
- 27:58Yeah, I think so. Or it could be the doctor, the
- 28:01stranger. Fuck, he's more than a Messiah.
- 28:06He's naked. You know how like actors when
- 28:10they know they're going to, You know when Chris Barry got
- 28:13stripped down naked in that episode of Red Dwarf series 5
- 28:17and he works out in the gym and great Charles sort of pissed out
- 28:19of him a lot. He goes.
- 28:20There's no way it was that ripped normally.
- 28:23Well, I think Connie Baker do it for this more than a Messiah.
- 28:25He doesn't get his kit off. Oh, he doesn't.
- 28:27Just saw his chest. Maybe he is not as body
- 28:32conscious. As Chris Barry, do you remember
- 28:35him in the first episode of Jonathan Creek?
- 28:38The very first scene he gets on the phone and says to the woman,
- 28:40I want you to get over here and bounce on me like a bouncy ball.
- 28:47Is it or is is that the thing where he says I want to make you
- 28:49squeal like a sea lion? The.
- 28:52One what a line? What a line.
- 28:54Wait, that opened the series? Colin Baker during that Playboy
- 28:58Colin and then murdered by in the second scene.
- 29:02All right, Play We are like the universe is a poorer place for
- 29:08not having Colin Baker be be a bigger television star than he
- 29:12was. When he was asked in his Big Big
- 29:14Finish interview with Nick Briggs what his because, you
- 29:17know, he's obviously done a ton of theatre and that I think
- 29:20that's his natural home, right? His star with theatrical is to
- 29:23deliver to the back of the room. He said his favorite, his
- 29:28favorite media was television. He said there was something
- 29:31really interesting about the relationship you have with the
- 29:34camera that he just loved exploring.
- 29:38And he just was sad that he hadn't done more TV.
- 29:41That's so sad. Oh, my word, the planet is
- 29:44angry. Sophie is.
- 29:47Oh, actually, look at the look at the shadow.
- 29:50I know. That's really well lit, isn't
- 29:52it? It's.
- 29:52Like she's been summoned by that shadow.
- 29:53It is. It is.
- 29:56And there was a shot just there where you saw a boulder coming
- 30:00across and trapping Colin in Wookie Hole.
- 30:03Yeah, he's trapped in Sophie's hole.
- 30:07There are the worst ways to go. But as we've already suggested,
- 30:13and not a lot of that goes on, she's a happy married woman, you
- 30:16know? I know.
- 30:18Vince Henderson. That's it before.
- 30:20That she was with Les Dennis, wasn't she?
- 30:23Was she? Yeah.
- 30:24What is up with the choices of Sophie Aldrin and Billy Piper?
- 30:28Well, the car that she's driving around in, in her myth makers,
- 30:32is Les Dennis's car. Oh boy, anyone listening to this
- 30:35go check that out. She takes you around all of her
- 30:38childhood. They should have all been a bit
- 30:41like that. Shouldn't.
- 30:41They yeah, we could go and relive that to we go to
- 30:45everywhere Sophie Aldridge used to live 0.
- 30:47Please. OK, We'll do the BBV tour first.
- 30:50Yeah, We can make a bit of money out of this.
- 30:51Yeah, BBV tour and then the Myth Makers tours.
- 30:54Sounds good. The Hamster Too Hot for TV
- 30:57Location tours will be coming to you in 2025.
- 31:01It's only £100 per location and you get a free badge saying I
- 31:06was robbed by Dylan Rees and Joe.
- 31:08Ford, do you know what's sad about that?
- 31:11People would probably come. They wouldn't pay £100.
- 31:13No, but they would probably do. I bet you I it would be like
- 31:17those bit BFI screens, right? They go on sale, right?
- 31:21We're done in 5 minutes. Right in guys, if we get enough
- 31:24people we we are going to do a BBV tour next year, location
- 31:29tour. You've only got to pay a tenner
- 31:32and your lunch. Exactly what's the tenner for?
- 31:37Our fee. Yeah, our fee.
- 31:39We're not doing this for the love of.
- 31:41BBV and myth makers you might be.
- 31:44I reckon if we all chipped in a tenor we could get bill bags to
- 31:48come and do it with us. Oh, my God, yes, please.
- 31:52Now I thought, well, this was quite nice.
- 31:54It's it's sort of shots of the sea, shots of the forest.
- 31:58It's trying to, you know, show that she is the planet.
- 32:02She is the planet, yeah. Have we done a a living planet
- 32:07in Doctor Who before? We did a living Sun in 42.
- 32:10Well, that's still to come. Well, yeah.
- 32:12Before this, I don't think we have.
- 32:16We've done a hollow planet. We've done a lot of hollow
- 32:19stories as well. Indeed, I'm trying to think of a
- 32:23living planet and. You know what?
- 32:25I'm going to say something controversial.
- 32:27Go on. I actually think you could
- 32:28probably excise Peter Miles and Barbra Shelley and have this as
- 32:31half an hour. Yeah.
- 32:32And just do the story of stranger Miss Brown.
- 32:35Absolutely, but then at the same time they add a bit of charisma
- 32:39to it, don't they? Because Colin's story is quite
- 32:42serious here and we said the first one was a little bit dour,
- 32:45so that looks so cold. Poor Sophie has just come out of
- 32:50the sea. Hang on.
- 32:53Colin took his coat off to give to her, and now they're both
- 32:57wearing the coat. It's because he was wearing 2
- 33:00coats. Is that what he does?
- 33:02It's very, very cold. There.
- 33:04Oh no, he's he's looked at it and gone.
- 33:06Is that? Bryant or somewhere must be.
- 33:08It looks miserable enough to be the South Coast and I live on
- 33:12the South. Coast, so I imagine if it was
- 33:14here we go in our imperial face. This is Nicola Bryant now
- 33:19playing the the planet that's pissed.
- 33:22Yeah, that's an angry planet, not a drunk planet.
- 33:25This was the bit where I was in love with the story.
- 33:30So the doctor, he's very confused.
- 33:32I don't love or hate, I just experience and she's like you
- 33:37bastard, you convinced me that you love me.
- 33:39But this, this is a bit more doctor, isn't it?
- 33:42It sounds like him that doesn't. It I mean he doesn't do the like
- 33:45love or hate hate. Hate.
- 33:48But I love her eye maker. She I'd have her there.
- 33:56She looks hot as hell. Joe Ford converted heterosexual.
- 34:01Nicola, leave, leave Fountain and come to me.
- 34:05I can offer you very little, but you know.
- 34:08Oh, look at this. So she throws her hands in the
- 34:10air. They.
- 34:11Lighten. We get lightning, and then the
- 34:13planet does a bit of an Evil Dead thing.
- 34:15Why? Was she never a villain in
- 34:17Doctor Who? So the planet does a bit of an
- 34:19evil dead thing. I mean where the branches of
- 34:22trees grab her. Obviously they don't sexually
- 34:24assault her like the branches doing the Evil dead, but.
- 34:26Season 22 was honest, you know, she's tied up on the fountain
- 34:30rocks and that enormous Venus comes after her.
- 34:32Oh my God, she's like Maleficent now.
- 34:36Isn't she? Oh, I love it.
- 34:40Do you reckon that bill bags may have a slight spike in sales
- 34:43when we put these out? I hope.
- 34:45So. Just two people, two people get
- 34:47in touch and say you bought these, we'll be happy.
- 34:49Yeah, let us know. Did we force you to part with
- 34:52£20 a yield money? Because if we do, it's I'm very
- 34:56happy that Bill Bass can pay his electricity bill this.
- 34:58Month and you guys get to come on the location tour for free.
- 35:01That's right. But he like, he's building
- 35:05tension here, like it does feel like we're coming to the climax.
- 35:10This is the sort of melodrama I want my life to be like.
- 35:13Sentient planets raining lightning down because they are
- 35:17spurned lovers. Well, quite.
- 35:20You mean ask Mark? This is sort of what I'll if he
- 35:22leaves the light on upstairs, I'll start throwing lightning
- 35:25about the house. Do you think of yourself as a
- 35:28sentient planet? I'm the size of a sentient.
- 35:31No, you are not. Oh, Peter Miles, man, will you
- 35:36put that gun down? What if that goes off?
- 35:38Wow, classic Peter Miles. I don't want to know what that
- 35:44means. I see you who was sitting and
- 35:48told me that someone invited them.
- 35:50Peter Miles invited them round and I played a load of jazz.
- 35:53So you he's been, I've been to his house, but he didn't play me
- 35:56any. No, he.
- 35:56Just said it. That was it, yeah.
- 35:59Yeah. That's not a euphemism, by the
- 36:01way. He genuinely just put something
- 36:02on the gramophone. Yeah, I mean, I'm sure.
- 36:04I think it was a gramophone as well.
- 36:06He's quite an old man. He used to have students live
- 36:09with him, so he had a little flat in I think it was Ealing
- 36:13and he'd rent out the spare room to students.
- 36:17He was, by all accounts, an extremely eccentric man.
- 36:20Who was? Wasn't he?
- 36:22It's hilarious. Have you heard him on the
- 36:24invasion of the dinosaurs commentary?
- 36:26Yeah, No, sorry. The Silurians 1 where he's
- 36:31turning off Caroline, John going these disgusting lizards coming
- 36:36into and she's going Peter. It's not real.
- 36:39He's just having fun with her. He's an odd character.
- 36:43I do hope the safety is on that come home.
- 36:45I'm hoping it's not really. Wanting it.
- 36:47Nicola Bryan. He's not going to kill her.
- 36:48We know this. We've she's still alive, unless
- 36:51you died last night or something.
- 36:55I think this was filmed a little further back than that.
- 36:58You know, this is definitely longer than the first one, isn't
- 37:01it? I do think there's enough plot
- 37:04though. There's enough bubbling a lot.
- 37:06Yeah, I guess so. I just, I've never been that
- 37:08fond of this one. There they are.
- 37:10They're going to barricading the door with some IKEA furniture.
- 37:15Bill bags is there going do not destroy the Centre Park's
- 37:18furniture. All right.
- 37:18The budget does not rest go to that well.
- 37:21Now they've just sort of over saturated everything to suggest
- 37:26the sky is very bright. Actually hurting my eyes a
- 37:28little bit, I'm not going to lie.
- 37:30You know, did you ever experiments with psychoactive
- 37:33drugs when you were younger? Yes.
- 37:34Was it a bit like this? No, it was a lot more dull to be
- 37:37honest. Oh, that's really Come on, let's
- 37:39get some shrooms and watch someone by shadows and more than
- 37:42the. Psycho No, in memory alone would
- 37:44be amazing drugs. You know, it's not what I used
- 37:47to watch when I used to have the cigarette.
- 37:50Archer. Maybe an Archer.
- 37:52I do. Yeah.
- 37:52Yeah. It was absolutely hilarious.
- 37:54When you're high, you know. Can I give you some advice?
- 37:58Go on. Next time you're in Amsterdam.
- 38:00Yeah. If they say to you, well, if you
- 38:02do go, you know, we'll do it as the tour arc of Infinity.
- 38:07They say to you that muffin is strong.
- 38:09Eat it slowly. Fucking eat it slowly.
- 38:12All right? Because there was me.
- 38:13I too, and thought I knew better.
- 38:16Well, I really, it's like Captain Jack.
- 38:18I lost the next two days of my life.
- 38:20I don't know what happened. Wow, that hurt a lot though.
- 38:26I when I was in my late teens, early 20s, and I used to go out
- 38:31clubbing and get home very late. I, I got into a habit of getting
- 38:35in and just in time for the UK goal Doctor Who repeat to start.
- 38:40So I'd be is. It 7.
- 38:43Yeah, something like that. And I was, I know I'd sit and
- 38:46watch that a little bit worse for.
- 38:48Wear interested in the October more what you were doing until
- 38:527:00 in the morning. Partying hard.
- 38:55Too hard. Could you do it now?
- 38:58No absolutely not. I went to bed at half 12 last
- 39:01night and I'm knackered today. I'm 41 years old, I don't have a
- 39:10567 AM finish in me anymore. I mean, I did night shifts
- 39:14recently and they were miserable.
- 39:15I got to 2:00 in the morning and I was so depressed every single
- 39:19night. What's going on now?
- 39:21What's interesting here is he's being a little bit more cosy
- 39:24with her when she looks like Nicola Bryant, which I mean,
- 39:27he's only human, but. Yes, do.
- 39:30You think Colin and Nicola are ever shagged?
- 39:32No, no I don't. I think they are the best of
- 39:35friends. In fact, there was a wonderful
- 39:38interview with Mick O'Brien and she said Colin Baker has been
- 39:42there for me in all the worst parts of my life.
- 39:45He's always at the end of a phone.
- 39:46I just think a beautiful friendship in that.
- 39:49Oh God, that marks. Yeah, it's no, it's no Davison
- 39:52and Sarah Sutton, is it? I don't want.
- 39:55To. Know Jesus Christ?
- 39:57Is that who Gary Downey was talking about in that interview?
- 39:59I don't know, but that's been a rumour in fandom for years,
- 40:01hasn't it? But.
- 40:03She was my favorite companion. I bet she was.
- 40:06But I do think in latter day big Finishes, you just can hear the
- 40:12Colin Nicola friendship in their performances.
- 40:15It's. And they're always great when
- 40:16they're on the stage together as well, aren't they?
- 40:18Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah. But then also Sylvester and
- 40:21Sophie. Yeah, You know, I think that's a
- 40:23beautiful friendship. To be honest, yeah.
- 40:25Yeah, no, you're right. There's a good rapport between
- 40:28Davidson and most of his team. I know they take the piss out of
- 40:32Matthew Waterhouse mainly but. What's so interesting is that
- 40:35Davidson is considered the the Nice Doctor.
- 40:39And yeah, I think Davidson is a snarky bitch, whereas Colin
- 40:42Baker's considered the acerbic Dr. and even though I know he
- 40:45has his moments, I still think he's quite a nice bloke.
- 40:48You know, yeah, agreed. And Mccoy's just gorgeous.
- 40:51He's just a nice guy. I mean, he's bonkers, isn't he?
- 40:56Fifi from Happiness Patrol. Who's the oldest one?
- 41:00Of three of them. Yeah, is it Colin or Sylves I?
- 41:02Think it's Colin, probably. He's got to be mid 80s now.
- 41:07I mean, look at this. Firstly, there's the Nichols
- 41:10playing this sentient planet. Yeah, Colin is playing the
- 41:12Doctor. They're in Wookie Howe.
- 41:14They could have had Doctor's stories like this.
- 41:16Yeah, no, Sophie's back. Suddenly the acton's taken a
- 41:23dive. Oh, fuck me.
- 41:26She's got an enormous knife. Yeah, she's threatening him.
- 41:30You know, you just sort of squint.
- 41:32It could be mind warp. Yeah, I mean, if yeah, it does
- 41:35feel a bit mind warp, feels a bit battlefield in places, but
- 41:38do. You know what the biggest
- 41:39difference is? I think this is just far more
- 41:41character focus. We're in the 90s now, aren't we?
- 41:44Where introspection was the order of the day.
- 41:49And you know, Colin and Nicola and Doctor Who, they just missed
- 41:52that boat. It wasn't it, you know, It
- 41:55wasn't happening. Then they were a little behind
- 41:56the times, as it was in Doctor Who.
- 41:58Well, it sort of came in with Cartmel, didn't it?
- 42:00That's when we became character focused again.
- 42:03I would have loved to have seen Perry go on that sort of ace
- 42:06journey. Not that journey.
- 42:08No, but like half an hour. Yeah, because her they try in
- 42:13the in the last two stories they do try with her wanting to go
- 42:16home, but they so much could have been done with.
- 42:18That yeah, it's insane how the only story you really properly
- 42:23get their relationship at like a good level is the mysterious
- 42:26planet. Yeah.
- 42:28And then such a good level. Though and then they fuck it for
- 42:32not her last story. But she is.
- 42:34I mean all those sitcom scenes with Brah.
- 42:36Bless it. Oh I love this story, my warp.
- 42:42OK, well look, my Affairs has bought the.
- 42:46They've sprayed a bit of water on the the monkey mask to make
- 42:51it look. They're doing their best sort.
- 42:52Of organic. It doesn't look like a monkey,
- 42:55Yeah. I'm going back to you now,
- 42:58putting on these productions. Yeah, you try to kind of say,
- 43:01you know what, we'll reshoot that.
- 43:03Yeah, again. Or we won't use the mask, we'll
- 43:06just have it as a person. The problem with the the mask is
- 43:09that they've also put a wig on it, so it's not like this messy
- 43:12haircut. Yeah, we've all made mistakes
- 43:16with wigs. Jesus, have we?
- 43:18Yeah. I wore an Afro to my mom's 60th.
- 43:21Oh, my good God. I never lived it down.
- 43:27But Peter Miles, will you stop getting it?
- 43:28Do you know who he is? He's the Gebec of this story.
- 43:31Do you know Gebec is? What from Monster and.
- 43:33Puzzle. That's right, he only exists to
- 43:36get in the way of the plot and keep things moving.
- 43:38Right? Right.
- 43:39And if he wasn't there, we'd be over 15 minutes ago.
- 43:43Oh shit, he shot the planet. I never thought I'd say these
- 43:47words, but Gebec has just shot Sophie Aldridge.
- 43:50Yeah. Tax, Yeah, no.
- 43:54Did you see that angle? I'm so filled with that.
- 43:56Yeah, it wasn't, Wasn't. I don't want to say what I saw,
- 43:58but I don't think she's trimmed she.
- 44:00Saw walking how? I saw her walking.
- 44:05How yes. Oh my, you know, has she done
- 44:10those Photoshop shit, you know? No, we're about six or seven
- 44:14years away from them. Yeah, man.
- 44:15I mean, to be fair, she's very sexy in those she does.
- 44:20She's got her hair down and it's just above the tip so it's not
- 44:23too bad. Yeah, the the 90s fan wank.
- 44:27Bang. Did you just wank the starter
- 44:29pack? When, Oh fuck me, the planets
- 44:35blowing up. That's quite an ambitious
- 44:37effect, Shawn, isn't it? It doesn't quite convince, but I
- 44:40see what they're doing. They're throwing rocks about
- 44:43Wookey Hole now. They're doing their best Star
- 44:47Trek what the reactors say. He's falling about all over the
- 44:51place. He's channelling his in a
- 44:53Shatner. Yeah, they all are, you know.
- 44:56Get these polo starring rocks. Fantastic heavy rock acting.
- 45:01There's these all sort of things we like in science witches and
- 45:03they're throwing yourself about color, starring rocks, planets
- 45:07blowing up. You know that there he he, he
- 45:13must have found that hole in the wall and gone.
- 45:15My God, it's. Like an ancient glory hole.
- 45:19Oh. Have you ever used the glory
- 45:22hole? No, honestly, I used to get
- 45:24scared I was going to buy it off, you know?
- 45:27There was a video that went viral wasn't there, about
- 45:29someone who flees in a toilet and a Dick comes through the
- 45:33glory hole and he gets his lighter out and puts it on the
- 45:35on the Dick. No, yeah, they set his pubes on
- 45:39fire. No, just just the shaft.
- 45:40Oh. Well, I'll never do it again
- 45:43now, thank you. I don't.
- 45:46I'm happily in a relationship. Oh no, now Barbara Shelley is
- 45:52going full method. There she was, stroking Peter
- 45:55Marles head covered in blood, the planets blowing up, rocks
- 46:00everywhere. But no, she chose to save them.
- 46:06Is it because she loved the stranger?
- 46:09You know, he's intoxicated. I can see why.
- 46:13He's a piece of ass. So did you.
- 46:17We did have a conversation about this, I'm afraid.
- 46:18Why did Luke Malloy like this one so much?
- 46:20Is it because it was a bit weird?
- 46:21I thought it was the third one he liked the most.
- 46:23No, no, he said. The second one, he goes.
- 46:25It was utterly unforgettable. Or maybe he wasn't being
- 46:29complimentary. It's interesting staging this
- 46:34this scene, shooting them from the side a lot of the time.
- 46:39It's not. It hasn't got the ending of the
- 46:41first one though, has it? The silhouette.
- 46:44No silhouettes. They do love these thoughtful
- 46:46endings where the stranger wanders off looking wistful.
- 46:49Yeah. You know, I'm pleased Nigel
- 46:53Fairs made it. It would have been a shame to
- 46:55lose someone that pretty. Shame Nigel Fairs didn't go off
- 46:58on his travels with them because he was the companion in the
- 47:01audio visuals version, wasn't he?
- 47:03What this character? No, but he plays the Nigel fairs
- 47:07plays one of the doctors companions in the audio visuals.
- 47:09I'll. Say it a million times.
- 47:11You know, if there'd have been, if Hugo Land had gone along, I
- 47:15know it would be problematic now, Kevin McNally.
- 47:17But if he'd had gone on in The Twin Dilemma, 22 would be way
- 47:20different. Yeah, because there would be no
- 47:21bullying of Perry in that. House, Andy Jump in every time
- 47:25someone tried to be a pervert. Now can you ask why is Colin
- 47:28Baker holding up that shell? Because that's what Sophie Alder
- 47:32put on him to heal them. I gotta pay attention mate.
- 47:35Well, I figured they were doing the end of the Aztecs.
- 47:37You know when he comes out the TARDIS and takes the brooch?
- 47:39Right you. Know, I think I was in love with
- 47:41that person, but I'm going to leave it ambiguous.
- 47:44Kameka. Come on, what?
- 47:47Kameka that's what I'm saying. Kameka No, I didn't.
- 47:51You've got to stop saying random words from the 60s like Joanna.
- 47:55Joanna, you have to fight me with the Pope.
- 48:00You defy the world with your politics.
- 48:03You always sound so Cam when you say that line.
- 48:05Well, I've got to say, I did really enjoy.
- 48:08That me too. It is my least favorite, but
- 48:11it's still an enjoyable watch hang.
- 48:13On copyright BBC Film Club. 1992 so they must have paid for this
- 48:18one as well. What about ah Do you think
- 48:21that's why the third one suddenly we're?
- 48:23Yeah. Maybe a lot more contained.
- 48:25Yeah. So you've had you've done 2
- 48:27strangers now are you invested in the world of the stranger?
- 48:30OK. I want to say at this point,
- 48:32when I was watching them, yeah. You said earlier that you
- 48:36thought there was massive promise in the Probe series.
- 48:40Yeah. And that had like, I really
- 48:42think in terms of telling stories and letting your
- 48:46imagination fly. At this point, I was like,
- 48:48right, So we've had one on an alien planet, which is very city
- 48:50of death, a split character, really interesting.
- 48:54Now we've got one with a sentient planet.
- 48:56Then I watched the third one, and I was like, yeah, the
- 48:59stranger can go anywhere. You could tell any kind of
- 49:02story. You are aware that that's the
- 49:03Doctor Who format bird I've just stolen it is.
- 49:08It's a Doctor Who RIP off mate. It's a Doctor Who RIP off.
- 49:12Shut up. I know I get that.
- 49:15But like, like probe. Yeah, the British XRS, fine, it
- 49:19does have legs. And you can tell monster of the
- 49:21week conspiracy stories and all of this.
- 49:23Yeah, they do kind of have all the time and space.
- 49:25The only thing that's going to limit them is their imagination.
- 49:28Yeah, very true and. I don't think they've got a
- 49:30limited imagination, no, just a limited budget.
- 49:33Yeah. Well, Dylan, what's the name of
- 49:37the third riveting stranger episode we're going to watch
- 49:40today? It's called in memory alone.
- 49:44I mean, that's the best title, yeah, I think.
- 49:45It is indeed. I mean, the terror game that you
- 49:48mentioned earlier does sound, yeah.
- 49:51And after that is breach of the peace.
- 49:53And then that's. Quite boring, that one.
- 49:55Yeah, well, that's that's that's the.
- 49:56Police procedure one. Sounds boring as well.
- 49:59Well, we'll get there. Shall shall we take a little
- 50:03sidestep now into the world of Nicholas Briggs?
- 50:07Always, but not before I've done away.
- 50:10Me too, turn the mics off. I don't want to hear that on the
- 50:13call. We will definitely cut it there.
